  1. came expecting to hear somebody else. Sorry about that.

  2. But I hope you'll block out the same voice sounds and be able to hear God's word because

  3. that's ultimately what's most important, not the person at the front.

  4. And if you do miss any of the Sunday morning talks, so through the summer, Connor started

  5. off in 1 John and then Martin spoke last week from Luke's Gospel on the Cross. Any of those

  6. talks, they're all available online. There's a new sermon app or a new sermon program on

  7. the website which Christopher has been updating. So they're all there. You can listen away

  8. and it's a very easy format to click and follow up. So thanks, Chris, again for doing that.

  9. It's a great resource for us to have. So we're going to pray and then look at God's word.

  10. Father, thank you. Thank you for your gift to us. Thank you for life itself today, for

  11. for sustaining us, for sustaining us, giving us energy and strength to be here with one

  12. another. Father, we come and we gather because we are needy people. We cannot live life without

  13. you. We need your instruction. We need your word. We need your truth.

  14. For in that is life itself. So be gracious to us as you are. Speak to us afresh this morning.

  15. Build us up and help us. And it's in his name we pray. Amen.

  16. Well, Psalm 27, as I say, we'll read that in just a minute. But just by way of introduction,

  17. what do you fear? Right now as you sit there, what do you fear? What's going through your

  18. minds? This week I found myself overwhelmed with fear. Our son, Ethan, who you know, has

  19. been living with us for the last 23 years and went off to Canada to work. And driving back

  20. from the airport, my mind was racing. What if he doesn't find work? What if something goes

  21. wrong? What if he gets involved with the wrong kind of people? What if we don't hear from him?

  22. What if fear grips us, doesn't it? And paralyzes us. We fear perhaps losing our job or fearing

  23. new situations. We fear exams. We fear getting sick. We fear for our children. We fear about

  24. our parents. We fear about climate change. We fear about everything. And on our more reflective

  25. moments, we fear death itself. So as we begin, what is your fear? What are you worried about?

  26. What are you concerned about? Well, fears are natural and normal emotions. But it's what we

  27. do with those fears is what counts. Generally, there are three ways we respond to fears. The first

  28. is to fight, isn't it? We dig deep within and we say, I can beat this. We look to inner resources.

  29. But what happens when we don't have any fights left? What happens when our fears weaken us?

  30. Then what do we do? Well, the second is flight. When we fear, we run as fast as we can in the

  31. other direction. But what happens when we run in the other direction? We're actually running

  32. into another fear. Sooner or later, wherever we turn, we'll just be running into a new kind

  33. of fear. What do we do then? Or the third response is faith, which is what brings us to Psalm 27.

  34. King David, the author of the psalm, responds with confident faith. In the face of fear, there is

  35. confident faith. So let's read Psalm 27 together.

  36. The Lord is my light and my salvation. Whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life.

  37. of whom shall I be afraid? When the wicked advance against me to devour me, it is my enemies and my foes

  38. who will stumble and fall. Though an army besiege me, my heart will not fear. Though war break out against me,

  39. even then I will be confident. One thing I ask from the Lord, this only do I seek, that I may dwell in the house of the

  40. Lord all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the Lord and to seek him in his temple. For in the day of trouble,

  41. he will keep me safe in his dwelling. He will hide me in the shelter of his sacred tent and set me high upon a rock.

  42. Then my head will be exalted above the enemies who surround me. At his sacred tent I will sacrifice with shouts of joy.

  43. I will sing and make music to the Lord.

  44. Hear my voice, Lord, when I call. Be merciful to me and answer me.

  45. My heart says of you, seek his face.

  46. Your face, Lord, I will seek.

  47. Do not hide your face from me.

  48. Do not turn your servant away in anger.

  49. You have been my helper.

  50. Do not reject me or forsake me, God my Saviour.

  51. Though my father and mother forsake me,

  52. the Lord will receive me.

  53. Teach me your way, Lord.

  54. Lead me in a straight path because of my oppressors.

  55. Do not hand me over to the desires of my foes.

  56. For false witnesses rise up against me,

  57. spouting malicious accusations.

  58. I remain confident of this.

  59. I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.

  60. Wait for the Lord.

  61. Be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.

  62. So as we look together through this psalm,

  63. we're going to see three big ideas.

  64. Unwavering confidence,

  65. experiencing confidence,

  66. and keeping that confidence.

  67. So first,

  68. David's unwavering, confident faith.

  69. David's confidence is evident, isn't it?

  70. Straight from the beginning, verse 1.

  71. The Lord is my light and my salvation.

  72. Whom shall I fear?

  73. The Lord is the stronghold of my life.

  74. Of whom?

  75. Is there anyone

  76. who I shall fear?

  77. No fear.

  78. And it's not that David is immune from trouble.

  79. He lived in a world just like us

  80. that brings many kinds of fears.

  81. His life is under threat.

  82. So look at verse 2.

  83. He talks about the wicked

  84. advancing against him to devour him.

  85. Verse 5.

  86. His days are full of trouble.

  87. Verse 6.

  88. Enemies surround him.

  89. Physical armies.

  90. Physical armies.

  91. Verse 12.

  92. False witnesses rise up against me,

  93. spouting malicious accusations.

  94. What David is facing is real fear.

  95. And it's enough to make anybody run in fear.

  96. But yet he has this remarkable,

  97. unwavering confidence.

  98. Look at verse 2.

  99. When the wicked advance against me to devour me,

  100. well, it's my enemies and my foes

  101. who will stumble and fall.

  102. Though an army besiege me,

  103. my heart will not fear.

  104. Even though war break out against me,

  105. even then,

  106. I will be confident.

  107. It seems nothing and no one will defeat him or destroy him.

  108. It's almost he sounds indestructible

  109. that not even death can overcome him.

  110. In fact, he's so certain,

  111. verse 5,

  112. that when the day of trouble comes,

  113. he will keep me safe in his dwelling.

  114. He will hide me in the shelter of his sacred tent

  115. and set me high upon a rock.

  116. Whatever trouble comes his way,

  117. no matter how big or how great,

  118. who it is or what it is,

  119. he has an unwavering confidence

  120. that he can say,

  121. verse 13,

  122. I remain confident of this,

  123. absolutely sure, no doubt,

  124. I will see the goodness of the Lord

  125. in the land of the living.

  126. Isn't that the kind of confidence we want in life?

  127. That whatever fear we may face,

  128. be it loneliness,

  129. illness,

  130. or some future thing that may come,

  131. or even death itself,

  132. that we could say with absolute certainty,

  133. my heart will not fear.

  134. I will be confident.

  135. When the day of trouble comes,

  136. that we will be able to say,

  137. I will be safe.

  138. So how can I,

  139. how can we together,

  140. have unwavering confident faith

  141. in the face of our fears?

  142. Well, that brings us to our second big idea,

  143. experiencing confident faith.

  144. David's confidence is not in himself.

  145. This is not bravado.

  146. It is in a person, isn't it?

  147. Verse 1.

  148. The Lord is my light and salvation.

  149. Whom shall I fear?

  150. The Lord is the stronghold of my life.

  151. Of whom shall I be afraid?

  152. David's faith is rooted and grounded

  153. in a person,

  154. in the Lord,

  155. the one who is steadfast and loyal,

  156. faithful and unfailing.

  157. But not only that,

  158. David's confidence

  159. is not just something present,

  160. it is also something future.

  161. Look at verse 3.

  162. He says,

  163. Though war break out against me,

  164. I will be confident.

  165. In the day of trouble,

  166. verse 5,

  167. he will keep me safe.

  168. Now for David,

  169. that was partially true,

  170. wasn't it?

  171. We know of many accounts

  172. of where he defeated many enemies

  173. and won many battles.

  174. But yet when he fought

  175. the greatest enemy,

  176. when he faced the greatest battle,

  177. when he was confronted with death,

  178. he lost.

  179. David died.

  180. Because none of us can beat

  181. or defeat death.

  182. You see,

  183. David's confidence

  184. confidence was not in himself.

  185. He looked in faith

  186. to one who would defeat death

  187. for him.

  188. One who would overcome

  189. his greatest fear.

  190. He looked to the one

  191. who would provide

  192. eternal security

  193. and safety.

  194. You see,

  195. David's faith,

  196. his confidence,

  197. was in the Lord.

  198. And our confidence

  199. is in the same Lord,

  200. in Jesus Christ.

  201. Look with me, please,

  202. to Mark's Gospel,

  203. chapter 10.

  204. You can keep a finger

  205. in Psalm 27,

  206. but go to the New Testament,

  207. to the Gospel of Mark,

    Mark 10 chapter mention

  208. chapter 10.

  209. Here Jesus is talking

  210. with his disciples

  211. and he predicts

  212. his own death.

  213. He's talking about himself.

  214. And he says in verse 33,

  215. we are going up

  216. to Jerusalem.

  217. Jerusalem would be

  218. the place of his execution.

  219. And the Son of Man,

  220. speaking of himself,

  221. will be delivered

  222. over to the chief priests

  223. and the teachers

  224. of the law.

  225. They will condemn him

  226. to death

  227. and will hand him

  228. over to the Gentiles

  229. who will mock him

  230. and spit on him,

  231. flog him

  232. and kill him.

  233. You see,

  234. it's remarkable

  235. that the experience

  236. of Jesus here

  237. that he describes

  238. was just like

  239. King David.

  240. The wicked

  241. came to devour

  242. Jesus.

  243. The enemies

  244. plotted to kill

  245. Jesus.

  246. False witnesses

  247. slandered

  248. Jesus.

  249. The day of trouble

  250. came to Jesus

  251. and he died.

  252. He was executed

  253. by his enemies.

  254. But Jesus

  255. adds something else,

  256. doesn't he?

  257. Look at the end

  258. of verse 34.

  259. With great hope,

  260. three days later,

  261. the Son of Man

  262. will rise.

  263. And Christ

  264. was raised

  265. to life.

  266. He faced

  267. into death.

  268. He fought

  269. the greatest enemy.

  270. he faced

  271. the greatest

  272. battle of all

  273. and he won.

  274. Though the armies

  275. of death

  276. and evil

  277. came against him,

  278. his enemies

  279. stumbled

  280. and fell.

  281. Though Satan

  282. made a war

  283. against him,

  284. he was exalted

  285. above

  286. his enemies.

  287. What David

  288. said was true

  289. but only true

  290. through his

  291. faith in Christ.

  292. that's why

  293. we look

  294. in faith

  295. to Christ.

  296. Our confidence

  297. is in one

  298. who has

  299. secured

  300. our salvation,

  301. who's defeated

  302. our greatest

  303. enemy,

  304. who has

  305. crushed

  306. death itself.

  307. Christ

  308. is our

  309. stronghold

  310. over our

  311. life.

  312. Which means

  313. we can face

  314. into any

  315. fear

  316. with confident

  317. faith.

  318. No matter

  319. what life

  320. may throw

  321. at us,

  322. we can

  323. have confidence.

  324. So how

  325. can we

  326. experience

  327. this

  328. confident

  329. faith

  330. that David

  331. has?

  332. Well let's

  333. go back

  334. to Psalm

  335. 27.

  336. Two things

  337. that will

  338. help us

  339. to experience

  340. this

  341. confident

  342. faith

  343. as we

  344. look in

  345. faith

  346. to Christ.

  347. first,

  348. let us

  349. make

  350. Christ

  351. the

  352. focus

  353. of our

  354. gaze.

  355. Make

  356. Christ

  357. the

  358. focus

  359. of your

  360. gaze.

  361. Look at

  362. verse 4.

  363. One thing

  364. I ask

  365. from the

  366. Lord,

  367. this only

  368. do I

  369. seek,

  370. that I

  371. may dwell

  372. in the

  373. house of

  374. the Lord

  375. all the

  376. days of

  377. my life,

  378. to gaze

  379. on the

  380. beauty

  381. of the

  382. Lord

  383. and to

  384. seek

  385. him in

  386. his

  387. temple.

  388. To gaze

  389. on the

  390. beauty

  391. of the

  392. Lord.

  393. What does

  394. that mean

  395. for you

  396. and I?

  397. Well,

  398. let me

  399. try and

  400. explain.

  401. I love,

  402. as you

  403. know,

  404. to go

  405. walking in

  406. the mountains

  407. and to

  408. reach the

  409. top

  410. is

  411. breathtaking.

  412. To stand

  413. there all

  414. alone and

  415. see those

  416. panoramic

  417. views

  418. are

  419. captivating.

  420. Just for

  421. a moment

  422. to stand

  423. and gaze

  424. at the

  425. beauty

  426. all around

  427. makes

  428. everything

  429. else fade

  430. into

  431. insignificance.

  432. The beauty

  433. can be so

  434. captivating

  435. that you're

  436. no longer

  437. fearing the

  438. swirling

  439. winds

  440. or fearing

  441. the drop

  442. that is

  443. the other

  444. side of

  445. you.

  446. The beauty

  447. captures

  448. your heart.

  449. Or think

  450. of it

  451. like this.

  452. If you

  453. were to

  454. cross

  455. one of

  456. those rope

  457. bridges

  458. over a

  459. deep

  460. cavern,

  461. it's

  462. important

  463. what you

  464. gaze

  465. at.

  466. Don't

  467. look down.

  468. Of course,

  469. we all look

  470. down,

  471. don't we?

  472. We look

  473. around.

  474. We fear.

  475. We panic.

  476. We stumble.

  477. But if we

  478. fix our gaze

  479. on what's

  480. before us,

  481. on the

  482. person who's

  483. already walked

  484. across that

  485. bridge for

  486. us,

  487. our gaze

  488. is fixed

  489. and we

  490. will walk

  491. confidently.

  492. You see,

  493. we are to

  494. gaze on

  495. the beauty

  496. of Christ.

  497. To gaze

  498. is to

  499. linger,

  500. to meditate,

  501. to think

  502. upon,

  503. to be

  504. captivated by

  505. the greatness

  506. and the

  507. glory of

  508. who Jesus

  509. is,

  510. because it

  511. is only

  512. the beauty

  513. of Christ

  514. in all

  515. his magnificence,

  516. that will

  517. dispel

  518. our fears.

  519. Gaze.

  520. Keep

  521. looking at

  522. what Christ

  523. has done.

  524. Open up

  525. the word

  526. of God

  527. and see

  528. Christ

  529. in his

  530. beauty

  531. who comes

  532. to deal

  533. with our

  534. sin

  535. and deal

  536. with our

  537. greatest fear,

  538. death itself,

  539. who dies

  540. our death

  541. and rises

  542. again from

  543. the grave

  544. and gives

  545. us the gift

  546. of his

  547. spirit

  548. and fills

  549. us with

  550. grace

  551. and mercy

  552. and love

  553. and compassion.

  554. The one

  555. who secures

  556. our eternal

  557. life with

  558. him forever

  559. in his

  560. eternal

  561. kingdom

  562. gaze

  563. at the

  564. beauty of

  565. Jesus.

  566. You see,

  567. whatever we

  568. are gazing

  569. at

  570. captures

  571. our thoughts

  572. and our

  573. minds.

  574. love

  575. so focus

  576. your gaze

  577. on the

  578. beauty

  579. of Christ

  580. and your

  581. fears

  582. will be

  583. dispelled.

  584. Not only

  585. are we

  586. to gaze,

  587. we are

  588. to make

  589. Christ

  590. the

  591. desires

  592. of our

  593. hearts.

  594. Look at

  595. verse

  596. seven.

  597. hear my

  598. voice

  599. when I

  600. call

  601. Lord.

  602. Be

  603. merciful

  604. to me

  605. and answer

  606. me.

  607. My heart

  608. says of

  609. you,

  610. seek

  611. his face.

  612. Your

  613. face,

  614. Lord,

  615. I will

  616. seek.

  617. Do

  618. not

  619. hide

  620. your

  621. face

  622. from

  623. me.

  624. Seek

  625. his

  626. face.

  627. Well,

  628. it's not

  629. literally

  630. to look

  631. at the

  632. face

  633. of

  634. Christ

  635. or to

  636. hang a

  637. picture

  638. up at

  639. the wall

  640. of some

  641. pretend

  642. image of

  643. Christ

  644. and gaze

  645. at his

  646. face

  647. all day

  648. long.

  649. No,

  650. to seek

  651. his face

  652. is to

  653. desire

  654. to be

  655. in his

  656. presence,

  657. to be

  658. with

  659. Christ.

  660. If I

  661. said to

  662. Kirsty,

  663. she's

  664. heading off

  665. today to

  666. go and

  667. visit her

  668. family,

  669. and I

  670. ring her

  671. up in

  672. the week

  673. and say,

  674. I long

  675. to see

  676. your

  677. face.

  678. Well,

  679. I hope

  680. I want to

  681. see your

  682. face,

  683. but it's

  684. not just

  685. her face.

  686. I want

  687. her

  688. presence.

  689. You see,

  690. to seek

  691. Christ's

  692. face is

  693. to seek

  694. his

  695. presence,

  696. to be

  697. with

  698. Christ

  699. where he

  700. is,

  701. where there

  702. are no

  703. fears.

  704. Look back

  705. at verse

  706. four.

  707. One thing

  708. he says,

  709. I ask of

  710. the Lord,

  711. this only do

  712. I seek,

  713. that I may

  714. dwell in

  715. the house

  716. of the

  717. Lord all

  718. the days

  719. of my

  720. life.

  721. This is

  722. our ultimate

  723. goal and

  724. desire,

  725. to be

  726. with

  727. Christ,

  728. in person,

  729. to see

  730. him,

  731. to live

  732. with him

  733. forever,

  734. in that

  735. new and

  736. eternal

  737. kingdom

  738. where there

  739. are no

  740. more

  741. fears.

  742. No more

  743. fears.

  744. you see,

  745. whatever our

  746. heart's

  747. desire is,

  748. there you

  749. will follow.

  750. Whatever it

  751. is that

  752. captivates

  753. your heart,

  754. there you

  755. will give

  756. your time

  757. and your

  758. priority.

  759. So if

  760. your desire

  761. is,

  762. I want

  763. to get

  764. married,

  765. or if

  766. your desire

  767. is to

  768. get rich,

  769. or to

  770. be healthy

  771. and beautiful,

  772. or to

  773. be happy,

  774. if that's

  775. your

  776. priority,

  777. that's

  778. where you

  779. will be

  780. driven

  781. every day

  782. of your

  783. life.

  784. And it's

  785. not that

  786. any of

  787. those things

  788. are bad

  789. things,

  790. the problem

  791. is every

  792. one of

  793. those things

  794. are temporary.

  795. They

  796. don't

  797. last.

  798. They're

  799. like the

  800. mist that

  801. comes in

  802. the morning

  803. and is

  804. burnt up

  805. by the

  806. morning sun.

  807. As one

  808. writer put

  809. it,

  810. death

  811. will blow

  812. up all

  813. our hopes

  814. and put

  815. an end

  816. to all

  817. our

  818. enjoyments.

  819. Death

  820. will take

  821. us from

  822. these

  823. things,

  824. or death

  825. will take

  826. these things

  827. from us.

  828. You see,

  829. when we

  830. lose something

  831. precious to

  832. us,

  833. hope is

  834. replaced by

  835. fear.

  836. We've

  837. lost the

  838. very things

  839. that we

  840. put our

  841. hope

  842. into.

  843. Wherever

  844. your heart's

  845. desire is,

  846. that's

  847. where you

  848. will be

  849. driven

  850. to.

  851. But it's

  852. all temporary.

  853. It doesn't

  854. last.

  855. Death

  856. takes our

  857. security

  858. and our

  859. safety.

  860. But if

  861. Christ is

  862. our heart's

  863. desire,

  864. then whatever

  865. we lose,

  866. we do not

  867. need to

  868. fear.

  869. Look at

  870. verse 10.

  871. Though my

  872. father and

  873. mother forsake

  874. me, the

  875. Lord will

  876. receive me.

  877. Even if I

  878. should lose

  879. my parents,

  880. my spouse,

  881. my job,

  882. my health,

  883. even if I

  884. were to lose

  885. my own

  886. life, I

  887. can never

  888. lose the

  889. Lord.

  890. because the

  891. Lord will

  892. never forsake

  893. me.

  894. The Lord

  895. will always

  896. receive me.

  897. My confidence

  898. remains.

  899. The only

  900. thing that

  901. death will

  902. ever do

  903. is fulfill

  904. my desire

  905. because it

  906. will bring

  907. me into

  908. the very

  909. presence of

  910. Christ

  911. himself.

  912. You see,

  913. whatever our

  914. heart's desire

  915. is,

  916. whatever we

  917. follow,

  918. there we

  919. will go.

  920. So make

  921. Christ

  922. the desire

  923. of your

  924. heart.

  925. And as

  926. he fills

  927. your heart,

  928. your fears

  929. will be

  930. banished.

  931. One writer

  932. put it

  933. like this.

  934. Follow

  935. with me

  936. on screen.

  937. Man's

  938. days on

  939. the earth

  940. are out

  941. of the

  942. shadow.

  943. It was

  944. never

  945. designed

  946. by God

  947. that this

  948. world

  949. should be

  950. our

  951. home.

  952. The

  953. future

  954. world,

  955. heaven

  956. itself,

  957. the new

  958. heavens and

  959. the new

  960. earth,

  961. was designed

  962. to be our

  963. settled and

  964. everlasting

  965. home.

  966. To go

  967. to heaven

  968. fully to

  969. enjoy God

  970. is infinitely

  971. better than

  972. the most

  973. pleasant

  974. accommodations

  975. here.

  976. Fathers

  977. and mothers,

  978. husbands,

  979. husbands,

  980. wives,

  981. children,

  982. or the

  983. company of

  984. earthly

  985. friends,

  986. are but

  987. shadows.

  988. But the

  989. enjoyment of

  990. God is

  991. the

  992. substance.

  993. Everything

  994. we have,

  995. everything we

  996. hold is

  997. temporary.

  998. will be

  999. banished.

  1000. So,

  1001. experiencing

  1002. confidence,

  1003. how do we

  1004. keep this

  1005. confidence?

  1006. repentance.

  1007. Well,

  1008. Psalm 27

  1009. is a

  1010. prayer,

  1011. isn't it?

  1012. They're all

  1013. prayers,

  1014. they're all

  1015. cries from

  1016. the heart

  1017. to the

  1018. Lord.

  1019. Verse 7,

  1020. hear my

  1021. voice when

  1022. I call

  1023. Lord.

  1024. Be

  1025. merciful to

  1026. me and

  1027. answer me.

  1028. You see,

  1029. none of us

  1030. knows what

  1031. we're going to

  1032. face this

  1033. week,

  1034. what's going

  1035. to be before

  1036. us next

  1037. month,

  1038. what's going

  1039. to happen

  1040. next year.

  1041. But we do

  1042. know that in

  1043. some shape or

  1044. form,

  1045. fears will

  1046. come upon

  1047. us,

  1048. and they

  1049. will grip

  1050. us,

  1051. and they

  1052. will paralyze

  1053. us.

  1054. But it's

  1055. not so much

  1056. that we have

  1057. fears,

  1058. but it's what

  1059. we do with

  1060. our fears.

  1061. And here's

  1062. what the

  1063. Psalm has

  1064. been teaching

  1065. us,

  1066. that when

  1067. fears come

  1068. upon us,

  1069. run in

  1070. faith to

  1071. Christ.

  1072. Christ,

  1073. our confidence,

  1074. Christ,

  1075. our only

  1076. hope in

  1077. life and

  1078. death.

  1079. Christ,

  1080. the one who

  1081. has gone

  1082. before us,

  1083. who has

  1084. gone through

  1085. life.

  1086. He has

  1087. faced our

  1088. greatest fears

  1089. for us.

  1090. He has

  1091. conquered them

  1092. all.

  1093. He is my

  1094. confidence.

  1095. confidence.

  1096. So when

  1097. fears come

  1098. upon you

  1099. this week,

  1100. let your

  1101. fears be

  1102. your

  1103. friend.

  1104. Let your

  1105. fears bring

  1106. you back

  1107. to Christ.

  1108. Rather than

  1109. be overwhelmed

  1110. by fear,

  1111. refocus your

  1112. eyes,

  1113. reorientate

  1114. your heart,

  1115. make the

  1116. beauty of

  1117. Christ your

  1118. focus and

  1119. the gaze

  1120. upon him

  1121. will dispel

  1122. your fears.

  1123. Make the

  1124. glory of

  1125. Christ the

  1126. desire of

  1127. your heart

  1128. and your

  1129. fears will

  1130. be banished.

  1131. How do we

  1132. do it?

  1133. Well, it's

  1134. all through

  1135. prayer.

  1136. Patient

  1137. prayer.

  1138. Look at

  1139. verse 11.

  1140. This is

  1141. what we

  1142. need to

  1143. pray.

  1144. We come

  1145. to God

  1146. in prayer

  1147. and we

  1148. say,

  1149. teach me

  1150. your way,

  1151. Lord.

  1152. Lead me

  1153. in a

  1154. straight path

  1155. because of

  1156. my oppressors.

  1157. Do not

  1158. hand me

  1159. over to

  1160. the desire

  1161. of my

  1162. foes.

  1163. For

  1164. false

  1165. witnesses

  1166. rise up

  1167. against me

  1168. spouting

  1169. malicious

  1170. accusations.

  1171. Do you

  1172. see in

  1173. his

  1174. helplessness

  1175. and in

  1176. his

  1177. weakness,

  1178. he leans

  1179. on the

  1180. Lord and

  1181. trusts in

  1182. him.

  1183. Teach

  1184. me.

  1185. So,

  1186. let me

  1187. encourage us

  1188. all,

  1189. don't hide

  1190. your fear.

  1191. It's

  1192. normal and

  1193. natural to

  1194. fear.

  1195. But bring

  1196. all those

  1197. fears and

  1198. cry them

  1199. out to

  1200. God in

  1201. prayer and

  1202. he will

  1203. help you.

  1204. He will

  1205. make your

  1206. path

  1207. straight.

  1208. And as

  1209. we pray,

  1210. we pray

  1211. patiently,

  1212. verse 14,

  1213. wait for

  1214. the Lord,

  1215. be strong

  1216. and take

  1217. heart and

  1218. wait for

  1219. the Lord.

  1220. The Lord

  1221. knows you,

  1222. the Lord

  1223. sees you,

  1224. he hears

  1225. your cry

  1226. and he

  1227. will

  1228. answer.

  1229. He is

  1230. with you

  1231. now and

  1232. one day

  1233. we will

  1234. see him

  1235. forever

  1236. and we'll

  1237. be with

  1238. him.

  1239. So,

  1240. let me

  1241. ask us,

  1242. what is

  1243. your fear

  1244. today?

  1245. What is it

  1246. that is

  1247. gripping your

  1248. heart and

  1249. paralyzing

  1250. you?

  1251. Let's

  1252. come now

  1253. to the

  1254. Lord in

  1255. prayer and

  1256. ask for

  1257. his help,

  1258. that we

  1259. will gaze

  1260. on his

  1261. beauty and

  1262. that the

  1263. desires of

  1264. our hearts

  1265. will be

  1266. focused on

  1267. him.

  1268. Let's do

  1269. that right

  1270. now.

  1271. Tell your

  1272. fear to

  1273. the

  1274. Lord.

  1275. him

  1276. what

  1277. worries

  1278. you

  1279. and

  1280. what

  1281. concerns

  1282. you.

  1283. Tell him

  1284. your

  1285. anxious

  1286. thoughts.

  1287. Ask him

  1288. that he

  1289. will help

  1290. you to

  1291. gaze

  1292. on the

  1293. beauty

  1294. of

  1295. Christ

  1296. who

  1297. has

  1298. given

  1299. us

  1300. life

  1301. and has

  1302. conquered

  1303. death

  1304. who

  1305. reigns

  1306. over

  1307. all.

  1308. Ask

  1309. God

  1310. to change

  1311. your

  1312. heart

  1313. that

  1314. your

  1315. desires

  1316. will be

  1317. for

  1318. him.

  1319. For

  1320. all else

  1321. that we

  1322. have in

  1323. this world

  1324. is

  1325. temporary.

  1326. It

  1327. will not

  1328. last.

  1329. But

  1330. Christ

  1331. is

  1332. eternal.

  1333. thank you

  1334. Lord that

  1335. you hear

  1336. our

  1337. prayer.

  1338. That

  1339. you are

  1340. concerned

  1341. for us.

  1342. Wait

  1343. for the

  1344. Lord.

  1345. Be

  1346. strong,

  1347. take

  1348. heart

  1349. and wait

  1350. for the

  1351. Lord.

  1352. Amen.

  1353. We're

  1354. going to

  1355. sing in

  1356. response

  1357. a song

  1358. that puts

  1359. into words

  1360. what is

  1361. on our

  1362. hearts.

  1363. when I

  1364. fear

  1365. my

  1366. faith

  1367. will

  1368. fail

  1369. Christ

  1370. will

  1371. hold

  1372. me

  1373. fast.

  1374. When the

  1375. tempter

  1376. would prevail

  1377. he

  1378. will

  1379. hold

  1380. me

  1381. fast.

  1382. I

  1383. could

  1384. never

  1385. keep

  1386. my

  1387. hold

  1388. through

  1389. life's

  1390. fearful

  1391. path

  1392. for my

  1393. love is
