  1. Before, most of you know him. If you are a visitor, you'll get to know him this morning.

  2. ! And I'm sure you are aware from the announcement of the subject that his subject matter is not easy.

  3. I'm sure he'll have more to say about that. We thought of setting up the screen and the overhead

  4. projector. He could do that, but you folks are smart and you have a paper and pencil, and if you don't,

  5. you better get it out. And this is an informal class and we want you to be interested in what

  6. he has to say this morning. Brother Greer, we're happy to have you here. We're going to finish our

  7. offering, but you go ahead and start because the time is yours. It's nice to be with you this morning,

  8. and I'd like to add my little word of thanks. I too have a Christian dad who was 80 years old yesterday,

  9. pastored a GRB Baptist church in New York City, the same church for 46 years of ministry and retired

  10. two years ago. So I have a rich heritage in the things of the Lord. As far as my home is concerned,

  11. and on Father's Day, I would surely acknowledge my great thanksgiving to God, not only for the kind of

  12. dad he was, but for the quality of the spiritual life he guided me into. This morning, our subject is

  13. origins. The question of origins is a question that everyone has to face. It's impossible to be a

  14. thinking person and not ask the question about the origin of life and not ask the question about how

  15. life has developed. We live in a day and age in which many answers have been given to the problem of

  16. origins. There's one word in philosophy and in science that has permeated thinking since approximately the

  17. 17th century and that word is process. Process has become the key concept to explain everything as

  18. far as development is concerned. It's not just a word that has been used in the biological sciences.

  19. It is a word that is used in the historical sciences, the sociological sciences. Almost in every facet of

  20. learning today, we move with this idea that a long time ago things were simple and as time progressed and

  21. process went on, simple things became complex. Man started out having very few social relationships.

  22. He started out in caves struggling against his environment. As man developed, as he learned to

  23. overcome his environment, family life was established, other institutions of society were established,

  24. and therefore the sociological matrix that we live in today has come through time by process.

  25. Of course, this philosophical idea has been at the heart of Western philosophy since the sixth century BC.

  26. It's an idea that only lately has been applied to biology and to life science. Those of us who believe

  27. perhaps that Darwin was the man who came up with the idea of evolution would make a very bad mistake.

  28. That idea has been a constant permeating idea in Western thought. Darwin simply took that idea and applied it

  29. to life sciences. I want to expose you first of all this morning before I go to the content of scripture

  30. to what I would consider to be the reigning answer of contemporary science to the problem of origin and the problem of development of life.

  31. The present viewpoint runs something like this. Hundreds of millions of years ago, in the primordial oceans, under just the right conditions,

  32. the right conditions, and during an electrical storm, some chemical synthesis took place that produced low yield amino acids.

  33. Now, amino acids, ladies and gentlemen, are the building blocks of all life forms in our world.

  34. A man by the name of Miller did these experiments down in Florida about 12 years ago. He got a vat,

  35. and into his vat, and into his vat he put some ammonia, he put some methane, some hydrogen, and some water. And he closed this vat, and he put a vacuum system on the vat, and he sparked the vat with electrical current, and when he would spark that vat, he would get some low yield amino acids there in the midst of that vat.

  36. And science speculated that during thunderstorm activity with hydrogen, water, methane, and ammonia present, and under the sparking activity of the electrical storm, low yield amino acids were formed, and they began to float on the surface of the waters.

  37. Now, amino acids, of course, are not living cells, and they are not self-replicating, and they are not life.

  38. Something has to transpire with these amino acids before you will ever get any kind of life forms.

  39. Now, a second scientist, about 10 years ago by the name of Fox, took some of those low yield amino acids, and he put them in a beaker, and he held them close to a flame.

  40. And he found some very interesting things transpire when he heated amino acids.

  41. He found that those amino acids began to pop together.

  42. Did you ever see your children play with pop beats?

  43. And formed what science has called a protonoid, or a protein life chain.

  44. This is still sub-life, but he did get that to transpire.

  45. It is not self-replicating.

  46. It does not meet the definition of biological life.

  47. But it did show how the possibility of those amino acids on the primordial oceans might stick together and might be able to bring about some sort of protein life.

  48. Now, it's easy to speculate.

  49. All you've got to do is add some heat to that early speculation.

  50. So you've got a primordial ocean with methane, hydrogen, water, and ammonia present.

  51. You've got an electrical storm, and you've got to be close to a heat source.

  52. So science has speculated that this took place close to volcanic activity, so that the water in that area was quite warm, which caused these amino acids to kind of pop together.

  53. And from these early yield amino acids by natural process, life forms as we know them today have developed.

  54. Now, of course, science wants time.

  55. They've got to have vast time to explain how we can get the complexity of life forms that we find in our world today.

  56. So that science's answer to the problem of the origin of life is basically random circumstances with particular materials present under just the right conditions,

  57. and by chance, the protein, chemical, life substance was formed, somehow developed the capacity for self-replication,

  58. and from those simple organisms, those pre-life to life, and finally from simple to the most complex living forms,

  59. everything has developed from that process or in that process to what we know today.

  60. Now, the development process is known in science by a big word.

  61. It's the word uniformitarianism.

  62. You see the word uniform in there.

  63. This word simply means that science asserts that the processes by which nature operate are uniform in character.

  64. The processes we find in nature today have always existed in nature.

  65. And therefore, looking at present process, using present process plus time, we can explain how everything has developed.

  66. Now, that's the key.

  67. In fact, those are the two keys to the understanding of the contemporary scientific viewpoint about origins.

  68. Vast time in the past, under random chance conditions, protein life forms developed,

  69. then by the present processes that we're able to observe in science today,

  70. with the use of those processes and those processes alone,

  71. there has been in vast time the development from simple to complex.

  72. You can see what this asserts about human life.

  73. It simply asserts that human life has come about as a consequence of randomness or chance.

  74. That there was possibility that it might never have come about,

  75. and by randomness, atoms were formed and random collocations came together.

  76. There was no benevolent, wise God who created with a purpose.

  77. Chance was operating at that primordial level.

  78. And if chance was operating, then man indeed, as a creature, has come wholly by chance.

  79. He was not purposed. He had no goal.

  80. There was no purpose or direction to his life.

  81. He has come out of the strange randomness of the past.

  82. And man is just a possible creature who has sprung up as a consequence of chance operating forces.

  83. And thus, when man comes to maturity, man will not be able to find purpose in life,

  84. and man will finally be his own God.

  85. Because there was no God who purposed him,

  86. and there was no God who indeed defines who he is and what he is to do.

  87. And this is what we find today, is it not?

  88. We find men today living with a basic viewpoint that says,

  89. origins are explained by chance and development is explained by present process.

  90. Now, if man is a creature of chance,

  91. why should I talk to man about a moral judgment at the end of history before a righteous God?

  92. If man is the product of chance,

  93. why should I talk about moral absolutes and values that must guide man in life and decision making?

  94. Why isn't every man free to choose his own morals, free to choose his own values?

  95. Why isn't every man, if he's a product of chance,

  96. why isn't he free to do anything he wishes,

  97. and why should he ever be bothered with religion or any kind of moral principle?

  98. And of course, we have seen this and undate our culture.

  99. We've had this thing taught in public education for 25 to 30 years now,

  100. and the end product of it has finally grown up in our culture,

  101. and we wonder what's happened to us.

  102. Right this morning, I'd like not to spend my time with the scientific and the philosophical.

  103. I'd like to give the bulk of my time to answering the question of origins from a biblical perspective.

  104. It's interesting to note that in 2 Peter chapter 3,

    2 Peter 3 chapter mention

  105. the apostle Peter indicated that in the last days,

  106. scoffers were going to come,

  107. who are going to walk after their own desires,

  108. and their basic premise was going to be this question,

  109. where is the promise of his coming?

  110. For since the fathers fell asleep,

  111. all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation.

  112. Peter says in the last days,

  113. people are going to say,

  114. why should I worry about Jesus Christ coming back in history for moral judgment?

  115. Because nothing like that has ever happened in the past,

  116. and the processes of nature have remained constant ever since creation.

  117. And Peter says,

  118. of this they willingly receive amnesia.

  119. They choose to be ignorant of this very thing,

  120. that the heavens of old and the earth,

  121. standing out of the water and amidst the water,

  122. being overflowed with water,

  123. never perished.

  124. Peter says that the thing that the uniformitarian scientist refuses to acknowledge

  125. is the fact that God has acted in history,

  126. and God's acts in history have changed the processes in nature.

  127. So I want to suggest to you this morning

  128. that the key to origins is to be found within the framework of scripture.

  129. I have just finished some graduate work in writing a thesis in the early chapters of the book of Genesis,

  130. in which I have sought indeed to argue that Genesis 1 through 3

  131. is not constituted as Hebrew poetry,

  132. it is not constituted as mythology or symbolic representation,

  133. but its intent, as far as Moses was concerned,

  134. was to record trustworthy history.

  135. I'm going to make an assertion to you, ladies and gentlemen,

  136. one that I believe is absolutely essential for us all to face.

  137. If Genesis 1, 2, and 3 cannot be trusted,

  138. when it comes to its clear statement on origins,

  139. then you will never know if you can trust John 3, 16 with its clear statement on salvation.

  140. For you do not cut this book up into pieces

  141. and take the little piece of pie that you like.

  142. I want to tell you, if any of this book is suspect, all of it's suspect.

  143. And is it not interesting today

  144. that man wishes to sit and judge

  145. which part of the word of God is acceptable to the contemporary mind?

  146. The salvation pie which promises fire insurance against hell

  147. and eternal bliss and happiness in heaven

  148. is very acceptable to the 20th century man.

  149. But a clear statement about a recent creation in six days

  150. which stands in direct contradiction

  151. to the contemporary intellectual scientific viewpoint of our age,

  152. all of a sudden the believer backs off of that

  153. and we've got all kinds of weird interpretations of Genesis.

  154. I want to suggest to you this morning a model.

  155. I want to say it's not a model based upon dispensations.

  156. I'm not interested in trying to revise the dispensational chart for you.

  157. But I do want to suggest to you

  158. that there's a way to divide biblical history

  159. that will help us understand this problem of origins

  160. and this problem of development of life.

  161. And the model I wish to use is the model of judgment.

  162. I would like you to be able to think

  163. in a number of time periods discreet in character.

  164. I would like to suggest to you that Genesis 1

  165. begins with that first biblical world

  166. as it came from the hand of God.

  167. That world was characterized by certain things.

  168. That world was declared by God to be perfect

  169. and man was rightly related in every facet of his life.

  170. But something happened in that world that brought change.

  171. And what happened was man sinned against God

  172. and as a consequence of man's sin,

  173. in Genesis 3 we find God brings judgment into his world

  174. and judgment changes things.

  175. Then you go to the world from the time of the fall

  176. or the curse in the Garden of Eden

  177. and you go up to the time of the flood of Noah.

  178. And in this second time period,

  179. certain things were characteristic of life in our world.

  180. Certain particular things could describe life in that world

  181. from the Edenic curse to the flood of Noah.

  182. A time period of approximately 1,656 years.

  183. At the end of that time period,

  184. God brought a catastrophic judgment

  185. and that catastrophic judgment has tremendous implications

  186. for science and for scientific process.

  187. So the judgment again brings change in creation.

  188. There was change in the curse in the Garden.

  189. There was change at the flood.

  190. There's going to come another drastic change

  191. in the relationships of nature

  192. when Jesus Christ returns in glory

  193. to establish his kingdom

  194. and to establish his thousand-year reign on this earth.

  195. Now, we don't have time this morning

  196. to work this model all the way through.

  197. We have the judgment of the Edenic curse.

  198. We have the judgment of the flood.

  199. Right after that one,

  200. there's another one that's fascinating

  201. and that's the judgment of the confusion of tongues

  202. or the Tower of Babel.

  203. But we live in the time period of the post-flood world.

  204. The next major catastrophic event

  205. that's going to change process in nature

  206. is going to be the revelation of Jesus Christ

  207. for the establishment of his kingdom.

  208. And at that time,

  209. there will be new operative principles

  210. transpiring in nature.

  211. For that thousand years,

  212. these principles will operate.

  213. Then at the end of that time period,

  214. there's going to be a final and a fourth judgment,

  215. a judgment by fire,

  216. in which God is going to totally renovate

  217. the heavens and the earth which are now,

  218. and he's going to bring about new heavens and new earth.

  219. Now, I want to suggest to you

  220. that these four judgments

  221. will enable us to have a key

  222. to see how life has developed

  223. and what changes have come

  224. within the framework of the created world.

  225. In other words,

  226. I'm suggesting to you this morning

  227. that as a creationist,

  228. I do not hold in a static creation.

  229. I do not believe that the world I live in today

  230. is exactly the same world

  231. with the same processes

  232. that God created back in Genesis chapter 1.

    Genesis 1 chapter mention

  233. And we need to be very sure we understand that.

  234. The evolutionist says

  235. that the creationist,

  236. the Bible believer,

  237. holds to a static world

  238. in which nothing changes.

  239. I do not hold to that.

  240. The Bible will not allow me to hold that.

  241. There has been change in creation.

  242. It hasn't been a change

  243. from simple to complex

  244. between species and phyla

  245. and all the breakdown of the animal kingdom.

  246. It hasn't been a change of progress

  247. from a single life source

  248. to the vast complexity of life forms

  249. that we find today.

  250. But neither has it been a static world

  251. because God has acted in this world

  252. and God has brought change in this world.

  253. It isn't enough to say this morning

  254. that we reject evolution

  255. and we accept the Bible.

  256. It isn't enough to know

  257. what you don't believe.

  258. You must know positively

  259. what you do believe.

  260. It isn't enough to say,

  261. no, I can't accept any forms

  262. of organic evolution.

  263. It seems to me we must place there

  264. a positive biblical answer

  265. to the problem of development.

  266. I'm not going to spend much time

  267. with the concept of origin

  268. because I'm sure we are all committed

  269. to the basic principle

  270. that the origin of life

  271. has come as a consequence

  272. of the special creative activity of God.

  273. In the beginning,

  274. God created the heavens and the earth

  275. and the earth did not have any boundaries

  276. and the earth was empty

  277. and darkness was upon the face of the deep

  278. and the Spirit of God

  279. moved over the waters

  280. and God said,

  281. let there be light

  282. and there was light

  283. and God divided the light

  284. from the darkness

  285. and the light he called day

  286. and the darkness he called night.

  287. Right on down through verse 26

  288. of chapter 1,

  289. we have that full delineation

  290. of the direct creative fiat of God

  291. where he created,

  292. we commonly say,

  293. ex nihilo.

  294. That means he created into nothing.

  295. God spoke and he brought into existence

  296. those things which were a part of his plan

  297. and his purpose

  298. and therefore the origin of our world,

  299. the origin of our universe,

  300. the origin of our life forms

  301. are in the creative fiat of God

  302. whereby he brought to pass his purpose

  303. when indeed he had chosen

  304. to bring about a creation.

  305. Now you want to think a staggering thought.

  306. Why did God create?

  307. Was he lonely?

  308. Free person,

  309. sharing a common essence

  310. and absolute harmony and fellowship?

  311. Did he have a need?

  312. Was he deficient?

  313. Was there a part of him

  314. that was incomplete

  315. and he had to take steps to complete it?

  316. I hope not.

  317. He's an absolutely self-sufficient God.

  318. Why did he create?

  319. There's only one answer to that question,

  320. because he chose to.

  321. You say,

  322. well,

  323. why did he choose to do it?

  324. And I ask you a question then.

  325. What is there that's antecedent

  326. to the will of God?

  327. Do you know of anything?

  328. Then don't ask dumb questions.

  329. If the will of God

  330. has no antecedent,

  331. then don't ask why about it, huh?

  332. Well,

  333. there is no other place to go.

  334. When you say,

  335. he chose to,

  336. and you say,

  337. why did he choose to?

  338. What would you like to find?

  339. Well,

  340. he wasn't incomplete.

  341. He didn't have to create.

  342. Creation is an activity of God

  343. that comes from his free choice

  344. and his free purpose,

  345. and God,

  346. for purposes known to himself,

  347. determined in eternity past

  348. to create,

  349. and then actually did the creating.

  350. Now,

  351. my own view of Genesis 1

  352. very simply is this.

  353. God created

  354. in six consecutive

  355. literal days.

  356. I do not accept

  357. the gap theory,

  358. and if you do,

  359. I respect that.

  360. I'm not going to take time

  361. to argue the viewpoint

  362. this morning.

  363. I just simply want

  364. to assert to you

  365. that I believe

  366. that exegetically

  367. the best way

  368. to handle Genesis 1

  369. is to see

  370. six consecutive days

  371. of creative activity

  372. by God,

  373. and it wasn't

  374. because God got tired

  375. and he had to rest up

  376. so he'd have enough energy

  377. for the next day

  378. because God was doing this

  379. in order to establish

  380. a model

  381. which would become

  382. the pattern of life

  383. for his image bearer,

  384. Genesis 20,

  385. clearly tells us.

  386. By the way,

  387. Genesis 20, 11

  388. seems to me

  389. to be an overwhelmingly

  390. difficult view

  391. for the gap theory

  392. to work with,

  393. and that's this.

  394. In six days,

  395. Jehovah made

  396. the heavens

  397. and the earth.

  398. What does Genesis 1, 1 say?

  399. In the beginning,

  400. God created what?

  401. The heavens and the earth.

  402. And Moses says

  403. in Exodus 20, 11,

  404. In six days,

  405. Jehovah made

  406. the heavens

  407. and the earth

  408. and all that is

  409. in them is.

  410. So I suggest to you

  411. that as far as

  412. origins are concerned,

  413. we hold to

  414. special creation,

  415. we hold to

  416. direct divine activity,

  417. we hold to the

  418. creative breath

  419. of God operating

  420. at creation.

  421. Now don't answer

  422. too quickly,

  423. for I don't want

  424. to embarrass you

  425. on Father's Day,

  426. but who created?

  427. Who is the creator?

  428. Christ.

  429. Please learn that.

  430. John 1.

  431. Creation is a

  432. Christocentric

  433. activity of God.

  434. He is the creator.

  435. I think very often

  436. we view the father

  437. as the creator.

  438. I think what we

  439. need to see is

  440. that creation

  441. is a revelation

  442. of God.

  443. Christ is the Logos.

  444. Without him

  445. was not anything

  446. made that was made.

  447. And everything

  448. made came through

  449. him, and he is

  450. the one active

  451. in creation.

  452. Now you're going

  453. to get intellectual

  454. indigestion now

  455. because I'm going

  456. to pour a great

  457. bulk of material

  458. to you in about

  459. ten minutes

  460. about that creation.

  461. Okay?

  462. When God created,

  463. certain things

  464. were true

  465. about that creation.

  466. Certain characteristics

  467. described it.

  468. Characteristics,

  469. some of which

  470. we have in our

  471. world today,

  472. others that we

  473. do not have

  474. in our world

  475. today.

  476. The first thing

  477. that God created

  478. was life, right?

  479. It's interesting,

  480. that was created

  481. on day one,

  482. but the sun

  483. wasn't created

  484. until day four.

  485. So in the biblical

  486. view,

  487. life precedes

  488. the sun.

  489. And it's interesting

  490. if you read

  491. the book of Revelation,

  492. light is going

  493. to be after

  494. the sun as well

  495. because in the

  496. new heaven

  497. and new earth,

  498. there is no need

  499. of sun for the

  500. Lamb is the light

  501. of it.

  502. So you have

  503. the light-darkness

  504. boundary,

  505. and we have

  506. light-darkness

  507. today,

  508. don't we?

  509. We have that

  510. same boundary

  511. that God created

  512. at the beginning,

  513. and we have

  514. that boundary,

  515. and that boundary

  516. has been a constant.

  517. The second thing

  518. God created

  519. was a firmament,

  520. and the purpose

  521. of the firmament

  522. was to divide

  523. water from water,

  524. and the firmament

  525. was called heaven,

  526. and God had

  527. water above

  528. the firmament,

  529. a water canopy

  530. above the firmament,

  531. and then he had

  532. water on the earth.

  533. Now, we do not

  534. have a water canopy

  535. above our firmament,

  536. do we?

  537. May I suggest

  538. some things to you?

  539. You go back

  540. and read it.

  541. God created

  542. a firmament

  543. which divided

  544. water from water.

  545. With a water canopy

  546. above our present

  547. atmospheric heavens,

  548. we would have

  549. a wholly different

  550. climate factor

  551. governing our earth.

  552. water.

  553. There would be

  554. no poles,

  555. no polar ice caps.

  556. There would be

  557. absolutely

  558. a temperate climate

  559. over the face

  560. of the entire earth.

  561. There would be

  562. no vast ice areas

  563. unable to support life

  564. and covered

  565. with a very thick

  566. ice cap.

  567. If indeed

  568. in our world

  569. there was water

  570. above the firmament

  571. as it was

  572. at the time of creation,

  573. the quality

  574. and climate of life

  575. would be very different.

  576. While that water

  577. was up there

  578. before the flood,

  579. people lived

  580. very long lives

  581. didn't they?

  582. And right after

  583. the flood,

  584. lifespan went smooth.

  585. That water canopy

  586. no doubt

  587. acted as a filter

  588. that handled

  589. some of the

  590. cosmic radiation

  591. and also the

  592. x-ray of the sun.

  593. Now we know

  594. today that the

  595. x-ray is very

  596. much a part

  597. of the aging process

  598. for life in our world.

  599. You ladies who

  600. love to

  601. eye out in the sun

  602. and get all

  603. sun tan,

  604. aren't helping

  605. yourself

  606. and particularly

  607. as far as aging

  608. is concerned

  609. for you know

  610. what it does

  611. to your skin.

  612. Well,

  613. we had longevity

  614. of life

  615. in that time period.

  616. There was probably

  617. a temperate climate.

  618. The water was

  619. over the face

  620. of the entire earth

  621. and the third thing

  622. God did was

  623. he said

  624. let the waters

  625. be gathered together

  626. into 17 oceans,

  627. right?

  628. Now what does it say?

  629. Let the waters

  630. be gathered together

  631. into how many places?

  632. one place.

  633. I suggest to you

  634. that the world

  635. as it came

  636. from the hand

  637. of God

  638. was not 70%

  639. drowned with water

  640. as our world

  641. is today.

  642. I suggest to you

  643. when you read

  644. Genesis 1 carefully

  645. you find

  646. that the sea

  647. or the water

  648. was gathered

  649. together into

  650. one place

  651. and there was

  652. a very large

  653. contiguous landmass

  654. not divided

  655. by vast oceans

  656. as we find

  657. in our world

  658. today.

  659. That the landmass

  660. was probably

  661. contiguous

  662. that is

  663. it was all

  664. joined together

  665. and there was

  666. one large

  667. body of water

  668. in which God

  669. had caused

  670. the water

  671. that covered

  672. the entire earth

  673. to be gathered

  674. together

  675. and the dry land

  676. to appear.

  677. When you go

  678. to the book

  679. of Revelation

  680. and you read

  681. about the new heaven

  682. and the new earth

  683. the first thing

  684. John saw was

  685. that there was

  686. no more sea.

  687. Remember that?

  688. The new earth

  689. when it comes

  690. from the hand

  691. of God

  692. is going

  693. to be

  694. oceanless.

  695. You can look

  696. at the present

  697. world and say

  698. the world

  699. has always

  700. been like this

  701. it's always

  702. been 73%

  703. of our earth

  704. is ground

  705. with water

  706. and it will

  707. always be

  708. that way

  709. because of

  710. the relationship

  711. of water

  712. to earth

  713. and the climate

  714. factors

  715. and the polar

  716. ice caps

  717. and all the

  718. tectonic

  719. and earthquake

  720. activities

  721. and you'd be

  722. wrong.

  723. When God

  724. created the world

  725. the waters

  726. were in one

  727. place

  728. and there was

  729. one contiguous

  730. landmass.

  731. God said

  732. to the earth

  733. let the earth

  734. bring form

  735. grass and herbs

  736. and fruit trees

  737. and let them

  738. reproduce after

  739. their kind.

  740. Now do you

  741. suppose the earth

  742. obeyed that

  743. creative field?

  744. Suppose there

  745. were vast

  746. deserts like

  747. the Sahara

  748. desert that

  749. said I'm

  750. trying to learn

  751. but I just

  752. need it?

  753. Bad salt

  754. plants unable

  755. to support

  756. vegetable life?

  757. You can go

  758. out in our

  759. world today

  760. and you can

  761. look at

  762. salt flats

  763. and you can

  764. look at

  765. deserts

  766. and you can

  767. say there

  768. have always

  769. been wastelands

  770. incapable of

  771. supporting vegetation

  772. in the world

  773. and you'd be

  774. wrong ladies

  775. and gentlemen

  776. because the

  777. present isn't

  778. the key to

  779. the past

  780. but scripture

  781. is.

  782. For God

  783. said to the

  784. earth

  785. let the earth

  786. bring forth

  787. and the scripture

  788. says so the

  789. earth brought

  790. forth.

  791. That first

  792. biblical world

  793. was covered

  794. with a rich

  795. luxuriant

  796. verdant

  797. vegetable

  798. coverage.

  799. There were

  800. no vast

  801. areas

  802. incapable of

  803. supporting

  804. vegetable

  805. life.

  806. I don't

  807. have time

  808. to go

  809. through this

  810. entire

  811. creation

  812. structure

  813. and show

  814. you the

  815. characteristics.

  816. Let me

  817. assert some

  818. other things

  819. to you that

  820. are essential

  821. though.

  822. When God

  823. finished creation

  824. he said to

  825. man I give

  826. you the fruit

  827. of the trees

  828. and I give

  829. you the herb

  830. of the field

  831. and that's

  832. going to be

  833. your food

  834. and man

  835. was vegetarian.

  836. And God

  837. said to the

  838. animals I

  839. have given

  840. you every

  841. green herb

  842. for food.

  843. And as the

  844. world came

  845. from the

  846. hand of

  847. God there

  848. was no

  849. death in

  850. the human

  851. kingdom or

  852. in the

  853. animal

  854. kingdom.

  855. Now you

  856. say there

  857. was death

  858. in the

  859. plant

  860. kingdom.

  861. Yes there

  862. was.

  863. But we

  864. need to

  865. realize that

  866. plants are

  867. never called

  868. in the

  869. Bible living

  870. creatures.

  871. That is

  872. they do

  873. not have

  874. an animating

  875. life principle.

  876. And God

  877. did plan

  878. recycling in

  879. the plant

  880. kingdom for

  881. the basis

  882. of sustaining

  883. the animate

  884. creation, man

  885. and the

  886. animals.

  887. And God

  888. gave to man

  889. and to the

  890. animals vegetable

  891. life or food

  892. for life.

  893. That means that

  894. the balance in

  895. nature was very

  896. much different

  897. than we know

  898. today.

  899. Is that right?

  900. I sit in my

  901. yard every

  902. spring and I

  903. rejoice when

  904. those lovely

  905. little birds

  906. come who go in

  907. those high

  908. houses because

  909. I know they're

  910. going to eat

  911. mosquitoes and

  912. I'll be able to

  913. sit out in my

  914. yard.

  915. What do you

  916. call those

  917. things?

  918. Marlins.

  919. Couldn't think

  920. of it for a

  921. moment.

  922. Yeah.

  923. Well you say

  924. if marlins and

  925. birds didn't eat

  926. mosquitoes you

  927. couldn't live in

  928. this world,

  929. right?

  930. And if foxes

  931. didn't kill

  932. rabbits there'd

  933. be no place to

  934. put your foot on

  935. the ground.

  936. And therefore

  937. it's always been

  938. that way,

  939. right?

  940. Animals have

  941. had to prey on

  942. each other and

  943. if they prey on

  944. each other they

  945. that's how you

  946. control animal

  947. population,

  948. right?

  949. And therefore

  950. that's what our

  951. world is like and

  952. that's the way

  953. God is treating

  954. each other and

  955. God commanded the

  956. animals to be

  957. fruitful and

  958. multiply and he

  959. commanded man to

  960. be fruitful and

  961. multiply for it is

  962. God's will that his

  963. earth be full of

  964. his creatures.

  965. Contrary to many

  966. contemporary

  967. sociologists who

  968. would like to use

  969. all of their

  970. energies to scare

  971. us to death with

  972. overpopulation so

  973. that man will be

  974. able to manipulate

  975. and control

  976. population growth.

  977. Well you see the

  978. character of life in

  979. that world was very

  980. much different than

  981. the character of life

  982. we find in our

  983. world.

  984. There's another thing

  985. that was true in

  986. that world that's not

  987. true in our world and

  988. that's this.

  989. Man was king of the

  990. animals.

  991. King Kong wasn't

  992. king.

  993. Adam was king.

  994. God said to man,

  995. have dominion over

  996. the animals.

  997. And man stood under

  998. God as God's vice

  999. region.

  1000. Perfect balance

  1001. between man and the

  1002. animals, man ruled

  1003. them.

  1004. Perfect balance

  1005. between man and the

  1006. vegetable kingdom.

  1007. Perfect balance between

  1008. man and his wife.

  1009. Perfect balance in

  1010. relationship between man

  1011. and God.

  1012. And everything

  1013. functioned and God

1014. said behold it is very

  1015. good and right

  1016. relationships were

  1017. established but

  1018. something changed it.

  1019. Sin.

1020. Let me give you a

  1021. quick summary of

  1022. Genesis chapter 3.

    Genesis 3 chapter mention

  1023. If you don't believe

  1024. I'm giving you

  1025. scripture, I want you

1026. to go home today and

  1027. read these first three

  1028. chapters.

1029. If I read it to you and

1030. then comment on it, I

  1031. won't get finished.

  1032. All right, in Genesis

    Genesis 3 chapter mention

1033. chapter 3 we find Adam

  1034. rebels against God along

1035. with his wife and as a

  1036. consequence certain

  1037. judgments come into the

  1038. world.

  1039. The first judgment comes

1040. on an animal known as a

  1041. serpent.

  1042. The serpent was the

  1043. most sophisticated form of

  1044. animal life that God

1045. created but as a part of

1046. its judgment it is now

  1047. crawling on its belly.

1048. You can look at serpents

  1049. till doomsday and

  1050. conclude that they've

  1051. always crawled on their

  1052. belly because they crawl

1053. on their belly now and

  1054. you'd be wrong.

  1055. The serpent was the

1056. highest form of the land

  1057. animals before that

  1058. judgment according to

  1059. Genesis 3.

  1060. Woman was cursed.

  1061. Excuse me, judge.

1062. Curse is not used to.

1063. God said to the woman,

  1064. I will greatly multiply

  1065. thy pain and thy

  1066. conceptions.

1067. woman was going to have

  1068. an increase of two

  1069. things.

1070. She's going to have an

1071. increase of pain and an

  1072. increase of conceptions.

1073. I suggest to you that the

  1074. procreation balance at

  1075. creation in which man

1076. would have been able to

  1077. reproduce himself was not

  1078. the 28-day fertility cycle

  1079. in which woman operates

  1080. today.

1081. Adam and Eve could have

1082. existed in the garden up

  1083. to 70 years.

  1084. We usually conclude that

1085. if God finished the work

1086. on the sixth day and the

  1087. seventh day God rested,

1088. by Sunday noon they had

1089. eaten of the fruit, right?

1090. Why do we conclude that?

  1091. Because if they hadn't,

  1092. they would have had

  1093. babies, right?

  1094. Wrong.

1095. Because God said to Eve,

1096. I'm going to multiply your

  1097. conception.

1098. I suggest to you that the

  1099. 28-day fertility cycle with

1100. which woman lives today has

1101. come as a consequence of

  1102. sin.

1103. It has come about because

1104. the fact that death was

  1105. introduced and population

1106. structure would have to now

1107. be adapted to the principle

1108. of death and woman is going

1109. to be capable of multiple

  1110. conception.

1111. Can you imagine what it was

1112. like for a woman in the

  1113. post-Edenic world and before

1114. the flood when they lived for

  1115. seven, eight, nine hundred

1116. years, fertile from the age of

  1117. 75 to the age of 750 to 800

1118. under judgment of God for

  1119. multiple conception?

1120. Can you imagine how many

1121. children could be born under

  1122. those circumstances?

1123. So, sorry girls, you're kind

1124. of like the old gray mare,

1125. you just ain't what you used

  1126. to be.

1127. There's been some changes and

  1128. it's been a dramatic change

  1129. and it's a change in process.

1130. You might be a gynecologist,

1131. you might be an obstetrician and

1132. you might conclude that having

1133. worked on and worked with

1134. thousands of women that the

1135. 28-day fertility cycle and when

  1136. ovulation takes place and

  1137. fertility is present, that

1138. indeed under those conditions a

1139. woman can become impregnated by

1140. the sperm and it's always been

1141. that way and that woman would

1142. always have pain in childbirth

1143. because to move a child down the

1144. birth canal is always going to

  1145. involve stretching and tearing

1146. and you'd be wrong because Eve was

1147. judged by God to pain at childbirth

  1148. and to multiple conception.

1149. So there have been changes.

1150. In point of fact, so dramatic have

1151. been the changes that there's been

1152. very few things you have ever seen

1153. just like God created, if anything

  1154. at all.

1155. Let's see, what else do I have time

  1156. to cover here?

  1157. Death comes, right?

1158. Death comes into the world.

1159. Man is subject to death.

1160. The human kingdom is subject to death.

1161. The animal kingdom is subject to

  1162. death.

1163. Man loses his dominion over the

  1164. animals.

1165. Man now stays in tyranny of the

1166. animals and the animals are in

1167. conflict with man for limited

  1168. food supply.

  1169. God judges the earth.

  1170. He says to Adam,

1171. Cursed is the ground for thy sake.

1172. In toil and in the sweat of thy

1173. face are you going to eat bread

1174. because the earth is no longer

1175. going to yield its strength to

1176. thee and an earth which was once

1177. covered with a pristine, worthwhile,

1178. noble vegetable coverage is now

1179. going to have mixed with it thorns,

  1180. thistles, and noxious growth.

1181. Dandelion, boxtail, and all that

1182. stuff that I keep cutting with my

1183. lawnmower and that I pay a lot of

1184. money to try to get rid of every

  1185. year.

1186. The quality of vegetable life

  1187. changes.

1188. The character of the productivity of

1189. the soil changes so it isn't as if

1190. God created and everything has

1191. remained constant just like it was

  1192. when God created it.

  1193. There have been changes.

1194. These changes have come because God

1195. has acted directly in history by

  1196. judgment.

1197. Now that second biblical world from

1198. the time of the fall to the time of

1199. the flood, the water vapor canopy was

  1200. still above the heavens.

1201. There was still a temperate climate on

1202. the face of the entire earth.

1203. The day-night cycle still operated.

1204. There was no rainfall in those first two

1205. biblical worlds for the scripture

1206. tells us that a moisture came up from

1207. the midst of the ground.

1208. water was stored in the mantle of the

1209. earth under pressure and it caused the

1210. mist that came up and watered the face

1211. of the ground and the source of

1212. moisture came from the earth through

1213. small fissures in the earth's crust that

1214. watered the earth and rainfall wasn't

1215. the source of moisture in those worlds.

1216. And life developed in 1656 years after

1217. Adam was driven out of the garden.

1218. Life developed and culture developed

1219. through two lines, the line of Cain and

  1220. the line of Seth.

1221. And these two lines came one in seven

1222. generations and one in ten to a

1223. threefold breakdown and these two lines

1224. developed one in rebellion against God

1225. one a godly line seeking to serve God

1226. and population grew and culture and

1227. technology developed until you come to

1228. Genesis 6 and you read that God says

1229. the earth is so full of violence and it

1230. is so wicked he repents that he ever made

1231. it and he's going to destroy it in all

  1232. flesh with it.

  1233. Except.

  1234. No.

  1235. There's one righteous man.

  1236. No.

1237. In Genesis 6 we find that there's an

1238. intermingling by marriage of two lines.

1239. The consequence of this intermingling is

1240. a breakdown of moral principle and

  1241. therefore ultimately moral principles

  1242. are set aside.

  1243. Anarchy sets in.

  1244. Rebellion.

  1245. Indeed rebellion.

  1246. Lawlessness.

1247. Violence characterize the world and God

  1248. says judgment is coming.

1249. Do you know how many people there could

1250. have been in that world ladies and

  1251. gentlemen?

1252. Do you know how many people there could

1253. have been on the earth at the time of

1254. the flood with only six children per

  1255. family?

1256. There could have been one billion people

  1257. at flood times.

1258. I think most of us had the notion that

1259. perhaps the human family had developed

1260. the 40,000 and they were in one little

  1261. corner of the world.

1262. The Bible seems to teach that the

1263. whole earth was populated by God's

1264. image bearers and the whole earth was

1265. populated by the animal kingdom and

1266. there was a vast population and when

1267. God said a flood was coming it was

1268. going to bring dramatic changes to

  1269. life in this world.

1270. A whole generation of godly people

1271. lost their heritage so that there was

1272. only one righteous perfect man at flood

1273. time and his name was Noah.

1274. Isn't it interesting that Christ says it

1275. was in the days of Noah so shall it be in

1276. the days of the coming of the son of

  1277. man.

1278. They're going to be marrying and giving

  1279. in marriage.

1280. And moral principles and values will be

1281. breaking down in the Christian

1282. community and the vitality of the

1283. Christian community will be sacked as

1284. indeed the value system of the pagan all

1285. of a sudden infiltrates and permeates the

1286. thinking of the believer so that as far

1287. as actual external values by which one

1288. lives there'll be no way to mark a

1289. distinction between those who walk

1290. with God and those who don't.

1291. And I almost think that day is right

  1292. here.

1293. You say well you don't know me very

1294. well no but I know your kids I've had

1295. hundreds of them at the college and

1296. I'll tell you something they don't come

1297. to Cedarville with a Christian value

  1298. system.

1299. Oh you say but the highest value of my

1300. life is God and Maranatha Baptist

1301. and Pastor Brock and the school and

  1302. everything.

1303. Is that where you give your time and

  1304. your energy?

1305. Stop listening to what you're saying

1306. and see what you do with your time.

1307. Stop listening to the system that you

1308. constantly spit out of your mouth.

1309. In fact you ought to treat yourself as a

  1310. liar.

1311. Don't assume that what you say actually

  1312. constitutes it.

1313. See where your energy goes.

1314. See where you spend your thought time.

1315. See where you give your actual

  1316. chronological time.

1317. What is it you pursue?

1318. For most of us we're caught in the

1319. same value system that permeates our

  1320. culture.

  1321. The dollar.

  1322. The possession.

1323. And we'll put our blood money in the

1324. offering plate and send the

  1325. missionaries out and we'll articulate a

1326. right vocabulary but the structure and

1327. the goal of our life is geared to the

1328. pursuit of that which satisfies us.

  1329. The flood came.

1330. The windows of heaven were open.

1331. This is where I believe God released the

1332. water canopy that was suspended above the

1333. firmament and that the primary source of

1334. water for the flood was the release of that

1335. water canopy through the windows of heaven

1336. and the fountains of the great deep were

  1337. broken up.

1338. The scripture says subterranean oceans in

1339. the earth's crust were released under

1340. terrific pressure as large cracks or

1341. earthquake activity took place and all of a

1342. sudden a sudden destruction hit the

1343. world and the character of this

  1344. destruction is absolutely devastating.

1345. I suggest to you that under flood

1346. conditions when that water was on the

1347. face of the earth when those oceanic

1348. structures in the in the crust of the

1349. earth were released that what we have is

1350. an earth that is under tremendous

1351. pressure and it's an earth going through

  1352. fantastic catastrophe.

1353. Ladies and gentlemen if we had a water

1354. column on the earth 10,000 feet high as a

1355. flood position do you know how much

1356. pressure that is represented down on the

1357. outer side of the earth's crust of the

  1358. sea level?

1359. Two and one quarter times of the pressure

1360. for square inch under a 10,000 foot water

  1361. column.

1362. You know what it is now?

  1363. 14.7.

1364. You realize our earth's crust is suspended

  1365. between two pressure systems.

1366. We've got gravity pressing down on the

1367. outside at 14.7 times of pressure per

  1368. square inch.

1369. On the underside of our crust we have fluid

1370. inside of our earth and our earth is

1371. spinning and this fluid is pressing up by

1372. centrifugal force and that fluid pressing

1373. up is pressing against the lower side of

1374. this crust and gravity and magnetism are

1375. pressing down on the outer side and

1376. therefore what you walk on is suspended

1377. in between two pressure systems.

1378. Nowhere near as solid as you think it is.

1379. Under flood activity if the highest mountains

1380. were covered I suggest to you that the

1381. crust of this earth looked like a bellows.

  1382. It was in movement.

1383. I suggest to you that the hydrocarbons that

1384. we know of in our world today were formed

  1385. under these conditions.

1386. The vast amount of vegetable life and vast

1387. amount of animal life was tracked under

1388. terrific tectonic activity and with this

1389. pressure were fossilized in the crust of

  1390. the earth.

1391. I suggest to you that mountain ranges as we

1392. know them today have come as a consequence

  1393. of this activity.

1394. I don't believe God created the Alps.

1395. I don't believe God created the Andes.

1396. I believe all of the typography of our present

1397. earth was formed under flood conditions.

  1398. You say you're a radical, no?

1399. What amazes me is this.

1400. If all of this that I look at is so beautiful

1401. and it's all been affected by sin, no wonder

1402. John runs out of words to describe the new

  1403. earth.

1404. If we find such beauty in what we have around

1405. us today, all of it permeated and affected

1406. by the image bearer rebelling against God.

1407. Now I don't have time to delineate all of

  1408. this.

  1409. Flood conditions bring changes.

  1410. Now the climate changes.

1411. We have formation of polar ice caps.

1412. You say, where'd all that water go?

1413. Hey, a lot of it's still here.

1414. That's why 73% of our earth is ground by

  1415. water.

1416. Don't believe it was created that way.

1417. Don't believe it's going to remain that

  1418. way.

  1419. So the changes come.

1420. And again I say to you, science says

1421. present process is able to explain the

1422. origin, the development of life, and to

  1423. predict the future.

1424. That's why they say, where is the promise

  1425. of his coming?

1426. Because nothing like this ever happened

  1427. before.

1428. Peter says they've got amnesia, which they

  1429. willfully choose.

1430. They have forgotten that the world being in

1431. the water and out of the water, being

  1432. overflowed with water, perished.

1433. And so dramatic was that change, Peter

1434. says, that the heavens that then were and

1435. the earth passed away, but we have heavens

1436. and earth which are now, and our present

1437. heaven and earth is being stored with fire

1438. in the heavens, the same place where the

1439. water was, for a day of perdition of

  1440. ungodly men.

1441. For the heavens shall melt with a fervent

1442. heat and pass away with a great noise, and

1443. everything being on fire shall burn up.

1444. The same place where God stored the water

1445. by his word for that first catastrophic

1446. universal judgment, God has presently stored

1447. fire in the same heavens for a second

1448. universal catastrophic judgment, which is

  1449. going to terminate history.

1450. And it's going to bring new heaven and new

  1451. earth.

1452. Not only is present process not adequate

1453. to explain the past, but it's inadequate to

  1454. predict the future.

1455. So it seems to me that when it comes to

1456. origins and development of life, I cannot at

1457. all operate with a contemporary viewpoint.

1458. I'm just going to simply have to say, Mr.

1459. Scientist, I cannot accept your basic

1460. principle of operation because it will not

1461. square with what my Bible tells me.

1462. And I refuse to accommodate my Bible to what

1463. science teaches because I'm confident of

1464. this, that when all the facts are in, this book

1465. will be vindicated as true and accurate in

  1466. every assertion it makes.

1467. And I'll never misplace my confidence if I place

1468. it in what God has said.

1469. Now there's an area, and I'll just touch it and

1470. then close by giving you a couple of minutes for

  1471. questions.

1472. There's a whole area that we also could think

1473. about, and that's this biblical idea of a kind.

1474. God created the kind and said, reproduce after

  1475. your kind.

1476. And there has been change and development in the

  1477. kind, ladies and gentlemen.

1478. How many original people belong to mankind at

  1479. creation?

  1480. How many?

1481. You could say two or one if you wish.

  1482. It really doesn't matter.

1483. From one we got two.

1484. For Eve was derived from that.

  1485. There were two.

  1486. Were they black?

  1487. Were they white?

1488. What racial structure were there?

1489. Were there three original pairs, one for each

  1490. race created?

  1491. One pair, right?

1492. And therefore the racial continuum as we know

1493. it today has developed since creation from the

  1494. original pair.

  1495. Is that not right?

1496. I don't know any other way to explain.

1497. I frankly believe it also developed after the

  1498. flood.

1499. For I do not believe that the three sons of Noah

  1500. represented the three races.

1501. And therefore I think the racial development as we

1502. know it today, and I want to be careful, it's a

  1503. continuum.

1504. There probably isn't one racially pure person in

  1505. this room.

  1506. That's a myth.

1507. All of us probably have racial mixture somewhere in

  1508. history.

1509. But I would believe that the race is developed in the

  1510. post-blood world.

1511. Isn't it interesting that God was able to

1512. preserve the whole created kind of man,

1513. by how many people on the ark?

  1514. Eight.

1515. Now you can go through all the animals that we know

1516. about and you can work that out.

1517. Horses belong to a kind.

1518. Horse kind probably had two original created pairs.

1519. The ass-like variety and the horse-like variety.

1520. You say, why two pairs?

1521. Because of difference in chromosome count, but they're

1522. still capable of true chemical fertilization.

1523. That is, they are able to chemically fertilize the

  1524. seed.

  1525. I believe that's what constitutes a kind.

  1526. It's a principle of reproduction.

1527. Now the entire horse kind could have been preserved

1528. through the flood in the ark with four animals.

1529. Male and female horse and male and female animals.

1530. You don't need palominos and shetlands and arabians.

1531. He didn't preserve male and female of every variety of

  1532. the kind.

  1533. He preserved the kind.

1534. Dog kind probably had three originally created pairs.

  1535. There's a dog-like variety, the hyena-like variety,

  1536. and the fox-like variety.

1537. They're all capable of true chemical fertilization.

1538. Could have preserved the entire dog kind with six animals

  1539. on the ark.

1540. You say, I thought he had chihuahuas and poodles.

1541. He had to have poodles.

1542. He'd have been lonely without his poodle on the ark,

  1543. wouldn't he?

1544. Who would he have talked to?

  1545. Only, no.

  1546. Okay?

1547. But I don't think we should even become static in our

1548. concept of what constitutes a kind and conclude that

1549. there has been no development or change within the

  1550. created kind.

  1551. I believe there has.

1552. I believe I could manifest it biblically.

  1553. What am I saying?

  1554. I'm saying this.

1555. That I hold to recent creation in six 24-hour days,

  1556. probably 8,000 to 10,000 years ago,

1557. and that will show you how obscurantist I really am.

1558. That this creation, when it came from the hand of God,

  1559. was perfect.

1560. That as a consequence of human sin,

1561. God has acted in the processes of nature by judgment.

1562. He has brought about change,

1563. and I've got to go back and trace those changes

1564. if I want to see how life has developed

1565. and how the quality of life has changed in the world.

1566. And if I want to see what's future,

1567. I've got to go what God has said about the future,

1568. and I've got to learn eschatology

1569. to see indeed what God is going to do yet in the future

1570. to change the quality and the processes

1571. that are extant in nature.

  1572. In the kingdom,

1573. you recall that the lion's going to eat straw again,

  1574. isn't it?

1575. And children are going to leave them.

1576. And the lion and the lamb are going to play together.

1577. There's going to be changes yet to come, eh?

1578. So that the key to the past is scripture.

1579. The key to the understanding of development is scripture.

  1580. I hold to creationism.

  1581. That doesn't mean I'm a statusist who believes

1582. everything is in situ just like God created it.

1583. No, there has been change.

1584. Judgment gives me a model to trace it.

1585. It seems to me we don't have to back down

1586. in this area of art.

  1587. We've got three minutes.

1588. I was going to try to leave a tent to answer questions.

  1589. I won't harass you like me.

  1590. For participation.

  1591. Can I ask a question?

  1592. Sure.

  1593. Oh, all right.

1594. Did you equate Genesis 1-1 with the six days?

  1595. Yes, I did.

  1596. He didn't say that.

1597. If I equate it with the six days.

  1598. In the beginning,

1599. God created the heavens and the earth.

  1600. Exodus 20-11.

  1601. In six days,

1602. Jehovah made the heavens and the earth.

  1603. People will say,

1604. but there's a difference between made and created, right?

1605. Well, if you go to Genesis 1-26 and 27,

1606. you'll find that God says,

1607. let us make man in our image.

1608. And then the next verse says,

1609. so God created man in his image.

  1610. And therefore,

1611. I do not believe the Hebrew verb bara

1612. and the Hebrew verb asah

  1613. have different meanings.

  1614. I believe they're synonyms.

1615. So, yes, I do put Genesis 1-1 into the six days.

1616. All right, I'll nutshell it this way.

1617. I'm dealing it from chronologies.

  1618. I can't go completely backwards.

  1619. In other words,

1620. it's easy to find out

1621. how long between Adam and the flood.

1622. I mean, I can tell you that.

  1623. There's 1,656 years there

1624. if you take Genesis 5

1625. to be a trustworthy chronology.

1626. So you have approximately 18 generations.

1627. Now, we can date the Exodus

  1628. rather accurately.

  1629. Now, it's between,

1630. it's from the Exodus back to the flood

1631. that we break down in B.C.

  1632. dating with certainty.

1633. But allowing for all the possible gaps

  1634. that could be there.

1635. Let me show you an instance of a gap.

1636. Who's Moses' father and mother?

  1637. Amram and Jochebed, right?

1638. Well, if that's father and mother,

1639. then Moses had 2,700 living cousins,

1640. which is a little bit impossible.

1641. What we need to realize is

1642. the son of, in Hebrew,

1643. is not a technical phrase,

1644. and it often can refer

  1645. to grandparent-type relationships.

1646. So you can't be positive

  1647. in every instance.

1648. So what I'm doing here

  1649. is simply leaving room

  1650. for the possible gaps.

  1651. Also, I would think

  1652. that we would have

  1653. a terrific change

  1654. in radiocarbon activity

1655. as a consequence of the flood.

  1656. And carbon-14,

  1657. which has a half-life

  1658. of 3,007 years,

1659. would give us a full life

  1660. of 7,004 years,

1661. which is what I would judge

1662. to be approximately flood time.

1663. See, if you put a water canopy up there,

  1664. the cosmic radiation

  1665. that bombards us today,

  1666. which science uses

  1667. for its dating methods,

  1668. by the way,

  1669. would clearly be affected

  1670. by that vapor canopy.

1671. So those two things, basically,

1672. are what I would use there.

  1673. Thank you.

  1674. You must admit

  1675. that the 930 class

1676. has a great deal of variety,

  1677. doesn't it?

1678. Are you glad you came this morning?

  1679. I would remind you

  1680. that Professor Greer

1681. will be back with us

  1682. in July.

1683. So make a note of that.

1684. His topic will not be the same then,

  1685. although I'm sure

1686. it will have some of the foundation

1687. that you've had this morning.

  1688. I'd remind you

1689. that each week is different.

1690. Some of you do not realize,

  1691. although the class

  1692. is mentioned for 930,

1693. it really starts at 920,

1695. that comes their full time

  1696. to speak.

1697. We're happy that you came

  1698. this morning.

  1699. You may fellowship

  1700. for a few moments.

  1701. When the prelude starts,

  1702. I would appreciate

  1703. if you'd be quiet.

  1704. Greet Mr. Greer,

  1705. encourage him,

1706. and thank him for coming.

1707. It takes time to come.

1708. We appreciate all of those

  1709. who have taken...

  1710. he's what is...

  1711. So the most time

  1712. you can't know

1713. I'm not going to be

1714. I'm not going to be
