  1. Matthew 15

  2. All our talks are recorded, so if you've missed any at any stage, you can follow up online.

  3. We're going to start reading from Matthew 15, verse 21, through to the end of the chapter.

    Matthew 15:21

  4. Matthew 15, starting at verse 21, and we'll read to the end of the chapter.

  5. Amen.

  6. So his disciples came to him and urged him, send her away, for she keeps crying out after us.

  7. He answered, I was sent only to the lost sheep of Israel.

  8. The woman came and knelt before him.

  9. Lord, help me, she said.

  10. Jesus replied, it is not right to take the children's bread and toss it to the dogs.

  11. Yes, it is, Lord, she said.

  12. Even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their master's table.

  13. Then Jesus said to her, woman, you have great faith.

  14. Your request is granted.

  15. And her daughter was healed at that moment.

  16. Jesus left there and went along to the Sea of Galilee.

  17. Then he went up on a mountainside and sat down.

  18. Great crowds came to him, bringing the lame, the blind, the crippled, the mute, and many others,

  19. and laid them at his feet, and he healed them.

  20. The people were amazed when they saw the mute speaking, the crippled made well,

  21. the lame walking, and the blind seeing.

  22. And they praised the God of Israel.

  23. Jesus called his disciples to him and said,

  24. I have compassion for these people.

  25. They have already been with me three days and have nothing to eat.

  26. I do not want to send them away hungry, or they may collapse on the way.

  27. His disciples answered,

  28. Where could we get enough bread in this remote place to feed such a crowd?

  29. How many loaves do you have?

  30. Jesus asked.

  31. Seven, they replied, and a few small fish.

  32. He told the crowd to sit down on the ground.

  33. Then he took the seven loaves and the fish,

  34. and when he had given thanks, he broke them and gave them to the disciples,

  35. and they in turn to the people.

  36. They all ate and were satisfied.

  37. Afterwards, the disciples picked up seven basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over.

  38. The number of those who ate was 4,000 men,

  39. not counting the women and children.

  40. After Jesus had sent the crowd away,

  41. he got into the boat and went to the vicinity of Magadan.

  42. Well, let's keep our Bibles open there in Matthew's Gospel,

  43. and we'll pray, and we'll ask for the Lord's help to understand his Word.

  44. Let's do that now.

  45. Father, again, we thank you for your Word.

  46. Lord, we thank you for the Gospel of Matthew,

  47. events and the life of Jesus written down,

  48. recorded for us to hear,

  49. to learn from today.

  50. And we pray that we may encounter Jesus afresh,

  51. that we may experience him,

  52. that we may know and understand why he has come,

  53. the response he looks for,

  54. and the future that we can have with him.

  55. So, Father, pour out your Spirit upon us generously.

  56. May not one of us leave this building

  57. without knowing Jesus more.

  58. That's our desire,

  59. and we ask for your help.

  60. And it's in Jesus' name we pray.

  61. Amen.

  62. Amen.

  63. Amen.

  64. Well, this morning we're going to look at three things from the text.

  65. We're going to see a shocking move,

  66. a surprising response,

  67. and a stunning vision.

  68. So get ready to be shocked, surprised, and stunned.

  69. First, a shocking move.

  70. Jesus moves towards sinners and sufferers.

  71. Jesus moves towards sinners and sufferers.

  72. Jesus is always on the move,

  73. as we've been reading through Matthew's Gospel,

  74. declaring the good news in towns and villages.

  75. But here in Matthew 15,

  76. Jesus steps across a line,

  77. one that shocks the disciples.

  78. He crosses not just geographical and political borders,

  79. but he crosses a spiritual and social barrier.

  80. Jesus moves towards sinners.

  81. Look at verse 21.

  82. Leaving that place.

  83. So Jesus is presently in Jewish territory

  84. around the Lake of Galilee.

  85. So he leaves that place,

  86. and Jesus withdrew to the region of Tyre and Sidon.

  87. Tyre and Sidon are north of Galilee,

  88. into pagan territory.

  89. So you could imagine what the disciples are thinking

  90. as Jesus makes his move.

  91. You can't possibly go there.

  92. They're outsiders and foreigners.

  93. That's where the sinners live.

  94. Now you may remember,

  95. we've met these places before Tyre and Sidon.

  96. Have a look back with me in Matthew's Gospel,

  97. chapter 11.

  98. Go back to chapter 11, verse 20,

  99. where we come across Tyre and Sidon.

  100. So again,

  101. Jesus has been preaching in the towns and villages,

  102. healing people.

  103. Verse 20,

  104. Then Jesus began to denounce the towns

  105. in which he did most of his miracles,

  106. because they did not repent.

  107. Woe to you, Chorazin!

  108. Woe to you, Bethsaida!

  109. This was the heartland of Israel,

  110. the religious Jewish folk.

  111. For if the miracles that were performed in you

  112. had been performed in Tyre and Sidon,

  113. if they had had the opportunity

  114. that you have had,

  115. they would have repented long ago

  116. in sackcloth and ashes.

  117. Let's go back to chapter 15.

  118. You see, Jesus' move is intentional

  119. and provocative.

  120. By crossing these borders,

  121. Jesus is saying,

  122. I have come for all people,

  123. no matter what their background is

  124. or what their history has been.

  125. I am calling people to repentance.

  126. I haven't come for those who think

  127. they are good, rule-keeping religious folk.

  128. But I've come for the irreligious people,

  129. the ones who don't keep the rules,

  130. the ones who cause chaos and mayhem,

  131. the ones with messy, broken lives.

  132. I've come to welcome sinners into my kingdom.

  133. For no one is off limits,

  134. no one is excluded,

  135. and no one is outside of my reach.

  136. So Jesus moves to sinners,

  137. but he also moves to sufferers.

  138. Because as Jesus enters this area,

  139. look what happens, verse 22.

  140. A Canaanite woman from that vicinity

  141. came to him crying out,

  142. Lord, son of David,

  143. have mercy on me.

  144. My daughter is demon-possessed

  145. and suffering terribly.

  146. Now everything about this event

  147. is making the disciples

  148. squirm uncomfortably.

  149. She's a Canaanite,

  150. a fierce enemy of the Jews.

  151. The whole history of the Canaanites

  152. has been about attacking

  153. the nation of Israel.

  154. And she's also a Gentile,

  155. a pagan.

  156. Religiously, she's unacceptable.

  157. She's excluded.

  158. And she's a woman.

  159. Because you don't go talking

  160. to such common people as women.

  161. You see, the Jews had very strict

  162. religious barriers

  163. to keep such people out.

  164. The kingdom, they thought,

  165. is not open to your kind.

  166. But rather than condemnation,

  167. Jesus displays amazing compassion.

  168. For Jesus, there is no line

  169. or barrier.

  170. He doesn't just see

  171. their spiritual need,

  172. but he sees their physical need.

  173. He empathises with her suffering.

  174. This reminds us, doesn't it,

  175. of why Jesus has come.

  176. He has come to renew

  177. this broken world

  178. and restore our disordered lives.

  179. He sees the great need

  180. of this woman.

  181. Most likely,

  182. she's without a husband.

  183. And her daughter

  184. is suffering

  185. with a demon spirit.

  186. And he moves out

  187. towards her,

  188. crossing all of the

  189. spiritual social barriers

  190. that there are.

  191. Look down at verse 28.

  192. Then Jesus said to her,

  193. Woman, you of great faith,

  194. your request is granted.

  195. And her daughter

  196. was healed

  197. at that moment.

  198. This is who Jesus is.

  199. You see,

  200. he is not repulsed

  201. by our sin.

  202. He's not immune

  203. to the sufferings

  204. that we go through.

  205. The very things

  206. that push people

  207. away from us,

  208. those who struggle,

  209. we struggle to forgive,

  210. those we find it hard

  211. to care for,

  212. these are the people

  213. Jesus is drawn to.

  214. The kind of people

  215. we keep at arm's length

  216. because of their sinful past

  217. and their struggling life,

  218. Jesus embraces them.

  219. So whatever your sin

  220. may be today,

  221. whatever suffering

  222. you may be experiencing,

  223. let's understand this,

  224. you are not

  225. outside the reach

  226. of God

  227. or off limits

  228. to the mercy

  229. of God.

  230. Jesus doesn't avoid

  231. sinners and sufferers.

  232. Jesus moves

  233. towards

  234. people like us,

  235. people who sin

  236. and people who suffer.

  237. That is

  238. good news.

  239. So,

  240. the shocking move.

  241. second,

  242. a surprising

  243. response.

  244. Jesus commends

  245. those with

  246. great faith.

  247. He commends

  248. those with

  249. great faith.

  250. Jesus'

  251. interaction

  252. with this woman

  253. is full

  254. of surprises

  255. and we're just

  256. going to focus

  257. on two of them.

  258. First,

  259. Jesus responds

  260. with silence.

  261. We can imagine

  262. the scene there

  263. as this woman

  264. comes to Jesus.

  265. She's loud

  266. and desperate.

  267. She doesn't care,

  268. does she?

  269. Verse 22,

  270. Lord,

  271. son of David,

  272. have mercy on me.

  273. My daughter,

  274. my daughter,

  275. she's suffering

  276. terribly.

  277. How does Jesus

  278. respond?

  279. respond?

  280. Verse 23,

  281. Jesus didn't

  282. answer

  283. a word.

  284. Silence.

  285. Nothing.

  286. I mean,

  287. this isn't the

  288. Jesus we know,

  289. is it?

  290. It's almost

  291. as if Jesus

  292. is ignoring

  293. her.

  294. But we

  295. mustn't

  296. interpret

  297. the silence

  298. as exclusion

  299. and rejection.

  300. Something that

  301. the disciples

  302. jumped to.

  303. Look at the

  304. rest of

  305. verse 23.

  306. So his

  307. disciples

  308. came to him

  309. and urged him,

  310. send her

  311. away,

  312. for she

  313. keeps crying

  314. out after

  315. us.

  316. They want

  317. nothing to

  318. do with

  319. a pagan

  320. outsider.

  321. No,

  322. Jesus is

  323. silent

  324. because he

  325. wants to

  326. teach the

  327. disciples

  328. and us

  329. that this

  330. woman is

  331. not only

  332. welcome,

  333. but she's

  334. an example

  335. to us

  336. all of

  337. how we

  338. should

  339. respond

  340. to

  341. Jesus.

  342. Of course,

  343. Jesus

  344. could have

  345. answered

  346. her

  347. immediately.

  348. He could

  349. have healed

  350. her daughter

  351. straight away.

  352. No problem.

  353. His delay

  354. is that he

  355. doesn't care,

  356. or is not

  357. that he

  358. doesn't care,

  359. but his

  360. concern is

  361. that we

  362. would learn.

  363. So Jesus

  364. responds with

  365. silence.

  366. And second,

  367. Jesus responds

  368. with

  369. commendation.

  370. You see,

  371. when Jesus

  372. does eventually

  373. break his

  374. silence,

  375. look at what

  376. he says,

  377. verse 24.

  378. He answered,

  379. I was

  380. sent only

  381. to the

  382. lost sheep

  383. of Israel.

  384. Well,

  385. that was

  386. true,

  387. wasn't it?

  388. Jesus came

  389. for those

  390. to whom

  391. he was

  392. sent,

  393. the people

  394. of Israel.

  395. But Jesus

  396. had also

  397. come for

  398. the nations,

  399. for all

  400. people.

  401. And that's

  402. what he

  403. wants the

  404. disciples to

  405. learn.

  406. He wants

  407. them to

  408. see how

  409. this woman,

  410. an outsider,

  411. how she

  412. responds.

  413. So verse 25,

  414. the woman

  415. came and

  416. knelt before

  417. him.

  418. Lord,

  419. help me,

  420. she said.

  421. It's a face

  422. that is

  423. desperately

  424. dependent on

  425. Jesus.

  426. It's a

  427. recognition that

  428. without the

  429. intervention of

  430. Jesus in

  431. my life.

  432. I am

  433. lost.

  434. I've got

  435. no hope.

  436. Lord,

  437. help me.

  438. But Jesus

  439. is still

  440. not ready

  441. to act.

  442. He wants

  443. us to

  444. grasp the

  445. kind of

  446. faith that

  447. he commends.

  448. Verse 26,

  449. he replied,

  450. it is not

  451. right to

  452. take the

  453. children's

  454. bread and

  455. toss it to

  456. the dogs.

  457. Well,

  458. what on

  459. earth is

  460. that about?

  461. Well,

  462. Jews referred

  463. to outsiders

  464. like this

  465. woman as

  466. dogs.

  467. It was

  468. insulting,

  469. racist,

  470. misogynistic.

  471. That's why

  472. the disciples

  473. were so

  474. quick to

  475. tell Jesus,

  476. send her

  477. away,

  478. we don't

  479. want her

  480. kind around

  481. us.

  482. We don't

  483. want anything

  484. to do

  485. with her.

  486. So Jesus

  487. as if kind

  488. of goes

  489. along with

  490. it and

  491. confronts

  492. her with

  493. this view

  494. as if to

  495. say,

  496. what are

  497. you going

  498. to do

  499. about that?

  500. Is it

  501. not right

  502. that you

  503. take the

  504. children's

  505. bread and

  506. toss it

  507. to the

  508. dogs?

  509. Is it

  510. right to

  511. take the

  512. Messiah who

  513. came for

  514. the Jews

  515. and give

  516. him to

  517. the Gentiles?

  518. Her

  519. response is

  520. just

  521. brilliant.

  522. Verse 27.

  523. Yes it

  524. is Lord,

  525. it is

  526. right.

  527. Even the

  528. dogs eat

  529. the crumbs

  530. that fall

  531. from the

  532. master's

  533. table.

  534. Just as

  535. dogs get

  536. to eat the

  537. scraps from

  538. their master,

  539. so we

  540. will receive

  541. from the

  542. Jews what

  543. they don't

  544. want.

  545. I know

  546. I don't

  547. deserve

  548. Jesus the

  549. Messiah.

  550. I know

  551. I'm not

  552. worthy.

  553. I have

  554. nothing to

  555. offer.

  556. I have

  557. nothing to

  558. bring.

  559. I'm a

  560. sinner and

  561. a sufferer,

  562. but I

  563. desperately

  564. need you.

  565. Her

  566. faith is

  567. urgent,

  568. but it's

  569. humble.

  570. She sees

  571. not how

  572. great she

  573. is,

  574. but how

  575. great and

  576. gracious

  577. that Jesus

  578. is.

  579. And so

  580. verse 28,

  581. Jesus said

  582. to her,

  583. Woman,

  584. you have

  585. great faith.

  586. Far from

  587. ignoring her,

  588. Jesus

  589. commends

  590. her,

  591. this is

  592. the kind

  593. of faith

  594. that I

  595. seek from

  596. all people,

  597. people who

  598. see their

  599. desperate need

  600. and run

  601. to Jesus

  602. urgently,

  603. but humbly.

  604. Now we've

  605. got to be

  606. careful how

  607. we interpret

  608. this great

  609. faith.

  610. It's not

  611. the size

  612. or measure

  613. of her

  614. faith that

  615. Jesus

  616. commends,

  617. but the

  618. greatness of

  619. the one in

  620. whom she

  621. trusts.

  622. You see,

  623. it's not

  624. about how

  625. great I

  626. am,

  627. but seeing

  628. how great

  629. my sin

  630. is,

  631. and how

  632. great Jesus

  633. is to

  634. forgive.

  635. It's not

  636. about my

  637. great ability

  638. or strength

  639. to get

  640. through

  641. things in

  642. life,

  643. but seeing

  644. how helpless

  645. and hopeless

  646. we are.

  647. It's running

  648. to Jesus

  649. as our

  650. saving king

  651. and crying

  652. out urgently

  653. but humbly,

  654. Lord,

  655. help me.

  656. This is

  657. the right

  658. response for

  659. sinners and

  660. sufferers.

  661. This is the

  662. kind of faith

  663. that Jesus

  664. commends.

  665. of the

  666. kingdom.

  667. So we

  668. have a

  669. shock,

  670. we have

  671. a surprise,

  672. and we

  673. have a

  674. stunning or

  675. spectacular

  676. vision.

  677. Jesus

  678. gives us

  679. a foretaste

  680. of heaven.

  681. You see,

  682. as Jesus

  683. moves out

  684. towards

  685. sinners and

  686. sufferers,

  687. as he

  688. welcomes

  689. those with

  690. faith,

  691. so Jesus

  692. is giving

  693. us a

  694. foretaste

  695. of the

  696. kingdom to

  697. come.

  698. And the

  699. feeding of

  700. the 4,000

  701. shows us

  702. this.

  703. First,

  704. look at the

  705. crowds that

  706. come.

  707. Once again,

  708. verse 29,

  709. Jesus is

  710. on the

  711. move.

  712. And verse

  713. 30,

  714. great crowds

  715. come to

  716. him.

  717. Now,

  718. you may

  719. remember we've

  720. come across a

  721. similar event

  722. like this,

  723. haven't we?

  724. Just last

  725. week in

  726. chapter 14,

  727. there it

  728. was the

  729. feeding of

  730. the 5,000.

  731. But apart

  732. from some

  733. minor differences,

  734. what we

  735. read in

  736. chapter 14

  737. and chapter

  738. 15 are

  739. almost

  740. identical.

  741. Both have

  742. large crowds,

  743. both is

  744. about an

  745. event where

  746. people have

  747. no food,

  748. Jesus

  749. miraculously

  750. feeds

  751. everyone

  752. who's

  753. there,

  754. there's

  755. plenty

  756. left over

  757. in the

  758. baskets,

  759. and they

  760. all go

  761. home

  762. satisfied.

  763. The same

  764. kind of

  765. story.

  766. However,

  767. there's one

  768. significant

  769. difference.

  770. The crowds.

  771. Not the

  772. number of

  773. people who

  774. are present,

  775. but the

  776. identity of

  777. the people

  778. who are

  779. present.

  780. You see,

  781. in chapter

  782. 14,

  783. it was all

  784. about Jesus

  785. down by

  786. the lake

  787. in Jewish

  788. territory.

  789. But here

  790. in chapter

  791. 15,

  792. they're all

  793. from a

  794. Gentile

  795. pagan

  796. background.

  797. They're

  798. still

  799. outsiders.

  800. Look at

  801. the response

  802. of the

  803. people as

  804. they gather.

  805. Look at

  806. the end

  807. of verse

  808. 31.

  809. They

  810. praised

  811. the God

  812. of Israel.

  813. They're

  814. obviously

  815. outsiders,

  816. but they've

  817. come to

  818. have an

  819. encounter

  820. with Jesus,

  821. God's

  822. king.

  823. So in

  824. praising

  825. the God

  826. of Israel,

  827. they are

  828. declaring

  829. that he

  830. is their

  831. God too.

  832. Once again,

  833. Jesus is

  834. showing that

  835. he's come

  836. for all

  837. people,

  838. regardless

  839. of what

  840. their

  841. background

  842. or social

  843. situation

  844. is.

  845. His

  846. desire is

  847. to bring

  848. people from

  849. all nations

  850. to himself,

  851. that they

  852. might worship

  853. him.

  854. In fact,

  855. the sheer

  856. number of

  857. people who

  858. are gathered,

  859. look at

  860. verse 38,

  861. which doesn't

  862. include all

  863. the women

  864. and children

  865. who are

  866. there,

  867. is a

  868. foretaste

  869. of heaven.

  870. It's a

  871. picture of

  872. the crowds,

  873. the thousands

  874. that are

  875. beyond number

  876. of sinners

  877. and sufferers

  878. who've

  879. responded in

  880. faith and

  881. will be

  882. gathered

  883. together

  884. in God's

  885. eternal

  886. kingdom.

  887. Well,

  888. you say,

  889. how is there

  890. a vision

  891. there about

  892. God's

  893. eternal

  894. kingdom?

  895. Well,

  896. let's

  897. look at

  898. the feast

  899. that is

  900. to come.

  901. You see,

  902. as the

  903. crowds

  904. gather,

  905. Jesus

  906. begins to

  907. feed them,

  908. doesn't he?

  909. He takes

  910. a bit of

  911. bread and

  912. a few

  913. fish and

  914. he feeds

  915. these thousands

  916. of people

  917. before him

  918. and they're

  919. all satisfied.

  920. But Jesus

  921. isn't just

  922. showing off.

  923. He isn't

  924. just being

  925. generous.

  926. Jesus

  927. is giving

  928. us a

  929. vision

  930. of what

  931. is to

  932. come.

  933. You see,

  934. one of the

  935. ways the

  936. Bible looks

  937. forward to

  938. heaven

  939. is a

  940. feast,

  941. a

  942. celebratory

  943. meal that

  944. includes people

  945. from all

  946. nations

  947. rejoicing in

  948. their salvation.

  949. Isaiah

  950. the prophet

  951. gives us a

  952. foretaste of

  953. what this is

  954. like.

  955. Keep your

  956. finger in

  957. Matthew 15

  958. and let's

  959. go back to

  960. Isaiah

    Isaiah 25 chapter mention

  961. chapter 25.

  962. Isaiah

    Isaiah 25 chapter mention

  963. chapter 25.

  964. Here the

  965. prophet Isaiah

  966. is giving

  967. a foretaste,

  968. a picture

  969. of the

  970. eternal kingdom

  971. to come.

  972. Let's pick it

  973. up, chapter

  974. 25 and

  975. verse 6.

  976. let's read

  977. from verse 6.

  978. On this

  979. mountain,

  980. the Lord

  981. Almighty will

  982. prepare a

  983. feast of

  984. rich food

  985. for all

  986. peoples,

  987. a banquet

  988. of aged

  989. wine,

  990. the best

  991. of meats

  992. and the

  993. finest of

  994. wines.

  995. On this

  996. mountain he

  997. will destroy

  998. the shroud

  999. that enfolds

  1000. all people,

  1001. the sheet

  1002. that covers

  1003. all nations.

  1004. What's that?

  1005. Well,

  1006. verse 8,

  1007. he will

  1008. swallow up

  1009. death

  1010. forever.

  1011. The

  1012. sovereign

  1013. Lord will

  1014. wipe away

  1015. the tears

  1016. from all

  1017. faces.

  1018. He will

  1019. remove his

  1020. people's

  1021. disgrace

  1022. from all

  1023. the earth.

  1024. The

  1025. Lord has

  1026. spoken.

  1027. In that

  1028. day they

  1029. will say,

  1030. surely this

  1031. is our

  1032. God,

  1033. we trusted

  1034. in him

  1035. and he

  1036. saved us.

  1037. This is

  1038. the Lord,

  1039. we trusted

  1040. in him.

  1041. Let us

  1042. rejoice and

  1043. be glad

  1044. in his

  1045. salvation.

  1046. salvation.

  1047. Let's

  1048. go back

  1049. to Matthew

  1050. 15.

  1051. Isaiah's

  1052. vision

  1053. is of a

  1054. mountain.

  1055. Picture it

  1056. in your

  1057. minds,

  1058. where people

  1059. from all

  1060. nations are

  1061. gathered and

  1062. people are

  1063. healed and

  1064. death is

  1065. destroyed.

  1066. Their

  1067. relationship

  1068. with God

  1069. restored and

  1070. they celebrate

  1071. with rich

  1072. food.

  1073. it's a

  1074. spectacular

  1075. vision.

  1076. And now

  1077. look what we

  1078. have here in

  1079. Matthew 15.

  1080. Look carefully

  1081. at what Jesus

  1082. does.

  1083. Look at

  1084. verse 29.

  1085. Where does

  1086. Jesus go?

  1087. Up the

  1088. mountain.

  1089. What happens

  1090. in verse 30?

  1091. great crowds

  1092. come to

  1093. him.

  1094. Verse 31.

  1095. People are

  1096. healed and

  1097. restored.

  1098. The lame

  1099. walk, the

  1100. blind see.

  1101. Verse 36.

  1102. What does

  1103. Jesus do for

  1104. them?

  1105. He provides

  1106. a meal.

  1107. Okay, it's

  1108. just fish and

  1109. bread.

  1110. It's a long

  1111. way off the

  1112. best of meats

  1113. and finest

  1114. of wines.

  1115. but,

  1116. verse 37,

  1117. they are

  1118. all

  1119. satisfied.

  1120. Jesus is

  1121. not only

  1122. highlighting the

  1123. spectacular

  1124. vision of

  1125. Isaiah,

  1126. Jesus is

  1127. saying, I

  1128. am the one

  1129. who's come to

  1130. fulfil this

  1131. vision.

  1132. I am the

  1133. one who

  1134. makes all

  1135. of this

  1136. possible.

  1137. What I am

  1138. doing on the

  1139. mountain is

  1140. just a

  1141. foretaste

  1142. of my

  1143. glorious

  1144. eternal

  1145. kingdom.

  1146. You see,

  1147. for sinners

  1148. and sufferers,

  1149. the best is

  1150. yet to

  1151. come.

  1152. Yes, Jesus

  1153. healed all

  1154. these people,

  1155. but what

  1156. would happen

  1157. to them?

  1158. Well, they

  1159. would all die

  1160. at some

  1161. stage,

  1162. wouldn't

  1163. they?

  1164. Probably

  1165. through another

  1166. disease or

  1167. sickness.

  1168. Yes, Jesus

  1169. fed all of

  1170. these thousands

  1171. of people,

  1172. but within a

  1173. couple of

  1174. days they

  1175. would wake

  1176. up with

  1177. hungry

  1178. bellies

  1179. needing to

  1180. be fed

  1181. again.

  1182. You see,

  1183. what Jesus

  1184. was doing

  1185. was,

  1186. was just

  1187. temporary.

  1188. Jesus

  1189. came for

  1190. something

  1191. greater,

  1192. something

  1193. eternal.

  1194. He came

  1195. to deal

  1196. with all

  1197. of my

  1198. sin and

  1199. to destroy

  1200. the pain

  1201. of death.

  1202. He died

  1203. on the

  1204. cross and

  1205. he rose

  1206. from the

  1207. grave so

  1208. that I

  1209. might share

  1210. in his

  1211. eternal

  1212. kingdom.

  1213. Don't

  1214. settle for

  1215. what is

  1216. past.

  1217. Set your

  1218. eyes on

  1219. the vision

  1220. to come.

  1221. God

  1222. will

  1223. come.

  1224. You see,

  1225. here we

  1226. are being

  1227. shown

  1228. Jesus who

  1229. moves out

  1230. towards

  1231. sinners and

  1232. sufferers.

  1233. He welcomes

  1234. all who

  1235. respond in

  1236. urgent but

  1237. humble

  1238. faith.

  1239. And he

  1240. promises us

  1241. a seat

  1242. at the

  1243. table in

  1244. his eternal

  1245. kingdom.

  1246. A kingdom

  1247. where sin

  1248. and suffering

  1249. will be

  1250. no more.

  1251. and he

  1252. will wipe

  1253. the tears

  1254. from our

  1255. eyes and

  1256. we will

  1257. be satisfied

  1258. forever.

  1259. No longer

  1260. living by

  1261. faith but

  1262. feasting

  1263. forever with

  1264. the king.

  1265. What a

  1266. shock.

  1267. What a

  1268. surprise.

  1269. What a

  1270. stunning vision

  1271. for all

  1272. who run

  1273. to Jesus.

  1274. Let's pray

  1275. together.

  1276. our

  1277. Father God,

  1278. we come

  1279. just as we

  1280. are today.

  1281. You see

  1282. into our

  1283. hearts,

  1284. you know

  1285. our sin,

  1286. you know

  1287. our mess,

  1288. some of

  1289. it is

  1290. public,

  1291. some of

  1292. it is

  1293. desperately

  1294. secret.

  1295. You see

  1296. our lives

  1297. and you

  1298. see our

  1299. suffering.

  1300. Some of

  1301. that is

  1302. very public

  1303. too and

  1304. people know

  1305. how we

  1306. hurt and

  1307. how we

  1308. struggle.

  1309. But yet

  1310. we know

  1311. that some

  1312. of our

  1313. suffering

  1314. is deep

  1315. down

  1316. and no

  1317. one knows

  1318. the torment

  1319. that we

  1320. may face.

  1321. How

  1322. wonderful

  1323. to know

  1324. today

  1325. that Jesus

  1326. welcomes us

  1327. as we

  1328. are.

  1329. Come to

  1330. Jesus,

  1331. receive

  1332. forgiveness,

  1333. receive that

  1334. healing,

  1335. that

  1336. restoration.

  1337. salvation.

  1338. Come to

  1339. him and

  1340. know a

  1341. glorious

  1342. future,

  1343. urgently

  1344. and humbly

  1345. depending on

  1346. him in

  1347. faith.

  1348. Father,

  1349. help us

  1350. to go,

  1351. knowing that

  1352. it is you

  1353. alone who

  1354. will satisfy

  1355. us completely.

  1356. Help us

  1357. to walk

  1358. by faith

  1359. and not

  1360. by sight

  1361. as we

  1362. look forward

  1363. to that

  1364. wonderful

  1365. feast,

  1366. being seated

  1367. at the

  1368. king's

  1369. table,

  1370. served by

  1371. the Lord

  1372. Jesus

  1373. himself,

  1374. sharing

  1375. in a

  1376. wonderful

  1377. meal

  1378. to celebrate

  1379. our

  1380. homecoming,

  1381. our

  1382. salvation.

  1383. Thank you

  1384. for what we

  1385. have in

  1386. Jesus today.

  1387. Amen.

  1388. But we're

  1389. going to

  1390. sing a

  1391. celebratory

  1392. song.

  1393. There's a

  1394. higher throne

  1395. than all

  1396. this world

  1397. has known

  1398. where

  1399. faithful

  1400. ones

  1401. from every

  1402. tongue

  1403. that welcome

  1404. from every

  1405. nation

  1406. those who

  1407. have faith

  1408. in Christ.

  1409. I invite

  1410. you to

  1411. stand and

  1412. sing and

  1413. if you

  1414. are trusting

  1415. in the

  1416. Lord,

  1417. you will

  1418. want to

  1419. sing this

  1420. out in

  1421. praise and

  1422. thanksgiving.

  1423. Let's

  1424. sing together.

  1425. Amen.

  1426. Amen.

  1427. 口 dele's

  1428. water

  1429. There is a

  1430. higher throne

  1431. That all

  1432. thoughts

  1433. of us

  1434. And never
