  1. We're going to start in at verse 32, as we think about Jesus' death.

  2. Two other men, both criminals, were also led out with Jesus to be executed.

  3. When they came to the place called the Skull, they crucified him there along with the criminals,

  4. one on his right, the other on his left.

  5. Jesus said, Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.

  6. And they divided up his clothes by casting lots.

  7. The people stood watching, and the rulers even sneered at him.

  8. They said, He saved others. Let him save himself if he's God's Messiah, the Chosen One.

  9. The soldiers also came up and mocked him.

  10. They offered him wine vinegar and said, If you're the King of the Jews, save yourself.

  11. There was written a notice above him which read, This is the King of the Jews.

  12. One of the criminals who hung there hurled insults at him.

  13. Aren't you the Messiah? Save yourself and us.

  14. But the other criminal rebuked him.

  15. Don't you fear God, he said, since you are under the same sentence?

  16. We are punished justly, for we are getting what our deeds deserve.

  17. But this man has done nothing wrong.

  18. Then he said, Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.

  19. Jesus answered him, Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise.

  20. Let's pray.

  21. Father, these are familiar words.

  22. It's a familiar scene to us.

  23. We've sung about the death of the Lord Jesus.

  24. We've read about it.

  25. And we pray that as we look at it afresh,

  26. that is what it will be.

  27. It will be fresh to us today.

  28. That this event in history would touch our lives today.

  29. And would fill our hearts with joy.

  30. And would send us out motivated afresh.

  31. To live for you.

  32. To serve you.

  33. To enjoy you.

  34. And to look forward with absolute assurance.

  35. That we too will be in paradise.

  36. Father, help us now we ask in Jesus name.

  37. Amen.

  38. Amen.

  39. Amen.

  40. Look at verse 34.

  41. They're the most extraordinary words.

  42. Father, forgive them.

  43. This is why Jesus has come.

  44. This is the climax of Jesus' journey to Jerusalem.

  45. In fact, this is the fulfillment of God's eternal plan.

  46. Just flick back a couple of chapters to chapter 18, verse 31.

  47. As Jesus himself read the scriptures, the Old Testament,

  48. it became clear to him why he had come.

  49. Verse 31.

  50. Jesus took the twelve aside and told them,

  51. We are going up to Jerusalem,

  52. and everything that is written by the prophets about the Son of Man,

  53. that's Jesus,

  54. will be fulfilled.

  55. He will be handed over to the Gentiles.

  56. They will mock him.

  57. They will insult him.

  58. They will spit on him.

  59. They will flog him and kill him.

  60. Back to chapter 23.

  61. And now as Jesus faces into the fulfillment of all that was promised,

  62. as Jesus now faces death,

  63. he prays,

  64. Father, forgive them.

  65. It's an incredible moment because,

  66. well, just picture the scene.

  67. Look at who Jesus is speaking to from the cross.

  68. Jesus is offering forgiveness to those who are killing him and mocking him.

  69. Verse 35.

  70. The people stood watching,

  71. and the rulers even sneered at him.

  72. These were the same people who,

  73. hours earlier,

  74. were vying for his blood.

  75. If you look back at verse 20.

  76. Wanting to release Jesus,

  77. Pilate appealed to them again.

  78. But they kept shouting,

  79. Crucify him!

  80. Crucify him!

  81. But Jesus not only offers forgiveness to this bloodthirsty crowd.

  82. Look at verse 36.

  83. The soldiers also came up and mocked him.

  84. These were the same soldiers who just,

  85. hours before,

  86. had punched him,

  87. beaten him,

  88. and nailed him to the cross.

  89. Father,

  90. forgive them.

  91. Now, I don't know about you,

  92. but if I were Jesus,

  93. I would want revenge.

  94. I'd be asking the Father

  95. to let the same things happen to them.

  96. After all, it's what they deserve.

  97. But not Jesus.

  98. He's not bitter.

  99. He's not angry.

  100. Peter, one of the disciples,

  101. the one who had denied him,

  102. witnessed these events,

  103. and he later wrote about them

  104. and recorded them in his book,

  105. First Peter.

  106. This is what he says.

  107. When they hurled their insults,

  108. he did not retaliate.

  109. When he suffered,

  110. he made no threats.

  111. Instead, he entrusted himself to him

  112. who judges justly.

  113. But what's even more amazing,

  114. Jesus is speaking these words to us.

  115. Father, forgive them.

  116. Forgive me.

  117. Forgive you.

  118. You see,

  119. we all need forgiveness.

  120. We've all turned against God,

  121. blamed God,

  122. ignored God.

  123. Like the disciples,

  124. as we saw,

  125. we betray him.

  126. We deny him.

  127. In fact,

  128. God takes our behavior

  129. towards one another

  130. personally.

  131. God has made us.

  132. He owns us.

  133. We belong to him.

  134. And he loves us.

  135. So every time

  136. I hurt someone

  137. with my words

  138. or harm someone

  139. with my actions,

  140. it's not just

  141. the other person

  142. who is offended.

  143. God takes personal offense

  144. because we belong to him.

  145. So every time

  146. we sin against

  147. another person,

  148. we are acting

  149. in defiance

  150. against God.

  151. We are sinning

  152. against him.

  153. So we just

  154. don't need forgiveness

  155. from others.

  156. We all need to be

  157. forgiven by the Father.

  158. God takes

  159. to be forgiven.

  160. But how can I be forgiven?

  161. How can you be forgiven

  162. of all those

  163. private sins,

  164. the ones we keep

  165. locked up

  166. that no one knows about?

  167. Or even the shameful ones

  168. that, well,

  169. people have seen

  170. and do know?

  171. Well, first,

  172. forgiveness

  173. is costly.

  174. Look again

  175. where Jesus is

  176. when he offers

  177. forgiveness.

  178. Verse 33.

  179. When they came

  180. to the place

  181. called the skull,

  182. they crucified

  183. him there

  184. along with

  185. the criminals,

  186. one on his right,

  187. the other

  188. on his left.

  189. And Jesus said,

  190. Father,

  191. forgive them

  192. for they do not

  193. know what they are doing.

  194. He's offering,

  195. for Jesus is not

  196. offering forgiveness

  197. from the comfort

  198. of a seat

  199. by the pool.

  200. Jesus is hanging

  201. from a cross.

  202. He's being executed.

  203. He is being tortured

  204. to death.

  205. Crucifixion was designed

  206. by the Romans

  207. to make people suffer.

  208. It could take days

  209. for people to die.

  210. You died slowly

  211. in agony

  212. and in pain.

  213. Listen to how

  214. one doctor

  215. describes

  216. what would have

  217. happened

  218. as someone

  219. was crucified.

  220. As the arms

  221. fatigue,

  222. great waves

  223. of cramps

  224. sweep over

  225. the muscles,

  226. knotting them

  227. in deep,

  228. relentless,

  229. throbbing pain.

  230. Air can be

  231. drawn into the lungs

  232. but it can't

  233. be exhaled.

  234. Jesus fights

  235. to raise himself

  236. in order to get

  237. one short breath.

  238. Hours of limitless pain,

  239. cycles of twisting,

  240. joint-rending cramps,

  241. intermittent partial

  242. asphyxiation,

  243. searing pain

  244. as flesh is torn

  245. from his lacerated back

  246. as he moves up and down

  247. against the timber.

  248. The heart is now

  249. struggling to pump

  250. heavy, thick,

  251. sluggish blood

  252. into the tissues.

  253. The lungs are making

  254. a frantic effort

  255. to grasp,

  256. to gasp in

  257. small gulps

  258. of air.

  259. You see,

  260. the point is,

  261. forgiveness

  262. is not easy,

  263. it's costly.

  264. Tim Keller

  265. in his book

  266. The Reason for God

  267. illustrates

  268. the point

  269. very well.

  270. let me read

  271. to you.

  272. Imagine

  273. that someone

  274. borrows your car

  275. and as he

  276. backs it out

  277. of the driveway

  278. he strikes a gate,

  279. knocking it down

  280. along with

  281. part of a wall.

  282. Your property

  283. insurance

  284. doesn't cover

  285. the gate

  286. and garden wall.

  287. What can you do?

  288. There are essentially

  289. two options.

  290. the first

  291. is to demand

  292. that he pay

  293. for the damages.

  294. The second

  295. is to refuse

  296. to let him

  297. pay anything.

  298. There also

  299. may be

  300. middle-of-the-road

  301. solutions

  302. in which you

  303. both share

  304. the payment.

  305. Notice

  306. that in

  307. every option

  308. the cost

  309. of the damage

  310. must be borne

  311. by someone.

  312. Either you

  313. or he

  314. absorbs

  315. the cost

  316. for the deed.

  317. but the debt

  318. does not

  319. somehow

  320. vanish

  321. into thin air.

  322. Forgiveness

  323. in this

  324. illustration

  325. means

  326. bearing

  327. the cost

  328. for his

  329. misdeed

  330. yourself.

  331. So let's

  332. just think

  333. about that

  334. for a moment.

  335. If that's

  336. your car

  337. how would

  338. you respond

  339. if someone

  340. is taking

  341. your car

  342. and crushed

  343. it?

  344. Well

  345. you can either

  346. take revenge

  347. that means

  348. you make

  349. them pay

  350. for what

  351. they did

  352. and they

  353. have to

  354. cover all

  355. the costs

  356. or you

  357. can forgive.

  358. You see

  359. true forgiveness

  360. means that

  361. you refuse

  362. to make

  363. them pay

  364. and you

  365. bear the

  366. cost

  367. yourself.

  368. If it's

  369. revenge

  370. well they

  371. pay

  372. and they

  373. suffer.

  374. If it's

  375. forgiveness

  376. forgiveness

  377. you pay

  378. and you

  379. suffer.

  380. You see

  381. forgiveness

  382. is never

  383. easy

  384. it's

  385. costly.

  386. If someone

  387. hurts you

  388. through the

  389. words they

  390. say

  391. you can

  392. take revenge

  393. and say

  394. hurtful words

  395. back to

  396. them.

  397. You can

  398. make them

  399. suffer

  400. or

  401. you can

  402. forgive

  403. and refuse

  404. to say

  405. hurtful words

  406. back.

  407. You have

  408. to absorb

  409. the hurt.

  410. You have

  411. to bear

  412. the suffering

  413. yourself.

  414. You see

  415. forgiveness

  416. is never

  417. easy

  418. it's

  419. costly

  420. and that's

  421. what's

  422. happening

  423. on the

  424. cross.

  425. Jesus

  426. is taking

  427. my sin

  428. your sin

  429. Jesus

  430. pays

  431. Jesus

  432. suffers

  433. rather

  434. than take

  435. revenge

  436. rather

  437. than pay

  438. back

  439. Jesus

  440. pays

  441. the debt

  442. Jesus

  443. offers

  444. forgiveness.

  445. So

  446. first

  447. forgiveness

  448. is always

  449. costly.

  450. Second

  451. forgiveness

  452. means

  453. death.

  454. If you

  455. or I

  456. are to

  457. experience

  458. forgiveness

  459. then Jesus

  460. must die

  461. instead

  462. of us.

  463. Look at

  464. what the

  465. people are

  466. saying to

  467. Jesus

  468. on the

  469. cross.

  470. Verse

  471. 35

  472. the people

  473. stood

  474. watching

  475. and the

  476. rulers

  477. even

  478. sneered

  479. at him.

  480. They

  481. said

  482. he

  483. saved

  484. others

  485. let him

  486. save

  487. himself

  488. if he

  489. is

  490. God's

  491. Messiah

  492. the

  493. chosen

  494. one.

  495. The

  496. soldiers

  497. also

  498. came up

  499. and mocked

  500. him.

  501. They

  502. offered

  503. him

  504. wine

  505. vinegar

  506. which

  507. was

  508. to

  509. kind

  510. of

  511. kill

  512. the

  513. pain

  514. and

  515. said

  516. well

  517. if

  518. you

  519. are

  520. the

  521. king

  522. of

  523. the

  524. Jews

  525. save

  526. yourself.

  527. well

  528. Jesus

  529. has a

  530. choice

  531. to

  532. make.

  533. Does

  534. he

  535. save

  536. himself

  537. or

  538. does

  539. he

  540. save

  541. you?

  542. He

  543. can't

  544. save

  545. both.

  546. He

  547. must

  548. choose.

  549. If

  550. Jesus

  551. chooses

  552. to

  553. save

  554. himself

  555. then

  556. you

  557. die.

  558. If

  559. Jesus

  560. chooses

  561. to

  562. save

  563. you

  564. then

  565. he

  566. will

  567. die.

  568. the

  569. crowds

  570. the

  571. rulers

  572. the

  573. soldiers

  574. who

  575. are

  576. all

  577. watching

  578. and

  579. shouting

  580. at

  581. Jesus

  582. don't

  583. realize

  584. that

  585. if

  586. Jesus

  587. does

  588. save

  589. himself

  590. they

  591. could

  592. never

  593. be

  594. forgiven.

  595. So

  596. Jesus

  597. chose

  598. to

  599. die

  600. for

  601. them.

  602. He

  603. chose

  604. to

  605. die

  606. for

  607. me

  608. and

  609. he

  610. chose

  611. to

  612. die

  613. for

  614. you.

  615. And

  616. we

  617. need

  618. to

  619. understand

  620. this

  621. no

  622. matter

  623. how

  624. familiar

  625. it

  626. may

  627. be

  628. that

  629. when

  630. Jesus

  631. was

  632. dying

  633. on

  634. the

  635. cross

  636. he

  637. was

  638. taking

  639. the

  640. sin

  641. of

  642. all

  643. these

  644. crowds

  645. all

  646. these

  647. soldiers

  648. all

  649. the

  650. insults

  651. and

  652. all

  653. the

  654. things

  655. that

  656. we

  657. have

  658. ever

  659. done

  660. he

  661. chose

  662. to

  663. die

  664. for

  665. them

  666. he

  667. suffered

  668. for

  669. you

  670. and

  671. for

  672. me

  673. but

  674. the

  675. real

  676. suffering

  677. isn't

  678. the

  679. physical

  680. suffering

  681. it

  682. wasn't

  683. just

  684. the

  685. beating

  686. and

  687. the

  688. nails

  689. and

  690. the

  691. crown

  692. of

  693. thorns

  694. it

  695. was

  696. the

  697. spiritual

  698. suffering

  699. that

  700. he

  701. was

  702. enduring

  703. he

  704. had

  705. to

  706. drink

  707. the

  708. cup

  709. just

  710. the

  711. night

  712. before

  713. as

  714. he

  715. was

  716. in

  717. the

  718. garden

  719. sweating

  720. drops

  721. of

  722. blood

  723. he

  724. cries

  725. out

  726. to

  727. the

  728. father

  729. take

  730. this

  731. cup

  732. from

  733. me

  734. the

  735. cup

  736. being

  737. the

  738. symbol

  739. of

  740. God's

  741. wrath

  742. and

  743. here

  744. and

  745. now

  746. on

  747. the

  748. cross

  749. he

  750. drinks

  751. that

  752. cup

  753. to

  754. its

  755. very

  756. last

  757. dregs

  758. he

  759. suffers

  760. hell

  761. for

  762. you

  763. and

  764. for

  765. me

  766. isn't

  767. that

  768. what

  769. Jesus

  770. was

  771. doing

  772. for

  773. Barabbas

  774. have a

  775. look

  776. back

  777. at

  778. verse

  779. 18

  780. you

  781. know

  782. Barabbas

  783. as

  784. Jesus

  785. is

  786. put

  787. before

  788. the

  789. crowd

  790. verse

  791. 18

  792. the

  793. whole

  794. crowd

  795. shouted

  796. away

  797. with

  798. this

  799. man

  800. release

  801. Barabbas

  802. to

  803. us

  804. Barabbas

  805. had been

  806. thrown

  807. into

  808. prison

  809. for

  810. an

  811. insurrection

  812. in the

  813. city

  814. and

  815. for

  816. murder

  817. wanting

  818. to

  819. release

  820. Jesus

  821. Pilate

  822. appealed

  823. to them

  824. again

  825. but

  826. they

  827. kept

  828. shouting

  829. crucify

  830. him

  831. crucify

  832. him

  833. for

  834. the

  835. third

  836. time

  837. he

  838. spoke

  839. to

  840. them

  841. why

  842. what

  843. crime

  844. has

  845. this

  846. man

  847. committed

  848. I

  849. have

  850. found

  851. in

  852. him

  853. no

  854. grounds

  855. for

  856. the

  857. death

  858. penalty

  859. therefore

  860. I

  861. will

  862. have

  863. him

  864. punished

  865. and

  866. then

  867. release

  868. him

  869. but

  870. with

  871. loud

  872. shouts

  873. they

  874. intensely

  875. demanded

  876. that

  877. he

  878. be

  879. crucified

  880. and

  881. their

  882. shouts

  883. prevailed

  884. so

  885. Pilate

  886. decided

  887. to grant

  888. their

  889. demand

  890. he

  891. released

  892. the man

  893. who had

  894. been thrown

  895. into prison

  896. for insurrection

  897. and murder

  898. the one

  899. they asked

  900. for

  901. and surrendered

  902. Jesus

  903. to their

  904. will

  905. that's where we

  906. stand

  907. Jesus has

  908. paid the price

  909. for all our

  910. hurts

  911. all our

  912. anger

  913. our selfish

  914. choices

  915. the revenge

  916. that we have

  917. set out on

  918. others

  919. the lies

  920. the greed

  921. Jesus

  922. chose

  923. to save

  924. us

  925. by dying

  926. for us

  927. taking this

  928. suffering

  929. taking that

  930. place

  931. exchanging

  932. places

  933. for us

  934. so that

  935. we can

  936. be

  937. forgiven

  938. so what

  939. are we

  940. going to

  941. do with

  942. this

  943. offer

  944. of

  945. forgiveness

  946. how do

  947. we

  948. experience

  949. this

  950. forgiveness

  951. daily

  952. in our

  953. lives

  954. well let's

  955. read verse

  956. 32

  957. these two

  958. other men

  959. both

  960. criminals

  961. were also

  962. led out

  963. with him

  964. to be

  965. executed

  966. when they

  967. came to

  968. the place

  969. called the

  970. skull

  971. they crucified

  972. him there

  973. along with

  974. the criminals

  975. one on his

  976. right

  977. and the

  978. other on his

  979. left

  980. and as

  981. Jesus dies

  982. they engage

  983. in a

  984. conversation

  985. two criminals

  986. two responses

  987. look at how

  988. the first criminal

  989. responds to

  990. Jesus

  991. verse 39

  992. one of the

  993. criminals who

  994. hung their

  995. hurled insults

  996. at him

  997. aren't you

  998. the messiah

  999. save yourself

  1000. and us

  1001. this guy

  1002. is dying

  1003. he's about

  1004. to face

  1005. God's

  1006. judgment

  1007. but all he

  1008. can do

  1009. is mock

  1010. Jesus

  1011. and insult

  1012. Jesus

  1013. if you're

  1014. the Christ

  1015. if you're

  1016. God's

  1017. saving

  1018. king

  1019. then save

  1020. yourself

  1021. and us

  1022. you see

  1023. for the

  1024. criminal

  1025. the only

  1026. value

  1027. Jesus

  1028. has

  1029. is that

  1030. he might

  1031. be able

  1032. to save

  1033. him

  1034. from this

  1035. torturous

  1036. death

  1037. get us

  1038. out of

  1039. here

  1040. Jesus

  1041. well of

  1042. course

  1043. Jesus

  1044. could

  1045. save

  1046. him

  1047. he could

  1048. send

  1049. an army

  1050. of angels

  1051. but

  1052. Jesus

  1053. wants him

  1054. to see

  1055. that he

  1056. has come

  1057. to save

  1058. him

  1059. from

  1060. something

  1061. far

  1062. more

  1063. serious

  1064. God's

  1065. wrath

  1066. it's

  1067. not that

  1068. Jesus

  1069. doesn't

  1070. care

  1071. about

  1072. his

  1073. physical

  1074. pain

  1075. but

  1076. Jesus

  1077. wants

  1078. him

  1079. to know

  1080. eternal

  1081. life

  1082. you see

  1083. we can

  1084. be like

  1085. the first

  1086. criminal

  1087. sometimes

  1088. we treat

  1089. Jesus

  1090. like this

  1091. that the

  1092. only value

  1093. that Jesus

  1094. has is to

  1095. help us

  1096. when we're

  1097. in trouble

  1098. to give us

  1099. something that

  1100. we want

  1101. help me get

  1102. that job

  1103. Jesus

  1104. take away

  1105. this suffering

  1106. that I'm going

  1107. through

  1108. Jesus

  1109. help me

  1110. win my

  1111. match

  1112. Jesus

  1113. help me

  1114. find a

  1115. partner

  1116. Jesus

  1117. but that's

  1118. not how

  1119. Jesus

  1120. works

  1121. Jesus

  1122. is not

  1123. a magic

  1124. genie

  1125. who grants

  1126. everything

  1127. we wish

  1128. for

  1129. Jesus

  1130. is not

  1131. there to

  1132. meet our

  1133. physical

  1134. and material

  1135. desires

  1136. on our

  1137. demand

  1138. he comes

  1139. to give us

  1140. something

  1141. greater

  1142. forgiveness

  1143. of sins

  1144. and life

  1145. with him

  1146. how do

  1147. you treat

  1148. Jesus

  1149. look at

  1150. the response

  1151. of the

  1152. second

  1153. criminal

  1154. verse 40

  1155. the other

  1156. criminal

  1157. rebuked him

  1158. don't you

  1159. fear

  1160. God

  1161. he said

  1162. since you

  1163. are under

  1164. the same

  1165. sentence

  1166. we are

  1167. punished

  1168. justly

  1169. for we

  1170. are getting

  1171. what our

  1172. deeds

  1173. deserve

  1174. but this

  1175. man

  1176. has done

  1177. nothing

  1178. wrong

  1179. the criminal

  1180. knows he

  1181. is about

  1182. to die

  1183. but what's

  1184. more troubling

  1185. is he

  1186. knows he

  1187. will face

  1188. God

  1189. that's why

  1190. he shouts

  1191. out

  1192. don't you

  1193. fear

  1194. God

  1195. dying

  1196. on the

  1197. cross

  1198. will mean

  1199. separation

  1200. from his

  1201. friends

  1202. and from

  1203. his family

  1204. but facing

  1205. God

  1206. without

  1207. forgiveness

  1208. would be

  1209. something

  1210. much

  1211. much

  1212. worse

  1213. separation

  1214. from God

  1215. separation

  1216. from his

  1217. gifts

  1218. suffering

  1219. for all

  1220. eternity

  1221. he knows

  1222. he is

  1223. facing

  1224. hell

  1225. and knowing

  1226. his situation

  1227. he cries

  1228. out to

  1229. Jesus

  1230. verse 42

  1231. and he

  1232. said

  1233. Jesus

  1234. remember

  1235. me

  1236. when you

  1237. come into

  1238. your kingdom

  1239. him

  1240. he knows

  1241. he knows

  1242. Jesus

  1243. is innocent

  1244. and he

  1245. knows

  1246. he's

  1247. guilty

  1248. he's

  1249. heard

  1250. Jesus

  1251. offer

  1252. a

  1253. forgiveness

  1254. from the

  1255. cross

  1256. father

  1257. forgive

  1258. them

  1259. and he

  1260. has come

  1261. to see

  1262. that he

  1263. needs to

  1264. be forgiven

  1265. too

  1266. and he

  1267. knows that

  1268. Jesus

  1269. is the

  1270. only one

  1271. who can

  1272. deal

  1273. with his

  1274. sin

  1275. and he

  1276. comes

  1277. with simple

  1278. words

  1279. Jesus

  1280. remember

  1281. me

  1282. and

  1283. Jesus

  1284. response

  1285. is quite

  1286. incredible

  1287. verse 43

  1288. Jesus

  1289. answered

  1290. him

  1291. truly

  1292. I

  1293. tell

  1294. you

  1295. today

  1296. you

  1297. will be

  1298. with

  1299. me

  1300. in

  1301. paradise

  1302. to

  1303. be

  1304. in

  1305. paradise

  1306. is

  1307. well

  1308. it's

  1309. to be

  1310. in

  1311. the

  1312. new

  1313. creation

  1314. God's

  1315. eternal

  1316. kingdom

  1317. it's

  1318. this

  1319. world

  1320. that we

  1321. live

  1322. in

  1323. made

  1324. new

  1325. this

  1326. world

  1327. made

  1328. perfect

  1329. a world

  1330. without

  1331. suffering

  1332. or pain

  1333. or death

  1334. no

  1335. funerals

  1336. no

  1337. hospitals

  1338. a world

  1339. without

  1340. evil

  1341. and sin

  1342. a world

  1343. full of

  1344. joy

  1345. and peace

  1346. and happiness

  1347. forever

  1348. and forever

  1349. and that

  1350. day

  1351. that

  1352. criminal

  1353. would be

  1354. with

  1355. Jesus

  1356. and

  1357. everyone

  1358. who is

  1359. forgiven

  1360. by the

  1361. father

  1362. will be

  1363. with

  1364. Jesus

  1365. in

  1366. paradise

  1367. that is

  1368. our

  1369. future

  1370. that is

  1371. our

  1372. destiny

  1373. with

  1374. Jesus

  1375. we will

  1376. see him

  1377. we will

  1378. be with

  1379. him

  1380. and we

  1381. will

  1382. rule

  1383. with

  1384. him

  1385. in the

  1386. new

  1387. heavens

  1388. and the

  1389. new

  1390. earth

  1391. into

  1392. John

  1393. are

  1394. running

  1395. tell you

  1396. about

  1397. and

  1398. i know

  1399. the

  1400. ones

  1401. i

  1402. don't

  1403. want

  1404. you

  1405. to

  1406. know

  1407. come before him

  1408. listen to his words

  1409. father

  1410. forgive them

  1411. listen to the promise

  1412. with me

  1413. in paradise

1414. know the joy of forgiveness

  1415. live as free people

  1416. know the joy

  1417. know

  1418. sins forgiven

  1419. let's pray

  1420. it's a familiar scene

  1421. it's a stunning scene

  1422. to see Jesus

  1423. crucified

  1424. executed

  1425. tortured

1426. to listen and hear his words

  1427. father forgive them

  1428. father we confess

1429. that we have denied you

  1430. betrayed you

  1431. we have treated you

1432. like as we talked about

  1433. a magic genie

  1434. demanding our wants

  1435. ignoring you

  1436. when we have nothing

  1437. to ask for

  1438. father forgive

  1439. forgive the times

1440. forgive the times where we

  1441. have spoken

  1442. out of turn

  1443. where we have

  1444. taken revenge

  1445. with our words

  1446. on other people

1447. where we have held them

  1448. at distance

  1449. refusing to forgive

1450. and wanting them to hurt

  1451. and pay

  1452. father forgive us

  1453. father forgive us

  1454. and may we know

  1455. that fresh

  1456. beginning

  1457. the slate

  1458. wiped

  1459. clean

1460. as far as the east

  1461. is from the west

  1462. you remove our sins

  1463. from us

  1464. thank you that because

  1465. we are forgiven

  1466. we can look forward

  1467. to paradise

  1468. itself

  1469. with Jesus

  1470. forever

  1471. and forever

  1472. thank you

  1473. in Jesus name

  1474. amen

1475. we are going to sing

1476. we are going to sing

  1477. about the cross

  1478. but we want to

  1479. celebrate

  1480. the cross

  1481. to see

  1482. to listen

  1483. and to know

  1484. that we can be

  1485. forgiven

  1486. let's

  1487. stand as we sing
