  1. You are listening to a message from Southwood Presbyterian Church in Huntsville, Alabama.

  2. Our passion is to experience and express grace.

  3. Join us.

  4. The year is 701 B.C.

  5. The armies of mighty Assyria under the direction of their king Sennacherib are laying waste

  6. to one city after another in the Middle East.

  7. And 20 years earlier, they've wiped out the northern kingdom of Israel, taken survivors

  8. into captivity.

  9. And more recently, they've marched through one town after another in Judah, all the way

  10. up now to the gates of Jerusalem.

  11. They've been ruthlessly pillaging, destroying, just like the prophets said would happen as

  12. God's judgment came on his prosperous and promiscuous people.

  13. Nothing has slowed them down.

  14. And here they are outside Jerusalem laying siege to the capital city of God's people.

  15. King Hezekiah in Jerusalem has sought alliance with Egypt.

  16. He's sought to buy off Assyria and pay them to go away.

  17. Now he and the prophet Micah ministering there in Jerusalem and all the soldiers standing on

  18. the wall afraid hear the taunts from Sennacherib as we read them in 2 Kings 18.

  19. Do not let Hezekiah deceive you for he will not be able to deliver you out of my hand.

  20. Do not let Hezekiah make you trust in Yahweh by saying, Yahweh will surely deliver us and

  21. this city will not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria.

  22. Do not listen to Hezekiah for thus says the king of Assyria, make your peace with me, come

  23. out to me.

  24. Each one of you will eat of his own vine and each one of his own fig tree and each one of

  25. you drink the water of his own cistern.

  26. And do not listen to Hezekiah when he misleads you by saying, Yahweh will deliver us.

  27. Who among all the gods of the lands have delivered their lands out of my hand that Yahweh should

  28. deliver Jerusalem out of my hand.

  29. Pretty hopeless situation it seems, right?

  30. We've been way outmatched.

  31. We've run out of allies.

  32. We've exhausted all our resources.

  33. Micah told us this would happen if we kept running after our idols and trusting in human

  34. strength.

  35. Boy, looking out there at that Assyrian army makes us feel small and helpless.

  36. It seems we've reached the end of the road.

  37. The end, in fact, of God's protection.

  38. Have you felt like that before?

  39. I felt that a little bit this week.

  40. Just to be honest with you, a heavy weight.

  41. Mostly from last week's passage.

  42. Feeling the conviction of my sin and my weakness.

  43. Failures in leading God's people as I should.

  44. How can you be a senior pastor?

  45. You don't have what it takes.

  46. You deserve God's just judgment for not even living passionately for him.

  47. You can hardly call yourself a Christian.

  48. Maybe you've been struggling to pray recently.

  49. And you've thought, what a pathetic Christian I am.

  50. I'm the weakest Christian in the world.

  51. I can't even find words to talk to God.

  52. Maybe you're feeling outnumbered on campus or at work.

  53. And you hear us say that God tells us to live for him all the time, everywhere.

  54. And you think, that's a losing battle where I am.

  55. What a joke.

  56. How could I even begin to do that?

  57. Maybe you hear me talk about revival.

  58. Praying for God to do great things in us and in our community.

  59. And what you really think is, seriously?

  60. I don't talk like that.

  61. That's way too big for little people like us.

  62. Pastor, I'm just open for one good conversation about God with my family.

  63. Like, just one night would be great.

  64. One encouraging interaction with an unbeliever, revival.

  65. Whether it's the reality of our sin, the strength of our enemies, the struggle in the battle of faith,

  66. there are many real reasons to feel hopeless, aren't there?

  67. If you need more help coming up with one, I can give you more later.

  68. Reasons we feel small and weak.

  69. And as a result, sometimes give up spiritually.

  70. And focus on somewhere else I can feel more successful.

  71. Feel better about myself, right?

  72. And Micah comes to us this morning and says,

  73. You know what?

  74. Those things are true.

  75. But they're not all that's true.

  76. I've got a message of hope.

  77. When you feel most hopeless,

  78. I've just finished saying that Mount Zion will be flattened,

  79. Jerusalem will be a heap of ruins.

  80. That's the last verse of chapter 3.

  81. But that's not all that's true.

  82. He says, lift up your head.

  83. Listen to a hope that will sound too good to be true.

  84. It's Micah chapter 4.

    Micah 4 chapter mention

  85. I'll read the first five verses for now,

  86. and then we'll pray and talk about the whole passage.

  87. It shall come to pass in the latter days

  88. that the mountain of the house of the Lord

  89. shall be established as the highest of the mountains,

  90. and it shall be lifted up above the hills,

  91. and people shall flow to it.

  92. And many nations shall come and say,

  93. Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord,

  94. to the house of the God of Jacob,

  95. that he may teach us his ways,

  96. and that we may walk in his paths.

  97. For out of Zion shall go forth the law,

  98. and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.

  99. He shall judge between many peoples,

  100. and shall decide for strong nations afar off.

  101. And they shall beat their swords into plowshares,

  102. their spears into pruning hooks.

  103. Nations shall not lift up sword against nation,

  104. neither shall they learn war anymore.

  105. But they shall sit, every man,

  106. under his vine and under his fig tree.

  107. And no one shall make them afraid,

  108. for the mouth of the Lord of hosts has spoken.

  109. For all the peoples walk,

  110. each in the name of its God,

  111. but we will walk in the name of the Lord our God,

  112. forever and ever.

  113. Let's pray.

  114. Father, thank you for a message of hope.

  115. We need it.

  116. Holy Spirit,

  117. help our hearts be not only desperate,

  118. but able to hear it this morning.

  119. In Jesus' name, amen.

  120. This morning, I just want to walk through Micah's promise of hope together,

  121. and then we'll talk about how God's people should respond to such a message.

  122. What's he saying,

  123. and what should we do in light of that?

  124. So first, as this chapter begins,

  125. this prophet who has been full of doom and gloom, right?

  126. That's about all we've gotten so far,

  127. as he addresses idolatrous people like us.

  128. He's laid us low, right?

  129. If we're honest, if we've been listening,

  130. and now he wants to lift us up,

  131. lift up our heads with an inspiring hope.

  132. It shall come to pass in the latter days.

  133. Before we go any further,

  134. that's now, you know, right?

  135. The latter days.

  136. As you turn into the New Testament,

  137. we see that the last days or the latter days

  138. actually begin with the death and resurrection of Jesus

  139. and continue on until he comes again.

  140. So what we're talking about is what we're living in right now.

  141. Peter pronounces that reality at Pentecost.

  142. Paul reiterates it many places,

  143. like 1 Corinthians 10,

  144. where he says all these Old Testament stories

  145. are written down as examples for us now.

  146. Those upon whom the end of the ages has come.

  147. That's now.

  148. The inspiring hope Micah's talking about

  149. is for future completion, for sure.

  150. But in many ways, it's already begun today.

  151. It shall come to pass in the latter days

  152. that the mountain of the house of the Lord

  153. shall be established as the highest of the mountains

  154. and shall be lifted up above the hills.

  155. Remarkable, right?

  156. Micah, you just said it was going to be devastated.

  157. And now it's growing taller?

  158. Mount Zion, Jerusalem,

  159. that's representative for God's people as a whole.

  160. They're not just alive and present,

  161. but prominent and impactful.

  162. And although it does sometimes seem to be happening,

  163. the gates of hell will not prevail against the church, right?

  164. In fact, it's not merely for ethnic Israel to be flourishing,

  165. but nations turning to God.

  166. The glorious vision here of a global worship service.

  167. Every tribe, tongue, people, and nation.

  168. Peoples shall flow to it.

  169. And many nations shall come and say,

  170. come let us go up to the mountain of the Lord,

  171. to the house of the God of Jacob,

  172. that he may teach us his ways

  173. and that we may walk in his paths.

  174. And we've seen that happen, haven't we,

  175. over the last 2,000 years.

  176. As Christianity begins with this small band of followers

  177. in one small town in the Middle East,

  178. and all of the sudden it begins to explode

  179. and spread all over the globe.

  180. And maybe you don't feel that as much

  181. because we've got this Western mindset, right?

  182. It can be very limited.

  183. But the Pew Research Center tells us

  184. not only has the number of those professing faith in Christ

  185. quadrupled in the last 100 years,

  186. you know where a quarter of those people live?

  187. One quarter of them in sub-Saharan Africa.

  188. You may not be seeing all of it.

  189. Millions of them living as a minority in China.

  190. Millions more in India.

  191. Nations are flowing to Mount Zion, right?

  192. And that's not merely a geographical statement.

  193. It's not getting on a plane to get there.

  194. It's primarily a spiritual statement.

  195. Right?

  196. How do they get there?

  197. End of verse 2.

  198. Out of Zion shall go forth the law

  199. and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.

  200. The good news about Yahweh and who he is

  201. is spread by his people.

  202. They, the nations, come in as we go out

  203. with the word of God.

  204. What an awesome global movement of God

  205. showing himself to be the one true king overall.

  206. What an exciting thing to be a part of a movement like that.

  207. And then what does Yahweh's kingdom look like?

  208. Verse 3.

  209. He shall judge between many peoples

  210. and shall decide for strong nations afar off.

  211. Perfect justice, right?

  212. This king who knows how it should be,

  213. he makes it right.

  214. And they shall beat their swords into plowshares

  215. and their spears into pruning hooks.

  216. Nations shall not lift up sword against nation.

  217. Neither shall they learn more anymore.

  218. Y'all, world peace!

  219. And we're not even at a beauty pageant.

  220. Like, it's coming!

  221. It's not all the way here yet, right?

  222. But world peace globally.

  223. How?

  224. Yahweh is the one ruling.

  225. That's how we know it's coming.

  226. Yahweh will bring it.

  227. Rest of verse 4.

  228. They shall sit every man under his vine

  229. and under his fig tree

  230. and no one shall make them afraid.

  231. You remember Sennacherib promised that to God's people,

  232. the words I read earlier?

  233. This abundant security,

  234. this great provision.

  235. And Micah says,

  236. you know where it's actually gonna come from?

  237. Yahweh.

  238. He is the one who will.

  239. The great king of hosts,

  240. the king of heaven promises,

  241. the mouth of the Lord of hosts has spoken.

  242. For all the peoples walk each in the name of its God.

  243. But we will walk in the name of Yahweh,

  244. our God,

  245. forever and ever.

  246. A colorful gathering of the people enjoying the fruits of this kind king

  247. with no one to make us afraid

  248. because our God is greater and stronger

  249. and brings peace and justice and eternal security.

  250. That's not at all what we feel at our lower points, is it?

  251. And yet Micah says it's coming.

  252. In fact, in many ways, it's already started.

  253. And don't you want to be a part of something like that?

  254. Fearful, small soldier on the wall

  255. thinking the end has come.

  256. And he says, no, there's hope.

  257. We want to be a part of that, right?

  258. Well, not me, right?

  259. I mean, the high priest, maybe, yeah.

  260. Billy Graham, sure.

  261. Mother Teresa, maybe.

  262. But little, weak, struggling, insignificant, me?

  263. No way.

  264. You've got to listen to what Micah says next.

  265. This is so great.

  266. It's not just hope out there somewhere

  267. for somebody who's really good.

  268. This hope is for an astounding people.

  269. Verse 6.

  270. In that day, declares the Lord,

  271. I will assemble the strong

  272. and reward those who have been successful.

  273. Nope, nope, sorry.

  274. That's not it.

  275. That's not what he says, is it?

  276. Let me try one more time.

  277. In that day, declares the Lord,

  278. I will assemble the lame

  279. and gather those who have been driven away

  280. and those whom I have afflicted

  281. and the lame I will make the remnant.

  282. And those who are cast off,

  283. a strong nation,

  284. and the Lord will reign over them.

  285. Really?

  286. The lame?

  287. Isn't this glorious?

  288. I mean, we hardly know what to do

  289. with a statement like that

  290. because in every area of our life,

  291. we get what we earn, don't we?

  292. We reward strength and competence.

  293. We honor achievement.

  294. And God's heart is for the outcast

  295. and the undeserving.

  296. Just because he's building a strong nation

  297. doesn't mean he's looking for all the strong people.

  298. That's how I do it.

  299. But no, incredibly,

  300. he's so strong

  301. that he will choose the weak

  302. and the foolish

  303. and the insignificant

  304. and make them a strong nation.

  305. Kids, that's not how you pick a team

  306. on the playground, is it?

  307. You're gonna lose.

  308. Nobody wants to lose.

  309. You pick the strong people,

  310. the big guys.

  311. But it is how God builds his church.

  312. To the astonishment of all the nations

  313. who value and depend on human strength,

  314. he gathers the lame and the castoffs.

  315. And then, y'all,

  316. those are actually the ones

  317. who go out with the message

  318. of Yahweh's greatness and goodness

  319. that brings world peace.

  320. That's how it comes.

  321. It brings the nations flowing

  322. to this gracious, condescending God

  323. of the Bible

  324. who has welcomed them in.

  325. It actually gets even crazier

  326. and even better than this.

  327. Not just the lame being the remnant,

  328. but those that God himself cast off,

  329. brought back.

  330. The exiles away from his land.

  331. They were hopeless, right?

  332. They're actually made secure.

  333. Listen at verse 9.

  334. He's going to make

  335. a significant time shift.

  336. You may not notice it as well in English,

  337. but I'll point it out to you.

  338. He says,

  339. no longer in those future latter days,

  340. but now.

  341. 700 B.C.

  342. What are God's people facing now?

  343. Verse 9.

  344. Now, why do you cry aloud?

  345. Is there no king in you?

  346. Has your counselor perished

  347. that pain seized you

  348. like a woman in labor?

  349. Writhe and groan,

  350. O daughter of Zion,

  351. like a woman in labor.

  352. For now you shall go out

  353. from the city

  354. and dwell in the open country.

  355. You shall go to Babylon.

  356. There you shall be rescued.

  357. There the Lord will redeem you

  358. from the hand of your enemies.

  359. He's speaking to them

  360. of real suffering, isn't he?

  361. Because real suffering is coming.

  362. They really will be taken into exile.

  363. There's reason for great grief over that.

  364. But even there,

  365. he's at work to redeem them, isn't he?

  366. Right in the midst of Babylon,

  367. when they've lost all hope

  368. and they can't see anything good,

  369. there he works to redeem.

  370. Verse 11.

  371. Now, many nations are assembled against you

  372. saying,

  373. let her be defiled

  374. and let our eyes gaze upon Zion,

  375. Assyria,

  376. and others looking around,

  377. taunting and saying,

  378. aha,

  379. we have the upper hand.

  380. They're stronger.

  381. But,

  382. they do not know

  383. the thoughts of the Lord.

  384. They do not understand his plan

  385. that he has gathered them

  386. as sheaves to the threshing floor.

  387. Arise and thresh,

  388. O daughter of Zion,

  389. for I will make your horn iron,

  390. your hoofs bronze.

  391. You shall beat in pieces

  392. many peoples

  393. and shall devote their gain

  394. to the Lord,

  395. their wealth,

  396. to the Lord

  397. of the whole earth.

  398. The promise of God's discipline

  399. right alongside the promise

  400. of his restoration.

  401. Nothing can happen to you

  402. so bad

  403. that he can't redeem it.

  404. There is no pit so deep

  405. that he is not deeper still,

  406. Corrie ten Boom.

  407. If you will trust this great king,

  408. even those of you who feel so far,

  409. so distant from him

  410. that he sent you away,

  411. if you will yet return

  412. and trust him,

  413. you will find an eternal security

  414. against all the evidence

  415. of your circumstances.

  416. Despite everything you look around

  417. and see,

  418. despite what your heart

  419. tells you to feel,

  420. you'll find an eternal security

  421. that will never,

  422. ever let you down.

  423. See, that's really the reason

  424. that this astounding people

  425. people who really don't have

  426. much reason for hope

  427. can have this inspiring hope,

  428. isn't it?

  429. It's all through this amazing king.

  430. Already, as we've been reading,

  431. we've seen,

  432. I hope you've noticed,

  433. every time,

  434. this is what Yahweh will do.

  435. He keeps saying,

  436. I'll do this,

  437. I'll do this,

  438. he will assemble,

  439. he will gather,

  440. he'll make the remnant,

  441. he'll reign over them forever.

  442. And chapter 5 opens

  443. with one more,

  444. now,

  445. but.

  446. Verse 1,

  447. now muster your troops,

  448. O daughter of troops,

  449. siege is laid against us.

  450. With a rod they strike

  451. the judge of Israel

  452. on the cheek.

  453. It's not looking good,

  454. is it?

  455. I know what you're facing,

  456. I know how you're feeling,

  457. but,

  458. you, O Bethlehem,

  459. Ephrathah,

  460. who are too little

  461. to be among the clans of Judah.

  462. From you shall come forth for me

  463. one who is to be ruler in Israel,

  464. whose origin is from of old,

  465. from ancient days.

  466. There's a verse you recognize,

  467. isn't it, kids?

  468. You hear that one at Christmas time,

  469. don't you?

  470. You know what that's about, right?

  471. The Messiah,

  472. the promised one,

  473. the king,

  474. he's gonna be born

  475. in the little town of Bethlehem.

  476. See, it's not just the people

  477. who find power in weakness,

  478. but that's actually the model

  479. of power for the true king.

  480. His great strength

  481. will come from apparent weakness.

  482. How do you know

  483. that weak, failing, insignificant you

  484. can really be a part of this kingdom?

  485. The king comes from

  486. too small Bethlehem.

  487. But his rule will be magnificent.

  488. Verse 3.

  489. Therefore he shall give them up

  490. until the time she who is in labor

  491. has given birth.

  492. Then the rest of his brothers

  493. shall return to the people of Israel,

  494. and he shall stand

  495. and shepherd his flock

  496. in the strength of the Lord,

  497. in the majesty of the name

  498. of the Lord his God,

  499. and they shall dwell secure.

  500. For now he shall be great

  501. to the ends of the earth,

  502. and he shall be their peace.

  503. In the power of the one true God,

  504. Yahweh, the one true king,

  505. the promised one,

  506. will shepherd his flock

  507. of lame outcasts

  508. who have become beloved children.

  509. And the fact that he is great

  510. is what brings world peace.

  511. The fact that he is great

  512. to the ends of the earth

  513. is what makes them secure.

  514. The fact that this unparalleled king

  515. reigns with justice and grace

  516. makes this inspiring hope

  517. that Micah promises even possible.

  518. It's his reign.

  519. Their hope is not in their own strength,

  520. their own greatness.

  521. They are weak,

  522. but he is strong.

  523. To be clear,

  524. no matter what current powerful leaders may say,

  525. there is one great king for Israel

  526. and for all nations.

  527. There is one chosen one

  528. in whom they and we all find hope.

  529. He doesn't live in the White House

  530. and he doesn't find strength

  531. in human power.

  532. To suggest otherwise

  533. is dangerously distracting

  534. from the true king.

  535. See, we are to look for our hope

  536. to no one else

  537. and nowhere else

  538. but the king

  539. born in Bethlehem

  540. whose greatness

  541. no one can fathom,

  542. no one can equal.

  543. He is our hope.

  544. Amen?

  545. It's what God's people learned then.

  546. It was

  547. looking pretty bleak

  548. for God's people

  549. in Micah's day.

  550. Stuck

  551. before Sennacherib's

  552. powerful army.

  553. Human weakness

  554. has led them to face

  555. judgment.

  556. Human power

  557. has failed to deliver them.

  558. Most of them

  559. are utterly hopeless.

  560. And finally,

  561. King Hezekiah surrenders.

  562. But not to the

  563. might of Assyria.

  564. Instead,

  565. he surrenders

  566. to the unparalleled

  567. power of Yahweh.

  568. He looks to God,

  569. repents,

  570. and cries

  571. for God's help.

  572. He prays this way,

  573. O Lord,

  574. the God of Israel

  575. who is enthroned

  576. above the cherubim,

  577. You are the God,

  578. You alone

  579. of all the kingdoms

  580. of the earth.

  581. You have made

  582. heaven and earth.

  583. Incline Your ear,

  584. O Lord,

  585. and hear.

  586. Open Your eyes,

  587. O Lord,

  588. and see.

  589. And hear the words

  590. of Sennacherib

  591. which he has sent

  592. to mock

  593. the living God.

  594. Now,

  595. O Lord,

  596. our God,

  597. save us,

  598. please,

  599. from His hand

  600. that all the kingdoms

  601. of the earth

  602. may know that You,

  603. Yahweh,

  604. are God alone.

  605. And the angel

  606. of the Lord

  607. that night

  608. with no help

  609. from the army

  610. of Judah

  611. strikes down

  612. 185,000

  613. mocking Assyrians.

  614. and mighty Sennacherib

  615. flees

  616. and soon

  617. dies himself.

  618. God protects

  619. His people.

  620. Repentance

  621. and revival

  622. spreads through

  623. Jerusalem

  624. and it will be

  625. over a hundred years,

  626. multiple generations

  627. before Babylon

  628. comes to take

  629. Judah into exile

  630. for their idolatry.

  631. History is altered.

  632. altered.

  633. Listen,

  634. Micah has been clear

  635. about the just judgment

  636. coming upon those

  637. who don't repent

  638. even among

  639. God's people.

  640. But now,

  641. he's reminding us,

  642. y'all,

  643. that there's not just

  644. merely a way

  645. to escape

  646. by the skin

  647. of your teeth

  648. and maybe you'll survive,

  649. but there is grace

  650. and hope

  651. beyond your wildest dreams

  652. for those who turn back

  653. to the true King.

  654. So what?

  655. What are we supposed

  656. to do?

  657. How should we now

  658. as God's people

  659. respond?

  660. Just repent again?

  661. That's what you say

  662. every week.

  663. But yes,

  664. that is the call again.

  665. Repent.

  666. Return to God.

  667. Repentance

  668. and revival

  669. come to God's people

  670. as they lift their heads

  671. and hope

  672. in Yahweh,

  673. their King,

  674. in nothing

  675. and in no one else

  676. do they find strength.

  677. Just as last week

  678. the awfulness of sin

  679. drives us

  680. to repent,

  681. so does the kindness

  682. of God

  683. lead us to repent.

  684. Both of those things

  685. take us to the same place.

  686. We realize

  687. we're face down

  688. in the pigsty,

  689. unworthy

  690. and desperate

  691. desperate

  692. and we remember

  693. the love of the Father

  694. eager to welcome us

  695. home and so

  696. because we remember

  697. both of those things

  698. we run back to Him,

  699. right?

  700. That's repentance.

  701. In these terms

  702. this morning,

  703. briefly,

  704. surrender.

  705. Quit trying

  706. to be the strong one.

  707. Micah's message

  708. clearly

  709. calls for us

  710. to give up hope

  711. in ourselves

  712. trying to manage

  713. our struggles.

  714. True repentance

  715. means that we quit

  716. doing penance.

  717. I'm so prone

  718. to this.

  719. I see my weakness

  720. and my sin,

  721. I call that bad will

  722. and I resolve

  723. to actually

  724. instead of being bad will,

  725. I'm going to be good will,

  726. right?

  727. It's actually

  728. just another idol.

  729. I'll try harder.

  730. I'll preach better

  731. next week.

  732. I'll lead stronger

  733. next time.

  734. Then maybe

  735. I'll be good enough.

  736. No.

  737. Repentance,

  738. that's penance.

  739. Repentance

  740. turns

  741. from my weakness

  742. to God's

  743. strength.

  744. From my sin

  745. and idolatry

  746. to His forgiveness

  747. and His righteousness.

  748. It means

  749. I pray more

  750. and more desperately.

  751. Not just

  752. add 10 hours

  753. of study

  754. next week

  755. to perfect the sermon.

  756. It means

  757. I read about

  758. God's grace

  759. being sufficient

  760. for my weakness.

  761. Not just try

  762. to convince myself

  763. I'm strong enough

  764. not to need Him.

  765. It means

  766. you plead with Him

  767. to forgive your failings

  768. and then in the

  769. joy of His grace

  770. you plead with Him

  771. to strengthen you,

  772. to live for His glory

  773. and quit chasing

  774. your own idols

  775. for your own pleasure.

  776. That's repentance.

  777. And our repentance

  778. looks like something

  779. doesn't it?

  780. It has fruit.

  781. We actually surrender

  782. and then strangely enough

  783. having surrendered

  784. we then fight.

  785. Strange.

  786. But the same passage here

  787. that tells us

  788. to embrace our weakness

  789. and find strength

  790. only in God

  791. also says

  792. now we walk

  793. in the name

  794. of the Lord our God.

  795. Living out

  796. day by day

  797. the life

  798. of a well cared for

  799. child

  800. who now has

  801. the freedom

  802. and the resources

  803. to be an instrument

  804. of hope

  805. and justice

  806. and peace

  807. in the lives

  808. of others.

  809. That's not just

  810. for pastors

  811. that's for all of us

  812. right?

  813. That's what we get

  814. to do.

  815. This passage

  816. tells us

  817. arise and muster

  818. the troops

  819. and fight together

  820. against the darkness

  821. and sin.

  822. All idols

  823. that would set

  824. themselves up

  825. against Yahweh.

  826. We're to be fighting.

  827. By the way

  828. that's why you need

  829. gospel community.

  830. What Mark and Anna

  831. were talking about

  832. in the video earlier.

  833. That's why we need

  834. each other

  835. to fight together

  836. in each other's lives

  837. for King Jesus

  838. right?

  839. You need that

  840. I need that.

  841. See repentance

  842. means I give up

  843. hope in myself.

  844. It means when I run

  845. back desperately

  846. to God

  847. I find a restored

  848. relationship with Him

  849. worth shaping

  850. my life around

  851. no matter what

  852. it costs.

  853. And then it means

  854. I hope

  855. this may be

  856. the most encouraging

  857. part.

  858. Give me 30 more

  859. seconds.

  860. I hope because

  861. I'm on His team

  862. I'm in His

  863. family now

  864. and the promises

  865. of my Father

  866. are incredible.

  867. Did you hear them?

  868. I look out

  869. from the wall

  870. and all of a sudden

  871. the Assyrians

  872. are routed.

  873. I go home

  874. and my neighborhood

  875. and my family

  876. they're turning to God

  877. they're praising Him.

  878. My kids

  879. and their friends

  880. and my grandkids

  881. worship Him

  882. faithfully

  883. because they see

  884. how great He is.

  885. Friends

  886. the future vision

  887. that God paints

  888. for us

  889. is glorious.

  890. That's what He's doing.

  891. I may be lame

  892. afflicted

  893. cast off

  894. undeserving

  895. outnumbered

  896. inconsistent

  897. too weak

  898. too young

  899. too old

  900. too sinful

  901. too ashamed

  902. too damaged

  903. and that may be true

  904. but it's not all

  905. that's true.

  906. Jesus has come

  907. and He is so strong

  908. and so glorious

  909. and so gracious

  910. that He will use

  911. me

  912. and us

  913. to bring revival

  914. to see nations

  915. come to worship Him

  916. to see people

  917. with no interest

  918. in Him today

  919. tomorrow

  920. run back

  921. to Him

  922. to see neighbors

  923. who are running away

  924. from God

  925. and don't want to talk

  926. to you

  927. seated at His table

  928. with you

  929. at peace

  930. forever.

  931. He says that's what

  932. He's going to do

  933. and we'll be there

  934. with them

  935. and have all we ever need

  936. why?

  937. Because He

  938. is there

  939. and what a day

  940. that will be.

  941. That day's coming.

  942. Hopeless

  943. brothers

  944. and sisters

  945. that day

  946. is coming

  947. see it

  948. it's coming

  949. because we are weak

  950. but He is strong.

  951. Let's pray.

  952. God our hope

  953. is in You.

  954. Turn our hearts

  955. back towards You

  956. even in this moment

  957. as we reflect

  958. on our weakness

  959. as we reflect

  960. on Your greatness

  961. and grace.

  962. as we look ahead

  963. to a day

  964. we can hardly

  965. imagine

  966. will be

  967. anywhere near

  968. as glorious

  969. as You promise

  970. us it will be.

  971. Give us hope

  972. in that

  973. in Jesus' name.

  974. Amen.
