  1. You're listening to a message to go from X Church.

  2. We hope this message will light up your day.

  3. Today I have a word for us, hopefully to encourage

  4. us to end well and to remember who helps us

  5. end well.

  6. Amen.

  7. Amen.

  8. I know some of us, our year may have.

  9. Been pretty chaotic, maybe unpredictable this year. Some of us

  10. may be discouraged. Some may be mundane, like the whole

  11. year has just been like meh. Or some of us

  12. may be been cruising along, floating along, but Hey, we

  13. have another two and a half months to go before

  14. the year ends and we're going to enter 2027. So

  15. let's press in. Let's encourage one another to end the

  16. year well and to really, really experience God. Really, you know,

  17. take hold of all that He has for us this

  18. year before we enter into the new year.

  19. Amen?

  20. Amen.

  21. Okay, so today my message, if you're taking notes, is

  22. called Spirit of God.

  23. Then and now.

  24. Oh, what are we going to talk about? Then and now. Today,

  25. I'm going to get us to read quite a number

  26. of scripture. And, you know, when we are in church, right,

  27. it really, it is participation of everybody, right? It shouldn't be,

  28. we are not here doing a show. So, you know,

  29. Pastor Dan is not, it's not concert. That's why we

  30. all participate in worship. Even when the Speaker is here preaching.

  31. All of you are also participating in the Word. You know,

  32. whether it's agreeing and saying yes and amen. And today,

  33. I'm going to get you to read some verses later on. Okay,

  34. so you better have your Bibles ready. Bibles, ready your

  35. physical Bibles, e-Bibles. But I will, yeah, be walking around

  36. so that you all don't just hear my voice.

  37. I want to hear some of your voices.

  38. Okay, so the year, the theme this year, what has

  39. it been? What's the theme this year?

  40. Shout it out. Yes, revival.

  41. Okay, and these five years till 2030, you know, God

  42. has given Pastor Kenneth this dream, right? So we have dream,

  43. five words that we're going through. And of course, you know,

  44. those of you who have been with us, at least

  45. from last year, you know, we were talking a lot

  46. about discipleship last year. This year, we've been talking about revival, right?

  47. And it's the work of God, revival.

  48. It's not man... We can't plan for it.

  49. And it's not just about like one time rally, one

  50. time event and then yeah, everybody is like on fire

  51. and we are feeling all the goosebumps.

  52. It's not about that. Revival is not that, right?

  53. It is a lot of what we've been focusing on

  54. this year is personal revival. What are we experiencing in

  55. our hearts personally, right? In our families, in our church,

  56. in our small groups. But personal revival starts with us.

  57. Right?

  58. Revival starts with us.

  59. And we want to see revival happen in Malaysia and beyond.

  60. Right?

  61. It's got to start with us first as individuals. And

  62. just falling in love with Jesus again, over and over again.

  63. Some of us have been believers for a long, long time.

  64. And we might lose that first love, but we want

  65. to fall in love with Him again. We want to

  66. come back to that first love. We want to go

  67. deeper with the Holy Spirit. We sang just now again,

  68. Holy Spirit, You're welcome here. You know, and we want

  69. to catch the Father's heart.

  70. Amen.

  71. And I pray if we have not been experiencing that

  72. deep awakening this year. you know, in our spirits, that

  73. we will not miss out, even as the year draws

  74. to the end.

  75. Still got time, okay?

  76. Still got time to pull in and like, you know,

  77. I was just picturing like wrestling with God, you know,

  78. not wanting to let go of Him, like how Jacob

  79. wrestled with God and, you know, and said, no, I

  80. won't let go until I get this blessing. I won't

  81. let go until I experience this awakening in my spirit.

  82. The year's coming to an end. You know, we don't

  83. have much time. Like, I see all the things that's

  84. happening in the world. I mean, Just recently what, Damansara

  85. Utama there got mini tornadoes and cars getting lifted up.

  86. I mean like crazy stuff is happening just in next

  87. door and all our neighbouring towns in Malaysia, out of

  88. all places. And I mean the haze and everything that's

  89. happening in the world, you know that these are all

  90. birth pangs. Those who have been believers for a while,

  91. these are all signs, right, of the ends of age.

  92. So You know, time is drawing near to Jesus' coming.

  93. But yeah, but even as we enter the end of

  94. this year, you know, let's wrestle with God and say, God,

  95. you know, I haven't really experienced that awakening in my spirit,

  96. that revival. Lord, I will not let you go until

  97. you give me that experience. I don't want to enter

  98. into 2027 like same old, same old, right? We want

  99. to enter into the new year like, really? Okay, what's next, God?

  100. In this year, and you all can see it in

  101. the next letter. Next year, everyone's like, what's E? Evangelism.

  102. Everyone is like, closed eyes, right? It's like the hardest

  103. thing sometimes for the church to talk about. Evangelism.

  104. You know, but we want to, it is, like I said,

  105. it starts with going deeper with the Lord first this year.

  106. So we don't want to miss out on that. We

  107. want to go forwards. We want to go deeper.

  108. We want to, You know, we're saying, Lord, revive my heart.

  109. I want to burn for you and.

  110. Really experience that.

  111. Because I think as we enter into 2027, if we

  112. really experience God afresh this year and really go deeper

  113. with Him this year, evangelism is like a by-product.

  114. We don't need to like, everybody, let's go evangelize. No,

  115. it's not that. I think we'll all just be so

  116. stirred up. God, you're so good to me. I can't help. Yeah,

  117. but share.

  118. I can't keep this to myself. I need everyone around

  119. me to know how good this God is. And so

  120. it will be a natural progression so that we don't

  121. need to like every year, you know, come on, let's

  122. do this. Let's do this. This is the great commission.

  123. This is what God has called us as believers to do.

  124. This is our very purpose. And if our lives, we

  125. don't live doing this, that's when we feel like, what's

  126. my purpose?

  127. A bit lost. A bit lost. Right, so.

  128. Yes, how can we not share the goodness of God

  129. with people that we love at the very least? Starting

  130. with the people we love, then after that, can start

  131. with strangers or people we don't really know. And you've

  132. heard this analogy before, right? When you eat at a

  133. really good restaurant maybe or stay in a really good hotel.

  134. I mean, do you keep it to yourself? you should

  135. tell your, at least, your good friends. Maybe you won't

  136. tell a stranger, but you tell at least your good friends,

  137. your family, like, hey, next time let's go here together.

  138. Right?

  139. We will share it.

  140. It's something that is natural in us to want to

  141. share with people that we love. Okay, so I pray

  142. that that's the same for us when we talk about

  143. our lives and what we experience with God.

  144. Amen. Okay.

  145. So, I was mentioning the, I know the word can

  146. be daunting.

  147. And outside our comfort zones.

  148. Because as we end the year, we're going to be

  149. preparing to enter into 2027, talking about evangelism. And we

  150. sometimes get into a place where it's only for the

  151. elect few. The pastors, the elders, the leaders, the missionaries.

  152. Those with the gift of evangelism. All those who are

  153. called to it. It's for them. The rest of us

  154. will just come to church and Serve in church and

  155. chukup lah, chukup. No, if you study the scripture, we

  156. know right, God has called all of us, all of

  157. us to share, this is not my word today by

  158. the way, it's just intro, all of us to share

  159. the good news of Christ and make disciples. Right, we

  160. all know that word from Matthew. And the thing is right,

  161. the only thing that will get us from here to there,

  162. to really evangelism in 2027, who do you think is

  163. going to prepare us and empower us?

  164. Holy Spirit, we'll be singing about him. Welcome here. He's

  165. the only one because naturally, we all know we don't

  166. want to share. Very awkward. Very out of our comfort zone.

  167. So weird lah. People are going to look at me funny.

  168. And there's a fear that sometimes we can't even explain

  169. why we have this fear. What's so bad about? What

  170. can go wrong? Like, how bad can it be when

  171. we share with someone? But it is a fear that

  172. sometimes we can't explain why because it's spiritual.

  173. I really believe it's spiritual. The enemy will try all

  174. he can to stop us. from sharing.

  175. He'll try all he can to keep us silent.

  176. Right?

  177. And that's why he also pulls us down, discourages us

  178. so we are so caught up in our own lives.

  179. We don't even have time to share with others. But

  180. that's not his will for us.

  181. Right?

  182. He wants us to live an abundant life. And so,

  183. I know we're going to talk about evangelism a lot

  184. next year. So you will hear about that a lot.

  185. I'm not going to talk about it today. But I

  186. did want to talk about the person who will prepare us. Okay,

  187. the person who prepares for the coming year. Our God,

  188. those who are maybe new in the faith, you know

  189. our God is three in one. Okay, it's Godhead three

  190. in one. We have the Father, the Son and the

  191. Holy Spirit from the beginning till eternity. All three of

  192. them working together. And I think some months back, I

  193. went through that together, right? We talked about the Father, Son,

  194. Holy Spirit, how their roles are different, how they work together,

  195. how they're united. But today I want to focus on

  196. the Holy Spirit.

  197. Okay, the Spirit of God. Interchangeable, Holy Spirit. Spirit of God.

  198. And I remember actually my very first sermon in XKK.

  199. When did I start speaking? Last year. I still can't remember.

  200. Not that long. lah. I think last year. Earlier last year.

  201. And I remember I spoke about power. Like what is

  202. power for, right? And we looked at Acts chapter 1

    Acts 1:8

  203. verse 8. You all know what it was? Who knows

  204. that verse can say, can read it out. Acts chapter

    Acts 1:8

  205. 1 verse 8. But you shall receive... Power when the

  206. Holy Spirit has come upon you and you shall be

  207. my witnesses.

  208. Where?

  209. In Jerusalem first and then Judea, Samaria and then to

  210. the ends of the earth. And evangelism is part of witnessing.

  211. God says you will be my witnesses. I'll give you

  212. power to be my witnesses. And the only way we're

  213. going to see the vision that God has.

  214. Given Acts, right?

  215. Which is actually for every church also, the Great Commission, right?

  216. Making more disciples, bringing people into the light. That's what

  217. every church mission should be. The only person that can

  218. help us get there and help us accomplish that vision

  219. is the Holy Spirit. There's no other way. By our

  220. own strength, no way. By tons of training also, no way.

  221. how much we preach also.

  222. No way. It's only the Holy Spirit that can give

  223. us that power.

  224. Amen.

  225. Alright. So let's start reading Scripture.

  226. Okay, everyone got your Bibles? Let's look at the work

  227. of the Holy Spirit throughout the Scriptures. These are only

  228. a few. There's so many more but I just pick

  229. out some examples.

  230. Okay. Let's start with Genesis.

  231. Genesis 1 chapter 2.

  232. Who's there? Who's there?

  233. All don't dare to say because I'll come to you. Okay,

  234. let's start with Rochelle. She's the one responding to me

  235. and encouraging me. Okay, Genesis chapter 1 verse 2. Genesis

    Genesis 1:2 Genesis 1:2

  236. chapter 1 verse 2. The earth was without form and

  237. void and darkness was on the face of the deep.

  238. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face

  239. of the waters.

  240. Amen.

  241. Who was hovering over the face of the waters? The

  242. Holy Spirit, right? We see, that's why we see and

  243. we know that the whole Trinity was working together from

  244. the beginning. It's not like at the beginning, there was

  245. only the Father and then when Jesus came to earth,

  246. then only got Jesus. And then after Jesus went back

  247. to heaven, then only got Holy Spirit. No, they were

  248. always working together. So we see the Holy Spirit right

  249. from the beginning at the creation of the world.

  250. Amen.

  251. Then we're going to read Exodus chapter 31, verse 1

    Exodus 31:1–5

  252. to 5.

  253. This one a bit longer. Who got enough voice? Who

  254. want to read for me?

  255. Exodus 31, 1 to 5.

  256. Gabriel, thank.

  257. You.

  258. Then the Lord spoke to Moses saying, See, I have

  259. called by name Bezazel, the son of Uri, the son

  260. of Hur, of the tribe of Judah. And I have

  261. filled him with the Spirit of God in wisdom, in understanding,

  262. in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship to design

  263. artistic works to work in gold, in silver, in bronze,

  264. in cutting jewels, for setting, in carving wood and to

  265. work in all manner of workmanship.

  266. Wow, anyone here makes jewellery or carpentry, any artsy people, craftsmanship?

  267. Don't have ah? All very humble, don't want to lift

  268. up a hand.

  269. Wow, but we see here, the Spirit of God fills Bezalel, right?

  270. Bezalel.

  271. It grants him wisdom, understanding, knowledge and workmanship skills.

  272. Right? To do the work.

  273. And you know that then he builds, he helps to

  274. build the tabernacle. But the Spirit of God came upon him,

  275. granted him all these skills.

  276. Yes.

  277. Okay, then we move on. Okay, we just go through

  278. the Old Testament.

  279. Numbers 27, verse 18. Let's see who's my next helper. Yeah,

    Numbers 27:18

  280. I know it's there on screen. Actually, XTV, don't need

  281. to be so kind. Let them flip to the Bible first.

  282. Regina, you want to read for me?

  283. Can, huh?

  284. Numbers 27, verse 18. So the Lord said to Moses,

    Numbers 27:18

  285. Take Joshua the son of Nun, a man in whom

  286. is the Spirit, and lay your hand on him. Amen.

  287. Take Joshua the son of Nun, a man in whom

  288. is the Spirit.

  289. Right?

  290. So the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of God was already

  291. in him, upon him.

  292. And you all know Joshua.

  293. You all know Joshua, right? After Moses, he led the

  294. Israelites away. So Spirit of God came upon Joshua, was

  295. already in Joshua, to lead the Israelites. Y'all wondering where

  296. am I getting at? Okay, we're going to read a

  297. few more. Judges 3, verse 10. Read verse 10 first.

    Judges 3:10

  298. I start coming up the upstairs already. Y'all think I'm

  299. too lazy to go up?

  300. No lah. Eh, who's there? 3, 10. Katrina there already ah?

  301. The Spirit of the Lord came upon him so that

  302. he became Israel's judge and went to war. The Lord

  303. gave Cushan Rishad, king of Aram, into the hands of Othniel,

  304. who overpowered him.

  305. Amen.

  306. So here you see the Spirit of God The Spirit

  307. of the Lord came over him.

  308. Who is him? It's Othniel, okay? His name there. Yeah.

  309. And then he overpowered the king of Mesopotamia.

  310. Okay, what was the other verse I put? Sorry. And

  311. still in Judges....

  312. Yeah, and those who know the book of Judges, you know, different,

  313. different Judges, and the Spirit of God came upon them.

  314. In this case, Othniel, he judged Israel.

  315. So we move on to Judges 14, verse 6.

    Judges 14:6

  316. Yeah, come this side. There it is.

  317. And the Spirit of the Lord came mightily upon him,

  318. and he tore the lion apart, as one would have

  319. torn apart a young goat. though he had nothing in

  320. his hand. But he did not tell his father or

  321. his mother what he had done.

  322. Who is this? Samson!

  323. We all love this favourite Sunday school or ex-kid story.

  324. Samson!

  325. Everyone draws him with muscles and all. But maybe he

  326. didn't look like that.

  327. Who knows?

  328. Maybe he's actually very thin, slender, slender. But the Spirit

  329. of God will come upon him in power and then...

  330. He can tear a lion apart with his bare hands.

  331. Bare hands, no knife, no nothing. Just bare hands. But

  332. Spirit of God came upon him. And then he, I mean,

  333. he killed lion, he killed other, like, lots of people. Okay,

  334. but it was God's Spirit upon him that gave him

  335. that strength. Okay, two more scriptures we read.

  336. 1 Samuel 16, verse 13. Okay, I go higher up

    1 Samuel 16:13

  337. a little bit for Samuel 16. 1 Samuel 16.

  338. 13.

  339. Can I go high, high up here? Can tuck there?

  340. Then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him

  341. in the midst of his brothers.

  342. And the Spirit of the Lord came upon David from

  343. that day forward.

  344. So Samuel arose and went to Ramah. Yeah, so Samuel...

  345. anointed who?

  346. David. We all love the stories of David as well.

  347. Shepherd boy David became King David and Samuel anointed him.

  348. Right? And what does it say?

  349. And the Spirit of the Lord came upon David from

  350. that day forward.

  351. Amen.

  352. And you know King David reigned in Israel, led the people.

  353. Amen.

  354. And he was a man after God's own heart. Okay,

  355. and one more.

  356. 2 Chronicles 15. 2 Chronicles 15 verses 1 to 2. XTV,

    2 Chronicles 15:1–2

  357. you can just leave my slide up so they can

  358. see the verses and then they can read from their Bibles.

  359. 2 Chronicles 15 verse 1 to 2.

    2 Chronicles 15:1–2

  360. Okay, last one. This side. Amen. And you read throughout,

  361. you know, Kings, Chronicles, the Spirit of God came upon

  362. different men Amen.

  363. And you read throughout, you know, Kings, Chronicles, the Spirit

  364. of God came upon different men, right, different prophets to

  365. release a word, to speak to God's people.

  366. In this case, to speak to King Asa, to encourage him.

  367. And, you know, if you read on, it's very interesting

  368. when you read Chronicles, read on, then he defeats Asa.

  369. the people, His enemies and things like that. But later on,

  370. I mentioned what happens after that.

  371. So why am I bringing us through these verses? Just

  372. for us to see that the.

  373. Spirit of God, whom we frequently call the Holy Spirit today,

  374. He was very active. He was active, right, in the

  375. Old Testament. But did you notice something? The experience of

  376. the Holy Spirit was selective.

  377. Selective.

  378. It wasn't that they called upon him and he came

  379. and empowered them.

  380. No. He chose.

  381. Specific people for specific tasks and then he came upon them.

  382. So it was selective. He came upon specific people to

  383. be craftsmen, some were.

  384. Judges, some were kings, like King David, judges like O'Neill, Samson,

  385. then there were prophets. Like this one, Azariah and many,

  386. many more. So He chose, He selected.

  387. But in the New Testament, what changes? And that's the

  388. good news for us, right? What changes in the New Testament?

  389. The Holy Spirit's interaction with mankind is no longer selective, correct?

  390. He's been given to all men and women and children.

  391. He's been given to all of us. In Joel 2,

    Joel 2:28

  392. verse 28, What does it say? You can go to

  393. my next slide. This is the prophetic promise, right, that

  394. Joel says. And it shall come to pass afterward that

  395. I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh. Your

  396. sons and your daughters shall prophesy. Your old men shall

  397. dream dreams. Your young men shall see visions. This is

  398. the prophecy from Joel. And you hear Peter preach it

  399. again in his, you know, his first sermon.

  400. He mentions this.

  401. But wow.

  402. From the Spirit of God being selective, He only chose

  403. certain men. Now the privilege that we have is, is

  404. now universal.

  405. Hallelujah.

  406. Yeah, He's poured out His Spirit on all men, all flesh.

  407. And God is saying, I will, you know, not I may,

  408. not should, I will pour out my Spirit on who?

  409. Pastors?

  410. Elders?

  411. Leaders? Missionaries?

  412. Yes.

  413. Full-time workers only? Teachers?

  414. No.

  415. All.

  416. All flesh. You all got flesh? Touch the person beside you.

  417. You are flesh. You are flesh. And bones.

  418. Turn to your other neighbours. Say, so the Spirit of

  419. God is upon you. Come on, say it with conviction.

  420. Spirit of God is upon you.

  421. Okay, that's you.

  422. That's me.

  423. Amen.

  424. Amen.

  425. And, you know, after Jesus had been crucified, buried, resurrected,

  426. He appeared to His disciples for 40 days and He

  427. spoke about the kingdom. He continued speaking to the disciples

  428. about the kingdom of God and then what does He

  429. command them? Don't depart from Jerusalem. He says, don't depart

  430. from Jerusalem, but wait here. Wait for the promise of

  431. the Father. Who's that promise?

  432. Come on.

  433. Anyone knows it? Who was the promise? The Holy Spirit

  434. was the promise of the Father. He said, wait in Jerusalem. Terry,

  435. wait here. Don't go anywhere.

  436. And so we read the next verse in Acts 1,

    Acts 1:4–5

  437. verse 4 to 5. And being assembled together with them,

  438. He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to

  439. wait for the promise of the Father, which He said,

  440. You have heard from Me. For John truly baptized with water,

  441. but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not

  442. many days from now. Wow, so all the disciples are

  443. like wondering, what is this?

  444. What's going to happen?

  445. Wait in Jerusalem? Okay, so Joel has prophesied. Now Jesus

  446. has said it. And here comes the fulfillment. We see

  447. the beginning of the fulfillment in Acts chapter 2. The

    Acts 2 chapter mention

  448. whole core values we've been reading, Acts chapter 2, right?

    Acts 2 chapter mention

  449. This also happened in Acts chapter 2. So verse 1

    Acts 2 chapter mention

  450. to 4, what does it say? Next slide, yeah. When

  451. the day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all

  452. with one accord in one place and suddenly there came

  453. a sound from heaven as a rushing wind and it

  454. filled the whole house where they were sitting. Then there

  455. appeared to them divided tongues of fire and one sat

  456. upon each of them and they were some of them. All,

  457. they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began

  458. to speak with other tongues as the Spirit gave them Amen.

  459. There were 120 of them there in the upper room.

  460. How many of us here? If everyone feel then, 120, right?

  461. This space fits about.

  462. Yeah, in the upper room.

  463. So I just give you a bit of, maybe those

  464. who don't know what Pentecost is. So Pentecost, the word

  465. Pentecost comes from the Greek word Pentecoste.

  466. I don't know if I'm pronouncing it right, but it

  467. means 50th. Okay, 50th.

  468. And the Jews used to celebrate and it's an agricultural

  469. and religious festival at that time called Shavuot.

  470. Shavuot. Okay, or called the Feast of Weeks or Feast

  471. of Harvest.

  472. So the 50th day, it is actually celebrated on the

  473. 50th day after the second day of Passover.

  474. I know a lot of festivals. Jews have a lot

  475. of festivals. But Passover, you know, right?

  476. They celebrate because when Moses, when God sent the plagues, right?

  477. God saved them from the final plague, which is the

  478. birth of the firstborn. So Passover is when they put

  479. the blood of the Lamb on the doors and God

  480. spared the Israelites from that final plague in Egypt and

  481. liberated them from slavery.

  482. Okay, so now Pentecost, when we.

  483. Celebrate it, we celebrate it on the.

  484. 50 days after Easter.

  485. After Jesus resurrected. Okay, Resurrection Sunday. That's what Pentecost is.

  486. Because I used to hang, what's that, what's that? Okay,

  487. so 120 of them, disciples, were recorded, named. They were

  488. gathered in the upper room and they were, 115 of

  489. them got filled.

  490. No.

  491. All, the Bible says all, means all 120 of them named,

  492. all were filled with.

  493. The Holy Spirit because that was the promise of the Father.

  494. And that is why Jesus said in John 16 verse 7, right?

    John 16:7

  495. It is to your advantage that I go away.

  496. Disciples are like, what? No way, man, Jesus. You want

  497. to stay here forever with us? How can it be

  498. a good thing that you're going away? Why are you going?

  499. Where are you going? You can imagine, right? I mean,

  500. I think if we are there, the disciples would be like, what? No,

  501. don't go. Don't ever go. We need you here.

  502. You are the one who gives us the words of life.

  503. You give us the words of truth. Where would we

  504. go without you? But Jesus says, it is to your

  505. advantage that I go away. Because, why? If I do

  506. not go away, then the helper will not come to you.

  507. But if I depart, I will send him to you. Okay,

  508. I don't know how many of you ask, why cannot

  509. they just both stay on earth together? Okay, that one

  510. can be a whole other sermon. Why couldn't Jesus just

  511. stay on and then Holy Spirit also come? Then more lah,

  512. the more the merrier. Okay, got a lot of reasons lah,

  513. but yeah, save that for another day. Unless you can

  514. go and study it yourself. Because I was curious, I

  515. asked that question. Yeah, go study it yourself.

  516. But I won't talk about that today.

  517. So now, the Spirit of God is not given selectively

  518. but universally.

  519. Amen.

  520. Amen.

  521. He interacts with everyone who believes, everywhere, worldwide. How amazing

  522. is that? It's so amazing. It's so cool.

  523. Okay, and.

  524. Maybe you're thinking to yourself, but that was His disciples

  525. back then, those who were walking with Him.

  526. You know, so Holy Spirit came upon all of them.

  527. No.

  528. See, this is what Peter says in Acts 2, verse 38.

    Acts 2:38

  529. And Peter said to them, Repent. Right, this is after

  530. they were all speaking in tongues and then people came

  531. around like, oh, they're all drunk or what.

  532. And then Peter.

  533. speaks his first sermon and he says, repent and let

  534. every one of you be baptised in the name of

  535. Jesus Christ for the remission of sins and you shall

  536. receive the gift of.

  537. The Holy Spirit. It's a promise.

  538. Everyone, he was telling all the Israelites, the Jews at

  539. that time, you, you repent, you get baptised for the

  540. forgiveness of your sins and then you will receive the

  541. Holy Spirit. It's as simple as like step one, two, three, right?

  542. You will and it's not like second guessing. Will I,

  543. will I not?

  544. No.

  545. That is the promise Holy Spirit has given to us.

  546. Amen.

  547. Can I hear an amen? Okay, now we all have

  548. that privilege and it's no longer selective. Now, number two,

  549. the other thing that we see in the Old Testament

  550. is that the Holy Spirit came upon selected people for

  551. a season. and for a specific task. Right, so in

  552. 1 Samuel chapter 10, just.

    1 Samuel 10 chapter mention

  553. Now we, no, we didn't read that chapter. Okay, we

  554. read it now.

  555. 1 Samuel chapter 10 verse 6. I think I have

    1 Samuel 10:6

  556. it there. Then the Spirit of the Lord will come

  557. upon you and you will prophesy with them and be

  558. turned into another man. This is Samuel telling Saul, okay,

  559. before Saul became king of Israel. And Samuel, very interestingly,

  560. Samuel is his prophet, his priest, he's also judge. He's

  561. one of the, I think he's the only, I'm not sure,

  562. only one that carries all three roles. He was prophet,

  563. priest and judge in Israel. He anoints Saul and he says,

  564. And then if you read on to verse 10, Right,

  565. Saul listens to all that Samuel says and he goes,

  566. he does this and that. And when they came there

  567. to the hill, there was a group of prophets to

  568. meet him. Then the Spirit of God came upon him

  569. and he prophesied among them. Right, so Prophet Samuel, he

  570. gives instructions for Saul to go to the terebinth tree

  571. and then to the hill of God and then to

  572. the city and then he'll meet a group of prophets

  573. and they'll be worshipping, they'll be prophesying And then the

  574. Spirit of God comes upon Saul and he also starts prophesying.

  575. The people all are like, is he also one of

  576. the prophets? So the Spirit of God was upon Saul

  577. to reign, to rule, to lead the Israelites.

  578. Right?

  579. But most of you know what happens after that. Sadly.

  580. It's like in the next few chapters, it's basically about

  581. two years. Two years after Saul started reigning, what happened?

  582. He starts sinning. Starts sinning before God. He doesn't obey.

  583. He does his own thing. What he thinks is right.

  584. Sounds familiar.

  585. A lot of us like to do what we think

  586. is right.

  587. So Saul thought it's right.

  588. It's right.

  589. Okay, what? Okay, what? I can sacrifice. It's a good thing, what?

  590. Sacrifice unto the Lord. You get the verse, right? Obedience

  591. is better than sacrifice. Obey God.

  592. It's not just saying, God, I sacrifice so much. I

  593. didn't ask you to sacrifice that. So Saul started sinning

  594. and by chapter 16, right? Chapter 10, he's anointed, his

  595. spirit of God is upon him. Chapter 16, so said,

  596. what did it say in verse 14?

  597. But the spirit of the Lord departed from Saul.

  598. Gone already, bye bye. And a distressing spirit from the

  599. Lord troubled him. So it was only a temporary, it

  600. was temporary. Few years, spirit of God was upon him.

  601. He started sinning, wasn't walking with the Lord. Spirit of

  602. God left him. And many of you know the rest

  603. of the story. God then chooses a new king, right?

  604. Who is that? King David to take his place. But

  605. he was only, Spirit of God was only upon him

  606. for a while.

  607. Now in another book of the Bible, interestingly, also a

  608. chapter 16. Just now Saul was chapter 16 in the

  609. book of Samuel. And then in Judges chapter 16, Verse 20,

    Judges 16:20

  610. we read about another person.

  611. And she said, you all know who's the she, right? Delilah.

  612. The Philistines are upon you, Samson. He awoke from his

  613. sleep and said, I will go out as before at

  614. other times and shake myself free. But he did not

  615. know that the Lord had departed from him again. Another

  616. sad story. Spirit of God leaves another person, this time Samson.

  617. He was also one of the judges appointed by God

  618. to deliver Israel from her enemies. And the Spirit of

  619. God repeatedly came upon him in power.

  620. That was his anointing, his strength.

  621. But that was a secret, right? For him to remain

  622. in God's power, in his spirit.

  623. What was it? His hair.

  624. He had to make an oath, right? A covenant with

  625. the Lord never to shave his head. But what happened?

  626. He let a woman seduce him and get him to

  627. tell her the secrets to his strength, right? So the

  628. moment he breaks that covenant, his covenant with God about

  629. never shaving his head, which, you know, it shows his

  630. dedication to God broken already.

  631. What happened?

  632. God's Spirit leaves him, which also meant his strength left him.

  633. And again, sad ending, although in the end, again, God

  634. is gracious, right? He still came upon Samson one final time.

  635. Yeah.

  636. And he killed even more Philistines at that time than

  637. when he was alive.

  638. Of course, he died also. That's sad.

  639. But God still came upon him one last time. But

  640. we still see it's temporary, right? But what is the

  641. good news in New Testament? We are living the New Testament!

  642. 1 John 14 verse 16 to 17 says, And I

  643. will pray the Father, and He will give you another

  644. Helper that.

  645. Come on, read that red verse with me together.

  646. He may abide with you forever.

  647. Forever.

  648. The Spirit of truth whom the world cannot receive because

  649. it neither sees Him nor knows Him, but you know Him,

  650. for He dwells with you and will be with you.

  651. He will abide in us forever.

  652. Amen.

  653. Amen. Can I hear an amen?

  654. And it's no longer just for a season or a task.

  655. He doesn't just come upon you to do something great.

  656. Just one task. No. He abides in us forever.

  657. And what.

  658. I think what the Old Testament heroes would have given

  659. to have this. Can you imagine?

  660. What a privilege. I'm sure they.

  661. Now, of course, they are in heaven this year. It's like, wow,

  662. all these believers have it easy, man. Anytime can just

  663. have Holy Spirit power in you. At that time, they

  664. cannot even choose when. God decides when He will come

  665. upon them in power. So what a privilege, what an honour,

  666. you know, that He never leaves us.

  667. Even in Psalms 51 verse 11, this is King David.

    Psalms 51:11

  668. I didn't put it on screen. King David, He's a

  669. man after God's own heart. But even he prays this,

  670. you know, do not cast me away from your presence

  671. and do not take your Holy Spirit from me. I

  672. think we don't even need to pray that now because

  673. we know that his promise is already with us. But

  674. even King David had to, oh, please, God, don't take

  675. your Spirit from me.

  676. Right?

  677. And here we have Jesus assuring us that the Holy

  678. Spirit will abide with us forever.

  679. How amazing, how powerful. That is, really, it's what a

  680. privilege to be living in this time. I know a

  681. lot of times we're like, it would be so cool

  682. if we lived during Jesus' time.

  683. But actually now, we have even more power, you know.

  684. Of course, there would have been something else to be

  685. living at Jesus' time. But I think it would have

  686. been even more difficult really breaking out of all the

  687. mindsets and traditions and religions and nothing Jesus said made sense.

  688. At that time, I mean, now we read it so

  689. many times, we're like, oh yeah, yeah.

  690. Now it makes sense to us, right? But at that time, wow, mind-blowing.

  691. But we are living in an amazing time where the

  692. Holy Spirit has already been poured out on all men,

  693. all women, all children.

  694. Amen.

  695. I'm going to my third point. Okay, not least. No

  696. need to move to the slide first. Just listen to me.

  697. In the Old Testament.

  698. You observe, right?

  699. Just now we said the Holy Spirit came upon a

  700. selected few. He came upon them in a season and.

  701. For specific tasks. And what did He give them? He

  702. gave them an external empowerment.

  703. Right?

  704. It was like, oh, skill for workmanship. It was strength

  705. like Samson to defeat the enemies.

  706. It was wisdom.

  707. It was anointing to you know, prophesy to share God's

  708. word with kings or with the Israelites. So it's always

  709. that external empowerment. Like, yeah, Saul, he had that empowerment

  710. for a while to lead Israel. Samson to deliver Israel.

  711. And throughout the book of Kings and Chronicles, I've been

  712. reading through Chronicles. And we read, right, about king after

  713. king after king after king from David onwards.

  714. A lot of it is very discouraging. Quite disheartening.

  715. Because we read, there's only a few that are pointed

  716. out that were good kings, meaning they walked with God,

  717. they followed His commandments. Most of the rest were evil kings.

  718. Okay.

  719. And you see from father-son, father-son, I don't know why

  720. it's like, good father and then the son will be evil.

  721. And then maybe have one good one and then evil.

  722. You know, and Even the good ones. Even the good ones.

  723. And I read through like, oh yes, one good king.

  724. And then towards the end there, oh no. They don't

  725. seem to end well. At some point, they will stray

  726. or forsake God. And you can go on and read

  727. about it yourself, you know, in Book of Chronicles if

  728. you haven't yet. But I really feel God's heart breaking.

  729. These are His chosen people. The people that He called

  730. by name. He said, you are my people. And then

  731. these are the ones that are breaking His heart each time.

  732. I mean, they are the ones who started to say,

  733. I want a king. I want a king like all

  734. the other nations, right? So God gave the king. The

  735. first king is Saul. And then, you know, it goes on.

  736. David was the only one that lasted. He also had sin,

  737. but he always came back.

  738. To God.

  739. Many of his other, you know, downline, at the end

  740. of their lives, stray.

  741. Say wrong already, say wrong.

  742. And, this like, not even talking about the nations of,

  743. the other nations in the world who, lagi lah, they

  744. were into idolatry, all kinds of abominations. I mean, you

  745. read about it, sacrificing their children in the fire, things

  746. like that. And, some of the kings of Israel also

  747. did that. followed what the rest of the nations were doing.

  748. And I'm reading that and I'm thinking to myself, how?

  749. How did they even get to that point? But then

  750. studying His Word and reading through this, how the Holy

  751. Spirit worked then and now, I tell you what the

  752. beautiful thing now is. Is that it's no longer just

  753. external empowerment that the Holy Spirit gives.

  754. What is it? It's internal transformation. Internal transformation.

  755. We see King Saul in 1 Samuel 10.

  756. He's anointed, he can prophesy and all that. But what happened?

  757. His heart still turns away. It's still a turn.

  758. Same thing with Samson. He has that strength.

  759. From the time he's born, he's already anointed, prophesied over.

  760. But again, heart still turns away. What is different today

  761. with us? I have so many stories of so many kings.

  762. Let me just point out one. If we think about

  763. Noah also, Noah's time. I was thinking about Noah because

  764. last week, sight and sound theatres, I don't know how

  765. many of you have some.

  766. Whatever, watch. You like, huh? I still like. Like theatre.

  767. So sight and sound theatres were screening Noah for free

  768. for three days because of their 30th anniversary or something

  769. like that over the weekend.

  770. So my kids watched it three times. Once a day,

  771. I think. For that whole weekend.

  772. And I love how they emphasise on the fact towards

  773. the end that even though God wiped out the entire earth,

  774. all the evil, He only saved one family who was righteous.

  775. Noah and his family.

  776. How many of them? Eight of them.

  777. He wanted all the evil in the entire earth. But

  778. what still remained? Sin is still there. After all the

  779. evil has been wiped out in the play, no one says,

  780. but sin is still in us.

  781. It's still in me. It's still in my sons. Was

  782. this all for nothing?

  783. Is it going to happen all over again? You know,

  784. when we populate the earth again, it's just going to

  785. be as evil as before.

  786. Yes.

  787. Yes, we know that that happened. Evil still existed. But

  788. the promise and the beautiful thing is that, you know,

  789. Noah is like a foreshadow, right, of what to come.

  790. What's to come, the ark. All those who would enter

  791. into the door of the ark would be saved from

  792. the flood at that time. But what is the parallel?

  793. Jesus is the door to salvation. All who would enter

  794. through him goes to the father and he's saved. But

  795. there's only a time. You know, the.

  796. Thing that, you know, my.

  797. Kids were really like, so scary that part was when

  798. God shut the door of the ark. I still didn't

  799. remember that part but God was the one who shut

  800. the door, sealed the door and everyone's like screaming outside

  801. because it's starting to rain, right, and.

  802. Flood and everyone's like, want to get in?

  803. And then, what they made it so that some are

  804. family members of them or, you know, yeah, family of

  805. those in the ark or the sister or brother, and

  806. they're screaming, but.

  807. It's too late. Time's up.

  808. God gave a specific time frame for them to enter

  809. into the ark, you know, to want to follow Jehovah

  810. at that time, but it was too late when God

  811. shut the door.

  812. Time's up already. Judgment.

  813. Time for judgment. And we think about it, it's the

  814. same for us. There'll be a time frame for us

  815. to get as many people through the door. That's why

  816. next year, evangelism, we need to get as many people

  817. through the door before it's too late. That time cannot be.

  818. No point begging whatsoever. When judgment comes, it's time for judgment.

  819. Why was I talking about Noah? Yes, because evil still existed.

  820. Even after God wiped out all the evil in the world,

  821. it still existed.

  822. In the hearts.

  823. And that's why God had to come through a different way,

  824. which is to send Jesus. That's the only way.

  825. Send Jesus.

  826. And you know the rest of the story. Of course,

  827. he took our sin. But he went back to the Father.

  828. And now he sends us the Holy Spirit. And it's

  829. only the Holy Spirit that can bring that internal transformation.

  830. That can help us remove sin from our life, you know.

  831. There's no other way. No other way.

  832. Amen.

  833. So this is the beautiful part, friends, of our lives

  834. now and the times that we're living in. It's that

  835. Jesus has gone back to be the Father. He's sitting

  836. at His right hand and He intercedes for us. He

  837. justifies us before the Father. He's justified. He's righteous because

  838. I took His sin and He believed in me.

  839. Yeah?

  840. Amen?

  841. And that's why I end with this point about internal transformation.

  842. Now the Holy Spirit is within us. Within us, He

  843. fills us and it's not just for empowerment, for something,

  844. for certain tasks. Although yes, that does happen sometimes, right?

  845. But more importantly, and I hope we catch that, it

  846. is for that internal transformation.

  847. Praise the Lord. Amen. And so the Holy Spirit has

  848. given us, has.

  849. Been given to us freely. If you read Ezekiel, next slide,

  850. Ezekiel 36, verse 26 to 27, it says, I will

    Ezekiel 36:26–27

  851. give you a new heart.

  852. Amen, and put a new spirit within you.

  853. I will take the heart of stone out of your

  854. flesh and give you a heart of flesh. And I

  855. will put my spirit within you and cause you to

  856. walk in my statutes. And you will keep my judgments

  857. and do them. We no longer need to strive and

  858. struggle on our own like how men did in the

  859. Old Testament. Imagine how hard it was then to live

  860. by the law, you know. The laws of Moses, I

  861. need to get everything right.

  862. So hard.

  863. But now we can keep His commandments. And in fact,

  864. His commandments now are at a higher level already. No

  865. longer just don't murder, right? Don't even hate your brother.

  866. But Ezekiel says we will. Again, not maybe, you will.

  867. You will keep God's judgments, God's commandments and do them

  868. only because God's Spirit is in us.

  869. Can I hear an amen?

  870. Amen.

  871. And what kind of transformation do we go through?

  872. We can read in Galatians chapter 5, verse 22 to 23.

    Galatians 5:22–23

  873. I'm drawing to a close.

  874. But the fruit of the Spirit is, come on, you

  875. all memorize this or not?

  876. All the kids memorize.

  877. Love, joy, peace, patience or long-suffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness,

  878. and self-control. Against such there is no law. So Galatians

  879. really lists this out, right?

  880. What?

  881. We transform from hate to love, from sadness into joy,

  882. from anxiety and worry to peace, from restlessness and short-temperedness

  883. to patience and long-suffering, from cruelty to kindness, from evil

  884. to goodness, from harshness to gentleness, from self-indulgence to self-control.

  885. Amen.

  886. And Final verse for you. I think it's final. No,

  887. not second final. 2 Corinthians 3, verse 18. So all

    2 Corinthians 3:18

  888. of us who have had their veil removed can see

  889. and reflect the glory of the Lord and the Lord

  890. who is the Spirit makes us.

  891. More and more like Him. Amen. So as we are

  892. changed into His glorious image.

  893. Wow.

  894. Wow.

  895. The Lord, who is Spirit, makes us more and more

  896. like Him as we are changed into His glorious image.

  897. And so I end today's message. Just a recap slide, right?

  898. How the Holy Spirit interacts with us. Yeah, we're living

  899. in the New Testament days, man. Old Testament, He's selective, temporary.

  900. And there's external empowerment. But today, He's universal.

  901. All of us have Him. He's permanent. He's with us forever.

  902. And there's internal transformation.

  903. Amen.

  904. Amen. Hallelujah.

  905. And this is, yes, the last verse before I close.

  906. Extreme can get ready. I close with this verse.

  907. 11, verses 11 to 13. You fathers, if your children

  908. ask for a fish, do you give them a snake instead?

  909. If they ask for an egg, do you give them

  910. a scorpion?

  911. Of course not.

  912. So if you sinful people, as us, know how to

  913. give good gifts to your children, how much more will

  914. your Heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who

  915. ask Him?

  916. Amen.

  917. For those who are wondering how do I be filled

  918. like that, filled with the Holy Spirit to experience all

  919. that has been talked about in its fullness, you know, ask.

  920. Simply ask the Father. Ask in the name of Jesus.

  921. Those who are yet to experience a personal revival in

  922. our hearts this year, ask.

  923. Those who are looking at next year's theme and going,

  924. oh no, evangelism. Or really shaking in our boots, our shoes.

  925. Let's walk.

  926. Walk with the Holy Spirit. And it will become natural.

  927. It will become part of our lives. Let's walk closer

  928. with Him. Allow Him to transform us. We read the

  929. verse before. Transform us more and more into the image

  930. of Christ. 2 Corinthians 3, verse 18. He transforms us

    2 Corinthians 3:18

  931. to the image of Christ. And before you know it,

  932. you'll be sharing about Christ naturally.

  933. In all that you do, the way you live, the

  934. things you say, how you say things. It's just be

  935. part of who you are. Amen.

  936. We hope you've been blessed by this message. For more
