  1. You are listening to a message from Southwood Presbyterian Church in Huntsville, Alabama.

  2. Our passion is to experience and express grace.

  3. Join us.

  4. Amen.

  5. Thank you, ladies.

  6. You know, we pick offertory songs each week not to entertain you, not to emotionally manipulate

  7. you, to give more while they're singing, but to prepare our hearts to hear God's Word.

  8. This is our last week in Jesus' prayer in John 17.

  9. It's often called His High Priestly Prayer.

  10. You know why?

  11. Because Jesus here is praying for us.

  12. He is a great high priest whose name is love, whoever lives and pleads for me.

  13. And we're seeing that here.

  14. You know what the high priest does, right?

  15. Every year he would go into God's presence on behalf of all God's people.

  16. See, because we were made to be with God, to be near Him and in His presence, but our sin

  17. messed up that relationship.

  18. It separated us from God.

  19. It kept us at a distance from Him.

  20. We need to be near God, don't we?

  21. But because of sin, someone has to go in for us, on our behalf, to talk to God for us so

  22. that we can be brought back into God's presence.

  23. Jesus does that, doesn't He?

  24. He's the great high priest going before God for us as He prays, as He pays our penalty on

  25. the cross.

  26. The curtain is torn and now we are welcomed back into the presence of God through our great

  27. high priest.

  28. So as long as our perfect, spotless righteousness is there in heaven, no tongue can bid us depart

  29. from God's presence.

  30. Amen?

  31. That's why you need a high priest.

  32. Even today, Jesus, the great high priest, is still praying for us, right?

  33. He ever lives and pleads for me.

  34. That is such good news.

  35. So as we read John 17, we are listening in to the one who restores our relationship with

  36. God and we're marveling.

  37. Every week we've been marveling that He prays for us, for us.

  38. He started by praying for shared glory in His relationship with His Father that He invites

  39. us into.

  40. He prayed for us to know eternal life by knowing Him.

  41. He's prayed God would keep us from the evil one even as He sends us into the world.

  42. He prayed, we saw last week, for our unity in Him.

  43. And now He closes by returning to our inclusion in that most glorious relationship.

  44. Listen in one more time to our great high priest whose name is love, who still prays these things

  45. for you now.

  46. John 17 at verse 24.

  47. Jesus prays,

  48. Father, I desire that they also whom You have given me may be with me where I am, to see

  49. my glory that You have given me because You loved me before the foundation of the world.

  50. O righteous Father, even though the world does not know You, I know You, and these know

  51. that You have sent me.

  52. I made known to them Your name, and I will continue to make it known that the love with

  53. which You have loved me may be in them and I in them.

  54. Let's pray together.

  55. Jesus, we hear Your words as You prayed them.

  56. Amen.

  57. We ask by Your Spirit that You would root them deep in our hearts, that we might know Your

  58. love, new and fresh, and be changed by it.

  59. We ask in Your name.

  60. Amen.

  61. How does God feel about you?

  62. You personally, right now, today?

  63. I've asked that question a lot over the years, one of those weird pastor questions.

  64. I've heard a variety of responses to that question.

  65. He's embarrassed, ashamed, probably disappointed.

  66. Or some say, pretty good, I think.

  67. Even, I've heard some say, well, I guess He loves me.

  68. And I want you to know, for everyone here who would trust in Jesus, that last answer is

  69. always the correct one.

  70. except more clearly and more passionately and more completely than you could ever imagine.

  71. God loves you.

  72. That's what our hearts need to hear loud and clear in this prayer.

  73. As we listen into Jesus, I want you to marvel that we are on His heart hours before going to the cross.

  74. Remember, Jesus starts this prayer.

  75. What's He longing for?

  76. He's longing to return to the glory that He had with the Father in that perfect relationship.

  77. Remember verse 5?

  78. Now, Father, glorify me in Your own presence with the glory that I had with You before the world existed.

  79. That fully known, fully loved relationship.

  80. And remember, we saw a few weeks ago that Jesus was going to die to include us in that glorious relationship.

  81. That shared glory that they have is shared love.

  82. This morning, as Jesus prays, He concludes by praying for us to get caught up into that glorious love of the Trinity.

  83. It's what makes us glorious and beautiful.

  84. Love is our word for the day, okay?

  85. Jesus has actually been thinking about His love for His people this whole night.

  86. Remember when we started earlier this fall, if you've been here that long, in the upper room,

  87. Jesus says He's showing us the full extent of His love.

  88. To the very end, He washes His disciples' feet.

  89. As He speaks to them, He promises not to leave them alone.

  90. He invites them to abide in Him, to trust in His Spirit.

  91. And now before they leave and head to His betrayal and arrest and crucifixion,

  92. what's His final request of His Father?

  93. Look at verse 24.

  94. Father, I desire that they also, whom You have given Me, may be with Me where I am.

  95. My disciples and all who will believe in Me through their word, I want them to be with Me.

  96. This is the Son's love expressed in no uncertain terms.

  97. What I desire is for them to be with Me.

  98. That's love.

  99. That's why with the holidays approaching, mothers everywhere are trying to figure out

  100. how to get everyone together in the same place, right?

  101. You know this.

  102. Whatever we do, whatever we eat, I just want to be with those I love.

  103. That's why we're so hurt as we miss loved ones.

  104. Because no matter what we do, what we eat, we aren't with them.

  105. That's why couples falling in love often drive their friends crazy.

  106. Because they just want to be together all the time.

  107. Love longs for presence, for being together.

  108. Now think with me about that for just a minute.

  109. It is not hard to understand why we would want to be with Jesus.

  110. I mean really.

  111. He is so tender.

  112. So loving.

  113. So patient.

  114. So wise.

  115. So forgiving.

  116. So powerful.

  117. His disciples have heard Him speak inspirationally.

  118. They have eaten food that He has made miraculously.

  119. They have watched Him heal powerfully.

  120. Of course they are grieved.

  121. They're crushed that He's leaving them.

  122. But on the other hand, why would He want to be with us?

  123. His disciples are about to abandon Him in His hour of need.

  124. They fall asleep at the switch like selfish friends.

  125. They're going to leave Him alone right when He is overwhelmed.

  126. Yet He has just washed their feet.

  127. Yet He is now praying,

  128. Father, I want them, these guys, to be with me forever.

  129. And it's not just them, right?

  130. We're a part of this prayer too.

  131. I mean, you and me who have done what?

  132. We've chased after other gods?

  133. Relentlessly we've done that.

  134. We've disobeyed Jesus' commands.

  135. We've even been ashamed to acknowledge that we know Him before others.

  136. Y'all, our wanting to be with Jesus is understandable.

  137. His wanting to be with us is unbelievable.

  138. Yeah, I mean, He probably actually doesn't want...

  139. He doesn't mean it, does He?

  140. Actually, unbelievably, He does.

  141. This verse tells us why.

  142. Who are we to Jesus?

  143. Look at verse 24.

  144. We're the ones His Father has given Him.

  145. In the original language, it's even stronger.

  146. It reads, Father, the ones You have given me,

  147. I want them, those ones, the ones You've given me,

  148. I want them to be with me too.

  149. The ones You've given me.

  150. Why does Jesus love you?

  151. Because the person that He loves most and longest

  152. gave you to Him.

  153. I have some artwork in my office

  154. that you would never find in a museum.

  155. I have some cards saved

  156. that anyone else would throw away.

  157. I've had drawings on my refrigerator

  158. that no one else can even make out what they're of.

  159. And yet they are precious to me.

  160. Why?

  161. Because they're gifts

  162. from someone I love deeply.

  163. I even have some of my girls' art

  164. and notes on old Father's Day cards

  165. in this old fireproof safe in my closet

  166. that my family makes fun of

  167. because nobody even has one of those

  168. and how would it help anyway?

  169. I so value them

  170. that that's what I put in the fireproof safe.

  171. Because they're gifts

  172. from someone I love.

  173. Friends, Jesus loves you.

  174. He doesn't want you to be far from Him ever.

  175. Not because your life is a picture

  176. that has been colored in the lines perfectly.

  177. No, that's not it.

  178. But because before the foundation of the world,

  179. His Father gave Him a special gift

  180. of these people to be His.

  181. He gave it to His Son.

  182. He sent His Son to redeem us.

  183. He came to bring us back home.

  184. That is the glory of His eternal love

  185. that we look forward to,

  186. that we look forward to sharing in with Him,

  187. being with Him.

  188. That is glory.

  189. Nothing could be better than that, right?

  190. It's what He promises to the thief on the cross.

  191. Today you will be with me in paradise.

  192. That's what makes it paradise.

  193. It's our hope, even in death,

  194. that the moment we are absent from the body,

  195. we are where?

  196. Present with the Lord.

  197. It's the highlight of heaven.

  198. When the Bible talks about heaven,

  199. it builds all the way up

  200. and says,

  201. so we will always be with the Lord.

  202. Jesus loves us.

  203. The Bible tells us so in many places.

  204. But Jesus is driving at home on this final night

  205. when He's got to say the most important thing.

  206. I mean, an hour ago,

  207. He said,

  208. as the Father has loved me,

  209. so have I loved you.

  210. That's a lot.

  211. Earlier in this prayer,

  212. He says,

  213. He won't lose a one of us.

  214. We are so precious to Him,

  215. such a treasured gift.

  216. And now He prays,

  217. and we hear His love pouring from His heart,

  218. us to be with Him forever.

  219. It's actually more here about love, though.

  220. In this eternal relationship of perfect love,

  221. we now hear about the Father's love.

  222. Verse 24.

  223. Jesus' glory given from the Father

  224. because you loved me

  225. before the foundation of the world.

  226. What was God full of before creation?

  227. Father, Son, Spirit,

  228. and in perfect relationship,

  229. best we can understand it,

  230. so much by nature love,

  231. so full of love in that relationship

  232. that it overflowed into a world,

  233. into a people,

  234. into a love story.

  235. To write the love of God above

  236. would drain the oceans dry,

  237. nor could the scroll contain the whole,

  238. though stretched from sky to sky.

  239. Certainly, the Father loves the Son.

  240. That's what He's saying here,

  241. and we don't doubt that,

  242. that fully known,

  243. fully loved relationship.

  244. And when God loves,

  245. what does God do?

  246. God gives.

  247. In this case,

  248. we see He gives glory to Jesus.

  249. The essence of love

  250. is that self-giving relationship.

  251. Once again,

  252. it is actually the glory

  253. that Jesus is returning to

  254. and that He's bringing us into with Him.

  255. It's that loving relationship.

  256. See, we believe that the Father loves Jesus,

  257. don't we?

  258. His only begotten,

  259. perfectly obedient,

  260. always loving Son.

  261. Of course He loves Him.

  262. You know what we struggle to believe?

  263. We struggle to believe

  264. the Father loves us adopted,

  265. often disobedient,

  266. inconsistently loving sons.

  267. But verse 23 says this,

  268. I in them and you in me

  269. that they,

  270. that's us,

  271. may become perfectly one

  272. so that the world may know

  273. that you sent me

  274. and loved them

  275. even as you loved me.

  276. Loved them,

  277. my people,

  278. even as,

  279. just as,

  280. in the same way

  281. as you loved me,

  282. Jesus says.

  283. God delights in us,

  284. how?

  285. With an everlasting love,

  286. with a faithful,

  287. covenant,

  288. steadfast love

  289. that endures forever.

  290. Even when we break His covenant,

  291. He loves us like that.

  292. It's a forgiving love

  293. that restores failures

  294. because of the Father's love

  295. that gives.

  296. In our case,

  297. He gives us who?

  298. Jesus.

  299. You sent me,

  300. Jesus says.

  301. God so loved the world

  302. that He gave

  303. His only Son.

  304. Behold what manner of love

  305. the Father has given to us

  306. that we should be called

  307. sons of God,

  308. loved even as He loves His Son.

  309. See, His love is not based

  310. on perfection.

  311. It is based

  312. on His perfect character,

  313. His perfect love.

  314. It doesn't demand

  315. that the object of His love

  316. perform perfectly,

  317. color within the lines,

  318. keep life straight.

  319. It is as Sally Lloyd-Jones

  320. memorably describes it,

  321. a never stopping,

  322. never giving up,

  323. unbreaking,

  324. always and forever love.

  325. You know this part

  326. of the love story well.

  327. Father and Son

  328. having covenanted together

  329. before the foundation

  330. of the world

  331. to pour out their love

  332. on undeserving sinners

  333. now enact their plan

  334. in human history.

  335. In order to bring

  336. these many sons home

  337. to glory,

  338. God sends His only begotten Son

  339. to earth,

  340. to the cross,

  341. to demonstrate

  342. His own love for us

  343. in dying for us.

  344. And Jesus,

  345. as He prepares to do that,

  346. as He sees the cross coming

  347. from His loving heart,

  348. pleads with His Father

  349. to bring us home

  350. to share in the delight

  351. of being loved by the Father.

  352. It's what He wants us to experience

  353. because He knows how great it is.

  354. That His glorious relationship

  355. to which the Son knows

  356. He's returning soon,

  357. that's where we are headed.

  358. You and I,

  359. we're going to that same place.

  360. We can taste that future hope,

  361. that coming glory,

  362. even now,

  363. as we revel in God's love

  364. for us.

  365. I so love the picture

  366. of God's love

  367. that Ruth Graham shared

  368. at the funeral

  369. of her father,

  370. famous preacher,

  371. Billy Graham.

  372. Ruth was newly divorced,

  373. already devastated,

  374. when she found herself

  375. in another relationship

  376. that her parents

  377. and her children

  378. told her was not good

  379. for her.

  380. But she was far away

  381. from them

  382. and didn't want to listen.

  383. In her words,

  384. now,

  385. this is the rest

  386. of her story.

  387. Being stubborn,

  388. willful,

  389. and sinful,

  390. I married this man

  391. on New Year's Eve

  392. and within 24 hours,

  393. I knew I'd made

  394. a terrible mistake.

  395. After five weeks,

  396. I fled.

  397. I was afraid of him.

  398. What was I going to do?

  399. I wanted to go talk

  400. to my mother

  401. and my father.

  402. Understandable,

  403. she would want that,

  404. right?

  405. But would they want her?

  406. It was a two-day drive.

  407. Questions swirled

  408. in my mind.

  409. What was I going

  410. to say to daddy?

  411. What was I going

  412. to say to mother?

  413. What was I going

  414. to say to my children?

  415. I'd been such a failure.

  416. What were they going

  417. to say to me?

  418. We're tired

  419. of fooling with you.

  420. We told you not

  421. to do it.

  422. You've embarrassed us.

  423. You don't want

  424. to embarrass your father,

  425. but you really

  426. don't want to embarrass

  427. Billy Graham,

  428. she said.

  429. And as I rounded

  430. the last bend

  431. in my father's driveway,

  432. my father was standing

  433. there waiting for me.

  434. As I got out

  435. of the car,

  436. he wrapped his arms

  437. around me and he said,

  438. welcome home.

  439. There was no shame.

  440. There was no blame.

  441. There was no condemnation.

  442. There was just

  443. unconditional love.

  444. And you know,

  445. my father was not God,

  446. but he showed me

  447. what God was like

  448. that day.

  449. when we come to God

  450. with our sin,

  451. our brokenness,

  452. our failure,

  453. our pain,

  454. and our hurt,

  455. God says,

  456. welcome home.

  457. Unconditional love.

  458. Maybe Billy's love

  459. for Ruth is not

  460. that big of a stretch

  461. for you

  462. because you know

  463. you love your own kids.

  464. So,

  465. yeah,

  466. God loves Jesus.

  467. How could he not?

  468. But will you believe

  469. on the authority

  470. of God's word

  471. and the prayer

  472. of Jesus

  473. that God loves

  474. you

  475. like that too?

  476. Adopted child

  477. covered

  478. in the perfect

  479. spotless

  480. righteousness

  481. of the son?

  482. you don't want

  483. to embarrass

  484. your father.

  485. You really don't

  486. want to embarrass

  487. Billy Graham.

  488. But you mostly

  489. don't want

  490. to embarrass God,

  491. do you?

  492. Have you felt that

  493. anybody else

  494. when you've failed

  495. again?

  496. When you've

  497. tried it your own way?

  498. When you've failed

  499. to share his love?

  500. God knows it all.

  501. Everything in my heart

  502. what will he say?

  503. Except God

  504. is not embarrassed.

  505. He's not ashamed

  506. to be called

  507. your God,

  508. your father

  509. because your real

  510. home

  511. where you will be

  512. perfect forever

  513. and he knows it

  514. because he's making

  515. it so

  516. is with

  517. him.

  518. We don't need

  519. to doubt

  520. that he loves us

  521. because of what

  522. we feel.

  523. we don't need

  524. to search

  525. for love

  526. somewhere else.

  527. We don't need

  528. to fear

  529. that he's quit

  530. loving us

  531. because of our

  532. circumstances

  533. or our failures.

  534. Fully known,

  535. fully loved.

  536. That is our story.

  537. The one who knows

  538. us best

  539. loves us most.

  540. The father

  541. himself

  542. loves you.

  543. Jesus says

  544. the father

  545. himself

  546. loves you.

  547. Jesus' prayer

  548. closes

  549. by bringing

  550. our love

  551. into this

  552. glorious

  553. divine love.

  554. Jesus has

  555. revealed the

  556. father

  557. that the

  558. fullness

  559. of his

  560. love

  561. for us

  562. in fact

  563. he will

  564. by his

  565. spirit

  566. especially

  567. keep

  568. making

  569. the

  570. father

  571. known

  572. that the

  573. love

  574. with which

  575. you have

  576. loved me

  577. may be

  578. in them

  579. and I

  580. in them.

  581. What does it

  582. look like

  583. when the

  584. love of God

  585. the very

  586. love that he

  587. has for his

  588. son Jesus

  589. is in

  590. us?

  591. It means

  592. we too

  593. welcome

  594. home

  595. people

  596. deserving

  597. to be

  598. pushed

  599. away.

  600. It means

  601. as Jesus

  602. has already

  603. told his

  604. disciples

  605. to love

  606. one another

  607. as he

  608. has loved

  609. them

  610. that we

  611. give

  612. sacrificially

  613. washing

  614. one another's

  615. feet.

  616. It means

  617. that we're

  618. present with

  619. others

  620. as we

  621. long to be

  622. present with

  623. Jesus

  624. to abide

  625. in him

  626. and in fact

  627. he says

  628. not just

  629. his love

  630. in us

  631. but his

  632. very self

  633. in us

  634. by his

  635. spirit

  636. producing

  637. what?

  638. What fruit

  639. will the

  640. spirit

  641. produce?

  642. Where does

  643. it start?

  644. Do you

  645. know the

  646. first one?

  647. Love.

  648. Just a few

  649. minutes ago

  650. Jesus has

  651. said to

  652. them

  653. abide

  654. in

  655. my

  656. love

  657. as the

  658. father

  659. has loved

  660. me

  661. so have

  662. I loved

  663. you

  664. abide

  665. in my

  666. love.

  667. Stay

  668. there

  669. beloved

  670. make

  671. your

  672. home

  673. here

  674. delight

  675. in the

  676. voice

  677. of your

  678. father

  679. singing

  680. you

  681. to

  682. sleep

  683. rest

  684. in

  685. the

  686. loving

  687. embrace

  688. of

  689. the

  690. son

  691. only

  692. then

  693. will

  694. love

  695. like this

  696. overflow

  697. from you

  698. to lots

  699. of other

  700. people

  701. even more

  702. to the

  703. point of

  704. Jesus'

  705. prayer

  706. here

  707. only

  708. then

  709. will

  710. you

  711. start

  712. to

  713. taste

  714. the

  715. glory

  716. that's

  717. to come

  718. it's

  719. the thing

  720. he most

  721. wants

  722. for you

  723. Jesus

  724. is continuing

  725. even now

  726. even in

  727. moments

  728. like this

  729. to make

  730. the love

  731. of God

  732. known

  733. to you

  734. so that

  735. you become

  736. a part

  737. of the

  738. relationship

  739. of love

  740. that he

  741. prayed

  742. for you

  743. to know

  744. forever

  745. he's praying

  746. it because

  747. he and his

  748. father planned

  749. this from

  750. all eternity

  751. this is the

  752. relationship

  753. that you

  754. were made

  755. for

  756. it's the

  757. relationship

  758. you were

  759. redeemed

  760. for

  761. you don't

  762. need to

  763. leave here

  764. this morning

  765. thinking of

  766. how much

  767. you must

  768. love

  769. you need to

  770. leave here

  771. this morning

  772. thinking of

  773. how much

  774. you are

  775. loved

  776. that's where

  777. it starts

  778. that's where

  779. it comes

  780. from his

  781. spirit

  782. because see

  783. no matter

  784. what's going

  785. on in your

  786. life right

  787. now

  788. no matter

  789. how good

  790. it is

  791. no matter

  792. how hard

  793. it is

  794. it's another

  795. part of the

  796. great love

  797. story that's

  798. been going

  799. on since

  800. before the

  801. foundation

  802. of the

  803. world

  804. this is the

  805. part where

  806. God is

  807. continuing

  808. the good

  809. work that

  810. he began

  811. in you

  812. in terms

  813. of the

  814. great love

  815. story he

  816. has redeemed

  817. you and now

  818. he is

  819. remaking

  820. you into

  821. a perfectly

  822. pure

  823. radiant

  824. bride

  825. to give

  826. you to

  827. his son

  828. forever

  829. so that

  830. he can

  831. keep loving

  832. you perfectly

  833. and forever

  834. Jesus

  835. prays

  836. that you

  837. will be

  838. with him

  839. to see

  840. his glory

  841. the glory

  842. of love

  843. that we

  844. get a glimpse

  845. of here

  846. and then

  847. we get

  848. a more

  849. glistening

  850. picture of

  851. in

  852. revelation

  853. I want to

  854. read you

  855. just a few

  856. verses

  857. I want you

  858. to listen

  859. with longing

  860. and with

  861. joy

  862. for what's

  863. to come

  864. and I

  865. saw the

  866. holy

  867. city

  868. new

  869. Jerusalem

  870. coming

  871. down

  872. out

  873. of

  874. heaven

  875. from

  876. God

  877. prepared

  878. as a

  879. bride

  880. adorned

  881. for her

  882. husband

  883. and I

  884. heard a

  885. loud voice

  886. from the

  887. throne

  888. saying

  889. behold

  890. the dwelling

  891. place

  892. of God

  893. is with

  894. man

  895. he will

  896. dwell

  897. with

  898. them

  899. and they

  900. will be

  901. his

  902. people

  903. and God

  904. himself

  905. will be

  906. with

  907. them

  908. as their

  909. God

  910. he will

  911. wipe away

  912. every tear

  913. from their

  914. eyes

  915. and death

  916. shall be

  917. no more

  918. neither

  919. shall there

  920. be mourning

  921. nor crying

  922. nor pain

  923. anymore

  924. for the

  925. former things

  926. have passed

  927. away

  928. and he

  929. who was

  930. seated on

  931. the throne

  932. said

  933. behold

  934. I am

  935. making

  936. all

  937. things

  938. new

  939. and an

  940. angel

  941. says

  942. come

  943. I will

  944. show you

  945. the bride

  946. the wife

  947. of the

  948. lamb

  949. and he

  950. carried me

  951. away in

  952. the spirit

  953. to a

  954. great high

  955. mountain

  956. and showed

  957. me the

  958. holy city

  959. Jerusalem

  960. coming down

  961. out of

  962. heaven

  963. from God

  964. having

  965. the glory

  966. of God

  967. its radiance

  968. like a

  969. most rare

  970. jewel

  971. like a

  972. jasper

  973. clear

  974. as crystal

  975. you know

  976. who he's

  977. talking about

  978. that's

  979. you

  980. that's

  981. you

  982. and me

  983. shining

  984. sparkling

  985. as we

  986. never

  987. have

  988. before

  989. as we

  990. can't

  991. imagine

  992. feeling

  993. see the

  994. picture

  995. here is

  996. of the

  997. father

  998. overflowing

  999. with love

  1000. as he

  1001. brings the

  1002. bride

  1003. down the

  1004. aisle

  1005. to give

  1006. her

  1007. to his

  1008. son

  1009. in his

  1010. eyes

  1011. the

  1012. son's

  1013. eyes

  1014. are

  1015. overflowing

  1016. with

  1017. tears

  1018. because his

  1019. heart is

  1020. overflowing

  1021. with love

  1022. for his

  1023. bride

  1024. for us

  1025. for us

  1026. the ones

  1027. he

  1028. redeemed

  1029. the greatest

  1030. gift

  1031. of love

  1032. ever

  1033. and he's

  1034. received

  1035. and he's

  1036. overwhelmed

  1037. one more

  1038. section

  1039. and I

  1040. saw no

  1041. temple

  1042. in the

  1043. city

  1044. for its

  1045. temple

  1046. that's

  1047. our

  1048. temple

  1049. we're the

  1050. city

  1051. the bride

  1052. its

  1053. temple

  1054. is

  1055. the

  1056. Lord

  1057. God

  1058. the

  1059. almighty

  1060. and the

  1061. lamb

  1062. and the

  1063. city

  1064. has no

  1065. need of

  1066. sun

  1067. or moon

  1068. to shine

  1069. on it

  1070. for the

  1071. glory

  1072. of God

  1073. gives it

  1074. light

  1075. and its

  1076. lamp

  1077. is the

  1078. lamb

  1079. do you

  1080. hear that

  1081. do you

  1082. know why

  1083. you're

  1084. sparkling

  1085. there

  1086. why you're

  1087. shining

  1088. so

  1089. brilliantly

  1090. it's because

  1091. the God

  1092. of glory

  1093. and of

  1094. love

  1095. is shining

  1096. on you

  1097. bringing

  1098. you into

  1099. this

  1100. glorious

  1101. relationship

  1102. because

  1103. he wants

  1104. to be

  1105. with you

  1106. forever

  1107. just as

  1108. Wesley

  1109. looked down

  1110. the aisle

  1111. last week

  1112. and with

  1113. tears of

  1114. joy

  1115. and love

  1116. in his

  1117. eyes

  1118. as his

  1119. bride

  1120. Emma

  1121. came

  1122. down

  1123. to him

  1124. that's

  1125. how

  1126. Jesus

  1127. feels

  1128. about

  1129. you

  1130. having

  1131. you

  1132. being

  1133. given

  1134. to be

  1135. with

  1136. him

  1137. it's

  1138. the love

  1139. story

  1140. of the

  1141. whole

  1142. Bible

  1143. it's

  1144. the

  1145. whole

  1146. thing

  1147. and

  1148. then

  1149. not

  1150. just

  1151. does

  1152. Jesus

  1153. feel

  1154. that

  1155. way

  1156. but

  1157. the

  1158. father

  1159. having

  1160. given

  1161. his

  1162. bride

  1163. to

  1164. his

  1165. son

  1166. runs

  1167. away

  1168. while

  1169. the

  1170. ceremony

  1171. is

  1172. still

  1173. going

  1174. on

  1175. if you

  1176. will

  1177. to

  1178. welcome

  1179. us

  1180. home

  1181. to

  1182. prepare

  1183. the

  1184. fatted

  1185. calf

  1186. so

  1187. that

  1188. he

  1189. can

  1190. celebrate

  1191. with

  1192. us

  1193. and

  1194. pour

  1195. out

  1196. his

  1197. love

  1198. upon

  1199. us

  1200. too

  1201. that's

  1202. how

  1203. excited

  1204. he

  1205. is

  1206. God

  1207. goes

  1208. and

  1209. prepares

  1210. a

  1211. feast

  1212. of

  1213. love

  1214. for

  1215. us

  1216. revelation

  1217. calls

  1218. that

  1219. feast

  1220. of

  1221. love

  1222. the

  1223. marriage

  1224. supper

  1225. of

  1226. the

  1227. lamb

  1228. at

  1229. that

  1230. supper

  1231. the

  1232. bridegroom

  1233. who

  1234. loves

  1235. us

  1236. is

  1237. also

  1238. the

  1239. one

  1240. sacrificed

  1241. to

  1242. bring

  1243. us

  1244. home

  1245. he

  1246. makes

  1247. everything

  1248. new

  1249. for

  1250. his

  1251. bride

  1252. he

  1253. wipes

  1254. away

  1255. our

  1256. tears

  1257. he

  1258. clothes

  1259. us

  1260. in

  1261. white

  1262. he

  1263. loves

  1264. us

  1265. so

  1266. deeply

  1267. so

  1268. passionately

  1269. that

  1270. we

  1271. never

  1272. want

  1273. to

  1274. leave

  1275. each

  1276. other's

  1277. side

  1278. forever

  1279. so

  1280. this

  1281. morning

  1282. with

  1283. a

  1284. marriage

  1285. supper

  1286. of

  1287. the

  1288. lamb

  1289. in

  1290. the

  1291. future

  1292. what

  1293. we're

  1294. doing

  1295. is

  1296. we're

  1297. rehearsing

  1298. okay

  1299. it's

  1300. a

  1301. wedding

  1302. theme

  1303. we're

  1304. rehearsing

  1305. for

  1306. the

  1307. marriage

  1308. supper

  1309. here

  1310. right

  1311. here

  1312. at

  1313. this

  1314. table

  1315. the

  1316. great

  1317. high

  1318. priest

  1319. whose

  1320. name

  1321. is

  1322. love

  1323. is

  1324. also

  1325. the

  1326. great

  1327. sacrificial

  1328. lamb

  1329. and

  1330. though we

  1331. get only

  1332. a taste

  1333. here

  1334. of the

  1335. feast

  1336. of love

  1337. though we

  1338. see him

  1339. only through

  1340. a glass

  1341. dimly

  1342. we look

  1343. forward to the

  1344. day when we

  1345. we see him

  1346. face to face

  1347. and we become

  1348. like him

  1349. because we see him

  1350. in his glory

  1351. as he is

  1352. we become

  1353. fully known

  1354. and fully

  1355. loved

  1356. then

  1357. even

  1358. as he

  1359. now

  1360. fully

  1361. knows

  1362. us

  1363. and fully

  1364. loves

  1365. us

  1366. that's

  1367. where we're

  1368. headed

  1369. beloved

  1370. what

  1371. glory

  1372. Jesus told us

  1373. to do this

  1374. to celebrate

  1375. this feast

  1376. in remembrance

  1377. of him

  1378. the same night

  1379. he prayed

  1380. for us

  1381. he took

  1382. bread

  1383. and broke

  1384. it

  1385. and he

  1386. gave it

  1387. to his

  1388. disciples

  1389. as I

  1390. ministering

  1391. in his

  1392. name

  1393. give this

  1394. bread

  1395. to you

  1396. he said

  1397. take

  1398. and eat

  1399. this is

  1400. my body

  1401. given

  1402. for you

  1403. because I

  1404. love you

  1405. in the same

  1406. manner after

  1407. supper

  1408. he took

  1409. the cup

  1410. and said

  1411. this cup

  1412. is the

  1413. new covenant

  1414. in my

  1415. blood

  1416. shed for

  1417. many

  1418. for the

  1419. forgiveness

  1420. of sins

  1421. drink

  1422. from it

  1423. all of

  1424. you

  1425. for as

  1426. often

  1427. as you

  1428. eat

  1429. this

  1430. bread

  1431. and drink

  1432. this

  1433. cup

  1434. you

  1435. proclaim

  1436. the

  1437. Lord's

  1438. death

  1439. until he

  1440. comes

  1441. you

  1442. proclaim

  1443. he

  1444. loves

  1445. me

  1446. so

  1447. much

  1448. that he

  1449. gave

  1450. his

  1451. life

  1452. for me

  1453. if you

  1454. are his

  1455. beloved

  1456. your heart

  1457. is pounding

  1458. right now

  1459. according to your

  1460. own personality

  1461. in very different

  1462. ways

  1463. your heart

  1464. should be

  1465. pounding

  1466. with his

  1467. love

  1468. for you

  1469. so come

  1470. and eat

  1471. and rehearse

  1472. for the feast

  1473. of love

  1474. that you will

  1475. share

  1476. with him

  1477. forever

  1478. if

  1479. this all

  1480. sounds

  1481. nice

  1482. to you

  1483. but that's

  1484. not really

  1485. how you

  1486. feel

  1487. you're not

  1488. sure at

  1489. all that

  1490. you need

  1491. Jesus

  1492. love

  1493. or that

  1494. Jesus

  1495. could

  1496. really

  1497. love

  1498. you

  1499. then

  1500. don't

  1501. come

  1502. and take

  1503. these

  1504. elements

  1505. this

  1506. morning

  1507. we don't

  1508. want

  1509. to pretend

  1510. that

  1511. just

  1512. this

  1513. little

  1514. taste

  1515. of it

  1516. would be

  1517. what

  1518. would

  1519. fulfill

  1520. you

  1521. we want

  1522. you

  1523. to know

  1524. Jesus

  1525. first

  1526. you're

  1527. welcome

  1528. to come

  1529. and observe

  1530. to come

  1531. and pray

  1532. with us

  1533. or to sit

  1534. where you are

  1535. and just

  1536. consider

  1537. the love

  1538. of Jesus

  1539. shown in

  1540. its full

  1541. extent

  1542. right here

  1543. laid out

  1544. before you

  1545. and a

  1546. father

  1547. who sent

  1548. his son

  1549. to say

  1550. to you

  1551. welcome

  1552. home

  1553. let's pray

  1554. and then

  1555. we'll

  1556. celebrate

  1557. together

  1558. Jesus

  1559. thank you

  1560. for

  1561. this

  1562. reminder

  1563. of your

  1564. love

  1565. would it

  1566. be a

  1567. taste

  1568. of

  1569. glory

  1570. to us

  1571. because

  1572. there's

  1573. nothing

  1574. better

  1575. than

  1576. sitting

  1577. with you

  1578. and soaking

  1579. up your

  1580. love

  1581. use

  1582. common

  1583. elements

  1584. for that

  1585. for doing

  1586. something

  1587. very

  1588. eternal

  1589. in our

  1590. hearts

  1591. that we

  1592. would actually

  1593. believe

  1594. that you

  1595. love us

  1596. like this

  1597. and that

  1598. we would

  1599. look

  1600. forward

  1601. to seeing

  1602. that

  1603. and knowing

  1604. that fully

  1605. one day

  1606. we ask

  1607. in your

  1608. name

  1609. amen
