  1. Paul writes,

  2. Since then you have been raised with Christ.

  3. Set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.

  4. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.

  5. For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God.

  6. When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory.

  7. Now put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature.

  8. Sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires, and greed, which is idolatry.

  9. Because of these, the wrath of God is coming.

  10. You used to walk in these ways in the life you once lived.

  11. But now you must also rid yourselves of all such things as these.

  12. Anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips.

  13. Verse 9,

  14. And do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices,

  15. and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge, in the image of its creator.

  16. Let's pray.

  17. Father, we thank you for your word, your word that we know is true.

  18. We confess, Lord, that we have failed at least once in most of these sins that Paul just listed.

  19. And yet we acknowledge how gracious you've been towards us.

  20. That you have sent Christ.

  21. That you have saved us through His work.

  22. That you have imputed His righteousness to us.

  23. And those of us who call you Lord and Savior have a life that is hidden in Christ.

  24. A life which is Christ.

  25. We thank you for these truths.

  26. We ask that you would apply them to our lives and sow this truth deep in our hearts today.

  27. In Jesus' name we pray.

  28. Amen.

  29. Amen.

  30. Well, why do we sin?

  31. And how do we stop?

  32. That's our question here this morning.

  33. Why do we sin?

  34. And how do we stop?

  35. I mean, we just read God's word in which Paul essentially said,

  36. Stop sinning.

  37. He's speaking to a church in Colossae in the first century.

  38. He says, Put your sins to death.

  39. Stop sinning.

  40. And I don't think any of us would really disagree with this command.

  41. I don't think any of us really want to keep on sinning.

  42. But the reality is that we do.

  43. And this was true for the church in Colossae.

  44. And it's true for us today.

  45. And I have to say that globally, we as Christians, to a large degree,

  46. have failed in our well-meant efforts to equip each other to wage war against sin.

  47. And here's what I mean by that.

  48. Typically, today, as well as throughout history,

  49. the approach to getting people to do what is right is telling them in a very loud, angry, threatening,

  50. maybe pulpit-pounding voice,

  51. Don't do what is wrong.

  52. Stop sinning.

  53. We've operated under the assumption that if we portray the terrible consequences of sin

  54. in sufficiently graphic and revolting terms,

  55. then maybe we'll succeed in motivating the human heart to turn from it.

  56. Now, I'm not suggesting that sin doesn't have terrible and devastating consequences.

  57. It does.

  58. Nor am I suggesting that we cease telling people to stop sinning

  59. or that we turn down the urgency with which we warn them

  60. that has to be a part of our understanding of our lives in Christ.

  61. But if all we bring to bear against the incredibly powerful allure of self-indulgence

  62. is a just-say-no campaign,

  63. then we don't stand much of a chance against sin.

  64. And so I think we need to pause and ask,

  65. why do we sin?

  66. And I would argue,

  67. we enjoy it.

  68. At least in the moment.

  69. In the moment,

  70. sin usually feels good.

  71. In the moment.

  72. What did Eve see in the garden?

  73. She saw that the fruit was good.

  74. It looked good.

  75. It was desirable.

  76. It was pleasing.

  77. Again, I would argue that sin appears good.

  78. It feels good in the moment.

  79. And really, nobody would do it otherwise.

  80. I doubt you have had to sin out of duty.

  81. If you know what I mean.

  82. I doubt you've had to wake up in the morning and look at your list of to-do and go,

  83. oh, I better add some sin just in case I forget to sin.

  84. It's probably not something you have to focus on.

  85. It just happens.

  86. Again, I would say it's because it feels good.

  87. And the Bible consistently holds the same view of why we do what we do,

  88. and that is that we typically only do what we want to do.

  89. We only do what we desire.

  90. I'm not saying we only do what we like or wish or prefer.

  91. There's a difference because you can make someone do something under coercion, right?

  92. So if someone holds you at a knife point and demands your money,

  93. your desire to live will outweigh your desire for money.

  94. And so even though you don't want to give them your money,

  95. you will out of your desire to stay alive.

  96. Everything we do flows from our hearts.

  97. And the bottom line is this.

  98. When faced with temptation,

  99. the immediate gratification of sin will almost always triumph over the fear of its long-term consequences.

  100. If we're really honest with ourselves,

  101. the immediate gratification of sin will almost always triumph over our fear of its long-term consequences.

  102. And I would propose that the best way to defeat the power of sin's promise of pleasure

  103. is by faith in God's promises of superior pleasures.

  104. In other words, the only way to fight the pleasures of sin

  105. is to be so reoriented to the gospel that our desires rise above our sinful desires of this world.

  106. And that's Paul's main point in the passage today.

  107. His main idea is that our pleasure in our promised future with God

  108. is the power for our purity in this life.

  109. And I'll say it's one of the powers for our purity in this life.

  110. That is our pleasure in the promised future,

  111. our promised future with God,

  112. is one of the powers for our purity in this life.

  113. And this is Paul's goal as stated in verses 5-10.

  114. He says he wants to see us Christians put to death, therefore,

  115. whatever belongs to our earthly nature.

  116. And then he lists out some sins.

  117. And in verse 6 he says,

  118. because of these sins, the wrath of God is coming.

  119. Verse 7, you used to walk in these ways.

  120. And he's speaking to Christians.

  121. You used to walk in these ways in the life you once lived.

  122. But now you must rid yourself of all such things.

  123. Anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips.

  124. Verse 9, do not lie to each other,

  125. since you've taken off your old self with its practices.

  126. And put on the new self,

  127. which is being renewed in the knowledge and the image of its creator.

  128. In a nutshell, Paul wants to see purity in the church in Colossae.

  129. He wants to see purity in all of Christ's churches.

  130. That's the goal, is to have churches that are pure.

  131. And I think most of us would agree

  132. that we don't want these lists of sins to define who we are.

  133. Again, I doubt we wake up in the morning and go,

  134. oh, I can't wait to just be an angry, vengeful, malicious person today.

  135. I doubt as Christians we wake up in the morning and go,

  136. I can't wait to go slander somebody.

  137. We want to be pure.

  138. We want to be rid of our sin nature.

  139. But how?

  140. How do we truly wage war against sin?

  141. Paul proposes that one of the ways in which we do this

  142. is we find ourselves looking forward to our promised future with God.

  143. And this is what he does in verses 1-4.

  144. He gives us the foundations, the weapons, if you will, to wage this war.

  145. In verse 1 he says,

  146. Since you have been raised with Christ,

  147. set your hearts on things above where Christ is seated at the right hand of God.

  148. Some translations might say,

  149. Seek the things above.

  150. It's find your desires in Christ, in God, in our future with Him.

  151. Verse 2,

  152. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.

  153. It's interesting to note, even Paul recognizes,

  154. our minds will typically follow our hearts.

  155. Set your hearts on things above,

  156. and then think and dwell upon heaven.

  157. Set your minds on things above.

  158. Verse 3,

  159. Recognize there is more than our life here on earth.

  160. Your life is now hidden with Christ in God.

  161. The life we are living is but a shadow of our true life,

  162. which is hidden in God,

  163. which in verse 4 he says,

  164. is Christ.

  165. When Christ who is our life appears,

  166. then we also will appear with Him in glory.

  167. In short,

  168. our pleasure in our promised future with God

  169. is the power for our purity in this life.

  170. Now there's an old saying that says,

  171. you can be so heavenly minded

  172. that you're no earthly good.

  173. Have you heard that saying?

  174. You can be so heavenly minded

  175. that you are no earthly good.

  176. And let me tell you,

  177. I couldn't disagree more with that saying.

  178. I absolutely disagree with that.

  179. In fact,

  180. I would argue that most Christians

  181. are nowhere near as heavenly minded

  182. as we should be.

  183. Just think to yourself for a moment,

  184. when is the last time

  185. I seriously sat down

  186. and considered my future life,

  187. which is hidden in Christ,

  188. with God,

  189. eternal life in paradise?

  190. What does Jesus say

  191. to one of the thieves next to Him on the cross?

  192. Today you will be with me in paradise.

  193. If we're honest with ourselves,

  194. we rarely sit down

  195. and set our hearts

  196. and our minds on things above.

  197. I would guess that none of us

  198. are truly at risk

  199. of being so heavenly minded

  200. we are no earthly good.

  201. C.S. Lewis once said,

  202. in history you will find

  203. that the Christians

  204. who did the most

  205. for this present world

  206. were those who thought the most

  207. about the world to come.

  208. That they were so fixed

  209. on where life was truly headed.

  210. The Pilgrim's Progress

  211. gives a great snapshot of this in a story.

  212. It's a reason

  213. it's a best selling book still.

  214. Again, in history you'll find

  215. the Christians who did the most

  216. for this present world

  217. were those who thought

  218. the most about the world to come.

  219. And so I would argue

  220. it is utterly impossible

  221. to be so heavenly minded

  222. that we are no earthly good.

  223. Because the Bible teaches

  224. and Paul just taught right here

  225. that in order to be

  226. any sort of earthly good

  227. we must become

  228. absolutely heavenly minded.

  229. we must set our hearts

  230. and our minds

  231. on things above

  232. where Christ

  233. who is our life

  234. has our life

  235. hidden with God.

  236. The more heavenly minded

  237. we are

  238. the more earthly good

  239. we will be.

  240. That is,

  241. the more we delight in God

  242. the more we delight

  243. in where He dwells

  244. and the place

  245. that He is preparing for us

  246. and the eternal life

  247. that we are promised

  248. that we will live

  249. in Christ

  250. then the more we are

  251. stirred by these realities

  252. the more our affections

  253. are caught up

  254. in the world to come

  255. the more our thoughts

  256. are captivated by heaven

  257. and then the more

  258. we will naturally do

  259. what Paul commands us to

  260. in verses 5-10

  261. the more we will

  262. naturally begin

  263. to put to death

  264. the things of this world

  265. namely our earthly natures.

  266. And so today

  267. I just want to spend

  268. a little bit of time

  269. looking up

  270. and looking forward

  271. if we could.

  272. And I am just going to go through

  273. a few attributes of God

  274. and this is how I have learned

  275. to study heaven

  276. is to look at

  277. an attribute of God

  278. in a way that

  279. He has explained Himself

  280. to us

  281. and then recognize

  282. that when we say heaven

  283. we mean

  284. the world to come

  285. or the new earth

  286. and that in that

  287. world to come

  288. God will dwell with us

  289. and because of

  290. who He is

  291. we can expect

  292. heaven to be

  293. certain things.

  294. We are just going to look

  295. at three of them today

  296. and then Wednesday night

  297. we will look at a few more

  298. because I firmly believe

  299. that the best way to do

  300. what Paul has said to do

  301. in verses 5-10

  302. which is

  303. what all of us want to do

  304. is to do what he says

  305. in verses 1-4

  306. to set our hearts

  307. and our minds

  308. on things above.

  309. So first

  310. I want us to see

  311. that God is holy

  312. God is holy

  313. so heaven will be

  314. without sin

  315. God is holy

  316. so heaven will be

  317. without sin

  318. and we have seen

  319. a few times already

  320. in the letter of Colossians

  321. that God is holy

  322. Colossians 1-2

  323. Paul is writing

  324. to God's holy people

  325. God's holy people

  326. are holy

  327. because they belong to Him

  328. we have been

  329. made holy

  330. in Christ

  331. verse 12

  332. of Colossians 1

  333. he has qualified us

  334. that is His holy people

  335. to share in the inheritance

  336. of His holy people

  337. in the kingdom of light

  338. Colossians 1-22

  339. we have been

  340. reconciled

  341. by Christ's

  342. physical body

  343. which we will celebrate

  344. in the Lord's Supper

  345. later on today

  346. through death

  347. so that we might be

  348. presented

  349. holy

  350. in God's sight

  351. God is a

  352. holy God

  353. we are His

  354. holy people

  355. and therefore to dwell

  356. in His presence

  357. will be to live

  358. life in a world

  359. that is absolutely

  360. without sin

  361. I don't know if you've ever

  362. just thought about that

  363. for any amount of time

  364. it can be life changing

  365. if you just think

  366. what is life on planet Earth

  367. like without sin

  368. I think we would all agree

  369. there's good stuff

  370. on planet Earth

  371. there's beauty

  372. all around us

  373. my goodness

  374. Ireland

  375. it's gorgeous

  376. I thought San Diego

  377. was pretty

  378. I came to Ireland

  379. I dread going back

  380. to Southern California

  381. how weird is that

  382. it's gorgeous

  383. there's beauty

  384. relationships

  385. are beautiful

  386. food tastes good

  387. there's so many

  388. good things here

  389. in this life

  390. on this Earth

  391. yet

  392. there's sin

  393. all around us

  394. I made a special effort

  395. this week

  396. to watch the news

  397. every day

  398. and read more news

  399. than I would usually read

  400. and it's just depressing

  401. oh it's awful

  402. two shootings

  403. in America

  404. this week

  405. 23 people killed

  406. this week

  407. because of anger

  408. and rage

  409. and malice

  410. lives that have been

  411. turned upside down

  412. because of sin

  413. the immorality

  414. around us

  415. the greed

  416. can you imagine

  417. doing business

  418. in a world

  419. where there's no greed

  420. can you imagine

  421. walking streets

  422. where people aren't

  423. harboring anger

  424. I think of traveling

  425. every time we go

  426. through those ridiculous

  427. security checkpoints

  428. and they're good

  429. we need them

  430. why do we need

  431. security everywhere

  432. because we live

  433. in a fallen world

  434. you know we're told

  435. that God is holy

  436. and we're told

  437. in Revelation 21

  438. and in 22

  439. that in the new Jerusalem

  440. nothing unclean

  441. will enter

  442. no evil

  443. no darkness

  444. will be allowed

  445. to be in God's presence

  446. because God is holy

  447. and so life

  448. in the world to come

  449. will be without sin

  450. that alone

  451. will be shocking

  452. it will be absolutely shocking

  453. to see ourselves

  454. without sin

  455. to know ourselves

  456. without sin

  457. to know others

  458. without sin

  459. getting in the way

  460. and that's the second thing

  461. I want us to look at

  462. is God is triune

  463. He's a trinity

  464. and so heaven will be lived

  465. life lived

  466. in perfect community

  467. God is a triune God

  468. He exists as three in one

  469. He's truly one God

  470. truly Father

  471. truly Son

  472. truly Spirit

  473. and if you have a difficult time

  474. understanding that

  475. that's okay

  476. the Bible says

  477. that's the truth

  478. it's hard to wrap

  479. our heads around

  480. I've tried to explain it

  481. to my kids

  482. at least a hundred times

  483. usually I end up

  484. more confused than them

  485. and I'm going

  486. okay

  487. so it's one God

  488. and it's truly Father

  489. and truly Son

  490. and truly Spirit

  491. and truly one God

  492. and yeah

  493. that's just what the Bible says

  494. it's hard to wrap our minds around

  495. but the important thing

  496. to grasp in there

  497. is that God has always

  498. eternally existed

  499. and will always

  500. eternally exist

  501. within perfect community

  502. within Himself

  503. we saw in Colossians 1-3

  504. we saw that Paul says

  505. we thank God the Father

  506. of our Lord Jesus Christ

  507. so we see the Father and Son

  508. and then in Colossians 1-8

  509. we are told that

  510. Epaphras has told Paul

  511. of the Colossians

  512. love in the Spirit

  513. so we see Father

  514. Son

  515. Spirit

  516. it's proclaimed

  517. all throughout

  518. all throughout Scripture

  519. Old Testament

  520. New Testament

  521. you can't get away

  522. from this fact

  523. God exists in

  524. perfect community

  525. with Himself

  526. He didn't create us

  527. because He was lonely

  528. but He did create us

  529. to live like Him

  530. in community

  531. and we see in Genesis 1-2

  532. that man and woman

  533. before their sin

  534. they're in perfect union

  535. they're unclothed

  536. and unashamed

  537. they're not fighting

  538. against each other

  539. they're not blaming

  540. each other

  541. they're not trying

  542. to outdo each other

  543. and that they're told

  544. to be fruitful

  545. and multiply

  546. that God's plan

  547. is for His people

  548. to inhabit planet Earth

  549. in perfect relationship

  550. and He sets the example

  551. for what that's like

  552. by existing Himself

  553. in perfect community

  554. and so when we think

  555. about the world to come

  556. we can look back

  557. at original creation

  558. and we can look up

  559. at God

  560. and we can go

  561. God exists in perfect community

  562. He created us

  563. to exist in perfect relationships

  564. without sin between us

  565. and then we can look forward

  566. and go

  567. heaven's going to be

  568. perfect relationships

  569. with no sin between us

  570. and I think of meals together

  571. with friends

  572. and relatives

  573. who've passed before us

  574. with saints of old

  575. sometimes I'll get so caught up

  576. thinking about

  577. who I can't wait

  578. to go for a walk with

  579. in heaven

  580. I'll forget that I'm here

  581. on earth at times

  582. and I think about

  583. some of these guys

  584. that we read

  585. or some of these ladies

  586. in scripture

  587. that are just

  588. we would say

  589. heroes of the faith

  590. and we'll get to

  591. spend eternal life

  592. with them

  593. in perfect relationship

  594. with Christ Himself

  595. in perfect relationships

  596. Anthony Hockman says

  597. God's plan for relationships

  598. does not stop

  599. on the new earth

  600. it continues

  601. He doesn't abandon

  602. His purposes

  603. He extends

  604. and fulfills them

  605. relationships begun

  606. or even hope to have begun

  607. on earth

  608. will continue in heaven

  609. getting richer

  610. and more close

  611. than ever

  612. Jonathan Edwards says

  613. every Christian friend

  614. that goes before us

  615. from this world

  616. is a ransom spirit

  617. waiting to welcome us

  618. in heaven

  619. there will be the child

  620. of our youth

  621. that we've lost below

  622. through grace

  623. to be found above

  624. in heaven

  625. our relationships

  626. with our Christian fathers

  627. and mothers

  628. and wives

  629. and children

  630. and husbands

  631. and friends

  632. which was interrupted

  633. by death

  634. here shall be commenced

  635. again

  636. in the upper sanctuary

  637. and shall never end

  638. and the template

  639. for life

  640. in perfect community

  641. is God Himself

  642. who exists eternally

  643. in perfect community

  644. and in heaven

  645. we will get to experience

  646. relationships

  647. at a level

  648. that we cannot even fathom

  649. I know Cassie and I

  650. have thoroughly enjoyed

  651. getting to know

  652. Karageline Baptist Church

  653. and we've had meals

  654. with some of you

  655. we've had small group

  656. with some of you

  657. we've gone on hikes

  658. and literally climbed mountains

  659. with some of you

  660. and it's just been a blast

  661. to get to know you guys

  662. and there's part of me

  663. that looks forward

  664. to September

  665. like I said

  666. and goes

  667. I don't want to go back

  668. to Southern California

  669. I feel like I have this

  670. whole new family

  671. that I'm just getting to know

  672. and I can look forward

  673. to heaven though

  674. and go

  675. we'll just pick up

  676. right where we left off

  677. and our relationships

  678. will be more rich

  679. and more deep

  680. because there will not be sin

  681. between us anymore

  682. so God is holy

  683. heaven will be

  684. without sin

  685. God is triune

  686. heaven will be

  687. life lived

  688. in perfect community

  689. and then I want us to see

  690. that God is a personal God

  691. therefore in heaven

  692. we will be perfectly known

  693. God is a personal God

  694. therefore in heaven

  695. we will be perfectly known

  696. Colossians 3

  697. 3-4

  698. for you died

  699. and your life

  700. is now hidden

  701. with Christ

  702. in God

  703. when Christ

  704. who is your life

  705. appears

  706. then you also

  707. will appear

  708. with him

  709. in glory

  710. at some point

  711. Jesus Christ

  712. will return

  713. in person

  714. it's not some sort of

  715. mythical

  716. or magical thing

  717. Christ himself

  718. will descend

  719. from heaven

  720. in person

  721. and then we too

  722. who are Christians

  723. will exist with him

  724. in person

  725. in glory

  726. and our glorified bodies

  727. we will be more

  728. truly ourselves

  729. than we have ever been

  730. we will truly know

  731. ourselves

  732. better than we know

  733. ourselves now

  734. and we will truly know

  735. that we are truly known

  736. we kind of get it

  737. right now

  738. but we don't

  739. truly

  740. truly

  741. understand

  742. yet

  743. maybe

  744. maybe you could ask

  745. have I ever felt

  746. misunderstood

  747. or I felt like

  748. someone didn't

  749. completely

  750. just get me

  751. and I can say

  752. yeah

  753. I have

  754. so many times

  755. I felt

  756. so misunderstood

  757. and I think

  758. if you only knew me

  759. if you just

  760. really knew me

  761. you would know

  762. that's not who I am

  763. or that's

  764. not what I thought

  765. about you

  766. if you think

  767. I felt misunderstood

  768. before

  769. you're probably right

  770. you probably weren't

  771. totally understood

  772. because even

  773. in our relationships

  774. with each other

  775. and even trying

  776. to get to know

  777. ourselves

  778. sin is still

  779. in the way

  780. still in the way

  781. and so we're left

  782. in this life

  783. often feeling

  784. unknown

  785. misunderstood

  786. and misrepresented

  787. in the world

  788. to come

  789. we will dwell

  790. with God

  791. who knows us

  792. more truly

  793. than we can

  794. ever imagine

  795. and recognizing

  796. that God

  797. knows us

  798. more truly

  799. than we can

  800. ever imagine

  801. I think

  802. we will be

  803. shocked

  804. to see

  805. how truly

  806. He loves us

  807. each of us

  808. individually

  809. scripture says

  810. not a

  811. not a flower

  812. fades

  813. or not a

  814. hair falls off

  815. a head

  816. and God

  817. doesn't know it

  818. He knows us

  819. intimately

  820. and deeply

  821. and even sin

  822. right now

  823. gets in the way

  824. of our ability

  825. to understand

  826. how true

  827. God's knowledge

  828. is of each

  829. of us

  830. I love in

  831. Revelation 2

  832. it says that

  833. that God

  834. has a name

  835. written on a stone

  836. for each of us

  837. that only He knows

  838. I always think

  839. of that like a

  840. like a personal

  841. nickname

  842. that will

  843. perfectly

  844. describe you

  845. I've noticed

  846. that when people

  847. refer to me

  848. in different ways

  849. they know me

  850. in different ways

  851. you've probably

  852. noticed that too

  853. if someone

  854. calls me

  855. Alan

  856. they know me

  857. better than

  858. the person

  859. that just says

  860. hey dude

  861. or hey guy

  862. if someone

  863. calls me

  864. Alan

  865. Giles

  866. I know

  867. they don't

  868. really know

  869. me

  870. because it's

  871. Giles

  872. right

  873. so when I

  874. answer the phone

  875. and say

  876. is Mr.

  877. Giles there

  878. I say

  879. you're a

  880. telemarketer

  881. you don't

  882. know me

  883. if someone

  884. calls me

  885. Pastor Alan

  886. and the states

  887. will use

  888. titles a little

  889. bit more

  890. so if someone

  891. calls me

  892. Pastor Alan

  893. I know that

  894. I've shepherded

  895. them

  896. there's a

  897. relationship

  898. there that's

  899. different

  900. my family

  901. I'll trust

  902. you with a

  903. secret

  904. my family

  905. calls me

  906. Bubba

  907. just my

  908. close family

  909. and they're

  910. not being

  911. goofy like I

  912. know some

  913. of you will

  914. do later

  915. on in the

  916. next month

  917. but if

  918. someone says

  919. hey Bubba

  920. I know that

  921. they know

  922. me much

  923. more intimately

  924. they're a

  925. brother or

  926. sister or

  927. one of my

  928. wife's brothers

  929. or sisters

  930. or a very

  931. close friend

  932. someone says

  933. daddy

  934. well I know

  935. it's one of

  936. my children

  937. that's a

  938. different

  939. relationship

  940. and in

  941. Revelation 2

  942. it says

  943. God has a

  944. name for us

  945. that only he

  946. knows

  947. and again

  948. I just

  949. imagine

  950. it's the

  951. name that

  952. most truly

  953. describes who

  954. we are

  955. that when

  956. God

  957. looks at us

  958. and speaks

  959. to us

  960. and calls

  961. us by

  962. name

  963. we will

  964. instantly

  965. recognize

  966. this

  967. this

  968. God

  969. knows

  970. me

  971. he gets

  972. me

  973. and yet

  974. he still

  975. loves me

  976. and as

  977. we understand

  978. how much

  979. God gets

  980. us and

  981. knows us

  982. and loves

  983. us we

  984. will truly

  985. be who

  986. we are

  987. we'll begin

  988. to take

  989. off the

  990. masks

  991. that we

  992. wear

  993. throughout

  994. the weeks

  995. God is

  996. a personal

  997. God

  998. and in

  999. heaven we

  1000. will be

  1001. perfectly

  1002. known

  1003. we'll be

  1004. known

  1005. we'll know

  1006. that we

  1007. are known

  1008. and loved

  1009. and I'll

  1010. just say

  1011. these are

  1012. just a

  1013. glimpse of

  1014. heaven

  1015. it's just

  1016. a glimpse

  1017. of what

  1018. Paul says

  1019. to set

  1020. our hearts

  1021. and our

  1022. minds

  1023. on

  1024. it's a

  1025. glimpse of

  1026. what's

  1027. truly

  1028. waiting

  1029. for us

  1030. but it's

  1031. what Paul

  1032. calls us

  1033. to dwell

  1034. on

  1035. it's what

  1036. Paul calls

  1037. us to

  1038. to be a

  1039. people who

  1040. whose minds

  1041. and hearts

  1042. are flooded

  1043. with these

  1044. thoughts

  1045. and these

  1046. desires

  1047. and that

  1048. these desires

  1049. for this

  1050. life with

  1051. this God

  1052. will push

  1053. out our

  1054. earthly

  1055. desires

  1056. as I

  1057. set my

  1058. heart

  1059. and my

  1060. mind

  1061. on things

  1062. above

  1063. where

  1064. Christ

  1065. is

  1066. seated

  1067. as I

  1068. remember

  1069. who I

  1070. am in

  1071. Christ

  1072. as I

  1073. dwell

  1074. on the

  1075. life

  1076. that he's

  1077. bringing

  1078. me

  1079. into

  1080. I

  1081. find

  1082. that I'm

  1083. just

  1084. propelled

  1085. through

  1086. this

  1087. life

  1088. and this

  1089. is the

  1090. hope that

  1091. we have

  1092. before us

  1093. as

  1094. Christians

  1095. let me

  1096. just ask

  1097. do you

  1098. believe

  1099. this

  1100. do you

  1101. believe

  1102. these

  1103. things

  1104. if you

  1105. don't

  1106. believe

  1107. this

  1108. if you

  1109. don't

  1110. believe

  1111. that

  1112. your

  1113. life

  1114. is

  1115. hidden

  1116. with

  1117. Christ

  1118. who

  1119. is

  1120. your

  1121. Lord

  1122. and

  1123. Savior

  1124. then I

  1125. have to

  1126. be honest

  1127. with you

  1128. this

  1129. life

  1130. is the

  1131. best

  1132. thing

  1133. you

  1134. have

  1135. to

  1136. look

  1137. forward

  1138. to

  1139. if your

  1140. faith

  1141. is not

  1142. in

  1143. Christ

  1144. then

  1145. this

  1146. sin

  1147. filled

  1148. world

  1149. these

  1150. broken

  1151. relationships

  1152. this

  1153. life

  1154. in which

  1155. you

  1156. might

  1157. not

  1158. ever

  1159. truly

  1160. be

  1161. known

  1162. by

  1163. any

  1164. other

  1165. human

  1166. being

  1167. is

  1168. all

  1169. we

  1170. have

  1171. to

  1172. look

  1173. forward

  1174. to

  1175. if

  1176. we

  1177. don't

  1178. have

  1179. Christ

  1180. and

  1181. if

  1182. we're

  1183. honest

  1184. it's

  1185. all

  1186. we

  1187. deserve

  1188. without

  1189. Christ

  1190. this

  1191. life

  1192. would

  1193. be

  1194. all

  1195. we

  1196. deserve

  1197. we've

  1198. perpetuated

  1199. sin

  1200. we're

  1201. all

  1202. guilty

  1203. we've

  1204. broken

  1205. relationships

  1206. with other

  1207. people

  1208. we haven't

  1209. been

  1210. perfect

  1211. in our

  1212. relationships

  1213. we've

  1214. failed

  1215. to truly

  1216. see

  1217. others

  1218. as

  1219. God

  1220. sees

  1221. us

  1222. we

  1223. have

  1224. forgotten

  1225. that

  1226. each

  1227. of

  1228. us

  1229. were

  1230. individually

  1231. knit

  1232. together

  1233. by

  1234. God

  1235. each

  1236. of

  1237. us

  1238. bear

  1239. his

  1240. reflection

  1241. the

  1242. image

  1243. of

  1244. God

  1245. and

  1246. each

  1247. of

  1248. us

  1249. has

  1250. an

  1251. eternal

  1252. soul

  1253. which

  1254. he

  1255. desires

  1256. to

  1257. have

  1258. with

  1259. him

  1260. in

  1261. paradise

  1262. forever

  1263. the

  1264. amazing

  1265. thing

  1266. about

  1267. the

  1268. gospel

  1269. or

  1270. the

  1271. good

  1272. news

  1273. of

  1274. life

  1275. in

  1276. Christ

  1277. is

  1278. that

  1279. there

  1280. is

  1281. hope

  1282. beyond

  1283. this

  1284. life

  1285. and

  1286. there

  1287. is

  1288. hope

  1289. for

  1290. this

  1291. life

  1292. because

  1293. if

  1294. you

  1295. just

  1296. try

  1297. to

  1298. do

  1299. what

  1300. Paul

  1301. said

  1302. in

  1303. verses

  1304. 5-10

  1305. and you

  1306. just

  1307. try to

  1308. wrestle

  1309. your

  1310. sin

  1311. nature

  1312. to the

  1313. ground

  1314. it

  1315. might

  1316. work

  1317. for a

  1318. bit

  1319. it's

  1320. going to

  1321. come back

  1322. and get

  1323. you

  1324. and the

  1325. only hope

  1326. we truly

  1327. have

  1328. in this

  1329. life

  1330. is to

  1331. continue

  1332. to fix

  1333. our

  1334. minds

  1335. on the

  1336. hope

  1337. that we

  1338. have

  1339. in the

  1340. world

  1341. to

  1342. come

  1343. the

  1344. hope

  1345. that

  1346. we

  1347. have

  1348. seated

  1349. above

  1350. in our

  1351. life

  1352. which is

  1353. in

  1354. Christ

  1355. forever

  1356. his

  1357. plan

  1358. is

  1359. that

  1360. someday

  1361. there

  1362. will

  1363. be

  1364. no

  1365. more

  1366. sin

  1367. to

  1368. contend

  1369. with

  1370. no

  1371. more

  1372. broken

  1373. relationships

  1374. no

  1375. more

  1376. misunderstanding

  1377. of

  1378. who

  1379. we

  1380. are

  1381. nothing

  1382. but

  1383. eternal

  1384. life

  1385. in the

  1386. presence

  1387. of

  1388. God

  1389. it

  1390. is

  1391. the

  1392. unstoppable

  1393. plan

  1394. of

  1395. God

  1396. it

  1397. is

  1398. where

  1399. history

  1400. is

  1401. headed

  1402. someday

  1403. when we

  1404. speak

  1405. of

  1406. paradise

  1407. it

  1408. won't

  1409. be

  1410. something

  1411. we

  1412. hope

  1413. to

  1414. experience

  1415. or

  1416. something

  1417. that

  1418. we're

  1419. having

  1420. to

  1421. set

  1422. our

  1423. hearts

  1424. or

  1425. minds

  1426. on

  1427. but

  1428. something

  1429. that

  1430. we

  1431. are

  1432. currently

  1433. enjoying

  1434. and

  1435. life

  1436. will

  1437. be

  1438. radically

  1439. different

  1440. and

  1441. I

  1442. truly

  1443. believe

  1444. what

  1445. Paul

  1446. says

  1447. here

  1448. in

  1449. Colossians

  1450. 3

  1451. that

  1452. as

  1453. we

  1454. set

  1455. our

  1456. hearts

  1457. on

  1458. these

  1459. things

  1460. as

  1461. we

  1462. set

  1463. our

  1464. minds

  1465. on

  1466. these

  1467. things

  1468. this

  1469. future

  1470. with

  1471. this

  1472. God

  1473. then

  1474. our

  1475. old

  1476. self

  1477. it

  1478. just

  1479. simply

  1480. won't

  1481. fit

  1482. anymore

  1483. we

  1484. will

  1485. naturally

  1486. see

  1487. it

  1488. put

  1489. to

  1490. death

  1491. and

  1492. shed

  1493. from

  1494. us

  1495. and

  1496. it

  1497. won't

  1498. ever

  1499. be

  1500. perfect

  1501. in

  1502. this

  1503. life

  1504. you

  1505. are

  1506. not

  1507. going

  1508. to

  1509. perfectly

  1510. conquer

  1511. sin

  1512. Christ

  1513. has

  1514. done

  1515. that

  1516. you

  1517. won't

  1518. be

  1519. perfectly

  1520. sanctified

  1521. he

  1522. has

  1523. imputed

  1524. his

  1525. perfect

  1526. righteousness

  1527. to

  1528. us

  1529. but

  1530. he

  1531. offers

  1532. us

  1533. the

  1534. hope

  1535. of

  1536. a

  1537. promised

  1538. future

  1539. with

  1540. him

  1541. in

  1542. paradise

  1543. and

  1544. that

  1545. is

  1546. the

  1547. power

  1548. for

  1549. our

  1550. purity

  1551. in

  1552. this

  1553. life

  1554. we

  1555. set

  1556. our

  1557. hearts

  1558. and

  1559. our

  1560. minds

  1561. on

  1562. things

  1563. above

  1564. and

  1565. as

  1566. we

  1567. do

  1568. so

  1569. we

  1570. will

  1571. be

  1572. renewed

  1573. in

  1574. the

  1575. image

  1576. of

  1577. our

  1578. creator

  1579. so

  1580. I

  1581. encourage

  1582. you

  1583. this

  1584. week

  1585. this

  1586. month

  1587. as

  1588. you

  1589. work

  1590. through

  1591. the

  1592. year

  1593. as

  1594. you

  1595. have

  1596. time

  1597. as

  1598. you

  1599. have

  1600. things

  1601. to

  1602. think

  1603. about

  1604. set

  1605. your

  1606. hearts

  1607. on

  1608. things

  1609. above

  1610. set

  1611. your

  1612. minds

  1613. on

  1614. things

  1615. above

  1616. think

  1617. about

  1618. who

  1619. God

  1620. is

  1621. and

  1622. what

  1623. it

  1624. will

  1625. be

  1626. like

  1627. to

  1628. dwell

  1629. with

  1630. him

  1631. forever

  1632. let's

  1633. pray
