  1. As you come to him, the living stone, rejected by men, but chosen by God and precious to him,

  2. you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood,

  3. offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.

  4. For in Scripture it says,

  5. See, I lay a stone in Zion, a chosen and precious cornerstone, and the one who trusts in him will never be put to shame.

  6. Now to you who believe, this stone is precious.

  7. But to those who do not believe, the stone the builders rejected has become the capstone.

  8. And the stone that causes men to stumble and a rock that makes them fall.

  9. They stumble because they disobey the message, which is also what they were destined for.

  10. Let's talk to God.

  11. We're going to pray and ask for God's help as we look at this text together.

  12. Let's pray.

  13. Father, we trust you that your word that we have just read and listened to is true and trustworthy.

  14. It is living and powerful.

  15. And so we pray that your word would do an effective and changing work in each of our lives.

  16. Father, we pray that as we come face to face with Jesus through this word,

  17. we would be a people who build our lives on the solid foundation of who Jesus is,

  18. and that we would live our lives in response to what he has done.

  19. Father, please change us.

  20. Please open up our eyes to see Jesus more clearly and understand who he is and what he has done.

  21. We ask this in Jesus' name.

  22. Amen.

  23. A couple were walking around a car boot sale.

  24. And as they walked around and surveyed the items,

  25. they picked up what was a very small, plain bowl,

  26. about the size of a breakfast bowl, for three dollars.

  27. Clearly, the seller had rejected it as a piece of worthless junk.

  28. To the buyers, however, it was something precious to them.

  29. And to them it had some kind of value.

  30. And they decided that they would have it valued.

  31. And they discovered that this three dollar bowl was worth about one to two hundred thousand dollars.

  32. They then decided they were going to take it to auction.

  33. And when it went to auction, it sold for a massive 2.2 million dollars.

  34. To one, it was rejected as useless.

  35. To another, it was chosen as precious.

  36. Now, for many people, Jesus Christ is seen as someone to reject.

  37. Have a look at verse 4, what we read together.

  38. Verse 4.

  39. As you come to him, that's as you come to Jesus,

  40. the living stone, rejected by men,

  41. but chosen by God and precious to him.

  42. Jesus was rejected.

  43. He was pushed aside, ignored, betrayed by everyone,

  44. and left to die on a cross.

  45. But in the eyes of God, he is chosen,

  46. and he is precious,

  47. with eternal value.

  48. Now, the point is,

  49. if we are followers of Jesus too,

  50. that's going to be our experience.

  51. That's going to be our story too.

  52. Let's read verse 4 again.

  53. As you come to him,

  54. as you come to Jesus,

  55. the living stone,

  56. rejected by men,

  57. but chosen by God and precious to him,

  58. you also like living stones.

  59. You see, to live as a Christian in this world,

  60. if you speak for Christian truth,

  61. if you stand up for Christian values,

  62. it means we will face rejection.

  63. To the world, if you are a Christian,

  64. you may feel like a stranger,

  65. an outsider,

  66. a nobody,

  67. irrelevant,

  68. outdated,

  69. and of no value.

  70. Nothing more than a rejected piece of junk.

  71. But in the eyes of God,

  72. you are chosen,

  73. and you are precious.

  74. Have a look back at chapter 1,

  75. verse 1.

  76. Look at what it says there,

  77. how it reminds us.

  78. Look how it starts,

  79. to God's elect,

  80. strangers in the world,

  81. scattered,

  82. verse 2,

  83. but who have been chosen

  84. according to the foreknowledge of God.

  85. We might be forsaken by friends,

  86. opposed by family,

  87. but always remember this,

  88. we are God's chosen people,

  89. loved and treasured like Jesus.

  90. In fact,

  91. what we are is God's chosen community,

  92. God's special people,

  93. God's representatives,

  94. here in this world.

  95. So let's see how this is true.

  96. How we are,

  97. on the one sense,

  98. rejected,

  99. but on the other side,

  100. chosen and precious.

  101. We're going to see this in three ways.

  102. First,

  103. as we look at the way in which

  104. Jesus builds his church.

  105. Let's read verse 4.

  106. As you come to him,

  107. that's Jesus,

  108. the living stone.

  109. Now that's a very strange way

  110. to talk about anybody,

  111. talk about them as a stone.

  112. Why is Jesus a living stone?

  113. Well,

  114. we're given a clue.

  115. If you look at verse 6,

  116. just a little bit further down.

  117. This is a quote

  118. from the prophet Isaiah.

  119. For in scripture it says,

  120. See,

  121. I lay a stone in Zion,

  122. or in Jerusalem,

  123. a chosen and precious cornerstone,

  124. and the one who trusts in him

  125. will never be put to shame.

  126. This is God's word

  127. through the prophet Isaiah.

  128. And it comes to Isaiah

  129. at a time

  130. when God's people were in exile,

  131. literally strangers in a foreign land.

  132. But there was a problem for them.

  133. There was no temple

  134. when they were in exile.

  135. The temple,

  136. you remember,

  137. was central to the people

  138. because it was through the temple

  139. and in the temple

  140. that they got to meet God.

  141. Here in the temple

  142. was where their sin was dealt with

  143. so that they could have access to God.

  144. So no temple,

  145. no God,

  146. and no relationship with God.

  147. And so the people

  148. cry out to God,

  149. How are we going to meet you?

  150. How are we going to know you?

  151. And God makes this promise.

  152. And the promise is,

  153. in verse 6,

  154. let's read it again,

  155. He says,

  156. See,

  157. I lay a stone in Zion,

  158. a chosen and precious cornerstone,

  159. and the one who trusts in him

  160. will never be put to shame.

  161. God is saying,

  162. I am going to build a new temple,

  163. but this new temple

  164. is not going to be

  165. a physical building

  166. made out of blocks and mortar,

  167. but this temple

  168. is going to be a person.

  169. I lay a chosen,

  170. a precious cornerstone.

  171. The one who trusts in him,

  172. in this stone,

  173. this cornerstone,

  174. will have life.

  175. And that's exactly

  176. what Peter is saying.

  177. Jesus is the cornerstone.

  178. The cornerstone,

  179. or verse 4,

  180. the living stone.

  181. It was the first stone

  182. that was put down

  183. in the foundation of a building,

  184. on which every other stone

  185. was laid.

  186. So the level had to be right,

  187. and the angle had to be right.

  188. It was the foundation

  189. and most important stone.

  190. And Peter is saying,

  191. Jesus is that stone.

  192. Jesus is the true foundation,

  193. the true temple.

  194. So if you want to know God,

  195. if you want to meet God,

  196. if you want to enjoy God,

  197. you don't go into a building

  198. that's made of blocks and mortar.

  199. You go to a person,

  200. and his name is Jesus.

  201. He is the living stone.

  202. The one who came into this world

  203. to die for you,

  204. to take the blame

  205. for the wrong things you've done.

  206. The one who rose again

  207. from the grave

  208. to defeat sin and death.

  209. He is the living stone,

  210. the foundation stone,

  211. the one who gives you

  212. an inheritance

  213. and a life

  214. that can never perish,

  215. spoil,

  216. or fade.

  217. How do we experience this life?

  218. Well, look what it says

  219. in verse 4.

  220. As you come to him,

  221. as you come to Jesus,

  222. as you trust in him,

  223. as you build your life

  224. on the foundation

  225. of his death

  226. and his resurrection,

  227. so you have life

  228. and life eternal.

  229. That's why

  230. those who turn to him

  231. are precious.

  232. But this building

  233. is for a purpose.

  234. The coming to Jesus

  235. is for a purpose.

  236. There's the first one,

  237. living stone,

  238. and the second,

  239. a spiritual house.

  240. So as we come to Jesus,

  241. look what happens

  242. in verse 5.

  243. You also,

  244. like living stones,

  245. are being built

  246. into a spiritual house

  247. to be a holy priesthood

  248. offering spiritual sacrifices

  249. acceptable to God

  250. through Jesus Christ.

  251. So you see,

  252. everyone

  253. who comes to Jesus

  254. and trusts in Jesus

  255. is built

  256. on the foundation

  257. of Jesus Christ.

  258. But not only that,

  259. we're built together

  260. by Jesus Christ.

  261. So if you can think

  262. of us gathered here today

  263. that each one of us,

  264. if we're trusting in Jesus,

  265. is like a block

  266. or a brick.

  267. And Jesus takes

  268. those blocks

  269. and those bricks,

  270. he builds us

  271. on the foundation

  272. of his life.

  273. And he builds us together

  274. so that we become,

  275. verse 5,

  276. a spiritual house.

  277. And a spiritual house

  278. is another way

  279. of talking about

  280. the temple.

  281. God's house.

  282. So as Jesus

  283. builds us together,

  284. we become

  285. the temple of God.

  286. we actually become

  287. the dwelling place

  288. where God lives

  289. by his spirit.

  290. So in a sense,

  291. as we gather here together

  292. as people who believe

  293. in Jesus,

  294. we are the dwelling place

  295. where God is.

  296. God is actually here

  297. right now,

  298. present with us

  299. by his spirit.

  300. Now that's going to be

  301. huge encouragement

  302. if we are facing rejection

  303. from friends or family.

  304. Here's what it means.

  305. First,

  306. no matter what opposition

  307. we might face

  308. as God's people,

  309. God is always

  310. with us.

  311. We're a spiritual house.

  312. We're built together

  313. where God lives

  314. by his Holy Spirit.

  315. That means that

  316. when I experience

  317. rejection

  318. as a Christian,

  319. God will not

  320. abandon me

  321. and he will not

  322. leave me

  323. to fend for myself.

  324. God sticks with us.

  325. He never leaves us.

  326. Wherever we go

  327. as his people,

  328. God goes with us

  329. because he is dwelling

  330. in us

  331. and with us.

  332. But the second thing,

  333. no matter what persecution

  334. we may face

  335. as God's people,

  336. God is still building

  337. up his church.

  338. His building project

  339. is not finished.

  340. God is still saving people

  341. who have rejected him

  342. and he's building them

  343. together to be

  344. his people.

  345. You know,

  346. when Peter wrote

  347. this letter

  348. in the first century,

  349. a few decades

  350. after he wrote it,

  351. being a Christian

  352. and meeting together

  353. as we are right now

  354. was an illegal act

  355. to do in the Roman Empire.

  356. You couldn't be a Christian

  357. and you couldn't

  358. meet together.

  359. And as a result,

  360. thousands of Christians

  361. were put to death.

  362. Some of them

  363. were set alight

  364. and used as human

  365. torches by Nero,

  366. covered in sheepskin

  367. and set amongst the lions

  368. for the entertainment

  369. of the crowd.

  370. And today,

  371. in many, many parts

  372. of the world,

  373. there are Christians

  374. who lose their life

  375. because they side

  376. with Jesus.

  377. People are facing rejection.

  378. But here's the good news

  379. and the encouragement.

  380. Jesus is still building

  381. his church.

  382. He was building it

  383. when Peter wrote it

  384. and he's building it today.

  385. People all over the world

  386. in Ireland

  387. and in Carigaline

  388. are still coming to Jesus

  389. and are being built together

  390. to become a spiritual house

  391. where God lives

  392. and dwells.

  393. Yes,

  394. life will be tough.

  395. Life will be difficult

  396. as a Christian.

  397. But God,

  398. through his son,

  399. Jesus Christ,

  400. is building his church.

  401. We are part

  402. of God's never-ending,

  403. ever-growing

  404. building project.

  405. So yes,

  406. we will face rejection.

  407. But remember,

  408. you are chosen.

  409. You are precious.

  410. You are part

  411. of God's

  412. eternal

  413. building.

  414. So that's the first thing

  415. that we look at.

  416. The second thing,

  417. Jesus is empowering

  418. his church.

  419. Have a look at verse 5.

  420. So you also,

  421. like living stones,

  422. are being built

  423. into a spiritual house

  424. to be a holy priesthood

  425. offering spiritual sacrifices

  426. acceptable to God

  427. through Jesus Christ.

  428. So God's people

  429. are a spiritual house

  430. and they are to offer

  431. spiritual sacrifices.

  432. Now,

  433. spiritual is,

  434. it's got a meaning here.

  435. It means to be

  436. influenced

  437. or to be

  438. controlled by

  439. the Holy Spirit.

  440. In other words,

  441. God's people

  442. are a spirit-filled,

  443. a spirit-empowered people.

  444. The very same

  445. spirit

  446. that rose

  447. Jesus

  448. from the dead

  449. is the same spirit

  450. and the same power

  451. that is alive

  452. and at work

  453. within God's people.

  454. So Jesus

  455. empowers

  456. his church

  457. to serve God

  458. in the world

  459. where they are.

  460. And we serve

  461. the Lord

  462. in two ways.

  463. First,

  464. he describes us

  465. as a holy priesthood.

  466. Again,

  467. look at verse 5.

  468. like you are being

  469. built into a spiritual house

  470. to be

  471. a holy priesthood.

  472. Have you ever

  473. thought of yourself

  474. as being a holy priesthood?

  475. Well,

  476. again,

  477. the language

  478. takes us back

  479. to the temple,

  480. to the Old Testament.

  481. And in the temple,

  482. the priests

  483. were given

  484. that special work.

  485. They were set apart

  486. from everybody else

  487. and they were dedicated

  488. to serve God

  489. in the temple.

  490. That was their life's work.

  491. In fact,

  492. through their serving,

  493. they were representing

  494. God to the people.

  495. They were like a mediator

  496. between God and people.

  497. What they did

  498. was make God

  499. known to the people.

  500. What God wanted to say,

  501. he said through the priests.

  502. What God wanted them to do,

  503. he said through the priests.

  504. God communicated,

  505. if you like,

  506. through them

  507. to the people.

  508. Now,

  509. we are God's

  510. holy priesthood.

  511. God's holy priesthood.

  512. We are set apart

  513. by God

  514. and dedicated

  515. to serve God.

  516. More specifically,

  517. we are to make

  518. God known

  519. to the people

  520. around us.

  521. That's the purpose

  522. of the church.

  523. We are to display

  524. God

  525. to the world.

  526. So,

  527. if somebody should

  528. come up and ask

  529. and they say,

  530. what's God like?

  531. I've never met God.

  532. Could you tell me

  533. what he's like?

  534. Well,

  535. part of that answer

  536. is to say,

  537. I tell you what,

  538. go and have a look

  539. at the church.

  540. Go and have a look

  541. at Carigoline Church.

  542. Look how the church

  543. lives.

  544. Listen to what

  545. the church says.

  546. Observe them

  547. in the way

  548. in which they behave.

  549. The way in which

  550. they interact.

  551. As people hear

  552. and see,

  553. they will begin

  554. to understand

  555. understand

  556. something

  557. of what God

  558. is like.

  559. So,

  560. as a holy priesthood,

  561. we are to display

  562. God to the world.

  563. As he empowers us

  564. and fills us

  565. with his Holy Spirit,

  566. he enables us

  567. and equips us

  568. to live

  569. as God's people

  570. to serve him

  571. where we are

  572. right now.

  573. So,

  574. he empowers

  575. his church.

  576. And,

  577. not only that,

  578. we are to be

  579. spiritual sacrifices.

  580. You see,

  581. the primary role

  582. of the priest

  583. was to offer

  584. sacrifices.

  585. That's what they did

  586. all day,

  587. every day.

  588. So,

  589. verse 5,

  590. we are to be

  591. a holy priesthood

  592. offering

  593. spiritual sacrifices

  594. to God.

  595. Now,

  596. we've got to be

  597. very clear here

  598. that we don't

  599. get confused.

  600. We're not called

  601. to make sacrifices

  602. to God

  603. so that God

  604. will accept us.

  605. No,

  606. Jesus is that

  607. perfect sacrifice

  608. for our sins.

  609. Have a look

  610. at chapter 3.

  611. So,

  612. you need to maybe

  613. flick over the page,

  614. I'm not sure,

  615. but chapter 3,

  616. the big 3,

  617. and then verse 18,

  618. which is the little 18.

  619. So,

  620. chapter 3,

  621. big 3,

  622. little 18.

  623. Here's what it says.

  624. It's talking about

  625. Jesus being the sacrifice.

  626. For Christ

  627. died for sins

  628. once for all,

  629. the righteous

  630. for the unrighteous

  631. to bring you to God.

  632. You see,

  633. when Jesus died,

  634. his sacrifice

  635. was for us

  636. on our behalf.

  637. It was perfect,

  638. it was complete,

  639. it was sufficient.

  640. when Jesus died,

  641. that was enough.

  642. He died for all

  643. of our sin,

  644. past,

  645. present,

  646. and future,

  647. to bring people

  648. like us

  649. into a relationship

  650. with God.

  651. Go back to chapter 2.

  652. So,

  653. we're not to make

  654. a kind of sacrifice

  655. to try and get God

  656. to accept us

  657. and to earn

  658. his approval.

  659. No,

  660. in the light

  661. of what Jesus

  662. has done for us,

  663. because Jesus

  664. was that true sacrifice,

  665. in response,

  666. we offer ourselves

  667. as,

  668. as if you like,

  669. a living sacrifice

  670. to God.

  671. Through

  672. Jesus Christ.

  673. It's because

  674. of what Jesus

  675. has done

  676. that we can now

  677. offer ourselves

  678. to God

  679. as a sacrifice.

  680. And how do we

  681. offer ourselves

  682. to God?

  683. How are we going

  684. to be a living

  685. sacrifice?

  686. Well,

  687. as the role

  688. of the priest

  689. was to do,

  690. it's to make

  691. God known

  692. in the world.

  693. That's our sacrifice.

  694. Our sacrifice

  695. is to display

  696. the goodness

  697. and greatness

  698. of God

  699. through what we say

  700. and how we live.

  701. We'll get more

  702. into this next week.

  703. But as we go,

  704. as we disperse

  705. from this gathering here,

  706. as we go

  707. to our workplace,

  708. as we go back

  709. to our families,

  710. as we go to college,

  711. as we hang out

  712. with our mates,

  713. we are going

  714. as a holy priesthood,

  715. representing God

  716. where we are,

  717. being spiritual sacrifices,

  718. showing people

  719. the goodness

  720. and the greatness

  721. of God.

  722. God's people,

  723. as we step out

  724. in faith

  725. as God's people,

  726. as his representatives,

  727. the spirit

  728. will equip us

  729. and enable us

  730. to represent him

  731. and to live for him

  732. in the world

  733. in which we live.

  734. yes,

  735. we will face rejection.

  736. Yes,

  737. it will be hard.

  738. But he fills us

  739. with his spirit

  740. and with his power

  741. to enable us

  742. to keep on going.

  743. So,

  744. he builds his church,

  745. he empowers his church,

  746. and Jesus honours

  747. his church.

  748. Let's read verse 6,

  749. that quote from Isaiah.

  750. For in scripture it says,

  751. See,

  752. I lay a stone in Zion,

  753. a chosen

  754. and precious

  755. cornerstone.

  756. Jesus,

  757. as we've seen,

  758. is that chosen

  759. cornerstone.

  760. His death for us,

  761. his resurrection for us,

  762. is the foundation

  763. for our lives.

  764. And if we build

  765. our life on Jesus,

  766. if we align ourselves

  767. to his level

  768. and to that angle,

  769. if we commit ourselves

  770. to him,

  771. we are going to face

  772. opposition

  773. and rejection.

  774. That's the big message

  775. of Peter.

  776. If you side with Jesus,

  777. if you follow him,

  778. if you identify with him,

  779. you will get hit.

  780. But,

  781. look at the rest

  782. of verse 6.

  783. Jesus died

  784. and the one

  785. who trusts

  786. in him

  787. will never

  788. be put to shame.

  789. Jesus died

  790. a shameful death.

  791. Mocked,

  792. ridiculed,

  793. laughed at.

  794. He hung

  795. on the cross

  796. alone.

  797. The whole world

  798. shamed him.

  799. But he was raised

  800. in glory

  801. and honour.

  802. And what Peter

  803. is saying to us

  804. is,

  805. so that will be

  806. for you.

  807. We may suffer

  808. shame now.

  809. We may suffer

  810. all kinds of struggles,

  811. but we will be

  812. raised in glory

  813. and honour.

  814. Yes,

  815. you may experience

  816. isolation at work.

  817. Yes,

  818. you may feel

  819. like a stranger

  820. among friends.

  821. But those

  822. who trust

  823. in Jesus

  824. will never

  825. be put to shame.

  826. in fact,

  827. we will be

  828. honoured.

  829. Look at verse 7.

  830. Now to you

  831. who believe,

  832. this stone

  833. is precious.

  834. Now,

  835. I just want us

  836. to take a step

  837. back from this

  838. and just

  839. be clear

  840. as to what

  841. this is saying.

  842. It can also

  843. be read,

  844. verse 7,

  845. so the honour

  846. is yours

  847. for those

  848. who believe.

  849. So the honour

  850. is yours

  851. for those

  852. who believe.

  853. So let me read

  854. the end of verse 6

  855. again

  856. and the beginning

  857. of verse 7

  858. so you get the flow.

  859. Okay,

  860. here we go,

  861. the end of verse 6.

  862. And the one

  863. who trusts in him

  864. will never

  865. be put to shame,

  866. so the honour

  867. is yours

  868. for those

  869. who believe.

  870. His point

  871. is this,

  872. that one day

  873. the risen Lord

  874. Jesus

  875. is going to

  876. return

  877. and all those

  878. who have honoured

  879. Jesus in this

  880. life,

  881. well,

  882. Jesus will in turn

  883. honour you.

  884. You can think

  885. of the great big

  886. medal processions

  887. that you see

  888. in the Olympics

  889. where the music

  890. sounds,

  891. the trumpet

  892. blasts

  893. and the winner

  894. comes out

  895. into the middle

  896. of the stadium

  897. and stands

  898. on top

  899. of the podium

  900. and receives

  901. the gold medal

  902. and the music

  903. is played

  904. and the whole

  905. stadium cheers

  906. and sees

  907. that this one

  908. above everybody

  909. else is honoured.

  910. And in a sense

  911. it will be

  912. something like that,

  913. that God

  914. will gather

  915. all his people

  916. before a watching

  917. world,

  918. all those

  919. that stood

  920. against us,

  921. all those

  922. that were

  923. opposed to Christ

  924. will watch

  925. and see

  926. God's people

  927. being honoured

  928. by the King

  929. of Kings.

  930. Instead of shame,

  931. glory.

  932. Instead of rejection,

  933. honour.

  934. there.

  935. But that's

  936. not all.

  937. Those

  938. who have

  939. taken

  940. the other

  941. side,

  942. those who

  943. have

  944. rejected

  945. God's

  946. people

  947. and rejected

  948. Jesus Christ,

  949. those who've

  950. been honoured

  951. by the world

  952. because they

  953. stood opposed

  954. to Jesus,

  955. will they

  956. in turn

  957. will be

  958. shamed

  959. before Jesus.

  960. Look at the

  961. rest of

  962. verse 7.

  963. But to

  964. those who

  965. do not

  966. believe,

  967. the stone

  968. the builders

  969. rejected

  970. has become

  971. the capstone.

  972. The world

  973. which rejected

  974. Jesus,

  975. mocked him,

  976. laughed him,

  977. ridiculed him.

  978. The world

  979. which rejected

  980. God's people,

  981. shamed them

  982. and persecuted

  983. them,

  984. will in turn

  985. be rejected

  986. by Jesus.

  987. Instead of

  988. receiving glory,

  989. it will be

  990. shame.

  991. Instead of

  992. honour,

  993. it will be

  994. judgment.

  995. You see,

  996. Jesus,

  997. the living

  998. stone,

  999. confronts

  1000. each one

  1001. of us

  1002. today.

  1003. Look at

  1004. verse 8.

  1005. He is a

  1006. stone that

  1007. causes men

  1008. to stumble

  1009. and a rock

  1010. that makes

  1011. them fall.

  1012. He stands

  1013. before us,

  1014. if you like,

  1015. this morning

  1016. as a great

  1017. big stone

  1018. that we must

  1019. deal with,

  1020. that's right

  1021. in our path

  1022. as we walk

  1023. through life.

  1024. That stone

  1025. is before us.

  1026. And Jesus

  1027. is either going

  1028. to be the

  1029. foundation stone

  1030. of your life,

  1031. you will

  1032. either trust

  1033. in his death

  1034. and resurrection

  1035. for you,

  1036. or you will

  1037. decide to

  1038. discard that

  1039. stone and

  1040. say,

  1041. no,

  1042. I'm going

  1043. to build

  1044. my own

  1045. life my

  1046. own way.

  1047. So that

  1048. stone will

  1049. either be

  1050. your foundation

  1051. or that

  1052. stone will

  1053. either crush

  1054. you or

  1055. break you.

  1056. Look at

  1057. the end of

  1058. verse 8.

  1059. They stumble

  1060. because they

  1061. disobey the

  1062. message,

  1063. which is also

  1064. what they were

  1065. destined for.

  1066. So as we

  1067. are confronted

  1068. with Jesus,

  1069. it is a

  1070. case of

  1071. saying,

  1072. well I'm

  1073. going my

  1074. own way

  1075. or I'm

  1076. building my

  1077. life on

  1078. him.

  1079. You see,

  1080. to some,

  1081. Jesus is

  1082. just a

  1083. worthless

  1084. piece of

  1085. junk,

  1086. an old

  1087. item that

  1088. you see

  1089. in a car

  1090. boot sale

  1091. of no

  1092. value,

  1093. of no

  1094. worth.

  1095. But to

  1096. God,

  1097. he is

  1098. chosen

  1099. and

  1100. precious,

  1101. the one

  1102. who died

  1103. for you,

  1104. the one

  1105. who rose

  1106. again from

  1107. the grave

  1108. for you.

  1109. And the

  1110. story of

  1111. Jesus and

  1112. the experience

  1113. of Jesus is

  1114. going to be

  1115. your story

  1116. and your

  1117. experience.

  1118. Because to

  1119. be a

  1120. Christian in

  1121. this world

  1122. will mean

  1123. that you

  1124. will be

  1125. disowned,

  1126. you will

  1127. be rejected,

  1128. you will

  1129. be pushed

  1130. aside.

  1131. But,

  1132. you are

  1133. God's

  1134. chosen

  1135. and precious

  1136. people.

  1137. Jesus died

  1138. for you.

  1139. He rose

  1140. for you.

  1141. He will

  1142. not let

  1143. you go.

  1144. You will

  1145. not be

  1146. shamed by

  1147. him.

  1148. You will

  1149. be honoured

  1150. by him.

  1151. You will

  1152. be raised

  1153. in glory

  1154. just as

  1155. Jesus was

  1156. raised in

  1157. glory.

  1158. So,

  1159. what will

  1160. we do

  1161. with this

  1162. stone,

  1163. this living

  1164. stone?

  1165. Will we

  1166. build our

  1167. life on

  1168. the

  1169. foundation?

  1170. Or are

  1171. we going

  1172. to ignore

  1173. it and

  1174. be crushed

  1175. by him?

  1176. Rejected

  1177. by men,

  1178. but chosen

  1179. by God

  1180. and precious

  1181. to him.

  1182. You decide.

  1183. Let's

  1184. pray.

  1185. Let's

  1186. pray.

  1187. Let's

  1188. pray.

  1189. Let's

  1190. pray.

  1191. Let's

  1192. pray.

  1193. Let's

  1194. pray.

  1195. Father,

  1196. thank you

  1197. for

  1198. Jesus.

  1199. Thank you

  1200. for his

  1201. death

  1202. for us.

  1203. Thank you

  1204. for his

  1205. resurrection

  1206. from the

  1207. grave,

  1208. defeating

  1209. death,

  1210. destroying

  1211. the grave

  1212. and giving

  1213. life to

  1214. all who

  1215. will

  1216. trust in

  1217. him.

  1218. Father,

  1219. help us

  1220. that we

  1221. would build

  1222. our life

  1223. on the

  1224. Lord Jesus,

  1225. that we

  1226. would level

  1227. our lives

  1228. to him,

  1229. that we

  1230. would angle

  1231. ourselves

  1232. to him,

  1233. that he

  1234. would be

  1235. our rock,

  1236. that we

  1237. would not

  1238. turn from

  1239. him.

  1240. And

  1241. Father,

  1242. would you

  1243. please help

  1244. us to

  1245. remember that

  1246. just as

  1247. Jesus was

  1248. rejected,

  1249. we too

  1250. will be

  1251. rejected.

  1252. But help

  1253. us to

  1254. remember that

  1255. just as he

  1256. is chosen

  1257. and precious,

  1258. so we

  1259. are your

  1260. chosen and

  1261. precious people,

  1262. loved by

  1263. you and

  1264. cared for by

  1265. you.

  1266. Father,

  1267. help us to

  1268. walk with

  1269. you today.

  1270. We ask

  1271. this in

  1272. Jesus'

  1273. name.

  1274. Amen.
