  1. So, 2 Corinthians chapter 6.

    2 Corinthians 6 chapter mention

  2. We're going to read the whole chapter together.

  3. And then we're going to do something a little bit different.

  4. We're just simply going to walk our way through the text and hear what God has to say to us.

  5. So, we're going to read it.

  6. Then pray.

  7. And then we're going to walk our way through it as we hear what God has to say to his church today.

  8. Let's pick it up in verse 1.

  9. 2 Corinthians chapter 6.

    2 Corinthians 6 chapter mention

  10. As God's fellow workers, we urge you not to receive God's grace in vain.

  11. For he says,

  12. In great endurance, in troubles, hardships and distresses, in beatings, imprisonments and riots,

  13. In hard work, sleepless nights and hunger,

  14. In purity, understanding, patience and kindness,

  15. In the Holy Spirit and in sincere love,

  16. In truthful speech and in the power of God,

  17. With weapons of righteousness in the right hand and in the left,

  18. Through glory and dishonour,

  19. Bad report and good report,

  20. Genuine,

  21. Genuine, yet regarded as imposters,

  22. Known, yet regarded as unknown,

  23. Dying, and yet we live on,

  24. beaten, beaten, and yet not killed,

  25. Sorrowful, yet always rejoicing,

  26. Poor, yet making many rich,

  27. Having nothing, and yet possessing everything.

  28. We have spoken freely to you,

  29. Corinthians, and opened wide our hearts to you.

  30. We are not withholding our affection from you,

  31. But you are withholding yours from us.

  32. As a fair exchange, I speak as to my children,

  33. Open wide your hearts also.

  34. Do not be yoked together with unbelievers,

  35. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common?

  36. Or what fellowship can light have with darkness?

  37. What harmony is there between Christ and Belial?

  38. Or what does a believer have in common with an unbeliever?

  39. What agreement is there between the temple of God and idols?

  40. For we are the temple of the living God.

  41. As God has said,

  42. I will live with them and walk among them,

  43. And I will be their God,

  44. And they will be my people.

  45. Therefore come out from them and be separate,

  46. Says the Lord.

  47. Touch no unclean thing,

  48. And I will receive you.

  49. And I will be a father to you,

  50. And you will be my sons and daughters,

  51. Says the Lord Almighty.

  52. Therefore,

  53. Since we have these promises, dear friends,

  54. Let us purify ourselves from everything that contaminates body and spirit,

  55. Perfecting holiness out of reference for God.

  56. For God.

  57. Well, please keep your Bibles open.

  58. We're going to return to it in just a moment,

  59. But we're going to pray,

  60. And ask for God to do a work in each of our lives.

  61. Let's ask him to do that.

  62. Lord God, you are great,

  63. And it is pleased you,

  64. To have this word written down for us today.

  65. And we pray,

  66. That not one of us will leave this building,

  67. Without your word having touched us deeply this morning,

  68. Changing us,

  69. And making us more like Christ,

  70. Helping us to see all that he has done,

  71. And what it means to follow him.

  72. Father, please do this work amongst us,

  73. For we cannot change ourselves,

  74. Only you can change us.

  75. Please do that.

  76. Amen.

  77. Christ has given his all for you,

  78. Now give your life to Christ.

  79. Christ has given his all to you,

  80. Now give your life to Christ.

  81. Well, what is it that Christ has done for us?

  82. Well, look back with me to chapter 5,

  83. Verse 17.

  84. Therefore,

  85. If anyone is in Christ,

  86. If you are trusting in Christ,

  87. You have become,

  88. A new creation.

  89. A new person.

  90. How did he do that?

  91. Well, look at verse 21.

  92. God made Christ,

  93. Who had no sin,

  94. To be sin for us,

  95. So that in Christ,

  96. We might become the righteousness of God.

  97. Christ,

  98. Christ,

  99. Christ,

  100. In obedience to his father,

  101. Has given his life for us.

  102. Making us a new creation,

  103. Declaring us right with God,

  104. And securing our eternal destination.

  105. So don't hold back.

  106. No more sitting on the fence.

  107. No more will I or won't I.

  108. Give him your all.

  109. What will it look like for us to give our all for Christ?

  110. Well we're going to look through this text and we're going to see five simple things of what it means to give our all to Christ.

  111. The first is this.

  112. Receive the grace of God's word.

  113. Verse 1.

  114. As God's fellow workers we urge you, I plead with you, not to receive God's grace in vain.

  115. God's grace, his undeserved kindness is always available.

  116. So long as we are still breathing, God's grace is there for us.

  117. Whatever our sin, whatever the burden we carry today, we can always run to him and always turn to him.

  118. Why? Look at verse 2.

  119. For he says,

  120. In the time of my favour I heard you, and in the day of salvation I helped you.

  121. Now that's a quote from Isaiah, telling us about God's people who are being disciplined for their rebellion against God.

  122. But God still pursues them and longs for their return.

  123. So how much more true is that for us through Christ?

  124. End of verse 2.

  125. I tell you, now is the time of God's favour.

  126. Now is the day of salvation.

  127. Today is the day.

  128. Don't let another moment go by.

  129. Call on God for his grace and he will forgive you and he will give you a fresh start.

  130. So if you are not a Christian today, listen to God's free offer.

  131. Don't delay.

  132. Don't put it off.

  133. Where you are right now, ask God to save you.

  134. Or perhaps you are a Christian, but you've been walking in disobedience.

  135. Where you are today is not where you were a number of years ago, but week by week you still come.

  136. You hear the offer of grace, but you resist it.

  137. Verse 1.

  138. As fellow workers, I urge you, I plead with you, do not receive God's grace in vain.

  139. You see, to give yourself to Christ is to reap the benefits of his grace.

  140. Now is the time.

  141. Today is the day of his favour.

  142. Where we are right now, Christ has given his all for you.

  143. Now give your all to Christ.

  144. Receive the grace of God's word.

  145. Second, we are to embrace together the reality of gospel ministry.

  146. As we think of what Christ has done for us, this is our response.

  147. Verse 3.

  148. We put no stumbling block in anyone's path, so that our ministry will not be discredited.

  149. Rather, as servants of God, we commend ourselves in every way.

  150. We've given our life to gospel ministry, so that others might receive the grace of Christ.

  151. So what will it look like to embrace this kind of ministry?

  152. Well, three things are highlighted.

  153. First is, you will suffer.

  154. Look at how Paul describes his life in verse 4.

  155. He says,

  156. As servants of God, we commend ourselves in every way, in great endurance,

  157. in troubles, hardships and distresses,

  158. in beatings, imprisonments and riots,

  159. in hard work, sleepless nights and hunger.

  160. It's going to be hard.

  161. We mightn't face these same trials written here,

  162. but you can't get away from the fact that gospel ministry is costly.

  163. You will be opposed.

  164. You may lose your friends.

  165. You may even lose your job.

  166. Embracing gospel ministry means you will suffer.

  167. But not only will we suffer,

  168. we will have grace or power from God.

  169. To be able to endure these hardships,

  170. look at how Paul responded to them.

  171. Verse 6.

  172. He responded in purity,

  173. understanding,

  174. patience and kindness,

  175. in the Holy Spirit

  176. and in sincere love,

  177. in truthful speech

  178. and in the power of God.

  179. With weapons of righteousness

  180. in the right hand

  181. and in the left.

  182. If we are to keep going,

  183. we need much more than effort and enthusiasm.

  184. We need God's supernatural help.

  185. We need his grace

  186. to respond patiently,

  187. kindly,

  188. gently

  189. and with love.

  190. Embracing gospel ministry means

  191. we need the power

  192. of God's grace.

  193. So we will suffer.

  194. We need grace.

  195. And third,

  196. we learn that we have enough.

  197. God will ensure

  198. that you will have enough

  199. to serve him

  200. and the gospel.

  201. Look at verse 10.

  202. Amen.

  203. Whatever we go through,

  204. be it sorrowful,

  205. yet always rejoicing.

  206. Poor,

  207. yet making many rich.

  208. Having nothing

  209. and yet possessing everything.

  210. It's remarkable,

  211. the one person

  212. who changes

  213. all our hardships

  214. is Christ.

  215. He is the one

  216. who makes all the difference

  217. so that we can say

  218. in death

  219. there is life,

  220. in sorrow

  221. there is joy,

  222. in poverty

  223. we make others

  224. rich in Christ,

  225. having nothing

  226. and yet we possess

  227. everything.

  228. In other words,

  229. if we have Christ,

  230. then Christ

  231. is enough.

  232. all other things

  233. in this life

  234. and this world

  235. may be lost,

  236. but we have gained

  237. what we can never

  238. lose.

  239. We have

  240. Christ.

  241. Christ

  242. has given

  243. his all

  244. for you.

  245. Now give your

  246. all

  247. to Christ.

  248. Embrace

  249. the reality

  250. of gospel

  251. ministry.

  252. third then,

  253. experience

  254. the love

  255. of fellow

  256. members.

  257. As we think

  258. of all that

  259. Christ has done

  260. for us

  261. and the love

  262. he has shown

  263. to us,

  264. giving

  265. ourself

  266. to him

  267. will mean

  268. we experience

  269. the deep

  270. love

  271. of others.

  272. verse 11.

  273. We have

  274. spoken

  275. freely

  276. to you,

  277. Corinthians,

  278. and open

  279. wide our

  280. hearts

  281. to you.

  282. We are

  283. not

  284. withholding

  285. our

  286. affection

  287. from you,

  288. but you

  289. are withholding

  290. your affection

  291. from us.

  292. We've

  293. held nothing

  294. back.

  295. We have

  296. given our

  297. all to you.

  298. We love

  299. you deeply.

  300. You see,

  301. affections

  302. are not

  303. just feelings

  304. on the

  305. surface

  306. that change

  307. and come

  308. and go.

  309. It's a

  310. deep love

  311. that comes

  312. from within

  313. our inner

  314. being.

  315. It's being

  316. moved

  317. with tender

  318. compassion.

  319. And it's

  320. this kind

  321. of affection

  322. that is

  323. experienced

  324. when the

  325. church

  326. truly

  327. and genuinely

  328. opens up

  329. their hearts

  330. to one

  331. another,

  332. where we

  333. take off

  334. the mask

  335. and we

  336. bear our

  337. souls

  338. to one

  339. another.

  340. No more

  341. hiding,

  342. but being

  343. transparent.

  344. So let me

  345. ask us all

  346. the difficult

  347. questions.

  348. am I

  349. starting

  350. with myself?

  351. Am I

  352. withholding

  353. my

  354. affection

  355. from you?

  356. Are you

  357. withholding

  358. your affection

  359. from others?

  360. you see,

  361. that's why

  362. we take

  363. membership

  364. of the

  365. church

  366. seriously.

  367. It's

  368. followers

  369. of Christ

  370. committing

  371. themselves

  372. to a

  373. tender,

  374. compassionate

  375. affection.

  376. It's

  377. opening your

  378. heart to

  379. the people

  380. around you.

  381. Yes,

  382. it means

  383. you're being

  384. vulnerable,

  385. but by

  386. becoming a

  387. member,

  388. I am

  389. opening my

  390. heart to

  391. you.

  392. and you

  393. open your

  394. heart to

  395. me.

  396. The question

  397. is,

  398. will we

  399. do so?

  400. Verse

  401. 13.

  402. As a

  403. fair

  404. exchange,

  405. I speak

  406. as to

  407. my own

  408. children.

  409. Open

  410. wide

  411. your

  412. hearts

  413. also.

  414. Christ

  415. has

  416. given

  417. his

  418. all

  419. for

  420. you.

  421. now

  422. give

  423. your

  424. all

  425. to

  426. Christ

  427. and

  428. experience

  429. the

  430. love

  431. of

  432. fellow

  433. members.

  434. Fourth,

  435. as we

  436. think about

  437. all that

  438. Christ has

  439. done for

  440. us,

  441. we guard

  442. the promise

  443. of Christ's

  444. presence.

  445. love

  446. love.

  447. Look at

  448. verse 14.

  449. Do not

  450. be yoked

  451. together with

  452. unbelievers.

  453. Familiar

  454. verse,

  455. one we

  456. often apply

  457. to people

  458. who are

  459. seeking to

  460. get married,

  461. believers

  462. marrying

  463. unbelievers,

  464. but I don't

  465. think,

  466. while that's

  467. important,

  468. I don't

  469. think that's

  470. what the

  471. text is

  472. saying here.

  473. it's

  474. about

  475. guarding

  476. and

  477. protecting

  478. our

  479. relationship

  480. with

  481. Christ

  482. first and

  483. foremost.

  484. In other

  485. words,

  486. we are to

  487. be careful

  488. of those

  489. who claim

  490. to be

  491. Christians,

  492. but deny

  493. the gospel.

  494. Look at

  495. the rest

  496. of verse

  497. 14.

  498. For what

  499. do righteousness

  500. and wickedness

  501. have in

  502. common?

  503. Or what

  504. fellowship

  505. can light

  506. have with

  507. darkness?

  508. what harmony

  509. is there

  510. between

  511. Christ

  512. and the

  513. devil?

  514. Or what

  515. does a

  516. believer

  517. have in

  518. common

  519. with an

  520. unbeliever?

  521. You see,

  522. in the

  523. church in

  524. Corinth,

  525. there were

  526. those who

  527. were distorting

  528. the gospel.

  529. We read

  530. about them

  531. in chapter

  532. 11.

  533. Just have

  534. a look

  535. a couple

  536. of pages

  537. ahead.

  538. Chapter

  539. 11,

  540. verse

  541. 13.

  542. Here we

  543. have a

  544. picture of

  545. those who

  546. were wicked,

  547. those who

  548. were in

  549. darkness,

  550. those who

  551. were unbelievers.

  552. Chapter

  553. 11,

  554. verse 13.

  555. For such

  556. people are

  557. false

  558. apostles,

  559. deceitful

  560. workers,

  561. masquerading

  562. as apostles

  563. of Christ,

  564. and no

  565. wonder,

  566. for Satan

  567. himself

  568. masquerades

  569. as an

  570. angel of

  571. light.

  572. It is

  573. not

  574. surprising

  575. then,

  576. if his

  577. servants

  578. also

  579. masquerade

  580. as

  581. servants

  582. of

  583. righteousness.

  584. Their

  585. end

  586. will be

  587. what

  588. their

  589. actions

  590. deserve.

  591. Go

  592. back

  593. to

  594. chapter

  595. 6.

  596. The

  597. people

  598. we have

  599. just

  600. read of

  601. are the

  602. people

  603. that are

  604. in mind

  605. in chapter

  606. 6.

  607. They

  608. offer

  609. you

  610. nothing.

  611. In

  612. fact,

  613. we should

  614. know that

  615. we already

  616. have

  617. everything.

  618. Verse

  619. 16.

  620. For what

  621. agreement

  622. is there

  623. between the

  624. temple of

  625. God

  626. and the

  627. temple of

  628. idols?

  629. For we

  630. are the

  631. temple of

  632. the living

  633. God.

  634. As God

  635. has said,

  636. I will

  637. live with

  638. them

  639. and walk

  640. among them

  641. and I

  642. will be

  643. their God

  644. and they

  645. will be

  646. my

  647. people.

  648. Just

  649. over

  650. 2,000

  651. years ago

  652. God

  653. did

  654. walk

  655. among

  656. his

  657. people

  658. through

  659. the

  660. person

  661. of

  662. Christ.

  663. Emmanuel

  664. God

  665. with

  666. us

  667. and now

  668. Christ

  669. is present

  670. with us

  671. by the

  672. Holy

  673. Spirit.

  674. Verse

  675. 16.

  676. For we

  677. are

  678. the

  679. temple

  680. of the

  681. living

  682. God.

  683. If you

  684. are a

  685. Christian,

  686. God

  687. has taken

  688. up residence

  689. in your

  690. life.

  691. The

  692. creator

  693. of the

  694. universe,

  695. the

  696. ruler

  697. of the

  698. world,

  699. the

  700. saviour

  701. of the

  702. nations

  703. is

  704. living

  705. in

  706. you.

  707. So

  708. don't

  709. be yoked

  710. together

  711. with

  712. unbelievers.

  713. Don't

  714. go looking

  715. for other

  716. teaching

  717. and for

  718. what the

  719. world

  720. offers

  721. because

  722. in

  723. Christ

  724. we

  725. have

  726. everything.

  727. He

  728. is with

  729. you.

  730. He

  731. is

  732. committed

  733. to

  734. you.

  735. You

  736. belong

  737. to

  738. him.

  739. Christ

  740. has

  741. given

  742. his

  743. all

  744. for

  745. you.

  746. Now

  747. give

  748. your

  749. all

  750. to

  751. Christ.

  752. Guard

  753. the

  754. promise

  755. of

  756. Christ's

  757. presence

  758. with

  759. you

  760. today.

  761. Fifth,

  762. as we

  763. think about

  764. all that

  765. Christ

  766. has

  767. done,

  768. our

  769. response

  770. is to

  771. pursue

  772. the

  773. call

  774. to

  775. holy

  776. living.

  777. Verse

  778. 17,

  779. therefore

  780. come out

  781. from them

  782. and be

  783. separate,

  784. says the

  785. Lord.

  786. Now

  787. again,

  788. Christians

  789. have

  790. understood

  791. this

  792. verse

  793. in very,

  794. I think,

  795. unhelpful

  796. ways.

  797. People

  798. will come

  799. out with

  800. things like,

  801. well,

  802. that means

  803. you don't

  804. socialize

  805. with

  806. unbelievers

  807. or don't

  808. do business

  809. with

  810. non-Christians

  811. or keep

  812. away from

  813. pubs and

  814. clubs.

  815. Well,

  816. that's not

  817. what the

  818. Bible

  819. teaches.

  820. In fact,

  821. we should

  822. be people

  823. who are

  824. in the

  825. world.

  826. Remember

  827. what Jesus

  828. prayed for

  829. his disciples

  830. in John

  831. 17,

  832. my prayer

  833. is not

  834. that you

  835. take them

  836. out of

  837. the world,

  838. but that

  839. you protect

  840. them from

  841. the evil

  842. one.

  843. As you

  844. sent me

  845. into the

  846. world,

  847. I have

  848. sent them

  849. into the

  850. world.

  851. So when

  852. we are

  853. called,

  854. verse 17,

  855. to come

  856. out from

  857. them and

  858. be separate,

  859. it means

  860. to be

  861. separate in

  862. how we

  863. live.

  864. Be

  865. holy.

  866. In

  867. other

  868. words,

  869. live out

  870. your new

  871. identity.

  872. And what

  873. is that

  874. new identity?

  875. Look at

  876. verse 18.

  877. And I

  878. will be

  879. a father

  880. to you,

  881. and you

  882. will be

  883. my sons

  884. and my

  885. daughters,

  886. says the

  887. Lord

  888. Almighty.

  889. Because of

  890. Christ's

  891. death on

  892. the cross,

  893. because Christ

  894. has dealt

  895. with all

  896. our sin,

  897. we have

  898. now been

  899. reconciled

  900. to God.

  901. God is

  902. our father

  903. and we

  904. are his

  905. sons and

  906. his

  907. daughters.

  908. That is

  909. our new

  910. identity.

  911. We are

  912. his

  913. children,

  914. loved and

  915. treasured.

  916. So let

  917. us together

  918. start living

  919. as his

  920. children.

  921. Chapter

  922. 7,

  923. verse 1.

  924. Therefore,

  925. since we

  926. have these

  927. promises,

  928. dear friends,

  929. let us

  930. purify

  931. ourselves from

  932. everything that

  933. contaminates

  934. body and

  935. spirit,

  936. anything that

  937. causes us to

  938. drift from

  939. Christ,

  940. deal with

  941. it.

  942. Perfecting

  943. holiness

  944. out of

  945. reverence

  946. for God.

  947. Holiness is

  948. not some

  949. pious

  950. religious

  951. superiority.

  952. prosperity.

  953. It's

  954. simply the

  955. life of

  956. God's

  957. children,

  958. sons and

  959. daughters who

  960. delight to

  961. live his

  962. way and

  963. in a way

  964. that reflects

  965. him to

  966. others.

  967. It's

  968. brothers and

  969. sisters of

  970. Christ going

  971. into the

  972. world to

  973. the messy

  974. and broken

  975. people,

  976. bringing

  977. grace just

  978. as we

  979. have received

  980. grace.

  981. Christ

  982. has given

  983. his all

  984. for you.

  985. Now give

  986. your all

  987. to Christ.

  988. Pursue

  989. the call

  990. of holy

  991. living.

  992. It's a

  993. simple message

  994. today,

  995. isn't it?

  996. I'm not

  997. asking that

  998. we remember

  999. every single

  1000. thing,

  1001. but I

  1002. ask us

  1003. all that

  1004. as we

  1005. look at

  1006. the screen

  1007. and think

  1008. of these

  1009. five

  1010. responses,

  1011. that we

  1012. would just

  1013. take one

  1014. today,

  1015. one that

  1016. the Lord

  1017. is impressing

  1018. upon you

  1019. by his

  1020. spirit,

  1021. that is

  1022. touching

  1023. your heart

  1024. and asking

  1025. that God

  1026. would do

  1027. an effective

  1028. work in

  1029. your life

  1030. and enable

  1031. you to

  1032. respond

  1033. to all

  1034. that Christ

  1035. has done

  1036. for us.

  1037. Let's just

  1038. take a moment

  1039. in the

  1040. quietness

  1041. and let us

  1042. all individually

  1043. where we are

  1044. respond

  1045. to the

  1046. grace

  1047. of Christ

  1048. today

  1049. and ask

  1050. him

  1051. to change

  1052. us

  1053. for his

  1054. glory.

  1055. Amen.

  1056. Amen.

  1057. Our Father God,

1058. we asked at the very beginning

1059. that not one of us would leave this building

  1060. without being changed.

1061. And we pray that you would do that work amongst us today

1062. as we have just been praying.

1063. For today is the day of your favour.

1064. Now is the time of salvation.

1065. Lord, pour out your grace upon us

1066. that we may become those who embrace

  1067. gospel ministry,

1068. experience the love of one another

1069. as we open up our hearts

  1070. to each other,

1071. that we would be those who guard the promise

  1072. of Christ's presence

  1073. living in us.

1074. And that we would go as your holy people

1075. pursuing all that honours you.

  1076. Christ

1077. has given his all for us

  1078. in our weakness

  1079. and in our frailty

  1080. and in our doubts

  1081. and our fumblings.

1082. we give our all to you

  1083. and say thank you.

  1084. Thank you for your

  1085. redemption

  1086. given to us.

1087. In Jesus' name we all pray.

  1088. Amen.

  1089. Amen.

  1090. Amen.

  1091. Amen.

  1092. Amen.

  1093. Amen.

  1094. Amen.

  1095. Amen.

  1096. Amen.

  1097. Amen.

  1098. Amen.

  1099. Oh, Christ is enough.

  1100. That's what we're saying.

1101. Christ is enough for every moment

  1102. and every situation.

1103. Let us give our all to him.

1104. Let's make this song our prayer

  1105. as we sing together.

  1106. Let's stand together.

  1107. Amen.

  1108. Thank you.

  1109. Thank you.

  1110. Thank you.

  1111. Thank you.

  1112. Thank you.

  1113. Thank you.

  1114. Thank you.

  1115. Thank you.

  1116. Thank you.

1117. Christ is enough for me.

1118. Everything I need is in you.

  1119. Everything I need.

  1120. Christ, go with us.

1121. Christ, go ahead of us.

1122. Christ be our power and our strength for all that we need.

  1123. For he is enough.

1124. We praise you and thank you for the Lord Jesus, for all that he has done for us.

1125. And now in your power and by your spirit, help us to serve him and his gospel this week.

  1126. In Jesus name.

  1127. Amen.

  1128. Thank you.

  1129. Thank you.

  1130. Thank you.
