  1. Genesis chapter 22 and we're going to read the first 19 verses and then Sam will be up.

    Genesis 22 chapter mention

  2. That's the preacher's son.

  3. Genesis chapter 22 verse 1.

    Genesis 22:1

  4. Sometime later God tested Abraham.

  5. He said to him, Abraham, here I am, he replied.

  6. Then God said, take your son, your only son, whom you love, Isaac, and go to the region of Moriah.

  7. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on a mountain that I will show you.

  8. Early the next morning Abraham got up and loaded his donkey.

  9. He took with him two of his servants and his son Isaac.

  10. When he had cut enough wood for the burnt offering, he set out for the place God had told him about.

  11. On the third day, Abraham looked up and saw the place in the distance.

  12. He said to his servants, stay here with the donkey while I and the boy go over there.

  13. We will worship and then we will come back to you.

  14. Abraham took the wood for the burnt offering and placed it on his son Isaac and he himself carried the fire and the knife.

  15. As the two of them went on together, Isaac spoke up and said to his father Abraham,

  16. Father, yes, my son, Abraham replied, the fire and wood are here, Isaac said.

  17. But where is the lamb for the burnt offering?

  18. Abraham answered, God himself will provide the lamb for the burnt offering, my son.

  19. And the two of them went on together.

  20. When they reached the place God had told him about, Abraham built an altar there and arranged the wood on it.

  21. He bound his son Isaac and laid him on the altar on top of the wood.

  22. Then he reached out his hand and took the knife to slay his son.

  23. But the angel of the Lord called out to him from heaven, Abraham, Abraham, here I am, he replied.

  24. Do not lay a hand on the boy, he said.

  25. Do not do anything to him.

  26. Now I know that you fear God because you have not withheld from me your son, your only son.

  27. Abraham looked up and there in a ticket he saw a ram caught by its horns.

  28. He went over and took the ram and sacrificed it as a burnt offering instead of his son.

  29. So Abraham called that place the Lord will provide.

  30. And to this day it is said on the mountain of the Lord it will be provided.

  31. The angel of the Lord called to Abraham from heaven a second time and said,

  32. I swear by myself, declares the Lord, that because you have done this and have not withheld your son, your only son,

  33. I will surely bless you and make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and as the sand on the seashore.

  34. Your descendants will take possession of the cities of their enemies and through your offspring,

  35. all nations on earth will be blessed because you have obeyed me.

  36. Then Abraham returned to his servants and they set off together for Beersheba and Abraham stayed in Beersheba.

  37. Thanks, Sam.

  38. Thanks, Connor.

  39. Good morning, everybody.

  40. Why don't we just pray before we start and ask for God's help.

  41. Lord, we come to this passage this morning, which in many ways is difficult to understand and get our heads around.

  42. Lord, I just pray for your help for all of us now to hear what you want us to hear from this passage.

  43. And anything that is not from you, Lord, that we forget that.

  44. But all the truth that you want us to hear, Lord, that you would drill it deep down into our hearts

  45. and that you would encourage us this morning to persevere in faith, looking to Jesus.

  46. And it's in his name we pray. Amen.

  47. Amen.

  48. Well, in verse 1, it says that God tested Abraham.

  49. And as much as we don't like to admit that God does this, it is true.

  50. And this is no spellings test or driving test or even IQ test.

  51. Now, this is an everything-on-the-line kind of test.

  52. God had promised Abraham descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky

  53. and that through him all nations would be blessed.

  54. Only when Abraham was laid on in years did God finally give the son on whom all of the promises would rest.

  55. And now that Isaac is here, God turns around and asks Abraham to sacrifice the son that he waited 100 years to love.

  56. It's jarring. It's shocking.

  57. There's nothing safe or secure or happy about this test.

  58. Rather, it's painful and confusing, with God offering no reasons why at the outset.

  59. If Isaac dies, so does the promise of salvation.

  60. It throws Abraham's life into crisis.

  61. And it offends those of us, on the one hand,

  62. who suppose that God wants us to have lives of wealth, security and happiness free from any trouble.

  63. And on the other hand, it offends those of us who suppose that God is not in any way in control of our suffering.

  64. And the two main questions that arise out of this test are this.

  65. Why does God allow us to be tested like this?

  66. And number two, how on earth can we persevere in our faith amid pain and confusion when God seems to be against us?

  67. Well, by walking with Abraham through this trial,

  68. we're going to see that number one,

  69. God tests us to grow our faith in him,

  70. in his promises and in his son's work on the cross.

  71. And that number two,

  72. we can persevere through times of suffering and testing

  73. by putting our faith in Jesus,

  74. who trusted and obeyed perfectly amid the ultimate test of his faith.

  75. And I pray that God's word today would challenge your perspective

  76. and mine on testing as I've been doing all week,

  77. and that you would place your faith on the rock,

  78. solid truth of what Jesus has already done for you

  79. and what he's promised to do for you in the future.

  80. So we're going to look,

  81. just walk through this narrative by looking at three simple things.

  82. God's purpose in our testing,

  83. God's promises in our testing,

  84. and God's presence in our testing.

  85. First, God's purpose in our testing.

  86. And the first thing that we need to establish in verse one,

  87. that it's clearly God who ordains Abraham's testing.

  88. Let's not try and make any excuses for God here.

  89. He is sovereign and in control of Abraham's trouble.

  90. And that's a tough pill to swallow.

  91. I've wrestled with this.

  92. How could God willingly throw Abraham's life into chaos

  93. and allow him to experience the most excruciating pain

  94. while still being loving?

  95. And this is not a once-off in the Bible, by the way,

  96. if you just think it's just this instance.

  97. No, it's all over the Bible.

  98. We look at the example of Job.

  99. In his case, Satan brings terrible affliction upon his life.

  100. But Satan has to ask God's permission to do so first.

  101. And he can only do as much as God allows him to do

  102. in order for God to achieve his purposes in Job's life

  103. through the calamity.

  104. In support of this, Romans 8.28 says this,

  105. And we know that in all things,

  106. God works for the good of those who love him,

  107. who have been called according to his purpose.

  108. So, if that is true,

  109. if God is ultimately in control over all things,

  110. then that has to mean our suffering and pain also.

  111. And that is incredibly hard to accept.

  112. Stay with me, though.

  113. This narrative is going to show us

  114. that Abraham's suffering is not meaningless,

  115. and neither is yours or mine.

  116. But what is that purpose, according to today's text?

  117. Well, later we'll see that God is definitely not testing Abraham

  118. to punish him for the mistakes that he'd previously made in his life.

  119. And believe me, he'd made some big ones.

  120. Nor is God trying to catch him out

  121. or setting him up for some sort of failure.

  122. No.

  123. No.

  124. In this text, we learn that God tests us

  125. because he wants to grow our faith.

  126. How could that be so?

  127. Well, on any of the rare times in my life

  128. that I have strayed into a gym,

  129. the trainers there have explained to me

  130. that by testing my muscle,

  131. by putting it under strain,

  132. and feeling the burn, that pain,

  133. that is how I can build stronger muscle,

  134. if only I did that more.

  135. And it's a picture of how God tests our faith.

  136. He puts it under strain

  137. through trials and suffering,

  138. and it's painful.

  139. But if we keep trusting him,

  140. it will build stronger faith in him.

  141. We can't even imagine the depths of despair

  142. Abraham felt walking that road,

  143. knowing he would have to somehow kill his son.

  144. Every fiber in his being

  145. would have fought against it.

  146. But because of this testing experience,

  147. Abraham throws all his faith

  148. and all his hope

  149. on the promises of God.

  150. Look at verse 8,

  151. where he tells his son

  152. that God will provide the lamb,

  153. even though Abraham doesn't have a clue how.

  154. He becomes more and more dependent on God

  155. and less and less dependent on himself.

  156. God uses testing and suffering

  157. to make us realize our utter need for him.

  158. I don't know about you,

  159. but when everything's going great in my life,

  160. my sinful heart slips into self-dependency.

  161. And we quickly lose our focus on God,

  162. and we trust more and more on ourselves,

  163. and not on him.

  164. You see, in doing the very thing

  165. that brings Abraham to his knees,

  166. God is saving him.

  167. He's for Abraham

  168. when it seems that he's against him.

  169. He wants Abraham to pass the test.

  170. He's not trying to catch him out.

  171. He's trying to grow his faith.

  172. Listen to James 1, verses 2-4.

    James 1:2–4

  173. You can read it on the board as well.

  174. Consider it pure joy,

  175. my brothers and sisters,

  176. whenever you face trials of many kinds,

  177. because you know that the testing of your faith

  178. produces perseverance.

  179. Let perseverance finish its work

  180. so that you may be mature and complete,

  181. not lacking anything.

  182. You know, like the song says,

  183. who holds our faith when fears arise?

  184. Who stands above the stormy trial?

  185. Who sends the waves that bring us nigh

  186. unto the shore,

  187. the rock of Christ?

  188. I think that's true.

  189. I love that.

  190. Friends, in your times of testing,

  191. don't let your first prayer be

  192. that God would remove the trouble from you.

  193. Pray first that God would save you

  194. from trusting in yourself

  195. and use whatever means necessary

  196. to grow your faith,

  197. even if that means

  198. continuing in this hardship and testing.

  199. He tests us because he loves us.

  200. So we know God's purpose in our testing

  201. is to grow our faith.

  202. But what is that faith resting in?

  203. Here's a second point.

  204. It's about God's promises in our testing.

  205. So in verses 3 to 9,

  206. we follow Abraham on the road

  207. to the mountain where he's going to sacrifice his son.

  208. And what keeps Abraham walking forward in obedience here

  209. through this excruciatingly painful testing?

  210. Why doesn't he just give up

  211. amidst the anguish

  212. and all the unanswered questions of the situation?

  213. I think we can see Abraham does two simple things

  214. which we can also use to persevere

  215. through our times of deepest suffering and testing.

  216. Number one, he remembers the promises.

  217. And two, he walks forward in the promises.

  218. Look at verse 5,

  219. where Abraham tells his servants,

  220. Stay here with the donkey

  221. while I and the boy go over there.

  222. We will worship

  223. and then we will come back to you.

  224. How can Abraham have that confidence

  225. of bringing Isaac back down that mountain alive?

  226. Well, simply, Abraham remembered God's promise

  227. that Isaac would be the father of many nations.

  228. So the first step in our times of testing and suffering

  229. is to just remember the promises

  230. that God has already spoken to us.

  231. These promises are enough

  232. for you to navigate any trial

  233. that you will ever face in your life.

  234. So are you giving God the chance

  235. to speak his promises to you in his word?

  236. I can hear plenty of empty promises

  237. of things the world will give me.

  238. Yet so often I can't find time

  239. to listen to what my soul really needs.

  240. God's true promises.

  241. Simply put,

  242. we are missing out on real life,

  243. on real hope,

  244. when we leave out his word.

  245. So make it a priority.

  246. Listen to it on your walk in the evening.

  247. Hear it explained on a good Christian podcast.

  248. Write out your favorite promises.

  249. Stick them on the walls of your home.

  250. Fill your life with God's promises to you.

  251. And secondly,

  252. walk forward in those promises.

  253. It wasn't enough for Abraham

  254. to simply know in his head

  255. what God had promised.

  256. In verses 3 to 9,

  257. he showed his faith in the promise

  258. by living like he believed it was true.

  259. Here's another way of saying it.

  260. Obedience flows out of faith

  261. in God's promises.

  262. Now the writer of the book of Hebrews

  263. kind of fills us in

  264. on what Abraham was actually thinking

  265. as he walked up the mountain.

  266. So it's pretty cool to actually read this

  267. 2,000 years later

  268. as this writer is speaking.

  269. And this is what he says.

  270. You can read it on the board as well.

  271. Abraham reasoned

  272. that God could even raise Isaac

  273. from the dead.

  274. That's what he was thinking.

  275. Here's a paraphrase of Abraham's thoughts.

  276. God has asked me

  277. to sacrifice my son.

  278. But God has also promised

  279. that my son will be

  280. the father of many nations.

  281. Because God cannot break his promise,

  282. the only logical conclusion

  283. is that after I have killed him,

  284. God's going to raise Isaac from the dead

  285. and we'll walk down the mountain together.

  286. Now that's Abraham walking forward

  287. in the promise.

  288. It's nothing spectacular.

  289. It's not some massive faith

  290. that only biblical heroes can have.

  291. No.

  292. Only a small, simple faith

  293. is required

  294. to cling to a massive promise.

  295. To say,

  296. Okay God,

  297. I'm taking you at your word.

  298. And I'm going to live my life

  299. in the light of it.

  300. It's faith and obedience.

  301. They're like two sides of the same coin.

  302. You can't have one without the other.

  303. Obeying God means

  304. knowing God's promises

  305. and living in the light of them.

  306. It's asking yourself,

  307. if God's promises are true,

  308. then how does that impact

  309. how I live this day?

  310. A couple examples.

  311. When I'm tempted

  312. to hold my money too tightly

  313. and worry about not having enough,

  314. I can choose to believe

  315. God's promise to me

  316. in Matthew 6,

  317. which says,

  318. Don't worry about

  319. what you will eat

  320. or drink or wear,

  321. but seek first

  322. God's kingdom

  323. and His righteousness

  324. and all these things

  325. will be given to you as well.

  326. Believing this promise

  327. means that I can walk forward

  328. in generosity,

  329. trusting His provision

  330. for all my needs.

  331. how about when I'm sick

  332. and God isn't giving me

  333. the healing

  334. that I've asked Him for?

  335. Well, I can believe

  336. in God's promise

  337. in Romans 8, 28,

  338. which says,

  339. God will make all things

  340. work together

  341. for the good of those

  342. who love Him

  343. and are called

  344. according to His purpose.

  345. And believing in that promise,

  346. I can walk forward,

  347. trusting that

  348. He will make this illness

  349. turn out for my good

  350. and His glory.

  351. When I've been badly hurt

  352. by a brother or sister,

  353. and I'm tempted to show revenge

  354. to those who have wronged me,

  355. I can believe God's promise

  356. in 1 Peter 4

  357. that says,

  358. They will have to give

  359. an account to Him

  360. who is ready to judge

  361. the living and the dead.

  362. And believing this promise

  363. enables me to walk forward

  364. in love,

  365. even if I never receive

  366. an apology from that person.

  367. When I'm being tempted

  368. by sexual sin,

  369. and all the world

  370. is telling me

  371. to just do whatever

  372. makes me happy,

  373. I can choose to believe

  374. God's greater promise

  375. that says,

  376. Everyone who drinks this water

  377. will be thirsty again,

  378. but whoever drinks

  379. the water I give them

  380. will never thirst.

  381. By believing in that promise,

  382. I can walk forward

  383. in purity,

  384. quenching my thirst

  385. to God's

  386. fountain of life.

  387. Because God

  388. always keeps His promises,

  389. we can keep walking

  390. forward in them,

  391. even when our situation

  392. seems like madness to us.

  393. It's blind faith.

  394. It's a road marked with pain.

  395. But it saves us

  396. if it grows

  397. our faith

  398. in Christ.

  399. So we've established,

  400. number one,

  401. God's purpose

  402. in our testing

  403. to grow our faith.

  404. And we've heard

  405. about God's promises

  406. in our testing

  407. to help us through.

  408. And now,

  409. lastly,

  410. we come to God's

  411. presence

  412. in our testing.

  413. And you might be saying

  414. to yourself at this point,

  415. Okay,

  416. I guess that God

  417. tests me

  418. to grow my faith

  419. in Him

  420. and that He's given me

  421. His promises

  422. to hold on to.

  423. But what about

  424. when I'm in the middle

  425. of that test

  426. and I'm suffering

  427. badly?

  428. I'm angry,

  429. I'm hurting,

  430. and I'm struggling

  431. to even talk to God

  432. about the situation

  433. I'm in right now.

  434. The situation

  435. that He's allowing

  436. in my life.

  437. My faith is weak

  438. and I can't even say

  439. I'm consistently trusting

  440. in Him

  441. or in His promises.

  442. Never mind walking

  443. in obedience.

  444. What about those times?

  445. You see,

  446. Abraham might have been

  447. a shiny example

  448. in this particular story

  449. of faith and obedience,

  450. but he wasn't

  451. many times in the past.

  452. And neither will we

  453. trust perfectly.

  454. Read with me

  455. from verse 10.

  456. Then Abraham

  457. reached out his hand

  458. and took the knife

  459. to slay his son.

  460. But the angel of the Lord

  461. called out to him

  462. from heaven,

  463. Abraham,

  464. Abraham,

  465. Here I am,

  466. he replied.

  467. Do not lay a hand

  468. on the boy,

  469. he said.

  470. Do not do anything

  471. to him.

  472. Now I know

  473. that you fear God

  474. because you have

  475. not withheld

  476. from me

  477. your son,

  478. your only son.

  479. Abraham looked up

  480. and there in a thicket

  481. he saw a ram

  482. caught by its horns.

  483. He went over

  484. and took the ram

  485. and sacrificed it

  486. as a burnt offering

  487. instead of his son.

  488. So Abraham

  489. called that place

  490. the Lord

  491. will provide.

  492. And to this day

  493. it is said

  494. on the mountain

  495. of the Lord

  496. it will be provided.

  497. All of a sudden

  498. God's request

  499. of Abraham

  500. which was

  501. once so confusing

  502. and so painful

  503. now begins

  504. to make sense.

  505. God never wanted

  506. Abraham to sacrifice

  507. his son.

  508. He wanted

  509. to show

  510. Abraham

  511. that he

  512. the Lord

  513. of the universe

  514. would one day

  515. sacrifice

  516. his one

  517. and only son.

  518. Two thousand

  519. years after

  520. Isaac

  521. Jesus

  522. would walk

  523. up a hill

  524. carrying wood

  525. on his back.

  526. Like Isaac

  527. he would be

  528. silent as a lamb

  529. led to the slaughter

  530. trusting perfectly

  531. in his father.

  532. he would not

  533. resist

  534. but would

  535. willingly allow

  536. the soldiers

  537. to nail him

  538. to the cross

  539. obeying his father

  540. perfectly.

  541. But where

  542. Isaac was

  543. spared on the

  544. altar

  545. Jesus would

  546. not be spared

  547. on the cross.

  548. The full weight

  549. of the wrath

  550. of God

  551. for our sin

  552. would crush

  553. him.

  554. He would die

  555. for all of

  556. our faithlessness

  557. our self

  558. dependency

  559. and idolatry

  560. of lesser

  561. things.

  562. Jesus

  563. passed

  564. the ultimate

  565. test of

  566. faith

  567. for us.

  568. And then

  569. crucially

  570. he rose

  571. again from

  572. the grave

  573. to be our

  574. risen king

  575. conquering death

  576. and guaranteeing

  577. our future

  578. resurrection

  579. to eternal

  580. life.

  581. He is seated

  582. at the right

  583. hand of the

  584. father right

  585. now

  586. interceding

  587. for us

  588. just like he

  589. prayed for

  590. Simon Peter

  591. that his

  592. faith would

  593. not fail

  594. through testing

  595. so Jesus

  596. is also

  597. praying

  598. for those

  599. who belong

  600. to him.

  601. we are

  602. all going

  603. to turn

  604. away from

  605. God's

  606. promises

  607. and trust

  608. in ourselves

  609. just like

  610. Abraham

  611. on previous

  612. occasions

  613. just like

  614. Peter did

  615. when he

  616. denied Jesus

  617. we are

  618. often going

  619. to live

  620. like we

  621. don't believe

  622. God's

  623. promises

  624. are true

  625. and that's

  626. why we

  627. needed a

  628. perfect

  629. sinless

  630. savior

  631. who passed

  632. the test

  633. for us

  634. and now

  635. is

  636. interceding

  637. for us

  638. he's

  639. speaking

  640. praying

  641. that we

  642. would

  643. persevere

  644. and like

  645. the song

  646. says

  647. when I

  648. fear my

  649. faith will

  650. fail

  651. Christ

  652. will hold

  653. me fast

  654. when the

  655. tempter

  656. would prevail

  657. he

  658. will hold

  659. me fast

  660. that's truth

  661. from God's

  662. word

  663. Jesus

  664. wants us

  665. to pass

  666. the test

  667. and he

  668. is praying

  669. to the

  670. father

  671. that our

  672. faith will

  673. not fail

  674. even though

  675. we lose

  676. our focus

  677. on him

  678. so it's

  679. simple

  680. place

  681. your entire

  682. faith

  683. in Jesus

  684. work on the

  685. cross for

  686. you

  687. know the

  688. forgiveness

  689. of all

  690. your sin

  691. and your

  692. relationship

  693. with him

  694. restored

  695. and he

  696. will give

  697. you the

  698. gift of

  699. his holy

  700. spirit

  701. God

  702. living

  703. inside

  704. you

  705. present

  706. with

  707. you

  708. through

  709. all of

  710. your

  711. suffering

  712. and

  713. testing

  714. and not

  715. only that

  716. through

  717. faith in

  718. Christ

  719. you are

  720. adopted

  721. into

  722. God's

  723. family

  724. you're

  725. counted

  726. as

  727. sons

  728. and

  729. daughters

  730. of

  731. Abraham

  732. meaning

  733. that all

  734. the promises

  735. that we

  736. read about

  737. in verses

  738. 17 and

  739. 18

  740. they're

  741. yours

  742. as well

  743. they're

  744. mine

  745. just as

  746. Abraham

  747. was

  748. promised

  749. blessing

  750. by

  751. God

  752. so we

  753. have been

  754. blessed

  755. with every

  756. spiritual

  757. blessing

  758. in Christ

  759. just as

  760. Abraham

  761. was promised

  762. a family

  763. as numerous

  764. as the

  765. stars

  766. so we

  767. have been

  768. brought into

  769. a family

  770. of believers

  771. from all

  772. nationalities

  773. and backgrounds

  774. spanning

  775. history

  776. just as

  777. Abraham

  778. was promised

  779. a heavenly

  780. city

  781. so we

  782. are heirs

  783. of eternity

  784. in heaven

  785. as well

  786. these are

  787. promises

  788. that you

  789. and I

  790. can build

  791. our lives

  792. on

  793. remember

  794. them

  795. believe

  796. them

  797. show you

  798. believe them

  799. by walking

  800. forward in

  801. them

  802. and whenever

  803. you fail

  804. to trust

  805. and obey

  806. keep coming

  807. back

  808. to the

  809. one who

  810. trusted

  811. and obeyed

  812. perfectly

  813. for you

  814. he is

  815. present

  816. in your

  817. testing

  818. he is

  819. keeping

  820. you

  821. from

  822. falling

  823. though

  824. you

  825. struggle

  826. his

  827. grace

  828. is

  829. enough

  830. for all

  831. your

  832. mistakes

  833. parameters

  834. just

  835. want to

  836. finish

  837. with

  838. jude

  839. verses

  840. 24

  841. and

  842. 25

  843. just

  844. listen

  845. to it

  846. now

  847. to him

  848. who is

  849. able to

  850. keep

  851. you

  852. from

  853. stumbling

  854. and to

  855. present

  856. you

  857. before

  858. his

  859. glorious

  860. presence

  861. without

  862. fault

  863. and with

  864. great

  865. joy

  866. to the only God our Saviour

  867. be glory, majesty, power and authority

  868. through Jesus Christ our Lord

  869. before all ages, now and forevermore.

  870. Let's pray.

  871. Lord, we just ask that

  872. you would not save us from all trouble

  873. but first of all, God,

  874. that you would use the trouble

  875. and the testing and the suffering

  876. to save us from ourselves.

  877. And Lord, whenever you do test our faith,

  878. give us grace to believe in your promises.

  879. Give us grace to live

  880. like we believe them.

  881. Thank you for your finished work

  882. on the cross for us.

  883. Lord, we simply rest in that work today.

  884. And we place our entire faith

  885. in what you have achieved for us.

  886. Lord,

  887. grow our faith

  888. through times of testing.

  889. thank you that you are keeping us

  890. till the end.

  891. In Jesus' name.

  892. Amen.

  893. Amen.

  894. Thanks very much, Sam.

  895. tough passage,

  896. but absolutely superb.

  897. A couple of things that I took from it.

  898. We're going to sing a couple of songs

  899. to finish.

  900. But Sam said,

  901. in doing the very thing

  902. that brings Abraham to his knees,

  903. God is saving him.

  904. I hope we can remember that

  905. throughout the week,

  906. that while we're going through

  907. these tough times,

  908. God is using that

  909. to save us,

  910. to strengthen our faith.

  911. And if we can remember

  912. the promises

  913. while we're going through these times.

  914. The two songs we're going to sing

  915. now are speaking about

  916. that last point

  917. that Sam was making

  918. about God's presence

  919. in our testing,

  920. in our struggles.

  921. The first one is

  922. He will hold me fast.

  923. You might have heard Sam quote it

  924. in the sermon.

  925. And the second one is

  926. before the throne of God above

  927. where it says

  928. that God ever lives

  929. and pleads for me.

  930. So like Sam was speaking about,

  931. when you are going through

  932. those hard times,

  933. yes, it is awful,

  934. but God is there with you.

  935. If you hold on to His promises,

  936. He is there with you in it.

  937. Please feel free to stand.
