  1. Psalm 139 is on page 628.

  2. You have searched me, Lord, and you know me.

  3. You know when I sit and when I rise.

  4. You perceive my thoughts from afar.

  5. You discern my going out and my lying down.

  6. You are familiar with all my ways.

  7. Before a word is on my tongue, you, Lord, know it completely.

  8. You hem me in behind and before, and you lay your hand upon me.

  9. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too lofty for me to attain.

  10. Where can I go from your spirit?

  11. Where can I flee from your presence?

  12. If I go up to the heavens, you are there.

  13. If I make my bed in the depths, you are there.

  14. If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea,

  15. even there your hand will guide me.

  16. Your right hand will hold me fast.

  17. If I say, surely the darkness will hide me, and the light become night around me,

  18. even the darkness will not be dark to you.

  19. The night will shine like the day.

  20. For darkness is as light to you.

  21. For you created my inmost being.

  22. You knit me together in my mother's womb.

  23. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made.

  24. Your works are wonderful.

  25. I know that full well.

  26. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place,

  27. when I was woven together in the depths of the earth.

  28. Your eyes saw my unformed body.

  29. All the days ordained for me were written in your book

  30. before one of them came to be.

  31. How precious to me are your thoughts, God.

  32. How vast is the sum of them.

  33. Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand.

  34. When I awake, I am still with you.

  35. If only you, God, would slay the wicked.

  36. Away from me, you who are bloodthirsty.

  37. They speak of you with evil intent.

  38. Your adversaries misuse your name.

  39. Do I not hate those who hate you, Lord,

  40. and abhor those who are in rebellion against you?

  41. I have nothing but hatred for them.

  42. I count them my enemies.

  43. Search me, God, and know my heart.

  44. Test me and know my anxious thoughts.

  45. See if there is any offensive way in me,

  46. and lead me to the way everlasting.

  47. Thanks very much, Sarah.

  48. So let's keep our Bibles there.

  49. Today, we were hoping John Daunt was going to come and speak.

  50. John hasn't been able to make it.

  51. He's unwell and passes on his apologies.

  52. So that means you've got me again today.

  53. And I thought we would stick with Psalm 139.

  54. So we'll see how we get on this morning.

  55. Let's pray.

  56. Let's pray.

  57. Father, the words that we have just read

  58. are perhaps familiar to us.

  59. So we pray that they may become fresh to us,

  60. light new,

  61. giving us life,

  62. giving us nourishment,

  63. helping us to see

  64. that we are loved, cared,

  65. and treasured by you.

  66. Help us by your Holy Spirit, we pray,

  67. that you would speak to us through your word this morning.

  68. In Jesus' name.

  69. Amen.

  70. Well, the title I've given this psalm today

  71. is Our Personal God.

  72. So I'll give you the headings.

  73. I haven't got a PowerPoint.

  74. So if you're taking notes,

  75. I'll give them as we go along.

  76. So Our Personal God.

  77. I don't know if you know

  78. that the population of the world right now

  79. is 8.1 billion people and counting.

  80. So already today,

  81. there's about 200,000 people

  82. being born around the world.

  83. That's a lot of people, isn't it?

  84. 8.1 billion.

  85. And with so many people

  86. and so big a population,

  87. we can almost feel lost

  88. in the midst of all of that.

  89. Insignificant.

  90. Who am I

  91. in the mass

  92. of all these people?

  93. We can maybe feel a little bit like Wally.

  94. You know Wally?

  95. Wears Wally with his little red and white hat

  96. where you have to search the page

  97. for the one Wally

  98. amidst hundreds of others

  99. that look like him.

  100. And we can maybe feel like that

  101. in this population

  102. and this world.

  103. We're just another person.

  104. A number

  105. in this ever-increasing population.

  106. And in the midst of it all,

  107. we can ask,

  108. does anybody care about me?

  109. Does anybody think about me?

  110. Well, Psalm 139 teaches us

  111. about a God

  112. who is deeply personal.

  113. And he does think about us.

  114. And he cares about us deeply.

  115. The psalm breaks up into four sections,

  116. six verses at a time.

  117. So we're going to look at

  118. four parts to this psalm.

  119. First,

  120. God is intimately knowledgeable about me.

  121. God is intimately knowledgeable about me.

  122. Look at verse one.

  123. You have searched me, Lord,

  124. and you know me.

  125. God knows us.

  126. And he knows us

  127. in all kinds of different ways.

  128. He knows what we are doing.

  129. Look at verse two.

  130. You know when I sit

  131. and when I rise,

  132. when I go out to work,

  133. or when I go out to college

  134. and when I return.

  135. Verse three,

  136. you discern my going out

  137. and my lying down

  138. when I get up

  139. and when I go to bed.

  140. God knows

  141. what we are doing.

  142. God knows

  143. what we are thinking.

  144. Do you see verse two again?

  145. You know when I sit

  146. and when I rise.

  147. You perceive my thoughts

  148. from afar.

  149. Who knows your thoughts

  150. right now?

  151. God.

  152. In fact,

  153. it's even telling us that

  154. before our thoughts

  155. became a thought,

  156. God knew about it.

  157. Isn't that extraordinary?

  158. He knows what we're thinking.

  159. And he knows,

  160. verse four,

  161. what we're going to say.

  162. Before a word is on my tongue,

  163. you, Lord,

  164. know it completely.

  165. He doesn't just hear our words.

  166. He doesn't just know

  167. about our words.

  168. He knows what we're going to say

  169. even before we get them out.

  170. He knows every detail

  171. about our lives.

  172. As it says in verse three,

  173. you are familiar

  174. with all our ways.

  175. I mean,

  176. we think we know ourselves

  177. pretty well,

  178. but no,

  179. God knows us better.

  180. He knows our past.

  181. He knows our present.

  182. He knows our future.

  183. But more than that,

  184. God doesn't just know

  185. about us

  186. in an informational

  187. kind of way

  188. as if God had an exam

  189. to take

  190. and he wanted to,

  191. you know,

  192. how much does God know

  193. about you?

  194. He'd get 100% every time.

  195. No, it's more than that.

  196. He knows us relationally.

  197. Look at verse five.

  198. You hem me in

  199. behind and before

  200. and you lay your hand upon me.

  201. I'm not much of a stitcher.

  202. I do stitch the odd thing

  203. every now and again,

  204. but you know that term

  205. to hem something in

  206. behind and in front

  207. or what does it say,

  208. behind and before.

  209. It's like God has put you

  210. in a pocket of care.

  211. And his hand

  212. is upon you.

  213. God is intimately

  214. bound up with your life.

  215. He's not some distant,

  216. impersonal,

  217. all-knowing being

  218. that just is somewhere

  219. out there.

  220. No, he knows you

  221. intimately

  222. and relationally.

  223. Now what do you do

  224. with a God

  225. like that?

  226. Well, it can be a bit

  227. troubling, can't it,

  228. to think that God

  229. knows all about me.

  230. That God knows

  231. my thoughts

  232. and what I'm thinking,

  233. what I'm saying

  234. and what I'm doing.

  235. Nobody else might know,

  236. but God sees

  237. and knows it all.

  238. That can be pretty scary,

  239. can't it?

  240. But this isn't meant

  241. to leave us in fear.

  242. Look at verse 6.

  243. Such knowledge

  244. is too wonderful

  245. for me,

  246. too lofty

  247. for me to attain.

  248. It's meant to lead us

  249. not in fear,

  250. but in worship,

  251. in amazement

  252. and wonder

  253. at how big

  254. and awesome

  255. and great God is

  256. that he knows

  257. about me.

  258. and that he knows

  259. me relationally.

  260. For those

  261. who are Christians,

  262. we can say,

  263. I know this God

  264. and he knows me.

  265. So first,

  266. God is intimately

  267. knowledgeable

  268. about me.

  269. Second,

  270. God is continually

  271. present with me.

  272. He is continually

  273. present with me.

  274. Look at verse 7.

  275. He poses the question,

  276. where can I go

  277. from your spirit?

  278. Where can I flee

  279. from your presence?

  280. Is there any

  281. possible place

  282. on this earth

  283. that I could go

  284. and God is not

  285. with me?

  286. Well,

  287. look at the answers.

  288. He is with us

  289. in the depths.

  290. Look at verse 8.

  291. If I go up

  292. to the heavens,

  293. you are there.

  294. If I make my bed

  295. in the depths,

  296. you are there.

  297. Not just the depths

  298. in terms of the

  299. struggling hard times,

  300. but it's referring

  301. to the grave itself.

  302. That God is

  303. with me

  304. as I pass

  305. from life

  306. into death.

  307. He's with me.

  308. He's with me

  309. in the distant places

  310. that I might travel.

  311. Verse 9.

  312. If I rise

  313. on the wings

  314. of the dawn,

  315. if I settle

  316. on the far side

  317. of the sea,

  318. even there,

  319. your hand

  320. will guide me.

  321. Your right hand

  322. will hold me fast.

  323. It doesn't matter

  324. where we go

  325. or how far away

  326. we may go.

  327. He has us

  328. in the grip

  329. of His hand.

  330. Not just the depths,

  331. not just distant places,

  332. but He is with us

  333. in the darkness.

  334. Verse 11.

  335. If I say,

  336. surely the darkness

  337. will hide me

  338. and the light

  339. become night

  340. around me.

  341. You know those times

  342. of utter distress?

  343. when life

  344. is so overwhelming

  345. and things

  346. become dark

  347. and we're

  348. despairing?

  349. And even

  350. the best of times,

  351. even the good times

  352. as we look at them,

  353. become dark.

  354. We can be

  355. in those places

  356. sometimes.

  357. But even there,

  358. verse 12,

  359. even the darkness

  360. will not be dark

  361. to you,

  362. for the night

  363. will shine

  364. like the day,

  365. for darkness

  366. is as light

  367. to you.

  368. Even in our

  369. darkest depths,

  370. even in our

  371. distant places

  372. we may go,

  373. God is with you.

  374. North,

  375. south,

  376. east,

  377. and west.

  378. Outside,

  379. inside,

  380. there is no place,

  381. there is no

  382. circumstance,

  383. there is no

  384. experience

  385. that we will

  386. go through

  387. in this life

  388. and God

  389. will not

  390. be there.

  391. 365 days

  392. of the year,

  393. 24-7,

  394. moment by

  395. moment,

  396. the God

  397. who knows

  398. all about you

  399. is with you.

  400. That means

  401. there is nothing

  402. that can happen

  403. or nothing

  404. that we can do

  405. that will

  406. ever be able

  407. to remove

  408. us

  409. from God's

  410. presence.

  411. God will

  412. never ever

  413. turn around

  414. and say to you,

  415. because you

  416. did this

  417. or because of

  418. this,

  419. I am not

  420. going to be

  421. with you.

  422. You will

  423. never hear

  424. that from

  425. God.

  426. Now,

  427. what do you

  428. do with a

  429. big God

  430. like that?

  431. Well,

  432. it should

  433. leave us

  434. astounded

  435. that God

  436. would bother

  437. with an

  438. insignificant

  439. me.

  440. The God

  441. who creates

  442. all things,

  443. who rules

  444. all things,

  445. who knows

  446. all things,

  447. is with me

  448. in every

  449. detail.

  450. He's with you

  451. in your depths,

  452. in the distant

  453. places,

  454. and in the

  455. darkest of

  456. days.

  457. So,

  458. God knows

  459. you.

  460. God is

  461. present with

  462. you.

  463. And third,

  464. God is

  465. wonderfully

  466. creator

  467. of me.

  468. He is

  469. wonderfully

  470. creator

  471. of me.

  472. He gives

  473. the reason

  474. for why

  475. God knows

  476. all about

  477. us,

  478. and the

  479. reason why

  480. God is

  481. present with

  482. us.

  483. It's

  484. because,

  485. look at

  486. verse 13,

  487. for you

  488. created

  489. my inmost

  490. being,

  491. because you

  492. made me.

  493. That's why

  494. God knows

  495. all about

  496. me.

  497. That's why

  498. God is

  499. present with

  500. me,

  501. because he's

  502. the one

  503. who put

  504. me here.

  505. Aren't

  506. these verses

  507. wonderful?

  508. He created

  509. us physically,

  510. verse 13.

  511. You created

  512. my inmost

  513. being.

  514. You knit

  515. me together

  516. in my

  517. mother's

  518. womb.

  519. Verse 15,

  520. my frame

  521. was not

  522. hidden

  523. from you,

  524. when I

  525. was made

  526. in the

  527. secret

  528. place,

  529. when I

  530. was woven

  531. together in

  532. the depths

  533. of the

  534. earth.

  535. When we

  536. were not

  537. even a

  538. thought,

  539. God knew

  540. about us.

  541. Yes,

  542. it took a

  543. mother and

  544. a father.

  545. Yes,

  546. it took an

  547. egg and a

  548. sperm.

  549. But it's

  550. God who

  551. made you.

  552. He made

  553. you who

  554. you are.

  555. And he

  556. formed us

  557. wonderfully.

  558. He not

  559. only created

  560. us physically,

  561. he formed

  562. us wonderfully,

  563. verse 14.

  564. I praise you

  565. because I am

  566. fearfully and

  567. wonderfully made.

  568. Your works,

  569. and we are

  570. part of God's

  571. works,

  572. your works are

  573. wonderful.

  574. I know

  575. that full

  576. well.

  577. Do you

  578. know you're

  579. wonderful?

  580. You're a

  581. wonderful person

  582. because God

  583. formed you

  584. and shaped

  585. you and

  586. gave you the

  587. gifts and

  588. the skills

  589. that you

  590. have and

  591. made you

  592. the kind

  593. of person

  594. that you

  595. are with

  596. your

  597. personality

  598. and your

  599. quirky

  600. ways and

  601. the unique

  602. person that

  603. you are.

  604. He formed

  605. you.

  606. But he

  607. did more

  608. than that.

  609. He ordained

  610. every one of

  611. your days,

  612. verse 16.

  613. Your eyes

  614. saw my

  615. unformed

  616. body.

  617. All the

  618. days ordained

  619. for me

  620. were written

  621. in your book

  622. before one

  623. of them

  624. came to

  625. be.

  626. everything

  627. about your

  628. life from

  629. beginning to

  630. end is

  631. all ordained

  632. and all

  633. known by

  634. God.

  635. Such a

  636. different message

  637. isn't it to

  638. what society

  639. tells us.

  640. It tells us

  641. and teaches us

  642. that we're

  643. nothing more

  644. than a

  645. collection of

  646. cells.

  647. That we've

  648. come from

  649. nowhere and

  650. we're headed

  651. nowhere.

  652. we're just

  653. in a

  654. series of

  655. random

  656. chances.

  657. We just

  658. all happen

  659. to be

  660. here.

  661. And our

  662. job is to

  663. stumble along

  664. in this

  665. crazy world

  666. and try

  667. and make

  668. the best

  669. of things.

  670. But no,

  671. we're so

  672. much more

  673. than just

  674. a random

  675. set of

  676. cells.

  677. God made

  678. me and

  679. designed

  680. me and

  681. shaped

  682. me.

  683. You're

  684. not a

  685. mistake.

  686. Your life

  687. is not a

  688. chance or

  689. an accident

  690. or some

  691. kind of

  692. regret.

  693. God

  694. ordained

  695. your

  696. birthday

  697. and he

  698. has set

  699. your

  700. death

  701. day.

  702. And he

  703. holds it

  704. all in

  705. his hands

  706. from beginning

  707. to end.

  708. All is

  709. under his

  710. good and

  711. sovereign

  712. control.

  713. What do

  714. we do

  715. with such

  716. a big

  717. awesome

  718. God as

  719. this?

  720. Well,

  721. look at

  722. verse 17.

  723. How precious

  724. to me

  725. or how

  726. amazing

  727. to me

  728. are your

  729. thoughts,

  730. God.

  731. How vast

  732. the sum

  733. of them.

  734. Do you

  735. realize and

  736. do you

  737. know that

  738. God

  739. thinks about

  740. you?

  741. It isn't

  742. just us

  743. who just

  744. wonder

  745. and ponder

  746. and think

  747. about God.

  748. No,

  749. God

  750. thinks

  751. about

  752. you.

  753. God

  754. is

  755. concerned

  756. for you

  757. for every

  758. detail of

  759. your life.

  760. And God

  761. has you

  762. here and

  763. he made

  764. you because

  765. he loves

  766. you.

  767. You are

  768. alive today

  769. because he

  770. has purposes

  771. for you in

  772. this time

  773. and in

  774. this

  775. generation.

  776. When you

  777. lie awake

  778. at night

  779. and you

  780. can't

  781. sleep,

  782. just think

  783. and wonder,

  784. does anybody

  785. care about

  786. me?

  787. Well,

  788. the God

  789. who made

  790. you and

  791. the God

  792. who formed

  793. you so

  794. wonderfully,

  795. the God

  796. who ordained

  797. every one

  798. of your

  799. days,

  800. thinks

  801. about you

  802. and is

  803. concerned

  804. for you

  805. because he

  806. loves you.

  807. So God

  808. knows you.

  809. God is

  810. present with

  811. you.

  812. God is

  813. creator of

  814. you.

  815. And then

  816. fourth,

  817. God is

  818. passionately

  819. jealous for

  820. you.

  821. He's

  822. passionately

  823. jealous for

  824. you.

  825. Look at

  826. verse 19.

  827. If only

  828. you,

  829. God,

  830. would slay

  831. the wicked.

  832. Verse 22.

  833. I have

  834. nothing but

  835. hatred for

  836. them.

  837. I count

  838. them my

  839. enemies.

  840. Well,

  841. it's not

  842. what we

  843. expect,

  844. is it,

  845. as we

  846. read through

  847. this psalm.

  848. Where did

  849. these verses

  850. come out

  851. of?

  852. The rest

  853. of the

  854. psalm is

  855. so encouraging

  856. and so

  857. helpful that

  858. God knows

  859. me.

  860. He's present

  861. with me.

  862. He made

  863. me.

  864. But slaying

  865. the wicked,

  866. hating our

  867. enemies,

  868. what's all

  869. that about?

  870. It seems

  871. like David

  872. got as far

  873. as 1 to

  874. 18 one

  875. night and

  876. went to bed

  877. and got up

  878. very cranky

  879. the next

  880. day.

  881. Somebody

  882. upset

  883. him.

  884. We're

  885. very

  886. comfortable,

  887. aren't we,

  888. with verses

  889. 1 to

  890. 18?

  891. We're quite

  892. happy to

  893. read it.

  894. It's the

  895. kind of

  896. thing we

  897. might ask

  898. a non-Christian

  899. friend to

  900. read and

  901. say,

  902. this will

  903. encourage you.

  904. But by the

  905. way,

  906. don't read

  907. verses 19

  908. to the

  909. end.

  910. We kind

  911. of get a

  912. bit embarrassed

  913. about them.

  914. Maybe we

  915. should leave

  916. them out.

  917. Well,

  918. before we

  919. do leave

  920. them out,

  921. I think

  922. there is

  923. something that

  924. teaches us

  925. here.

  926. It seems

  927. that David,

  928. who is the

  929. author of

  930. the psalm,

  931. has a

  932. whole bunch

  933. of enemies

  934. that are

  935. causing him

  936. trouble.

  937. In fact,

  938. they are

  939. wanting his

  940. life.

  941. Verse 19,

  942. away from

  943. me, you

  944. who are

  945. bloodthirsty.

  946. So in

  947. the midst

  948. of his

  949. trial,

  950. in the

  951. midst of

  952. his

  953. depths,

  954. in the

  955. midst of

  956. his

  957. darkness,

  958. he cries

  959. out to

  960. God,

  961. God,

  962. if you

  963. are so

  964. big and

  965. so great,

  966. if you

  967. know all

  968. about me,

  969. and if

  970. you are

  971. present with

  972. me,

  973. and if

  974. you

  975. wonderfully

  976. created me,

  977. then why

  978. don't you

  979. do something

  980. about it?

  981. If only

  982. you,

  983. God,

  984. would slay

  985. the wicked.

  986. If only

  987. you would

  988. deal with

  989. the problem.

  990. after all,

  991. they're

  992. God's

  993. enemies

  994. too,

  995. aren't

  996. they?

  997. Look at

  998. verse 20,

  999. they speak

  1000. of you

  1001. with evil

  1002. intent.

  1003. Your

  1004. adversaries

  1005. misuse

  1006. your name.

  1007. Do I

  1008. not hate

  1009. those who

  1010. hate you,

  1011. Lord,

  1012. and abhor

  1013. those who

  1014. are in

  1015. rebellion

  1016. against you?

  1017. You see,

  1018. the wicked,

  1019. those who

  1020. are intent

  1021. are doing

  1022. evil,

  1023. are not

  1024. just enemies

  1025. of David

  1026. and causing

  1027. him trouble,

  1028. they are

  1029. ultimately

  1030. an act

  1031. against

  1032. God.

  1033. And maybe

  1034. as we

  1035. read this

  1036. psalm and

  1037. we think

  1038. about our

  1039. own

  1040. situation,

  1041. we think,

  1042. well,

  1043. God knows

  1044. about the

  1045. Christians who

  1046. are living

  1047. in Ukraine

  1048. and Russia.

  1049. He's present

  1050. with them.

  1051. He made

  1052. them.

  1053. Why doesn't

  1054. he do

  1055. something about

  1056. it?

  1057. Well,

  1058. the war in

  1059. Palestine and

  1060. Israel and

  1061. all those

  1062. innocent people

  1063. being killed

  1064. every day,

  1065. God knows.

  1066. Why doesn't

  1067. he deal

  1068. with it?

  1069. All the

  1070. other mindless

  1071. things that

  1072. go on in

  1073. this world

  1074. and the

  1075. evil and

  1076. the violence

  1077. and the

  1078. extortion

  1079. and trafficking

  1080. and if

  1081. only you,

  1082. God,

  1083. would slay

  1084. the wicked.

  1085. Maybe you

  1086. have enemies.

  1087. Maybe there's

  1088. things you're

  1089. struggling

  1090. with and

  1091. you're also

  1092. crying out

  1093. to God

  1094. today and

  1095. asking,

  1096. you know

  1097. me,

  1098. you're

  1099. present with

  1100. me,

  1101. you created

  1102. me,

  1103. surely you're

  1104. big and

  1105. powerful enough

  1106. to do

  1107. something about

  1108. it.

  1109. Well,

  1110. God is not

  1111. immune to

  1112. all that is

  1113. going on.

  1114. He does

  1115. see,

  1116. he does

  1117. know,

  1118. and he

  1119. will judge.

  1120. The Bible

  1121. is very clear

  1122. about that.

  1123. But our

  1124. job is not

  1125. to take

  1126. vengeance.

  1127. Our job

  1128. is not to

  1129. play God.

  1130. Instead,

  1131. look how he

  1132. responds,

  1133. verse 23.

  1134. Search me,

  1135. God,

  1136. and know

  1137. my heart.

  1138. Test me

  1139. and know

  1140. my anxious

  1141. thoughts.

  1142. see if

  1143. there is

  1144. any offensive

  1145. way in

  1146. me,

  1147. and lead

  1148. me in

  1149. the way

  1150. everlasting.

  1151. Yes,

  1152. God is

  1153. concerned with

  1154. all that is

  1155. going on in

  1156. the world,

  1157. but God is

  1158. concerned for

  1159. you,

  1160. for your

  1161. heart.

  1162. God will

  1163. take care of

  1164. the big things

  1165. of this world,

  1166. we can be

  1167. sure of that,

  1168. but he's

  1169. concerned for

  1170. your heart

  1171. today.

  1172. The God

  1173. who knows

  1174. us,

  1175. who is

  1176. present with

  1177. us,

  1178. who created

  1179. us,

  1180. longs,

  1181. verse 24,

  1182. that we

  1183. would walk

  1184. in his

  1185. way,

  1186. in the

  1187. way of

  1188. everlasting.

  1189. You see,

  1190. God is

  1191. passionately

  1192. jealous for

  1193. us.

  1194. He does

  1195. know us.

  1196. He saw us

  1197. from the

  1198. beginning of

  1199. time.

  1200. He saw us

  1201. as we

  1202. entered into

  1203. this world,

  1204. and he

  1205. knows our

  1206. need.

  1207. He knows

  1208. our mess

  1209. and our

  1210. brokenness,

  1211. and God

  1212. sent Jesus

  1213. to be with

  1214. us.

  1215. God who

  1216. created the

  1217. universe was

  1218. formed inside

  1219. the mother

  1220. of Mary,

  1221. became one

  1222. of us,

  1223. to be present

  1224. amongst us

  1225. in the mess

  1226. and the

  1227. brokenness of

  1228. this world.

  1229. world.

  1230. His life

  1231. was ordained

  1232. that he

  1233. would come.

  1234. It was all

  1235. planned by

  1236. God before

  1237. the world

  1238. ever existed,

  1239. that he

  1240. would come

  1241. as a person

  1242. into the

  1243. mess and

  1244. the brokenness

  1245. of this

  1246. world.

  1247. And he

  1248. came to

  1249. die for

  1250. us,

  1251. to take

  1252. our blame,

  1253. to take

  1254. our sin,

  1255. to take

  1256. the judgment

  1257. that we

  1258. deserve.

  1259. he faced

  1260. a greater

  1261. enemy,

  1262. the enemy

  1263. of death

  1264. and sin,

  1265. and he

  1266. was victorious

  1267. over them

  1268. all as he

  1269. rose again

  1270. from the

  1271. grave.

  1272. And he

  1273. comes to

  1274. us afresh

  1275. today,

  1276. and he

  1277. says,

  1278. I am

  1279. passionately

  1280. jealous for

  1281. you.

  1282. I died

  1283. for you.

  1284. I loved

  1285. you.

  1286. Follow

  1287. me in

  1288. the way

  1289. everlasting.

  1290. everlasting.

  1291. We may

  1292. only be a

  1293. number to

  1294. some.

  1295. We may

  1296. only be

  1297. one person

  1298. in 8.1

  1299. billion people.

  1300. But you

  1301. are precious

  1302. to God.

  1303. You are

  1304. loved by

  1305. him.

  1306. He knows

  1307. you.

  1308. He's with

  1309. you.

  1310. He made

  1311. you.

  1312. And he

  1313. jealously

  1314. longs for

  1315. you.

  1316. Let's pray.

  1317. Father,

  1318. we

  1319. confess,

  1320. I admit,

  1321. that we

  1322. have only

  1323. scratched the

  1324. surface of

  1325. your awesomeness

  1326. and your

  1327. greatness.

  1328. So would

  1329. you please

  1330. take these

  1331. few thoughts

  1332. that we

  1333. have looked

  1334. up together

  1335. and impress

  1336. them upon

  1337. our hearts

  1338. today,

  1339. that we

  1340. may go

  1341. worshipping

  1342. you in

  1343. wonder and

  1344. praise of

  1345. an almighty

  1346. God,

  1347. to know

  1348. that you

  1349. long for

  1350. us,

  1351. and that we

  1352. would walk

  1353. in your

  1354. paths and

  1355. your way.

  1356. Help us

  1357. now, we

  1358. ask.

  1359. In Jesus'

  1360. name.

  1361. Amen.

  1362. We're

  1363. going to

  1364. sing together

  1365. as we

  1366. finish.

  1367. What love

  1368. could remember,

  1369. no wrongs

  1370. we have

  1371. done,

  1372. omniscient,

  1373. all-knowing,

  1374. he counts

  1375. not their

  1376. sum.

  1377. Let's

  1378. stand together

  1379. as we

  1380. remind

  1381. ourselves

  1382. of the

  1383. awesomeness

  1384. of God

  1385. and worship

  1386. him.

  1387. Thank you.
