  6. see our website at lifebiblechurch .org. Now,

  7. enjoy this week's message. Would you just join

  8. me in prayer and let's just turn our attention

  9. to Him. Heavenly Father, Lord, in the name of

  10. Jesus, we come tonight. or this morning. We've

  11. come to worship. We've come to adore you. We've

  12. come to set our hearts before you, bring you

  13. worship from our lips and from the very essence

  14. of who we are and what you've done for us. We

  15. thank you for the spirit of grace. We thank you,

  16. Lord, for your mercies, your kindness. God, that

  17. you would continue to grow in us a desire, and

  18. a hunger, and a holy awe for you, for your word,

  19. and for your purposes, and for the things of

  20. your spirit. So Jesus, we say, anoint your word

  21. this morning. Open the path, Lord, in the scriptures

  22. that would be illuminated. For your word is holy

  23. and true, all of it. The logos is both living

  24. and alive. But I'm asking you, As the scripture

  25. says in Psalms, your word is a lamp unto my feet

  26. and a light unto my path. Holy Spirit, open up,

  27. Lord, the direct path for this service, for these

  28. people that are here, that they may be fed, strengthened,

  29. encouraged, challenged, and transformed. In Jesus

  30. Christ's holy name. And everybody said. Amen.

  31. Amen. Amen. Would you tell the band they did

  32. a great job this morning? Appreciate them. Well,

  33. there's a lot on my heart and in my mind this

  34. morning. I'd like you to open your Bibles if

  35. you would. We're going to continue a little bit,

  36. but might be a little bit different flair from

  37. where we have been just in a series. We're talking

  38. about Jesus, the path from Passover to Pentecost.

  39. I didn't get very far in first service. In fact,

  40. as I probably went backwards more than I went

  41. forwards in what we've already been studying.

  42. So we'll kind of take a look at things, but I

  43. want you to put your finger in the gospel of

  44. John. chapter 4, and I'd like you also to find

    John 4 chapter mention

  45. the book of Revelation. I know it gets scary

  46. when I say that. People are like, oh, the book

  47. of Revelation, chapter 1, and put your finger

    Revelation 1 chapter mention

  48. in there, and hopefully you brought your Bibles.

  49. Anyways, we want you to turn there if you can.

  50. I want to just share with you a little bit. I

  51. try to, as I often do when Jenny and I are traveling,

  52. bring you back some reports of what we do and

  53. how we do it and what God is doing. And this,

  54. we've been gone. We left Sunday right after church

  55. this week, this past week. And we went to our

  56. international conference. Now, one of the things

  57. that, in fact, is, Jen, can I give you these?

  58. Thank you. Thank you. I heard one person say,

  59. if I was to write a book about my wife, There

  60. would be major chapters on mercy and grace and

  61. beauty and wisdom and a very small chapter on

  62. sporting ability. Anyway, I'm just giving her

  63. a hard time. One of the things that we do is

  64. I love traveling together with my wife. I've

  65. done lots of stuff around the world, but I don't

  66. like doing it by myself, and there's times I

  67. have to. But when we go to these international

  68. conferences, she was actually a speaker, and

  69. I didn't get asked to speak this year. She did,

  70. and my daughter, both of them did. They asked

  71. me to go into other rooms and minister over to

  72. various pastors and nations. And let me tell

  73. you a little bit about this organization that

  74. we belong to. It's called Ministers Fellowship

  75. International, and I've been part of it now for

  76. almost, I think, about 29, 28 years. We got married

  77. in... And I think we joined MFI in 96 or 97.

  78. One of those two. So it's just been about almost

  79. 30 years. MFI will be celebrating 40 years next

  80. year. So they've been an organization for 39

  81. years. And it was started kind of by our great

  82. grandfather. If we could say that in the faith.

  83. Brother Dick Iverson who started. City Bible

  84. Church, or was called originally in Portland

  85. Bible Temple and Portland Bible College. And

  86. then our mentor, Dr. Frank Damasio, who's now

  87. with the Lord, he was also the vice chair. They

  88. started that ministry together. And the purpose

  89. was this, to find not denominational churches

  90. that already had an organization. We weren't

  91. there to pull anybody from their denomination,

  92. but to find independent, local, autonomous churches.

  93. that had local elderships, believed in the same

  94. principles of the scripture, such as having an

  95. axe to focus on Pentecost, on the church being

  96. the vessel that God wanted to use to extend the

  97. kingdom. Finding those pastors that were walking

  98. alone and creating a fellowship that several

  99. times a year you'd get together, share resources,

  100. so that you could walk together with other people

  101. in your area or region so that as a church you

  102. just didn't feel like you were forging everything

  103. alone. You had other people that believed the

  104. same, walked the same. And so when Jenny and

  105. I... got married and were in Eugene Christian

  106. Fellowship at that time. That was one of the

  107. things that Eugene Christian Fellowship, obviously

  108. pastored by Frank Damasio, was involved in from

  109. the beginning. And it's from there I've made

  110. relationships around the world. I know when we

  111. got into MFI, it was about 100, 120 churches.

  112. And from there, we've watched it explode. The

  113. last count we had this year at conference was

  114. there's 14 ,000 churches now around the world

  115. that belong to Ministers Fellowship International.

  116. That means they're local churches that have...

  117. that have no denominational affiliation, but

  118. are walking together in the truth to make healthy

  119. churches, healthy leaders, and extend the kingdom

  120. of God. And MFI is happening on every continent.

  121. I mean, we're getting ready to open MFI Cambodia,

  122. MFI Cuba, MFI... Europe. I mean, we already have

  123. MFI Canada, MFI Brazil, MFI Argentina. I mean,

  124. multiple MFIs in Africa and in Asia. And God

  125. is just continuing to move in that. And we get

  126. the privilege, Jenny and I get the privilege

  127. to be part of that leadership team. And we sit

  128. on an extended leadership board. We're not the

  129. governing body of it. We're part of that governing

  130. body. I'm one of a regional overseer in this

  131. area from Northern California to the Idaho border,

  132. to the coast, all the way up past Salem. And

  133. that's kind of my territory that I take care

  134. of and help shepherd pastors. There's about 18

  135. to 20 pastors that I cover in this area. And

  136. because of that, I'm asked to do various things.

  137. We host a regional conference here and we try

  138. to sow into the lives of pastors. I'm saying

  139. all that to say to you, I was in meetings from,

  140. meetings started at 9 a .m. in the morning and

  141. we got done at 9 p .m. at night. I was in meetings

  142. for 12 hours for five days. So I had long days.

  143. You get up, try to slam down a coffee, have a

  144. little breakfast. And then in the midst of that,

  145. we're meeting with people, helping pastors. I

  146. got to prophesy over a bunch of pastors each

  147. day. They would bring international people in.

  148. that had signed up and said, we just want to

  149. know what God is saying over us. And I've worked

  150. with a team of presbyters and we prophesied over

  151. a lot of people and literally to see what God

  152. is doing and to hear even what the word of the

  153. Lord was over people's lives that are in the

  154. ministry. You'd have no idea how wonderful God

  155. is until you sit down and just stay in a session

  156. for two or three hours. person after person,

  157. the Lord revealing things that only God could

  158. tell them. I got a big kick out of it. You know,

  159. we're in days, I guess, fact is, I don't get

  160. a big kick out of this, but we're in days where

  161. the prophetic word of the Lord or the, if you

  162. will, the prophetic ministry is under scrutiny.

  163. And that's a good thing. To be honest with you,

  164. I welcome it because there's been too many players

  165. that have absolutely not abided by what the Bible

  166. truth of the prophetic actually is. And so one

  167. of the things that we're known for is that we

  168. have very strict process on Even when we would

  169. say, hey, there's candidates that are going to

  170. be prophesied, I had no idea who those candidates

  171. were. And so they said, well, this year we're

  172. even going to just make sure just with everything

  173. that's out there in the world and scrutiny that

  174. there's no data mining. And I looked at my wife

  175. and I said, what is data mining? And she goes,

  176. honey, you have to have a bunch of accounts.

  177. You can barely run your phone. You don't need

  178. to worry about it. But I guess there's a lot

  179. of stuff out there on people trying to get information.

  180. I'm so glad I'm part of a church setting that

  181. we believe that here and there, where we didn't

  182. even get the names of the people until they walked

  183. in the room. And for them to know with a surety

  184. of what God was speaking over them, as only God

  185. could pull out things, reveal things that they

  186. had been walking through and what God was saying

  187. to their circumstances, to watch the joy of the

  188. Lord come over people in tears, that they knew

  189. that it was a genuine word of the Lord. And that's

  190. really important. It's really important. Now,

  191. why am I saying that? Because I want you to understand

  192. we're living in a moment and a time where all

  193. sorts of things are trying to divert the body

  194. of Christ from believing in the power of his

  195. word of what is written and in the authority

  196. of the spirit that comes to highlight the word

  197. of the Lord. Fact is, I would probably say one

  198. of the things in scripture that we actually deal

  199. with primarily as I'm looking and it's traveling

  200. over through the nations and helping guide understanding

  201. of freedom and deliverance ministries and helping

  202. prophetic ministry. In fact, as we're teaching

  203. on that on Wednesday nights this fall, how to

  204. hear the voice of God and how to keep the prophetic

  205. clean. It's a big deal. To train God's people

  206. to hear the voice of God. Why? Because it's a

  207. mandate. You do understand the scripture says,

  208. my sheep hear my voice. And they will not follow

  209. another. Meaning, there are other voices speaking.

  210. And to be able to know Jesus, to know the voice

  211. of the Holy Spirit, which is your right in salvation.

  212. That's why the Apostle Paul, under the inspiration

  213. of the Holy Spirit, could say, earnestly desire

  214. the best gifts, but especially that you prophesy.

  215. Am I talking to anybody this morning? Okay, I'm

  216. going to have to come down there because it's

  217. awful dead. Let's just move that. So you did

  218. this to me, just remember that. So what are we

  219. saying here? We're saying, first of all, that

  220. they're in this explosion of this thing called

  221. the internet and social media. There is a lot

  222. of people releasing words that have nothing to

  223. do, I'm gonna be very careful, but also gonna

  224. put the sword down here, that have nothing to

  225. do with real prophecy. Now, why is that? Let

  226. me, this is not, this is the beginning of the

  227. message. This is not the message because first

  228. of all, they don't actually, you see, the Bible

  229. says the prophetic spirit of prophecy is the

  230. testimony of Jesus, which means what? In the

  231. testimony of Jesus, in order to have a true prophetic

  232. word, you have to have several things. You have

  233. to have what? who Jesus is, was, and is to come.

  234. And the cross has to be predominant and resurrection

  235. life has to be predominant so that you can what?

  236. Build, strengthen, encourage Jesus Christ transformational

  237. work inside of you. If you can't recognize the

  238. cross, You can't recognize the transformational

  239. part of the word that's coming out that's to

  240. encourage you and strengthen you in your walk

  241. with Christ. You are not listening to a prophetic

  242. prophecy. You're listening to a spirit of divination.

  243. It's exactly what Balaam tapped into. It can

  244. sound and even have part of the Holy Spirit or

  245. part, excuse me, not part of the Holy Spirit,

  246. part of a religious truth that's accepted but

  247. not actually bring you into a relationship with

  248. God or with the Holy Spirit. And so as you begin

  249. to look, and I just took a look last night just

  250. to look, how many words are on the internet?

  251. that have nothing to do with the transformational

  252. nature of Christ being formed in you. And that's

  253. the spirit of prophecy. The spirit of prophecy

  254. is the testimony of Jesus. What's the testimony

  255. of Jesus? Jesus Christ, who came to live, die,

  256. and resurrect, and stay connected to the will

  257. of God. Do you understand that crucifixion happened

  258. to Jesus, but us being crucified daily, not in

  259. the flesh, but in our transformational nature

  260. to let Christ be formed in us, if that's not

  261. there trying to move you forward in the things

  262. of God, you're listening to something that's

  263. based on something else that sounds religious.

  264. Now listen, I just, I... A year and a half ago,

  265. I'll be going back again to Ethiopia. One of

  266. the things that I had to deal with that the pastors

  267. of two different regional areas in two major

  268. cities asked Dr. Munson and myself to deal with

  269. is the very nature of the false prophetic. Because

  270. it's such a big deal in many of... especially

  271. in African culture, but it's come here as well.

  272. Meaning that the prophet is so honored in those

  273. countries that people will move past the normal

  274. transformational process of Christianity and

  275. want to just get a message from the prophet so

  276. they can hear all the time, hearing something

  277. new. That is not the nature of the true prophetic

  278. or the true spirit of prophecy. That's what divination

  279. does. Divination turns your moment of listening

  280. to Christ and that it be formed in you and that

  281. you would grow in hearing the voice of God from

  282. his word and from his relational fellowship with

  283. you to oftentimes just being a comfort from anxiety

  284. and worry and fear. Let me hear somebody else

  285. who's hearing something so that I can just hear

  286. what God is saying, hopefully, and allow that

  287. anxiety and fear. That's not even biblical. It's

  288. not even biblical. That's what you do every morning.

  289. I mean, maybe you don't, but people that do.

  290. They do what? They run to the news. They run

  291. to this. Why? Because fear has gripped their

  292. heart. Anxiety has gripped their heart. And what

  293. are they looking at? They're looking at information

  294. so they can feel somewhat safe. You just begin

  295. to apply this test across what you're coming

  296. across. And you'll find that if it's not actually...

  297. causing Christ to be formed in you and the transformational

  298. to grow, to be encouraged, to step out with the

  299. Holy Spirit in his, if it's only about tickling

  300. the news of what president is going to come,

  301. what senator is going to come, what bill is going

  302. to come, all of that is under a political spirit

  303. of divination. Very few things in the New Testament,

  304. the prophesying out of an old prophetic understanding,

  305. very few things in the New Testament actually

  306. are connected to what is on the internet. Why?

  307. Because Jesus levels up the playing field in

  308. the New Testament through the Holy Spirit saying

  309. what? It's to build, it's to encourage, and it's

  310. to strengthen. If it's not building you or the

  311. church, if it's not strengthening your faith

  312. and the transformational power of Christ in you,

  313. If it's not adding beautification to the things

  314. that are meant to be of a lifestyle of faith

  315. and move you forward, or it's not telling you

  316. what you need to do to endure what's coming through

  317. to build Christ in you in the atmosphere that

  318. you're about to go into, you need to put it on

  319. the shelf because a lot of times it's mixed with

  320. divination. And divination isn't eye of newt

  321. and leg of frog and you know. That's not what

  322. divination is. Divination is operating from a

  323. different spirit that's not connected to Christ.

  324. It has religious and political atmosphere about

  325. it, and it sounds like it's the Lord. Go look

  326. at Balaam's prophecies. Go study. He heard God,

  327. but he mixed it with other things. What did it

  328. do? It kept Balak. constantly coming back to

  329. Balaam for a word. Not anything from Balaam's

  330. life provoked Balak to honor who Jesus Christ

  331. was. It all came back to what? My ministry, my

  332. word. I mean, listen to how he starts it off.

  333. This is the one who falls down, whose eyes are

  334. open, who hears the voice of God. What did he

  335. start with? He starts off by magnifying himself.

  336. All right, it's not my message this morning,

  337. but I'm just giving you a little bit of an introduction.

  338. Why? Because Christ being formed in you is the

  339. goal of the prophetic. You can't get away from

  340. the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy,

  341. which means you have to know Jesus. And did Jesus

  342. prophesy to kings and rulers and who was going

  343. to be the next VP? Did he prophesy of who was

  344. going to be the next Roman pontiff? Now I get

  345. it. He's building the church and he sent the

  346. spirit, but everyone that was to prophesy was

  347. to what? To build the church, to strengthen people

  348. and their relationship with Christ. Even Agabus,

  349. just work with me just a little bit. Even Agabus,

  350. the prophet that set people in, notice when he

  351. Twice when he is recorded in the New Testament

  352. about things that were major. First one was,

  353. Agabus came and said, listen, there's going to

  354. be, the Lord says there's going to be a famine

  355. in all the world. Guess what the answer to the

  356. prophecy was as he was prophesying? Go and give

  357. relief to your brothers and sisters who are there

  358. who are going to be experiencing the famine.

  359. Notice he didn't just leave it and drop the mic.

  360. Hey, there's a famine coming in the world. That's

  361. not the spirit of prophecy. Spirit of prophecy

  362. finished it with, now make yourself available

  363. to go and meet that need because that's what's

  364. coming on the world. Big difference between just

  365. announcing knowledge versus real prophetic. There

  366. is such thing as a word of knowledge and it works

  367. with the prophetic word of God. It is not just

  368. about releasing information. And I taught this,

  369. if you're wanting to deepen this, I'll be teaching

  370. this again the whole fall term as we just started.

  371. This will be my third session, third set of notes

  372. this coming Wednesday. Because this is a thing

  373. that has to get cleaned up in the body of Christ.

  374. Has to. It is, and this is my message, it is

  375. about the Jesus who is. Listen, we know that

  376. Jesus introduces himself. The first title, let's

  377. go to Revelation chapter one at the very beginning

  378. here. Revelation chapter one, and I'm gonna start

  379. in verse four. John to the seven churches that

  380. are in Asia, grace to you and peace from him

  381. who, Now notice, if you're a student of the scripture

  382. and you've done any type of understanding of

  383. how to interpret scripture, what do we know about

  384. scripture? First mention principle is what? There's

  385. a reason something is recorded first before other

  386. things are recorded, right? You'll never see

  387. an apostle listed last. Why? Every scripture

  388. that kneels with an apostle lists it first. We

  389. know that Jesus, who was, is, and is to come.

  390. But look at the revelation that Jesus now, as

  391. the resurrected Lord over the churches, as John

  392. is on the Isle of Patmos, look at what he highlights

  393. right here. He said, I am the one who is. Oh,

  394. shut the door. What are we saying here? Because

  395. most of what we've grown up with is the Jesus

  396. who was and the Jesus who is to come. If you

  397. think about the majority of the messages that

  398. the Christian church has heard, it's about the

  399. Jesus who was and the Jesus who is to come. Very

  400. few messages deal with the Jesus who is right

  401. now. Who is he right now? Do you know him in

  402. the is? In your life right now, that is. Is your

  403. relationship with the is part as well as the

  404. who was and who is to come. You see, the who

  405. was. Of course is connected to the Godhead. Connected

  406. to the Trinity. Beyond time and space. He is

  407. co -equal with the Father and the Holy Spirit.

  408. The was. The lamb slain before the foundation

  409. of the world. Even the law of Moses. The giving

  410. of the tabernacle. All of the biblical accounts.

  411. All the way through was the was. But we're living

  412. in the day of the is. Doesn't disconnect us from

  413. the was. In fact is our. our understanding of

  414. the was and our understanding of who is to come

  415. deals with his kingship, his authority, his resurrected

  416. victory and the full establishment for a literal

  417. thousand year reign on the earth and the summing

  418. up then after that of judging the living and

  419. the dead and eternal states. Yes, we need to

  420. preach that. But what about now? The Jesus who

  421. is, is now. Think of it. John on the Isle of

  422. Patmos, suffering persecution. And you have to

  423. wonder, you might just think about this for a

  424. second. You have to wonder, you know, when Jesus

  425. talked to Peter and John there in the end of

  426. John's gospel, and Jesus restores Peter three

  427. times at the end of, before he leaves to go to

  428. heaven. Love my, sheep, love my lambs, love my

  429. sheep, feed my sheep. All of those principles

  430. was to restore Peter back to his calling. And

  431. then Jesus says to Peter, he says, and by the

  432. way, when you're older, you go where you want

  433. to go now, but when you're older, someone will

  434. lead you by the hand to a place you don't want

  435. to go. And the scripture says, and that was prophesying

  436. of how he would die. And then Peter, like Peter

  437. always does, looks at John and looks at Jesus

  438. and goes, well, what about him? Appreciate the

  439. prophetic word over my life and ministry, but

  440. what does John get to do? And Jesus says, don't

  441. worry about John. What is it to you if I allow

  442. John to remain? And then John writes for the

  443. commentary, he says, and this was said, circulated

  444. that I would never die, but that's not what that

  445. means, right? I'm paraphrasing. So here John

  446. is on the Isle of Patmos. Everybody else has

  447. pretty much lost their life for the sake of the

  448. gospel. He's still on the earth and he didn't,

  449. I'm sure when he received the message, what is

  450. it to you if he remains until I come? That was

  451. a good word. It's like, if I receive that word

  452. in 2026, what is it if I remain until he comes?

  453. Lord, I can't wait to see you face to face. You're

  454. gonna give me long life. He probably had no idea

  455. of what Jesus meant when he said, what is it

  456. to you if I ask him to remain? Being boiled in

  457. oil, being left for exile with no fellowship,

  458. no church, no people, no nothing, wasn't exactly

  459. what he was getting when Jesus was speaking,

  460. what is it to you if I ask him to remain? His

  461. idea of Jesus' prophetic word over his life was

  462. a little bit different than what Jesus was now

  463. asking him to do. Are you doing okay? Okay, why

  464. do we say that? Because now John is getting this

  465. message. He is left alone. If there's anything,

  466. he's in a wilderness moment in his life. He is,

  467. if I'm John, which I'm not, If I'm John, I am

  468. asking myself, because remember, he's the apostle

  469. of love. Of everything he's known for, every

  470. letter he writes, he's known as the guy that

  471. brings the message of Christ's love, brings the

  472. message of reconciliation, brings the message

  473. of this is the original intent of the Father

  474. to know the love and to love and have unity.

  475. is john's signature guess what you you want to

  476. do if you're the message of love to the church

  477. you want to be with the church you want to be

  478. with people and experience and love and show

  479. what genuine love is where is he now in exile

  480. by his lonesome seems weird for the apostle of

  481. love to be placed in no man's land how many have

  482. ever felt like you've been put in no man's land

  483. Have you ever felt like you've been exiled from

  484. God? Or maybe you didn't know that God didn't

  485. leave you, but you were exiled. It's like nobody

  486. could. It's almost like they couldn't even grab

  487. a hold of your life. It was almost like you were

  488. so insignificant. People didn't see you. People

  489. didn't hear you. And like you were in this thing

  490. like God put over you. Wilderness. Right? And

  491. you're in this space of wilderness. And that's

  492. where John was. John was in exile. John was in

  493. wilderness. And then the Lord calls him as he's

  494. what? As he's in the spirit on the Lord's day.

  495. He's praying. He's praying to do what? Connect

  496. with the spirit of God. He's praying in the spirit.

  497. He's in the spirit on the Lord's day. And then

  498. what does he do? What does the scripture say

  499. in Revelation chapter four, verse one? And I

  500. heard a voice. behind me like the sound of many

  501. waters. And I turned and I looked. Multiple things

  502. happened there. He didn't see the God who was

  503. and the God who is to come. He saw the one who

  504. is both of those, was and future. But he was

  505. now being called to attention by the God who

  506. is. And as the Holy Spirit is starting to write

  507. this letter in Revelation to be brought to the

  508. seven churches, the very first name, before you

  509. get to Alpha and Omega, before you get to the

  510. one who is the first and the last, because in

  511. Revelation, John defines, as the Holy Spirit

  512. is writing to him, Every name and every title

  513. that brings Jesus over everything past, present,

  514. and future. But his first title of everything

  515. to John and to you and I now in this season is

  516. what? From the God who is. You'll not find the

  517. God who is first in any other section of scripture

  518. except here. It always goes the God who was,

  519. is, and, okay, let's try that again. Who was,

  520. is, and is to come. Here in Revelation, he deals

  521. with what? The God who is. It was first and foremost

  522. to John, and then it was to you and I as well

  523. that are part of the church that Jesus is and

  524. wants to be known in your now situation. He doesn't

  525. want you to rely on things that you've known

  526. about the past or defer your hope to only things

  527. that are in the future that are yet to be known

  528. and yet to be seen. He actually wants to break

  529. into your life right now and be known as the

  530. God who is and have fellowship and relationship

  531. and encounter with you in a now moment. And the

  532. problem is, for most of us, if we don't have

  533. that, when we end up talking to people, like

  534. if I'm gonna go over here and talk to Chad, very

  535. studious man, accomplished, educated. If I'm

  536. gonna talk to Chad, what is my first fallback?

  537. I'm usually gonna talk to Chad if we're gonna

  538. talk about Jesus in a God who was. I talked about

  539. what the plan of God has been, who Jesus was,

  540. what he came to do. And that's wonderful. But

  541. why am I not starting with the God who is? Because

  542. that's where he starts here in Revelation. He

  543. starts with the God who is and then goes back

  544. to the God who was and is to come. You see, it's

  545. important that you understand that moment. We

  546. often brush by that because we want to go back

  547. to the formulas. We're used to linear thinking

  548. about how to present Jesus rather than actually

  549. just sharing from what actually is the God who

  550. is right now. Now, he's all of those things.

  551. I can't divide the is out from the was and the

  552. who is to come, but the But the context here

  553. this morning of what we're dealing with is he's

  554. dealing with wherever you're at in that now moment.

  555. Wow, think about that. The God who is, who was,

  556. and who is to come. And then the next part of

  557. it, this is the prophetic. Now listen to this.

  558. True prophetic prophecy deals with what? the

  559. seven spirits who are before the throne and Jesus

  560. Christ, the faithful witness. Firstborn from

  561. the dead, ruler of the kings of earth in that

  562. order. Notice faithful witness. Do you understand

  563. that that is the nature of what the prophetic

  564. should be coming to bring? The faithful witness

  565. to Christ. That's what it's coming to do. If

  566. someone's gonna give Van a word here, The whole

  567. point of the word should encourage him, strengthen

  568. him to be what? A faithful witness to Christ

  569. in the season of the life that he's in and the

  570. season that he's heading into. If all that's,

  571. and I'm sorry if this offends you, it's pastorscott

  572. at lifebiblechurch .org is the email, okay? Now,

  573. if somebody comes up over you and says, oh, I

  574. just see the color blue, God bless you. And that

  575. is the level of the, Quote, prophetic, whoosh,

  576. flush. Why? Does it mean that blue has no significance?

  577. Of course it does. Sorry, I got somebody laughing.

  578. I'm not sure whether they're laughing or crying

  579. back there. But anyways, if you got a blue prophecy,

  580. just let it go. Hallelujah. But the issue being,

  581. the reality is he needs something to be a faithful

  582. witness. He needs living impartation. from the

  583. one who is raised from the dead and the one who

  584. fulfilled the will of his father in every season

  585. to be obedient to the will of God, to the word

  586. of God, and to let it transform his character

  587. and nature that he would be strengthened, that

  588. he would be built, that he would be encouraged,

  589. and that he would have holy impartation. That's

  590. what the prophetic is for. That's what the level

  591. of prophecy is for, is to build you, to strengthen

  592. you, to add to you, not give you a... There's

  593. an orange hue. This is a good time to say, I

  594. love everybody. Hallelujah. But I hate foolishness.

  595. I hate it. I hate it in the body of Christ when

  596. it tries to get passed off as something spiritual.

  597. Do I believe in colors? Have I had encounters

  598. where... absolutely needed to know that color

  599. because of what it represented? Yes. Did the

  600. colors of the tabernacle mean something to God

  601. in the temple? Absolutely. There's a difference

  602. between the crimson, the blue and the purple.

  603. There's a difference between silver and gold

  604. and precious stones. All of those have meaning,

  605. but if they are just spoken over a person and

  606. there's no pointing to deepening the transformational

  607. grace and word in your life, it doesn't mean

  608. anything. You doing okay? All right. So In the

  609. few minutes I have left, why did I bring that

  610. up? Because Jesus is going to do something in

  611. John chapter four that is going to be different

  612. in the levels of prophetic that had been modeled.

  613. And I need you to see this. True canopy of a

  614. prophetic ministry always moves in a three -stage

  615. transmission. It's just like a good three -speed.

  616. It's first, second, and third. And you'll see

  617. it all through. Why? Because the God who was,

  618. is, and is to come. What does first deal with?

  619. First always deal with, when you're seeing how

  620. the real prophetic works, it deals with who you

  621. were and how God intervened in your life, that

  622. he saw all the good. all the ugly, and he wasn't

  623. scared off. He paid for you. And he lets you

  624. know of how he intervened when you were who you

  625. used to be, but you're not that anymore. That's

  626. first gear. Then it moves to second gear. What's

  627. second gear? It moves to the God who is. He now

  628. begins to speak to situations that are in your

  629. current life. He speaks to things that you're

  630. asking him about. And you'll notice this. If

  631. you've had real, real presbytery or prophetic

  632. ministry, God will begin to answer things that

  633. have been prayers on your heart and on your mind

  634. that only he can know. And God begins to answer

  635. some things. And then he moves into third gear.

  636. And third gear isn't baldness, although it does

  637. feel like that from time to time with my life

  638. and your life. Third gear is what? Releasing

  639. the future and impartation for your next seasons.

  640. It becomes an encounter with the only one who

  641. knows your future. That's the nature. of the

  642. fullness of the prophetic. What often Christians

  643. get is they get a is moment. They get an is light

  644. moment. Meaning what? That when they have prophetic

  645. encounters or somebody gives them a word. If

  646. it's really from the Lord, it is going to answer

  647. and bring confirmation and grace to things that

  648. you have been struggling and wrestling with that

  649. only God knows you've been doing. That's one

  650. of the confirmations. Not only, but it's one

  651. of them. But it doesn't deal with, most of the

  652. time, your future or your past. Why? Because

  653. it's dealing with a now moment of the church

  654. trying to find, according to the rules of What

  655. God gives us to keep the prophetic clean, it

  656. gives you the rules to edify, to build up, to

  657. strengthen, and to encourage in the transformational

  658. process and the leading of the Lord in your life.

  659. But it doesn't deal with usually past, and it

  660. doesn't deal with normally future. It deals with

  661. a section and season of the is. But just to give,

  662. I'm gonna come back here, just to give information

  663. does not mean, It's holy. Just to be able to

  664. give a phone number or a street address, that

  665. does not mean that's from the Lord. If it doesn't

  666. lead you to an encounter that's transformational

  667. in the giving of that word, you need to put a

  668. question mark going, why was that given without

  669. transformational grace assigned to it? Because

  670. most of the time, those types of words come to

  671. build up the ministry and the person giving it

  672. rather than bring honor and glory to God and

  673. what he's doing in your life. Now, when Jesus

  674. deals, let's go back to John chapter four now.

  675. When Jesus comes upon, and I'm teaching a little

  676. bit prophetic this morning because I've been

  677. involved in an international conference. So you'll

  678. have to forgive me. I've just, I've been immersed

  679. in the prophetic and teaching on it. releasing

  680. prophetic words and all that. But when I came

  681. to the text that I had prepared and I felt like

  682. the Lord had given to me, as we look at John

  683. chapter four and Jesus coming to that area, you

  684. need to see something beyond just the woman here.

  685. Listen to what it says. I'm gonna start in verse

  686. three. Jesus left Judea and departed again for

  687. Galilee. What happened two chapters before John

  688. chapter four? Anybody? What happened in John

  689. chapter two? Okay. I would maybe suggest we dip

  690. our toe back into the gospel of John a little

  691. bit. The wedding feast of Cana of Galilee. Thank

  692. you, John. John probably should have the gospel

  693. of John memorized, but way to go, John. Okay,

  694. the reality is what? The first miracle that happened

  695. Jesus did a sign and a wonder and a miracle in

  696. what? Cana of where? Galilee. Why is this gonna

  697. be important? Because Galilee. Would be a place

  698. that would be Jewish. But also have some mixture

  699. in Galilee. And there would be places in between.

  700. The turning of the water into wine. That Jesus

  701. would have to go through to get back to Galilee.

  702. To again have another encounter with his people.

  703. You see the gospel of John is setting you up.

  704. What's it setting you up? To have an encounter

  705. with the God who is. Everything that starts in

  706. the gospel of John. Before he moves to the last

  707. week of Jesus' life. Everything prior to the

  708. last week. John encounters you with the God who

  709. is. The very first part is the beginning statement.

  710. In the beginning was the word. And the word was

  711. God. And the word was with God. And the word

  712. was made manifest. And we beheld him as the only

  713. begotten son of God. He moves you to the was.

  714. And he moves you to the is. And in the gospel

  715. of John, he moves you to the is and to his future

  716. return. But he's constantly trying to move you

  717. out of, let's not stay in the was because the

  718. was is anchoring you to a religious mindset and

  719. understanding, keeping you from embracing the

  720. encounter of the now. Jesus is never divided.

  721. He's not. He is part of the Trinity, Father,

  722. Son, Holy Spirit. He's not divided in his heart,

  723. but we often are. And we often live with what

  724. we're most comfortable in. And in John, he's

  725. trying to move us to begin to experience the

  726. God who... had prophesied long, long ago and

  727. moved through generation after generation that

  728. the time of was is over and the new is is now.

  729. So he starts with the what? The water into wine.

  730. And we'll talk about that at some other time.

  731. But now we're talking about John 4. And why would

  732. we say that? He left, he was in Cana of Galilee,

  733. did his first miracle. In between chapter two

  734. and chapter four, he went back to another place

  735. and now he's going back to Galilee again. And

  736. Jesus comes to a town of Samaria called Sychar.

  737. Now listen to this. This is important because

  738. it's actually a very prophetic moment. I don't

  739. want to get into the history of Sychar, but he's

  740. coming to Samaria, a place that was now cut out.

  741. first in God's discipline because of rebellion

  742. and them refusing to follow God wholeheartedly.

  743. And they were dispersed. The Jewish people were

  744. dispersed. Among every tribe or every kingdom

  745. that the king of Assyria and Babylon, they were

  746. moved all through. They took the Assyrians and

  747. the other lands that they captured and put in

  748. Samaria and they moved the Jewish people to every

  749. kingdom they conquered to remove the taste of

  750. their Judaism out of their mouth. So when we

  751. look at Samaria, Samaria now was a hodgepodge.

  752. Of all other countries that had been conquered

  753. by the kingdom of Assyria. And some of Babylon

  754. that had been displaced. And there was a mix

  755. of Jewish. And a mix of all the mixture of all

  756. the nations and the pagan deities. Jesus is now

  757. walking there. But Samaria, you have to remember,

  758. had its roots in God. Its roots were in God.

  759. That's why you read this next verse. The field.

  760. Near the field that Jacob had given his son,

  761. Joseph. You see, the very heritage of the faith

  762. was given from Jacob to his son, Joseph. Why

  763. was Joseph, why was this so important? Because

  764. Joseph represented the double portion. In Joseph

  765. would be both what? Manasseh and Ephraim it would

  766. represent double fruitfulness and when you get

  767. to that understanding there was a prophetic nature

  768. to the field saying I'm giving you this portion

  769. because this portion of our heritage belongs

  770. to this son because this son is to carry favor

  771. and blessing in the inheritance then it says

  772. something else it says and he came to the what

  773. Jacob's well Jacob's well. Now it's more than

  774. just the field. It's a well. And folks, I'm just

  775. going to maybe mess with you in the next 13 minutes

  776. here. That is prophetic in itself. Why? Because

  777. the Bible says, give me your name again. Chris.

  778. The Bible says, Chris, in 1 Corinthians 3 .9,

  779. you are God's field. You are God's building.

  780. just like Chris now has a place right there in

  781. that scripture that God is speaking to him, we

  782. are destined to be God's field. By the blood

  783. of Jesus Christ, by the grace of his word, God

  784. has now made you to be his. He's put his name

  785. on Chris. He's put his stamp on Chris. And he

  786. says, you are God's field. And then you look

  787. at Jesus's ministry. He was what? He was the

  788. one that had what? Living water. He was the one

  789. that, I mean, we could go through multiple, multiple

  790. scriptures. He is what? The one who has life

  791. and water. That's the first encounter we're going

  792. to read about. Jesus actually said to the woman

  793. in just a few verses, if you knew who it was

  794. that was standing here, you'd ask me for a drink

  795. and I would have given you living waters. that

  796. you would thirst no more. Do you get the irony

  797. here, the prophetic moment? Here Jesus comes

  798. to the field that was destined to be God's. What

  799. is Samaria now? Completely mixed, completely

  800. paganized, but God remembers his oath and his

  801. plan and his desire of what he would do to all

  802. peoples, and his desire is that. all the nations

  803. would know him. He comes back to what was a physical

  804. inheritance, and he's now coming to the place

  805. that had roots in the nature and in the promise

  806. of God, and he comes now by a well that was driven

  807. to establish covenant. Remember that well? Every

  808. time they drove a well, it meant what? Survival?

  809. Yes, but it meant blessing. It meant this is

  810. the response to covenant gave us water to give

  811. to our flocks, to our herds, and to our people.

  812. So here, just think of it. Jesus sitting on the

  813. well of promise in the field of promise to a

  814. group of people that had no idea that Jesus who

  815. is was now there. And John 4 opens with this

  816. understanding that the living water and the new

  817. covenant had now come to present himself not

  818. as the God who was. And notice, if you look at

  819. the Samaritan story, what did she try to do?

  820. Move him to the God who would be. What was her

  821. answer? I know that when Messiah comes, he will

  822. what? She knew the past. She knew about the future.

  823. But she was living in a realm that wasn't willing

  824. to engage the God who is. And Jesus is God enough,

  825. because he's completely God, to care about your

  826. is moment. He doesn't want you just to know a

  827. historical account. He doesn't want you just

  828. to have a hope and a faith in the someday. He

  829. actually wants to bring what was and what will

  830. be into what is right now. And that's why, that

  831. is why he jumped right into a conversation with

  832. a Samaritan woman and did the exact opposite

  833. that seeker -sensitive churches do. I can't leave

  834. today without, you know, kind of just adjusting

  835. a few things. You see, when we put the seekers

  836. first, and we are to be about the lost, but when

  837. we put what they think they need before what

  838. God tells us as the God who is that they need,

  839. we do something like this. Oh. You're a Samaritan

  840. woman. Here's some water. Here's some groceries.

  841. Here's some things that you didn't ask for. How

  842. can we pray for you? Notice that wasn't Jesus's

  843. approach. Jesus didn't offer her a bottle of

  844. Fiji. He didn't offer her some fresh loaves and

  845. some fishes because he knew even though she had

  846. need, just like we all do, she had need to eat

  847. and to drink. And the fact is she was coming.

  848. Jenny, my precious wife, I ask her to do things

  849. that she's sometimes uncomfortable with. Can

  850. you give me some depressing Samaritan woman music?

  851. It's kind of heavy. Just think of this. She's

  852. walking at noon with barrels to be filled or

  853. these big pots to be filled with water. Why?

  854. Because she's alone. Everything in her life she's

  855. destroyed. She has no friends. Society hates

  856. her because every time she got involved in it,

  857. she'd steal somebody's spouse. So nobody wanted

  858. to fellowship with her. She's out in the middle

  859. of the sun trying to draw water, which was the

  860. time that was reserved for having a little siesta

  861. and not doing work. We either did it in the morning,

  862. we do it in the evening, but that's when everybody

  863. comes out. So she was forced and relegated because

  864. of the choices she made in her life to actually

  865. go at noon. She expected no encounter. She had

  866. been living with what was that has still been

  867. gnawing on her mind. And she had hoped that someday

  868. something would change, but she had no space

  869. for the God who is. And in the midst of carrying

  870. these water pots, all of a sudden sat one who

  871. was wearied as well. In fact, as just a side

  872. note, you doing okay so far? Just a side note,

  873. the fact that this scripture tells us that Jesus

  874. was wearied from his journey absolutely lets

  875. us know that Jesus was not operating in his Godhead

  876. position as the living word of God on the earth.

  877. He laid aside, as Philippians said, his divine

  878. prerogatives and he was God wrapped in. man so

  879. to speak and he allowed the man part of his life

  880. the human part of his life to be absolutely subject

  881. to everything so that he could be made like us

  882. and experience and he had to do what lean on

  883. the holy spirit so when the fact that the scripture

  884. says and jesus was wearied from the journey at

  885. noon it didn't mean that jesus was out of shape

  886. if this was really God in his full strength manifesting,

  887. he would never be wearied. He did say in the

  888. scriptures, you weary me because of your prayers.

  889. But that wasn't the case here. He was wearied

  890. because of humanity. And you know, my takeaway

  891. from this, Joe, and that's probably bad exegesis

  892. here. My takeaway is long walks tire you. I know

  893. that's deep, so don't walk long. That's my philosophy.

  894. Anyway, no, just kidding. The point being, Six

  895. hours of walking will make you weary. Jesus,

  896. the living water, sits on the well of prophetic

  897. heritage and destiny in the land of prophetic

  898. heritage and destiny and now waits for a woman

  899. who comes to him by herself wanting... Already

  900. screening out everyone and Jesus doesn't say,

  901. hey, I've come to bless your life. Here's some

  902. stuff to practically meet your need. Jesus' first

  903. response is exactly the opposite of what we'd

  904. expect. He goes, give me a drink. What's your

  905. response when someone asks you for something

  906. that you didn't expect? I'll tell you, one of

  907. the greatest things that happened to me, it's

  908. happened to me at least twice. The one I remember

  909. the most is the one I failed. Kind of have an

  910. issue with people that, not the people that would

  911. ask me for money, but when they sit there with

  912. their dogs and they're full of tattoos and they're

  913. holding a sign, I probably don't listen very

  914. well and I don't look. Why? Because if you have

  915. the money to feed that dog and you have the money

  916. to put some permanent Sharpie on your, because

  917. all that costs money, I'm probably not too clued

  918. in to helping you with wisdom. Just saying. No,

  919. I see your stewardship and you're in this for

  920. a reason. Now that's kind of been my thing. I

  921. give money a lot to people who ask of it and

  922. there is a need, but I don't like giving money

  923. just because somebody asked for it. I need to

  924. know that God spoke to me. So there is a point

  925. to this story. It's raining one night. I got

  926. my kids. Jesse's really young. Jackie. They're

  927. 13 years apart. Jackie's a teenager. Dad, come

  928. on. Can we go to DQ? Can we go to DQ? Can we

  929. go to DQ? All right. And you have to know for

  930. an old Mennonite to spend money at DQ, it is

  931. already, I was moving in a level of faith. Okay,

  932. just saying. So we go to the Junction City DQ

  933. and they're asking for, of course they want everything.

  934. And I said, nope. Just like my dad did with me.

  935. Nope, you're not getting that. You can have this

  936. or this. This is the amount we're spending. Okay.

  937. So I go in, I order this. I go inside, leave

  938. the kids in the car because I knew if they came

  939. out of the car that we would end up with more

  940. stuff than we should have, right? Any parents?

  941. Okay. I come out with their two Sundays and immediately

  942. this person on a bike rolls right up around me.

  943. And now you have to understand, that doesn't

  944. go well with me when somebody gets in my space

  945. and I'm not aware of it. Most of the time I'm...

  946. am I packing? Am I not packing? What's what's

  947. happened? Am I getting rolled? Am I not? Cause

  948. I've been in some really crazy precarious things.

  949. And so I immediately went and I, Oh shoot, I'm

  950. not packing. Okay. So, and they rolled up and

  951. they said, Hey, and I looked at him. He said,

  952. can I, can you, can I have some money? I I'm

  953. hungry. And I looked at him at the moment. And

  954. because I was in the rain and my kids were there,

  955. I didn't have any cash on me. It was in the car.

  956. And I just said, hey, I don't have any on me,

  957. which was the truth. And they just looked at

  958. me and he rode away. And he was probably in his

  959. forties. I got my car, got past the light, was

  960. probably two blocks from the restaurant. And

  961. the Lord said to me, you missed me tonight. I

  962. said, Lord, what do you mean? He goes, that was

  963. me. I sent my angel. You didn't recognize him.

  964. And immediately my mind flashed to this man's

  965. eyes. And I rehearsed again the encounter. And

  966. I saw Jesus in his eyes. And I thought, Lord,

  967. I did. I am so sorry. And he spoke to me. He

  968. says, you weren't prepared for my now moment

  969. of visitation. It came different than what you

  970. expected. And I pulled off to the side of the

  971. road right there where that coffee cart is on

  972. the other side of the tire shops, right before

  973. in between two buildings, I pulled my car over

  974. and I stopped it right there. The kids are in

  975. ice cream. He said, dad, what are we doing? I

  976. said, just eat your ice cream. I got to repent.

  977. And I had a moment. I don't know what they did.

  978. They were eating hot fudge and ice cream. And

  979. I'm in the front going, God, I was so driven

  980. to get my thing done for the kids and the principle

  981. of being. I didn't allow any space for the God

  982. who is to lead me. I had all of my presets. At

  983. that moment, I was no different than the woman

  984. at the well. I had all my presets of things that

  985. I didn't want to have done in my life and the

  986. things that I had value for. And I just made

  987. my nice little box of how to live and what I

  988. was going to do for my kids, being a good dad.

  989. And I gave no room for the God who is. Why am

  990. I sharing that with you? Because if the church

  991. is going to be who Jesus says we have to be in

  992. the future, it's not going to be done by a big

  993. evangelist or a big prophet or a big apostle.

  994. Those offices are to do what? Equip the saints

  995. for the work of the ministry. My job is to equip.

  996. My job is to impart. My job is to challenge,

  997. not to do all the work. The fact is, I'm to do

  998. less and less of what's out there so that the

  999. church does more and more. Why? Because the Jesus

1000. who is, is going with you. See, where we're headed,

1001. where this world is going, is not quickly the

1002. God who is to come where we've been taught just

1003. to wait on that. Although that's great, we should

1004. be ready at any time. The seasons that we're

1005. heading into as the church in the Western world,

1006. is not ready for the season that's coming. And

1007. we have to get used to knowing the Jesus who

1008. is. He is going to want to move you and shape

1009. you and go ahead and live in you in the now moment

1010. so that you could actually respond and not do

1011. what I did and miss him and who he brings so

1012. that you could sit As one who the Bible says

1013. now, you're to have springs of living water flowing

1014. out of you. You're to be along the roadside,

1015. sitting in your journey. And when people come

1016. up, to be able to know what the Holy Spirit would

1017. say at that moment. Sometimes it is going to

1018. be, go buy them a hamburger. They're hungry.

1019. Sometimes it is going to be, get them a bottle

1020. of Fiji water. But many times it's going to say,

1021. so why are you here? Can you get me a drink?

1022. See, Jesus completely backwards of what we would

1023. normally think. He invaded her life to get to

1024. the thing that she needed most. She needed to

1025. get the God who she thought he was and the God

1026. who she thought he would be to actually encounter

1027. the God who he is to change both of those realities.

1028. so that she would know in truth who he really

1029. was and who he really is in coming because she's

1030. encountered the is. Can I pray for you this morning

1031. that like myself, I'm praying for myself as well,

1032. that there would be something inside of us this

1033. morning that would desire a closer relationship

1034. and an awareness of the God who is in our lives.

1035. Can we do that? Let's pray. Father, In the name

1036. of Jesus this morning. Lord, that encounter happened

1037. years ago at Dairy Queen. And I remember it as

1038. though it was last night. 10 years, 12 years

1039. past. I can still see the eyes. I can still see

1040. the face. I can still feel the disappointment

1041. in my own heart when I missed my now Jesus is

  1042. moment. That's the one I'm aware of. There's

1043. probably been many, many more. And I don't want

1044. that anymore. I want to walk with you and talk

1045. with you. I want, Lord, my heart to be open.

1046. Lord, that I would consider you in every option.

1047. I would not have presets for preset's sake. I

1048. would not build a box around my life. Help me

1049. remove the barriers. That would keep me from

1050. now encounters. And being used as a vessel fit

1051. for every good purpose for your will. I ask you

1052. to do that with every person that's here. Grow

1053. us. Transform us. Renew us. Let the nature of

1054. Christ be formed in us. That we would be now

1055. responding. Voice activated people who hear your

1056. voice. and follow your leading in every step.

1057. In Jesus Christ's holy name. 625 -1365 We would

1058. love to pray with you.
