  1. You're listening to a message to go from X Church.

  2. We hope this message will light up your day.

  3. What I want to share is that I also feel

  4. that we need to get our house in order. But

  5. before I begin, let me just start with a question. Okay,

  6. one question. If we couldn't meet in this building or

  7. in this space the next Sunday, would X Church still

  8. be a church? It's not a trick question. are we

  9. still the church or are we still a church if

  10. we can't meet here next week? And the answer, of course.

  11. You know, it's not, you know, what we do in

  12. the four walls here. And this is why a free plug,

  13. a free plug into what's to come. We might change

  14. the venue in a few weeks' time. On the 1st

  15. of November, we're doing worship at homes. Okay. And what

  16. that simply means is that we're doing, we're bringing your

  17. Sunday service to a small group level. in cell groups

  18. and what we call homes here. Why we do this

  19. every year, once a year? We're also trying to prepare

  20. the global church in terms of times that may change.

  21. Remember the pandemic, right? We were all forced to do

  22. things a bit differently. And fortunately, we did well. Or,

  23. you know, you can think about the context, you know,

  24. what if the government policies changes with the way we

  25. can practice church? What if we close the buildings? Like

  26. I said earlier, what if this is a place that

  27. we can't do? So this is the reason why I feel, well,

  28. we feel that we ought to be ready to prepare because,

  29. you know, the world is a crazy place. Sometimes things

  30. that you think will not happen does happen. So I

  31. think it's better to be ready and to also be

  32. resilient in that sense. Okay. So we need to be

  33. able to stand on our own. we need to be

  34. able to raise different ones, different leaders as well, to

  35. be able to continue to survive in, you know, unique times,

  36. just as the New Testament church has survived in many years, right?

  37. And we want believers to be able to worship, care

  38. for one another, continue making disciples, continue sharing the good

  39. news wherever you are. And that's why I said earlier,

  40. it doesn't really matter if we can't meet up in

  41. this physical space, the church will still thrive and carry on, okay? Now,

  42. second question. How many of you have actually done a

  43. small project, like a renovation project before? Any house owners here?

  44. Got it, right? Yeah. Most of the time, you'll see

  45. people will start with some small little project. Now, as

  46. an engineer, I'm an engineer, by the way, civil engineer,

  47. I can tell you that by ordering materials or building

  48. materials and getting it delivered to your house doesn't actually

  49. mean that things will get built. or things will get fixed, etc.

  50. It's just, yeah, you have the resources too, the items,

  51. but nothing gets built, right? And the contractor can't tell

  52. the owner, oh, you know, everything's already there, you know,

  53. it's there already. You fix it, you figure it out, right?

  54. Because materials can't fit itself together, right? And this is

  55. how I want to start off the message today, that

  56. the the church, you know, as a whole, God is

  57. also doing something similar with us. We are like materials.

  58. Just because we are all gathered together in a space

  59. waiting for new growth or building or even different phases

  60. of life, etc., it doesn't mean that we will naturally,

  61. you know, fit things together itself or continue to build itself.

  62. Something needs to happen, right? But, Why am I saying this?

  63. Because we are all saved, right? But he also wants

  64. to build us together. Because otherwise you're just a plank,

  65. a nail, can't think of other materials at the moment,

  66. a brick, etc. And it's not really a complete picture

  67. of how God intended it. So that's how I want

  68. to start off. And the message today, I've titled it

  69. Living Stones. not a person's surname, okay? And it will

  70. make a bit more sense at the end of it, okay?

  71. But I'm also going to start off this series on

  72. the Holy Spirit because actually our whole church is going

  73. through a new, it's like a new series on the

  74. Holy Spirit. So the spiritual temple of the Holy Spirit

  75. is what Living Stones is all about. And again, it

  76. will make sense at the end, all right? So are

  77. you ready? As per usual, I will start at one

  78. main point. Okay, my first main point. Through Jesus, God

  79. is building... us together as living stones. Purposely highlight the

  80. word living stones. A home for His Holy Spirit. Okay?

  81. So as I say, as we begin this series, this

  82. is the main point. So if you don't catch anything,

  83. just write this down. Hopefully you'll be blessed. But I'm

  84. going to share a little bit about how it is

  85. to build the spiritual temple of the Holy Spirit. That means...

  86. Or in simple English, it simply means that we need

  87. to draw near to God together, right? Take our place

  88. because God actually intended us to take that place. And

  89. I felt this is very important to start this framework

  90. before we talk about, you know, who the Holy Spirit

  91. is or what the Holy Spirit can do for you

  92. about deliverance and all that kind of things. I think

  93. all those are good things, but the foundation of this

  94. is important. And if we do not understand where and

  95. why who we are and why the Holy Spirit lives

  96. among us and God's desire to dwell in His people

  97. or with His people, then I think we cannot maximize

  98. our potential as God intended it. Everybody okay so far?

  99. Let's look at text, okay? Let's look at Scripture. I

  100. promise you today's word is going to be very short

  101. because we have a long segment earlier and it's meant

  102. to be a family-friendly service. All right, so let's start.

  103. John 2. And let's read the scriptures up on the screen.

  104. The words in green is something else I put in there.

  105. I'll explain what they are in a bit. But let's

  106. read in John 2. It says here, Jesus has just

  107. challenged the people there. What is actually happening in the temple?

  108. So the religious leader at that time asked him for

  109. a sign of his authority. And this is what he answered.

  110. Let's read John 2. All right. Jesus replied, destroy this temple.

  111. Very strong words, you know. Destroy the temple, you must understand.

  112. What would the people think when they heard Jesus say

  113. destroy the temple? It's exactly what they think, right? What?

  114. They exclaimed, what? And destroy this temple, Naos, not Naomi's

  115. short form, okay? And in three days, I will raise

  116. it up. Just in case you do not know, Naomi

  117. has this short N-A-O-Z, I think. Something like that, okay?

  118. That's a short form, but this is something else. This

  119. is actually a Greek word, all right? And John actually

  120. uses two Greek words. Let me finish reading first, okay?

  121. Destroy this temple, and in three days, I will raise

  122. it up. And they say, what? They exclaim, right? It

  123. has taken 46 years to build this temple. Again, the

  124. word being used here is naos, okay? And you can

  125. rebuild it in three days? Question mark, all right? But

  126. then Jesus said, this temple, he meant his own body.

  127. So very simple scripture. Can be quite deep if you

  128. go deep. So let me just go into my teaching

  129. mode a little bit. Anyway, so the two Greek words

  130. that John has used in describing the temple in this

  131. chapter is two words. One is already shown on the screen.

  132. Second one is actually Hieron. H-I-E-R-O-N is a Greek word. Now,

  133. this is the wider temple complex. And I'll show you

  134. what the temple looks like later on. But naos refers

  135. to the sanctuary or the temple itself, the smallest subset.

  136. So Jesus uses the word naos in the original text.

  137. And it's very clear, at least for us, that Jesus

  138. was speaking about his own body Right? That's why he

  139. says he meant his own body when he talks about

  140. the temple. Right? And we'll draw some similarities later. But obviously,

  141. when we read verse 20, the people there were confused.

  142. The leaders were confused during that time, right? They thought

  143. about the building, the physical temple itself, which they rightfully said,

  144. it took 46 years, you know, to build. It's not

  145. easy or it's not, you know, something that can be

  146. easily reconstructed in three days. What take 40... How many...

  147. Someone who's good at math, 46 multiplied by 365, how

  148. many days is that? Versus three days. One, six, seven,

  149. you know, so many numbers, okay? 5,000 something, okay, anyway.

  150. So when Jesus was talking about it, he was referring

  151. to his resurrected body, right? Not so much the, you know,

  152. the physical temple itself. And he was talking about his

  153. death and his resurrection that we already know. He would destroy, quote-unquote,

  154. his body, the temple. But in three days later, he

  155. will rise again. The new temple will rise again. Now,

  156. so this is where the whole thing begins, right? That

  157. God is trying to illustrate or... rather show the people

  158. that is all centered around jesus himself and to understand

  159. this a bit deeper of course i have some photographs

  160. so they can see so this is what the temple

  161. looks like okay herod's temple or sometimes called the second

  162. temple complex You know, there's many gates. I've just named

  163. some of the more famous gates. So if you don't

  164. know who Herod is, that is sometimes called Herod the Great.

  165. He greatly expanded the temple grounds. Let's just call it

  166. temple grounds for political reasons. Sorry, this thing is flinging

  167. around a little bit. It's a bit heavy. Yeah, so...

  168. because he was actually the ruler of that time, but

  169. he's somewhat not the rightful or the illegitimate leader or

  170. ruler of that time. So he did this to impress

  171. the people that he's ruling, the Jews. So there's this

  172. massive complex to justify his position, or to show off

  173. his position as a Roman ruler over the Jews. So

  174. you look at this temple. It's amazing, right? 46 years

  175. to build, right? But I want to draw your attention

  176. to the temple that has these very unique characteristics, okay?

  177. Do you realize that there's so many walls or divisions

  178. or sections, okay? So one of the things that is

  179. purposely designed for this particular temple is also to have

  180. compartments or to encourage segregation. You know what segregation is, right? Things,

  181. you know, you divide, okay, this category, that category. Of course,

  182. I'm talking about people here. They are all divided based

  183. on different backgrounds, different cultures, gender, etc., The most simple

  184. one is Jews and Gentiles, right? Jews are one place

  185. they can gather. The Gentiles or the Dan-Lion-Lion is another place, okay?

  186. Next slide will give you a better picture. So there's

  187. many sections over there, 1 to 11. Of course, there's

  188. more than that. But I want to draw your attention

  189. to this section here, the Gentiles' courtyard, the one that's outside.

  190. So there's an outer boundary, there's an inner boundary, And

  191. then inside here is exclusive to certain people group, okay?

  192. So access to the inner courts, the inner area, or

  193. the sanctuary is restricted, okay? The Gentiles, like I said,

  194. the others, the non-Jews, were only allowed to hang out

  195. in the Gentiles' courtyard on the outside, okay? They were

  196. not allowed to enter the inner courts, okay? And as

  197. you can see, they have a kind of a wall

  198. on the outside. If you look through scriptures, you can

  199. look through also in Galatians and also in Acts, okay?

  200. You can read through it. But this little barrier, the

  201. little wall that prevents the Gentiles to move in, is

  202. only about 1.3, 1.5 meters tall. Not very tall. A

  203. bit shorter than my height, okay? But It is a

  204. low stone barrier, but it's enough of a barrier to

  205. prevent people from moving to the area they're not supposed

  206. to be in. It's like having little skittles or cones, barriers,

  207. when there is an, I don't know, there's an accident

  208. or you want to channel people to one place. You

  209. know those barriers that cars cannot go in? Yeah, it's

  210. just that high. It's not like massive tall. But people

  211. couldn't cross over. They know not to do that. And

  212. it's just a place that marks, this is where you're

  213. not supposed to be, etc. So the temple, again, Neos,

  214. that I mentioned earlier, is actually confined or they only

  215. allowed Jews to go in. And then there were other things,

  216. some more weird things. You see there, women's courtyard number nine.

  217. I'm so sorry, it's very small, but here. This is

  218. the women's courtyard. So gender, even when you get in,

  219. only certain specific people can go further in. So there's

  220. the distinction between male and female. There were, if you

  221. look carefully, number five over there is actually the lepers,

  222. what do you call it, the lepers, the chamber of lepers.

  223. You know what lepers are? It's a disease during that time,

  224. all right? So the unclean or the outcast, they hang

  225. around number five area, all right? And only one person,

  226. the holy priest, goes to number one. They call it

  227. the holy place or sometimes called the most holy place.

  228. And they go in there once a year. Once a year.

  229. So everybody, that line definitely nowhere close. Those different, let's

  230. just say hierarchy will get closer, but only one goes

  231. to the holy place. place. Okay? So just want to

  232. paint the picture. Because sometimes when we read the scripture,

  233. we're like, oh, you know, a temple, you know, tear

  234. down the temple, destroy the temple rather, and then rebuild

  235. the temple. We don't really see all this different perspective

  236. and aspects of it. I encourage you to go deeper

  237. if you wanted to. But essentially, the temple itself reminded

  238. people that God was holy. That's one. And sinful people

  239. cannot just stroll into His presence. Even if you are clean,

  240. if you are of a different gender, you cannot stroll

  241. into His presence also. And even if you are of

  242. the correct gender and you are not a leper and

  243. then you are higher ranking, you still cannot go into

  244. His presence fully because only one person can do it.

  245. That was what it's like in the past. And this is...

  246. But you must understand our God, what's His desire? He

  247. desires for us to dwell with Him. So how is

  248. this to happen with all this quote-unquote red tape, different barriers?

  249. F1 just started, I mean, just happened a few days ago.

  250. There's some people who can go to the box and

  251. some people are just like in the rain outside, etc. Yeah,

  252. there's all these different compartments. So this is what Jesus

  253. was encountering when he came, right? By the time he

  254. came in the first century, the Jewish traditions or the system,

  255. let's just call it loosely speaking like the Jewish religious system,

  256. has evolved to this. Has evolved to this where I

  257. don't think it was God's intended initial plan, but it's

  258. come to this.

  259. Okay?

  260. Okay? So you must understand what he has to, quote-unquote,

  261. battle as well. Because right from the beginning, even in

  262. the tabernacle of Moses, it started to become a bit

  263. more exclusive like this. And that for people to have

  264. a close relationship with Jesus or with God, it takes

  265. a lot. It takes a lot. All right? So, of course,

  266. as with any systems, corruption will creep in. you can

  267. also buy your way or buy your access into certain things.

  268. And we've seen that in the biblical sense, a lot

  269. of corruption of power, you know, also allowing people to

  270. bypass certain, you know, certain protocols, etc. So Jesus came,

  271. uses the strong word destroy because he wanted to destroy

  272. this entire system and almost like reset, reset what he wanted.

  273. And When I say destroying the physical temple, people are like,

  274. you just sent a nuke to bomb it. No, no, no.

  275. It's not just that. He is referring to his own body,

  276. his death. It represents the current. And three days later,

  277. he will rise up again and rebuild through the resurrection

  278. a new temple. What is this temple? This temple is

  279. not a physical temple per se. It is a spiritual temple.

  280. Everybody okay so far? Okay. Too deep? No? Actually, okay, right? Can, right? Can, right? Okay.

  281. All right. So, why and how did he do that?

  282. Or why did he do that? Because Jesus, number one,

  283. he's our great priest. I'll read the scriptures later. And two,

  284. he's actually creating this spiritual temple by offering himself for

  285. our sins. And Hebrews, which is the scripture I'll read

  286. after this, explains this very beautifully. So if you'd like

  287. to take notes, you can. Christ as the eternal high

  288. priest is the next point. And then it will also

  289. be a once and for all kind of sacrifice. Now

  290. let's look at Hebrews 10. Let's read this. Under the

  291. old covenant, the priests... and saints and ministers before the

  292. altar after a day offering the same sacrifices again and again,

  293. which can never take away sins. So here it tells you, right,

  294. even though the ritual is like so, it still cannot

  295. take away wash away all sins or take away all sins.

  296. Number 12, verse 12. Our high priest, this is Jesus

  297. that they're referring to, offered himself to God. I want

  298. you to focus on this word as a single sacrifice

  299. for sins. Good for all time. Single, one sacrifice and

  300. good for all time. All right. Then he sat down

  301. in the place of honour at God's right hand. There

  302. he waits until his enemies are humbled and made a

  303. footstool under his feet. For by that, again, one offering, singular,

  304. he forever made perfect. I'll explain what the original word

  305. is being used. Those who are being made holy. So

  306. before I go into... describe all those words, notice the contrast.

  307. You notice the contrast? Under the old covenant, the priest,

  308. as we described earlier, stood and offered sacrifices again and

  309. again and again and again and again until the end

  310. of time. Right? Then Jesus, our high priest, offered himself once. Sekali, once. Okay?

  311. And then he sat down, you know, at God's right hand.

  312. That's it. The sacrifice doesn't have to be repeated. Once

  313. is sufficient. So powerful. Once, right? So, I draw your

  314. attention to 14, Hebrews 14. For by that one offering,

  315. He forever made perfect those who are being made holy. Now,

  316. the word perfect in our English language is very limited.

  317. And that's why I'm going to teach you a new word.

  318. It's called T-E-L-E-I-O-O. Okay. Now, how you pronounce that, I've

  319. looked it up. How do you think it's pronounced? T-E-L-E-I-O, right? No, no, no, no, no.

  320. It's not. It's pronounced T-E-L-E-I-O-O. You say O-O twice. Yeah. O-H-O-H. Twice.

  321. But the first part is correct. T-E-L-E-I-O-O. Okay. Which means,

  322. in its original language, it means bring to completion. Meaning,

  323. it is finished. It is made complete. Sometimes our word

  324. made perfect is very limited. Completion and perfect is different.

  325. But sometimes you read perfect or high score 99.9 over 100,

  326. that's almost perfect. But notice completion completion. Okay? In other words,

  327. it is done. Just like we read earlier, it is done.

  328. Once and for all, done. And that's why once is enough.

  329. Because done is done, right? You cannot do things that's

  330. already done again. And that's why sometimes we need to

  331. go to the original word to understand why it is

  332. perfect in a sense. Because it is done. It's done, guys.

  333. It does not have to be repeated. Again and again

  334. in the temple, where the high priest, you know, go

  335. once in a year and do his thing, all the

  336. rituals and all that. No, no, no, no. You don't

  337. have to do that to enter His presence anymore. It's

  338. already done. But of course, we also have to remind ourselves, okay,

  339. it doesn't mean that Christians will never sin from here on.

  340. We no longer need to grow, you know, oh, we're

  341. done already, you know, like He's finished it for us.

  342. So therefore, I can... waste my life away or whatever

  343. it is, you know. It's not. You must understand, it's not. Why?

  344. Because the second part is important. So that we are

  345. continuously made holy. Job is done, yes, but we still

  346. have to do our part. That's why the next verse

  347. is important. That means we are continually changing. We are

  348. continually also, quote-unquote, doing our part, okay? And that's a reminder. Why?

  349. Because we are being made holy, right? His sacrifice is complete.

  350. And this is why in the next verse, we read

  351. about how we are to do it. And the next

  352. verse actually talks about the Holy Spirit, right? Sometimes you

  353. think the Holy Spirit is like, it's like an airy-fairy

  354. kind of a thing, you know, the chills. No, no, no.

  355. Holy Spirit is a person. He was sent for us today.

  356. to continue to change us, right? And that's why in

  357. verse 15, I'll read the scripture here, okay? And the

  358. Holy Spirit also testifies that this is so. So the

  359. Holy Spirit is agreeing. Yes, I agree. Yes, right? Well,

  360. he says here, this is the new covenant I will

  361. make with my people. On that day, says the Lord,

  362. I will put my laws in their hearts. I will

  363. write them on their minds. Then he says, I will

  364. never again remember their sins and lawless deeds. Okay? So,

  365. the Spirit testifies. God promises to write His laws on

  366. the people's hearts, right? And forgive their sins. And the

  367. Spirit testifies. And verse 18, it concludes by saying that

  368. sins have been forgiven. It says here, when sins have

  369. been forgiven, there is no need to offer any more sacrifice.

  370. So essentially, the Holy Spirit is saying, I concur. I agree.

  371. What's done is done. Don't need to have additional. And

  372. that's why, back to what we read earlier, one, cukup, enough, complete, completion. Perfect, okay?

  373. Why is this important? Because sometimes we think, oh, we

  374. can get busier with what we do, whether it is

  375. even doing God's work, and thinking that that would help us,

  376. you know, reach, you know, what we're supposed to reach. No.

  377. He already said this here. It's already done. It's already done.

  378. We cannot already add. If I can say this, we

  379. cannot already add to what has already been completed. Perfect.

  380. Nothing you can do to add to this. It's finished.

  381. So this is actually a beautiful picture. It's not all

  382. doom and gloom. It's actually a beautiful picture. Why? Because

  383. it's also a picture of the whole triune. the Father, Son,

  384. and Holy Spirit working together, right? They're all in agreement.

  385. Why did I say that? It's because Jesus, the Son

  386. of God, was offered by Father God as the perfect sacrifice,

  387. as we've read. At the same time, He shed His blood, right?

  388. And of course, He then becomes the eternal High Priest, right? Eternal,

  389. the key word. It means forever and ever. Not just

  390. the one person once a year kind of thing. And

  391. he offered this sacrifice in the very presence of God

  392. the Father. It's not just simply offering to nobody. It's

  393. actually God the Father. Right? And then we see the

  394. Holy Spirit right here coming in and say, I testify.

  395. What does it actually mean? He... Essentially, He is reinstating,

  396. the Holy Spirit is reinstating the original design with a

  397. new covenant. What's the original design? God wants to dwell

  398. with us. He wants to, that's the Holy Spirit, wants

  399. to restore this. When it says He here, right, it's

  400. actually the Holy Spirit saying, you know, not Jesus, not

  401. Father God, the Holy Spirit is saying, let's start a

  402. new covenant. You see how powerful this is? Sometimes we

  403. just don't really... See this. So yes, Jesus offered a

  404. sufficient sacrifice to complete what he has to complete. But

  405. our obedience still matters, guys. Still matters, right? Because it

  406. is our response to that grace. Because we know grace

  407. cannot be purchased, right? And this is why we want

  408. to continue to serve. We want to continue to do

  409. what we do because we've received grace. from God. We

  410. don't serve to persuade Him. We serve because it's already

  411. complete anyway, but we still want to be obedient because

  412. God has received us.

  413. Amen?

  414. Okay. Too heavy?

  415. Okay.

  416. Let's move on. Hebrews 10. Let's read the other verses. 19.

  417. I'll probably stop at verse 20, okay? Let's read on.

  418. And so, dear brothers and sisters, we can boldly enter

  419. heaven's most holy place. This is the one, if you

  420. saw the picture earlier, it's the exclusive place up in

  421. the mountain, not the mountain top, but the very top

  422. of the temple. because of the blood of Jesus. And

  423. verse 26 says, by his death, Jesus opened, let me

  424. read this, a new and life-giving way through the curtain

  425. into the most holy place. Now, this is actually an invitation, right?

  426. Because of the blood of Jesus, we can then boldly

  427. enter confidently enter. Enter where? Into His presence. Now we

  428. sung entering His presence, we can boldly and confidently enter

  429. His presence. Why? Because of the blood. Jesus opened a

  430. new life-giving way. Remember this word curtain here, what does

  431. it actually represent? Right? Remember the curtain that was separating

  432. the holy place, the most holy place, You can look

  433. it up in Matthew 27. It tells us that when

  434. Jesus died, the curtain tore. Remember that curtain? This is

  435. the same curtain. It was torn in two. That means

  436. it signifies that when that happens, the segregation or the

  437. division to actually enter to the presence is gone. So

  438. it's already pre-empting what is to happen. So Hebrews here

  439. is alignment. It points us to the excess of to

  440. Christ that we have through His death. So our confidence

  441. really lies on the blood of Jesus. We don't have

  442. to wait to feel that we have enough. We don't

  443. have to be spiritually, some people will say, oh, I

  444. need to do this and that. And a lot of,

  445. maybe perhaps, very loosely using this expression, a lot of

  446. religions teach you that you can do a lot of

  447. things before you can. be accepted. But no, he says here,

  448. you're spiritually enough to come to him. That is the

  449. grace that he's talking about. So let's read on. 21.

  450. And since we have a great high priest who rules

  451. over God's house, let us go right into the presence

  452. of God with sincere hearts, trusting him, fully trusting him

  453. for our guilt Sorry, for our guilty conscience have been

  454. sprinkled with Christ's blood to make us clean and our

  455. bodies have been washed with pure water. So what does

  456. God ask us to do? The instructions are in verses

  457. 21 to 22. We are to what? Draw near. Simple

  458. English is draw near. Come close. Come. With what? Again,

  459. highlighted all the words already. With sincere hearts. What is

  460. sincere hearts? Just full trust. Fully trusting you. And again,

  461. this is important because sometimes perhaps you came here today

  462. and you're thinking, man, I failed again. I dropped the

  463. ball again. And therefore, I should keep my distance from

  464. the Lord. No. No. Church, we fail all the time.

  465. Myself included. But we need to come to God with honesty.

  466. Of course, confess our sins and then trust His mercy.

  467. Trust His grace. Hiding won't make us clean, by the way.

  468. You think that because you cannot face Him, because you sin,

  469. then you hide. That doesn't do anything. Right? Hiding doesn't

  470. solve anything. But understand and recognize that Jesus can. And

  471. that's why in verse 22, you see verse 22 is

  472. so powerful. It says, sprinkled with Christ's blood. Just a sprinkle. Again,

  473. it doesn't mean that the sins will be all gone.

  474. but you are liberated, your conscience is clear. You don't

  475. feel guilty anymore. Sometimes I think the sin itself, of

  476. course it can be bad, but the guilt that follows

  477. that sin makes it even worse. That means you live

  478. feeling ashamed, feeling that you can't do this just because

  479. of the boo-boo that you did. So actually that's why

  480. it's important, the guilty conscience is actually more important that

  481. you're liberated from it. Yes, what's done is done. But

  482. your guilt will be okay. Just a sprinkle of the blood.

  483. A little bit. Enough. It's just like MSG. Elevate, right?

  484. I'm not condoning MSG, but anyway. Yeah. But grace does

  485. not mean, again, you no longer have to make choices

  486. in life anymore. Right? No longer that we autopilot, okay,

  487. I'm a robot now. Yeah. I'm saved. No. No. It

  488. just reminds us that we can stop hiding, just come forward,

  489. respond to Him with an honest heart, and that's it.

  490. The Spirit will do His thing, will help us change.

  491. So this afternoon, right, really is an invitation from this

  492. perspective that as a spiritual temple of the Holy Spirit,

  493. of course, God is saying, come. Come. Draw near to Him.

  494. Draw near to Him. And you're coming to the Father

  495. through His Son. And you can go right and sit

  496. on His lap. Literally. Right? Draw. Because you can be

  497. really going to His presence. And that's very powerful. And

  498. all it takes is just a sincere heart. No... Yeah.

  499. And it's beautiful because... Why sincere hearts? Because God is

  500. after our hearts, right? He's not after our mind. Sometimes

  501. you think He's after our mind. He wants to intellectually

  502. convert you. No. He's after the heart. And so sometimes

  503. I feel that some people when they are, maybe those

  504. people who think too much, not saying thinking is not good,

  505. but think with your heart also. Yeah. Okay. Just trust

  506. me in that, okay? But yeah, it's after our hearts.

  507. Because it's the heart that you can give over to Jesus.

  508. Why is it important? Because then, only then, He can

  509. fulfill the purposes He has for you. And what we're

  510. doing here, we're continually building the spiritual temple. Not the

  511. physical temple, but the spiritual temple. So my next point is,

  512. the church can act as a spiritual temple of the

  513. Holy Spirit And when I say church, again, not these

  514. four walls. Every one of us is the church. The

  515. people is the church. Let's move on to Paul, okay?

  516. He takes this a bit further. Let's read 1 Corinthians.

  517. Everybody okay so far? Right? In 1 Corinthians 3.16, it

  518. says here, Don't you realize that all of you together

  519. are the temple of God? See, same reference. All of you.

  520. and that the Spirit of God lives in you. This

  521. is the Holy Spirit. 17. God will destroy anyone who

  522. destroys this temple, for God's temple is holy and you

  523. are that temple. Again, this is a reminder that we

  524. are that spiritual temple. Not church, not 130 service, not

  525. X church, not the church next door, not the churches

  526. in Malaysia. No, you are the spiritual temple. And notice

  527. these words here. Let me just add some more colour

  528. to it. The words all together is addressing the church.

  529. Paul's addressing the church. And the you here is plural.

  530. All of you.

  531. You, you, you, you, you.

  532. I think about 60, 70, 80 of us here. Yeah, you.

  533. You are the church and you make that one singular temple.

  534. And that's important. And that's why we have this unity.

  535. As believers, we are united as one. Many people make

  536. one temple, collectively. Right? So the church has the spirit

  537. temple of the Holy Spirit. And this is amazing if

  538. you think about it, right? Because in the historical temple,

  539. it's only one geographical temple. Now it's everywhere. Amazing, right?

  540. So what Jesus did, right, was like, So that means

  541. the person next to you is also part of God

  542. building the one temple, the one spiritual temple. Yeah? So

  543. we cannot celebrate by being God's temple by treating your

  544. neighbour as this guy, not important. Because that person is

  545. also part of the temple. And that's what verse 17

  546. warns us. A serious warning. If you destroy God's temple...

  547. It's akin to like, yeah, this guy cannot, not part

  548. of it, not part of the plan. No. He reminds us,

  549. Paul reminds us that this community belongs to God and

  550. therefore is holy. So yes, I know disagreements and all that,

  551. that's all fine. But understand, we are all part of

  552. this quote-unquote building project. Okay?

  553. Why?

  554. Because the Spirit dwells in us. It's among His people.

  555. It's among you, you, everybody is named. It's not only

  556. when Pastor Kenneth is here or some leader, he said, no, no, no,

  557. every one of you carries that. So again, as I

  558. started earlier, we're not a building. We are not a collection.

  559. We thank God for a community, yes, but the Spirit

  560. dwells in the people, you and I. So even as

  561. we gather in homes or gather and serve together in

  562. the church, in your workplace, in your schools, in your colleges,

  563. in your pickleball community, I don't know, whatever. Remember. You know,

  564. venue is not important. The different demographics are not important,

  565. but you are important. Okay? So, coming to 1st November,

  566. that's why it's okay to meet together in a smaller setting. Again,

  567. free plug, huh? Alright, last point and then I'll end here. Alright?

  568. Living stones and a royal priesthood is my last point.

  569. So as we move on, let's read 1 Peter 2, 4-5.

  570. I'm reading from an NLT version. Peter, he gives us

  571. a different picture. Alright? The title is Living Stones for

  572. God's House and that's why this title of this message

  573. is Living Stones, okay? You are coming to Christ who

  574. is the living cornerstone. I think I shared about cornerstone before, right?

  575. But Just to understand that it's not just any cornerstone,

  576. it's a living cornerstone of God's temple. He was rejected

  577. by people, but he was chosen by God for great honour.

  578. Verse 5, And you are living stones that God is

  579. building into his spiritual temple. What's more, you are his

  580. holy priests. Through meditation of Jesus, you offer spiritual sacrifices

  581. that please God. So again, Peter gives a different perspective. First,

  582. we come to Christ, the living cornerstone, right? And then

  583. God builds us. He said the materials are ordered. They

  584. may come from different suppliers. They come together in the

  585. one place. But the living stones are the ones that

  586. need to be put together to shape the big overarching

  587. living spiritual temple. Jesus is a cornerstone, guys. He determines

  588. the shape of the building, yes. We belong to him,

  589. and that's why it's important to understand our identity in him.

  590. Before we can find our place in a team, in

  591. a small group, in a dream team, etc., we need

  592. to understand that the cornerstone is there. I shared once

  593. that last time I tried to be a carpenter, I

  594. tried to fix a fence. I started off here, then I...

  595. Like that. In Australia, everything is expensive, so we just

  596. have to do things our own now. My wife came out,

  597. how come the thing like that? Because I started off correct,

  598. but I forgot to look at the cornerstone. Over time,

  599. my fence was crooked. It's always important to check back, guys.

  600. Sometimes we go autopilot, right? And we forget. So, what

  601. am I trying to say here? We are living stones.

  602. God made us alive in Christ. He's fitting us together, yes.

  603. And a stone lying by itself, right, cannot be a house.

  604. You catch that? A brick, a wood, a plank, a

  605. nail on its own is not a house. In the

  606. same way, we also need relationships to grow. That's why, yes,

  607. church is messy, life is messy, etc. But we know

  608. when we receive care, when we grow, when we encourage

  609. each other, that is part of building. If you do

  610. bigger projects, like some of us, bigger construction, it's always

  611. going to be messy. Yeah. Nothing goes according to plan. Delays, deliveries.

  612. Like I said, let's be living stones, right? Not rolling stones.

  613. Different generation. Just in case for those, the reference for

  614. those who are younger, the Rolling Stones is a band

  615. in the 60s, I think, a UK band. I think

  616. you might know Mick Jagger, right? Yeah, that's the Rolling Stones. Okay,

  617. little joke there, but Yeah, I'm not inviting you to

  618. become Rolling Stones. Okay, anyway. Don't spend your whole Christian

  619. life waiting for the perfect church. That's what I'm trying

  620. to say here. There will be no such thing. No

  621. perfect church. Every church has imperfect people, us included, right?

  622. But this is probably what I want to challenge you.

  623. Maybe you need to ask God, is He providing you

  624. an opportunity right now to be a living stone? where

  625. your place. Again, the products are all there already. Just

  626. got to work together all this to make it work.

  627. Yeah.

  628. And you know what, guys? Church, like I said, it's messy, but,

  629. you know, commitment gives us chance to learn from each other.

  630. Once you say yes, you decide, you commit. I think

  631. you talked about commitment, right, Charles, or rather saying, boldly

  632. saying yes, right? Commitment actually gives opportunity to learn patience.

  633. God is teaching you patience, right? Um, working through disagreements

  634. is also part of growing. Loving people that is less

  635. difficult to love, right, is also, or loving people that

  636. is different from us is also part of, you know,

  637. putting stones together, living stones together. And let me just

  638. quickly say that it doesn't mean that you need to

  639. tolerate abuse, right? We say that if you're in an

  640. abusive kind of relationship, even in the church, come and

  641. talk to me. Let's straighten that out. But it doesn't

  642. mean that you just give up straight away. If that hurts, yes,

  643. we can talk about it. But let's continue to decide

  644. to want to grow together. Because actually it takes courage

  645. to commit.

  646. Right?

  647. You know, many years ago when our church is going

  648. to this whole let's grow small to grow big kind

  649. of thing, people don't like that. Why? Because when we're small,

  650. we have to commit.

  651. Right?

  652. Because, yeah, just like how I always illustrate this at home,

  653. when my wife is away, less one person, then the

  654. three of us have to then do the job of four.

  655. Right?

  656. So, therefore, sometimes the kids leave some things unwashed because

  657. I'll be doing other things. Yeah. So, things like that,

  658. you just need to understand you have to commit to it.

  659. And this is my last point, right? Why do I

  660. say it takes courage to commit? Why? Because it's next slide.

  661. For you are a chosen people. 1 Peter 2.9 says,

  662. you are a royal priesthood. Let me just highlight the

  663. word royal. King. Priesthood. A holy nation. God's very own possession.

  664. Peter calls us a royal priesthood, guys. So, a bit

  665. of background. As you know, in the Old Testament, there

  666. was a lot of lineage, right? You know, the lineage

  667. of the priests. Let's use the word priest, right? The

  668. original lineage traced to Levi and Aaron, the high priests.

  669. Do you know that Jesus didn't come from that lineage? Right? Surprise! Yeah.

  670. He didn't come from the tribe of Levi. Right? He

  671. came from the tribe of Judah. Judah. In other words, God,

  672. through Jesus Christ, has now created a new ability or

  673. a new priesthood that is perfect. The word perfect is

  674. complete again. That once and for all, let's say that

  675. everybody has success. So through Jesus, every believer now has

  676. a part to play. in the spiritual sacrifice that pleases God. So,

  677. it doesn't mean that, oh, just because somebody else is

  678. doing it, I'm done. No, we are all part of it.

  679. We are all called to be as a royal priesthood.

  680. And I'm inviting you to be royal priests. Take up

  681. that royal priesthood. What does it mean? Don't be a

  682. spectator lah. Very easy to comment, right? Hey, how come

  683. the guy cannot kick the ball properly? Cannot kick the

  684. ball straight, you know? Don't be that, you know? Don't

  685. be an observer, right? You are a kingly priest, guys.

  686. kingly priest royal priest I don't know King Charles kind

  687. of material I don't know yeah but that's who you

  688. are a kingly priest sometimes you forget that and we

  689. behave like slavely priest I don't know you know Because

  690. we come to church, sometimes thinking, I'll just watch and observe. Yeah. Yeah.

  691. But hey guys, you're living stones, guys. Not rolling stones.

  692. Living stones. Right? And what does it mean? We offer praise.

  693. We offer prayer. We serve one another. We tell people

  694. what God has done through the Spirit. This is a calling.

  695. not just for the select few, it's a calling for all.

  696. You read the scriptures today, right? All of you, plural.

  697. Not just a select few. Not just the guy holding

  698. the microphone and just babbling away over here. Everybody is involved.

  699. Think about where God has placed you during the week,

  700. outside of Sunday, right? You are that royal priest. Your workplace,

  701. your family, your neighbourhood, your schools, your colleges, etc., etc.

  702. You have to work through His people because you are

  703. placed by Him and also you are working together by

  704. His Spirit. So depend on that Spirit. Depend on that power, right?

  705. Because you are carefully fitted into that spiritual temple. And again,

  706. keyword is living. Not like a material, like it has

  707. no life. Living. Living means dynamic. This whole year, we

  708. talked about revival. If you are previously a dead stone,

  709. let's make sure you remember you're a living stone. Right?

  710. Not static. Not static at all. And then God is

  711. able to do exceedingly, more abundantly through us as long

  712. as we Remember where we are, what we are and

  713. who we are. And as I said earlier just now,

  714. you remember the old model? When Christ was around, it

  715. was quite limiting actually, you think about it. Again, not

  716. saying that it was not powerful. It's quite limiting.

  717. Why?

  718. Because Jesus himself was confined to a one specific geographical location,

  719. that physical church. He primarily ministered in that region in

  720. the Middle East. That's it. But now, through the Holy Spirit,

  721. He has actually created a spiritual temple that consists of

  722. all of us living, whether you are in Africa, whether

  723. you are in North America, whether you are in Indonesia, wherever.

  724. It doesn't matter. All those who are living, you have access,

  725. you have influence. As I said earlier, your schools, your

  726. pickleball clubs, whatever. The impact is so much greater than

  727. even Jesus' influence. again, can do. I'm not downplaying what

  728. Jesus can do, but it was limited by physical tempo.

  729. So yeah, if you didn't catch all that, yeah, it's

  730. more than just being an observer. Okay, let's do our part.

  731. So the question is, how will we respond? And I'm

  732. ending here already. Next slide I have. Rolling stones, not

  733. rolling stones. But firstly, to keep you guys awake, all right,

  734. let's bring it home. All right. Some of us may

  735. need to receive Christ's gift of grace. We do not

  736. maybe fully understand what that gift is. Some of us

  737. may need to take a step towards belonging and serving

  738. so that we can continuously or collectively build this spiritual temple,

  739. which is not bound by geography or location. Or some

  740. of us may need to draw close to him again

  741. because that's his desire. That's why he started this whole

  742. big plan, right? So that he can draw to cut

  743. all the red tape. Perhaps you think I'm not qualified.

  744. Not there yet. Maybe I don't have the experience. Some

  745. people are like, oh, I know I cannot do this

  746. because I have no experience. Hey, remember, let me think.

  747. I was a graduate many years ago, meaning you're also

  748. a graduate, right? Once you graduate, what happens after you

  749. finish your degree? You have the qualification to be an accountant,

  750. to be an engineer, etc. But maybe there's still much

  751. to learn. You have no experience yet. But you can

  752. go on with that qualification to do. And church is

  753. a little bit like that as well. Yeah, you download

  754. a little bit, but the experience comes from the learning,

  755. the trying, the serving. It's a life of service. You

  756. can't get experience by just, you know, don't get me wrong,

  757. reading the word is good, but yeah, serve. Do your part.

  758. You gain experience by participating. You train or you learn

  759. on the job. Parents as well, you know. You can

  760. read all you want. I'm still learning. After, you know,

  761. I've got a teenager now, 15. Still learning. Right? Just participate.

  762. What I'm trying to say is that you do not

  763. need to know everything before you take the first step.

  764. Take that first step. Of course, there'll be guidance, there'll

  765. be training, there'll be growth along the way. There will

  766. be different ones that will support you to grow in

  767. that maturity, yes. But ultimately, you have to want to
