  1. Titus 2, 1-10

  2. Titus 3, 1-10

  3. Teach slaves to be subject to their masters in everything, to try to please them, not to talk back to them and not to steal from them, but to show that they can be fully trusted, so that in every way they will make the teaching about God our Saviour attractive.

  4. Thanks. Thanks, Kim.

  5. So, Titus chapter 2

    Titus 2 chapter mention

  6. And pure church

  7. Let's pray

  8. And ask for God's help as we look at this together.

  9. Our Father God, we thank you so much for your word. We thank you for this letter written many, many years ago.

  10. But yet it is still your words written to us today to speak to us not as individuals, but to speak to us as a church corporately.

  11. And so we gather together under your word asking that your spirit would give us understanding and application to our own hearts and lives.

  12. That what we hear and what we listen to and what we talk about afterwards would change us and affect us in how we live.

  13. So we pray that you would help us now in our time together in Jesus' name. Amen.

  14. Well, the big theme of this short letter, Titus, is all about being and becoming a pure church.

  15. And a key verse for this we see in chapter 2, verse 14.

  16. That Jesus Christ, who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own eager to do what is good.

  17. So God's desire is that we, his people, would become pure.

  18. That we would become like Christ.

  19. And that in turn, as we become like Christ, that we would reflect his purity and his beauty to the world and the community around us.

  20. And today we're looking at what it is to have pure relationships.

  21. And the purpose is exactly the same.

  22. So look at chapter 2, the end of verse 10.

  23. As we think about pure relationships, their purpose, the end of verse 10,

  24. so that in every way they will make the teaching about God our Saviour attractive.

  25. Our relationships with one another have the potential to reflect the beauty of God our Saviour.

  26. But our relationships also have the potential to make Christ look ugly.

  27. So we're going to look at three things this morning.

  28. First, getting our broken relationships in order.

  29. Second, living in pure relationship with each other.

  30. And third, reflecting a Christ relationship to the world.

  31. So we've got to get our relationships in order.

  32. We're going to see how living that pure relationship, what it looks like,

  33. and then how that in turn reflects the beauty of Christ to the world.

  34. So first of all, getting our broken relationships in order.

  35. You can flick that up on the screen there.

  36. Getting our broken relationships in order.

  37. In pure doctrine, false teaching has had a direct effect on the relationships within the church.

  38. So chapter 1, verse 11.

  39. They must be silenced.

  40. These are the false teachers.

  41. They must be silenced because they are ruining whole households

  42. by teaching things they ought not to teach.

  43. These households are small house churches.

  44. And because of the false teaching, they've begun to break up.

  45. Their impure teaching has led to all kinds of impure living within the family of the church.

  46. So look at chapter 2.

  47. The older men, verse 2, have become grumpy old men.

  48. They've lost people's respect.

  49. They've become uncontrolled in what they say and what they do.

  50. The older women, verse 3, have become gossipy old bags.

  51. Slandering others as they open up another bottle of wine.

  52. The younger women, verse 5, have become celebrity wannabes.

  53. They're too busy looking after themselves and wanting to run off and play

  54. and have neglected their responsibility to their children and husbands.

  55. The younger men, verse 6, have become obsessed with a playboy status.

  56. They have their heads stuck in men's bags rather than in God's word.

  57. The employed, verse 9, have become lazy and arrogant.

  58. Out to make as much as possible by doing as little as possible.

  59. So you see, this impure teaching is ruining these small churches.

  60. It's leading to all kinds of impure living.

  61. And the relationships within the church family are beginning to break up

  62. and they're not the way they should be.

  63. So how can we begin to heal and restore these broken relationships?

  64. Well, look at chapter 2, verse 1.

  65. You must teach what is in accord with sound doctrine.

  66. Verse 2, teach the older men.

  67. Verse 3, likewise teach the older women.

  68. Verse 6, similarly encourage the young men.

  69. And verse 9, teach the slaves or those who are employed.

  70. You see, if impure teaching breaks relationships,

  71. the solution is pure teaching.

  72. The sound doctrine, the good news of God's grace,

  73. taught to the church family and worked out into people's lives

  74. are going to restore those relationships.

  75. It's true, what we take into our lives is what we become.

  76. So if we eat all the wrong things, we become very unhealthy.

  77. But if we eat our fruit and veg, well, we become healthy.

  78. Similarly, he's saying here, if we are feeding on pure doctrine,

  79. if we are drinking it down with the pure grace of God,

  80. then he will renew us and he will restore us.

  81. God's grace purifies us.

  82. He washes us so that we can live in pure relationship with each other.

  83. So the means to get these broken relationships in order,

  84. the antidote, the solution,

  85. is a healthy diet of God's word,

  86. his grace being worked out in our lives.

  87. So second, getting our broken relationships in order,

  88. how do these relationships look like

  89. when they're being lived out amongst each other?

  90. Flick that up on the screen.

  91. As we look at the various relationships

  92. within the church family here in chapter two,

  93. it's probably hard for us to try and work out,

  94. and I've been joking with people through the week,

  95. kind of what category are you going to put yourself in?

  96. Are you an older man or are you a younger man?

  97. Or are you an old woman or a young woman?

  98. Well, I don't want to get myself into trouble

  99. and I'm not going to say, right, all the old women sit here

  100. and all the old men sit there or anything else like that.

  101. I don't want to cause offence.

  102. I'm just going to offend everybody

  103. and just say that, well, sometimes we're younger

  104. and sometimes we're older.

  105. There's always people who are older

  106. and there are always people that are younger.

  107. So I think it applies to us all

  108. in different contexts, depending who we're with.

  109. So don't be just kind of thinking,

  110. well, I'm not an older woman or I'm not an older man,

  111. so this doesn't apply to me.

  112. I think in some ways it applies to us all.

  113. And what we're going to do this morning

  114. is just look at the older, younger relationships,

  115. primarily this morning,

  116. just for the sake of time and just to focus in on that.

  117. So we're going to take a look at these relationships

  118. and see what they ought to look like in practice.

  119. First, older men, listen up.

  120. Verse 2.

  121. Teach older men to be temperate,

  122. worthy of respect,

  123. self-controlled,

  124. and sound in faith,

  125. sound in love,

  126. and sound in endurance.

  127. You know, there's a sad fact

  128. that as men get older,

  129. they become more grumpy.

  130. Have you experienced that

  131. if you live with an older man?

  132. I don't mean complaints

  133. about not being able to use the latest technology

  134. and how the mobile phone works

  135. and all that sort of stuff.

  136. I mean they can sometimes become

  137. impatient with people.

  138. Younger people just seem to become

  139. an irritable nuisance.

  140. They are not, look at verse 2,

  141. temperate or self-controlled

  142. in what they say and do.

  143. In fact, as they age,

  144. they begin to sadly lose all respect.

  145. Older men,

  146. we ought to be the kind of people

  147. that younger people

  148. want to be around

  149. and look up to.

  150. Okay, they might want to hang out with you.

  151. They might call you your best buddy

  152. and go to the cinema with you.

  153. But older men,

  154. we ought to have this kind of character

  155. about us

  156. that makes us approachable

  157. and that makes us attractive

  158. in the sense that people

  159. actually want to talk with us.

  160. wise and mature people,

  161. verse 2,

  162. who are sound in faith,

  163. have a good grasp

  164. of what God's word is about.

  165. Sound in love,

  166. who are solid

  167. in their love

  168. and in their endurance.

  169. They keep going in the faith.

  170. So young people

  171. shouldn't think of themselves

  172. as being an irritable nuisance,

  173. rather they should see you

  174. as one they can come to

  175. for encouragement

  176. when they're struggling

  177. in the faith.

  178. That they would come to you

  179. for comfort

  180. when life brings

  181. all the disappointments

  182. that it does.

  183. That you are a rock,

  184. someone who brings stability

  185. in times of uncertainty.

  186. for older men.

  187. We have a responsibility

  188. not just to our own family,

  189. but we have a real role

  190. to the whole church family.

  191. Younger men should be like

  192. your own son.

  193. The younger women

  194. should be like your own daughter.

  195. You should have that shoulder

  196. they can cry on.

  197. You should have that gentle

  198. word of correction

  199. when you see them

  200. going a path

  201. that is not going to be helpful.

  202. You gently get alongside

  203. and instruct.

  204. And you are the support

  205. that gets around them

  206. and encourages them on

  207. in their faith.

  208. So older men,

  209. let the sound doctrine,

  210. let the grace of God

  211. instruct your mind.

  212. Let it grab a hold

  213. of your heart

  214. and begin to shape

  215. your heart

  216. to be the older man

  217. that God has called you to be

  218. within the family

  219. of the church.

  220. Second,

  221. the older women.

  222. Verse 3.

  223. Likewise,

  224. teach the older women

  225. to be reverent

  226. in the way they live,

  227. not to be slanderers

  228. or addicted to too much wine,

  229. but to teach what is good.

  230. You know,

  231. it's also a sad fact

  232. that as women get older,

  233. they can become

  234. gossipy old bags.

  235. They become busybodies,

  236. poking their noses

  237. into people's business

  238. and then relaying it

  239. to their friends

  240. over a few bottles

  241. of Chardonnay.

  242. They're out to enjoy

  243. their retirement.

  244. They've raised their kids.

  245. Now it's time to kick back

  246. and enjoy life.

  247. Don't have kids anymore.

  248. Don't need to worry about them.

  249. Let me do the things

  250. I want to do.

  251. You know,

  252. there's something

  253. very unattractive

  254. about that kind of woman.

  255. Not very pleasant

  256. to be around.

  257. Instead,

  258. look at verse 3.

  259. They are to be

  260. reverent

  261. in the way

  262. that they live.

  263. Instead of smelling

  264. of stale wine,

  265. they should smell

  266. with the beauty of Christ

  267. as they walk

  268. into the room

  269. and as they engage

  270. and talk with people,

  271. there should be

  272. an aroma of Christ.

  273. And instead of thinking

  274. retirement,

  275. which the Bible

  276. actually knows

  277. nothing about,

  278. they should be

  279. investing

  280. in the younger mothers

  281. who are struggling.

  282. Look at verse 4.

  283. Then they can train

  284. the younger women

  285. to love their husbands

  286. and children.

  287. That's what older women

  288. are to do,

  289. to train the younger women

  290. to love their husbands

  291. and children.

  292. And you train

  293. the younger women

  294. by the things

  295. that you say

  296. as you get alongside them

  297. and the way

  298. that you live

  299. your life.

  300. The very fact

  301. that you're older

  302. means that you have

  303. a wealth of experience.

  304. It's not that

  305. you're perfect.

  306. It's not that

  307. you've done

  308. nothing wrong.

  309. It means you've

  310. made lots of mistakes

  311. but you've learned

  312. from your mistakes.

  313. You've been there,

  314. done that,

  315. you've got the t-shirt.

  316. Sweat,

  317. blood and tears

  318. are your experience

  319. and you can pass

  320. that on

  321. to those

  322. who are younger.

  323. So I'm going to

  324. push the boat out

  325. this morning.

  326. I've already called

  327. the older men

  328. grumpy old men

  329. and women

  330. old bags

  331. so let's push

  332. the boat right out.

  333. Those who go

  334. to polo,

  335. I think it's primarily

  336. younger women,

  337. why don't you

  338. invite

  339. some of the

  340. older women,

  341. I'll let you

  342. decide who they are,

  343. to come and share

  344. God's word

  345. with you,

  346. to let them

  347. sit

  348. to encourage you

  349. and to support

  350. you as young

  351. mothers.

  352. That's the role

  353. of older women.

  354. And those of you

  355. who go to

  356. the ladies'

  357. study,

  358. on the

  359. Thursday,

  360. think about

  361. how you can

  362. practically

  363. help those

  364. with young

  365. children.

  366. What can we do

  367. to support

  368. the many

  369. young families

  370. and those

  371. with younger

  372. kids

  373. in the life

  374. of the church?

  375. Now we might

  376. kind of struggle

  377. with that

  378. and think,

  379. hmm,

  380. not so sure

  381. about it,

  382. but this is

  383. what the family

  384. relationship

  385. looks like.

  386. responsibility

  387. to one

  388. another.

  389. So,

  390. let the

  391. sound doctrine,

  392. let the

  393. grace of God,

  394. older women,

  395. instruct your

  396. minds,

  397. grab your

  398. heart,

  399. and shape

  400. your heart

  401. to be the

  402. older women

  403. that God

  404. has called

  405. you to be.

  406. third,

  407. the younger

  408. women,

  409. verse 5.

  410. they are to

  411. be self-controlled

  412. and pure,

  413. to be

  414. busy at

  415. home,

  416. to be

  417. kind,

  418. to be

  419. subject to

  420. their husbands

  421. so that

  422. no one

  423. will malign

  424. the word

  425. of God.

  426. you know,

  427. it's also

  428. true that

  429. many younger

  430. women live

  431. life regretting

  432. that they

  433. ever got

  434. married,

  435. regretting

  436. that they've

  437. ever had

  438. children.

  439. They would

  440. much prefer

  441. to be out

  442. gallivanting

  443. with their

  444. friends,

  445. not having

  446. to be at

  447. home,

  448. changing

  449. nappies.

  450. They have

  451. neglected

  452. their

  453. responsibility

  454. to their

  455. children and

  456. husbands,

  457. and are

  458. still running

  459. about living

  460. as if they

  461. are single.

  462. Instead,

  463. verse 5,

  464. they are

  465. to be

  466. self-controlled,

  467. pure,

  468. busy at

  469. home.

  470. Or better

  471. translated,

  472. I think,

  473. that busy

  474. at home

  475. is working

  476. at home,

  477. loving

  478. their

  479. home.

  480. Because

  481. there's a

  482. big lie

  483. out there

  484. today that

  485. says,

  486. caring for

  487. children

  488. and looking

  489. after the

  490. family home

  491. is actually

  492. a downgrade.

  493. If that's

  494. what you

  495. do,

  496. it's

  497. demeaning

  498. and it

  499. ruins your

  500. chances of

  501. a real

  502. career.

  503. Well,

  504. I want to

  505. address and

  506. I want to

  507. encourage every

  508. mother of

  509. children represented

  510. here,

  511. especially

  512. those who

  513. are younger

  514. mothers.

  515. far from

  516. being a

  517. low

  518. position,

  519. this is

  520. a high

  521. position,

  522. far from

  523. a second

  524. rate career

  525. and as if

  526. you're kind

  527. of taking

  528. a step

  529. down,

  530. this is

  531. a step

  532. up.

  533. This is a

  534. great career,

  535. this is a

  536. God-given

  537. blessed

  538. career.

  539. Of course,

  540. it doesn't

  541. mean that

  542. mothers can't

  543. pursue an

  544. outside

  545. profession.

  546. Of course

  547. they can.

  548. But it

  549. will never

  550. be to the

  551. neglect of

  552. their own

  553. children and

  554. husbands.

  555. Young

  556. women,

  557. if you

  558. are married

  559. and if

  560. you have

  561. children,

  562. your primary

  563. responsibility,

  564. as God's

  565. word is

  566. saying here

  567. in verse

  568. five, is

  569. to love

  570. them well,

  571. is to

  572. care for

  573. them well.

  574. That's your

  575. first responsibility.

  576. And to

  577. love your

  578. husband,

  579. verse five,

  580. is to

  581. be subject

  582. to your

  583. husband.

  584. Of course,

  585. that doesn't

  586. mean that

  587. the wife

  588. is this

  589. obedient

  590. one around

  591. the house

  592. who obeys

  593. the husband's

  594. every beck and

  595. call as if

  596. she were

  597. kind of

  598. subhuman.

  599. And below

  600. everybody else,

  601. that is not

  602. the right

  603. interpretation.

  604. That's wrong.

  605. We know from

  606. the rest of

  607. scripture that

  608. a husband's

  609. responsibility

  610. is to

  611. serve his

  612. wife with

  613. sacrificial

  614. love and

  615. care.

  616. Sacrificially.

  617. So to be

  618. subject to

  619. your husband

  620. is to

  621. live under

  622. his loving

  623. and protective

  624. care and

  625. not to be

  626. out gallivanting

  627. or running

  628. around looking

  629. for that

  630. love and

  631. care from

  632. someone else

  633. or something

  634. else.

  635. This is

  636. God's

  637. beautiful

  638. design for

  639. home and

  640. for family

  641. relationships.

  642. So,

  643. younger women,

  644. let the

  645. sound

  646. doctrine,

  647. let the

  648. grace of

  649. God instruct

  650. your mind.

  651. Let it

  652. grab a hold

  653. of your

  654. heart and

  655. shape your

  656. heart to

  657. be the

  658. younger woman

  659. that God

  660. has called

  661. you to

  662. be.

  663. The

  664. fourth in

  665. this list of

  666. relationships that

  667. we're looking

  668. at is

  669. younger men.

  670. Verse

  671. six,

  672. similarly

  673. encourage the

  674. young men to

  675. be self-controlled.

  676. It's

  677. true that

  678. young men

  679. today have

  680. one aim

  681. in life.

  682. That's to

  683. meet lots

  684. of young

  685. women and

  686. to have

  687. sex with

  688. them.

  689. That's the

  690. average young

  691. man's outlook

  692. on life.

  693. Go to

  694. college,

  695. interview

  696. them,

  697. that's what

  698. they're about.

  699. And

  700. sadly,

  701. it's becoming

  702. the practice

  703. within church

  704. life.

  705. Now,

  706. from what I

  707. know of

  708. the young

  709. single men

  710. within the

  711. family of

  712. this church,

  713. and I

  714. do try to

  715. keep tabs

  716. on you

  717. all,

  718. have my

  719. spies out

  720. there,

  721. I don't

  722. think that

  723. is necessarily

  724. the case.

  725. However,

  726. what I want

  727. to say to

  728. the younger

  729. men is

  730. that you

  731. must be

  732. very,

  733. very careful

  734. how you

  735. treat

  736. younger

  737. women.

  738. You are

  739. to learn,

  740. verse five,

  741. to be

  742. self-controlled.

  743. Self-control

  744. covers every

  745. area of

  746. our life.

  747. It covers

  748. our words

  749. and our

  750. actions,

  751. how we

  752. speak,

  753. how we

  754. behave,

  755. but in

  756. particular,

  757. and I

  758. want to

  759. focus on

  760. this,

  761. self-control

  762. over your

  763. sexual life.

  764. Instead of

  765. watching

  766. internet

  767. porn,

  768. delight

  769. yourself

  770. in God's

  771. word.

  772. here is

  773. how you

  774. must treat

  775. younger

  776. women.

  777. Go back

  778. a couple

  779. of pages

  780. to 1

  781. Timothy

  782. chapter

  783. five.

  784. There are

  785. a lot of

  786. parallels

  787. between

  788. Titus and

  789. Timothy.

  790. 1

  791. Timothy

  792. chapter

  793. five,

  794. verse

  795. one.

  796. Here is

  797. how younger

  798. women should

  799. behave.

  800. Sorry,

  801. younger men

  802. should behave.

  803. Paul is

  804. writing to

  805. Timothy,

  806. who is a

  807. young man,

  808. and so he

  809. says to the

  810. young man,

  811. and I think

  812. here is the

  813. principle for

  814. us,

  815. young men

  816. do not

  817. rebuke an

  818. older man

  819. harshly,

  820. but exhort

  821. him as if

  822. he were

  823. your father.

  824. Treat

  825. younger men

  826. as brothers.

  827. Treat

  828. older women

  829. as your

  830. mother.

  831. And here is

  832. the point.

  833. Treat

  834. younger women

  835. as sisters

  836. with

  837. absolute

  838. purity.

  839. I hope

  840. you got

  841. that.

  842. And I

  843. want to

  844. say to

  845. you young

  846. lads,

  847. enjoy your

  848. relationships

  849. with the

  850. young women,

  851. by that I

  852. mean your

  853. friendships.

  854. hang out

  855. with each

  856. other in

  857. the safety

  858. of a

  859. crowd.

  860. Enjoy

  861. those young

  862. years together,

  863. have fun

  864. together,

  865. but young

  866. men,

  867. treat them

  868. as your

  869. sister with

  870. absolute

  871. purity.

  872. Be a

  873. big brother

  874. to them,

  875. not a

  876. creepy

  877. leecher.

  878. love

  879. love

  880. love

  881. so young

  882. men,

  883. let the

  884. sound

  885. doctrine,

  886. let the

  887. grace of

  888. God

  889. instruct

  890. your

  891. mind,

  892. let it

  893. grab a

  894. hold of

  895. your

  896. heart

  897. and shape

  898. your

  899. heart

  900. to be

  901. the

  902. godly

  903. younger

  904. man

  905. that God

  906. has called

  907. you to

  908. be.

  909. so older

  910. men

  911. and older

  912. women,

  913. younger

  914. men and

  915. younger

  916. women,

  917. that's all

  918. of us who

  919. are here.

  920. Our

  921. relationships

  922. within the

  923. church

  924. family

  925. are to be

  926. pure

  927. and we

  928. need to

  929. pray that

  930. God by

  931. his

  932. Holy

  933. Spirit

  934. will

  935. purify

  936. us

  937. so that

  938. we are

  939. eager to

  940. do

  941. what

  942. is

  943. good.

  944. Third,

  945. reflecting a

  946. Christ

  947. relationship

  948. to the

  949. world.

  950. You see,

  951. the purpose

  952. of getting

  953. our broken

  954. relationships

  955. in order,

  956. the reason

  957. for living

  958. in pure

  959. relationship

  960. with each

  961. other,

  962. is

  963. beautifully

  964. described

  965. at the

  966. end of

  967. verse 10.

  968. Yes,

  969. it's talking

  970. there primarily

  971. about employees

  972. and employers,

  973. but I think

  974. it applies to

  975. all relationships.

  976. Look at the

  977. end of

  978. verse 10.

  979. Here's the

  980. purpose,

  981. here's the

  982. reason,

  983. so that

  984. in every

  985. way,

  986. they will

  987. make the

  988. teaching

  989. about God

  990. our

  991. Saviour

  992. attractive.

  993. So,

  994. class,

  995. listen up,

  996. question time.

  997. What will

  998. make someone

  999. want to

  1000. listen to

  1001. the grace

  1002. of Jesus

  1003. Christ?

  1004. What will

  1005. make someone

  1006. want to

  1007. listen to

  1008. the grace

  1009. of Jesus

  1010. Christ,

  1011. to the

  1012. teaching?

  1013. Answer,

  1014. they see

  1015. lives within

  1016. the church

  1017. family that

  1018. have been

  1019. transformed

  1020. by the

  1021. grace of

  1022. Jesus

  1023. Christ.

  1024. Our

  1025. relationships

  1026. are to

  1027. make the

  1028. teaching

  1029. about God

  1030. our Saviour

  1031. attractive to

  1032. the world

  1033. and to

  1034. the community.

  1035. Church

  1036. family

  1037. relationships

  1038. between the

  1039. older and

  1040. the younger,

  1041. between men

  1042. and women

  1043. in all their

  1044. various forms

  1045. are to be

  1046. lived under

  1047. the grace

  1048. of God

  1049. and when

  1050. they are

  1051. lived under

  1052. the grace

  1053. of God

  1054. they are

  1055. incredibly

  1056. beautiful to

  1057. look at.

  1058. The church

  1059. of God

  1060. is the

  1061. most wonderful

  1062. thing to

  1063. see.

  1064. And when

  1065. we see

  1066. our pure

  1067. relationships

  1068. in action

  1069. they are

  1070. deeply

  1071. attractive.

  1072. There is

  1073. nothing more

  1074. beautiful to

  1075. see older

  1076. men and

  1077. older women

  1078. and younger

  1079. men and

  1080. younger women

  1081. living their

  1082. lives under

  1083. God's grace.

  1084. That is

  1085. beautiful.

  1086. You don't

  1087. see that

  1088. anywhere else

  1089. in the

  1090. world.

  1091. That's what

  1092. the church

  1093. is about.

  1094. So as

  1095. people watch

  1096. us,

  1097. as people

  1098. admire,

  1099. they are

  1100. drawn into

  1101. the teaching

  1102. about God

  1103. our

  1104. Saviour.

  1105. And pure

  1106. relationships

  1107. are worth

  1108. putting the

  1109. effort into.

  1110. They are

  1111. worth working

  1112. hard for.

  1113. Look at the

  1114. end of

  1115. verse 5,

  1116. the very

  1117. last sentence,

  1118. so that

  1119. no one

  1120. will malign

  1121. the word

  1122. of God.

  1123. That we

  1124. actually begin

  1125. to look like

  1126. the Christ

  1127. that we

  1128. talk about

  1129. and that

  1130. we say

  1131. we follow.

  1132. Our pure

  1133. relationships

  1134. are what we

  1135. work towards.

  1136. look at the

  1137. end of

  1138. verse 8,

  1139. so that

  1140. those who

  1141. oppose you

  1142. may be

  1143. ashamed

  1144. because they

  1145. have nothing

  1146. bad to

  1147. say about

  1148. us.

  1149. In other

  1150. words,

  1151. that we

  1152. behave in

  1153. such a

  1154. way that

  1155. it proves

  1156. the Christ

  1157. we believe

  1158. in is

  1159. true.

  1160. If our

  1161. pure

  1162. relationships

  1163. have the

  1164. ability to

  1165. attract

  1166. people to

  1167. Christ,

  1168. then the

  1169. opposite is

  1170. also true.

  1171. Impure,

  1172. broken,

  1173. damaged

  1174. relationships

  1175. make Jesus

  1176. Christ look

  1177. ugly to

  1178. the world

  1179. and to the

  1180. community

  1181. around us.

  1182. So what

  1183. kind of

  1184. Christ

  1185. do people

  1186. see when

  1187. they look at

  1188. our relationships

  1189. one to

  1190. another?

  1191. what kind

  1192. of Christ

  1193. do we

  1194. display to

  1195. the world?

  1196. A small

  1197. diamond

  1198. stone,

  1199. just a

  1200. tiny little

  1201. stone,

  1202. has value,

  1203. has worth,

  1204. and it has a

  1205. certain beauty.

  1206. But when the

  1207. jeweller takes

  1208. that diamond

  1209. stone and

  1210. then he

  1211. places it

  1212. into a

  1213. little gold

  1214. band to

  1215. make a

  1216. ring,

  1217. and then

  1218. he lifts

  1219. the diamond

  1220. up on

  1221. the ring

  1222. so that

  1223. the light

  1224. catches it

  1225. and it

  1226. begins to

  1227. sparkle and

  1228. to shine,

  1229. then and

  1230. only then

  1231. do we see

  1232. the diamond's

  1233. true value,

  1234. its ultimate

  1235. worth and

  1236. its excellent

  1237. beauty.

  1238. And in the

  1239. same way

  1240. God has

  1241. placed the

  1242. diamond of

  1243. God's grace,

  1244. the grace of

  1245. Christ,

  1246. into our

  1247. lives.

  1248. love and

  1249. love and

  1250. it's

  1251. embedded into

  1252. our lives

  1253. when we've

  1254. trusted him

  1255. and when we

  1256. begin to

  1257. live out our

  1258. relationships with

  1259. each other

  1260. as he

  1261. intends,

  1262. then and

  1263. only then

  1264. can the

  1265. world see

  1266. the true

  1267. value,

  1268. the ultimate

  1269. worth and

  1270. the excellent

  1271. beauty of

  1272. God,

  1273. our

  1274. Saviour,

  1275. Jesus Christ.

  1276. It's only

  1277. as we

  1278. begin to

  1279. live out

  1280. our faith

  1281. that the

  1282. gospel begins

  1283. to shine

  1284. brightly and

  1285. people are

  1286. attracted,

  1287. they are

  1288. drawn in

  1289. to the

  1290. teaching of

  1291. God,

  1292. our Saviour.

  1293. That is

  1294. something

  1295. wonderful

  1296. that the

  1297. church has.

  1298. So let

  1299. me say

  1300. this in

  1301. closing to

  1302. us all.

  1303. Let the

  1304. sound

  1305. doctrine,

  1306. let the

  1307. grace of

  1308. God our

  1309. Saviour

  1310. instruct our

  1311. minds,

  1312. let it

  1313. grab a

  1314. hold of

  1315. our hearts,

  1316. let it

  1317. pummel it

  1318. and shape

  1319. it and

  1320. transform our

  1321. hearts so

  1322. that we

  1323. become pure

  1324. in our

  1325. relationships

  1326. one to

  1327. another.

  1328. and reflect

  1329. the beauty

  1330. of Christ

  1331. to the

  1332. community

  1333. and to

  1334. the world

  1335. around us.

  1336. Let's

  1337. pray.

  1338. Amen.

  1339. older men,

  1340. older women,

  1341. younger men

  1342. and younger

  1343. women,

  1344. may the

  1345. grace of

  1346. God work

  1347. deeply in

  1348. our lives

  1349. so that

  1350. we become

  1351. the people

  1352. you call

  1353. us to

  1354. be.

  1355. That you

  1356. would

  1357. continually

  1358. purify

  1359. us and

  1360. shape

  1361. us.

  1362. And in

  1363. your mercy

  1364. and in

  1365. your goodness

  1366. that we

  1367. would let

  1368. the gospel

  1369. shine

  1370. brightly.

  1371. that as

  1372. we walk

  1373. into this

  1374. world and

  1375. into this

  1376. community

  1377. that people

  1378. will be

  1379. attracted

  1380. to the

  1381. gospel of

  1382. Jesus

  1383. Christ.

  1384. We thank

  1385. you so much

  1386. for this

  1387. church family.

  1388. Thank you

  1389. so much for

  1390. every single

  1391. person and

  1392. every family

  1393. represented

  1394. here.

  1395. thank you

  1396. for bringing

  1397. us together

  1398. from all

  1399. different kinds

  1400. of backgrounds.

  1401. Thank you
