Those week to Ephesians 5 today.

We want to continue with this that we've been looking at the core values of the believer.

And uh we've dealt with the one uh the first one put the word first place, and we've been dealing with determining to walk by faith.

And the Lord has begun to deal with me with some things on the fourth value, core value, determined to be thankful.

Determined to be thankful.

Hallelujah.

Uh as you're going to Ephesians 5, uh one thing I want to make you aware of the 19th of this month, of course, we uh have our men's meeting on our calendar.

Uh, we're gonna have to postpone that.

I've I've got to be out of town uh uh with Pastor, and so uh we'll postpone that until a later date.

Amen.

Ephesians 5, determining to be thankful.

Jerry Savelle made this statement.

He said, when you learn to abound in thanksgiving and it becomes your lifestyle, then you can count on it, God's best will come into your life.

When you learn to abound in thanksgiving and it becomes your lifestyle, then you can count on it, God's best will come into your life.

So the thankful, say it out loud, the thankful receive God's best.

Say it one more time.

The thankful receive God's best.

In Ephesians 5, and we'll start in verse 1, it says, Be therefore followers, imitators of God as dear children, and walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet smelling savor.

But fornication and all uncleanness or covetousness, let it not be named, let it not be once named among you as becometh saints, neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor coarse jesting, which are not convenient, notice, but rather giving of thanks.

But rather giving of thanks.

One translation says, These are not for you.

Instead, let there be thankfulness to God.

Now, you know, Paul's writing to a group of believers, and you wouldn't think that you would have to write to believers and tell them not to do these things.

Right?

I mean, this, especially some of them, like, you know, fornication, uncleanness, covetousness, all these different things.

But obviously, he's writing to a church that they're not that mature.

They're not, they haven't been saved a long time.

I mean, they're coming out of the world.

He's having to share these doctrinal things with him.

But something that you want to see is all these things mentioned, if they're going on in a believer's life, they would be evidence of that person being unthankful.

Unthankful.

Right?

When you think about, we sang a lot about it today, the price that Jesus paid.

Right?

Jesus died on the cross, shed his blood for me, redeemed me from all my sin.

Right?

Nobody in here could remember every sin you committed, and he redeemed you from all of them, even the ones you couldn't remember.

Right?

He redeemed us, he set us free.

And so that's where thankfulness begins.

And so for a person that's been redeemed to knowingly, willfully walk back into something like that is evidence of not being thankful.

Because I'm going back to what I've been redeemed from.

I'm going back into that thing that Jesus redeemed me from, that he shed his blood that he died to redeem me from.

Do you see that?

And so it's not an indictment as much as it is just to say, Paul's saying, look, you've been redeemed from all of this, so none of that's for you.

Here's what's for you giving of thanks.

Giving of thanks.

If there's nothing else that I can do in my life to God, it's I can thank him.

Amen.

I can glorify him, I can be grateful for what he's done for me.

Amen.

Tell your neighbors I'm grateful for what the Lord has done for me.

Amen.

Every time I come to church, I look around and I see people sitting in the audience.

I mean, it every time we get together, and I know things by testimony and by private conversations that God has done for you.

And I know one of the reasons why you're here is because you're grateful and you're thankful that God did what He did for you.

You're alive today.

We sang the song today.

I'm alive today all because of you.

Right?

So then what happens then?

When you start thinking down that road, you start swelling up on the inside with thanksgiving and gratitude to God.

You just can't help yourself.

I'm thankful because I know where I would be.

I know what I would be doing if it wasn't for the grace of God.

Oh, hallelujah.

And so Paul says, those are not for you.

None of that's for you.

And again, that should be, you know, we think that should be just, well, yeah, I mean, we're born again.

But you got to understand, the things of the old life are easier to slip back in when I stop being thankful for what God did for me.

You know, one of the keys to holding on to anything, your healing, prosperity, your victory.

One of the keys is staying thankful.

Staying thankful.

Thank you, Lord, you healed me.

Father, I know what the devil, I know what the doctor said, but I thank you that you healed me.

The doctor said this couldn't happen, but Lord, it happened.

Thank you.

Right?

Thank you.

Remember how the old folks they start testifying and they just get excited and thank you.

Thank you.

That's all the right and and they didn't need to say anything else.

You knew down in their heart they're remembering something that God brought them out of.

And the only thing they know to do is say, thank you.

Sometimes you can't put it into words.

How can you put into words what it means that God saved your life, or what it means that God healed you, or what it means that God saved your child or brought you out or delivered you?

What else, how else, what how else can you express it but thank you?

Thank you.

I couldn't pay for it.

There's nothing I can do for it.

I couldn't earn it.

I couldn't earn my salvation, I couldn't earn my healing, I couldn't earn, I couldn't do good enough to cause you to heal me or deliver me, but you did when everybody else wrote me off.

You didn't write me off.

You gave me another chance.

Thank you.

That's all I know to say.

And when that's all you have to say, when that's all you can say, because I can't take credit for it.

I can't take credit for it.

Listen, even if I exercise my faith, I can't take credit for getting healed.

God healed me.

I exercise my faith, but God healed me.

He's the healer.

I'm not the healer.

My faith is not the healer.

My faith accesses the healer.

When I get healed, God did it.

God did that.

Lord, you did that.

Amen.

Hallelujah.

Say out loud, I remember what he did for me.

Hallelujah.

Another translation says, these are not for you, but you should be giving thanks to God.

So being thankful means that I remember where I came from, and I acknowledge God as the reason.

And that can be your life before Christ.

It can be something that God helped you with since you've been born again.

But I remember where I came from.

Right?

I remember Brother Hagin used to teach, and he would start talking about when he was on what he called his deathbed.

You know, Brother Hagin would talk about he took his deathbed when he was 16 years of age.

And he, when he would start talking about it, you could just hear it in his spirit.

He'd say, Boy, them aren't good days.

Them aren't good days when you can't move.

Them aren't good days when you're paralyzed from the chest down.

Those aren't good days when you can't feed yourself and you can't read and you can't get up.

Right?

And then he'd get excited and start running.

Woo! Kick his leg and start running.

Why?

Because he's remembering where God brought him from.

Hallelujah.

He's remembering where he brought him from, and he's saying, You're the reason that I'm here today.

So a thankful person has no desire to return from where they came from.

No, no desire.

Oh, hallelujah.

Look at Colossians 3.

I'm just thankful.

Colossians 3 and verse 15.

And notice he says, and let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also you are called.

So we're called to peace in one body.

And be ye thankful.

And be thankful.

One translation says, be constantly thankful persons, constantly thankful people.

So then, thanksgiving, being thankful, being grateful, that's my lifestyle.

I'm constantly thankful.

Hallelujah.

And there's so much, and we don't have time to get into all of it in one message, but there's so much that just being thankful moves out of the way.

You know, you won't complain when you're thankful.

Hallelujah.

Amen.

It can be something as simple as, you know, getting stuck in traffic.

You know, if you drive long enough, you're going to get stuck in traffic.

You know, if you drive long enough, there's going to be plenty of people that come over and don't turn on their blinker.

Especially in Little Rock.

I guess they just figure you know where they're going, and so just, you know.

And that's fine.

Here's the thing.

But when if you're like me, you remember.

Lord, there there was a day I didn't have a car.

If I got to work, I had to walk or I had to take the bus.

Right?

Or even worse, I had to ask a relative for a ride.

I remember.

So this isn't that bad.

Not gonna complain.

Hallelujah.

Amen.

When I look at what God's done for me, it's it's it's easy not to complain when I remember He didn't have to do it.

He didn't have to bless me.

None of that had to happen.

Right?

Be constantly thankful, people.

So I got to cultivate that in my life.

No matter what it is, I'm thankful.

Right?

If if I get a close parking spot when it's 105 degrees, like it's been, and I have to walk from the back of the partner.

Thank you.

Lord, thank you.

Thank you for a good parking spot.

Hallelujah.

I go to the restaurant and they get me seated right away.

Thank you.

Thank you, Lord.

We didn't have to wait.

But Pastor, that's just, no, you're cultivating thankfulness.

Whether you get to sit down quick or not is irrelevant.

You're cultivating thankfulness.

You're acknowledging God as the one that did it.

That didn't just happen.

That God didn't just decide to be happy to me or good to me.

I'm thankful.

Hallelujah.

Say out loud, I'm thankful.

Look at 1 Thessalonians chapter 5.

1 Thessalonians 5 · chapter mention

So it's this cultivation of thankfulness.

And Paul's ending his letter here to Thessalonica.

And he goes through some what we would consider bullet points, reminding them of things that they should do.

And verse 18 says, in everything give thanks.

For this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

Now, the way many of us were raised, I mean, I I was taught years ago, decades, many decades ago now, that, you know, no matter what happens, we're we thank God for it.

And uh of course, then we got a hold of the word of God, and I begin to learn more.

And I've and and we say it this way, you know, that we don't thank God for everything, but we thank God in everything.

Well, there's a there's a reason, there's a point that points towards that.

This word, this, in everything give thanks for this.

Right?

That word this is a pronoun.

It points back to giving of thanks as being the will of God, not the situation.

In everything, give thanks for this.

Pronoun points back to giving thanks.

Giving thanks is the will of God in Christ Jesus.

Amen.

I've had people talk to me about any number of things that were going on in their life that were not good, that were not of God, whatever it may be.

And they'd say, Well, you know, we can't, uh, we can't change it.

But like the Bible said, we're just gonna thank God for it.

That's not what he said.

He didn't say thank God for sickness.

He didn't say thank God for trouble.

He said, in the trouble, thank God.

Give thanks to God.

In the sickness, give thanks to God.

Amen.

Why?

Because he's the one that can bring me out, he's the one that can set me free.

Amen.

There are things I'm not thankful for.

Now understand what I mean by that.

There are situations that I'm not thankful for.

I don't want to go through them again.

People say, what did you learn through that?

That God's good?

That's what I learned.

Right?

God brought me out, God delivered me, God set me free.

But I didn't care for the circumstance.

I never once went to God and said, Thank you that I'm in this situation.

Thank you that you're gonna deliver me.

Thank you that you're gonna set me free.

Amen.

But I can be thankful in them.

As a matter of fact, we'll read this a little later on.

Your victory in every situation is directly tied to how thankful you are, it's directly tied to it.

I I have to be, remain, thankful.

Hallelujah.

In everything, in everything, thankfulness is the will of God.

In everything, thankfulness is the will of God.

So no matter what you may be dealing with, no matter what you may be facing, no matter what the challenge may be, thankfulness is always the will of God in everything.

I'm thankful.

I'm thankful.

I'm grateful.

Whether you're you're remembering where God brought you from or where you're believing God's taking you to, I'm thankful for that.

I'm grateful.

Years ago, I ministered a message decades ago called Complain and Remain.

And it's like over and over again, when you see the children of Israel coming through, coming out of bondage.

You know, here's a group of people that have been in bondage 400 years.

Evidently they can't get free.

They have no heart.

Because you remember when God brought them out, and remember what he said?

He said, I can't take them by the way of the Philistines, even though that's shorter.

Because the people will see war and they'll lose heart.

They'll want to go back to bondage.

Why?

They've got 400 years of being conditioned that you're nothing, you're nobody, you have no strength, you have no ability on your own.

Amen.

And God shows up.

I'm getting a little ahead of myself, but that's all right.

It's my sermon.

God shows up and brings them out.

Right?

I mean, brings the nation of Egypt to its knees and brings them out.

They're not one day out of bondage.

And they're saying, I wish we would have died in Egypt.

One day.

One day.

You brought us out here to die.

Over and over and over and over and over and over.

Over and over again.

Something would go wrong.

Why'd you bring us out here?

Something would go south?

Why'd you bring us out here?

In Exodus, the Bible says that God heard their cry, heard their groanings, and came down to deliver them.

Hallelujah.

They just would not be thankful.

They would not be thankful.

And because they wouldn't be thankful, God could not continue to do what He wanted to do for them.

Amen.

Notice this.

So be constantly thankful, people.

Being constantly thankful means I remember where you brought me from.

I remember what you did for me, and I'm thankful.

Thankful people walk in love.

Thankful people bear with each other.

Thankful people have the peace of God.

I'm thankful.

I'm going to walk in love because I'm thankful.

I'm going to let the peace of God reign because I'm thankful for what you did for me.

Amen.

Romans chapter 1.

Romans 1 · chapter mention

You know, I don't know what that is, but just don't worry about it.

We'll get it fixed.

Don't let it distract you.

I don't know, you don't know.

We'll figure it out.

Romans 1 and 21.

Notice what he said here.

He said, because that when they knew God, they glorified him not as God.

Neither were thankful, but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.

So he says, Paul says, these people refused to remember and glorify God.

They refused to be thankful.

And the result was that through their unthankfulness, they became wicked, they became foolish.

They became empty-headed.

They began to think wrong.

Because there was no thankfulness.

There was no thanksgiving.

So they missed out on something because they were unthankful.

There's something God wanted to do for them, and they missed out on it because of a lack of thankfulness.

One of the most honorable things anyone can do is remember what God has done and be thankful.

Amen.

Hallelujah.

You know, I made this statement Wednesday night.

You know, my mother, God bless her, they they raised us right, but my mother didn't give compliments.

And if you lived on compliments around my mom, you'd starve to death.

Because it's just not something she did.

It just wasn't how she was raised.

And uh now she'd tell you if you were wrong right away, right?

Real quick.

But compliments?

No, but here's the thing.

Amen.

I've had people before, I've had people talk to me before.

Well, you know, my my parents are in a position, you know, I and I gotta take care of them, and I gotta do this, and I'm having a hard time because they didn't do this and they didn't do that.

And I always thought myself, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, wait a minute, wait a minute, wait a minute, wait a minute.

Did they take you to church?

Yes.

Did they teach you to love God?

Yes.

Did they lead you to Jesus?

Yes.

Did they put a roof over your head?

Yes.

Then all that other stuff don't matter.

Just be thankful.

You had parents that loved you and cared about you, and now you do the right thing.

Hallelujah.

You do the right thing.

I'm going to be thankful.

Right?

If I'm thankful for what God did for me, what am I going to do?

I'm going to honor my father and my mother because I'm thankful for what God did for me.

Right?

You know, any one of us in here can point to things that maybe our parents did, or maybe they didn't do, or what they didn't know.

But here's the thing: they did the best they could with you.

Be thankful.

Be thankful.

Right?

Because thankfulness gets God's best.

I say thankfulness gets God's best.

And so when you begin to look at that, I'm thankful for what you did in my life.

I'm thankful for where I was raised.

I'm thankful for what was put into me.

Amen.

I've had people come to me before and say, you know, my parents never taught me this and they never taught me that.

Yeah, but but you weren't abused and and and you weren't, you know, you weren't beat and you weren't deprived.

They did the best they could.

Be thankful.

Be thankful.

Why?

Because then you enter over into dishonor.

And the moment you get over into dishonor, you're moving away from the things of God.

Right?

He didn't say agree with your parents.

He didn't say say they were always right.

He said honor them.

Why, Pastor?

Because you wouldn't be here without them.

If it wasn't for them, you wouldn't be here.

Am I helping you?

I want to be thankful.

I want to be grateful for what God has done for me.

Thankful people get God's best.

Look at Psalm 78.

And we got a couple verses to look at here because.

And this is dealing with the children of Israel when the Lord delivered them.

And it says, notice they kept not the covenant of God and refused to walk in his law and forgot his works and his wonders that he had shown them.

Verse 41 says, Yes, they turned back and tempted God and limited the Holy One of Israel.

They remembered not his hand, nor the day when he delivered them from the enemy.

One translation says, they forgot the great things he had done and the amazing things they had that he had shown them.

So they turned back, and what'd they do?

They forgot what God had done and where he brought them from.

I don't know how you forget, but they did.

They forgot that they had been slaves.

They forgot the misery.

They forgot the death and the oppression.

Amen.

They forgot that.

Notice it says, they did not remember his hand or the day he delivered them from the enemy.

They were not thankful that God came down personally to deliver them.

Exodus chapter 3, verse 8.

Exodus 3:8

He said, I am cut, said to Moses, I am come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians.

I am come down.

He didn't send somebody down.

He said, I have come down to deliver them.

Amen.

So to remember is to be thankful.

To forget is to be unthankful.

Amen.

You know, I've seen this as a pastor uh over the years.

And every pastor that I've talked to, I it's it's the same, it's the same thing.

You know?

People to come to your church.

I'm thinking of one man in particular.

And uh his uh part of his family still goes to our church in the Kansas campus.

And man, he came to Jesus.

He actually came to that to the church to beat me up because his son and daughter got saved.

And he didn't he didn't want them coming to church.

And so he came on a Sunday morning, and this was his plan.

His plan was he was gonna come up and sit on the second row, and when I gave the altar call, he was gonna come up and whoop me.

I didn't know any of this, obviously.

But he he's sitting on the front row, on the second row, and uh I gave the altar call, and uh sure enough, boy, he got out of the out of the the pew.

We had pews back then, he got out of the pew and came around.

He's gonna come up and fight me.

He got about probably five foot from me, and the Holy Spirit just laid him down.

I never touched him, he just went out under the power of God and got up saying, I need to get saved, I need to know Jesus.

And and did, got saved.

Now, this hallelujah.

And and what I say uh concerning him, he he never went away from from Christ.

I just want you to see this.

And when he got saved, you talk about somebody that knew nothing.

This this was a man that knew nothing.

He had no education, zero.

I mean, he was raised horribly, and so he just started replicating in his family what he had seen in his upbringing.

Amen.

And that's how he started raising his kids.

And he was he was a drug dealer and and had a mess going on in his house.

I mean, the police knocking his doors down, taking him to jail, all these different things, just not going good.

I mean, that Sunday morning, he got knocked down by the Holy Spirit, got up, saved, got filled with the Holy Spirit.

And I mean, you couldn't beat him away from the church.

You could have put barbed wire fence up around the church and put, you know, man, machine gun towers, and he's gonna try to get there because he was so thankful for what God had done for him.

Amen.

And it went that it went that way for a long time.

And his his son and daughter-in-law and grandchildren are still in the church.

And uh, but he faced a challenge.

How many know that when you start living by faith, it doesn't mean that you live a life free of challenges.

You start living by the word, you don't live a life free of challenges.

Right?

You got to use the word for the challenge.

And he, man, he started facing some things.

Now here's the thing.

See, he was making all this money in the world.

Right?

There were times he's making, you know, four or five thousand dollars a day.

And they had seemingly everything they wanted that they needed.

Well, now you know you get saved.

You can't put out a sign that says, we're a spirit-filled drug house.

Right?

We'll pray with you.

You can't do that.

So now you've got to start working for a living.

You got to start earning a living.

You got to do what Paul said in Ephesians.

Let him that stole steal no more, but rather let him work with his hands, the thing that is good.

Now he wasn't a lazy man, don't misunderstand me.

He he's working, but you you just don't get a job where you can make four or five, six thousand dollars a week, right, for a little effort.

So he's got to work, so he's working construction.

Now his wife's got to go to work.

And he comes to me and he's talking to me about it.

I don't understand.

Well, I was living for the devil.

I had all I wanted.

And I and I stopped him and I said, hang on, hang on.

Hang on.

And they were kicking your door in and taking you off to jail, and your kids were seeing all this, and he got all this violence going on.

I said, Well, hang on.

Right?

I said, You gave all those years to live in that life.

I said, You've only been saved, what, a year, a little over a year?

Give God a little time to put it all back together.

Right?

And I had to keep reminding him of that.

Look where God brought you from, look where God took you out of, look what God did.

You need to stay thankful.

Why?

Because the blessings of God follow the thankful.

The goodness of God follows the thankful.

Never think that you had a better life in the world than you do since you came into the kingdom.

It doesn't matter how tough the listen, your worst day in the kingdom is better than your best day serving the devil.

Amen.

It's it's it's no matter what was going on, your worst day in the kingdom is better than that.

Hallelujah.

Amen.

I had to work with him.

I had to keep reminding him of that.

I know, I know you're working hard.

I know you got things going on.

Amen.

Do you see that?

And and and thankfully, I believe he got it.

I believe he got it.

They made a decision to uh move to a church closer to their part of town.

That's that's fine with me.

But the point is that I'm making is I had to keep reminding him, look where you were and look where you are now.

Yeah, but I don't have as much money.

Yeah, but your marriage is better.

Your wife trusts you.

Come on, guys, that's that's worth everything, right?

Your wife trusts you, your kids have respect for you.

Remember when they didn't respect you?

Remember when they didn't care anything about you?

Remember when they right?

And now they do.

Stay thankful.

Stay thankful.

Hallelujah.

Say out loud, I'm thankful.

To remember is to be thankful, to forget is to be unthankful.

I gotta I gotta remember and be thankful.

Look at uh 2 Chronicles 32.

2 Chronicles 32.

And verse we wanna look here at uh verse 25.

Well, let's start in verse 24.

This is an account of King Hezekiah.

And verse 24 says, In those days Hezekiah was sick un sick to the death.

And he prayed unto the Lord, and he spake unto him, and he gave him a sign.

Verse 25, but Hezekiah rendered not again according to the benefit done unto him, for his heart was lifted up, therefore there was wrath upon him and upon Judah and Jerusalem.

Now you got to mention all the accounts to understand this all correctly.

The amplified Bible says Hezekiah did not return to the Lord according to the benefit done unto him.

For his heart became proud at such a spectacular response to his prayer.

Therefore was wrath upon him and upon Jerusalem.

Well, when you read all of these, 2 Kings 20 and uh Isaiah 38, we're not going to take the time to read them today.

We probably won't in uh subsequent messages.

But you'll remember in 2 Kings 20 and Isaiah, the prophet Isaiah came, and the first words out of his mouth were thus saith the Lord, set your house in order, you shall die and not live.

Is that right?

One of them says, You shall surely die.

So we got a problem.

And Hezekiah, in uh 2 Kings, it says, He turned his face to the wall and he began to repent.

Right?

Isaiah says that when he repented, the Lord said, I'm gonna give you a sign that everything I have said is gonna come to pass.

And you remember what it was?

It was the sundial, go backwards 10 degrees.

Right?

Because I uh Hezekiah said, you know, it's not a big thing for it to go forward, but to go backwards, that's a big deal.

Well, that would be spectacular.

Right?

That would be a spectacular manifestation.

The Amplified Bible says, he became proud at such a spectacular response.

Hallelujah.

He became proud as such a spectacular response.

The sun dial goes backwards.

And then the enemy came and wanted to see everything he had.

And he took him and showed him everything.

And the prophet Isaiah said, What they see?

He said everything.

He said, Boy, you shouldn't have done that.

He said, Because of that, he said, the wrath and the judgment of God is going to come on Judah.

And he said, It won't happen in your day, but it'll happen in your son's day.

And you know why Hezekiah said, he's a good king, he's a good, good, godly king.

But you know what he said?

Good is the word of the Lord.

It won't happen in my day, it'll happen in his day.

Right?

So is there, the question then, is there an appropriate response to what God does for us?

Because the prophet came to him and said, Set your house in order, you're gonna die.

Hezekiah began to repent.

God said, Okay, I'll show you a sign that this is all gonna happen, and the sundial goes 10 degrees backwards, and yet the Bible says he did not render again to God the benefit that was due.

But his heart got lifted up with pride.

Now, this sounds simple.

What's Hezekiah's response here?

What should it be?

You did that.

I couldn't do it.

The man of God told me I was gonna die, and there's nothing I could do about.

But you not only healed me, you moved that sundial 10 degrees backwards to prove that everything else you said is gonna come to pass.

Right?

That's the only proper response.

You did that.

Thank you.

Thank you.

Has nothing to do with me.

Thank you.

Right?

Thank you.

Could have gone that way, but it didn't.

Thank you.

That's the proper response.

There's times in our life the only thing we can say is thank you.

All we can say is thank you.

Right?

Have you ever had somebody that was praying for you and God told them something, maybe something you needed, or it might be something, you know, a word that you needed, or a gift that you needed, or something like that, and they just show up and say, you know, the Lord told me to give this to you.

Right?

And you open it up and you look at it, or you hear it, or you receive it, or whatever.

What's your next response?

The only thing you can do is say, thank you.

Thank you.

You might even say, you have no idea what this means.

Thank you.

Thank you.

Thank you.

Right?

I remember Michelle and I, right after our uh uh uh second daughter had been born, Angela, and she had all those physical issues that we were dealing with.

And uh I was actually staying with my my sister because when Michelle got out of the hospital, uh we stayed with them for a couple weeks so she could help.

And uh we uh the car we were driving, the brakes went out on it.

And uh, you know, we we were gonna eventually, you know, be it be able to fix it, but we didn't have the money to fix it then.

And uh so, you know, I'm not driving that car to work.

I'm taking the bus or uh or bumming a car or whatever, and so I'm getting there, and and we're just believing God.

We're believing God and standing for what God said, amen, and how God said it, and uh sowing seed towards that.

And I showed up at work one day.

I have not listened I had not told anybody about what we were dealing with.

I'm not told anybody about the brakes on our car, nothing.

And I walk up to my desk, and when I walk up to my desk, there's a uh Manila envelope on my desk, and it's got the word real big in bold letters on the front of it, brakes.

Brakes.

And I opened the envelope and there was cash money in there to pay for my brakes.

To this day, I don't know who did that.

I have no idea.

Right?

But I I didn't I didn't run home and say, look, look, what we did worked.

Look what I said, thank you.

I don't know who did it, but Lord, thank you, thank you, thank you.

Right?

That's the only appropriate response.

I know we use the word.

I know we declare the word, we confess the word, we should every day.

But understand, at the end of the day, my confession of the word is evidence that I have faith in God who can do all things.

So my confession put me in a position for God to change everything.

Because that's what I believe.

But it wasn't my confession by itself that did it.

I know people that have confessed the word and nothing changed.

And here, and here's where their heart showed up.

Then when it didn't change, they cut out.

They quit believing, they quit standing.

That faith stuff don't work.

That shows you where their heart was before they ever began.

If you're thankful, you're gonna be in faith.

And if you're in faith, you're thankful.

They go together.

They go together.

Amen.

What why how listen?

Why does a man live with his wife and stay faithful and stay true and stay committed?

What why is that?

Because he's thankful for her.

Amen.

Thankful for her.

And if you're thankful for the person you're married to, there's ways you're gonna walk it out.

You're gonna apply it because you're thankful for that person.

They mean something to you.

If you're thankful for what God's done for you, if it looks like something's not working out, you're not tempted to cut and run.

You're not tempted to back off.

You're not tempted to quit church and quit believing God.

You go to Him and say, Look, I know you're the answer.

You're the way, you're the only one that can do this.

If anyone's missing it, it's not you.

It's gotta be show me.

Show me what I need to do.

Show me what I need to correct.

Because it's not you.

I'm thankful.

You're the healer, you're the provider, you're the way maker, you're the one that brings us out.

Amen.

You you're you're the one.

And I don't understand it all, but I'm thankful.

I don't get it all, but I'm thankful.

I don't know why I'm facing this, but I'm thankful.

I can't figure it out in my own mind, but I'm thankful.

So I'm gonna be thankful.

Because when a person, when and and and you may know people like this, when a person's willing to just walk away from everything they said they believed, what did they believe in the beginning?

What did they believe in the first place?

See, there's gotta be this thankfulness, and that's why we talked about in the very beginning of the message.

When you bring it all down to, I couldn't save myself, there was nothing I could do to fix my life, and God did that.

That's enough.

That's enough right there.

Now I'm thankful.

Right?

I'm not I'm not I'm not gonna I'm I'm not gonna question, I'm just gonna be thankful.

Oh, hallelujah.

So there's an appropriate response.

There's a level of thanksgiving that is appropriate.

Hallelujah.

Hezekiah didn't return to the Lord according to the benefit.

Well, he saved his life.

Before Isaiah got out of the courtyard, God said, Go back and tell him and get him, give him uh 15 more years.

Saved his life.

So, what's the proper response for that?

Thank you.

Thank you.

Hallelujah.

Amen.

You know, it's like when when God cur when God comes and starts correcting, here's the proper response.

Just start getting down.

Right?

Because we're going to have to repent.

He's pointing something out.

Just go ahead and start moving down.

That's the proper response.

Right?

When the Lord comes and says, Look, this is where you missed it.

Don't argue with him, just okay.

I repent.

I repent.

That's the proper response.

Is that right?

When God does something good for you, thank you.

That's the only proper response.

That's the only proper response.

Hallelujah.

Yes, I confessed the word.

Yes, I declared the word.

I stood in faith.

I looked past the circumstance.

I did all those things.

But Lord, I did all those things because that's what you taught me to do.

I got your faith out of your word.

And I took your faith that you gave me and applied it to this situation, and you changed it.

Thank you.

Thank you.

Right?

Hezekiah, he started thinking, huh, look at how God responded to my prayer.

When the only response was, thank you.

Spectacular or small, it all matters.

And the only response is thank you.

That's cultivating that life of thanksgiving.

Thankfulness is recognition that God is responsible.

It's recognition that God is responsible.

Hallelujah.

When God moves in our life, the proper response is, Father, you did that.

It didn't just happen.

That didn't just happen.

Amen.

Try to cultivate that in my life.

Michelle and I, when something and something good happens a lot, but when something good happens, we just look at each other and say, that didn't just happen.

God did that.

Why?

That keeps us thankful.

Listen, when you're when you're raising kids and somebody does something good for them, what do you tell them?

Tell them thank you.

Go tell them thank you.

Right?

You'll have them make up a card, make a card, and thank you for what you did for me.

Thank you for the birthday gift.

And you teach them that the proper response is thank you.

Amen.

Why?

Because you didn't do anything for them to do that for you.

There wasn't any special thing.

They did it because they wanted to do it.

They did it because they love you.

They right, they did it because they care about you.

I was in a meeting one time with one of my associates, and uh uh it was uh a camp meeting in Iowa, and we were there with some wonderful men and women of God, and we were in in the the back room after the service, and we were enjoying some refreshments, and uh all of a sudden the spirit of prayer just came on the whole group, and we all begin to pray, and and uh the Holy Spirit said some wonderful things.

And I was we were walking out to the vehicle after after the meeting, and um I looked at my associate and I said, You always need to remember something.

You didn't have to be in that room to hear all that.

I said, God did that for you.

I said didn't have any, I said it didn't have anything to do with you.

God had you to be there.

You need to be thankful, right?

To this day, he'll remind me of that.

He said, I'm so glad you told me that.

Why?

It it keeps you in a position of receiving.

I had a friend one time, still a friend.

Am I helping y'all?

And uh he would have me come to his church and and minister, and he always wanted me to come minister faith.

He'd say, my my church needs a faith shot, faith inoculation.

Well, you know, he always wanted me to come on Sunday mornings.

Well, I don't like being, I don't like being away from my church, period, but especially on Sunday mornings.

And uh so you know, the more I thought about it and I prayed about it, and I and I would seek the Lord about it, and the Lord said to me, He said, uh, well, you know, he's the pastor, he needs to be inoculating his own church with faith.

And so finally I just told him, I said, I can't come on Sunday mornings anymore.

I said, Yeah, I just can't do that.

Well, here's the thing: the the last Sunday morning that I went, when I first started going to this brother's church, they were in, they were in a building maybe, maybe half as big as, maybe a little, if you put like half of this sanctuary either way, that that's about how big their church was.

They had this sanctuary in about a half.

They were having three services a day on Sunday mornings, packed out, just a going church.

They God had made a way for them to buy like 16 acres, excuse me, six acres, right off of uh of uh uh I-435 in the Kans City area, which is which would be like owning property right on 430 here, all right?

Just 435 is the loop around the Kans City area.

And uh, I mean, had got that property for an unimaginable amount, low amount, and uh uh not very much money at all, something like$16,000.

They got six acres of prime real estate, and that's where they wanted to build their church eventually.

And but here's the thing he started getting in a hurry.

When you get in a hurry, you're gonna become unthankful.

Started getting in a hurry, right?

Because the Holy Spirit is leading and guiding and directing.

And uh, so they went in uh Kansas City, Missouri area and bought an old uh Circuit City.

Circuit City was going out of business back then, and they bought a circuit city.

Here's the thing they put all that prime land up as collateral, and the bank gave them all the money they wanted.

Because the bank likes land, right?

And uh so I remember the very the very first meeting that he had in that uh building, uh had a had a uh week's meetings, four nights of meetings, and uh the three speakers that kicked it all off Creflo Dollar, myself and George Bloomer.

And then Maurice, my friend, he ministered the last service.

But here's the thing is that uh I kept, I would go and minister for him.

Finally, the Lord said, you know, not to do that.

And he asked me to come back finally one Sunday, and and I felt like I could go, and I went and we went in and and he had the the men with me.

He said, Can they step outside?

I said yes.

And they stepped outside and he turned to me, put his head in his hands, and he said, My God, Philip, I'm losing my build.

And I I didn't really know what to say to him.

I knew what the issue was.

See, here's the thing.

When you get under pressure because of outward circumstances, the pressure is to quit being thankful for what you do have.

Right?

It was hard to have three services a day.

Right?

It was hard.

You got to shuffle people in and out, the praise team's got to sing three times a day, everybody's got to do their job three times a day, the children's workers, everybody.

I understand, but God's got a plan.

To move because of pressure is to be unthankful.

Don't let pressure move you out of where God wants you to be.

Hallelujah.

Because you're in a position where you're crowded, you're cramped, yes, but you got no payments.

You owe nobody nothing.

And you go from that to a million dollars a month, or ever how much it was, several hundred thousand a month, and now your land's gone.

I could stay thankful and keep everything.

God was growing that church, God was expanding the church, God was multiplying the church where they were.

I need to be thankful.

Oh, hallelujah.

I can't tell you, every every time I pull up here, we have office hours, I work five days a week.

Every time we come up here, I tell my wife, I'm thankful.

I'm thankful.

Why?

Because I remember all those times that I was on my knees in that little room house in Kansas City, Kansas.

I always remember crying out to God, I just want your plan for my life.

I just want what you want for my life.

Father, I don't care where it's at, I just want what you want, right?

And God opened all the doors that He's opened.

I'm not gonna pull up where I'm able to be in the full-time ministry for the kingdom of God and be ungrateful.

I'm gonna be thankful, right?

Because it didn't have to be me.

I was praying one time.

We were in Markham, uh, in the Markham location.

And I was praying in the in the back room in the student room during the afternoon one day.

And I was praying, and this was not long after God had asked us to move here, and we'd moved and did everything that we needed to do.

And I asked him, I said, Lord, now, I said, I didn't mind moving.

I said, but let me ask you.

I said, why?

Why did you ask me?

I'm 316 miles away.

You brought us to Little Rock.

Why us?

And here's what he said: he said, I ask other people and they wouldn't do it.

When God asks someone to do something and they won't do it, it's evidence of unthankfulness.

Why would you not do what God wants you to do when God wants you to do it?

Unless I'm not grateful.

Hallelujah.

As my good friend Prophet Ford says, quiet in Zion.

Amen.

Why would I not want to do what God wants me to do?

Because I have forgot.

Something that rules our life is this, my wife and I's life.

Whatever you ask, it's done.

We've made that decision.

Whatever you want, that's what we'll do.

Amen.

Have I made mistakes doing it?

I have.

But I'm thankful that he's good and gracious.

Amen.

Hallelujah.

Well, you thought I forgot about my friend.

I didn't.

Well, I didn't I didn't know, I didn't know how to help him.

I I mean I I I'm not in a position to say anything corrective, and you you don't want to bring a guy's mistakes up to him.

Amen.

And I remember after that service, I'll never forget, he said, we were in the, I was talking to him, and and he said, Well, let me, here's what he said.

He said, Well, let me go see what the offering was, see, can we get you a check?

I said, No, don't worry about it.

I don't need anything.

You know, he ended up having a stroke.

All the pressure that he was under, everything that he was facing.

And his wife called me, he couldn't minister.

She called me and had me to come over and minister at the church.

Would I come over the first Sunday that he wasn't there?

And so I went.

And I was on my way over, and the Holy Spirit spoke to me.

And he said, uh, he said, This is what I want you to preach.

And he said, uh, when you're done, you turn it over to the associate, and that's all I want you to do.

He said, Don't do any more.

And so when I got done ministering, I I turned it over to the associate.

And uh he he tried.

He said, Well, don't you you're gonna make an altar call.

You gotta ask people up for prayer.

I said, Nope, nope, nope, I'm done.

And so we we we uh moved on.

And um you know, his wife got up after me and just just uh chewed the people out.

Blame the people because her husband had had a stroke and it was your fault, and he worked so hard and all these things.

Well, I don't doubt that he was under a lot of pressure, but folks, it all started with unthankfulness.

It all started with not being grateful for what God had done.

Thankfulness keeps you in a position to hear from God because I'm thankful.

Does that make sense?

It keeps you in a position to hear from God.

Hallelujah.

Thankfulness increases my capacity to receive.

Thankfulness increases my capacity to receive.

Many fail to receive because of unthankfulness.

Every good thing that comes into our life is because of God.

Right?

That's why 1 Corinthians 15, 57 says, now thanks be unto God that always gives us the victory.

Always gives us the victory.

So our victory is directly connected to our thanksgiving.

Directly connected to our thanksgiving.

Hallelujah.

My victory is directly connected to that, Lord.

I'm thankful.

I'm grateful.

And my victory is directly connected to that.

One last verse in Hebrews chapter 13.

And verse 15.

It says, by him, by Christ, therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually.

And then he says what it is: the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name.

The Amplified Bible says it's the fruit of lips that thankfully acknowledge and confess and glorify his name.

So the sacrifice of praise is thankfully acknowledging and glorifying God.

Thankfully acknowledging and glorifying God.

Amen.

That's the sacrifice of praise.

And so when we see this, what the Word of God has to say, He uses this phrase constantly and at all times.

What?

Thankfully acknowledge and confess and glorify his name.

Thankfully acknowledge.

I acknowledge that you did that.

I acknowledge that every good thing is because of you.

I acknowledge that I wouldn't have made that if it wasn't for you.

I wouldn't be here, I would, whatever the case may be.

And I know that this can sound almost simplistic, almost elementary.

But when I when we read what we read concerning Hezekiah, there's an appropriate response to what God does for us.

There's an appropriate response.

I never want to be that person that just kind of acts like, well, God should have done that.

Well, there's an appropriate response.

I from the very beginning, I couldn't save myself.

I couldn't heal myself, right?

I couldn't put things back together.

Amen.

When God puts marriages back together, they couldn't do that without him.

Amen.

I've had people come in to talk about their marriage, and they're just done.

They're finished.

I don't want him no more.

I don't want her no more.

We're done.

Right?

We're just kind of giving it one last shot here.

Right?

And then six months later, you see them they're more in love than they've ever been, and God's being so good to them, and and they're they're so thankful for each other.

What happened?

God did that.

Wasn't me.

Amen.

Sometimes my my view of counseling is get over it.

Right?

I know that don't work, but you understand that's not counseling.

But anyway, so it's so so it's not me.

It's not my great counseling skills.

It's God.

God did that.

Well, I mean, when you go to the doctor and they say, there it is, but you go to the doctor six months later and they say it's not there anymore.

There's only one appropriate response.

God did that.

Oh, hallelujah.

Right?

God did that.

And if I keep that in my mind, then when I face challenges, I'm thankful for what God has done, and I'm thankful for what God will do.

Remember, Paul, he said we had the sentence of death in ourselves.

1 Corinthians, he said, I had the sentence of death in myself.

I despaired of life.

He said, but I'm going to give God thanks who did deliver me, who does deliver me, and I trust he will deliver me.

I'm thankful.

Look, he did it then, he did it now, he'll do it in the future.

And so no matter what comes, it faces that wall of thanksgiving.

No matter what comes, it faces that thanksgiving.

I'm thankful God did it.

God will do it again.

God is good to me.

Oh, hallelujah.

Amen.

That's the sacrifice of praise I'm gratefully acknowledging.

Amen.

When you read through the through the word of God, there are times that the people of God would go would go to God.

And often we talk about the confession of sins and these different things.

I understand there's a place for that.

But there's also a lot of times they would go, uh they would go, Brother Caleb, and they would remind God of what He did for them.

Amen.

When we couldn't deliver ourselves, you brought us out.

When we were in bondage, you set us free.

Amen.

You're the great God.

You're the Almighty God.

You're the God that can do anything, right?

I'm praising you.

I'm acknowledging you.

You did it once, you'll do it again.

And I'm thankful.

And what that does is that keeps you from falling into this attitude of hopelessness and this attitude of what am I going to do and how are we going to make it?

And is this all going to work out?

No, I'm thankful.

I'm thankful, right?

I'm thankful for what he already promised me.

He already, he already told me that no matter what comes my way, he'll be there with me.

Oh, hallelujah.

Amen.

You you probably heard this testimony, but it bears repeating about the man that he was he was actually in this air air uh airplane accident, and it was at one time the worst accident in aviation history.

And uh a plane was landing and it hit another plane that was on the ground that was getting ready to taxi for takeoff.

And there was a man there, he was giving his testimony in a full gospel businessman's convention.

And uh that that plane came and hit that plane, and he said, I looked, I looked down the aisle and I saw the fireball coming my way.

And he said, I could smell hair and skin singing, people were crying.

And he said, What came out of my mouth was the flames will not kindle around you.

He'd been meditating on that scripture.

And he said, one moment I was in that plane, and he said, the next moment I was on the ground looking at the plane.

Now we hear that and we say, Oh, what a wonderful miracle.

God did that.

God did that.

Right?

I say, God did that because God said, when you go through the fire, it won't kindle around you.

I'll deliver you.

See, you go in thankful.

That listen, there are times that you listen, you know what you're dealing with, and you go into it, you're thankful.

God, I thank you.

I thank you that you did not bring me here to fail.

You did not bring me here to go under, you did not bring me here to not make it.

I thank you that no matter what happens, it's gonna go well for me in the name of Jesus.

And then when it goes well for you, thank you.

Thank you, Lord.

You did that for me, you did that for me.

Oh, hallelujah! Amen.

Amen.

And that and and that's why thanksgiving and your faith are so interconnected, you.

If you got a doctor's appointment to go to tomorrow or whenever, and they're looking at something, be thankful as you're going that you're already healed.

That's that's just not words that you're trying to get something to work.

No, I'm thankful.

Thankfulness is proof that you believe it.

I believe I'm already healed.

Thank you that you've healed me.

You're sitting in the waiting room.

Thank you, Lord, that I'm healed in the name of Jesus.

Amen.

You go you go back all the way back, get up on the scale.

Thank you, Lord.

I don't know how much thankfulness weighs, but I'm thankful.

You know what my mother did?

They had to weigh her, you know, every time we went to the doctor because they wanted her to gain weight.

You know what she did, a little turkey?

She would wear a hoodie, right, and sweats.

And she would say it's because she was cold.

Well, she was cold.

But she would load her pockets down.

And load the pockets on her sweatshirt down so she could weigh more.

I said, You know, you're cheating.

That has nothing to do with thankfulness, but it just came into my mind.

I'm thankful.

Amen.

When I go back, and the the doctor might come in and say, Well, yeah, I was sitting with my dad when he was dealing with his heart issue.

And uh the doctor looked at him and said, uh, well, it's not any worse.

And it kind of got quiet in the room.

And I looked at dad, I said, Dad, it's not any worse.

Let's be thankful.

It's not any worse.

It didn't get better, it didn't get worse, it's not any worse.

And I've had people say, Yeah, but I'm not healed.

Whoa, whoa, whoa, wait a minute.

It didn't get worse.

That's evident something's working.

The healing power's working because it didn't get worse.

Amen.

Think about that.

Remember when you couldn't get up.

Remember when you you couldn't walk across the room without losing your breath.

And now God has brought you to where he's brought you from.

Don't worry about the whole tau total manifestation.

Be thankful for where you're at.

And as you're thankful for where you're at, God can take you where he wants you to be.

Amen.

So I'm thankful.

Well, I thought I thought it I thought it might not be there this time.

Yeah, but let's be thankful it didn't grow.

Let's be thankful it's it's regressing.

Right?

That's constantly acknowledging and confessing and glorifying his name.

Oh, hallelujah.

Do you see that?

Hallelujah.

Let's try that out.

Say, Father, I thank you.

I'm well, I'm healthy, I'm healed, I'm prosperous.

I thank you that no matter what's going on in the world, you're my provider, you're my supply.

I thank you for the salvation of my family.

I thank you for those that are saved.

I thank you for those that are being saved.

I want you to know I'm grateful.

I remember everything you've done for me.

You saved me, you filled me with the Holy Ghost, you delivered me.

I remember you healed my body.

I remember you blessed me financially.

I remember, and I give you the glory for it.

In the name of Jesus.

Let me let me close here.

You know, you may be facing something, you may be facing things, financial challenges or whatever.

I've learned something.

I've learned something.

That if I start focusing on the challenge, I'll end up not being grateful for the victory.

Because he already brought me out.

The fact that I'm here today proves God's already brought me out.

You can't you can't get stuck on the challenge.

You can't get stuck on the challenge.

Because that that will cause me to forget what God has done for me.

Oh, hallelujah.

Hallelujah.

But we're not we're not going to forget.

I say, we're not going to forget.

Amen.

I love that.

Hallelujah.

You know, there's times I go to the Lord and I just tell him, I remember when you did this.

I remember when you did that.

Right?

God was constantly taking his people back, and they would say, Remember how the Lord brought you out with a strong right arm, how he delivered you out of Egypt, how he brought you across the Red Sea, took you through the great terrible wilderness, brought you into the promised land, ran the giants out from uh uh in front of you.

Hallelujah.

There's not one of us in here today, not one.

I mean, down to whoever, not bar none.

There's nobody in here that would be here today if it wasn't for God's goodness and God's mercy and God's grace.

All of us.

He put the air in my lungs, he put the he allows my heart to beat, he gave me the blood that flows through my body.

Everything that I am is because of him.

Oh, hallelujah.

Hallelujah.

Amen.

And here's what he'll do: he'll turn it all around, he'll bring you out, he'll help you where you're at.

No reason to get frustrated.

Amen.

Don't don't give up.

Whatever you do, don't give up.

I was standing in service last Sunday morning and uh in in the Kansas location, and and uh I I had uh the Wilder family.

They had they had been in, the kids had been in that accident.

And you know, I kept telling the church how thankful we were.

You know, sometimes people have questions.

You know, when something like that happens, people come and they'll say, Well, how'd how'd this and how'd we miss this and how we that?

And I just stop, I'm saying, wait a minute, hang on, hang, whoop, whoop, we're not going to funeral.

Nobody died.

If we need to figure out where we missed it, God can show us that later.

Right now, let's just be thankful that nobody died.

Everybody made it.

All those children are alive.

Right?

Some of them they came out with broken bones, but they're alive.

Right?

They're alive.

See, you just stay thankful for what you do know.

You can't be thankful or unthankful for what you don't know, but you can be thankful for what you do know.

When they show me the pictures of that car riding in a in a Ford expedition, and and I don't mean the roof was dented and caved in.

I mean it was flat.

I do not know how anybody lived other than God.

God did it.

Amen.

God did it.

The kids were not fastened in properly.

And that car, I don't know how many times I somebody told me maybe six times it rolled.

There was a fatality in that uh accident.

Nobody that I knew from another part of the family, but here's the point.

When when when they showed up, when they showed up, when the EMT showed up, the two oldest girls were sitting on the in the in the ditch, holding each other, praying in tongues, singing praise and worship songs.

Amen.

All the way to the hospital in the back of the ambulance, the oldest girl sang praise and worship and thank God for healing her.

Amen.

Multiple skull fractures, but we didn't go to a funeral.

Everybody's alive, everybody's home, everybody's well.

See, don't get all caught up in all the other stuff.

You're here.

You're here.

They said you wouldn't make it, they said you wouldn't be able to get here, but you're here.

All those years ago when people gave up on you, God never gave up on you.

God kept working, God kept supplying, God kept healing, God stayed on your we're just thankful.

And you may be in situations at times maybe you don't understand.

I found myself in those situations.

I don't understand, but I'm gonna be thankful.

I don't, if I need to know something, Lord, you show me, but I'm gonna be thankful.

Hallelujah.

Hallelujah, I'm gonna be thankful.

I don't know why this happened to me.

I'm gonna be thankful.

If there's something I did wrong, Lord, show me I'll repent, but I'm gonna be thankful.

Tell her you show me, I'm just gonna be thankful, and I'm gonna be gracious for what you did for me.

Oh, hallelujah.

Oh, hallelujah.

Amen.

Because the enemy will come and try to make you feel bad about something where well you missed it, and you did this and you did that.

Here's what you do: just be thankful that God's forgiving.
