  1. I'm very thankful for Pastor Johnny and the team here.

  2. And we're very thankful for Joy Campbell and Russ for their hospitality.

  3. So we are big J fans and that does not mean that we don't like others.

  4. All my kids' names are Joshua, JJ, and Jude.

  5. So it's great to meet the Js again here.

  6. Thank you for having us.

  7. It's been, you know, it's a blessing to us just being here.

  8. I'm just, you know, I'm praising God just for all of you.

  9. And so many people, not just at Southern Seminary in the U.S., but so many churches are praying for you all.

  10. Yeah, so we will continue to do that.

  11. Yeah.

  12. So I just briefly shared that myself and my wife, we worked with leprosy patients for six years.

  13. So when I came to know that, oh, we are going to Ireland, I was like, man, I'm so excited.

  14. Because since 2002, I'm hearing about Ireland.

  15. So here's the interesting story.

  16. I think in 1869, an Irish teacher, his name is Wellesley Bailey, right?

  17. Wellesley Bailey.

  18. He went to India on a short-term mission trip, and he saw the leprosy patients.

  19. They're lying on the streets and dying patients.

  20. And the Lord gave him burden for them.

  21. And then he started sharing the gospel with them, an Irish teacher from Ireland.

  22. And then after that, he came back, and he shared that with his friends here and different countries.

  23. And today, there are more than 18 hospitals.

  24. And over the years, I don't know how many children and families the leprosy mission served.

  25. So many.

  26. There are incredible stories.

  27. But I want to tell you this morning, we will be briefly looking at the promises of God and the power of the gospel.

  28. The promises of God and the power of the gospel.

  29. So these leprosy patients, even today, if you go to India, in some places you see the leprosy patients staying in the campuses for the last 60 years.

  30. Do you know why?

  31. Because when they were like 10 years old, 9 years old, because of leprosy, their own families, they said, please don't live with us.

  32. Go live somewhere outside of the city.

  33. Then the leprosy mission, they went and they cared for these children.

  34. And now the children, at the age of 10, they came to the mission.

  35. And now they're 60, 50.

  36. They're there.

  37. But praise God, some of them, they heard the gospel.

  38. They repented their sin.

  39. And they trusted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.

  40. And they trusted God's promises.

  41. And now, like, I don't know how many of you have seen leprosy patients.

  42. So when they have leprosy, basically, if they don't give treatment within a year,

  43. eventually, their fingers and legs got deformed and they don't feel the sensation, whether it's in the eyes or, you know, hands or legs.

  44. So in the night, they go to bed.

  45. They sleep.

  46. And in the mornings, they open their eyes.

  47. They'll be missing their fingers.

  48. They'll be like, oh, what happened?

  49. In the night, maybe the rats, you know, went and they bit them.

  50. So all kinds of things, they're suffering constantly.

  51. Suffering.

  52. In midst of all this suffering, they're praising God.

  53. They're praising God.

  54. Because, do you know why?

  55. Because one day, they will see their Lord and Savior face to face.

  56. This is our temporary home.

  57. But one day, we all will be with Him.

  58. We all will be with Him.

  59. I can tell you stories like this.

  60. So many.

  61. But in Matthew chapter 28, verse 20, the Lord says, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.

    Matthew 28:20

  62. This is the Lord's promise.

  63. You are in this world.

  64. One day, you will be with me.

  65. But even now, I am with you all.

  66. I am with you all.

  67. To encourage us, to strengthen us, to give us courage and boldness, to proclaim the gospel.

  68. And 1 Peter chapter 1, verse 3, 1 Peter chapter 1, verse 3, you can listen to me.

    1 Peter 1:3 1 Peter 1:3

  69. It says, Praise be to the God, our Father, of our Lord Jesus Christ.

  70. In His great mercy, He has given us the new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

  71. From the dead and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil, or fade.

  72. This inheritance, especially those who are followers of Jesus Christ, this is for all of us.

  73. This inheritance is kept in heaven for you.

  74. So these are the promises for us as well.

  75. No matter what trials we all face, Christ never leaves us.

  76. Christ never leaves us.

  77. Just thinking of my childhood, when I was five years old, my dad, one evening, he was a whole day he was at home.

  78. And then in the evening, all of a sudden, he said, like, okay, I'm going to office.

  79. And, well, we can't stop him.

  80. And he said before leaving, he promised me that I will bring this thing, that thing.

  81. And then he left home.

  82. And he did not return.

  83. He did not come back.

  84. And after two months, he died.

  85. After two months, he died.

  86. So I remember my dad's words.

  87. And after many years, when I heard the gospel, when I heard about God's promises,

  88. and I was listening.

  89. Listening to people sometimes can be disappointing.

  90. But listening to God and following God, we are never going to disappoint in this life.

  91. Because God, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ,

  92. he is pleading with the Father for us now.

  93. And one day, he promised that one day we will be with him.

  94. We'll be with him.

  95. Friends, that's a great promise.

  96. That's where we can.

  97. Now, the question is, do we trust God's promises?

  98. And the power of the gospel?

  99. So this morning, we'll look at briefly the book of Acts.

  100. The first two chapters, kind of like I'm going to give you a big overview.

  101. So if you have your Bibles, the Red Bibles with you,

  102. it's on page number 1093.

  103. In a while, we'll be reading a few verses from Acts chapter 1 and Acts chapter 2.

Acts 1 chapter mention Acts 2 chapter mention

  104. So now the question, who wrote the book of Acts?

  105. But it is undisputed that Luke was the author of Acts,

  106. and also the gospel of Luke.

  107. The date will be early 60s, probably before the death of Paul.

  108. Before the death of Paul.

  109. So why, here, what is the purpose of writing the gospel of Acts,

  110. and also the book of Acts, and the gospel of Luke,

  111. to show that Jesus, Lord Jesus,

  112. remained faithful to his purpose of dying,

  113. and raising again as those promises are worked out

  114. in the establishment of his church.

  115. Of his church.

  116. So in both the books,

  117. we see, whether it is in the book of Acts,

  118. or the gospel of Luke,

  119. we see the ministry of the Holy Spirit.

  120. We see the ministry of the Holy Spirit.

  121. We see people praying.

  122. We see God's interest to the outcasts,

  123. to the poorest of the poor.

  124. And the fact that the gospel is for the whole world.

  125. We see the gospel expansion in these books.

  126. So the basic outline,

  127. the basic outline of the book of Acts,

  128. geographically,

  129. if you see from chapter 1 to chapter 7,

  130. it's all the work is in Jerusalem.

  131. And then from chapter 8 to chapter 12,

  132. all Judea and Samaria.

  133. So the gospel work started in Jerusalem,

  134. and then slowly it spread to Judea and Samaria.

  135. And from chapter 13 to Acts chapter 28,

    Acts 28 chapter mention

  136. we see gospel spreading to the ends of the earth.

  137. Gospel spreading to the ends of the earth.

  138. But if you see personally,

  139. the first 12 chapters,

  140. we see the ministry of Peter and others.

  141. And from chapter 13 to 28,

  142. we see the ministry of Apostle Paul.

  143. Apostle Paul.

  144. So there are some lessons we can learn

  145. from the early church.

  146. So especially the early church,

  147. so these are the main points,

  148. the big points I'm giving you.

  149. So the early church trusted God's promises and plans.

  150. The early church trusted God's promises and his plans.

  151. And the second one,

  152. the early church preached the gospel of Jesus Christ.

  153. The early church preached the gospel of Jesus Christ.

  154. And finally,

  155. the early church prayed and sacrificed everything

  156. to spread the gospel.

  157. They gave up everything.

  158. So the first one,

  159. trusted God's promises.

  160. The early church trusted God's promises and plans.

  161. So if you see the Old Testament,

  162. God promised everything.

  163. And in the New Testament,

  164. we'll see God's fulfillment through Jesus Christ.

  165. So God's promises in the Old Testament.

  166. In the New Testament,

  167. we see God fulfilling his promises through his son,

  168. Jesus Christ.

  169. So in Genesis,

  170. you see God created man

  171. and put him into the Garden of Eden.

  172. He wanted man to live a godly life

  173. and also not only live a godly life,

  174. maintain a perfect relationship with God.

  175. But what happened?

  176. Man disobeyed God.

  177. But still,

  178. that's in the first,

  179. like if you see in the beginning of Genesis.

  180. But in Genesis 3.15,

  181. we see God's promise in the book of Genesis,

  182. the seed of the woman,

  183. the seed of the one day

  184. that this Christ will come

  185. and restored the world,

  186. restored the world to himself.

  187. And then in,

  188. in,

  189. and Noah,

  190. you see during the flood,

  191. the man kept on sinning,

  192. obeying Satan instead of God.

  193. So God destroyed all the people

  194. except Noah and his family.

  195. We see Genesis,

  196. then Noah,

  197. and then Abraham.

  198. By the time of Abraham,

  199. almost all the people were bad again.

  200. But God promised Abraham

  201. that he would become

  202. the father of great nation.

  203. He would become the father of great nation

  204. and people are chosen by God.

  205. And then Abraham's son,

  206. Isaac,

  207. and his grandson,

  208. Jacob,

  209. had the same promise.

  210. So when Jacob's son,

  211. Joseph,

  212. became the governor of Egypt,

  213. Jacob and his tribe

  214. moved to Egypt

  215. for about 400 years.

  216. They lived peacefully in Egypt

  217. until Pharaoh decided

  218. to make them his slaves.

  219. And then we see Moses,

  220. the people of Israel,

  221. left Egypt

  222. and lived in wilderness

  223. for 40 years.

  224. They conquered the land

  225. under the leadership of Joshua,

  226. which God had promised them

  227. and lived under judges

  228. for about 300 years.

  229. It's so interesting.

  230. Like God's promises

  231. and people disobeying.

  232. God's promises

  233. and people disobeying.

  234. But still,

  235. God has been so faithful.

  236. Not only to them,

  237. even today,

  238. to us.

  239. Today to us.

  240. So when the judges were old,

  241. the people of Israel

  242. demanded a king.

  243. We need a king.

  244. We need a king, Lord.

  245. And Saul

  246. became the first king.

  247. But he did not obey God.

  248. He did not obey God.

  249. The next king,

  250. David,

  251. tried to please God

  252. in most things

  253. and build a strong kingdom.

  254. Build a strong kingdom.

  255. King David.

  256. That was the golden age

  257. of Israel's kingdom

  258. when David was the king.

  259. David's son,

  260. Solomon,

  261. was a wise king.

  262. But he loved luxury

  263. and foreign wives.

  264. He let his foreign wives

  265. build pagan altars

  266. and turn the people

  267. away from God.

  268. He taxed the people

  269. heavily to pay

  270. for his luxuries.

  271. Solomon's son,

  272. Rehoboam,

  273. tried to live like his father,

  274. but the people rebelled

  275. and split the kingdom

  276. into two parts,

  277. Israel and Judah.

  278. As the new kings

  279. came to the throne,

  280. both parts,

  281. the divided kingdom

  282. became weaker and weaker

  283. until they were conquered

  284. and the people

  285. carried away.

  286. Carried away.

  287. Some of the people

  288. came back home

  289. years later,

  290. but they were conquered

  291. again by Greeks

  292. and later by Romans.

  293. Tired of being

  294. a conquered people,

  295. they cried out

  296. for a promised Messiah

  297. who would save them.

  298. These people,

  299. they cried out.

  300. But when the Messiah came,

  301. when Christ came,

  302. they did not recognize him.

  303. They did not recognize him.

  304. Even though God

  305. spoke from heaven

  306. and said that

  307. this is his son,

  308. they would not believe in him.

  309. They would not believe him.

  310. Jesus did many miracles,

  311. healing,

  312. and even raising people

  313. from the dead.

  314. Dead people,

  315. literally dead people.

  316. But still,

  317. people would not believe

  318. in him.

  319. But at the last

  320. time cave,

  321. when Jesus was crucified

  322. by his enemies,

  323. then conquered

  324. according to God's plan,

  325. he rose from the dead

  326. and appeared to

  327. many people.

  328. Later,

  329. he rose up from the earth

  330. to return to heaven.

  331. Return to heaven.

  332. So if you have your Bibles,

  333. turn with me to Luke chapter 24.

    Luke 24 chapter mention

  334. Luke chapter 24.

    Luke 24 chapter mention

  335. I'll be reading

  336. from verse 20,

  337. Luke chapter 24,

    Luke 24:44–49

  338. verse 44 to 49.

  339. I'll be reading from verse,

  340. it's so beautiful

  341. how

  342. the Lord,

  343. our Lord God,

  344. through the inspiration

  345. of the Holy Spirit,

  346. written this

  347. word of God.

  348. Luke chapter 24,

    Luke 24:44–49

  349. verse 44 to 49.

  350. He said to them,

  351. Jesus,

  352. Jesus appeared to his disciples,

  353. and he said to them,

  354. this is what I told you

  355. while I was still with you.

  356. everything must be fulfilled

  357. that is written about me

  358. in the law of Moses,

  359. the prophets,

  360. and the Psalms.

  361. And then he opened their minds

  362. so that they could understand

  363. the scriptures.

  364. Brothers and sisters,

  365. we have seen from Genesis

  366. to book of Acts,

  367. everything,

  368. whatever has been said,

  369. it's all about Christ.

  370. The whole Old Testament

  371. is pointing to Jesus Christ.

  372. And now clearly,

  373. in the words of Jesus Christ,

  374. we are hearing

  375. that everything

  376. must be fulfilled

  377. that is written about me

  378. in the law of Moses,

  379. the prophets,

  380. and the Psalms.

  381. He told them,

  382. this is what it is written,

  383. the Messiah will suffer

  384. and raise from the dead

  385. on the third day,

  386. and repentance

  387. for the forgiveness

  388. of sins

  389. will be preached

  390. in his name

  391. to all nations

  392. beginning at Jerusalem.

  393. You are witnesses

  394. of these things.

  395. I am going to send you

  396. what my Father has promised,

  397. but stay in the city

  398. until you have been clothed

  399. with power

  400. from on high.

  401. And we see,

  402. please turn with me

  403. to Acts chapter 1.

    Acts 1 chapter mention

  404. Acts chapter 1,

    Acts 1:8

  405. verse 8.

  406. Acts chapter 1,

    Acts 1:8

  407. verse 8,

  408. page number 10,

  409. 1093.

  410. But you will receive power

  411. when the Holy Spirit

  412. comes on you,

  413. and you will be

  414. my witnesses

  415. in Jerusalem

  416. and in all Judea,

  417. Samaria,

  418. and to the ends

  419. of the earth.

  420. So when Jesus

  421. was gone,

  422. his disciples

  423. began to pray

  424. in the upper room.

  425. Then the Holy Spirit

  426. came upon them

  427. and they were changed.

  428. They were changed

  429. and they were praising God.

  430. All of them.

  431. All of them.

  432. They were praising God.

  433. So God is sovereign

  434. Lord of history.

  435. He is a faithful God.

  436. He is not only

  437. promising,

  438. but he fulfilled

  439. his promises

  440. that things happen

  441. in fulfillment

  442. of God's plan

  443. from Genesis,

  444. from the beginning

  445. of this universe.

  446. And Lord

  447. is fulfilling

  448. all his promises.

  449. The only thing

  450. left out

  451. is coming back.

  452. He's coming back.

  453. So one day

  454. he will be back.

  455. He'll be back.

  456. You can clearly

  457. see how God

  458. fulfilled

  459. all his promises.

  460. That's where

  461. we can place

  462. our trust upon him

  463. for everything.

  464. Especially

  465. for our salvation.

  466. So the early church

  467. trusted God's promises

  468. and his plans

  469. and the second point

  470. they preached

  471. the early church

  472. preached

  473. the gospel

  474. of Jesus Christ.

  475. They preached

  476. the gospel

  477. of Jesus Christ.

  478. So Peter,

  479. how many of you

  480. have heard

  481. of Apostle Peter?

  482. He's a friend?

  483. Yeah?

  484. He's a friend?

  485. Yeah?

  486. Yes.

  487. Yes.

  488. Peter,

  489. this man

  490. denied Jesus Christ.

  491. How many times?

  492. How many times

  493. Apostle Peter

  494. denied Jesus Christ?

  495. Three times.

  496. Literally three times

  497. that was a small

  498. girl witness like,

  499. Oh,

  500. you are with him.

  501. And Peter said,

  502. No,

  503. what are you

  504. talking about?

  505. No,

  506. I don't know

  507. that man.

  508. I was not with him.

  509. Three times

  510. Peter denied.

  511. The fourth time

  512. when he remembered

  513. God's words,

  514. he wept.

  515. Wept.

  516. he gave his life

  517. to Jesus Christ.

  518. He gave his life.

  519. This man,

  520. please look with me

  521. in Acts chapter 2.

    Acts 2 chapter mention

  522. Acts chapter 2.

    Acts 2 chapter mention

  523. Acts chapter 2,

    Acts 2:22

  524. verse 22.

  525. Acts chapter 2,

    Acts 2:22–24

  526. verse 22 to 24.

  527. This man who denied

  528. Jesus Christ,

  529. now the Lord

  530. poured out

  531. the promised Holy Spirit

  532. and now

  533. standing in front

  534. of everybody

  535. and these are his words,

  536. Apostle Peter were.

  537. Fellow Israelites,

  538. listen to this.

  539. Jesus of Nazareth,

  540. a man

  541. accredited by God

  542. to you by miracles,

  543. wonders,

  544. and signs

  545. which God did

  546. among you

  547. through him.

  548. As you yourself

  549. know,

  550. this man

  551. was handed

  552. over to you

  553. by God's

  554. deliberate plan

  555. and foreknowledge.

  556. And you,

  557. with the help

  558. of wicked men,

  559. put him to death

  560. by nailing him

  561. to the cross.

  562. But God

  563. raised him

  564. from the dead,

  565. freeing him

  566. from the agony

  567. of death

  568. because

  569. it was impossible

  570. for death

  571. to keep

  572. its hold

  573. on him.

  574. It's impossible

  575. for death

  576. to keep

  577. hold on him.

  578. Peter,

  579. he stood

  580. before these people.

  581. They were laughing

  582. at him.

  583. But then,

  584. he preached

  585. the death

  586. of Jesus Christ

  587. and the resurrection

  588. of Jesus Christ.

  589. friends,

  590. in Hebrews

  591. 9,

  592. Hebrews 9,

    Hebrews 9:27

  593. verse 27,

  594. it says,

  595. man is destined

  596. to die once

  597. and after that

  598. he has to face

  599. judgment.

  600. In Hebrews,

  601. Hebrews 9,

  602. 27.

  603. But praise God,

  604. just a few minutes

  605. back,

  606. we have seen

  607. in Genesis,

  608. God created

  609. everything very good.

  610. And he looked

  611. and said,

  612. yes,

  613. very good.

  614. and he created

  615. man and woman

  616. in his own image.

  617. But what happened?

  618. What happened?

  619. Because of man's sin,

  620. disobeyed God

  621. and we are all

  622. separated from God.

  623. And now,

  624. how we are going

  625. to

  626. reconcile

  627. with God?

  628. The good news is,

  629. is not only

  630. just following Jesus.

  631. Here is the thing.

  632. according to Hebrews

  633. 9,

  634. 27,

  635. we are all

  636. destined to die

  637. once and after that

  638. we have to face

  639. judgment.

  640. But even now,

  641. if God

  642. looked at us,

  643. I don't think

  644. we can stand

  645. before a holy God

  646. without knowing

  647. Christ,

  648. without knowing

  649. Christ.

  650. It's all

  651. God's grace

  652. and love

  653. that I have

  654. this life

  655. and you

  656. have this life.

  657. time for us.

  658. Time for us.

  659. Praise God

  660. for Jesus.

  661. But God

  662. loved us so much.

  663. But to be honest,

  664. you know,

  665. I cannot

  666. pay for my sins.

  667. Jesus Christ,

  668. he came

  669. and he

  670. lived

  671. a righteous life,

  672. a perfect life

  673. and he

  674. died

  675. on the cross

  676. in my place.

  677. and he

  678. took

  679. God's

  680. wrath

  681. upon him

  682. and he

  683. paid

  684. for my sins

  685. and for our sins.

  686. And he

  687. rose again

  688. on the third day.

  689. He rose again

  690. on the third day.

  691. But see,

  692. because of our sins,

  693. God did not

  694. destroy us

  695. or punish us

  696. for disobeying him,

  697. but

  698. God has been

  699. so kind

  700. and gracious

  701. in sending

  702. his son,

  703. Jesus Christ,

  704. to this world.

  705. This fully God,

  706. fully man,

  707. came to this world,

  708. lived a righteous life,

  709. sinless life,

  710. even though he was

  711. tempted,

  712. but

  713. he obeyed

  714. his father

  715. completely

  716. and he lived

  717. a holy life.

  718. This Jesus,

  719. son of God,

  720. son of David,

  721. the son of man,

  722. the Lord,

  723. the author of life,

  724. savior,

  725. holy,

  726. righteous one,

  727. took the wrath

  728. of God

  729. on him

  730. and he died

  731. for our sins.

  732. and now,

  733. when we have

  734. that opportunity,

  735. we are hearing

  736. this gospel

  737. again and again

  738. and again,

  739. what should be

  740. our response?

  741. What should be

  742. our response?

  743. Asking forgiveness

  744. from God.

  745. Asking forgiveness

  746. from God.

  747. So that's what

  748. the apostles,

  749. the early church,

  750. when they

  751. received

  752. the Holy Spirit,

  753. when they received

  754. the power,

  755. they did not,

  756. you know,

  757. shut their mouths

  758. and they were not

  759. hiding inside

  760. their houses.

  761. They went outside

  762. and they boldly,

  763. they preached

  764. the gospel to people.

  765. In Acts chapter 2,

    Acts 2 chapter mention

  766. if you read,

  767. if you have time,

  768. like,

  769. Lord willing,

  770. after the service,

  771. when you go home,

  772. please read Acts chapter 1

    Acts 1 chapter mention

  773. and chapter 2.

  774. After hearing the gospel

  775. message,

  776. when Peter preached,

  777. they were like,

  778. what shall we do?

  779. What shall we do?

  780. How can we be saved?

  781. And Peter,

  782. repent your sins,

  783. ask forgiveness

  784. from God,

  785. and be baptized.

  786. Trust in Jesus Christ.

  787. Trust in Jesus Christ.

  788. And what happened

  789. in Acts chapter 2,

    Acts 2 chapter mention

  790. at the end,

  791. 3,000 people

  792. came to faith.

  793. 3,000 people

  794. came to faith.

  795. So they

  796. preached the gospel,

  797. people repented,

  798. and they started

  799. following Jesus Christ.

  800. First,

  801. these are the consequences.

  802. Now,

  803. we all have

  804. choice.

  805. Like what Adam and Eve

  806. did,

  807. and even today,

  808. what so many people

  809. are doing

  810. is rejecting

  811. to follow

  812. the creator,

  813. and following

  814. their own heart,

  815. and following

  816. the idols

  817. of this world.

  818. In India,

  819. we have like,

  820. 330 million gods.

  821. 330 million gods.

  822. They have like,

  823. every day,

  824. they have one god

  825. to worship.

  826. But,

  827. where are they going?

  828. Where are they going?

  829. Their destiny

  830. is very different

  831. from ours.

  832. Their sin is not.

  833. People go

  834. and take bath

  835. in River Ganges.

  836. Do you know why?

  837. So that their

  838. sins will be

  839. cleansed.

  840. Literally,

  841. millions of people

  842. every year,

  843. they go there,

  844. and even

  845. they bring

  846. the water

  847. from River Ganges,

  848. and worship

  849. the water.

  850. So,

  851. but where are they

  852. going?

  853. Their destiny

  854. is different.

  855. They are not

  856. going to see

  857. the savior.

  858. here.

  859. But we

  860. have the

  861. opportunity.

  862. We are

  863. hearing the

  864. gospel again

  865. and again.

  866. We are

  867. following Jesus

  868. Christ.

  869. Our sins,

  870. if we place

  871. our trust

  872. in Jesus

  873. Christ,

  874. our sins

  875. are forgiven.

  876. One day,

  877. one day,

  878. we'll stand

  879. before God

  880. with confidence

  881. on what Christ

  882. has done

  883. for us.

  884. If you

  885. fear

  886. today,

  887. that day,

  888. we can stand

  889. before God.

  890. So,

  891. the apostles,

  892. the early

  893. church,

  894. they preached

  895. the gospel,

  896. and finally,

  897. they prayed

  898. and sacrificed

  899. everything,

  900. including their

  901. lives,

  902. to spread

  903. the gospel

  904. of Jesus

  905. Christ.

  906. Please look

  907. at me to

  908. Acts chapter

    Acts 2:42–47

  909. 2,

  910. verse 42

  911. to 47.

  912. Acts chapter

    Acts 2:42–47

  913. 2,

  914. verses 42

  915. to 47.

  916. So,

  917. we have

  918. seen the

  919. early church

  920. trusted God's

  921. promises and

  922. plans,

  923. and the

  924. early church,

  925. after receiving

  926. the power

  927. of the

  928. Holy Spirit,

  929. they preached

  930. the gospel,

  931. they preached

  932. the gospel,

  933. and finally,

  934. the early church,

  935. they prayed,

  936. they prayed and

  937. sacrificed everything,

  938. including their

  939. lives,

  940. to spread of the

  941. gospel.

  942. gospel.

  943. So,

  944. Acts chapter

    Acts 2:42–47

  945. 2,

  946. verse 42

  947. to 47.

  948. They devoted

  949. themselves to

  950. the apostles'

  951. teaching,

  952. and to fellowship,

  953. to the breaking

  954. of bread,

  955. and to prayer.

  956. Everyone was

  957. filled with awe

  958. at the many

  959. wonders and

  960. signs performed

  961. by the apostles.

  962. All the believers

  963. were together

  964. and had everything

  965. in common.

  966. They sold

  967. property and

  968. possessions to

  969. give to anyone

  970. who had need.

  971. Every day,

  972. they continued

  973. to meet together

  974. in the temple

  975. courts.

  976. They broke

  977. bread in their

  978. homes and

  979. ate together

  980. with glad

  981. and sincere

  982. hearts,

  983. praising God

  984. and enjoying

  985. the favor of

  986. all the people.

  987. And the Lord

  988. added to their

  989. number daily

  990. those who

  991. were being

  992. saved.

  993. So,

  994. they did not,

  995. they did not

  996. stop like meeting

  997. once.

  998. they were

  999. meeting

  1000. continuously.

  1001. You see,

  1002. if you read

  1003. the whole book

  1004. of Acts,

  1005. you see people

  1006. coming to faith,

  1007. people coming

  1008. to faith,

  1009. and people

  1010. gathering,

  1011. and these churches

  1012. started,

  1013. and the gospel

  1014. not only started

  1015. with Jerusalem

  1016. and spread to

  1017. Judea and

  1018. Samaria,

  1019. and then finally

  1020. to the ends

  1021. of the earth.

  1022. So,

  1023. we see these

  1024. people are

  1025. gathering,

  1026. so what

  1027. happened?

  1028. Well,

  1029. they were all

  1030. like,

  1031. you know,

  1032. yes,

  1033. definitely they

  1034. were all

  1035. joyful,

  1036. and they were

  1037. rejoicing and

  1038. praising God.

  1039. So,

  1040. was it like,

  1041. was it fun?

  1042. Kind of fun,

  1043. but at the

  1044. same time,

  1045. they faced

  1046. persecution,

  1047. persecution

  1048. from the

  1049. community,

  1050. and people

  1051. died,

  1052. the first,

  1053. Stephen was

  1054. murdered,

  1055. and they

  1056. faced religious

  1057. opposition,

  1058. they faced

  1059. like,

  1060. even,

  1061. people putting

  1062. into jail,

  1063. you know.

  1064. So,

  1065. if you see,

  1066. if you,

  1067. so these are

  1068. the summary

  1069. statements I'm

  1070. giving you,

  1071. from Acts,

  1072. Acts chapter

    Acts 6:7

  1073. 6,

  1074. verse 7,

  1075. Acts chapter

    Acts 6:7

  1076. 6,

  1077. verse 7,

  1078. so I'm

  1079. giving you

  1080. six summary

  1081. statements,

  1082. we'll see in

  1083. these summary

  1084. statements,

  1085. how the

  1086. gospel spread

  1087. from Jerusalem

  1088. to Judea and

  1089. Samaria and

  1090. to the ends

  1091. of the earth.

  1092. So,

  1093. chapter 6,

  1094. verse 7,

  1095. and the word

  1096. of God

  1097. continued to

  1098. increase,

  1099. and the number

  1100. of disciples

  1101. multiplied greatly

  1102. in Jerusalem,

  1103. and a great

  1104. many of the

  1105. priests became

  1106. obedient to

  1107. the faith,

  1108. became obedient

  1109. to the faith.

  1110. And in

  1111. chapter 9,

  1112. verse 31,

  1113. Acts chapter

    Acts 9:31

  1114. 9,

  1115. verse 31,

  1116. so the

  1117. church

  1118. throughout

  1119. all Judea

  1120. and Galilee

  1121. and Samaria

  1122. had peace

  1123. and was being

  1124. built up,

  1125. and walking

  1126. in the fear

  1127. of the Lord

  1128. and in the

  1129. comfort of the

  1130. Holy Spirit,

  1131. it multiplied,

  1132. it multiplied.

  1133. We're hearing

  1134. this word

  1135. again and

  1136. again,

  1137. like multiplied,

  1138. the church

  1139. multiplied.

  1140. And again,

  1141. Acts chapter

    Acts 12:24

  1142. 12,

  1143. verse 24,

  1144. but the

  1145. word of

  1146. God

  1147. increased

  1148. and multiplied,

  1149. increased

  1150. and multiplied.

  1151. And Acts

    Acts 16:5

  1152. chapter 16,

  1153. verse 5,

  1154. Acts chapter

    Acts 16:5

  1155. 16,

  1156. verse 5,

  1157. so the

  1158. churches

  1159. were strengthened

  1160. in the

  1161. faith,

  1162. and they

  1163. increased in

  1164. numbers

  1165. daily.

  1166. They

  1167. increased in

  1168. numbers

  1169. daily.

  1170. And Acts

    Acts 19:20

  1171. chapter 19,

  1172. verse 20,

  1173. so the

  1174. word of

  1175. the Lord

  1176. continued to

  1177. increase

  1178. and prevail

  1179. mightily,

  1180. prevail

  1181. mightily.

  1182. And finally,

  1183. Acts chapter

    Acts 28 chapter mention

  1184. 28,

  1185. Paul,

  1186. he lived

  1187. there two

  1188. whole years

  1189. at his

  1190. own expense

  1191. and welcomed

  1192. all who

  1193. came to

  1194. him,

  1195. proclaiming

  1196. the kingdom

  1197. of God

  1198. and teaching

  1199. about the

  1200. Lord Jesus

  1201. Christ with

  1202. all boldness

  1203. and without

  1204. hindrance.

  1205. With all

  1206. boldness

  1207. and without

  1208. hindrance.

  1209. So these

  1210. are the

  1211. summary

  1212. statements

  1213. from the

  1214. book of

  1215. Acts,

  1216. how the

  1217. Lord used

  1218. his people

  1219. to preach

  1220. the gospel

  1221. with much

  1222. boldness,

  1223. in spite of

  1224. persecution,

  1225. in spite of

  1226. religious

  1227. opposition,

  1228. in spite of

  1229. difficulties.

  1230. What did

  1231. they do?

  1232. The early

  1233. church,

  1234. they gathered

  1235. together on

  1236. regular braces,

  1237. praying,

  1238. they listened

  1239. to the

  1240. apostles'

  1241. teaching,

  1242. that's why

  1243. we hear

  1244. God's

  1245. word every

  1246. Sunday or

  1247. in small

  1248. groups and

  1249. even one

  1250. to one.

  1251. We read

  1252. God's

  1253. word,

  1254. we pray

  1255. because we

  1256. receive power

  1257. through God's

  1258. word and

  1259. through his

  1260. spirit.

  1261. And as we

  1262. go out,

  1263. even now as

  1264. we go out,

  1265. friends,

  1266. the Lord

  1267. called us to

  1268. open our

  1269. mouth and

  1270. share the

  1271. gospel with

  1272. people,

  1273. share the

  1274. gospel with

  1275. people.

  1276. So God

  1277. is actively

  1278. bringing about

  1279. the fulfillment

  1280. of his

  1281. plan.

  1282. It is an

  1283. unstoppable

  1284. gospel.

  1285. In so

  1286. many places,

  1287. people are

  1288. trying to

  1289. stop this

  1290. gospel work.

  1291. Even from

  1292. my own

  1293. country,

  1294. it's so

  1295. difficult for

  1296. people to

  1297. go inside

  1298. now.

  1299. But by

  1300. God's

  1301. grace,

  1302. can anyone

  1303. stop the

  1304. gospel?

  1305. No,

  1306. God is

  1307. working.

  1308. God is

  1309. working.

  1310. There are

  1311. people who

  1312. even today,

  1313. how many

  1314. people are

  1315. giving their

  1316. life for

  1317. the sake

  1318. of the

  1319. gospel?

  1320. Even

  1321. today?

  1322. I can

  1323. tell you,

  1324. but for

  1325. sake of

  1326. time,

  1327. I don't

  1328. want to

  1329. tell,

  1330. but there

  1331. are people

  1332. leaving their

  1333. homes,

  1334. leaving their

  1335. families.

  1336. I have

  1337. seen people

  1338. leaving their

  1339. families,

  1340. leaving their

  1341. homes for

  1342. the sake

  1343. of the

  1344. gospel.

  1345. even if,

  1346. for example,

  1347. in some

  1348. places,

  1349. if you

  1350. started

  1351. following

  1352. Jesus

  1353. Christ,

  1354. basically

  1355. you are

  1356. outcasted

  1357. from that

  1358. village.

  1359. They will

  1360. not sit

  1361. with you,

  1362. they will

  1363. not eat

  1364. with you,

  1365. they will

  1366. not invite

  1367. you to

  1368. their birthday

  1369. parties or

  1370. any functions.

  1371. That's the

  1372. cost of

  1373. following

  1374. Jesus.

  1375. but they

  1376. are thankful,

  1377. they are

  1378. joyful for

  1379. following Jesus

  1380. Christ and

  1381. they are

  1382. faithfully

  1383. proclaiming

  1384. his word

  1385. to the

  1386. lost people.

  1387. Time flies

  1388. very fast.

  1389. Our lives

  1390. are here for

  1391. a moment

  1392. and gone

  1393. the next.

  1394. Our lives

  1395. are here for

  1396. a moment.

  1397. This is why

  1398. the Bible

  1399. compares our

  1400. lifespan with

  1401. grass and

  1402. vapor.

  1403. Sadly,

  1404. the world

  1405. is more

  1406. excited about

  1407. things that

  1408. will not

  1409. matter in

  1410. eternity.

  1411. Yet as

  1412. Henry Matthew,

  1413. the great

  1414. commentator,

  1415. once said,

  1416. it ought to

  1417. be the

  1418. business of

  1419. every day

  1420. to prepare

  1421. for our

  1422. last day.

  1423. It ought to

  1424. be the

  1425. business of

  1426. every day

  1427. to prepare

  1428. for the

  1429. last day.

  1430. Or as

  1431. Martin Luther

  1432. says,

  1433. declared,

  1434. there are

  1435. two days

  1436. on my

  1437. calendar.

  1438. There are

  1439. two days

  1440. on my

  1441. calendar.

  1442. Today and

  1443. that day.

  1444. Today and

  1445. that day.

  1446. Honestly,

  1447. a day is

  1448. coming when

  1449. all that

  1450. will really

  1451. matter is

  1452. how you

  1453. and I

  1454. lived our

  1455. life for

  1456. the sake

  1457. of eternity.

  1458. It's great

  1459. we can

  1460. get the

  1461. Lord command

  1462. us to care

  1463. for our

  1464. families,

  1465. our

  1466. children,

  1467. community,

  1468. but more

  1469. than

  1470. everything

  1471. else,

  1472. we have

  1473. to care

  1474. for how

  1475. we live

  1476. today

  1477. for the

  1478. sake of

  1479. the gospel.

  1480. For the

  1481. sake of

  1482. the gospel.

  1483. Why is

  1484. it matter?

  1485. Why should

  1486. we live?

  1487. Why should

  1488. we deny

  1489. ourselves and

  1490. live for

  1491. Jesus Christ?

  1492. One thing

  1493. is the

  1494. Lord called

  1495. us to live

  1496. a faithful

  1497. life and

  1498. the other

  1499. thing,

  1500. not only

  1501. living a

  1502. faithful

  1503. life,

  1504. but to

  1505. share his

  1506. word,

  1507. to share

  1508. his gospel

  1509. with people.

  1510. I'll tell

  1511. you very

  1512. briefly one

  1513. of my

  1514. experiences

  1515. and then

  1516. we'll close

  1517. in prayer.

  1518. There are

  1519. thousands of

  1520. people dying

  1521. every day.

  1522. There are

  1523. thousands of

  1524. people dying

  1525. in different

  1526. places.

  1527. So if you

  1528. and I sit

  1529. comfortably,

  1530. when we have

  1531. the opportunity,

  1532. please open

  1533. our mouths

  1534. and proclaim

  1535. his gospel.

  1536. Pray for

  1537. opportunities.

  1538. Pray for

  1539. opportunities.

  1540. If not,

  1541. what's going

  1542. to happen?

  1543. I tell you.

  1544. This was

  1545. four years

  1546. back,

  1547. four years

  1548. back,

  1549. when I was

  1550. in India.

  1551. I used to

  1552. go to a

  1553. shop with

  1554. myself and

  1555. my wife.

  1556. We go and

  1557. buy clothes

  1558. in that

  1559. shop.

  1560. So once

  1561. in six

  1562. months or

  1563. three months

  1564. and then

  1565. one uncle,

  1566. the shop

  1567. owner,

  1568. we became

  1569. friends with

  1570. him and

  1571. because we

  1572. have known

  1573. him for

  1574. four or

  1575. five years,

  1576. he kept

  1577. all these

  1578. Hindu gods

  1579. pictures on

  1580. his desk.

  1581. In the

  1582. middle of

  1583. all these

  1584. pictures,

  1585. he kept

  1586. the

  1587. Indian

  1588. actress.

  1589. I said,

  1590. Uncle,

  1591. do you

  1592. worship her

  1593. also?

  1594. He was

  1595. like,

  1596. no,

  1597. no,

  1598. no,

  1599. no.

  1600. These

  1601. college

  1602. students,

  1603. they'll

  1604. visit my

  1605. shop.

  1606. I just

  1607. want to

  1608. give them.

  1609. I asked

  1610. him,

  1611. Uncle,

  1612. I would

  1613. love to

  1614. give you

  1615. a Bible.

  1616. Would

  1617. you like

  1618. to read?

  1619. He said,

  1620. son,

  1621. I'm here

  1622. a whole

  1623. day sitting

  1624. from 9

  1625. a.m.

  1626. to 9

  1627. p.m.

  1628. I'll be

  1629. very happy

  1630. to read.

  1631. I said,

  1632. okay,

  1633. Uncle,

  1634. I'll see

  1635. you soon.

  1636. I went

  1637. home and

  1638. I did

  1639. not go to

  1640. that shop

  1641. for three

  1642. months.

  1643. For three

  1644. months.

  1645. After three

  1646. months,

  1647. I went

  1648. to that

  1649. shop and

  1650. his daughter

  1651. was sitting

  1652. on the

  1653. chair.

  1654. His daughter

  1655. was sitting

  1656. and I

  1657. said,

  1658. hi,

  1659. hello,

  1660. where is

  1661. your dad?

  1662. She was

  1663. so serious

  1664. and she

  1665. pointed her

  1666. finger

  1667. upwards.

  1668. My head

  1669. was like

  1670. this and

  1671. I saw

  1672. his picture

  1673. on the

  1674. wall

  1675. with

  1676. flowers

  1677. on it.

  1678. I was

  1679. like,

  1680. what

  1681. happened?

  1682. My dad

  1683. died last

  1684. week with

  1685. a heart

  1686. attack.

  1687. Friends,

  1688. I had

  1689. tears.

  1690. Literally,

  1691. I asked

  1692. forgiveness

  1693. from God.

  1694. Lord,

  1695. please forgive

  1696. me.

  1697. When you

  1698. gave me the

  1699. opportunity

  1700. to witness

  1701. and share

  1702. the gospel

  1703. with this

  1704. man,

  1705. now he's

  1706. gone.

  1707. Now he's

  1708. gone.

  1709. Friends,

  1710. whenever you

  1711. have opportunity,

  1712. please pray for

  1713. opportunities

  1714. that the

  1715. Lord will

  1716. use you.

  1717. The Lord

  1718. will use

  1719. you.

  1720. The reason

  1721. I'm telling

  1722. you,

  1723. it's not

  1724. that we

  1725. sharing the

  1726. gospel,

  1727. we doing,

  1728. you know,

  1729. our God

  1730. is powerful.

  1731. Our God

  1732. is powerful.

  1733. Recently,

  1734. like three

  1735. months,

  1736. two months

  1737. back,

  1738. I met

  1739. one family.

  1740. I did not

  1741. even share

  1742. the gospel

  1743. to them.

  1744. Basically,

  1745. I said,

  1746. like,

  1747. friends,

  1748. please come

  1749. and visit

  1750. our church.

  1751. They came

  1752. the second

  1753. week,

  1754. the wife

  1755. gave his

  1756. life to

  1757. the Lord.

  1758. Just opening

  1759. our mouth,

  1760. opening our

  1761. mouth,

  1762. and just

  1763. sharing the

  1764. goodness of

  1765. God,

  1766. the grace

  1767. of God

  1768. to this

  1769. lost world.

  1770. The early

  1771. church,

  1772. they did

  1773. that.

  1774. The apostles,

  1775. all the

  1776. apostles,

  1777. they gave

  1778. their life

  1779. for the

  1780. sake of

  1781. the gospel.

  1782. They trusted

  1783. in God's

  1784. promises,

  1785. they preached,

  1786. they proclaimed

  1787. God's word,

  1788. and finally,

  1789. they gave

  1790. everything,

  1791. whatever they

  1792. have,

  1793. for the

  1794. sake of

  1795. the gospel.

  1796. God's

  1797. gospel.

  1798. I beg

  1799. you to

  1800. pray

  1801. that the

  1802. Lord will

  1803. show you

  1804. what he

  1805. wants you

  1806. and how

  1807. he's going

  1808. to use

  1809. you to

  1810. share the

  1811. gospel with

  1812. those who

  1813. have not

  1814. heard.

  1815. I pray

  1816. that the

  1817. Lord will

  1818. open the

  1819. eyes.

  1820. I request

  1821. you all

  1822. pray.

  1823. Pray for

  1824. your neighbors,

  1825. pray for

  1826. your co-workers,

  1827. pray that

  1828. they will

  1829. hear the

  1830. gospel,

  1831. and they

  1832. will be

  1833. part of

  1834. the

  1835. churches

  1836. around

  1837. in

  1838. Corp

  1839. or

  1840. Ireland.

  1841. As I'm

  1842. looking at

  1843. the

  1844. sheets

  1845. there,

  1846. see how

  1847. your church

  1848. is passionate

  1849. about taking

  1850. the gospel

  1851. to the

  1852. ends of

  1853. the

  1854. earth.

  1855. Praise

  1856. God.

  1857. Keep up

  1858. the good

  1859. work.

  1860. I pray

  1861. that the

  1862. Lord will

  1863. use you

  1864. all

  1865. mightily,

  1866. not only

  1867. here,

  1868. even to

  1869. the

  1870. ends of

  1871. the

  1872. earth.

  1873. There

  1874. are so

  1875. many

  1876. unreached

  1877. people

  1878. groups.

  1879. Thousands,

  1880. literally,

  1881. they haven't

  1882. heard the

  1883. gospel.

  1884. They haven't

  1885. heard the

  1886. gospel.

  1887. Let's

  1888. pray.

  1889. Father,

  1890. thank you

  1891. so much

  1892. for your

  1893. son,

  1894. Jesus

  1895. Christ.

  1896. Lord,

  1897. we are

  1898. very,

  1899. very grateful

  1900. to him

  1901. for his

  1902. death and

  1903. resurrection.

  1904. Lord,

  1905. thank you

  1906. for granting

  1907. us the

  1908. gift of

  1909. faith and

  1910. repentance.

  1911. Lord,

  1912. thank you

  1913. for giving

  1914. us this

  1915. opportunity

  1916. to gather

  1917. as your

  1918. people and

  1919. worship you

  1920. this morning,

  1921. Lord.

  1922. Lord,

  1923. I pray for

  1924. the people

  1925. here.

  1926. Lord,

  1927. please,

  1928. especially

  1929. if someone

  1930. is not a

  1931. follower of

  1932. Jesus Christ

  1933. here this

  1934. morning,

  1935. I pray,

  1936. Lord,

  1937. that would

  1938. you please

  1939. touch them

  1940. and help

  1941. them to

  1942. follow you,

  1943. Lord.

  1944. Lord,

  1945. this is the

  1946. day.

  1947. Lord,

  1948. we don't

  1949. know what's

  1950. going to

  1951. happen the

  1952. next moment.

  1953. Lord,

  1954. would you

  1955. please grant

  1956. them the

  1957. gift of

  1958. salvation?

  1959. Lord,

  1960. it's a

  1961. free gift

  1962. from you.

  1963. Father God,

  1964. I pray,

  1965. Lord,

  1966. that you

  1967. please work

  1968. in their

  1969. hearts to

  1970. know you

  1971. personally and

  1972. give their

  1973. life to you

  1974. and follow you,

  1975. Lord.

  1976. Father,

  1977. we're grateful

  1978. for this

  1979. church and

  1980. what you're

  1981. doing here,

  1982. Lord.

  1983. Father,

  1984. I pray for

  1985. Pastor Johnny

  1986. and the

  1987. team here

  1988. and the

  1989. people who

  1990. are serving

  1991. in this

  1992. body and

  1993. the members.

  1994. Lord,

  1995. would you

  1996. please continue

  1997. to sustain

  1998. them,

  1999. Lord,

  2000. continue to

  2001. trust in

  2002. your promises

  2003. and in

  2004. spite of

  2005. even

  2006. difficulties

  2007. that they

  2008. will proclaim

  2009. your word
