Outward Speech & Inward Thoughts

Alright, well tonight, folks, I have just one verse that I'm going to be talking about, and that is uh Psalms 19 verse 14.

Psalms 19:14

And it is a very, very powerful verse.

Now I know you've heard me say it, and you've heard other people say it, and you might have even said it too.

But I found a lot of different things about this today.

And I'll just start off with the verse, and it is let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength and my redeemer.

Now, this is said this is a very powerful verse and actually speaks about how we should live our in our relationship with God.

Now, also, the one thing that I didn't know, and actually surprised me with that this particular verse is a a very short and concluding prayer.

You know, like you know, it's one of those things that we actually take it for granted and say when we we recite it, we say it, but sometimes we don't even know what it means.

It made me think even about like what we call the Lord's Prayer, but also sometimes it's referred to as the disciples' prayer.

Now we can recite that verbatim, frontward and backwards, but not know what it actually means.

Not realizing that that particular prayer is a um is a method and it's a form of how we should pray instead of actually just praying just that particular prayer.

Now, this particular in Psalm 1914, as I said, it is a short concluding prayer and ask for God's help with uh two main things.

What we say are spoken words, and what we what you think are inner thoughts and quiet feelings, and also to make both outward speech and inward thoughts pure and pleasing.

This verse also links the outer actions with the inner motives relying on God for help.

Now, some of the key things in breakdown of these particular of this particular verse, it actually is like the words of my mouth, the words of the mouth.

Now that focuses on what a person says out loud and every day and what they say every day.

It asks for speech that is kind, thought, truthful, uplifting, encouraging, and honors God instead of being discouraging or causing harm.

Words do carry weight and power.

Now the meditation of my heart of the heart that focuses on hidden thoughts, private desires, and inner inner mental focus that fills our minds.

It recognizes that God sees private thoughts just as clearly as spoken words.

Our attitudes, actions, and our words are drawn from a single source, and that is in the depths of the heart.

You know, if the heart is filled with negativity, ungodliness, and ugliness, our words will reflect that bitterness.

Now, what we think about can deeply affect how we live.

Now, acceptable in thy sight shows a desire to please God above all else.

It means living a life that matches God's standards inside and out.

Now, my strength, or also sometimes referred to as rock, and my redeemer, they acknowledges, acknowledges human weakness.

God is the rock or the power that helps to stay, helps us stay strong.

It calls God a strong shelter for safety and the one who saves and forgives.

Now, as I said, you know, your heart is your mind, will, and your emotions.

And you know, the just like our natural heart, we have a spiritual heart that has four chambers.

Our heart is our mind, as I said, our heart is our mind, will and emotions, and out of it comes the issues of life, positive or negative.

So it is very important to guard it as well as to, as well as the gates that can affect, that can affect our eyes, our mouths, and our ears.

Now, the four chambers of the spiritual heart, the first one is the intellect.

Now, the heart does think, it reasons, it, and then I mean this particular chamber is the where the heart does think, it reasons, it considers, it comprehends, and it concludes.

Now the next chamber is called the emotions.

Now, indeed, that this is where feelings and affections are spoken of in scripture as an issue of the heart.

Now the third chamber is the will.

Now this refers to one's volition.

It involves choices, decisions, resolution, and purpose.

And the last chamber is the conscience.

Now, this particular chamber of the heart evokes compunction, shame, guilt, and contrition.

Now, therefore, when you when you watch the words of your heart, you watch what you watch what you think about, what emotions you entertain, what choices you make and cultivate, and cultivate a conscience that is that is tender, serving as a moral governor, guiding the words that you speak.

Now, the connection between our words and our hearts is both evident and sober.

Now, David, who actually happens to be a man after God's own heart, um that he uh he aligned his mind, emotions, will, and conscience to reflect the heart of God.

And when we do that, then our words will glorify God.

Now, indeed, our words are a reflection of our inner selves.

And Jesus did say in Luke 6, 45, a good man brings good things out of the good, of the good stored up in his heart, for the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.

Now, what does this have to do with those in the arts, entertainment, and media fields?

Now, in these industries, they all use their mouths in one way or another, and the things coming out of their mouths can be affected and impactful to the average listener, or it can actually reflect what is going on in their hearts, truthful or not.

Tozer actually wrote, um, he said, what comes out of what comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us.

But what comes out of our mouths reveals.

And Oswald Chambers actually stated, he pinned, the tongue is a true index of the of the heart.

If a man speaks recklessly, it is because there is recklessness in his heart.

Now, Charles Spurgeon actually said, A man's heart will be seen in his speech.

His tongue is the gate through which the floods of the soul burst forth.

Now, so right now we all need to ask God to help us with our minds, I mean with our mouths, with our words, and with our hearts.

And that they are acceptable in his sight.

Now, the next time you actually hear or say this verse, be mindful of the words that are coming out of your mouth and what they actually mean.

Now in Matthew 15, 19, Jesus actually further elaborated this with a sobering thought.

It stated, but what comes out of the mouth proceeds from the heart, and this defiles a person.

For out of the heart comes evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false witness, and slander.
