  1. You are listening to a message from Southwood Presbyterian Church in Huntsville, Alabama.

  2. Our passion is to experience and express grace. Join us.

  3. The morning of January 3rd, 2023, Southwood's three pastors met in the lodge to pray for the

  4. new year. Rain fell steadily outside and all of the sudden rain fell steadily inside as well.

  5. Water poured through everywhere, pouring through ceiling tiles, down walls. There was standing

  6. water in restrooms. It was all through the hallway, running into the main room. Later, we would learn

  7. that a clogged drain on the roof of the lodge had caused the standing water to back up and get higher

  8. and higher to the point that it began pouring in through the AC vents. That's never, you don't want

  9. water in your AC vents like that. And it just kept coming and coming. I wish I had taken pictures

  10. sooner in the process. Here's a brief video of the aftermath.

  11. It's not supposed to rain in the bathroom.

  12. This continued for quite some time. It was much worse earlier.

  13. But what you would have seen had you been there that morning was three pastors totally overwhelmed,

  14. utterly powerless to do anything to stop this water. We were running around with towels

  15. and trash cans. That'll do it. That's going to fix it. Towels and trash cans, filling quickly. We were

  16. texting. That's why I was on my phone there. Texting every deacon we knew. Calling our facility's

  17. contractor, help! Somebody, somebody please come help. They gave us instructions. They told us where to look

  18. on the roof. We got to the roof. But when they showed up, we were no drier than when it started.

  19. We used all the towels, collected all the trash cans, found every mop we owned, but we could not

  20. fix the problem. Thankfully, some people are less overwhelmed and more helpful in a flood than pastors.

  21. Call someone else. The deacons helped us. Helped us fix the drain immediately and in time then repair

  22. the ceiling and the walls and dry out the whole building and be able to carry on.

  23. Maybe you can relate to feeling overwhelmed and powerless like us that day. Just think spiritually.

  24. For a minute. We've been called to be ambassadors for Jesus, his witnesses in this world. To reflect his

  25. perfect image. To see our city flourish. To teach our kids of him. To love our enemies like him. To experience

  26. and express his grace in relationships that impact eternity. That your life and my life should be so

  27. soaked in the glory of God that eternity is transformed. Anybody feeling overwhelmed yet? You got that?

  28. Just imagine Jesus' disciples here in the upper room. He's sending them out to love one another.

  29. To wash each other's feet just as he has done for them even though they're presently arguing.

  30. They are to testify about him so that the world will know that the Father sent him to earth.

  31. In fact, they are supposed to so abide in Christ, to abide in Christ so deeply that they will bear

  32. fruit that lasts forever even though the world will hate them and try to kill them.

  33. Oh, and by the way, I'm out, Jesus says.

  34. I'm leaving you. How do you think they're feeling?

  35. Powerless?

  36. Y'all, Jesus has been the power of this ragtag bunch, right?

  37. He is the leader. He is the teacher. He is the healer.

  38. They are fishermen and tax collectors.

  39. They don't do that kind of stuff. They're like pastors trying to stop a water leak.

  40. But while he understands their sorrow, their overwhelmedness, their feeling powerless,

  41. Jesus wants to fill them with confidence and hope.

  42. How in the world is that possible if he's leaving?

  43. He must have something astonishing to say.

  44. Perhaps, I think, the most startling statement he ever makes to them is here the night before the cross.

  45. John chapter 16, middle of verse 4.

    John 16 chapter mention

  46. Jesus says to them,

  47. Just stop there for a second.

  48. Put yourself in their shoes.

  49. It is to your advantage that I go away, Jesus says.

  50. Really?

  51. Is that possible?

  52. What are you saying, Jesus?

  53. He'll explain.

  54. For if I do not go away, the helper will not come to you.

  55. But if I go, I will send him to you.

  56. And when he comes, he will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment.

  57. Concerning sin because they do not believe in me.

  58. Concerning righteousness because I go to the Father and you will see me no longer.

  59. Concerning judgment because the ruler of this world is judged.

  60. I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now.

  61. When the spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth.

  62. For he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears, he will speak.

  63. And he will declare to you the things that are to come.

  64. He will glorify me.

  65. For he will take what is mine and declare it to you.

  66. All that the Father has is mine.

  67. Therefore, I said that he will take what is mine and declare it to you.

  68. Don't miss the power of a personal presence.

  69. We are going to unpack this morning a bit the person of the Holy Spirit Jesus is promising.

  70. But notice in this passage, Jesus doesn't give his powerless followers a long list of instructions,

  71. things to do, follow these and fix the leak.

  72. He doesn't give them a promise either that the circumstances will improve.

  73. You know, people will stop hating you.

  74. No.

  75. The water will stop eventually.

  76. No.

  77. He gives them the power of a personal presence.

  78. A helper who, like those Southwood deacons, would show up and do it with us and for us.

  79. Information wasn't enough.

  80. Change of circumstances was false hope.

  81. But the incredible, I mean, really unbelievable promise is a person with us.

  82. A helper, the word is.

  83. Not a drill sergeant to yell orders at you.

  84. Not on the other end, a complainer merely to bemoan with you how hard things are.

  85. A helper, paraclete, directing, exhorting, calling you from alongside.

  86. Tough and tender.

  87. Calling you forward and crawling through the mess with you.

  88. We need to take Jesus seriously even when he startles us.

  89. He is repeating this idea enough now that we ought to know it's not hyperbole, okay?

  90. He means something.

  91. He's told his disciples that they will do even greater things than they have seen him do.

  92. Really?

  93. Is that possible?

  94. He's telling them here it'll be better for them if he leaves and sends the helper.

  95. Are you sure, Jesus?

  96. Are we going to trust you on this one?

  97. He will tell them that they'll receive power.

  98. Where is their power going to come from?

  99. When Holy Spirit comes upon them to be his witnesses around the world.

  100. In fact, when Jesus identifies the good gift that his father will give to them, he tells them he doesn't even name himself.

  101. What does he say?

  102. The Spirit.

  103. Maybe like me, you've thought since you were a kid that if you just lived when Jesus lived and when he was walking around here on the earth, that would do it for you.

  104. You would have strong faith, right?

  105. I would live passionately.

  106. I would share the good news with everyone if I would just had Jesus here with me.

  107. Jesus disagrees.

  108. Look at the evidence of his disciples.

  109. When Jesus is around with them, a few people believe, but many reject him.

  110. His followers have little faith.

  111. Jesus has to do most all of the miracles.

  112. But then Jesus leaves.

  113. The Holy Spirit shows up and bam!

  114. 3,000 trust Jesus after the first sermon and the numbers keep growing every day.

  115. Peter, who just denied Jesus before a servant girl, now stands before the leaders of the community with the authority to take his life.

  116. And he says, do what you have to do to me, but I will not and cannot stop speaking about Jesus.

  117. The gospel goes to the Gentiles.

  118. Demons are cast out.

  119. And so many come to trust Jesus that churches are planted around the known world by the power of the Spirit.

  120. Y'all, if we are going to be and to do what God has for Southwood, I believe he's telling us he's going to have to put some Pentecostal into some Presbyterians.

  121. Okay?

  122. And some of you aren't going to be very comfortable with that.

  123. Not to mention your pastor.

  124. Actually, it is very Presbyterian.

  125. Or it used to be, and it should be, to say that our power is from Holy Spirit.

  126. A person, right?

  127. We set God in three persons.

  128. Did we forget that there are more than two?

  129. A real person, not a mere force.

  130. Him, not it.

  131. Fully God.

  132. The third person of the Trinity.

  133. We professed that earlier, right?

  134. I believe in God the Father.

  135. God the Son.

  136. God the Holy Spirit.

  137. We're going to see more of that here.

  138. And Holy Spirit is not just telling us what to do.

  139. He's not just sending us on mission.

  140. He is joining us, paraclete, helper for us.

  141. Let's see what Jesus tells us about this incredible power.

  142. How could we possibly be better off now, Jesus, than we would have been then?

  143. Well, if Jesus' physical presence was localized here, his whole life in an area smaller than Alabama,

  144. the Spirit's presence is universalized everywhere.

  145. I'll send him to y'all so you can bring my glory not merely to Jerusalem and Judea and Samaria,

  146. but to the uttermost parts of the earth, Alabama included, but so much bigger.

  147. The Spirit blows where he pleases like the wind.

  148. Secondly, this powerful person is really present inside you.

  149. Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you?

  150. He's going to be so powerfully connected within you

  151. that you'll know Jesus in ways the disciples didn't know him to this point.

  152. They saw him, heard him, walked around with him, but now he's going to live in them all the time.

  153. How was it, remember, that he told them they would experience full joy just in this last chapter,

  154. just a couple hours ago perhaps?

  155. It would be his joy in them.

  156. And they've heard that and now Jesus is leaving,

  157. so it would be understandable that they would be sorrowful.

  158. In fact, without an awareness of and reality of Holy Spirit,

  159. without finding true life in him,

  160. what hope is there of ever tasting this full joy?

  161. But Holy Spirit is bringing the joy and love and peace and more of Jesus

  162. into your heart to overflowing,

  163. so that you will bear fruit that will last,

  164. fruit of the Spirit.

  165. And you thought you'd never change.

  166. Not if that fruit-bearing Spirit lives within you.

  167. You are full of power, child of God.

  168. Full of power by his Spirit.

  169. That joy from Jesus is just one example

  170. of the other thing you have to notice about this incredible power.

  171. Holy Spirit is Christ-centered.

  172. Always focused on Jesus.

  173. Always shining the spotlight on Jesus.

  174. We as a church are committed to being Christ-centered.

  175. Good news.

  176. So is Holy Spirit.

  177. He's into that.

  178. Jesus has already been telling us this about the Spirit that he promises to send.

  179. He said it several times in this one conversation with his disciples.

  180. There are more in this passage.

  181. But look back to chapter 14.

  182. He's going to ask the Father who will give you another helper

  183. to be with you forever.

  184. This Spirit of truth.

  185. He dwells with you and will be in you.

  186. Notice verse 18.

  187. Jesus says,

  188. I will not leave you as orphans.

  189. I will come to you.

  190. He's also leaving,

  191. but I will.

  192. This is his Spirit in a real way.

  193. And then down a few more verses in verse 26.

  194. The helper, the Holy Spirit,

  195. will teach you and bring to your remembrance

  196. all that I have said to you.

  197. Chapter 15.

  198. When the helper comes,

  199. he will bear witness about me.

  200. Me.

  201. Jesus says.

  202. You see what he's doing?

  203. He's bearing witness about Jesus.

  204. Life with his Spirit will be life abiding in Jesus.

  205. It is beautiful how the Trinity works together.

  206. We're going to see that more.

  207. But he's starting to see how this personal power

  208. could incredibly position us even better

  209. than Jesus himself being in the room this morning.

  210. Have you thought about that before?

  211. That Jesus actually decided this was better for you,

  212. for us.

  213. Do you live with that kind of confidence?

  214. Like you would if Jesus was standing right here next to you?

  215. I might preach without notes if I believed that was true.

  216. Crazy.

  217. You might share about Jesus with your neighbor.

  218. You might serve the poor during fall break.

  219. You might confess your sin to your grace group

  220. or stay around for all of my long sermon

  221. that I preach without notes.

  222. We might all be in it together.

  223. If we really believed the power that Jesus says we have.

  224. Why do we need this incredible power?

  225. Hopefully some of that answer is apparent already

  226. as we feel powerless toward the glorious tasks

  227. that we've been given.

  228. But what I want us to think specifically here

  229. is how Jesus tells us exactly how Christ-centered the Spirit is.

  230. Verse 14, he says it very plainly.

  231. He will glorify me.

  232. Come back to the rest of the verse.

  233. But y'all, what we all need

  234. is for Jesus to be glorified in our hearts and lives.

  235. Okay, that's at the core level.

  236. That's what we need.

  237. That word for glory that we've talked about

  238. as having weight.

  239. Not that what we need so much is new information about Jesus

  240. or that what we really need is our circumstances to change.

  241. No.

  242. We need Jesus and his words and his realities

  243. to be as significant to us as they really are,

  244. to carry that kind of weight.

  245. And this is the work of the Spirit in the hearts of people,

  246. those who don't trust Jesus at all and those who do.

  247. So back to verse 8.

  248. People need Holy Spirit

  249. because we have missed Jesus at a fundamental level.

  250. Holy Spirit comes to help us see him the way we ought to.

  251. When he comes,

  252. he will convict the world

  253. concerning sin and righteousness and judgment.

  254. The way we often say this is that the Father

  255. in his eternal love plans salvation

  256. and he sends the Son

  257. who accomplishes salvation in his life and death and resurrection

  258. and then the Father and the Son send the Spirit

  259. who applies that salvation to our hearts,

  260. to you and to me.

  261. Because without him,

  262. we are blind to the reality of Jesus.

  263. And so Holy Spirit comes to convict us

  264. concerning sin

  265. because we don't believe in Jesus.

  266. That's actually our greatest sin.

  267. Trusting ourselves rather than him.

  268. So a huge role of Holy Spirit

  269. is showing us how desperately

  270. we all need Jesus.

  271. He's always doing that.

  272. Secondly, the helper convicts the world

  273. concerning righteousness

  274. because Jesus is going to the Father

  275. and not being seen any longer.

  276. This is Jesus' vindication

  277. in his triumphant resurrection and ascension

  278. so that true righteousness,

  279. our righteousness,

  280. if we believe in him,

  281. as John Bunyan reminds us,

  282. is where?

  283. In heaven.

  284. Before God.

  285. We stand right with God

  286. because of Jesus.

  287. Jesus has been the one

  288. as the righteous light of the world

  289. exposing its darkness

  290. because his glory is brilliant

  291. in its purity.

  292. It's one of the ways

  293. Jesus has been helper.

  294. But now he calls,

  295. as we saw a minute ago,

  296. the Spirit,

  297. another helper,

  298. meaning like him.

  299. Holy Spirit will show the world

  300. our insufficient righteousness

  301. and the glory of Jesus' perfection.

  302. Finally, we need the helper

  303. to convict us concerning judgment

  304. because the ruler of this world

  305. is truly judged.

  306. Look, actually,

  307. what he's doing

  308. is shining the spotlight

  309. on Jesus again.

  310. It's not Jesus

  311. who was judged

  312. and defeated on the cross

  313. as it may have seemed,

  314. but the ruler of this world

  315. who was defeated

  316. in the triumph of Jesus.

  317. And when we look around

  318. and we see the world hating us,

  319. when we feel

  320. that the forces of darkness

  321. are stronger

  322. than the forces of light

  323. in the world,

  324. Holy Spirit reminds us,

  325. no, the light

  326. is always stronger

  327. than the dark.

  328. You have power in you.

  329. Greater is he in you

  330. than he that is in the world.

  331. Don't you give up

  332. or give in.

  333. Holy Spirit is with you.

  334. That's been happening

  335. since he came in Pentecost

  336. in power.

  337. These untrained,

  338. ordinary followers of Jesus

  339. by the power of the Spirit

  340. preached sermons

  341. and shared meals

  342. and suffered martyrdom

  343. and saw people

  344. in generation after generation,

  345. nation after nation,

  346. bow the knee

  347. to King Jesus

  348. and find his joy

  349. and love

  350. and peace

  351. to be true life,

  352. to abide in him personally,

  353. so that recent estimates

  354. are that around 3 million people

  355. are converting

  356. to Christianity

  357. every year

  358. so that we're rushing

  359. towards worldwide numbers

  360. nearing 3 billion Christians.

  361. You may see

  362. your need of Jesus,

  363. the glory of Jesus

  364. right now

  365. for the first time

  366. and you can trust him

  367. to save you

  368. by the power

  369. of his Spirit

  370. and you're one

  371. among billions

  372. where he's doing

  373. that incredible,

  374. powerful work.

  375. All very exciting.

  376. I hope you're excited.

  377. But how do we plug in

  378. to that incredible power?

  379. Well, the beginning of that

  380. is that Jesus

  381. sends his Spirit

  382. to us,

  383. doesn't he?

  384. So we are on

  385. the receiving end,

  386. palms up,

  387. dependent posture.

  388. We're receiving

  389. the Spirit,

  390. but what actually happens?

  391. How?

  392. How does that happen,

  393. Pastor?

  394. Listen,

  395. as Jesus makes

  396. a massive statement,

  397. we can hardly

  398. comprehend this,

  399. but look back

  400. at verse 14.

  401. Holy Spirit

  402. will take

  403. what is mine

  404. and declare it

  405. to you.

  406. Jesus,

  407. to be clear,

  408. verse 15 says,

  409. listen,

  410. all the Father

  411. has is mine.

  412. That's what I mean,

  413. Jesus says,

  414. by mine,

  415. that the Holy Spirit

  416. will declare to you.

  417. Let me try to unpack that.

  418. That's a lot.

  419. John has told us

  420. repeatedly

  421. that Jesus

  422. came in the flesh

  423. to reveal God

  424. to us.

  425. The very glory

  426. of God,

  427. all that we need

  428. to know about God

  429. himself is shown

  430. to us in Jesus,

  431. right?

  432. That's good news.

  433. And this,

  434. this takes it further.

  435. Holy Spirit

  436. comes

  437. to help us

  438. get it

  439. and keep it,

  440. all of it.

  441. There is the power,

  442. all that the Father

  443. has

  444. in Jesus

  445. and when we remember

  446. then

  447. and shape our lives

  448. around the glorious

  449. reality,

  450. the true weight,

  451. the utter primacy

  452. of God

  453. so that nothing

  454. even comes close

  455. to competing with him,

  456. we have power

  457. that changes

  458. everything.

  459. The Father

  460. has,

  461. everything is his,

  462. all that is his

  463. is in Jesus

  464. and the Holy Spirit

  465. declares to us

  466. everything

  467. that Jesus needs

  468. for us to know.

  469. Maybe you've heard

  470. that to live this way

  471. we must preach

  472. the gospel

  473. to ourselves

  474. every day

  475. and that is so vital.

  476. How needy we are

  477. and how gloriously

  478. our needs are met

  479. in Jesus.

  480. This verse

  481. is the closest thing

  482. I know in the whole Bible

  483. to expressing

  484. that heart.

  485. Holy Spirit

  486. takes the full

  487. gospel goodness.

  488. All the grace

  489. of Jesus

  490. is what you need

  491. in every moment,

  492. every situation,

  493. every struggle,

  494. every opportunity,

  495. every heartache,

  496. every joy

  497. and what does he do

  498. with it?

  499. He declares it

  500. to you

  501. over and over.

  502. Not new information

  503. per se.

  504. Things from the Father

  505. that Jesus has said

  506. and that he will say

  507. through his apostles,

  508. notice all the truth

  509. from Jesus.

  510. That means a specific

  511. body of truth.

  512. I am strongly suspect

  513. referring to the New Testament

  514. that these followers

  515. of Jesus will write.

  516. Okay?

  517. That's what he's declaring

  518. to us.

  519. Jesus has been calling him

  520. the Spirit of Truth.

  521. So who's he going

  522. to tell you about?

  523. Jesus,

  524. who is the way,

  525. the truth,

  526. and the life.

  527. He speaks all that truth

  528. into your heart.

  529. See, he's not just

  530. a spotlight on Jesus,

  531. as wonderful as that is.

  532. He is a megaphone,

  533. clearly,

  534. for Jesus.

  535. A megaphone,

  536. child of God,

  537. from the inside

  538. of your heart,

  539. declaring above

  540. the shouts of the world

  541. and the cries

  542. of your pain

  543. the truth

  544. about Jesus.

  545. So you hear it.

  546. so that when you look around

  547. and conclude

  548. that your efforts

  549. with your child

  550. or your friend

  551. are hopeless,

  552. he declares to you

  553. that greater is he

  554. that is in you

  555. than he that is in the world.

  556. That faith is being certain

  557. of what we do not see.

  558. That he who calls you

  559. is faithful

  560. and he will keep

  561. his promises.

  562. And he's saying,

  563. that's real power.

  564. When you're tempted

  565. to behave inappropriately

  566. with your girlfriend,

  567. to look at images

  568. on the screen

  569. that seem to offer life

  570. and significance to you,

  571. he declares to you

  572. the truth of Jesus,

  573. that she is to be treated

  574. as though she is your sister

  575. until she is your wife.

  576. That if you look

  577. at someone lustfully,

  578. you're committing adultery.

  579. And at the end

  580. of the pathway

  581. that the adulterous woman

  582. calls you to walk down

  583. is death

  584. while wisdom offers

  585. true life

  586. and he declares that to you

  587. and that's real power.

  588. When you deal with sadness

  589. and darkness

  590. and depression

  591. and you begin to believe

  592. it's never going to end,

  593. he declares that the light

  594. of Jesus

  595. shines into the world

  596. and will not be overcome

  597. by darkness.

  598. That even in the moments

  599. when darkness seems

  600. to be your closest friend,

  601. God is working

  602. for your good

  603. and nothing separates you

  604. from his love.

  605. And as a result,

  606. that one day

  607. he will wipe away

  608. every tear

  609. from your eyes

  610. and you will know

  611. his full joy.

  612. And he says,

  613. that's real power.

  614. When you're afraid

  615. of sharing

  616. with your neighbor

  617. or your family member

  618. about Jesus,

  619. he declares to you

  620. that God has given you

  621. not a spirit of fear

  622. but a spirit

  623. of power

  624. and of love

  625. and of sound mind

  626. that the spirit

  627. that cries

  628. Abba, Father,

  629. that you're accepted already,

  630. that boldness

  631. is the right thing

  632. to pray for

  633. because Jesus

  634. is not ashamed

  635. to call you

  636. brother or sister

  637. so you need not

  638. be ashamed

  639. of him

  640. and of his gospel

  641. but to be full

  642. of the spirit

  643. and of power.

  644. That's real power,

  645. he says.

  646. By the way,

  647. those of you

  648. ruthlessly eliminating hurry,

  649. raise your hand,

  650. you know who you are.

  651. Yep, okay,

  652. some of you are about

  653. to go to a class about it.

  654. this is why

  655. you're doing that.

  656. It's not so you can

  657. feel better.

  658. It's so you can

  659. plug in

  660. to this

  661. power

  662. so you can

  663. open this word

  664. and hear this spirit

  665. declare this truth

  666. and see

  667. the glory

  668. of Jesus

  669. take its proper

  670. place in your life,

  671. carry the weight

  672. it deserves

  673. in your heart.

  674. He promises

  675. power, y'all

  676. and we rush

  677. through our scripture

  678. reading without

  679. stopping to listen

  680. so that we can

  681. go about our days

  682. improving our lives

  683. on our own

  684. as though we

  685. have that power

  686. in ourselves.

  687. So God gives us

  688. a day every week

  689. to reset our hearts,

  690. to recharge

  691. our batteries,

  692. to plug into

  693. true power

  694. and we give him

  695. half of it

  696. mornings,

  697. sometimes,

  698. a bit late,

  699. a lot preoccupied,

  700. but we gotta get

  701. there to hear

  702. a couple tips,

  703. you know,

  704. some practical

  705. how-tos that will

  706. be powerful enough

  707. to change my life

  708. this week

  709. and make me

  710. instantly a better

  711. parent and a more

  712. patient spouse

  713. and a more

  714. successful person

  715. and all the time

  716. we are missing

  717. the true power.

  718. We wonder

  719. why we're

  720. feeling so frantic

  721. and so self-focused

  722. and so powerless

  723. some days.

  724. Listen,

  725. I wanna tell you

  726. something

  727. that is really

  728. good news

  729. but it won't

  730. sound like that

  731. at first.

  732. This mission

  733. Jesus gives

  734. his followers

  735. to see his glory

  736. fill the earth,

  737. to testify to him,

  738. in case you didn't

  739. notice earlier,

  740. not only does the

  741. spirit testify

  742. about Jesus,

  743. we do.

  744. It's not getting

  745. any easier

  746. in our day,

  747. in our culture.

  748. The water won't

  749. stop flooding in

  750. but you're not

  751. going under.

  752. He promises

  753. the helper

  754. is not leaving us.

  755. We're not fighting

  756. on our own.

  757. Did you get that?

  758. You're not on your own.

  759. Southwood,

  760. we know a lot

  761. and we have a lot

  762. but what we most

  763. need is

  764. Holy Spirit

  765. power.

  766. Holy Spirit

  767. is showing us

  768. and our neighbors

  769. the truth

  770. about Jesus

  771. whether it looks

  772. like it or feels

  773. like it to you

  774. or not.

  775. He is powerfully

  776. drawing us to God

  777. so that his glory

  778. will fill the earth

  779. so you receive

  780. that power

  781. to abide in Jesus

  782. as you meet Jesus

  783. in his word

  784. and meditate on it.

  785. As you meet Jesus

  786. by his spirit

  787. in the Lord's

  788. supper

  789. to empower you

  790. for life with him.

  791. as you meet Jesus

  792. in his people

  793. as you go to your

  794. grace group

  795. where he's present

  796. by his spirit

  797. living in them

  798. right?

  799. And you think

  800. there's power

  801. there's hope

  802. there's joy for us

  803. because the spirit

  804. is here.

  805. But in all those places

  806. you get this

  807. incredible power

  808. by asking

  809. by asking

  810. by asking

  811. your good father

  812. you ask him

  813. for a good gift

  814. how much more

  815. will he give you

  816. the Holy Spirit

  817. the best gift

  818. because he has the power

  819. to point you

  820. to the son

  821. who shows you

  822. the father

  823. so that you live

  824. in relationship

  825. with God

  826. and the fullness

  827. of his power.

  828. You can ask

  829. anytime.

  830. You can ask

  831. this afternoon

  832. you can ask

  833. tomorrow morning

  834. maybe you want

  835. to start

  836. every day

  837. waking up

  838. Holy Spirit

  839. I need you

  840. thank you

  841. that you're with me

  842. I need you

  843. more and more

  844. come fresh

  845. we're gonna

  846. we're gonna ask

  847. right now

  848. if you'd like

  849. as our worship

  850. team helps you

  851. so that I don't

  852. lead you in singing.

  853. Whether the spirit

  854. lives in you

  855. already

  856. or not

  857. you can ask

  858. the father

  859. to send him

  860. to you

  861. right now

  862. to guide you

  863. into all truth

  864. to help you

  865. see the glory

  866. of the father

  867. in the grace

  868. of his son.
