  1. I'm stunned, shocked. You're all sitting down within about 15 seconds. It normally takes

  2. about 15 minutes. I don't know what happened. I don't know what to do or say. I'm going

  3. to ask Chris to come up. She's going to read for us from God's Word. So thanks, Chris.

  4. Two readings this morning. The first one is from Matthew chapter 6, beginning at verse

    Matthew 6 chapter mention

  5. 19, and that's on page 971 of the Church Bible. It's Matthew chapter 6, beginning at verse

    Matthew 6 chapter mention

  6. 19. Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth where moth and rust destroy and where

  7. thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven where moth and

  8. rust do not destroy and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure

  9. is, there your heart will be also.

  10. The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are good, your whole body will be full

  11. of light. But if your eyes are bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the

  12. light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness? No one can serve two masters.

  13. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise

  14. the other. You cannot serve both God and money. And the second reading is taken from 1 John

    1 John 2:15–17

  15. chapter 2, verses 15 to 17, and that's on page 1226 of the Church Bible. That's 1 John

    1 John 2 chapter mention

  16. chapter 2, beginning at verse 15.

  17. Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father

  18. is not in him. For everything in the world, the cravings of sinful man, the lust of his eyes,

  19. and the boasting of what he has and does, comes not from the Father, but from the world.

  20. The world and its desires pass away, but the man who does the will of God lives forever.

  21. Thanks very much, Christine, for that. So keep your Bibles open there at that section in 1 John

    1 John 2 chapter mention

  22. chapter 2. We have a small section, but there's a lot that's contained in it, so we're just

  23. going to look at three verses this morning. And all this is part of a wider series. Just

  24. as I say all of this, if you wouldn't mind handing out the pens and the...

  25. So there's a piece of paper for you to take notes on and a pen. If you'd like a pen, just

  26. keep your hand up and one can be given to you. So this is all part of our series on confident

  27. fellowship. Fellowship is simply our relationship and our partnership with God the Father and

  28. God the Son. So that's the big theme and the big heading of this series. And this morning

  29. we're looking at protecting our fellowship with God from 1 John chapter 2 verses 15 to 27.

    1 John 2:15–27

  30. Let's pray together.

  31. Father, for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. Father, please would you

  32. help us this morning to see where the treasure that we set our heart is. And to do all things

  33. possible to make sure that the Lord Jesus Christ is our ultimate treasure. That he would consume

  34. consume us. That we would gaze at his beauty, at his greatness. That we would love the treasure

  35. of the Lord Jesus. We pray that we would do everything possible to make you centre of our lives.

  36. Lord Jesus Christ. And therefore we ask that you would use the teaching of your word to bring that about. May your Holy Spirit

  37. bring us to a place where we can say that you are our all and our everything. We ask this in Jesus' name. Amen.

  38. Well, Fort Knox is perhaps the most secure building in the world. To break in, you would have to scale four fences,

  39. two of which are electrified, and then sneak past the armed guards lining the perimeter.

  40. If you've gone that far, you then have to get through the granite walls, which are four foot thick, and reinforced with 750 tons of steel.

  41. Once you've managed to get inside, you have to find your way through a maze of locked doors, armed guards, and then open the 22 tonne vault door.

  42. That's quite simple. All you have to do is bring with you all the members of staff who each have a piece of the code and get them to key it in in the right order.

  43. And then once you've got inside and robbed it, all you have to do is get past the 30,000 troops that are now alerted and stationed outside.

  44. Why so much security at Fort Knox?

  45. Well, inside is 5,000 tons of gold bullion, which is worth about $380 billion.

  46. And that's just the gold.

  47. It's treasure worth guarding.

  48. Now, we have a treasure that is worth guarding and protecting.

  49. That treasure we've been learning is fellowship with God.

  50. Remember back in chapter 1, verse 3, it tells us there that we have been invited into fellowship with God.

  51. Through faith, we get to share in and participate in the love that the Father has for the Son and that the Son has for the Father.

  52. We get to join in and experience that love.

  53. And it's in this fellowship that our joy is made complete.

  54. This is where we are fulfilled and satisfied in this fellowship with the Father.

  55. So the big message of the text this morning from chapter 2, verses 15 to 17 is this.

  56. Secure the treasure.

  57. Protect your fellowship with God.

  58. But what are we protecting our fellowship from?

  59. Well, the threat comes from the world.

  60. Look at verse 15.

  61. He says, it's a command.

  62. Do not love the world or anything in the world.

  63. Now, the world in this context is not the material world.

  64. It's not the created planet all around us.

  65. The material world, we're told, is good.

  66. It's like God's playground that has been given to his children, people like you and me, to enjoy.

  67. So things like music and work and creativity and food and friendships,

  68. all of these are good gifts from God that is meant for us for our pleasure and to enjoy.

  69. But in verse 15, the world we are not to love is the world that stands opposed to God.

  70. So the world in this context is the pattern of behaviour.

  71. It's a particular outlook on life that rejects God's ways.

  72. Let me show you.

  73. There's a very helpful verse in 1 John chapter 5 verse 19.

    1 John 5:19

  74. Just turn to that.

  75. 1 John chapter 5 verse 19.

    1 John 5:19

  76. I think this will help us get a grip on what we mean by the world.

  77. 1 John 5 verse 19.

    1 John 5:19

  78. It says,

  79. You see, it's as if the world has declared war on God with the evil one, the devil himself leading the charge

  80. and all the people kind of following up behind.

  81. And it's the world is making their stand against God, saying,

  82. We oppose you.

  83. We don't want you.

  84. And they oppose God by ignoring him and disobeying him.

  85. That is what is meant by the world under the control of the evil one.

  86. Back to verse 15.

  87. So when he is encouraging us, or commanding us rather,

  88. Do not love the world or anything in the world.

  89. He is saying, do not love the world's values and attitudes because they are in opposition to God.

  90. In other words, do not love each other's sinful behaviours.

  91. Do not love them because the world is in opposition to God.

  92. Now the reason, and this is important,

  93. the reason we are not to love the world is, yes, it's in opposition to God,

  94. but because the world robs us of our joy.

  95. It robs us of our joy.

  96. Look at verse 15 again.

  97. Do not love the world or anything in the world.

  98. Why?

  99. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in them.

  100. You see, you simply cannot enjoy the love of the Father and at the same time love the world.

  101. You can't mix and match.

  102. They don't go together.

  103. You can't enjoy the love of the Father and at the same time love the world.

  104. It's a little bit like having an affair.

  105. If I came home with a young lady on my arm and I sat down in my living room to watch television together

  106. and Kirsty walks in and says,

  107. Who's this?

  108. Oh, don't worry.

  109. She's just my new girlfriend.

  110. No.

  111. It can't work.

  112. You either love one or you love the other.

  113. To enjoy the love of your spouse, to experience that deep, intimate relationship,

  114. you cannot give your love to another.

  115. And that's what he's saying here with our love with the Father.

  116. To love the world is opening up your heart to a thief that is going to come in and rob us of that deep,

  117. personal and relational joy that we have with the Father.

  118. So we need to be very careful of where we focus our loves.

  119. Because wherever we focus our loves, that's where our treasure will be.

  120. And love for the world will rob us of our joy.

  121. Love for the world will rob us of our joy.

  122. So let's have a look at what this love of the world looks like.

  123. The danger is, every one of us in this room has the capacity to love the world.

  124. Instead of protecting the love with the Father,

  125. instead of enjoying that rich relationship with Him

  126. and making sure we do all things possible to enjoy that relationship,

  127. we begin to look to the world for our pleasure and our joy.

  128. So look at verse 16.

  129. For everything in the world,

  130. the cravings of sinful man,

  131. the lust of his eyes,

  132. and the boasting of what he has and does

  133. comes not from the Father,

  134. but from the world.

  135. So what we're going to do now is

  136. we're going to look at the three ways in which

  137. we can love the world that are listed here in verse 16.

  138. Now we're going to take a bit of time to go through it

  139. and look at each one individually.

  140. And it's going to be quite heart-searching for us.

  141. So let's look at the three ways we love the world.

  142. Again, let's read the beginning of verse 16.

  143. Number one.

  144. For everything in the world,

  145. The Cravings of Sinful Man.

  146. You know what it's like to be sitting down watching the TV.

  147. I'm sure you all do that.

  148. And all of a sudden,

  149. as you're watching your favourite programme,

  150. you have this sudden craving for chocolate.

  151. Or is it just me?

  152. You put it off for a while,

  153. but the desire for that rich, smooth, galaxy chocolate,

  154. or whatever your favourite bar is,

  155. consumes you so much

  156. that you can't help but to get up out of your seat

  157. and go to the cupboard or the fridge

  158. and get that chocolate.

  159. And it's never just a bite, is it?

  160. You scoff the whole lot.

  161. You see, craving something means

  162. you have to have it.

  163. It consumes you.

  164. It masters you.

  165. Rather than you being able to control the desire,

  166. the desire controls you.

  167. So, shaped by the values of the world

  168. and driven by our sinful hearts,

  169. we crave material wealth.

  170. We crave sexual gratification.

  171. We crave success.

  172. We crave the perfect body.

  173. We crave...

  174. You fill in the blank.

  175. What is it that you crave?

  176. What is it that I crave the most?

  177. We have to have it.

  178. Because the world says

  179. you will not be satisfied or fulfilled

  180. without it.

  181. So, we crave it.

  182. Now, that doesn't mean to say

  183. any of these things that we crave

  184. are necessarily wrong.

  185. The problem is

  186. the attitudes to them

  187. have become distorted.

  188. We are controlled

  189. and mastered by them.

  190. You see, what we crave

  191. becomes more important to us

  192. than the deep personal joy

  193. we have with the Father.

  194. In fact, our cravings

  195. for something else

  196. begin to replace

  197. our fellowship with God.

  198. So, rather than looking

  199. to the Father's love

  200. to be satisfied and fulfilled,

  201. we begin to look to other things

  202. and other people.

  203. Rather than looking

  204. to all that the Father

  205. has given to us

  206. and the immensity

  207. of his love to his children,

  208. we take our focus of that

  209. and we begin to love

  210. other things

  211. and look to be filled

  212. with that.

  213. You see, the point

  214. is very simple.

  215. We can't enjoy

  216. the love of the Father

  217. and at the same time

  218. love the world.

  219. You cannot mix

  220. and match.

  221. So, that's the first love.

  222. The second,

  223. let's read verse 16 again.

  224. For everything

  225. in the world,

  226. the cravings

  227. of sinful man,

  228. the lust

  229. of his eyes.

  230. Now, I have a confession

  231. to make.

  232. I have a lust problem.

  233. I was walking around

  234. B&Q the other day

  235. and I saw a beautiful

  236. set of screwdrivers

  237. made by

  238. Stanley.

  239. Not B&Q Stanley,

  240. the real Stanley.

  241. Now, the problem is

  242. I've got lots of screwdrivers.

  243. I've got a whole toolbox

  244. full of screwdrivers.

  245. But what I saw,

  246. I wanted

  247. and I said to myself,

  248. I want that.

  249. and I came home

  250. with another box

  251. of more screwdrivers.

  252. You see,

  253. lust

  254. is just like

  255. a craving.

  256. Shaped by

  257. what we see

  258. and what we look at,

  259. we say to ourselves,

  260. I want that.

  261. And so,

  262. we take it

  263. regardless

  264. of the consequences

  265. to our fellowship

  266. with God.

  267. And the world

  268. constantly tell us

  269. through the media,

  270. and through

  271. every other means,

  272. that if you

  273. see something

  274. and you want it,

  275. take it.

  276. You deserve it.

  277. You're worth it.

  278. Take it for yourself.

  279. So,

  280. fuelled by the values

  281. of the world,

  282. we take all sorts

  283. of things.

  284. We swap our wife

  285. or husband

  286. for the virtual image

  287. on our computer screen

  288. and gaze

  289. at endless images

  290. and videos.

  291. We see what our friend

  292. has

  293. and,

  294. driven by envy,

  295. we go to the shops

  296. and buy one too.

  297. We're enticed

  298. by that new gadget

  299. that's just come out

  300. and we convince ourselves,

  301. I really can't operate

  302. without it.

  303. I need it.

  304. So,

  305. instead of looking

  306. and gazing

  307. at the goodness

  308. and the beauty

  309. of God,

  310. we begin

  311. to focus

  312. our eyes

  313. and turn our eyes

  314. to other things

  315. and other people

  316. and we convince

  317. ourselves

  318. and say,

  319. if I have that,

  320. I'll be satisfied

  321. and I'll be fulfilled.

  322. And all we're doing

  323. is replacing

  324. that love

  325. of the Father

  326. with something else.

  327. You see,

  328. we can't enjoy

  329. the love

  330. of the Father

  331. and at the same time

  332. love the world.

  333. We cannot mix

  334. and match.

  335. You see,

  336. this is a really

  337. deep-rooted problem.

  338. Let's have a look

  339. at the third love.

  340. Let's read

  341. verse 16 again.

  342. For everything

  343. in the world,

  344. the cravings

  345. of our sinful hearts,

  346. the lust

  347. of our longing eyes

  348. and the boasting

  349. of what we have

  350. and we do

  351. comes not

  352. from the Father

  353. but from the world.

  354. Have you ever

  355. watched the TV

  356. series,

  357. The Apprentice?

  358. All those people

  359. who go on

  360. to be

  361. Alan Sugar's

  362. Apprentice?

  363. If you listen

  364. to them,

  365. they talk

  366. non-stop

  367. about their

  368. achievements,

  369. their academic

  370. qualifications,

  371. the money

  372. they've earned,

  373. the businesses

  374. that they've set up,

  375. the awards

  376. that they've won.

  377. They are God's

  378. gift to

  379. everybody.

  380. It's just

  381. one boast

  382. after another

  383. and they talk

  384. non-stop

  385. about themselves,

  386. how great

  387. they are.

  388. Now the thing

  389. is about

  390. watching The

  391. Apprentice,

  392. it's actually

  393. like watching

  394. a mini-series

  395. of our own

  396. lives.

  397. Not that we

  398. necessarily have

  399. the same

  400. academic

  401. qualifications

  402. or business,

  403. but do we

  404. ever kind of

  405. take that

  406. little moment,

  407. that little

  408. moment of

  409. pride,

  410. and we

  411. look at our

  412. careers and

  413. say,

  414. I've got a

  415. really good

  416. job.

  417. I earned

  418. this.

  419. I got this

  420. through my

  421. hard work at

  422. college.

  423. I earned

  424. those points

  425. and I did

  426. well and

  427. look where I

  428. am today.

  429. Or we get

  430. in our car

  431. and we

  432. say,

  433. I earned

  434. this,

  435. as we put

  436. the boot

  437. down a little

  438. bit more.

  439. I bought

  440. this with my

  441. hard-earned

  442. money.

  443. Or we walk

  444. around our

  445. house and

  446. sit down in

  447. the comfort

  448. of our

  449. living room.

  450. We look at

  451. our possessions

  452. and we take

  453. that moment

  454. of pride

  455. and go,

  456. I own

  457. all of

  458. this.

  459. And inside

  460. we might

  461. necessarily

  462. broadcast it

  463. to the world,

  464. but we

  465. boast inwardly

  466. of all we

  467. have and

  468. all we

  469. do.

  470. You see,

  471. the subtle

  472. and destructive

  473. attitude of

  474. the world

  475. says,

  476. I don't

  477. need God.

  478. Every boast

  479. that we make

  480. about ourselves

  481. says,

  482. I don't

  483. need God.

  484. I can

  485. manage without

  486. God.

  487. I can live

  488. life without

  489. God.

  490. And our

  491. love for the

  492. world leads

  493. to live

  494. independently.

  495. from God.

  496. So instead

  497. of turning

  498. to God

  499. as the

  500. source of

  501. all that

  502. is good

  503. and right

  504. and beautiful,

  505. instead of

  506. turning to

  507. the one

  508. who gives

  509. the gifts,

  510. we look

  511. to ourself

  512. as the

  513. means of

  514. getting all

  515. that we

  516. want and

  517. desire.

  518. And it's

  519. back to the

  520. same issue.

  521. We can't

  522. enjoy the

  523. love of

  524. the Father

  525. and at the

  526. same time

  527. love the

  528. world.

  529. we cannot

  530. mix and

  531. match.

  532. It's

  533. serious.

  534. Now can

  535. we begin

  536. to see

  537. how dangerous

  538. and how

  539. destructive

  540. love for the

  541. world is?

  542. Loving the

  543. world might

  544. seem at one

  545. level innocent

  546. enough,

  547. but the

  548. world is

  549. not our

  550. friend.

  551. world will

  552. only rob

  553. us of

  554. our joy.

  555. It takes

  556. that deep

  557. rich

  558. fellowship

  559. that we

  560. have with

  561. the Father

  562. and it

  563. ruins us.

  564. It takes

  565. it away

  566. from us.

  567. And we

  568. do not

  569. experience

  570. the love

  571. of the

  572. Father.

  573. God

  574. love the

  575. love of

  576. the

  577. Father.

  578. Let me

  579. ask us

  580. all this

  581. searching

  582. question.

  583. Do you,

  584. do I

  585. experience

  586. the love

  587. of the

  588. Father

  589. in my

  590. life?

  591. Are you

  592. experiencing

  593. the love

  594. of the

  595. Father

  596. in your

  597. life?

  598. if not,

  599. if not,

  600. then everything

  601. we are

  602. living for,

  603. look at the

  604. end of

  605. verse 16,

  606. comes not

  607. from the

  608. Father,

  609. but from

  610. the world.

  611. If we do

  612. not experience

  613. the love of

  614. the Father

  615. in our

  616. lives,

  617. it's because

  618. we are

  619. looking to

  620. other things

  621. and other

  622. people,

  623. instead of

  624. the source

  625. itself.

  626. it's

  627. dangerous

  628. and

  629. destructive

  630. to love

  631. the world.

  632. So,

  633. last point,

  634. how do we

  635. protect

  636. ourselves

  637. from loving

  638. the world?

  639. How do we

  640. protect

  641. ourselves?

  642. Well,

  643. there's two

  644. ways we

  645. can protect

  646. ourselves.

  647. If you

  648. like,

  649. two security

  650. systems

  651. that we

  652. must download

  653. or install

  654. into our

  655. lives

  656. so that

  657. we protect

  658. and enjoy

  659. our fellowship

  660. with God.

  661. So,

  662. every time

  663. there's a

  664. temptation,

  665. every time

  666. there's a

  667. drawing away

  668. from the

  669. love of

  670. the Father

  671. to love

  672. the world,

  673. there's like

  674. an alarm

  675. that goes

  676. off in

  677. our lives

  678. and we're

  679. drawn back

  680. again to

  681. gaze at

  682. the beauty

  683. and the

  684. love of

  685. the Father

  686. instead of

  687. turning to

  688. the world.

  689. So,

  690. what's

  691. these security

  692. systems that

  693. we download?

  694. Well,

  695. they're very

  696. simple.

  697. here's the

  698. first one.

  699. It's called

  700. What the

  701. World Offers

  702. is Temporary.

  703. Download

  704. this into

  705. our memory

  706. system.

  707. Make it

  708. your security.

  709. Verse 17.

  710. The world

  711. and its

  712. desires

  713. pass

  714. away.

  715. It's

  716. simple.

  717. The lie

  718. of the

  719. world

  720. says,

  721. love me

  722. and I

  723. will satisfy

  724. you and

  725. fulfil you.

  726. Love me,

  727. says the

  728. world,

  729. and everything

  730. will be

  731. good.

  732. Well,

  733. the truth

  734. is,

  735. what the

  736. world offers

  737. is all

  738. temporary.

  739. It doesn't

  740. last.

  741. Look at

  742. verse 17

  743. again.

  744. The world

  745. and its

  746. desires

  747. pass away.

  748. Just like

  749. the lush

  750. flourishing

  751. leaves in

  752. summer,

  753. so they

  754. wither and

  755. they die

  756. and they

  757. fall in

  758. autumn.

  759. The things

  760. and people

  761. of this

  762. world,

  763. they simply

  764. do not

  765. last.

  766. So,

  767. sorry to

  768. burst your

  769. bubble,

  770. but your

  771. beauty

  772. fades.

  773. Your

  774. strength

  775. fails.

  776. Your

  777. loved

  778. ones

  779. die.

  780. Your

  781. money

  782. gets

  783. spent.

  784. Your

  785. possessions

  786. break.

  787. Your

  788. careers

  789. end.

  790. Everything

  791. is

  792. temporary.

  793. It

  794. will not

  795. last.

  796. You

  797. see,

  798. when we

  799. crave

  800. something,

  801. when we

  802. lust after

  803. something,

  804. when we

  805. get it,

  806. we're not

  807. only realising

  808. that the

  809. happiness that

  810. it brings

  811. is only

  812. short-lived,

  813. but our

  814. fellowship with

  815. God is

  816. broken and

  817. the deep

  818. personal joy

  819. is lost.

  820. And in

  821. its place,

  822. we're left

  823. with guilt,

  824. disappointment,

  825. and

  826. emptiness.

  827. So,

  828. security

  829. system

  830. number

  831. one.

  832. What the

  833. world offers

  834. is temporary.

  835. Remember

  836. that.

  837. Security

  838. system

  839. number

  840. two,

  841. that we

  842. must

  843. download.

  844. Here it

  845. is.

  846. What God

  847. offers is

  848. eternal.

  849. Let's

  850. read all

  851. of verse

  852. 17.

  853. The

  854. world

  855. and its

  856. desires

  857. pass

  858. away.

  859. But the

  860. person

  861. who does

  862. the will

  863. of God

  864. lives

  865. forever.

  866. You see,

  867. the promise

  868. of God

  869. is life

  870. now and

  871. life for

  872. all eternity.

  873. That life

  874. as we've

  875. been seeing

  876. is fellowship

  877. with the

  878. Father and

  879. with his

  880. Son.

  881. This is

  882. where we

  883. experience

  884. life in

  885. all its

  886. fullness.

  887. It's

  888. sharing in

  889. that deep

  890. relationship

  891. that will

  892. never fail

  893. us.

  894. Entering

  895. into the

  896. love the

  897. Father has

  898. for the

  899. Son and

  900. the Son

  901. has for

  902. the Father.

  903. And in

  904. this

  905. fellowship,

  906. in this

  907. relationship,

  908. we find

  909. joy in

  910. all its

  911. fullness and

  912. all its

  913. completeness.

  914. This is

  915. life.

  916. And if

  917. we are to

  918. know this

  919. life,

  920. look at

  921. verse 17,

  922. it says,

  923. we must

  924. do the

  925. will of

  926. God.

  927. We must

  928. do the

  929. will of

  930. God.

  931. So what

  932. is God's

  933. will?

  934. What must

  935. I do

  936. to have

  937. this

  938. life?

  939. You may

  940. be remembered

  941. to what

  942. Ralph said

  943. as he

  944. introduced

  945. the

  946. songs.

  947. We don't

  948. have to

  949. do anything

  950. because it's

  951. all by

  952. grace.

  953. So what

  954. do you

  955. mean we

  956. have to

  957. do

  958. something?

  959. Well,

  960. have a

  961. look at

  962. chapter 3

  963. verse 23.

  964. It's just

  965. over the

  966. page.

  967. Okay,

  968. here's what

  969. God's will

  970. is.

  971. This is what

  972. we have to

  973. do to

  974. experience

  975. this life

  976. in all

  977. its

  978. fullness.

  979. Chapter 3

  980. verse 23.

  981. And this

  982. is his

  983. command.

  984. So this

  985. is God's

  986. will.

  987. Here it

  988. is,

  989. to believe

  990. in the

  991. name of

  992. his son,

  993. Jesus

  994. Christ.

  995. That's

  996. his command,

  997. that we

  998. would simply

  999. believe,

  1000. that we

  1001. would simply

  1002. trust in

  1003. the Lord

  1004. Jesus

  1005. Christ,

  1006. that

  1007. everything,

  1008. that all

  1009. we should

  1010. ever want

  1011. or imagine

  1012. is in

  1013. him.

  1014. God's

  1015. will is

  1016. that we

  1017. would believe

  1018. that God

  1019. loves us

  1020. and gave

  1021. himself for

  1022. us.

  1023. So my

  1024. encouragement

  1025. to us all

  1026. this morning

  1027. is to

  1028. readdress

  1029. the cravings

  1030. that we

  1031. have.

  1032. Crave a

  1033. deeper

  1034. understanding

  1035. of God's

  1036. love for

  1037. you.

  1038. How do

  1039. we do

  1040. that?

  1041. Pray for

  1042. it.

  1043. Ask God

  1044. for a

  1045. hunger

  1046. and a

  1047. desire

  1048. to know

  1049. more of

  1050. God

  1051. and to

  1052. experience

  1053. his love

  1054. in your

  1055. life.

  1056. Look at

  1057. the beauty

  1058. of God

  1059. instead of

  1060. looking at

  1061. other things.

  1062. Look at

  1063. the beauty

  1064. of God

  1065. in all

  1066. that he

  1067. is and

  1068. all that

  1069. he has

  1070. done for

  1071. us.

  1072. Gaze

  1073. at his

  1074. mercy and

  1075. grace as

  1076. you open

  1077. up your

  1078. Bible and

  1079. read about

  1080. God and

  1081. all that

  1082. he has

  1083. done.

  1084. Just marvel

  1085. at his

  1086. mercy and

  1087. grace.

  1088. Let the

  1089. goodness and

  1090. greatness of

  1091. God begin

  1092. to control

  1093. you and

  1094. consume you

  1095. and direct

  1096. your passions

  1097. and your

  1098. desires to

  1099. the Father

  1100. who loves

  1101. you.

  1102. And boast

  1103. not in

  1104. ourselves

  1105. but boast

  1106. in the

  1107. cross of

  1108. Jesus where

  1109. we find our

  1110. all and our

  1111. everything.

  1112. so install

  1113. these two

  1114. security

  1115. systems into

  1116. your life.

  1117. Every time

  1118. we're drawn

  1119. to love the

  1120. world the

  1121. alarm will

  1122. sound, it

  1123. will bleep

  1124. and it

  1125. will tell

  1126. us and

  1127. we will

  1128. remind

  1129. ourselves that

  1130. what God

  1131. offers is

  1132. eternal but

  1133. what the

  1134. world offers

  1135. is temporary.

  1136. do not

  1137. love the

  1138. world.

  1139. If anyone

  1140. loves the

  1141. world, the

  1142. love of the

  1143. Father is

  1144. not in

  1145. them.

  1146. Let's pray

  1147. together.

  1148. as for

  1149. man, his

  1150. days are

  1151. like grass.

  1152. He flourishes

  1153. like a flower

  1154. of a field,

  1155. the wind

  1156. blows over

  1157. it and

  1158. it is

  1159. gone and

  1160. its place

  1161. remembers it

  1162. no more.

  1163. But

  1164. from

  1165. everlasting

  1166. to

  1167. everlasting

  1168. the

  1169. Lord's

  1170. love

  1171. is with

  1172. those

  1173. who fear

  1174. him.

  1175. Our

  1176. Father God,

  1177. it is our

  1178. desire

  1179. that you

  1180. would be

  1181. our

  1182. treasure

  1183. that you

  1184. would be

  1185. our all

  1186. and our

  1187. everything.

  1188. And so we

  1189. pray and ask

  1190. that you

  1191. would give

  1192. us a

  1193. hunger for

  1194. you,

  1195. that our

  1196. passions and

  1197. our desires

  1198. would be

  1199. directed to

  1200. you,

  1201. that we

  1202. would long

  1203. for your

  1204. spirit to

  1205. work in

  1206. our lives

  1207. to see

  1208. that the

  1209. Father's

  1210. love is

  1211. sufficient

  1212. and is

  1213. enough.

  1214. Please

  1215. forgive us

  1216. for the

  1217. times we

  1218. look to

  1219. the world

  1220. instead of

  1221. looking to

  1222. you.

  1223. And we

  1224. pray that

  1225. you would

  1226. help us

  1227. to see

  1228. that everything

  1229. around us

  1230. is temporary

  1231. whereas you

  1232. and your

  1233. son are

  1234. eternal.

  1235. Help us

  1236. to walk

  1237. closely with

  1238. you, we

  1239. pray.

  1240. In Jesus'

  1241. name.

  1242. Amen.

  1243. As we

  1244. finish, we're

  1245. going to

  1246. sing

  1247. When I

  1248. Survey the

  1249. Wondrous

  1250. Cross.

  1251. And as we've

  1252. been thinking

  1253. about where

  1254. we place

  1255. our gaze,

  1256. where we

  1257. look, what

  1258. consumes us,

  1259. what

  1260. consumes us,
