  1. Well, turn in your Bibles, please, to 1 Corinthians.

  2. We're going to be looking at different parts of the Bible today.

  3. But we're going to be looking or starting in 1 Corinthians chapter 15.

    1 Corinthians 15 chapter mention

  4. So if you have your Bibles there, please open them to 1 Corinthians chapter 15.

    1 Corinthians 15 chapter mention

  5. Amen.

  6. We've been going through the big story of the Bible.

  7. And we come this morning to the resurrection.

  8. So we're going to pray and ask for God's help as we look at this together.

  9. Let's pray.

  10. Father, we thank you for this truth of Jesus written from the dead, alive today.

  11. And while you are not present with us physically, we know that you are here present with us

  12. and in those who believe by your Holy Spirit.

  13. And so we ask that by your Spirit, you would encourage us afresh in your truth.

  14. Build us up in faith.

  15. Give us courage that we may be people who proclaim the Easter Rising.

  16. We ask for your help.

  17. In Jesus' name we pray.

  18. Amen.

  19. Well, on Easter Monday, the 24th of April, 1916, about 12 noon,

  20. Podrick Pierce read out the Proclamation of Ireland from the steps of the GPO in Dublin.

  21. We declare the rights of the people of Ireland to the ownership of Ireland

  22. and to the unfettered control of Irish destinies to be sovereign and indefeasible.

  23. Standing on that fundamental right and again asserting it in arms in the face of the world,

  24. we hereby proclaim the Irish Republic as a sovereign, independent state.

  25. The Republic guarantees religious and civil liberty, equal rights and equal opportunities to all its citizens

  26. and declares its resolve to pursue the happiness and prosperity of the whole nation and all its parts.

  27. And we know from history that at the cost of their lives and the lives of many others,

  28. Ireland gained her independence from Britain after 800 years of foreign rule.

  29. Now, while we might celebrate our national freedom,

  30. it's not a true freedom.

  31. We might be an independent, sovereign state,

  32. but Ireland is still very much a broken nation.

  33. And I don't mean politically or economically.

  34. It's much, much deeper than that.

  35. As we've been seeing over the week,

  36. the story of the Bible reminds us

  37. that we are still living under the effects of an ancient but ongoing rebellion against God

  38. that has left us enslaved to sin,

  39. cursed by suffering,

  40. and separated from God.

  41. So despite the heroic acts of 1916,

  42. we are still not free from the sinful, violent acts of gangland war

  43. or the silent abuse behind closed doors.

  44. While our past leaders promised a better life,

  45. we are still suffering tragic accidents like the family who drowned in Buncrana

  46. or cancers that rob us of family and friends.

  47. Even though our proclamation of all those years ago offers happiness,

  48. we are still searching for a temporal happiness

  49. while at the same time facing eternal separation from God

  50. and all that is good and beautiful.

  51. You see, we might celebrate a national freedom,

  52. but it is not a true freedom.

  53. Ireland is still broken.

  54. So what we need is a new proclamation.

  55. A proclamation that deals with the greatest problem of the people of Ireland.

  56. Sin, suffering, and our separation from God.

  57. Listen to the proclamation of God through the Apostle Paul in 1 Corinthians 15.

  58. Let's read from verse 1.

  59. Great words, great truths.

  60. Chapter 15, verse 1.

  61. Now, brothers and sisters, I want to remind you of the gospel that I preach to you.

  62. Here is the good news that I proclaim to you,

  63. which you received,

  64. on which you have taken your stand.

  65. By this gospel you are saved,

  66. if you hold firmly to the word I preach to you.

  67. Otherwise you have believed in vain.

  68. What is that gospel?

  69. What's that proclamation?

  70. Well, here it is in verse 3.

  71. For what I received,

  72. I passed on to you as of first importance,

  73. that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures,

  74. that he was buried,

  75. and that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures.

  76. Verse 20.

  77. But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead,

  78. the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep.

  79. For since death came through a man,

  80. the resurrection of the dead also comes through a man.

  81. For as in Adam all die,

  82. so in Christ all will be made alive.

  83. This is the proclamation of the true Easter rising.

  84. The true story of Jesus Christ,

  85. the God-man who is risen from the dead.

  86. You see, it is the resurrection of Jesus Christ

  87. that is the hope for our lives and for our nation.

  88. Through the resurrection,

  89. God reverses the effects of the ongoing rebellion against him.

  90. It's because Jesus has risen

  91. that God has dealt with the greatest problems of all,

  92. the problem of sin and suffering

  93. and our separation from him.

  94. So let's together this morning see

  95. how this new proclamation gets worked out,

  96. how God reverses the effects of sin,

  97. suffering and separation.

  98. First of all,

  99. we need to remember the story of death.

  100. 1 Corinthians 15 verse 22.

    1 Corinthians 15:22

  101. Do you see what it says?

  102. Verse 22.

  103. For as in Adam all die.

  104. The story of the Bible is telling us so clearly

  105. that each one of us here

  106. are all related to Adam,

  107. the first man.

  108. Forget our nationality,

  109. the country of our birth,

  110. wherever we come from,

  111. each one of us,

  112. we all have Adam's nature.

  113. So because Adam rebelled against God,

  114. we are people who are born

  115. who seek to live life without God.

  116. We're in rebellion against God.

  117. And the consequences are exactly the same.

  118. Verse 22.

  119. Just as Adam dies,

  120. we too die.

  121. You remember what God said to Adam in the garden.

  122. You mustn't eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

  123. For when you eat of that fruit,

  124. you will surely die.

  125. And ever since that first rebellious action,

  126. death has ruined and wrecked our lives

  127. and the world in which we live.

  128. It has destroyed us

  129. and it has broken us.

  130. Now we must understand

  131. the far-reaching consequences

  132. of this death

  133. that comes to all people.

  134. three things very simply and quickly.

  135. Three deaths.

  136. First,

  137. we die spiritually.

  138. You see,

  139. when Adam first sinned,

  140. his whole nature changed.

  141. And our nature is one of a sinful nature.

  142. So rather than love and obey God,

  143. we fight and we disobey Him.

  144. In fact,

  145. we no longer have the capacity

  146. or the desire within us

  147. to choose what is right

  148. and what is good

  149. all the time.

  150. If we had the ability

  151. to choose right and good all the time,

  152. then this nation and this world

  153. wouldn't be the broken mess that it is.

  154. The reality is

  155. we are spiritually dead.

  156. We are enslaved to a life of sin.

  157. That is our first death.

  158. Second,

  159. we die physically.

  160. Adam's sin

  161. resulted in the curse

  162. of a physical death

  163. and physical suffering.

  164. So every single person,

  165. ourselves included,

  166. as we're born into this world,

  167. we all suffer through illness

  168. and sickness.

  169. We get cancers and diseases.

  170. We face disability and weakness.

  171. But not only that,

  172. the world in which we live in

  173. is a creation that suffers.

  174. That's why we hear of stories

  175. and countries

  176. where there are destructive hurricanes

  177. and devastating earthquakes.

  178. We live in physical bodies

  179. that suffer.

  180. And we live in a world

  181. that suffers.

  182. And the end result of it all

  183. is physical death.

  184. We live under a curse

  185. of suffering.

  186. So we die spiritually.

  187. We die physically.

  188. And we die eternally.

  189. You see, Adam's rebellion

  190. ended in physical death.

  191. And we, one day,

  192. will end in death.

  193. But that death

  194. is an eternal death.

  195. Because we've turned against God,

  196. because we've been,

  197. we are now separated from God.

  198. Just as Adam was shut out

  199. from the garden,

  200. so we have been banished

  201. from the presence of God.

  202. We live a life

  203. without God,

  204. apart from Him.

  205. But that separation

  206. doesn't end with death,

  207. as if it's just a nothingness,

  208. an emptiness.

  209. No, it tells us

  210. that it continues on

  211. eternally

  212. in hell.

  213. Hell is God's

  214. final judgment

  215. upon a world

  216. that continues

  217. to reject Him

  218. and ignore Him

  219. and exclude Him

  220. and push Him out.

  221. It's an eternity

  222. of being separated

  223. from God,

  224. from all that is good

  225. and beautiful

  226. forever.

  227. This is the tragic

  228. and sad story

  229. of death.

  230. death.

  231. These are the effects

  232. of living in rebellion

  233. against God.

  234. This is what death

  235. has done to us.

  236. We are enslaved

  237. to sin.

  238. We are cursed

  239. by suffering.

  240. And we are separated

  241. from God.

  242. In Adam,

  243. all die.

  244. that is the story

  245. of death.

  246. And that is what

  247. we as a nation

  248. face.

  249. But then there's

  250. the story

  251. of resurrection.

  252. The story of life.

  253. Verse 21.

  254. Verse 21.

  255. For since death

  256. came through a man,

  257. the resurrection

  258. of the dead

  259. comes also

  260. through a man.

  261. For as in Adam

  262. all die,

  263. so in Christ

  264. all will be made

  265. alive.

  266. In Christ

  267. all live.

  268. You see,

  269. it is the resurrection

  270. that changes

  271. everything.

  272. C.S. Lewis,

  273. the great writer,

  274. put it like this

  275. as he was speaking

  276. about the resurrection.

  277. He says this,

  278. Jesus has forced

  279. open a door

  280. that has been

  281. locked

  282. since the death

  283. of the first man.

  284. He has met,

  285. fought,

  286. and beaten

  287. the king of death.

  288. Everything is

  289. different

  290. because he has

  291. done so.

  292. This is the

  293. beginning

  294. of the new

  295. creation.

  296. A new chapter

  297. in cosmic

  298. history

  299. has opened.

  300. You see,

  301. death

  302. closes the

  303. door

  304. on life.

  305. The resurrection

  306. opens the

  307. door

  308. to new

  309. life.

  310. So what does

  311. the resurrection

  312. bring?

  313. Well,

  314. it reverses

  315. the effects

  316. of death.

  317. It is the

  318. beginning of

  319. a new

  320. creation,

  321. a new

  322. chapter in

  323. cosmic

  324. history

  325. where

  326. everything

  327. is now

  328. changed.

  329. So look at the

  330. reversal

  331. that the

  332. resurrection

  333. brings about.

  334. First,

  335. resurrection

  336. freedom,

  337. overcoming

  338. our sin.

  339. have a

  340. look at

  341. Romans

    Romans 6:5

  342. chapter 6

  343. verse 5.

  344. This is the

  345. first section

  346. we're going to

  347. look at.

  348. Romans

    Romans 6:5

  349. chapter 6

  350. verse 5.

  351. Romans 6

    Romans 6:5

  352. verse 5.

  353. If we have been

  354. united with

  355. Christ like

  356. this in

  357. his death,

  358. we will

  359. certainly

  360. also be

  361. united with

  362. Christ in

  363. his

  364. resurrection.

  365. You see,

  366. through faith,

  367. we are united

  368. to Christ.

  369. In our

  370. birth,

  371. we are

  372. united to

  373. Adam.

  374. Through our

  375. faith,

  376. united to

  377. Christ.

  378. That means

  379. as Christ

  380. dies for

  381. our sin,

  382. we die

  383. to our

  384. sin.

  385. But it

  386. also means

  387. that just

  388. as Christ

  389. rises to

  390. live,

  391. so we

  392. also rise

  393. to live.

  394. No longer

  395. to live

  396. for sin,

  397. but now

  398. to live

  399. for God.

  400. No longer

  401. are we

  402. enslaved to

  403. sin,

  404. we have

  405. now been

  406. given a

  407. brand new

  408. nature.

  409. Look at

  410. verse 6.

  411. For we

  412. know that

  413. our old

  414. self was

  415. crucified

  416. with him,

  417. so that

  418. the body

  419. of sin

  420. might be

  421. done away

  422. with,

  423. that we

  424. should no

  425. longer be

  426. slaves to

  427. sin,

  428. because anyone

  429. who has

  430. died has

  431. been freed

  432. from sin.

  433. Now,

  434. if we

  435. died with

  436. Christ,

  437. we believe

  438. that we

  439. will also

  440. live with

  441. him,

  442. for we

  443. know that

  444. since Christ

  445. was raised

  446. from the

  447. dead,

  448. he cannot

  449. die again.

  450. Death

  451. no longer

  452. has mastery

  453. over him.

  454. The death

  455. he died,

  456. he died

  457. to sin

  458. once for

  459. all,

  460. but the

  461. life he

  462. lives,

  463. he lives

  464. to God.

  465. Do you

  466. see how

  467. the resurrection

  468. reverses

  469. everything?

  470. Where once

  471. we were

  472. enslaved

  473. to sin,

  474. we are

  475. now set

  476. free to

  477. live for

  478. God.

  479. Before we

  480. didn't have

  481. the desire

  482. or the

  483. capacity to

  484. do what

  485. is right

  486. or good,

  487. once we

  488. were spiritually

  489. dead,

  490. we had no

  491. choice but

  492. to sin.

  493. Now,

  494. we have

  495. been given

  496. resurrection

  497. freedom

  498. to live

  499. for God,

  500. to obey

  501. him,

  502. to love

  503. him,

  504. to forgive

  505. others,

  506. and not

  507. to retaliate,

  508. to love

  509. others,

  510. and not

  511. to hate,

  512. to bless

  513. others,

  514. and not

  515. to curse.

  516. Of course,

  517. it doesn't

  518. mean that

  519. we're

  520. perfect,

  521. but it

  522. means that

  523. we now

  524. use our

  525. new freedom

  526. from Christ

  527. to fight

  528. sin and

  529. to serve

  530. God.

  531. Look at

  532. verse 13

  533. of chapter

  534. 6.

  535. So because

  536. of the

  537. resurrection,

  538. do not

  539. offer the

  540. parts of

  541. your body

  542. to sin

  543. as instruments

  544. of wickedness,

  545. but rather

  546. offer yourselves

  547. to God

  548. as those

  549. who have

  550. been brought

  551. from death

  552. into life

  553. and offer

  554. the parts

  555. of your

  556. body to

  557. him as

  558. instruments

  559. of righteousness.

  560. So God

  561. has given

  562. us a brand

  563. new way

  564. to live,

  565. a new way

  566. in which we

  567. can offer

  568. ourselves to

  569. God and

  570. to others

  571. to do

  572. good,

  573. to bring

  574. peace to

  575. the hurting,

  576. to bring

  577. healing to

  578. the broken,

  579. to bring

  580. grace to

  581. the lost.

  582. Through the

  583. resurrection,

  584. the door

  585. has now

  586. been opened

  587. to a new

  588. way of

  589. living.

  590. It reverses

  591. the effects

  592. of death.

  593. So first

  594. we have

  595. resurrection

  596. freedom.

  597. The second

  598. thing we have

  599. because of

  600. the resurrection

  601. is power,

  602. resurrection

  603. power,

  604. overcoming

  605. suffering.

  606. Have a look

  607. at 1 Peter.

  608. 1 Peter

    1 Peter 1 chapter mention

  609. chapter 1.

  610. If you've

  611. got a page

  612. number,

  613. it's always

  614. a difficult

  615. one to find.

  616. If anyone

  617. has it,

  618. I'll call

  619. it out.

  620. it's on

  621. page

  622. 1217.

  623. 1217.

  624. Resurrection

  625. power.

  626. Overcoming

  627. suffering.

  628. Let's read

  629. chapter 1

  630. verse 3.

  631. 1 Peter

  632. praise be

  633. to the

  634. God and

  635. Father of

  636. our Lord

  637. Jesus Christ.

  638. In his

  639. great mercy,

  640. he has

  641. given us

  642. new birth

  643. into a

  644. living hope

  645. through the

  646. resurrection

  647. of Jesus

  648. Christ

  649. from the

  650. dead.

  651. Because of

  652. the resurrection

  653. of Jesus,

  654. we now

  655. have and

  656. we enter

  657. into not

  658. a dead

  659. hope,

  660. but a

  661. living hope.

  662. And you

  663. see what

  664. that hope

  665. is?

  666. Verse 4.

  667. An

  668. inheritance

  669. that can

  670. never

  671. perish,

  672. spoil,

  673. or fade,

  674. kept in

  675. heaven for

  676. you.

  677. It's the

  678. promise to

  679. us that

  680. physical death

  681. and suffering

  682. do not

  683. have the

  684. last word

  685. on our

  686. lives.

  687. Cancer,

  688. sickness,

  689. disability,

  690. and the

  691. grave is

  692. not the

  693. end.

  694. We have

  695. an inheritance

  696. that can

  697. never perish

  698. because of

  699. death,

  700. spoil because

  701. of our

  702. illness,

  703. fade because

  704. of suffering.

  705. It is

  706. kept for

  707. us.

  708. But more

  709. than that,

  710. God keeps

  711. us for

  712. that inheritance.

  713. Look at

  714. verse 5.

  715. who

  716. through

  717. faith,

  718. faith in

  719. the

  720. resurrection,

  721. who through

  722. faith are

  723. shielded by

  724. God's

  725. power until

  726. the coming

  727. of the

  728. salvation that

  729. is ready to

  730. be revealed

  731. in the last

  732. time.

  733. The power

  734. that raised

  735. Christ from

  736. the dead,

  737. the power

  738. that defeated

  739. death itself,

  740. the power

  741. that burst

  742. open the

  743. tomb and

  744. had Jesus

  745. walking

  746. again,

  747. is the

  748. same power

  749. that will

  750. shield us

  751. and keep

  752. us

  753. for heaven.

  754. God will

  755. see to it

  756. that nothing

  757. in our lives

  758. or in this

  759. world will

  760. keep us

  761. from our

  762. inheritance.

  763. There is no

  764. death,

  765. there is no

  766. suffering that

  767. can steal

  768. away what

  769. God has

  770. for his

  771. people.

  772. There is no

  773. sickness or

  774. disaster that

  775. can ruin

  776. what God

  777. has kept

  778. for us.

  779. Even when

  780. our own

  781. strength goes,

  782. even when

  783. our suffering

  784. shatters our

  785. faith and

  786. we doubt and

  787. we don't know

  788. whether we

  789. believe anymore,

  790. even in the

  791. darkest time

  792. of our lives,

  793. God's

  794. resurrection

  795. power will

  796. shield us

  797. and will

  798. keep us

  799. for eternity.

  800. Of course,

  801. that does not

  802. mean we are

  803. immune from

  804. suffering now.

  805. Look what it

  806. says in verse

  807. 6.

  808. In this

  809. you greatly

  810. rejoice,

  811. though now

  812. for a little

  813. while you

  814. may have had

  815. to suffer

  816. grief in

  817. all kinds

  818. of trials.

  819. you see,

  820. each one of

  821. us here,

  822. and some

  823. of you

  824. experience it

  825. today in

  826. more ways

  827. than others,

  828. that we

  829. live in a

  830. broken world

  831. which involves

  832. physical

  833. suffering and

  834. eventual

  835. death.

  836. But God's

  837. resurrection

  838. power will

  839. keep you.

  840. He will

  841. not let

  842. you fall.

  843. Through the

  844. resurrection,

  845. the door

  846. has been

  847. opened to

  848. life.

  849. It

  850. overcomes

  851. sin,

  852. giving us

  853. a new

  854. way to

  855. live.

  856. It

  857. overcomes

  858. suffering,

  859. giving us

  860. a power

  861. within to

  862. face

  863. everything

  864. that we

  865. may come

  866. up against.

  867. The

  868. resurrection

  869. reverses

  870. the consequences

  871. of death.

  872. Third,

  873. then,

  874. the resurrection

  875. life,

  876. overcoming

  877. separation.

  878. For this,

  879. we're going

  880. to go to

  881. 1 Thessalonians.

  882. So you

  883. need to go

  884. back a few

  885. pages.

  886. Again, if

  887. somebody has

  888. the page

  889. number, I'll

  890. call it out.

  891. 1 Thessalonians

    1 Thessalonians 4 chapter mention

  892. chapter 4.

  893. 1, 1, 8, 7.

  894. 1, 1, 8, 7.

  895. 1 Thessalonians

    1 Thessalonians 4 chapter mention

  896. chapter 4.

  897. And verse 13.

  898. 1, 1, 9.

  899. Resurrection

  900. life, overcoming

  901. our separation

  902. from God.

  903. Verse 13.

  904. Brothers and

  905. sisters, we do

  906. not want you to

  907. be ignorant about

  908. those who fall

  909. asleep, that is

  910. those who die,

  911. or to grieve

  912. like the rest of

  913. men who have

  914. no hope.

  915. You see, many

  916. people today

  917. have no hope.

  918. For them,

  919. death is

  920. the end.

  921. It's what

  922. separates us

  923. from family

  924. and friends.

  925. One writer

  926. put it like

  927. this.

  928. Life has

  929. no reasons.

  930. A struggling

  931. through the

  932. gloom, and

  933. the senseless

  934. end of it

  935. is the

  936. insult

  937. of the

  938. tomb.

  939. You see,

  940. for many,

  941. death is not

  942. only final,

  943. it makes a

  944. mockery

  945. of life.

  946. We live,

  947. we die,

  948. and that's

  949. it.

  950. But it's

  951. telling us

  952. that death

  953. is not

  954. the end.

  955. In fact,

  956. to die

  957. without

  958. Christ

  959. is not

  960. just

  961. hopeless,

  962. it is

  963. serious.

  964. have a look

  965. at 1 Thessalonians

    1 Thessalonians 5 chapter mention

  966. chapter 5,

  967. or sorry,

  968. 2 Thessalonians

    2 Thessalonians 1 chapter mention

  969. chapter 1.

  970. Just turn

  971. over a page,

  972. 2 Thessalonians

    2 Thessalonians 1:8

  973. chapter 1,

  974. verse 8.

  975. You see,

  976. for those

  977. who continue

  978. in their

  979. rebellion

  980. against God,

  981. for those

  982. who reject

  983. Christ's

  984. death

  985. and resurrection,

  986. who seek

  987. to live

  988. independently

  989. from Him,

  990. one day

  991. the risen

  992. Jesus

  993. will come

  994. again,

  995. and here's

  996. what it

  997. says,

  998. 2 Thessalonians

    2 Thessalonians 1:8

  999. chapter 1,

  1000. verse 8.

  1001. He,

  1002. that is

  1003. Jesus,

  1004. will punish

  1005. those

  1006. who do

  1007. not know

  1008. God

  1009. and do

  1010. not obey

  1011. the gospel

  1012. of our

  1013. Lord Jesus.

  1014. They will

  1015. be punished

  1016. with an

  1017. everlasting

  1018. destruction

  1019. and shut

  1020. out

  1021. from the

  1022. presence

  1023. of the

  1024. Lord

  1025. and from

  1026. the majesty

  1027. of His

  1028. power

  1029. on the

  1030. day He

  1031. comes

  1032. to be

  1033. glorified.

  1034. You see,

  1035. this separation

  1036. is eternal.

  1037. It is

  1038. hell.

  1039. It is to

  1040. have an

  1041. eternal

  1042. existence

  1043. without

  1044. God,

  1045. the loving

  1046. Creator.

  1047. It is a

  1048. life for

  1049. an eternity

  1050. without

  1051. love,

  1052. without

  1053. beauty,

  1054. without

  1055. justice,

  1056. without

  1057. happiness.

  1058. It's a

  1059. life without

  1060. God.

  1061. But

  1062. through

  1063. our

  1064. faith

  1065. in the

  1066. resurrection,

  1067. that

  1068. separation

  1069. does not

  1070. need to

  1071. be eternal.

  1072. That

  1073. separation

  1074. can be

  1075. corrected

  1076. and put

  1077. right and

  1078. we can

  1079. have life

  1080. with God

  1081. forever.

  1082. So go

  1083. back to

  1084. 1 Thessalonians

    1 Thessalonians 4 chapter mention

  1085. chapter 4

  1086. and verse

  1087. 14.

  1088. Look at

  1089. the difference,

  1090. the contrast

  1091. that there

  1092. is for

  1093. those whose

  1094. hope is

  1095. in Christ.

  1096. 1 Thessalonians

    1 Thessalonians 4:14

  1097. 4 verse

  1098. 14.

  1099. For we

  1100. believe that

  1101. Jesus died

  1102. and rose

  1103. again and

  1104. so we

  1105. believe that

  1106. God will

  1107. bring with

  1108. Jesus those

  1109. who have

  1110. fallen asleep

  1111. in him.

  1112. According to

  1113. the Lord's

  1114. own word,

  1115. we tell you

  1116. that we

  1117. who are

  1118. still alive,

  1119. who are

  1120. left till

  1121. the coming

  1122. of the

  1123. Lord,

  1124. will certainly

  1125. not precede

  1126. those who

  1127. have fallen

  1128. asleep.

  1129. For the

  1130. Lord himself

  1131. will come

  1132. down from

  1133. heaven with

  1134. a loud

  1135. command,

  1136. with the

  1137. voice of

  1138. the archangel

  1139. and with

  1140. the trumpet

  1141. call of

  1142. God and

  1143. the dead

  1144. in Christ

  1145. will rise

  1146. first.

  1147. After that,

  1148. we who are

  1149. still alive

  1150. and are

  1151. left will

  1152. be caught

  1153. up together

  1154. with them

  1155. in the

  1156. clouds to

  1157. meet the

  1158. Lord in

  1159. the air.

  1160. and so

  1161. we will

  1162. be with

  1163. the Lord

  1164. forever.

  1165. We will

  1166. be with

  1167. the Lord

  1168. forever.

  1169. Therefore,

  1170. encourage each

  1171. other with

  1172. these words.

  1173. To be

  1174. with the

  1175. Lord forever

  1176. is to

  1177. experience

  1178. life as

  1179. God intended.

  1180. It is

  1181. almost,

  1182. we get a

  1183. glimpse of

  1184. it back

  1185. in the

  1186. garden of

  1187. Eden before

  1188. sin entered

  1189. the world

  1190. where man

  1191. lived in

  1192. that perfect

  1193. harmony with

  1194. the world

  1195. and with

  1196. God,

  1197. where there

  1198. was no

  1199. sin,

  1200. where there

  1201. was no

  1202. suffering,

  1203. and when

  1204. there was

  1205. no separation

  1206. from the

  1207. creator and

  1208. the giver

  1209. of life.

  1210. The

  1211. resurrection

  1212. opens the

  1213. door

  1214. to life.

  1215. It is

  1216. what reverses

  1217. the effect

  1218. of death.

  1219. So on

  1220. this Easter

  1221. Sunday,

  1222. as we

  1223. remember the

  1224. Easter

  1225. rising,

  1226. we are to

  1227. proclaim

  1228. the true

  1229. Easter story.

  1230. The

  1231. proclamation

  1232. of 1916

  1233. has great

  1234. words and

  1235. we should be

  1236. very proud,

  1237. food,

  1238. but it

  1239. does not

  1240. have power.

  1241. It does

  1242. not have

  1243. power to

  1244. change the

  1245. greatest

  1246. problems of

  1247. sin,

  1248. suffering,

  1249. and

  1250. separation

  1251. from God.

  1252. Our faith

  1253. rests not

  1254. in men

  1255. who died,

  1256. but our

  1257. faith rests

  1258. in Jesus

  1259. Christ,

  1260. the God

  1261. man who

  1262. is risen

  1263. from the

  1264. dead.

  1265. we may

  1266. remember and

  1267. celebrate events

  1268. of a hundred

  1269. years ago,

  1270. but as a

  1271. risen people

  1272. today,

  1273. we are to

  1274. proclaim the

  1275. true historical

  1276. fact of the

  1277. resurrection.

  1278. This is

  1279. the hope

  1280. for our

  1281. lives,

  1282. for this

  1283. nation,

  1284. and for the

  1285. nations of

  1286. the world.

  1287. Let me

  1288. reread the

  1289. words we

  1290. started with

  1291. this morning.

  1292. 1 Corinthians

  1293. 15.

  1294. Brothers and

  1295. sisters,

  1296. I want to

  1297. remind you of

  1298. the gospel I

  1299. preach to

  1300. you.

  1301. Here is the

  1302. good news.

  1303. This is the

  1304. proclamation

  1305. which you

  1306. received,

  1307. and which you

  1308. have taken

  1309. your stand.

  1310. By this

  1311. gospel are

  1312. we saved.

  1313. If we hold

  1314. firmly to the

  1315. word we

  1316. preach to

  1317. you,

  1318. otherwise,

  1319. your faith

  1320. is in

  1321. vain.

  1322. For what

  1323. we received,

  1324. we now

  1325. pass on to

  1326. others of

  1327. first importance,

  1328. that Christ

  1329. died for our

  1330. sins,

  1331. according to

  1332. the scriptures,

  1333. that Christ

  1334. was buried,

  1335. and that

  1336. Christ was

  1337. raised from

  1338. the dead

  1339. on the

  1340. third day.

  1341. proclaim the

  1342. Easter story.

  1343. The risen

  1344. Jesus,

  1345. who reverses

  1346. the effects

  1347. of sin,

  1348. being enslaved

  1349. to sin,

  1350. cursed by

  1351. suffering,

  1352. separated from

  1353. God.

  1354. Know the

  1355. freedom,

  1356. and the

  1357. power,

  1358. and the

  1359. life of the

  1360. resurrection,

  1361. that bursts

  1362. open the

  1363. door from

  1364. death,

  1365. and takes

  1366. us into

  1367. a new

  1368. life,

  1369. now,

  1370. and for

  1371. all eternity.

  1372. Let's pray

  1373. together.

  1374. Amen.
