  1. Word. The body is a unit, though it is made up of many parts, and though all its parts are many,

  2. they form one body. So it is with Christ. For we were all baptized by one spirit into one body,

  3. whether Jews or Greeks, slave or free, and we were all given the one spirit to drink.

  4. Now the body is not made up of one part, but of many. If the foot should say, because I am not a hand,

  5. I do not belong to the body, it would not for that reason cease to be part of the body.

  6. And if the ear should say, because I am not an eye, I do not belong to the body,

  7. it would not for that reason cease to be part of the body. If the whole body were an eye,

  8. where would the sense of hearing be? If the whole body were an ear, where would the sense of smell be?

  9. But in fact, God has arranged the parts of the body, every one of them, just as he wanted them to be.

  10. If they were all one part, where would the body be? As it is, there are many parts, but one body.

  11. The eye cannot say to the hand, I don't need you. And the head cannot say to the feet, I don't need you.

  12. On the contrary, those parts of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable.

  13. And the parts we think are less honourable, we treat with special honour,

  14. and the parts that are unpresentable are treated with special modesty,

  15. while our presentable parts need no special treatment.

  16. But God has combined the members of the body and has given greater honour to the parts that lacked it,

  17. so that there should be no division in the body,

  18. but that its parts should have equal concern for each other.

  19. If one part suffers, every part suffers with it.

  20. If one part is honoured, every part rejoices with it.

  21. Now you are the body of Christ,

  22. and each one of you is a part of it.

  23. And in the church, God has appointed first of all apostles,

  24. second prophets, third teachers,

  25. then workers of miracles,

  26. also those having gifts of healing,

  27. those able to help others,

  28. those with gifts of administration,

  29. and those speaking in different kinds of tongues.

  30. Are all apostles?

  31. Are all prophets?

  32. Are all teachers?

  33. Do all work miracles?

  34. Do all have gifts of healing?

  35. Do all speak in tongues?

  36. Do all interpret?

  37. But eagerly desire the greater gifts?

  38. Well, the church is a body,

  39. and there are many parts,

  40. and one of those parts is Ralph,

  41. and he's going to come and preach.

  42. So, over to you, Ralph.

  43. Thanks very much.

  44. Thank you.

  45. Now we come to hear your word preached.

  46. And Lord Jesus, I ask that your spirit would take your word and cause it to be wedded deeply in all of our hearts to the glory of God the Father.

  47. Amen.

  48. Amen.

  49. Amen.

  50. Amen.

  51. Amen.

  52. In just a few weeks, our very near neighbours in Britain are going to vote in a referendum.

  53. And a referendum is this, whether to stay in or whether to leave the European Union.

  54. This potential British exit is more commonly known or referred to in the media as Brexit.

  55. And it's a defining moment for both the United Kingdom and for Europe.

  56. Will one of the big countries of the EU choose to leave or will it stay?

  57. So, as the British and the Northern Irish are munching over their cornflakes on Thursday the 23rd of June, it will be time for them to decide.

  58. Now many folks, well, they feel like that they're more British.

  59. British and yet want to remain part of this diverse body of nations.

  60. While others, also feeling British, think it's time to opt out.

  61. As they're really too different.

  62. They're on a different track to the rest of everyone else.

  63. And they no longer want to be part of the club of the European Union.

  64. Now you're wondering, well, what does this have to do with the text that's before us this morning?

  65. Well, I think in many ways the local gathering of Christians in the Church of Carn was facing a similar kind of decision point.

  66. Similar issues of identity and belonging.

  67. Just like when different countries come together, I think the gathering of these different Christians in Carn was starting to produce infighting.

  68. It was producing factions.

  69. It was producing doubts about the whole project of being a church.

  70. So instead of finding order and a caring community when you went to the church in Carn,

  71. it seems like it had become really a pit of one upmanship.

  72. Everyone contending for themselves.

  73. It almost feels like every single member was in conflict with every other member.

  74. They were just tearing each other apart.

  75. A body at war with itself.

  76. And I'm sure you've noticed that.

  77. I mean, we've gone through 1 Corinthians over a long time.

  78. But just to remind you, if we go back to chapter 1, right at the beginning,

  79. verses 10 to 12 in chapter 1, Paul, he's writing to them.

  80. He says,

  81. What I mean is this.

  82. One of you says,

  83. Well, I follow Paul.

  84. And another,

  85. I follow Apollos.

  86. And another,

  87. I follow Cephas.

  88. That's Peter.

  89. Still another,

  90. I follow Christ.

  91. And as we go through the pages,

  92. as we flick through,

  93. there's just example and example of this kind of factious behavior in the church.

  94. Again, one of the most recent examples we looked at was in chapter 11 and verse 18.

  95. In the first place,

  96. talking of the Lord's table,

  97. I hear that when you come together as a church,

  98. there are divisions among you.

  99. And to some extent,

  100. I believe it.

  101. Division within the church was common.

  102. The church really is taking a battery.

  103. And whether it's being the Lord's table,

  104. or in this case,

  105. it's really about the use of gifts,

  106. or deciding which leader it's going to follow,

  107. what kind of theology it was going to embrace.

  108. It was just leading to division and argument.

  109. And I believe in these verses before us this morning,

  110. we get a sense of the real damage that that does to the body,

  111. the real damage that does to the church,

  112. this constant infighting and issues.

  113. And some folks,

  114. well, they were feeling disillusioned,

  115. and were maybe feeling a little bit inferior,

  116. and struggling,

  117. while others were pushing the vulnerable,

  118. members out of the church.

  119. So Paul has a big task in his hand,

  120. doesn't he?

  121. To correct some of this.

  122. And to combat this damage,

  123. the church needs to see

  124. what the church is.

  125. The church needs to see what the church is.

  126. The oneness that they have in Christ.

  127. A oneness that is sustained

  128. by the diversity of members

  129. and by the diversity of gifts.

  130. And I guess if that's one thing to take away from this morning,

  131. it's that.

  132. It's that idea that

  133. the oneness that we have

  134. is sustained by a diversity of members

  135. and a diversity of gifts.

  136. The oneness in Christ that we have.

  137. And it's in this context

  138. that Paul introduces the idea

  139. of a physical body.

  140. Look with me at verse 12.

  141. The body, he says,

  142. is a unit.

  143. Though it is made up of many parts,

  144. and though all the parts are many,

  145. they form one body.

  146. So Paul is going to help them

  147. work through this issue

  148. by using an illustration.

  149. It's the illustration of the body.

  150. Think about your body.

  151. Well, it's just one body, isn't it?

  152. You have one body,

  153. but it's not just body.

  154. What I mean is this.

  155. The body, the one body,

  156. is itself made up of different parts.

  157. You see, it's the diversity of parts

  158. that produce a unified body.

  159. It's one body, many parts.

  160. Or we can look at it the other way, can't we?

  161. We can say many parts and one body.

  162. And Paul is asking the Corinthians

  163. to do this here, isn't he?

  164. He says,

  165. when you think of the one,

  166. well, I want you to think of the many.

  167. And when you're thinking of the many,

  168. well, I want you to think of the one.

  169. Do you see that?

  170. You can't separate the oneness

  171. of the church body

  172. from the manyness of the church body.

  173. This is how it is with Christ.

  174. Christ has one body,

  175. his church on earth.

  176. Each of us has enjoyed

  177. the same baptism in the Holy Spirit

  178. into one body,

  179. whether we're Irish or British

  180. or Northern Irish

  181. or young or old,

  182. whether we're leading up the front

  183. or whether we're singing at the back.

  184. Verse 13,

  185. for we were all baptized

  186. by one Spirit into one body,

  187. whether Jews or Greeks,

  188. slave or free,

  189. and we were all given

  190. the one Spirit to drink.

  191. You see,

  192. there are to be no tiers

  193. within the church.

  194. The church isn't structured

  195. in that way,

  196. kind of hierarchically.

  197. There's going to be no tiers.

  198. We are not to divide the body.

  199. We're not to divide the church

  200. along ethnic lines.

  201. We're not to divide

  202. as long lines of, say,

  203. clergy and laity,

  204. that kind of idea.

  205. We're not to divide

  206. the church body

  207. by saying,

  208. well, they're spirit-filled people

  209. and they're,

  210. well, they're into the Word

  211. and they're kind of Word-filled.

  212. That's not how we're

  213. to divide the body.

  214. There are no first

  215. and second tier Christians.

  216. We are all one in Christ.

  217. But Paul also says

  218. we must not think

  219. of the church

  220. as being made up

  221. of just one type of Christian.

  222. Yes, there are no tiers

  223. of Christians or Christianity,

  224. but that doesn't mean

  225. that there's no variety.

  226. And if we go on

  227. to the next verse,

  228. we see that.

  229. Now, the body

  230. is not made up

  231. of one part,

  232. but of many.

  233. You see, the body

  234. is not just one thing,

  235. but rather it's many things.

  236. We speak of one body

  237. and I'm going to repeat this a lot,

  238. but I want you to understand

  239. and hear from God's Word.

  240. But when we do,

  241. when we think of the one,

  242. we need to think of the many.

  243. We need to think of the variety

  244. that has been pulled together

  245. to make the one body.

  246. The key thing in this then

  247. is really who has pulled the parts

  248. together to make the one body.

  249. Who has done this?

  250. Who has designed?

  251. Who has made this one body?

  252. And Paul repeats this

  253. a number of times

  254. again and again in the passage.

  255. Now, we're just going to

  256. scan through here,

  257. but notice verse 18.

  258. Start of verse 18.

  259. But in fact,

  260. God has arranged

  261. the parts of the body.

  262. Skip down with me

  263. to verse 24,

  264. in the middle part of 24.

  265. It says,

  266. but God has combined

  267. the members of the body

  268. and given greater honor

  269. to the parts that lacked it.

  270. And then finally,

  271. verse 28.

  272. Verse 28.

  273. And in the church,

  274. God has appointed.

  275. Now, let's take that in

  276. for a moment.

  277. What it says,

  278. across those three verses,

  279. is that it is God

  280. who arranges,

  281. it is God

  282. who combines,

  283. and it is God

  284. who appoints

  285. in the body.

  286. God does the arranging,

  287. God does the composing,

  288. God does the appointing.

  289. And when we speak

  290. of our lives

  291. and when we speak

  292. of the church,

  293. we don't often think

  294. in those categories,

  295. do we?

  296. We like to take

  297. the spotlight

  298. that Paul is shining

  299. on God

  300. and God's work,

  301. and we like to

  302. creak it over

  303. a little bit

  304. and put it

  305. somewhere else.

  306. And what that looks like

  307. is, well,

  308. we constantly just talk

  309. about our choice

  310. in coming to Jesus.

  311. We talk about

  312. our choice

  313. in coming to this church.

  314. It was our choice

  315. to pick our seat

  316. this morning.

  317. It was our choice

  318. about what we did

  319. during the tea and coffee

  320. and who we were

  321. willing to speak to.

  322. It was going to be

  323. our decision

  324. during this week

  325. how much time

  326. that we are going

  327. to give to other people.

  328. You see,

  329. because it has to fit,

  330. of course,

  331. doesn't it,

  332. into our schedule.

  333. And we tend to pick

  334. and to choose

  335. based on our preferences,

  336. our preferences

  337. for people.

  338. Oh, they're great folks

  339. and, well,

  340. I'm pretty awesome myself.

  341. So, you know what?

  342. I'm going to help them

  343. out this week

  344. with mining their children.

  345. Well, you know,

  346. because they'll return

  347. the favour

  348. and that's cool.

  349. We get on really well.

  350. Isn't that great?

  351. And it is great.

  352. I'm not to cast aside

  353. all that we do

  354. for one another.

  355. But again,

  356. where is the emphasis?

  357. What are we saying?

  358. You see,

  359. in our hearts,

  360. in our hearts,

  361. the tendency

  362. is to treat

  363. this church thing

  364. like an

  365. a la carte menu.

  366. You know,

  367. when you go to the restaurant

  368. and you can kind of

  369. pick and choose

  370. from each course.

  371. Pick and choose

  372. as it suits.

  373. That's okay.

  374. Have we forgotten?

  375. Have we forgotten?

  376. Paul is asking,

  377. have we forgotten

  378. that the gathering

  379. is Jesus' gathering?

  380. The people,

  381. the people are arranged

  382. in the body

  383. by Christ

  384. and for Him.

  385. Is this not

  386. the house of God

  387. filled with the people of God?

  388. This is the new humanity

  389. of Christ

  390. where He has shed

  391. His own precious blood

  392. to save us

  393. and to bring us

  394. into this family,

  395. to bring us

  396. into this body,

  397. to be part of the people

  398. of God.

  399. You see,

  400. the emphasis

  401. is on

  402. He has chosen

  403. and we,

  404. we would do well

  405. to respect

  406. His choice

  407. in the matter.

  408. Will we turn away

  409. from those

  410. that Christ welcomes?

  411. This is what Paul

  412. was calling the church

  413. to embrace

  414. and calling the church

  415. to understand

  416. about the church.

  417. Their identity

  418. as both a united

  419. and yet a diverse body.

  420. But it was too easy,

  421. it seems,

  422. for the church

  423. in Corinth

  424. to subdivide.

  425. In Corinth,

  426. it seems to me

  427. almost as you read

  428. through it,

  429. that every time

  430. an issue arose

  431. that things began

  432. to splinter

  433. and fray

  434. and some would start

  435. to opt out.

  436. They would start

  437. to stand away

  438. from being part

  439. of the church.

  440. Individuals,

  441. they didn't feel

  442. like they fitted in anymore.

  443. They were feeling

  444. maybe somewhat inferior

  445. for some of the others

  446. in what they were seeing

  447. and this disconnect

  448. was starting to happen.

  449. We see that

  450. in the next verses,

  451. 15 and 16.

  452. If the foot should say,

  453. well,

  454. because I'm not a hand,

  455. well,

  456. I don't belong

  457. to the body.

  458. It would not,

  459. for that reason,

  460. cease to be part

  461. of the body.

  462. And if the ear

  463. should say,

  464. well,

  465. because I'm not an eye,

  466. I do not belong

  467. to the body.

  468. It would not,

  469. for that reason,

  470. cease to be part

  471. of the body.

  472. You see,

  473. often comparison

  474. is a thief,

  475. isn't it?

  476. Comparison is a thief

  477. of joy.

  478. Comparison with others

  479. causes this discontentment

  480. to set in.

  481. And I'm not,

  482. I'm not like that person.

  483. Do I fit?

  484. You know,

  485. I don't really like it

  486. in the church

  487. because I just,

  488. I don't seem to be

  489. like anyone else.

  490. It's easier then

  491. just to step back,

  492. to opt out,

  493. to insulate yourself,

  494. even ultimately

  495. to leave.

  496. But the word of God

  497. is clear,

  498. isn't it?

  499. As God speaks

  500. through Paul

  501. as he's writing scripture,

  502. the second half

  503. of verse 15

  504. and the second half

  505. of verse 16.

  506. You see,

  507. if you didn't choose

  508. to be part of the body,

  509. it's not just the case

  510. of simply opting out.

  511. You can't just declare,

  512. well,

  513. I'm not part of the body,

  514. and then cease

  515. to be part of the body

  516. because,

  517. again,

  518. it's God

  519. who was chosen.

  520. The word of God

  521. that says

  522. that such faulty

  523. thinking about the body

  524. is actually

  525. quite comical.

  526. You know,

  527. there is humour

  528. in the Bible.

  529. Maybe we don't

  530. appreciate it.

  531. Verse 17.

  532. If the whole body

  533. were an eye,

  534. where would the sense

  535. of hearing be?

  536. If the whole body

  537. were an ear,

  538. where would the sense

  539. of smell be?

  540. Imagine a body

  541. that was just an eye.

  542. An eye,

  543. the size of a body,

  544. and it was just an eye.

  545. And imagine you

  546. driving down to school

  547. tomorrow to drop

  548. the kids off,

  549. and there on the cycle

  550. lane is the eye.

  551. Boing,

  552. boing,

  553. boing.

  554. Person-sized eye

  555. bouncing along.

  556. It would just be,

  557. it would just be ludicrous.

  558. How strange and bizarre

  559. to see a body

  560. that was just an eye.

  561. Or,

  562. as we walk out

  563. this morning,

  564. there's this leg.

  565. It's about the size

  566. of a person.

  567. And it's just kind of

  568. slithering around

  569. the car park.

  570. You know,

  571. we'd be,

  572. well,

  573. okay,

  574. that's weird.

  575. Maybe it's part

  576. of a bigger body

  577. or something,

  578. you know,

  579. where did that come from?

  580. Ludicrous,

  581. ludicrous imagery.

  582. And the same way,

  583. Paul is trying

  584. to get us

  585. to think here,

  586. a body doesn't

  587. look like that.

  588. A body doesn't

  589. behave like that.

  590. You see,

  591. we shouldn't want

  592. to opt ourselves out

  593. when we get discouraged

  594. and disillusioned

  595. with church

  596. like somewhere

  597. in Corinth.

  598. And that is a very

  599. real part

  600. of church life.

  601. Life together

  602. does highlight

  603. difference.

  604. It does bring

  605. tension.

  606. It can bring

  607. division.

  608. This is very real,

  609. but it's our reaction

  610. to it and our

  611. understanding of what

  612. church is that's

  613. going to help.

  614. We might find it

  615. hard at times

  616. and our hearts

  617. do begin to whisper,

  618. I don't belong.

  619. We might struggle

  620. when we look around

  621. in this church

  622. and we don't see

  623. many others

  624. that are kind

  625. of like us.

  626. Maybe I'm the

  627. only teenager here,

  628. so why bother?

  629. Surely I can just

  630. follow Jesus on my

  631. own.

  632. Can't I have Christ

  633. without the church?

  634. Isn't that a solution?

  635. Can't I just kind

  636. of opt out

  637. and do my own

  638. thing?

  639. No.

  640. No, Paul says,

  641. verse 18,

  642. but in fact,

  643. God has arranged

  644. the parts in the

  645. body,

  646. every one of them,

  647. just as he wanted

  648. them to be.

  649. Again,

  650. if you were all

  651. one part,

  652. where would the

  653. body be?

  654. As it is,

  655. there are many

  656. parts,

  657. but one

  658. body.

  659. You get it?

  660. You get it?

  661. God has arranged

  662. it.

  663. It is Christ's

  664. body.

  665. It's not your

  666. body.

  667. Instead of

  668. lamenting who

  669. you are not,

  670. we need to

  671. switch our

  672. thinking around.

  673. The diversity

  674. that God

  675. brings about

  676. in this church

  677. is achieved

  678. through you

  679. being here.

  680. Did you ever

  681. consider that?

  682. That you being

  683. here is what

  684. makes this

  685. church,

  686. Cargoline Baptist

  687. Church,

  688. a body.

  689. Your diversity,

  690. even if you feel

  691. like you're the

  692. only one,

  693. the only one

  694. that's like you,

  695. that is

  696. helping to

  697. make this

  698. a body.

  699. And that has

  700. amazing implications.

  701. It means that

  702. our decisions

  703. about following

  704. Christ,

  705. being part of

  706. his church,

  707. should be

  708. transformed.

  709. And we should

  710. think very

  711. carefully that

  712. when we begin

  713. to opt

  714. ourselves out,

  715. when we begin

  716. to separate,

  717. and we can

  718. blame others,

  719. and yes,

  720. life is

  721. difficult,

  722. church life

  723. is difficult,

  724. but really we

  725. are taking

  726. away from

  727. the diversity

  728. that Christ

  729. has put

  730. in place.

  731. That is no

  732. small issue.

  733. To maintain

  734. the unity

  735. of the spirit

  736. is what we

  737. are called

  738. to.

  739. It is no

  740. small issue

  741. to separate

  742. yourselves

  743. from what

  744. God has

  745. put together.

  746. You may

  747. feel weak

  748. and limited,

  749. but God

  750. has put you

  751. here today.

  752. You are

  753. the body

  754. of Christ.

  755. Now,

  756. this diversity

  757. that each

  758. believer

  759. brings to

  760. the body

  761. has another

  762. important

  763. consequence.

  764. It not only

  765. affects how

  766. we think

  767. of ourselves

  768. and how

  769. we think

  770. of our

  771. place

  772. within the

  773. body,

  774. but it

  775. should also

  776. affect how

  777. we relate

  778. to the

  779. other parts

  780. of the body

  781. and how

  782. we think

  783. of others.

  784. Because there

  785. was another

  786. aspect to

  787. this,

  788. and that

  789. was the

  790. issue of

  791. superiority.

  792. Verse 21,

  793. the eye

  794. cannot say

  795. to the hand,

  796. I don't

  797. need you,

  798. and the

  799. head cannot

  800. say to the

  801. feet,

  802. I don't

  803. need you.

  804. You see,

  805. while some

  806. were feeling

  807. maybe inferior

  808. and maybe

  809. discontented

  810. and were

  811. opting out

  812. because they

  813. feel like

  814. they didn't

  815. belong,

  816. there were

  817. the others

  818. in the

  819. church that

  820. were kind

  821. of opening

  822. the door

  823. and watching

  824. them leave

  825. and giving

  826. them a kick

  827. up the

  828. pants on

  829. the way

  830. out.

  831. That was

  832. their

  833. approach

  834. to diversity.

  835. The attitude

  836. in that case

  837. really is one

  838. of self-sufficiency

  839. of arrogance,

  840. you know,

  841. I am the

  842. all-seeing

  843. eye.

  844. I have

  845. no need

  846. of you,

  847. lowly hand.

  848. I am

  849. the all-knowing

  850. head.

  851. Be gone,

  852. little feet,

  853. be gone,

  854. out the

  855. door.

  856. And again,

  857. if it wasn't

  858. so tragic,

  859. we could

  860. just laugh

  861. at the image

  862. that Paul

  863. paints for

  864. us of

  865. this warring

  866. body that's

  867. trying to

  868. dismember

  869. parts of

  870. itself and

  871. thinking by

  872. getting rid

  873. of these

  874. bits that

  875. somehow a

  876. better body

  877. or a

  878. more real

  879. body.

  880. But make

  881. no mistake,

  882. this behavior

  883. and this

  884. attitude

  885. was absolutely

  886. tragic.

  887. Absolutely

  888. tragic.

  889. Look at

  890. who was at

  891. the receiving

  892. end of this

  893. treatment,

  894. verse 22.

  895. On the

  896. contrary,

  897. those parts

  898. of the body

  899. that seem

  900. to be

  901. weaker

  902. are indispensable.

  903. And the

  904. parts that we

  905. think are

  906. less honorable,

  907. we treat

  908. with special

  909. honor.

  910. and the

  911. parts that

  912. are

  913. unpresentable

  914. are treated

  915. with special

  916. modesty,

  917. while our

  918. presentable

  919. parts need

  920. no special

  921. treatment.

  922. Do you see

  923. who was at

  924. the receiving

  925. end?

  926. Paul talks

  927. about the

  928. weaker members

  929. of the body.

  930. He says the

  931. less honored

  932. and the ones

  933. in need of

  934. special treatment

  935. protection.

  936. these were

  937. the ones

  938. who were

  939. being lined

  940. up at

  941. the door

  942. for special

  943. attention

  944. by the

  945. super gifted,

  946. the up the

  947. front,

  948. the loud

  949. and the

  950. large crowd.

  951. But the

  952. special attention

  953. and special

  954. treatment was

  955. this,

  956. consignment

  957. to the

  958. thanks but

  959. no thanks

  960. pile in the

  961. church.

  962. Isn't that

  963. tragic?

  964. Doesn't that

  965. make your

  966. heart hurt?

  967. But Paul

  968. is clear

  969. here,

  970. isn't he?

  971. The parts

  972. that we

  973. see as

  974. weak,

  975. as lacking

  976. honor,

  977. and in

  978. need of

  979. special help,

  980. how are we

  981. to treat

  982. them?

  983. Where to

  984. see them

  985. as

  986. indispensable?

  987. They are

  988. to be given

  989. special honor.

  990. They are

  991. to be given

  992. extra dignity.

  993. You see,

  994. our natural

  995. instincts,

  996. our sinful

  997. instincts,

  998. if we put

  999. it like

  1000. that,

  1001. is to

  1002. divide and

  1003. to shun,

  1004. to just

  1005. want more

  1006. and more

  1007. like me

  1008. and less

  1009. and less

  1010. like the

  1011. other.

  1012. And Paul

  1013. says to

  1014. bind up.

  1015. Where we

  1016. want to

  1017. discard,

  1018. Paul is

  1019. saying to

  1020. pull

  1021. closer.

  1022. The author

  1023. is Kevin

  1024. DeYoung and

  1025. Ted

  1026. Cluck,

  1027. co-authored a

  1028. book a

  1029. number of

  1030. years back

  1031. called Why

  1032. We Love

  1033. the Church.

  1034. It's a

  1035. great title.

  1036. It's a good

  1037. book.

  1038. I read it

  1039. recently.

  1040. Ted Cluck,

  1041. one of the

  1042. co-authors,

  1043. he writes in

  1044. response to

  1045. the recent

  1046. trend in

  1047. Christianity

  1048. to try and

  1049. divorce,

  1050. and I

  1051. kind of

  1052. talked about

  1053. that,

  1054. to divorce

  1055. Jesus from

  1056. the church,

  1057. to kind of

  1058. distinguish

  1059. between the

  1060. two.

  1061. And the

  1062. argument and

  1063. the criticism,

  1064. and there's

  1065. merit in this

  1066. at times,

  1067. that's made,

  1068. is that

  1069. churches are,

  1070. by and large,

  1071. inward-looking

  1072. social clubs

  1073. that are more

  1074. concerned with

  1075. performance and

  1076. appearance than

  1077. living out the

  1078. Christian life.

  1079. And there is

  1080. some merit to

  1081. that criticism.

  1082. It's a real

  1083. criticism, and we

  1084. need to appreciate

  1085. that as churches.

  1086. But the answer

  1087. given by those in

  1088. what is called the

  1089. Emergent Church

  1090. Movement is that

  1091. in order to

  1092. follow Jesus

  1093. fully, we need

  1094. to leave the

  1095. church.

  1096. Do you see?

  1097. Because you

  1098. can have Christ

  1099. without the

  1100. church.

  1101. And what does

  1102. that look like?

  1103. Well, they

  1104. suggest all kinds

  1105. of variants.

  1106. One, you know,

  1107. you might just

  1108. meet up with

  1109. Christians at

  1110. Starbucks, or

  1111. on the golf

  1112. course, or out

  1113. on the ocean.

  1114. And that's

  1115. cool, where two

  1116. or three are

  1117. gathered.

  1118. There I am in

  1119. the midst of

  1120. us, the midst

  1121. of you.

  1122. Jesus is there.

  1123. We have a

  1124. church.

  1125. We hold each

  1126. other accountable.

  1127. We do kind of

  1128. cool stuff together.

  1129. We do kind of

  1130. social action stuff

  1131. and really care for

  1132. the body.

  1133. That way, you

  1134. know, we're able

  1135. to better serve

  1136. each other

  1137. organically and

  1138. do some good in

  1139. the world.

  1140. Now, Kevin

  1141. Young and Ted

  1142. Cluck are

  1143. regular, boring,

  1144. everyday kind of

  1145. church guys.

  1146. And one of the

  1147. things they do

  1148. in the book is

  1149. look at examples

  1150. of what this

  1151. regular and

  1152. somewhat mundane

  1153. and somewhat

  1154. plodding, long

  1155. haul church life

  1156. looks like when

  1157. it's been

  1158. properly, when

  1159. it's properly

  1160. being the body

  1161. of Christ.

  1162. And so they

  1163. look at some

  1164. other examples

  1165. in response.

  1166. And Cluck

  1167. speaks of the

  1168. church where

  1169. his brother-in-law

  1170. goes to, college

  1171. church in

  1172. Wheaton, Illinois.

  1173. And when he

  1174. went there, it's

  1175. in a kind of a

  1176. posh area, you

  1177. know, he

  1178. initially saw

  1179. it as one,

  1180. and this is a

  1181. quote, big

  1182. affluent churches

  1183. in that they

  1184. only care about

  1185. catering to the

  1186. whims of their

  1187. affluent clientele.

  1188. So they're only

  1189. kind of looking

  1190. out, that was

  1191. his perception

  1192. of the area and

  1193. what the church

  1194. building looked

  1195. like.

  1196. But then he

  1197. was convicted

  1198. of his

  1199. judgmental attitude

  1200. when he started

  1201. to speak with

  1202. his brother-in-law.

  1203. Because his

  1204. brother-in-law

  1205. told them about

  1206. this disabilities

  1207. ministry that

  1208. they had in the

  1209. church called

  1210. STARS.

  1211. It's a ministry,

  1212. and this is a

  1213. larger church than

  1214. us, so don't

  1215. be put off.

  1216. It's providing

  1217. various help to

  1218. hundreds of

  1219. people in the

  1220. Wheaton area.

  1221. And it started

  1222. back in the

  1223. 1960s by a

  1224. woman in the

  1225. church named

  1226. Jean.

  1227. And Jean,

  1228. God bless her,

  1229. she saw a

  1230. child with a

  1231. developmental

  1232. disability and

  1233. was saddened

  1234. that there was

  1235. nothing in the

  1236. church that

  1237. was helping to

  1238. bridge to that

  1239. child.

  1240. And so Jean,

  1241. she lobbied the

  1242. elders, and she

  1243. was eventually

  1244. given a Sunday

  1245. school classroom to

  1246. start something with

  1247. this one child.

  1248. And today that

  1249. church serves 80

  1250. families in and

  1251. outside of the

  1252. church body.

  1253. They provide

  1254. disability-friendly

  1255. church events,

  1256. they provide

  1257. respite care for

  1258. parents, and they

  1259. give financial

  1260. assistance.

  1261. Clark tells us

  1262. that the ministry's

  1263. key verses are

  1264. these.

  1265. 1 Corinthians

    1 Corinthians 12 chapter mention

  1266. chapter 12

  1267. and verse 21

  1268. and 22.

  1269. Think of what

  1270. they're doing and

  1271. listen to these

  1272. words.

  1273. The eye cannot

  1274. say to the

  1275. hand, I don't

  1276. need you, and

  1277. the head cannot

  1278. say to the feet,

  1279. I don't need

  1280. you.

  1281. On the contrary,

  1282. those parts of

  1283. the body that

  1284. seem to be

  1285. weaker are

  1286. indispensable.

  1287. Isn't that

  1288. beautiful, folks?

  1289. Isn't that

  1290. beautiful to

  1291. think of the

  1292. work of the

  1293. body?

  1294. You know, when

  1295. it talks a few

  1296. verses later about

  1297. the presentable

  1298. parts and the

  1299. unpresentable

  1300. parts, I'm not

  1301. a Greek expert,

  1302. and I rarely go

  1303. for this kind of

  1304. thing, but the

  1305. underlying Greek

  1306. phrase or our

  1307. idea is this,

  1308. it's talking about

  1309. those that are

  1310. elegant in figure

  1311. and graceful.

  1312. Elegant in figure

  1313. and graceful.

  1314. So that's who the

  1315. presentable are.

  1316. And we can kind

  1317. of picture that,

  1318. can't we, being

  1319. elegant in figure

  1320. and graceful.

  1321. Those that need

  1322. no special

  1323. treatment, that

  1324. can carry

  1325. themselves around

  1326. without any

  1327. problems.

  1328. So then we can

  1329. begin to understand

  1330. what the

  1331. unpresentable are

  1332. like.

  1333. They're those

  1334. that are

  1335. inelegant.

  1336. Those that are

  1337. ungraceful.

  1338. Those that

  1339. naturally, and

  1340. not in a bad

  1341. way, we would

  1342. just notice them

  1343. and say, well,

  1344. they're a little

  1345. bit clumsy.

  1346. They're maybe

  1347. even somewhat

  1348. embarrassing in

  1349. public life.

  1350. We just notice

  1351. they're struggling

  1352. a bit.

  1353. And do you

  1354. know that in

  1355. our church, there

  1356. are people who

  1357. at times feel

  1358. like that?

  1359. In our church,

  1360. that feel

  1361. unpresentable?

  1362. Those that are

  1363. suffering from

  1364. depression at

  1365. times, from

  1366. lifelong disability,

  1367. developmental

  1368. delays as

  1369. they're growing

  1370. up, neurological

  1371. issues, physical

  1372. limitations, social

  1373. limitations.

  1374. There are people

  1375. that come here

  1376. that find all of

  1377. this quite hard.

  1378. Those people,

  1379. Paul says,

  1380. are worthy of

  1381. our special

  1382. treatment.

  1383. They are a

  1384. special and

  1385. altogether

  1386. worthy part

  1387. of the body.

  1388. Pull them

  1389. closer, God

  1390. says.

  1391. God is

  1392. really telling

  1393. us through

  1394. his word this

  1395. morning to

  1396. stop.

  1397. Where we

  1398. could decide to

  1399. opt ourselves

  1400. out or because

  1401. we don't fit in

  1402. and where we

  1403. want to opt

  1404. others out.

  1405. God says

  1406. stop.

  1407. He says stop

  1408. dividing.

  1409. Stop judging

  1410. one another.

  1411. Stop the

  1412. envy.

  1413. Stop the

  1414. condescending,

  1415. looking down on

  1416. others.

  1417. Be a body

  1418. with all of

  1419. its parts.

  1420. And follow

  1421. me as we

  1422. read through

  1423. the verses

  1424. from the

  1425. middle of

  1426. 24 down

  1427. to 26.

  1428. But God

  1429. has combined

  1430. the members

  1431. of the body

  1432. and has

  1433. given greater

  1434. honor to

  1435. the parts

  1436. that lacked

  1437. it so that

  1438. there should

  1439. be no

  1440. division in

  1441. the body

  1442. but that

  1443. its parts

  1444. should have

  1445. special concern

  1446. for each

  1447. other.

  1448. If one

  1449. part suffers,

  1450. every part

  1451. suffers with

  1452. it.

  1453. If one

  1454. part is

  1455. honored,

  1456. every part

  1457. rejoices

  1458. with it.

  1459. So how

  1460. do we

  1461. stop?

  1462. How do

  1463. we address

  1464. this problem

  1465. of division

  1466. in the

  1467. body?

  1468. Well,

  1469. a surprising

  1470. part of

  1471. the answer

  1472. is actually

  1473. by embracing

  1474. more diversity

  1475. where diversity

  1476. can bring

  1477. tension

  1478. that lead

  1479. to division.

  1480. We need

  1481. a kind of

  1482. a God-given

  1483. diversity

  1484. that sows

  1485. seeds

  1486. that are

  1487. going to

  1488. lead to

  1489. unity.

  1490. We saw

  1491. that last

  1492. week in

  1493. verses 4 to

  1494. 7.

  1495. There are

  1496. different kinds

  1497. of gifts

  1498. but the

  1499. same

  1500. spirit.

  1501. There are

  1502. different kinds

  1503. of service

  1504. but the

  1505. same

  1506. Lord.

  1507. There are

  1508. different kinds

  1509. of working

  1510. but the

  1511. same God

  1512. works all

  1513. of them

  1514. in all

  1515. men.

  1516. Now to

  1517. each one

  1518. the

  1519. manifestation

  1520. of the

  1521. spirit

  1522. is given

  1523. for the

  1524. common

  1525. good.

  1526. You see

  1527. spiritual

  1528. gifts

  1529. are given

  1530. by God

  1531. for the

  1532. good of

  1533. the church

  1534. and Paul

  1535. is going

  1536. to tell

  1537. us again

  1538. that

  1539. Christ

  1540. brings

  1541. both unity

  1542. and diversity

  1543. that they

  1544. fit together

  1545. and that

  1546. when we

  1547. think of

  1548. the one

  1549. we should

  1550. think of

  1551. the many.

  1552. I thought

  1553. you'd be

  1554. ready to

  1555. echo that

  1556. back at

  1557. this stage.

  1558. Verses

  1559. 27 to

  1560. 30.

  1561. Now you

  1562. are the

  1563. body of

  1564. Christ

  1565. one body

  1566. and each

  1567. one of you

  1568. is a part

  1569. of it

  1570. the many

  1571. and in

  1572. the church

  1573. God

  1574. is appointed

  1575. first of

  1576. all

  1577. apostles

  1578. second

  1579. prophets

  1580. third

  1581. teachers

  1582. then workers

  1583. of miracles

  1584. also those

  1585. having gifts

  1586. of healing

  1587. those able

  1588. to help

  1589. others

  1590. and those

  1591. gifts of

  1592. administration

  1593. and those

  1594. speaking in

  1595. different kinds

  1596. of tongues

  1597. are all

  1598. apostles

  1599. are all

  1600. prophets

  1601. are all

  1602. teachers

  1603. do all

  1604. work

  1605. miracles

  1606. do all

  1607. have

  1608. gifts

  1609. of healing

  1610. do all

  1611. speak in

  1612. tongues

  1613. do all

  1614. interpret

  1615. God has

  1616. appointed

  1617. diverse

  1618. gifts

  1619. in the

  1620. church

  1621. we are

  1622. not

  1623. all

  1624. the

  1625. same

  1626. praise

  1627. God

  1628. now we

  1629. spoke

  1630. last week

  1631. about

  1632. these

  1633. lists

  1634. and how

  1635. it can

  1636. be a bit

  1637. misleading

  1638. at times

  1639. that we

  1640. read a

  1641. list

  1642. and we

  1643. try to

  1644. pick where

  1645. we are

  1646. in the

  1647. list

  1648. but we

  1649. know that

  1650. this list

  1651. is different

  1652. from the

  1653. list in

  1654. verses 8

  1655. to 11

  1656. so we're

  1657. not meant

  1658. to do

  1659. that we're

  1660. not meant

  1661. to just

  1662. pick one

  1663. list and

  1664. think that's

  1665. everything

  1666. rather we're

  1667. to see that

  1668. there's a

  1669. diversity of

  1670. gifts given

  1671. to a

  1672. diversity of

  1673. members

  1674. and they're

  1675. not verse

  1676. 28 they're

  1677. not given

  1678. in the

  1679. Christian

  1680. but he

  1681. talks about

  1682. them being

  1683. in the

  1684. church and

  1685. in the

  1686. church God

  1687. has appointed

  1688. so again

  1689. the key thing

  1690. here is

  1691. diversity

  1692. of gifts

  1693. to a

  1694. diversity

  1695. of people

  1696. in the

  1697. church

  1698. they're

  1699. primarily

  1700. for the

  1701. church to

  1702. build up

  1703. the church

  1704. now just

  1705. briefly one

  1706. of the

  1707. things that

  1708. comes up

  1709. here in

  1710. this list

  1711. is the

  1712. ordering

  1713. first of

  1714. all apostles

  1715. second

  1716. prophets

  1717. and third

  1718. teachers

  1719. and then

  1720. he goes

  1721. on to

  1722. list a

  1723. whole other

  1724. set of

  1725. gifts that

  1726. aren't

  1727. ordered

  1728. and this

  1729. order one

  1730. two three

  1731. can be

  1732. taken in

  1733. two ways

  1734. the first

  1735. is the

  1736. order that

  1737. they emerge

  1738. in the

  1739. early church

  1740. so initially

  1741. we have

  1742. Christ appoints

  1743. his apostles

  1744. to bring

  1745. the good

  1746. news

  1747. and to

  1748. build the

  1749. church on

  1750. that apostolic

  1751. teaching of

  1752. the gospel

  1753. and secondly

  1754. we have

  1755. those that

  1756. are prophets

  1757. that speak

  1758. the word

  1759. of God

  1760. within

  1761. individual

  1762. church

  1763. contexts

  1764. and declare

  1765. the word

  1766. of God

  1767. in an

  1768. authoritative

  1769. way

  1770. and then

  1771. there are

  1772. teachers

  1773. who continue

  1774. to explain

  1775. and apply

  1776. the word

  1777. of God

  1778. within the

  1779. body

  1780. so we

  1781. have

  1782. apostles

  1783. preachers

  1784. and teachers

  1785. now there is

  1786. a sense

  1787. of the

  1788. order they

  1789. come

  1790. and also

  1791. the relative

  1792. importance

  1793. to the

  1794. life of

  1795. the church

  1796. and I think

  1797. that's why

  1798. those gifts

  1799. are ordered

  1800. Paul writing

  1801. in Ephesians

  1802. 2 puts

  1803. it like

  1804. this

  1805. we are

  1806. God's

  1807. people

  1808. and members

  1809. of God's

  1810. household

  1811. built on

  1812. the foundation

  1813. of the

  1814. apostles

  1815. and the

  1816. prophets

  1817. with Jesus

  1818. Christ

  1819. as a

  1820. chief

  1821. corner

  1822. stone

  1823. so there's

  1824. a variety

  1825. of gifts

  1826. given by

  1827. God

  1828. within the

  1829. church

  1830. and we

  1831. thank him

  1832. for sound

  1833. apostolic

  1834. teaching

  1835. that continues

  1836. today through

  1837. the preaching

  1838. of the word

  1839. of God

  1840. the Bible

  1841. preachers

  1842. and teachers

  1843. continue to

  1844. proclaim the

  1845. same gospel

  1846. as the

  1847. apostles

  1848. and we want

  1849. to thank God

  1850. for that

  1851. as D.A.

  1852. Carson puts it

  1853. we need to

  1854. thank God

  1855. for stomachs

  1856. so we're

  1857. talking about

  1858. the body

  1859. so let's

  1860. take that

  1861. as an

  1862. illustration

  1863. we need

  1864. to thank

  1865. God

  1866. for stomachs

  1867. and you're

  1868. going

  1869. what is he

  1870. talking about

  1871. well the

  1872. stomach

  1873. Carson explains

  1874. well it takes

  1875. in a lot of

  1876. food doesn't

  1877. it takes

  1878. in the food

  1879. and it

  1880. digests the

  1881. food and

  1882. then it

  1883. begins to

  1884. distribute the

  1885. food to

  1886. the rest

  1887. of the

  1888. body

  1889. and such

  1890. is the

  1891. role in

  1892. the body

  1893. of pastors

  1894. and teachers

  1895. they take

  1896. in the word

  1897. of God

  1898. they digest

  1899. it and

  1900. then distribute

  1901. it to

  1902. the other

  1903. members

  1904. so anyone

  1905. that's

  1906. teaching or

  1907. preaching in

  1908. any way in

  1909. this church

  1910. you're not

  1911. the head

  1912. that's not

  1913. the symbol

  1914. you're to

  1915. use for

  1916. yourself

  1917. you're to

  1918. use the

  1919. idea of

  1920. the stomach

  1921. and the

  1922. diversity

  1923. that God

  1924. gives like

  1925. this is one

  1926. reason why

  1927. organizations

  1928. outside of the

  1929. church

  1930. aren't the

  1931. church

  1932. so Christian

  1933. unions are

  1934. fantastic

  1935. I was

  1936. president of

  1937. the

  1938. CU for

  1939. a while

  1940. in

  1941. University

  1942. College

  1943. Cork

  1944. I met

  1945. my wife

  1946. in

  1947. UCC

  1948. so

  1949. Christian

  1950. union

  1951. has been

  1952. very good

  1953. to me

  1954. you know

  1955. I'm not

  1956. knocking the

  1957. Christian

  1958. union

  1959. the

  1960. Christian

  1961. union

  1962. is

  1963. fantastic

  1964. but

  1965. it's

  1966. not

  1967. the

  1968. church

  1969. it's

  1970. not

  1971. the

  1972. church

  1973. as

  1974. great

  1975. as

  1976. those

  1977. times

  1978. are

  1979. together

  1980. of

  1981. fellowship

  1982. and

  1983. friendship

  1984. and

  1985. staying

  1986. up

  1987. late

  1988. and doing

  1989. crazy

  1990. things

  1991. and witnessing

  1992. on

  1993. campus

  1994. it's

  1995. really

  1996. like

  1997. a lot

  1998. of little

  1999. legs

  2000. bouncing

  2001. around

  2002. the

  2003. campus

  2004. at

  2005. UCC

  2006. it's

  2007. not

  2008. a

  2009. body

  2010. it

  2011. doesn't

  2012. have

  2013. all

  2014. of

  2015. the

  2016. gifting

  2017. and

  2018. the

  2019. diversity

  2020. and

  2021. the

  2022. variety

  2023. that

  2024. a

  2025. body

  2026. demands

  2027. or

  2028. Bible

  2029. colleges

  2030. are

  2031. great

  2032. but

  2033. you're

  2034. all

  2035. really

  2036. just

  2037. a

  2038. bunch

  2039. of

  2040. stomachs

  2041. looking

  2042. at

  2043. each

  2044. other

  2045. so

  2046. we

  2047. go

  2048. to

  2049. NBC

  2050. that's

  2051. all

  2052. it

  2053. really

  2054. is

  2055. a

  2056. bunch

  2057. of

  2058. stomachs

  2059. only

  2060. the

  2061. church

  2062. is

  2063. the

  2064. body

  2065. of

  2066. Christ

  2067. how

  2068. awful

  2069. how

  2070. awful

  2071. it

  2072. would

  2073. be

  2074. if

  2075. the

  2076. church

  2077. was

  2078. only

  2079. made

  2080. up

  2081. of

  2082. middle

  2083. aged

  2084. white

  2085. married

  2086. with

  2087. kids

  2088. half

  2089. Irish

  2090. half

  2091. German

  2092. computer

  2093. programmers

  2094. who

  2095. study

  2096. at

  2097. NBC

  2098. and

  2099. like

  2100. Munster

  2101. Rugby

  2102. now

  2103. maybe

  2104. you're

  2105. all

  2106. thinking

  2107. that's

  2108. the

  2109. ideal

  2110. but

  2111. imagine

  2112. what

  2113. the

  2114. church

  2115. would

  2116. be

  2117. like

  2118. yes

  2119. there

  2120. are

  2121. moments

  2122. I

  2123. think

  2124. this

  2125. church

  2126. thing

  2127. would

  2128. be

  2129. a

  2130. whole

  2131. lot

  2132. easier

  2133. if

  2134. everyone

  2135. was

  2136. a

  2137. little

  2138. bit

  2139. okay

  2140. at

  2141. my

  2142. worst

  2143. moment

  2144. a

  2145. lot

  2146. more

  2147. like

  2148. me

  2149. wouldn't

  2150. it

  2151. be

  2152. so

  2153. much

  2154. easier

  2155. wouldn't

  2156. it

  2157. be

  2158. great

  2159. to

  2160. all

  2161. be

  2162. me

  2163. and

  2164. be

  2165. in

  2166. agreement

  2167. with

  2168. me

  2169. all

  2170. the

  2171. time

  2172. I

  2173. can

  2174. just

  2175. picture

  2176. you

  2177. all

  2178. nodding

  2179. now

  2180. yes

  2181. this

  2182. is

  2183. great

  2184. isn't

  2185. it

  2186. brilliant

  2187. stop

  2188. stop

  2189. the

  2190. foolish

  2191. thinking

  2192. or

  2193. we're

  2194. back

  2195. to

  2196. trying

  2197. to

  2198. cut

  2199. off

  2200. our

  2201. own

  2202. arm

  2203. or

  2204. back

  2205. to

  2206. trying

  2207. to

  2208. discard

  2209. our

  2210. foot

  2211. out

  2212. the

  2213. door

  2214. it's

  2215. a

  2216. all

  2217. too

  2218. common

  2219. you

  2220. know

  2221. in

  2222. our

  2223. home

  2224. groups

  2225. as we

  2226. quietly

  2227. cringe

  2228. when

  2229. certain

  2230. people

  2231. start

  2232. talking

  2233. because

  2234. we

  2235. know

  2236. what

  2237. they're

  2238. going

  2239. to

  2240. say

  2241. and

  2242. we've

  2243. heard

  2244. it

  2245. before

  2246. and

  2247. it's

  2248. no

  2249. different

  2250. this

  2251. time

  2252. and

  2253. we

  2254. wish

  2255. they

  2256. would

  2257. stop

  2258. or

  2259. find

  2260. another

  2261. tune

  2262. or

  2263. something

  2264. like

  2265. that

  2266. well

  2267. you

  2268. stop

  2269. you

  2270. stop

  2271. and

  2272. you

  2273. remember

  2274. verse

  2275. 27

  2276. now

  2277. you

  2278. are

  2279. the

  2280. body

  2281. of

  2282. Christ

  2283. and

  2284. each

  2285. one

  2286. of

  2287. you

  2288. is

  2289. a

  2290. part

  2291. of

  2292. it

  2293. you

  2294. stop

  2295. you

  2296. repent

  2297. and

  2298. then

  2299. you

  2300. smile

  2301. you

  2302. stop

  2303. and

  2304. you

  2305. repent

  2306. and

  2307. you

  2308. smile

  2309. seriously

  2310. stop

  2311. stop

  2312. that

  2313. thought

  2314. repent

  2315. and

  2316. thank

  2317. God

  2318. right

  2319. there

  2320. and

  2321. then

  2322. that

  2323. that

  2324. fellow

  2325. body

  2326. member

  2327. is

  2328. different

  2329. thank

  2330. God

  2331. that

  2332. they're

  2333. not

  2334. just

  2335. like

  2336. you

  2337. as

  2338. faulty

  2339. as

  2340. they

  2341. are

  2342. and

  2343. as

  2344. faulty

  2345. as

  2346. you

  2347. are

  2348. we

  2349. are

  2350. both

  2351. placed

  2352. right

  2353. here

  2354. right

  2355. now

  2356. by

  2357. God

  2358. himself

  2359. to

  2360. make

  2361. unity

  2362. in

  2363. Christ's

  2364. body

  2365. that

  2366. comes

  2367. through

  2368. diversity

  2369. let's

  2370. pray

  2371. our

  2372. God

  2373. and

  2374. father

  2375. in

  2376. heaven

  2377. we

  2378. thank

  2379. you

  2380. for

  2381. your

  2382. church

  2383. we

  2384. thank

  2385. you

  2386. that

  2387. it's

  2388. not

  2389. our

  2390. idea

  2391. it

  2392. is

  2393. your

  2394. idea

  2395. and

  2396. in

  2397. your

  2398. goodness
