  11. ground for it is for it is the time to seek the lord that he may come and rain righteousness upon you

  12. you have clouded iniquity you have reaped injustice you have eaten the fruit of lies because you have

  13. trusted in your own way and in the multitude of your warriors therefore the tumult of word of war shall arise

  15. shulman shulman shulman's destroyed bet arbel on the day of battle mothers were dashed in pieces

  17. adorn the king of israel shall be utterly cut off amen

  18. thanks very much kevin

  19. well let's pray

  20. father as we come to your word as we hear your voice

  21. it is our desire that we would grow grow in our relationship with you that we would all flourish

  22. that we would all become more fruitful

  23. enjoying you knowing you and becoming like you

  24. father may not one of us leave

  25. without you doing an effective work

  26. in our hearts today

  27. grow us

  28. make us more like yourself

  29. in jesus we pray

  30. amen

  31. well i wonder if you can remember your first date

  32. the first time that you met your prospective husband or wife

  33. what did he or she say to you

  34. please don't say

  35. you're the most beautiful person i've ever met

  36. you're my dreams come true

  37. or maybe you're still waiting for your first date and you're wondering

  38. what will i say

  39. well let me give you a knockout guaranteed chat up line

  40. here it is

  41. finding you

  42. was like finding a bunch of grapes

  43. or what about this one

  44. you're like a big

  45. ripe fig

  46. not very romantic is it

  47. and you might get a slap in your face for your troubles

  48. but this is the love language that god uses

  49. when he married his wife israel

  50. have a look at chapter 9 verse 10

  51. chapter 9 verse 10

  52. when i found israel

  53. it was like finding grapes

  54. in the desert

  55. you could imagine walking through a dry

  56. hot desert

  57. you're tired

  58. thirsty

  59. and weak

  60. and then you stumble upon this small oasis

  61. and growing all around is this vine

  62. full of delicious grapes

  63. how satisfying

  64. pleasing and refreshing

  65. to find those grapes

  66. that's how it was when god

  67. came to israel

  68. or look at the rest of verse 10

  69. he says when i saw your fathers

  70. it was like seeing the early fruit

  71. on the fig tree

  72. a farmer

  73. watches and waits for his crop

  74. longing for the harvest

  75. but knowing it's going to be another few months

  76. till there's any fruit

  77. but to his surprise

  78. he finds there's already ripe figs

  79. on the tree

  80. it's not the kind of language we use

  81. but this is the love language god uses

  82. as he remembers

  83. as he looks back to that day

  84. when he married his people

  85. his thirst to show love was quenched

  86. when he found them and rescued them

  87. his longing for that relationship was fulfilled

  88. when he chose them

  89. to be his very own people

  90. and it only seemed to get better

  91. look at chapter 10 verse 1

  92. Israel was a spreading vine

  93. he brought forth fruit for himself

  94. god nurtured the marriage

  95. provided for it

  96. cared for it

  97. and it flourished

  98. and his bride responded in faithfulness and obedience

  99. these were the best of days

  100. these were good days

  101. and it all pictures how god longs and thirsts for us

  102. to be in relationship with him

  103. to know him

  104. to enjoy him

  105. to experience his love

  106. that is god's desire for us

  107. but israel's marriage to god

  108. it did not last

  109. look at the rest of chapter 10 verse 1

  110. as his fruit increased

  111. he built more altars

  112. as his land prospered

  113. he adorned his sacred stones

  114. that was the place of worship

  115. to foreign gods

  116. so rather than give thanks to god

  117. their faithful husband

  118. for all his provision and care

  119. they began to turn away

  120. and serve other gods

  121. chase after other lovers

  122. building altars

  123. and places of sacrifices

  124. rather than a heart of love and loyalty

  125. look at verse 2

  126. their heart is deceitful

  127. and now they must bear their guilt

  128. the lord will demolish their altars

  129. and destroy their sacred stones

  130. it was a marriage that had started so well

  131. but now lies in tatters

  132. broken and ruined

  133. and i think the heart of this message

  134. from chapters 9 and 10 is this

  135. that if we do not cultivate

  136. our marriage with god

  137. if we don't nurture

  138. that marriage relationship

  139. it's in danger

  140. it's in danger

  141. of going the same

  142. way

  143. so two big ideas

  144. we're going to look at this morning

  145. the first is this

  146. reaping

  147. an unfaithful

  148. marriage

  149. this is the fruit

  150. of an unfaithful marriage

  151. chapter 9

  152. verse 1

  153. israel thought themselves

  154. quite good

  155. and grown up

  156. they didn't need god

  157. they would live a life

  158. without him

  159. so god says to them

  160. chapter 9

  161. verse 1

  162. do not rejoice

  163. o israel

  164. do not be jubilant

  165. like the other nations

  166. for you have been

  167. unfaithful

  168. to your god

  169. there's nothing to be gained

  170. by pushing god

  171. out of the marriage

  172. in fact

  173. it will lead to

  174. a return to slavery

  175. look at verse 3

  176. of chapter 9

  177. god says

  178. they will not remain

  179. in the lord's land

  180. ephraim

  181. that is

  182. god's people

  183. israel

  184. will return to egypt

  185. and eat

  186. unclean food

  187. in assyria

  188. egypt of course

  189. is a symbol

  190. for slavery

  191. remember

  192. that's

  193. what israel

  194. were

  195. before god

  196. had rescued

  197. them

  198. and married

  199. them

  200. they were

  201. slaves

  202. in a foreign

  203. land

  204. exodus

  205. records

  206. what it was

  207. like

  208. this comes

  209. from exodus

    Exodus 1:11

  210. chapter 1

  211. verse 11

  212. so they put

  213. slave masters

  214. over them

  215. to oppress

  216. them

  217. with forced

  218. labor

  219. they made

  220. their lives

  221. bitter

  222. with hard

  223. labor

  224. in brick

  225. and mortar

  226. and with

  227. all kinds

  228. of work

  229. in the fields

  230. in all

  231. their hard

  232. labor

  233. the egyptians

  234. used them

  235. ruthlessly

  236. during that

  237. long period

  238. which was

  239. 400 years

  240. of slavery

  241. the king

  242. of egypt

  243. died

  244. the israelites

  245. groaned in

  246. their slavery

  247. and cried out

  248. and their cry

  249. for help

  250. because of

  251. their slavery

  252. went up

  253. to god

  254. now says

  255. god

  256. if you

  257. walk out

  258. on the

  259. marriage

  260. it would

  261. be like

  262. walking

  263. straight

  264. back

  265. into

  266. slavery

  267. all over

  268. again

  269. verse 3

  270. ephraim

  271. will return

  272. to egypt

  273. and eat

  274. the unclean

  275. food

  276. of assyria

  277. they might

  278. not go back

  279. to physical

  280. egypt

  281. in fact

  282. assyria

  283. the great

  284. nation

  285. is going

  286. to come

  287. in and

  288. take them

  289. away to

  290. be slaves

  291. somewhere

  292. else

  293. verse 6

  294. even if

  295. they escape

  296. from destruction

  297. egypt

  298. will gather

  299. them

  300. and memphis

  301. will bury

  302. them

  303. memphis

  304. of course

  305. was the

  306. huge

  307. graveyard

  308. in egypt

  309. that was

  310. reserved

  311. for all

  312. the slaves

  313. who had

  314. died

  315. so either

  316. you would

  317. be a slave

  318. or he's

  319. saying you

  320. are going

  321. to die

  322. a slave

  323. walking

  324. out on

  325. god

  326. will be

  327. like

  328. walking

  329. straight

  330. back

  331. into a

  332. life of

  333. slavery

  334. under a

  335. cruel

  336. harsh

  337. master

  338. leaving

  339. your

  340. faithful

  341. loyal

  342. husband

  343. and turning

  344. back to

  345. something

  346. that will

  347. be a

  348. burden

  349. to you

  350. you see

  351. it's really

  352. no different

  353. for us

  354. because

  355. in a

  356. greater

  357. way

  358. we have

  359. been

  360. rescued

  361. by

  362. jesus

  363. from

  364. our

  365. slavery

  366. to

  367. sin

  368. and

  369. brought

  370. into

  371. a

  372. wonderful

  373. vibrant

  374. relationship

  375. with the

  376. lord

  377. jesus

  378. the

  379. apostle

  380. paul

  381. explains

  382. it like

  383. this

  384. when

  385. you

  386. were

  387. slaves

  388. to

  389. sin

  390. you

  391. were

  392. free

  393. from

  394. the

  395. control

  396. of

  397. righteousness

  398. in other

  399. words

  400. you were

  401. not

  402. free

  403. to

  404. choose

  405. to do

  406. what

  407. was

  408. right

  409. and

  410. good

  411. you

  412. would

  413. only

  414. live

  415. a

  416. life

  417. that

  418. was

  419. wrong

  420. a

  421. life

  422. that

  423. was

  424. away

  425. from

  426. god

  427. but

  428. now

  429. because

  430. of

  431. jesus

  432. you've

  433. been

  434. set

  435. free

  436. from

  437. sin

  438. and

  439. have

  440. become

  441. slaves

  442. to

  443. god

  444. you're

  445. under

  446. a

  447. new

  448. master

  449. and

  450. the

  451. benefit

  452. of

  453. living

  454. under

  455. this

  456. master

  457. is

  458. you

  459. will

  460. reap

  461. lives

  462. that

  463. lead

  464. to

  465. holiness

  466. and

  467. the

  468. result

  469. the

  470. fruit

  471. will

  472. be

  473. eternal

  474. life

  475. you

  476. see

  477. to

  478. walk

  479. out

  480. on

  481. our

  482. marriage

  483. to

  484. walk

  485. away

  486. from

  487. the

  488. lord

  489. is

  490. to

  491. walk

  492. straight

  493. back

  494. into

  495. a

  496. life

  497. of

  498. slavery

  499. to

  500. sin

  501. it's

  502. to

  503. live

  504. under

  505. a

  506. cruel

  507. harsh

  508. master

  509. who

  510. will

  511. condemn

  512. you

  513. and

  514. never

  515. forgive

  516. you

  517. but

  518. not

  519. only

  520. will

  521. it

  522. be

  523. a

  524. life

  525. of

  526. slavery

  527. it

  528. will

  529. be

  530. a

  531. life

  532. of

  533. sorrow

  534. Hosea

    Hosea 9:10

  535. chapter

  536. 9

  537. verse

  538. 10

  539. when

  540. I

  541. found

  542. Israel

  543. it

  544. was

  545. like

  546. finding

  547. grapes

  548. in

  549. the

  550. desert

  551. it's

  552. a

  553. reminder

  554. of

  555. God's

  556. first

  557. love

  558. for

  559. his

  560. bride

  561. Israel

  562. but

  563. look

  564. what

  565. they

  566. did

  567. follow

  568. down

  569. the

  570. rest

  571. of

  572. verse

  573. 10

  574. but

  575. when

  576. they

  577. came

  578. to

  579. Baal

  580. Peor

  581. they

  582. consecrated

  583. themselves

  584. to that

  585. shameful

  586. idol

  587. and

  588. became

  589. as

  590. vile

  591. as

  592. the

  593. thing

  594. they

  595. loved

  596. you

  597. you

  598. know

  599. one

  600. of

  601. the

  602. first

  603. places

  604. that

  605. God's

  606. people

  607. came

  608. to

  609. when

  610. he

  611. rescued

  612. them

  613. out

  614. of

  615. Egypt

  616. was

  617. to

  618. a

  619. place

  620. called

  621. Peor

  622. but

  623. instead

  624. of

  625. remaining

  626. faithful

  627. to

  628. God

  629. at

  630. this

  631. place

  632. the

  633. men

  634. began

  635. to

  636. marry

  637. the

  638. local

  639. women

  640. who

  641. would

  642. seduce

  643. them

  644. into

  645. worshipping

  646. other

  647. gods

  648. Baal

  649. that's

  650. why

  651. it

  652. became

  653. called

  654. Baal

  655. Peor

  656. and

  657. the

  658. book

  659. of

  660. Numbers

  661. goes

  662. into

  663. great

  664. detail

  665. to

  666. explain

  667. what

  668. happened

  669. God

  670. sent

  671. a

  672. plague

  673. upon

  674. them

  675. and

  676. 24,000

  677. people

  678. died

  679. death

  680. was

  681. everywhere

  682. now

  683. God

  684. is

  685. saying

  686. to

  687. the

  688. people

  689. all

  690. these

  691. years

  692. later

  693. if

  694. you

  695. forsake

  696. me

  697. to

  698. walk

  699. out

  700. on

  701. the

  702. marriage

  703. will

  704. be

  705. like

  706. walking

  707. back

  708. into

  709. a

  710. life

  711. of

  712. sorrow

  713. it

  714. will

  715. be

  716. like

  717. a

  718. return

  719. to

  720. Baal

  721. Peor

  722. look

  723. at

  724. verse

  725. 11

  726. Ephraim's

  727. glory

  728. will

  729. fly

  730. away

  731. like

  732. a

  733. bird

  734. no

  735. birth

  736. no

  737. pregnancy

  738. no

  739. conception

  740. even

  741. if

  742. they

  743. bring

  744. up

  745. children

  746. I

  747. will

  748. bereave

  749. them

  750. of

  751. everyone

  752. woe

  753. to

  754. them

  755. when

  756. I

  757. turn

  758. away

  759. from

  760. them

  761. God

  762. is

  763. saying

  764. these

  765. Assyrians

  766. will

  767. come

  768. in

  769. they

  770. will

  771. take

  772. you

  773. away

  774. to

  775. be

  776. slaves

  777. but

  778. more

  779. than

  780. that

  781. it

  782. will

  783. be

  784. so

  785. harsh

  787. so

  790. they

  791. will

  792. even

  793. wipe

  794. out

  795. the

  796. women

  797. and

  798. the

  804. the

  806. will

  808. unbearable

  809. you

  810. see

  811. to

  812. walk

  813. out

  814. on

  815. God

  816. to

  817. walk

  818. out

  819. on

  820. the

  822. is

  823. to

  824. walk

  825. out

  828. into

  829. death

  830. not

  831. just

  832. physical

  833. death

  834. death

  835. but

  836. eternal

  837. death

  838. a

  839. separation

  840. from the

  841. beauty

  842. and goodness

  843. of life

  844. itself

  845. sorrow

  846. for all

  847. eternity

  848. not

  849. just

  850. slavery

  851. not

  852. just

  853. sorrow

  854. but

  855. it

  856. will

  857. be

  858. a

  859. reversal

  860. of

  861. blessing

  862. when

  863. Assyria

  864. the

  867. comes

  868. in

  869. chapter

  870. 10

  871. verse

  872. 7

  873. Samaria

  874. and

  875. its

  876. king

  877. will

  878. float

  879. away

  880. like

  881. a

  900. of

  901. Israel

  902. thorns

  903. and

  904. thistles

  905. will

  906. grow

  907. up

  908. and

  909. cover

  910. their

  912. now

  913. whenever

  914. we come

  915. across

  916. thorns

  917. and

  918. thistles

  919. in the

  920. bible

  921. it's

  922. always

  923. speaking

  924. of

  925. curse

  926. rather

  927. than

  928. blessing

  929. remember

  930. what

  931. God

  932. said

  933. to

  934. Adam

  935. at

  936. the

  937. very

  938. beginning

  939. when

  940. Adam

  941. exchanged

  942. the

  943. love

  944. of

  945. God

  946. for

  947. the

  948. lies

  949. of

  950. Satan

  951. God

  952. said

  953. cursed

  954. is the

  955. ground

  956. because

  957. of

  958. you

  959. through

  960. painful

  961. toil

  962. you

  963. will

  964. eat

  965. of

  966. it

  967. all

  968. the

  969. days

  970. of

  971. your

  972. life

  973. it

  974. will

  975. produce

  976. thorns

  977. and

  978. thistles

  979. for

  980. you

  981. so

  982. instead

  983. of

  984. blessing

  985. there

  986. will

  987. be

  988. a

  989. curse

  990. and

  991. that's

  992. what

  993. Israel

  994. are

  995. going

  996. to

  997. experience

  998. when

  999. they

  1000. walk

  1003. God

  1004. the

  1008. enjoyed

  1009. that

  1014. enjoyed

  1015. his

  1017. blessings

  1018. is

  1019. going

  1020. to

  1021. be

  1022. overrun

  1023. by

  1024. thorns

  1025. and

  1026. thistles

  1027. it

  1028. will

  1029. be

  1030. so

  1031. awful

  1036. of

  1061. God

  1062. is

  1063. trying

  1064. to

  1274. rather

  1275. die

  1281. an

  1282. eternity

  1283. of

  1284. slavery

  1285. and sorrow and curse.

  1286. Verse 17,

1287. For the great day of their wrath has come,

  1288. and who can stand?

1289. And who of us can stand?

  1290. Because like Israel,

1291. we've all pushed God out of the marriage.

  1292. We've all said,

1293. No, I can do things my way.

1294. We've all exchanged God for other things

  1295. and other people

1296. and chased after other lovers

1297. looking for joy and happiness.

1298. So how will any of us stand?

1299. Well, have a look at Revelation 7, verse 9.

    Revelation 7:9

  1300. Revelation 7, verse 9.

    Revelation 7:9

1301. Here we get another picture.

1302. Again, the risen Lord Jesus has come.

  1303. Verse 9,

  1304. After this,

1305. I looked and there before me

  1306. was a great multitude

1307. that no one could count

1308. from every nation, tribe, people and language.

1309. And look what they're doing.

  1310. They are standing

  1311. before the throne

1312. and in front of the Lamb.

1313. How can they do that?

1314. How can they be standing?

  1315. How can they face

  1316. this risen Lord Jesus?

  1317. Well, we're told

1318. they were wearing white robes.

1319. And what were their white robes?

1320. Well, look down at verse 13.

1321. One of the elders asked me,

1322. These in the white robes,

  1323. who are they

1324. and where did they come from?

  1325. I answered,

  1326. Sir, you know.

  1327. And he said,

  1328. These are they

  1329. who have come out

  1330. of the great tribulation.

1331. They have gone through the judgment.

  1332. They've passed through it.

  1333. Why?

1334. Because they have washed their robes

  1335. and made them white

1336. in the blood of the Lamb.

  1337. Therefore,

1338. they are before the throne of God

  1339. and they serve Him

1340. day and night in His temple.

1341. And He who sits on the throne

1342. will spread His tent over them.

1343. Never again will they hunger.

1344. Never again will they thirst.

1345. The sun will not beat upon them

  1346. nor any scorching heat.

  1347. No more slavery.

  1348. No more sorrow.

  1349. No more curse.

  1350. They have gone through.

  1351. They have escaped

  1352. because they have trusted

1353. in the Lord Jesus Christ.

  1354. We can stand

1355. even though we have failed

1356. because of what Christ has done

  1357. for us.

  1358. So,

  1359. He says,

  1360. Watch out

  1361. if we are living

  1362. in an unfaithful marriage

  1363. with the Lord.

  1364. So second,

  1365. we need to cultivate

  1366. therefore a fruitful marriage.

  1367. Go back to Hosea.

  1368. You see,

1369. if we are to avoid

1370. a broken marriage with God,

  1371. we must learn

  1372. to cultivate

  1373. the marriage.

1374. So let me show you

  1375. three ways

  1376. we can do this.

1377. What it is to cultivate

  1378. a fruitful marriage.

  1379. Here's the first one.

  1380. Break open

  1381. our hard hearts.

  1382. Look at chapter 10,

  1383. verse 11.

  1384. Ephraim,

  1385. again,

  1386. that's

  1387. description of Israel.

  1388. Ephraim is a trained

  1389. heifer

  1390. that loves to thresh,

  1391. loves to bounce about

  1392. on the corn

1393. and thresh the corn out.

  1394. So God says,

  1395. I will put a yoke

  1396. on her fair neck.

  1397. I will drive

  1398. Ephraim.

  1399. Judah must plough

  1400. and Jacob

  1401. must break up

  1402. the ground.

  1403. Ephraim,

  1404. Judah,

  1405. Jacob,

1406. well these were all names

  1407. for God's people

  1408. and he's calling them

  1409. to plough the ground

  1410. of their hard hearts.

  1411. Just as a farmer

  1412. would put the yoke

  1413. on his cow

  1414. and head it off

  1415. into the field,

  1416. so the people

  1417. must set about

  1418. the hard work

  1419. of breaking up

  1420. their hard hearts.

1421. We see the same imagery

  1422. in the middle

  1423. of verse 12.

  1424. Break up

  1425. your unploughed

  1426. ground

  1427. for it is time

  1428. to seek

  1429. the Lord.

  1430. You see,

  1431. the sin,

  1432. that unfaithfulness,

  1433. if it is not

  1434. dealt with,

  1435. all sin will do

  1436. is harden our hearts

  1437. and we will become

  1438. desensitised

  1439. to God's Spirit.

  1440. We no longer

  1441. become aware

  1442. of sin

  1443. and how it's

  1444. damaging us.

  1445. We continue to drift

  1446. and we're not even

  1447. aware we're drifting.

  1448. We become immune

  1449. to its effects.

  1450. So we are to

  1451. break up

  1452. the hard hearts

  1453. by seeking

  1454. the Lord,

  1455. calling out to Him

  1456. and asking Him,

  1457. Lord,

  1458. soften my heart,

  1459. break my heart

  1460. so I can be

  1461. receptive

  1462. to You.

  1463. So that's

  1464. step one,

  1465. we are to break

  1466. open our hard hearts.

  1467. Two,

  1468. we are to

  1469. sow the seed

  1470. of the gospel.

  1471. Look at

  1472. verse 12.

  1473. having broken

  1474. up the land,

  1475. he says,

  1476. sow for yourselves

  1477. righteousness.

  1478. Sow for yourselves

  1479. righteousness.

  1480. As we break up

  1481. the hard ground,

  1482. now we begin

  1483. to scatter

  1484. and sow.

  1485. And in this context,

  1486. I think righteousness

  1487. are those things

  1488. that look back

  1489. to how we first

  1490. started our relationship

  1491. with God.

  1492. It's to

  1493. re-sow

  1494. those things

  1495. that brought about

  1496. our relationship

  1497. with Him.

  1498. Things like grace,

  1499. reminding ourselves

  1500. of God's loving kindness,

  1501. how He redeemed us

  1502. and rescued us

  1503. and called us

  1504. to be His.

  1505. Feeding into our lives

  1506. His grace

  1507. day after day.

  1508. Sowing to ourselves,

  1509. if you like,

  1510. repentance,

  1511. turning back again

  1512. to God

  1513. and trusting

  1514. in Him again

  1515. in faith

  1516. that God is enough,

  1517. that He is sufficient,

  1518. He is my joy,

  1519. He is my happiness.

  1520. We are to plant

  1521. the gospel seed

  1522. into our lives

  1523. and water it

  1524. and let it

  1525. flourish.

  1526. And as we sow,

  1527. we must be careful

  1528. not to do

  1529. what Israel did.

  1530. Look at verse 13.

  1531. Israel,

  1532. what did they do?

  1533. He says,

  1534. but you have planted

  1535. wickedness

  1536. and you have

  1537. reaped evil.

  1538. You have eaten

  1539. the fruit of deception.

  1540. You see,

  1541. if we sow

  1542. the wrong kind

  1543. of seed,

  1544. if we continue

  1545. to feed

  1546. our sinful nature,

  1547. well then we'll

  1548. reap destruction,

  1549. we'll reap evil,

  1550. we'll wreak havoc

  1551. in our lives.

  1552. But instead,

  1553. if we begin

  1554. to sow the seed

  1555. of righteousness,

  1556. our hearts

  1557. will become

  1558. softened

  1559. and we will

  1560. reap something

  1561. beautiful,

  1562. something good.

  1563. Which is what

  1564. the third step is.

  1565. Having broken

  1566. open our hard hearts,

  1567. sowing the seed

  1568. of the gospel,

  1569. third,

  1570. we can now

  1571. harvest the fruit

  1572. of unfailing love.

  1573. look at verse

  1574. 12 again.

  1575. Sow for yourselves

  1576. righteousness

  1577. and reap

  1578. the fruit

  1579. of unfailing love.

  1580. You see,

  1581. the farmer

  1582. who goes out

  1583. and breaks up

  1584. the hard ground

  1585. and sows

  1586. the ripe seed

  1587. will harvest

  1588. and reap

  1589. grain and fruit

  1590. in abundance.

1591. And in the same way,

  1592. if we're breaking

  1593. up our hard hearts,

  1594. if we're sowing

  1595. the seed of righteousness,

  1596. we will in turn

  1597. harvest or reap

  1598. unfailing love.

  1599. Now that doesn't mean

1600. if we do certain things

  1601. God is going

  1602. to love me more.

  1603. No,

  1604. God is always

  1605. steadfast in his love

  1606. towards us.

  1607. But we only

  1608. begin to experience

  1609. that love

  1610. and enjoy that love

  1611. as we cultivate

  1612. a healthy marriage.

  1613. But more than that,

  1614. not just will we

  1615. reap unfailing love,

  1616. look at the rest

  1617. of verse 12.

  1618. He says,

1619. break up the unplowed ground

  1620. for it's time

  1621. to seek the Lord

  1622. until he comes

  1623. and showers

  1624. righteousness

  1625. on you.

  1626. What a beautiful

  1627. picture,

  1628. that image.

  1629. The raining down,

  1630. if you like,

  1631. of God's righteousness

  1632. upon us.

  1633. Just like the rain

  1634. falls from the sky

  1635. onto the hard ground

  1636. and breaks it up

  1637. and causes those seeds

  1638. to grow and flourish,

  1639. so the showers

  1640. of righteousness

  1641. will fall down

  1642. and pour down

  1643. upon our lives

  1644. and we will harvest

  1645. a life of forgiveness,

  1646. of joy and peace

  1647. and enjoyment with God.

  1648. Cultivate a fruitful marriage.

  1649. Paul takes this

  1650. a little bit further

  1651. for us.

1652. Have a look at Galatians

    Galatians 6 chapter mention

  1653. chapter 6.

  1654. It's on page

  1655. 1172.

  1656. Galatians chapter 6

    Galatians 6:7

  1657. verse 7.

  1658. On page

  1659. 1172.

  1660. Galatians chapter 6

    Galatians 6 chapter mention

  1661. and verse 7.

  1662. So as we

  1663. come to this,

  1664. think about

  1665. what am I

  1666. reaping?

  1667. Am I reaping

  1668. an unfaithful

  1669. marriage?

  1670. Or am I

  1671. cultivating

  1672. a fruitful

  1673. marriage?

  1674. Well,

  1675. chapter 6

  1676. verse 7.

  1677. Do not be

  1678. deceived.

  1679. God cannot

  1680. be mocked.

  1681. He knows

  1682. what our hearts

  1683. are like.

  1684. He knows

  1685. what's going on.

  1686. A man

  1687. reaps

  1688. what he

  1689. sows.

  1690. The one

  1691. who sows

  1692. to please

  1693. his sinful

  1694. nature

  1695. from that

  1696. nature

  1697. will reap

  1698. destruction.

  1699. The one

  1700. who sows

  1701. to please

  1702. the Spirit

  1703. from the

  1704. Spirit

  1705. will reap

  1706. eternal

  1707. life.

  1708. you are

  1709. what you

  1710. sow.

  1711. In other

  1712. words,

  1713. what you

  1714. sow

  1715. in your

  1716. life

  1717. you will

  1718. reap.

  1719. The seeds

  1720. that you

  1721. sow

  1722. will bear

  1723. its own

  1724. fruit.

  1725. If you

  1726. sow an

  1727. apple seed,

  1728. you're going

  1729. to get

  1730. apples.

  1731. If you

  1732. throw orange

  1733. seeds in

  1734. the ground,

  1735. you're going

  1736. to get

  1737. oranges.

  1738. In the

  1739. same way,

  1740. the life

  1741. we live

  1742. now,

  1743. the choices

  1744. that we

  1745. make,

  1746. the decisions

  1747. that we're

  1748. making,

  1749. what we're

  1750. feeding into

  1751. our life

  1752. will have

  1753. consequences

  1754. and effects

  1755. either good

  1756. or bad.

  1757. And the

  1758. results will

  1759. be seen

  1760. if not

  1761. now,

  1762. then later.

  1763. The fruit

  1764. of our

  1765. actions

  1766. will be

  1767. unavoidable.

  1768. So,

  1769. verse 8,

  1770. the one

  1771. who sows

  1772. to please

  1773. his sinful

  1774. nature,

  1775. from that

  1776. nature

  1777. will reap

  1778. destruction.

  1779. to push

  1780. God out,

  1781. to ignore

  1782. him,

  1783. is only

  1784. letting sin

  1785. fester

  1786. and grow.

  1787. If you

  1788. like,

  1789. thorns

  1790. and thistles

  1791. surrounding

  1792. us,

  1793. dragging

  1794. us and

  1795. pulling

  1796. us down.

  1797. It's a

  1798. life into

  1799. slavery,

  1800. sorrow,

  1801. and curse,

  1802. and eventual

  1803. judgment.

  1804. fulfillment.

  1805. But,

  1806. the one

  1807. who sows,

  1808. verse 8,

  1809. to please

  1810. the Spirit,

  1811. from the

  1812. Spirit,

  1813. will reap

  1814. eternal

  1815. life.

  1816. To cultivate

  1817. that marriage,

  1818. to break up

  1819. our hard

  1820. hearts,

  1821. to sow

  1822. the seed

  1823. of his

  1824. word,

  1825. to sow

  1826. the gospel

  1827. deep into

  1828. our lives

  1829. continually,

  1830. we will

  1831. reap a rich

  1832. harvest,

  1833. where we

  1834. will know

  1835. God,

  1836. enjoy God,

  1837. and experience

  1838. his unfailing

  1839. love for

  1840. all eternity.

  1841. What are we

  1842. sowing?

  1843. And what are we

  1844. reaping in

  1845. our lives?

  1846. What is our

  1847. marriage

  1848. relationship with

  1849. God like

  1850. today?

  1851. What a

  1852. wonderful

  1853. invitation.

  1854. to reap

  1855. a wonderful

  1856. harvest,

  1857. as we

  1858. sow to

  1859. the Spirit,

  1860. and enrich

  1861. our lives.

  1862. Let's pray

  1863. that God

  1864. will do that

  1865. work in our

  1866. lives,

  1867. right now.

  1868. Father, we

  1869. know that

  1870. you cannot

  1871. be deceived.

  1872. You know

  1873. our hearts

  1874. better than

  1875. ourselves.

  1876. You know

  1877. exactly how

  1878. our relationship

  1879. is with

  1880. you.

  1881. other

  1882. are

  1883. you

  1884. are

  1885. your
