  1. You're listening to a message to go from Acts Church.

  2. We hope this message will light up your day.

  3. I want to speak about, by title of my message,

  4. from the inside out. I want to speak about the

  5. Holy Spirit. If you have your Bible with you, would

  6. you turn to Matthew chapter 15 verse, I'm going to

    Matthew 15 chapter mention

  7. read from verse 1 to verse 9. Matthew 15 verse

    Matthew 15:1

  8. 1 to verse 9. Then the scribes and the Pharisees

  9. who were from Jerusalem came to Jesus saying, Why do

  10. your disciples transgress the tradition of the elders? For they

  11. do not wash their hands when they eat bread. Jesus

  12. answered and said to them, Why do you transgress the

  13. commandment of God because of your tradition? For God commanded, saying,

  14. Honor your father and your mother. He who curses his

  15. father or mother, let him be put to death. But

  16. you say, whoever says to his father or mother, whatever

  17. profit you might receive from me is a gift of God.

  18. Then he need not honour his father or mother. Thus

  19. you have made the commandments of God of no effect.

  20. By your tradition. Verse 7. Hypocrites.

  21. Well, did Isaiah prophesy about you saying, these people draw

  22. near to me with their mouth, honour me with their lips?

  23. But their heart is far from me.

  24. In vain they worship me, teaching as doctrine as the

  25. commandment of men. You know, as you read through this

  26. portion of Scripture in Matthew chapter 15, you realize that

    Matthew 15 chapter mention

  27. God is really after something deeper. Not just about keeping

  28. up with tradition. Not just about keeping up with the doing.

  29. But it has to go deeper than that. Have we

  30. been just caught up with the doing only? have you

  31. been just caught up with the doing? I just want

  32. you to ponder this for a moment. Being at a

  33. certain age, you reflect a lot these days. Being at

  34. a certain age, right, you tend to reflect a lot,

  35. thinking about the future, how.

  36. Many more years you may have, right?

  37. You think about the next generation, you think about, you know,

  38. how would the future look like? What do you leave behind?

  39. Those are some of my thoughts. And one of the

  40. things that, you know, me and Pastor Kenneth, sometimes we

  41. do dialogue, I do talk about when we do have time,

  42. is that how will we pass on? What would this

  43. generation learn from us?

  44. Right?

  45. Some of you were with us in the earlier days.

  46. We didn't have much, but we prayed through some things.

  47. God came through. Now it's almost like the Solomon generation,

  48. like David prepared everything for Solomon.

  49. Right?

  50. And in the Solomon generation, he didn't have to go

  51. for wars. He didn't have to fight against Goliath. He

  52. didn't have to face so many things. All Solomon was

  53. just have to learn is how to govern. Govern the land.

  54. Even with that, he struggled with us all. So this

  55. whole thing about the external, the doing, the external, the

  56. coming to church, the external, the prayer service, the leaders' meeting,

  57. the different meetings that catch up you have. After a while,

  58. I'm not sure about you, but sometimes when you are

  59. driving your car to those meetings, you're wondering like.

  60. Yeah, what's this all about?

  61. Right?

  62. Why am I going through the jam? What's it for?

  63. And sometimes we could be like the Pharisees, essentially just

  64. keeping up with a certain tradition. certain tradition, but not

  65. understanding the heart behind it.

  66. Why do we do it? Why do we keep it

  67. in the first place?

  68. The Pharisees and the scribes were focusing on the external

  69. actions of the disciples, the tradition and manner, but they've

  70. really forgotten the heart. We can keep with coming to church,

  71. for example, or going for meetings, anything to do with Christianity, right?

  72. We can keep all that on the external, but sometimes...

  73. If you're not careful, you might forget the heart. The

  74. heart is very important, friends. The heart is very important.

  75. People celebrate anniversary every year. Some people do, some people don't,

  76. all right? I'm not here to debate whether it's... But anyway,

  77. people do celebrate anniversary.

  78. After a while, we tend to forget.

  79. The purpose of anniversary because, oh, you better do something

  80. with your wife, right?

  81. For your wife and just stuff like that because it's anniversary.

  82. But they actually can forget what is the purpose of

  83. anniversary after a while. Birthdays, after a while, we celebrate birthdays.

  84. And after a while, as you grow older, like, no

  85. need to celebrate lah. I come from a family that

  86. don't really celebrate birthdays. I know of other people, family,

  87. they don't celebrate birthdays at all. I was talking to

  88. my colleague and she said, yeah, my parents don't celebrate

  89. my birthday one. I said, so what do you do

  90. when the actual day happens? Like normal day lah. Could

  91. you imagine the heart, of any event is forgotten, it

  92. becomes like any other thing that we do.

  93. Right?

  94. So focusing on the external or the outside sometimes means

  95. attendance without conviction. We can go for any meeting, any meeting,

  96. not just church, any meeting, sometimes corporate meetings, your business

  97. meeting without conviction, meaning you see that I'm just, one

  98. of the.

  99. Things I have to do for work, one of the

  100. things I have.

  101. To do in my daily schedule, right? But you just

  102. can't wait for the meeting to finish. You can't wait

  103. for the thing to end. Some of us couldn't wait

  104. for church to be over. Some of us couldn't wait

  105. for lunch to, I mean, we just want to go

  106. out and we want to do things, all right?

  107. Attendance without conviction, serving without a relationship.

  108. We can serve God, we can serve the Lord, but

  109. At the end of the day, it's not just about serving.

  110. It is not just about scheduling. It's really about relationship

  111. with the Lord. Do you have a relationship with God

  112. or not? Do you read His Word? Do you spend time?

  113. Do you pray? Do you ask Him.

  114. For direction?

  115. Do you ask Him to reveal more of Himself to you?

  116. Do you ask Him, God, who? Can I just know

  117. more about you? I think in our journey, in our Christianity,

  118. sometimes we do forget to ask God, God, could you

  119. just show yourself a bit more to me? Not asking God, God,

  120. I want to do more for you alone. Because it's

  121. just about a checklist that God will have given you,

  122. a checklist. Okay, 2027, this is your checklist right now.

  123. You achieve this.

  124. Once you achieve this milestone, therefore, I will release the

  125. next trenches of funds to you.

  126. God doesn't operate that way.

  127. Serving without relationship, sometimes messages of the world becomes information

  128. rather than transformation. I've seen a lot of people saying

  129. that they want to go deeper, but not just deeper

  130. in terms of relationship, but deeper in terms of knowledge.

  131. While we exhort knowledge, knowledge is important, but it's not

  132. sometimes as important as relationship. Someone asked me a question

  133. just recently, how do you know the Bible is real?

  134. How do you know the Bible is real? I said,

  135. I'm not here to convince you.

  136. No matter what I say, no matter what I do,

  137. try to tell you the history and the stuff like that,

  138. I do not know the fullness of history, but you

  139. may just say it's just a printed paper at the

  140. end of the day. I said, that has only happened,

  141. I said, only time when the Bible comes real to

  142. you is when you ask God to reveal Himself through

  143. the pages to you. Then he asked me the next

  144. question was this, is that, how do you, uh, But

  145. what about you?

  146. What do you say about the Bible?

  147. I just went and I said, look, I may not

  148. know a lot about the Scripture, I just know that

  149. God is real in me because He spared me from

  150. different dangers, harm and death. At the end of the day,

  151. sometimes in your journey, that's all we need to know.

  152. That's all you really need to know. You don't really

  153. need to know the fullness. But you really need to

  154. know that God is real. He's going to be real

  155. for you and your family. He's real for you in

  156. every situation. Because sometimes we can go into the Hebrews

  157. and Greek, we forget about the relationship.

  158. That's why Jesus did not say do away with the tradition.

  159. He just said.

  160. That don't let tradition get in the way of relationship

  161. with Him and honour Him. And sometimes we can follow

  162. a lot of tradition, but we really could have forgotten.

  163. What it's all about.

  164. And I want to encourage you today that, you know,

  165. don't let the messages be information. Really don't let the

  166. messages be information. I was clearing my house and looking

  167. through all the journals, okay? Back then, the early days,

  168. before the tablets, before the phone, we used to take

  169. exercise book or buy journals. We scribble, we write, and

  170. we have stack and stack of journals. And the question

  171. that I ask myself is that, what on earth am

  172. I going to do with these journals right now? Right?

  173. Do I put it in a box, keep it away,

  174. display it out? Because some of the journals really like,

  175. not read it very slightly lah. in terms of the

  176. cover has pecah already and stuff like that.

  177. And to throw away such good memories.

  178. But after a while, I asked myself, all that God

  179. has revealed for you, for me, do I sometimes even

  180. look at those journals? Do I actually look at it

  181. and just reflect upon it? Do I think about what

  182. God has revealed to me? Because sometimes we can go

  183. through motions of life forward and go through the speed

  184. of everyday transaction, everyday life, without pausing for a moment

  185. to reflect, actually God, you've been so good to me.

  186. And God, you've revealed yourself to me. But sometimes the

  187. world is that we want a new recipe. How to

  188. cook different dishes. We want a new... recipe to cook

  189. the same dishes again.

  190. Right?

  191. It's not good enough just to make a cake. Now,

  192. you want to deconstruct a cake.

  193. Right?

  194. It's not good just to deconstruct the cake.

  195. It's to make it extra pretty. Alright?

  196. Dainty, small, bite-sized. But ultimately, it's still the same thing.

  197. And And sometimes we get so stuck in searching for

  198. a new revelation, we forget that God actually did reveal

  199. Himself to you and to me.

  200. Right? The disciples were with Jesus for three years.

  201. Come on, three years? Yet still betrayed, denied and left Him.

  202. Think about it for a moment. The disciples who we

  203. have called to walk alongside.

  204. With Him for three years. There's no other.

  205. I would say best discipler there is besides Jesus. These

  206. people walked with him, saw miracles, saw supernatural, saw all

  207. that he has done, yet at the same time, still denied, betrayed,

  208. one of them betrayed him, and majority of the disciples

  209. left him. Think about it for a moment because in

  210. our Christian world, what happened, I mean, I want you

  211. to just imagine right now that you came to church,

  212. just wanted to exclaim, and there were policemen outside. Policemen outside,

  213. wanting to have a word with your coordinator, Jason, for

  214. a moment. I wonder how many of us here, we

  215. just say that, see like, this Jason must have done

  216. something wrong.

  217. That's why he's here. Didn't pay, he's summoned. He didn't do.

  218. Anything of that, but sometimes we heard that the police

  219. did show up in one of the churches this morning.

  220. Not now, church plant, but another church, another denomination. One

  221. car and a couple of people on the bike came

  222. and were at the entrance of the church. I just

  223. want you to imagine, right, if this happened to ex-client,

  224. for example, not because you did anything wrong, because you

  225. decided to follow Christ. What would your faith be? Oh,

  226. this church is just a bit too hot to handle.

  227. Let's look for something a bit more mellow, a bit

  228. more quieter, a bit more easier, a bit more safe.

  229. What will happen, friends, when you have police right in

  230. front there and just, you know, taking down, recording whoever

  231. comes in?

  232. Will we still follow?

  233. Don't talk about police, talk about situation, talk about circumstances.

  234. Sometimes when pressure do come, we actually can forget who

  235. we are following. Sometimes when pressure do come into our heart,

  236. we can actually forget what God was trying to teach

  237. us all these years. Jesus' response was more than just

  238. keeping up with the tradition. He was asking the scribes

  239. and the Pharisees to keep close to God at the

  240. end of the day. He answered and said to them,

  241. why do you transgress the commandment of God because of

  242. your tradition? Why do you transgress the commandment of God

  243. because of your tradition? God, at the end of the day,

  244. wants us to get our hearts right.

  245. He does.

  246. He wants us to get our hearts right because, it's

  247. not on the slide, but Proverbs chapter 4 verse 23

    Proverbs 4:23

  248. says that guard your heart above all else.

  249. Outflows life, right?

  250. Guide your heart, chapter 4, verse 23.

  251. Guide your heart with all diligence, outflows the issue of life.

  252. I want us to ponder for a moment, why was

  253. the scripture in there? Because our hearts, friends, when you are,

  254. for example, in a situation, whoever controls the heart controls.

  255. The outcome, right or not?

  256. Whatever emotion controls the heart controls the outcome. If we

  257. are the type that easily gives in, let's say, for example,

  258. anger or jump to conclusion, then the outcome would be

  259. that those decisions we make is based on that. If

  260. we are the type that, you know, that harden our hearts,

  261. when God wants to say something, harden our hearts, we

  262. will go our own way, we will push God aside.

  263. That's why the Lord wants to remind us this morning

  264. to get our hearts right. Jesus reminds the problem is

  265. not with the tradition or custom.

  266. It is not.

  267. It is not about tradition or custom. It is our

  268. hearts where we got just so used to keeping up

  269. without keeping close to God. We got so used to

  270. certain situations, certain things that we forgot to keep close

  271. to God. I say this only because sometimes in our,

  272. even as believers, as leaders, you know, as people serving, right?

  273. We can come to a place whereby it's the doing

  274. rather than the relationship. The doing rather than having a

  275. relationship with God. I understand sometimes it's very weird. You think,

  276. how do I have a relationship with God? I can't

  277. see Him. It's so abstract, right? Everyone claims to have

  278. a relationship with Him. Everyone has a different interpretation of

  279. what relationship with God means. Which means to say, He

  280. just accepts me for all my flaws and everything like that.

  281. I don't have to change. But sometimes we can miss

  282. the boat. Can miss the boat. And sometimes we think

  283. that we view things in our situation, our life with

  284. our own lenses rather than through the lens of the Bible.

  285. We view things through the lenses of our own life,

  286. our own experience rather than through the lenses of the Bible.

  287. And that's a very scary thought because if we reveal

  288. things to our own life experience alone, friends, we make decisions,

  289. we make life changes based on our own experience and

  290. that may not be what the Lord wants. Matthew 15

    Matthew 15:7–9

  291. verse 7 to 9 says, All the external, right?

  292. You can draw near to God with our mouth, right?

  293. We praise Him, we come to church, we know how

  294. to worship Him, we honour God with everything else. Everything

  295. on the external can be heard, can be seen.

  296. Right?

  297. But God sees through that. God sees beyond the outward expression.

  298. He knows where we are. That's why he says that

  299. their heart is far away from me. Their heart is

  300. far away from me in vain they worship me. So

  301. God is reminding us this morning that if we will

  302. go down this path of just honouring God with our

  303. mouth and our lips, and you look at worst night

  304. in which they worship me, we can come to a

  305. place whereby we can be so quiet. Asking ourselves, what's

  306. the point? I can worship God in my house after

  307. a while. I don't need to come to church. I

  308. can do things for God in my own interpretation. That's

  309. why sometimes in our life, there is no breakthrough. There

  310. is no advancement in our walk with Him. There is

  311. no revelation of who God is. And the danger sometimes

  312. with this is that we can come to a place

  313. whereby we can be so tired on the outward expression.

  314. Really.

  315. God understands, He knows to worship needs strength. To worship,

  316. you need strength. To praise Him after a while, it's like,

  317. if you don't really fully believe it, we stop even reciting.

  318. If you don't fully believe the Word of God is

  319. the Word of God, we stop reading.

  320. And God wants us to remind us and He wants us,

  321. let's get our hearts right because if our heart is right, when.

  322. You worship Him, He's no longer in vain anymore.

  323. The heart means that, I'm going to do a bit

  324. of teaching, the heart means the inner man or soul.

  325. Let me just show you from a few scriptures what

  326. does the heart really mean. The heart is a seat

  327. where desires or inclinations are formed. The heart is a

  328. seat where desires or inclinations are formed. Exodus chapter 7

    Exodus 7:14

  329. verse 14. So the Lord said to Moses, Pharaoh's heart

  330. is hard. he refused to let the people go. Because

  331. the heart is hardened, the heart is stubborn, because the

  332. heart refused to do certain things, he decided that the

  333. people cannot, cannot, cannot be released. If we look at

  334. our own hearts sometimes, if our heart is stubborn, that's

  335. why change is difficult.

  336. If our heart is stubborn. That's why moving forward is hard.

  337. I like to use this analogy that sometimes we always

  338. think that cleaning, for example, is cleaning is how we

  339. see things. How clean things are is how we see things.

  340. Some of us, a clean toilet means to say no

  341. hair on the floor. So I did, I'm not sure

  342. I told you before, I did an interview one time

  343. with One Church Plant Service and I know the husband

  344. and wife. I know the wife is a bit more

  345. OCD but I have to interview the husband first. So

  346. I asked the husband, hey, what is your visualization of

  347. a clean toilet? His answer was, Elder, as long as

  348. there's no stains on the toilet bowl, it's considered good.

  349. As long as there's no stains on the toilet bowl.

  350. It's considered good. I said, really?

  351. He said, yeah, it's clean already. The toilet can be used.

  352. So I went and asked the wife. I said, hey,

  353. what do you think of his answer? Partially correct. partially correct.

  354. I said, have you tried to educate your husband before

  355. how to clean the toilet?

  356. Many times. I said, did it work?

  357. No.

  358. No.

  359. Because sometimes when our heart, the word is, when we

  360. refuse to change, when our heart is hard in a

  361. certain way because we think we are right, that's why

  362. change is so hard.

  363. So I said, what is your definition of a clean toilet?

  364. The toilet bowl must be clean, the sink must be spotless,

  365. No watermark on the shower screen.

  366. Right?

  367. And finally, no hair on the floor. So, same household,

  368. two different definitions. Same household, two different definitions. So my

  369. wife has a perfect plan right now. She says, dear,

  370. I tell you what, I surrender.

  371. I cannot live up to your toilet cleanliness. I surrender.

  372. I cannot live up to your toilet cleanliness. So therefore,

  373. you clean the toilet.

  374. Because no matter how I clean it, you will find fault.

  375. Say that it's not clean.

  376. In the mind of trying to educate her that my

  377. way of cleaning is better. You see how sometimes when

  378. the heart is just hardened, right? My wife's heart is hardened.

  379. When the person's heart is hardened, I refuse anymore. And

  380. she would take out kitchen utensils and tell me, Dear,

  381. you didn't wash properly. You see, I still get garlic,

  382. garlic stuff on the microplane there, the.

  383. Grater, right? I still get pieces of garlic there. I

  384. just say, garlic is okay. Okay.

  385. I said, do you know how dirty outside kitchen utensils

  386. are in a restaurant or not?

  387. You still eat it without complaining. Our house is considered

  388. very clean already. It's true, right?

  389. But anyway, what I'm trying to say is that when

  390. our heart is hardened, we refuse to change. And both

  391. of us having this dialogue constantly, you know, constantly about

  392. who cleans better and stuff like that. And because of that,

  393. we refuse to change. We refuse to change. And sometimes

  394. she can... Yeah, I'm just going to say it. Sometimes

  395. she can use the toilet, right? For two, three weeks,

  396. you're washing the toilet. It's clean, no spot. Whereas the husband,

  397. when she goes on tour, I go clean, scrub the

  398. toilet nicely, make sure it's soaked in Clorox, everything, right?

  399. Smell of chemical lab than anything else. Huh? Oh, yes. Yes.

  400. or get bored, right?

  401. So the heart is also the seat of emotion. Heart

  402. is also the seat of emotion. You shall love the

  403. Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul,

  404. and all your strength.

  405. It is. Your heart is the seat of emotion.

  406. So the question has been is that what emotion has

  407. been driving your heart? What emotion has been driving your heart?

  408. I'm not asking us like, oh, today I feel joy,

  409. so joy is driving it. Friends, in situations and circumstances, right,

  410. when those things does happen to you, to me, what

  411. emotion is driving that heart. Because sometimes the word is

  412. that you feel that injustice has been done to your life.

  413. For example, injustice, right? You want to get even, right?

  414. You want to pick up the phone immediately. I'm like

  415. that sometimes. I have this bad habit. I want to

  416. resolve things immediately, right now. Right now, let's talk about it.

  417. No matter what time in the morning, 6am or so,

  418. I'll call people. But that translates the person receiving the

  419. phone call like, I'm angry.

  420. I'm angry. But to me, it was, I'm not angry, I.

  421. Just want to resolve the issue. So I want us

  422. to just think about it. You shall love the Lord

  423. your God with all your heart. So the heart is

  424. a seat of emotion. So it drives you because when

  425. you love the Lord your God with all your heart,

  426. your soul will follow, right? And your strength will follow

  427. as well. But the challenge is sometimes we don't know

  428. what emotion is driving our heart.

  429. Majority of us say, oh, my emotions is checked, it's good, right?

  430. Until we go through a fire, until someone hit our car,

  431. until we get a bill that you.

  432. Did not, the word is planned for, things like that.

  433. And the emotions just hijacks us, cause us to make

  434. certain decisions, life-changing decisions, that will.

  435. Take us away from our destiny. The heart is also

  436. a seat of understanding.

  437. 1 Kings 3, 9 says, Therefore give your servant an

  438. understanding heart to judge your people, that I may discern

  439. between good and evil, for who is able to judge

  440. these great people of yours? The heart is a seat

  441. of understanding. So therefore, if you lack understanding, you can

  442. ask God, God, could you give me an understanding heart?

  443. But the problem with Solomon with his life was that

  444. he likes to give out advice but rather seldom give

  445. advice to himself.

  446. He likes to give.

  447. Out advice rather than advising himself how to live out

  448. his life. The wisest man on earth loved to give

  449. out advice, very filled to live out.

  450. His own advice.

  451. He missed the mark, he missed the boat, you know,

  452. the wisest man ever lived. People sought for him for advice,

  453. for understanding. Yet he can decipher everything. He can give

  454. a really good advice. But yet sometimes in his own heart,

  455. his own heart, he can't see his own flaws. The

  456. heart is also a seat of rebellion and pride. Whatever

  457. good about the heart, sometimes the heart takes the form

  458. of rebellion and pride. The Lord's smelled the soothing aroma,

  459. then the Lord said in his heart, I will never

  460. again curse the ground for man's sake, although the imagination

  461. of a man's heart is evil from his youth. Nor

  462. will I again destroy every living thing as I have done.

  463. So the Bible, Genesis chapter 8 verse 21 says, the

    Genesis 8:21

  464. imagination of a man's heart is evil.

  465. Evil.

  466. It's hard sometimes.

  467. To correct ourselves because our heart is always inclined towards

  468. a particular direction. Inclined towards a particular direction. You go

  469. to buffet lines, you see people pile up things, even

  470. though they cannot finish, they still pile up. We want

  471. the best for ourselves and sometimes we forget about others.

  472. And sometimes the Lord says, give up your seat. But Lord,

  473. I'm tired. It could be a crowded bus. Sometimes, you know,

  474. we do. I'm not sure we all take bus here.

  475. But in my earlier days of work, I have to

  476. take public transportation to work and, you know, and stuff

  477. like that. It could be a crowded bus and you

  478. see someone who needs a seat. You go, God, I'm

  479. also tired. Pretend not to see, close our eyes. Those

  480. are not necessarily bad, but sometimes you know in the

  481. heart of hearts. The heart becomes harder and harder when

  482. the man goes his own way. The heart becomes harder

  483. and harder when the man goes his own way. The

  484. heart is deceitful above all things, desperately wicked.

  485. Who can know it? The heart is deceitful above all things,

  486. desperately wicked.

  487. Already the Bible describes it as rebellion and pride, evil.

  488. The imagination of a man's heart since young is evil.

  489. Here Jeremiah 17 verse 9 says, The heart is deceitful

    Jeremiah 17:9

  490. above all things, desperately wicked.

  491. Who can know it?

  492. As you read some of this scripture, you go like, God,

  493. is there hope? God, is there hope for me? Even

  494. though the heart is wild, God can do a miracle

  495. in our hearts. Deuteronomy chapter 30 verse 6 says that

    Deuteronomy 30:6

  496. Lord your God will circumcise your heart and the heart

  497. of your descendants to love the Lord your God with

  498. your heart, with your soul and with and so that

  499. you may live. Only God can do a change in

  500. our heart. Church, Only God can do a change in

  501. your heart.

  502. Why is it so important? Because here's the thing, if

  503. you look, the Lord.

  504. God will circumcise your heart and the heart of your

  505. descendants to love. There's something in our hearts that needs

  506. to remove so we can love more. There's something in

  507. our heart that needs to change, transform, renew so that

  508. we can understand God's love and God's plan and God's future. Friends,

  509. the Bible says the Holy Spirit came to help us

  510. from the inside out. The Holy Spirit came to help

  511. us from the inside out. Acts 2, verse 38. Then

    Acts 2:38

  512. Peter said to them, Repent and let everyone be baptized

  513. in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins.

  514. You shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. So

  515. Peter said to them, Repent and let everyone be baptized.

  516. there must first be repentance, there must first be a change,

  517. there must first be a realisation and awareness that we

  518. need to change the way we live our life. We

  519. want external changes and we have moved a lot of

  520. things in our life, in our house, so that we

  521. can experience a change. But friends, all those external changes

  522. won't happen I come to this realization as being a

  523. leader in the church for some time already, that even

  524. after two hours or three hours of conversation, doesn't really

  525. change a person's life. Although you can walk away thinking,

  526. I achieved what I set out to do. I achieved

  527. what I've done. We go back happy. We go back like, yay.

  528. Only to see this individual.

  529. Hasn't changed and we felt that we just wasted three

  530. hours of our time.

  531. The word repentance here in.

  532. The Amplified Classic Version says that change your will and

  533. purpose to accept God's will, the will of God in

  534. your inner self instead of rejecting it.

  535. To change the way you think. Come on. The word

  536. repentance is to change.

  537. The way you think and accept God's direction instead of

  538. rejecting it. Accept God's direction instead of rejecting it. Sometimes

  539. that's so hard. Again, because we have our own definition

  540. of things. We have an image of how we think

  541. God should move. We have an image of how we

  542. think love should be expressed. We have an image of

  543. how church should be. But all those images, friends, is

  544. nothing if we don't surrender it before the Lord because

  545. God has a plan for every church. God has a

  546. plan for your life. But many times we want our

  547. plans to be accepted, our direction to be accepted, our

  548. advice to be received. But God says, I operate on

  549. a different plane. I'm operating on a different manner. He says,

  550. He's asking us to change our point of view. Change

  551. our point of view. change our purpose, our direction. He's

  552. asking us this morning, he's challenging us this morning, is

  553. that how have we been thinking lately? How do we

  554. see ourselves? The Bible says if you're skillful and trained,

  555. you'll stand before kings, for example, in Proverbs chapter 22.

    Proverbs 22 chapter mention

  556. If you're skillful and trained, you'll stand before kings. The

  557. Bible does not say that if you're If you study hard,

  558. then only you can stand before kings. If you get

  559. good grades, if you have high distinction, you can stand

  560. before kings. No, he says that if you are skillful

  561. and trained, you can stand before kings. God already understands

  562. and knows human potential.

  563. He does. But that only comes when there is submission

  564. to him.

  565. If you look at the life of Joseph, I want

  566. you to imagine right now, I have a diagram, but

  567. you look at the life of Joseph. The life of

  568. Joseph is very interesting because at a certain point of

  569. his life, critical point of his life, he could have

  570. given up. For example, being betrayed by his brothers. Some

  571. of you have brothers here, right? Imagine being betrayed and

  572. sold off by your own kind, by your family.

  573. Betrayed and sold off. I guess the word is that

  574. very drastic, right?

  575. And that formulates, if you are the person that's being

  576. sold off, I want you to imagine right now, You

  577. already formulated that when you get out from this situation, you.

  578. Want to prove a point.

  579. You want to prove a point because you felt that

  580. you were betrayed by someone. We've seen enough Korean dramas already, friends,

  581. to know that whoever has been betrayed by their own

  582. family members always.

  583. Gets correction at the end.

  584. But yet, friends, Joseph kept his heart pure, served in

  585. Potiphar's household, got framed by the wife, put in jail.

  586. At the second point in life, go like, what's the

  587. point of me keeping my heart pure? If I did

  588. something wrong, you put me in prison is one thing.

  589. But I did not do it. I did not do

  590. it and yet I'm in prison.

  591. At the prison, friends, he could have just made a

  592. decision from today onwards. I'm going to transact with the

  593. world in this worldview. I shall be mean, I shall

  594. be tough, I shall be cruel, I shall... I know

  595. a lot of I shalls in prison you could have

  596. made in our daily life, but Joseph did not. He

  597. decided to keep his heart pure, remember that he served

  598. the Lord, got out from prison, only to be betrayed,

  599. to be forgotten, put back into prison again. At the

  600. end of the day, you know the story that he

  601. stands before Pharaoh, governs Egypt. But first, if we don't

  602. change our view, friends, and keep on giving in to

  603. what our heart emotions is for the day, Joseph could

  604. have missed out. We have missed out on a few testimonies.

  605. We have missed out on a few breakthroughs because our

  606. emotions was in the driver's seat. So what did Jesus

  607. say about the Holy Spirit? When the Holy Spirit lives

  608. in us, we will experience supernatural renewal. John 7, 38-39

  609. says that, He who believes in me, as Scripture has said,

  610. out from his heart will flow rivers of living water. Friends,

  611. your heart will flow rivers of living water. Your heart

  612. will be a place whereby you'll be so filled and encouraged.

  613. Your heart will be a place of abundance. Your heart

  614. will be a place whereby God can draw even more.

  615. You will experience supernatural renewal. And no matter what we

  616. go through, a flowing river is full of life. There's

  617. life in the flowing river. The Bible says that He

  618. is also our helper and our teacher. But the helper,

  619. the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name,

  620. He will teach you all things and bring all things,

  621. remembers all things, that I said to you. I want

  622. us to pause for a moment the word helper. To

  623. allow people to come into our life to.

  624. Help us is hard. It is very hard.

  625. To almost say that I can't do it and I

  626. need your help. We've been trained from young to be

  627. independent to, the word is, you know, to manage everything

  628. in the household. To ask for help is hard. To

  629. ask for help when we are older is hard. I

  630. met a guy who had a stroke in his 70s.

  631. I said, why don't you use a cane to walk,

  632. to help you to walk? He said to me, the

  633. moment I start using a cane, I'm telling my body

  634. already that I'm very frail and I need a helper

  635. to walk.

  636. Without this cane, I cannot walk. I refuse. I refuse.

  637. And sometimes our life is like that. I refuse because

  638. I don't want to be dependent on you. I don't

  639. want to be dependent on the cane.

  640. I don't want to be dependent on other people. I

  641. want to be on my own. It is hard.

  642. I got off my phone with my dad yesterday after

  643. one hour on the phone with my dad. Sometimes, anyway,

  644. one hour on the phone with my dad, I said, Dad,

  645. I said, the time will come you have to decide

  646. what you want to do with the rest of your life.

  647. My dad is about 82, 83. I said, you have

  648. to decide.

  649. I said, you want to stay with me, I can

  650. take care of you and stuff like that because the

  651. day will come you cannot drive. The day will come

  652. that you cannot drive, you cannot drive on your own anymore.

  653. You find it hard.

  654. I was listening to another pastor who's I think 81

  655. or 80 or 81. He said, I don't know why

  656. that turning 80 years old, cannot park straight anymore.

  657. I cannot park straight anymore. He said, parking straight is

  658. what I normally.

  659. Do for 80, I mean, 50 years of his life

  660. after he got his driver's license, I can park straight.

  661. But the moment I turned 80, I cannot park straight anymore.

  662. He said that his hearing becomes, he couldn't hear properly anymore.

  663. He said, especially when his wife talked, he couldn't hear

  664. properly anymore.

  665. Right?

  666. And he falls asleep more frequently now than not. It's

  667. hard sometimes to depend on other people. It's hard to say,

  668. I need help. When we are younger, the word is

  669. that we think that we can conquer everything on.

  670. Our own strength.

  671. But God has really His timing whereby there comes a

  672. time in our life we need help.

  673. The Bible says the Holy Spirit is a helper.

  674. I think many times we go through our daily journey,

  675. our daily life, we forget to ask Him for help,

  676. for wisdom in how to navigate, what to do.

  677. The Holy Spirit is given to our advantage.

  678. I want to show you, Peter was with Jesus for

  679. three years, yet he denied Him when Jesus was taken

  680. by the soldier. However, when the Holy Spirit fell upon him,

  681. Peter rose with boldness and preached and became a martyr

  682. for Christ. Peter denied Jesus, but yet when the Holy

  683. Spirit fell upon him, he changed, he became bolder, he

  684. became on fire, surrendered his life to God and died

  685. for Him. I want to let you know the Holy

  686. Spirit can. The Holy Spirit can change our life. When

  687. He captures your heart, He can direct you, teach you.

  688. As I close, friends, let's invite the Holy Spirit and

  689. let us walk, be guided by Him so that our

  690. life glorifies God. Let us invite the Holy Spirit Let

  691. us be guided by Him so that our life will

  692. glorify the Lord. The Spirit of truth has come. He

  693. will guide you to all truth. He will not speak

  694. on His own authority, but whatever He hears, He will speak.

  695. And He will tell you of the things to come.

  696. He will glorify Me. He will take what is of Mine,

  697. declare it to you. Friends, as I close, as I

  698. just want to encourage you, this morning. I pray that

  699. our Christian walk, our Christian faith is not just faith

  700. that's on Sunday. But we'll know what to do when

  701. we hit a problem. We'll know what to do when...

  702. I'm not talking about just a normal problem. I'm talking

  703. about things that are really beyond our control.

  704. We'll know who to turn to, where to ask.

  705. Because if we do not know, then God wants us

  706. to be ready because the times are coming whereby things

  707. are going to become more challenging in our daily life.

  708. He wants us to know, He wants you to know,

  709. He wants you to know today that He's here to

  710. help you. He wants you to know today that you're

  711. not alone. He wants you to remind us that I'm here.

  712. Because it takes a person to change from the inside

  713. out to be able to know. It takes a person

  714. that has invited the Holy Spirit to understand and to know.

  715. As I close, friends, might actually mount on stage as

  716. I close.

  717. I pray that we will not just, the word is just.

  718. Live by tradition. What's your Sunday tradition? Just come to church.

  719. I pray that we will live out by faith, having

  720. a relationship with Him. I pray that you and I

  721. will just turn to the Word and just say, God,

  722. speak to me through this Word because I.

  723. Have a relationship with You. Only God can change our life.

  724. If God can change Peter's life from someone who denied

  725. Him three times, God can change your life. If God

  726. can guide Joseph's life all the way to stand in

  727. front of Pharaoh, God can.

  728. Guide your life as well. But it takes surrender. It

  729. takes God. I need you. It takes God.

  730. Would you take control of my heart? At the end

  731. of the day, friends, it's not just More of God

  732. is really God, would you take control? The hardest thing

  733. for every person here is to release control.

  734. It is so hard. It is so hard. God, take over. God,

  735. take over.

  736. I recently heard a testimony of a mom that was

  737. pregnant Not in our church.

  738. A non-believer.

  739. I think she was only 26 weeks. Only 26 weeks.

  740. Doctors say that, you know, I got to operate you already.

  741. I got to deliver you already because it's not safe anymore.

  742. She really wanted to have the baby. She said, God,

  743. if you are real, if you are real, please save

  744. my child. Please save my child.

  745. Unbelievable. Please save my child. You know, in the quietness.

  746. From a well-to-do family, in the quietness, you know, you

  747. have all the necessary health care, but no peace. All

  748. the health may not do a big difference because it's

  749. beyond your control anymore. So in the quietness of that

  750. war that she was in, she just cried out to God, God,

  751. spare my child. Spare my child. Let her grow up

  752. strong and healthy. Delivered the child. The child grew up

  753. strong and healthy. But the beautiful part is that she

  754. said that God is so real.

  755. Decided, of all things, a non-believer.

  756. She decided to call her child Hosanna.

  757. Called her child Hosanna because God hears. God knows. God knows.

  758. And she gave her life to Christ.

  759. As I close friends, know God is not far, that

  760. He won't hear you. If you know Him more, I

  761. pray that it's about, just God, would you take over,

  762. not just take over God, would you have control of

  763. my life? I know it sounds such a bad word,

  764. the word control, but when you place your life with

  765. someone's hands that cares for you, When you place your

  766. life with someone that loves you more than his own life,

  767. it's very different than placing your life in the hands

  768. of men or government at the end of the day.

  769. Because God is the one that really carries us through.

  770. Carries us through. Elder Terence, I'm sure you'll share a

  771. story that we share with Elder Terence's father was supposed

  772. to go through amputation.

  773. I said, Terrence, you know, your dad is 94.

  774. I said, let's ask God to.

  775. Spare him from going through all this, you know. Spare him.

  776. He prayed.

  777. His BP was fluctuating up and down. I said, my

  778. dad might go home tonight because BP was very low.

  779. But God has a funny sense of humour. I said, why?

  780. I went to see him the next day. He called

  781. me by name. He talked to me like a normal person.

  782. His BP shot up. Like a normal person like that.

  783. Up and down, up and down.

  784. God gave him extra, extra, extra, extra months to be

  785. with the family to say what he needed to say.

  786. But the dad went home to be with the Lord

  787. that day. The whole family rejoiced, saying, I know my

  788. dad is in a better place. But more than that, friends,

  789. the whole journey, friends, God's hand was in it. Every

  790. one of them said God's hand was in it. So

  791. as I close, friends, as I close, I'm not here

  792. to bore you more. So as I close, friends, I

  793. just want to encourage you really today. Today, trust God. Today,

  794. trust Him. Today, know that He wants us to rely

  795. on the Holy Spirit.

  796. He's our helper.

  797. Without Him, friends, without Him, it'd be so hard in

  798. our daily life. But with Him, it's easier. That's why God,

  799. I really understand He knows. He already knows and understands

  800. what we go through every day. That's why He used

  801. the word helper. He used the word teacher. He knows

  802. that we will be lost. Many things we don't understand

  803. what's happening around us. But He understands.

  804. He knows. He's encouraging us this morning to put our

  805. trust in Him.

  806. We hope you've been blessed by this message. For more

  807. information on our church, please visit xchurch.org. We are also

  808. active on Facebook and Instagram. We're believing that this week

  809. is going to be a good week ahead for you.

  810. God bless.
