  1. Welcome to NECF sermons. Each message here is

  2. designed to uplift and strengthen you in your

  3. walk with God. Don't miss out. Stay with us until

  4. the end for a rewarding experience. Let's dive

  5. right in. As you are sitting down, just to your

  6. left and right, just extend a hand and welcome

  7. your brother. Say, brother, you're welcome to

  8. church. Sister, you're welcome to church. Hallelujah.

  9. And when we were praying, there was something

  10. that we prayed for that is very important. We

  11. sang a song about God as a father. And one of

  12. the revelations that we need oftentimes is the

  13. revelation of God as a father, as our father.

  14. Because the revelation of God as father will

  15. go a long way in solving many of the anxieties

  16. that we have and that we experience in our day

  17. -to -day life. Sometimes we forget that God is

  18. father to us. And the picture of the father that

  19. you have in your mind, maybe you come from a

  20. home that you probably didn't have your father

  21. present. So when you hear the word father, there

  22. is a misunderstanding of what fatherhood is.

  23. But through the scriptures, we see the clarity

  24. of God's fatherhood. Hallelujah. Our biological

  25. parents are not the standard for fatherhood.

  26. All right? God is a standard for fatherhood.

  27. Our parents in their earthly dealings with us

  28. may fail in their responsibilities as men, but

  29. God is a God that is faithful to his children.

  30. And I'm speaking to somebody this morning. Regardless

  31. of where you are, God is your father. Hallelujah.

  32. And he's able to meet all your needs because

  33. he's a responsible father. So what should be

  34. stayed up in your heart this morning is faith.

  35. The clarity, the revelation you should have this

  36. morning is the fatherhood of God in your life.

  37. Hallelujah. So not only that God is our father,

  38. but all Christians, all of us are children of

  39. God. Amen. We are children of God. So our faith.

  40. is a family matter. All right? When we become

  41. Christians, we are brought into a family. Now,

  42. when I speak of family, again, some of us might

  43. have come from families that everybody is on

  44. his own. You know, when we look at you and we

  45. look at your experience, your actions towards

  46. your brothers and sisters, even in church, oftentimes

  47. a reflection of where we are coming from and

  48. the things we've experienced, even from family.

  49. But the word of God... Gives us the clarity of

  50. the kind of family that we are in. Hallelujah.

  51. The kind of family that is not like our imperfect

  52. families. It's a spiritual family. And God is

  53. a father of that family. The idea of God's family

  54. is perfection. Even though individually as men.

  55. In our dealings, in our work with one another.

  56. We may see. some degrees of imperfection in our

  57. dealings. So by the grace of God, in this era,

  58. in this season, I will be leading us through

  59. a teaching that will help us. Oftentimes every

  60. year, you know, it's mandatory that in church

  61. we teach the issue of love. It's mandatory. It's

  62. our, it's like a necessity in the church that

  63. we explain the issue of love. Because that is

  64. the culture of this family. That is the culture

  65. of the family that we've been born into. Without

  66. the understanding of love, without a proper understanding

  67. of what God has done for us is actually love.

  68. And how we ought to, you know, love one another,

  69. it's impossible for us to enjoy the benefits

  70. of the family that we have. So the topic is walking

  71. in love through words that edify. Walking in

  72. love through words. Words that edify. And this

  73. will be like a kind of a foundation for what

  74. we will be dealing with in some few sessions

  75. coming up later. So let's turn to Ephesians chapter

    Ephesians 4 chapter mention

  76. 4. Having laid a foundation that God is our father

  77. and God is not learning fatherhood from our biological

  78. fathers. And the example of fatherhood we should

  79. look for is how God has demonstrated his love

  80. to us. And we also... are equally members one

  81. another of God's family. And a perfect, you know,

  82. example of what a family should be is what God

  83. has expressed to us in his word. Ephesians 4,

    Ephesians 4:25

  84. verse 25. I'll read down to the last verse in

  85. that chapter. Therefore, putting away lying,

  86. let each one of you speak truth with his neighbor.

  87. For we are members of what? Of one another. Hallelujah.

  88. So we are members of one another. We are members

  89. of one another. Be angry and do not sin. Do not

  90. let the sun to go down on your wrath. No grief

  91. plays to the devil. Let him who steal. No longer.

  92. Steal no longer. But rather let him labor. Working

  93. with his hand. That what is good. That he. may

  94. have something to give to him who has need. Let

  95. no corrupt words proceed out of your mouth, but

  96. what is good for necessary edification that it

  97. may impart grace to the hearers. And do not grieve

  98. the Holy Spirit of God by whom you were sealed

  99. for the day of redemption because every believer

  100. is sealed by the Spirit of God. There is a seal

  101. of God on every man that has believed in the

  102. gospel and the seal of this is the Spirit of

  103. God. And we ought to, you know, walk in love

  104. so as not to grieve the Holy Spirit. So it says

  105. 30, and do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God

  106. by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.

  107. Let all bitterness, wrath, So God is calling

  108. us into something that he himself has done. That

  109. in Christ, he has forgiven us all our trespasses.

  110. So we equally, as a response to the life that

  111. he has put in us. are able to extend the same

  112. love which God has loved us. Hallelujah. So that

  113. is a culture and that is a life that God is calling

  114. us to. Walking in love. But especially, especially,

  115. especially, our concentration is through the

  116. words we speak to one another. So the background

  117. is from the last teaching we had from the words

  118. of faith. The last time I was here teaching us,

  119. I was teaching us about the words of faith. And

  120. I said in our previous teaching that we learn

  121. from the previous thing that faith is expressed

  122. through the heart or faith is found in the heart

  123. and can be seen in our conduct and also in the

  124. words which we speak. And then, of course, we

  125. read Romans 10, verse 8 to 10. And James chapter

    Romans 10:8–10 James 2:7–18

  126. 2 verse 7 to 18 that speaks about love not only

  127. being in words, you know, not only faith, you

  128. know, it's not only in the heart but it's seen

  129. in action, right? And we say that our words reveal

  130. what fills our hearts. Matthew chapter 12 verse

    Matthew 12:34

  131. 34 and 35. Give me that text. Matthew 12 verse

    Matthew 12:34

  132. 34 and 35. Just to remind us of where we are

  133. coming from. Matthew 12 verse 34 and 35. It says,

    Matthew 12:34

  134. Brood of vipers, how can you, being evil, speak

  135. good things? Now, this is not talking about believers

  136. here. There's a certain people that Jesus has

  137. been hushed and had to. And they are called Pharisees

  138. and Sadducees. You know, the teachers of the

  139. law who, you know, for the sake of their own

  140. reasons, are not following the truth of the gospel.

  141. So, for out of the abundance of their hearts,

  142. what happened? The mouth speaks. Alright? So,

  143. out of the abundance of our hearts, It's expected

  144. that our mouth should speak. And if we have the

  145. fullness of God in us, in our hearts, so out

  146. of the abundance of the God that we have in our

  147. hearts, our mouth should express words. Verse

  148. 35. A good man out of a good treasure of his

  149. heart brings forth good things, and an evil man

  150. out of the evil treasure brings forth evil things.

  151. And we are not evil people. We are good people.

  152. Hallelujah. So we can express either doubt through

  153. our words or, you know, faith. We've explained

  154. this in the last teachings. We also learned that

  155. believers' confession must agree with God's word.

  156. Therefore, this word of God that we have must

  157. dwell richly in our heart, shaping our thoughts,

  158. our confessions, and our conduct. And Jesus went

  159. on. We saw that Jesus went on. to teach about

  160. the importance of believing. As a man believes,

  161. he speaks, and then we see the result of the

  162. things we speak. Mark chapter 11, verse 22 and

    Mark 11:22

  163. 23. However, the use of words extends beyond

  164. just confessing God's word, his promises for

  165. our lives. Hallelujah. We establish the power

  166. of words in our last teaching. And the power

  167. of our words, which of course are inspired by

  168. the word of God, The power of confession of which

  169. we are confessing the word of God is beyond just

  170. confessing God's promises and gaining what? And

  171. gaining the blessings that are in the word. Okay?

  172. Our speech towards other believers must also

  173. reflect the faith that we have in Christ. Because

  174. the power of your words is not only in claiming

  175. the promises of God. The power of your words

  176. is not only in... You know, believing God for

  177. miracles to happen or to do miracles. The power

  178. of God's word on your lips is not only, but it's

  179. inclusive, but it's not only in preaching the

  180. gospel. Just as faith finds expression through

  181. our words, love must also find expression through

  182. our words. Now let's see some wisdom from King

  183. Solomon about how words we speak. Can impact

  184. the life of others. Let's see in Proverbs. Some

  185. wisdom from Solomon. How words we speak. The

  186. words we speak. Can have impact on other people

  187. around us. Proverbs 10 verse 11. Give me Proverbs

    Proverbs 10:11 Proverbs 10:11

  188. 10 verse 11 quickly. We'll move faster from here.

  189. Proverbs 10 verse 11. It says the mouth of the

    Proverbs 10:11

  190. righteous. Is a well of life. Who is a righteous

  191. man? A righteous man speaks of a believer. Right?

  192. The mouth of a righteous man is talking about

  193. the words that comes out from the mouth of a

  194. righteous man is what? It's a well of life. But

  195. violence covers the mouth of the wicked. So there's

  196. a distinction between a man who is righteous

  197. and a man who is wicked. And the words that is

  198. expected to come out from the mouth of a man

  199. that is righteous is that which builds up, that

  200. which gives life. Proverbs chapter 12, verse

    Proverbs 12:25

  201. 25. Proverbs 12, 25. Anxiety in the heart of

  202. a man causes depression. We read about do not

  203. be anxious for nothing, right? Anxiety in the

  204. heart of a man causes depression. But what is

  205. the solution? But the good word makes it what?

  206. Makes it glad. But what if you give a bad word

  207. to that anxiety in the person's heart? What will

  208. happen? It will make it worse. Hallelujah. So

  209. you see the impact of words in the life of others

  210. as we speak them. Proverbs 12 verse 18. Some

    Proverbs 12:18

  211. verses backward. There's one who speaks like

  212. a piercing of a sword. There's one who speaks

  213. like what? Like a piercing of a sword. But the

  214. tongue of the wise, what does it do? Promotes

  215. health. Okay? So words are associated to what?

  216. Building up to healing. Okay? To healing here.

  217. It promotes health. The words of a wise man promotes

  218. health. Can we see the importance of the word

  219. we speak? Hallelujah. Proverbs 15, verse 4. Proverbs

    Proverbs 15:4 Proverbs 15:4

  220. 15, verse 4. Another one. It says, wholesome

  221. tongue, talking about words, is a tree of life.

  222. A wholesome tongue is a tree of life. But pervasiveness

  223. in it breaks the spirit. Pervasiveness has to

  224. do with, you know, adulteration to the words

  225. of a man. It breaks the spirit. It has a supernatural

  226. impact on a man. What is spoken has the capability

  227. of breaking the spirit of a man. Proverbs 16,

    Proverbs 16:24

  228. verse 24. Proverbs 16, verse 24. It says, pleasant

    Proverbs 16:24

  229. words are like a honeycomb. Sweetness to the

  230. soul and water. Held. Can you see how words are

  231. associated to held? Right? Words are associated

  232. to held. They are held to the bones. They are

  233. held to the bones. Another one, Proverbs 11 verse

    Proverbs 11:9

  234. 9. Proverbs 11 verse 9. The hypocrite with his

    Proverbs 11:9

  235. mouth, what does he do? He destroys. Hallelujah.

  236. Do you know that you can destroy with your words?

  237. So a man that decides to be a hypocrite. can

  238. destroy his neighbor with his mouth. But through

  239. knowledge, the righteous will be delivered. Proverbs

    Proverbs 20:19

  240. chapter 20, verse 19. Proverbs chapter 20, verse

    Proverbs 20:19

  241. 19. He who goes about, I said, tell Bira. What

  242. does he do? He reveals secrets. He talks anyhow.

  243. Therefore, do not associate with one. Who flatters

  244. with what? With his lips. He said things that

  245. are not necessarily accurate. He flatters with

  246. his lips. Now some of us come from culture that

  247. there are some certain group of people that they

  248. are anointed in flattering people. When they

  249. begin to sing your praise, you don't know when

  250. you've given your car, you've given your house,

  251. you've given everything you have. Because of

  252. words. Hallelujah. So words that are spoken have

  253. impact on others. So we don't just speak anyhow

  254. as though we don't care. I just want to save

  255. my mind. In saving your mind, it impacts the

  256. person seated by you. Amen. Even if it's the

  257. truth you are speaking, the way you communicate

  258. the truth has impact on the people beside you.

  259. Hallelujah. So it is important that we understand

  260. the impact of our words. Proverbs 25. There are

  261. many, but we'll just read this one more. Proverbs

    Proverbs 25:18

  262. 25 verse 18. Proverbs 25 verse 18. There's a

    Proverbs 25:18

  263. man who bears false witness. These are words

  264. utter. False witness. He bears false witness

  265. by his words against his neighbor. You lie against

  266. your neighbor. You say something that is not

  267. true about them. So a man who bears false witness

  268. against his neighbor is like a club, a sword,

  269. and a sharp arrow. And this false witness is

  270. in words. You go about saying things that are

  271. not true about another. And we can see that that

  272. has impact on the life of other people. So why

  273. should we speak words that edify? Since we understand

  274. that the things we say has impact on others.

  275. How we say them has impact on others. Why we

  276. say them also have impact on others. Not only

  277. on us, but on others. The reason why we must

  278. speak words that edify is because we are a family.

  279. Hallelujah. We are a family. We are a family

  280. and we are a spiritual family. Irrespective of

  281. where you are coming from, we will see later

  282. on in our teachings, probably in the next session,

  283. that we are united in Christ. We are united in

  284. Christ. We are a family. So our words must express

  285. love. regardless of the situation and the context

  286. we find ourselves. We are a family. Now, I want

  287. us to go back from the beginning and seek God's

  288. eternal purpose. God's eternal purpose will help

  289. us understand why we should walk in love. Firstly,

  290. you can write this. God's eternal purpose is

  291. a people for himself. Okay? God's eternal purpose

  292. is a people for himself. Somebody said that,

  293. oh, you know. Even if I'm the only one, Jesus

  294. will come and die for me. It's true. But Jesus,

  295. God's plan is for people. It's not for only one

  296. person. Hallelujah. It's for people. It's for

  297. a family. It's for a people. So God's plan begins

  298. with humanity created in the image, in his image,

  299. in a family, living in a relationship with him

  300. and fulfilling his purpose. That is his plan.

  301. That is his desire. I want to read through. Genesis

  302. 1, 26. Let's look at it briefly. 28 and yes.

  303. It says, God said, let us make man in our image

  304. according to our likeness. Let them have dominion

  305. over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the

  306. air, over the cattle, over all the earth, over

  307. every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.

  308. Now you say, when God says, let us make man,

  309. he's not talking about one man. He's talking

  310. about, let us make humanity. That word man there

  311. is what? It's not male man. It's humanity. Adam

  312. there is humanity. So from the inception of God's

  313. plan, it's for a people. It's not for a man.

  314. It's for a people. Let us make humanity in our

  315. image. And we've taught in this pulpit that the

  316. image there is talking about representing God

  317. on the earth. All right? Let us make man in our

  318. image. And to explain that that man is not only

  319. one. He went on to say, let them have dominion.

  320. All right? Humanity will have dominion. Let them

  321. have dominion over the fish of the sea and on

  322. and on. So we see that God's intention from creation

  323. is to have a people who belong to him, live in

  324. his presence and reflect his character. So God's

  325. purpose continued after the fall in Genesis 3,

  326. when we read through Genesis 3, we see where

  327. the first man who is supposed to be, The first

  328. example, you know, fall. The fall also impacted,

  329. the fall of that man impacted human and family

  330. relationships. Both with man and also with God.

  331. But God began to unfold his redemptive plan through

  332. a family. Okay? So God's plan did not stop or

  333. change because of the fall of man. Rather, we

  334. see God in his continuity. to bring about the

  335. fulfillment of his plan through man. So God began

  336. to unfold his redemptive plan through a family

  337. with the blessings ultimately extended to nations.

  338. We see the impact of man's fall in Genesis chapter

    Genesis 3:21–24

  339. 3, verse 21 to 24. Give me Genesis 3, 21 to 24.

  340. It's a separation between God and that was not

  341. God's intention. God's intention is for union

  342. that will come by faith. Also for Adam, his wife,

  343. the Lord made tunics of skin and clothed them.

  344. Verse 22. Then the Lord God said, Behold, the

  345. man has become like one of us, no good and evil.

  346. And now lest he put out his hand and take also

  347. of the tree of life and eat and live forever.

  348. Verse 23. Therefore the Lord sent him out of

  349. the garden of Eden to till the ground from which

  350. he was taken. So he drove out man and he placed

  351. cherubim at the east of the garden of Eden. and

  352. a flaming sword which turned every way to guard

  353. the way to the tree of life. Hallelujah. So here

  354. we see how sin caused a separation. So God called

  355. Abraham, moving down to Abraham. God called Abraham

  356. and promised to make a great nation. Genesis

    Genesis 12:1–3

  357. chapter 12, verse 1 to 3, we see that God's plan

  358. did not stop at Adam. When Adam, you know, did

  359. not find himself in the plan of God. In fact,

  360. immediately, even his two children, one, you

  361. know, believe in the plans of God, in the purpose

  362. of God. But then in Abraham, we see God's plan

  363. begin to materialize. We see how God began to

  364. execute his divine plan from the beginning. So

  365. Adam failed, but we see a man in Abraham who

  366. believed. He believed in God's plan, and then

  367. he accepted God's plan, and he participated in

  368. God's plan. Because God's plan is entered to

  369. by faith. Hallelujah. So God called Abraham and

  370. promised to make him a great nation. Genesis

    Genesis 12:1–3

  371. 12 verse 1 to 3. Genesis 12 verse 1 to 3. Now

    Genesis 12:1–3

  372. the Lord has said to Abraham, get out of your

  373. country from your family and from your father's

  374. house to a land that I will show you. I will

  375. make you a great nation. I will bless you and

  376. make your name great. And you shall be a blessing.

  377. I will bless those who bless you. And I will

  378. curse him who curses you. And in you, all the

  379. families of the earth. So God's plan was for

  380. all humanity. The families of the earth shall

  381. be what? Blessed. Blessed here has to do with

  382. shall be included in God's plan. Because blessing

  383. here has to do with being part of God's. Family,

  384. being part of God's plan, being part of God's

  385. family. So through Abraham's offspring, all the

  386. families of the earth will be blessed. Move on

  387. to chapter 17 of that same Genesis. Chapter 17,

    Genesis 17:7–8

  388. verse 7 to 8. And I will establish my covenant

  389. between me and you and your descendants. So the

  390. plan is not only for Abraham, but it's for his

  391. descendants and after you in their generations.

  392. For God's plan is for people. many people for

  393. an everlasting covenant to be God to you and

  394. to your descendants after it was ate. Also, I

  395. give to you and your descendants and after you

  396. the land in which you are a stranger. All the

  397. land of Canaan, talking about people, all right?

  398. Land here is talking about people as an everlasting

  399. possession and I will be, what? I will be their

  400. God. I will be their father. Hallelujah. See,

  401. Pastor was teaching us last week about land being

  402. God. Amen. Inclusively. He's talking about all

  403. that is contained in the promise of God. God

  404. promised to be their God. Hallelujah. Much more

  405. than that. It's a people that is the oneness

  406. of God and his people. Hallelujah. God's plan

  407. is to be with his people in the promise. Amen.

  408. He gave us his spirit. We come into oneness in

  409. his spirit. Amen. We come into union with one

  410. another, with God. God and man become one. Hallelujah.

  411. That is God's plan and God's intention. So we

  412. see the continuity of God's plan to the people

  413. of Israel. A people saved and claimed by God.

  414. Exodus 6, verse 6 to 8. Their story is our story.

    Exodus 6:6–8

  415. The story of the nation of Israel is our story

  416. equally. Therefore say to the children of Israel,

  417. I'm the Lord. I will bring you out from under

  418. the burdens of the Egyptians. I will rescue you.

  419. Rescue he has to do with salvation. I will save

  420. you from their bondage. And oftentimes we see

  421. in scripture, Egypt is used as a type and shadow

  422. for what? For the deliverance from sin. That

  423. is why I said their story is our story. Hallelujah.

  424. God has redeemed us. He has saved us. That we

  425. will be a nation and a people for him. Hallelujah.

  426. So Moses here is to say to the children of Israel,

  427. I'm the Lord. I'll bring you out from under the

  428. burdens of the Egyptians. I will rescue you from

  429. their bondage and I will redeem you with an outstretched

  430. arm and with a great judgment. I will take you

  431. as what? So why he's saving them? He is saving

  432. them that they will be his people and you as

  433. what? As my people. And I will be your God. You

  434. shall know. That I am the Lord your God who brings

  435. you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians,

  436. verse 8. And I will bring you into the land which

  437. I swore to give to Abraham, to Isaac, and to

  438. Jacob. And I will give it to you as a heritage.

  439. I am the Lord. Hallelujah. Exodus chapter 19,

    Exodus 19:4–6

  440. verse 4 to 6. We see that when he has brought

  441. them out of Egypt. See, the nation of Israel

  442. started after the... The salvation from Egypt.

  443. Before, you know, the deliverance from Egypt,

  444. there was no Israel. So God called them out and

  445. then they became a nation unto him. Hallelujah.

  446. Now look at chapter 4, verse 6 of this text.

  447. So you have seen what I did to the Egyptians

  448. after delivering them. And now I bore you on

  449. eagle wings and bore you to myself. And that

  450. is a testimony of what God has done for all of

  451. us. He saved us from slavery. He saved us from

  452. what? From bondage of sin. He saved us from captivity,

  453. serving sin. And then he brought us by himself.

  454. He alone is a God who has saved us. Knowing that

  455. we have participated in our salvation. So he

  456. said to them, therefore, if you will indeed obey

  457. my voice. Obeying my voice is believing in my

  458. word. Believing in the word. If you will indeed

  459. obey my voice and keep my covenant. Then you

  460. shall be a special treasure to me above all the

  461. people. For all the earth is mine. Verse 7. Yes,

  462. verse 7. So Moses came and called for the elders

  463. of the people and laid before them all these

  464. words, which the Lord has commanded him. Let's

  465. move to Deuteronomy chapter 7, verse 6 to 8.

    Deuteronomy 7:6–8

  466. Deuteronomy chapter 7, verse 6 to 8. For you

    Deuteronomy 7:6–8

  467. are a holy people. A holy people speaks of people

  468. that have been set apart. especially for God.

  469. For you are a holy people to the Lord your God.

  470. The Lord your God has chosen you to be a people

  471. for himself, a special treasure above all the

  472. peoples on the face of the earth. The Lord did

  473. not set his love on you. This is grace. Hallelujah.

  474. If you want to know the teaching of grace, the

  475. teaching of grace is in the writings of even

  476. the Lord. Hallelujah. It says the Lord did not

  477. set his love on you or choose you because you

  478. were more in number than any other people. For

  479. you were the least of all the peoples. But because

  480. the Lord loves you and because he will keep the

  481. oath which he swore to your fathers, the Lord

  482. has brought you out with a mighty hand and redeemed

  483. you from the house of bondage from the hand of

  484. Pharaoh, the king of Egypt. So God did not merely

  485. deliver Israel from slavery, but he brought them

  486. into a relationship with himself and taught them

  487. how they should live. He declared them his treasured

  488. possession, a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.

  489. He gave them his commandments to guide their

  490. lives as his covenant people. Hallelujah. He

  491. equally promised to dwell among them in Exodus

  492. 25. Let's go to Exodus 25. We'll see the promise

  493. he made. Exodus 25 verse 8. It says, and let

    Exodus 25:8

  494. them make me a sanctuary. Okay? Let them make

  495. me a sanctuary among the people of Israel that

  496. have been delivered. Let them make me a sanctuary

  497. that I may dwell among them. So God's intent

  498. is to dwell among his people. Is to live amongst

  499. his people. Leviticus 26 verse 11. Leviticus

    Leviticus 26:11 Leviticus 26:11

  500. 26 verse 11. Not only that he serves them, But

  501. he wants to live among them. That is God's plan

  502. and God's purpose. I will set my tabernacle among

  503. you. And my soul shall abhor you. Shall not abhor

  504. you, rather. I will make, I will walk among you

  505. and be your God. And you shall be my people.

  506. And you shall be my people. So God's intent is

  507. what? Is to dwell among his people. Is to walk.

  508. with his people. It's to walk alongside his people

  509. and it's to walk in his people. That is God's

  510. intention. Not only to serve them alone, but

  511. to walk with them, to live with them, to dwell

  512. with them. So after saving the people, God gave

  513. them his law. Why did he give them the law? He

  514. gave them the law, his law. Law for God and law

  515. for one another. Hallelujah. Exodus chapter 10,

    Exodus 10:1–17

  516. verse 1 to 17 is what we call the 10 commandments,

  517. right? Let's read quickly. Exodus 20. And God

  518. spoke all these words saying, now the words he

  519. gave them was after delivering them. Hallelujah.

  520. I am the Lord your God who brought you out of

  521. the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.

  522. You shall have no other gods before me. You shall

  523. not make for yourself a calf image, any likeness

  524. of... anything that is heaven above or that is

  525. in the earth beneath or that is in the water

  526. under the earth. You shall not bow down to them

  527. nor serve them, for I, the Lord your God, am

  528. a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers

  529. upon the children to the third and the fourth

  530. generations of those who hate me, but showing

  531. mercy to thousands of those who love me and keep

  532. my commandment. You shall not take the name of

  533. the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will

  534. not hold him guiltless who takes his name in

  535. vain. Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy.

  536. Six days you shall labor and do all your work.

  537. But the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord

  538. your God. In it you shall do no work. You, nor

  539. your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant,

  540. nor your female servant, nor your cattle, nor

  541. your stranger, nor stranger who is within your

  542. gates. For in six days the Lord made the heavens

  543. and the earth, the sea and all that is in them,

  544. and rested the seventh day. Therefore the Lord

  545. blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it. Honor

  546. your father. Now he has shifted from talking

  547. about the relationship between God and man. And

  548. then he moved on to the relationship between

  549. man and man. And the first place he started is

  550. the family. Hallelujah. He says, Honor your father

  551. and your mother that your days may be long upon

  552. the land which the Lord, your God, has given

  553. you. So this law is to be practiced in the land

  554. that God has given them. Among the people to

  555. which God has saved them and has sent them, you

  556. shall not murder. Between men, men relationship,

  557. right? You shall not commit adultery. You shall

  558. not steal. You shall not lie against your neighbor.

  559. Words. You shall not covet your neighbor's house.

  560. You shall not covet your neighbor's wife, nor

  561. his male servant, nor his female servant, nor

  562. his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is

  563. your neighbor's. Hallelujah. And we see that

  564. God gave them a law. And Deuteronomy chapter

    Deuteronomy 4:5

  565. 4 verse 5. Let's read Deuteronomy 4 verse 5 also.

    Deuteronomy 4:5

  566. Collaborate scriptures together to see. Surely

  567. I have told you statutes and judgments, just

  568. as the Lord my God commanded me that you should

  569. act according to them in the land which you go

  570. to possess. So God delivering them, giving them

  571. his words, that they will become his people by

  572. believing. And as they believe, they go to a

  573. land. And as they live in a land to which they

  574. will live, he has given them what to guide their

  575. conduct in the land which he is sending them.

  576. Verse, yes. Verse 8 to 8. All right. Verse 6.

  577. Therefore, be careful to observe them, for this

  578. is your wisdom and your understanding in the

  579. sight of the peoples who will hear all these

  580. statutes. So, as they leave, the instruction

  581. that God has given them, the people, all right,

  582. that are living around the places who observe

  583. them, for this is your wisdom and your understanding

  584. in the sight of the peoples who will hear. Who

  585. will hear all these statues and say, what will

  586. they say? Surely this great nation is a wise

  587. and understanding people. Verse 7. For what great

  588. nation is there that has God near to it? Which

  589. great nation is there that has God near to it?

  590. Because many nations, their God is a representative

  591. God. He is a wood or a chair or whatever. But

  592. this God lives among them. As the Lord our God

  593. is to us, for whatever reason we may call upon

  594. him, and what great nation is there that has

  595. such statutes and righteous judgments? The statutes

  596. God gave will guide their conduct in the land

  597. that God is sending them. As in all his law,

  598. in this law which I said before you this day.

  599. Leviticus chapter 19 verse 18. Leviticus chapter

    Leviticus 19:18 Leviticus 19:18

  600. 19 verse 18. Or rather, give me chapter 6 of

  601. that Deuteronomy, sorry. Deuteronomy chapter

    Deuteronomy 6:4

  602. 6, verse 4 and verse 5. Hear, O Israel, the Lord

  603. our God, the Lord is one. You shall love the

  604. Lord your God with all your heart, with all your

  605. soul, and with all your strength. Leviticus chapter

    Leviticus 19:18

  606. 19, verse 18 now. Leviticus 19, verse 18. You

    Leviticus 19:18

  607. shall not take vengeance nor bear any grudge

  608. against the children of your people, but you

  609. shall love your neighbor as your servant. I am

  610. the Lord. So there are many things that God has

  611. said and instructed and many things that Moses

  612. himself have come and then implemented to guide

  613. the conduct of people in where God is leading

  614. them to. So the Ten Commandments establish the

  615. foundational requirements for Israel's relationship

  616. with God and with others. We've said that. The

  617. command to love God summarizes the proper response,

  618. the proper responses they give to Him. The command

  619. to love one's neighbor summarizes responsibility

  620. towards others. Jesus teaches that all the law

  621. and the prophets hang on these two. So to summarize

  622. the law that God gave them is in two. Matthew

    Matthew 25:34

  623. 25, verse 34 and 40. Let's see. Matthew 22, verse

    Matthew 22:34–40

  624. 34 to 40. Matthew 22. Let's see how God, how

  625. Jesus taught the Ten Commandments, what we call

  626. the law, the Ten Commandments. Now, when the

  627. Pharisees heard that he had silenced the Sadducees,

  628. you know, there are different parties that always

  629. are full of knowledge, some school of thoughts,

  630. you know. When the Pharisees heard that Jesus

  631. had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered together.

  632. Okay? Then one of them, a lawyer, asked him a

  633. question, testing him and saying, Teacher, which

  634. is the great commandment in the law? Which is

  635. the great commandment in the law? Jesus said

  636. to them, to him, You shall love the Lord your

  637. God with all your heart, with all your soul,

  638. and with all your mind. The next verse. This

  639. is the first and what? And great. Great simply

  640. means the foremost. First and the foremost. You

  641. have to love God. And loving God, you obey God.

  642. In obeying God, you believe in his word and in

  643. his instruction. That's how we love God. In obedience

  644. to his word. Faith. It's loving God. Hallelujah.

  645. This is the first and the great commandment,

  646. verse 29. And the second is like it. You shall

  647. love your neighbor as yourself. That is a summary

  648. of what we read in Exodus 20. So God's purpose

  649. of having a people from all nations into relationship

  650. with himself, we see that the climax of that

  651. journey from the beginning to the end, we see

  652. the climax and the conclusion of that in the

  653. person of Jesus Christ. God's purpose of having

  654. a people from all nations into a relationship

  655. with himself. Because the plan is not only the

  656. nation of Israel. The plan is for all people.

  657. But to work out God's plan for all people, he

  658. chose a man called Abraham. And through Abraham,

  659. we see the progression of his work in his descendants.

  660. We call them the Israelites. And from the Israelites,

  661. we see the... The conclusion of God's plan that

  662. everything was intended to be united in the person

  663. called Jesus Christ. Who was prophesied will

  664. come through the lineage of Abraham, David, Isaac,

  665. Jacob, and all the patriarchs. Hallelujah. So

  666. let's see Isaiah chapter 56, verse 6 to 8. Isaiah

    Isaiah 56:6–8 Isaiah 56:6–8

  667. 56, verse 6 to 8. Also the sons of the foreigner.

  668. Who are the foreigners? Foreigners are non -Jewish

  669. people, okay? Also the sons of the foreigner

  670. who join themselves to the Lord, to serve Him

  671. and to love the name of the Lord, to be His servants,

  672. everyone who keeps from defiling the Sabbath

  673. and hold fast my covenant. Even them I will bring

  674. to my holy mountain. So God's plan is for all

  675. people, all right? To bring to my holy mountain

  676. and make them joyful in my house of prayer. Their

  677. bone offerings and their sacrifices will be accepted

  678. on my altar. For my house shall be called the

  679. house of prayer for all nations. Say for all

  680. nations. The Lord God who gathers the outcasts

  681. of Israel. Who are the outcasts of Israel? Those

  682. who are not Israel. He gathers the outcasts of

  683. Israel and says, yet I will gather to him others

  684. besides those who are gathered to him. He will

  685. gather to himself who? Others who are not gathered,

  686. who are not Israel. Hallelujah. So God's plan

  687. is for all nations to be in his house. Ephesians

    Ephesians 2:11

  688. 2 verse 11. Ephesians 2 verse 11. And you, okay,

    Ephesians 2:11

  689. therefore remember that you are once what? Gentiles

  690. in the flesh. Now I'm talking about our identity.

  691. Okay. Here, Ephesians, Paul was writing to a

  692. people that were not Jewish. All right. It says,

  693. therefore remember, that you were once Gentiles

  694. in the flesh, who were called the uncircumcision

  695. by what is called a circumcision made in the

  696. flesh by hands. Continue quickly. That at the

  697. time you were without Christ, being aliens from

  698. the commonwealth of Israel and strangers from

  699. the covenant of promise, having no hope without

  700. God in the world. But now in Christ, Jesus, you

  701. who once were far off, have been brought near

  702. by the blood of Christ. For he himself is our

  703. peace, who has made both one and has broken down

  704. the middle wall of separation, having abolished

  705. in his flesh the enmity that is the law of commandments

  706. containing ordinances, so as to create in himself

  707. one new man from the two. thus making peace,

  708. verse 16, and that he might reconcile them both

  709. to God in one body through the cross, thereby

  710. putting to death the enmity. All right, verse

  711. 17. And he came and preached peace to you who

  712. were far off and to those who were near, again

  713. about the Jewish people, for through him we both

  714. have access by one spirit to the Father. So God

  715. is no longer the God of the nation of Israel

  716. or the God of Abraham. He's also your God. How?

  717. Through the spirit of God, through the access

  718. that we have by the preaching of the gospel that

  719. we've received, the news of peace that we receive,

  720. the gospel that we believe and we accept, and

  721. we come into this union and relationship with

  722. God. And God becomes what? Our father. He says,

  723. for through him, we both have access by one spirit

  724. to the father. So God becomes our father. Hallelujah.

  725. He becomes our God. Verse 19. Now, therefore,

  726. you are no longer strangers and foreigners. But

  727. what? What are we? Fellow citizens. With who?

  728. With a sense. And members of what? Members of

  729. the household of God. So we are now members of

  730. the family of God. Yes. Yes. Yes. Having been

  731. built on the foundation of the apostles, the

  732. message they preach, And the prophets, what is

  733. their message? Jesus Christ himself being the

  734. cornerstone, he is the subject of the message

  735. they preach. He is the foundation of their ministry.

  736. In whom the whole building being fitted together

  737. grows into a holy temple into the Lord. The temple

  738. is where God dwells. So together, God dwells

  739. in us by the Spirit. In whom you also are being

  740. built, or we've studied the scripture right before.

  741. In him in whom you also are built together for

  742. a dwelling place for God in the spirit. Remember

  743. we said God's desire is to inhabit his people.

  744. Is to dwell among his people. Is to walk with

  745. his people. So through Christ we are brought

  746. into this congregation of God. It is what we

  747. call the church today. Hallelujah. It is what

  748. we call the kingdom of God today. It is what

  749. we call the family of God today. Under one God.

  750. Under one father. By the spirit through what

  751. Christ has done. Scriptures will often say that

  752. Jesus Christ becomes our elder brother in the

  753. flesh. He became what? He became, he was first

  754. of all, the begotten. Hallelujah. The only begotten,

  755. right? From there, we became what? We become

  756. sons as well. But what he has done, he brought

  757. us into the family by the spirit. Hallelujah.

  758. So we are families. Look at Revelation 7, verse

    Revelation 7:9–10

  759. 9 to 10. Talks about this family. After these

  760. things. I look and behold a great multitude which

  761. no one could number, of all nations, tribes,

  762. peoples, tongues, and standing before the throne.

  763. You see, it's not only Jewish people. The revelation

  764. of John is for all nations, tribes, peoples,

  765. and tongues, standing before the throne and before

  766. the Lamb, clothed with white robes, with palm

  767. branches in their hands, and crying out with

  768. a loud voice, saying, Salvation belongs to our

  769. God and who sits on the throne and to the Lamb.

  770. Hallelujah. and to the Lamb. So we see here that

  771. there are nations, different tribes and different

  772. tongues. So God's purpose included blessing the

  773. nations through Abraham, through Christ, those

  774. who were far off are brought near to God. Jews

  775. and Gentiles, believers reconciling Christ and

  776. brought into God's household. And we see God's

  777. redeemed people come from every tribe and every

  778. nation and every language. Whether you are from

  779. Zimbabwe, you're from Nigeria, you're from Kenya,

  780. you're from wherever you come from, in Christ,

  781. we are brought together under one umbrella, in

  782. love, by the Spirit of God. Hallelujah. So if

  783. God has called us to be His people and has taught

  784. us to love one another, because love, we saw,

  785. is the way we live in this family. Love towards

  786. God, and we see that love towards God reflected

  787. in our relationship towards one another. So if

  788. God has called us to be his people and has taught

  789. us to love one another, how should that love

  790. be expressed in our relationship? And especially

  791. in the words we speak. Especially in the words

  792. we speak. First and foremost, we do not lie to

  793. one another. All right? We do not lie to one

  794. another. We speak the truth to one another. We

  795. speak the truth to one another. As people whom

  796. God has saved. And members of one family, we

  797. don't lie to one another, but we speak the truth

  798. in love. There is a condition for speaking the

  799. truth. If we speak the truth outside love, it

  800. will destroy. Hallelujah. But we must speak the

  801. truth within the context of love in order to

  802. edify one another. Proverbs 12, 22, we read this.

  803. It says that lying lips are what? Lion lips are

  804. what? Please look up. They are what? They are

  805. an abomination to the Lord. But those who deal

  806. truthfully are his delight. And see what he told

  807. the nation of Israel in Zechariah chapter 8 verse

    Zechariah 8:16

  808. 16. When, you know, he was speaking to them by

  809. the prophet. Zechariah chapter 8 verse 16 and

    Zechariah 8:16

  810. 17. Zechariah chapter 8 verse 16 and 17. These

    Zechariah 8:16

  811. are the things you shall do. Speak each man the

  812. truth to his neighbor. Who is your neighbor?

  813. Your neighbor is your brother in Christ. Your

  814. neighbor is your fellow brother and your sister,

  815. who is of the same father as you, that is God.

  816. Speak each man the truth to his neighbor. Give

  817. judgment in your gates for truth, justice, and

  818. peace. 17. Let none of you think evil in your

  819. heart against your neighbor. And do not love

  820. a false oath. For all these are things I hate.

  821. Says who? Says the Lord. So the Lord is not impressed

  822. by lying. Romans chapter 12 verse 5. Romans chapter

    Romans 12:5 Romans 12:5

  823. 12 verse 5. Romans chapter 12 verse 5. So we,

    Romans 12:5

  824. being many, are what? Are one body in Christ.

  825. And individually members of one another. Ephesians

    Ephesians 4:25

  826. 4 verse 25, the text we read earlier on. Ephesians

    Ephesians 4:25

  827. 4 verse 25, which is our anchor scripture in

  828. this teaching. It says what? Therefore, why is

  829. there a word therefore there? Because it says

  830. many things, right? Therefore, because we are

  831. members of one family. Therefore, because we

  832. are in Christ. Therefore, because we are the

  833. church of God. Therefore, because we are the

  834. people of God. Putting away what? Lying. Okay?

  835. Let each one of you speak truth. With who? With

  836. his neighbor. I think Pierre, he is quoting that

  837. Zechariah. Let each one of you speak what? Truth

  838. with his neighbor. Why? For we, our, are members

  839. of one another. Colossians. Okay. Move to chapter

  840. five, verse one. Chapter five, verse one. Speaks

  841. of God as our father. Ephesians five, verse one.

  842. Colossians 3, verse 9. Colossians 3, verse 9.

    Colossians 3:9 Colossians 3:9

  843. Do not lie to one another. Why? Since you have

  844. put off the old man, and that old man is the

  845. ungenerated man. His character is what? He's

  846. lying. Do not lie to one another since you have

  847. put off the old man with his deeds. With his

  848. deeds. Matthew 5, 37. Matthew 5, 37. But let

  849. your yes be what? Be your yes. Your no be no.

  850. For whatever is more than this is from the other

  851. man. It's from the evil one. Hallelujah. And

  852. you and I are not from the evil one. Okay? Because

  853. when we lie one to another, we not only hurt

  854. one another. But do you know what we do? Look

  855. at Ephesians 4 verse 30. When we lie one to another,

    Ephesians 4:30

  856. because lying hurts people, it breaks people,

  857. it destroys relationships. But most importantly,

  858. when we lie one to another, we grieve the Holy

  859. Spirit of God that has been given to us as a

  860. seal. We grieve the Holy Spirit of God. that

  861. has been given to us as a seal. And do not give

  862. the Holy Spirit of God by whom you were sealed

  863. for the day of redemption. When you read within

  864. the context of all that he said in this scripture,

  865. he's talking about walking in love. And when

  866. we don't walk in love, we are giving the Holy

  867. Spirit. And how we give the Holy Spirit equally

  868. includes speaking the things we say to one another

  869. that is not true. Because every lie has an intention.

  870. And the intention of a lie is to deceive. Hallelujah.

  871. The intention of a lie, you don't lie to people

  872. to edify them. You lie to people to deceive them.

  873. There's neither black or white lie. Lie, the

  874. intent of lie is what? Is to deceive. And we

  875. know the source of a lie. Hallelujah. So lying

  876. grieves the Holy Spirit of God. What does it

  877. mean to grieve the Holy Spirit of God? It makes

  878. the Holy Spirit of God uncomfortable. In fact,

  879. it limits the operation of the spirit from amongst

  880. us. It limits the flow of the things of the spirit

  881. from amongst us. Because the atmosphere must

  882. be an atmosphere of love. Because of time, next

  883. time when we come, we'll see on Wednesday particularly,

  884. we'll see that the character of the father is

  885. truth. We'll see that the devil is a father of

  886. all lies. Hallelujah. And if we are believers

  887. and we are children of God, we must act according

  888. to the nature of our father. Amen? We are not

  889. of the devil. So we're going to see how lying

  890. destroys our relationship, that breaks the union

  891. that we have as a family. Hallelujah. I just

  892. want you to just pray. Pray this, pray this,

  893. pray this. As you pray, you are examining your

  894. words. Am I speaking truthfully? Or am I deliberately?

  895. You know, there are some believers that at the

  896. quickest possible chance they have, they will

  897. say things that are not true. It's natural, but

  898. it's not supposed to be. Because you're a man,

  899. you're a woman in Christ. We appreciate you being
