  1. for complicated words.

  2. Isaiah 40, 1-11.

  3. Would somebody like to come and read that for us?

  4. Thank you, Louise.

  5. Isaiah 40, 1-11.

  6. Thanks very much.

  7. Comfort, comfort my people, says your God.

  8. Speak tenderly to Jerusalem and proclaim to her

  9. that her hard service has been completed,

  10. that her sin has been paid for,

  11. that she has received from the Lord's hand

  12. double for all her sins.

  13. A voice of one calling in the wilderness,

  14. prepare the way for the Lord.

  15. Make straight in the desert

  16. a highway for our God.

  17. Every valley shall be raised up,

  18. every mountain and hill made low.

  19. The rough ground shall become level.

  20. The rugged place is a plain.

  21. And the glory of the Lord will be revealed.

  22. And all people will see it together,

  23. for the mouth of the Lord has spoken.

  24. A voice says, cry out.

  25. And I said, what shall I cry?

  26. All the people are like grass.

  27. And all their faithfulness is like the flowers of the field.

  28. The grass withers and the flowers fall.

  29. Because the breath of the Lord blows on them.

  30. Surely the people are grass.

  31. The grass withers and the flowers fall.

  32. But the word of our God endures forever.

  33. You who bring good news to Zion,

  34. go up on a high mountain.

  35. You who bring good news to Jerusalem,

  36. lift up your voice with a shout.

  37. Lift it up.

  38. Do not be afraid.

  39. Say to the towns of Judah,

  40. here is your God.

  41. See the sovereign Lord comes with power.

  42. And he rules with a mighty arm.

  43. See his reward is with him.

  44. And his recompense accompanies him.

  45. He tends his flock like a shepherd.

  46. He gathers the lambs in his arms.

  47. And he carries them close to his heart.

  48. He gently leads those that have young.

  49. Thanks so much, Louise.

  50. Please keep your Bibles open there.

  51. As we turn a corner from Christmas time

  52. and think ahead,

  53. we're going to be looking at Isaiah 40.

  54. It's perhaps a well-known chapter to some of you.

  55. And we're going to be looking at it over the next three Sundays

  56. as we think about the new year and what's ahead.

  57. So I'm going to be speaking on verses 1 to 11.

  58. And then Sam next week is going to be speaking in the middle section.

  59. And then I'm going to finish off at the end,

  60. the week after that.

  61. So that's where we're going.

  62. Let's pray.

  63. Father, thank you for your word.

  64. Thank you that it speaks into our lives

  65. and into our circumstances.

  66. And thank you that we can trust

  67. that your word is true

  68. and that your word will do its work

  69. as you have promised.

  70. So we pray that as we look at Isaiah 40 together

  71. over these next few weeks,

  72. you would speak its truth

  73. deep into our lives

  74. so that we may be prepared and ready

  75. for all that you may bring to us

  76. in our life in this coming year.

  77. And it's for our good and for your glory that we pray this.

  78. Amen.

  79. Well, in a few days' time,

  80. it will be the start of a new year.

  81. We're going to leave 2024 behind

  82. and we're going to march out into 2025.

  83. And of course, when it comes to a new year,

  84. if you're anything like me,

  85. we always set out with great hope

  86. that the new year is going to bring better days.

  87. We're going to turn a corner

  88. and things are going to be different.

  89. We think that, yes, a year of less struggles,

  90. a year of better health,

  91. a year of new opportunities.

  92. Well, as we look at our text in Isaiah 40,

  93. God's people were looking into the future

  94. and their hopes, I'm sure,

  95. were for better days.

  96. But it seems they're in for a rude awakening.

  97. Isaiah, God's prophet,

  98. is looking ahead to an event

  99. off in the future

  100. and he's telling the people

  101. that troubles lie ahead.

  102. Look back in Isaiah 39 and verse 5.

  103. This is what he speaks to the nation

  104. through the king.

  105. Isaiah 39 verse 5.

    Isaiah 39:5

  106. Then Isaiah said to Hezekiah the king,

  107. Hear the word of the Lord Almighty.

  108. The time will surely come

  109. when everything in your palace

  110. and all that your predecessors

  111. have stored up until this day

  112. will be carried off to Babylon.

  113. Nothing will be left,

  114. says the Lord.

  115. And some of your descendants,

  116. your own flesh and blood,

  117. who will be born to you

  118. will also be taken away

  119. and they will become eunuchs or servants

  120. in the palace of the king of Babylon.

  121. Babylon was the up-and-coming superpower

  122. of the time.

  123. And he's saying,

  124. they're going to come

  125. and they're going to destroy your city

  126. and they're going to take you

  127. from your homes

  128. and you're going to live

  129. in a foreign land.

  130. Troubles lie ahead.

  131. And it's with these troubles in mind

  132. that God now speaks

  133. through Isaiah chapter 40 verse 1.

    Isaiah 40:1

  134. Comfort, comfort,

  135. comfort, my people,

  136. says your God.

  137. God will sustain you

  138. and help you.

  139. He will strengthen you

  140. and he will keep you.

  141. He will be your comfort

  142. in all of your troubles.

  143. You see, as we step out into 2025,

  144. we're going to go through

  145. all kinds of trials and struggles.

  146. For you it'll be different.

  147. For another it'll be something else.

  148. Yes, there will be good times,

  149. joyful times,

  150. but mingled in between

  151. the normal run of the day

  152. will be days of trouble.

  153. It's the world we live in.

  154. We cannot escape it.

  155. And yet God's message

  156. remains the same.

  157. I will comfort you.

  158. How is this comfort going to come?

  159. Well,

  160. if I can get my notes sorted out,

  161. I'll tell you.

  162. God promises to bring his comfort

  163. to his people

  164. through his word.

  165. God's word of comfort.

  166. In verses 1 to 11,

  167. we hear four voices,

  168. each speaking a word of comfort.

  169. So look at verse 2.

  170. The word is,

  171. speak tenderly to Jerusalem.

  172. Verse 3, another voice,

  173. a voice of one calling

  174. in the wilderness.

  175. And verse 6,

  176. a voice says,

  177. cry out.

  178. And then down at verse 9,

  179. you who bring good news.

  180. So there's four words,

  181. four voices of comfort

  182. that will help us see

  183. that as we face into troubles,

  184. whatever they may be,

  185. we will not do it alone

  186. because God will be your comfort.

  187. He will be your steadfast helper.

  188. He will be your faithful father.

  189. Listen to his word.

  190. And I promise each and every one of you

  191. that you will know the comfort of God.

  192. So let's listen to each of these voices

  193. and see the comfort

  194. that God has in store for us.

  195. The first one may catch us off our guard

  196. and surprise us.

  197. The first is the comfort

  198. of sins forgiven.

  199. Look at verse 2.

  200. Speak tenderly to Jerusalem

  201. and proclaim to her

  202. that her hard service

  203. has been completed,

  204. that her sin has been paid for.

  205. Isaiah is looking into the future

  206. and he knows that God's people

  207. will sin,

  208. that they will disobey God.

  209. But he wants them to know

  210. that when they sin,

  211. there's going to be forgiveness.

  212. Verse 2, end of verse 2.

  213. Her sin has been paid for.

  214. Now you and I need to know this.

  215. Because as we enter into this new year,

  216. we'll make all kinds of promises

  217. of being better and doing better,

  218. that this is the time

  219. I'm going to turn over a leaf,

  220. I'm going to be a better husband,

  221. going to be a better father,

  222. I'm just going to be a better person.

  223. I'm not going to mess up

  224. the way I normally do.

  225. But yes,

  226. we will fail

  227. and we will fall.

  228. We will sin in thought,

  229. word and deed.

  230. And because of our selfish actions,

  231. we will get ourselves

  232. into all kinds of trouble.

  233. It's not that we set out to sin,

  234. but we will sin.

  235. And when we do,

  236. we need to know

  237. that we have a God

  238. who will forgive you

  239. and that

  240. will comfort you.

  241. Now for some of us,

  242. we will find that we will sin

  243. in ways that we never thought possible.

  244. We will be horrified

  245. at our own actions.

  246. Things that we pointed the finger

  247. at others of doing

  248. and condemned others

  249. and sat in our holier-than-thou look

  250. and go,

  251. I would never do that.

  252. And guess what?

  253. We find ourselves doing

  254. those same things.

  255. And it can leave us in despair,

  256. overcome

  257. with a burden of guilt and shame

  258. and think,

  259. God could never forgive me.

  260. How could I fall so low?

  261. But know this,

  262. look at the end of verse 2,

  263. that she has received

  264. from the Lord's hand

  265. double for all her sins.

  266. I don't think that this means here

  267. that they've received

  268. a double punishment

  269. for all their wrongs.

  270. Rather, it speaks of double grace.

  271. In other words,

  272. God is saying,

  273. for all your sin,

  274. I have paid double.

  275. I have covered it twice.

  276. You see,

  277. what has been promised then

  278. has become a reality

  279. even for us today.

  280. Just have a look at Isaiah 53

  281. because this is what he speaks of

  282. a little later on.

  283. Isaiah 53, verse 5.

    Isaiah 53:5

  284. Here he is looking ahead

  285. and speaking of the Saviour to come,

  286. the Lord Jesus Christ.

  287. Isaiah 53, verse 5.

    Isaiah 53:5

  288. Hear this word of comfort.

  289. He was pierced

  290. from my transgressions.

  291. He was crushed

  292. from my iniquities.

  293. The punishment that brought us peace

  294. was on him

  295. and by his wounds

  296. we are healed.

  297. Let's go back to chapter 40.

  298. You see,

  299. this is the word

  300. we need to hear.

  301. What peace

  302. as we step into

  303. 2020,

  304. 2025,

  305. that as we look out

  306. into the future,

  307. that whatever may happen,

  308. God has provided

  309. the means

  310. for the forgiveness

  311. of all

  312. of our sin.

  313. hear God's word,

  314. the comfort

  315. of sins forgiven.

  316. But there's more comfort.

  317. There's the comfort

  318. of coming glory.

  319. Look at verse 3.

  320. A voice of one calling.

  321. What does this voice say?

  322. In the wilderness,

  323. prepare the way

  324. for the Lord.

  325. Make straight in the desert

  326. a highway

  327. for our God.

  328. He's reminding the people

  329. that the Lord

  330. is coming.

  331. And of course,

  332. that has been

  333. partially fulfilled.

  334. God has already

  335. come in the person

  336. of Jesus.

  337. That's what we celebrated

  338. on Wednesday

  339. just gone.

  340. Emmanuel

  341. God with us.

  342. But there's another

  343. coming that I think

  344. he's pointing to

  345. and that we can

  346. look forward to.

  347. The coming of God

  348. in all his glory.

  349. All people

  350. in all the nations

  351. in all the world

  352. will see

  353. his coming.

  354. Look at verse 5.

  355. And the glory

  356. of the Lord

  357. will be revealed

  358. and all people

  359. all the nations

  360. will see it together

  361. for the mouth

  362. of the Lord

  363. has spoken.

  364. You see,

  365. when it speaks

  366. of the Lord

  367. coming in all

  368. his glory,

  369. it's speaking

  370. about his coming

  371. again to restore

  372. and to renew

  373. all things.

  374. He will come

  375. and bring about

  376. the new heavens

  377. and the new earth.

  378. God

  379. God

  380. will come

  381. again,

  382. Isaiah

  383. speaks of this.

  384. Go to the very end

  385. of the book,

  386. Isaiah

    Isaiah 65 chapter mention

  387. chapter 65.

  388. Isaiah 65.

  389. 65.

  390. And here we get

  391. a glimpse

  392. of the new creation,

  393. the glory

  394. that will be revealed.

  395. We'll pick it up

  396. in verse 17,

  397. Isaiah 65,

    Isaiah 65:17

  398. verse 17.

  399. See,

  400. I will create

  401. new heavens

  402. and a new earth.

  403. The former things

  404. will not be remembered.

  405. All those troubles,

  406. they will not

  407. come to mind.

  408. But be glad

  409. and rejoice

  410. forever

  411. in what I will create.

  412. For I will create

  413. Jerusalem,

  414. that is God's people,

  415. to be a delight

  416. and its people

  417. a joy.

  418. I will rejoice

  419. over Jerusalem

  420. and take delight

  421. in my people.

  422. And the sound

  423. of weeping

  424. and of crying

  425. will be heard

  426. in it

  427. no more.

  428. God's coming

  429. will be a display

  430. of his glory.

  431. Every injustice

  432. will be put right.

  433. Every sickness

  434. will be healed.

  435. Every heartache

  436. will be over.

  437. Now,

  438. when we go through

  439. our hard

  440. and difficult days

  441. that are ahead,

  442. when suffering

  443. weighs us down,

  444. when trials

  445. cause us to doubt,

  446. we need the comforting

  447. word

  448. that the glory

  449. of God

  450. is coming.

  451. Life

  452. is not always

  453. going to be

  454. like this.

  455. Look at verse 4.

  456. every valley

  457. shall be

  458. raised up.

  459. Every mountain

  460. and hill

  461. made low.

  462. The rough ground

  463. shall become

  464. level.

  465. The rugged

  466. places

  467. a plain.

  468. It's like

  469. the new

  470. motorway

  471. being built

  472. to ring a skiddy.

  473. Every hindrance

  474. and obstacle

  475. is being removed

  476. to make a

  477. straight road.

  478. Where there's a dip,

  479. it's filled in.

  480. where there's an

  481. obstacle in the way,

  482. it's taken out.

  483. Well,

  484. the first coming

  485. of God

  486. in Jesus Christ,

  487. if you like,

  488. with all that

  489. preparation work,

  490. all the obstacles

  491. and all the

  492. hindrances

  493. are removed

  494. as Jesus comes.

  495. For sin

  496. is paid for

  497. through the cross.

  498. Death

  499. is defeated

  500. by the resurrection.

  501. A highway

  502. has now

  503. been cut

  504. through

  505. for the coming

  506. of God

  507. in all

  508. his

  509. glory.

  510. and when

  511. he comes,

  512. he will

  513. restore

  514. this

  515. disordered

  516. world

  517. and renew

  518. our broken

  519. lives.

  520. What joy

  521. as we

  522. step into

  523. 2025

  524. that a day

  525. is

  526. coming

  527. when

  528. suffering

  529. and sorrows

  530. will be

  531. no more.

  532. It'll all

  533. be over.

  534. Hear

  535. God's

  536. word.

  537. The comfort

  538. of coming

  539. glory.

  540. So the

  541. promise

  542. of sins

  543. forgiven,

  544. the promise

  545. of God

  546. coming in

  547. his glory,

  548. and then

  549. third,

  550. the comfort

  551. in enduring

  552. promises.

  553. Look at

  554. verse 6.

  555. Here's the

  556. third voice.

  557. verse 6.

  558. A voice

  559. says,

  560. cry out.

  561. And I

  562. said,

  563. what shall

  564. I cry?

  565. All people

  566. are like

  567. grass.

  568. All their

  569. faithfulness

  570. is like

  571. the flowers

  572. of the

  573. field.

  574. The grass

  575. withers,

  576. the flowers

  577. fall,

  578. because the

  579. breath of

  580. the Lord

  581. blows in

  582. them.

  583. Surely

  584. the people

  585. are grass.

  586. grass.

  587. The grass

  588. withers,

  589. the flowers

  590. fall,

  591. but the

  592. word of

  593. God

  594. endures

  595. forever.

  596. Do you see

  597. the contrast?

  598. our life

  599. is like

  600. a withering,

  601. dying

  602. flower,

  603. but the

  604. word of

  605. God

  606. endures

  607. forever.

  608. You see,

  609. our lifetime

  610. is short.

  611. 2025

  612. will bring

  613. us all

  614. closer

  615. to our

  616. demise.

  617. We don't

  618. live

  619. forever,

  620. but the

  621. promises

  622. of God's

  623. word

  624. remain.

  625. You see,

  626. the one

  627. thing that

  628. we can

  629. count on

  630. in a

  631. world that

  632. is full

  633. of decay

  634. and trouble

  635. and death

  636. is God's

  637. word.

  638. His promises

  639. will not

  640. fade or

  641. fall.

  642. God's

  643. word will

  644. never

  645. wither or

  646. die.

  647. God's

  648. promises

  649. will be

  650. our

  651. enduring

  652. comfort.

  653. The

  654. promises

  655. of sins

  656. forgiven.

  657. The

  658. promises

  659. of God's

  660. coming.

  661. But there's

  662. more promises

  663. than that.

  664. Maybe

  665. there's one

  666. of these

  667. that you

  668. will

  669. link

  670. to.

  671. The

  672. promise

  673. of God's

  674. presence

  675. when our

  676. loved one

  677. is taken

  678. from us.

  679. The

  680. promise

  681. of God's

  682. grace

  683. when we

  684. are confronted

  685. with our

  686. own

  687. weakness.

  688. The

  689. promise

  690. of God's

  691. peace

  692. when we're

  693. overwhelmed

  694. with worry.

  695. The

  696. promise

  697. of God's

  698. provision

  699. when we

  700. feel we

  701. can take

  702. no more.

  703. The

  704. promise

  705. of God's

  706. steadfast

  707. love

  708. and

  709. faithful

  710. commitment.

  711. What

  712. comfort

  713. for his

  714. people.

  715. You see

  716. this is

  717. what we

  718. need

  719. as we

  720. receive

  721. news of

  722. a cancer

  723. diagnosis.

  724. This is

  725. what we

  726. need when

  727. we discover

  728. our child

  729. is struggling

  730. in school.

  731. This is

  732. what we

  733. need as

  734. we care

  735. for an

  736. aging

  737. parent.

  738. This is

  739. what we

  740. need as

  741. our own

  742. physical

  743. bodies

  744. fade

  745. and fall.

  746. That

  747. God's

  748. word

  749. endures.

  750. His

  751. promises

  752. remain.

  753. He will

  754. sustain

  755. you and

  756. he will

  757. keep you.

  758. Here is

  759. encouragement

  760. for us

  761. as we

  762. step into

  763. a new

  764. year.

  765. Hear

  766. God's

  767. word.

  768. The

  769. comfort

  770. in

  771. enduring

  772. promises.

  773. The

  774. fourth

  775. voice

  776. that

  777. brings

  778. comfort

  779. is the

  780. comfort

  781. we

  782. receive

  783. from

  784. gentle

  785. strength.

  786. Verse

  787. nine.

  788. You

  789. who

  790. bring

  791. good

  792. news

  793. to

  794. Zion

  795. go

  796. up on

  797. a high

  798. mountain.

  799. You

  800. who

  801. bring

  802. good

  803. news

  804. to

  805. Jerusalem

  806. lift

  807. up

  808. your

  809. voice

  810. and

  811. shout

  812. lift

  813. it

  814. up

  815. don't

  816. be

  817. afraid

  818. say

  819. to

  820. the

  821. towns

  822. of

  823. Judah

  824. tell

  825. the

  826. people

  827. of

  828. God

  829. here

  830. is

  831. your

  832. God

  833. but what

  834. is

  835. your

  836. God

  837. like?

  838. What

  839. is the

  840. God

  841. that we

  842. trust

  843. in?

  844. Well

  845. God

  846. is

  847. both

  848. strong

  849. and

  850. gentle.

  851. Do you

  852. see in

  853. verse

  854. 10?

  855. See

  856. the

  857. sovereign

  858. Lord

  859. comes

  860. with

  861. power.

  862. He

  863. rules

  864. with

  865. a

  866. mighty

  867. arm.

  868. And

  869. then look

  870. at verse

  871. 11.

  872. He

  873. tends

  874. his

  875. flock

  876. like a

  877. shepherd

  878. and

  879. gathers

  880. the

  881. lambs

  882. in

  883. his

  884. arms.

  885. Now

  886. we

  887. don't

  888. usually

  889. put

  890. tenderness

  891. with

  892. power

  893. do we?

  894. Or

  895. gentleness

  896. with

  897. might.

  898. But yet

  899. God

  900. declares

  901. that I

  902. am

  903. both.

  904. He

  905. is

  906. strong

  907. and

  908. caring.

  909. He

  910. is

  911. sovereign

  912. and

  913. loving.

  914. This

  915. is

  916. our

  917. comfort.

  918. You

  919. see

  920. God

  921. has

  922. no

  923. weakness

  924. or

  925. frailty.

  926. Let's

  927. read

  928. verse

  929. 10

  930. again.

  931. See

  932. the

  933. sovereign

  934. Lord

  935. comes

  936. with

  937. power.

  938. power.

  939. And

  940. he

  941. rules

  942. with

  943. a

  944. mighty

  945. arm.

  946. See

  947. his

  948. reward

  949. is

  950. with

  951. him

  952. and

  953. his

  954. recompense

  955. accompanies

  956. him.

  957. He

  958. never

  959. sleeps.

  960. God

  961. never

  962. tires.

  963. He's

  964. never

  965. taken

  966. by

  967. surprise

  968. or

  969. he's

  970. not

  971. surprised

  972. at

  973. anything.

  974. He

  975. rules

  976. over

  977. all.

  978. He

  979. has

  980. authority

  981. over

  982. all.

  983. He

  984. is

  985. sovereign.

  986. So

  987. no

  988. matter

  989. what

  990. happens

  991. in

  992. your

  993. life,

  994. no

  995. matter

  996. how

  997. big

  998. or

  999. great

  1000. the

  1001. trouble

  1002. might

  1003. be,

  1004. no

  1005. matter

  1006. how

  1007. hard

  1008. or

  1009. difficult

  1010. or

  1011. overwhelming

  1012. the

  1013. year

  1014. may

  1015. be,

  1016. God

  1017. is

  1018. mighty

  1019. and

  1020. he

  1021. is

  1022. in

  1023. control

  1024. and

  1025. he

  1026. rules

  1027. over

  1028. everything.

  1029. God

  1030. is

  1031. tender

  1032. and

  1033. gentle.

  1034. Verse

  1035. 11

  1036. He

  1037. tends

  1038. his

  1039. flock

  1040. like

  1041. a

  1042. shepherd.

  1043. He

  1044. gathers

  1045. the

  1046. lambs

  1047. in

  1048. his

  1049. arms.

  1050. He

  1051. carries

  1052. them

  1053. close

  1054. to

  1055. his

  1056. heart.

  1057. He

  1058. gently

  1059. leads

  1060. those

  1061. that

  1062. have

  1063. young.

  1064. You

  1065. see,

  1066. God

  1067. is

  1068. filled

  1069. with

  1070. compassion.

  1071. He's

  1072. not

  1073. going

  1074. to

  1075. break

  1076. you

  1077. or

  1078. crush

  1079. you.

  1080. As

  1081. Isaiah

  1082. says

  1083. in

  1084. chapter

  1085. 42,

  1086. a

  1087. bruised

  1088. reed

  1089. he

  1090. will

  1091. not

  1092. break

  1093. and

  1094. a

  1095. smouldering

  1096. wick

  1097. he

  1098. will

  1099. not

  1100. snuff

  1101. out.

  1102. He

  1103. is

  1104. a

  1105. shepherd

  1106. who

  1107. holds

  1108. his

  1109. lambs.

  1110. People

  1111. like

  1112. you

  1113. and

  1114. I

  1115. who

  1116. are

  1117. vulnerable

  1118. and

  1119. fearful

  1120. in

  1121. this

  1122. world

  1123. and

  1124. he

  1125. holds

  1126. us

  1127. close.

  1128. This

  1129. is

  1130. the

  1131. God

  1132. who

  1133. will

  1134. comfort

  1135. us.

  1136. Do

  1137. you

  1138. see

  1139. what

  1140. it

  1141. says

  1142. in

  1143. verse

  1144. 10?

  1145. God

  1146. rules

  1147. with

  1148. a

  1149. mighty

  1150. arm.

  1151. And

  1152. then

  1153. in

  1154. verse

  1155. 11,

  1156. God

  1157. gathers

  1158. his

  1159. lambs

  1160. in

  1161. his

  1162. arms.

  1163. Arms

  1164. of

  1165. strength

  1166. and

  1167. arms

  1168. of

  1169. gentleness.

  1170. I'm

  1171. always

  1172. amazed

  1173. at

  1174. watching

  1175. rugby

  1176. players

  1177. after

  1178. the

  1179. match.

  1180. I

  1181. think

  1182. of

  1183. Bundy

  1184. Aki,

  1185. that

  1186. international

  1187. rugby

  1188. player.

  1189. You

  1190. ever

  1191. look at

  1192. his

  1193. arms?

  1194. They're

  1195. huge.

  1196. He's

  1197. got

  1198. biceps

  1199. the

  1200. size

  1201. of

  1202. watermelons.

  1203. And

  1204. with all

  1205. his

  1206. power

  1207. and

  1208. with

  1209. all

  1210. his

  1211. might

  1212. he

  1213. bashes

  1214. and

  1215. tackles

  1216. the

  1217. opposition.

  1218. But

  1219. then

  1220. after

  1221. the

  1222. match

  1223. you

  1224. see

  1225. him

  1226. walking

  1227. around

  1228. holding

  1229. his

  1230. young

  1231. daughter

  1232. in

  1233. his

  1234. arms.

  1235. Tender,

  1236. caring,

  1237. gentle

  1238. strength.

  1239. You

  1240. see,

  1241. when

  1242. we're

  1243. overwhelmed

  1244. by the

  1245. terrors

  1246. of this

  1247. world

  1248. and the

  1249. troubles

  1250. that

  1251. come,

  1252. when we

  1253. are

  1254. struggling

  1255. with our

  1256. fears

  1257. and our

  1258. worries,

  1259. we

  1260. have a

  1261. God

  1262. who is

  1263. both

  1264. powerful

  1265. and

  1266. mighty,

  1267. but

  1268. tender

  1269. and

  1270. caring.

  1271. What a

  1272. blessing

  1273. as we

  1274. step out

  1275. into

  1276. 2025.

  1277. Hear

  1278. God's

  1279. word,

  1280. the

  1281. comfort

  1282. that

  1283. comes

  1284. from

  1285. gentle

  1286. strength.

  1287. You

  1288. see,

  1289. this

  1290. year

  1291. I

  1292. trust

  1293. will

  1294. bring

  1295. good

  1296. times

  1297. and

  1298. joyful

  1299. times.

  1300. We

  1301. will

  1302. laugh

  1303. together,

  1304. but

  1305. mingled

  1306. through

  1307. the

  1308. months

  1309. and

  1310. the

  1311. weeks

  1312. will

  1313. be

  1314. days

  1315. of

  1316. trouble.

  1317. Some

  1318. of us

  1319. will

  1320. go

  1321. through

  1322. hard

  1323. times,

  1324. some

  1325. of us

  1326. it

  1327. won't

  1328. be

  1329. so

  1330. bad,

  1331. but

  1332. yet

  1333. whatever

  1334. we

  1335. go

  1336. through,

  1337. we

  1338. are

  1339. all

  1340. going

  1341. to

  1342. need

  1343. the

  1344. comfort

  1345. of

  1346. our

  1347. God.

  1348. He

  1349. is

  1350. for

  1351. you

  1352. and

  1353. not

  1354. against

  1355. you.

  1356. Do you

  1357. see the

  1358. second

  1359. part of

  1360. verse

  1361. 10?

  1362. see

  1363. his

  1364. reward

  1365. is

  1366. with

  1367. him

  1368. and

  1369. his

  1370. recompense

  1371. accompanies

  1372. him.

  1373. The

  1374. picture

  1375. there

  1376. is

  1377. of

  1378. a

  1379. king

  1380. who's

  1381. conquered

  1382. his

  1383. enemy

  1384. and

  1385. as

  1386. he

  1387. returns

  1388. in

  1389. victory

  1390. he

  1391. shares

  1392. the

  1393. riches

  1394. and

  1395. the

  1396. spoils

  1397. with

  1398. his

  1399. people.

  1400. He

  1401. blesses

  1402. them

  1403. in

  1404. abundance.

  1405. Well

  1406. our

  1407. God

  1408. is

  1409. victorious

  1410. in

  1411. our

  1412. troubles.

  1413. He

  1414. is

  1415. never

  1416. overcome

  1417. and

  1418. he

  1419. will

  1420. share

  1421. of

  1422. the

  1423. rich

  1424. resources

  1425. that

  1426. is

  1427. his

  1428. and

  1429. he

  1430. will

  1431. pour

  1432. out

  1433. his

  1434. comfort

  1435. upon

  1436. you

  1437. every

  1438. moment

  1439. of

  1440. every

  1441. day.

  1442. How

  1443. will

  1444. we

  1445. experience

  1446. this

  1447. comfort?

  1448. Well

  1449. have

  1450. you

  1451. got

  1452. your

  1453. little

  1454. card?

  1455. that

  1456. puts

  1457. together

  1458. the

  1459. theme

  1460. of

  1461. what

  1462. we've

  1463. looked

  1464. at

  1465. this

  1466. morning.

  1467. Just

  1468. pick it

  1469. up
