  1. It's great to be back.

  2. It is, this is a great place.

  3. We had heard good things about it, but now we know they're true.

  4. I think it was Yeats that said, there's no strangers here,

  5. there's just friends you hadn't met.

  6. And I think the truth of that really is in the body of Christ,

  7. that it really is true, that the body of Christ,

  8. that Christ breaks down the barriers between us.

  9. So last week we were talking about, thank you very much, Ralph.

  10. Last week we were talking about this good news about the gospel,

  11. what Jesus has done for us, and how that impacts our view of ourselves.

  12. We looked at how it really gives us perspective,

  13. that it shows us who we are in relation to God,

  14. that we are very small and sinful,

  15. and yes, we are extremely loved by God and secure in Him.

  16. But also how the gospel shows us that our guilt is removed,

  17. it frees us from the power of sin,

  18. that it removes our guilt,

  19. and also that it fills us with the fullness of God.

  20. And that gives us the strength to,

  21. that even the desires for sin start to wither,

  22. because we have full satisfaction in Christ.

  23. And finally, we also saw that the confidence that we have in the future,

  24. that we can trust God because He's proven Himself.

  25. He's proven that His promises are good.

  26. He's proven that He really does want what's best for us,

  27. and is really willing to do what is best for us,

  28. whatever the cost.

  29. So because of the gospel, we have hope for the future.

  30. We're just going to start with the same verse that we,

  31. a few verses that we read at the beginning of last week,

  32. 2 Corinthians, chapter 5.

    2 Corinthians 5 chapter mention

  33. In the Church Bible, it's page 1161.

  34. So 2 Corinthians 5, starting in verse 14.

  35. He says,

  36. For Christ's love compels us,

  37. because we are convinced that one died for all,

  38. and therefore all died.

  39. And He died for all,

  40. that those who live should no longer live for themselves,

  41. but for Him who died and was raised again.

  42. From now on, we know,

  43. from now on, we regard no one from a worldly point of view.

  44. Though we once regarded Christ in this way,

  45. we do so no longer.

  46. Therefore, if anyone is in Christ,

  47. he is a new creation.

  48. The old has gone.

  49. The new has come.

  50. We talked last week how the gospel changes everything.

  51. It really literally changes everything.

  52. And if you look particularly at verse 16,

  53. it says,

  54. From now on, we regard no one from a worldly point of view.

  55. What we want to focus on this week

  56. is how the gospel changes our view of others,

  57. how the gospel changes our relationships with others.

  58. How does it impact the way that we relate to the people around us?

  59. So,

  60. what we'll start with,

  61. maybe recognize some common themes.

  62. What we'll start with is,

  63. what we saw last week is that the gospel gives us a new perspective on ourselves.

  64. It shows us who we are in comparison to God.

  65. And we talked about how the gospel kills our pride.

  66. That there's really just no room for pride in the gospel.

  67. It shows us that we're not the center of the universe,

  68. as much as we like to pretend to be.

  69. That we really are not the ones that are most worthy of even our own love and devotion.

  70. That God is the one that is worthy of that.

  71. That God really is the center of everything.

  72. It shows us that other people, then,

  73. are not rivals to our pretended throne.

  74. Instead of other people being competition,

  75. like,

  76. you know,

  77. if we're all trying to be the center of the universe,

  78. then that's not going to work very well, is it?

  79. We're all going to be bumping up against each other,

  80. all trying to pull everybody else into orbit around us.

  81. And,

  82. we're always going to be pulling and fighting against each other,

  83. if we're all trying to be the center of the universe.

  84. But,

  85. the gospel frees us from that,

  86. because it shows us that instead of other people being rivals,

  87. other people being a threat to us,

  88. it shows us that they are fellow creatures,

  89. made in the image of God,

  90. just like we are.

  91. That he is the center,

  92. and that we all should be relating to him.

  93. Paul says this.

  94. Well,

  95. let me just say,

  96. it affects all kinds of things in our relationships with others.

  97. And,

  98. let me just take a couple of specific examples,

  99. but it's not going to be exhaustive by any means.

  100. But,

  101. maybe the first one we'll look at is,

  102. how does it affect our relationship with people

  103. when they think well of us?

  104. When they admire us?

  105. When they see something that's good?

  106. When they compliment us?

  107. Paul says,

  108. by the grace of God,

  109. I am what I am.

  110. And,

  111. his grace to me was not without effect.

  112. No,

  113. I worked harder than all of them,

  114. yet not I,

  115. but the grace of God that was in me.

  116. So,

  117. basically,

  118. if people notice anything good in us,

  119. it's not like we can really even claim the credit.

  120. Paul says,

  121. by the grace of God,

  122. I am what I am.

  123. Even though he says,

  124. I worked harder than anyone,

  125. and yet not I,

  126. but the grace of God

  127. that was working in me.

  128. So,

  129. that frees us from the burden of trying to impress people.

  130. It frees us from the burden of trying to bring people into our orbit

  131. and make them recognize us

  132. as the center of the universe.

  133. It frees us

  134. not to have to point to ourselves anymore.

  135. Not to have to try to build ourselves up anymore.

  136. It frees us from this charade of trying to convince everyone that we are the main thing,

  137. that we are the greatest.

  138. And that's a huge freedom.

  139. But what about when we make mistakes?

  140. What about when those things that are not pretty about us,

  141. those things that are not nice about us,

  142. come out,

  143. and people see them,

  144. and they criticize us?

  145. I mean, we can't do the same thing then.

  146. We can't say,

  147. deflect the credit to God then.

  148. We have to own that.

  149. But once again,

  150. what we see is that the gospel,

  151. it kills our pride.

  152. The gospel proclaims to everyone,

  153. from the rooftops,

  154. quite loudly,

  155. if we claim the gospel

  156. in our own lives,

  157. what we're claiming is

  158. that we are so sinful,

  159. that we are so,

  160. we were so wrong,

  161. that what it took to forgive us

  162. was the death of Jesus Christ.

  163. This is what we're claiming as Christians.

  164. We're claiming that

  165. our sin was so bad

  166. and so serious

  167. that Jesus had to die

  168. in order to forgive us.

  169. And once we've admitted that,

  170. then it shouldn't be,

  171. we shouldn't be surprised

  172. by the sin in our lives.

  173. We shouldn't be surprised

  174. when it shows up.

  175. We've already admitted

  176. that we're sinners.

  177. We've already admitted

  178. that it took the death of Christ

  179. to forgive us.

  180. So that means that

  181. if anyone is criticizing us,

  182. that means that if anyone tells us

  183. how bad we are,

  184. we don't have to disagree.

  185. We don't have to defend ourselves.

  186. In fact,

  187. we can agree wholeheartedly.

  188. We can even,

  189. I mean,

  190. if somebody wants to tell us

  191. how rotten we are,

  192. we can tell them,

  193. look,

  194. you don't even know

  195. the half of it.

  196. I'm much, much, much worse

  197. than you think I am.

  198. I'm much worse

  199. than I think I am.

  200. But that's a freeing thing

  201. because it frees us

  202. from having to actually

  203. defend ourselves

  204. or from having to pretend

  205. to be something

  206. that we're not.

  207. Paul said to Timothy,

  208. he said,

  209. this is a trustworthy saying

  210. that deserves full acceptance.

  211. Christ Jesus came into the world

  212. to save sinners

  213. of whom I am the worst.

  214. He didn't beat around the bush.

  215. He just said,

  216. I'm the worst.

  217. My sin is terrible.

  218. He puts it plainly out there.

  219. And it sounds,

  220. it sounds awful

  221. to say something like that,

  222. but it's actually

  223. wonderfully freeing.

  224. And it gives glory to God

  225. because he's the one

  226. that's forgiving us.

  227. He's the one

  228. that's changing us.

  229. Now I have lots of practice

  230. defending myself

  231. when people come at me

  232. with criticisms.

  233. I've told my wife

  234. many, many times

  235. why she was so wrong

  236. about the things

  237. that she was saying

  238. that I had done wrong.

  239. But I tell you,

  240. we need to realize

  241. that the gospel

  242. means that my sin

  243. is already on display.

  244. And that when my sin

  245. is on display,

  246. God's grace and mercy

  247. is on display as well.

  248. We don't have to try to hide.

  249. We don't have to try

  250. to cover it up.

  251. We need to rest

  252. in the forgiveness

  253. that we've received

  254. from Christ.

  255. So we don't have to pretend.

  256. We don't have to defend.

  257. Now I realize

  258. that if we're wrongly accused

  259. of something

  260. that's slightly different.

  261. But still,

  262. even when people

  263. are wrongly accusing us

  264. of things,

  265. well now oftentimes

  266. there's more truth

  267. in their accusations

  268. than we like to admit.

  269. But even if it's wrong,

  270. even if the accusation

  271. isn't even true at all,

  272. we can still say

  273. that no matter what

  274. people could bring against us,

  275. no matter what the accusation

  276. they could come at us with,

  277. the truth of our rebellion

  278. against God

  279. and the seriousness of that

  280. and what it caused Christ

  281. to forgive us

  282. is actually worse

  283. than anything

  284. people could accuse us of.

  285. And yes,

  286. his forgiveness

  287. is bigger.

  288. Now it's not that

  289. we resign ourselves

  290. and we just say to people,

  291. well, yeah,

  292. I'm a sinner,

  293. that's it,

  294. you're going to have to deal with it.

  295. That's the way it is, buddy.

  296. It's not that we resign ourselves

  297. to just live in sin.

  298. The Bible doesn't present that at all.

  299. In fact,

  300. what the Bible says

  301. is that if we confess our sins,

  302. he is faithful to forgive us,

  303. but it doesn't stop there.

  304. It says,

  305. and cleanse us

  306. from all unrighteousness.

  307. So we can come to people,

  308. when they come to us

  309. and say,

  310. you're wrong,

  311. you've done this wrong,

  312. you've failed here

  313. and here and here,

  314. we can say yes,

  315. we can own that,

  316. we can say,

  317. yes,

  318. that's a problem,

  319. but I have hope,

  320. not because I'm going to try harder,

  321. I have hope

  322. because the blood of Jesus

  323. forgives me

  324. and the power of Jesus

  325. cleanses me

  326. from all unrighteousness.

  327. My hope is not

  328. in turning over a new leaf

  329. and trying again

  330. and trying to do it better.

  331. My hope is the power of Christ

  332. to change me

  333. and to cleanse me

  334. from all unrighteousness.

  335. And we need to share that

  336. with other people

  337. when they come to us

  338. with criticism.

  339. We can own

  340. the things that we've done

  341. and yet we can own them

  342. with hope

  343. because the gospel

  344. does something

  345. that nothing else can do.

  346. The gospel

  347. kills our pride

  348. and yet at the same time

  349. gives us

  350. supreme confidence.

  351. Now usually

  352. we put those two things together.

  353. Usually if somebody

  354. is very confident

  355. that's because

  356. they're very proud

  357. of their own abilities.

  358. But the gospel

  359. separates those things

  360. in a way

  361. nothing else can.

  362. The gospel

  363. completely kills,

  364. destroys

  365. any hope

  366. of our having pride

  367. in ourselves

  368. because it shows us

  369. who we really are.

  370. And yet at the same time

  371. the gospel

  372. gives us

  373. the supreme confidence

  374. that is greater

  375. than any confidence

  376. we could have

  377. in anything else

  378. because it's in Christ.

  379. we have a secure

  380. hope in Christ

  381. that's better

  382. than anything

  383. we could have

  384. in ourselves.

  385. There's no condemnation

  386. from God

  387. so why would we need

  388. to fear

  389. condemnation from people?

  390. Our security

  391. as God's children

  392. gives us confidence

  393. to live

  394. without needing

  395. to seek the approval

  396. of other people.

  397. I mean,

  398. everybody wants approval.

  399. Most of us seek it

  400. from other people.

  401. But when we have

  402. the approval

  403. of our creator

  404. secure

  405. in Christ

  406. we're free

  407. from that

  408. never-ending treadmill

  409. of trying to win

  410. people's approval

  411. trying to keep

  412. people's approval

  413. which just

  414. just goes on

  415. and on and on.

  416. But when we have

  417. our creator's approval

  418. secure

  419. then that

  420. puts an end to that.

  421. We don't need

  422. people's approval

  423. so much anymore.

  424. So the gospel

  425. gives us

  426. perspective.

  427. It shows us

  428. that the praises

  429. and criticisms

  430. it shows us

  431. that the approval

  432. or disapproval

  433. of other people

  434. are not ultimate.

  435. It shows us

  436. that we don't have

  437. to pretend

  438. to be something

  439. that we're not.

  440. We don't have

  441. to defend ourselves.

  442. We can own our sin

  443. and yet we don't

  444. have to try

  445. to hide it

  446. or anything

  447. because it's

  448. covered in Christ.

  449. And we have

  450. the power

  451. to change

  452. because we have

  453. of him as well.

  454. So the gospel

  455. shows us

  456. that God's

  457. perspective

  458. really is what

  459. matters

  460. and that God's

  461. perspective on us

  462. is that he's

  463. loved us so much

  464. that he's been

  465. willing to die

  466. for us

  467. to give us

  468. life

  469. to give us

  470. new life

  471. in him.

  472. He's loved us

  473. beyond anything

  474. that we can imagine.

  475. So really

  476. it's not just

  477. perspective

  478. that the gospel

  479. gives us now

  480. it's this huge

  481. amount of freedom

  482. as well

  483. because all of a sudden

  484. we don't need

  485. people the way

  486. that we used to.

  487. We talked about

  488. we don't need

  489. their approval

  490. so much.

  491. We've looked to

  492. people to fill

  493. our need

  494. for approval

  495. that we crave

  496. but God's approval

  497. makes the approval

  498. of people

  499. seem pretty small.

  500. We've looked to

  501. people

  502. to fill us

  503. with the love

  504. that we long

  505. for

  506. and yet God

  507. gives us this

  508. showers us

  509. just dumps

  510. this huge

  511. amount of love

  512. that is just

  513. unimaginable

  514. unconditional

  515. amazing love

  516. and he pours

  517. it on us

  518. freely.

  519. It makes

  520. any kind

  521. of human

  522. love

  523. seem pretty

  524. pale in comparison.

  525. We've looked

  526. to people

  527. to give us

  528. an identity.

  529. We've looked

  530. to people

  531. to recognize

  532. that we're

  533. something great.

  534. We've looked

  535. to people

  536. to recognize

  537. that our

  538. accomplishments

  539. are something

  540. significant

  541. but when

  542. the God

  543. of the universe

  544. is willing

  545. to give

  546. his life

  547. to save

  548. us

  549. then our

  550. significance

  551. is not

  552. in question

  553. anymore.

  554. And our

  555. identity

  556. as his

  557. children

  558. is secure

  559. and people

  560. can't change

  561. that.

  562. So we

  563. don't need

  564. people

  565. the way

  566. that we

  567. used to

  568. need people.

  569. And once

  570. again I think

  571. here's the

  572. unique ability

  573. of the gospel

  574. to separate

  575. things that

  576. the world

  577. can't separate.

  578. Because

  579. we already

  580. saw how the

  581. gospel can

  582. kill pride

  583. on the one

  584. hand while

  585. at the same

  586. time giving

  587. us the

  588. supreme

  589. confidence

  590. which usually

  591. you couldn't

  592. separate.

  593. But the

  594. gospel also

  595. does this.

  596. It frees

  597. us from

  598. needing

  599. people

  600. while at

  601. the same

  602. time giving

  603. us the

  604. new ability

  605. to love

  606. them like

  607. we've never

  608. loved them

  609. before.

  610. Now in

  611. the world

  612. those things

  613. usually go

  614. together.

  615. If you listen

  616. to love songs

  617. and things

  618. a lot of

  619. times it's

  620. you know

  621. I need you

  622. so much

  623. I can't

  624. live without

  625. you.

  626. A lot

  627. of love

  628. is love

  629. of necessity.

  630. Basically

  631. I feel like

  632. I really

  633. need you

  634. so you

  635. fill that

  636. need so

  637. I love

  638. you.

  639. But the

  640. gospel

  641. completely

  642. changes that.

  643. That kind

  644. of love

  645. when it

  646. comes down

  647. to it

  648. if you

  649. love somebody

  650. because they're

  651. filling the

  652. empty places

  653. in you

  654. then that

  655. kind of

  656. love is

  657. ultimately

  658. selfish.

  659. Because it's

  660. really about

  661. the empty

  662. places in

  663. me.

  664. It's not

  665. about you.

  666. And if

  667. you're not

  668. filling the

  669. empty places

  670. in me like

  671. I expected

  672. you to

  673. well there's

  674. a whole lot

  675. of love

  676. songs about

  677. that too.

  678. Those are

  679. the sad

  680. kind.

  681. The breakup

  682. ones.

  683. But the

  684. gospel transforms

  685. that whole

  686. dynamic.

  687. Because what

  688. it does is

  689. it fills

  690. our emptiness

  691. with God's

  692. love.

  693. It fills

  694. us so

  695. much that

  696. David can

  697. say you

  698. anoint my

  699. head with

  700. oil my

  701. cup

  702. overflows.

  703. It fills

  704. us so

  705. much that

  706. it fills

  707. us to

  708. overflowing.

  709. So this

  710. security that

  711. we have in

  712. God means

  713. that we

  714. don't have

  715. to seek

  716. our security

  717. in other

  718. people.

  719. We don't

  720. have to

  721. seek,

  722. try to get

  723. from other

  724. people the

  725. things to

  726. fill us.

  727. But that

  728. doesn't mean

  729. that we

  730. don't love

  731. them.

  732. In fact

  733. what it

  734. means is

  735. quite the

  736. opposite.

  737. Because it

  738. actually gives

  739. us the

  740. freedom to

  741. love others

  742. without needing

  743. to put a

  744. list of

  745. conditions on

  746. what they

  747. need to

  748. do for

  749. us.

  750. We're free

  751. to love

  752. others without

  753. needing them

  754. to fill us

  755. up at the

  756. same time.

  757. In other

  758. words,

  759. basically,

  760. we are free

  761. to love

  762. others the

  763. way Christ

  764. loved us.

  765. Because when

  766. he loved us,

  767. it certainly

  768. wasn't because

  769. we could give

  770. something back

  771. to him.

  772. Ephesians 5

  773. says,

  774. follow God's

  775. example,

  776. therefore,

  777. as dearly

  778. loved children.

  779. Walk in the

  780. way of love,

  781. just as Christ

  782. loved us and

  783. gave himself up

  784. for us as a

  785. fragrant offering

  786. and sacrifice

  787. to God.

  788. He gave out

  789. of his

  790. fullness to

  791. people that

  792. were completely

  793. empty,

  794. who had

  795. nothing to

  796. give in

  797. return.

  798. And now,

  799. if we are

  800. filled with

  801. his fullness,

  802. we can give

  803. to others out

  804. of his

  805. fullness,

  806. not out of

  807. our own,

  808. but out of

  809. his fullness

  810. as well.

  811. I mean,

  812. Jesus told us

  813. to love our

  814. enemies.

  815. Now,

  816. that command

  817. doesn't even

  818. make sense

  819. unless you

  820. see it in

  821. this context.

  822. Because the

  823. way Christ

  824. loved us

  825. was that he

  826. loved even

  827. when we were

  828. his enemies.

  829. Enemies don't

  830. have anything

  831. to give us

  832. except pain

  833. and heartache,

  834. really.

  835. I mean,

  836. that's what we

  837. expect from

  838. enemies.

  839. And yet,

  840. God gave

  841. out of his

  842. fullness even

  843. while we were

  844. his enemies.

  845. So,

  846. now we are

  847. free to

  848. love others

  849. as well

  850. without needing

  851. a return

  852. on our

  853. investment.

  854. So,

  855. the gospel

  856. gives us

  857. perspective.

  858. It shows us

  859. who we are

  860. and it shows

  861. us that we

  862. don't have to

  863. hide,

  864. that we

  865. don't have

  866. to pretend,

  867. we don't have

  868. to pretend

  869. to be something

  870. that we're not,

  871. we don't have

  872. to defend

  873. ourselves even.

  874. we don't have

  875. to try to

  876. win people's

  877. approval

  878. because God

  879. already loves

  880. us.

  881. He's already

  882. paid the price

  883. for our sin

  884. and he's

  885. given us

  886. the strength

  887. to follow

  888. him.

  889. And the

  890. gospel frees

  891. us to love

  892. other people

  893. freely out of

  894. the overflow

  895. of what God

  896. has given

  897. us.

  898. But I think

  899. there's a bit

  900. more.

  901. Last week we

  902. talked about

  903. the hope

  904. that we have

  905. in what

  906. God has

  907. done that

  908. it gives us

  909. hope for the

  910. future as well.

  911. and that

  912. hope affects

  913. the way

  914. that we

  915. relate to

  916. others as

  917. well.

  918. If you read

  919. through Romans

  920. you see

  921. Paul spend

  922. chapter after

  923. chapter after

  924. chapter developing

  925. the gospel.

  926. And what

  927. exactly is the

  928. gospel?

  929. That we're all

  930. guilty before

  931. God but

  932. that God

  933. has given

  934. Christ and

  935. that he's

  936. paid for

  937. our sin and

  938. that he's

  939. provided a way

  940. to come back

  941. and to be

  942. his children.

  943. And Romans

    Romans 8 chapter mention

  944. chapter 8 is

  945. kind of the

  946. climax of all

  947. of this.

  948. And it's full

  949. of amazing

  950. things.

  951. That we're

  952. adopted into

  953. God's family

  954. that there's

  955. no condemnation

  956. for those who

  957. are in Christ.

  958. He talks

  959. about, you

  960. know,

  961. just,

  962. he just,

  963. it's full,

  964. that there's

  965. nothing that can

  966. separate us

  967. from the love

  968. of God.

  969. Do you know

  970. this chapter,

  971. Romans 8,

  972. is one of the

  973. most popular

  974. because it's

  975. so full of

  976. just these

  977. amazing things

  978. that the

  979. gospel,

  980. the promise

  981. that the

  982. gospel holds

  983. for us.

  984. So then,

  985. what does

  986. Paul say

  987. directly after

  988. Romans chapter

    Romans 8 chapter mention

  989. 8?

  990. The first

  991. verse of

  992. Romans chapter

    Romans 9 chapter mention

  993. 9,

  994. the first

  995. two verses,

  996. he says,

  997. I speak the

  998. truth in

  999. Christ,

  1000. I am not

  1001. lying,

  1002. my conscience

  1003. confirms it

  1004. through the

  1005. Holy Spirit,

  1006. I have great

  1007. sorrow and

  1008. unceasing

  1009. anguish in

  1010. my heart.

  1011. What?

  1012. I mean,

  1013. he's just

  1014. said,

  1015. like some of

  1016. the most

  1017. amazing

  1018. truth,

  1019. that there's

  1020. no condemnation

  1021. in Christ,

  1022. that we're

  1023. adopted into

  1024. Christ,

  1025. into God's

  1026. family,

  1027. that nothing

  1028. can separate

  1029. us from

  1030. the love

  1031. of Christ.

  1032. And now

  1033. he's saying

  1034. there's great

  1035. sorrow and

  1036. unceasing

  1037. anguish in

  1038. my heart,

  1039. like how

  1040. does this

  1041. follow?

  1042. But he

  1043. explains why.

  1044. He explains

  1045. why in

  1046. verse 3.

  1047. He says,

  1048. for I wish

  1049. that I

  1050. myself were

  1051. cursed and

  1052. cut off from

  1053. Christ for

  1054. the sake of

  1055. my people,

  1056. those of

  1057. my own

  1058. race.

  1059. The reason

  1060. he's upset,

  1061. the reason

  1062. that he has

  1063. sorrow,

  1064. is because he

  1065. sees the

  1066. people around

  1067. him.

  1068. He sees that

  1069. they don't

  1070. have the

  1071. same hope

  1072. that he

  1073. has.

  1074. He's just

  1075. been dwelling

  1076. on how

  1077. amazing,

  1078. how wonderful

  1079. the gospel

  1080. is in his

  1081. life,

  1082. in those who

  1083. believe,

  1084. and the great

  1085. promise that

  1086. it has for

  1087. us,

  1088. and this

  1089. awesome

  1090. security that

  1091. it gives

  1092. us.

  1093. And what

  1094. it leads

  1095. him to

  1096. is to

  1097. say,

  1098. I have

  1099. sorrow and

  1100. unceasing

  1101. anguish.

  1102. Yes,

  1103. there's great

  1104. joy in

  1105. the gospel,

  1106. and yet at

  1107. the same

  1108. time,

  1109. he has this

  1110. sorrow in

  1111. his heart

  1112. that not

  1113. everyone is

  1114. experiencing

  1115. these same

  1116. benefits that

  1117. he is.

  1118. So,

  1119. it caused

  1120. him constant

  1121. grief,

  1122. and the

  1123. more he

  1124. dwelt on

  1125. the gospel

  1126. in his

  1127. own life,

  1128. the greatness

  1129. of it,

  1130. the more

  1131. he wanted

  1132. other people

  1133. to experience

  1134. it as well.

  1135. In other

  1136. words,

  1137. really,

  1138. the hope

  1139. that we

  1140. have in

  1141. the gospel

  1142. is the

  1143. foundation

  1144. of evangelism,

  1145. that we

  1146. want other

  1147. people to

  1148. experience that,

  1149. whether they

  1150. are here,

  1151. whether they're

  1152. in Kosovo,

  1153. whether they're

  1154. in Derby,

  1155. or wherever

  1156. they are,

  1157. we want

  1158. other people

  1159. to see

  1160. Christ for

  1161. who he really

  1162. is,

  1163. and to

  1164. experience the

  1165. hope that we

  1166. have in

  1167. him.

  1168. And it

  1169. also,

  1170. you know,

  1171. the gospel

  1172. gives us

  1173. hope that

  1174. no matter

  1175. who we're

  1176. talking to,

  1177. that no

  1178. matter where

  1179. we go,

  1180. the gospel

  1181. can reach

  1182. those people.

  1183. And no

  1184. one is

  1185. beyond the

  1186. reach of

  1187. God's mercy

  1188. because of

  1189. the greatness

  1190. of what

  1191. Christ has

  1192. done.

  1193. No one

  1194. is actually

  1195. beyond the

  1196. reach,

  1197. and that we

  1198. can never

  1199. give up on

  1200. anyone,

  1201. but we can

  1202. rest in the

  1203. fact that

  1204. the gospel

  1205. is not just

  1206. words that

  1207. we say,

  1208. but the

  1209. Bible says

  1210. it's the

  1211. power of

  1212. God for

  1213. salvation to

  1214. all who

  1215. believe.

  1216. And I

  1217. think Paul

  1218. himself is

  1219. a great

  1220. example that

  1221. the gospel

  1222. has no limits

  1223. on who,

  1224. there's no

  1225. limits on who

  1226. can be saved.

  1227. Paul himself

  1228. had done

  1229. horrible things

  1230. persecuting

  1231. Christians,

  1232. and yet God

  1233. saved him.

  1234. We never

  1235. give up hope

  1236. on anyone

  1237. because the

  1238. gospel is the

  1239. power of God

  1240. for salvation.

  1241. It's not just

  1242. the power of

  1243. God for salvation

  1244. for others.

  1245. It's the

  1246. power of God

  1247. that is at

  1248. work in us,

  1249. in our

  1250. salvation,

  1251. constantly

  1252. making us

  1253. more and

  1254. more in

  1255. our day-to-day

  1256. life like

  1257. Christ.

  1258. Every attitude,

  1259. every decision,

  1260. every interaction

  1261. with others,

  1262. everything that

  1263. we are,

  1264. everything that

  1265. we do,

  1266. everything is

  1267. impacted by

  1268. the gospel.

  1269. Everything

  1270. should be

  1271. founded on

  1272. the gospel.

  1273. people.

  1274. And so

  1275. what I'd

  1276. really like

  1277. to encourage

  1278. you,

  1279. like there's

  1280. a lot of

  1281. other areas

  1282. that we

  1283. could have

  1284. gone into

  1285. and how

  1286. the gospel

  1287. impacts our

  1288. relationship with

  1289. others.

  1290. I mean,

  1291. we could have

  1292. talked about

  1293. how the gospel

  1294. breaks down

  1295. barriers within

  1296. the body of

  1297. Christ,

  1298. that all the

  1299. things that

  1300. used to divide

  1301. us,

  1302. you know,

  1303. Paul talks

  1304. about there's

  1305. neither Jew

  1306. nor Gentile,

  1307. slave nor free,

  1308. male nor female,

  1309. they're all one

  1310. in Christ,

  1311. how the gospel

  1312. brings us

  1313. together and

  1314. unites us.

  1315. Or we could

  1316. have talked

  1317. about how

  1318. the gospel

  1319. gives us

  1320. the ability

  1321. to forgive

  1322. others.

  1323. The gospel

  1324. has implications

  1325. for everything.

  1326. But what I

  1327. really encourage

  1328. you to do

  1329. is just to

  1330. constantly,

  1331. daily,

  1332. remind yourself

  1333. of what

  1334. Christ has

  1335. done for us

  1336. and whatever

  1337. we're doing

  1338. and whoever

  1339. we're relating

  1340. to,

  1341. that we should

  1342. relate to them

  1343. on the foundation

  1344. of the gospel

  1345. and when we

  1346. think about

  1347. ourselves,

  1348. we should

  1349. think about

  1350. ourselves

  1351. on the

  1352. foundation

  1353. of the gospel

  1354. and when we

  1355. do things

  1356. and when we

  1357. think things,

  1358. whatever it is,

  1359. everything should

  1360. be built

  1361. on the foundation

  1362. of what Christ

  1363. has done for us,

  1364. of who he is

  1365. and what he's

  1366. done on the cross

  1367. and what the

  1368. gospel means

  1369. in our lives.

  1370. So I would just

  1371. encourage you,

  1372. please,

  1373. you know,

  1374. take time

  1375. and not just,

  1376. I'm not going to

  1377. just say this week,

  1378. but every day

  1379. we constantly need

  1380. to be reminded

  1381. of what Jesus

  1382. has done for us

  1383. and we need

  1384. to build our lives

  1385. on that foundation

  1386. and that will

  1387. impact how we

  1388. view ourselves

  1389. but it will

  1390. also impact

  1391. how we relate

  1392. to others

  1393. and how we

  1394. do everything.

  1395. So that's

  1396. what I want

  1397. to leave you

  1398. with today.

  1399. Thank you.

  1400. Thank you.

  1401. Thank you.

  1402. Thank you.
