  1. Genesis chapter 9.

    Genesis 9 chapter mention

  2. And we're going to read the whole chapter.

  3. Ralph is going to be speaking a little bit later on, or just after the reading.

  4. Certainly I'm very thankful, an opportunity to sit and to hear God's word.

  5. So I'm looking forward to it, but let's listen to God's word to us and ask for his help to us.

  6. So let's read Genesis chapter 9, starting at verse 1 to the end of the chapter.

    Genesis 9 chapter mention

  7. Then God blessed Noah and his sons, saying to them,

  8. Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the earth.

  9. The fear and dread of you will fall on all the beasts of the earth,

  10. and on all the birds in the sky,

  11. on every creature that moves along the ground,

  12. and on all the fish in the sea.

  13. They are given into your hands.

  14. Everything that lives and moves about will be food for you.

  15. Just as I gave you the green plants,

  16. I now give you everything.

  17. But you must not eat meat that has its lifeblood still in it.

  18. And for your lifeblood, I will surely demand an accounting.

  19. I will demand an accounting from every animal,

  20. and from each human being too.

  21. I will demand an accounting for the life of another human being.

  22. Whoever sheds human blood,

  23. by human shall their blood be shed.

  24. For in the image of God

  25. has God made mankind.

  26. As for you,

  27. be fruitful and increase in number.

  28. Multiply on the earth and increase upon it.

  29. Then God said to Noah and to his sons with him,

  30. I now establish my covenant with you

  31. and with your descendants after you,

  32. and with every living creature that was with you,

  33. the birds, the livestock, and all the wild animals,

  34. and all those that come out of the ark with you,

  35. every living creature on earth.

  36. I establish my covenant with you.

  37. Never again will all life be destroyed

  38. by the waters of a flood.

  39. Never again will there be a flood to destroy the earth.

  40. And God said,

  41. This is the sign of the covenant

  42. I am making between me and you

  43. and every living creature with you.

  44. A covenant for all generations to come.

  45. I have set my rainbow in the clouds,

  46. and it will be a sign of the covenant

  47. between me and the earth.

  48. Whenever I bring clouds over the earth

  49. and the rainbow appears in the clouds,

  50. I will remember my covenant

  51. between me and you

  52. and all living creatures of every kind.

  53. Never again will the waters become a flood

  54. to destroy all life.

  55. Whenever the rainbow appears in the clouds,

  56. I will see it and remember

  57. the everlasting covenant between God

  58. and all living creatures of every kind on the earth.

  59. So God said to Noah,

  60. This is the sign of the covenant

  61. I have established between me

  62. and all life on the earth.

  63. The sons of Noah who came out of the ark

  64. were Shem, Ham and Japheth.

  65. Ham was the father of Canaan.

  66. These were the three sons of Noah,

  67. and from them came the people

  68. who were scattered over the whole earth.

  69. Noah, a man of the soil,

  70. proceeded to plant a vineyard.

  71. When he drank some of its wine,

  72. he became drunk

  73. and lay uncovered inside his tent.

  74. Ham, the father of Canaan,

  75. saw his father naked

  76. and told his two brothers outside.

  77. But Shem and Japheth took a garment

  78. and laid it across their shoulders.

  79. Then they walked in backwards

  80. and covered their father's naked body.

  81. Their faces were turned the other way

  82. so that they could not see

  83. their father naked.

  84. When Noah awoke from his wine

  85. and found out what his youngest son

  86. had done to him,

  87. he said,

  88. Cursed be Canaan!

  89. The lowest of slaves

  90. will he be to his brothers.

  91. He also said,

  92. Praise be to the Lord,

  93. the God of Shem!

  94. May Canaan be the slave of Shem!

  95. May God extend Japheth's territory!

  96. May Japheth live in the tents of Shem!

  97. And may Canaan be the slave of Japheth!

  98. After the flood,

  99. Noah lived 350 years.

  100. Noah lived a total of 950 years.

  101. And then he died.

  102. Thanks, Ralph.

  103. Good morning, everyone.

  104. Thank you, Johnny,

  105. for reading chapter 9 for us this morning.

  106. I might just lower this slightly.

  107. Okay.

  108. And...

  109. Okay, you can still hear me okay?

  110. Yeah, okay.

  111. Well, we reached the end of the story of Noah.

  112. And the question comes up, doesn't it?

  113. How does the world begin again

  114. after such devastation?

  115. A new start,

  116. a new beginning is needed, isn't it,

  117. after the flood?

  118. I was thinking World War II

  119. might be the closest reference point

  120. that we have in our generation

  121. to the time of Noah.

  122. We've seen documentaries...

  123. Sorry, I'm going to make this a little bit higher

  124. now.

  125. It seems to be going down on me.

  126. Sorry, just seen the stand

  127. for those listening on audio.

  128. We've seen documentaries,

  129. watched films,

  130. and...

  131. Sorry.

  132. I'm really struggling with this.

  133. Very glad we get this one.

  134. Yeah.

  135. Sorry, that might be easier, actually.

  136. Sorry, I'm actually going to switch

  137. the lines altogether.

  138. If we make enough money in the book sales,

  139. you might get a new one.

  140. Sorry.

  141. Thanks, Johnny.

  142. Hello.

  143. Dear.

  144. Thanks.

  145. Thanks, Johnny.

  146. I said, I think the closest reference

  147. we might have

  148. to the devastation of the time of Noah

  149. is World War II.

  150. And I said, we've seen documentaries

  151. or watched films

  152. or even read books

  153. about what that time was like.

  154. And even through those,

  155. we only get a hint

  156. of what the upheaval

  157. must have been.

  158. After six years

  159. and all the destruction,

  160. it finally ended

  161. in September 1945.

  162. But not before

  163. the US had dropped

  164. two nuclear bombs

  165. over the cities

  166. of Nagasaki

  167. and Hiroshima,

  168. totally obliterating them

  169. and killing

  170. tens of thousands

  171. of people.

  172. But a new start

  173. did come,

  174. didn't it?

  175. On the world stage

  176. after World War II,

  177. we had the emergence

  178. of the United Nations,

  179. we had the beginnings

  180. of the early start

  181. of the European Union,

  182. and both of them

  183. were an attempt

  184. to say,

  185. never again,

  186. never again,

  187. never again.

  188. The scorched lands

  189. of Germany

  190. and Japan

  191. were rebuilt

  192. with outside help.

  193. a new start

  194. for the main aggressors

  195. of the war.

  196. And what can happen

  197. on the world

  198. or the global stage

  199. can also happen

  200. on our stage,

  201. our personal stage,

  202. on the small scale.

  203. We can be left

  204. wiped out.

  205. We can be left

  206. under rubble

  207. by people

  208. and by circumstances

  209. or both.

  210. We get that urge,

  211. don't we?

  212. We want to start again.

  213. We want to build better.

  214. And if you haven't

  215. already gone through

  216. a fresh start

  217. in your life,

  218. chances are

  219. you've thought about it.

  220. You've thought about

  221. selling up,

  222. packing up,

  223. and just moving on.

  224. And as we reach

  225. chapter 9 in Genesis,

  226. we find the first

  227. worldwide

  228. fresh start.

  229. It is a post-apocalyptic

  230. world.

  231. The black and white

  232. clips from World War II

  233. can't compare

  234. to the breadth

  235. and the depth

  236. of the destruction

  237. here.

  238. It was near

  239. total,

  240. global,

  241. worldwide

  242. wipeout.

  243. And in one sense,

  244. the earth is now

  245. arguably cleansed.

  246. We have these

  247. eight

  248. hand-picked

  249. survivors.

  250. And on paper,

  251. all good people,

  252. all chosen by God.

  253. We could assume

  254. that all that was wrong

  255. with the old world

  256. has now been

  257. decisively dealt with.

  258. It's sorted out,

  259. gone,

  260. and dead,

  261. and buried

  262. in the rubble

  263. and the muck.

  264. All that was wrong.

  265. This is the

  266. freshest

  267. of fresh

  268. possible starts.

  269. And the focus

  270. in Genesis chapter 9

    Genesis 9 chapter mention

  271. is about that

  272. fresh start.

  273. chapter 8

  274. has led us up

  275. to it,

  276. hasn't it?

  277. The waters,

  278. remember,

  279. they subsided.

  280. The waters are subsiding

  281. and the dry land

  282. is beginning

  283. to appear again.

  284. And that's an echo

  285. back to Genesis chapter 1,

    Genesis 1 chapter mention

  286. wasn't it?

  287. Where the waters

  288. were gathered together

  289. so that dry land

  290. could appear.

  291. And the coming

  292. of the birds

  293. and the animals

  294. out of the ark

  295. to fill the land

  296. again

  297. and to fill

  298. the skies again,

  299. that's to remind us

  300. again of Genesis 1,

  301. isn't it?

  302. Where God created

  303. the animals

  304. and he created

  305. the birds

  306. to fill the land

  307. he'd created

  308. and to fill

  309. the skies

  310. that he had created.

  311. It's back

  312. to creation again.

  313. So God,

  314. in a sense,

  315. in chapter 9 here

  316. and chapter 8

  317. is helping us

  318. to imagine

  319. that this is

  320. a re-creation.

  321. It's a re-affirming,

  322. a re-establishing

  323. of his relationship

  324. and his covenant

  325. with creation

  326. and with

  327. his image bearers.

  328. And of course,

  329. we're meant to think,

  330. aren't we,

  331. then,

  332. that if that's

  333. what's happening,

  334. that Noah

  335. is like a new Adam.

  336. Look at verse 1,

  337. then God blessed

  338. Noah

  339. and his sons,

  340. saying to them,

  341. be fruitful

  342. and increase in number

  343. and fill

  344. the earth.

  345. You see,

  346. the blessing

  347. is being passed

  348. on to Noah now

  349. and the command

  350. to be fruitful

  351. and increase in number

  352. and fill the earth.

  353. Well,

  354. that's Genesis 1 again,

  355. isn't it?

  356. It's back

  357. to creation.

  358. And God is saying,

  359. enjoy the new start.

  360. Be fruitful.

  361. Fill the earth.

  362. And we have this

  363. provision as well,

  364. don't we,

  365. of food again.

  366. Also an echo

  367. from Genesis 1.

  368. And we see that

  369. in verse 3.

  370. In the garden,

  371. what was it?

  372. It was all the plants

  373. and all the fruit

  374. and all the trees

  375. that were given

  376. to Adam and Eve

  377. and to humanity

  378. to enjoy.

  379. And here,

  380. everything is given

  381. for food,

  382. including the animals.

  383. So steak is now

  384. on the menu.

  385. But,

  386. can we also see

  387. in these verses

  388. the subtle changes

  389. from the garden,

  390. the subtle changes

  391. to suit

  392. the circumstances

  393. of a fallen world.

  394. The curse

  395. and the impacts

  396. of sin

  397. resulting from

  398. Adam and Eve's rebellion

  399. still,

  400. it's still simmering,

  401. isn't it,

  402. under the surface

  403. through all of life.

  404. Notice some

  405. of the difference.

  406. Look at verse 2.

  407. The animals

  408. that,

  409. remember they came

  410. to Adam

  411. to be named

  412. by him in the garden?

  413. It's almost like

  414. they come up,

  415. there's no fear there.

  416. Or they were brought

  417. by God

  418. to Noah

  419. to enter the ark

  420. and the animals

  421. went into the ark

  422. with Noah

  423. and stayed with Noah

  424. on the ark

  425. and lived with him.

  426. Well,

  427. now they don't come

  428. so easily.

  429. Verse 2.

  430. The fear and dread

  431. of you will fall

  432. on all the beasts

  433. of the earth

  434. and all the birds

  435. in the sky.

  436. They carry a fear

  437. of people now.

  438. So that assumed care

  439. that we read about

  440. in Genesis 1

  441. of mankind

  442. caring for creation,

  443. that assumption

  444. of that relationship

  445. is,

  446. well,

  447. it's broken.

  448. It's not as it should be.

  449. And basics,

  450. I mean real basics

  451. that we could have

  452. taken for granted

  453. back in the garden,

  454. they now need to be

  455. spelt out by God

  456. and written large

  457. and kind of

  458. blown up

  459. and announced.

  460. Basics.

  461. The intrinsic

  462. worth

  463. of human

  464. life

  465. needs to be

  466. spelt out.

  467. Genesis 9

  468. and verse 4.

  469. But you must not

  470. eat meat

  471. that has its

  472. lifeblood

  473. still in it.

  474. And for your

  475. lifeblood,

  476. that's the lifeblood

  477. of a person,

  478. I will surely

  479. demand

  480. an accounting.

  481. What's

  482. verse 4

  483. and this thing

  484. about lifeblood?

  485. What's it about?

  486. Why the emphasis

  487. on blood

  488. and lifeblood?

  489. Well,

  490. I think it's this.

  491. God is setting

  492. blood as a symbol

  493. and as a sign

  494. of life.

  495. And we'll see that

  496. all through the scriptures

  497. from here on in.

  498. But blood is

  499. really a proxy

  500. or a symbol

  501. for life itself.

  502. Blood,

  503. then,

  504. is to remind us

  505. of what?

  506. The sanctity

  507. of life.

  508. Blood

  509. equals

  510. life.

  511. And you show

  512. your respect

  513. for life

  514. by showing

  515. your respect

  516. for blood

  517. as a symbol.

  518. Even in how

  519. the animals

  520. are to be killed

  521. and to be eaten.

  522. It's to remind us

  523. that blood

  524. equals life

  525. and life

  526. is sacred.

  527. Verse 5

  528. and 6,

  529. any time

  530. an image

  531. bearer

  532. of God.

  533. Think about that.

  534. Any time

  535. an image

  536. bearer

  537. of God

  538. that is a man

  539. or a woman

  540. or the unborn

  541. or a baby

  542. or an infant

  543. or a child

  544. or the elderly

  545. is spilled.

  546. Any time

  547. the blood

  548. of a person

  549. is spilled,

  550. God

  551. will

  552. demand

  553. an accounting.

  554. God

  555. will demand

  556. an accounting.

  557. Shedding

  558. the blood

  559. of a person

  560. is no

  561. small

  562. thing.

  563. God

  564. himself

  565. will hold

  566. you to

  567. account.

  568. Why?

  569. Why this

  570. high standard?

  571. Well,

  572. verse 6

  573. reminds us

  574. and again

  575. back to the

  576. garden.

  577. Whoever

  578. sheds human

  579. blood

  580. by humans

  581. shall their

  582. blood be

  583. shed.

  584. Why?

  585. For in the

  586. image of

  587. God

  588. has God

  589. made

  590. mankind.

  591. Each

  592. human being,

  593. each of you

  594. here

  595. this morning,

  596. you bear

  597. the image

  598. of God.

  599. You bear

  600. the image

  601. of God.

  602. Even after

  603. the fall,

  604. even after

  605. you've

  606. been afflicted

  607. by sin,

  608. you still

  609. bear God's

  610. stamp.

  611. Human life

  612. is sacred.

  613. It's touched

  614. by God

  615. himself.

  616. And this

  617. used to be

  618. taken for

  619. granted.

  620. It used to

  621. be a

  622. cornerstone

  623. of society

  624. because of

  625. Christian influence

  626. over centuries.

  627. But those

  628. ethics around

  629. life and

  630. death,

  631. they've

  632. had a

  633. lasting

  634. impact,

  635. but they're

  636. drifting away,

  637. aren't they?

  638. The idea

  639. that human

  640. life is

  641. intrinsically

  642. valuable is

  643. rapidly being

  644. dismantled.

  645. The value

  646. of life is

  647. now negotiable

  648. and we

  649. can have a

  650. debate about

  651. it.

  652. And especially

  653. debate and

  654. negotiate about

  655. those at the

  656. very edges,

  657. those that are

  658. most vulnerable,

  659. those that are

  660. in the early

  661. days in the

  662. womb or those

  663. that are at

  664. their latter

  665. days towards

  666. the end of

  667. their life.

  668. Let's have a

  669. discussion and

  670. a debate about

  671. killing.

  672. Let's have that

  673. debate about

  674. the smallest

  675. and the

  676. weakest and

  677. the most

  678. vulnerable and

  679. call their

  680. lives expendable.

  681. But the

  682. Bible here

  683. reminds us

  684. that each

  685. human life

  686. is precious

  687. because each

  688. one bears

  689. the image

  690. of God.

  691. Each one

  692. is marked

  693. and stamped

  694. by the

  695. creator.

  696. To unjustly

  697. kill and

  698. to unjustly

  699. take life

  700. is to

  701. unjustly

  702. attack

  703. God

  704. himself

  705. and he

  706. will demand

  707. an accounting.

  708. So this

  709. is the

  710. fresh and

  711. the new

  712. start.

  713. The garden

  714. again but

  715. with modifications.

  716. We have

  717. Noah as a

  718. new Adam.

  719. He takes on

  720. the mantle to

  721. rule and

  722. care for

  723. the earth,

  724. to be

  725. fruitful and

  726. to protect

  727. life.

  728. Here we

  729. have eight

  730. people who

  731. have witnessed

  732. the flood.

  733. They've

  734. witnessed God's

  735. judgment and

  736. God's wrath

  737. poured out

  738. against sin.

  739. And they've

  740. been blessed

  741. now with

  742. God's salvation

  743. and they've

  744. been given

  745. God's direction.

  746. All the

  747. old people

  748. and all the

  749. old circumstances

  750. and all the

  751. old situations

  752. they've been

  753. wiped.

  754. They've been

  755. wiped out.

  756. They've been

  757. wiped away

  758. literally.

  759. They've

  760. arrived in

  761. a new

  762. country.

  763. Everything

  764. else is

  765. gone and

  766. in the

  767. past.

  768. They've

  769. been told

  770. to go

  771. and make

  772. the world

  773. their own.

  774. It's the

  775. freshest of

  776. freshest

  777. possible

  778. starts that

  779. any of us

  780. could imagine.

  781. But what's

  782. your experience

  783. and my

  784. experience of

  785. fresh starts?

  786. Well,

  787. after a

  788. time,

  789. they're simply

  790. not new

  791. anymore.

  792. They're not

  793. fresh enough

  794. anymore.

  795. You see,

  796. the old

  797. issues and

  798. the old

  799. habits with

  800. their simmering

  801. tendency,

  802. they kind

  803. of come up

  804. again,

  805. don't they?

  806. But why?

  807. Why can't

  808. we just

  809. have the

  810. never-ending

  811. fresh start?

  812. Well,

  813. I think we

  814. have a sense

  815. of that

  816. already.

  817. Even if the

  818. world was

  819. washed clean

  820. for us to

  821. begin again,

  822. we'd still

  823. be there.

  824. even if the

  825. world was

  826. washed

  827. clean for

  828. us to

  829. begin again,

  830. we'd still

  831. be there

  832. carrying with

  833. us our

  834. personal strain

  835. and mutation

  836. of the

  837. sin virus.

  838. It's along

  839. the lines of

  840. the old

  841. quip,

  842. and some of

  843. you will

  844. know this

  845. one,

  846. if you

  847. find the

  848. perfect

  849. church,

  850. don't join

  851. us,

  852. you'd spoil

  853. us.

  854. Which we can

  855. modify as,

  856. if you find the

  857. perfect new

  858. starts,

  859. don't go

  860. for it,

  861. you'd spoil

  862. it.

  863. Let's jump

  864. down to

  865. verse 18

  866. and look

  867. at what

  868. happened to

  869. this new

  870. start,

  871. this global

  872. new start.

  873. They come

  874. out of the

  875. ark,

  876. verse 18,

  877. Noah and

  878. his sons

  879. and their

  880. families,

  881. and verse

  882. 20,

  883. Noah, a

  884. man of the

  885. soil,

  886. proceeded to

  887. plant a

  888. vineyard,

  889. and when he

  890. drank some

  891. of its

  892. wine,

  893. he became

  894. drunk and

  895. lay on

  896. covered inside

  897. his tent.

  898. Verse 22,

  899. Ham, the

  900. father of

  901. Canaan, saw

  902. his father

  903. naked and

  904. told his

  905. brothers outside.

  906. It's chapter

  907. one to three

  908. again, isn't

  909. it?

  910. It's like the

  911. garden all

  912. over again,

  913. sin and its

  914. consequences.

  915. And we have

  916. fruit again as

  917. a trigger for

  918. sinful actions.

  919. This time it's

  920. fruit from the

  921. vine, grapes,

  922. instead of

  923. fruit from the

  924. tree of the

  925. knowledge of

  926. good and

  927. evil.

  928. And Noah,

  929. he's delighted

  930. with his

  931. post-flood

  932. discovery of

  933. his wine-making

  934. abilities.

  935. And nothing

  936. wrong with

  937. enjoying the

  938. literal fruits

  939. of your

  940. labor.

  941. There's nothing

  942. wrong with

  943. that.

  944. There's nothing

  945. wrong with

  946. some of the

  947. wine, verse

  948. 21.

  949. But when

  950. drinking and

  951. sin can

  952. combine, they

  953. can combine

  954. very quickly

  955. to snare

  956. the body

  957. and the

  958. mind and

  959. lead to

  960. drunkenness.

  961. And like

  962. the garden,

  963. after the

  964. episode of

  965. sin, we

  966. have this

  967. following of

  968. a sense of

  969. nakedness and

  970. a sense of

  971. shame about

  972. that.

  973. Again, it's

  974. all intentional

  975. parallels between

  976. the start in the

  977. garden and the

  978. start with

  979. Noah.

  980. Verse 22,

  981. Ham, the

  982. father of

  983. Canaan, seeing

  984. his father

  985. nakedness.

  986. And then we

  987. have this

  988. strange part

  989. in some ways.

  990. It feels like

  991. an overreaction

  992. by Noah.

  993. After all, it

  994. was he that

  995. sins originally.

  996. Poor

  997. grandson

  998. Canaan

  999. ends up

  1000. getting cursed

  1001. because of

  1002. his father

  1003. Ham

  1004. happening to

  1005. see

  1006. granddad

  1007. Noah naked.

  1008. It's a

  1009. really strange

  1010. family

  1011. situation.

  1012. Verse 24

  1013. and 25,

  1014. when Noah

  1015. awoke from

  1016. his wine and

  1017. found out what

  1018. his youngest

  1019. son had done

  1020. to him, he

  1021. said,

  1022. curse be

  1023. Canaan, the

  1024. lowest of

  1025. slaves will

  1026. be all of

  1027. his brothers.

  1028. So we

  1029. have this

  1030. embarrassed

  1031. Noah and

  1032. his own

  1033. drunken

  1034. shame leading

  1035. to his

  1036. grandson being

  1037. cursed.

  1038. And the

  1039. cursing of

  1040. Noah, the

  1041. extremity of

  1042. that in some

  1043. way, points

  1044. us back to

  1045. consider how

  1046. bad the

  1047. behavior of

  1048. Ham was in

  1049. verse 22.

  1050. Look at what

  1051. it says right

  1052. at the end.

  1053. Ham, the

  1054. father of

  1055. Canaan, saw

  1056. his father

  1057. naked and

  1058. told his

  1059. two brothers

  1060. outside.

  1061. And instead

  1062. of protecting

  1063. his father's

  1064. dignity and

  1065. his father's

  1066. modesty,

  1067. Ham engaged

  1068. in shaming

  1069. his father.

  1070. And so we

  1071. get this

  1072. contrast between

  1073. his brother's

  1074. subsequent

  1075. modesty and

  1076. care for

  1077. their father

  1078. versus Ham's

  1079. neglect and

  1080. exposure of

  1081. his father's

  1082. shame.

  1083. And again,

  1084. the incident

  1085. might feel

  1086. small to us

  1087. or trivial,

  1088. but it's the

  1089. trigger for

  1090. Noah and

  1091. this family to

  1092. follow the

  1093. garden path

  1094. out of Eden

  1095. again.

  1096. Out of the

  1097. fresh start.

  1098. They walk

  1099. down the path

  1100. out of it

  1101. and split the

  1102. family line

  1103. between curses

  1104. on one hand

  1105. and blessings

  1106. on the other

  1107. hand.

  1108. Do you see it?

  1109. Do you see

  1110. Noah sins?

  1111. Ham sins?

  1112. Canaan is

  1113. cursed as a

  1114. slave while

  1115. the line of

  1116. Shem is

  1117. blessed.

  1118. The cycle

  1119. again of

  1120. fall and

  1121. blessing and

  1122. curses starts

  1123. again.

  1124. And this one

  1125. will reverberate

  1126. for centuries.

  1127. By the time

  1128. Moses, who we

  1129. believe wrote

  1130. Genesis in the

  1131. first five books

  1132. of the Bible,

  1133. sits down to

  1134. write this

  1135. account,

  1136. hundreds or

  1137. thousands of

  1138. years later,

  1139. we have the

  1140. Semites,

  1141. descended from

  1142. Shem or the

  1143. Israelites,

  1144. led by Moses,

  1145. about to go to

  1146. war with the

  1147. descendants of

  1148. Canaan,

  1149. the Canaanites,

  1150. who live in

  1151. the promised

  1152. land.

  1153. So the

  1154. Israelites have

  1155. come up out

  1156. of Egypt and

  1157. they're going

  1158. into the

  1159. promised land.

  1160. So the

  1161. descendants of

  1162. Shem,

  1163. meeting the

  1164. descendants of

  1165. Canaan,

  1166. hundreds or

  1167. thousands of

  1168. years later,

  1169. the curse

  1170. and the

  1171. blessing from

  1172. Noah's hand

  1173. eventually lead

  1174. to war.

  1175. So much

  1176. for the

  1177. fresh start.

  1178. fresh start.

  1179. And how

  1180. often in our

  1181. fresh starts

  1182. probably aren't

  1183. as dramatic

  1184. as that,

  1185. if we're

  1186. honest,

  1187. the opportunities

  1188. we've had,

  1189. but how

  1190. often in our

  1191. mini fresh

  1192. starts do

  1193. we end up

  1194. going down

  1195. the literal

  1196. or proverbial

  1197. garden path

  1198. again and

  1199. heading in

  1200. the wrong

  1201. direction.

  1202. And there's

  1203. almost a

  1204. paradox here

  1205. or a

  1206. slight tension

  1207. because our

  1208. fresh starts

  1209. are often a

  1210. needed blessing

  1211. and opportunity

  1212. and we need

  1213. them,

  1214. but we

  1215. spurn them

  1216. again and

  1217. again.

  1218. It's like

  1219. the stressed

  1220. father working

  1221. 10 hours a

  1222. day.

  1223. And when

  1224. he's at

  1225. home now

  1226. because of

  1227. COVID,

  1228. and when

  1229. he's interrupted

  1230. by his

  1231. eight-year-old

  1232. daughter running

  1233. into his

  1234. room,

  1235. who just

  1236. needs 30

  1237. seconds,

  1238. he barks

  1239. back,

  1240. what do

  1241. you want?

  1242. Close the

  1243. door.

  1244. Instead of

  1245. How are

  1246. you?

  1247. It's good to

  1248. see you.

  1249. How can I

  1250. help,

  1251. pet?

  1252. You see,

  1253. the father

  1254. needs a

  1255. next time,

  1256. doesn't he?

  1257. He needs

  1258. a next start,

  1259. a new start,

  1260. to show an

  1261. ounce of

  1262. care towards

  1263. an image

  1264. bearer.

  1265. And a

  1266. fresh start

  1267. that comes

  1268. with a

  1269. new job.

  1270. There were

  1271. so many

  1272. negatives in

  1273. the old

  1274. place,

  1275. people either

  1276. not caring

  1277. about me or

  1278. the work or

  1279. demanding too

  1280. much out of

  1281. me.

  1282. Well,

  1283. this new

  1284. place,

  1285. I get to

  1286. start over.

  1287. I get to

  1288. build better

  1289. and put in

  1290. place better

  1291. working habits.

  1292. At our

  1293. home groups,

  1294. we've been

  1295. looking at

  1296. the life of

  1297. Noah,

  1298. or Noah,

  1299. I've done it

  1300. again,

  1301. Jonah,

  1302. the life of

  1303. Jonah.

  1304. Jonah ran

  1305. away,

  1306. and he

  1307. sailed away

  1308. from God.

  1309. He

  1310. disobeyed.

  1311. But God

  1312. patiently

  1313. chased him

  1314. down,

  1315. showed him

  1316. mercy,

  1317. and gave

  1318. Jonah a

  1319. second chance.

  1320. And like

  1321. Noah,

  1322. we can even

  1323. sometimes leave

  1324. it all behind.

  1325. We can leave

  1326. all of the

  1327. people and

  1328. all of the

  1329. circumstances and

  1330. have them

  1331. buried down.

  1332. And God can

  1333. even sit us

  1334. down.

  1335. He can open

  1336. up his

  1337. word and he

  1338. can lay out

  1339. for us how

  1340. to build

  1341. again and

  1342. what's going

  1343. to be different

  1344. this time and

  1345. how to behave

  1346. and how to

  1347. act like he

  1348. did at the

  1349. start of the

  1350. chapter.

  1351. And he

  1352. can give

  1353. his blessing

  1354. and he

  1355. can give

  1356. his direction.

  1357. You see,

  1358. we can thank

  1359. God for

  1360. fresh starts

  1361. and second

  1362. chances.

  1363. They are

  1364. a blessing.

  1365. But then

  1366. wham!

  1367. I turn and

  1368. I give out

  1369. to my

  1370. daughter again.

  1371. I cut

  1372. down the

  1373. new people

  1374. in my

  1375. job,

  1376. like my

  1377. old job.

  1378. Like Jonah,

  1379. I start to

  1380. grumble again

  1381. at God for

  1382. not sorting

  1383. out and

  1384. punishing

  1385. those people

  1386. that I

  1387. don't like.

  1388. Or wham!

  1389. Like Noah,

  1390. one day it's

  1391. about new

  1392. starts and

  1393. rainbows and

  1394. blessings and

  1395. then another

  1396. day I'm

  1397. drunk and

  1398. naked and

  1399. disgraced and

  1400. cursing my

  1401. own grandchild.

  1402. Is there

  1403. any hope for

  1404. our new

  1405. starts?

  1406. Any lasting

  1407. hope?

  1408. God

  1409. knows.

  1410. God

  1411. knows.

  1412. He knows

  1413. that new

  1414. starts

  1415. that new

  1416. starts give

  1417. way to

  1418. old

  1419. sins.

  1420. It's no

  1421. surprise to

  1422. God.

  1423. Look back

  1424. Genesis 8

  1425. 21.

  1426. We saw

  1427. this last

  1428. week.

  1429. Genesis 8

  1430. and verse

  1431. 21.

  1432. The Lord

  1433. smelled a

  1434. pleasing aroma.

  1435. This is after

  1436. they've come out

  1437. of the ark and

  1438. they've sacrificed

  1439. to the Lord

  1440. in thanksgiving.

  1441. this is what

  1442. he says in

  1443. his heart.

  1444. Never again

  1445. will I curse

  1446. the ground

  1447. because of

  1448. humans,

  1449. even though

  1450. every inclination

  1451. of the human

  1452. heart is evil

  1453. from childhood

  1454. and never again

  1455. will I destroy

  1456. all living

  1457. creatures as

  1458. I have done.

  1459. As long as

  1460. the earth

  1461. endures,

  1462. sea time and

  1463. harvest,

  1464. cold and

  1465. heat,

  1466. summer and

  1467. winter,

  1468. day and

  1469. night,

  1470. will never

  1471. cease.

  1472. Remember,

  1473. the world

  1474. has been

  1475. cleansed,

  1476. everything has

  1477. been buried

  1478. and done

  1479. away with

  1480. and before

  1481. there's even

  1482. a flicker

  1483. of rebellion,

  1484. of new

  1485. rebellion,

  1486. God promises

  1487. to never

  1488. judge the

  1489. whole earth

  1490. again because

  1491. of mankind's

  1492. sin.

  1493. Because

  1494. we can look

  1495. back at

  1496. the time of

  1497. Noah and

  1498. Genesis and

  1499. kind of wonder

  1500. but the reality

  1501. is this,

  1502. God could

  1503. justly wipe

  1504. out every

  1505. generation on

  1506. this earth.

  1507. He could

  1508. justly wipe

  1509. out every

  1510. generation on

  1511. this earth.

  1512. He could

  1513. repeat this

  1514. every single

  1515. generation because

  1516. of sin.

  1517. Because fresh

  1518. start means

  1519. fresh sin.

  1520. But God's

  1521. judgment on

  1522. the earth is

  1523. stayed because

  1524. of his promise.

  1525. God's

  1526. and we

  1527. see that

  1528. through chapter

  1529. nine,

  1530. don't we,

  1531. that being

  1532. given a

  1533. fresh start

  1534. and being

  1535. given a

  1536. clean slate

  1537. is not

  1538. a sufficient

  1539. remedy

  1540. for the

  1541. human condition

  1542. or for

  1543. human plight.

  1544. It is not.

  1545. A fresh start

  1546. and a clean

  1547. slate like

  1548. this is not.

  1549. Even before

  1550. we read a

  1551. single word

  1552. of a fall

  1553. from chapter

  1554. nine,

  1555. God is

  1556. promising

  1557. in his

  1558. heart to

  1559. be the

  1560. one that

  1561. is faithful,

  1562. to be the

  1563. one that

  1564. is merciful

  1565. towards his

  1566. creation.

  1567. The hope

  1568. for the

  1569. human condition

  1570. is God.

  1571. The hope

  1572. for the

  1573. human condition

  1574. is God

  1575. for him

  1576. to act

  1577. in steadfast

  1578. love towards

  1579. his sinful

  1580. image bearers.

  1581. And this

  1582. brings us to

  1583. the heart

  1584. of the chapter

  1585. from verses

  1586. eight to

  1587. seventeen,

  1588. where God

  1589. establishes

  1590. a covenant

  1591. with his

  1592. creation.

  1593. Let's look

  1594. at verse

  1595. eight to

  1596. eleven.

  1597. Then God

  1598. said to

  1599. Noah and

  1600. his sons

  1601. with him,

  1602. I now

  1603. establish my

  1604. covenant

  1605. with you

  1606. and with

  1607. your

  1608. descendants

  1609. after you

  1610. and with

  1611. every living

  1612. creature

  1613. that was

  1614. with you,

  1615. the birds,

  1616. the livestock,

  1617. all the wild

  1618. animals,

  1619. and all those

  1620. that came out

  1621. of the ark

  1622. with you,

  1623. every living

  1624. creature on

  1625. earth,

  1626. I establish

  1627. my covenant

  1628. with you.

  1629. Never again

  1630. will all life

  1631. be destroyed

  1632. by the waters

  1633. of a flood,

  1634. never again

  1635. will there be

  1636. a flood

  1637. to destroy

  1638. the earth.

  1639. God's

  1640. relationship

  1641. with his

  1642. creation,

  1643. with you

  1644. and me,

  1645. is always

  1646. through a

  1647. covenant.

  1648. But what is a

  1649. covenant?

  1650. Well,

  1651. there's many

  1652. ways to try

  1653. and sum up

  1654. what a covenant

  1655. is in the

  1656. Bible.

  1657. Here's one

  1658. way,

  1659. and I'll

  1660. say it

  1661. twice.

  1662. A covenant

  1663. is a

  1664. voluntary

  1665. relationship

  1666. involving

  1667. solemn

  1668. commitments

  1669. under oath

  1670. between

  1671. parties.

  1672. There's a

  1673. lot in

  1674. there,

  1675. say it

  1676. again.

  1677. A covenant

  1678. is a

  1679. voluntary

  1680. relationship

  1681. involving

  1682. solemn

  1683. commitments

  1684. under oath

  1685. between

  1686. parties.

  1687. And hopefully

  1688. we'll see

  1689. some of those

  1690. elements as we

  1691. look at this

  1692. one.

  1693. And the

  1694. closest human

  1695. equivalent,

  1696. and I think

  1697. this is quite a

  1698. common

  1699. comparison to

  1700. the biblical

  1701. covenant,

  1702. is the one

  1703. between a

  1704. man and a

  1705. woman in

  1706. marriage.

  1707. One man

  1708. and one

  1709. woman make

  1710. promises and

  1711. commitments to

  1712. each other

  1713. that will

  1714. bless them,

  1715. that will

  1716. enrich them,

  1717. and that only

  1718. death can

  1719. separate.

  1720. And in a

  1721. covenant,

  1722. like in a

  1723. marriage,

  1724. the emphasis

  1725. is always on

  1726. the relationship,

  1727. the relationship

  1728. between the

  1729. parties.

  1730. So God

  1731. here is

  1732. making

  1733. deep,

  1734. lasting,

  1735. relational

  1736. commitments and

  1737. covenants

  1738. here.

  1739. And we

  1740. see that

  1741. throughout the

  1742. scriptures,

  1743. through all the

  1744. other covenants

  1745. as well.

  1746. God makes

  1747. those deep,

  1748. deep commitments

  1749. to people.

  1750. And in the

  1751. Noahic

  1752. covenant,

  1753. the covenant

  1754. of Noah,

  1755. the God

  1756. of the

  1757. heavens and

  1758. the earth

  1759. and all

  1760. creation

  1761. freely

  1762. enters into

  1763. a binding

  1764. relationship

  1765. with his

  1766. creation.

  1767. And he

  1768. takes upon

  1769. himself

  1770. the

  1771. commitments

  1772. and the

  1773. promises

  1774. that he

  1775. will fulfill.

  1776. Yes,

  1777. there are

  1778. stipulations

  1779. on humans,

  1780. as we've

  1781. read,

  1782. to protect

  1783. life and

  1784. to protect

  1785. God's

  1786. image

  1787. bearers,

  1788. but it is

  1789. God who

  1790. makes and

  1791. upholds the

  1792. promise to

  1793. preserve life

  1794. on the

  1795. earth for

  1796. all

  1797. generations.

  1798. And that

  1799. is despite

  1800. each

  1801. generation

  1802. adding to

  1803. the fresh

  1804. mountains of

  1805. sin that

  1806. are building

  1807. and accumulating

  1808. all that

  1809. sin and

  1810. injustice that

  1811. we witness

  1812. in the

  1813. world.

  1814. So this

  1815. is how the

  1816. covenant here

  1817. works.

  1818. We've seen

  1819. Noah sins,

  1820. God sees

  1821. and remembers

  1822. his promise.

  1823. God waits,

  1824. God is

  1825. merciful and

  1826. patient.

  1827. The people,

  1828. including us,

  1829. after Noah

  1830. sin,

  1831. God sees

  1832. and God

  1833. remembers his

  1834. promise and

  1835. God waits.

  1836. God is

  1837. merciful and

  1838. God is

  1839. patient.

  1840. All the

  1841. time God is

  1842. remembering his

  1843. promise to

  1844. Noah, all

  1845. this time that

  1846. God is

  1847. remembering, he

  1848. also provides a

  1849. sign, a

  1850. physical sign, a

  1851. rainbow as a

  1852. reminder.

  1853. And future

  1854. covenants will

  1855. have their

  1856. signs, won't

  1857. they?

  1858. Circumcision,

  1859. the Sabbath or

  1860. baptism.

  1861. And each of

  1862. those signs will

  1863. see the human

  1864. side carry out

  1865. the cutting,

  1866. the observing or

  1867. the baptizing.

  1868. So there's

  1869. always a human

  1870. element in the

  1871. future signs and

  1872. the covenants

  1873. that will come.

  1874. But this

  1875. covenant and

  1876. sign is

  1877. different,

  1878. isn't it?

  1879. See, the

  1880. rainbow in the

  1881. sky, it's

  1882. enacted always

  1883. by who?

  1884. Not by us.

  1885. I mean, we

  1886. don't put

  1887. rainbows in

  1888. the sky.

  1889. It's enacted

  1890. by God.

  1891. And we're

  1892. not going to

  1893. read this all

  1894. again, but

  1895. just if you

  1896. glance down

  1897. through verses

  1898. 12 onwards

  1899. about the

  1900. rainbow, it

  1901. says, this is

  1902. the sign of

  1903. the covenant I

  1904. am making.

  1905. I have set my

  1906. rainbow or my

  1907. hunter's bow,

  1908. literally, in

  1909. the clouds.

  1910. Whenever I

  1911. bring clouds

  1912. over the earth

  1913. and the rainbow

  1914. appears in the

  1915. clouds, I will

  1916. remember my

  1917. covenant.

  1918. I will see

  1919. it and remember

  1920. the everlasting

  1921. covenant.

  1922. So when it

  1923. comes to the

  1924. sign of the

  1925. covenant, the

  1926. rainbow, it's

  1927. all God.

  1928. I, I, I.

  1929. Not you, you,

  1930. you.

  1931. God is setting

  1932. the sign.

  1933. Not because he

  1934. would forget,

  1935. but so that we

  1936. are comforted to

  1937. know that God

  1938. is keeping his

  1939. promise.

  1940. because after

  1941. the global

  1942. flood, any

  1943. rain cloud in

  1944. the sky could

  1945. be a bit

  1946. threatening, a

  1947. bit menacing,

  1948. couldn't it?

  1949. Oh no, uh-oh,

  1950. oh, it's the

  1951. clouds again.

  1952. Uh-oh, we're

  1953. in trouble.

  1954. It's a threat of

  1955. judgment from God,

  1956. the clouds coming.

  1957. But God turns

  1958. around our fear

  1959. of judgment by

  1960. setting his bow

  1961. in the rain

  1962. clouds.

  1963. His bow, his

  1964. rainbow, serves as

  1965. a sign that he

  1966. would never judge

  1967. the earth by

  1968. flood again.

  1969. So brothers and

  1970. sisters in the

  1971. Lord, remember,

  1972. when you fail in

  1973. your actions and

  1974. your heart towards

  1975. your daughter, just

  1976. asking for some

  1977. help and remembering

1978. that she too is a

  1979. sinner like you,

  1980. God is still

  1981. merciful and

  1982. patient.

  1983. When you reach the

  1984. end of yourself at

  1985. work because it's

  1986. full of sinners just

  1987. like you and you

  1988. want to collapse at

  1989. the end of the

  1990. day, remember that

  1991. God is still

  1992. merciful and

  1993. patient.

  1994. When you find

  1995. yourself like Jonah

  1996. grumbling at how

  1997. God is treating

  1998. your enemies better

  1999. than you think they

  2000. deserve, remember,

  2001. they are sinners just

2002. like you and God is

  2003. merciful and patient.

  2004. When you mess up

  2005. like Noah in a

  2006. drunken, shameful

  2007. state and create

  2008. opportunities for

  2009. others to sin because

  2010. they are sinners just

  2011. like you, remember

  2012. God is merciful and

  2013. patient.

  2014. But for how

  2015. long?

  2016. For how long?

  2017. How long will God

  2018. put up with the

  2019. repeated failures of

  2020. the people on the

  2021. earth?

  2022. Where is the

  2023. justice and the

  2024. accounting that he

  2025. said was needed in

  2026. verse 5?

  2027. for all the

  2028. innocent blood that

  2029. has been spilled

  2030. since that day?

  2031. Well, the good

  2032. news is that the

  2033. cycle of new

  2034. starts and the

  2035. cycle of new

  2036. sins has been

  2037. broken.

  2038. It has been broken

  2039. by Jesus.

  2040. Jesus was the

  2041. first new human

  2042. being since Adam

  2043. and Eve that came

  2044. without sin and

  2045. his new start.

  2046. The new start in

  2047. Jesus lasts because

  2048. it is untainted by

  2049. failure and fall.

  2050. So that means the

  2051. day of accounting is

  2052. today.

  2053. Jesus, who never

  2054. sinned, says turn

  2055. from your sin and

  2056. put your trust in

  2057. me so that your

  2058. sin is credited to

  2059. me and taken care

  2060. of by my perfect

  2061. sinless death on

  2062. the cross on your

  2063. behalf.

  2064. We can only fully

  2065. benefit from these

  2066. promises of God,

  2067. his promise,

  2068. covenantal promise

  2069. of mercy and

  2070. patience if we

  2071. have given our

  2072. sin over to

  2073. Jesus.

  2074. And if we have

  2075. done that, we

  2076. are now safe in

  2077. him from any

  2078. threat of

  2079. punishment or

  2080. judgment.

  2081. To understand the

  2082. urgency of this,

  2083. that the time of

  2084. accounting and

  2085. salvation is today,

2086. I want to finish by

  2087. reading from 2

    2 Peter 3 chapter mention

  2088. Peter chapter 3 in

  2089. the New Testament

  2090. and we will end

  2091. here.

  2092. 2 Peter chapter 3,

    2 Peter 3 chapter mention

2093. I think it says it

  2094. better and more

  2095. clearly than I

  2096. could try to

  2097. explain.

  2098. And we're going to

  2099. read from verse 3

  2100. onwards.

  2101. You're using the

  2102. church Bible, it's

  2103. page 1224.

  2104. And if you're here

  2105. this morning, for

  2106. those that follow

  2107. Jesus, you are

  2108. secure in the

  2109. mercy and

  2110. patience of God

  2111. because of Jesus.

  2112. For those that do

  2113. not follow Jesus,

  2114. the time of

  2115. mercy and

  2116. patience is

  2117. running out.

  2118. If you do not

  2119. believe, turn to

  2120. him today in

  2121. repentance and

  2122. faith.

  2123. 2 Peter chapter

    2 Peter 3:3

  2124. 3, verse 3

  2125. and down to

  2126. verse 15.

  2127. Above all, you

  2128. must understand

  2129. that in the

  2130. last days,

  2131. scoffers will

  2132. come scoffing

  2133. and following

  2134. their own evil

  2135. desires.

  2136. They will say,

  2137. where is this

  2138. coming, he

  2139. promised, ever

  2140. since our

  2141. ancestors died.

  2142. Everything goes

  2143. on as it has

  2144. since the

  2145. beginning of

  2146. creation.

  2147. But they

  2148. deliberately

  2149. forget that

  2150. long ago, by

  2151. God's word,

  2152. the heavens

  2153. came into

  2154. being and

  2155. the earth

  2156. was formed

  2157. out of

  2158. water and

  2159. by water.

  2160. For by these

  2161. waters also,

  2162. the world of

  2163. that time was

  2164. deluged and

  2165. destroyed.

  2166. By the same

  2167. word, the

  2168. present heavens

  2169. and earth are

  2170. reserved for

  2171. fire, being

  2172. kept for the

  2173. day of

  2174. judgment and

  2175. destruction of

  2176. the ungodly.

  2177. But do not

  2178. forget this one

  2179. thing, dear

  2180. friends.

  2181. with the

  2182. Lord, a

  2183. day is like

  2184. a thousand

  2185. years.

  2186. And a

  2187. thousand years

  2188. is like

  2189. a day.

  2190. The Lord is

  2191. not slow in

  2192. keeping his

  2193. promises,

  2194. some understand

  2195. slowness.

  2196. Instead, he

  2197. is patient

  2198. with you,

  2199. not wanting

  2200. anyone to

  2201. perish, but

  2202. everyone to

  2203. come to

  2204. repentance.

  2205. But the

  2206. day of the

  2207. Lord will

  2208. come like a

  2209. thief, the

  2210. heavens will

  2211. disappear with

  2212. a roar, the

  2213. elements will

  2214. be destroyed by

  2215. fire, and

  2216. the earth and

  2217. everything done

  2218. in it will be

  2219. laid bare.

  2220. Since

  2221. everything will

  2222. be destroyed in

  2223. this way, what

  2224. kind of people

  2225. ought you to

  2226. be?

  2227. Well, you

  2228. ought to live

  2229. holy and

  2230. godly lives as

  2231. you look forward

  2232. to the day of

  2233. God and speed

  2234. its coming.

  2235. that day will

  2236. bring about the

  2237. destruction of

  2238. the heavens by

  2239. fire, and the

  2240. elements will

  2241. melt in the

  2242. heat.

  2243. But in keeping

  2244. with his

  2245. promise, we

  2246. are looking

  2247. forward to a

  2248. new heaven and

  2249. a new earth

  2250. where righteousness

  2251. dwells.

  2252. So then,

  2253. dear friends,

  2254. since you are

  2255. looking forward

  2256. to this, make

  2257. every effort to

  2258. be found

  2259. spotless,

  2260. blameless,

  2261. and at

  2262. peace with

  2263. him.

  2264. Bear in

  2265. mind that

  2266. our Lord's

  2267. patience means

  2268. salvation, just

  2269. as our dear

  2270. brother Paul also

  2271. wrote to you with

  2272. the wisdom that

  2273. God gave

  2274. him.

  2275. Amen.

  2276. Let's pray.

  2277. For

  2278. Heavenly Father, we

  2279. thank you that you

  2280. covenant towards

  2281. us.

  2282. you give us

  2283. your promises,

  2284. and you care

  2285. for us, and

  2286. you help us,

  2287. Lord, through

  2288. our new

  2289. starts, to

  2290. always turn to

  2291. you in

  2292. repentance, to

  2293. cast aside our

  2294. sin and that

  2295. which would

  2296. entangle so

  2297. that we follow

  2298. Jesus closely.

  2299. We thank you

  2300. for peace with

  2301. you.

  2302. We thank you

  2303. for your

  2304. patience now

  2305. means opportunity

  2306. for salvation,

  2307. and Father, I

  2308. pray for

  2309. any that do

  2310. not know the

  2311. joy of

  2312. salvation, that

  2313. they would turn

  2314. to you this

  2315. day.

  2316. They would not

  2317. exhaust your

  2318. patience, but

  2319. that they would

  2320. turn to you

  2321. away from their

  2322. sin in faith

  2323. and put their

  2324. trust in you.

  2325. Be gracious,

  2326. Lord Jesus,

  2327. now and

  2328. forevermore.

  2329. Amen.

  2330. Amen.

  2331. Amen.

  2332. Amen.

  2333. Amen.

  2334. Amen.

  2335. Amen.

  2336. Amen.

  2337. Amen.

  2338. Amen.

  2339. Amen.
