  1. 1112. That's the page number.

  2. So it's great to hear Avian's story this morning. Love to hear that.

  3. But I just had to question the beginning as Avian began. She said, I'm not used to public speaking.

  4. Well, I and my wife travelled with Avian six hours to Derry for a wedding.

  5. And I can say Avian is well used to public speaking. Not a problem at all.

  6. And if you want to take a journey and you don't want it to be boring, take Avian with you.

  7. And she'll supply you with good conversation and lots of goodies as well.

  8. So we're going to read from Acts chapter 16, starting at verse 11. It's a very short account.

    Acts 16 chapter mention

  9. True story.

  10. It's the Apostle Paul and some of his companions are travelling.

  11. And they meet a lady called Lydia. So we're going to read from verse 11 through to verse 15.

  12. From Troas, so this is north-west Turkey. From Troas, we put out to sea and sailed straight for Sermothrace,

  13. which was a group of islands in the Mediterranean.

  14. And the next day we went on to Neapolis, which is modern-day Greece.

  15. From there we travelled to Philippi, which was about ten kilometres inland,

  16. a Roman colony and the leading city of that district of Macedonia.

  17. And we stayed there several days.

  18. On the Sabbath, the holy day for the Jews, we went outside the city gate to the river

  19. where we expected to find a place of prayer or to find people who would gather together to pray.

  20. We sat down and began to speak to the women who had gathered there.

  21. One of those who was listening was a woman from the city of Thyatira named Lydia,

  22. a dealer in purple cloth.

  23. And she was a worshipper of God.

  24. The Lord opened her heart to respond to Paul's message.

  25. When she and the members of her household were baptised, she invited us to her home.

  26. If you consider me a believer in the Lord, she said,

  27. come and stay at my house.

  28. And she persuaded us.

  29. Well, I'm going to pray and ask God to help us as we look at his word together.

  30. Let's pray.

  31. Father, thank you for this true account,

  32. recorded for us, written down for us to read today.

  33. And we pray that you would help us to understand what it's teaching us

  34. and how it applies to us

  35. and that we would respond in a way that is good for us and pleases you.

  36. Amen.

  37. Well, we all love a good news story, don't we?

  38. And that's what we have in this text in our reading this morning.

  39. We meet a lady called Lydia who's heard some good news and it changes her life.

  40. In fact, it's the same good news that Avine has heard and changed her life too.

  41. So three things we're going to look at from this short reading.

  42. We're going to look at a good news message, a heart-opening experience,

  43. and a life-changing response.

  44. So a good news message, a heart-opening experience,

  45. and a life-changing response.

  46. So first, a good news message.

  47. Look at verse 13 with me.

  48. On the Sabbath, Paul and his companions went outside the city gate to the river

  49. where we expected to find a place to pray.

  50. And we sat down and began to speak to the women who had gathered there.

  51. I'm sure there was perhaps the usual,

  52. hello, how are you, my name is, what's your name,

  53. where do you come from, what do you do, and so on and so forth.

  54. But there's something specific here, isn't there?

  55. He's speaking to the women.

  56. What was he talking about?

  57. What was his message?

  58. What did he have to share with them?

  59. Well, if we go back just a couple of verses to verse 10,

  60. in the lead-up to this account,

  61. we're told that Paul had a vision.

  62. And we read in verse 10,

  63. after Paul had seen the vision,

  64. we got ready at once to leave for Macedonia,

  65. concluding that God had called us to preach the gospel to them.

  66. You see, Paul was not on a lovely big yacht,

  67. on a luxurious Mediterranean holiday,

  68. sailing all around the Greek islands to sun himself.

  69. No, Paul was on a mission,

  70. sent by God,

  71. to preach the gospel.

  72. Now, the gospel is one of those words,

  73. it's a summary term,

  74. for a good news announcement.

  75. A good news announcement.

  76. And there are three things about this gospel message.

  77. First, it's good news,

  78. and not a vice.

  79. The gospel is not religious advice

  80. about how to be a better person.

  81. Every religion in the world gives advice.

  82. You must do this.

  83. You must do that.

  84. You've got to stop doing this,

  85. and stop doing that,

  86. and achieve this.

  87. Well, the gospel is completely the opposite.

  88. It's a good news announcement

  89. that we have been rescued or saved.

  90. So it's a good news announcement,

  91. not advice.

  92. Second, it's good news of salvation.

  93. Look, if I were going out today

  94. and having a walk by the sea

  95. and the wind and the rain

  96. and got blown off into the water,

  97. I would need saving.

  98. That means,

  99. if I stay where I am,

  100. I'm in danger.

  101. I need to be rescued.

  102. Now, the good news message

  103. is that we can be rescued

  104. from the danger we're all in.

  105. You say,

  106. well, Johnny,

  107. what kind of danger am I in?

  108. Is the roof going to suddenly

  109. blow off this building?

  110. No, I hope it's not going to do that.

  111. The Bible actually makes it very clear

  112. what it is.

  113. We're facing God's promised judgment.

  114. Just flick on a page.

  115. I think it'll just be a page in your Bible

  116. to Acts chapter 17.

    Acts 17 chapter mention

  117. So that's the big 17

  118. and then the smaller verse 31.

  119. Acts 17 verse 31.

    Acts 17:31

  120. This is a little bit later on

  121. in Paul's travels

  122. as he continued to share

  123. the gospel,

  124. the good news.

  125. So in verse 31 it says,

  126. He,

  127. for he that is God,

  128. has set a day,

  129. and we don't know

  130. when that day will be,

  131. but he has set a day

  132. when he will judge the world

  133. with justice

  134. by the man he has appointed.

  135. Well, who's that?

  136. Who's the man

  137. who's going to judge the world?

  138. Well,

  139. he has given proof of this

  140. to everyone

  141. by raising him

  142. from the dead.

  143. That person is

  144. the Lord Jesus Christ

  145. who is going to judge the world

  146. with justice.

  147. Now that's both a good news thing

  148. because we want justice to be done,

  149. but it's also a danger

  150. because, well,

  151. we too will be judged.

  152. Just look at our world

  153. and our lives

  154. and we can see

  155. that all is not well.

  156. The war in Ukraine

  157. and Gaza,

  158. the fallout

  159. between nations,

  160. the divisions

  161. that remain

  162. on the north

  163. of our islands.

  164. But also,

  165. when we look into

  166. our own lives,

  167. we see breakdown

  168. in our own relationships,

  169. we're selfish

  170. in our attitudes,

  171. we're not at peace,

  172. there's an inner turmoil.

  173. So the problem

  174. isn't always out there.

  175. The problem is

  176. in here,

  177. in my heart.

  178. That's what puts us

  179. in danger.

  180. Listen to what

  181. Avine said.

  182. This is a quote

  183. from her story.

  184. She says,

  185. the problem was

  186. I was bad

  187. and I knew I was bad.

  188. It's not that

  189. I didn't want to be good.

  190. I tried,

  191. but I kept on failing

  192. and I knew

  193. I was not good enough

  194. to go to heaven

  195. on my own merit.

  196. I needed

  197. a saviour.

  198. Avine recognised

  199. she needed a rescuer.

  200. You see,

  201. this world

  202. that we live in

  203. belongs to God.

  204. He made it,

  205. he owns it.

  206. And he wonderfully

  207. made you and I

  208. and made us

  209. the way we are,

  210. unique

  211. and beautiful.

  212. And that means

  213. he owns us

  214. as well.

  215. And God

  216. isn't going to let us

  217. go on ruining

  218. our lives

  219. and the world

  220. in which we live.

  221. He's promised

  222. to come and

  223. bring

  224. justice.

  225. A judgement

  226. that will be

  227. fair and right

  228. and will see us

  229. separated from God

  230. and all that is

  231. good.

  232. But the good news

  233. is that we are

  234. saved,

  235. rescued

  236. from that judgement.

  237. We are rescued

  238. from danger.

  239. Well, how are we

  240. rescued?

  241. Well, the third

  242. point is this.

  243. It's good news

  244. about Jesus.

  245. You see, the good news

  246. message here today

  247. is not

  248. stop being bad,

  249. Avine,

  250. stop being bad

  251. and start being good.

  252. No, it's

  253. a good news

  254. message about

  255. Jesus, our

  256. Saviour,

  257. who's come to

  258. restore our

  259. broken lives

  260. and renew

  261. our disordered

  262. world.

  263. And he is the

  264. one who has

  265. achieved the

  266. salvation for us.

  267. And he's done

  268. it in two ways.

  269. By his death

  270. on the cross

  271. and his

  272. resurrection

  273. from the grave.

  274. He saves us

  275. first by his

  276. death.

  277. when Jesus

  278. died on the

  279. cross,

  280. when he was

  281. nailed to the

  282. cross,

  283. he was taking

  284. the judgement

  285. that we

  286. deserve.

  287. I want you

  288. to imagine

  289. that this

  290. blue covered

  291. book that I

  292. have here

  293. is,

  294. well, let's

  295. take Avine

  296. since Avine's

  297. getting baptised.

  298. This is a

  299. record of

  300. Avine's life.

  301. Everything you

  302. want to know

  303. about Avine

  304. from the moment

  305. she was born

  306. until the day

  307. she dies,

  308. everything is

  309. recorded in

  310. this book.

  311. Fascinating

  312. reading.

  313. It would go

  314. off the shelves,

  315. no problem

  316. at all.

  317. All the good

  318. things Avine

  319. has ever done

  320. are written

  321. down.

  322. Everything she's

  323. ever thought,

  324. anything she's

  325. ever said,

  326. are all here.

  327. All her great

  328. public achievements,

  329. all those medals

  330. that she's won

  331. and all those

  332. plaques for

  333. gymnastics and

  334. everything else,

  335. all there,

  336. all the great

  337. things that she

  338. loves to tell

  339. people about,

  340. but also the

  341. private things,

  342. the things that

  343. nobody else

  344. knows about.

  345. It's a bit

  346. like our

  347. record too,

  348. isn't it?

  349. And it means

  350. that this

  351. record of us

  352. stands between

  353. us and God.

  354. And if God

  355. is going to

  356. judge,

  357. it will be

  358. judged by the

  359. record of our

  360. life and we

  361. will not

  362. stand.

  363. So that's

  364. one book,

  365. I want you to

  366. keep that in

  367. mind.

  368. The second

  369. book is this,

  370. I want you to

  371. imagine that

  372. this orange

  373. covered book

  374. is a record

  375. of the life

  376. of Jesus

  377. Christ.

  378. That everything

  379. Jesus did

  380. and said and

  381. thought is all

  382. recorded here,

  383. from his life

  384. to his death

  385. and beyond,

  386. everything written

  387. down.

  388. All the things

  389. he did as a

  390. child,

  391. in the

  392. carpenter shop

  393. where he

  394. worked with

  395. his father,

  396. as he went

  397. about.

  398. But you know

  399. what, as you

  400. read through

  401. the record of

  402. Jesus' life,

  403. you won't find

  404. one thing

  405. that he ever

  406. said or did

  407. or thought

  408. that was wrong,

  409. that was bad.

  410. Could you

  411. imagine?

  412. I mean, we

  413. look at our

  414. own lives or

  415. maybe you have

  416. children, we

  417. don't have to

  418. tell them to

  419. be naughty.

  420. why is it

  421. that they

  422. just are

  423. naughty?

  424. And why

  425. do I, no

  426. matter how

  427. many times

  428. I'm told,

  429. I'm naughty?

  430. Because I'm

  431. not good, I

  432. have a heart

  433. problem.

  434. So, but

  435. Jesus' life

  436. is perfect.

  437. So that's what

  438. happens on the

  439. cross.

  440. We've got our

  441. life and the

  442. record here and

  443. the life of

  444. Jesus.

  445. And what

  446. happens is

  447. there's an

  448. exchange.

  449. Jesus takes

  450. my record to

  451. himself and

  452. the judgment

  453. falls on him

  454. and he's

  455. punished in my

  456. place.

  457. But more

  458. wonderfully than

  459. that, the

  460. record of

  461. Jesus is

  462. transferred to

  463. my life so

  464. that when God

  465. looks at me,

  466. he sees the

  467. record of

  468. Jesus' life

  469. which is

  470. applied to

  471. my life.

  472. Isn't that

  473. wonderful?

  474. that's why

  475. it's called

  476. a good news

  477. story.

  478. The death

  479. of Jesus

  480. rescues us.

  481. And so does

  482. his resurrection

  483. because when

  484. Jesus died,

  485. he didn't stay

  486. dead, he rose

  487. from the grave

  488. defeating death

  489. and giving

  490. eternal life.

  491. You see, none

  492. of us can

  493. escape death.

  494. One day,

  495. sadly, it will

  496. come to us

  497. all, every one

  498. of us in this

  499. room.

  500. And the

  501. most painful

  502. thing about

  503. death, well

  504. it separates

  505. us from

  506. those we

  507. most love,

  508. our friends

  509. and our

  510. family.

  511. But most

  512. of all, it

  513. separates us

  514. from God.

  515. But Jesus, when

  516. he died, he

  517. was placed in a

  518. grave and

  519. three days later

  520. he was raised

  521. again to life.

  522. He crushed

  523. death to

  524. life, to

  525. death.

  526. death.

  527. He destroyed

  528. death for

  529. us so that

  530. we might

  531. have life

  532. forever.

  533. That is a

  534. good news

  535. message.

  536. A message

  537. of salvation

  538. through

  539. Jesus.

  540. Listen

  541. again to

  542. what Avin

  543. said.

  544. This is a

  545. quote from

  546. her story.

  547. She says,

  548. God sent

  549. his son,

  550. Jesus Christ,

  551. to die on

  552. a cross and

  553. take the

  554. punishment that

  555. I deserved

  556. for my

  557. sins, so

  558. that I

  559. could now

  560. be counted

  561. as holy

  562. and righteous

  563. before God.

  564. So, that

  565. is a good

  566. news

  567. message.

  568. Next, a

  569. heart-opening

  570. experience.

  571. Look at

  572. verse 14

  573. with me

  574. in the

  575. story.

  576. Verse 14.

  577. One of

  578. those listening

  579. to this

  580. great gospel

  581. good news

  582. message was

  583. a woman from

  584. the city of

  585. Thyatira,

  586. which was

  587. back in

  588. Turkey.

  589. Her name

  590. was Lydia,

  591. a dealer in

  592. purple cloth.

  593. Now, purple

  594. cloth was a

  595. very expensive

  596. item.

  597. You had to

  598. have a lot

  599. of money if

  600. you had

  601. purple cloth.

  602. So, in

  603. some ways,

  604. Lydia was a

  605. fashion designer,

  606. a fashion

  607. seller.

  608. So, anything

  609. just, I mean,

  610. look at

  611. Avine in

  612. her designer

  613. fashion today.

  614. That kind

  615. of purple

  616. cloth.

  617. And it

  618. tells us as

  619. well that

  620. Lydia was

  621. a worshipper

  622. of God.

  623. We might

  624. call her a

  625. God-fearing

  626. woman.

  627. Lydia was a

  628. very devout

  629. religious person.

  630. She would

  631. say her

  632. prayers and

  633. she would

  634. do good

  635. things.

  636. She was the

  637. kind of

  638. person where

  639. Lydia never

  640. ever missed

  641. church.

  642. She was

  643. always there.

  644. But here's

  645. the point.

  646. It seems

  647. Lydia didn't

  648. know anything

  649. about Jesus.

  650. In fact,

  651. it seems she

  652. never heard

  653. about Jesus.

  654. But when she

  655. heard the

  656. gospel message

  657. from Paul,

  658. as he taught

  659. it, something

  660. dramatic,

  661. something

  662. extraordinary

  663. took place

  664. in her life.

  665. Do you see

  666. what it was?

  667. Look at the

  668. rest of verse

  669. 14.

  670. Look what

  671. happened when

  672. she heard

  673. the message.

  674. The Lord

  675. opened Lydia's

  676. heart to

  677. respond to

  678. Paul's

  679. message.

  680. As the

  681. message was

  682. shared, God

  683. was working

  684. in her life.

  685. God opened

  686. her heart to

  687. believe the

  688. message.

  689. God

  690. is

  691. God

  692. opened.

  693. God

  694. opened, we're

  695. not talking in a

  696. physical sense, but a

  697. spiritual sense.

  698. And it means at least

  699. two things.

  700. If God opens your

  701. heart, it first

  702. means that God

  703. enables you to

  704. see your need of

  705. salvation.

  706. salvation.

  707. You might

  708. respond and say,

  709. well, Johnny, you

  710. know what, I

  711. don't need

  712. rescued.

  713. If you knew my

  714. life, you would

  715. know that I'm not

  716. really a bad

  717. person.

  718. I live a good

  719. life, I'm

  720. kind to my

  721. friends, I

  722. love my

  723. family.

  724. I'm not

  725. perfect, but I'm

  726. certainly not in the

  727. category of Putin or

  728. the Israeli

  729. commanders.

  730. I'm not like

  731. that.

  732. But look at

  733. Lydia.

  734. Lydia, she

  735. was a worshipper

  736. of God, a

  737. religious person,

  738. very devout.

  739. So if there was

  740. one person who

  741. didn't need

  742. rescued, well, it

  743. has to be Lydia,

  744. doesn't it?

  745. But yet God had

  746. to open up her

  747. heart to see her

  748. need of salvation.

  749. Yes, it's true,

  750. even Lydia, a

  751. good person,

  752. needed to be

  753. saved.

  754. You see, left to

  755. our own

  756. assessment, we

  757. will always think

  758. of ourselves more

  759. highly than we

  760. ought.

  761. We have those

  762. inner arguments,

  763. don't we?

  764. And why is it

  765. that we always

  766. come out on the

  767. right side, and

  768. everybody else is

  769. always wrong?

  770. You see, we need

  771. God to open up

  772. our eyes to

  773. enable us to

  774. see just how

  775. desperate we

  776. need to be

  777. saved.

  778. We need God to

  779. open up our

  780. hearts.

  781. And the second

  782. thing that it

  783. would mean is

  784. that God

  785. enables us to

  786. trust Jesus for

  787. salvation.

  788. Again, we might

  789. respond and say,

  790. well, you might

  791. trust in Jesus,

  792. but I'm going to

  793. trust in me.

  794. Jesus might be

  795. one way, but I'm

  796. sure there's lots

  797. of other ways.

  798. I can manage to

  799. save myself.

  800. We always back

  801. ourselves to

  802. rescue ourselves

  803. out of trouble.

  804. Well, no.

  805. Listen to what

  806. the Apostle

  807. Peter said.

  808. It comes a

  809. little earlier in

  810. Acts.

  811. Speaking about

  812. Jesus, he says,

  813. salvation is

  814. found where?

  815. In no one

  816. else.

  817. For there is

  818. no other name

  819. under heaven

  820. given to

  821. mankind

  822. by which

  823. we must be

  824. saved.

  825. It's only

  826. Jesus.

  827. Left to our

  828. own choice, we

  829. will always

  830. choose someone

  831. else or

  832. something else.

  833. But we need

  834. God to open

  835. up our

  836. hearts to

  837. see that we

  838. need him to

  839. rescue us.

  840. So how can

  841. I, how can

  842. we have the

  843. same experience

  844. as Lydia in

  845. this story?

  846. Well, we need

  847. to ask God to

  848. humbly come

  849. before God and

  850. say to him,

  851. please show me

  852. my need of

  853. salvation.

  854. Enable me to

  855. trust Jesus

  856. for salvation.

  857. Listen again

  858. to Avine's

  859. story.

  860. This is what

  861. she says,

  862. Miraculously,

  863. God still

  864. loved me.

  865. He loved me

  866. so much

  867. that he

  868. wanted to

  869. save me,

  870. so he

  871. did.

  872. Just like

  873. that.

  874. He just

  875. saved her.

  876. You see,

  877. this is all

  878. good news.

  879. God opened

  880. Lydia's heart,

  881. he opened

  882. Avine's heart,

  883. he can open

  884. my heart,

  885. he can open

  886. your heart.

  887. There is not

  888. one person

  889. that God

  890. cannot work

  891. in.

  892. So what are

  893. we going to

  894. do about

  895. all this

  896. good news?

  897. Well,

  898. very quickly,

  899. a life-changing

  900. response.

  901. You see,

  902. all this good

  903. news,

  904. this wonderful

  905. message,

  906. demands a

  907. response from

  908. each one of

  909. us.

  910. For Lydia,

  911. it was a

  912. response that

  913. changed her

  914. life,

  915. and a

  916. response that

  917. Avine is

  918. given that

  919. has changed

  920. her life

  921. too.

  922. But what

  923. are those

  924. responses?

  925. First,

  926. Lydia

  927. believed.

  928. The belief

  929. isn't just

  930. simply a

  931. belief,

  932. oh yeah,

  933. this is

  934. true,

  935. but it

  936. was a

  937. belief in

  938. a person.

  939. Have a

  940. look with

  941. me just a

  942. little bit

  943. later on.

  944. Paul,

  945. the same

  946. chapter,

  947. and verse

  948. 30.

  949. Because as

  950. Paul went

  951. about sharing

  952. this good

  953. news,

  954. some people

  955. weren't happy

  956. with him,

  957. and he

  958. ended up in

  959. prison for

  960. talking about

  961. the gospel,

  962. the good

  963. news.

  964. And something

  965. extraordinary

  966. happened.

  967. And the

  968. jailer who

  969. was looking

  970. after them

  971. cries out to

  972. Paul.

  973. Do you see

  974. it at the

  975. end of verse

  976. 30?

  977. This is what

  978. he shouts

  979. out.

  980. He said,

  981. Sirs,

  982. what must

  983. I do to

  984. be saved?

  985. And they

  986. replied,

  987. Believe in

  988. the Lord

  989. Jesus,

  990. and you

  991. will be

  992. saved,

  993. you and

  994. your

  995. household.

  996. Then they

  997. spoke the

  998. word of the

  999. Lord to

  1000. him,

  1001. that is the

  1002. gospel,

  1003. to all the

  1004. others in

  1005. the house.

  1006. Do you see

  1007. that?

  1008. What must

  1009. I do to

  1010. be saved?

  1011. Believe in

  1012. the Lord

  1013. Jesus.

  1014. That means

  1015. entrusting your

  1016. whole life to

  1017. Jesus.

  1018. It's believing

  1019. that you

  1020. need him

  1021. for salvation.

  1022. It's believing

  1023. that when

  1024. Jesus died,

  1025. he died for

  1026. me.

  1027. It's trusting

  1028. that when

  1029. Jesus was

  1030. raised from

  1031. the grave,

  1032. he was

  1033. raised for

  1034. me.

  1035. Again,

  1036. listen to

  1037. Avin.

  1038. She says it

  1039. so well.

  1040. it was

  1041. only by

  1042. faith in

  1043. God's

  1044. grace that

  1045. I would

  1046. be saved.

  1047. So I

  1048. put my

  1049. trust in

  1050. my

  1051. saviour

  1052. Jesus,

  1053. who did

  1054. what I

  1055. could never

  1056. do.

  1057. Lydia heard

  1058. the good

  1059. news message

  1060. and she

  1061. believed.

  1062. But there

  1063. was one

  1064. other response,

  1065. wasn't there?

  1066. Back to our

  1067. story.

  1068. She didn't

  1069. just believe.

  1070. Look at

  1071. verse 15.

  1072. When she

  1073. and the

  1074. members of

  1075. her household

  1076. were

  1077. baptised,

  1078. she invited

  1079. us to

  1080. her home.

  1081. She was

  1082. baptised.

  1083. Now,

  1084. we need to

  1085. be very

  1086. clear about

  1087. this.

  1088. Baptism

  1089. is not

  1090. something you

  1091. do to be

  1092. rescued.

  1093. So Avin's

  1094. going to

  1095. go into

  1096. that tank

  1097. over there

  1098. in a

  1099. little while.

  1100. It's not

  1101. going to

  1102. save her.

  1103. There's

  1104. nothing

  1105. magical

  1106. about

  1107. that

  1108. water

  1109. or

  1110. anything

  1111. else.

  1112. No,

  1113. it's an

  1114. outward

  1115. public

  1116. demonstration

  1117. of an

  1118. inward

  1119. reality,

  1120. of a

  1121. change

  1122. that's

  1123. taken

  1124. place

  1125. in

  1126. her

  1127. life.

  1128. It's

  1129. a

  1130. powerful

  1131. picture

  1132. of

  1133. Avin's

  1134. faith

  1135. in the

  1136. Lord

  1137. Jesus.

  1138. So in

  1139. the

  1140. act of

  1141. baptism,

  1142. two

  1143. things

  1144. are going

  1145. to

  1146. happen.

  1147. Avin

  1148. will

  1149. go down

  1150. into

  1151. the

  1152. water

  1153. and

  1154. as

  1155. she

  1156. goes

  1157. down

  1158. into

  1159. the

  1160. water

  1161. she's

  1162. declaring

  1163. that a

  1164. death

  1165. has

  1166. taken

  1167. place

  1168. for

  1169. her.

  1170. Avin

  1171. is

  1172. announcing

  1173. through

  1174. her

  1175. baptism

  1176. that

  1177. when

  1178. Jesus

  1179. died

  1180. all

  1181. those

  1182. years

  1183. ago

  1184. he

  1185. died

  1186. for

  1187. me.

  1188. And

  1189. then

  1190. second

  1191. as

  1192. Avin

  1193. comes

  1194. out

  1195. of

  1196. the

  1197. water

  1198. Avin

  1199. your

  1200. dad

  1201. Jim

  1202. told

  1203. me

  1204. to

  1205. leave

  1206. you

  1207. down

  1208. a

  1209. little

  1210. bit

  1211. for

  1212. a

  1213. little

  1214. while

  1215. but

  1216. we

  1217. will

  1218. bring

  1219. you

  1220. up

  1221. as

  1222. we

  1223. bring

  1224. up

  1225. Avin

  1226. out

  1227. of

  1228. the

  1229. water

  1230. she

  1231. is

  1232. declaring

  1233. that

  1234. a

  1235. resurrection

  1236. has

  1237. taken

  1238. place

  1239. for

  1240. her

  1241. that

  1242. when

  1243. Jesus

  1244. was

  1245. raised

  1246. from

  1247. the

  1248. grave

  1249. he

  1250. was

  1251. raised

  1252. for

  1253. Avin

  1254. you

  1255. see

  1256. baptism

  1257. is

  1258. symbolizing

  1259. an

  1260. end

  1261. of

  1262. an

  1263. old

  1264. life

  1265. and

  1266. the

  1267. start

  1268. of

  1269. a

  1270. new

  1271. life

  1272. Avin

  1273. is

  1274. saying

  1275. I'm

  1276. no

  1277. longer

  1278. going

  1279. to

  1280. live

  1281. for

  1282. self

  1283. I'm

  1284. no

  1285. longer

  1286. going

  1287. to

  1288. trust

  1289. in

  1290. Avin

  1291. no

  1292. I'm

  1293. going

  1294. to

  1295. live

  1296. a

  1297. new

  1298. life

  1299. to

  1300. live

  1301. for

  1302. Jesus

  1303. and

  1304. I'm

  1305. going

  1306. to

  1307. trust

  1308. in

  1309. him

  1310. remember

  1311. the

  1312. book

  1313. who

  1314. has

  1315. the

  1316. perfect

  1317. record

  1318. given

  1319. to

  1320. me

  1321. so

  1322. I

  1323. can

  1324. live

  1325. for

  1326. him

  1327. baptism

  1328. by

  1329. itself

  1330. will

  1331. not

  1332. save

  1333. rather

  1334. it is

  1335. a

  1336. wonderful

  1337. public

  1338. demonstration

  1339. to

  1340. friends

  1341. to

  1342. family

  1343. to

  1344. all

  1345. who

  1346. are

  1347. gathered

  1348. of

  1349. her

  1350. belief

  1351. in

  1352. the

  1353. Lord

  1354. Jesus

  1355. Christ

  1356. this

  1357. is a

  1358. good

  1359. news

  1360. story

  1361. that

  1362. has

  1363. changed

  1364. Avin's

  1365. life

  1366. no

  1367. she's

  1368. not

  1369. perfect

  1370. you heard

  1371. her say

  1372. she still

  1373. messes up

  1374. and still

  1375. fails

  1376. but she's

  1377. trusting in

  1378. the one

  1379. who will

  1380. keep her

  1381. let me

  1382. finish

  1383. with a

  1384. quote

  1385. from

  1386. Avin's

  1387. story

  1388. she says

  1389. I fail

  1390. every day

  1391. but he

  1392. that's

  1393. God

  1394. renews

  1395. my

  1396. strength

  1397. I can

  1398. go to

  1399. him

  1400. and say

  1401. sorry

  1402. and ask

  1403. for

  1404. forgiveness

  1405. when I

  1406. fail

  1407. and turn

  1408. again to

  1409. him

  1410. and know

  1411. that I

  1412. will not

  1413. be turned

  1414. away

  1415. because

  1416. my

  1417. relationship

  1418. with God

  1419. is not

  1420. dependent

  1421. on me

  1422. or my

  1423. work

  1424. but on

  1425. Jesus'

  1426. death

  1427. and

  1428. resurrection

  1429. this good

  1430. news

  1431. changed

  1432. Lydia's

  1433. heart

  1434. changed

  1435. Avin's

  1436. life

  1437. and can

  1438. change

  1439. any one

  1440. of us

  1441. as we

  1442. trust in

  1443. him

  1444. that

  1445. is a

  1446. good news

  1447. story

  1448. amen

  1449. let me

  1450. pray

  1451. father

  1452. father

  1453. god

  1454. we

  1455. thank

  1456. you

  1457. so

  1458. much

  1459. for

  1460. this

  1461. true

  1462. account

  1463. of

  1464. Lydia's

  1465. life

  1466. and we

  1467. thank

  1468. you

  1469. for the

  1470. way

  1471. it

  1472. reflects

  1473. and

  1474. mirrors

  1475. Avin's

  1476. life

  1477. thank

  1478. you

  1479. that

  1480. she

  1481. got

  1482. to

  1483. hear

  1484. the

  1485. good

  1486. news

  1487. thank

  1488. you

  1489. for

  1490. opening

  1491. Avin's

  1492. heart

  1493. so that

  1494. she

  1495. could

  1496. trust

  1497. you

  1498. and

  1499. thank

  1500. you

  1501. for

  1502. Avin's

  1503. response

  1504. of

  1505. trust

  1506. and

  1507. of

  1508. being

  1509. baptised

  1510. today

  1511. and we

  1512. pray that

  1513. all of

  1514. us

  1515. here

  1516. may

  1517. walk

  1518. in the

  1519. same

  1520. path

  1521. and

  1522. trust

  1523. you

  1524. too

  1525. we

  1526. ask

  1527. we

  1528. ask

  1529. this

  1530. in

  1531. Avin

  1532. is

  1533. going

  1534. to

  1535. get

  1536. baptised

  1537. in

  1538. just

  1539. a

  1540. few

  1541. minutes

  1542. and

  1543. before

  1544. that

  1545. happens

  1546. we're

  1547. going

  1548. to

  1549. sing

  1550. our

  1551. final

  1552. song

  1553. together

  1554. again

  1555. this

  1556. is

  1557. one

  1558. that

  1559. has

  1560. been

  1561. chosen

  1562. by

  1563. Avin

  1564. if

  1565. you

  1566. see

  1567. the

  1568. first

  1569. line

  1570. there

  1571. when

  1572. I

  1573. fear

  1574. my

  1575. faith

  1576. will

  1577. fail

  1578. and

  1579. the

  1580. point

  1581. is

  1582. we

  1583. do

  1584. but

  1585. the

  1586. good

  1587. news

  1588. is

  1589. Christ

  1590. will

  1591. hold

  1592. me

  1593. fast

  1594. it

  1595. it

  1596. it

  1597. for

  1598. it

  1599. can

  1600. it

  1601. you
