  1. I'm going to come and read those now, thanks.

  2. The first reading is in John chapter 8, which is on page 1074 of the Church Bibles.

    John 8 chapter mention

  3. So John chapter 8, starting in verse 42.

    John 8 chapter mention

  4. Jesus said to them,

  5. If God were your father, you would love me, for I came from God and now I'm here.

  6. I have not come on my own, but he sent me.

  7. Why is my language not clear to you?

  8. Because you are unable to hear what I say.

  9. You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father's desire.

  10. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him.

  11. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.

  12. Yet because I tell you the truth, you do not believe me.

  13. Can any of you prove me guilty of sin?

  14. If I am telling the truth, why don't you believe me?

  15. He who belongs to God hears what God says.

  16. The reason you do not hear is that you do not belong to God.

  17. The next reading is in 1 John chapter 3, which is on 1, 2, 2, 6 of the church Bibles there.

    1 John 3 chapter mention

  18. 1 John chapter 3, starting in verse 4.

    1 John 3 chapter mention

  19. Everyone who sins breaks the law.

  20. In fact, sin is lawlessness.

  21. But you know that he appeared so that he might take away our sins.

  22. And in him is no sin.

  23. No one who lives in him keeps on sinning.

  24. No one who continues to sin has either seen him or known him.

  25. Dear children, do not let anyone lead you astray.

  26. He who does what is right is righteous, just as he is righteous.

  27. He who does what is sinful is of the devil, because the devil has been sinning from the beginning.

  28. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil's work.

  29. No one who is born of God will continue to sin, because God's seed remains in him.

  30. He cannot go on sinning, because he has been born of God.

  31. This is how we know who the children of God are and who the children of the devil are.

  32. Anyone who does not do what is right is not a child of God, nor is anyone who does not love his brother.

  33. Thanks very much, Kirsty.

  34. So please keep your Bibles open there in 1 John as we continue in our studies of this letter.

  35. And as you are doing that, also there are pens, pencils and notes as well.

  36. If you would like to take notes, just put up your hand and you can grab a pencil and some notes there as well.

  37. Let me hear in 1 John.

  38. Hello?

  39. Hello?

  40. Yes.

  41. Thanks very much, Noreen.

  42. Well, let's pray and let's ask for God's help as we look at this.

  43. Father, we recognize there are many, many voices that speak into our lives.

  44. But ultimately, we want to hear your voice.

  45. We want to hear your words spoken to us.

  46. So as we look at your word together, your word which is written here before us,

  47. preserved for us so that we may know you and understand you,

  48. we pray that you would speak by your spirit into our lives

  49. to help us grow in our fellowship with you.

  50. Teach us the right attitude and the right approach that we should have

  51. as we seek to walk with you.

  52. Father, help us to hear you.

  53. And may your words change us.

  54. We pray this for a closer walk with you, we pray.

  55. In Jesus' name. Amen.

  56. Amen.

  57. Well, I want to start this morning by giving you some very helpful advice.

  58. Don't worry about declaring your full income to the taxman.

  59. Nobody does that.

  60. Go and celebrate with your mates.

  61. Have a few drinks.

  62. Getting drunk once in a while can't be harmful.

  63. Leave work early on Fridays.

  64. It's not a big problem.

  65. Even your boss does that.

  66. No need to be completely honest.

  67. A little white lie can't hurt anyone.

  68. Have a look at that X-rated video.

  69. It's just natural.

  70. Everybody does.

  71. Forget the speed limit.

  72. If you don't, you're just going to be late.

  73. Join in the gossip about your work colleague.

  74. They only say the same things about you.

  75. You see, I think we all just need to relax a little bit.

  76. Don't take our behaviour so seriously.

  77. It's really not such a big deal.

  78. What harm is there in a few little sins?

  79. After all, none of us are perfect, are we?

  80. Have a look at verse 7.

  81. Dear children, do not let anyone lead you astray.

  82. You see, there are those who do try to undermine the seriousness of sin.

  83. We met the same warning back in chapter 2.

  84. Do you remember what it says?

  85. Chapter 2, verse 26.

  86. He says the same thing.

  87. I am writing these things to you about those who are trying to lead you astray.

  88. In chapter 2, people were saying,

  89. it doesn't matter what you believe.

  90. You can believe what you like about Jesus.

  91. It really doesn't matter.

  92. Now in chapter 3, they are saying,

  93. it doesn't matter how you behave.

  94. What harm is there in a few little sins?

  95. After all, nobody is perfect.

  96. But the point is, sin is serious.

  97. Look at chapter 3, verse 4.

  98. Everyone who sins breaks the law.

  99. In fact, if you are somebody here this morning,

  100. and you claim to have fellowship with God,

  101. there's actually no room for any sin in our life.

  102. Look at verse 6.

  103. No one who lives in him keeps on sinning.

  104. Or look at verse 9.

  105. No one who is born of God will continue to sin.

  106. Is that you?

  107. You see, sin is serious.

  108. It breaks and damages our fellowship with God.

  109. It robs us of that deep relational joy

  110. that we have with the Father and with the Son.

  111. And that's why he is so clear in saying, verse 7,

  112. Dear children, do not let anyone lead you astray.

  113. Don't let anyone say to you,

  114. behaviour doesn't matter.

  115. In fact, if we are to grow in our fellowship with God,

  116. we've got to have two things in place.

  117. We have to have a right attitude to sin,

  118. and we are to have a right approach to sin.

  119. So let's have a look at these together.

  120. The first is, we've got to have a right attitude to sin.

  121. Now under this, we've got three small headings.

  122. Here's the first one.

  123. What sin is.

  124. Verse 4.

  125. Everyone who sins breaks the law.

  126. In fact, sin is lawlessness.

  127. So sin is not just about breaking the law of the land.

  128. It's not just about breaking the speed limit.

  129. It's not just about breaking the law of God.

  130. He says it's lawlessness.

  131. That means it's not so much an action we do,

  132. but it's an attitude that we have.

  133. It's not so much an action we do,

  134. but an attitude we have.

  135. Lawlessness means open rebellion

  136. and opposition to God and his ways.

  137. In other words, it's an attitude of our hearts.

  138. Maybe you've seen them for real,

  139. or maybe it's just been on the television.

  140. But when you see an iceberg floating in the sea,

  141. you only get to see about one third of the actual iceberg.

  142. The other two thirds are lurking, unseen, below the water.

  143. And that's a little bit like our sin.

  144. So the wrong things we do and say and think

  145. are just what we see on the surface.

  146. They're just the tip of the iceberg.

  147. But they reflect something much bigger and greater

  148. that lies beneath.

  149. Sin is an attitude deep down in our hearts

  150. that is opposed to God.

  151. So instead of God making the rules,

  152. I become the rule maker.

  153. Instead of listening to what God wants,

  154. I in turn decide what God wants.

  155. Sin is an attitude of the heart.

  156. And if sin is in opposition to God,

  157. then we can't at the same time enjoy fellowship with God.

  158. If we're flirting with sin and messing with sin,

  159. then enjoying God at the same time is incompatible.

  160. You can't have both.

  161. You can't have a life of sin

  162. and at the same time enjoy God.

  163. That's what sin is.

  164. And that's why it's serious.

  165. But thankfully God has done something about it

  166. so that we can enjoy him.

  167. Number two, what Jesus has done.

  168. Look at verse five.

  169. But you know that he, that Jesus appeared,

  170. so that he might take away our sins.

  171. So here's the primary reason

  172. why Jesus came as the God-man.

  173. He didn't come to make people well.

  174. He didn't come to make people better.

  175. That's not the primary reason.

  176. And the primary reason Jesus came

  177. was to deal with the problem of our sin.

  178. Look at verse five.

  179. He came to take away our sins.

  180. Literally, that means he removes the consequences

  181. of our sin from us.

  182. He pays the penalty for us.

  183. And to help us understand that,

  184. we've got a good little picture of it

  185. in chapter two, verse two.

  186. Just have a look back there at chapter two, verse two.

  187. This helps us to understand what it means

  188. that he takes away our sins.

  189. Verse two of chapter two.

  190. He, that is Jesus,

  191. is the atoning sacrifice for our sins.

  192. And not only for ours,

  193. but also for the sins of the whole world.

  194. Now we're going to get very technical here.

  195. Okay?

  196. You've probably got a little letter

  197. beside one of the words there

  198. at the end of chapter two.

  199. And if you look at the bottom of the page,

  200. you'll see a little note

  201. where it's got two.

  202. So you're following me

  203. at the bottom of the page of your Bible.

  204. You've got another little note

  205. beside verse two.

  206. And here's what it says.

  207. So here's a different way of reading that verse.

  208. And it says this.

  209. He, that's Jesus,

  210. is the one who turns aside God's wrath,

  211. taking away our sins.

  212. So do you see what's happening

  213. when Jesus dies?

  214. The wrath of God is turned away from us,

  215. and it is turned towards Jesus.

  216. The judgment that was placed on us

  217. has now been removed

  218. and it has been taken away by Jesus

  219. and it falls on Jesus.

  220. But how can Jesus take away my sin and your sin?

  221. What qualifies him to do that?

  222. Well, go back to chapter three, verse five.

  223. It tells us,

  224. you know that he appeared

  225. so that he might take away our sins

  226. and in him is no sin.

  227. Jesus was perfectly pure.

  228. He was faultless in his words and deeds.

  229. Morally, he did not fail.

  230. He never got things wrong.

  231. And being sinless,

  232. he did something spectacular for us.

  233. He takes my sin from me

  234. and he puts it on himself.

  235. And he puts himself where we deserve to be

  236. and he is treated as we deserve to be.

  237. So Jesus pays the penalty

  238. for our lawlessness.

  239. And he did this so that we could be

  240. in right fellowship with God.

  241. The sin has been taken away

  242. so that we can live in right relationship with God.

  243. That's to have a right attitude towards sin.

  244. Sin is an attitude of the heart.

  245. It's deep down.

  246. It needs to be dealt with.

  247. And Jesus has dealt with it.

  248. Now, I know we know these things.

  249. But they serve as a foundation

  250. for what follows next.

  251. How we should live.

  252. Because if we understand what sin is

  253. and if we understand what Jesus has done,

  254. then it shapes my attitude towards sin.

  255. Have a look at verse 6.

  256. No one who lives in him

  257. keeps on sinning.

  258. Now, I don't know about you,

  259. but that is one of the most troubling verses

  260. in the Bible.

  261. Because I read that and I go,

  262. yes, I'm a Christian,

  263. but then it says,

  264. no one who lives in him keeps on sinning.

  265. And my problem is I keep on sinning.

  266. Or am I the only one?

  267. So what is it?

  268. It seems a bit of a contradiction

  269. to what was read earlier a few weeks ago.

  270. Have a look at chapter 1, verse 8.

  271. Chapter 1, verse 8.

  272. As a reminder of what we read,

  273. chapter 1, verse 8 says,

  274. If we claim to be without sin,

  275. we deceive ourselves

  276. and the truth is not in us.

  277. Or look at verse 10.

  278. If we claim we have not sinned,

  279. we make him out to be a liar

  280. and his word has no place in our lives.

  281. So, you know, we're only fooling ourselves

  282. if we say we never sin.

  283. We're living a lie.

  284. So what does it mean

  285. when it says in chapter 3, verse 6,

  286. no one who lives in him

  287. keeps on sinning?

  288. What is it?

  289. Do we keep sinning?

  290. Or are we not meant to sin?

  291. Well, here's what I think it is.

  292. I think it means

  293. we now have a new attitude to sin.

  294. Rather than tolerate sin,

  295. we hate sin.

  296. If Jesus has paid the penalty of my sin,

  297. then I too am going to take sin seriously.

  298. It means

  299. if sin is in opposition to God,

  300. then I will deal quickly

  301. with the sin in my life

  302. so that I enjoy my fellowship with God.

  303. So rather than living in opposition to God,

  304. I am now longing and aching

  305. and have a desire for communion with God.

  306. It doesn't mean I'm never going to sin again.

  307. However, it does mean

  308. I will not keep sinning

  309. with a carefree,

  310. it doesn't matter kind of attitude.

  311. So instead of making excuses

  312. and pretending we don't sin

  313. or pretending that sin isn't serious

  314. and that my behaviour doesn't matter,

  315. I will take that seriously

  316. and I will long to see

  317. change and transformation

  318. in my life.

  319. That's what's at the heart of verse 6.

  320. No one who lives in him

  321. keeps on sinning.

  322. We have a desire to change

  323. and be transformed.

  324. Now,

  325. if you're someone here this morning

  326. who says,

  327. oh yeah,

  328. I have fellowship with God,

  329. I'm a child of God,

  330. but

  331. you keep on sinning

  332. with this carefree attitude of,

  333. well what does it matter

  334. if I do something wrong?

  335. It really doesn't matter.

  336. If that's the way you think,

  337. look at the rest of verse 6.

  338. No one who continues to sin

  339. has either seen him

  340. or know him.

  341. In other words,

  342. it's a false claim.

  343. You can't tolerate sin

  344. and at the same time

  345. enjoy fellowship with God.

  346. It means you've never seen him

  347. or known him.

  348. In other words,

  349. you can't be a child of God.

  350. You can't be trying to live

  351. the Christian life

  352. and at the same time

  353. messing about

  354. and flirting with sin

  355. as if it doesn't matter.

  356. So,

  357. let me ask us the question,

  358. what is our attitude

  359. to sin?

  360. Which brings us

  361. to the next big heading,

  362. the right approach to sin.

  363. And here we see

  364. the same kind of pattern

  365. repeated.

  366. We've got the same three headings

  367. in this section.

  368. But they all tell us

  369. something different.

  370. First,

  371. what sin is.

  372. Look at verse 8.

  373. He who does

  374. what is sinful

  375. is of the devil.

  376. Now that's really strong language,

  377. isn't it?

  378. Is that really true?

  379. Does that really mean

  380. that when I sin,

  381. I'm of the devil?

  382. Well,

  383. in the Gospel of John,

  384. we have the same idea.

  385. And I think it helps

  386. explain it to us

  387. a little bit better.

  388. Have a look back.

  389. We read it

  390. at the beginning.

  391. John chapter 8

    John 8:44

  392. verse 44.

  393. John chapter 8

    John 8:44

  394. verse 44.

  395. And here Jesus

  396. has been talking

  397. to the religious leaders

  398. who are all

  399. in opposition

  400. to Jesus

  401. and they're wanting

  402. to kill Jesus.

  403. They want to get rid of him.

  404. They're opposed to him.

  405. And look how Jesus

  406. describes them.

  407. Look at the language

  408. he uses.

  409. Verse 44

  410. of John chapter 8.

    John 8 chapter mention

  411. Look what he says.

  412. You belong

  413. to your father,

  414. the devil.

  415. And you want

  416. to carry out

  417. your father's desire.

  418. He was a murderer

  419. from the beginning,

  420. not holding

  421. to the truth,

  422. for there is no truth

  423. in him.

  424. When he lies,

  425. he speaks

  426. his native language,

  427. for he is a liar

  428. and the father

  429. of lies.

  430. Strong language,

  431. but true.

  432. You see,

  433. again,

  434. it's telling us

  435. that sin isn't just

  436. an action

  437. or a thought.

  438. It's so much

  439. deeper than

  440. just getting

  441. a few things wrong.

  442. Sin reflects

  443. our true identity

  444. and it says

  445. when we're living

  446. a sinful life,

  447. we belong

  448. to our father,

  449. the devil.

  450. Go back to

  451. 1 John chapter 3,

    1 John 3:8

  452. verse 8.

  453. That's why he says,

  454. 1 John 3,

    1 John 3:8

  455. verse 8,

  456. he who does

  457. what is sinful

  458. is of the devil.

  459. Because the devil

  460. has been sinning

  461. from the beginning.

  462. Just as sin

  463. is at the very nature

  464. of the devil,

  465. so sin is

  466. our true nature.

  467. So can we begin

  468. to see how

  469. tolerating sin

  470. is completely

  471. incompatible

  472. with enjoying

  473. God.

  474. Sin is not just

  475. a misdemeanor,

  476. it is actually

  477. a reflection

  478. of our true

  479. identity.

  480. It is of the devil.

  481. Now how are we

  482. going to deal

  483. with that?

  484. Because I don't

  485. like reading that

  486. about myself.

  487. Well thankfully

  488. God has done

  489. something

  490. about this

  491. sin problem.

  492. Look what

  493. Jesus has done.

  494. Look at the rest

  495. of verse 8.

  496. We'll read

  497. verse 8 again.

  498. He who does

  499. what is sinful

  500. is of the devil

  501. because the devil

  502. has been sinning

  503. from the beginning.

  504. The reason

  505. the Son of God,

  506. that's Jesus,

  507. appeared

  508. was to destroy

  509. the devil's work.

  510. So again

  511. we've got this

  512. primary reason

  513. that Jesus

  514. came into the

  515. world

  516. was to destroy,

  517. to break

  518. the power

  519. and the hold

  520. the devil has

  521. over us.

  522. Because the devil's

  523. work is to

  524. seduce us

  525. so that we are

  526. people who oppose

  527. God and rebel

  528. against God.

  529. That's what he's

  530. been doing from

  531. the beginning.

  532. That's what he did

  533. in the Garden of Eden.

  534. He is convincing

  535. us that living

  536. in the kingdom

  537. of darkness

  538. is a much better

  539. place to live

  540. than walking

  541. in the light.

  542. So Jesus came

  543. to destroy

  544. his work.

  545. He came to

  546. break the power

  547. of sin

  548. and its hold

  549. over us.

  550. So through his

  551. death on the cross

  552. he has rescued us

  553. from the way

  554. in which we walk

  555. in darkness.

  556. He takes us

  557. from that kingdom

  558. and brings us

  559. into a kingdom

  560. of light.

  561. God.

  562. And because of

  563. what Jesus

  564. has done

  565. that means

  566. we are no

  567. longer children

  568. of the devil

  569. we are children

  570. of God.

  571. So have a look

  572. at chapter 3

  573. verse 1

  574. what we looked

  575. at last week.

  576. Because of what

  577. Jesus has done

  578. how great

  579. is the love

  580. the Father

  581. has lavished

  582. on us

  583. that we should

  584. be called

  585. children

  586. of God.

  587. And if that

  588. hasn't sunk in

  589. and we don't

  590. believe it

  591. look at the rest

  592. of it.

  593. And that is

  594. what we are.

  595. Because Jesus

  596. has destroyed

  597. the work of the

  598. devil.

  599. Because of our

  600. faith in him

  601. we are no

  602. longer belonging

  603. to our father

  604. the devil.

  605. We now have

  606. God as our

  607. father.

  608. We've been

  609. released from

  610. one family

  611. and we've been

  612. transferred into

  613. the family of

  614. God.

  615. Jesus came

  616. to break

  617. the power

  618. of sin.

  619. He's destroyed

  620. the work

  621. of the devil

  622. so that we

  623. can enjoy

  624. fellowship

  625. with God.

  626. This is what

  627. he has done

  628. for us.

  629. Now again

  630. I know

  631. you know

  632. this.

  633. And in some

  634. ways this is

  635. foundational

  636. and we're

  637. rehearsing

  638. so much

  639. of what we

  640. know to be

  641. true.

  642. But unless

  643. we've got

  644. this foundation

  645. right

  646. we're not

  647. going to have

  648. the right

  649. approach

  650. to our

  651. sin.

  652. Because this

  653. all affects

  654. how we

  655. should live.

  656. Look at

  657. verse 9.

  658. Verse 9

  659. No one

  660. who is born

  661. of God

  662. will continue

  663. to sin.

  664. Again it's

  665. almost the

  666. same as what

  667. we have in

  668. verse 6.

  669. It sounds

  670. like that

  671. contradiction.

  672. but we

  673. already know

  674. have a look

  675. at chapter

  676. 1 verse 9

  677. that God

  678. has provided

  679. a way for

  680. us to be

  681. restored when

  682. we do

  683. sin.

  684. So when we

  685. do mess up

  686. and we do

  687. fail

  688. look at

  689. chapter 1

  690. verse 9

  691. if we

  692. confess our

  693. sins

  694. he is

  695. faithful and

  696. just and

  697. he will

  698. forgive us

  699. our sins

  700. and purify

  701. us from

  702. all unrighteousness.

  703. So it

  704. can't be

  705. saying that

  706. you're meant

  707. to be

  708. perfect and

  709. never get

  710. anything wrong

  711. again.

  712. So what

  713. does it

  714. mean when

  715. it says

  716. in verse 9

  717. no one

  718. who is

  719. born of

  720. God will

  721. continue to

  722. sin?

  723. Well again

  724. I think it's

  725. that we now

  726. have a new

  727. approach to

  728. sin.

  729. Rather than

  730. tolerate sin

  731. we hate

  732. sin.

  733. If Jesus

  734. has destroyed

  735. the work

  736. of the devil

  737. then that

  738. means I

  739. will take

  740. sin

  741. seriously.

  742. it means

  743. I will

  744. no longer

  745. put up

  746. with the

  747. behaviours

  748. in my

  749. life

  750. that

  751. destroy

  752. and

  753. damage

  754. my

  755. relationship

  756. with

  757. God.

  758. I will

  759. no longer

  760. put up

  761. with the

  762. behaviours

  763. in my

  764. life

  765. that

  766. damage

  767. and

  768. destroy

  769. my

  770. relationship

  771. with

  772. God.

  773. Instead

  774. I will

  775. fight

  776. the sin

  777. that seeks

  778. to wreak

  779. havoc.

  780. And how

  781. are we

  782. going to

  783. fight it?

  784. Well let's

  785. read verse

  786. 9 again.

  787. No one

  788. who is

  789. born of

  790. God

  791. will

  792. continue

  793. to

  794. sin

  795. and

  796. here's

  797. the

  798. reason

  799. because

  800. God's

  801. seed

  802. remains

  803. in

  804. him.

  805. Now let's

  806. explain what

  807. that means.

  808. When a

  809. child is

  810. born

  811. they

  812. carry

  813. with

  814. them

  815. something

  816. of the

  817. DNA

  818. of their

  819. father.

  820. They

  821. carry

  822. something

  823. of the

  824. father's

  825. seed.

  826. That

  827. can't

  828. be

  829. changed.

  830. It

  831. can't

  832. be

  833. tampered

  834. with.

  835. So as

  836. the

  837. child

  838. grows

  839. day

  840. by

  841. day

  842. they

  843. begin

  844. to

  845. look

  846. like

  847. physically

  848. and

  849. sound

  850. like

  851. their

  852. biological

  853. father.

  854. They

  855. inherit

  856. something

  857. of their

  858. father's

  859. seed.

  860. Now

  861. that's

  862. the

  863. same

  864. idea

  865. that we

  866. have

  867. here

  868. in this

  869. verse.

  870. God

  871. as it

  872. were

  873. has

  874. implanted

  875. his

  876. seed

  877. in

  878. us

  879. so

  880. that

  881. we

  882. become

  883. more

  884. like

  885. him

  886. and

  887. we

  888. live

  889. like

  890. him.

  891. As

  892. his

  893. children

  894. we

  895. now

  896. have

  897. something

  898. of the

  899. very

  900. nature

  901. of

  902. God

  903. within

  904. us

  905. so

  906. that

  907. we

  908. now

  909. view

  910. sin

  911. the

  912. same

  913. way

  914. as

  915. he

  916. do.

  917. We

  918. hate

  919. sin

  920. and

  921. we

  922. fight

  923. against

  924. sin.

  925. And

  926. the

  927. reason

  928. why

  929. we

  930. can

  931. fight

  932. it

  933. is

  934. because

  935. we

  936. have

  937. his

  938. seed.

  939. He

  940. has

  941. given

  942. us

  943. the

  944. power

  945. of

  946. his

  947. Holy

  948. Spirit

  949. within

  950. us

  951. so

  952. that

  953. we

  954. can

  955. live

  956. the

  957. life

  958. that

  959. he

  960. has

  961. called

  962. us

  963. to.

  964. Just

  965. as

  966. Jesus

  967. broke

  968. the

  969. power

  970. of

  971. sin

  972. in

  973. our

  974. lives

  975. so

  976. the

  977. spirit

  978. in

  979. us

  980. is

  981. that

  982. ongoing

  983. power

  984. to

  985. fight

  986. sin.

  987. So

  988. the

  989. reason

  990. we

  991. do

  992. not

  993. continue

  994. with

  995. this

  996. carefree

  997. it

  998. doesn't

  999. matter

  1000. approach

  1001. is

  1002. because

  1003. we

  1004. have

  1005. something

  1006. of

  1007. the

  1008. very

  1009. nature

  1010. of

  1011. God

  1012. we

  1013. are

  1014. his

  1015. children

  1016. and

  1017. so

  1018. we

  1019. begin

  1020. to

  1021. grow

  1022. like

  1023. him.

  1024. Now

  1025. let

  1026. me

  1027. ask

  1028. this

  1029. if

  1030. we

  1031. have

  1032. this

  1033. it

  1034. doesn't

  1035. matter

  1036. approach

  1037. to

  1038. sin

  1039. if

  1040. you're

  1041. looking

  1042. at

  1043. some

  1044. of

  1045. your

  1046. behaviours

  1047. and

  1048. I

  1049. look

  1050. at

  1051. some

  1052. of

  1053. my

  1054. behaviours

  1055. the

  1056. things

  1057. I

  1058. do

  1059. and

  1060. I

  1061. go

  1062. you

  1063. know

  1064. what

  1065. it

  1066. really

  1067. doesn't

  1068. matter

  1069. and

  1070. brush it

  1071. under

  1072. the

  1073. carpet

  1074. and

  1075. let's

  1076. not

  1077. deal

  1078. with

  1079. it

  1080. it's

  1081. okay

  1082. if

  1083. that

  1084. is

  1085. our

  1086. approach

  1087. then

  1088. you

  1089. can't

  1090. be

  1091. in

  1092. fellowship

  1093. with

  1094. God

  1095. look

  1096. look

  1097. look at

  1098. look at

  1099. the

  1100. rest

  1101. of

  1102. verse

  1103. 9

  1104. well

  1105. we'll

  1106. read

  1107. all

  1108. of

  1109. verse

  1110. 9

  1111. no

  1112. one

  1113. who

  1114. is

  1115. born

  1116. of

  1117. God

  1118. will

  1119. continue

  1120. to

  1121. sin

  1122. because

  1123. God's

  1124. seed

  1125. remains

  1126. in

  1127. him

  1128. he

  1129. cannot

  1130. go

  1131. on

  1132. sinning

  1133. because

  1134. he

  1135. has

  1136. been

  1137. born

  1138. of

  1139. God

  1140. if

  1141. you

  1142. are

  1143. a

  1144. child

  1145. of

  1146. God

  1147. you

  1148. will

  1149. have

  1150. a

  1151. hatred

  1152. for

  1153. sin

  1154. and

  1155. you'll

  1156. want

  1157. to

  1158. deal

  1159. with

  1160. it

  1161. so

  1162. what

  1163. is

  1164. our

  1165. approach

  1166. to

  1167. sin

  1168. you

  1169. see

  1170. sin

  1171. is

  1172. serious

  1173. it

  1174. damages

  1175. and

  1176. destroys

  1177. our

  1178. fellowship

  1179. with

  1180. God

  1181. so

  1182. we

  1183. must

  1184. have

  1185. a

  1186. right

  1187. attitude

  1188. and

  1189. we

  1190. must

  1191. have

  1192. a

  1193. right

  1194. approach

  1195. towards

  1196. sin

  1197. in

  1198. fact

  1199. look

  1200. at

  1201. verse

  1202. 10

  1203. this

  1204. is

  1205. how

  1206. we

  1207. know

  1208. who

  1209. the

  1210. children

  1211. of

  1212. God

  1213. are

  1214. and

  1215. who

  1216. the

  1217. children

  1218. of

  1219. the

  1220. devil

  1221. are

  1222. anyone

  1223. who

  1224. does

  1225. not

  1226. do

  1227. what

  1228. is

  1229. right

  1230. is

  1231. not

  1232. a

  1233. child

  1234. of

  1235. God

  1236. nor

  1237. is

  1238. anyone

  1239. who

  1240. does

  1241. not

  1242. love

  1243. his

  1244. brother

  1245. our

  1246. behaviour

  1247. matters

  1248. there is

  1249. no such

  1250. thing

  1251. as a

  1252. little

  1253. sin

  1254. there is

  1255. no such

  1256. thing

  1257. as a

  1258. white

  1259. lie

  1260. how we

  1261. live

  1262. what we

  1263. say

  1264. and what

  1265. we do

  1266. is of

  1267. great

  1268. importance

  1269. because

  1270. it

  1271. tells

  1272. us

  1273. what

  1274. kind

  1275. of

  1276. child

  1277. I

  1278. am

  1279. now

  1280. if my

  1281. attitude

  1282. to sin

  1283. is

  1284. I

  1285. want

  1286. to

  1287. resist

  1288. it

  1289. if

  1290. my

  1291. approach

  1292. to

  1293. sin

  1294. is

  1295. I

  1296. want

  1297. to

  1298. fight

  1299. it

  1300. then

  1301. you're

  1302. a

  1303. child

  1304. of

  1305. God

  1306. we

  1307. can

  1308. have

  1309. great

  1310. confidence

  1311. that we

  1312. are

  1313. growing

  1314. in our

  1315. fellowship

  1316. with

  1317. God

  1318. but

  1319. if you

  1320. tolerate

  1321. sin

  1322. if

  1323. you

  1324. are

  1325. indifferent

  1326. to

  1327. sin

  1328. then

  1329. you

  1330. are

  1331. not

  1332. a

  1333. child

  1334. of

  1335. God

  1336. you

  1337. are

  1338. still

  1339. walking

  1340. in

  1341. darkness

  1342. this

  1343. is

  1344. not

  1345. a

  1346. call

  1347. to

  1348. say

  1349. you

  1350. are

  1351. perfect

  1352. or

  1353. somehow

  1354. to

  1355. be

  1356. perfect

  1357. it

  1358. is
