  1. And so we're going to be looking at some big subjects that's in the media, in the news a lot, in our discussions about our sexual identity, things about life, the sanctity of life, abortion and euthanasia.

  2. So these are some of the topics, issues that we'll be looking at under this title, Made in God's Image.

  3. And the first one that we're looking at today is asking the question, simply, is God anti-gay?

  4. What does the Bible have to teach about that?

  5. Now, the title, I've stolen, and it comes from this little book by a guy called Sam Allerby, who's a pastor in an Anglican church in England.

  6. And the subtitle is, Is God Anti-gay? And Other Questions About Homosexuality, the Bible and Same-Sex Attraction.

  7. So I recommend it as a great little book.

  8. Sam is somebody who struggles, he would say, he struggles with same-sex attraction.

  9. That's how he would describe himself.

  10. And I have a number of these copies available this morning, not enough for everybody, but if you would like one, you can buy it off me for a couple of euro if you like.

  11. Also, by way of resources, if you're taking notes this morning, there's been sheets passed around with headings.

  12. You can write this down, but two websites that you might like to look up.

  13. One is truefreedomtrust.co.uk.

  14. We had the director of that, Jonathan Berry, here a few years ago.

  15. You can listen to his talk on our church website.

  16. But there's a magazine called Ascend, which I get every month or two.

  17. It's excellent.

  18. Really helpful just in how we understand ourselves as human beings and how we relate to each other.

  19. So I recommend that.

  20. So that's True Freedom Trust.

  21. And the other website is simply called Living Out.

  22. All one word, livingout.org.

  23. So have a look at them in your spare time.

  24. You'll find some great stories, testimonies, and helpful things there.

  25. So, with all of that said, we're going to pray and then look at God's word together.

  26. We thank you that we come to a God who loves us, who made us, and who cares for us.

  27. A God who understands us better than we could ever know ourselves.

  28. A God who knows what's best for us.

  29. And so we pray that you would give us hearts today that are open to you and to your truth, to your word.

  30. So that we will understand ourselves better and how we should relate to one another.

  31. Help us then, we ask in Jesus' name.

  32. Amen.

  33. Amen.

  34. So the question we're looking at this morning is, is God anti-gay?

  35. Now, sadly, many have the impression that God is against gay people.

  36. And that's not surprising when you consider the attitude of the church.

  37. The message the world has heard from the church is that being gay is detestable and unforgivable.

  38. Gay people are unwelcome.

  39. Caleb Kaltenbach, who wrote a book, which is also very good, called Messy Grace,

  40. is now a pastor of a church, and he grew up with parents who were both gay.

  41. And growing up as a child within the gay community, he attended gay pride marches.

  42. And he describes one experience as a young person.

  43. He says this,

  44. He continues,

  45. Now, these attitudes are extremely difficult.

  46. They are wrong.

  47. And they need to be repented of.

  48. We all need to repent.

  49. God is not anti-gay any more than God is anti-straight.

  50. Looking back on his experience,

  51. Caleb, who I just quoted, writes this,

  52. Jesus' command to love your neighbour as yourself

  53. does not have an exception clause for a gay neighbour,

  54. or for that matter, any other neighbour we might find it hard to relate to.

  55. To be anti-gay is unloving and ungracious

  56. and does not represent the God of the Bible.

  57. So, four things we're going to discover or look at together this morning.

  58. And I want us to be all-inclusive.

  59. So, there's an emphasis this morning on the word all.

  60. Okay?

  61. So, first, we are all uniquely created.

  62. The story opens with this wonderful account of a loving God

  63. who creates a good and beautiful world.

  64. And the pinnacle of God's creation is the creation of human beings,

  65. people like you and me.

  66. We are first made in God's image.

  67. Look at verse 26, chapter 1, Genesis, if you have it open there.

  68. Then God said,

  69. Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness,

  70. so that they may rule over the fish of the sea,

  71. the birds of the air, over the livestock and all the wild animals

  72. and over all the creatures that move along the ground.

  73. Now, to be made in God's image

  74. means we are uniquely different from the rest of creation.

  75. We're all uniquely different in terms of how we look

  76. and our personalities and characters.

  77. But as a race, as a human being,

  78. we are different from the rest of creation.

  79. We've been made differently to the animals and the plants.

  80. For example, God has given us a command to rule over the animals

  81. as an expression of God's rule over us.

  82. But also, to be made in God's image

  83. means we're not gods,

  84. but that we are like God.

  85. We're not the same as God,

  86. but we're similar to God.

  87. That means we have the capacity to relate to God.

  88. God talks to us,

  89. and, well, we can talk to Him.

  90. God doesn't speak to the animals like He speaks to us.

  91. God treats us differently to the rest of creation.

  92. And God made us in this unique way

  93. so that we could be in relationship with Him,

  94. we could enjoy Him,

  95. and know Him.

  96. So we're uniquely created,

  97. made in God's image,

  98. and made male and female.

  99. Look at verse 27.

  100. So God created mankind in His own image.

  101. In the image of God,

  102. He created them.

  103. Male and female,

  104. He created them.

  105. God made us different to each other.

  106. Different in terms of our sex.

  107. We are either male or we're female.

  108. As male and female,

  109. we're equal in value and worth in God's sight.

  110. But we're different biologically.

  111. And the primary point of our sexual difference

  112. is reproduction.

  113. So look at verse 28.

  114. This is the first command God gives.

  115. God blessed them and said to them,

  116. Be fruitful and increase in number.

  117. Have children.

  118. Fill the earth and subdue it and rule over it.

  119. So as a man and woman engage in sexual intercourse,

  120. they produce either a baby male or a baby female.

  121. And of course there's a context for this sexual union.

  122. It is to be within an exclusive relationship,

  123. what we call marriage,

  124. between one man and one woman.

  125. Verse, chapter 2, verse 24.

  126. Chapter 2, verse 24.

  127. That is why a man leaves his father and mother

  128. and is united to his wife.

  129. And they become one flesh.

  130. So one flesh is that union,

  131. that intimacy that they enjoy together.

  132. So this is how God has made us and designed us.

  133. And when God had finished all of creation,

  134. back in chapter 1, verse 31,

  135. God looked at his creation.

  136. It's like he stepped back

  137. and looked at all that he made

  138. and he said it was very good.

  139. Each one of us is God's unique creation.

  140. Each person a representation,

  141. a reflection of who God is.

  142. We are wonderfully made.

  143. So first, we are all uniquely created by God.

  144. Second, we are all sexually flawed.

  145. We are all sexually flawed.

  146. You see, while God made a beautiful and good world,

  147. it's no longer all good and beautiful.

  148. The world and its people were all broken in different ways.

  149. And Romans, the book of Romans,

  150. explains to us what happened.

  151. It kind of fleshes out a little bit more

  152. what Genesis 3 would have to say.

  153. So let's go to Romans chapter 1.

    Romans 1 chapter mention

  154. Romans 1, verse 21.

    Romans 1:21

  155. So what has happened?

  156. Well, it explains verse 21.

  157. For although they knew God,

  158. so it's talking about all people,

  159. although they knew God,

  160. they neither glorified him as God

  161. nor gave thanks to him.

  162. But their thinking became futile

  163. and their foolish hearts were darkened.

  164. Although they claimed to be wise,

  165. they became fools

  166. and exchanged the glory of the immortal God

  167. for images made to look like mortal human beings

  168. and birds and animals and reptiles.

  169. You see, just like the first man and woman,

  170. Adam and Eve,

  171. that we just read about in Genesis,

  172. we're people who have pushed God out.

  173. pushed God out from the centre

  174. and put ourselves in the centre.

  175. Rather than God tell us how we should live,

  176. we decide how we should live.

  177. It's a little bit like what happens

  178. when I get something from Ikea.

  179. It's an exciting thing for me.

  180. Not many things excite me,

  181. but something from Ikea.

  182. Wow.

  183. I open it up and there's a box full of goodies,

  184. bits of wood,

  185. bags of screws,

  186. all kinds of little things,

  187. and an instruction book.

  188. But why would you ever read the instructions

  189. when you can do it yourself?

  190. Of course, sooner or later,

  191. it has to be taken apart if I can

  192. and read the instructions.

  193. Well, in a sense,

  194. that's what we've done.

  195. We've ignored the creator,

  196. the designer of our lives.

  197. We've pushed him to one side.

  198. We have tried to live life without God.

  199. We think we're being wise,

  200. but we're foolish, verse 22.

  201. Sooner or later,

  202. things become disastrous.

  203. And it has.

  204. The image that we were created in,

  205. the image of God,

  206. made to reflect him,

  207. made to represent him,

  208. has now been distorted.

  209. It's broken.

  210. We no longer reflect God

  211. as we should.

  212. Now, one of the consequences

  213. of this brokenness is,

  214. and there are many,

  215. is that we are all now sexually flawed.

  216. We no longer relate to each other

  217. as human beings as we should.

  218. We're all born where we are,

  219. where our sexuality is confused

  220. and mixed up.

  221. All of us,

  222. whoever we are,

  223. experience fallen sexual desires,

  224. whether those desires are heterosexual

  225. or homosexual.

  226. Very simply,

  227. men and women,

  228. we don't relate to each other

  229. as we're meant to relate to each other.

  230. Now, before we move on,

  231. I think it would be good

  232. just to define

  233. a couple of terms.

  234. Sometimes you hear the expression

  235. homosexual or gay orientation.

  236. That simply means

  237. you are attracted to

  238. someone of the same sex,

  239. a gay or homosexual orientation.

  240. The other is

  241. a heterosexual orientation.

  242. That simply means

  243. you are attracted to someone

  244. of the opposite sex.

  245. Now,

  246. I want to be very clear about this.

  247. Neither orientation

  248. is sinful

  249. in itself.

  250. If my orientation

  251. is that I'm attracted

  252. to the same sex

  253. or the opposite sex,

  254. that's not in itself

  255. sinful.

  256. It's what we do

  257. with our attractions.

  258. That's what's wrong.

  259. It's the behaviour

  260. that matters.

  261. It's how we live our lives.

  262. So, look at Romans 1,

    Romans 1:24

  263. verse 24.

  264. Because we are fallen people,

  265. it says,

  266. God gave them over to,

  267. in their sinful desires

  268. of their hearts,

  269. to sexual impurity.

  270. for the degrading

  271. of their bodies

  272. with one another.

  273. It's talking about

  274. all of us,

  275. whoever we are.

  276. This is what happens.

  277. Verse 25.

  278. They exchanged the truth

  279. about God for a lie

  280. and worshipped

  281. and served created things

  282. rather than the Creator

  283. who is forever praised.

  284. Amen.

  285. Rather than looking

  286. to Christ

  287. or to God

  288. for fulfilment

  289. and satisfaction,

  290. we look to each other,

  291. to relationships

  292. with each other

  293. and in all kinds

  294. of different ways,

  295. distorted relationships.

  296. Because we have turned away

  297. from God's design,

  298. we now live

  299. according to our

  300. fallen sexual desires.

  301. That's why some

  302. with a homosexual orientation

  303. engage in same-sex relationships.

  304. And it's why those

  305. with a homosexual orientation

  306. engage in multiple

  307. sexual relationships.

  308. And even those

  309. who seek to live

  310. within God's design,

  311. that is,

  312. a lifelong marriage

  313. between one man

  314. and one woman,

  315. even they don't relate

  316. to each other

  317. as they should.

  318. We have all failed

  319. and we all fall

  320. in this area.

  321. Now,

  322. living according

  323. to our fallen

  324. sexual desire

  325. is not just simply

  326. a choice

  327. that we make,

  328. something that I

  329. decide to do.

  330. It's actually

  331. judgment

  332. from God.

  333. Look at verse 24.

  334. Look at the words

  335. carefully.

  336. You see,

  337. we think at times

  338. that we're

  339. making all the choices,

  340. but verse 24,

  341. God gave them

  342. over to the

  343. sinful desires

  344. of their hearts

  345. to sexual impurity.

  346. It's like God

  347. removes his hand,

  348. removes his hand

  349. of restraint,

  350. and says,

  351. well, live however

  352. you want,

  353. do whatever

  354. you like.

  355. Verse 26,

  356. because of this,

  357. God gave them

  358. over to shameful

  359. lusts.

  360. Even the women

  361. exchanged natural

  362. sexual relations

  363. for unnatural ones.

  364. In the same way,

  365. the men also

  366. abandoned natural

  367. relations with women

  368. and were inflamed

  369. with lust for one

  370. another.

  371. You see,

  372. God's judgment

  373. is giving to us

  374. what we want.

  375. It's letting us

  376. live without

  377. any kind of

  378. restriction,

  379. any kind of

  380. restraint.

  381. And rather than

  382. bring blessing,

  383. it leads to

  384. brokenness

  385. and distorted

  386. lives.

  387. It leads to

  388. an eternity

  389. without God

  390. and without

  391. his good gifts.

  392. And in case

  393. anyone is reading

  394. and thinking,

  395. well, you know what,

  396. I'm not like that.

  397. I'm not twisted.

  398. I'm not distorted.

  399. I don't have

  400. anything wrong.

  401. I'm sexually

  402. pure.

  403. We'll have a look

  404. at chapter 2,

  405. verse 1.

  406. You,

  407. therefore,

  408. have no excuse,

  409. you who pass

  410. judgment on

  411. someone else.

  412. For at whatever

  413. point you judge

  414. another,

  415. you are condemning

  416. yourself,

  417. because you who

  418. pass judgment

  419. do the same

  420. things.

  421. let not one

  422. of us go

  423. pointing fingers

  424. at other people

  425. and saying

  426. what an awful

  427. life someone

  428. may live.

  429. All of us

  430. are sexually

  431. flawed,

  432. men and

  433. women,

  434. whatever our

  435. orientation may

  436. be.

  437. No one lives

  438. according to

  439. God's good

  440. design.

  441. So we are

  442. all uniquely

  443. created.

  444. We are all

  445. sexually flawed.

  446. God.

  447. Third,

  448. but we are

  449. all equally

  450. loved.

  451. We are all

  452. equally loved.

  453. God is our

  454. loving creator.

  455. He loves us

  456. immensely.

  457. And in fact,

  458. the picture of the

  459. Bible all the way

  460. through is this,

  461. that the more

  462. human beings

  463. turn away from

  464. God,

  465. the more we

  466. rebel against

  467. him,

  468. the more he

  469. pursues us

  470. in love.

  471. Have a look at

  472. Romans chapter 5,

    Romans 5:6

  473. verse 6.

  474. It's a wonderful

  475. description of

  476. God's love

  477. for us.

  478. Romans 5,

    Romans 5:6

  479. verse 6.

  480. You see,

  481. at just the

  482. right time,

  483. when we were

  484. still powerless,

  485. when we were

  486. still powerless,

  487. when we were

  488. still living

  489. according to our

  490. sinful nature,

  491. when we were

  492. still acting out

  493. our fallen

  494. sexual desires,

  495. when we were

  496. unable to change

  497. our behaviour

  498. or attitudes

  499. towards each

  500. other,

  501. at just the

  502. right time,

  503. when we were

  504. still powerless,

  505. Christ died

  506. for the

  507. ungodly.

  508. God had

  509. every right,

  510. and he has

  511. every right.

  512. He would be

  513. perfectly just

  514. to condemn us,

  515. but instead,

  516. verse 7,

  517. he dies

  518. for us.

  519. very rarely

  520. will anyone

  521. die for a

  522. righteous person,

  523. those who do

  524. good,

  525. though for a

  526. good person,

  527. someone might

  528. possibly dare

  529. to die.

  530. It's possible

  531. that someone

  532. would die

  533. for a good

  534. person.

  535. But,

  536. verse 8,

  537. God demonstrates

  538. his own love

  539. for us in this,

  540. while we were

  541. still sinners,

  542. enemies,

  543. rebels,

  544. walking away

  545. from God,

  546. ignoring him,

  547. pushing him

  548. out.

  549. Christ died

  550. for us.

  551. This is the

  552. beauty of

  553. God's love.

  554. He doesn't

  555. say,

  556. now look,

  557. stop behaving

  558. like that,

  559. and then I

  560. will love you.

  561. God doesn't

  562. say,

  563. change how you

  564. think or how

  565. you feel

  566. towards other

  567. people,

  568. and then I

  569. will love you.

  570. No,

  571. God sees us

  572. in our sexually

  573. flawed,

  574. sinful mess,

  575. and he says,

  576. I love you.

  577. In fact,

  578. he doesn't

  579. just say it,

  580. he demonstrates

  581. it,

  582. verse 8.

  583. He demonstrated,

  584. he took action,

  585. he came into

  586. the world,

  587. the God-man

  588. came to us,

  589. and he died

  590. for us.

  591. That is the

  592. love of God

  593. for all people.

  594. And this love

  595. can be experienced.

  596. You see,

  597. when Christ

  598. died,

  599. something wonderful

  600. happened.

  601. Look at just

  602. the last few

  603. words of

  604. verse 8.

  605. It said,

  606. Christ died

  607. for us.

  608. That's in

  609. our place.

  610. That's the

  611. meaning,

  612. in our place.

  613. Jesus Christ

  614. came as

  615. someone who

  616. is absolutely

  617. pure,

  618. and he

  619. came to

  620. take all

  621. our sin,

  622. all our

  623. flawed sexuality

  624. on himself,

  625. all our

  626. past,

  627. all our

  628. struggles,

  629. so that

  630. we might be

  631. forgiven,

  632. and so that

  633. we might be

  634. treated

  635. as a

  636. sexually

  637. pure

  638. child of

  639. God.

  640. He takes

  641. our sexually

  642. flawed sin

  643. and treats

  644. us as

  645. God's

  646. sexually

  647. pure

  648. son.

  649. Jesus is

  650. condemned

  651. in our

  652. place.

  653. He sets

  654. us free

  655. from our

  656. past.

  657. He sets

  658. us free

  659. from our

  660. sin.

  661. He takes

  662. my life so

  663. that I can

  664. receive his

  665. good and

  666. perfect life.

  667. You see,

  668. one of the

  669. things about

  670. our sexual

  671. immorality,

  672. whether

  673. homosexual

  674. or heterosexual,

  675. is it can

  676. leave us

  677. feeling unclean

  678. and unacceptable.

  679. We can engage

  680. in a relationship

  681. that's wrong.

  682. We can act

  683. out an image

  684. or a thought

  685. and we feel

  686. dirty inside.

  687. Well,

  688. the good news

  689. is that Jesus

  690. has come to

  691. take our

  692. uncleanness

  693. and to give

  694. us his

  695. cleanness.

  696. Nothing that

  697. we can do

  698. can ever make

  699. God unclean.

  700. He comes to

  701. us to make

  702. us perfectly

  703. clean.

  704. Now,

  705. if we're to

  706. experience this

  707. love,

  708. it does require

  709. a response.

  710. We were singing

  711. about it earlier.

  712. It requires

  713. repentance.

  714. A turning

  715. around from

  716. going the way

  717. we go to

  718. turning towards

  719. God.

  720. Entrusting

  721. our life to

  722. him.

  723. He owns

  724. our life.

  725. He made

  726. us.

  727. He creates

  728. us.

  729. He knows

  730. what's best

  731. for us.

  732. And the

  733. only right

  734. thing to do

  735. is to submit

  736. to him

  737. and to

  738. follow him

  739. as the

  740. God who

  741. loves us

  742. more than

  743. we could

  744. ever imagine.

  745. So,

  746. we are all

  747. uniquely

  748. created.

  749. We are all

  750. sexually

  751. flawed.

  752. We are all

  753. equally loved.

  754. and we

  755. can all

  756. be

  757. graciously

  758. changed.

  759. You see,

  760. God loves

  761. us so much

  762. that he not

  763. only just

  764. dies for

  765. us,

  766. he loves

  767. us enough

  768. to change

  769. us.

  770. You see,

  771. the image

  772. that we

  773. were made,

  774. created in

  775. the beginning,

  776. made in

  777. God's image,

  778. has now

  779. been broken

  780. but can

  781. once again

  782. be restored.

  783. You see,

  784. when we

  785. entrust our

  786. life,

  787. here's the

  788. promise,

  789. if I

  790. entrust my

  791. life to

  792. God,

  793. I can be

  794. graciously

  795. changed.

  796. What will

  797. that change

  798. look like?

  799. Well,

  800. three things.

  801. First,

  802. I am

  803. changed.

  804. Look at

  805. 2 Corinthians

    2 Corinthians 5:17

  806. chapter 5

  807. verse 17,

  808. so just

  809. go forward

  810. a little

  811. bit.

  812. 2 Corinthians

    2 Corinthians 5:17

  813. chapter 5

  814. verse 17.

  815. 2 Corinthians

    2 Corinthians 5:17

  816. 5 verse 17.

  817. We read it

  818. at the very

  819. beginning.

  820. Therefore,

  821. if anyone

  822. is in

  823. Christ,

  824. if anyone

  825. has entrusted

  826. their life

  827. to Christ,

  828. the new

  829. creation

  830. has come

  831. or they

  832. are a

  833. new

  834. creation,

  835. the old

  836. is gone,

  837. the new

  838. is here.

  839. It's a

  840. wonderful

  841. picture of

  842. what God

  843. has done

  844. for us.

  845. We are

  846. new

  847. creations.

  848. Just think

  849. of that

  850. image from

  851. creation

  852. itself,

  853. that dirty

  854. little

  855. caterpillar

  856. grub

  857. that forms

  858. into a

  859. chrysalis

  860. and then

  861. all of a

  862. sudden it

  863. bursts from

  864. its shell

  865. into a

  866. beautiful

  867. colourful

  868. butterfly.

  869. The old

  870. is gone,

  871. the new

  872. has come.

  873. God now

  874. looks at

  875. us,

  876. when we

  877. trust in

  878. him,

  879. as a

  880. new

  881. creation.

  882. He

  883. transforms

  884. us into

  885. new

  886. people.

  887. He gives

  888. us a

  889. fresh start,

  890. a new

  891. beginning.

  892. He gives

  893. us new

  894. desires to

  895. live his

  896. way.

  897. He gives

  898. us his

  899. Holy Spirit

  900. so that we

  901. can live

  902. and obey

  903. him.

  904. You see,

  905. God now

  906. sees us

  907. differently

  908. to how we

  909. see ourselves.

  910. We often

  911. view each

  912. other in

  913. terms of

  914. our

  915. sexuality,

  916. that person's

  917. gay,

  918. that person's

  919. straight.

  920. God

  921. doesn't do

  922. that.

  923. He either

  924. sees us as

  925. one that

  926. you are a

  927. new

  928. creation,

  929. or he

  930. looks at

  931. people and

  932. says,

  933. you are a

  934. potential new

  935. creation.

  936. Now,

  937. wouldn't that

  938. transform our

  939. whole view

  940. of one

  941. another if

  942. we could

  943. see each

  944. other in

  945. that way?

  946. We are

  947. either a

  948. new

  949. creation,

  950. or someone's

  951. a potential

  952. new

  953. creation.

  954. When we

  955. entrust our

  956. life to

  957. Christ,

  958. I am

  959. changed.

  960. I am a

  961. brand new

  962. person.

  963. Second,

  964. I am

  965. being

  966. changed.

  967. Now,

  968. just as

  969. we receive

  970. or are

  971. given this

  972. new

  973. creation,

  974. that does

  975. not mean

  976. perfection.

  977. We will

  978. continue to

  979. struggle with

  980. our sexual

  981. desires.

  982. We still

  983. will face

  984. temptation.

  985. We will

  986. fail and

  987. we will

  988. fall.

  989. All these

  990. things will

  991. go on

  992. through our

  993. life.

  994. But there

  995. is a

  996. process of

  997. change going

  998. on through

  999. our life at

  1000. the same

  1001. time.

  1002. if you

  1003. just go

  1004. back a

  1005. page or

  1006. two or

  1007. a chapter

  1008. or two

  1009. Corinthians

  1010. chapter 3

  1011. verse 18.

  1012. Corinthians

  1013. 3

  1014. verse 18.

  1015. It says

  1016. there,

  1017. because of

  1018. the change

  1019. God has

  1020. brought

  1021. about,

  1022. well,

  1023. let's

  1024. read verse

  1025. 17,

  1026. actually.

  1027. Now,

  1028. the Lord

  1029. is the

  1030. Spirit,

  1031. and where

  1032. the Spirit

  1033. of the

  1034. Lord is,

  1035. there is

  1036. freedom.

  1037. So we

  1038. can come

  1039. to him,

  1040. and we

  1041. and we

  1042. all who

  1043. with unveiled

  1044. faces

  1045. contemplate

  1046. or reflect

  1047. the Lord's

  1048. glory,

  1049. so as we've

  1050. received this

  1051. new creation,

  1052. as we are

  1053. new people,

  1054. we are being

  1055. transformed

  1056. into his

  1057. image

  1058. with ever

  1059. increasing

  1060. glory,

  1061. which comes

  1062. from the

  1063. Lord who

  1064. is the

  1065. Spirit.

  1066. Did you

  1067. get that?

  1068. We are

  1069. being

  1070. transformed

  1071. into his

  1072. image.

  1073. God,

  1074. by his

  1075. Holy Spirit,

  1076. is changing

  1077. us and

  1078. transforming

  1079. us into

  1080. his image.

  1081. God's

  1082. desire

  1083. is to

  1084. make us

  1085. more like

  1086. the Lord

  1087. Jesus.

  1088. That's what

  1089. he's seeking

  1090. to do

  1091. in us

  1092. all.

  1093. You see,

  1094. we think

  1095. it's all

  1096. about changing

  1097. behaviours,

  1098. about changing

  1099. how I

  1100. feel.

  1101. Well,

  1102. the change

  1103. that God

  1104. is interested

  1105. in is

  1106. transforming

  1107. us into

  1108. the image

  1109. of Jesus.

  1110. The question

  1111. is not

  1112. what is my

  1113. orientation

  1114. and should

  1115. my orientation

  1116. change,

  1117. but am I

  1118. becoming more

  1119. like Jesus?

  1120. That's what

  1121. he's changing

  1122. us into.

  1123. So I am

  1124. a new

  1125. creation,

  1126. I am

  1127. being transformed

  1128. and changed

  1129. into the

  1130. image of

  1131. Jesus,

  1132. and third,

  1133. I will

  1134. be changed.

  1135. We need

  1136. to go

  1137. back a

  1138. couple more

  1139. pages to

  1140. the end

  1141. of 1 Corinthians

    1 Corinthians 15:49

  1142. chapter 15

  1143. verse 49.

  1144. 1 Corinthians

    1 Corinthians 15:49

  1145. 15

  1146. verse 49.

  1147. Here's a

  1148. wonderful

  1149. verse

  1150. about

  1151. who we

  1152. are

  1153. or rather

  1154. what we

  1155. will

  1156. become.

  1157. Verse 49,

  1158. and just

  1159. as we

  1160. have borne

  1161. the image

  1162. of the

  1163. earthly

  1164. man,

  1165. so just

  1166. as we

  1167. have been

  1168. like our

  1169. ancestor

  1170. Adam in

  1171. our fallen

  1172. nature,

  1173. broken

  1174. image,

  1175. so shall

  1176. we bear

  1177. the image

  1178. of the

  1179. heavenly

  1180. man,

  1181. talking about

  1182. Christ.

  1183. One day

  1184. we will

  1185. be like

  1186. Jesus.

  1187. We were

  1188. made in

  1189. the image

  1190. of God,

  1191. but that image

  1192. has been

  1193. broken and

  1194. distorted.

  1195. We are

  1196. in the

  1197. process of

  1198. being

  1199. transformed

  1200. bit by

  1201. bit,

  1202. shaped and

  1203. conformed

  1204. to be

  1205. more like

  1206. Christ each

  1207. and every

  1208. day,

  1209. but we

  1210. can also

  1211. look forward

  1212. to that

  1213. image being

  1214. completely

  1215. restored and

  1216. made right.

  1217. We will

  1218. bear the

  1219. image of

  1220. the heavenly

  1221. man,

  1222. the Lord

  1223. Jesus.

  1224. One day

  1225. we will

  1226. experience our

  1227. full and

  1228. final transformation

  1229. no more

  1230. sin,

  1231. no more

  1232. temptation,

  1233. no more

  1234. struggles,

  1235. no more

  1236. confused

  1237. sexual desires.

  1238. The broken

  1239. image will

  1240. be fully

  1241. restored and

  1242. we will

  1243. be like

  1244. Jesus.

  1245. You see,

  1246. the point

  1247. is,

  1248. God is

  1249. not

  1250. anti

  1251. any one

  1252. of us.

  1253. He longs

  1254. that people

  1255. like us

  1256. would run

  1257. to him

  1258. just as

  1259. we are,

  1260. however we

  1261. feel,

  1262. whatever we

  1263. have done,

  1264. that we

  1265. would run

  1266. to him

  1267. so that

  1268. we can

  1269. become

  1270. more like

  1271. Jesus,

  1272. forgiven

  1273. people,

  1274. that we

  1275. could be

  1276. changed to

  1277. be more

  1278. like him

  1279. bit by

  1280. bit,

  1281. with the

  1282. future hope

  1283. and the

  1284. assurance

  1285. of one

  1286. day,

  1287. I will

  1288. see him

  1289. and I

  1290. will be

  1291. like him.

  1292. That is

  1293. God's

  1294. plan for

  1295. every human

  1296. being.

  1297. That is

  1298. his desire.

  1299. Uniquely

  1300. created,

  1301. but sexually

  1302. flawed,

  1303. wonderfully,

  1304. equally loved,

  1305. and by

  1306. trusting in

  1307. him,

  1308. we can all

  1309. be graciously

  1310. changed.

  1311. let's pray

  1312. together.

  1313. Father,

  1314. thank you

  1315. for your

  1316. word,

  1317. for its

  1318. truth,

  1319. for its

  1320. clarity,

  1321. helping us

  1322. to see

  1323. that we

  1324. have been

  1325. made by

  1326. you.

  1327. Yes,

  1328. we confess

  1329. that we

  1330. have pushed

  1331. you out

  1332. and we

  1333. are sorry,

  1334. we repent

  1335. of that.

  1336. Thank you

  1337. that you

  1338. love us.

  1339. You love

  1340. us enough

  1341. to die

  1342. for us,

  1343. but love

  1344. us enough

  1345. to go

  1346. on changing

  1347. us.

  1348. And we

  1349. pray that

  1350. by your

  1351. Holy Spirit

  1352. that you

  1353. would continually

  1354. transform us

  1355. to be made

  1356. more like

  1357. the Lord
