  1. Do you want a drink?

  2. Good morning everyone, nice to see you.

  3. ! Please turn in your Bibles to 2 Corinthians.

  4. To help us in our studies, this new series, there's a little booklet, 2 Corinthians, and

  5. the big theme is, weakness is our strength.

  6. We tend to think that weakness is our weakness.

  7. Weakness is our strength.

  8. So please do take your copy of that, it will help you know some of the themes and some

  9. of the big ideas as we go along.

  10. We're going to read this morning our text, which is chapter 1, verse 3, down to verse 11.

    Isaiah 1:3

  11. 2 Corinthians, chapter 1, verse 3 to verse 11.

    2 Corinthians 1:3

  12. Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the

  13. God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in

  14. any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.

  15. For just as we share abundantly in the sufferings of Christ, so also our comfort abounds through Christ.

  16. If we are distressed.

  17. If we are distressed, it is for your comfort and salvation.

  18. If we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which produces in you patient endurance of the same sufferings we suffer.

  19. And our hope for you is firm.

  20. Because we know that just as you share in our sufferings, so also you share in our comfort.

  21. We do not want you to be uninformed, brothers and sisters, about the troubles we experienced in the province of Asia.

  22. We were under great pressure, far beyond our ability to endure, so that we despaired of life itself.

  23. Indeed, we felt we had received a sentence of death.

  24. But this happened that we might not rely on ourselves, but on God, who raises the dead.

  25. He has delivered us from such deadly peril, and he will deliver us again.

  26. On him we have set our hope that he will continue to deliver us, as you help us by your prayers.

  27. Then many will give thanks on our behalf for the gracious favour granted us in answer to the prayers of many.

  28. Well, this ancient letter written by Paul to a church in Corinth is also a word for us today.

  29. So we're going to pray and ask for God's help, and we'll look at it together.

  30. Father, thank you for the privilege of gathering together today to hear your word, your wisdom, your truth.

  31. Father, thank you for the privilege of having us.

  32. Father, thank you for the privilege of having us.

  33. That we are.

  34. That we are.

  35. That we are.

  36. That we are.

  37. And that we will learn much together.

  38. And that we will be blessed as a church family.

  39. So be our teacher through me as I speak.

  40. And bring glory to your name.

  41. Amen.

  42. Amen.

  43. Well, Corinth was the church of big dreams and great hopes.

  44. It was the kind of church you just might want to go to.

  45. Their speakers were very impressive.

  46. Their ministries were attractive.

  47. They prized success and they praised the influential.

  48. It was a church of the movers and shakers.

  49. No room for weak and fragile people.

  50. Corinth was the church of no troubles.

  51. Sounds great, doesn't it?

  52. We might even secretly want to be part of a church like that.

  53. Could you imagine a church of no troubles?

  54. However, there's something they've forgotten.

  55. The Christian life and Christian service is full of troubles.

  56. But don't panic.

  57. Don't run out the door.

  58. Because what we'll discover is God uses our troubles to achieve good purposes in our lives.

  59. And in the lives of others.

  60. So as we look at the text together.

  61. Let's see first that our troubles will be many.

  62. Look at verse 4.

  63. The God of all comfort who comforts us in all our troubles.

  64. So that we can comfort those in any trouble.

  65. 17 times if you were to count.

  66. There is a reference in this text to our troubles.

  67. Sometimes it's described as suffering.

  68. Distress.

  69. Pressure.

  70. Despair.

  71. Death.

  72. Deadly peril.

  73. It's telling us that our troubles will come to each one of us.

  74. In all kinds of shapes and sizes.

  75. It could be a physical illness.

  76. It could be a broken relationship.

  77. Or family opposition.

  78. It might be worries for your children.

  79. Or fears about the future.

  80. But whatever our trouble.

  81. We can't hide from them.

  82. And we can't avoid them.

  83. In fact.

  84. Look at verse 8.

  85. We are to face their reality.

  86. Verse 8.

  87. We do not want you to be uninformed brothers and sisters.

  88. About the troubles we experienced in the province of Asia.

  89. I want you to know about them.

  90. Let's talk about them.

  91. Let's share about them.

  92. Now for many of you.

  93. This is deeply personal.

  94. It's not that you anticipate sufferings to come.

  95. But you are in the depths of trouble.

  96. The depths of trouble right now.

  97. Some of you I know are living with affliction.

  98. There are thorns in your life.

  99. There are thorns in your life.

  100. That have not yet been removed.

  101. And it's painful.

  102. Our troubles are many.

  103. The second thing we want to learn is.

  104. Our troubles are not wasted.

  105. Most of the time we can't see any good in our troubles.

  106. We complain and we give off.

  107. There's something to pray away as quickly as possible.

  108. Lord remove this suffering.

  109. End this distress.

  110. Stop the pressure.

  111. Just take it away.

  112. Yet so often.

  113. The troubles remain.

  114. And that raises all kinds of questions for us.

  115. Doesn't it?

  116. Not least.

  117. Why does God allow all these troubles?

  118. Well that's a big question.

  119. And I'm happy to try and explore it with you afterwards.

  120. Our text doesn't give a direct answer to that question.

  121. But it does give us purposes.

  122. That the reason why.

  123. We go through these troubles.

  124. Is God has a purpose.

  125. And here it is.

  126. In the hands of God.

  127. Our troubles produce good.

  128. In others.

  129. Growth in us.

  130. And glory.

  131. To God.

  132. In other words.

  133. With God.

  134. Our troubles are never.

  135. Wasted.

  136. In the hands of God.

  137. Our troubles produce.

  138. Good in others.

  139. Growth in us.

  140. And glory to God.

  141. God has good purposes.

  142. In them.

  143. And through them.

  144. So let's look.

  145. At some of the purposes.

  146. Of God's.

  147. Allowing troubles.

  148. In our life.

  149. Here's the first.

  150. Our troubles lead us.

  151. To experience.

  152. The comfort of God.

  153. First we experience.

  154. Comfort.

  155. Verse three.

  156. Praise be to the God.

  157. And father.

  158. Of our Lord Jesus Christ.

  159. The father.

  160. Of compassion.

  161. And the God.

  162. Of all.

  163. All.

  164. Comfort.

  165. Who comforts us.

  166. In.

  167. All.

  168. Our troubles.

  169. God is not immune.

  170. To our sufferings.

  171. He cares for us.

  172. He cares for you.

  173. God might not always.

  174. Remove the trouble.

  175. But we are guaranteed.

  176. And assured.

  177. He comforts us.

  178. In.

  179. Our trouble.

  180. He brings peace.

  181. In the storm.

  182. Light.

  183. In the darkness.

  184. Joy.

  185. In the hurts.

  186. And hopes.

  187. In the fears.

  188. God.

  189. Our comforter.

  190. Is our.

  191. Rock.

  192. And our refuge.

  193. And our redeemer.

  194. If you're.

  195. Facing.

  196. Trouble today.

  197. If you're.

  198. In that moment.

  199. Right now.

  200. Let me.

  201. Reassure you.

  202. That God.

  203. Is your.

  204. Comfort.

  205. Listen.

  206. To these words.

  207. From Isaiah.

  208. 49.

  209. Verse 13.

  210. Shout.

  211. For joy.

  212. You heavens.

  213. Rejoice.

  214. You earth.

  215. Burst into song.

  216. You mountains.

  217. Why?

  218. For the Lord.

  219. For the Lord.

  220. Comforts.

  221. His people.

  222. And will have compassion.

  223. On his afflicted ones.

  224. God.

  225. Our father.

  226. Is our comforter.

  227. He sees our hopelessness.

  228. And our helplessness.

  229. and he comforts.

  230. But we also comfort each other, don't we?

  231. Verse 4.

  232. Or let's pick it up at the end of verse 3.

  233. The God of all comfort

  234. who comforts us in all of our troubles

  235. so that we can comfort those in any trouble

  236. with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.

  237. That's the purpose of our troubles.

  238. The comforted now become comforters.

  239. We've experienced compassion

  240. so that we can be compassionate to others.

  241. We receive the comfort of God

  242. so that we can comfort one another,

  243. our brothers and sisters in Christ.

  244. Now this helps us to see our troubles

  245. from God's perspective,

  246. with God's eyes.

  247. So we experience trouble

  248. for the comfort of others.

  249. Look at verse 5.

  250. For just as we share abundantly

  251. in the sufferings of Christ,

  252. so also our comfort abounds through Christ.

  253. You see, Christ's death on the cross

  254. was not empty or meaningless.

  255. There was a purpose, wasn't there,

  256. for Christ's sufferings.

  257. A purpose for taking on our sin on himself

  258. and bearing the judgment of God.

  259. The purpose of Christ dying on the cross

  260. was to bring us comfort.

  261. Through the sufferings of Christ,

  262. we receive forgiveness of sins,

  263. peace with God,

  264. the assurance of eternal life.

  265. The purpose of Christ's sufferings

  266. leads directly to our comfort.

  267. So, verse 5,

  268. just as we share abundantly

  269. in the sufferings of Christ,

  270. just as we follow him and suffer,

  271. so also our comfort abounds through Christ.

  272. In other words,

  273. whatever the trouble is,

  274. it will be matched by comfort.

  275. In fact, the greater the trouble,

  276. the greater the comfort of God.

  277. We're given an example in verse 6.

  278. If we are distressed,

  279. it is for your comfort and salvation.

  280. If we are comforted,

  281. it is for your comfort.

  282. Now, we get the second part of that,

  283. don't we?

  284. If I'm comforted,

  285. well, I can comfort you,

  286. and vice versa.

  287. We get that.

  288. But look how it starts.

  289. If we are distressed,

  290. it's for your comfort.

  291. If I go through a trouble,

  292. or a hardship,

  293. or a distress,

  294. there's a purpose for it.

  295. It's so that I can comfort others

  296. when they go through their suffering.

  297. In fact,

  298. as comforters of one another,

  299. look what we do for one another.

  300. Do you see what it says in verse 6?

  301. It is for your comfort and salvation.

  302. The comfort we receive

  303. produces in you

  304. patient endurance

  305. of the same sufferings we suffer.

  306. Do you realize how beneficial

  307. your comfort is to one another?

  308. brother,

  309. your comfort,

  310. your comfort

  311. to another brother and sister,

  312. not only comforts them,

  313. it leads and guarantees

  314. their full and final salvation.

  315. it leads to their patient endurance

  316. in their troubles.

  317. troubles.

  318. Because let's face it,

  319. when we go through a trouble,

  320. what do we do?

  321. We want to give up.

  322. I can't go through this anymore.

  323. But someone coming alongside,

  324. comforting you,

  325. will help you

  326. to keep looking to Christ

  327. so that they don't fall away.

  328. And the comfort will ensure

  329. that you will patiently endure

  330. and keep walking by faith

  331. step by step

  332. until you receive

  333. and enjoy God's salvation

  334. in all its fullness.

  335. So what will this comfort look like?

  336. How do we comfort one another

  337. with the comfort of God?

  338. Well, let me suggest three things.

  339. They're not on the overhead,

  340. but here they are.

  341. Three Ps.

  342. Here we go.

  343. First, presence.

  344. What we need

  345. is the presence

  346. of a brother or sister in Christ.

  347. Have a look at chapter 7,

  348. verse 5.

  349. If we are going to bring

  350. the comfort of God

  351. to one another,

  352. here's how.

  353. Chapter 7, verse 5.

  354. Paul is reminding them.

  355. He says,

  356. When we came into Macedonia,

  357. we had no rest,

  358. but we were harassed

  359. at every turn.

  360. Conflicts on the outside,

  361. fears within.

  362. Now that's trouble, right?

  363. Conflicts on the outside,

  364. fears within.

  365. But God,

  366. who comforts the downcast,

  367. comforted us.

  368. How?

  369. By the coming of Titus.

  370. Thank you, God,

  371. for bringing Titus

  372. to comfort us.

  373. You see,

  374. knowing that we are not alone,

  375. that some brother or sister

  376. can listen

  377. and sit with us.

  378. Not send an emoji,

  379. but sit with us.

  380. That someone cares.

  381. That someone matters.

  382. So first,

  383. the presence

  384. of being with someone.

  385. Second,

  386. as we are present with them,

  387. we bring the promises of God.

  388. Look at chapter 4,

  389. verse 16.

  390. We comfort one another

  391. by reminding one another

  392. of God's amazing promises.

  393. So in the midst of our suffering

  394. and trouble,

  395. verse 16,

  396. therefore we do not lose heart.

  397. Though outwardly

  398. we are wasting away,

  399. physically we may be getting old

  400. and things are going wrong.

  401. But yet inwardly,

  402. we are being renewed

  403. day by day.

  404. God is doing a work

  405. in our life.

  406. So we can say,

  407. verse 17,

  408. that our light

  409. and momentary troubles

  410. are achieving for us

  411. an eternal glory

  412. that far outweighs them all.

  413. Our troubles

  414. may feel weighty

  415. and heavy

  416. and burdensome

  417. right now,

  418. but in the line

  419. of eternity,

  420. they're just a speck,

  421. a blink of an eye.

  422. And they are

  423. achieving for us.

  424. God is working

  425. in them

  426. and through them

  427. to bring us

  428. to eternal glory.

  429. what a wonderful promise

  430. to bring

  431. to one another.

  432. Not only as we're present

  433. do we bring the promises

  434. of his word,

  435. but we pray

  436. for each other.

  437. We comfort

  438. each other

  439. as we pray

  440. for God's grace

  441. and help.

  442. Go back to chapter 1,

  443. the end of verse 10.

  444. Paul says,

  445. on Christ

  446. we have set

  447. our hope

  448. that he will

  449. continue to deliver us

  450. as you

  451. help us

  452. by your

  453. prayers.

  454. The significance

  455. and the importance

  456. of physically

  457. being with

  458. somebody,

  459. speaking the words

  460. of God's promise

  461. and praying

  462. for them

  463. that they would

  464. experience

  465. and know

  466. the grace

  467. and help

  468. of God.

  469. You see,

  470. our troubles

  471. in the hands

  472. of God

  473. are never wasted.

  474. Picture

  475. a waterfall,

  476. Niagara Falls

  477. if you like,

  478. and at the base

  479. is this huge

  480. deep pool

  481. and flowing

  482. from it,

  483. overflowing,

  484. it goes into

  485. a series

  486. of other pools

  487. and rivers.

  488. Well,

  489. the comfort

  490. of God

  491. is like this

  492. enormous waterfall

  493. flowing down,

  494. filling us

  495. with comfort

  496. through Christ

  497. so that we

  498. in turn

  499. can fill

  500. each other

  501. with the comfort

  502. of God.

  503. Our troubles

  504. lead us

  505. to experience

  506. God's comfort.

  507. second,

  508. our troubles

  509. lead us

  510. to trust

  511. the deliverance

  512. of God.

  513. Let's go

  514. to verse

  515. eight.

  516. We do not

  517. want you

  518. to be

  519. uninformed,

  520. brothers and

  521. sisters,

  522. about the

  523. troubles

  524. we experienced

  525. in the province

  526. of Asia.

  527. We were

  528. under

  529. great

  530. pressure,

  531. far beyond

  532. our ability

  533. to endure

  534. so that we

  535. despaired

  536. of life

  537. itself.

  538. Now,

  539. I know

  540. that some

  541. of you

  542. have faced

  543. days like

  544. that,

  545. days of

  546. great

  547. darkness.

  548. The weight

  549. of suffering

  550. is so much

  551. it's overwhelming

  552. and we

  553. just long

  554. for life

  555. to be

  556. over.

  557. Have you

  558. ever felt

  559. like that?

  560. We cry

  561. out,

  562. God,

  563. make it

  564. stop.

  565. Well,

  566. in God's

  567. mysterious

  568. ways,

  569. he uses

  570. those very

  571. troubles

  572. to grow

  573. our trust.

  574. look at

  575. verse 9.

  576. Indeed,

  577. we felt

  578. we had

  579. received

  580. the

  581. sentence

  582. of death.

  583. But this

  584. happened

  585. that we

  586. might not

  587. rely on

  588. ourselves,

  589. but on

  590. God who

  591. raises

  592. the dead.

  593. There's

  594. the purpose

  595. for our

  596. troubles,

  597. so that we

  598. would not

  599. trust

  600. in our

  601. own

  602. ability,

  603. but in

  604. our

  605. utter

  606. weakness,

  607. trust the

  608. one who

  609. can

  610. raise

  611. the

  612. dead.

  613. You see,

  614. when you

  615. and I

  616. are overwhelmed

  617. by life,

  618. when we

  619. have no

  620. strength

  621. left,

  622. when we

  623. are in

  624. despair

  625. of life

  626. itself,

  627. who are

  628. we going

  629. to trust?

  630. Am I

  631. going to

  632. put my

  633. hope in

  634. the weak,

  635. despairing,

  636. broken

  637. Johnny

  638. Grant?

  639. am I

  640. going to

  641. depend on

  642. myself and

  643. say,

  644. come on

  645. Johnny,

  646. do better,

  647. pull yourself

  648. up?

  649. Or am I

  650. going to

  651. rest and

  652. fall into

  653. the arms of

  654. God who

  655. has the

  656. power to

  657. raise the

  658. dead?

  659. You see,

  660. the purpose

  661. of our

  662. troubles is

  663. to tear

  664. us from

  665. self-trust

  666. to trust

  667. in God.

  668. You know

  669. what Velcro

  670. is like?

  671. You know

  672. that ripping

  673. sound as

  674. you pull

  675. it apart?

  676. Our

  677. troubles pull

  678. us from

  679. trust in

  680. self to

  681. stick,

  682. to be

  683. glued to

  684. God.

  685. And

  686. so we

  687. experience

  688. trouble,

  689. we rely

  690. on God

  691. and we

  692. are

  693. assured

  694. of

  695. deliverance.

  696. Paul and

  697. his

  698. co-workers

  699. had

  700. experienced

  701. life-threatening

  702. trouble,

  703. but he

  704. was confident

  705. that God

  706. would see

  707. him through,

  708. verse 10.

  709. he could

  710. declare

  711. very clearly

  712. he has

  713. delivered us

  714. from such

  715. a deadly

  716. peril

  717. and he

  718. will

  719. deliver us

  720. again.

  721. He has

  722. seen us

  723. through in

  724. the past,

  725. he's going

  726. to help

  727. us in

  728. the future,

  729. therefore,

  730. look at the

  731. rest of

  732. verse 10,

  733. on him

  734. we have

  735. set our

  736. hope that

  737. he will

  738. continue

  739. to deliver

  740. us.

  741. But how

  742. do I

  743. know?

  744. How can

  745. you be

  746. sure

  747. that whatever

  748. trouble we

  749. go through

  750. God is

  751. going to

  752. deliver us?

  753. What if

  754. the troubles

  755. are so

  756. great?

  757. What if

  758. they are so

  759. overwhelming

  760. and I can't

  761. even pray?

  762. Will God

  763. deliver me

  764. then?

  765. Yes

  766. and a

  767. thousand

  768. times

  769. yes.

  770. And here's

  771. how.

  772. Remember

  773. the time

  774. we live

  775. in.

  776. We live

  777. in a

  778. time after

  779. the first

  780. coming of

  781. Christ

  782. and we

  783. live at a

  784. time before

  785. the return

  786. of Christ.

  787. Christ has

  788. come and

  789. Christ will

  790. come and

  791. we're somewhere

  792. along that

  793. line.

  794. Now look at

  795. the next,

  796. look at the

  797. text in

  798. verse 10.

  799. he has

  800. delivered us

  801. from such

  802. deadly peril.

  803. Through

  804. the death

  805. of Christ

  806. he has

  807. delivered us

  808. from the

  809. greatest of

  810. all deadly

  811. perils.

  812. Christ

  813. delivered us

  814. from judgment

  815. and hell

  816. as he died

  817. on the cross

  818. and he's

  819. freed us

  820. from an

  821. eternal

  822. suffering.

  823. And

  824. verse 10

  825. he will

  826. deliver us

  827. again.

  828. Christ has

  829. promised to

  830. come in

  831. the future.

  832. We don't

  833. know when

  834. but when

  835. he does

  836. he will

  837. deliver us

  838. from this

  839. broken world

  840. so that we

  841. will enjoy

  842. life in

  843. his eternal

  844. kingdom.

  845. Think of

  846. it this

  847. way.

  848. What's the

  849. worst thing

  850. our troubles

  851. could ever

  852. do to us?

  853. well it's

  854. that we

  855. could die.

  856. In fact

  857. we all

  858. will die.

  859. All our

  860. troubles that

  861. we live

  862. through in

  863. this life

  864. one day

  865. the trouble

  866. will come

  867. that will

  868. lead us

  869. to the

  870. grave.

  871. But just

  872. as Christ

  873. was raised

  874. so we

  875. who are

  876. in Christ

  877. will also

  878. be raised.

  879. You see

  880. Christ

  881. entered into

  882. the deadliest

  883. trouble for us

  884. a trouble

  885. so great

  886. that saw

  887. him die

  888. forsaken

  889. by the

  890. father

  891. and as

  892. Christ

  893. was raised

  894. from the

  895. dead

  896. he is

  897. with us

  898. now forever

  899. by his

  900. holy spirit

  901. therefore

  902. he will

  903. bring us

  904. through all

  905. our troubles

  906. even death

  907. itself.

  908. Christ

  909. has dealt

  910. with the

  911. past

  912. Christ

  913. has secured

  914. our future

  915. death.

  916. Therefore

  917. we live

  918. with the

  919. sure

  920. and certain

  921. hope

  922. today.

  923. Look at

  924. the end

  925. of verse

  926. 10.

  927. With

  928. confidence

  929. we now

  930. can say

  931. on him

  932. on Christ

  933. we have

  934. set our

  935. hope

  936. that he

  937. will continue

  938. to deliver

  939. us.

  940. Whatever

  941. trouble we

  942. may face

  943. remember

  944. he has

  945. defeated

  946. sin and

  947. death

  948. and

  949. therefore

  950. he will

  951. deliver us

  952. in all

  953. our troubles

  954. even death

  955. itself.

  956. So

  957. third

  958. and this

  959. sums up

  960. all that

  961. we've been

  962. looking at

  963. our

  964. troubles

  965. lead us

  966. to praise

  967. the grace

  968. of God.

  969. You see

  970. the troubles

  971. we face

  972. in this

  973. life

  974. are never

  975. easy.

  976. We

  977. experience

  978. distress

  979. and

  980. discomfort.

  981. We

  982. experience

  983. suffering

  984. and

  985. struggles

  986. but not

  987. one of

  988. them are

  989. meaningless.

  990. Our

  991. sufferings

  992. are not

  993. wasted.

  994. In the

  995. hands of

  996. God

  997. they bring

  998. good to

  999. others

  1000. as we

  1001. give

  1002. comfort.

  1003. They

  1004. bring

  1005. growth

  1006. to us

  1007. as we

  1008. trust

  1009. in God's

  1010. deliverance.

  1011. But

  1012. ultimately

  1013. our

  1014. troubles

  1015. bring

  1016. glory

  1017. to

  1018. God.

  1019. They

  1020. cause

  1021. us

  1022. to

  1023. praise

  1024. his

  1025. grace.

  1026. Look at

  1027. how the

  1028. text starts

  1029. in verse

  1030. three.

  1031. Praise

  1032. be to

  1033. God and

  1034. Father of

  1035. our

  1036. Lord Jesus

  1037. Christ

  1038. the

  1039. Father of

  1040. compassion

  1041. and the

  1042. God of

  1043. all

  1044. comfort

  1045. who

  1046. comforts

  1047. us in

  1048. all our

  1049. troubles.

  1050. Our

  1051. troubles

  1052. cause us

  1053. to

  1054. praise God

  1055. to

  1056. praise

  1057. God

  1058. for

  1059. his

  1060. comfort

  1061. in

  1062. our

  1063. life

  1064. and

  1065. in

  1066. the

  1067. life

  1068. of

  1069. others.

  1070. But

  1071. not

  1072. just

  1073. that.

  1074. Look

  1075. again

  1076. at

  1077. verse

  1078. nine.

  1079. We

  1080. felt

  1081. we

  1082. had

  1083. received

  1084. a

  1085. sentence

  1086. of

  1087. death

  1088. but

  1089. this

  1090. happened

  1091. that

  1092. we

  1093. might

  1094. not

  1095. rely

  1096. on

  1097. ourselves

  1098. but

  1099. on

  1100. God

  1101. who

  1102. raises

  1103. the

  1104. dead.

  1105. verse

  1106. 11

  1107. then

  1108. many

  1109. will

  1110. give

  1111. thanks

  1112. on

  1113. our

  1114. behalf

  1115. for

  1116. the

  1117. gracious

  1118. favour

  1119. granted

  1120. us

  1121. in

  1122. answer

  1123. to

  1124. the

  1125. prayers

  1126. of

  1127. many.

  1128. Our

  1129. troubles

  1130. cause

  1131. us

  1132. to be

  1133. comforted

  1134. and

  1135. to

  1136. rest

  1137. in

  1138. God

  1139. which

  1140. will

  1141. result

  1142. in

  1143. the

  1144. praise

  1145. and

  1146. giving

  1147. thanks

  1148. of

  1149. others

  1150. to

  1151. God.

  1152. Who

  1153. thought

  1154. that

  1155. we

  1156. would

  1157. ever

  1158. praise

  1159. God

  1160. and

  1161. thank

  1162. God

  1163. for

  1164. troubles.

  1165. You

  1166. see

  1167. without

  1168. God

  1169. our

  1170. troubles

  1171. are

  1172. meaningless.

  1173. We

  1174. suffer

  1175. and the

  1176. world

  1177. says

  1178. suck

  1179. it

  1180. up.

  1181. That's

  1182. life.

  1183. Get

  1184. on

  1185. with

  1186. it.

  1187. What

  1188. a

  1189. hopeless

  1190. way

  1191. to

  1192. live.

  1193. It's

  1194. utterly

  1195. empty.

  1196. But

  1197. with

  1198. God

  1199. our

  1200. troubles

  1201. are

  1202. not

  1203. wasted.

  1204. There

  1205. are

  1206. good

  1207. purposes

  1208. as

  1209. we

  1210. go

  1211. through

  1212. life

  1213. in

  1214. all

  1215. its

  1216. struggles.

  1217. We

  1218. will

  1219. experience

  1220. God's

  1221. comfort

  1222. and

  1223. compassion

  1224. day

  1225. after

  1226. day

  1227. like

  1228. a

  1229. waterfall

  1230. overflowing.

  1231. We

  1232. will

  1233. be

  1234. filled

  1235. with

  1236. compassion

  1237. and

  1238. comfort.

  1239. But

  1240. get

  1241. this.

  1242. A

  1243. day

  1244. is

  1245. going

  1246. to

  1247. come

  1248. when

  1249. God

  1250. will

  1251. say

  1252. to

  1253. us

  1254. today

  1255. your

  1256. troubles

  1257. are

  1258. over

  1259. love

  1260. love

  1261. because

  1262. today

  1263. you

  1264. will

  1265. be

  1266. with

  1267. me.

  1268. I

  1269. will

  1270. raise

  1271. you

  1272. up

  1273. and

  1274. deliver

  1275. you

  1276. from

  1277. this

  1278. broken

  1279. world

  1280. and

  1281. you

  1282. will

  1283. share

  1284. eternal

  1285. glory

  1286. with

  1287. me.

1288. and all the hurts will be gone

1289. and all the tears will be gone

1290. and we will enjoy the comfort and deliverance of God

1291. in all its fullness forever.

  1292. So all the praise

  1293. and all the glory

  1294. to him

  1295. for his gracious favour

  1296. to people like us.

  1297. Praise God.

  1298. Let's pray.

  1299. Father, we recognise

  1300. that we are dealing

  1301. and talking about something

  1302. that's very real,

  1303. very difficult

  1304. and very personal.

1305. We pray for anyone here today

  1306. who is struggling.

1307. Father, fill them with your comfort.

1308. Fill them with your peace.

1309. Reassure them that they are loved by you

1310. and cared for by you.

  1311. Remind them

1312. that their life are in your hands

1313. and just as you have been with them in the past,

1314. you will be with them in the future

1315. and nothing will ever separate them from your love.

  1316. Not any trouble.

  1317. Not even death itself.

  1318. Father,

1319. Father, would you fill us with your comfort and compassion afresh

1320. so that we may be those who are comforters of others.

1321. give us your Holy Spirit

1322. that we may be present with people

1323. filling them with the promises of God

1324. and praying for them in their hurts

1325. that they may know your grace and help.

1326. thank you for one another.

1327. Thank you for this church.

1328. Thank you for the comfort and help

1329. that we receive from one another.

1330. To you, we give all the glory

  1331. and all the praise

1332. for the works that you are doing in us and through us.

  1333. keep us faithful

  1334. keep us trusting you.

  1335. Amen.
