  1. Great to have you here today. You're obviously over here for the whole week, and I think maybe a bit longer,

  2. but maybe just tell us a little bit about where you come from and a bit about your family, and I'll ask you something else.

  3. That could take a while. Well, we'll make it short.

  4. Originally, for the first 18 years of my life, I grew up and born and raised in Canada, outside the Toronto area.

  5. So, halfway between Toronto and Niagara Falls.

  6. And then I went down to the U.S., been there since, did my university seminary training there, and presently I'm teaching in Kentucky.

  7. I have a wonderful wife from New York State. People always say she's from New York, and they always confuse that with New York City.

  8. And she says, no, no, it's not New York City. New York State, and then we have five children, from three boys, two girls, 26 to 16.

  9. And you're obviously teaching theology at this stage, and you have a relationship with the Lord Jesus.

  10. Did you grow up in a Christian home, or how did you come to faith?

  11. Yeah, I was raised with parents who were Christians, who loved the Lord.

  12. And even though you are raised in a Christian home, it doesn't make you a Christian.

  13. So, I heard God's word every week, and was taken to our local church, but around 16 years old, the Lord was working in my life,

  14. where by the Spirit, He convicted me that I was a sinner.

  15. I needed the Lord Jesus.

  16. I can't just have my parents' faith.

  17. And people would say, are you a Christian?

  18. Oh, yes, yes, yes.

  19. I'm a Christian.

  20. But I wasn't.

  21. And by God's grace, I came to know the Lord Jesus, turned from my sin, believed in the Lord Jesus Christ at 16 years old.

  22. And that heritage that I had was wonderful, where so much was taught.

  23. And then from there, I felt that the Lord wanted me to serve Him in church and teaching and that kind of work.

  24. And that's where I've gone from there.

  25. So, have you always been involved in teaching theology, or did you do something else?

  26. Yeah.

  27. In between.

  28. I was always, after I was converted at 16, then I'm thinking of what's next in terms of schooling, right?

  29. So, getting out of high school.

  30. I was greatly influenced in my Christian life by reading a man named Francis Schaeffer years ago,

  31. and just trying to think how is I, you know, why is, I'm a Christian, but how do I communicate that to others,

  32. and why do I believe what I believe?

  33. And I knew that I, I had a sense that I wanted to go into Christian ministry.

  34. So, in my university training, I did a science education.

  35. Wasn't sure just how it would all work out.

  36. So, I never really worked in that area, but I was trained to be a teacher.

  37. And then went to seminary, and then, so really my whole life has been either pastoring or teaching after that.

  38. Okay.

  39. Well, we look forward to you communicating to us the truth of God's word.

  40. So, I'm going to pray for Stephen, and then over to you.

  41. Father, we thank you so much for your church worldwide, for the people that you have gathered to yourself,

  42. and we thank you for the gifts that you have given to people.

  43. We thank you for Stephen and his gift to understand your word, to teach, and to communicate.

  44. And yet, Father, we need the help of your Holy Spirit so that it is not just information to our minds,

  45. but that it is truth to our hearts that change us,

  46. and shape our lives to follow you and to walk with you.

  47. So, please help us, and please help Stephen, as he speaks your word to us today.

  48. We ask this in Jesus' name. Amen.

  49. Well, it is a great delight to be with you this morning,

  50. and we're going to be reading from the book of Hebrews.

  51. And if you have your Bibles, that will be Hebrews chapter 1.

    Hebrews 1 chapter mention

  52. And if you have a Bible that came in when you came in from the church,

  53. it is page number 1201.

  54. Right? 1201.

  55. The book of Hebrews chapter 1.

    Hebrews 1 chapter mention

  56. It's a great delight to be here.

  57. It's my second time to Ireland.

  58. And always two years ago, and now in between then.

  59. Two years ago, Ross and Joy housed me.

  60. And then Joy's come over to the U.S., and we've seen her in between,

  61. and now back again.

  62. So, I think that's a great opportunity to be back here with them.

  63. And my mother is, on my mother's side, is all Irish in Canada.

  64. Right?

  65. So, she said, as I come to Ireland, she says,

  66. I'll go talk to the homeland.

  67. Right?

  68. So, that's what she said.

  69. So, it's great to be here.

  70. We're going to read Hebrews chapter 1.

    Hebrews 1 chapter mention

  71. We're going to look at the first three verses.

  72. First three verses.

  73. And this is the introduction to this wonderful, wonderful letter that we'll get into.

  74. But we're going to read these first three verses.

  75. And then we'll begin to look at what God has to teach us from this section of Scripture.

  76. God's Word says this.

  77. In the past, God spoke to our forefathers through the prophets at many times and in various ways.

  78. But in these last days, He has spoken to us by His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things,

  79. and through whom He made the universe.

  80. The Son is the radiance of God's glory, the exact representation of His being,

  81. sustaining all things by His powerful Word.

  82. After He had provided purifications for sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in Heaven.

  83. We'll leave it there.

  84. But then verse 4 will become a transition.

  85. So He became.

  86. And then He goes on to compare Him to angels, right?

  87. Well, thinking of what to speak on this morning,

  88. I understand that you're going through the book of 1 Corinthians, 1 Corinthians.

  89. You're at chapter 14.

  90. And I know Johnny will do a great job on that.

  91. So I left that to him.

  92. He says, do you want to handle that passage?

  93. It sometimes gets controversial.

  94. In the church.

  95. And we said, no, no, you'll do a fine job.

  96. So come next week and you'll learn about prophecy in the church and all the spiritual gifts

  97. and those challenging issues that we wrestle with as we apply the Scripture to our lives.

  98. Instead, I wanted to return to something familiar but never, ever too familiar.

  99. And that is the glory of Christ.

  100. And there's many places we can turn.

  101. I'm so pleased to see that Colossians 1 was read this morning.

  102. And that's a wonderful passage.

  103. Colossians 1, 15 through 20.

  104. There's many, many, many key passages in the New Testament that present to us who Jesus is

  105. and all of his glory and splendor and his work.

  106. This passage here is one of those passages.

  107. And it's in a book that I think maybe we say this of every book of the New Testament or the Bible,

  108. but this is one of my most favorite books of the entire Bible.

  109. The book of Hebrews is a precious book to me,

  110. and it speaks so strongly to myself and I think the church today for a couple of reasons.

  111. First is when we think about who this book is written to.

  112. We live 2,000 years from these people.

  113. Yet, if we know something about the audience of the book of Hebrews,

  114. we realize that we have a lot in common with them.

  115. They have a lot of similarities, both good and bad, that we have.

  116. And then the message that the author gives to these Christians in the midst of their life

  117. and the busyness of their life is the glory of Christ.

  118. And for those two reasons, the book of Hebrews is such a precious one to me

  119. because I can identify with these Christians,

  120. and more importantly, I am presented the answer to my problems

  121. in terms of Jesus Christ the Lord.

  122. Now, in terms of these early Christians,

  123. a little bit of speculation on this,

  124. but I think we're on good grounds to say

  125. these are probably Jewish Christians.

  126. Now, why is that?

  127. Well, because so much of the book is devoted

  128. to the Old Testament,

  129. showing that Christ is the fulfillment of the Old Testament.

  130. So it's probably those who've come out of a Jewish background

  131. who are now believers.

  132. They've been believers for probably a generation.

  133. It's probably around the mid-60s in the first century

  134. before the fall of Jerusalem,

  135. which changed everything in the first century

  136. because there's no mention here of the fall.

  137. There's all discussion of the sacrifices and tabernacle,

  138. but there's no mention of the fall of Jerusalem.

  139. So we probably think it's written early on.

  140. We know from the book

  141. that these Christians had walked with the Lord.

  142. They had faced trials and persecution.

  143. Some of them had lost.

  144. You read chapter 10.

  145. Some of them had lost their jobs.

  146. Some of them had lost their homes.

  147. Some of them have been castaways in society.

  148. Yet, so far, they had remained firm.

  149. Yet, they were also facing probably a more serious problem

  150. than just simply pressures from the world.

  151. They were, as this author writes to them,

  152. it seems as if they're facing spiritual compromise.

  153. That's why so much of the book is,

  154. if you know the book of Hebrews,

  155. so much of it is dealing with

  156. the dual themes of encouragement and warning.

  157. It's famous for its warning passages.

  158. The author of Hebrews comes alongside these believers

  159. who have begun well,

  160. who have professed faith in Christ,

  161. who are facing incredible pressures around them.

  162. Pressures to give in and to cave and to compromise.

  163. Yet, he then warns them.

  164. He encourages them with the truth of who Christ is.

  165. But he warns them, don't depart.

  166. Don't go backwards.

  167. Now, that kind of people, I mean, I can identify with.

  168. We can grow up in the church.

  169. We know that the society around us is seemingly changing.

  170. We feel the sense of how difficult it is sometimes

  171. to live as a Christian

  172. who wants to honor the Lord in our lives

  173. in the world around us.

  174. We face pressures from family.

  175. We face pressures from the larger society.

  176. I can identify with these people

  177. who feel persecution and struggles.

  178. And so what is encouraging to say,

  179. you know, what I'm going through in my own life,

  180. they're going through similar things.

  181. Now, obviously, there's differences.

  182. Yet, there's a similarity.

  183. I can see what they're going through.

  184. They can remind me of some of the struggles

  185. that I'm having.

  186. But more than that,

  187. not just simply identification with them,

  188. what's most important is how the author addresses

  189. these struggling Christians.

  190. How does he encourage them to press on?

  191. How does he warn them of the dangers?

  192. Well, what he does,

  193. and of course, this is the entire theme of the book,

  194. is he presents to them the glory of Christ.

  195. He calls them back

  196. to remind them of who they have trusted in,

  197. who it is that has redeemed them,

  198. the Lord and Savior that is the Lord of the universe.

  199. And by so doing,

  200. he accomplishes the dual task of encouraging them.

  201. He encourages them in the truth of who Christ is.

  202. He encourages them that their faith has not been misplaced,

  203. that their faith is not in vain,

  204. that as the pressures of the world come in upon them,

  205. that they can have confidence

  206. that Christ is who He is.

  207. And at the same time,

  208. that warns them,

  209. given the glory and the wonder

  210. and the excellency of Christ,

  211. if you depart from Him,

  212. danger.

  213. So at the same time,

  214. and often in Scripture,

  215. you have sort of a dual side of the coin.

  216. Encouragement warning,

  217. warning encouragement,

  218. you don't just have one without the other,

  219. and in the center of it

  220. is the presentation of the glory of Christ.

  221. Now the opening verses that we read

  222. present this to us immediately.

  223. The theme of the book of Hebrews is

  224. Christ is better.

  225. Christ is greater than anything you can compare Him to.

  226. And throughout the book,

  227. there's an entire series of contrasts

  228. that the author makes with angels.

  229. That's where he goes in the first couple of chapters.

  230. With Moses,

  231. some of the great leader from the Old Testament.

  232. with covenants,

  233. and kings,

  234. and priests,

  235. and all of that is

  236. comparing,

  237. contrasting Christ to the Old Testament.

  238. And the author argues,

  239. your faith has not been misplaced.

  240. Christ is who He is.

  241. You can have confidence in

  242. your confidence in Him

  243. and what He's accomplished.

  244. And in light of that,

  245. press on.

  246. Now these opening verses

  247. get immediately to that larger truth

  248. that the book of Hebrews is communicating.

  249. The glory of Jesus Christ the Lord.

  250. This is unlike any other letter.

  251. Most letters,

  252. when you read them in the New Testament,

  253. have the author's name.

  254. I, Paul, write to such and such, right?

  255. All of that's missing.

  256. We're not exactly sure who this author is.

  257. He dispenses with any introduction

  258. and immediately goes

  259. to the main point of the book.

  260. And in this,

  261. and in fact,

  262. in the original,

  263. when you have verses 1 to 3,

  264. it's one sentence.

  265. We've broken it down

  266. in terms of our Bibles.

  267. But in one sentence,

  268. that is centered around

  269. the subject and the verb.

  270. And the subject of the verb

  271. of this one sentence

  272. is God spoke.

  273. And then around that,

  274. the author says,

  275. God spoke in the past,

  276. God spoke definitively in Christ.

  277. And in Christ,

  278. he has brought all of his plans

  279. and purposes to pass.

  280. And even more than that,

  281. he has brought about our salvation.

  282. And this then opens the book,

  283. which he then develops and expands.

  284. And everything thereafter in this book

  285. gives us then Christ

  286. as God's spoken word,

  287. final word,

  288. only Savior,

  289. encourages them in this,

  290. at the same time warns them,

  291. don't depart from him.

  292. Keep pressing on.

  293. He who has done a good work

  294. will see it to the end.

  295. You have placed your faith

  296. in the truth

  297. of the Son of God

  298. who has come and who has died.

  299. Your confidence is sure.

  300. And that's what then undergirds

  301. the confidence and encouragement

  302. that he is giving to these people.

  303. Well, we want to look at this,

  304. in some sense,

  305. opening statement of the book

  306. that is just simply developed

  307. throughout the book.

  308. And we'll look at it

  309. in three ways that the sentence,

  310. or at least these three verses,

  311. the one sentence is given to us.

  312. We're going to focus first on

  313. the fact that the author

  314. begins with this statement

  315. that God is the God who speaks.

  316. That's the opening subject of the verb.

  317. God has spoken.

  318. And then we will see

  319. how he moves from the fact

  320. that God has spoken

  321. to God has spoken

  322. definitively and finally

  323. in Christ, in the Son.

  324. And then we will move to

  325. the fact that he says

  326. God has spoken in His Son

  327. and provided a Savior for people.

  328. So those are the three areas

  329. that we want to just look at

  330. as we work through this passage.

  331. God has spoken.

  332. God has spoken in His Son

  333. definitively and finally.

  334. And God has now given us

  335. a Savior for people.

  336. Well, first, the idea of God has spoken.

  337. And that comes through,

  338. as I said,

  339. in terms of the main subject and verb.

  340. In the past, God spoke.

  341. And then he will develop this

  342. in verse 2.

  343. In these last days,

  344. God spoke.

  345. Now, there's going to be a difference

  346. between the past

  347. and what He has now done in Christ.

  348. We'll come to that

  349. in the second area.

  350. But the first area here

  351. is that He lays down

  352. for these people.

  353. And remember who they are, right?

  354. The people are facing

  355. trials and difficulties.

  356. He begins with the statement

  357. that God has spoken.

  358. He's spoken in the past.

  359. He's spoken in the present.

  360. He's spoken definitively in Christ.

  361. And it's a good reminder here

  362. before we move to

  363. what He says about Jesus

  364. to just think a little bit

  365. about this truth

  366. that He lays out for us.

  367. God has spoken.

  368. Right?

  369. Why is that important?

  370. Right?

  371. Well, if I were to ask you a question

  372. sort of coming in

  373. by the side here,

  374. what,

  375. you know,

  376. we live in an age

  377. where there's all kinds of

  378. religions and viewpoints

  379. and this type of thing.

  380. What makes

  381. the God of the Bible

  382. different

  383. than other gods?

  384. Right?

  385. Well,

  386. there's a lot of things

  387. that can be said there.

  388. First thing that comes to mind

  389. immediately

  390. is the God of the Bible

  391. is a triune God.

  392. That's unlike anything else

  393. and of course

  394. tied to the doctrine of the Trinity

  395. is the uniqueness

  396. of the Lord Jesus,

  397. the Son of God.

  398. But another truth

  399. that makes

  400. God unique

  401. than all of the gods

  402. out there

  403. is that God

  404. who is the triune God

  405. has spoken.

  406. It's important to remember

  407. in a couple of ways

  408. in our day.

  409. Right?

  410. When we go to the opening

  411. chapters of Genesis,

  412. the universe came into existence

  413. by God's spoken word.

  414. Right?

  415. That opening verse

  416. of chapter 1 of Genesis.

  417. In the beginning,

  418. God created

  419. the heavens and the earth.

  420. God said,

  421. boom,

  422. there's the universe.

  423. God's speech

  424. is also found

  425. in His

  426. telling us

  427. who He is.

  428. So He not only

  429. creates universes

  430. by His speech,

  431. He also makes Himself

  432. known to us.

  433. Now,

  434. this seems basic,

  435. elementary,

  436. Christian thought

  437. and what the Bible teaches.

  438. Why is this important?

  439. Why was it important

  440. for these Christians

  441. to know this?

  442. Well,

  443. in their own personal lives,

  444. they are facing trials

  445. and difficulties

  446. and persecution.

  447. How do you face?

  448. some of these Christians

  449. eventually

  450. were put on light poles

  451. and burned to death.

  452. How do you encourage people

  453. to go to death

  454. for their convictions?

  455. How do you encourage people

  456. to stand firm

  457. in the midst

  458. of life's difficulties?

  459. How do you give confidence

  460. to people

  461. when they face

  462. and all of us face

  463. in our just everyday lives

  464. life and death circumstances,

  465. news of cancer,

  466. news of difficulties?

  467. How do you encourage

  468. people to remain firm?

  469. Well,

  470. Scripture will come back

  471. to the fact

  472. that the only way

  473. we can encourage people

  474. is that we have to give them

  475. a true

  476. word

  477. from God.

  478. We can't just give people

  479. nice thoughts.

  480. We can't just

  481. read poetry to them.

  482. We can't just say

  483. think pleasant thoughts,

  484. everything will be good.

  485. Well,

  486. it doesn't work that way.

  487. We need to have

  488. a sure

  489. word

  490. from God.

  491. We need to know

  492. that God is real,

  493. that His promises

  494. are sure,

  495. that what I have

  496. banked my life upon

  497. in faith and confidence

  498. is really true

  499. even in the midst

  500. of

  501. martyrdom,

  502. even in the midst

  503. of suffering,

  504. even in the midst

  505. of trials and difficulty.

  506. And that's why

  507. I think this author

  508. begins with

  509. God has spoken.

  510. God has spoken.

  511. What He has said

  512. is sure.

  513. Now,

  514. He's going to

  515. move quite quickly

  516. to these Christians

  517. to say,

  518. God has spoken

  519. definitively in Christ

  520. and your faith

  521. in Him.

  522. But He,

  523. before He even

  524. gets there,

  525. He reminds them

  526. and He reminds us

  527. that our only hope

  528. in life

  529. and in death

  530. and any confidence

  531. and certainty

  532. we can have

  533. of our present

  534. and the future

  535. is that God

  536. has not remained silent,

  537. that God

  538. has spoken to us

  539. a sure word

  540. that we can

  541. build our lives on it,

  542. that we can have

  543. confidence in it,

  544. that we can trust

  545. His word more

  546. than anything else.

  547. And that's why

  548. I think this author

  549. begins in the way

  550. that he does.

  551. One other area

  552. where I think

  553. this is important

  554. as well,

  555. as we wrestle

  556. with our society

  557. around us,

  558. our society

  559. that can be

  560. characterized

  561. in a number of ways,

  562. but I think

  563. a fair way

  564. of characterizing it

  565. as we live

  566. in the Western world,

  567. this type of thing,

  568. is it's a very

  569. pluralistic society

  570. in the sense

  571. of mentality,

  572. mindset.

  573. Everywhere around us

  574. is the viewpoint

  575. that everyone's view

  576. is acceptable.

  577. We see that

  578. in religious viewpoints.

  579. Various religions

  580. have their own way

  581. to talk about God

  582. and to know God

  583. and Christians

  584. are one way

  585. and Muslims

  586. are another

  587. and Buddhists

  588. are another

  589. and all of this mindset.

  590. It's important

  591. to realize

  592. that the answer

  593. to that

  594. is not just

  595. adopting that mentality

  596. but realizing

  597. that the only way

  598. we can know

  599. that we are right

  600. versus someone else

  601. is that God

  602. has spoken to us.

  603. That God

  604. who exists,

  605. the God

  606. who knows all things

  607. has made

  608. Himself known.

  609. And that's precisely

  610. what Scripture says.

  611. Often Christians

  612. are presented

  613. as bigots

  614. or as narrow-minded

  615. because they say

  616. we believe the truth.

  617. We have to always

  618. remind people

  619. that we didn't

  620. make this up.

  621. We didn't say

  622. I want you to believe

  623. this because

  624. I think it's true

  625. and I don't care

  626. what you think.

  627. No, we are saying

  628. we are saying

  629. these things

  630. because God

  631. who has made

  632. all things,

  633. who knows all things,

  634. who rules

  635. over all things

  636. has now made

  637. His plan

  638. known to us.

  639. It's on that basis

  640. that we can then say

  641. this is a sure word.

  642. This is a word

  643. not only for your life

  644. but it's a word

  645. of truth.

  646. It's a word

  647. that we can govern

  648. all of our lives

  649. in light of.

  650. These Christians

  651. needed to know

  652. that in the first century.

  653. We in the 21st century

  654. need to know

  655. the same thing as well.

  656. Now of course

  657. the fact that God

  658. has spoken

  659. also entails

  660. that we hear His word.

  661. That we don't just

  662. carry it around

  663. but we're readers

  664. of that word.

  665. We're obeyers

  666. of that word.

  667. The author is going

  668. to encourage them

  669. with that as well.

  670. Follow God's word.

  671. Know God's word.

  672. Study God's word

  673. so that is then

  674. part of our life.

  675. God has spoken.

  676. That then means

  677. be hearers

  678. and doers of it.

  679. So that's the first area

  680. that He begins

  681. as He gives to them

  682. this opening letter

  683. speaking to these Christians

  684. in all of their

  685. difficulties and trials.

  686. God has spoken.

  687. But of course

  688. the point of

  689. God's speech here

  690. is to move quickly

  691. to Jesus Christ.

  692. He reminds them

  693. and this is probably

  694. if they're Jewish Christians

  695. they know of God's speech

  696. from the Old Testament.

  697. They may even be

  698. tempted to go back

  699. to that Old Testament

  700. and maybe compromise

  701. their commitment to Christ.

  702. So the author

  703. quickly moves

  704. to this second area.

  705. God has not only spoken

  706. but He's spoken

  707. decisively

  708. and finally

  709. in Jesus the Christ.

  710. Now that's

  711. the point of

  712. verse 1 and 2

  713. a comparison

  714. and contrast

  715. that's going on

  716. and you probably

  717. noticed that

  718. as we began

  719. to read this.

  720. In the past

  721. and then in verse 2

  722. in the last days.

  723. Obviously there's

  724. a contrast here.

  725. In the past

  726. God spoke.

  727. In the last days

  728. God spoke.

  729. But then He goes on

  730. to say

  731. in the past

  732. He spoke to our

  733. forefathers

  734. through the prophets.

  735. In the last days

  736. He's spoken

  737. by Son.

  738. In the past

  739. He's spoken

  740. in many times

  741. and in various ways.

  742. But verse 2

  743. implicitly

  744. if not explicitly

  745. here is

  746. in speaking

  747. in the Son

  748. it's not various

  749. and diverse

  750. in many ways.

  751. There's completion

  752. to it.

  753. There's these

  754. comparison and

  755. contrasting

  756. that He has here.

  757. You can see it

  758. first in the sense

  759. of whom God

  760. has spoken to

  761. and through.

  762. Right?

  763. In the past

  764. referring to the

  765. Old Testament era

  766. He spoke to

  767. the prophets.

  768. Moses

  769. and Isaiah

  770. and Jeremiah

  771. and all the

  772. Old Testament prophets.

  773. Those prophets

  774. spoke God's

  775. word truly.

  776. Yet

  777. this phrase

  778. here many times

  779. and in various

  780. ways

  781. not only speaks

  782. of repetition

  783. but it speaks

  784. of

  785. you know

  786. the book of Hebrews

  787. speaks a lot

  788. about repetition

  789. and repetition

  790. conveys notions

  791. of incompleteness.

  792. that's the two

  793. ideas.

  794. It's many times

  795. but it's also

  796. fragmentary

  797. or incomplete.

  798. It's not

  799. fully given.

  800. The Old Testament

  801. is true

  802. and reliable

  803. and authoritative

  804. but it's not

  805. the complete

  806. fullness

  807. of God's plan.

  808. That's the point

  809. that He's getting

  810. at here

  811. with the contrast

  812. with but.

  813. God spoke

  814. through the prophets

  815. many times

  816. diverse ways

  817. but in

  818. these last

  819. days

  820. what's

  821. last days

  822. referring to.

  823. Well last days

  824. is an Old Testament

  825. term.

  826. Last days

  827. is a term

  828. that comes

  829. from the

  830. prophets

  831. of the Old

  832. Testament

  833. that as they

  834. looked to

  835. the future

  836. they looked

  837. for God

  838. to bring

  839. His great

  840. salvation plan

  841. to pass

  842. in the future

  843. the last days.

  844. Well the author

  845. of Hebrews

  846. is saying

  847. those days

  848. that the

  849. prophets

  850. looked forward

  851. to

  852. are now

  853. here.

  854. Those days

  855. that the

  856. prophets

  857. longed for

  858. have arrived.

  859. How have

  860. they arrived?

  861. They've arrived

  862. in the

  863. Son.

  864. They've arrived

  865. in the Lord

  866. Jesus Christ.

  867. What is He

  868. saying here?

  869. Well He's

  870. reminding

  871. these Christians

  872. that God's

  873. spoken word

  874. has come

  875. to completion.

  876. Finality.

  877. in Christ

  878. the prophets

  879. look forward.

  880. Christ has

  881. now come.

  882. In Christ

  883. all of God's

  884. plans and

  885. purposes have

  886. come to

  887. pass.

  888. In Christ

  889. all of God's

  890. redemptive

  891. work is now

  892. complete.

  893. In Christ

  894. all of God's

  895. revelation

  896. from the

  897. past which

  898. is true

  899. and authoritative

  900. has now

  901. reached its

  902. end point.

  903. That's the

  904. emphasis here.

  905. And it's

  906. quite a statement

  907. right?

  908. Now how would

  909. this encourage

  910. these Christians

  911. right?

  912. Well they

  913. place their

  914. faith in

  915. Christ.

  916. They may

  917. be now

  918. in light

  919. of trials

  920. and persecution

  921. wondering is

  922. this a good

  923. place to put

  924. my faith?

  925. And the

  926. author of

  927. Hebrews is

  928. coming back

  929. and saying

  930. yes.

  931. You will

  932. find only

  933. God's

  934. finality of

  935. his revelation

  936. and finality

  937. of his plan

  938. and finality

  939. of his truth

  940. in one place

  941. alone.

  942. The prophets

  943. deliberately

  944. and purposely

  945. were looking

  946. forward.

  947. Christ now

  948. is the one

  949. who's brought

  950. it to

  951. pass.

  952. And then

  953. the author

  954. develops this

  955. throughout the

  956. book, right?

  957. In the Old

  958. Testament you

  959. had priests

  960. and sacrifices.

  961. They have

  962. now all

  963. reached their

  964. finality in

  965. the great

  966. priest, the

  967. great sacrifice.

  968. Moses was a

  969. great leader but

  970. he has been

  971. eclipsed by

  972. the coming of

  973. Christ who

  974. has now

  975. fulfilled all

  976. that Moses

  977. anticipated and

  978. so on and so

  979. on and so on.

  980. And this is

  981. how the

  982. greatness and

  983. glory of

  984. Christ is

  985. presented.

  986. Now if we

  987. really understand

  988. what he is

  989. claiming here,

  990. and this is

  991. quite a claim,

  992. right?

  993. All of God's

  994. revelation has

  995. come in Christ.

  996. All of the

  997. truth of God

  998. is now found

  999. in him.

  1000. All of God's

  1001. plans and

  1002. purposes are

  1003. centered in

  1004. one individual

  1005. alone.

  1006. You have to

  1007. say to yourself,

  1008. man, that's a

  1009. lot for one

  1010. individual to

  1011. carry, isn't

  1012. it?

  1013. How is that

  1014. possible?

  1015. Our world

  1016. stumbles over

  1017. this.

  1018. How can

  1019. one man

  1020. be the

  1021. one who

  1022. is the

  1023. truth of

  1024. God?

  1025. How can

  1026. one man

  1027. be the

  1028. one who

  1029. is the

  1030. savior of

  1031. the world?

  1032. How is

  1033. that possible?

  1034. Well, the

  1035. author makes

  1036. it very clear

  1037. how it's

  1038. very possible.

  1039. He goes

  1040. on then to

  1041. give you

  1042. reasons why

  1043. God's

  1044. revelation has

  1045. come to

  1046. finality in

  1047. Christ.

  1048. And there

  1049. you have a

  1050. description

  1051. here that

  1052. we can just

  1053. simply run

  1054. through quickly

  1055. which describes

  1056. then this

  1057. son, this

  1058. Lord Jesus

  1059. Christ who

  1060. has come, the

  1061. word made

  1062. flesh.

  1063. How is he

  1064. described?

  1065. Well, just

  1066. look in

  1067. verse 2.

  1068. He is

  1069. heir of

  1070. all things.

  1071. Why is

  1072. Christ the

  1073. definitive truth

  1074. of God?

  1075. Well, he

  1076. owns everything.

  1077. He's the

  1078. heir of all

  1079. things.

  1080. He's not

  1081. only heir because

  1082. he's been the

  1083. eternal son of

  1084. God, but also

  1085. by his very

  1086. coming he

  1087. has accomplished

  1088. a work.

  1089. He has won

  1090. back.

  1091. He is

  1092. redeemed as

  1093. Colossians 1

  1094. speaks about

  1095. him reconciling

  1096. all things.

  1097. I mean, he

  1098. has done a

  1099. work which

  1100. he now owns

  1101. the universe.

  1102. He owned

  1103. it from the

  1104. beginning and

  1105. he owns it as

  1106. a result of

  1107. his work.

  1108. He knows

  1109. all things,

  1110. owns all

  1111. things.

  1112. He's heir.

  1113. Well, that

  1114. gives you

  1115. reasons why

  1116. he indeed

  1117. is the

  1118. truth.

  1119. And then it

  1120. goes back

  1121. even to

  1122. the creation.

  1123. We saw

  1124. this in

  1125. Colossians 1.

  1126. We see it

  1127. here.

  1128. He's heir of

  1129. all things

  1130. through whom

  1131. he made

  1132. the universe.

  1133. The

  1134. through picks

  1135. up the

  1136. relationship to

  1137. God, the

  1138. Father.

  1139. This is

  1140. triune, but

  1141. it's the

  1142. Father through

  1143. the agency of

  1144. the Son.

  1145. The Son who

  1146. is eternal is

  1147. the one who's

  1148. the agent of

  1149. creation.

  1150. So he's heir of

  1151. all things and

  1152. through him,

  1153. Father through

  1154. Son by

  1155. Spirit,

  1156. created this

  1157. universe.

  1158. John 1

  1159. will say the

  1160. same thing

  1161. as well.

  1162. So you

  1163. say, well,

  1164. why should

  1165. we bank

  1166. our life

  1167. on him?

  1168. Why should

  1169. he, we

  1170. think that

  1171. he is the

  1172. fulfillment of

  1173. the prophets?

  1174. Well, he's

  1175. the creator of

  1176. the universe,

  1177. right?

  1178. He is the

  1179. heir of all

  1180. things.

  1181. And then, of

  1182. course, in

  1183. verse 3, if

  1184. you skip down

  1185. sort of halfway

  1186. through the

  1187. verse, you

  1188. combine creation

  1189. with ruling

  1190. over the

  1191. universe,

  1192. right?

  1193. So he

  1194. says he

  1195. sustains all

  1196. things,

  1197. by his

  1198. powerful

  1199. word.

  1200. So again,

  1201. you have

  1202. here the

  1203. triune God

  1204. in and

  1205. through God

  1206. the Son.

  1207. That's who

  1208. the Lord

  1209. Jesus is,

  1210. God the

  1211. Son.

  1212. Through him

  1213. creation is

  1214. made.

  1215. Through him

  1216. he sustains

  1217. all things

  1218. by a word.

  1219. So the

  1220. word creates

  1221. the universe

  1222. and the

  1223. word sustains

  1224. you.

  1225. Now,

  1226. I spend a

  1227. lot of

  1228. time just

  1229. thinking about

  1230. the rise

  1231. of technology

  1232. of being

  1233. able to

  1234. know something

  1235. about the

  1236. vastness

  1237. of this

  1238. universe.

  1239. It's huge,

  1240. right?

  1241. And then

  1242. think of

  1243. the developments,

  1244. you know,

  1245. not too long

  1246. ago of

  1247. micron,

  1248. microscopes,

  1249. and all that

  1250. we can go

  1251. down to

  1252. the smallest

  1253. of the

  1254. cell and

  1255. we now

  1256. know that

  1257. it is

  1258. complex and

  1259. designed and

  1260. ordered and

  1261. all.

  1262. And you

  1263. think,

  1264. this world,

  1265. this creation

  1266. is phenomenal.

  1267. It's amazing.

  1268. It's designed

  1269. and ordered

  1270. and purposed

  1271. in our

  1272. bodies.

  1273. And then

  1274. you think

  1275. of the

  1276. one who

  1277. is the

  1278. one who

  1279. brought that

  1280. into being,

  1281. the triune

  1282. God through

  1283. the sun.

  1284. The one

  1285. who sustains

  1286. every single

  1287. element of

  1288. the universe

  1289. is through

  1290. this sun.

  1291. And then

  1292. we say,

  1293. why should

  1294. we think

  1295. that in

  1296. him the

  1297. truth of

  1298. God is

  1299. found

  1300. completely?

  1301. Why is

  1302. he the

  1303. final revelation?

  1304. Why is

  1305. he better

  1306. than Moses

  1307. and prophets

  1308. and priests

  1309. and kings

  1310. of the

  1311. Old Testament?

  1312. Who

  1313. he is?

  1314. Who

  1315. he is?

  1316. He's

  1317. God,

  1318. the sun.

  1319. And then

  1320. verse 3,

  1321. we skipped

  1322. the first

  1323. part of

  1324. this.

  1325. This emphasizes

  1326. the same

  1327. point.

  1328. Here's a

  1329. verse that,

  1330. I mean,

  1331. all these

  1332. references here

  1333. speak of

  1334. the deity

  1335. of the

  1336. sun.

  1337. But this

  1338. one here,

  1339. he's the

  1340. radiance

  1341. of God's

  1342. glory.

  1343. So all

  1344. that the

  1345. father is,

  1346. he is.

  1347. He radiates

  1348. the very

  1349. glory of

  1350. God.

  1351. And then

  1352. you have

  1353. this phrase

  1354. here,

  1355. he is the

  1356. exact

  1357. representation

  1358. of

  1359. God's

  1360. being.

  1361. There's

  1362. no other

  1363. way,

  1364. and this

  1365. is the

  1366. way the

  1367. church

  1368. throughout

  1369. history

  1370. has sought

  1371. to think

  1372. through these

  1373. passages.

  1374. If they

  1375. ask the

  1376. question,

  1377. who is

  1378. this

  1379. son?

  1380. Who

  1381. is this

  1382. Lord

  1383. Jesus

  1384. Christ?

  1385. They

  1386. have to

  1387. conclude

  1388. with one

  1389. voice from

  1390. this

  1391. passage

  1392. and many

  1393. others,

  1394. he is

  1395. God

  1396. the

  1397. son.

  1398. He

  1399. is

  1400. God

  1401. the

  1402. son

  1403. who

  1404. became

  1405. flesh.

  1406. John

  1407. 1,

  1408. 14,

  1409. the

  1410. word

  1411. became

  1412. flesh.

  1413. This

  1414. isn't

  1415. just

  1416. a

  1417. man.

  1418. He

  1419. is

  1420. a

  1421. man.

  1422. He

  1423. took

  1424. on

  1425. our

  1426. humanity.

  1427. But

  1428. he

  1429. is

  1430. God.

  1431. He

  1432. is

  1433. God

  1434. the

  1435. son

  1436. from

  1437. eternity.

  1438. Creator,

  1439. sustainer,

  1440. heir,

  1441. the

  1442. one who

  1443. is the

  1444. radiance

  1445. of the

  1446. father.

  1447. Jesus

  1448. can

  1449. say

  1450. in

  1451. John

  1452. 14,

  1453. if

  1454. you've

  1455. seen

  1456. the

  1457. father,

  1458. you've

  1459. seen

  1460. me.

  1461. Not

  1462. that

  1463. they're

  1464. the

  1465. same

  1466. person,

  1467. but

  1468. by his

  1469. very

  1470. work and

  1471. you

  1472. have

  1473. this

  1474. powerful

  1475. statement.

  1476. Now,

  1477. again,

  1478. why is

  1479. the

  1480. author

  1481. beginning

  1482. with

  1483. this

  1484. to

  1485. these

  1486. Christians?

  1487. Well,

  1488. they're

  1489. in

  1490. danger

  1491. of

  1492. maybe

  1493. denying

  1494. this.

  1495. Or

  1496. they're

  1497. in

  1498. danger

  1499. of

  1500. compromise.

  1501. And

  1502. they're

  1503. in

  1504. danger

  1505. of

  1506. standing

  1507. still

  1508. in

  1509. their

  1510. Christian

  1511. lives.

  1512. And

  1513. what

  1514. does

  1515. the

  1516. author

  1517. do?

  1518. He

  1519. says,

  1520. wait a

  1521. second,

  1522. I

  1523. know

  1524. you're

  1525. facing

  1526. difficulties,

  1527. but

  1528. realize

  1529. the

  1530. one

  1531. you

  1532. put

  1533. your

  1534. confidence

  1535. in

  1536. will

  1537. see

  1538. you

  1539. flagpole.

  1540. He

  1541. is the

  1542. Lord of

  1543. the

  1544. universe.

  1545. There's

  1546. an

  1547. eternity

  1548. before

  1549. you.

  1550. He

  1551. will

  1552. come

  1553. again.

  1554. I

  1555. mean,

  1556. all

  1557. of

  1558. that

  1559. is

  1560. what's

  1561. encouraging

  1562. them

  1563. to

  1564. live

  1565. in

  1566. this

  1567. life

  1568. with

  1569. confidence

  1570. and

  1571. trust

  1572. in

  1573. him

  1574. and

  1575. in

  1576. him

  1577. alone.

  1578. You

  1579. have

  1580. all

  1581. of

  1582. that

  1583. grounding,

  1584. this

  1585. glory

  1586. of

  1587. Christ

  1588. to

  1589. give

  1590. them

  1591. incentive

  1592. to

  1593. press

  1594. on,

  1595. give

  1596. them

  1597. incentive

  1598. to

  1599. live

  1600. their

  1601. life

  1602. even

  1603. when

  1604. the

  1605. world

  1606. around

  1607. them

  1608. is

  1609. encouraging

  1610. them

  1611. to

  1612. not

  1613. live

  1614. that

  1615. life

  1616. or

  1617. it's

  1618. crashing

  1619. around

  1620. them.

  1621. And

  1622. then

  1623. he

  1624. finishes

  1625. with

  1626. one

  1627. last

  1628. point

  1629. here

  1630. and

  1631. we'll

  1632. wrap

  1633. it

  1634. here

  1635. with

  1636. this

  1637. last

  1638. phrase

  1639. and

  1640. he

  1641. develops

  1642. this

  1643. through

  1644. the

  1645. entire

  1646. book.

  1647. This

  1648. is

  1649. just

  1650. the

  1651. opening

  1652. statement.

  1653. God

  1654. has spoken

  1655. definitively

  1656. in

  1657. his

  1658. Son.

  1659. Why?

  1660. Because

  1661. of

  1662. who

  1663. he

  1664. is.

  1665. Heir,

  1666. creator,

  1667. sustainer,

  1668. radiance of

  1669. God's

  1670. glory,

  1671. exact

  1672. representation

  1673. of

  1674. being.

  1675. But

  1676. then

  1677. he

  1678. moves

  1679. in

  1680. verse

  1681. 3

  1682. to

  1683. then

  1684. shift

  1685. which

  1686. of

  1687. course

  1688. assumes

  1689. that

  1690. this

  1691. Son

  1692. who

  1693. is

  1694. creator

  1695. and

  1696. sustainer

  1697. has

  1698. now

  1699. come

  1700. to

  1701. this

  1702. world.

  1703. He

  1704. has

  1705. become

  1706. flesh.

  1707. He

  1708. has

  1709. become

  1710. man.

  1711. Why

  1712. does

  1713. he

  1714. assume

  1715. that?

  1716. Because

  1717. he

  1718. was

  1719. able

  1720. to

  1721. provide

  1722. purifications

  1723. for

  1724. sins.

  1725. That

  1726. happened

  1727. in

  1728. history.

  1729. He

  1730. was

  1731. able

  1732. to

  1733. come

  1734. to

  1735. this

  1736. world.

  1737. He

  1738. was

  1739. able

  1740. to

  1741. live.

  1742. He

  1743. was

  1744. able

  1745. to

  1746. die.

  1747. And

  1748. in

  1749. his

  1750. death

  1751. he

  1752. brought

  1753. all

  1754. of

  1755. the

  1756. Old

  1757. Testament

  1758. types

  1759. and

  1760. shadows

  1761. to

  1762. their

  1763. fulfillment.

  1764. He

  1765. brought

  1766. everything

  1767. to

  1768. pass.

  1769. This

  1770. is a

  1771. priestly

  1772. picture

  1773. here.

  1774. He

  1775. provided

  1776. purifications

  1777. for

  1778. sins.

  1779. All

  1780. of

  1781. that

  1782. set

  1783. in

  1784. the

  1785. context

  1786. of

  1787. the

  1788. Old

  1789. Testament

  1790. where

  1791. a

  1792. priest

  1793. would

  1794. have

  1795. to

  1796. offer

  1797. something

  1798. on

  1799. behalf

  1800. of

  1801. the

  1802. people.

  1803. God

  1804. who

  1805. is

  1806. holy

  1807. and

  1808. we

  1809. as

  1810. sinners

  1811. we

  1812. have

  1813. sinned

  1814. against

  1815. God

  1816. ultimately

  1817. in

  1818. the

  1819. Bible

  1820. God

  1821. is

  1822. going

  1823. to

  1824. have

  1825. to

  1826. provide

  1827. someone

  1828. to

  1829. stand

  1830. for

  1831. us

  1832. in

  1833. order

  1834. to

  1835. meet

  1836. his

  1837. demand.

  1838. In

  1839. the

  1840. Old

  1841. Testament

  1842. it

  1843. was

  1844. pictured

  1845. in

  1846. terms

  1847. of

  1848. animals

  1849. but

  1850. you

  1851. read

  1852. the

  1853. Old

  1854. Testament

  1855. that's

  1856. never

  1857. going

  1858. to

  1859. be

  1860. enough.

  1861. Ultimately

  1862. all

  1863. of

  1864. that

  1865. has

  1866. to

  1867. come

  1868. in

  1869. the

  1870. final

  1871. sacrifice

  1872. the

  1873. giving

  1874. of

  1875. his

  1876. son

  1877. who

  1878. is

  1879. not

  1880. just

  1881. a

  1882. man

  1883. who

  1884. does

  1885. this

  1886. for

  1887. us

  1888. the

  1889. son

  1890. who

  1891. becomes

  1892. man

  1893. in

  1894. order

  1895. to

  1896. stand

  1897. in

  1898. our

  1899. behalf

  1900. to

  1901. meet

  1902. our

  1903. need

  1904. to

  1905. stand

  1906. in

  1907. our

  1908. place

  1909. to

  1910. pay

  1911. for

  1912. our

  1913. sin

  1914. and

  1915. notice

  1916. what

  1917. he

  1918. says

  1919. here

  1920. and

  1921. again

  1922. this

  1923. is

  1924. in

  1925. contrast

  1926. to

  1927. the

  1928. Old

  1929. Testament

  1930. he

  1931. sat

  1932. down

  1933. right

  1934. Old

  1935. Testament

  1936. priests

  1937. never

  1938. sat

  1939. down

  1940. they

  1941. were

  1942. constantly

  1943. working

  1944. but

  1945. this

  1946. one

  1947. sat

  1948. down

  1949. and

  1950. he

  1951. sat

  1952. down

  1953. at

  1954. the

  1955. right

  1956. hand

  1957. picture

  1958. of

  1959. power

  1960. it's

  1961. a

  1962. picture

  1963. of

  1964. authority

  1965. it's

  1966. a

  1967. picture

  1968. of

  1969. completion

  1970. it's

  1971. a

  1972. picture

  1973. of

  1974. a

  1975. redeemer

  1976. think

  1977. of

  1978. this

  1979. in

  1980. terms

  1981. of

  1982. the

  1983. Lord

  1984. Jesus

  1985. as

  1986. we

  1987. pull

  1988. this

  1989. together

  1990. here

  1991. where

  1992. the

  1993. Lord

  1994. Jesus

  1995. as

  1996. the

  1997. son

  1998. in

  1999. this

  2000. son

  2001. we

  2002. have

  2003. the

  2004. finality

  2005. of

  2006. God's

  2007. truth

  2008. no

  2009. other

  2010. word

  2011. can

  2012. be

  2013. trusted

  2014. fully

  2015. other

  2016. than

  2017. what

  2018. he

  2019. himself

  2020. gives

  2021. and

  2022. all

  2023. that

  2024. he

  2025. has

  2026. made

  2027. known

  2028. of

  2029. himself

  2030. but we

  2031. also

  2032. have

  2033. not

  2034. just

  2035. truth

  2036. found

  2037. in

  2038. him

  2039. we

  2040. have

  2041. a

  2042. redeemer

  2043. found

  2044. in

  2045. him

  2046. you

  2047. and I

  2048. need

  2049. to know

  2050. truth

  2051. from

  2052. God

  2053. but we

  2054. also

  2055. need

  2056. to have

  2057. salvation

  2058. from

  2059. our

  2060. sin

  2061. before

  2062. God

  2063. and

  2064. in

  2065. Christ

  2066. this

  2067. one

  2068. who

  2069. has

  2070. come

  2071. God's

  2072. own

  2073. son

  2074. we

  2075. have

  2076. both

  2077. the

  2078. truth

  2079. of

  2080. God

  2081. and

  2082. we

  2083. have

  2084. the

  2085. redemption

  2086. of

  2087. God

  2088. we

  2089. have

  2090. the

  2091. forgiveness

  2092. of

  2093. sins

  2094. and

  2095. we

  2096. have

  2097. everything

  2098. that

  2099. we

  2100. can

  2101. count

  2102. on

  2103. him

  2104. his

  2105. word

  2106. is

  2107. true

  2108. he

  2109. is

  2110. greater

  2111. than

  2112. any

  2113. prophet

  2114. he

  2115. is

  2116. greater

  2117. than

  2118. any

  2119. priest

  2120. and

  2121. ultimately

  2122. he's

  2123. presented

  2124. here

  2125. as

  2126. the

  2127. king

  2128. it's

  2129. been a

  2130. common

  2131. way

  2132. of

  2133. looking

  2134. at

  2135. who

  2136. Jesus

  2137. is

  2138. our

  2139. great

  2140. prophet

  2141. priest

  2142. and

  2143. king

  2144. well

  2145. that's

  2146. right

  2147. here

  2148. isn't

  2149. it

  2150. and

  2151. everything

  2152. centers

  2153. in

  2154. him

  2155. so

  2156. that

  2157. what

  2158. would

  2159. these

  2160. Christians

  2161. what

  2162. should

  2163. have

  2164. they

  2165. have

  2166. heard

  2167. from

  2168. this

  2169. author

  2170. speaking

  2171. to

  2172. them

  2173. encouragement

  2174. right

  2175. you've

  2176. started

  2177. well

  2178. keep

  2179. looking

  2180. to

  2181. him

  2182. keep

  2183. running

  2184. the

  2185. race

  2186. also

  2187. warning

  2188. if

  2189. I

  2190. take

  2191. my

  2192. eyes

  2193. off

  2194. of

  2195. him

  2196. and

  2197. wander

  2198. away

  2199. from

  2200. him

  2201. there's

  2202. a

  2203. warning

  2204. in

  2205. chapter

  2206. two

  2207. that

  2208. picks

  2209. up

  2210. this

  2211. if

  2212. I

  2213. wander

  2214. away

  2215. then of

  2216. course

  2217. there's

  2218. no hope

  2219. for us

  2220. because

  2221. there's

  2222. no salvation

  2223. outside

  2224. this

  2225. redeemer

  2226. why would

  2227. that be

  2228. the case

  2229. well look

  2230. who he

  2231. is

  2232. nobody

  2233. can

  2234. is like

  2235. this

  2236. person

  2237. no one

  2238. can

  2239. save

  2240. us

  2241. no one

  2242. can

  2243. meet

  2244. our

  2245. need

  2246. no

  2247. human

  2248. being

  2249. can

  2250. do

  2251. this

  2252. other

  2253. than

  2254. him

  2255. so

  2256. that

  2257. if

  2258. I

  2259. wander

  2260. from

  2261. him

  2262. there's

  2263. no

  2264. salvation

  2265. outside

  2266. of

  2267. him

  2268. but

  2269. in

  2270. him

  2271. the

  2272. encouragement

  2273. then is

  2274. everything's

  2275. found

  2276. in

  2277. him

  2278. if

  2279. you

  2280. want

  2281. to

  2282. know

  2283. what's

  2284. really

  2285. true

  2286. go

  2287. to

  2288. him

  2289. if

  2290. you

  2291. want

  2292. to

  2293. know

  2294. that

  2295. your

  2296. sins

  2297. are

  2298. forgiven

  2299. you

  2300. stand

  2301. right

  2302. before

  2303. God

  2304. now

  2305. and

  2306. forever

  2307. more

  2308. go

  2309. to

  2310. him

  2311. he

  2312. meets

  2313. our

  2314. every

  2315. need

  2316. and

  2317. he's

  2318. presenting

  2319. to

  2320. these

  2321. Christians

  2322. as

  2323. he's

  2324. presenting

  2325. to

  2326. us

  2327. right

  2328. same

  2329. message

  2330. that

  2331. they

  2332. have

  2333. we

  2334. have

  2335. the

  2336. Lord

  2337. Jesus

  2338. Christ

  2339. is

  2340. the

  2341. most

  2342. important

  2343. person

  2344. in

  2345. all

  2346. the

  2347. universe

  2348. he's

  2349. central

  2350. to

  2351. he

  2352. must

  2353. be

  2354. central

  2355. he's

  2356. central

  2357. to

  2358. God's

  2359. plans

  2360. and

  2361. purposes

  2362. he

  2363. must

  2364. now

  2365. be

  2366. central

  2367. to

  2368. our

  2369. lives

  2370. right

  2371. it's

  2372. not

  2373. enough

  2374. to

  2375. simply

  2376. say

  2377. I

  2378. believe

  2379. in

  2380. Jesus

  2381. right

  2382. mentioned

  2383. even

  2384. in

  2385. my

  2386. Christian

  2387. testimony

  2388. right

  2389. I

  2390. mean

  2391. I

  2392. used

  2393. to

  2394. be

  2395. that

  2396. way

  2397. on

  2398. my

  2399. own

  2400. being

  2401. raised

  2402. in

  2403. a

  2404. Christian

  2405. setting

  2406. a

  2407. Christian

  2408. background

  2409. Christian

  2410. home

  2411. oh yeah

  2412. I

  2413. believe

  2414. in

  2415. Jesus

  2416. not

  2417. enough

  2418. to

  2419. just

  2420. sort

  2421. of

  2422. have

  2423. that

  2424. generalized

  2425. faith

  2426. no

  2427. we

  2428. must

  2429. personally

  2430. commit

  2431. ourselves

  2432. to

  2433. him

  2434. we

  2435. must

  2436. know

  2437. him

  2438. we

  2439. must

  2440. walk

  2441. with

  2442. him

  2443. we

  2444. must

  2445. take

  2446. his

  2447. word

  2448. and

  2449. put

  2450. into

  2451. practice

  2452. he

  2453. is

  2454. this

  2455. glorious

  2456. redeemer

  2457. and

  2458. glorious

  2459. king

  2460. and

  2461. he

  2462. demands

  2463. rightly

  2464. and

  2465. nothing

  2466. less

  2467. than

  2468. our

  2469. very

  2470. lives

  2471. so

  2472. this

  2473. week

  2474. as

  2475. we

  2476. go

  2477. into

  2478. our

  2479. workplaces

  2480. as

  2481. we

  2482. rub

  2483. shoulders

  2484. with

  2485. people

  2486. right

  2487. we

  2488. are

  2489. to

  2490. go

  2491. with

  2492. our

  2493. faith

  2494. firmly

  2495. placed

  2496. in

  2497. him

  2498. that

  2499. we

  2500. are

  2501. to

  2502. go

  2503. to

  2504. say

  2505. I

  2506. want

  2507. to

  2508. please

  2509. him

  2510. in

  2511. all

  2512. things

  2513. I

  2514. want

  2515. to

  2516. no

  2517. matter

  2518. whether

  2519. people

  2520. laugh

  2521. at

  2522. me

  2523. or

  2524. I'm

  2525. persecuted

  2526. or

  2527. they

  2528. think

  2529. I'm

  2530. nuts

  2531. I'm

  2532. living

  2533. for

  2534. him

  2535. he

  2536. is

  2537. the

  2538. truth

  2539. of

  2540. God

  2541. he's

  2542. the

  2543. salvation

  2544. of

  2545. God

  2546. and

  2547. we

  2548. then

  2549. from

  2550. now

  2551. and

  2552. forevermore

  2553. seek

  2554. to

  2555. please

  2556. him

  2557. and

  2558. glorify

  2559. him

  2560. and

  2561. indeed

  2562. if

  2563. we

  2564. sometimes

  2565. somebody

  2566. may be

  2567. here

  2568. that

  2569. does

  2570. not

  2571. know

  2572. him

  2573. right

  2574. hopefully

  2575. we

  2576. have

  2577. to

  2578. emphasize

  2579. and

  2580. you

  2581. see

  2582. that

  2583. there

  2584. can

  2585. be

  2586. no

  2587. truth

  2588. and

  2589. salvation

  2590. apart

  2591. from

  2592. him

  2593. given

  2594. who

  2595. he

  2596. is

  2597. this

  2598. savior

  2599. cannot

  2600. be

  2601. treated

  2602. lightly

  2603. he

  2604. has

  2605. to

  2606. be

  2607. treated

  2608. with

  2609. utter

  2610. seriousness

  2611. and

  2612. we

  2613. then

  2614. have

  2615. to

  2616. say

  2617. I

  2618. want

  2619. to

  2620. know

  2621. him

  2622. and

  2623. place

  2624. my

  2625. faith

  2626. and

  2627. confidence

  2628. in

  2629. him

  2630. that's

  2631. what

  2632. the

  2633. author

  2634. of

  2635. Hebrews

  2636. is

  2637. calling

  2638. these

  2639. first

  2640. Christians

  2641. to

  2642. and

  2643. he

  2644. calls

  2645. us

  2646. to

  2647. the

  2648. same

  2649. calling

  2650. the

  2651. same

  2652. message

  2653. the

  2654. same

  2655. command

  2656. believe

  2657. in

  2658. the

  2659. Lord

  2660. Jesus

  2661. trust

  2662. in

  2663. him

  2664. in

  2665. him

  2666. is

  2667. everything

  2668. and

  2669. we

  2670. now

  2671. can

  2672. have

  2673. confidence

  2674. now

  2675. and

  2676. forever

  2677. more

  2678. well

  2679. let's

  2680. pray

  2681. and

  2682. commit

  2683. that

  2684. to

  2685. our

  2686. lives

  2687. heavenly

  2688. father

  2689. we

  2690. thank

  2691. you

  2692. for

  2693. this

  2694. passage

  2695. of

  2696. scripture

  2697. we

  2698. thank

  2699. you

  2700. that

  2701. it

  2702. reminds

  2703. us

  2704. of

  2705. our

  2706. great

  2707. and

  2708. glorious
