  1. 1-0-5-8 in the Church Bible, starting in verse 47.

  2. While he was still speaking, a crowd came up, and the man who was called Judas, one of the twelve, was leading them.

  3. He approached Jesus to kiss him.

  4. But Jesus asked him, Judas, are you betraying the Son of Man with a kiss?

  5. When Jesus' followers saw what was going to happen, they said, Lord, should we strike with our swords?

  6. And one of them struck the servant of the high priest, cutting off his right ear.

  7. But Jesus answered, no, more of this, no more of this.

  8. And he touched the man's ear and healed him.

  9. Then Jesus said to the chief priests, the officers of the temple guard, and the elders who had come for him,

  10. Am I leading a rebellion, that you have come with swords and clubs?

  11. Every day I was with you in the temple courts, and you did not lay a hand on me.

  12. But this is your hour, when darkness reigns.

  13. Then seizing him, they led him away and took him into the house of the high priest.

  14. Peter followed at a distance, and when some there had kindled a fire in the middle of the courtyard

  15. and had sat down together, Peter sat down with them.

  16. A servant girl saw him seated there in the firelight.

  17. She looked closely at him and said, this man was with him.

  18. But he denied it.

  19. Woman, I don't know him, he said.

  20. A little later, someone else saw him and said, you also are one of them.

  21. Man, I am not, Peter replied.

  22. About an hour later, another asserted, certainly this fellow was with him, for he is a Galilean.

  23. Peter replied, man, I don't know what you're talking about.

  24. Just as he was speaking, the cock crowed.

  25. The Lord turned and looked straight at Peter.

  26. Then Peter remembered the word of the Lord had spoken to him.

  27. Before the cock crows today, you will disown me three times.

  28. And he went outside and wept bitterly.

  29. Let's pray.

  30. Father, thank you for this account of the Lord Jesus and his followers.

  31. Written to tell us the true events of the life of Jesus.

  32. Father, we pray that we, as we listen together, would be able to enter into this account.

  33. That you would show us where we fit in this story.

  34. And ultimately, that you would show us how we desperately need the Lord Jesus.

  35. So speak afresh to us today.

  36. We ask in your name. Amen.

  37. Well, how do you feel when people hurt you?

  38. When a friend turns their back on you?

  39. Or someone breaks a promise they've made to you?

  40. How do you feel when that happens?

  41. Isolated and alone?

  42. Broken and crushed?

  43. What do you think should happen to someone who hurts you?

  44. Well, Jesus had a close circle of friends, the disciples.

  45. Carefully chosen by Jesus.

  46. They'd lived and worked together for the last three years.

  47. They'd been through some amazing experiences together.

  48. We could say they trusted one another.

  49. But those who claimed to be his closest friends all deserted Jesus.

  50. In fact, one betrayed Jesus and another denied Jesus.

  51. Three things we're going to look at this morning.

  52. Darkness falls.

  53. Disciples fail.

  54. And grace flows.

  55. First of all, darkness falls.

  56. It is night.

  57. It's dark.

  58. Jesus is with his disciples in the olive grove.

  59. He's been there praying.

  60. But it's not just the darkness of the night.

  61. There is the darkness of Satan's work.

  62. In just a few hours, Jesus will be put to death, brutally executed.

  63. But first, his arrest.

  64. Look at verse 52.

  65. Then Jesus said to the chief priests, the officers of the temple guard, and the elders who had come for him,

  66. that is, had come to arrest him,

  67. Am I leading a rebellion that you come with swords and clubs?

  68. Look, every day I was with you in the temple courts,

  69. and you did not lay a hand on me.

  70. But this is your hour when darkness reigns.

  71. Yes, the religious authorities have been plotting and planning to get rid of Jesus.

  72. But behind their schemes is this sinister work of Satan.

  73. As it says at the end of verse 53,

  74. This is your hour when darkness reigns.

  75. Of course, Satan has been present all along through the account of Luke's gospel.

  76. Way back in Luke chapter 3,

    Luke 3 chapter mention

  77. we read of Satan's temptation of Jesus in the wilderness.

  78. This is how Luke records it.

  79. When the devil had finished all this tempting,

  80. he left him until an opportune time.

  81. And it seems that now that time has come.

  82. The hour of darkness reigns.

  83. All the forces of evil are coming together under the direction of Satan.

  84. Have a look back at chapter 22, verse 3.

  85. There we read, chapter 22, verse 3,

  86. Then Satan entered Judas, called Iscariot, one of the twelve.

  87. Verse 31.

  88. Simon, Simon, Satan has asked to sift all of you as wheat.

  89. This is what Satan does.

  90. His aim is to destroy the work of Jesus and his followers.

  91. But what Satan sets out to achieve,

  92. let us remember, it is ultimately under the control and the plan of God.

  93. God allows.

  94. It's like he gives permission for these evil forces to kill Jesus.

  95. That's why Jesus says to them,

  96. This is your hour.

  97. This is your allotted time when darkness reigns.

  98. Oh, you had that opportunity to arrest me,

  99. but it wasn't my time.

  100. But now you can.

  101. For now this is the hour, the time when darkness reigns.

  102. But little do they know that the death of Jesus is the means by which he will destroy and defeat the work of Satan

  103. and provide salvation for all who will trust him.

  104. So as Jesus heads to the cross,

  105. the darkness falls.

  106. Second,

  107. the disciples fail.

  108. As the evil forces scheme,

  109. those closest to Jesus fail.

  110. First,

  111. betrayed by a kiss.

  112. It couldn't have come at a worse time.

  113. Remember,

  114. Jesus has just faced the reality of going to the cross.

  115. He will have to drink the cup.

  116. He's going to face God's judgment.

  117. He will experience hell.

  118. Jesus is in physical and emotional breakdown.

  119. Back in verse 44,

  120. we're told that his sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground.

  121. So,

  122. if you need support,

  123. now is the time.

  124. You need your friends at this moment to gather around you,

  125. to support you,

  126. to pray for you,

  127. to be there.

  128. But that's not what happens.

  129. Verse 47,

  130. while he was still speaking,

  131. a crowd came up

  132. and the man who was called Judas,

  133. one of the twelve,

  134. was leading them.

  135. Judas is one of the disciples.

  136. What's he up to?

  137. Why is he with this crowd?

  138. Why wasn't he with the other disciples?

  139. Well,

  140. look back to the beginning of chapter 22,

  141. verse 1.

  142. Chapter 22,

  143. verse 1.

  144. Now,

  145. the festival of unleavened bread,

  146. called the Passover.

  147. Remember,

  148. the Passover was the time,

  149. the annual celebration

  150. of that great rescue from Egypt.

  151. The rescue from slavery.

  152. That's what they're celebrating.

  153. So,

  154. the festival was approaching.

  155. Verse 2,

  156. and the chief priests

  157. and the teachers of the law

  158. were looking for some way

  159. to get rid of Jesus,

  160. for they were afraid of the people.

  161. Then Satan entered Judas.

  162. That is,

  163. he came and tempted him.

  164. Called Iscariot,

  165. one of the twelve.

  166. And Judas went to the chief priests

  167. and the officers of the temple guard

  168. and discussed with them

  169. how he might betray Jesus.

  170. And they were delighted

  171. and agreed to give Judas money.

  172. Judas consented

  173. and watched for an opportunity

  174. to hand Jesus over to them

  175. when no crowd was present.

  176. There is nothing worse

  177. than the betrayal of a friend

  178. that you love.

  179. And then the betrayal happened.

  180. Look at verse 47.

  181. The end of verse 47.

  182. Judas approached Jesus

  183. to kiss him.

  184. But Jesus asked him,

  185. Judas,

  186. are you betraying the Son of Man

  187. with a kiss?

  188. A kiss

  189. is for a friend,

  190. someone you love.

  191. The only other time

  192. a kiss is mentioned in Luke,

  193. I wonder if you can remember it,

  194. is when the sinful woman

  195. came into that crowd,

  196. into Simon's house

  197. and, well,

  198. she kept kissing

  199. Jesus' feet.

  200. It was an expression

  201. of deep love

  202. and devotion.

  203. But the kiss of Judas,

  204. well, it was like

  205. a stab in the back.

  206. Judas betrayed Jesus.

  207. How do you feel about Judas?

  208. What do you think

  209. should happen to him?

  210. Well, the most disturbing thing

  211. in all of this is,

  212. I am Judas.

  213. And you are Judas.

  214. Because we all betray Jesus.

  215. Jesus.

  216. Look again what Judas did

  217. back in chapter 22,

  218. verse 4.

  219. Judas went

  220. to the chief priests

  221. and the officers

  222. and the temple guard

  223. and discussed with them.

  224. They planned

  225. and talked it through together

  226. how he might betray Jesus.

  227. And they were delighted

  228. and agreed

  229. to give him money.

  230. Jesus had called Judas

  231. to be a disciple.

  232. They'd been together

  233. for three years

  234. as close friends.

  235. Jesus was going to die

  236. for Judas.

  237. But for Judas,

  238. Jesus wasn't enough.

  239. He wanted something more.

  240. He exchanged Jesus

  241. for something else.

  242. In this case,

  243. he got money.

  244. And that's what betrayal is.

  245. It's turning your back

  246. on someone else

  247. to gain something else.

  248. And that's what I do.

  249. And that's what we do.

  250. We turn our back on Jesus

  251. to get the things

  252. that we want.

  253. Because Jesus doesn't give

  254. what I demand

  255. and what I want

  256. when I want,

  257. well, I betray him.

  258. I turn my back on him.

  259. We exchange him

  260. for other things

  261. and other people.

  262. So there is the betrayal

  263. by a kiss.

  264. Second, there's denial

  265. by lies.

  266. You see, Judas wasn't

  267. the only one

  268. to turn his back

  269. on Jesus.

  270. In fact, Jesus said

  271. that Peter would

  272. deny him.

  273. Peter is horrified

  274. at the very thought of it.

  275. Go back to chapter 22,

  276. verse 33.

  277. So Jesus has just said

  278. to Peter

  279. that he's going

  280. to deny him.

  281. Verse 33.

  282. But Peter replied,

  283. Lord,

  284. I'm ready to go

  285. with you to prison

  286. and to death.

  287. Jesus answered,

  288. I tell you, Peter,

  289. before the cock crows today,

  290. you will deny

  291. three times

  292. that you know me.

  293. What must Peter

  294. have thought?

  295. Jesus must be mad.

  296. There's no way

  297. I would turn

  298. my back on Jesus.

  299. Well, yeah,

  300. others might,

  301. but not me.

  302. Well, in a few hours,

  303. Peter had the chance

  304. to prove himself.

  305. Verse 54.

  306. Then seizing Jesus,

  307. they led him away

  308. and took him

  309. into a house

  310. of the high priest.

  311. Peter followed

  312. at a distance.

  313. And when some there

  314. had kindled a fire

  315. in the middle

  316. of the courtyard

  317. and had sat down

  318. together,

  319. Peter sat down

  320. with them.

  321. Just even in that

  322. little phrase,

  323. sitting down

  324. with them,

  325. he's become a part

  326. of that little crowd.

  327. A servant girl

  328. saw him seated there

  329. in the firelight.

  330. She looked closely

  331. at him and said,

  332. this man

  333. was with him.

  334. But Peter denied it.

  335. Woman,

  336. I don't know him,

  337. he said.

  338. A little later,

  339. someone else saw him

  340. and said,

  341. yes,

  342. yes,

  343. you,

  344. you also

  345. were one of them.

  346. You're one

  347. of those disciples.

  348. Man,

  349. I am not,

  350. Peter replied.

  351. About an hour

  352. later,

  353. another asserted,

  354. yes,

  355. certainly

  356. this fellow

  357. was with him,

  358. for he is a Galilean.

  359. I recognize

  360. the accent.

  361. Yes,

  362. you're one

  363. of those people.

  364. Peter replied,

  365. man,

  366. I don't know

  367. what you're

  368. talking about.

  369. We could perhaps

  370. understand one

  371. denial

  372. and then kind of

  373. remove yourself.

  374. We might have a little

  375. sympathy for two

  376. denials,

  377. but three?

  378. Peter had at least

  379. an hour to think

  380. of what he might

  381. say,

  382. but when the

  383. pressure came

  384. on,

  385. Peter crumbled

  386. in a heap.

  387. Just as he

  388. was speaking,

  389. the cock

  390. crowed.

  391. A few hours

  392. earlier,

  393. he was claiming

  394. to be the strongest,

  395. the greatest

  396. disciple.

  397. Lord,

  398. I'm ready to go

  399. with you to prison

  400. and to death,

  401. but when it

  402. really mattered,

  403. when it

  404. really counted,

  405. Peter couldn't

  406. even bring

  407. himself to say

  408. that he just

  409. knew Jesus.

  410. He couldn't

  411. say it.

  412. Well,

  413. I'm sure we

  414. could all do

  415. a lot better

  416. than Peter,

  417. couldn't we?

  418. Well,

  419. the sad

  420. reality is,

  421. I am just

  422. like Peter.

  423. Peter.

  424. You are just

  425. like Peter.

  426. We all

  427. deny Jesus.

  428. Peter,

  429. I mean,

  430. Peter's not

  431. stupid.

  432. He knew what

  433. was happening.

  434. Jesus had been

  435. saying all along

  436. that he would

  437. be arrested,

  438. that he would

  439. die,

  440. and now he

  441. realizes that

  442. Jesus is going

  443. to die.

  444. And Peter

  445. knows that if

  446. he's associated

  447. with Jesus,

  448. well,

  449. he might die

  450. too.

  451. And in the

  452. cold and

  453. dark reality

  454. of the

  455. courtyard,

  456. Peter decides

  457. that saving

  458. his life is

  459. more important

  460. than loving

  461. Jesus.

  462. And we're

  463. no different.

  464. When the

  465. pressure comes

  466. on,

  467. our life

  468. becomes more

  469. important than

  470. loving Jesus.

  471. If letting

  472. people know

  473. that,

  474. well,

  475. yes,

  476. I'm a

  477. Christian,

  478. means that

  479. life is

  480. going to

  481. be tough,

  482. then I

  483. choose

  484. comfort.

  485. If standing

  486. up for what

  487. I believe

  488. means I

  489. might lose

  490. one of my

  491. friends or

  492. I might fall

  493. out of favour

  494. with my

  495. boss,

  496. well,

  497. I'm going to

  498. choose my

  499. friends every

  500. time.

  501. We deny

  502. him.

  503. Our lives

  504. are more

  505. important

  506. than loving

  507. Jesus.

  508. you see,

  509. as followers

  510. of Jesus,

  511. in the

  512. darkness of

  513. temptation,

  514. we all

  515. fail.

  516. The

  517. darkness

  518. falls,

  519. the

  520. disciples

  521. fail,

  522. but

  523. wonderfully

  524. grace flows.

  525. Jesus

  526. offers

  527. grace.

  528. Look at

  529. how Jesus

  530. responds to

  531. all that is

  532. going on.

  533. Think of the

  534. darkness that

  535. is weighing in

  536. upon him.

  537. Think of the

  538. failure of

  539. those closest

  540. to him,

  541. and look at

  542. how Jesus

  543. responds.

  544. Look at

  545. verse 48.

  546. Judas

  547. approached

  548. Jesus to

  549. kiss him,

  550. but Jesus

  551. asked him,

  552. Judas,

  553. are you

  554. betraying the

  555. Son of

  556. Man with

  557. a kiss?

  558. Are you

  559. sure?

  560. Are you

  561. sure you

  562. want to go

  563. through with

  564. this,

  565. Judas?

  566. Don't you

  567. realise who

  568. I am?

  569. I am the

  570. Son of

  571. Man,

  572. the one

  573. with absolute

  574. power and

  575. supreme

  576. authority.

  577. I have

  578. power to

  579. judge you.

  580. but I

  581. have

  582. authority to

  583. forgive you.

  584. There is

  585. a way back

  586. from this,

  587. Judas.

  588. Listen

  589. to my

  590. word of

  591. grace.

  592. The same

  593. opportunity is

  594. given to

  595. Peter.

  596. Look over

  597. at verse

  598. 61.

  599. Try and

  600. picture yourself

  601. in that

  602. moment.

  603. The denials

  604. have just

  605. happened.

  606. you've

  607. heard the

  608. cock

  609. crowed.

  610. The

  611. Lord

  612. turned and

  613. looked

  614. straight

  615. at

  616. Peter.

  617. Across

  618. the

  619. courtyard,

  620. amidst

  621. all the

  622. noise,

  623. through the

  624. flicker of

  625. the flames,

  626. their eyes

  627. connect.

  628. It seems

  629. what must

  630. be like

  631. an eternity.

  632. Jesus

  633. and Peter

  634. just locked

  635. looking at

  636. each other.

  637. Jesus

  638. looks

  639. and Peter

  640. remembers.

  641. Rest of

  642. verse 61.

  643. Then Peter

  644. remembered the

  645. words the

  646. Lord had

  647. spoken to

  648. him.

  649. Before the

  650. cock crows

  651. today,

  652. you will

  653. disown me

  654. three times.

  655. Jesus

  656. knows Peter

  657. has failed.

  658. Peter

  659. knows that

  660. he has

  661. failed.

  662. But Jesus

  663. looks not

  664. just to

  665. condemn

  666. him,

  667. but to

  668. forgive him.

  669. Yes,

  670. Jesus shows

  671. him his

  672. guilt.

  673. The guilt

  674. is exposed

  675. as he

  676. looks.

  677. But Jesus

  678. longs for

  679. Peter's

  680. restoration.

  681. no words

  682. are spoken,

  683. but in

  684. that look,

  685. Peter,

  686. Peter,

  687. will you

  688. receive

  689. my grace?

  690. You see,

  691. as darkness

  692. falls,

  693. as the

  694. disciples

  695. fail,

  696. grace

  697. flows

  698. from

  699. Jesus.

  700. And it's

  701. no different

  702. for you

  703. and I.

  704. In the

  705. darkest

  706. moment

  707. of our

  708. lives,

  709. in the

  710. midst of

  711. our

  712. greatest

  713. failure,

  714. Jesus

  715. speaks his

  716. word of

  717. grace to

  718. us.

  719. There is

  720. a way

  721. back.

  722. You

  723. can be

  724. forgiven.

  725. Receive

  726. my

  727. grace.

  728. Well,

  729. how can

  730. we experience

  731. this grace

  732. for ourselves?

  733. Well,

  734. there's a

  735. wrong way

  736. and there's

  737. a right

  738. way.

  739. First,

  740. the wrong

  741. way,

  742. remorse,

  743. like

  744. Judas.

  745. I guess

  746. we can

  747. be like

  748. Judas

  749. and respond

  750. with

  751. remorse.

  752. Luke's

  753. gospel

  754. doesn't

  755. actually

  756. tell us

  757. how

  758. Judas

  759. responded,

  760. but when

  761. you read

  762. on in

  763. Luke's

  764. continued

  765. account

  766. into the

  767. book of

  768. Acts,

  769. if you

  770. go to

  771. Acts

    Acts 1 chapter mention

  772. chapter

  773. 1,

  774. we see

  775. what Luke

  776. has to

  777. say about

  778. Judas.

  779. it's

  780. not a

  781. pretty

  782. picture.

  783. Just go

  784. forward.

  785. Luke,

  786. John,

  787. and then

  788. Acts

    Acts 1:17

  789. chapter 1

  790. verse 17.

  791. So this

  792. is after

  793. Jesus has

  794. died,

  795. after the

  796. resurrection.

  797. The

  798. disciples are

  799. together

  800. and they're

  801. thinking about,

  802. well,

  803. who is

  804. going to

  805. replace

  806. Judas?

  807. Well,

  808. what's

  809. happened to

  810. Judas?

  811. Well,

  812. we read

  813. about it

  814. in verse

  815. 8-17.

  816. They say,

  817. he was

  818. one of

  819. our number

  820. and shared

  821. in our

  822. ministry.

  823. With the

  824. payment he

  825. received for

  826. his wickedness,

  827. Judas brought

  828. a field,

  829. there he

  830. fell headlong,

  831. meaning that

  832. he had

  833. hung

  834. himself.

  835. His body

  836. burst open

  837. and all

  838. his

  839. intestines

  840. spilled

  841. out.

  842. Everyone

  843. in Jerusalem

  844. heard about

  845. this,

  846. so they

  847. called that

  848. field in

  849. their own

  850. language

  851. akaldama,

  852. that is

  853. field of

  854. blood.

  855. Go back

  856. to Luke.

  857. Judas

  858. was

  859. remorseful.

  860. Being

  861. remorseful

  862. means we

  863. regret what

  864. we have

  865. done because

  866. of the

  867. consequences

  868. it has on

  869. our life.

  870. Judas

  871. feels bad,

  872. he's full

  873. of self

  874. pity,

  875. he regrets

  876. what he's

  877. done because

  878. of what

  879. people are

  880. now going

  881. to think

  882. of him.

  883. He feels

  884. so bad

  885. that he

  886. can't bear

  887. to think

  888. of what

  889. he will

  890. be known

  891. for the

  892. rest of

  893. his life

  894. that people

  895. are going

  896. to think

  897. of him

  898. as a

  899. betrayer.

  900. He

  901. can't

  902. handle

  903. that.

  904. So he

  905. kills

  906. himself.

  907. You see

  908. remorse

  909. will not

  910. get you

  911. anywhere.

  912. Remorse

  913. doesn't

  914. lead you

  915. to grace.

  916. Feeling

  917. bad about

  918. your life

  919. and feeling

  920. bad about

  921. your failures

  922. will only

  923. ruin you

  924. and destroy

  925. you.

  926. But we

  927. can be

  928. like Peter

  929. who responded

  930. with repentance.

  931. Let's

  932. read chapter

  933. 22

  934. verse 61

  935. together.

  936. The Lord

  937. turned and

  938. looked straight

  939. at Peter

  940. and Peter

  941. remembered the

  942. word the

  943. Lord had

  944. spoken to

  945. him.

  946. Before the

  947. cock crows

  948. today you

  949. will disown

  950. me three

  951. times.

  952. And Peter

  953. went outside

  954. and wept

  955. bitterly.

  956. Peter was

  957. repentant.

  958. Literally he

  959. threw himself

  960. on the ground

  961. and cried.

  962. He sees

  963. his sin.

  964. He sees

  965. his failure

  966. but more

  967. than that he

  968. admits to

  969. it.

  970. These are

  971. tears not

  972. of self

  973. pity but

  974. tears for

  975. Jesus.

  976. He needs

  977. forgiveness.

  978. And that's

  979. the difference

  980. between remorse

  981. and repentance.

  982. Remorse is

  983. to feel

  984. regret

  985. because you

  986. are found

  987. out and

  988. it leaves

  989. you broken

  990. and you

  991. can't live

  992. with yourself.

  993. Repentance

  994. is to own

  995. up to what

  996. you have

  997. done.

  998. It leaves

  999. you

  1000. forgiven.

  1001. as we

  1002. respond to

  1003. God's

  1004. wonderful

  1005. offer of

  1006. grace

  1007. as we

  1008. repent

  1009. we

  1010. experience

  1011. God's

  1012. overflowing

  1013. grace

  1014. in our

  1015. lives.

  1016. You see

  1017. in Jesus

  1018. we find

  1019. the greatest

  1020. friend

  1021. possible.

  1022. the one

  1023. who will

  1024. never

  1025. betray

  1026. you

  1027. the one

  1028. who will

  1029. never

  1030. deny

  1031. you

  1032. the one

  1033. who never

  1034. turns his

  1035. back on

  1036. you

  1037. who is

  1038. faithful

  1039. and loyal

  1040. so loyal

  1041. that he

  1042. has died

  1043. for you.

  1044. For when

  1045. Jesus died

  1046. on the

  1047. cross he

  1048. was treated

  1049. as that

  1050. betrayer

  1051. as that

  1052. denier

  1053. for you

  1054. and for

  1055. me.

  1056. In love

  1057. he walked

  1058. to the

  1059. field of

  1060. blood

  1061. he went

  1062. to the

  1063. cross

  1064. and as

  1065. the true

  1066. and faithful

  1067. friend he

  1068. was willing

  1069. to take

  1070. our place

  1071. to suffer

  1072. my sin.

  1073. Jesus

  1074. absorbs the

  1075. judgment of

  1076. God for

  1077. us so

  1078. that from

  1079. the cross

  1080. flows amazing

  1081. grace.

  1082. And when

  1083. we experience

  1084. that grace

  1085. of forgiveness

  1086. in our life

  1087. it changes

  1088. us radically.

  1089. Let me

  1090. show you

  1091. very quickly

  1092. how it

  1093. changes

  1094. our lives.

  1095. Look at

  1096. verse 50

  1097. as Jesus

  1098. is being

  1099. arrested

  1100. one of

  1101. his disciples

  1102. comes to

  1103. Jesus'

  1104. defense.

  1105. Verse 50

  1106. and one

  1107. of them

  1108. struck the

  1109. servant of

  1110. the high

  1111. priest

  1112. cutting off

  1113. his right

  1114. ear.

  1115. Wow.

  1116. They've

  1117. come to

  1118. arrest

  1119. Jesus

  1120. destroy

  1121. him

  1122. and kill

  1123. him

  1124. but Jesus

  1125. is innocent.

  1126. the servant

  1127. is the

  1128. guilty

  1129. one.

  1130. If

  1131. justice

  1132. is to

  1133. be done

  1134. then the

  1135. servant

  1136. should have

  1137. more than

  1138. his ear

  1139. cut off.

  1140. Verse 51

  1141. but Jesus

  1142. answered

  1143. no more

  1144. of this

  1145. and he

  1146. touched

  1147. the man's

  1148. ear

  1149. and

  1150. healed

  1151. him.

  1152. This is

  1153. an enemy

  1154. of Jesus.

  1155. One who

  1156. was going

  1157. to get

  1158. rid

  1159. of

  1160. Jesus

  1161. and how

  1162. does

  1163. Jesus

  1164. respond

  1165. no more

  1166. and he

  1167. heals

  1168. him.

  1169. You see

  1170. when we

  1171. experience

  1172. God's

  1173. grace

  1174. in our

  1175. life

  1176. we

  1177. don't

  1178. need

  1179. to

  1180. take

  1181. revenge.

  1182. We

  1183. don't

  1184. need

  1185. to

  1186. plan

  1187. up

  1188. and

  1189. conjure

  1190. up

  1191. ideas

  1192. of

  1193. getting

  1194. back

  1195. at

  1196. people.

  1197. Instead

  1198. of

  1199. angry

  1200. words

  1201. we

  1202. can

  1203. now

  1204. speak

  1205. words

  1206. of

  1207. healing.

  1208. Instead

  1209. of

  1210. cutting

  1211. people

  1212. off

  1213. and not

  1214. talking

  1215. to

  1216. them

  1217. we

  1218. can

  1219. now

  1220. welcome

  1221. them

  1222. back.

  1223. Because

  1224. I

  1225. have

  1226. been

  1227. forgiven

  1228. of

  1229. my

  1230. failure

  1231. because

  1232. Jesus

  1233. has

  1234. forgiven

  1235. me

  1236. the

  1237. denier

  1238. and

  1239. the

  1240. betrayer

  1241. well

  1242. I

  1243. can

  1244. now

  1245. forgive

  1246. those

  1247. who

  1248. fail

  1249. me.

  1250. When

  1251. we

  1252. own

  1253. our

  1254. sin

  1255. when

  1256. we

  1257. run

  1258. to

  1259. Jesus

  1260. we

  1261. experience

  1262. God's

  1263. overflowing

  1264. grace.

  1265. in

  1266. Jesus

  1267. we

  1268. find

  1269. the

  1270. perfect

  1271. friend

  1272. the

  1273. friend

  1274. who

  1275. loves

  1276. you

  1277. the

  1278. friend

  1279. who

  1280. forgives

  1281. you

  1282. the

  1283. friend

  1284. who

  1285. died

  1286. for

  1287. you.

  1288. Let's

  1289. pray

  1290. together.

  1291. people

  1292. I

  1293. I

  1294. I
