  1. So we're going to read Revelation chapter 3 on Wednesdays.

    Revelation 3 chapter mention

  2. We've been looking at Revelation also and we've been looking at these particular messages from chapters 2 and 3 and we're going to be looking at the last one today.

  3. So let's read God's Word. Chapter 3 starting at verse 14.

  4. To the angel of the church in Laodicea writes,

  5. Amen.

  6. Like the people you call us to be.

  7. We ask for your help because without you we have no good thing.

  8. Amen.

  9. So I wonder how would you describe the spiritual condition of this church?

  10. If you were to set up your spiritual monitor indicator and place it around at various pews or chairs as they are, what would be your findings?

  11. Would the little dial flicker towards weak or strong?

  12. Or would it go from rich or poor?

  13. What's the spiritual condition of the church?

  14. Or let's make it more personal.

  15. What about you?

  16. What about me?

  17. Would you say you're in a healthy condition spiritually?

  18. Or an unhealthy condition?

  19. Where would you be on that monitor?

  20. Well, starting in chapters 2 and all the way through to the end of chapter 3,

  21. we have a series of messages from Jesus to the church.

  22. And the purpose is to identify any weaknesses so that we can take corrective action and strengthen the church.

  23. Because once we know where the cracks appear, we can firm up the foundations and we can be strong together as we live in this world.

  24. You see, we might make our assessment, but the only one qualified to make an assessment is the Lord Jesus.

  25. Look at verse 1.

  26. To the angel of the church in Laodicea write, these are the words of the Amen.

  27. Jesus is the Amen.

  28. Now, Amen isn't just a word that you attach at the end of your prayers.

  29. To indicate you're finished.

  30. It's a declaration of certain undeniable truth.

  31. So when you pray a simple prayer like,

  32. Thank you, Jesus, for your love towards me.

  33. Amen.

  34. You're actually ending by saying,

  35. The truth.

  36. And if you say Amen in response to somebody else's prayer,

  37. you are declaring,

  38. The truth.

  39. Yes, Jesus does love me.

  40. That's right.

  41. It's true.

  42. Now, Jesus is the Amen.

  43. In other words, he's the declaration of God's truth.

  44. Everything he does and everything he says is true.

  45. He is, look at verse 14,

  46. The faithful and true witness.

  47. The ruler of God's creation.

  48. So what he has to say to us today through his word is absolute.

  49. It's certain.

  50. It's unquestioning truth.

  51. In other words, we can't argue with it.

  52. It's not up for debate.

  53. In fact, the only right response is,

  54. Look at the end, verse 22.

  55. Whoever has ears,

  56. Let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches.

  57. Listening to the Spirit is submitting to the word.

  58. It's to accept the assessment of Jesus

  59. So that we can, in response,

  60. Take corrective action

  61. And become the strong people that he calls us to be.

  62. So what does Jesus have to say to us today?

  63. Well, we're going to see three things in particular that he says.

  64. First of all, we're going to see there's a loving rebuke.

  65. Then there's a gracious invitation.

  66. And an eternal reward.

  67. So here we go.

  68. A loving rebuke.

  69. Verse 15.

  70. I know your deeds.

  71. Now in nearly every other church that we read about in these messages,

  72. There follows a commendation.

  73. He goes, I know your deeds.

  74. And then list them out.

  75. I know your hard work.

  76. And how you didn't renounce your faith.

  77. And how you persevered in service.

  78. And how you served wonderful cups of tea.

  79. And had the best biscuits.

  80. And had a great welcome.

  81. And what a wonderful church.

  82. And how you are.

  83. But instead of a list of the church's strengths.

  84. Jesus launches straight into a rebuke.

  85. Verse 15.

  86. I know your deeds.

  87. And here they are.

  88. That you are neither cold nor hot.

  89. Now let's be honest.

  90. Now let's be honest.

  91. None of us find rebuke easy, do we?

  92. We don't like it when somebody points out our faults and our failings.

  93. In fact, we probably get quite defensive and immediately push back and go,

  94. No, no, that's not me.

  95. That's not what I meant.

  96. That's not what I said.

  97. But this isn't about naming and shaming.

  98. This isn't about piling on the guilt and bashing you on the head.

  99. No, look at verse 19.

  100. Those whom I love, I rebuke and discipline.

  101. Jesus' rebuke is evidence of his love.

  102. He loves his church.

  103. He cares deeply for his church.

  104. A parent who doesn't discipline or rebuke their son or daughter doesn't care about their welfare.

  105. But a parent who does correct loves their child.

  106. They want the best for them to grow in maturity.

  107. How much more then does Jesus, who died for us, love us?

  108. His rebuke is evidence that we are deeply treasured by him.

  109. He exposes our weaknesses so that we can take corrective action and strengthen the church.

  110. So what is his loving rebuke?

  111. Well, it comes in three parts.

  112. Here's the first part.

  113. First, he says, you are lukewarm.

  114. Verse 15, I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot.

  115. I wish you were either one or the other.

  116. And one of the things I enjoyed on holiday was the lovely hot weather.

  117. Blistering hot.

  118. And opening up your bottle when you're really thirsty and taking in a drink.

  119. Oh, there's nothing worse than a bottle that's been sitting in the sun.

  120. It's disgusting.

  121. Give me a cold drink or a hot drink.

  122. But don't give me that tepid, lukewarm stuff.

  123. You don't go down to the shop and buy warm tea, do you?

  124. It's either iced tea or hot tea.

  125. Or if you're a bit posh, a frappuccino or a cappuccino.

  126. Well, says Jesus, that's what the church tastes like.

  127. When I put you in my mouth, there.

  128. Verse 16.

  129. Because you are lukewarm, neither hot nor cold, I'm about to spit you out of my mouth.

  130. The spiritual condition tastes so bad, it would make you feel sick.

  131. Oh gosh, that's all a bit harsh, isn't it?

  132. It might be true of the church in Laodicea, but I mean, that's not me.

  133. That's not this church, is it?

  134. Well, let's read on.

  135. Not only are we lukewarm, we are self-sufficient.

  136. Whoops.

  137. The reason why the church tastes so bad is because they live as if they're self-sufficient.

  138. Look at verse 17.

  139. You say, I'm rich, I've acquired wealth and do not need a thing.

  140. We see being self-sufficient as something to be pursued and to be prized.

  141. If you can get to the point in life where you are financially stable, that's a sign that you've made it, that you're a success.

  142. My mortgage is paid off.

  143. My pension is doing well.

  144. My savings are safe.

  145. I do not need a thing.

  146. In fact, I'm doing so well, I no longer have to ask God for anything.

  147. Isn't that what we want?

  148. I mean, why be a burden to God and have to ask him for things?

  149. In fact, maybe God has blessed us so much, rather than have any kind of needs, I can meet everybody else's needs.

  150. If someone's in need today, in need of assistance, just ask me.

  151. I know we're living in a cost-of-living crisis, so I'll pay your electricity bill.

  152. I'll fill your car up with petrol.

  153. And if any of our mission partners or anyone in the Court Carry Project, if they need a handout, no problem.

  154. I've got the resources to help.

  155. I'm rich.

  156. I've acquired wealth.

  157. I do not need a thing.

  158. Is that what you pursue and prize?

  159. Well, it seems the church in Laodicea had become so prosperous

  160. that their financial self-sufficiency has become their spiritual self-sufficiency.

  161. They've looked at their bank account and go,

  162. I like what I see there, and they've immediately translated as,

  163. I'm doing spiritually well.

  164. Now, please don't misunderstand me.

  165. Money and wealth is not wrong.

  166. It can be good to make money and use it for the blessing of others

  167. and the building up of his church.

  168. Scripture encourages us to work hard, make a living.

  169. It commands us to give and to care for the poor.

  170. In fact, the people of Carigoline Baptist Church,

  171. you know what, let me say this,

  172. you are extremely generous financially.

  173. Anytime we've come up with a need for people overseas,

  174. people have given more than I've ever expected or imagined.

  175. Our financial health is excellent.

  176. We're doing so well as a church

  177. that we're wanting to appoint an assistant pastor

  178. and be able to afford to do it.

  179. Thank God for generous giving.

  180. Thank God for people like you who give so well.

  181. But the danger is our financial self-sufficiency

  182. can become our spiritual self-sufficiency.

  183. In other words, our financial health

  184. can have a disastrous effect on our spiritual health.

  185. We are not just lukewarm and self-sufficient.

  186. Perhaps we've become spiritually poor.

  187. Look at verse 17.

  188. You say I'm rich, I've acquired wealth and do not need a thing.

  189. But you do not realise that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked.

  190. Now I'm sure we've been listening to the same news

  191. and getting the same feeds in our social media

  192. and we're concerned about the cost of living crisis.

  193. We've had the conversations, haven't we?

  194. We've reflected and thought,

  195. how is this going to affect me and my family?

  196. Maybe you have checked your bank balance,

  197. done the sums and taken action,

  198. decided, well, we're going to use the car less,

  199. not take so many trips.

  200. Or maybe, as in our case,

  201. it's not spending 15 minutes in the electric shower.

  202. You do the calculations and you say,

  203. it's all right, I've worked it all out,

  204. we're going to get through this.

  205. Because the pressure to be financially strong and secure

  206. is right in our face.

  207. That's what everybody tells us.

  208. In fact, it can be so strong

  209. that we can lose our focus and end up spiritually poor.

  210. We might breathe a sigh of relief

  211. that we were able to pay our electricity bill,

  212. but at the same time, we've forgotten all about Jesus.

  213. We can pride ourselves that we've survived the crisis,

  214. but at the same time, we've lost our love for Jesus.

  215. Verse 17.

  216. Let's turn it into a question.

  217. The end of verse 17.

  218. Is it possible

  219. or that you do not realise

  220. that perhaps you've become wretched,

  221. pitiful,

  222. poor,

  223. blind,

  224. and naked?

  225. You see, the sign of a healthy church

  226. is one that actually knows their needs.

  227. Rather than celebrating material fullness,

  228. what we see is our spiritual emptiness.

  229. Rather than declare,

  230. I don't need a thing,

  231. we desperately shout out,

  232. I need Jesus.

  233. We need to be so careful

  234. that our material wealth

  235. does not blind us to our spiritual health.

  236. physically,

  237. we can be well housed,

  238. well insured,

  239. well clothed,

  240. prepared for any financial crisis,

  241. but at the same time,

  242. we have become

  243. spiritually poor.

  244. Is that us today as a church?

  245. Is that me?

  246. Have I become spiritually poor?

  247. Have I become spiritually poor?

  248. Well, how are we going to change

  249. these things around?

  250. Well, not only is there a loving rebuke,

  251. there is a gracious invitation.

  252. Look at verse 19.

  253. Those whom I love,

  254. I rebuke and discipline,

  255. so be earnest

  256. and repent.

  257. Repentance always means

  258. turning back to Jesus.

  259. And Jesus shows us

  260. how to do that.

  261. Listen to his

  262. gracious invitation.

  263. There's two

  264. wonderful invitations

  265. for us today.

  266. Here's the first.

  267. Jesus says,

  268. buy from me.

  269. Buy from me.

  270. Verse 18.

  271. I counsel you

  272. to buy from me.

  273. Well, how can we

  274. buy anything?

  275. I mean, we've just seen

  276. that we are

  277. spiritually poor.

  278. But that's exactly

  279. the point.

  280. We buy from the Lord Jesus

  281. with our spiritual poverty.

  282. The currency

  283. that Jesus accepts

  284. is emptiness

  285. and brokenness.

  286. we come with

  287. nothing else

  288. but our

  289. desperate,

  290. needy self.

  291. You see,

  292. this is the

  293. amazing grace

  294. of Jesus

  295. towards us.

  296. He invites us

  297. and he says to us

  298. today,

  299. come to me

  300. as you are.

  301. Right here,

  302. right now.

  303. and I will

  304. satisfy you.

  305. Verse 18.

  306. I counsel you

  307. to buy from me

  308. gold refined

  309. in the fire

  310. so that you

  311. can become rich

  312. and white clothes

  313. to wear

  314. so that you

  315. can cover

  316. your shameful

  317. nakedness

  318. and salve

  319. to put on

  320. your eyes

  321. so that you

  322. can see.

  323. I,

  324. says Jesus,

  325. will give you

  326. spiritual riches

  327. and eternal

  328. home

  329. and eternal

  330. blessings

  331. forevermore.

  332. I will supply

  333. you with

  334. spiritual clothes.

  335. I will cover

  336. up all

  337. your guilt

  338. and all

  339. your sin

  340. with a robe

  341. of my

  342. righteousness.

  343. I will give

  344. to you

  345. spiritual eyes

  346. so that you

  347. will be able

  348. to see the

  349. emptiness

  350. of self-sufficiency.

  351. and see

  352. in Jesus

  353. the beauty

  354. of all

  355. sufficiency.

  356. You see,

  357. this is an

  358. invitation

  359. not to come

  360. and get

  361. things

  362. or an idea

  363. or a philosophy.

  364. This is an

  365. invitation

  366. for us

  367. today

  368. to get

  369. Jesus.

  370. He's what

  371. we need.

  372. In Jesus

  373. we experience

  374. all the

  375. spiritual resources

  376. that we need

  377. for life

  378. and death

  379. and for

  380. all eternity.

  381. buy from

  382. me.

  383. Come with

  384. your spiritual

  385. poverty

  386. and exchange

  387. it

  388. for glorious

  389. riches.

  390. Jesus.

  391. In fact,

  392. Jesus not

  393. only invites

  394. us to

  395. come to

  396. him,

  397. he desires

  398. that he

  399. come to

  400. us.

  401. Not only

  402. does he

  403. say,

  404. buy from

  405. me,

  406. but he

  407. says,

  408. eat

  409. with

  410. me.

  411. Look at

  412. verse 20.

  413. Here I

  414. am.

  415. I

  416. stand at

  417. the door

  418. and

  419. knock.

  420. Now it's

  421. interesting to

  422. note,

  423. isn't it,

  424. who is

  425. pursuing

  426. who here

  427. in this

  428. relationship.

  429. Where's

  430. Jesus?

  431. Jesus

  432. is on the

  433. outside,

  434. knocking on

  435. the door

  436. because he

  437. wants to

  438. meet with

  439. us.

  440. He's

  441. saying to

  442. you and

  443. I today,

  444. let me

  445. in.

  446. Now very

  447. often we

  448. think of

  449. this verse

  450. as speaking

  451. to unbelievers,

  452. but remember

  453. this is

  454. speaking to

  455. believers,

  456. to the

  457. church.

  458. Let me

  459. come

  460. back in.

  461. You see,

  462. this is what

  463. self-sufficiency

  464. does.

  465. It pushes

  466. Jesus out

  467. of our

  468. lives.

  469. He no

  470. longer becomes

  471. our need.

  472. We don't

  473. need him.

  474. We can

  475. live without

  476. Jesus,

  477. so he's

  478. on the

  479. outside.

  480. Now

  481. amazingly,

  482. Jesus

  483. doesn't

  484. walk away

  485. in a

  486. huff,

  487. does he?

  488. He

  489. doesn't

  490. do a

  491. stroppy

  492. and go,

  493. that's

  494. it,

  495. you don't

  496. want me,

  497. I'm

  498. out of

  499. here,

  500. I'm

  501. not

  502. talking

  503. to

  504. you

  505. again.

  506. If

  507. you

  508. want

  509. me,

  510. well

  511. then you'll

  512. have to

  513. come

  514. back and

  515. talk to

  516. me.

  517. Isn't

  518. that how

  519. we

  520. react in

  521. our

  522. relationships

  523. with

  524. each

  525. other?

  526. No,

  527. Jesus

  528. hasn't

  529. gone

  530. anywhere.

  531. He's

  532. there

  533. knocking

  534. on the

  535. door.

  536. Listen,

  537. Jesus

  538. is calling

  539. your name.

  540. Can you

  541. hear him?

  542. He's

  543. speaking your

  544. name.

  545. Look at

  546. verse 20.

  547. I stand

  548. at the

  549. door and

  550. knock.

  551. If

  552. anyone

  553. hears

  554. my

  555. voice

  556. and

  557. opens

  558. the

  559. door,

  560. I will

  561. come in

  562. and eat

  563. with that

  564. person

  565. and they

  566. with me.

  567. Meals

  568. have

  569. kind of

  570. lost

  571. their

  572. significance,

  573. haven't

  574. they?

  575. For

  576. us at

  577. least.

  578. Eating

  579. has

  580. become

  581. nothing

  582. more

  583. than

  584. just

  585. a

  586. refueling

  587. exercise.

  588. Stuff

  589. as much

  590. as we

  591. can in

  592. as quick

  593. as

  594. possible

  595. so we

  596. can get

  597. on and

  598. do other

  599. things.

  600. We

  601. even

  602. eat on

  603. the run.

  604. We

  605. don't

  606. have

  607. time

  608. to

  609. sit

  610. down.

  611. But in

  612. the first

  613. century,

  614. and for

  615. Jesus

  616. as he's

  617. speaking,

  618. to sit

  619. down and

  620. spend time

  621. with people

  622. and to

  623. eat with

  624. someone was

  625. a sign of

  626. deep friendship

  627. and acceptance.

  628. It was the

  629. way of

  630. renewing

  631. fellowship

  632. with somebody

  633. where you

  634. had fallen

  635. out.

  636. And that's

  637. what Jesus

  638. is saying

  639. to you

  640. today.

  641. What a

  642. wonderful

  643. picture this

  644. is.

  645. he's

  646. knocking

  647. on the

  648. door.

  649. He's

  650. calling

  651. your name.

  652. Johnny,

  653. I want

  654. to come

  655. in.

  656. I want

  657. to sit

  658. with you.

  659. I want

  660. to eat

  661. with you.

  662. I've

  663. come to

  664. renew

  665. fellowship

  666. with you.

  667. Let

  668. me

  669. in.

  670. In

  671. fact,

  672. I want

  673. you to

  674. experience

  675. spiritual

  676. resources

  677. in all

  678. their

  679. fullness.

  680. I want

  681. you to

  682. enjoy a

  683. meal with

  684. me and

  685. to receive

  686. from me.

  687. Look,

  688. let's not

  689. beat about

  690. the bush.

  691. We can

  692. all get

  693. ourselves in

  694. a desperate

  695. mess,

  696. can't we?

  697. Our sin

  698. pulls us

  699. away from

  700. Jesus.

  701. We listen

  702. to the

  703. messages

  704. about

  705. financial

  706. security.

  707. we've

  708. got to

  709. sort

  710. ourselves

  711. out,

  712. but we

  713. just get

  714. pulled

  715. away.

  716. And we

  717. think,

  718. I've got

  719. to do

  720. something,

  721. I'm going

  722. to change,

  723. I'm going

  724. to make

  725. things

  726. different.

  727. What do

  728. I have

  729. to do

  730. to make

  731. Jesus

  732. give me

  733. what I

  734. need?

  735. What do

  736. I have

  737. to do

  738. so that

  739. Jesus is

  740. going to

  741. accept me

  742. back again?

  743. Well,

  744. the problem

  745. is we

  746. can never

  747. ever do

  748. enough.

  749. In fact,

  750. our sin

  751. just reminds

  752. us that

  753. we need

  754. to start

  755. the whole

  756. process

  757. all over

  758. again.

  759. No,

  760. there's

  761. another

  762. way.

  763. Do you

  764. hear his

  765. gracious

  766. invitation?

  767. Jesus

  768. comes to

  769. us.

  770. Jesus

  771. is the

  772. one

  773. taking

  774. the

  775. initiative.

  776. He

  777. always

  778. does.

  779. Do you

  780. hear his

  781. voice?

  782. Buy

  783. from

  784. me.

  785. Eat

  786. with

  787. me.

  788. Come

  789. with

  790. your

  791. spiritual

  792. emptiness

  793. and

  794. brokenness

  795. and I

  796. will

  797. fill you

  798. with

  799. treasures

  800. forevermore.

  801. Not

  802. only do

  803. we have

  804. a loving

  805. rebuke

  806. and his

  807. gracious

  808. invitation

  809. but a

  810. promise

  811. of an

  812. eternal

  813. reward.

  814. You

  815. see the

  816. big

  817. point

  818. here

  819. is this.

  820. The

  821. call

  822. upon

  823. our

  824. life

  825. today

  826. is to

  827. invest

  828. in

  829. our

  830. life

  831. spiritually

  832. even

  833. if that

  834. means

  835. financial

  836. poverty.

  837. In

  838. other

  839. words,

  840. we are

  841. better off

  842. being

  843. spiritually

  844. rich

  845. and

  846. financially

  847. poor

  848. than

  849. being

  850. spiritually

  851. poor

  852. and

  853. financially

  854. rich.

  855. Do you

  856. believe

  857. that?

  858. It's

  859. true.

  860. Look

  861. back to

  862. the church

  863. in

  864. Smyrna

  865. chapter

  866. 2

  867. verse

  868. 9.

  869. They

  870. were the

  871. flip side

  872. of

  873. Laodicea.

  874. Jesus

  875. says to

  876. them in

  877. verse 9,

  878. I know

  879. your

  880. afflictions

  881. and your

  882. poverty.

  883. They

  884. didn't

  885. have

  886. anything.

  887. Oh,

  888. they

  889. did.

  890. You

  891. are

  892. rich.

  893. They

  894. were

  895. rich

  896. in

  897. Christ.

  898. So

  899. what

  900. will it

  901. mean

  902. for you

  903. and I

  904. to

  905. invest

  906. in

  907. and

  908. prioritize

  909. our

  910. spiritual

  911. health?

  912. Well,

  913. let me

  914. throw

  915. these out

  916. in very

  917. general

  918. ways.

  919. Maybe

  920. you're a

  921. younger

  922. person

  923. or consider

  924. yourself

  925. younger

  926. today.

  927. You're

  928. still in

  929. school

  930. or you're

  931. about to

  932. embark on

  933. your career

  934. and you

  935. have

  936. ambitions.

  937. decisions.

  938. You're

  939. making

  940. choices and

  941. decisions about

  942. your job and

  943. your future.

  944. Well,

  945. let me say

  946. this.

  947. Make sure

  948. you

  949. prioritize

  950. mating

  951. with God's

  952. people.

  953. Before

  954. committing to

  955. a career,

  956. be committed

  957. to your

  958. local church

  959. because they're

  960. going to be

  961. watching out

  962. for your

  963. spiritual

  964. health,

  965. responsibility

  966. and

  967. accountability,

  968. you will

  969. need it.

  970. You won't

  971. survive

  972. without it.

  973. But maybe

  974. you're

  975. thinking,

  976. well,

  977. I'm a

  978. little bit

  979. further on

  980. than that

  981. and I'm

  982. thinking,

  983. well,

  984. how can I

  985. better my

  986. financial

  987. situation?

  988. How could

  989. I move

  990. up the

  991. ladder,

  992. maybe take

  993. on a bit

  994. more

  995. responsibility

  996. at work

  997. and increase

  998. the paycheck

  999. at the end

  1000. of the

  1001. month?

  1002. Well,

  1003. that can

  1004. be good.

  1005. I'm not

  1006. saying that's

  1007. bad.

  1008. But sometimes

  1009. what we need

  1010. is not

  1011. more,

  1012. but less.

  1013. Not more

  1014. hours and

  1015. more pay,

  1016. but less

  1017. hours.

  1018. Sometimes

  1019. we need

  1020. to reduce

  1021. things so

  1022. that we

  1023. haven't become

  1024. so busy

  1025. and flustered

  1026. that we

  1027. don't have

  1028. time for

  1029. Jesus.

  1030. retirement.

  1031. Or maybe

  1032. you're kind

  1033. of at the

  1034. other end

  1035. of the

  1036. scale and

  1037. you're

  1038. thinking

  1039. retirement.

  1040. Or maybe

  1041. you already

  1042. have retired.

  1043. Time to

  1044. cash in,

  1045. isn't it?

  1046. Get that

  1047. pension going,

  1048. treat yourself,

  1049. spend the

  1050. kids'

  1051. inheritance,

  1052. oh,

  1053. that would

  1054. be nice.

  1055. well,

  1056. again,

  1057. I'm not

  1058. saying it's

  1059. wrong to

  1060. do any

  1061. of these

  1062. things.

  1063. But watch

  1064. out.

  1065. Watch out

  1066. that in your

  1067. older age it

  1068. doesn't grab

  1069. you and

  1070. consume you

  1071. and you

  1072. forget your

  1073. spiritual love

  1074. for Christ.

  1075. You see,

  1076. the truth

  1077. is none

  1078. of us would

  1079. ever make

  1080. a decision

  1081. that would

  1082. compromise

  1083. our financial

  1084. health,

  1085. would we?

  1086. We're very

  1087. careful about

  1088. our monies.

  1089. But we all

  1090. have a habit

  1091. of making

  1092. choices that

  1093. compromise our

  1094. spiritual

  1095. condition.

  1096. We do it

  1097. all the time.

  1098. Yes,

  1099. this investment

  1100. and prioritising

  1101. our relationships

  1102. with Jesus

  1103. will be costly.

  1104. It may mean

  1105. we don't get

  1106. the career we

  1107. want or the

  1108. wage increase

  1109. or that

  1110. pension plan

  1111. and that

  1112. can be

  1113. hard.

  1114. And maybe

  1115. you're thinking

  1116. well I'm not

  1117. sure I want

  1118. to go down

  1119. that road.

  1120. I'm not

  1121. sure I'm

  1122. ready to

  1123. make those

  1124. decisions.

  1125. Is it

  1126. worth it

  1127. to throw

  1128. my lot

  1129. in for

  1130. Christ?

  1131. Absolutely.

  1132. 100%.

  1133. Don't

  1134. believe me?

  1135. listen to

  1136. what Jesus

  1137. says,

  1138. verse 21.

  1139. To the

  1140. one who

  1141. is victorious,

  1142. I will

  1143. give the

  1144. right to

  1145. sit with

  1146. me on

  1147. my throne

  1148. just as I

  1149. was victorious

  1150. and sat

  1151. down with

  1152. my father

  1153. on his

  1154. throne.

  1155. What a

  1156. promise.

  1157. It's

  1158. out of

  1159. this world.

  1160. world.

  1161. If we

  1162. make Jesus

  1163. our pursuit

  1164. and prize,

  1165. if we

  1166. prioritise

  1167. dependency

  1168. on Jesus,

  1169. you know

  1170. what we

  1171. will receive?

  1172. We're going

  1173. to get to

  1174. rule the

  1175. nations

  1176. with Jesus.

  1177. We're going

  1178. to sit

  1179. in the

  1180. place of

  1181. all rule

  1182. and power

  1183. and authority

  1184. as God's

  1185. people.

  1186. all that

  1187. he is

  1188. over,

  1189. we will

  1190. be over.

  1191. All that

  1192. is his

  1193. will become

  1194. ours.

  1195. Now,

  1196. I don't

  1197. know where

  1198. you are

  1199. on the

  1200. calculations,

  1201. but I

  1202. don't think

  1203. you can

  1204. get a

  1205. bigger

  1206. reward

  1207. or greater

  1208. riches

  1209. than that

  1210. for all

  1211. eternity.

  1212. Look,

  1213. we can

  1214. pour our

  1215. life into

  1216. financial

  1217. security,

  1218. we can

  1219. strive for

  1220. success

  1221. and self

  1222. sufficiency,

  1223. we can

  1224. reach the

  1225. heights where

  1226. we can

  1227. say,

  1228. I'm rich,

  1229. I've

  1230. acquired

  1231. everything,

  1232. I do

  1233. not need

  1234. a thing.

  1235. Be

  1236. careful.

  1237. Listen to

  1238. his invitation.

  1239. he's

  1240. calling

  1241. your name.

  1242. Buy

  1243. from me.

  1244. Eat

  1245. from me.

  1246. Look

  1247. upwards

  1248. to your

  1249. glorious

  1250. reward.

  1251. Invest

  1252. in your

  1253. spiritual

  1254. health

  1255. and you

  1256. will be

  1257. eternally

  1258. rich.

  1259. Let's

  1260. pray.

  1261. Pause

  1262. and

  1263. respond.

  1264. Lord, we

  1265. are so

  1266. quickly

  1267. distracted

  1268. and so

  1269. easily

  1270. deceived

  1271. by other

  1272. things,

  1273. particularly

  1274. financial

  1275. resources

  1276. and

  1277. wealth.

  1278. Help us

  1279. to prioritise

  1280. you,

  1281. to make

  1282. you our

  1283. prize

  1284. and our

  1285. pursuit

  1286. in life.

  1287. Knowing that

  1288. in you are

  1289. all that we

  1290. need for

  1291. life and

  1292. death and

  1293. for all

  1294. eternity,

  1295. that you

  1296. are sufficient.

  1297. Help us

  1298. always to say

  1299. that apart

  1300. from you,

  1301. I have no

  1302. good thing.

  1303. Thank you

  1304. thank you

  1305. that we

  1306. have

  1307. rewards

  1308. that are

  1309. bigger and

  1310. greater than

  1311. anything this

  1312. world could

  1313. ever offer.

  1314. Eternity

  1315. with you,

  1316. ruling

  1317. with you,

  1318. enjoying

  1319. your

  1320. blessings

  1321. forever

  1322. and forever

  1323. without end.

  1324. thank you

  1325. Lord for

  1326. your blessings

  1327. to us,

  1328. for our

  1329. financial

  1330. resources

  1331. individually

  1332. and as a

  1333. church.

  1334. Help us

  1335. to use

  1336. them for

  1337. your glory,

  1338. for your

  1339. kingdom,

  1340. and for

  1341. the good

  1342. of others.

  1343. In

  1344. Jesus'

  1345. name we

  1346. pray.

  1347. Amen.

  1348. Amen.
