  1. I find myself week after week being encouraged by the singing here, especially when we're singing about our Savior and what He accomplished for us in the cross.

  2. He gives power to us through His Spirit and through His Word.

  3. And He gives that to us. He invites us in. He welcomes us to participate in fellowship with Him that will lead us to power.

  4. Well, this morning as we are making our way, continue to make our way through the Gospel of John, we come to this next narrative, this next event in the series, in the story.

  5. Last week we saw that the empty tomb leads to rising faith.

  6. However inadequate it is in the moment, it's still faith that God begins to initiate in the hearts of His people.

  7. And this morning we're going to see that the empty tomb leads to rising hope.

  8. Do you need hope this morning?

  9. Are there difficulties in your life? Are there pressures that are weighing down on you today?

  10. Are there sins in your life that would lead you to lose hope in the wonder of Christ's ability to meet you where you are and to help to move you to the place where you want to be?

  11. Maybe you're tired just for yourself in knowing the sin in your life and you're just frustrated with yourself.

  12. And if you're frustrated with yourself, how could God ever love you when you can't even love yourself?

  13. Is there hope for you today?

  14. I want you to know through this story, the story of Mary, there is hope for you today.

  15. I think one of the difficulties in coming to this story is that any of us who've grown up in the church,

  16. we're reminded of the great heroes of the faith.

  17. We love the children's stories that we get in Awana, we get in Sunday school, we get in church time,

  18. and now we have on our little phone apps, and any of you who watch Veggie Tales with your kids and Bible stories,

  19. just the accessibility of the Bible stories, and it's a wonderful thing.

  20. But the common theme that comes to light in all of these stories are men and women of extraordinary faith,

  21. men and women who seem to have it all together,

  22. men and women who are doing the amazing in the power of God,

  23. men and women who never seem to falter,

  24. men and women who just shine in moments of darkness and difficulty.

  25. We think of the story of Noah and his boys in building the ark.

  26. Great story of faith.

  27. Or we think about the story of Abraham and his willingness to offer his son Isaac.

  28. We think about the story of Joseph and his brothers,

  29. and there he is being elevated to the second position in all of the land of Egypt.

  30. Or the story of David and Goliath.

  31. Or the story of Daniel and his friends facing the lions and facing the fire, the fiery furnace.

  32. Those are the stories that come to the forefront.

  33. And maybe it's not necessarily because our teachers have done a bad job

  34. at trying to develop the scene of the scripture for us and help us see the good and the bad.

  35. But as children, what we grab onto are the heroes of the faith that never seem to falter.

  36. And so we carry these concepts with us.

  37. And we begin to wonder,

  38. if we're not like David,

  39. or if we're not like Abraham,

  40. then is there really hope for me?

  41. Is it really worth me trying to run this race

  42. because I always seem to fall flat on my face?

  43. Is there any hope?

  44. And so we import into the rest of the scripture

  45. these ideas that we have as children.

  46. And we begin to wonder,

  47. if there really is any intersection points in the word

  48. that it can really deal with the issues of life.

  49. Can it really meet me where I'm at?

  50. Can it really help me overcome the crisis that I face?

  51. And I want you to know this morning

  52. that one of the joys of verse-by-verse teaching

  53. is we come not only to the mountain peaks of the scripture,

  54. but we also hit the valleys.

  55. And this morning we'll get a chance to look at some valleys

  56. for this woman, Mary Magdalene.

  57. Enter her story

  58. and see how Christ met her where she was.

  59. And as we look at the story of Mary,

  60. we can see Mary was a real person.

  61. Mary can identify with me.

  62. I can identify with Mary.

  63. And because of what Christ accomplished in her life,

  64. Christ can do the same for me.

  65. There is hope this morning because of the empty tomb.

  66. So if you need hope today,

  67. this is the story for you.

  68. So look with me, if you would,

  69. at John chapter 20.

    John 20 chapter mention

  70. Let's pray before we start

  71. because I have way too many notes,

  72. as you probably are very familiar with at this point.

  73. And so that we can move through this,

  74. we just need the help of the Lord

  75. so I can ignore the things that are secondary

  76. and focus on the things that are really primary today.

  77. So let me pray for us.

  78. Lord, as we look into your word,

  79. we want to meet with you.

  80. We don't want just an intellectual,

  81. scholastic, information dump.

  82. This morning we want to meet Jesus.

  83. We know you make yourself available to us.

  84. You say,

  85. come,

  86. all who are weary and heavy laden,

  87. and I will give you rest for your soul.

  88. Lord, this morning there are those today

  89. who need refreshment.

  90. There are those this morning who need rest for their soul.

  91. They're weary.

  92. They're hurting.

  93. Their emotions are raw.

  94. They're struggling.

  95. They're wondering if there's any hope today.

  96. And Lord, I pray that through the teaching of the scripture,

  97. they could know.

  98. As we come face to face with Mary's story,

  99. there is hope.

  100. Not hope in personal discipline.

  101. Not hope in pulling ourselves up by our bootstraps.

  102. Not hope in putting our own pieces together,

  103. but hope in surrendering the brokenness of our life

  104. to the handiwork of our almighty Savior,

  105. who can put those pieces together,

  106. and who can create wholeness and life

  107. out of death and brokenness.

  108. So meet with us today through your word.

  109. Minister to us as only you can.

  110. We pray in Jesus' name.

  111. Amen.

  112. John 20, verse 11.

    John 20:11

  113. I want to read just the opening phrase

  114. so that we can begin to understand where Mary was.

  115. And I want you to recognize,

  116. as we look at Mary's life,

  117. we're going to look at some progression of her life.

  118. First, we're going to look at her former condition.

  119. I want to spend some time there

  120. looking at her former condition.

  121. And let me begin with just this opening phrase

  122. in John 20, verse 11.

    John 20:11

  123. It says,

  124. But Mary stood weeping outside the tomb.

  125. Mary stood weeping outside the tomb.

  126. Now, if you were not with us last week,

  127. let me catch you up to where we are in the story.

  128. Mary came early with a number of her friends,

  129. and she comes the day after the Sabbath in order to anoint the body of Christ.

  130. He had been dead now for, this is the third morning.

  131. And she comes with her friends to do honor to Christ's body,

  132. to anoint it with spices,

  133. to prepare it in the way it should be prepared.

  134. And upon coming to the tomb,

  135. she recognizes along with her friends

  136. that the tomb is actually open.

  137. The stone that had been there

  138. to kind of keep out any grave robbers

  139. had been actually rolled back,

  140. and the body was no longer there.

  141. And to Mary's dismay,

  142. she takes off and runs

  143. for where she knows the disciples are.

  144. She meets John and Peter,

  145. and they come running to the tomb.

  146. They inspect it for themselves.

  147. They see that in actuality,

  148. Mary is right.

  149. The tomb is open.

  150. The grave clothes are lying there.

  151. They're not torn.

  152. They're not ripped.

  153. There's no apparent mishandling of the body.

  154. And they see the face cloth

  155. that's actually in a different spot,

  156. and they realize that something significant

  157. has taken place.

  158. And at this point,

  159. Peter and John,

  160. recognizing there was really nothing else

  161. they could do,

  162. turn around and head back

  163. to their own homes,

  164. to the places where they were staying.

  165. After all, what could they do?

  166. They couldn't appeal to Pilate

  167. because Pilate was the one

  168. who actually put Jesus on the cross.

  169. They couldn't report

  170. to the Jewish authorities

  171. because the Jewish authorities

  172. were just as happy

  173. about Jesus' death

  174. as Pilate was.

  175. Who else could they appeal to?

  176. So they turn around

  177. and they walk back

  178. to the places

  179. where they've been staying.

  180. But Mary now finds her way

  181. back to the tomb.

  182. And there's no indication

  183. that Mary has actually

  184. crossed paths again

  185. with Peter and John

  186. to hear their report.

  187. But here she is.

  188. She's standing outside the tomb,

  189. perhaps longing

  190. to have that feeling

  191. of closeness

  192. that she could have,

  193. knowing the place

  194. where Jesus had been

  195. and hoping that just being

  196. in proximity

  197. with where he was,

  198. there would be a sense

  199. of that fellowship

  200. that she so greatly

  201. longed to have.

  202. We find Mary weeping here

  203. at the very front

  204. of verse 11.

  205. And then in the next phrase,

  206. and as she wept,

  207. she stooped

  208. to look into the tomb.

  209. Now when the gospel writer

  210. is using this word,

  211. weep,

  212. he doesn't mean

  213. that there were just

  214. some tears in her eyes.

  215. But it is meant

  216. to express anguish

  217. and lament,

  218. this loud wailing

  219. that was so typical

  220. during that day.

  221. Every form of external

  222. emotional response

  223. that she could have,

  224. she was putting on display.

  225. She was, in a sense,

  226. out of control.

  227. Overcome by her grief.

  228. So much so that

  229. as we'll look into

  230. this passage,

  231. we'll see that the question

  232. of the angels to Mary is,

  233. Woman, why are you weeping?

  234. And then of Christ,

  235. who she thinks is the gardener,

  236. asks the same question,

  237. Woman, why are you weeping?

  238. This continuing emotional response

  239. of grief continues

  240. to cloud her thinking

  241. and to cloud her understanding.

  242. And she is overcome

  243. by grief.

  244. But why?

  245. Why would Mary be so gripped

  246. by sorrow?

  247. And I think a look

  248. at her former condition

  249. will help give us

  250. a sense of why

  251. this was so significant

  252. for her.

  253. I want to look first

  254. at her bondage.

  255. I want you to recognize

  256. where Mary came from.

  257. So we can appreciate

  258. a little bit

  259. why this was so significant

  260. for her.

  261. Her bondage.

  262. And much of what

  263. I am going to take

  264. in this particular section

  265. is from John MacArthur's book,

  266. Twelve Extraordinary Women.

  267. I would commend it to you.

  268. It is a great character sketch.

  269. And I would just encourage you

  270. to pick it up.

  271. It provides just some fullness

  272. of history

  273. and the breadth of Scripture

  274. that it helps to bring to bear

  275. in the lives of individuals

  276. we find in the Word.

  277. But we find from

  278. Mark chapter 16, verse 9,

    Mark 16:9

  279. and Luke chapter 8, verse 2,

    Luke 8:2

  280. we'll go there in a moment,

  281. but we find that Mary

  282. was not just a disciple of Christ,

  283. but Mary had formerly

  284. been inhabited by seven demons.

  285. It was significant for her.

  286. She was a woman under bondage.

  287. And her name, Mary Magdalene,

  288. is not because that was her surname,

  289. like Andrew Scheer.

  290. Scheer is my surname.

  291. But just to distinguish her

  292. from so many of the other Marys

  293. that we find in close vicinity

  294. in this narrative.

  295. Mary, the mother of Jesus.

  296. Mary, the mother of James.

  297. Mary, the mother of Joseph,

  298. the lesser.

  299. And so many other Marys

  300. that are part of this.

  301. Mary of Bethany.

  302. It was to distinguish her

  303. as an individual.

  304. And she's often placed

  305. at the front of the line

  306. in describing her

  307. because she was a prominent figure

  308. in this band of women disciples.

  309. This band of followers.

  310. If I can have the next slide here,

  311. you can see where Magdalene was.

  312. Maybe it's not as clear

  313. as I'd like it to be,

  314. but you can see it's about

  315. three miles north of Tiberias

  316. and about five miles south of Capernaum.

  317. Right there on the Sea of Galilee.

  318. And you would know

  319. that Jesus spent

  320. the bulk of his first two years

  321. of ministry in Galilee

  322. right in this area.

  323. Crisscrossing his way

  324. across this region.

  325. Spending time in the synagogues.

  326. Teaching by the Sea of Galilee.

  327. Ministering there

  328. right on the lake itself.

  329. And participating

  330. and going to people's homes.

  331. Eating meals with them.

  332. Healing entire villages

  333. of people of their infirmities.

  334. But especially

  335. in this particular region,

  336. healing multitudes of those

  337. who were demon-possessed.

  338. Mary Magdalene being one

  339. of those women.

  340. This sort of happened early on

  341. in Jesus' ministry.

  342. So why don't you keep your finger here

  343. in John chapter 20.

    John 20 chapter mention

  344. And I want to turn

  345. back to Luke chapter 8

    Luke 8 chapter mention

  346. for a moment.

  347. And I want to look at this together.

  348. together.

  349. In Luke chapter 8

    Luke 8:1–3

  350. verses 1 to 3.

  351. Luke chapter 8

    Luke 8:1–3

  352. verses 1 to 3.

  353. It says,

  354. Soon afterward,

  355. he went on through

  356. the cities and villages

  357. proclaiming and bringing

  358. the good news

  359. of the kingdom of God.

  360. And the twelve

  361. who were with him

  362. and also some of the women

  363. who had been healed

  364. of evil spirits

  365. and infirmities.

  366. Mary called Magdalene

  367. from whom

  368. seven demons

  369. had gone out.

  370. There her name

  371. pops up in this list

  372. at the very onset

  373. of Jesus' ministry

  374. in Galilee

  375. because of his ministry

  376. of healing individuals

  377. and casting out demons.

  378. Well, the Bible says

  379. a little about

  380. those who were

  381. who were under bondage

  382. to demons.

  383. We get a taste

  384. of what they experienced.

  385. there was a sense

  386. of infliction.

  387. There was

  388. loneliness

  389. as they were

  390. driven outside

  391. of the community.

  392. They were

  393. set apart

  394. and isolated

  395. from everyone

  396. they had

  397. previously loved.

  398. There's only

  399. a couple of accounts

  400. in the scripture

  401. of devoted family members

  402. that stayed true

  403. to those

  404. who were demon-possessed.

  405. But the rest

  406. of the occurrences

  407. they were driven

  408. from society

  409. because of their

  410. inability

  411. to control themselves.

  412. They were a menace

  413. to community.

  414. They would have been

  415. in perpetual

  416. agony

  417. always

  418. friendless.

  419. There was

  420. a sense

  421. of restlessness

  422. in their

  423. heart and life

  424. the inability

  425. to escape

  426. the bondage

  427. that they were in.

  428. They were joyless

  429. because everything

  430. for them

  431. had become

  432. darkness.

  433. And they were

  434. hopeless

  435. because every

  436. earthly remedy

  437. was insufficient

  438. and inadequate

  439. to deal

  440. with their

  441. deepest condition.

  442. Christ had

  443. delivered her

  444. from all

  445. of that

  446. and Luke

  447. and Mark

  448. give us

  449. some understanding

  450. of the fact

  451. that Jesus

  452. had done this

  453. to demonstrate

  454. that he has

  455. power.

  456. power

  457. to conquer

  458. power

  459. to deliver.

  460. One of the

  461. really interesting

  462. facts

  463. as you

  464. look at

  465. Jesus'

  466. healing

  467. of those

  468. who were

  469. demon-possessed

  470. through the

  471. gospel narrative

  472. you would find

  473. that there

  474. is never

  475. an instance

  476. in which

  477. demon-possessed

  478. individuals

  479. came to

  480. Jesus

  481. to be delivered.

  482. They were

  483. either

  484. brought to

  485. Jesus

  486. or he

  487. went to

  488. them

  489. and on

  490. certain

  491. occasions

  492. Jesus

  493. showed up

  494. and the

  495. demons

  496. were

  497. actually

  498. surprised

  499. and horrified

  500. at his

  501. presence.

  502. But the

  503. evil spirits

  504. never voluntarily

  505. entered the

  506. presence of

  507. Christ.

  508. They always

  509. distanced

  510. themselves from

  511. him and his

  512. authority and

  513. from the truth.

  514. Any of the

  515. comfort that

  516. Jesus might have

  517. provided these

  518. individuals,

  519. demons made

  520. sure that they

  521. never had

  522. contact to

  523. him or

  524. anyone who

  525. would minister

  526. comfort to

  527. them.

  528. But we

  529. also find in

  530. the scripture

  531. that their

  532. deliverance,

  533. when Jesus

  534. delivered them

  535. from demons,

  536. it was always

  537. instantaneous and

  538. it was always

  539. complete.

  540. Such was

  541. Mary's plight

  542. and such

  543. was Mary's

  544. deliverance.

  545. No wonder

  546. why she

  547. was gripped

  548. with grief

  549. in this

  550. moment.

  551. And there's

  552. no wonder

  553. why Mary's

  554. bondage led

  555. her to

  556. devotion.

  557. That's what

  558. we'll find

  559. next, her

  560. devotion to

  561. Christ.

  562. We find

  563. examples of

  564. her devotion

  565. in a number

  566. of instances,

  567. but here in

  568. Luke chapter

    Luke 8 chapter mention

  569. 8, as you're

  570. already there,

  571. look down now

  572. to verse 3.

  573. What did

  574. these women

  575. do?

  576. It says

  577. that many

  578. others who

  579. provided for

  580. them out of

  581. their own

  582. means.

  583. Now, Mary

  584. Magdalene was

  585. probably a

  586. widow or

  587. she was a

  588. single lady.

  589. There's no

  590. indication from

  591. the scripture

  592. that she was

  593. young.

  594. She was likely

  595. old, maybe

  596. had inherited

  597. some property.

  598. Likely her

  599. parents were

  600. no longer

  601. around so she

  602. didn't have

  603. that obligation

  604. to them and

  605. could travel

  606. along with

  607. Jesus.

  608. We find that

  609. here in Luke

    Luke 8 chapter mention

  610. chapter 8

  611. at the end

  612. of verse 1.

  613. it says,

  614. and the

  615. twelve were

  616. with him

  617. and also

  618. some women.

  619. So, the

  620. disciples were

  621. spending time

  622. with Jesus

  623. and right

  624. along with

  625. them was

  626. this company

  627. of women

  628. who were

  629. following close

  630. by Jesus

  631. and financing

  632. his ministry.

  633. Supporting him

  634. in the work,

  635. making sure

  636. that all their

  637. needs were

  638. met.

  639. Making sure

  640. that Jesus

  641. could do

  642. what he had

  643. come to do

  644. and that was

  645. to proclaim

  646. the kingdom

  647. and not

  648. have to

  649. worry about

  650. the earthly

  651. things like

  652. food and

  653. lodging and

  654. those kinds

  655. of things.

  656. Mary and

  657. all of these

  658. other ladies

  659. were helping

  660. to finance

  661. Jesus'

  662. ministry.

  663. They were

  664. also devoted

  665. to him

  666. in coming

  667. to Jerusalem

  668. during this

  669. Passover week.

  670. Turn with

  671. me to

  672. Matthew

    Matthew 27 chapter mention

  673. chapter 27.

  674. We can

  675. see that

  676. in that

  677. account.

  678. Matthew

    Matthew 27 chapter mention

  679. chapter 27

  680. beginning

  681. in verse

  682. 55.

  683. It says,

  684. this is the

  685. scene of the

  686. cross.

  687. It says,

  688. there were

  689. also many

  690. women there

  691. looking on

  692. from a

  693. distance who

  694. had followed

  695. Jesus from

  696. Galilee,

  697. ministering

  698. to him,

  699. among whom

  700. were Mary

  701. Magdalene

  702. and Mary

  703. the mother

  704. of James

  705. and Joseph

  706. and the

  707. mother of

  708. the sons

  709. of Zebedee.

  710. Here they

  711. were coming

  712. with the

  713. company of

  714. Jesus and

  715. all of his

  716. followers,

  717. parading from

  718. Galilee,

  719. now coming

  720. to Jerusalem,

  721. ministering to

  722. him through

  723. the week and

  724. his disciples.

  725. They were

  726. devoted followers

  727. of Christ.

  728. And we see

  729. their devotion

  730. to the very

  731. end.

  732. They were

  733. among those

  734. who were at

  735. the cross.

  736. Those Mary

  737. Magdalene,

  738. we find that

  739. she was at

  740. least one of

  741. the individuals

  742. who was there

  743. with Mary,

  744. the mother of

  745. Jesus,

  746. standing at

  747. the foot of

  748. the cross.

  749. But as time

  750. wore on and

  751. as the

  752. difficulties and

  753. cruelty and

  754. abuse to

  755. Christ continued,

  756. we find that

  757. they're moving

  758. now to the

  759. back,

  760. maybe elbowed

  761. to the back

  762. and looking on

  763. from a distance.

  764. The gruesome

  765. scene,

  766. the brutality

  767. that Jesus was

  768. experiencing

  769. caused them to

  770. shrink back.

  771. But they're

  772. still there

  773. watching

  774. because they

  775. could not

  776. bear to

  777. leave.

  778. They remained

  779. until the

  780. bitter end,

  781. watching the

  782. full story of

  783. Jesus play out

  784. before their

  785. eyes.

  786. And once

  787. Jesus died,

  788. they were of

  789. the few

  790. disciples,

  791. the few

  792. followers of

  793. Christ who

  794. actually followed

  795. secretly Joseph

  796. of Arimathea

  797. and Nicodemus

  798. as they escorted

  799. the body of

  800. Jesus to this

  801. tomb.

  802. Had it not

  803. been for

  804. Mary, the

  805. disciples likely

  806. would not have

  807. known where

  808. Jesus was

  809. buried.

  810. There she is,

  811. her devotion

  812. to the end,

  813. recognizing and

  814. loving her

  815. Savior.

  816. She was a

  817. woman of

  818. devotion.

  819. One of the

  820. great truths we

  821. see from Mary's

  822. life is that

  823. there are no

  824. barriers to

  825. the power of

  826. God's ability

  827. to work in

  828. your life.

  829. Whatever baggage

  830. you bring to

  831. this service

  832. today, whatever

  833. your history,

  834. whatever your

  835. sins, whatever

  836. your failures,

  837. whatever they

  838. are, they

  839. cannot outdo

  840. Mary.

  841. Hallelujah!

  842. You have

  843. never been

  844. demonized, not

  845. just by one,

  846. but by seven

  847. demons.

  848. repentance.

  849. And if there

  850. was hope for

  851. Mary through

  852. the power of

  853. Christ, there

  854. is hope for

  855. you today.

  856. What a

  857. wonderful truth

  858. that we find

  859. from her life.

  860. And just as

  861. the deliverance

  862. of Mary's

  863. bondage led

  864. to devotion

  865. for her, it

  866. is the kind

  867. of devotion

  868. that should

  869. also be true

  870. in your own

  871. life.

  872. If you've

  873. experienced the

  874. deliverance of

  875. Christ,

  876. Christ, reminded

  877. of the verse

  878. in Romans

    Romans 5:20

  879. chapter 5,

  880. verse 20,

  881. where sin

  882. abounded, grace

  883. abounded all

  884. the more.

  885. Grace desires

  886. to show up

  887. in your life

  888. regardless of

  889. where you've

  890. been.

  891. But, in a

  892. way, Mary

  893. is in bondage

  894. again.

  895. Having been

  896. bound by demons

  897. before, now we

  898. find that there's

  899. a sense of

  900. bondage that

  901. trickles into

  902. blindness.

  903. We find that

  904. here in verses

  905. 12 to 15.

  906. Mary's current

  907. blindness, or

  908. Mary's immediate

  909. blindness might be

  910. another way to

  911. put it.

  912. That's point

  913. number two,

  914. Joey, if you

  915. can help me

  916. with that.

  917. Mary's current

  918. blindness.

  919. Let me read

  920. verses 12 to

  921. 15.

  922. We're back in

  923. John chapter

    John 20 chapter mention

  924. 20.

  925. Here's what it

  926. says, beginning

  927. in verse 12.

  928. And she saw

  929. two angels in

  930. white, sitting

  931. where the body

  932. of Jesus had

  933. lain, one at

  934. the head and

  935. one at the

  936. feet.

  937. They said to

  938. her, woman,

  939. why are you

  940. weeping?

  941. She said to

  942. them, they have

  943. taken away my

  944. Lord, and I do

  945. not know where

  946. they have laid

  947. him.

  948. Having said

  949. this, she

  950. turned around

  951. and saw Jesus

  952. standing, but

  953. she did not

  954. know that it

  955. was Jesus.

  956. Jesus said

  957. to her, woman,

  958. why are you

  959. weeping?

  960. Whom are you

  961. seeking?

  962. Supposing him

  963. to be the

  964. gardener, she

  965. said to him,

  966. sir, if you

  967. have carried

  968. him away, tell

  969. me where you

  970. have laid

  971. him, and I

  972. will take

  973. him away.

  974. Mary has an

  975. encounter with

  976. two individuals,

  977. an encounter

  978. first with

  979. angels that

  980. we'll see

  981. here in a

  982. moment, and

  983. then an

  984. encounter with

  985. Christ.

  986. Neither

  987. encounter, at

  988. least in the

  989. present condition,

  990. was able to

  991. do for Mary

  992. what she

  993. needed.

  994. Even an

  995. announcement

  996. from an

  997. angel was

  998. unable to

  999. lead her to

  1000. faith.

  1001. So if you

  1002. are here this

  1003. morning and

  1004. you say, if

  1005. I only had

  1006. an angel show

  1007. up in my

  1008. life, then

  1009. everything would

  1010. be different.

  1011. Mary would

  1012. give testimony

  1013. to you today

  1014. that an

  1015. angel will

  1016. not cut

  1017. it.

  1018. And as

  1019. a matter

  1020. of fact,

  1021. without Jesus'

  1022. intervention in

  1023. Mary's life,

  1024. even Jesus

  1025. himself would

  1026. not cut it.

  1027. Mary needed

  1028. Jesus to

  1029. open her

  1030. eyes to

  1031. faith.

  1032. We'll see

  1033. that in a

  1034. second.

  1035. But let me

  1036. look for a

  1037. moment here,

  1038. her encounter

  1039. with angels.

  1040. She's overcome

  1041. by grief, and

  1042. she looks into

  1043. the tomb.

  1044. she knew

  1045. that Jesus

  1046. had been

  1047. there before.

  1048. Like many

  1049. of us who

  1050. have lost a

  1051. loved one, and

  1052. we can remember

  1053. where they

  1054. sat, and

  1055. often times

  1056. when we go

  1057. to visit

  1058. their home,

  1059. we'll sit

  1060. in the place

  1061. where they

  1062. sat, we'll

  1063. look out the

  1064. window that

  1065. they looked

  1066. out of, we'll

  1067. read their

  1068. Bible and

  1069. see their

  1070. notes, and

  1071. anything that

  1072. we can do

  1073. to have that

  1074. sense of

  1075. intimacy and

  1076. closeness.

  1077. I think that

  1078. maybe a little

  1079. bit of what

  1080. Mary is doing

  1081. here.

  1082. She wants

  1083. to be near

  1084. her Lord, and

  1085. this is the

  1086. nearest she

  1087. can be.

  1088. So she

  1089. goes to the

  1090. place where

  1091. Jesus had

  1092. been, and

  1093. she looks in

  1094. and she sees

  1095. the angels

  1096. who are

  1097. sitting there,

  1098. and they

  1099. ask her the

  1100. question, why

  1101. are you

  1102. weeping?

  1103. Now, I

  1104. don't know if

  1105. you are as

  1106. amazed that I

  1107. am at what

  1108. comes next.

  1109. there is

  1110. something that

  1111. is missing.

  1112. Like, I

  1113. would expect

  1114. Mary looks

  1115. in and

  1116. startled by

  1117. the angels

  1118. all of a

  1119. sudden in

  1120. this tomb,

  1121. right?

  1122. Or she

  1123. looks in and

  1124. she's like

  1125. perplexed or

  1126. startled or

  1127. in amazement

  1128. or wonder.

  1129. But you

  1130. don't read

  1131. those words

  1132. there.

  1133. And I

  1134. don't think

  1135. you read

  1136. those words

  1137. there because

  1138. Mary has

  1139. already had an

  1140. encounter with

  1141. angels earlier

  1142. in the day.

  1143. We find that

  1144. from Matthew

  1145. and Mark

  1146. and Luke.

  1147. She already

  1148. saw the

  1149. angels and

  1150. they already

  1151. spoke to

  1152. her.

  1153. That's what

  1154. got them all

  1155. lit up so

  1156. they would

  1157. run back

  1158. to the

  1159. disciples to

  1160. tell them

  1161. what had

  1162. just happened.

  1163. But for

  1164. some reason,

  1165. Mary is

  1166. going through

  1167. these mountain

  1168. peak experiences

  1169. in valleys

  1170. of faith

  1171. and no

  1172. faith and

  1173. hope and

  1174. confusion are

  1175. playing ping

  1176. pong with

  1177. her emotions

  1178. at this

  1179. point.

  1180. And when

  1181. you read

  1182. the account

  1183. you're like

  1184. how can

  1185. this happen?

  1186. How is

  1187. this possible?

  1188. She couldn't

  1189. possibly have

  1190. seen the

  1191. angels before

  1192. because it

  1193. was clear she

  1194. was a person

  1195. who believed

  1196. before.

  1197. But now all

  1198. of a sudden

  1199. she's like

  1200. oblivious.

  1201. but if

  1202. we're honest

  1203. with ourselves

  1204. we understand,

  1205. right?

  1206. Like there

  1207. are moments

  1208. in your life

  1209. where you

  1210. are on the

  1211. mountaintop

  1212. and you

  1213. believe in

  1214. God and

  1215. nothing can

  1216. shake your

  1217. faith and

  1218. it seems

  1219. like almost

  1220. just like a

  1221. week or two

  1222. later there

  1223. is the deep

  1224. dark valleys

  1225. and crisis

  1226. of faith and

  1227. you wonder

  1228. where God

  1229. is.

  1230. You ever

  1231. been there?

  1232. That's what's

  1233. happening to

  1234. Mary.

  1235. She looks

  1236. into this

  1237. tomb and

  1238. she's staring

  1239. at a gift

  1240. of God's

  1241. grace and

  1242. she misses

  1243. it.

  1244. The grace

  1245. gift of

  1246. these angels

  1247. who are

  1248. sitting there.

  1249. How often

  1250. do we miss

  1251. the gifts

  1252. of grace

  1253. in moments

  1254. of crisis

  1255. because we

  1256. are blinded

  1257. by grief.

  1258. We're

  1259. blinded by

  1260. our own

  1261. condition,

  1262. by our

  1263. own

  1264. circumstances

  1265. and we

  1266. miss the

  1267. fact that

  1268. God has

  1269. us there

  1270. so that we

  1271. can encounter

  1272. him.

  1273. That's why

  1274. God introduces

  1275. difficulties in

  1276. your life and

  1277. hardship is so

  1278. that you can

  1279. meet him

  1280. there.

  1281. But we

  1282. miss it

  1283. because we

  1284. allow the

  1285. adversity of

  1286. our life to

  1287. just drown

  1288. out any

  1289. of the

  1290. grace that

  1291. God has

  1292. available to

  1293. us in

  1294. those moments.

  1295. And that's

  1296. the case for

  1297. Mary.

  1298. She sees

  1299. the angels

  1300. likely in

  1301. blazing

  1302. white.

  1303. But she

  1304. doesn't

  1305. really see

  1306. them.

  1307. She doesn't

  1308. really get

  1309. it.

  1310. It's not

  1311. going to

  1312. help her

  1313. blindness at

  1314. this point,

  1315. her blindness

  1316. of faith.

  1317. she has an

  1318. encounter with

  1319. Christ which

  1320. should have

  1321. sealed the

  1322. deal.

  1323. Notice

  1324. again this

  1325. account,

  1326. Jesus, she

  1327. turns around,

  1328. she's face

  1329. to face with

  1330. Jesus.

  1331. He speaks

  1332. to her, he

  1333. asks her the

  1334. same question,

  1335. woman, why

  1336. are you

  1337. weeping?

  1338. Jesus, she

  1339. sees him,

  1340. she speaks

  1341. to him,

  1342. and she

  1343. misses him

  1344. in this

  1345. moment.

  1346. Think of

  1347. this.

  1348. Her

  1349. personal

  1350. experience of

  1351. deliverance,

  1352. years of

  1353. observing the

  1354. power of

  1355. God, working

  1356. through the

  1357. handiwork of

  1358. Christ.

  1359. She heard his

  1360. words and

  1361. watched his

  1362. life and

  1363. through this

  1364. week saw the

  1365. unfolding

  1366. promises of

  1367. Christ show

  1368. up in his

  1369. crucifixion, in

  1370. being handed

  1371. over to the

  1372. Jews and

  1373. Gentiles, and

  1374. in now this

  1375. empty tomb, and

  1376. she misses it.

  1377. She hears the

  1378. announcement of

  1379. the angels, she

  1380. even speaks with

  1381. Jesus, and she

  1382. misses faith.

  1383. in this moment.

  1384. What will it

  1385. take for

  1386. Mary?

  1387. Well, it'll

  1388. take for

  1389. her the same

  1390. thing it will

  1391. take for you.

  1392. The same

  1393. thing that

  1394. it will

  1395. take for

  1396. every one

  1397. of us.

  1398. Jesus must

  1399. open our

  1400. eyes.

  1401. You may

  1402. not just

  1403. meet Jesus,

  1404. you have to

  1405. encounter him.

  1406. You have to

  1407. see him for

  1408. who he is.

  1409. Jesus wants

  1410. that for you

  1411. today.

  1412. And now

  1413. two times we

  1414. see the

  1415. compassion of

  1416. heaven.

  1417. The compassion

  1418. of heaven on

  1419. those who

  1420. mourn.

  1421. And the

  1422. words of

  1423. Christ should

  1424. echo in our

  1425. minds.

  1426. Blessed are

  1427. those who

  1428. mourn, for

  1429. they shall be

  1430. comforted.

  1431. Blessed are

  1432. the pure in

  1433. heart, for

  1434. they shall

  1435. see God.

  1436. Mary's

  1437. pure heart

  1438. has led her

  1439. to the

  1440. tomb.

  1441. Mary is a

  1442. seeker.

  1443. She's gone

  1444. to the

  1445. tomb and

  1446. she sees

  1447. God.

  1448. He shows

  1449. up for

  1450. her.

  1451. There is

  1452. no direct

  1453. rebuke.

  1454. There is

  1455. no condescending

  1456. glare.

  1457. There is

  1458. no disapproval.

  1459. There is

  1460. only

  1461. compassion.

  1462. We do

  1463. not have a

  1464. high priest

  1465. who cannot

  1466. be touched

  1467. by the

  1468. feelings of

  1469. our

  1470. infirmities.

  1471. He can

  1472. sympathize.

  1473. Can you

  1474. understand the

  1475. highs and

  1476. lows of

  1477. faith?

  1478. Have you

  1479. been there?

  1480. Are you

  1481. there today?

  1482. those

  1483. mountaintops

  1484. and valleys

  1485. of life?

  1486. You feel

  1487. frazzled?

  1488. You feel

  1489. raw?

  1490. You feel

  1491. discouraged and

  1492. in despair

  1493. today?

  1494. I think of

  1495. the story of

  1496. Job's life.

  1497. He did so

  1498. well at the

  1499. beginning.

  1500. The Lord

  1501. gives.

  1502. The Lord

  1503. takes away.

  1504. Blessed be the

  1505. name of the

  1506. Lord.

  1507. And then

  1508. just a few

  1509. chapters later,

  1510. Job says,

  1511. I hate

  1512. my life.

  1513. Why did

  1514. you bring

  1515. me out of

  1516. the womb?

  1517. Would that

  1518. I had died

  1519. before any

  1520. eye had

  1521. seen me

  1522. and as

  1523. though I

  1524. had not

  1525. been carried

  1526. from the

  1527. womb to

  1528. the grave.

  1529. That would

  1530. have been

  1531. better,

  1532. says Job.

  1533. But there

  1534. is hope.

  1535. Angel

  1536. announcements

  1537. are not

  1538. going to

  1539. save you.

  1540. It's only

  1541. what we

  1542. see next

  1543. in this

  1544. account

  1545. that will

  1546. bring

  1547. deliverance

  1548. to your

  1549. life.

  1550. It will

  1551. bring hope

  1552. to you.

  1553. Mary's

  1554. continuing

  1555. hope.

  1556. That's

  1557. what we

  1558. find next.

  1559. Mary's

  1560. continuing

  1561. hope.

  1562. I want

  1563. us to

  1564. see and

  1565. look

  1566. briefly

  1567. just in

  1568. the next

  1569. few

  1570. moments

  1571. her

  1572. awakening

  1573. and her

  1574. assignment.

  1575. Her

  1576. awakening

  1577. and her

  1578. assignment.

  1579. Notice

  1580. here,

  1581. beginning

  1582. in verse

  1583. 16.

  1584. Jesus

  1585. said to

  1586. her,

  1587. Mary,

  1588. she

  1589. turned

  1590. and said

  1591. to him

  1592. in

  1593. Aramaic,

  1594. Rabboni,

  1595. which means

  1596. teacher.

  1597. What was

  1598. it about

  1599. that

  1600. word?

  1601. It was

  1602. her name.

  1603. Spoken

  1604. in the

  1605. way that

  1606. she had

  1607. always

  1608. remembered

  1609. Jesus

  1610. speaking

  1611. her name.

  1612. There

  1613. was

  1614. familiarity

  1615. in the

  1616. name.

  1617. it

  1618. harkens

  1619. back

  1620. to

  1621. what

  1622. Jesus

  1623. had

  1624. told

  1625. the

  1626. scribes

  1627. in

  1628. John

    John 10 chapter mention

  1629. chapter

  1630. 10.

  1631. He

  1632. says,

  1633. he who

  1634. enters

  1635. by the

  1636. door

  1637. is a

  1638. shepherd

  1639. of the

  1640. sheep.

  1641. To

  1642. him

  1643. the

  1644. gatekeeper

  1645. opens.

  1646. The

  1647. sheep

  1648. hear

  1649. his

  1650. voice

  1651. and

  1652. he

  1653. calls

  1654. his

  1655. own

  1656. sheep

  1657. by

  1658. name

  1659. and

  1660. leads

  1661. them

  1662. out.

  1663. He

  1664. goes

  1665. before

  1666. them

  1667. and

  1668. the

  1669. sheep

  1670. follow

  1671. him

  1672. for

  1673. they

  1674. know

  1675. his

  1676. voice.

  1677. I

  1678. am

  1679. the

  1680. good

  1681. shepherd.

  1682. I

  1683. know

  1684. my

  1685. own

  1686. and

  1687. my

  1688. own

  1689. know

  1690. me.

  1691. Jesus

  1692. knew

  1693. her

  1694. name

  1695. and

  1696. Mary

  1697. in a

  1698. flash

  1699. of

  1700. recollection

  1701. recalls

  1702. Jesus

  1703. her

  1704. savior.

  1705. There

  1706. he

  1707. is.

  1708. Life

  1709. in

  1710. clarity

  1711. erases

  1712. the

  1713. doubt

  1714. and

  1715. blindness

  1716. of

  1717. grief

  1718. of

  1719. her

  1720. life.

  1721. There

  1722. is

  1723. an

  1724. awakening

  1725. in

  1726. her

  1727. heart.

  1728. Her

  1729. eyes

  1730. are

  1731. open

  1732. now

  1733. to

  1734. faith.

  1735. As

  1736. Jesus

  1737. would

  1738. do

  1739. for

  1740. his

  1741. disciples

  1742. on

  1743. the

  1744. road

  1745. to

  1746. Emmaus.

  1747. As

  1748. Jesus

  1749. would

  1750. do

  1751. for

  1752. his

  1753. disciples

  1754. in

  1755. the

  1756. upper

  1757. room.

  1758. Jesus

  1759. does

  1760. for

  1761. Mary.

  1762. And

  1763. with

  1764. the

  1765. word

  1766. blindness

  1767. turns

  1768. to

  1769. sight.

  1770. It's

  1771. amazing

  1772. to

  1773. consider

  1774. Mary

  1775. is

  1776. the

  1777. first

  1778. to

  1779. see

  1780. the

  1781. resurrected

  1782. savior.

  1783. That's

  1784. significant.

  1785. And it

  1786. was

  1787. significant

  1788. that

  1789. Jesus

  1790. was

  1791. only

  1792. clear

  1793. about

  1794. his

  1795. the

  1796. fact

  1797. that

  1798. he

  1799. was

  1800. Yahweh

  1801. to

  1802. a

  1803. woman

  1804. in

  1805. Samaria

  1806. to

  1807. reinforce

  1808. that

  1809. whatever

  1810. stigma

  1811. the

  1812. culture

  1813. places

  1814. on

  1815. you

  1816. Christ

  1817. wants

  1818. to

  1819. raise

  1820. you

  1821. up.

  1822. he'll

  1823. give

  1824. you

  1825. significance

  1826. through

  1827. himself.

  1828. He

  1829. reaffirms

  1830. himself

  1831. to

  1832. women

  1833. who

  1834. are

  1835. the

  1836. lowest

  1837. parts

  1838. of

  1839. that

  1840. society.

  1841. He

  1842. shows

  1843. up

  1844. to

  1845. them.

  1846. He

  1847. affirms

  1848. them.

  1849. He

  1850. speaks

  1851. to

  1852. them.

  1853. Some

  1854. of

  1855. the

  1856. most

  1857. significant

  1858. statements

  1859. in all

  1860. of

  1861. scripture

  1862. Jesus

  1863. gives

  1864. are

  1865. given

  1866. to

  1867. women.

  1868. Astounding

  1869. how

  1870. Christ

  1871. deliberately

  1872. affirms

  1873. the

  1874. significance

  1875. of

  1876. people.

  1877. And

  1878. when

  1879. she

  1880. sees

  1881. him

  1882. she

  1883. worships.

  1884. We

  1885. find

  1886. that

  1887. in

  1888. the

  1889. account

  1890. of

  1891. Matthew.

  1892. It

  1893. says

  1894. she

  1895. falls

  1896. at

  1897. his

  1898. feet.

  1899. Actually

  1900. it

  1901. says

  1902. they

  1903. fall

  1904. at

  1905. his

  1906. feet

  1907. meaning

  1908. that

  1909. there

  1910. were

  1911. other

  1912. women

  1913. who

  1914. were

  1915. part

  1916. of

  1917. this.

  1918. That

  1919. Mary

  1920. was

  1921. probably

  1922. not

  1923. alone

  1924. in

  1925. this

  1926. encounter

  1927. but

  1928. with

  1929. the

  1930. other

  1931. women

  1932. fall

  1933. at

  1934. Jesus'

  1935. feet

  1936. and

  1937. she

  1938. worships

  1939. and

  1940. she's

  1941. clinging

  1942. to

  1943. him

  1944. I'm

  1945. not

  1946. going

  1947. to

  1948. let

  1949. you

  1950. go

  1951. you're

  1952. not

  1953. going

  1954. to

  1955. leave

  1956. me

  1957. again.

  1958. So

  1959. Jesus

  1960. now

  1961. has to

  1962. give her

  1963. an

  1964. assignment.

  1965. Do

  1966. not

  1967. cling

  1968. to

  1969. me

  1970. for

  1971. I

  1972. have

  1973. not

  1974. yet

  1975. ascended

  1976. to

  1977. the

  1978. father

  1979. but

  1980. go

  1981. to

  1982. my

  1983. brothers

  1984. and

  1985. say

  1986. to

  1987. them

  1988. I

  1989. am

  1990. ascending

  1991. to

  1992. my

  1993. father

  1994. and

  1995. your

  1996. father

  1997. to

  1998. my

  1999. God

  2000. and

  2001. your

  2002. God.

  2003. Now

  2004. that

  2005. seems

  2006. but

  2007. Jesus

  2008. is

  2009. trying

  2010. to

  2011. help

  2012. Mary

  2013. understand

  2014. that

  2015. the

  2016. immediate

  2017. physical

  2018. temporary

  2019. form

  2020. of

  2021. Christ

  2022. is

  2023. not

  2024. what

  2025. she

  2026. should

  2027. be

  2028. giving

  2029. hope

  2030. to

  2031. but

  2032. the

  2033. eternal

  2034. future

  2035. enduring

  2036. presence

  2037. of

  2038. Christ

  2039. in

  2040. heaven.

  2041. I'm

  2042. going

  2043. to

  2044. ascend

  2045. and

  2046. you're

  2047. going

  2048. to

  2049. be

  2050. there

  2051. too

  2052. Mary

  2053. put

  2054. your

  2055. hope

  2056. in

  2057. that

  2058. not

  2059. in

  2060. my

  2061. personal

  2062. physical

  2063. presence

  2064. with

  2065. you

  2066. now.

  2067. Set

  2068. your

  2069. hope

  2070. on

  2071. the

  2072. future.

  2073. my

  2074. resurrection

  2075. has

  2076. changed

  2077. everything

  2078. for

  2079. you.

  2080. And

  2081. tell

  2082. my

  2083. brothers

  2084. the

  2085. news.

  2086. They're

  2087. no longer

  2088. slaves.

  2089. They're

  2090. no longer

  2091. friends.

  2092. They're

  2093. brothers.

  2094. They're

  2095. part of

  2096. the

  2097. family

  2098. because

  2099. of what

  2100. Christ

  2101. accomplished

  2102. on the

  2103. cross

  2104. for

  2105. them.

  2106. To

  2107. my

  2108. God

  2109. and

  2110. your

  2111. God.

  2112. To

  2113. my

  2114. father

  2115. and

  2116. your

  2117. father.

  2118. Now

  2119. there's

  2120. intimacy.

  2121. The

  2122. veil

  2123. has

  2124. been

  2125. torn.

  2126. The

  2127. entrance

  2128. into

  2129. the

  2130. holy

  2131. of

  2132. holies

  2133. has

  2134. been

  2135. open

  2136. for

  2137. all

  2138. who

  2139. come

  2140. in

  2141. faith

  2142. to

  2143. him.

  2144. They

  2145. can

  2146. now

  2147. have

  2148. a

  2149. personal

  2150. direct

  2151. relationship

  2152. with

  2153. Christ

  2154. and

  2155. with

  2156. God

  2157. the

  2158. father

  2159. through

  2160. salvation.

  2161. And

  2162. Mary

  2163. could be

  2164. the

  2165. conduit

  2166. of

  2167. that

  2168. message.

  2169. Interesting.

  2170. Jesus

  2171. was going

  2172. to

  2173. show up

  2174. to

  2175. these

  2176. disciples

  2177. in

  2178. just

  2179. a

  2180. few

  2181. hours

  2182. from

  2183. this

  2184. occasion

  2185. and

  2186. yet

  2187. he

  2188. still

  2189. sends

  2190. Mary

  2191. on

  2192. this

  2193. mission

  2194. to

  2195. share

  2196. the

  2197. gospel.

  2198. Those

  2199. who

  2200. follow

  2201. Christ

  2202. will

  2203. do

  2204. what

  2205. Jesus

  2206. did.

  2207. Those

  2208. who

  2209. follow

  2210. Christ

  2211. will

  2212. say

  2213. what

  2214. Jesus

  2215. says.

  2216. They

  2217. will

  2218. give

  2219. testimony

  2220. to

  2221. the

  2222. works

  2223. of

  2224. God

  2225. in

  2226. their

  2227. life.

  2228. And

  2229. they

  2230. will

  2231. have

  2232. enduring

  2233. devotion

  2234. that

  2235. will

  2236. continue

  2237. on.

  2238. Not

  2239. just

  2240. for

  2241. the

  2242. moment

  2243. but

  2244. enduring

  2245. through

  2246. life.

  2247. We

  2248. see

  2249. Mary

  2250. in

  2251. Acts

    Acts 1 chapter mention

  2252. chapter

  2253. 1

  2254. with

  2255. the

  2256. company

  2257. of

  2258. believers

  2259. praying

  2260. in the

  2261. upper

  2262. room.

  2263. It

  2264. says

  2265. all

  2266. these

  2267. with

  2268. one

  2269. accord

  2270. were

  2271. devoting

  2272. themselves

  2273. to

  2274. prayer

  2275. together

  2276. with

  2277. the

  2278. women

  2279. and

  2280. that

  2281. women

  2282. is

  2283. this

  2284. company

  2285. that

  2286. we

  2287. see

  2288. here

  2289. at

  2290. the

  2291. cross.

  2292. There

  2293. they

  2294. are.

  2295. They're

  2296. bearing

  2297. the

  2298. message.

  2299. But

  2300. let's

  2301. not

  2302. assume

  2303. that

  2304. just

  2305. because

  2306. you

  2307. hear

  2308. the

  2309. word

  2310. it's

  2311. going

  2312. to

  2313. lead

  2314. you

  2315. to

  2316. faith.

  2317. The

  2318. scribes

  2319. and

  2320. the

  2321. Pharisees

  2322. heard

  2323. the

  2324. word.

  2325. As a

  2326. matter

  2327. of

  2328. fact

  2329. the

  2330. scribes

  2331. and

  2332. the

  2333. Pharisees

  2334. probably

  2335. knew

  2336. clearer

  2337. and

  2338. better

  2339. than

  2340. the

  2341. disciples

  2342. what

  2343. Jesus

  2344. had

  2345. said

  2346. he

  2347. would

  2348. do.

  2349. And

  2350. so

  2351. they

  2352. could

  2353. put

  2354. that

  2355. down

  2356. They

  2357. said

  2358. Pilate

  2359. put a

  2360. guard

  2361. around

  2362. the

  2363. tomb

  2364. so

  2365. no

  2366. one

  2367. robs

  2368. his

  2369. grave

  2370. and

  2371. so

  2372. Pilate

  2373. does

  2374. that

  2375. and

  2376. then

  2377. when

  2378. they

  2379. hear

  2380. that

  2381. Jesus

  2382. is

  2383. no

  2384. longer

  2385. there

  2386. they

  2387. buy

  2388. off

  2389. the

  2390. guards

  2391. and

  2392. say

  2393. spread

  2394. the

  2395. news

  2396. that

  2397. Jesus

  2398. body

  2399. has

  2400. been

  2401. stolen

  2402. don't

  2403. assume

  2404. that

  2405. just

  2406. because

  2407. you

  2408. have

  2409. access

  2410. to

  2411. the

  2412. word

  2413. just

  2414. because

  2415. you've

  2416. heard

  2417. the

  2418. message

  2419. that

  2420. you

  2421. are

  2422. a

  2423. person

  2424. of

  2425. faith

  2426. you're

  2427. a

  2428. person

  2429. of

  2430. faith

  2431. if

  2432. you're

  2433. a

  2434. person

  2435. who

  2436. has

  2437. surrendered

  2438. your

  2439. life

  2440. to

  2441. Christ

  2442. and

  2443. seeks

  2444. to

  2445. follow

  2446. him

  2447. in

  2448. devotion

  2449. is that

  2450. true

  2451. of your

  2452. life

  2453. today

  2454. if

  2455. it

  2456. is

  2457. there

  2458. is

  2459. hope

  2460. for

  2461. you

  2462. today

  2463. hope

  2464. that

  2465. overcomes

  2466. any

  2467. of the

  2468. baggage

  2469. that

  2470. you

  2471. might

  2472. bring

  2473. to

  2474. the

  2475. table

  2476. there

  2477. is

  2478. hope

  2479. for

  2480. you

  2481. in

  2482. Christ

  2483. through

  2484. faith

  2485. let's

  2486. pray

  2487. Lord

  2488. we

  2489. praise

  2490. you

  2491. this

  2492. morning

  2493. that

  2494. there

  2495. is

  2496. hope

  2497. because

  2498. of

  2499. the

  2500. empty

  2501. tomb

  2502. there

  2503. is

  2504. hope

  2505. because

  2506. of

  2507. Christ

  2508. conquering

  2509. death

  2510. and

  2511. sin

  2512. rising

  2513. from

  2514. the

  2515. dead

  2516. giving

  2517. us

  2518. hope

  2519. of

  2520. forgiveness

  2521. and

  2522. fellowship

  2523. with

  2524. the

  2525. father

  2526. in

  2527. a

  2528. future

  2529. in

  2530. heaven

  2531. in

  2532. life

  2533. with

  2534. you

  2535. today

  2536. a

  2537. new

  2538. assignment

  2539. for

  2540. us

  2541. as

  2542. we

  2543. seek

  2544. to

  2545. proclaim

  2546. the

  2547. glories

  2548. of

  2549. Christ

  2550. Lord

  2551. may

  2552. we

  2553. be

  2554. faithful

  2555. help

  2556. us

  2557. even

  2558. in

  2559. this

  2560. moment

  2561. as

  2562. we

  2563. think

  2564. in

  2565. these

  2566. moments

  2567. of

  2568. the

  2569. things

  2570. that

  2571. bombard

  2572. us

  2573. from

  2574. day

  2575. to

  2576. day

  2577. distract

  2578. us

  2579. from

  2580. the

  2581. main

  2582. mission

  2583. seek

  2584. to

  2585. distract

  2586. us

  2587. from

  2588. the

  2589. objectives

  2590. that

  2591. you've

  2592. set

  2593. before

  2594. us

  2595. and

  2596. as

  2597. Satan

  2598. is

  2599. whispering

  2600. in

  2601. our

  2602. ear

  2603. all

  2604. of

  2605. the

  2606. reasons

  2607. why

  2608. we're

  2609. disqualified

  2610. for

  2611. this

  2612. amazing

  2613. assignment

  2614. Lord

  2615. help

  2616. us

  2617. to

  2618. remember

  2619. that

  2620. there

  2621. is

  2622. cleansing

  2623. and

  2624. forgiveness

  2625. with

  2626. you

  2627. there

  2628. is

  2629. hope

  2630. in

  2631. Christ

  2632. today

  2633. we

  2634. thank

  2635. you

  2636. for

  2637. that

  2638. in

  2639. Jesus

  2640. name

  2641. amen
