  1. and Bethany at the Mount of Olives, Jesus said to two of his disciples, saying to them,

  2. go to the village ahead of you, and just as you enter it, you will find a colt tied there,

  3. which no one has ever ridden. Untie it and bring it here. If anyone asks you, why are you doing

  4. this? Tell them, the Lord needs it, and he will send it back here shortly. They went and found

  5. a colt outside the street, and tied it at the doorway. As they untied it, some people standing

  6. there asked, what are you doing untying that colt? They answered as Jesus had told them to,

  7. and the people let them go. When they brought the colt to Jesus and threw their cloaks over it,

  8. he sat on it. Many people spread their cloaks on the road, while others spread branches they had

  9. caught in the fields. Those who went ahead and those who followed shouted, Hosanna! Blessed is he

  10. who comes in the name of the Lord. Blessed is the coming kingdom of our father David. Hosanna in the

  11. highest. Jesus entered Jerusalem and went to the temple. He looked around at everything, but since

  12. it was already late, he went out to Bethany with the twelve. The next day, as they were leaving

  13. Bethany, Jesus was hungry. Seeing the distance, a fig tree in leaf, he went to find out if it had any

  14. fruit. When he reached it, he found nothing but leaves, because it was not the season for figs.

  15. Then he said to the tree, may no one ever eat fruit from you again, and his disciples heard him say it.

  16. On reaching Jerusalem, Jesus entered the temple area and began driving out those who were buying and

  17. selling there. He overturned the tables of money changers and the benches of those selling doves,

  18. and would not allow anyone to carry merchandise to the temple courts. As he taught them, he said,

  19. Is it not written, My house will be called a house of prayer for all nations? But you have made it a den

  20. of robbers. Chief priests and teachers of the law heard this and began looking for a way to kill him,

  21. for they feared him, because the whole crowd were amazed at his teaching. When evening came,

  22. they went out of the city. In the morning, as they went along, they saw the fig tree withered from

  23. the roots. Peter remembered and said to Jesus, Rabbi, look, the fig tree you cursed has withered.

  24. Have faith in God, Jesus said. I tell you the truth, if anyone says to this mountain,

  25. go throw yourself into the sea, and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says will

  26. happen, it will be done for him. Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer,

  27. believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. And when you stand praying,

  28. if you hold anything against anyone, forgive him, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins.

  29. Please keep your Bibles open there, and we'll look at that in just a sec.

  30. Well, let's pray and ask for God's help as we look at his word together. Let's pray.

  31. Father God, we thank you so much for your word. We thank you for having a gospel, the gospel of Mark,

  32. which has been written down, recorded for us, so that we can learn about who Jesus is,

  33. and all that he has done for us. We pray now, Father, that you would speak to us through your word.

  34. Help us to listen well, and help us to be people who see Jesus for who he is,

  35. and that we may be encouraged and built up. We pray this in Jesus' name. Amen.

  36. Amen.

  37. Our present government are now halfway through their five-year term.

  38. But with another tough budget proposed next month, the support is most definitely dwindling.

  39. Recent polls show that they have lost points, while the opposition have all gained points.

  40. Now, how different that is to the early days.

  41. They were welcomed into office with enthusiastic cheers, the saviors of our land.

  42. But great expectations have come crashing down.

  43. One moment, they are the hope of the nation.

  44. The next, they are public enemy number one.

  45. Well, the crowds that were following Jesus towards Jerusalem were expecting great things.

  46. They had lived under foreign rule for the best part of 600 years, most recently under the might of the Romans.

  47. But now Jesus had come displaying his supreme power and absolute authority.

  48. He had raised the dead.

  49. He had controlled nature.

  50. He had fed the hungry with just a few loaves and a couple of fish.

  51. Expectations were high.

  52. Look at verse 9, chapter 11.

  53. Those who followed, or those who went ahead of Jesus and those who followed shouted,

  54. Hosanna!

  55. Which means save!

  56. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.

  57. The saviour of their nation had come.

  58. But within a day, those expectations had crashed.

  59. Look at verse 18.

  60. The chief priests and the teachers of the law heard this and began looking for a way to kill him.

  61. In fact, very soon, everyone would be on the side of the chief priests.

  62. One moment, they were the hope of the nation.

  63. The next, he was public enemy number one.

  64. Was Jesus the king as he claimed?

  65. Or was he some political failure?

  66. Well, as Jesus arrives into Jerusalem, the final week before his death,

  67. we see that he is a king, but not the kind of king we expect.

  68. In fact, what he offers is greater than any of our expectations.

  69. So first, the king has come.

  70. Jesus has been slowly making his way towards Jerusalem.

  71. And as he travelled, so his band of supporters grew.

  72. So if you go back to chapter 10, verse 1.

  73. Chapter 10, verse 1.

  74. Jesus then left that place, that's Capernaum,

  75. and went into the region of Judea and across the Jordan.

  76. So he's making his step slowly towards Jerusalem.

  77. Again, crowds of people came to him.

  78. Now look at verse 46.

  79. Then they came to Jericho, a step closer,

  80. as Jesus and his disciples together with a large crowd were leaving the city.

  81. So people were anticipating or expecting great things.

  82. The crowds began to follow him.

  83. What miracles was he going to do now?

  84. How was he going to overthrow the occupying force of the Romans?

  85. Well, to help us gauge the excitement,

  86. Mark highlights three actions of great significance.

  87. First, Jesus had come to the Mount of Olives.

  88. Look at verse 1 of chapter 11.

  89. As they approached Jerusalem and came to Bethpage and Bethany,

  90. at the Mount of Olives.

  91. You say, what's so interesting about the Mount of Olives?

  92. Well, listen to this from one of the prophets.

  93. The prophet Zechariah.

  94. It's on the screen.

  95. This is what he says.

  96. The Lord will go out and fight against those nations

  97. as he fights in the day of battle.

  98. On that day, his feet will stand on the Mount of Olives,

  99. east of Jerusalem.

  100. Now, Jesus has just arrived, this self-proclaimed king,

  101. and he's come to the Mount of Olives.

  102. Second, Jesus tells his disciples to go and get a colt,

  103. or which could be translated also as a donkey.

  104. Verse 2.

  105. He says to the disciples,

  106. Go to the village ahead of you,

  107. and just as you enter it,

  108. you will find a colt tied there,

  109. which no one has ever ridden.

  110. Untie it and bring it here.

  111. Verse 4.

  112. They went and found a colt outside in the street,

  113. tied at a doorway.

  114. Verse 7.

  115. When they brought the colt to Jesus,

  116. they threw their cloaks over it,

  117. and he sat on it.

  118. Well, you think,

  119. well, what's so interesting about that?

  120. Well, again, listen to the same prophets.

  121. Look at what it says on the screen.

  122. Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion.

  123. Shout, daughter of Jerusalem.

  124. See, your king comes to you,

  125. righteous and having salvation,

  126. gentle and riding on a donkey,

  127. on a colt,

  128. the foal of a donkey.

  129. Do you see what Jesus is beginning to say

  130. to all the crowds of people?

  131. And then there was the shouts of the crowd.

  132. Verse 8.

  133. Many people spread their cloaks on the road,

  134. while others spread branches

  135. they had cut in the fields.

  136. And those who went ahead

  137. and those who followed shouted,

  138. Hosanna!

  139. Which means, save!

  140. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.

  141. Blessed is the coming kingdom

  142. of our father David.

  143. Hosanna!

  144. Salvation!

  145. In the highest!

  146. Now, verse 9,

  147. this Hosanna,

  148. is actually a quote

  149. from Psalm 118.

  150. And if you were to read that psalm,

  151. it's all about being surrounded by an enemy

  152. and looking forward to a king

  153. who's going to save.

  154. Look at what some of that psalm says

  155. on the screen.

  156. Shouts of joy and victory

  157. resound in the tents of the righteous.

  158. The Lord's hand has done mighty things.

  159. O Lord, save us.

  160. O Lord, grant us success.

  161. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.

  162. Now, can you feel the expectation building?

  163. The Mount of Olives.

  164. Jesus riding on a colt.

  165. Shouting, Hosanna!

  166. Save the rescuer!

  167. The long-awaited king

  168. has finally come.

  169. The great deliverer.

  170. The mighty warrior.

  171. All the crowds are gathering around him.

  172. He's ready for battle.

  173. The saving king has come

  174. to overthrow the might of the Romans.

  175. The stage is set.

  176. And look what he does.

  177. Verse 11.

  178. Jesus entered Jerusalem.

  179. If you're going to have a revolution,

  180. it might as well be in the capital

  181. where everybody knows.

  182. Jesus entered Jerusalem

  183. and went to the temple.

  184. He looked around at everything,

  185. but since it was already late,

  186. he went out to Bethany with the twelve.

  187. Sorry, did we miss something there?

  188. Is that it?

  189. Is that it?

  190. He just wanders around the temple.

  191. He says nothing.

  192. He does nothing.

  193. He just walks around.

  194. And then he just heads out of town.

  195. The king has come.

  196. But not as we expect.

  197. You see, we too have our expectations

  198. of Jesus, don't we?

  199. I guarantee if we were just to ask everybody now

  200. what you expect Jesus to do for you,

  201. there'd be a whole list of things.

  202. And like the crowd,

  203. our concern is very usually physical

  204. and it's temporal.

  205. It's all about me in the here and now.

  206. We want Jesus to heal us now.

  207. We want Jesus to give us a better job now.

  208. If Jesus is king,

  209. well then surely he'll listen to my wants

  210. and my demands and do what I say.

  211. Well, Jesus is concerned about the physical.

  212. He is concerned about the temporal.

  213. But he offers us so much more.

  214. So much more.

  215. For Jesus had come to establish a kingdom.

  216. But an eternal kingdom.

  217. A kingdom of peace and justice,

  218. beauty and joy.

  219. Where we live in perfect relationship with God

  220. for all eternity.

  221. And Jesus had come as a warrior king

  222. to fight a battle.

  223. But he came to fight not a physical one,

  224. a spiritual one.

  225. For he came to fight our greatest enemy,

  226. destroying sin and death

  227. and defeating Satan as he would die on a cross

  228. so that we could be forgiven

  229. and welcomed into his kingdom.

  230. The king has come.

  231. But he's not always the king that we expect.

  232. The problem is not that our expectations of Jesus

  233. are too high.

  234. Our expectations of Jesus are too low.

  235. We're focused on the here and the now

  236. when he's offering us something far greater

  237. for all eternity.

  238. What Jesus offers is greater

  239. than we could ever dream or imagine.

  240. So the king has come.

  241. Second, the king has spoken.

  242. Verse 12.

  243. The next day as they were leaving Bethany,

  244. Jesus was hungry.

  245. Didn't have time for his porridge that morning.

  246. Seeing in the distance a fig tree and leaf,

  247. he went to find out if it had any fruit.

  248. When he reached it,

  249. he found nothing but leaves

  250. because it was not the season for figs.

  251. Then he said to the tree,

  252. May no one ever eat fruit from you again.

  253. And his disciples heard him say it.

  254. Now it seems like Jesus got out

  255. on the wrong side of the bed, didn't it?

  256. He's a bit upset.

  257. What did the tree ever do to him?

  258. You're not having fruit anymore.

  259. Well, as we've seen,

  260. every action of Jesus in this event

  261. is loaded with significance.

  262. And what Jesus says to the fig tree,

  263. May no one ever eat fruit from you again,

  264. becomes a visible image.

  265. It's like a mini parable

  266. for what Jesus is about to say

  267. to the temple and its leaders.

  268. You have become fruitless

  269. and I am going to put an end

  270. to your practices.

  271. Look what Jesus does

  272. in verse 15.

  273. It's really radical.

  274. On reaching Jerusalem,

  275. Jesus entered the temple area

  276. and began driving out those

  277. who were buying and selling there.

  278. Instead of starting a revolution,

  279. he begins a demolition.

  280. He overturned the tables

  281. of the money changers

  282. and the benches of those selling doves

  283. and he wouldn't allow anyone

  284. to carry merchandise

  285. through the temple courts.

  286. Now, in our minds here,

  287. we've got to picture

  288. hundreds upon hundreds,

  289. even thousands of people

  290. all coming into this

  291. outer court area of the temple.

  292. It's a bit like a farmer's market

  293. with all kinds of livestock

  294. being sold for sacrifices

  295. and people selling it

  296. and people buying it.

  297. It's noisy.

  298. It's crazy.

  299. And Jesus just bursts

  300. into the middle of it

  301. and starts kicking them out

  302. all over the place.

  303. Pandemonium.

  304. Now, this outer court

  305. where Jesus goes

  306. and starts throwing things about,

  307. was actually designed

  308. to keep certain people out

  309. and only let certain people in.

  310. Foreigners and outsiders.

  311. So if you weren't a Jew,

  312. you weren't allowed past that area.

  313. The only people allowed in

  314. were the Jews who came to buy

  315. an animal for sacrifice

  316. or sell an animal for sacrifice.

  317. In fact,

  318. all around that area

  319. where Jesus was kicking people out

  320. or upsetting all their tables,

  321. there were these signs

  322. that were read

  323. in all kinds of different languages

  324. for all the foreigners

  325. who ever came near.

  326. This is what it said.

  327. No foreigner may enter

  328. within the railing

  329. and enclosure

  330. that surrounded the temple.

  331. Anyone apprehended

  332. shall have himself to blame

  333. for his consequent death.

  334. The temple

  335. was meant to be the place

  336. where people could come

  337. and meet God.

  338. This was the place

  339. where you could come in

  340. and talk and pray to God.

  341. But if you were a foreigner,

  342. if you weren't one of the special people,

  343. then you were shut out

  344. and if you even tried to get in

  345. and you were caught,

  346. you'd be killed.

  347. It begins to explain

  348. why Jesus got

  349. understatement of the year

  350. a little bit upset.

  351. He came to confront it,

  352. to put an end

  353. to all their practices.

  354. Verse 17.

  355. As he taught them,

  356. he said,

  357. is it not written

  358. my house will be called

  359. a house of prayer

  360. for all nations?

  361. for all people?

  362. Rather than welcoming people,

  363. a sign of fruitfulness,

  364. he's saying,

  365. you are barring people,

  366. a sign of being fruitless.

  367. The prophets

  368. had anticipated a time

  369. when all nations,

  370. when all peoples

  371. would be welcomed.

  372. Go back with me

  373. to Isaiah chapter 56.

    Isaiah 56 chapter mention

  374. It's about the middle

  375. of your Bible,

  376. thereabouts.

  377. Isaiah chapter 56.

    Isaiah 56 chapter mention

  378. If somebody's got a page number

  379. using a red Bible,

  380. they could tell me

  381. and I'll shout it out.

  382. Isaiah 56.

  383. 743.

  384. 743.

  385. Look at what was anticipated.

  386. Look what people

  387. were looking forward to.

  388. Isaiah 56.

  389. And we'll pick it up

  390. in verse 3.

  391. Isaiah 56.

  392. Verse 3.

  393. Let no foreigner

  394. who has bound himself

  395. to the Lord say,

  396. the Lord will surely

  397. exclude me

  398. from his people.

  399. Verse 5.

  400. To them,

  401. that is,

  402. the foreigner,

  403. the outsider,

  404. I will give within

  405. my temple

  406. and its walls

  407. a memorial

  408. and a name

  409. better than

  410. sons and daughters.

  411. I will give them

  412. an everlasting name

  413. that will not be cut off.

  414. Verse 7.

  415. These,

  416. these outsiders,

  417. these foreigners,

  418. I will bring

  419. to my holy mountain,

  420. that's to the temple,

  421. and give them joy

  422. in my house

  423. of prayer.

  424. Their burnt offerings

  425. and sacrifices

  426. will be accepted

  427. on my altar,

  428. for my house

  429. will be called

  430. a house of prayer

  431. for all nations.

  432. You see,

  433. God's plan,

  434. his great expansive plan,

  435. was that through

  436. Jesus Christ,

  437. he would make it

  438. possible for all people

  439. to be able

  440. to come to God

  441. and to be part

  442. of his kingdom.

  443. No wonder.

  444. Look back at Mark

    Mark 11:18

  445. chapter 11,

  446. verse 18.

  447. No wonder

  448. the chief priests

  449. and the teachers

  450. of the law

  451. heard this

  452. and began

  453. looking for a way

  454. to kill him.

  455. And soon,

  456. all the crowds

  457. would be on their side too.

  458. One moment,

  459. the hope of the nation,

  460. the next public enemy,

  461. number one.

  462. Why?

  463. Why would people

  464. turn so quickly?

  465. Well,

  466. they wanted a king

  467. who would tell

  468. the people

  469. to get out.

  470. They wanted a king

  471. who was going to

  472. kind of keep

  473. themselves nice

  474. and pure

  475. and get all the foreigners

  476. and the outsiders

  477. away

  478. and make it all

  479. nice and comfortable

  480. again.

  481. But Jesus came

  482. to tell people

  483. that they could

  484. come in,

  485. that they were

  486. welcomed in.

  487. They wanted to

  488. get rid of the outsiders.

  489. Jesus is saying,

  490. I have come

  491. for the outsider.

  492. The king

  493. has spoken,

  494. but not

  495. as we

  496. expect.

  497. Now,

  498. like the chief priests,

  499. I think we too

  500. can play

  501. temple games,

  502. can't we?

  503. We don't think

  504. this much

  505. of a temple,

  506. but we can still

  507. play the game.

  508. We don't like

  509. to say it,

  510. but we can sure

  511. think it.

  512. We don't want

  513. their kind

  514. coming in here.

  515. We can't let

  516. those sorts

  517. of people

  518. be part of

  519. this church,

  520. could we?

  521. But who are we

  522. to put restrictions

  523. on people?

  524. The only way

  525. any of us

  526. can come to God,

  527. the only way

  528. any of us

  529. can enjoy God

  530. and know God

  531. is through

  532. the once

  533. and for all

  534. sacrifice of Jesus.

  535. It's the same

  536. for us all.

  537. When Jesus

  538. barged into

  539. the temple

  540. and started

  541. kicking tables

  542. over and

  543. chucking the

  544. animals all

  545. around the

  546. place,

  547. when he broke

  548. up the place

  549. for buying

  550. and selling

  551. sacrifices,

  552. he was saying

  553. to the people

  554. loud and clear,

  555. I am the

  556. sacrifice

  557. for your

  558. sins.

  559. I am the

  560. way into

  561. God's

  562. kingdom.

  563. You don't

  564. need to do

  565. this.

  566. I am the

  567. one who

  568. will deal

  569. with your

  570. sin once

  571. and for

  572. all.

  573. The way

  574. is now

  575. open for

  576. all to

  577. come,

  578. regardless

  579. of your

  580. nationality

  581. or your

  582. background.

  583. It doesn't

  584. matter what

  585. your race

  586. is or what

  587. your religion

  588. is.

  589. I welcome

  590. all who

  591. will come

  592. to me.

  593. And here's

  594. the challenge.

  595. how will

  596. people ever

  597. know they

  598. are welcomed

  599. if they

  600. don't know

  601. they're

  602. welcomed?

  603. There's no

  604. point in

  605. people saying

  606. oh they're

  607. all welcome.

  608. How does

  609. people know

  610. they are

  611. welcomed into

  612. his kingdom?

  613. Well Jesus

  614. came into

  615. the world,

  616. the saving

  617. king.

  618. He came in

  619. to invite

  620. people,

  621. to tell

  622. people,

  623. to show

  624. people what

  625. the kingdom

  626. was all

  627. about and

  628. to say

  629. that through

  630. me you

  631. can enter.

  632. So we

  633. too must

  634. go into

  635. the world

  636. within our

  637. communities,

  638. within our

  639. families,

  640. around about

  641. us,

  642. to welcome

  643. people to

  644. Jesus.

  645. So the

  646. king has

  647. come,

  648. the king

  649. has spoken,

  650. and third,

  651. the king

  652. has commanded.

  653. Look at

  654. verse 20.

  655. in the

  656. morning,

  657. so he's

  658. kind of

  659. going in

  660. and out

  661. of Jerusalem

  662. in this

  663. passage here,

  664. in the

  665. morning as

  666. they went

  667. along,

  668. they saw

  669. the fig tree

  670. withered from

  671. the roots,

  672. and Peter

  673. remembered and

  674. said to

  675. Jesus,

  676. Rabbi,

  677. look,

  678. the fig tree

  679. you cursed

  680. has withered.

  681. So here

  682. was this

  683. visual reminder

  684. to his

  685. disciples to

  686. tell them

  687. that look,

  688. there is no

  689. longer any

  690. need for a

  691. temple.

  692. temple.

  693. There is no

  694. need for this

  695. religious ritual,

  696. there is no

  697. need for all

  698. these religious

  699. rules anymore.

  700. We don't need

  701. all these

  702. priests wandering

  703. around in their

  704. flowing robes.

  705. It is fruitless.

  706. It will produce

  707. nothing in you

  708. or for you.

  709. It is dead,

  710. it is lifeless,

  711. it gives you

  712. nothing.

  713. Nothing.

  714. Jesus says,

  715. I am the

  716. way to the

  717. kingdom,

  718. I am the

  719. sacrifice for

  720. your sins,

  721. I welcome

  722. all people

  723. who come

  724. to me.

  725. So,

  726. verse 22,

  727. what's the

  728. response?

  729. Have

  730. faith

  731. in God,

  732. Jesus

  733. answered.

  734. If Jesus

  735. is the

  736. king who

  737. has come

  738. to establish

  739. his kingdom,

  740. if Jesus

  741. welcomes in

  742. all people

  743. to come

  744. to him,

  745. then the

  746. only response

  747. is,

  748. have faith

  749. in God.

  750. This is what

  751. the king

  752. commands.

  753. Trust me,

  754. I can do

  755. for you

  756. what nobody

  757. else can do

  758. for you.

  759. Look at

  760. verse 23.

  761. I tell you

  762. the truth,

  763. Jesus says,

  764. if one of

  765. you says

  766. to this

  767. mountain,

  768. maybe it

  769. was the

  770. Mount of

  771. Olives he

  772. was looking

  773. at,

  774. if one of

  775. you says

  776. to this

  777. mountain,

  778. go through

  779. yourself

  780. into the

  781. sea,

  782. and does

  783. not doubt

  784. in his

  785. heart,

  786. but believes

  787. that what

  788. he says

  789. will happen,

  790. it will

  791. be done

  792. for him.

  793. Now,

  794. is Jesus

  795. saying that

  796. we're to

  797. go around

  798. and command

  799. the mountains

  800. and tell

  801. mountains to

  802. jump into

  803. the sea?

  804. I don't

  805. think that's

  806. what he's

  807. saying.

  808. What he is

  809. saying,

  810. or what he's

  811. making clear

  812. is that

  813. he can do

  814. for us

  815. what nobody

  816. else can

  817. do for

  818. us.

  819. We can

  820. go looking

  821. to everyone

  822. else and

  823. everything else

  824. and they'll

  825. offer all

  826. kinds of

  827. things,

  828. but only

  829. Jesus can

  830. offer us

  831. new life,

  832. eternity

  833. with him,

  834. the gift of

  835. his Holy

  836. Spirit within

  837. us,

  838. being welcomed

  839. into his

  840. family,

  841. giving forgiveness,

  842. peace and joy,

  843. transformation of a

  844. whole life.

  845. only Jesus

  846. can do that

  847. for you.

  848. In other

  849. words,

  850. we should

  851. expect from

  852. Jesus what

  853. we can't

  854. expect from

  855. anyone else.

  856. Our problem

  857. is not that

  858. our expectations

  859. are too high,

  860. our expectations

  861. are set too

  862. low.

  863. Jesus offers

  864. to us more

  865. than we could

  866. ever expect

  867. to imagine.

  868. And the way

  869. to express

  870. our faith

  871. is simply

  872. through prayer.

  873. Look at

  874. verse 24.

  875. How do I

  876. show my

  877. faith?

  878. Verse 24.

  879. Therefore I

  880. tell you,

  881. whatever you

  882. ask for in

  883. prayer,

  884. believe that

  885. you have

  886. received it

  887. and it

  888. will be

  889. yours.

  890. Just pause

  891. on that and

  892. think about

  893. that.

  894. God's

  895. eternal

  896. kingdom,

  897. forgiveness

  898. of all

  899. your sins,

  900. welcomed

  901. into his

  902. family,

  903. given the

  904. gift of

  905. the Holy

  906. Spirit,

  907. peace and

  908. joy in

  909. abundance and

  910. grace and

  911. mercy overflowing

  912. to you every

  913. single day,

  914. his family,

  915. the people of

  916. believers around

  917. you,

  918. all of this,

  919. how do we

  920. get it?

  921. Ask in

  922. prayer,

  923. a prayer of

  924. faith.

  925. prayer.

  926. That's all

  927. we have to

  928. do.

  929. Through

  930. prayer we

  931. exercise our

  932. complete

  933. dependence and

  934. place all our

  935. confidence in

  936. Jesus.

  937. We don't have

  938. to do

  939. anything.

  940. Just pray

  941. and ask

  942. and you

  943. will receive

  944. it.

  945. so let me

  946. ask this

  947. question,

  948. have we

  949. obeyed the

  950. king's

  951. command?

  952. Have we

  953. put faith

  954. in Jesus

  955. the king?

  956. Well,

  957. here's the

  958. test for

  959. each one of

  960. us to

  961. find out

  962. if we

  963. have faith

  964. in Jesus.

  965. Here's the

  966. test.

  967. Do I

  968. have faith

  969. in Jesus?

  970. Well,

  971. look at

  972. verse 25.

  973. And when

  974. you stand

  975. praying,

  976. when you're

  977. asking for

  978. the kingdom,

  979. when you're

  980. exercising

  981. faith in

  982. Jesus,

  983. if you

  984. hold anything

  985. against

  986. anyone,

  987. forgive him

  988. so that

  989. your Father

  990. in heaven

  991. may forgive

  992. you your

  993. sins.

  994. Do you

  995. see what

  996. it's saying?

  997. The evidence

  998. of faith

  999. in Jesus

  1000. is

  1001. forgiveness

  1002. of other

  1003. people.

  1004. An

  1005. unforgiving,

  1006. grudge

  1007. holding,

  1008. record

  1009. keeping

  1010. person

  1011. is a

  1012. sign that

  1013. you do

  1014. not have

  1015. faith and

  1016. are not

  1017. in the

  1018. kingdom.

  1019. Look,

  1020. if you

  1021. know the

  1022. forgiveness

  1023. of Jesus,

  1024. if you

  1025. have

  1026. experienced

  1027. the

  1028. forgiveness

  1029. of Jesus

  1030. in your

  1031. life,

  1032. you will

  1033. forgive

  1034. others.

  1035. And

  1036. nobody's

  1037. saying

  1038. it's

  1039. easy,

  1040. but if

  1041. Jesus

  1042. has given

  1043. us this

  1044. welcome

  1045. into his

  1046. family,

  1047. into his

  1048. kingdom,

  1049. if Jesus

  1050. has forgiven

  1051. you,

  1052. then you

  1053. will not

  1054. hold anything

  1055. against another

  1056. person.

  1057. In fact,

  1058. you will do

  1059. all that you

  1060. can to reach

  1061. out to them

  1062. and seek

  1063. reconciliation

  1064. and welcome

  1065. them just

  1066. as Jesus

  1067. has welcomed

  1068. us.

  1069. The

  1070. evidence of

  1071. faith in

  1072. Jesus is

  1073. that we

  1074. are forgiving

  1075. of others,

  1076. each other.

  1077. And then

  1078. lastly,

  1079. expect great

  1080. things.

  1081. The

  1082. King has

  1083. come.

  1084. He has

  1085. come to

  1086. establish his

  1087. eternal

  1088. kingdom.

  1089. The King

  1090. has spoken.

  1091. He opens

  1092. up the

  1093. way for

  1094. all people

  1095. to come

  1096. to God.

  1097. The King

  1098. has commanded.

  1099. He calls

  1100. us to put

  1101. our faith

  1102. and our

  1103. trust in

  1104. him.

  1105. If we

  1106. look to

  1107. Jesus and

  1108. demand the

  1109. King to

  1110. do things

  1111. our way,

  1112. we'll

  1113. always be

  1114. disappointed.

  1115. But if we

  1116. submit to

  1117. his way,

  1118. we will

  1119. discover he

  1120. will do

  1121. more than

  1122. we could

  1123. ever

  1124. expect or

  1125. imagine.

  1126. He is a

  1127. great saving

  1128. King who

  1129. does more

  1130. than we

  1131. could ever

  1132. expect or

  1133. imagine.

  1134. Let's talk

  1135. to him

  1136. right now.

  1137. Let's pray.

  1138. Father, thank

  1139. you so much

  1140. for your

  1141. word.

  1142. Thank you

  1143. for Jesus,

  1144. the great

  1145. King.

  1146. Please help

  1147. us to

  1148. understand

  1149. Jesus as

  1150. you portray

  1151. him and

  1152. as he

  1153. comes to

  1154. us.

  1155. help us

  1156. to have

  1157. right

  1158. expectations

  1159. but help

  1160. us to

  1161. see all

  1162. that he

  1163. has come

  1164. to do

  1165. and to

  1166. give to

  1167. us.

  1168. Thank

  1169. you,

  1170. Jesus,

  1171. that you

  1172. are our

  1173. great

  1174. King.

  1175. Help

  1176. us to

  1177. trust you

  1178. each and

  1179. every day.

  1180. Help

  1181. us to

  1182. follow you

  1183. where you

  1184. go and

  1185. help us

  1186. to live

  1187. for you

  1188. wherever

  1189. we are.

  1190. We pray

  1191. this in

  1192. Jesus'

  1193. name.

  1194. Amen.

  1195. Well, we're

  1196. going to

  1197. sing our

  1198. final song

  1199. in response

  1200. to

  1201. to

  1202. up.

  1203. You

  1204. will

  1205. be

  1206. a
