  1. So that's from 1 Corinthians chapter 14, beginning at verse 26, and that's page 1155 of the Red

    1 Corinthians 14 chapter mention

  2. Church Bible.

  3. What then shall we say, brothers?

  4. When you come together, everyone has a hymn or a word of instruction, a revelation, a tongue,

  5. or an interpretation.

  6. All of these must be done for the strengthening of the church.

  7. If anyone speaks in a tongue, two, or at the most three, should speak, one at a time, and

  8. someone must interpret.

  9. If there is no interpreter, the speaker should keep quiet in the church and speak to himself

  10. and God.

  11. Two or three prophets should speak, and the others should weigh carefully what is said.

  12. And if a revelation comes to someone who is sitting down, the first speaker should stop.

  13. For you can all prophecy in turn, so that everyone may be instructed and encouraged.

  14. The spirits of prophets are subject to the control of prophets.

  15. For God is not a God of disorder, but of peace.

  16. As in all the congregations of the saints, women should remain silent in the churches.

  17. They are not allowed to speak, but must be in submission, as the law says.

  18. If they want to inquire about something, they should ask their own husbands at home, for it

  19. is disgraceful for a woman to speak in the church.

  20. Did the word of God originate with you, or are you the only people it has reached?

  21. If anyone thinks he is a prophet or spiritually gifted, let him acknowledge that what I am

  22. writing to you is the Lord's command.

  23. If he ignores this, he himself will be ignored.

  24. Therefore, my brothers, be eager to prophesy, and do not forbid speaking in tongues, but everything

  25. should be done in a fitting and orderly way.

  26. Thank you, Christine.

  27. Well, should Christine have read or not?

  28. That's the question.

  29. We'll get to that a little bit later on.

  30. Keep your Bibles open.

  31. 1 Corinthians 14.

  32. And there's some pens and sheets.

  33. If you'd like to be able to take notes, then you can do that, or you simply use the back

  34. of the new sheet.

  35. There's spaces there if you'd like to be able to take notes as we work along.

  36. So, just a reminder, we did have a little break from 1 Corinthians last week, but we've been

  37. looking at a series which we're entitling The Gathering, which takes us from 1 Corinthians

  38. 11 through to the end of 14, which is asking the big, big question, what should we do when

  39. we gather together, just as we're doing now?

  40. What should our meeting, our gathering be like?

  41. And we come to the very end of that.

  42. It's almost like a conclusion to all that's been spoken about.

  43. Thanks, Alex.

  44. We're going to pray and ask for God's help to us.

  45. Our Father God, we thank you for your word, and we thank you that you have spoken clearly

  46. to us.

  47. We ask that in the midst of the chaos of this world and the confusion that we face, that

  48. you would speak truth to us, your people today, so that you bring order out of disorder.

  49. You bring hope in times of darkness, that you bring peace where there is turmoil.

  50. So, Father, by your Holy Spirit, speak through your word, through your servant today.

  51. We pray in Jesus' name.

  52. Amen.

  53. Amen.

  54. So, what did you say to the person you're sitting next to this morning?

  55. Or what was your conversation like over tea and coffee?

  56. Well, the writer of Proverbs reminds us about our words.

  57. He says this, reckless words can pierce like a sword, but the tongue of the wise or the words

  58. of the wise brings healing.

  59. You see, our words have great power.

  60. They can either build up or they can tear down.

  61. They can hurt or they can heal.

  62. And I'm sure we've all experienced both.

  63. That sharp word that crushes us and breaks us or the gentle word that restores and renews.

  64. Our words have great power.

  65. Well, in the church at Corinth, they were well known for their, what we might term, their word

  66. gifts.

  67. So, look at verse 26.

  68. Chapter 14, verse 26.

  69. What then shall we say, brothers and sisters?

  70. When you come together, so just as we're gathered together like this in this meeting place.

  71. So, he's saying when you come together, everyone has a hymn or a song or a word of instruction

  72. or a revelation, that is a prophecy, a word from God, a tongue, that is another language,

  73. or an interpretation of that language.

  74. You see, they've got these wonderful word gifts.

  75. But the problem is, as we've seen, their words are causing division and disorder.

  76. And in particular, throughout chapter 14, we've seen that if you had the gift of tongues,

  77. speaking in an unknown language, the assumption was that your words were more powerful, perhaps

  78. you were more spiritual, and therefore you should have more speaking rights.

  79. The church was like question time in Dolaran.

  80. Everyone wanting to have their say, and no one quite understanding what was being said.

  81. It was chaotic.

  82. There was complete disorder.

  83. Well, as we gather together as church, we've come here today with all of our word gifts.

  84. Everyone might have something to say, but how we use our words with each other is of crucial importance.

  85. So, look at verse 33.

  86. For God is not a God of disorder, but of peace.

  87. You see, when God speaks, he doesn't bring disorder.

  88. God brings peace.

  89. God's word doesn't bring confusion and chaos.

  90. God's word brings clarity.

  91. Think about the creation story, that passage at the very beginning of the Bible in Genesis 1.

  92. In the beginning, we're told, there was, what, there was like chaos and disorder, and then God spoke.

  93. And his word brought order.

  94. And his word brought harmony.

  95. He had everything in its place.

  96. Everything as it should be.

  97. Now, the point is, as we gather together, our gathering here should reflect something of the character of the God we worship.

  98. So, as we come this morning, our words to one another should bring clarity, not confusion.

  99. The words that we speak to one another should bring peace and harmony into each other's lives.

  100. It brings peace to the brokenness and the disorder that our world and our lives face.

  101. So, in conclusion, he will say in verse 40.

  102. But everything, that is, as we meet together, everything should be done in a fitting and orderly way.

  103. Because God is a God of order.

  104. And God brings clarity, not confusion.

  105. Well, as we gather together, there are two big things that we need to keep in mind.

  106. Here's the first one.

  107. All our words should build up the church.

  108. All our words should build up the church.

  109. Go back to verse 26.

  110. What then shall we say, brothers and sisters?

  111. When you come together, everyone has a hymn or a song, a word of instruction, a revelation, that is, a prophecy, a tongue, or an interpretation.

  112. All of these, and not just those, but indeed all word gifts, must be done for the strengthening of the church.

  113. So, what's that going to look like for us here in Carragallion?

  114. Well, three things.

  115. First, we should come ready to participate.

  116. Again, look at verse 26.

  117. Do you see in the middle it says, when you come together.

  118. When you come together, everyone.

  119. So, the expectation is, is that we actually do make it a priority, as God's people, to meet together.

  120. And when we come together as church, we come to participate.

  121. That's been encouraged all the way along.

  122. Look at verse 12 of chapter 14.

  123. So it is with you.

  124. So it is with you.

  125. Since you are eager to have spiritual gifts, try to excel in gifts that build up the church or strengthen the church.

  126. What are they?

  127. Well, go down to verse 18.

  128. He says, I thank God that I speak in tongues more than all of you.

  129. So it's not wrong or bad to speak in tongues.

  130. Verse 19.

  131. To comfort those who are struggling.

  132. And to instruct those who perhaps are drifting in their relationship with God.

  133. So we don't come waiting to be spoken to by somebody else and sitting in our seats going,

  134. why isn't anybody talking to me?

  135. We come ready to participate.

  136. Second, we come thinking of others.

  137. The gifts that God gives to us are primarily to strengthen other people and not self.

  138. So look at verse 27.

  139. If anyone speaks in a tongue, that is, in an unknown or unlearned language,

  140. two, or at the most three, should speak.

  141. One at a time.

  142. And someone must interpret.

  143. You see, if someone speaks in an unknown or unlearned language,

  144. it's not going to benefit the church at all because

  145. no one understands.

  146. Verse 11.

  147. If then I do not grasp the meaning of what someone is saying,

  148. I'm a foreigner to the speaker.

  149. And they're a foreigner to me.

  150. Verse 13.

  151. For this reason,

  152. anyone who speaks in a tongue

  153. should pray

  154. that he may interpret what he says.

  155. So anybody who has the gift of tongue should,

  156. well, they should be praying for that interpretation.

  157. Or somebody else should interpret

  158. so that all the church,

  159. so that everybody benefits.

  160. Verse 28.

  161. If there is no interpreter,

  162. the speaker should keep quiet in the church

  163. and speak to himself and God.

  164. You see, the point I think here is

  165. is that we use our word gifts

  166. to think of ways of building other people up.

  167. It's really not about me.

  168. In contrast then,

  169. he goes on to talk about prophecy,

  170. which is others-centered.

  171. It's about thinking of others.

  172. So again, verse 27.

  173. Let's just read the first part of verse 27.

  174. It says,

  175. if anyone speaks in a tongue.

  176. If.

  177. So it's not essential.

  178. But, look at verse 29.

  179. Two or three prophets

  180. should speak.

  181. And why is the priority

  182. or the emphasis placed on prophecy?

  183. Well, we're told in verse 31.

  184. For you can all prophecy in turn

  185. so that everyone

  186. may be instructed

  187. and encouraged.

  188. You see, prophecy is a priority

  189. within the church

  190. because it is always thinking

  191. of other people.

  192. It is others-centered.

  193. You might remember that

  194. from chapter 14 and verse 4.

  195. He who speaks in the tongue

  196. edifies himself,

  197. but he who prophesies

  198. edifies the church.

  199. It builds up the church.

  200. Now you say,

  201. well, that's all great, isn't it?

  202. All this talk of prophecy.

  203. Well, let me ask this.

  204. When was the last time

  205. someone in this church

  206. brought a prophecy?

  207. Never mind two or three.

  208. Can you remember?

  209. Well,

  210. we need to think about that,

  211. don't we?

  212. Because if we understand

  213. prophecy as this,

  214. and we looked at this

  215. the other week,

  216. as being a revelation

  217. from God,

  218. that is a word

  219. that is tested

  220. against scripture,

  221. that strengthens,

  222. encourages,

  223. comforts,

  224. instructs,

  225. the church body,

  226. and can lead

  227. unbelievers

  228. to Christ.

  229. So what's that

  230. going to look like

  231. for us?

  232. Well, it could be

  233. as we've just done

  234. over tea and coffee.

  235. We don't look at

  236. tea and coffee

  237. as break time,

  238. but as perhaps,

  239. do we say,

  240. prophecy time?

  241. An opportunity

  242. to build

  243. one another up?

  244. to comfort

  245. and instruct

  246. and encourage

  247. each other

  248. with our words?

  249. It could be.

  250. But it seems

  251. as we read

  252. through this,

  253. this is talking

  254. about two or three

  255. speaking to the

  256. whole church.

  257. Not just one-to-one

  258. conversations,

  259. but someone speaking

  260. to all the church.

  261. So what's that

  262. going to look like?

  263. Well, in some sense,

  264. preaching is prophetic,

  265. as we're doing

  266. right now.

  267. As we hear

  268. God's word

  269. explained and applied,

  270. it brings instruction,

  271. it brings encouragement,

  272. it brings comfort.

  273. Those who led

  274. the songs,

  275. in some sense,

  276. were also being

  277. prophetic,

  278. as they spoke

  279. truth.

  280. Even the words

  281. that we sang

  282. today bring us

  283. comfort and

  284. encouragement

  285. in the midst

  286. of chaos and

  287. turmoil and

  288. unknowns of

  289. what's going

  290. to happen.

  291. But again,

  292. as we read

  293. through this

  294. section here,

  295. it seems to be

  296. that this is

  297. not just

  298. planned speech,

  299. but there's

  300. also a

  301. spontaneity.

  302. So look at

  303. verse 30.

  304. So in the

  305. gathering,

  306. we're talking,

  307. verse 30,

  308. and if a

  309. revelation comes

  310. to someone

  311. who is sitting

  312. down,

  313. the first

  314. speaker should

  315. stop.

  316. So it

  317. seems to me

  318. that when

  319. the church

  320. gathers

  321. together,

  322. there should

  323. be times

  324. when there is

  325. opportunity

  326. to bring a

  327. word from God

  328. to build up

  329. the whole

  330. church.

  331. And again,

  332. we could say,

  333. well, we could do

  334. that in home

  335. groups.

  336. Yes, yes,

  337. we could do

  338. that, but it's

  339. not the whole

  340. church gathered,

  341. is it?

  342. Now, I

  343. haven't got my

  344. head completely

  345. around all of

  346. this, still

  347. thinking it

  348. through, but I

  349. think it's

  350. something we do

  351. need to think

  352. about.

  353. But what

  354. would it look

  355. like?

  356. Well, it

  357. might mean,

  358. and this is

  359. what I do

  360. think, instead

  361. of having time

  362. for announcements,

  363. which we did

  364. this morning,

  365. and which

  366. everybody else

  367. can actually

  368. read from

  369. their new

  370. sheet.

  371. We don't

  372. need to do

  373. it if you

  374. just read

  375. carefully.

  376. Maybe we

  377. need to think

  378. about having

  379. time where

  380. church members

  381. have the

  382. opportunity to

  383. speak a word

  384. of encouragement

  385. to the church.

  386. It's not

  387. necessarily all

  388. the time, it

  389. doesn't say that

  390. everybody has

  391. that gift,

  392. but it might

  393. be a word of

  394. encouragement in

  395. line of what

  396. we've been

  397. thinking.

  398. I leave that

  399. for discussion.

  400. we can talk

  401. about it

  402. again.

  403. So come

  404. to participate,

  405. think of

  406. others,

  407. and third,

  408. learn to

  409. be silent.

  410. Verse 33,

  411. for God is

  412. not a God

  413. of disorder,

  414. but of

  415. peace.

  416. As in all

  417. the congregations,

  418. all the

  419. churches of

  420. the saints,

  421. women should

  422. remain silent

  423. in the

  424. churches.

  425. churches,

  426. they are

  427. not allowed

  428. to speak

  429. and must

  430. be in

  431. submission,

  432. as the

  433. law says.

  434. So that's

  435. clear,

  436. isn't it?

  437. Men are

  438. encouraged to

  439. participate,

  440. and all the

  441. women have

  442. to keep

  443. quiet.

  444. Well,

  445. before I get

  446. something thrown

  447. at me,

  448. we need to be

  449. very careful.

  450. I don't think

  451. that's exactly

  452. what it means.

  453. Three things

  454. in response

  455. to that.

  456. First,

  457. Paul is

  458. actually given

  459. instructions to

  460. all the

  461. church about

  462. being silent.

  463. So look back

  464. at verse 28.

  465. If there is

  466. no interpreter,

  467. the speaker

  468. should keep

  469. quiet in the

  470. church.

  471. In other

  472. words,

  473. be silent.

  474. It's the

  475. same in

  476. verse 30.

  477. And if a

  478. revelation or

  479. a prophecy

  480. comes to

  481. someone who

  482. is sitting

  483. down,

  484. well then

  485. the first

  486. speaker should

  487. stop.

  488. That is,

  489. be quiet,

  490. be silent.

  491. So it's

  492. not just

  493. women that

  494. are to be

  495. silent.

  496. We all

  497. need to

  498. learn to

  499. be silent

  500. and quiet.

  501. The second

  502. thing is,

  503. Paul actually

  504. does encourage

  505. women to

  506. speak.

  507. He's very

  508. clear about

  509. that.

  510. We saw

  511. that back

  512. in chapter

  513. 11,

  514. verse 5.

  515. You can

  516. flick back

  517. a page.

  518. It's a

  519. different

  520. situation,

  521. a different

  522. context.

  523. If you

  524. want the

  525. whole sermon,

  526. you can

  527. listen to

  528. it online.

  529. But just

  530. the first

  531. part of

  532. verse 5,

  533. chapter 11.

  534. And every

  535. woman who

  536. prays or

  537. prophesies.

  538. So the

  539. implication is

  540. that women

  541. are gifted

  542. just as

  543. much as

  544. men to

  545. pray and

  546. prophesy

  547. within the

  548. gathering of

  549. the church.

  550. There's no

  551. restriction.

  552. So why

  553. then, when we

  554. get to

  555. chapter 14,

  556. verse 34,

  557. are we

  558. reading women

  559. aren't allowed

  560. to speak?

  561. Has he

  562. forgotten what

  563. he's written?

  564. Is he a

  565. little bit

  566. confused?

  567. I don't

  568. think so.

  569. I think the

  570. answer thirdly

  571. comes in

  572. verse 35

  573. of chapter

  574. 14.

  575. If they,

  576. who are

  577. they?

  578. Well, in

  579. particular, I

  580. think the

  581. wives.

  582. If they

  583. want to

  584. inquire

  585. about

  586. something,

  587. they should

  588. ask their

  589. own husbands

  590. at home,

  591. for it was

  592. disgraceful for

  593. a woman to

  594. speak in the

  595. church.

  596. Now let me

  597. try and give

  598. a picture of

  599. what I think

  600. and what

  601. certainly some

  602. of the

  603. commentators

  604. point towards.

  605. The scene is

  606. probably something

  607. like this.

  608. A man would

  609. stand up to

  610. give a word of

  611. encouragement,

  612. an instruction,

  613. a prophecy.

  614. And then his

  615. wife would

  616. publicly start

  617. questioning or

  618. disagreeing with

  619. what he had to

  620. say.

  621. So husband and

  622. wife were having

  623. a little bit of

  624. a spat in the

  625. front row.

  626. Not only was

  627. that disrespectful

  628. to the husband

  629. whose role it

  630. was to lead,

  631. verse 35,

  632. we're told it

  633. was disgraceful.

  634. In other words,

  635. the questioning

  636. was bringing a

  637. disorder to the

  638. church,

  639. instead of

  640. building up

  641. the church.

  642. Look at the

  643. middle of verse

  644. 34.

  645. They, the

  646. wives, are not

  647. allowed to speak,

  648. but must be in

  649. submission as the

  650. law says.

  651. Well, what does

  652. the law say?

  653. What law is he

  654. referring to?

  655. Well, it's the

  656. law, the

  657. scriptures.

  658. And I think it's

  659. a reference back

  660. to Genesis

    Genesis 2 chapter mention

  661. chapter 2,

  662. where we learn

  663. that women

  664. and men

  665. are equal in

  666. value and

  667. worth before

  668. God, but

  669. they've been

  670. given different

  671. roles.

  672. The husband

  673. is to give

  674. loving,

  675. sacrificial care

  676. for his

  677. wife, to

  678. protect, to

  679. protect and to

  680. provide.

  681. He is to give

  682. of himself for

  683. his wife, to

  684. serve his

  685. wife.

  686. And the wife

  687. in response is

  688. to live in

  689. submission, that

  690. is to live under

  691. the loving and

  692. sacrificial care of

  693. the husband, which

  694. is to be a good

  695. and orderly care.

  696. So to start

  697. questioning and

  698. disagreeing in

  699. public was in

  700. some way a

  701. rejection of

  702. God's good and

  703. beautiful design

  704. for marriage.

  705. And that's

  706. why I think he

  707. gives this

  708. specific instruction

  709. here.

  710. So I think

  711. what we can

  712. take from all

  713. of this, we're

  714. all encouraged,

  715. women and

  716. men, we are

  717. all encouraged

  718. to pray and

  719. prophesy to

  720. one another for

  721. the building up

  722. of the church.

  723. And there are

  724. times when all

  725. men and

  726. women need

  727. to learn to

  728. be silent.

  729. As we gather

  730. together, it's

  731. not about me and

  732. what I want to

  733. have to say and

  734. what I want to

  735. have to share and

  736. give me the mic and

  737. let me say what I'm

  738. going to say.

  739. It's about respect

  740. for each other

  741. and letting others

  742. speak and letting

  743. them strengthen and

  744. encourage.

  745. and that

  746. everything we

  747. do, we do

  748. for the

  749. strengthening and

  750. building up of

  751. the church

  752. family.

  753. So, first, all

  754. our words should

  755. build up the

  756. church.

  757. The second, and

  758. it's a little bit

  759. shorter, all our

  760. words should be

  761. submitted to

  762. scripture.

  763. scripture.

  764. So, as we

  765. come together and

  766. somebody has a

  767. prophecy, does

  768. that mean we

  769. can say whatever

  770. we like?

  771. Well, I don't

  772. think prophecy is

  773. an excuse to

  774. share with the

  775. church anything

  776. that just pops

  777. into our mind and

  778. we can confidently

  779. stand before

  780. everybody and

  781. say, thus says

  782. the Lord, and

  783. out it comes.

  784. Verse 36.

  785. Did the word of

  786. God originate

  787. with you?

  788. Are you the

  789. source of

  790. everything that

  791. God has to

  792. say?

  793. Verse 36.

  794. Or are you the

  795. only people it

  796. has reached?

  797. Are we the

  798. last word on

  799. what God is

  800. and what God

  801. is not?

  802. Like, is it

  803. up to us?

  804. It seems to

  805. me that it's

  806. arrogant for

  807. us to think

  808. that our

  809. thoughts and

  810. our imaginations

  811. have the same

  812. authority as

  813. God's word,

  814. the Bible, and

  815. it's very

  816. dangerous to

  817. speak to other

  818. people as if

  819. your words are

  820. coming directly

  821. from God and

  822. your words should

  823. be obeyed.

  824. Two things, I

  825. think, will

  826. help us here.

  827. First, the

  828. authority of

  829. Scripture.

  830. Verse 37.

  831. If anybody, if

  832. anyone thinks he

  833. is a prophet or

  834. spiritually gifted,

  835. let him

  836. acknowledge that

  837. what I am

  838. writing to you

  839. is the

  840. Lord's

  841. command.

  842. So Paul is

  843. claiming that

  844. his words,

  845. he's written

  846. words to this

  847. church in

  848. Corinth, and

  849. the words that

  850. we are reading

  851. right now, he

  852. says, are the

  853. Lord's commands.

  854. In other words,

  855. what Paul is

  856. saying, God

  857. is saying.

  858. His words are

  859. Scripture, which

  860. is why we have

  861. them preserved and

  862. recorded for us

  863. today, and which

  864. is why we're

  865. reading them and

  866. looking at them.

  867. This is God's

  868. voice to us

  869. today.

  870. God's

  871. writing.

  872. And not

  873. God's

  874. responsibility to

  875. write Scripture.

  876. It was consigned, if

  877. you like, to the Old

  878. Testament prophets and the New

  879. Testament apostles. Their

  880. writing is God's word to

  881. us.

  882. So again, verse 37, if

  883. anyone thinks he's a

  884. prophet or spiritually

  885. gifted, let him

  886. acknowledge that what I am

  887. writing to you is the

  888. Lord's command.

  889. That means none of us

  890. can stand up and say,

  891. God has told me, or

  892. God has said.

  893. No, the only time that

  894. I could ever speak, or

  895. you could ever speak,

  896. with such authority, is

  897. when we're reading from

  898. the Bible, when we can

  899. stand up and say, this

  900. is what God says.

  901. We must be very wary of

  902. people who say things

  903. like this, God told

  904. me to tell you.

  905. Which means, secondly, we

  906. must test everything

  907. against Scripture.

  908. Verse 29.

  909. So he's talking about

  910. prophets. Two or three

  911. prophets should speak, and

  912. the other should weigh

  913. carefully what is said.

  914. So again, let's try and

  915. picture this. If someone

  916. brings a word of

  917. encouragement or

  918. instruction, well, the

  919. whole church has a

  920. responsibility.

  921. We should weigh what

  922. the other should weigh

  923. carefully what is said.

  924. That is, we should

  925. carefully discern if what

  926. they are saying is of

  927. God. And the best way to

  928. do that is to test it

  929. against Scripture.

  930. Is what the person's

  931. saying in agreement with

  932. Scripture? Or does it

  933. contradict what God has

  934. already said?

  935. Are the words that

  936. they're speaking to the

  937. church an application

  938. of Scripture?

  939. A principle that's

  940. taken, that's being

  941. applied to a specific

  942. situation?

  943. So, for example, today

  944. we're facing Brexit.

  945. What's going to happen?

  946. What's the future?

  947. Well, we speak God's

  948. Word.

  949. God's Word says, I am the

  950. Lord and there is no

  951. other.

  952. We can take refuge in

  953. this God.

  954. So is what they're saying

  955. in agreement with

  956. Scripture?

  957. Is it an application of

  958. Scripture?

  959. Regrettably, it's very

  960. common today for so-called

  961. prophets to tell people

  962. things like this.

  963. God has told me to tell

  964. you that you're going to

  965. be healed or that you

  966. will be successful.

  967. Well, the fact is that

  968. God has never, ever

  969. promised anywhere in

  970. His Word that guarantees

  971. that you will be healed

  972. of everything and that

  973. you'll be successful in

  974. everything.

  975. It's a lie.

  976. God can heal.

  977. God gives gifts of

  978. healing.

  979. But we must never, ever

  980. mess with people's lives

  981. by claiming God said.

  982. You see, we are not free

  983. to say whatever we like

  984. and stick a little

  985. spiritual God says at

  986. the beginning.

  987. That is both arrogant

  988. and dangerous.

  989. Verse 38.

  990. If he ignores this, if he

  991. ignores the Lord's

  992. command, that is,

  993. he himself will be

  994. ignored.

  995. We should test and weigh

  996. up everything carefully

  997. with what God has said.

  998. And if it is not in

  999. line, we should ignore

  1000. it completely and do

  1001. not entertain it.

  1002. So, as we gather

  1003. together, we come with

1004. all of our gifts that God

  1005. has given to us.

1006. And we use our words

1007. to build up the church.

  1008. Speaking words of truth,

  1009. encouragement, comfort,

1010. and making sure that all

1011. that we have to say

  1012. submits to the authority

  1013. of Scripture.

1014. For God is not a God of

1015. disorder, but a God of

  1016. peace.

  1017. let's pray together.

  1018. Let's pray together.
