  5. Florida, don't act like you won't be there next week with us.

  6. My name is Pastor Eric.

  7. If you don't know me, I'm one of the associate pastors here at Victory Fellowship Church, and I'm excited to get to share with you guys this morning.

  8. We're continuing our series called God on God, where we've been learning how to have a correct view of who God is by listening to what he has to say about himself.

  9. And when we have a clear view of who God is, we gain a clear picture of the kind of people that we are supposed to be.

  10. You know, I've been a Christian for about 15 years now, and for most of that, I've been a serious student of the Bible.

  11. I love studying the Bible.

  12. It's just kind of something that I gravitated to early on in my faith.

  13. And I love talking about God, but have you ever been like around someone who's talking about God and you hear them talking and they say some stuff, and then you're like, are you sure about that?

  14. Like, is that how God really is?

  15. Like, have you ever been around like an angry Christian?

  16. You know what I'm talking about.

  17. Like, nothing makes them happy.

  18. The sermon's never good enough.

  19. Like, they're super critical of other Christians, they're critical of the church.

  20. Like when God was handing out joy, they were outside burning ants with a magnifying glass.

  21. Like those, those kind of Christians.

  22. And then when you hear them talk about God, God sounds so angry.

  23. Or what about on the other end of the spectrum?

  24. You hang out with a passive Christian where, hey, man, everything's gonna be okay.

  25. You just do what you do.

  26. Hey, sin, don't God doesn't care about sin.

  27. Don't you worry about it.

  28. Look, sin is just an outer expression of an inner virtue.

  29. And then you hear them talk about God, and it sounds like God is very passive.

  30. It sounds like God just doesn't care.

  31. That's why it's important that when we're learning about the nature and the character of God, we don't just take other people's word for it.

  32. We have to go to Scripture to see what God says about God.

  33. Because your view of who God is shapes who you are.

  34. If you believe in this angry God, this wrathful, vengeful God, you are going to be an angry and wrathful person, and I'm not gonna invite you to hang out with me.

  35. And if you're a passive, if you believe in this passive God who doesn't care about sin, who doesn't care about what you do, and I'm probably gonna tell people to not hang out with you.

  36. We need to have a correct view of God.

  37. And this is exactly where we find Israel early in the book of Exodus.

  38. See, for Israel, God was almost like their coach.

  39. He not only provided like physical direction, like this is where I want you to go, and this is how I want you to get there, but he also provided spiritual direction.

  40. He told them what kind of people they were supposed to be.

  41. And in Exodus chapter 32, Israel became impatient with God.

    Exodus 32 chapter mention

  42. See, at this point in time, Israel had uh been delivered from slavery in Egypt.

  43. God had parted the Red Sea, and Moses went to Mount Sinai to get instructions.

  44. How are the people of God supposed to live?

  45. How are we supposed to interact with you?

  46. How are we supposed to worship?

  47. And let me tell you, Israel didn't even make it a month before they had a catastrophic failure.

  48. In Exodus 32, they became impatient with God.

  49. In fact, the Bible often refers to Israel as an impatient and stiff-necked people.

  50. And so instead of waiting on God, they took up an offering of gold.

  51. They got all of the earrings and all of the jewelry from the people of Israel, and they melted it down, and they made a golden calf and said, Israel, look, this is our God.

  52. And that sounds pretty dumb.

  53. That'd be like me, like cutting up apples and making an apple pie and putting it all together and baking it and then saying, Hey guys, look, this apple pie is God.

  54. This thing that I made with my hands.

  55. But this is where Israel is, and God's response to Israel tells us a lot about what we need to know about the kind of God that God is.

  56. Is God angry?

  57. Absolutely.

  58. They've cre they have committed this terrible sin of idolatry, they have already forgotten this deliverance from Egypt.

  59. But God doesn't scrap the plan, and God doesn't replace Israel.

  60. In Israel's lowest moment, in their darkest moment, God reveals to them who He is.

  61. And we see this in Exodus 34, which is going to be our primary scripture for this series.

  62. It says, and this is God talking to Moses.

  63. This is after the golden calf situation.

  64. This is the Lord passed in front of him and proclaimed, The Lord, the Lord is a compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger and abounding in faithful love and truth, maintaining faithful love to a thousand generations, forgiving iniquity, rebellion and sin, but he will not leave the guilty unpunished, bringing the consequences of the father's iniquity on the children and grandchildren to the third and fourth generation.

  65. And so in this series on week one, we talked about the first section of that passage that God is compassionate and gracious.

  66. He knows that we are but dust, but he loves us anyways.

  67. Last week, Pastor Jamie shared about how God was slow to anger.

  68. God has anger, but he has anger towards all of the right things, towards disobedience and to the things that harm his people.

  69. But God's anger is not just punitive, it's not punishment, it's restorative.

  70. God's anger is meant to restore us into intimacy with him.

  71. And it's also slow to come.

  72. And this morning we're gonna be looking at the third part of that passage where God is abounding in faithful love and truth.

  73. Abounding in faithful love and truth.

  74. And I'm gonna be honest with you guys, when I read these passages from the Old Testament, I realize something.

  75. I am Israel.

  76. I'm Israel.

  77. I get impatient with the promises of God over my life.

  78. There are times when I much prefer the easy way out than the more difficult way of Jesus.

  79. In my core, I want to be faithful to God.

  80. I really do.

  81. But I find that there's still a part of me that wants to do things my way.

  82. In fact, I've spent so many seasons of my life constructing these things that I believe that God wants me to build, only to find that I've built just another golden calf that looks a lot more like my desires than it does the desires of God.

  83. And you know, I've been following Jesus for a while now and I'm better than I was 10 years ago.

  84. But every time I fail, I have this jarring reality check.

  85. Like, when is it gonna be the last straw?

  86. When am I gonna go?

  87. When is God just going to give up?

  88. When is he gonna get sick and tired of my antics and probably trade me in for a new model?

  89. You know, it's one thing to have a bad day at work or burn your dinner, but it's an entirely different beast to fail spiritually, to experience spiritual failure, to knowingly or unknowingly do something that hurts someone, hurts God, or hurts myself.

  90. That's more difficult to deal with.

  91. And maybe that spiritual failure is acute.

  92. Maybe it's, you know, you you you you lost your temper at your spouse and said some things you shouldn't have said, or maybe you were too harsh with your kids when they were just being kids and you should have just let them, you know, just let them figure it out for themselves.

  93. Or maybe your spiritual failure, maybe it's more systemic.

  94. Maybe it's a sin cycle that you've been trying to break for months or for years, but you just find yourself falling back into it over and over again.

  95. Maybe it's spiritual apathy.

  96. Maybe you know you're supposed to care about what's going on in here and in here, but the things of the world are just a lot more entertaining.

  97. Have you ever experienced any of that before?

  98. Maybe you dropped out of church for a while, and the guilt of not being there made you want to stay out of church instead of come back.

  99. Maybe you did something that you weren't supposed to do, and God convicted you of it before you did it, but you did it anyways, and instead of running towards God, you ran away from him.

  100. You didn't repent to God, you want a distance from God.

  101. See, sin and spiritual failure, it has a way of distorting our reality.

  102. And one of the first things that becomes distorted in spiritual failure is our perception of who God is.

  103. And often the image of God that we create in our spiritual failure, it looks a whole lot a whole lot more like my worst image of myself than it does the God of the Bible.

  104. And this is not anything new.

  105. Sin has been doing this from the beginning, distorting our reality or perception of who God is.

  106. In fact, it goes all the way back to Genesis chapter 3, the fur of the first book in the Bible, third chapter.

    Genesis 3 chapter mention

  107. God had been so gracious to Adam and Eve.

  108. He gave them everything that they could ever have wanted, he gave them everything that they needed.

  109. He just had one rule: don't eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

  110. And through deception, of course, they do the very thing God told them not to do, and this is the result.

  111. So now they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the Lord God among the trees in the garden.

  112. But the Lord called to the man, Where are you?

  113. He answered, I heard you in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked, so I hid.

  114. Now there's two things I want to point out by this, about this.

  115. If someone walks in on me naked, I'm gonna be afraid no matter where it's at.

  116. Number two, after Adam and Eve sinned, the loving God that they once walked with in the cool of the day became the God that they hid from.

  117. See, they God did not change, but their perception of God did.

  118. This is what sin does.

  119. It distorts our understanding of the graciousness and the love of God.

  120. And we tend to shape God based on our sinfulness and not on the truth of who he is.

  121. When we want our way, we make God too soft.

  122. This is what Israel did.

  123. When they wanted to do things their way, they made a soft golden calf made out of a soft metal so that they could shape and manipulate it and make it say what they wanted him to say.

  124. And when we want our way, this is precisely what we do.

  125. We make a God who is too soft.

  126. But when we fail, we make a God who is too harsh.

  127. What Israel did with their gold, we do with our guilt.

  128. But what I want you to know is that God keeps his promises even when we break ours.

  129. God does not give up.

  130. I'm gonna say that again.

  131. God keeps his promises even when we break ours, God does not give up.

  132. Say that with me.

  133. Say God does not give up.

  134. Amen.

  135. So when we are, when we find ourselves in spiritual failure, it doesn't matter how we feel.

  136. What matters is the truth of what God says about Himself.

  137. And the truth is, is that God keeps his promises to us, even when we break ours.

  138. God does not give up on you.

  139. Israel broke their covenant with God before it was ever even ratified.

  140. So what does God do?

  141. He writes it again.

  142. When Adam and Eve sin against God and they go running, what does God do?

  143. He comes looking.

  144. He doesn't wait for us to find our way back home.

  145. God comes to us in our moments of failure.

  146. And we see this in Exodus 34.

  147. The Lord is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in faithful love and truth.

  148. Abounding in faithful love and truth.

  149. To believe that God is a God who gives up.

  150. It's not just wrong, it's completely backwards and against everything that we know to be true about God in Scripture.

  151. And when we read this passage, uh abounding in faithful love and truth, there's two words that I want to focus in on this morning that's gonna help us better understand God's deep commitment to us, even in our failure.

  152. And that first word is faithful love.

  153. Faithful love.

  154. And depending on your translation, you know, the CSB that we're using for this, it says faithful love, which is a great translation of it.

  155. Some translations say steadfast love, some translations say mercy, but the Hebrew word is this word chesed.

  156. And Hesed, of all of the Hebrew words in the Old Testament, is one of the more difficult words for us to translate into English because it encompasses and combines so many different concepts.

  157. That's why it's translated as steadfast love, faithful love, mercy.

  158. Pick a translation, they're gonna translate Hesed just a little bit differently.

  159. But it combines the ideas of love, generosity, and commitment.

  160. And so when God says that he has Hesed, it means he has this generous, enduring love for his people.

  161. And one of my favorite translations that I found that I think more precisely defines what Hesed is, it's in the N-E-T translation, which is a translation that came out of a Dallas theological seminary.

  162. And it translates it like this the Lord is compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, and abounding in loyal love.

  163. Abounding in loyal love.

  164. God's love is more than faithful, it is loyal to you.

  165. See, Hesed, this loyal love, it's a covenantal kind of love.

  166. And a covenant has two parties.

  167. A covenant is an agreement between two people.

  168. But God's hesed does not depend on us holding up our end of the deal.

  169. God's Hesed exists not because of what we do or don't do.

  170. God's Hesed is a commitment to us because He said it was.

  171. It is based on God's very character and nature.

  172. And because God is unchanging, his hesed for you, his loyal love for you is unchanging.

  173. Because God is unwavering, God's loyal love for you is unwavering.

  174. Because God's is committed to you, his loyal love is forever committed to you, no matter what.

  175. And that is good news.

  176. That means that God is committed to me, not because of the things that I do or don't do, not because of my wins or because of my failures, but God is committed to me in his loyal love because he declared it to be so and he does not change.

  177. This is God's loyal love for us.

  178. And Hesed, it's not just an emotion.

  179. It's not just this fuzzy feeling.

  180. God is not saying, hey guys, I've got this really fuzzy feeling towards you guys, especially when you do the right thing.

  181. No, Hesed is defined by its action.

  182. It's not Hesed unless something is done to prove that it is Hesed.

  183. I didn't include this in my notes, but it's kind of dumb, but I'm gonna say it.

  184. It's not Hesed unless it's tested.

  185. It's pretty good, isn't it?

  186. I thought so, but I didn't think it'd make it to the notes.

  187. It's not Hesed unless it's tested.

  188. In other words, it's not enough just to say that I have Hesed for you.

  189. You have to do something to test that Hesed, and I have to respond to it.

  190. And this is precisely what we see God doing from the book of Genesis all the way till revelation and Jesus coming back.

  191. God continues to prove his hesed not by merely reaffirming it to us, but by doing things that prove it to us.

  192. It's God's generous action towards people, especially when they have failed or have fallen short.

  193. That is where we see God's Hesed in action.

  194. His loyal love is in action, not just when we're doing the right thing, but especially when we do the wrong thing.

  195. Because it's not loyal love if it's not tested.

  196. Hesed is God keeping his promise even when we break ours.

  197. God has an undying, committed, loyal love to you that's not based on your actions or behaviors, but it's based on what he declared to be so about you.

  198. So that's Hesed, it's loyal love.

  199. The second word, so it's abounding in faithful love and truth.

  200. What's this word truth mean?

  201. Well, guess what?

  202. It means truth.

  203. Isn't that crazy?

  204. Truth, it's the Hebrew word emet.

  205. It means constancy, it means trustworthiness, it means reliability.

  206. So essentially what it is, when God says uh he's abounding in faithful love and truth, he is doubling down on his hesit.

  207. He's doubling down on something that is already unbreakable.

  208. What basically what he's saying is God's loyal love is the truth.

  209. God's loyal love for your life is the reality.

  210. And here's the danger zone.

  211. Here's what happens, see?

  212. When we experience spiritual failure, when we do the thing that we weren't supposed to do, when we feel the guilt and the condemnation that comes with all that, that sin distorts our reality, and we begin to believe the opposite of God's hesed.

  213. But here's the deal: just because you believe the opposite of what the truth is does not make what you believe the truth.

  214. Okay?

  215. So even when you feel condemned in your heart, even when you're stuck in a cycle of shame, that doesn't make God's loyal love for you any less true.

  216. And guys, you know, I'm gonna be talking about a lot about grace and stuff like that, this message, but I want to tell you this is exactly why sin is so dangerous.

  217. Because as a believer in Jesus Christ, you have access to all the righteousness and all the things in the kingdom of heaven, but sin causes you to believe that you don't.

  218. And if you don't believe you have something, you don't walk in it, you don't utilize it, you don't trust in it.

  219. So sin is so dangerous, but even your sin doesn't negate God's loyal love because God's loyal love for you is the truth.

  220. It is emet, it is reality, regardless of what you think.

  221. Don't believe me, let's look at this.

  222. What does Paul say?

  223. 2 Timothy 2 13.

  224. He says, if we are faithless, he is faithful, for he cannot disown himself.

  225. What are we what is he saying there?

  226. So remove the idea of faith meaning mental belief in Jesus for a second, because what Paul is talking about is commitment.

  227. Even when we lack commitment, he stays committed to us, for he cannot do something that is contrary to his nature.

  228. He cannot disown himself.

  229. It is not in God to give up on you.

  230. Regardless of your failure, regardless of your shortcoming, it is not in God to write you off.

  231. And that is the good news of the gospel, because God is forever tied to you, forever committed to you, whether you believe it or not.

  232. That is God's loyal love.

  233. When we fail, God forgives.

  234. When we are weak, he is strong.

  235. And when we are faithless, he is faithful.

  236. Because he's not going to do anything that's contrary to his nature.

  237. And Jesus.

  238. Is Hesed with a face.

  239. Jesus is Hesed in the flesh.

  240. Jesus is the physical embodiment of God's loyal love towards his people.

  241. See, Hesed and Emmet, loyal love and truth, they don't stop in Exodus.

  242. John, the Apostle John, when he's writing his gospel, actually echoes these passages that we've been reading through in his description of who Jesus is in John chapter 1.

    John 1 chapter mention

  243. So this is John 1.14.

  244. It says, the word, we know that is Jesus, became flesh and made his dwelling among us.

  245. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son who came from the Father, full of what?

  246. Grace and truth.

  247. Well, that sounds a whole lot like Hesed and Emmet.

  248. John is echoing Exodus 34 in his description of Jesus.

  249. Let me read that again.

  250. The word became flesh and made his dwelling among us.

  251. That word dwelling literally in the Greek is tabernacle.

  252. If you are familiar with the Old Testament, you will know that the tabernacle was the temporary place of God's dwelling.

  253. Where?

  254. When he was with Israel, where?

  255. In the desert.

  256. So we already know to take our minds back to the desert where God was dwelling with Israel.

  257. And we have seen his glory.

  258. Who said, Show me your glory?

  259. Moses.

  260. Moses said, Show me your glory.

  261. And John says, We have seen his glory.

  262. The glory of the one and only Son who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

  263. Jesus is Hesed with a face.

  264. Jesus is the fulfillment of God's Hesed.

  265. Grace, when we talk about grace, we're talking about God's unmerited favor and empowerment.

  266. This grace is how we experience God's hesed through Jesus.

  267. Jesus is God's loyal love and faithfulness in the flesh.

  268. And at the cross, God didn't just say he wouldn't give up on humanity.

  269. He proved it.

  270. Why?

  271. Because it's not hesed unless it's tested.

  272. God didn't just say, I love you, I know you're in a dark place.

  273. Hey, we'll get through this.

  274. No, God came in the flesh and he died for you, and it is by the blood of Jesus that we have entrance into this hesed of God, into this loyal love of God.

  275. Exodus says that God is abounding in loyal love, and Paul says it this way.

  276. In Romans 5, 20, it says, But where sin increased, grace abounded all the more.

  277. Grace abounded all the more.

  278. Guys, no matter how much your failures pile up, his grace piles higher.

  279. No matter how much you try to outrun God's loyal love, you can't outrun it.

  280. Because God is for you.

  281. And you may be thinking to yourself, well, does sin matter?

  282. Well, of course sin matters.

  283. And this is something that Paul was, when Paul was preaching the gospel in the Roman Empire, this is something that he was often accused of.

  284. Paul was often accused of saying that sin doesn't matter, you can just do what you want to, but he he ties all of this up in Romans chapter 6 so that, and he says this, should we continue in sin or so that grace may abound?

    Romans 6 chapter mention

  285. By no means.

  286. Why?

  287. Because it is God's grace who sets us free from sin, doesn't give us freedom to sin.

  288. So when we are walking in God's loyal love for our life, this isn't freedom to continue in our spiritual disaster.

  289. It is freedom to get out of it.

  290. This is God's loyal love.

  291. God's loyal love doesn't exist for you to sit in your mess.

  292. God's loyal love gives you endless opportunities to get out of your mess.

  293. God keeps his promises even when we break ours.

  294. God does not give up.

  295. So what do we do with this loyal love that comes from God, abounding in faithfulness and truth?

  296. Well, if God doesn't give up on me, I'm not gonna give up on God.

  297. If God doesn't give up on me, if he has loyal love for me, I'm gonna reciprocate.

  298. I'm not gonna give up on God.

  299. And I know that there are people in here today that you are have been close to or are close to now to giving up on God.

  300. Maybe you didn't see an outcome that you were praying for.

  301. Maybe something happened and you had no explanation for it.

  302. Maybe you've experienced some sort of spiritual disappointment, but all, and I don't have the answer to why all that is, but I do know one thing: God is not going to give up on you, so you don't need to give up on God.

  303. That doesn't mean that you're gonna get an answer, but it doesn't mean you need to run away from what you're going through.

  304. It means that you need to walk with God through it because his loyal love is gonna get you through it.

  305. Don't give up on God.

  306. Give God a chance to reveal himself to you.

  307. That's my ask.

  308. If you're in that place, that's my ask from you this morning.

  309. Give God a chance to reveal his loyal love to you.

  310. Hebrews 10, 23, and here's the thing: the book of Hebrews was written to a highly persecuted church.

  311. These people were being kicked out of the temple, they were losing their jobs, some of them were being put in jail, they were losing their family.

  312. And so if you think you're the only person that's ever gone through something terrible, you're not.

  313. And this is what Paul says to the people who are being persecuted.

  314. He says, let us hold tightly without wavering to the hope that we affirm.

  315. For God can be trusted to keep his promises.

  316. I may not have the answer to why you're going through what you're going through right now.

  317. I wish I did, but I don't.

  318. But I and hundreds of millions of other people who have put their faith in Christ throughout the centuries can all say together, God can be trusted to keep his promises.

  319. So if God doesn't give up on me, I won't give up on God.

  320. What else?

  321. If God doesn't give up on me, I won't give up on me.

  322. If God doesn't give up on me, I'm not gonna give up on me.

  323. And some of you may think at this point, man, this is sound, this sounds like a self-help sermon.

  324. Well, here's the thing: sometimes yourself needs some help from yourself.

  325. Man, some of you have given up.

  326. Some of you have been stuck in this cycle of spiritual failure for so long, you don't see the light of the end of the tunnel, and you've stopped reaching out.

  327. There's a very curious uh uh, actually, there's a few chapters in the book of Judges where Israel's just in this cycle of failure over and over and over again.

  328. And after each chapter ends, it would say, but Israel cried out to God and he delivered them.

  329. And then finally we get to this curious chapter right before Samson, where Israel had stopped crying out, and that's where their problems really began.

  330. When we quit crying out to God.

  331. Here's the deal: if you're in Christ, if you're a believer in Jesus, your sins and your failures, they might have some real world consequences, but they don't have a history.

  332. God is not holding your sins against you.

  333. That doesn't mean you might not have to clean some stuff up because you've caused a mess.

  334. But God, the Bible says that God casts our sins as far as the East is from the West.

  335. That's eternally far.

  336. Paul says, so there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus.

  337. Here's the thing: if you don't belong to Christ Jesus, there's a whole lot of condemnation waiting for you.

  338. But if you belong to Jesus, there is no condemnation, there is no shame, there is no guilt.

  339. The blood of Jesus that got you saved today is going to be the blood of Jesus that cleans you up for tomorrow.

  340. It never, never runs out.

  341. This doesn't mean that we don't take accountability for our failures, but we can't camp out there.

  342. See, if you are in Jesus, failure is just a distraction, not a destination.

  343. Right?

  344. You have to give yourself as many chances as God is willing to give you to get out of your mess.

  345. And God's chances are endless.

  346. Why?

  347. Because his love is loyal.

  348. Don't give up on yourself.

  349. Don't get caught in the cycle of condemnation and guilt.

  350. Failure for you is just a distraction.

  351. It's not where you're supposed to camp out.

  352. But if you give up on yourself and you quit reaching for God, it doesn't make your situation better.

  353. It makes it worse.

  354. So if God doesn't give up on me, I won't give up on me.

  355. And what's the final thing?

  356. Look, if God doesn't give up on me, I won't give up on others.

  357. When God reveals himself, he's not just revealing who he is, he's revealing the kind of people that we are supposed to be.

  358. So if God is compassionate and gracious, we are called to be what?

  359. Compassionate and gracious.

  360. If God reveals himself as being slow to anger, what are we supposed to be?

  361. Slow to anger.

  362. And if God is full of loyal love, we are called to be full of what?

  363. Loyal love.

  364. Look, we don't give mercy in order to earn God's loyal love.

  365. We give it because we've already received it.

  366. People who have been given Hesed, loyal love, are now a people that give Hesed to other people.

  367. And here's the thing about the gifts of God: just because you receive a gift from God and give it away, we say this all the time, it doesn't mean you don't have it anymore.

  368. When God gives you a gift, he gives it to you forever and he gives it to you to give away.

  369. So if you receive Hesed from God, you are called to give Hesed to other people.

  370. And Pastor Jamie mentioned this last week during his message, but I wanted to reformat it and say, it's easy to want Hesed for ourselves, but justice for everybody else.

  371. Hey, I want a million chances, but you're on my last nerve.

  372. God forgive me of all my debts, but you better pay up by next Monday.

  373. You can't be a person who receives loyal love and doesn't give loyal love.

  374. You can't receive loyal love with one hand and withhold it with the other.

  375. Micah 6, 8 says this.

  376. He says, He has shown you, O mortal.

  377. When the Bible says, O mortal, it makes you seem so small.

  378. That's all I am, just a mortal.

  379. He has shown you, O mortal, what is good.

  380. And what does the Lord require of you?

  381. To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.

  382. That word for mercy, guess what it might be?

  383. Hasid.

  384. Loyal love.

  385. Be a person of integrity.

  386. Be a person who loves loyally.

  387. And be a person of humility.

  388. God doesn't just show us loyal love, He calls us to love loyally to other people.

  389. So who's the person you've given up on?

  390. Hmm?

  391. Who's the friend that hurt you that you're not talking to anymore?

  392. That brother in Christ who you've been offended with for you don't know how long.

  393. That member of your family who keeps letting you down over and over and over again.

  394. That coworker that you've written off.

  395. Loyal love doesn't mean that you ignore boundaries.

  396. It doesn't mean that you stay in harm's way.

  397. But having loyal love for other people means that you never write somebody off.

  398. God's highest praise is often sung in our greatest failures.

  399. Everybody loves Jesus when they hit rock bottom.

  400. Israel was at one of their lowest points in history before God had ever even established a covenant with them.

  401. They made an idol, a golden calf, and said, This is our God.

  402. But God had a loyal love for Israel.

  403. And instead of scrapping the plan, picking a new nation, he reaffirms his loyal love to them.

  404. And he does the same for us.

  405. And our lowest points is when God reveals himself most clearly.

  406. Not so that we can take advantage of it, but God's kindness, his loyal love is meant to lead us to repentance.

  407. Look, if you've listened to this sermon and you're like, woo-hoo, I get to do what I want to do.

  408. You need to get saved.

  409. But if you heard this and thought, you know what, I might have another chance, I want to confirm you do.

  410. You don't just have one more, you have unlimited chances to become the kind of person that God's calling you to be.

  411. To be the husband you're called to be, to be the wife, to be the employee, to be the brother, to be the son, to be the friend.

  412. God is calling you higher and he's giving you unlimited chances.

  413. So what would your life look like if you actually trusted in God's loyal love?

  414. Man, God keeps his promises even when we break ours.

  415. God does not give up.

  416. Man, if you trusted in God's loyal love, you would run to God instead of away from him when you experienced a spiritual failure.

  417. Your failures would become teaching moments instead of death sentences.

  418. The people who have experienced massive failure, you know what they would do?

  419. They would come back to church instead of disappearing from it.

  420. If we trusted in God's loyal love as a church, you know what?

  421. The church would be known for their loyal love and not their hypocrisy.

  422. Look, we can't believe what the angry Christian has to say about God.

  423. We can't believe what the passive Christian has to say about God.

  424. We have to believe what God says about himself.

  425. And so my question for you all this morning is are you trusting in God's loyal love?

  426. Man, have you have you written God off?

  427. Are you judging his love based on your failures or your circumstances or what he says or declared about you?

  428. Have you given up on yourself?

  429. Or have you been hurt so many times?

  430. Man, you're just you're writing people off.

  431. You know how we start to course correct with that?

  432. We begin to trust in God's loyal love, his Hesed.

  433. Amen?

  434. Let's stand.

  435. Thank you, Lord.

  436. I want you to close your eyes for a second and just think about that.

  437. Have you believed the lie that God's love has limits?

  438. Have you believed the lie that God has written you off?

  439. Have you written yourself off?

  440. Is that bleeding on other people?

  441. Thank you, Lord.

  442. I want you guys to uh I want to say this final prayer.

  443. I want you guys to repeat this after me.

  444. Say, dear Heavenly Father, I know that you keep your promises even when I break mine.

  445. You do not give up.

  446. And because you don't give up, I'm not gonna give up on you.

  447. And because you don't give up, I'm not gonna give up on myself.

  448. And because you don't give up, I'm not gonna give up on others.

  449. Lord help me to trust in your loyal love.

  450. In Jesus' name.

  451. Amen.

  452. Amen.

  453. Amen.
