  1. Romans chapter 8 verse 1 to 17

    Romans 8:1–17

  2. Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus,

  3. because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death.

  4. For what the law was powerless to do in that it was weakened by the sinful nature,

  5. God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful man to be a sin offering.

  6. And so he condemned sin in sinful man in order that the righteous requirements of the law might be fully met in us,

  7. who do not live according to the sinful nature but according to the Spirit.

  8. Those who live according to the sinful nature have their minds set on what that nature desires,

  9. but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires.

  10. The mind of sinful man is death, but the mind controlled by the Spirit is life and peace.

  11. The sinful mind is hostile to God.

  12. It does not submit to God's law, nor can it do so.

  13. Those controlled by the sinful nature cannot please God.

  14. You, however, are controlled not by the sinful nature, but by the Spirit.

  15. If the Spirit of God lives in you,

  16. and if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Christ.

  17. But if Christ is in you, your body is dead because of sin,

  18. yet your spirit is alive because of righteousness.

  19. And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you,

  20. he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who lives in you.

  21. Therefore, brothers, we have an obligation,

  22. but it is not to the sinful nature to live according to it.

  23. For if you live according to the sinful nature, you will die.

  24. But if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body,

  25. you will live,

  26. because those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.

  27. For you did not receive a spirit that makes you a slave again to fear,

  28. but you received the Spirit of sonship,

  29. and by him we cry, Abba, Father.

  30. The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God's children.

  31. Now if we are children, then we are heirs,

  32. heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ,

  33. if indeed we share in his sufferings,

  34. in order that we may also share in his glory.

  35. Thanks very much, Joe.

  36. Sorry, there's notes.

  37. If anybody would like to take notes,

  38. there's pens and a sheet there,

  39. just put up your hands,

  40. and they will be passed to you.

  41. Thank you.

  42. Thank you.

  43. Thank you.

  44. So we're looking at supernatural people,

  45. how the gospel works in us.

  46. Well, there's a real fascination with the supernatural.

  47. For years, people have explored,

  48. and they've tried to understand the strange happenings

  49. that science and natural laws of physics can't explain.

  50. Everything from books to documentaries

  51. have tried to portray what they understand to be the supernatural.

  52. So what is the supernatural?

  53. Well, for many, it's something dark and sinister

  54. and associated more with the occult,

  55. such as the cult series on TV called Supernatural,

  56. which is all about two brothers fighting demons

  57. and the devil himself.

  58. Now, why we don't deny the reality of demons and the devil,

  59. for our purposes this morning,

  60. the supernatural is this,

  61. and I've got it up on the overhead, the screen.

  62. A supernatural act is a God intervention

  63. which is not explicable by natural or scientific laws.

  64. And that simply means that everyone who is a Christian

  65. is a supernatural person.

  66. Go back to chapter 7, verse 6.

  67. But now, by dying to what once bound us,

  68. we have been released from the law

  69. so that we serve in the new way of the Spirit

  70. and not in the old way of the written code.

  71. Chapter 8, verse 9.

  72. You, however, are controlled not by the sinful nature,

  73. but by the Spirit.

  74. You see, if we are Christians,

  75. if we're followers of the Lord Jesus,

  76. God has intervened into our lives by His Holy Spirit,

  77. enabling us to live a new kind of life

  78. that we naturally can't do ourselves.

  79. It is nothing less than a miracle.

  80. And having spent chapters 6 and 7

  81. explaining our ongoing battle with sin

  82. and our failure to keep all the laws

  83. and all the rules to make us better people,

  84. chapter 8 is this intervention

  85. to introduce us to the supernatural life

  86. that enables us to live God's way.

  87. Now, this life, this supernatural life,

  88. is only possible by the Holy Spirit.

  89. Now, before we get into this chapter in more detail,

  90. we must understand who and what the Holy Spirit does

  91. because there's a lot of talk about the Holy Spirit

  92. and there's a lot of confusion.

  93. And while Romans 8 doesn't give us all the answers,

  94. it does give us some very important foundations.

  95. So, three things about the Spirit

  96. before we get stuck into the passage.

  97. First, the Spirit is not a thing or an it.

  98. The Holy Spirit is a person,

  99. the person of Christ.

  100. Look at verse 9.

  101. You, however, are controlled not by the sinful nature,

  102. but by the Spirit,

  103. if the Spirit of God lives in you.

  104. And if anyone doesn't have the Spirit of Christ,

  105. he doesn't belong to Christ.

  106. So, the Spirit of God is the Spirit of Christ.

  107. He is not some unidentified mystery or force.

  108. He is the person of Christ in Spirit.

  109. Second, the Spirit is not a roaming power

  110. that we have to somehow try and capture in a jar

  111. and bring it home with us.

  112. The Holy Spirit is present.

  113. Look at verse 10.

  114. If Christ is in you,

  115. and verse 11.

  116. And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead

  117. is living in you,

  118. the Spirit is in you.

  119. In fact, it's stronger than that.

  120. He lives in you.

  121. And when we believe Christ,

  122. when we trust Christ,

  123. he takes up residence in our life.

  124. Our life becomes home to the Holy Spirit.

  125. So, he is personal.

  126. He is present.

  127. And then third,

  128. the Spirit is not just an emotional feeling

  129. to help us along every day.

  130. The Holy Spirit is a power.

  131. Verse 11.

  132. If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead

  133. is living in you,

  134. he who raised Christ from the dead

  135. will also give life to your mortal bodies

  136. through his Spirit who lives in you.

  137. So, the Spirit which raised Christ from the dead

  138. is in you.

  139. Christ who was dead

  140. and who came to life again

  141. did so by the Holy Spirit.

  142. And that Spirit is within us

  143. giving us new and eternal life.

  144. So, if we are believers,

  145. we are supernatural people.

  146. The Spirit of Christ

  147. living in us

  148. giving us life.

  149. Remember the big idea of Romans,

  150. the whole big picture

  151. of what it's all about.

  152. The purpose of Romans

  153. is to unite his people together

  154. to be partners

  155. in God's global mission.

  156. Now, none of us are going to get anywhere near that

  157. without the Holy Spirit at work.

  158. And that's what the Spirit does.

  159. He is God's giving life,

  160. his power to his people

  161. to enable us to live the kind of life

  162. that he has called us to

  163. so that we can be united

  164. to be partners

  165. in God's global mission.

  166. Well, with that background,

  167. let's get a bit further into the text

  168. and see what this supernatural life

  169. looks like in reality.

  170. The first thing is

  171. is that we are freed by the Spirit.

  172. The Holy Spirit

  173. applies the finished

  174. and completed work of Christ

  175. to our lives.

  176. Let's read from verse 1.

  177. Therefore, there is now no condemnation

  178. for those who are in Christ Jesus

  179. because through Christ Jesus

  180. the law of the Spirit of life

  181. set me free

  182. from the law of sin and death.

  183. Condemnation

  184. is the opposite to justification.

  185. If you're under condemnation

  186. it means to be under the sentence

  187. or judgment of God

  188. because of our disobedience.

  189. And the natural way

  190. that we try to deal with that

  191. is to up our performance,

  192. to become better people,

  193. to add more rules

  194. and laws to our life

  195. and to try and change ourselves.

  196. But as we've seen over the weeks,

  197. we haven't got the power to change us.

  198. It doesn't matter how many rules

  199. you put in place,

  200. it just means we've got more rules to break.

  201. It doesn't change us.

  202. Verse 3.

  203. For what the law was powerless to do

  204. in that it was weakened by our sinful nature,

  205. God did by sending his own Son

  206. in the likeness of sinful man

  207. to be a sin offering

  208. and so he condemned sin in sinful man.

  209. It's telling us that Christ came

  210. and exchanged places with us.

  211. He takes on all of our disobedience

  212. disobedience

  213. and he suffers our judgment.

  214. Therefore, there is now no condemnation

  215. for those who trust in Christ.

  216. Well, you're asking,

  217. where does the Spirit fit into all of this?

  218. Well, look at verse 2.

  219. It tells us,

  220. through Christ Jesus,

  221. the law of the Spirit of life

  222. sets us free

  223. from the law of sin and death.

  224. The Spirit,

  225. His work is to take the finished

  226. and completed work of Christ

  227. and to apply it to our lives.

  228. He takes the work of Christ on the cross

  229. and He makes it a reality

  230. in our lives.

  231. He opens up our minds

  232. so that we can see

  233. how Christ has transformed us.

  234. But not only that,

  235. it's not just an intellectual fact,

  236. it is something that is experienced

  237. in our life each and every day.

  238. It means that every time I fail and fall,

  239. which I do,

  240. and you do as well,

  241. all of our disobedience

  242. has been, past tense,

  243. been dealt with by Christ.

  244. And the Spirit continually applies

  245. the work of Christ to our lives

  246. so that we are forever free

  247. from His condemnation.

  248. We will never, ever be condemned

  249. because the Spirit continually

  250. and has done,

  251. applied the work of Christ to our life.

  252. But it doesn't stop there.

  253. We're free from condemnation

  254. for a purpose.

  255. Look at verse 4.

  256. We're free to obey.

  257. All this was done in order

  258. that the righteous requirements of the law

  259. might be fully met in us

  260. who do not live according

  261. to the sinful nature,

  262. but according to the Spirit.

  263. So not only does Christ

  264. take my disobedience

  265. and deal with it,

  266. but He actually gives me

  267. His obedience into our lives.

  268. So rather than being treated

  269. as a condemned sinner,

  270. I am now treated

  271. as a treasured child.

  272. And this new obedience

  273. that Christ has given to us

  274. isn't just a status

  275. or a position.

  276. It is that,

  277. but it's more than that.

  278. It's a daily reality.

  279. Look what it says

  280. at the end of verse 4.

  281. We do not live

  282. according to the sinful nature.

  283. We don't obey that,

  284. but we live according

  285. to the Spirit.

  286. So it's the Spirit again

  287. at work in our lives,

  288. freeing us from a life

  289. of disobedience

  290. and enabling and equipping us

  291. to live a life of obedience.

  292. And of course,

  293. all of this

  294. shouldn't have been

  295. a surprise to the people

  296. who were reading it

  297. for the first time

  298. because it was all

  299. what God had promised to do.

  300. Flick back to Ezekiel,

    Ezekiel 36 chapter mention

  301. chapter 36.

  302. If you've got a page number,

  303. someone can shout it out.

  304. Ezekiel, chapter 36.

    Ezekiel 36 chapter mention

  305. It's on page 867.

  306. Ezekiel 36.

  307. On page 867.

  308. And here is one of God's

  309. wonderful promises.

  310. In verse 26

  311. of Ezekiel 36,

  312. he says,

  313. I will give you a new heart.

  314. I will put a new spirit in you.

  315. I will remove from you

  316. your heart of stone

  317. and give you a heart of flesh.

  318. And here's the big point.

  319. I will put my spirit in you

  320. and move you

  321. to follow my decrees

  322. and to be careful

  323. to keep my laws.

  324. He puts His spirit

  325. in our life

  326. to move us

  327. to follow His laws.

  328. The Holy Spirit

  329. takes the obedience of Christ

  330. and He internalizes it

  331. into our lives.

  332. He changes us

  333. on the inside out.

  334. So rather than reject

  335. God's law,

  336. we love God's law.

  337. Now none of this is natural.

  338. We are not able

  339. to free ourselves

  340. from condemnation.

  341. We are not able

  342. to obey

  343. however we want.

  344. Without the supernatural

  345. work of Christ

  346. and without the supernatural

  347. work of His Spirit

  348. who applies this

  349. to our lives,

  350. we would never be able

  351. to live

  352. as He calls us to.

  353. So the Spirit

  354. frees us

  355. by applying

  356. the work of Christ

  357. to our life.

  358. Well that's the first step

  359. in the supernatural

  360. work.

  361. The second is

  362. that we're told

  363. we are controlled

  364. by the Spirit.

  365. The Holy Spirit

  366. applies

  367. the good

  368. and perfect

  369. law of Christ

  370. to our lives.

  371. Look at verse 5.

  372. Those who live

  373. according to

  374. the sinful nature

  375. have their minds

  376. set on what

  377. that nature desires.

  378. But those who live

  379. in accordance

  380. with the Spirit

  381. have their minds

  382. set on what

  383. the Spirit desires.

  384. So it's essentially

  385. telling us

  386. there are two ways

  387. to live

  388. or there are two kinds

  389. of people

  390. in this world.

  391. Lots of different

  392. nationalities,

  393. lots of different cultures,

  394. but essentially

  395. two people.

  396. There are unbelievers

  397. who live

  398. according to

  399. their sinful nature

  400. and there are those

  401. who are believers

  402. who live

  403. according to

  404. the Spirit.

  405. They're both

  406. described

  407. and outlined

  408. further.

  409. Look at verse 7.

  410. There are those

  411. who fight

  412. God's law.

  413. Verse 7.

  414. The sinful mind

  415. is hostile

  416. to God.

  417. It doesn't submit

  418. to God's law

  419. and nor

  420. can it do so.

  421. Our natural

  422. response

  423. or attitude

  424. to God's law

  425. is one of

  426. hostility.

  427. We don't like

  428. God telling us

  429. what to do

  430. and how we should

  431. live in this world.

  432. In fact,

  433. if we were to

  434. live by any

  435. kind of rules,

  436. we prefer to

  437. make up our

  438. own rules.

  439. Basically,

  440. that we have

  441. no rules at all

  442. and we can live

  443. however we want.

  444. our sinful

  445. nature

  446. reacts

  447. against God's

  448. law.

  449. We fight it

  450. rather than

  451. submit to it.

  452. Try and think

  453. of it

  454. this way.

  455. Take two

  456. magnets.

  457. I'm sure you've

  458. always played

  459. with magnets.

  460. If you have

  461. two magnets

  462. facing each

  463. other and the

  464. two poles

  465. are facing

  466. each other,

  467. they're going

  468. to react.

  469. the natural

  470. laws of

  471. physics

  472. means that

  473. one pushes

  474. against the

  475. other.

  476. If you hold

  477. one magnet

  478. up and put

  479. the other

  480. one against

  481. it,

  482. it will push

  483. off against

  484. it.

  485. Well,

  486. think of

  487. Christ,

  488. who is the

  489. dominant

  490. law.

  491. And as soon

  492. as we come

  493. close to

  494. Christ,

  495. it's like we

  496. push against

  497. it.

  498. Verse 8,

  499. those controlled

  500. by the sinful

  501. nature cannot

  502. please God.

  503. It doesn't

  504. mean to say

  505. that we

  506. can't do

  507. anything good.

  508. It simply

  509. means that we

  510. have no

  511. natural desire

  512. to please

  513. God.

  514. Our life is

  515. lived primarily

  516. to please

  517. self.

  518. We just

  519. naturally

  520. push away

  521. from God.

  522. So naturally,

  523. without the

  524. Spirit,

  525. we have no

  526. love for

  527. God's law.

  528. But when the

  529. Spirit comes

  530. into our life,

  531. all of that

  532. changes.

  533. We turn from

  534. people who

  535. fight the law

  536. into people

  537. who love

  538. the law.

  539. Because of

  540. the Spirit,

  541. Christians have

  542. a supernatural

  543. power at work

  544. so that we

  545. do love

  546. the law.

  547. Look at

  548. verse 9.

  549. You,

  550. however,

  551. if you're

  552. Christians,

  553. are controlled

  554. not by the

  555. sinful nature,

  556. but by the

  557. Spirit.

  558. Again,

  559. let's think

  560. of those

  561. magnets again.

  562. If we leave

  563. the one magnet

  564. here,

  565. the big

  566. one,

  567. the dominant

  568. one,

  569. and you

  570. take the

  571. other magnet

  572. and then

  573. turn it

  574. around,

  575. immediately

  576. there is a

  577. different reaction.

  578. Rather than

  579. a force that

  580. pushes against

  581. it,

  582. there is a

  583. force that

  584. pulls it

  585. together.

  586. And that's

  587. what happens

  588. to us when

  589. we stop being

  590. the control

  591. center of

  592. our lives.

  593. If we

  594. turn around

  595. in our

  596. lives,

  597. repent,

  598. and put

  599. Christ at

  600. the control

  601. center of

  602. our lives,

  603. then our

  604. whole life

  605. is reorientated

  606. towards

  607. Christ.

  608. Look back

  609. at the end

  610. of verse

  611. five.

  612. Those who

  613. live in

  614. accordance with

  615. the Spirit

  616. have their

  617. minds set

  618. on what the

  619. Spirit desires.

  620. So you see,

  621. once we turn

  622. around to

  623. Christ,

  624. rather than

  625. reject his

  626. law,

  627. rather than

  628. fight it and

  629. be hostile

  630. towards it,

  631. we will love

  632. his law.

  633. We will

  634. want to

  635. do what

  636. God says.

  637. There is a

  638. desire and

  639. a hunger

  640. within us

  641. that we

  642. want to

  643. obey.

  644. Not to

  645. try and

  646. earn God's

  647. favor,

  648. but as an

  649. expression of

  650. our love

  651. towards him.

  652. Now think

  653. about that,

  654. because none

  655. of that is

  656. natural.

  657. We do not

  658. love God's

  659. law by

  660. ourselves.

  661. What we

  662. need is a

  663. supernatural

  664. work of

  665. Christ and

  666. his Spirit

  667. applying,

  668. working that

  669. law out

  670. in our

  671. lives.

  672. Without

  673. the Spirit,

  674. we would

  675. never be

  676. able to

  677. live the

  678. life that

  679. God has

  680. called us

  681. to.

  682. So not

  683. only are we

  684. freed by

  685. the Spirit,

  686. not only are

  687. we controlled

  688. by the

  689. Spirit,

  690. but we are

  691. also people

  692. who are led

  693. by the

  694. Spirit.

  695. Because what

  696. the Spirit

  697. does is he

  698. applies the

  699. right and

  700. the beautiful

  701. way of

  702. Christ to

  703. our lives.

  704. Look at

  705. verse 12.

  706. Therefore,

  707. brothers and

  708. sisters,

  709. we have an

  710. obligation.

  711. In other

  712. words, we

  713. have a

  714. response to

  715. the way in

  716. which God

  717. works.

  718. But it's

  719. not to the

  720. sinful nature

  721. to live

  722. according to

  723. that.

  724. It's telling

  725. us that the

  726. Spirit leads

  727. us in a

  728. completely new

  729. way.

  730. Things that

  731. were once

  732. unnatural for

  733. us now

  734. become natural

  735. part of our

  736. daily living.

  737. And here

  738. are two

  739. things that

  740. should and

  741. ought to be

  742. natural for

  743. us in our

  744. lives.

  745. The first is

  746. killing off

  747. sin.

  748. Look at

  749. verse 13.

  750. For if you

  751. live according

  752. to the sinful

  753. nature, you

  754. will die.

  755. But if by

  756. the Spirit

  757. you put to

  758. death the

  759. misdeeds of

  760. the body,

  761. you will

  762. live.

  763. You see,

  764. before our

  765. faith in

  766. Christ,

  767. before we

  768. turned our

  769. lives around

  770. to him and

  771. reorientated

  772. ourselves around

  773. Christ,

  774. when we were

  775. at the

  776. control center

  777. of our

  778. lives, we

  779. were hostile

  780. to God's

  781. law.

  782. And as a

  783. consequence, we

  784. loved our

  785. sin.

  786. We loved

  787. doing our

  788. own things.

  789. We had no

  790. intention of

  791. fighting sin

  792. or killing

  793. it.

  794. We loved

  795. it.

  796. But now

  797. the Spirit

  798. gives us a

  799. new way.

  800. By the

  801. Spirit, we

  802. now want

  803. to kill

  804. off the

  805. sin in

  806. our lives.

  807. Verse 14.

  808. Because those

  809. who are led

  810. by the

  811. Spirit are

  812. children of

  813. God.

  814. You see, if

  815. we are

  816. children of

  817. God, we

  818. will be

  819. people who

  820. are led

  821. by the

  822. Spirit.

  823. And being

  824. led by the

  825. Spirit doesn't

  826. mean a

  827. particular

  828. direction about

  829. what kind of

  830. job I'm going

  831. to take or

  832. about which

  833. person I'm

  834. going to

  835. marry, no,

  836. being led

  837. by the

  838. Spirit in

  839. verse 14

  840. is connected

  841. to the

  842. putting to

  843. death the

  844. misdeeds of

  845. our lives in

  846. verse 13.

  847. He says,

  848. put to

  849. death the

  850. misdeeds of

  851. your body,

  852. the wrong

  853. actions,

  854. because that's

  855. what being

  856. led by the

  857. Spirit is.

  858. The Spirit

  859. enables us and

  860. equips us to

  861. kill off the

  862. sin, to

  863. fight it, to

  864. put up a

  865. battle against

  866. it.

  867. And on

  868. our own, we

  869. will naturally

  870. want sin.

  871. But with the

  872. Spirit, we

  873. now have a

  874. supernatural

  875. desire and

  876. a determination

  877. to say no

  878. to sin.

  879. Well, you

  880. say, okay, I

  881. get that, I

  882. still have this

  883. Spirit within

  884. me wanting to

  885. say no to

  886. sin, but I

  887. still do

  888. sin.

  889. Well, yes,

  890. that's true, it's

  891. an ongoing

  892. battle, and that's

  893. the tense in

  894. these verses

  895. here.

  896. It is

  897. something that

  898. is continuously

  899. done until we

  900. get to heaven.

  901. But there's

  902. something else

  903. that reminds

  904. us of this

  905. Spirit at

  906. work, this

  907. supernatural work

  908. in our lives.

  909. The Spirit

  910. not only helps

  911. us to kill

  912. off sin, but

  913. in our battle

  914. with sin, he

  915. leads us back

  916. to our

  917. Father.

  918. Look at

  919. verse 15.

  920. He says,

  921. For you

  922. didn't receive

  923. a spirit that

  924. makes you a

  925. slave again to

  926. fear.

  927. but you

  928. receive the

  929. spirit of

  930. sonship, or

  931. of adoption.

  932. You see, once

  933. we did live in

  934. fear of God, we

  935. were under his

  936. condemnation.

  937. But now, because

  938. of Christ, we've

  939. been set free from

  940. his judgment

  941. forever.

  942. That means, even

  943. with my sin, I

  944. can run to

  945. God, and I

  946. can call out to

  947. him as

  948. Father, without

  949. fear, because

  950. he has already

  951. paid the

  952. penalty of

  953. sin.

  954. And here's the

  955. big point in

  956. this.

  957. When we

  958. sin, our

  959. natural tendency

  960. is to hide

  961. from God, to

  962. run away, and

  963. to believe that

  964. we are still

  965. under condemnation.

  966. Isn't that how

  967. we are?

  968. Whenever we

  969. sin, we want

  970. to run and

  971. not tell God

  972. and pretend it

  973. didn't happen.

  974. But the

  975. Spirit moves

  976. us in the

  977. midst of our

  978. struggles to

  979. still cry out

  980. Father, because

  981. he is our

  982. Father.

  983. Verse 16, the

  984. Spirit himself

  985. testifies with

  986. our spirit that

  987. we are God's

  988. children, despite

  989. all of our sin

  990. and all of our

  991. failure and all

  992. of our mess.

  993. The Spirit makes

  994. us aware that we

  995. belong to him, and

  996. we can keep

  997. running back to

  998. him as our

  999. Father, and

  1000. there is nothing

  1001. to fear.

  1002. Again, this is

  1003. not natural.

  1004. Naturally, we

  1005. run to sin, and

  1006. we run away from

  1007. God.

  1008. But by the

  1009. supernatural work

  1010. of Christ and

  1011. his Spirit being

  1012. applied into our

  1013. lives, we now

  1014. have a completely

  1015. new way.

  1016. We run away

  1017. from sin, and

  1018. we run towards

  1019. our Father.

  1020. God.

  1021. So we are

  1022. people who are

  1023. freed by the

  1024. Spirit, controlled

  1025. by the Spirit, and

  1026. we're led by the

  1027. Spirit.

  1028. We are supernatural

  1029. people.

  1030. And the big

  1031. question is this,

1032. how can this be my

  1033. experience each and

  1034. every day?

  1035. How can I live as a

  1036. supernatural person?

  1037. Well, as we've seen

  1038. as we've gone through

  1039. this passage, the

  1040. work of Christ and

  1041. the Spirit of, sorry,

1042. the work of Christ and

  1043. the work of the

  1044. Spirit are not

  1045. separate from each

  1046. other, but they

  1047. are dependent on

  1048. each other.

  1049. The Spirit of

  1050. Christ applies the

  1051. work of Christ to

  1052. make us more like

  1053. Christ.

  1054. Christ.

1055. So that means if we

  1056. are to experience the

  1057. supernatural in our

  1058. lives, there are two

1059. things that I think we

1060. can do in response to

  1061. this.

  1062. First, we've got to

  1063. remind ourselves that

  1064. Christ, what Christ has

  1065. done for us.

  1066. We must remember the

  1067. gospel, remember the

  1068. work of Christ.

  1069. There's no longer any

  1070. condemnation.

1071. There is no longer any

1072. fear for those who are in

  1073. Christ.

  1074. We must teach

  1075. ourselves and remind

  1076. ourselves every day of

1077. the gospel of our new

  1078. position and our new

  1079. status.

1080. And second, we must pray

1081. that God by His Spirit

1082. will apply that work to

  1083. our lives, enabling us

1084. to live as someone who

  1085. is not condemned, equipping

1086. us to live as someone who

  1087. is without fear.

1088. And so we must ask God

  1089. continually for the power

1090. of His Holy Spirit to be

1091. at work in our lives, to

  1092. live supernaturally, to

  1093. live somebody who doesn't

  1094. feel the weight of

  1095. condemnation, but somebody

1096. who's been set free to

1097. serve God and to live for

  1098. Him.

  1099. Somebody who's free to

1100. fight sin and be able to

1101. run to our Father without

  1102. any fear at all.

  1103. We are supernatural

  1104. people because the

  1105. Spirit of God, the

  1106. Spirit of Christ, is

  1107. living within us.

  1108. We have a resource

1109. within us to live the

1110. kind of life that God

  1111. has called us to.

1112. We can't do it by our

  1113. own.

  1114. It's impossible.

  1115. We are powerless.

1116. But with the Spirit of

  1117. Christ, we are given

  1118. His power.

  1119. The Spirit that raised

  1120. Christ from the dead,

  1121. that power that raised

  1122. Him from the grave,

1123. is the same power at

1124. work in us to live His

  1125. life.

  1126. Let's pray together.

1127. Father, our Father God, we

  1128. recognize before You

  1129. again our complete

  1130. inadequacy, our

  1131. hopelessness, our

  1132. powerlessness to be able

1133. to change our lives in any

  1134. way at all.

1135. Thank You that You have

1136. given us the gift of Your

1137. Holy Spirit to be able to

  1138. live supernatural lives, to

1139. be able to fight the

1140. battle of sin so that we

  1141. can become more like

  1142. Christ.

1143. Thank You that it is You

  1144. working in us.

1145. It's not about what we can

1146. do, but what about Christ

  1147. has done for us.

1148. We pray that You would fill

  1149. us afresh with Your

  1150. Spirit.

1151. That we would respond to His

  1152. promptings and to His

  1153. work.

1154. That we would be people who

1155. go into this week enabled

1156. and equipped, ready to live

1157. for You in this world, to

1158. live supernatural lives, to be

1159. able to do all that You

  1160. have called us to.

1161. So we praise You and we

1162. thank You for all that You

1163. have done for us and all

1164. that You have given to us.

  1165. In Jesus' name, Amen.

  1166. Amen.

  1167. Amen.

  1168. Amen.

  1169. Amen.

  1170. God bless.

  1171. Amen.

  1172. Amen.

  1173. Amen.

  1174. Amen.

  1175. Amen.

  1176. Amen.

  1177. Amen.

  1178. Amen.

  1179. Amen.

  1180. Amen.

  1181. Amen.

  1182. Amen.

  1183. Amen.

  1184. Amen.

  1185. Amen.

  1186. Amen.

  1187. Amen.

  1188. Amen.

  1189. Amen.

  1190. Amen.

  1191. Amen.

  1192. Amen.

  1193. Amen.

  1194. Amen.

  1195. Amen.

  1196. Amen.

  1197. Amen.
