-
enjoy this week's message. Father, we thank you
-
this morning for your great name and your great,
-
incredible loving kindness and goodness toward
-
us. Even now, Lord, as I stand before your people,
-
I pray, Lord, that your presence would continue
-
to multiply in this place. Lord, what we've experienced
-
in worship, Lord, as we've heard your thoughts
-
and intentions toward this house, even through
-
the prophetic word. God, I'm praying, Lord, we
-
would not get so calloused, Lord, of of spiritual
-
truth and of your glory that we would just, Lord,
-
we'd just settle in. I pray that you would remove,
-
Lord, any calluses that have come over our mind
-
and over our heart. And Lord, that we would be
-
sensitive to your leading Holy Spirit. You're
-
not only the one Holy Spirit who convicts of
-
sin. But Lord, you lead us into righteousness.
-
You lead us into truth. You guide us, Lord, to
-
bring us into what you have for us personally
-
and what you have for us in this church. As your
-
family, we come to you today and say, Lord, you
-
are our greatest treasure. Not the power that
-
we receive to do kingdom things. Not the authority
-
that we have to declare and make declarations
-
as the ecclesia. But the being with you. The
-
hearing you. The walking with you. The daily
-
interface. Lord, let us understand that you're
-
more with us than our phone. And I can feel them
-
on that. I want to make you more alive in my
-
heart's mind. than my phone, that I would know
-
you, that I would hear your voice, and that I
-
would respond, Lord, for you have the ability
-
to capture my attention better than any feed
-
and any scrolling. God, that my heart would be
-
moved by the things of your Spirit. I thank you.
-
Lord, I just say even now that In my own heart,
-
Lord, as much as I am dependent on communication
-
and information, Lord, I'm asking you to help
-
me make a turn even greater in a dial and frequency
-
of less dependence on that phone and that computer
-
and more dependence upon being totally connected
-
to you. Help us, Lord. This morning as we open
-
the scriptures, Lord, we can see in the context
-
of the passage, Lord, how simple it is to fall
-
under the weight of tradition, of religion, Lord,
-
and just come up with our own versions of how
-
you will respond and when you will respond. God,
-
today I'm asking for, I know it dates me, Somebody
-
may have to give an interpretation of what a
-
typewriter is. But Lord, we're pulling the paper
-
out of the typewriter and starting again. We're
-
pulling that sheet out and we're saying, my expectations
-
according to religion and tradition of what I
-
think I know, I'm pulling it out and I'm saying,
-
Lord, type afresh. Type afresh upon the letterhead
-
of my heart and my mind. In Jesus Christ's holy
-
name. Amen. Just as I said that, I just looked
-
down at my iPad and it said, the amount of hours
-
you spent this last week on, it wasn't good.
-
I'm not going to tell you. Hallelujah. Wow. Devil.
-
Anyway, would you open your Bibles to John chapter
-
four, please? John chapter four. I know we have
-
taken a look at this. passage of scripture. It's
-
a famous passage and it's something that can
-
be preached in a variety of ways and we've done
-
some of it and I'm going to continue to walk
-
through this passage and I'm praying that the
-
Holy Spirit will give us a fresh revelation this
-
morning of some of the things that need to be
-
freshly put on our mind. You know, you heard
-
me pray it, kind of conversational prayer. I
-
had an opportunity to be, as we're part of Ministers
-
Fellowship International, which is a relationship
-
-based organization of ministers and elders and
-
churches, but primarily started out for ministers
-
to have independent churches that had no denominational
-
affiliation to walk together that had similar
-
theology and doctrine. and that were filled with
-
the Holy Spirit, that wanted to have other people
-
that would join alongside of them so that we
-
didn't have to walk alone as independent churches.
-
And that was the original heart of the starting
-
of MFI, started by kind of our grandfather in
-
the faith, Brother Dick Iverson, and our pastor,
-
mentor, Pastor Frank, Dr. Frank DiMaggio. That
-
started about 30... Next year will be 40 years
-
that it started ago. And now, as Jenny and I
-
just finished attending that conference, I was
-
amazed. We had to do two conferences, so I was
-
there all week. We're now MFI that started with
-
just, I remember when it was 35, 40 churches.
-
I begin to hear the beginning of it. And then
-
I was shocked when Jenny and I came in, it was
-
about 80 to 100 churches. And now there's over
-
14 ,000 churches represented around the world
-
and more network affiliations. God is doing a
-
tremendous thing in the body of Christ around
-
the world. And getting to see, being with leaders
-
all around. Europe, but nations are taking the
-
mandate to disciple and to gather pastors in
-
countries. And we now have, I think, 20 different
-
affiliates that are like MFI America. We have
-
it all over the world in various continents.
-
And so God is doing amazing things. One thing
-
that I thought was particularly interesting,
-
and this always happens to me, and so I always
-
try to bring you into my mind, at least the good
-
part of it, bring you into my thought process
-
and what I believe God is speaking and saying
-
and doing. Part of my responsibility at MFI is
-
I'm a regional director of the Southern Oregon.
-
It's basically from the border of Idaho to the
-
Pacific Ocean, from Northern California up to
-
around Salem plus area. And in addition to that,
-
Jenny and I always get asked to do prophetic
-
ministry over pastors. And that's something that
-
they offer at the conference that we do, just
-
giving ourselves to that. And I did that two
-
times in about three hour sessions. For couples
-
that pastors that have signed up, whether they're
-
international or national, we don't know until
-
they get there who they are or what they're doing.
-
And we do that to really to not have any information
-
so that God's real word could actually speak
-
to them, right? that there's no data mining.
-
There's no information. Look at people. I don't
-
even, when people told me that, you know, people
-
are data mining things, I'm like, what does that
-
even mean? But I guess you have to have Facebook
-
and Instagram accounts and all that stuff to
-
do that. I don't have any of that. So when they
-
said, well, I said, well, can we have their names
-
this morning? And they go, no, we don't want
-
you to look them up. I said, look them up where?
-
And then it caught on. Oh, you don't. have any
-
accounts of that? I said, no. Well, you're probably
-
okay to know their name then. I guess that's
-
a thing in the body of Christ and it's a shame
-
because the Holy Spirit can actually speak to
-
you everything you need. That's the whole goal.
-
The legitimate expression of God doesn't need
-
any help. And in that process, as Jetty and I
-
were at the conference, I'm going to be careful
-
here because many times As you go into things
-
like this and you're ministering to pastors all
-
over the world and we're there not only as a
-
leadership team but representing our church and
-
representing what God has done with us in that
-
circle. I have to say this without, it has nothing
-
to do with Jenny and I. It has everything to
-
do with God's desire to do what he's longing
-
to do here as you're pulling on the rope of heaven.
-
I can't tell you, well, James was there and John
-
Rist was there. I can't tell you how incredible
-
it is. Just the worship service we had this morning,
-
the difference between, and I'm gonna say this
-
carefully because I know it's live, between those
-
that have given themselves to flow in the Spirit
-
and have chosen, they want the Spirit over time
-
and over agenda. It's a night and day difference.
-
It's a night and day difference. Now, what does
-
that mean? It costs you. It costs you. It costs
-
you, oh, what are we gonna do this afternoon?
-
Oh, Life Bible two -hour church versus the drive
-
-through. I'm telling you. I was in the room
-
with thousands and thousands of people for a
-
week. There's nothing like what we have here
-
on this morning. It's true. And it's not that
-
we don't value people's time. We do. But I value
-
the Holy Spirit's time more than my own. And
-
I think it's important. You know, sometimes as
-
a voice, a prophetic or maybe an apostolic voice
-
trying to As the Lord wants to use that, that's
-
up to him. But I'm amazed of what I feel and
-
what I see in the body of Christ. And I do believe
-
revival, or if you will, an outpouring, probably
-
better is an outpouring of the Holy Spirit is
-
coming. But I think in all of us, there is room
-
for us to have to grow in our love, and what
-
love actually means to the Holy Spirit. You know,
-
as you study the Ephesian church, and I'm just
-
kind of, these are not on my notes, so this is
-
my preamble here. You study what God came to
-
the Apostle John to speak to the seven churches
-
about the church of Ephesus and how incredible
-
that church was and the things that they were
-
doing. When you study a little bit of history
-
about Ephesus, they were an incredible congregation.
-
However, they lost something that God had to
-
bring a word to them right in the very beginning.
-
They're the first church that God would speak
-
to through the apostle John. Getting revelation
-
on the Isle of Patmos. He said I need you to
-
send a message to these seven churches. First
-
church he would send a message. It wasn't Laodicea
-
was the last church. But the first church was
-
Ephesus. Which was a spiritually minded. Kingdom
-
of God advancing. destroying principalities,
-
powers, and strongholds. The only book, Ephesus,
-
Ephesian church, the only book that he wrote
-
specifically hierarchy and how to defeat certain
-
things because they were there fighting the temple
-
of Diana or Artemis, this worldwide thing that
-
went around the world of this idol that was sent
-
because they saw something fall from the ground
-
and that was their religion and this demonic
-
entity. He had to come into a church and say,
-
you've done a lot of great things, but you're
-
missing an element. You're missing an element
-
that I will have to, in the midst of your greatness
-
and advancing the kingdom and your stellar understanding
-
of church government and ferreting out the false
-
apostles and prophets, I'm still gonna have to
-
come in and remove your lampstand if this doesn't
-
shift. Now that's a big deal because we're talking
-
about, are you all right? I'm just kind of speaking
-
to you a little bit this morning, but we'll get
-
to the text in a bit. We're talking now about
-
another text, Revelation chapter two, verse one
-
through four. Okay. The reality is, is I'm going
-
to remove you. I'm going to have to remove your
-
lampstand. They have to understand when we see
-
the picture of Jesus, as the, as the scriptures
-
open up and John sees Jesus totally different.
-
That he saw them on earth. He saw him in his
-
rule. He saw him in his power. He saw him in
-
his glory. That's why he said his hair was white
-
as wool. His feet as fine brass. His garments
-
as white and a golden sash. And his eyes were
-
like flame of fire. He was looking into the reality
-
of the purity of the son of God. Who now had
-
the authority. Not only the power. The authority.
-
But the title. of you now have all authority
-
in heaven and earth from the father and when
-
john sees him was radically different than how
-
that very same truth was hidden in the humanity
-
yet they had glimpses from time to time one being
-
the mountain of transfiguration and one of the
-
things that overwhelmed john was the title that
-
jesus would give john in the very beginning I
-
am the first and the last. I am. And he would
-
go through these various processes of titles.
-
Those all represent the reality of who Jesus
-
is. Fact is, if you just turn there right now,
-
Trent, to the process of Revelation chapter one,
-
are you there? Okay. Can I see it? What kind
-
of translation are you reading here? ESV, okay.
-
You still have a job. All right. Let me read
-
this. John to the seven churches, grace to you
-
and peace from him who was, grace and peace from
-
him who is, who was and who is to come. Notice
-
the first thing. that the Holy Spirit says from
-
Jesus, and I need you to get this, the very first
-
thing that John's revelation begins with is what?
-
He's the one who is. That's where the church,
-
it's where you and I have to begin to tap into
-
a fresh reality of walking with him daily. Because
-
it's very easy in the church to talk about who
-
Jesus was. And it's very easy to talk about who
-
Jesus will be when he comes. You think about
-
all the things that you listen to in church and
-
it focuses on what? Most of the time it focuses
-
on who was and who is to come. But the big moment
-
right now, and this is all that I, I'll give
-
this back to you. The big moment right now is
-
what? I'm finally getting warmed up. Is the,
-
is the reality of do you know him as he is right
-
now? Is he talking to you? Is he leading you?
-
Is he guiding you? And are you in a communion
-
relationship with him, not just once every month
-
at communion Sunday, but communing with his spirit
-
on a daily basis? Because see, if we believe
-
that the era of one, man or one woman having
-
a ministry that's platform and that everybody
-
else receives, if we believe that that era is
-
over, and I do, that it's not about the big evangelist
-
anymore. It's about the church being the evangelist.
-
It's not about the big healing ministry. It's
-
the church having the healing ministry. It's
-
not about, right, only a few prophets. No, it's
-
about All of God's people should learn to prophesy
-
correctly. Man, there's a lot I want to say on
-
that right now, but I'm going to, you need to
-
be all coming to my Wednesday night class on
-
the prophetic because a lot of what you're getting
-
on the internet is mixed with divination. A lot
-
of it. In fact, as most of the things that are
-
driving the political stuff that's being said
-
through the body of Christ is a mixture of divination.
-
Because why? It's devoid of the cross. And it's
-
devoid of the church. And it's devoid of it actually
-
operating to change your character and move you
-
toward being formed in the image of Christ. It
-
is entertainment driven. It is fear and entertainment
-
driven, which is divination. Welcome back, Pastor.
-
Hallelujah. You see, the spirit of prophecy is
-
the what? Testimony of Jesus. Jesus comes to
-
what? transform your heart transform your mind
-
transform your life to bring inside of you the
-
work of glory on the inside not to give you insight
-
of what's coming because you want to get rid
-
of anxiety and you want to get rid of something
-
so you get a prophetic word that calms you that
-
you keep going back to be entertained much like
-
you'd pull out your phone to get a newsreel hello
-
And if that's how you listen to prophecy, you've
-
actually come under a curse. Because you didn't
-
actually go there to hear how God can actually
-
work in you the power of his cross, the power
-
of resurrection, and the power to transform you
-
that brings the encouragement from the Holy Spirit,
-
the strength of the Holy Spirit, the future of
-
the Holy Spirit to work in you no matter the
-
situation. And when the prophetic disconnects
-
from the cross, the resurrection, and the building
-
of the church, which is not a building, it's
-
people, through edification, comfort, strength,
-
it's moved to have a mixture of entertainment
-
so that fear gets removed. Because why? I didn't
-
come to it in faith. I came to it just to get
-
calmed. Okay, I'm going to keep moving. I'm just
-
dropping a few bombs and then we'll just move
-
on. But come Wednesday night, that's my plug
-
to hear how you, because see, listening to the
-
voice of God is imperative. We're all supposed
-
to have that gift. It's a gift that comes automatically
-
with salvation. My sheep hear my voice. So the
-
goal of the prophetic is to what? Deepen the
-
river of God inside of you to hear him more accurately.
-
Which leads us to our text in John chapter 4.
John 4 chapter mention
-
John chapter 4. I'm going to start in verse 3.
John 4 chapter mention
-
Jesus left Judea and departed again for Galilee.
-
And he had to pass through Samaria. So Jesus
-
came down to a town of Samaria called Sychar.
-
Near the field that Jacob had given to his son
-
Joseph. And Jacob's well was there. I'm tempted
-
just to speak on the field and the well, but
-
let's just note it in the journey. Notice there's
-
a field of inheritance and there's a well of
-
inheritance. Why is that important? Because God
-
says, There's an inheritance in you as well.
-
This is not just some Old Testament story that
-
is now in the Gospels that represent prior to
-
Jesus' cross and his resurrection. This just
-
isn't that which was the inheritance. This is
-
talking about your and my inheritance. Why? 1
-
Corinthians 3, 9. You are God's field. And if
-
anybody should get excited in this room about
-
what I'm teaching, it should be us. Why? Because
-
he's going to Samaria. He's going to the ones
-
that were not. Just the ones that were born according
-
to natural descent. He was coming to a region
-
that had mixture. He was coming to a people that
-
had been rejected. He was coming to a people
-
that had Gentile influence. And he was about
-
to show that the inheritance according to the
-
old field and the old well is going to be superseded
-
by him doing something in the field of the person
-
and developing a well of the spirit inside of
-
them. You see, you don't have to come to one
-
place to get a well on the inheritance of something
-
of yesterday. God comes, oh man, God comes to
-
drill a well in you. Come on. There's so many
-
ways to preach that, but just hear it. He comes
-
to sink a well in your field. That's the beauty
-
of this story. And I even hate to say, I get
-
ticked off and I tell Jen this all the time.
-
Stop, tell the preacher to quit saying it's a
-
story. It's an account. It's history. It actually
-
happened. It's not some made up. So shame on
-
me. Okay. In this account, God is looking to
-
make a parallel. Between the one that had been
-
a complete outcast. At every level. Woman. Adulterer.
-
Gentile. You can't find a narrative in more of
-
the religious setting. Than the person that Jesus
-
met at the well in John 4. She's excluded at
-
every part of society. As the Jews would look
-
at it. And Jesus, if we just take it as the woman
-
herself, and we don't actually expand the context
-
and see it, that it is all of us. See, John 4,
-
oh man. Okay, John 4, let me say it the most
-
simplest way. It's only two chapters away from
-
John 2. I know, brilliant, deep, amazing. Okay.
-
Why would I reference, I know, Trent, grab a
-
hold of this. It's changing your life right now.
-
Okay. John 2 was what? The first miracle Jesus
-
did in Cana of where? Where? Galilee. Jesus was
-
going back again. He had left Cana. Now he's
-
going back again. Where is he going back to?
-
He's going back to Galilee. And now Cana of Galilee
-
has to do with what? Well, we'll talk about it.
-
John 2, well, we won't talk about it today, but
-
we will talk about it. John 2 was what? The miracle
-
of what? Water into wine. Now he's coming back
-
in John 4, and he's coming back to land and to
-
a well. to a people that had access to natural
-
things of yesterday, of generations who knew
-
their God. But now he's coming back to stand
-
by a well of natural water to the one who himself
-
is living water. You see, it's not removed from
-
John 2. John 2 miracle of water into wine is
-
absolutely connected to... John 4, I, if you
-
knew who it was that was talking with you, you'd
-
ask me for a drink and I would give you living
-
water. It's connected to the same experience.
-
It's connected to the same understanding that
-
people had been locked into. natural thinking,
-
natural traditions according to what they knew
-
from generation to generation past, what was
-
protocol, what was not protocol, how to live
-
based on that understanding of the covenant that
-
was given by God through Moses versus now Jesus
-
coming and in John removing the religion and
-
the tradition to open them up to actually have
-
a relationship, here it is, to the God who is.
-
You see, everything that had happened in the
-
law of Moses in their generations, not Moses'
-
generation, because in Moses' generation, in
-
the giving of the law, he was the God who is.
-
The God who is what? Took him up on the mountain.
-
The God who is what? Showed him the vision. The
-
God who is said, make this according to what
-
you have seen and heard. Doesn't that sound familiar
-
to New Testament minds? Make sure that you're
-
both seeing and hearing. Isn't that what John
-
the Revelator? I know, I'm just tying some things
-
together. Isn't that what John the Revelator
-
actually heard? Revelation chapter four, verse
-
one. I heard a voice like the sound of mighty
-
rushing waters. Cana, waters into wine. John
-
four, you would ask me to drink and I would give
-
you rivers of living water. John seven, pouring
-
out the pitcher. Out of your innermost being
-
shall flow rivers of living water. Why was it
-
significant that John, that Revelation 4 .1,
-
I heard the voice behind me sound like mighty
-
rushing waters and I turned and I looked and
-
I saw. You see the difference? Moses went up,
-
he heard, he saw. Now we're coming to a new covenant
-
and it's still connected to the same principle.
-
Hearing and seeing to the one who is living waters.
-
All right, haven't even got out of verse four
-
yet. Okay, John 4, 4. And he passed through Samaria.
-
He came to a town called Sychar near the field
-
that Jacob had given his son Joseph. Jacob's
-
well was there. All right, let's keep going on.
-
So Jesus, wearied as he was from his journey,
-
was sitting by the well. Stop. This proves that
-
Jesus was not operating in the manifested nature
-
of his attributes with God as the eternal word
-
operating in his God divinity while he was on
-
the earth. It proves he got weary. God doesn't
-
get weary. If God was going to get weary, he'd
-
have got weary a long time ago with our complaints.
-
So this absolutely speaks to the nature that
-
Jesus laid down or stepped out of his prerogative
-
of being co -equal with the Father and submitted
-
himself as a son of God to the direction of the
-
Father through the capacity of hearing the Holy
-
Spirit. Why? It's a model for you and I. It's
-
a remind this well. And Jesus is a reminder that
-
he was made like us. Turn to somebody and say,
-
he's like you. And guess what? In his flesh,
-
he could get weary like you do, which is we can
-
just preach off this statement that taking long
-
walks are not godly. No, just, I'm just kidding.
-
Kidding. He got weary with a long walk. Jesus
-
was weary. I know, wow. Anyway, I have so many
-
things I'd like to say at this point, but we're
-
going to keep going in the text. Jesus was weary
-
from the journey, from his journey, and was sitting
-
beside a well. I mean, look at the prophetic
-
picture in the scriptures. Here is the well of
-
heaven sitting. On the well of the earth. Here's
-
the well of heaven. I mean just. Jesus. The very
-
well spring of heaven. Sits on the side. Of a
-
well given by the. Ancestors to give water. As
-
natural relief. And here. In the midst of a place
-
that everyone would go. To drink for their natural
-
life. Is the life of God. Sitting. on the side
-
of a well. So many times we, we miss the little
-
details that, that the scripture brings to bring
-
this, this, this account to life. It's, it's,
-
if we could say it this way, it's prophetic.
-
Meaning when I use the word prophetic, I'm not
-
talking, I'm talking about it's insightful that
-
everything God does in the scriptures speaks
-
way deeper than just a casual read. There are
-
layers to the revelation in the word as you begin
-
to move through context, as you move through
-
the historicity of it, as you move through why
-
would these people come? What was their inheritance?
-
Why was this so important? The levels keep going
-
of how God begins to now bring Jesus into our
-
now. Because remember, we started this morning
-
off with the one who is. Yes, we could spend
-
sermon after sermon on the God who was, formed
-
before time, co -equal with the Father, giving
-
all of his plan that was hidden and yet manifested.
-
And sometimes when we read the scriptures, we
-
still... gravitate back to even in our new testament
-
understanding we gravitate back to the god who
-
was where i believe the holy spirit's trying
-
to move his church to be able to be the company
-
of people that do what that actually do the works
-
in jesus name they can't do that off a god who
-
was revelation and they can't do that in an understanding
-
of the one who's coming revelation. They have
-
to be able to do that as the one who is because
-
they're walking with him. And in that journey
-
of walking with him, they're hearing the now
-
voice of God. They know their doctrine. They
-
know what was written as Jesus would use to substantiate
-
things. Is it not written? That's a reference
-
to the God who was. and who is and who is to
-
come, but it's focusing on the was. Is it not
-
written? Bring you back to what was the revelation
-
that's still in play today. See, everything that
-
we see in scripture, everything that, and this
-
should help you with your doctrinal understanding,
-
at least it helps me with mine, in the fact of
-
even how I minister, is everything of how I minister
-
is in the God who was, is, and is to come. Because
-
if I don't have that understanding that God works
-
within the framework of was bringing it now,
-
is bringing it to the conclusion, I'm going to
-
be blind. I'm going to miss dimensions of how
-
God can speak to me and speak to others. Because
-
the goal, and I'm kind of getting off track here,
-
but it's on track. The goal is if I'm laying
-
hands on somebody, again, I don't mean like at
-
that level. I'm not laying hands on there to
-
impart a prayer. I should be sensitive that the
-
Holy Spirit will be speaking to three areas.
-
And this is how the true prophetic works. It
-
speaks of the area of the cross. It speaks of
-
the area of transformation. And it speaks of
-
God's awareness. And then it speaks of God's
-
awareness in all of her life. And then it speaks
-
to her future and it leaves an impartation. That's
-
why I say true prophetic impartation is like
-
a Holy Ghost three -speed transmission. First
-
gear is what was. That God will be able to speak
-
to you what has happened in your life. Only he'll
-
be gracious about the things that you walk through
-
and he'll reveal how he was there and reveal
-
instances that only you can know. that he was
-
there. Because he sees in the dark as well as
-
the light. Things that you walk through, he'll
-
be able to speak through. If you receive a true,
-
genuine word from the Lord, he will let you know
-
he was there in those times. And then he'll speak
-
to your now. He'll speak to your, I'm gonna move
-
over here. He'll speak to what's happening in
-
your life right now. And then he moves to the
-
future. And that only God can give an appropriate
-
future. Only God can speak what is needed for
-
you in your next seasons because he holds all
-
of them in your hand. Are you there? If you understand
-
what Jesus is about to do with the woman at the
-
well, you're going to see that Jesus speaks to
-
the past, to the present, and to the future.
-
He actually moves through the prophetic transmission
-
of the Holy Ghost. in what she has been, what
-
she has done, how he views her and what he wants
-
to do in her life after the encounter. That is
-
the nature of true prophetic. What often, I'm
-
getting pulled back to this. What often happens,
-
and there's nothing wrong with a now word, an
-
is word, but what happens when you go to a prophetic
-
meeting or, and it's not. you see this transmit,
-
let me just say it this way. You see the Holy
-
Spirit transmission in operation when there are
-
what we call presbytery meetings. What's a presbytery?
-
It means that where there's three, two, three,
-
four prophetic voices waiting on God to hear
-
what to speak over a person's life. Usually for
-
a setting in or promotion of ministry. Because
-
they've passed the test or they've moved into
-
a place of effectiveness or God wants to call
-
them out. And normally when you get in that setting,
-
you'll listen to who God was in their life, what
-
he did in the bringing them forward, what he's
-
doing right now, and then what they're designed
-
to do. And that's where you begin to really see
-
the, I call the full canopy of the prophetic.
-
Oftentimes we go to prophetic meeting. And we
-
only get the now touch. And there's nothing wrong
-
with a now touch. How many would take a touch
-
from Jesus right now, right? Okay. There's nothing
-
wrong with the now touch. But the now touch does
-
not deal usually with your future. It usually,
-
if it's genuine from the Lord, it will settle
-
some issues and be confirmation to you. And it's
-
a conformational moment in your now. thing that
-
you're facing. But it oftentimes does not go
-
back and bring an awareness of who God was as
-
he walked you through to that point. It's a sign
-
of God just touching you in your now moment,
-
giving you strength and encouragement to keep
-
on. Jesus with the woman at the well, and I want
-
you to see this as part of the effective process
-
of how Jesus ministers salvation. among the Gentiles
-
or among the mixed is what? He brought the full
-
package. He brought the God who was, he brought
-
the God who is, and he brings the God who is
-
to come. Now, as he's sitting beside this well,
-
about the sixth hour, there came a woman of Samaria
-
to draw water. And Jesus said to her, give me
-
a drink. For his disciples had gone away into
-
the city to buy a subway. No, to buy food. And
-
the Samaritan woman said to Jesus, how is it
-
that you, a Jew, ask for a drink from me, a woman
-
of Samaria? For the Jews had no dealings with
-
the Samaritans. Now I'm looking at the time and
-
I'm gonna need to get somebody up here. Who's
-
the, okay. Play me some mysterious Samaritan
-
woman type compromised music. Hallelujah. I bring
-
you into 33 years of wonderful marriage of the
-
things that I've asked of her on the stage over
-
33 years of ministry. Can you play it like this?
-
Why don't you come over here and do it, buddy?
-
Anyways, it's a little banter we have back and
-
forth. Anyway, I enjoy it. I'm not so sure how
-
much she does, but I need you to, in the text
-
here, I need you to understand that Jesus is
-
actually speaking to you this morning. Because
-
the woman's response is most likely in some sort
-
related to any response that you're going to
-
run into. As you get divine appointments and
-
listening to Jesus personally. A little more
-
compromised. Can you play minor? Maybe minor.
-
That is minor. Can you go down? Just a little
-
more depressive. There we go. Here's this woman
-
coming. Laden down. The sixth hour of the day
-
in the hot sun. When nobody comes to the well.
-
Carrying her. There you go. Kind of carrying
-
the jars and nobody's around. Okay, that's a
-
little dark. Nobody's around to have fellowship
-
with. She's by herself. She's carrying what she
-
needed to try to recognize the only thing that
-
she needed to sustain life at that moment was
-
water. But everything in her life had nothing
-
that was sustaining of life. And this is who
-
the church is going to. This is who we're running
-
into. This is your this afternoon or tomorrow
-
morning. Is you're running into people who have
-
come to just think survival. Fact is, I can prophesy
-
to you this morning what's in me. What is coming
-
on the earth. What Christians think. Things that
-
will shake. Water supplies. Food supplies. storage
-
supplies, financial supplies. And we're going
-
to have to have enough Jesus inside of us to
-
be able to sit at those wells where people are
-
coming out of survival, having a different supply.
-
I don't yet feel like my job this morning is
-
to prophesy what I see coming. But what I tell
-
you, I'm telling you right now. It has to look
-
different than the church has looked because
-
the church has thought we'll do it in abundance
-
of natural things. We'll do it in abundance the
-
way the world wants to solve poverty and homelessness.
-
Why do you think the push for socialism is happening
-
so hard right now? If you would just lift your
-
eyes and come up above it just a little bit.
-
you would see that the devil is absolutely showing
-
you what he knows is about to come from the heart
-
of God. And he's moving people to try to shift
-
them in the natural, to be dependent upon natural
-
things instead of actually the heart of God that
-
actually says, doesn't mean that we don't, of
-
course we come with natural things and natural
-
resources, but that's not what comes first. Did
-
you notice? That Jesus didn't come in what is
-
the temporary evangelism of most seeker sensitive
-
churches. I know I just stepped in a big pile
-
here. He didn't come with, oh, here's your free
-
water supply. And here's some food too. Can I
-
pray for you? That's what Jesus did. The exact
-
opposite. I need something from you. What? I
-
thought you were supposed to be there for me.
-
Give me something. Well, I want to give you something.
-
But you. You need something different than what
-
you're striving for. You actually need something
-
that has been missing all along that doesn't
-
come with a little grocery bag and a couple of
-
pre -water supply bottles of why you came to
-
this well. Now, I know I overemphasize and I'm
-
gonna get emails. It's pastorscott at lifebiblechurch
-
.org. What did Jesus do? Jesus put a demand on
-
something that shocked her, number one. That
-
he would ask something of her. That he, number
-
one, had a conversation with her. Number two,
-
would ask something before he ever gave something.
-
How many church programs have we heard over the
-
last 25 years that it's all about us giving something
-
so they're willing to receive something? John
-
4 seems to disagree with that. Now, do I believe
-
in giving to the poor? Absolutely. Do we give
-
to the poor? Do we feed? Yes. Do we do all sorts
-
of things around the world and here locally?
-
Yes. That's why we do God's storehouse every
-
month. That's why we sow into it generously every
-
year. None of these things escape me. But what
-
I'm pushing at this morning is, do you see how
-
Jesus does things different? Because it's got
-
to be different than what was. It has to move
-
into what is. And it has to move into being sensitive
-
to the Holy Spirit and not being afraid to ask
-
questions or ask to move into a deeper relationship
-
of what really is the hindrances. How is it that
-
you, a Jew, for a drink from me, a Samaritan,
-
you see every one of you, Every one of you that
-
has the real Jesus inside of you looks and feels
-
different to those that don't. They'll know.
-
They'll know. Even though one wears a baseball
-
cap and one is flaunting his hair to me. By the
-
simple relationship with Jesus, they're going
-
to look different to their age group. The question
-
is, are they flesh? Yeah, he has some flesh still.
-
I won't name it out. Not today, at least. Okay.
-
Are they still growing? Yes. Are they being transformed?
-
Yes. But just even in the midst of all of our
-
journeys, because we all have flesh and we're
-
all being saved by grace, just the fact of what's
-
inside of both of these young men automatically
-
speaks out loud and they'll know a difference.
-
Our problem is we've trained ourselves to try
-
to fit in with the crowd rather than fit in with
-
Jesus. And that was the difference. The world
-
automatically recognized soon as Jesus just being
-
who he was. He didn't announce, oh, by the way,
-
let me introduce myself. I'm the word that always
-
has been and with God from the beginning. Nice
-
to meet you. He didn't start there by giving
-
his fact that he is co -equal with God, the Father
-
and the Holy Spirit. He just was in his normal
-
clothes, not in some, he wasn't in priestly garb.
-
Folks, he was on a walk. I don't know, maybe
-
even wearing some Lululemon type of athletic
-
gear. I don't know. Probably not. But the reality
-
was he had dressed for what? Walking. He was
-
tired. Every element that you and I experienced.
-
He wasn't going to the temple. He didn't put
-
on his Sunday best. He was not operating in priestly
-
robes. There was no distinction that somehow
-
he was the elevated Shemekah rabbi that everyone...
-
No, no, no. He was just in his normal... Resting
-
pulls a Jewish male now traveling on a road through
-
a foreign country. I don't know about you, but
-
if I've traveled through a foreign country, I
-
am not trying to stick out. The fact is, it's
-
the opposite. I stick out automatically. Okay?
-
I remember traveling through Cambodia. We're
-
walking through the market, and I'm in my just
-
travel pants and a shirt and a little thing,
-
and he goes, Hey! And he's talking to his little
-
Cambodian friends. He goes, no Buddha, no Buddha.
-
This one, Buddha. Pointing at my figure, my bald
-
head. I said, come here. The point is, you stick
-
out in your everyday journey just because of
-
what's inside of you. Jesus stuck out to her
-
because he obviously was different. He was a
-
male. He wasn't trying to be female. Come on.
-
He wasn't trying to, he wasn't cross -dressing,
-
he wasn't doing any of that crazy stuff. He was
-
being just Jesus dressed in appropriate clothing,
-
now sitting at the well, the spiritual well,
-
sitting at the natural well, and just interaction,
-
interaction from a person who knows God in itself
-
is shocking. Why? Because most people expect
-
us to be What happens in the Samaritan account,
-
we walk along the other side of the road. Why?
-
Because we got to get going someplace. I got
-
appointments to take care of. I got things to
-
do. I don't have time to sit down and engage
-
with people. How many of us has fallen guilty
-
as charged? All sometimes we have to do is in
-
the moment of where we're at, just ask ourselves
-
in that moment. I'm going to pray for us in a
-
second. And Holy Spirit, I haven't been thinking
-
about I'm tired. I got to go to work. I'm on
-
my lunch break. But you know what, Lord? I'm
-
sitting here at this table. I just want to eat
-
my lunch in peace. But honestly, I've trained
-
myself to want peace for my own self when others
-
are not living in any peace that I know. Now
-
speak to me while I'm eating my lunch. Is there
-
anybody you need me to have a conversation with?
-
And show me. I need you. See that's the beginning
-
of John chapter 4. Is to take the things that
John 4 chapter mention
-
we take for granted. The natural things. And
-
recognize that what's in us. If you've accepted
-
Jesus. And been filled with the spirit of God.
-
You have that eternal spring in you. And God
-
wants to actually use you. He desires to use
-
you. The fact is. It's in this next season of
-
the church's history that Christians will come
-
back to what they had in the first century. All
-
of God's people being used to evangelize, to
-
share the testimony of Jesus. He's got to change
-
our heart. He's got to change our heart to want
-
to be with him connected every moment. The Wi
-
-Fi signal of your spirit needs to be boosted.
-
so that you're constantly aware. It should be
-
a conscious thought. I'm having to train myself
-
the same way I'm talking to you because it's
-
really easy with all the appointments, all the
-
schedule, all the needs to not give room to the
-
now. Would you pray with me this morning? Father,
-
in Jesus' name, Lord, this morning, Lord, in
-
the midst of thoughts, in the midst of the text,
-
I'm asking now, according to your great word,
-
that we would be conscious. You would open our
-
minds, our hearts to conscious thoughts of Jesus
-
who is. Who is right now. Who is right here in
-
the moment. Who is right with me. Who is speaking
-
to me. Who is wanting just to fellowship with
-
me. Wanting me to be aware of his will and his
-
desire. actually use me, that I'm a vessel to
-
be used. Change me, Jesus. I'm no longer that
-
old religious pot of water in John 2. I'm now
-
a vessel that contains the new wine that's made
-
to be drank from. Take out of my life, Lord,
-
that which you've changed. and let people sip
-
it and say, if he can do that for him or her,
-
what can he do for me? Let me not be afraid of
-
conversations. Let me not be afraid of not fitting
-
in in the flesh. Let my heart's intent be to
-
fit in with the Jesus who's now walking on the
-
earth in me. I pray this now for this church
-
family as we move forward. In a new season. We've
-
celebrated 25 years. Of your goodness. And now
-
we move into a new season. Of Jesus. The one
-
who is. And the one who is to come. And who was.
-
But our is. Jesus is. Is expanding. And we are.
-
Walking with him. As he walks in us. On the earth.
-
Wherever we go. We love you Lord. I bless these
-
precious people. In Jesus' name we pray. We would
-
love to pray with you.
