And everyone who knows that we cannot give an answer, but we know his wounds have paid our ransom, said, Amen.
-
Wonderful.
-
That was wonderful.
-
Cole and Josh are a blessing to me.
-
Cole is on our staff, the guitarist, if you're a guest. And Josh is a dermatologist here in town, Dr. Ortego.
-
He's my dermatologist.
-
He has not done a very good job of making me look good.
-
But I want to tell you what he did today.
-
He made Jesus look great.
-
Amen.
-
If you have your Bibles, I invite you to open them up to Matthew chapter 13 once again.
Matthew 13 chapter mention
-
We will be looking at verse 51 and 52. Let me remind you once again, because it certainly is something that we need to understand as we go through the Gospel of Matthew verse by verse in the days ahead.
-
In Matthew chapter 13, the Holy Spirit had Matthew record what is referred to as the parables of the mystery of the kingdom.
Matthew 13 chapter mention
-
And he is giving us seven parables. And they are parables that teach us what to expect in this day and age.
-
Between the cross, the ministry of Jesus on earth, and the cross and the resurrection, up until Christ comes again and establishes, establishes his kingdom on earth as the King of kings and Lord of lords on the throne of David in Jerusalem, which we believe will literally take place soon now. We live in the church age.
-
We live in this age where God is working through the church, the born-again, Bible-believing church.
-
And we are a local manifestation of the church.
-
And the parables tell us seven things we can expect. And I want to rehearse them for you one last time.
-
First of all, we learn from the parable of the sower and the seed that not everyone who hears the Gospel is going to respond positively.
-
Not everyone who has the Gospel in their ears and on their heart will be saved and come to Christ.
-
The parable of the wheat and the tares, the next parable, Jesus teaches us that we can expect false Christians in the world to exist, coexist among themselves.
-
Among the real.
-
And then we also learn from the parable of the birds and the mustard tree that we can expect false religions to be in this world.
-
We have the dirty birds of the devil.
-
And they're always flying around in this world. There's always some new cult, some new heresy that permeates this world and people believe and fall into.
-
And then we saw the parable of the woman in the kitchen with the loaves and the leaven.
-
We learn from that parable that the church must always be on guard against the infiltration of false doctrine.
-
In particular, the leaven of the Pharisees' legalism, the leaven of the Sadducees' liberalism, and the leaven of Herod's lasciviousness, the worldliness of the church.
-
And then we saw in the parable of the hidden treasure that God keeps His promises, especially, in particular, to the nation of Israel.
-
And then after that, we looked at the parable of the pearl of great price. And we learned that God is continuing His work of seeking and saving the lost, building His church here on earth before His coming.
-
And then last week, we saw the parable of the dragnet, and we learned that at the end of the age, there is a judgment day coming where the lost will be separated eternally from the redeemed, and there is a day of judgment and separation coming.
-
And then in our text, Jesus asked a question.
-
Look what He says in verse 51.
-
Jesus said unto them, Have you understood all these things?
-
And they say unto Him, Yea, Lord.
-
Then said He unto them, Therefore every scribe which is instructed unto the kingdom of heaven is like unto a man that is a householder, which brings forth out of his treasure things, new and old. This text of Scripture teaches us a doctrine that you may not be familiar with, a doctrine that's not often mentioned, but it is practiced, and it is called the doctrine of the perspicuity of Scripture.
-
Say it with me.
-
The doctrine of the perspicuity of Scripture.
-
Now what in the world is that?
-
I was hoping you could tell me. The doctrine of the perspicuity. The doctrine of the perspicuity of Scripture really simply means that the Bible is written to be understood.
-
The Bible is written to be known.
-
The Bible is written in a way that it can be perceived, that it can be understood.
-
And I will tell you that every born-again, Holy Spirit-indwelt believer wants to understand the Bible. Every.
-
Person.
-
Who has the author of the book in their heart wants to understand the author's book.
-
You cannot have an author of a book in a relationship with you and not want to understand their book.
-
Every born-again Christian wants to understand the Bible.
-
It's in their nature.
-
They can't help it. When they got saved, God put that desire in their heart. It's a seed we just learned from Matthew 13.
-
And it grows and prospers in your heart.
-
Lost people, some of them, most of them aren't interested in learning the Bible.
-
They don't care what the Bible has to say. But you know what? I ran into some who do.
-
And that's because the Holy Spirit is at work in them to bring them to faith.
-
I pray they will trust Christ and seek His truth. But I have never met a Christian, and neither have you, who does not want to understand more and more of biblical truth.
-
Now, I want to tell you that the Bible is perspicuous.
-
It is clear.
-
It can be understood.
-
But clarity does not mean simplicity.
-
Did you hear what I had to say?
-
Clarity does not mean simplicity. Just because something is clear doesn't mean it's simple and easy to understand.
-
As a matter of fact, when Peter was writing his letters, you might remember when we preached through Peter, one of my favorite texts in all of Peter, because it encouraged me so, was when Peter said, Paul, the apostle, wrote some things that are hard to be understood.
-
Peter said that.
-
You can look it up. It's in 2 Peter 3.16.
-
Even Peter had a hard time understanding some of the things that Paul said.
-
But that does not diminish the perspicuity of Scripture one iota.
-
It just means it takes a little more work to understand it.
-
Amen.
-
And this is why you grow.
-
And this is why the Christian practices three layers of understanding the Scriptures.
-
Look at what Paul said to Timothy. Write this verse down.
-
2 Timothy.
-
3.15.
-
This is what Paul said to Timothy, the young pastor. He said, And that from a child thou hast known the holy Scriptures.
-
Now, I can tell you this. I can relate to Timothy.
-
I was going to church, Bible-preaching churches, nine months before I was born.
-
I mean, I was there.
-
I mean, and it looks like if I'm faithful, and don't mess up, then I'm going to be in church from the womb to the tomb.
-
Amen.
-
And I listen to a lot of sermons.
-
I read or listen to a sermon almost every single day.
-
And I like it.
-
It's what I do.
-
And I read and study the Scriptures every single day, unless providentially hindered.
-
But most days in the mornings, I'm with my Bible. And from a child, it's been like that.
-
It's been like that.
-
And so I can relate to Timothy.
-
Paul said to Timothy, And from a child thou hast known the holy Scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith, which is in Jesus Christ.
-
The Bible is what makes you wise unto salvation.
-
Now, there's three tiers to that knowledge and that wisdom. Number one, as you see on the screen, we have to have an essential understanding of Scripture for justification.
-
To be saved, to be born again, to be just as if you have not sinned before God, to choose for Christ, if you will.
-
There's some things you have to understand and know.
-
Basically, you're a sinner.
-
The wages of sin is death. You have offended God because of your sin, whether it's a sin of attitude or action. If you smarted off to your parents when you were seven years old, you're a sinner.
-
That's it.
-
And the wages of sin is death, separation from God now and in eternity in hell.
-
But Jesus, God, sent His Son, Jesus, to take your wrath. And on the cross, Jesus died for you.
-
And He was buried and He rose again.
-
And because He rose again, He's able to justify you and save you and enter your life and give you a regenerated spirit that is dead and trespasses in and bring you to spiritual life.
-
You have to understand the gospel to be saved.
-
You're a sinner and Jesus is the Savior.
-
You have to know that to be saved.
-
That's why we've got to tell people that.
-
We've got to share it with people. The Holy Spirit will teach it to them through our mouths.
-
The second tier is an expanding knowledge for sanctification.
-
In order to grow in the Lord, you're going to have to mature in your knowledge of the Bible.
-
You're going to have to mature in your understanding of the Word of God.
-
Folks, you can't hang around John 3.16 only.
-
And grow in Christ.
-
Okay?
-
I love John 3.16.
-
I preached a whole series of messages on 3.16.
-
That's what gets people saved. But you've got to get beyond the basics of the gospel of Christ to grow in the Lord and learn how to live.
-
Did you know there's a 1 Corinthians 3.16 and a 2 Corinthians 3.16 and a Genesis 3.16 and a Leviticus 3.16?
-
There are 65 other 3.16s you've got to know to grow.
-
Amen?
-
And then one day we'll have an exhaustive understanding and glorification. Isn't it going to be wonderful to understand it all by and by?
-
Amen.
-
We're going to know. We're going to know it all by and by.
-
Oh, I'm confused about a whole lot of things in the Scripture.
-
There's still some unanswered questions that I have.
-
But I want to tell you when I get to heaven, I'll know it all.
-
Some people think they know it all here.
-
But I think they're going to get to heaven and find out, well, you knew it, but you were wrong.
-
That's the doctrine of the perspicuity. So understanding the Scripture is a lifetime pursuit.
-
It takes work for a whole lifetime.
-
And I want to give you today from the text that the Holy Spirit inspired Matthew to pen, five postures for understanding the Word of God.
-
And if you're saved, there's no doubt you want to understand more and more of the Bible.
-
You want to understand it all. And if you will take these five postures in your life and action your attitude and action, you will be well on your way to understanding the Scriptures. Number one, you have to be spending time with Jesus.
-
You have to be spending time with Jesus.
-
Habitual, consistent time with Jesus.
-
He says, therefore.
-
That's how he starts out the text.
-
Therefore.
-
Therefore.
-
Therefore.
-
Therefore in the Bible always draws us back.
-
You're not studying the Bible properly if you just read the therefore and go forward.
-
You've got to read the therefore and go backward.
-
Because you've got to find out what the therefore is there for.
-
And he had just given us seven parables.
-
He'd just given us seven parables of the mysteries of the kingdom.
-
And a mystery is something that can be understood only if God reveals it, only if God explains it to you, only if the Holy Spirit lets you know what He's talking about.
-
That's the only way to understand a mystery. A mystery in Scripture is not like a mystery novel about who did this and who killed that, who committed the crime, you know, Colonel Mustard in the library.
-
That's not what the Bible word mystery is.
-
A mystery in Scripture is a truth that's hidden until God reveals it.
-
And He reveals it to certain people.
-
He reveals it, according to Matthew 13, to people who have ears to hear and He lets them hear.
-
Remember that phrase?
-
We hit on that phrase a whole lot in recent weeks.
-
He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.
-
Look, if you have an ear to hear, if you have a desire in your heart to hear the Word of God and understand it and perceive it, He's going to let you do it.
-
He's going to let you do it.
-
God's going to open up the floodgates of understanding for you.
-
And notice something. Notice something else.
-
In Matthew 13, He gave the parable of the soils.
-
And His disciples came to Him and said, Lord, help us to understand that.
-
He didn't explain it to the multitude that He spoke it to, but He explained it to His disciples when they came.
-
And they said, Lord, in verse 10, explain this to us.
-
And He told them all about it.
-
And then He did it again in verse 36. He gave a parable.
-
And they said, Lord, tell us more. His disciples came unto Him.
-
And Jesus said, let me explain these parables to you. And so I want you to know, when they decided to spend personal time with Jesus in prayer, the Lord Jesus gave them an understanding of His Word.
-
And that's the first and primary thing it takes to understand the Scripture, is to spend time with Jesus.
-
Jesus spoke in parables to do two things.
-
To conceal from those who didn't have an ear to hear.
-
And to reveal to those who did have an ear to hear.
-
And those who had an ear to hear decided, we need to spend some quality time with Jesus.
-
And let Him tell us what these things mean.
-
And they had sweet fellowship with Jesus.
-
I want to tell you, folks, the Bible can never be understood apart from a relationship and a fellowship with the Lord Jesus Christ.
-
The Bible says, But the natural man, the lost man, receives not the things of the Spirit of God for their foolishness unto him, neither can he know them because they are spiritually discerned.
-
You've got to have a relationship and a fellowship with Jesus in order to understand the Bible.
-
And the disciples came twice in our text, in Matthew 13, twice they came and they sat down with Jesus. And Jesus just opened up the understanding.
-
And Jesus just opened up the understanding for them.
-
I can just imagine, they said, Wow, yeah, that makes sense.
-
Thank you, Lord.
-
They spent time with the Savior.
-
Jesus never explained a one parable to the multitudes, but He explained it and explained them to the disciples who sat down at His feet and fellowshiped with Him.
-
That's wonderful. You've got to spend time with Jesus to understand the Bible.
-
Now, I'm going to say something here. here.
-
And I hesitated to do this.
-
I thought about getting some advice on how to do it, but I didn't.
-
But I'm going to say it.
-
And I don't want you to misquote me. You know, there's a lot of misquoting going on.
-
And I don't want you to run around, run outside saying I said this when I didn't say it. So I want you to hear what I had to say.
-
There is a danger.
-
I didn't say problem.
-
I said a danger.
-
With some folks who want to know the Bible, they want to know more of the Lord, but they don't have the discipline to pursue it, okay?
-
There is absolutely not one thing wrong.
-
There is absolutely not one thing wrong.
-
There is absolutely not one thing wrong. If I could say it in Spanish, I would.
-
But did you hear what I just said three times?
-
There is absolutely not one thing wrong with devotional. There is absolutely not one thing wrong with devotional books and material.
-
I'm glad they help you.
-
I'm glad they encourage you.
-
But I want to tell you, if you want to understand the Word of God, you're going to have to spend time in the Word of God.
-
So many times, the danger is that becomes our time in what somebody else is devotionalizing our heart with.
-
And that's fine.
-
That's fine. But if that's all, you're like the guy, that wrote his fiancée who lived a thousand miles away every day.
-
He wrote her a letter every day.
-
I love you. I want to spend time. I want to be with you.
-
And at the end of it all, she married the mailman.
-
Amen?
-
Look, I know it's my sermons.
-
And you can get back on the YouTube and listen to my sermons.
-
But if that's your devotional life, I'm just the mailman.
-
You need to foster a relationship with the one who wrote the letter.
-
You need to spend time in God's Word.
-
Yeah, read the devotional books. Yes, that's fine. I read or listen to a sermon almost every day.
-
But I want to tell you what, in the morning time, I'm spending time with Jesus in the Word. Just me, my Bible, and the indwelling Holy Spirit.
-
Amen?
-
And sometimes I walk away saying, Lord, I didn't jee-haw with it much. And then sometimes I get up so excited I've got to walk around the house and shout and carry on.
-
But I want to tell you.
-
You've got to spend time with Jesus.
-
His book, His Spirit, and His Saint of God alone in the Word. Amen?
-
You've got to do that.
-
So did I say devotional books were bad?
-
Did I say get rid of them?
-
Well, some of you got it. I know what's going to be on the Facebook page today.
-
You're going to violate the Ninth Commandment if you do that. You're bearing false witness.
-
So you've got to spend time with Jesus.
-
And you get in there and you say, Lord, I'm reading the Bible. You've got to help me, Lord.
-
You're the author of the book. Help me.
-
Number two.
-
Not only be spending time with Jesus, but number two, you've got to be scribal.
-
scribal the basic function of a scribe as jesus mentions in our text was to be a student and a steward of the word of god a scribe was someone that was instructed or discipled in the scripture you have to be taught the word of god it's your stewardship as a follower of christ the holy spirit is the teacher sometimes he uses a tool such as as a classroom or or something but you got to get with the holy spirit and you have to be discipled you have to be taught the word of god it's your stewardship now we're told to make disciples that's what we're told to do this is our duty you're christian that's your duty personal time in the word small groups preaching expository sermons reading but also someone you fellowship with in the word someone who you lean on that's important too we have a church a church family here we have some of the most mature knowledgeable christians in the word of god that i have ever seen in our church maturing christians and i want to encourage you to make a disciple get somebody that you meet with on a regular basis i i do it to two men right now and my it's full up for me but if you're a maturing christian get somebody that that that you can help out and they're spending time in the word of god and and then sometime during the week once a month even you just uh sit down with them and say let's talk about what god has shown us in our time with jesus in the book you got to be scribal i had i i didn't have that my dad was very very helpful with that but but uh outside the family i didn't have that till i went to college and then i gravitated some from some mentors and traveled with a with an evangelist and and met with uh seasoned older pastors and and fellowshiped in the word of god and gleaned and learned from them but you got to be scribal and that's the missing posture in the church we we have maturing believers who know the word but but they're not they're not meeting with with younger christians teaching them what they have gleaned and learned and there's people who need it and there's people who want it so i want to encourage you if you've been a christian a long time for years and you know the bible and you you have a pretty good grasp on the word of god i want to encourage you and this is part of the invitation to pray and say god send me somebody that i can bestow upon them and give to them like paul told timothy what i have taught you teach to faithful men teach to faithful ladies you got to be scribal and i want to tell you something else you'll you'll glean if you start teaching the bible you'll sure enough learn the bible amen that's that's how it is and so be scribal thirdly be systematic be systematic like a householder who brings out his treasures precious things some old some new this is a reference to the unity of the bible the old testament and the new testament Do you know, I believe today with great conviction the New Testament because of the Old Testament.
-
I understand the New Testament like I do, limited, but yet expanding knowledge because I spend time in it. But I understand it because of the Old Testament.
-
What is concealed in the Old is revealed in the New.
-
And what is understood, you just cannot understand the Bible without the Bible.
-
Did you hear what I just said? You can't understand the Bible without the Bible.
-
The Bible says there is no scripture of any private interpretation.
-
That means you just can't come up with your own idea about what the Bible teaches.
-
What does that also mean?
-
It also means that you interpret the Bible with the Bible.
-
And if all you do is focus on a little one verse here and one verse there, and say, oh, hallelujah, I got this wonderful verse, more than likely you're going to take it out of context.
-
You've got to study the Bible with the Bible.
-
And look, in your Bibles, they've got, see that in mine, it's a sinner reference.
-
See that?
-
See that little line right there in the middle?
-
The cross references.
-
And you get a good cross reference, and it'll have a little letter in the text, and you go to the cross reference, and it'll say, okay, that takes me back to chapter 18, or that takes me up to 2 Peter. And you follow along.
-
And the Bible interprets itself.
-
Scripture interprets Scripture.
-
And you don't isolate one verse away from the whole context of the Bible.
-
And so that scribe, he's taken out old things, and he's taken out new things.
-
He's taken out things from the Old Testament and things from the New Testament.
-
And by the way, I believe it all. Amen?
-
I believe it all. And so you've got to be systematic and read it through and study it through.
-
And look, you say, well, preacher, I've got to do it in a year. Who said you've got to do it in a year?
-
When that guy gets to heaven, whoever said that, never mind, never mind, never mind.
-
Don't rush through it.
-
I mean, it's not your high school chemistry book.
-
You don't have to rush through it because you're bored.
-
If it takes you two years to read through and make notes and have a journal, so be it. If it takes you three years, so be it. Amen?
-
I want to tell you who said you've got to read it through in a year. The guy who's selling. He's selling the year guide.
-
Amen?
-
Just, I mean, if it takes you longer, it takes you longer.
-
And I want to say this. The more you do it, the more you're systematic in it, you'll learn you're doing it more frequently than a year, perhaps.
-
It is a lifetime pursuit.
-
Now, notice here something.
-
This speaks to this.
-
In verse 51, Jesus asked a question.
-
After he gave the parables, they asked a question. He asked a question.
-
And he says, do you understand all these things? Is that what he asked?
-
Do you understand all these things? And they said, yay, Lord.
-
Now, some commentators say this is a little bit comical.
-
Did they say, when Jesus said, do you understand all these things?
-
You know, he kind of leaned forward and they looked at each other.
-
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
-
I mean, or did they say, oh, yeah.
-
Some said they weren't real honest in their answer. I believe they were.
-
I believe they were because of the word that Jesus used that's translated understand.
-
See, there's a Greek word sometimes translated understand, usually translated know, K-N-O-W, called gnosko in the Bible.
-
And it means absolute knowledge.
-
But Jesus didn't ask them that.
-
He said, do you understand all these things?
-
The Greek word there is sunemi.
-
And it means to bring together, put it all together, and to collect, to collect to the point of comprehension.
-
It's a very different word than gnosko, which means immediate knowledge.
-
This word speaks of something that requires thinking, pondering, meditating.
-
So I believe they answered honestly.
-
Do you?
-
Are you putting on? All these things together.
-
Are you taking the old and the new and bringing it all together?
-
Yes, Lord, we are.
-
We are.
-
Basically, the answer was this.
-
Lord, in light of the question, the answer was, Lord, I got it, but I'm still getting it.
-
Amen.
-
Lord, I know it, but I'm still learning it.
-
That's the word of God.
-
That's how it's taught.
-
It's taught to us.
-
And in pieces, if you will, it's progressive and it's revelation until it closes out in the book of Revelation.
-
God gave the covenant to Abraham, but at first he didn't give it to him all. It wasn't until later when he gave him some more, taking the old and the new out of the cupboard.
-
I got it, but I'm still getting it.
-
That is a student of the Bible.
-
And that's why we must understand it systematically.
-
You may think. You've got a text down, Pat, and then you start reading other texts of Scripture and what you thought you understood about the previous Scripture just comes to life even more because the Bible is the best interpreter of the Bible.
-
Amen.
-
And so be systematic in your approach.
-
Whatever system you use, be systematic where you get the whole counsel of God.
-
By the way, that's why we preach through books of the Bible here at this church. That's what I committed to 42 years ago. And that's what I committed to 25 years ago when I moved here. I didn't change.
-
And that's why we preach through books.
-
And that's why we're going to be in Matthew for a long, long, long time.
-
You might as well name your grandkid Matthew.
-
No, don't do that. Don't do that. Every time you called him Matthew, you ought to think you're in church.
-
You've got to be systematic and pursue the whole counsel of God.
-
Number four, be surrendered.
-
You have to be obedient to what God shows you in Scripture.
-
If you really want to understand. Understand and know God, you've got to be obedient.
-
See, the purpose of understanding the Bible is to know God.
-
But let me make a statement to you that I'm going to back up with Scripture.
-
You ready?
-
Bible study alone will not help you know God.
-
It won't.
-
Bible study alone will not help you know God.
-
You've got to be surrendered.
-
You've got to be obedient to what you learn, what you glean. Let me give you the Scripture. Jesus said this in John 14.
-
He that has my commandments, he that has understanding of what I'm saying and teaching in the Word, and keeps them, he's the one who loves me.
-
And he that loves me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself unto him.
-
Understanding the text is the first part.
-
You're on your way. But obedience is what will enable him to manifest himself to you. Amen.
-
See, it's more than theoretical.
-
It's practical.
-
And I want to give you another truth.
-
Here's a problem that many Christians have. You ready?
-
You can take this as a rebuke or an encouragement, however you want to take it. But this is where many Christians are.
-
They read the Bible for the sake of information.
-
When we need to study the Bible for the sake of transformation, you've got to approach the Word of God as if my life needs to change for the glory of God.
-
And so you have to be surrendered. You need him, and he is with you.
-
And he will be with you when you obey the Scripture.
-
A great obstacle to hindrance is that we read the Word, but we are not doers of the Word, and we walk away from the Word like a man walks away from the mirror and really forgets what he looks like. That sounds like something in the Bible.
-
God is not going to enlighten you with more truth if he can't trust you to do something with it.
-
Amen.
-
Read and study the Bible for transformation, and that happens when you obey him, and you will know God more by obedience to his Word because he will just be with you.
-
He will be with you. And then number five, be sharing.
-
The householder in our text pulls out of his treasury.
-
He is sharing his treasures.
-
Earlier I told you that a scribe was a steward and a student of the Word of God, but he was also a sharer of the Word of God.
-
When you fellowship with others, you share with others. You share with others. You fellowship with others, especially believers.
-
Let me ask you a question.
-
Do you talk about the Word of God?
-
Do you talk about what you've gleaned from the Scriptures for many reasons? You're thrilled with it.
-
You're thrilled with it, and you just can't contain it. You want to bless everybody else with it too.
-
Amen.
-
Fellowshiping in the Word, Brother Jeff.
-
This is what I glean from the Scriptures.
-
I'll tell you how us preachers do it. Us preachers do it. We do it all the time.
-
And now that there's no more long-distance calls, we really do it.
-
But we say, man, let me share with you this outline.
-
Let me share this with you.
-
Let me share with you what God gave me today.
-
I get a call almost every Sunday morning from Texas.
-
What are you preaching on?
-
What are you preaching on?
-
what you preaching on. Years ago, there was a pastor, a preacher who called me every morning at six o'clock on Sunday morning, every morning, six o'clock, the phone would ring. Mike, Mike, Mike, I'm about to, I got to have an outline. Can you help me with this text, please? And I'd give him an outline. Every Sunday morning, 6 a.m., every Sunday morning. And that went on for several months until one day, our beloved redheaded saxophonist answered the call. And she said, the preacher's name, don't be calling him for your sermons anymore. God called you to preach over there and called my husband to preach here. And you need to spend time with Jesus to get what you need for your church, not what he needs to preach for our church. I never got a call back again. Amen. She did. That's why I behave myself. But anyway, that's why I write my own sermons.
-
Somebody said when Barnett will start preaching better sermons, when Miss Tracy starts, writing better sermons, I'm playing. But she was right. And you share the word of God with your do you when you when you when you're going to go out with other believers, do you share the word of God? Look what God's word says. And you fellowship in the word. I want to tell you, praying with people, going out soul winning with people and sharing the word of God with people is the richest and deepest fellowship you will ever have with somebody.
-
It'll increase the bonds of love. It'll open up your mind to to knowledge of of God's word and insight from fellow believers who are on Monday morning doing what you're doing, just trying to live for the Lord. And God gives you that. Amen. What you glean from the scripture, what's blessed you or what's blasted you. Share that to what's warmed your heart or what's warned you, what's confirmed you, what's corrected you. Other believers need you.
-
We got a fellowship in the word of God. That is the perspicuity of scripture. It was written to be understood, clear enough to be understood. But it takes some work. It takes some effort.
-
To put it this way, you've got to show God you have an ear to hear and he'll let you hear it.
-
Amen. You just can't you can't do the five minute Bible. Can't do it. You got to spend time with God. And by the way, understanding scripture, listen, has not one thing to do with your intellect, but it has everything to do with your relationship and fellowship with the Lord Jesus Christ.
-
Not one thing to do with your intellect. Don't come up and say, well, preacher, I'm just not smart enough to understand the Bible. Join the club. I'm not either. I'm not either. But the Holy Spirit dwells in me and he wrote the book. Amen. And so pray over it. Open up your Bible.
-
Say, Lord, I got my Bible right here. I'm going to be in the word. I'm going to be systematically studying through the Bible or through Matthew here. Lord, open up my eyes that I may see.
-
Glimpses of truth you have from me.
-
Then you ponder it. You pray over it and you ponder it.
-
Think about it.
-
Meditate on it.
-
Think about it throughout the day.
-
Look for ways the Holy Spirit shows you to put it to practice and practice it.
-
That's how you know and learn the Bible.
-
Amen.
-
Amen and amen.
-
Let's stand for our song of appeal.
-
And as you bow in prayer and just pray, the invitation is this. For those of you who are seasoned believers and you know the Word of God, we're blessed. Would you just pray right now, Lord, bring somebody to my life that I can be a scribe to and disciple and teach what I know as they pursue truth.
