  1. Today I'm going to preach on the role of a woman.

  2. The role of a woman.

  3. So this is the second of two sermons in a series on gender roles.

  4. If you missed the one for the men, men, you can listen to that one online.

  5. I did that one two weeks ago on the role of a man.

  6. So today it's going to be the role of a woman, but men, do not check out.

  7. It's good for the men to hear about the role of a woman,

  8. especially if you're married,

  9. because you're supposed to live with your wife in an understanding way, right?

  10. So hopefully this will help you understand,

  11. because I have an extensive understanding of women.

  12. Jeannie, that's just a smile or laugh at that.

  13. You're supposed to say, yeah, of course, of course, of course.

  14. No, but the good thing about the Word of God is that it teaches us these things.

  15. And so there's basic truths that we can all learn from.

  16. So I'll talk to you basically about what a woman is and how to act like one.

  17. So I'm going to go over seven different things just to give you by way of intro here.

  18. A woman is beautifully confident.

  19. A woman is the glory and helper of man.

  20. A woman is a lover of children.

  21. A woman is a wise teacher.

  22. A woman is a worker.

  23. A woman is a domestic executive.

  24. And a woman is a submitted follower.

  25. Okay?

  26. And all of these are not just by command, but by creation.

  27. Not just by demand, but by design.

  28. That's an important point there.

  29. Okay?

  30. So we believe that men and women are equal in value, but different in roles everywhere.

  31. Because their roles are hardwired into creation and nature.

  32. If gender roles are rooted in creation and the very nature of men and women, then they apply everywhere, and it makes no sense to limit them just to church and home.

  33. Zachary Garris said the attempt to limit gender roles to the home and church is dualistic, and that it pits the religious against the secular.

  34. But God designed men to be men in all of life.

  35. And he has designed women to be women in all of life.

  36. In the home, church, and society.

  37. Women do not get to act like men just because they have stepped outside of the home into broader society.

  38. A woman takes her womanly nature with her wherever she goes.

  39. And a man takes his manly nature with him wherever he goes.

  40. Okay?

  41. So let's jump in.

  42. A woman is, number one, beautifully confident.

  43. Beautifully confident.

  44. A woman is called to be beautifully confident, strong, and secure with a quiet spirit.

  45. Alright?

  46. We'll start with the first.

  47. This is the fruit of her whole.

  48. 1 Peter 3, 3-6 says,

  49. Do not let your adorning be external, the braiding of hair and the putting on of gold jewelry or the clothing you wear.

  50. But let your adorning be the hidden person of the heart with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit,

  51. which in God's sight is very precious.

  52. For this is how the holy women who hoped in God used to adorn themselves.

  53. The new living says, made themselves beautiful, which is the definition of adornment.

  54. This is how the holy women who hoped in God used to adorn themselves by submitting to their own husbands,

  55. as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him Lord.

  56. And you are her children if you do good and do not fear anything that is frightening.

  57. So there's so much great stuff in this verse when it comes to womanhood.

  58. Alright?

  59. Not the least being when it says, which in God's sight is very precious.

  60. To know that as a woman you can possess something that is very precious in God's sight.

  61. I would think for any woman that would be a highlight for you to say, wow, what a statement.

  62. What a statement that God would say that when there's an imperishable beauty,

  63. a beauty that does not fade, of a gentle and quiet spirit, which in God's sight is very precious.

  64. And so he's talking about not letting your adorning be external.

  65. Okay?

  66. There is an outward or external adorning or beautification, and then there's an internal one.

  67. Some legalists would take this and say, with this verse, you can't do your hair, you can't wear jewelry.

  68. But if they neglect to do the last one, that would be that you also couldn't wear clothes.

  69. So clearly that's not what they're saying here.

  70. Because you can't just pick and choose a couple of them and then pick the last one and say, but you have to wear clothes.

  71. He's not talking here about some kind of legalistic rule structure here.

  72. He's talking about where your adornment comes from.

  73. He's saying you can do these things, but don't let those things be the source of your beauty.

  74. Don't let the braiding of your hair or the wearing of gold jewelry or the clothes you wear,

  75. don't let those things be the source of your adornment, of the way you are made beautiful.

  76. But it should be the imperishable beauty.

  77. See, those things will fade.

  78. Those things fade.

  79. Those are perishable.

  80. There's an imperishable beauty, a beauty that doesn't fade, that comes from the inside.

  81. It's a gentle and quiet spirit.

  82. Gentle in that it doesn't have to make its own way because it's trusting that God is for them.

  83. Okay?

  84. And quiet in that it doesn't have to fight for itself because knowing that God is for each and every woman.

  85. And so when you know that, it causes you and gives you a freedom to be gentle and quiet,

  86. which in God's side is very precious.

  87. And this is how the holy women who hoped in God used to adorn themselves.

  88. This is how people used to make themselves beautiful.

  89. This is the ancient way.

  90. This is the ancient path.

  91. By submitting their own husbands to Sarah B. Abraham, calling him Lord,

  92. and your children if you do good.

  93. And do not fear anything that is frightening.

  94. A lot of women know that it is frightening oftentimes to submit to a man because he's not God.

  95. He's not perfect.

  96. He makes mistakes.

  97. And so we're not saying that a woman needs to be unafraid because it's not actually frightening.

  98. It's saying, hey, there are legitimate things that are scary.

  99. It's scary oftentimes to follow a man.

  100. But you don't have to fear that which is frightening because your hope is in God,

  101. not in that particular man.

  102. And when your hope is in God and you have protection and safety and security in him,

  103. it frees you to lose having to find it in a man, in your circumstances.

  104. And that makes you beautiful.

  105. And if you ask any man, there's something about a woman could walk in a room,

  106. a man could see that woman from a distance, say, wow, that's a really attractive woman.

  107. And then when they get close, if that woman is insecure,

  108. immediately it's like a certain level of the beauty fades.

  109. And in the same way, maybe a woman walks in a room and the man doesn't notice her,

  110. but then all of a sudden he starts talking to her,

  111. realizes she's very secure, very confident.

  112. And there's something about her that starts to sparkle or something that just is magnified.

  113. There's a glory about it.

  114. It's a beauty that comes from not being afraid.

  115. It's a beauty that comes from putting your hope in the Lord.

  116. It's an adornment.

  117. Okay.

  118. First Timothy 2, 9 to 15 says,

  119. Women should adorn themselves in respectable apparel,

  120. with modesty and self-control,

  121. not with braided hair and gold or pearls or costly attire,

  122. but with what is proper for women who profess godliness,

  123. with good works.

  124. Let a woman learn quietly with all submissiveness.

  125. So again, it's speaking of not having to draw attention

  126. and get my security from outward.

  127. When the security is inward, it emanates a beauty outward.

  128. Do you see that?

  129. Internal beauty versus external beauty.

  130. These are important things.

  131. And we're a culture that's obsessed with feminine appearance.

  132. Okay.

  133. But feminine adorning is rooted in feminine constitution.

  134. It's rooted in what makes up a woman.

  135. And I want you ladies to just know,

  136. don't for a second,

  137. let feminism objectify or commodify your body.

  138. Not in real life, not on Instagram,

  139. Be Real or any other social platform.

  140. I don't know if you realize this,

  141. but these social networks are commodifying you.

  142. They're commodifying the woman's body.

  143. Commercials are commodifying the woman's body.

  144. They are making money by pictures of you.

  145. This is,

  146. this is what's happening.

  147. And you can't let your worth,

  148. your sense of security be defined by the eyeballs and the likes that you get when other people are looking at you.

  149. You get that from the Lord.

  150. That's where that comes from.

  151. And it's not empowering to use your body in that way.

  152. That's not being more feminine or being more a woman.

  153. That's a distortion,

  154. a perversion of where your true beauty comes from.

  155. Don't for one second,

  156. let feminism objectify or commodify your body.

  157. That is not the way God has created you.

  158. You've been adorned.

  159. You're supposed to adorn yourself without,

  160. so you're supposed to adorn yourself with not being fearful.

  161. There's nothing more beautiful than a woman who's unafraid.

  162. This is Mary,

  163. right?

  164. When Mary's told that she's going to have the Messiah,

  165. that was basically a death sentence.

  166. You could be stoned for that.

  167. And what does she say?

  168. Let it be to me.

  169. According to your word,

  170. behold,

  171. I am a servant of the Lord.

  172. This is a woman who doesn't get into that,

  173. which is frightening.

  174. In Luke 1 45,

  175. it says,

  176. Blessed is she who believed that there would be a fulfillment of what was spoken to her from the Lord.

  177. She's clothed with a quiet spirit,

  178. right?

  179. It actually says in Proverbs 9 13,

  180. that the woman folly is loud.

  181. She is seductive and knows nothing.

  182. There's a,

  183. there's a certain quietness about a woman who's secure and trust in her Lord.

  184. And there's a loudness that is unbecoming of a respectable woman.

  185. A woman,

  186. the woman folly is loud.

  187. She clothes herself with modesty and self-control.

  188. Proverbs 11 22 says like a gold ring and a pig snout is a woman who shows no discretion.

  189. She clothes herself with strength.

  190. Proverbs 31 17 says she dresses herself with strength and makes her arms strong.

  191. Women are beautifully confident,

  192. beautifully strong.

  193. There's a masculine strength and there's a feminine strength.

  194. There's a feminine strength of constitution that says,

  195. I will not be afraid of what is to come.

  196. And I am trusting in my God.

  197. My hope,

  198. my strong,

  199. my strength and hope gives me strength anywhere else.

  200. Proverbs 31 25 says strength and dignity are her clothing.

  201. And she laughs at the time to come.

  202. There is an,

  203. there is an unbelieving laugh that Sarah had when she heard that she was going to have a baby at a hundred years old.

  204. And then there's a laugh that laughs at the days to come saying,

  205. my God is for me.

  206. I am a strong woman.

  207. I can handle things.

  208. I can handle tough times because I know my God is with me.

  209. Women are meant to be beautifully strong,

  210. clothed with dignity.

  211. First Timothy 3 11 talks about either,

  212. depending how you read it,

  213. either the wives of a deacon or women deacons,

  214. that their wives likewise must be dignified,

  215. not slanders with sober minded,

  216. faithful in all things.

  217. Definition of dignified is worthy of honor or respect.

  218. Does older women likewise are to be reverent in behavior,

  219. not slanders or slaves to much wine.

  220. Women should be clothed with good works and submission.

  221. We'll look at those a little bit later here.

  222. Women want to know that they're beautiful.

  223. When you think of kids,

  224. girls say,

  225. daddy,

  226. look,

  227. boys say,

  228. daddy,

  229. watch.

  230. Girls say,

  231. look at who I am.

  232. And a boy says,

  233. look at what I do.

  234. This is part of what's wired into them.

  235. Okay.

  236. Men do are defining themselves what they do.

  237. Women are defining themselves by how they look a lot of times.

  238. A woman who's not beautifully confident is usually a woman who's not been fought for by men.

  239. This makes a woman prone to fear,

  240. control,

  241. manipulation,

  242. comparison,

  243. and envy.

  244. I think there's a great verse for this in Psalm 131, 1 to 3.

  245. Oh Lord,

  246. my heart is not lifted up.

  247. My eyes are not raised too high.

  248. I do not occupy myself with things too great and too marvelous for me,

  249. but I have calmed and quieted my soul.

  250. Like a weaned child with its mother,

  251. like a weaned child is my soul within me.

  252. Oh Israel,

  253. hope in the Lord from this time forth and forevermore.

  254. She's beautifully confident.

  255. This is the fruit of her hope.

  256. And this is why true femininity resides fully and most manifestly in the gospel.

  257. When you are able to trust and hope in the Lord,

  258. it says,

  259. holy women who put their hope in God,

  260. holy women who trusted God.

  261. Ladies,

  262. are you beautifully confident?

  263. Are you beautifully confident?

  264. Number two,

  265. a woman is the glory and helper of man.

  266. Okay,

  267. a woman is called to be the glory and helper of man,

  268. the fruit of her stewardship.

  269. Genesis 2,

  270. starting verse 18,

  271. says,

  272. the Lord God said,

  273. it's not good that the man should be alone.

  274. I will make him a helper fit for him.

  275. Verse 21,

  276. so the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man,

  277. and while he slept,

  278. took one of his ribs and closed up its place with flesh.

  279. And the rib that the Lord God had taken from the man,

  280. he made into a woman and brought her to the man.

  281. So,

  282. she was made from the man,

  283. for the man.

  284. This is described in 1 Corinthians 11,

  285. 79.

  286. A man is the image and glory of God,

  287. but woman is the glory of man.

  288. Why?

  289. Verse 8,

  290. for man was not made from woman,

  291. but woman from man.

  292. Neither was man created for woman,

  293. but woman for man.

  294. Woman was created for man.

  295. That flies in the face of feminist society,

  296. but it's the truth.

  297. It's the truth from creation.

  298. And it speaks to a woman's role.

  299. Nevertheless,

  300. 1 Corinthians 11,

  301. 11 says,

  302. in the Lord,

  303. woman is not independent of man,

  304. nor man of woman.

  305. Okay,

  306. you can't take some chauvinistic view then and says,

  307. okay,

  308. we don't need women because it just only exists for man to whatever degree he wants,

  309. but it says that they're not independent of another.

  310. And you can't take a feminist view that says,

  311. hey,

  312. I don't need men.

  313. Men are optional.

  314. Men are important.

  315. It says,

  316. woman is not independent of man.

  317. The feminist movement is built on the premise that woman is independent of man.

  318. And the Bible shouts from the rooftops,

  319. woman is not independent of man.

  320. Woman was created for man to be his helper.

  321. Great quote here by Elizabeth Elliot.

  322. She says,

  323. femininity receives.

  324. It says,

  325. may it be to me as you have said,

  326. like Luke 1 38.

  327. It takes what God gives a special place,

  328. a special honor,

  329. a special function and glory different from that of masculinity meant to be a help.

  330. In other words,

  331. it is for us women to receive the given as Mary did,

  332. not to insist on the not given as Eve did.

  333. A woman is the glory of man as a distinguished quality or asset that makes things better.

  334. She helps by glorifying what is given to her.

  335. She makes things glorious.

  336. That's what women do.

  337. Jim Gaffigan,

  338. you might be one,

  339. I'm quoting Jim Gaffigan right after Elizabeth Elliot.

  340. Jim Gaffigan says,

  341. women are amazing.

  342. A woman can grow a baby inside their body,

  343. and then somehow a woman can deliver the baby through their body.

  344. And then by some miracle,

  345. a woman can feed a baby with her body.

  346. And then when you think of the male contribution to life,

  347. it's kind of embarrassing.

  348. But I think it's a great example of how male contributes,

  349. not a whole lot in this instance.

  350. And look at what a woman does.

  351. She glorifies it.

  352. She makes it better.

  353. She takes the body that God has given,

  354. and she produces this baby.

  355. She feeds this baby.

  356. She nurtures this baby.

  357. It's an amazing miracle.

  358. But this is what a woman does.

  359. She glorifies what's given to her.

  360. Proverbs 31, 10 to 12 says,

  361. an excellent wife who can find,

  362. she is far more precious than jewels.

  363. The heart of her husband trusts in her,

  364. and he will have no lack of gain.

  365. She does him good and not harm all the days of her life.

  366. So she's looking to do her husband good.

  367. Proverbs 12, 4 says,

  368. an excellent wife is the crown of her husband.

  369. It's another way of saying the glory, right?

  370. The crown of her husband.

  371. She who brings shame is like rottenness in his bones.

  372. Proverbs 31, 23 says,

  373. her husband, this is the Proverbs 31 woman,

  374. her husband is known in the gates

  375. when he sits among the elders of the land.

  376. Well, what is that husband known for?

  377. You look later on in verse 31,

  378. it says, let her works praise her in the gates.

  379. So the husband is known in the gates.

  380. Why?

  381. What's being praised in the gates?

  382. The woman's works.

  383. She's known,

  384. and he's known in the gates because of this woman,

  385. this helper,

  386. this one who's glorified.

  387. You might say,

  388. helper just seems like such a lesser thing.

  389. If you ever think that,

  390. I just want you to ask,

  391. is the Holy Spirit any less God?

  392. What is his title?

  393. The helper.

  394. Okay?

  395. That's a distortion to think that way.

  396. Being a helper doesn't make you any less of value.

  397. That comes from defining yourself by what you do.

  398. And we don't do that.

  399. That's what the world does.

  400. A wife should take what a husband gives and glorify it.

  401. So wives,

  402. taking things off your husband's plate

  403. is a good thing to do.

  404. You say, hey, how can I help him?

  405. How can I help him do more?

  406. How can I help him

  407. just crush it in what he's called to?

  408. So I'm going to look to try and take things off of his plate.

  409. I am going to,

  410. I'm not just going to wait for him to come home

  411. and have him do everything.

  412. I'm going to look and say,

  413. how can I help him

  414. and help make him be able to run faster and better?

  415. And by the way,

  416. this is not just for married people,

  417. the concept of being a helper.

  418. Single ladies.

  419. Mark 15, 40 to 41,

  420. there was also a woman looking on from a distance.

  421. Among them were Mary Magdalene

  422. and Mary the mother of James,

  423. the younger and of Josie's,

  424. and Salome.

  425. When he was in Galilee,

  426. they followed him and ministered to him.

  427. And there were also many other women

  428. who came up with him to Jerusalem.

  429. Jesus had women who followed him

  430. and then ministered to him.

  431. Luke 8, 1 to 3 says,

  432. the 12 were with him

  433. and also some women

  434. who provided for them out of their means.

  435. Romans 16, 1 to 2 says,

  436. I commend you our sister Phoebe,

  437. a servant of the church at Century.

  438. She has been a patron of many

  439. and of myself as well.

  440. There you have single women

  441. helping, providing funds for,

  442. ministering to.

  443. This is important roles here.

  444. Philippians 4, 2 to 3 says,

  445. I entreat Judea,

  446. I entreat Syntyche to agree in the Lord.

  447. Yes, I ask you also, true companion,

  448. help these women

  449. who have labored side by side

  450. with me in the gospel,

  451. together with Clement

  452. and the rest of my fellow workers

  453. whose names are in the book of life.

  454. Paul did amazing things for the gospel.

  455. Paul did amazing things

  456. through the establishing of churches.

  457. And he had women

  458. who labored side by side with him,

  459. helping him.

  460. Helping him.

  461. Isn't that an awesome thing to think of?

  462. Ladies, are you the glory

  463. and helper of men?

  464. Number three,

  465. woman is a lover of children.

  466. Lover of children.

  467. Called to love, bear,

  468. and nurture children.

  469. She's called to be a mother.

  470. Definitely, there's a natural mother

  471. if possible,

  472. but for sure,

  473. even if not a natural mother,

  474. a spiritual mother,

  475. a motherly heart,

  476. a heart to mother,

  477. the fruit of her womb.

  478. Creation teaches this even.

  479. If you look at a woman's body,

  480. a woman has ovaries,

  481. a uterus,

  482. and lactating mammary glands.

  483. Okay?

  484. No man has that.

  485. So men and women,

  486. they're the same.

  487. Are you kidding me?

  488. Are you kidding me?

  489. There's no way.

  490. God created distinction

  491. with a purpose.

  492. Women have a totally different body

  493. and it speaks to their role.

  494. To say that a woman has no role

  495. with children is absurdity

  496. when you just look at

  497. how God created a woman's body

  498. different from a man.

  499. Titus 2 verse 4 says,

    Titus 2:4

  500. Train the young women

  501. to love their husbands

  502. and children.

  503. Train them to love children.

  504. 1 Timothy 5, 9-10

  505. and verse 14 says,

  506. Let a widow be enrolled.

  507. Tell me what.

  508. Who are the widows

  509. who should be taken care of?

  510. Let her be enrolled

  511. if she has brought up children.

  512. I would have younger widows marry,

  513. bear children.

  514. You see this?

  515. This pushing towards women

  516. to bear children,

  517. to bring up children.

  518. 1 Timothy 2, 14-15

  519. says,

  520. Adam was not deceived,

  521. but the woman was deceived

  522. and became a transgressor.

  523. Yet,

  524. she will be saved

  525. through childbearing

  526. if they continue in faith

  527. and love and holiness

  528. with self-control.

  529. Saved through childbearing.

  530. Is that like,

  531. saved like,

  532. you know,

  533. gospel saved?

  534. No,

  535. because that would mean

  536. you could only be saved

  537. if you had a kid.

  538. That's obviously not

  539. what this is talking about.

  540. What kind of saved

  541. is being talked about here?

  542. There are multiple forms

  543. of the word salvation.

  544. This word here

  545. is talking about

  546. being saved from deception.

  547. If you look at the context

  548. of the rest of that book

  549. and how saved is being used,

  550. it's talking about

  551. being saved from deception.

  552. A woman is saved

  553. from the deception

  554. that Eve fell into

  555. when she stays

  556. in her God-given role

  557. to love children.

  558. One of the reasons

  559. that Eve sinned

  560. is because she got

  561. outside of her role

  562. and decided to be

  563. the leader

  564. instead of the follower.

  565. She decided to

  566. usurp her husband's role

  567. and one of those

  568. damning verses

  569. is that her husband

  570. was with her.

  571. One of the things

  572. to save a woman

  573. from deception

  574. is that she functions

  575. in her God-given role.

  576. One of those

  577. is childbearing,

  578. raising children,

  579. loving children.

  580. Romans 16, 13 says,

  581. this is Paul

  582. at the end of his

  583. amazing letter to Romans,

  584. he closes it by saying,

  585. Greek Rufus,

  586. chosen in the Lord,

  587. also his mother,

  588. who has been a mother

  589. to me as well.

  590. What is the reward

  591. of the spiritual mother

  592. of Paul?

  593. Have you ever

  594. thought about that?

  595. That Paul had someone

  596. who was like a mother

  597. to him.

  598. What role did that

  599. play in his life?

  600. How important was that?

  601. Enough where he

  602. called her out here

  603. and said,

  604. Rufus and her mother,

  605. and his mother,

  606. who has been a mother

  607. to me as well.

  608. What a role

  609. that we could be mothers

  610. to people who aren't,

  611. that a woman could be

  612. a mother to someone

  613. who's not their

  614. actual blood son,

  615. but a powerful role.

  616. Powerful role.

  617. What did Jesus curse

  618. after the fall?

  619. What he cursed

  620. speaks to the role.

  621. He cursed a man's work,

  622. which speaks to the fact

  623. that he was called

  624. to be a worker,

  625. right?

  626. And what did he curse

  627. on the woman?

  628. He cursed her childbearing.

  629. I will surely multiply

  630. your pain and childbearing

  631. and pain you shall bring

  632. for our children.

  633. He cursed that particular thing

  634. because that's her role.

  635. Psalm 127,

    Psalms 127:3

  636. verse 3,

  637. in the NASB,

  638. says,

  639. Behold,

  640. children are a gift

  641. of the Lord.

  642. The fruit of the womb

  643. is a reward.

  644. Do you see children

  645. as a blessing?

  646. Ladies,

  647. are you a lover

  648. of children?

  649. Proverbs 30,

  650. 15 to 16,

  651. says,

  652. The barren womb

  653. is never satisfied.

  654. Why is the barren womb

  655. never satisfied?

  656. Because women naturally

  657. long for children.

  658. It's their natural disposition.

  659. There's something

  660. very broken in a woman

  661. when she doesn't like children

  662. or she doesn't want children.

  663. It's a very broken woman

  664. who doesn't want them.

  665. Ladies,

  666. are you a lover

  667. of children?

  668. You're a lover

  669. of children.

  670. Number four,

  671. a woman is a wise teacher.

  672. A woman is called

  673. to be a wise teacher

  674. and trainer.

  675. This is the fruit

  676. of her lips.

  677. Proverbs 8,

  678. 9,

  679. both speak of wisdom

  680. and folly

  681. as women.

  682. They're personified

  683. as ladies.

  684. Lady wisdom,

  685. lady folly.

  686. Okay?

  687. The fact that wisdom

  688. is personified

  689. as a lady

  690. should speak to us

  691. that a woman

  692. should be a good picture

  693. of what it is

  694. to be wise.

  695. And if she doesn't do that,

  696. she could fall

  697. into the other picture

  698. would be the lady folly.

  699. But I think it's,

  700. God has called women

  701. to speak

  702. with wisdom.

  703. 10,

  704. 2,

  705. 3 to 5

  706. says,

  707. Older women,

  708. they are to teach

  709. what is good

  710. and so train

  711. the young women

  712. to love their husbands

  713. and children,

  714. to be self-controlled,

  715. pure,

  716. working at home,

  717. kind and submissive

  718. to their own husbands

  719. that the word of God

  720. may not be reviled.

  721. Proverbs 1,

    Proverbs 1:8

  722. verse 8

  723. and 6,

  724. verse 20

  725. says,

  726. Forsake not

  727. your mother's teaching.

  728. Mothers are to teach

  729. their children.

  730. Proverbs 31,

  731. 1,

  732. the words of King Lemuel,

  733. so this is a king speaking,

  734. and he says

  735. it's an oracle

  736. that who taught him?

  737. That his mother taught him.

  738. Think of the thought

  739. of a mother

  740. teaching things

  741. that would be useful

  742. for a king.

  743. Proverbs 31,

  744. 26 says,

  745. she opens her mouth

  746. with wisdom

  747. and the teaching

  748. of kindness

  749. is on her tongue.

  750. What a great verse,

  751. right?

  752. Acts 18,

  753. 24 to 26,

  754. we have the picture

  755. of Priscilla,

  756. okay?

  757. A Jew named Apollos,

  758. a native of Alexandria,

  759. came to Ephesus.

  760. I think there's good reason

  761. to believe he was an apostle.

  762. So here you have Apollos,

  763. an apostle,

  764. came to Ephesus,

  765. and this guy's

  766. an eloquent man.

  767. He's competent

  768. in scriptures.

  769. He had been instructed

  770. in the way of the Lord,

  771. and being fervent

  772. in spirit,

  773. he spoke and taught

  774. accurately the things

  775. concerning Jesus,

  776. though he knew

  777. only the baptism of John.

  778. So he's got a lot

  779. of things right,

  780. but he's missing

  781. some things.

  782. He's missing

  783. some information here.

  784. In other words,

  785. he needs to be taught.

  786. Okay?

  787. He began to speak

  788. boldly in the synagogue,

  789. but when Priscilla

  790. and Aquila heard him,

  791. they took him aside

  792. and explained to him

  793. the way of God

  794. more accurately.

  795. Now, it doesn't just say

  796. Aquila spoke to him.

  797. It said Priscilla and Aquila.

  798. There was a way

  799. that they both taught

  800. as a married couple.

  801. There was a way

  802. that it wasn't just the man,

  803. but the woman taught as well.

  804. There's an appropriate way

  805. for a woman

  806. to be able to teach a man

  807. in the context of reverence,

  808. in the context of marriage

  809. like this,

  810. in the context,

  811. even outside of marriage,

  812. there's a way

  813. that a woman

  814. can bring instruction

  815. in a godly way

  816. where she's not taking authority

  817. over the man.

  818. Okay?

  819. Women should be

  820. full of wisdom.

  821. They should be educated.

  822. They should be

  823. theologically astute.

  824. They should be skillful.

  825. They should have skills.

  826. They should know

  827. how to do things.

  828. They should know

  829. how to get things done.

  830. They should know

  831. the Word of God.

  832. John Piper says,

  833. Wimpy theology

  834. makes wimpy women.

  835. Wimpy theology

  836. simply does not

  837. give a woman a God

  838. that is big enough,

  839. strong enough,

  840. wise enough,

  841. and good enough

  842. to handle

  843. the realities of life

  844. in a way that magnifies

  845. the infinite worth

  846. of Jesus.

  847. Ladies,

  848. do you have

  849. wimpy theology?

  850. Do you have

  851. strong,

  852. robust theology?

  853. Are you a student

  854. of the Word?

  855. Are you someone

  856. who studies God

  857. and seeks out God?

  858. Are you a woman

  859. who knows how to do things?

  860. You know how to get

  861. things done.

  862. You're not just

  863. farming it out

  864. to other people,

  865. hurrying it out

  866. to people.

  867. You are someone

  868. who knows things

  869. so that other women

  870. can come to you

  871. and say,

  872. How do I do this?

  873. And you have answers.

  874. You have wisdom.

  875. Wisdom's on your tongue.

  876. You're able to instruct.

  877. You're able to tell

  878. other people,

  879. Hey,

  880. this is how you do this

  881. with kids.

  882. This is how you make this.

  883. This is how this works.

  884. This is,

  885. and you can teach.

  886. You can teach and train.

  887. Some of you would say,

  888. I'm not there.

  889. I wasn't parented well.

  890. I wasn't taught myself

  891. or I was taught poorly.

  892. Okay?

  893. If that's the case,

  894. what are you going

  895. to do about it?

  896. It doesn't have

  897. to stay that way.

  898. Seek out godly women

  899. who can teach you,

  900. who can train you.

  901. Seek out the Word of God.

  902. Seek out the myriad

  903. of resources

  904. that are available now

  905. more than ever before

  906. to grow in theological astuteness.

  907. There's more available

  908. than ever before.

  909. There's no excuse

  910. for women not being

  911. theologically astute.

  912. There's so much resources.

  913. And if you're married,

  914. go to your husband.

  915. Say,

  916. Teach me.

  917. Teach me.

  918. You're my spiritual leader.

  919. I want to learn from you.

  920. I want to become

  921. a woman who knows.

  922. And you can,

  923. and there's so many other ways

  924. to learn how to do

  925. so many other things

  926. and be a Renaissance woman

  927. who knows how to do things.

  928. Ladies,

  929. are you a wise teacher

  930. and a trainer?

  931. You train other young ladies.

  932. Number five.

  933. A woman is a worker.

  934. A woman is a worker.

  935. A woman is called

  936. to be a hard worker.

  937. It's the fruit of her hands.

  938. Okay?

  939. 1 Timothy 2,

  940. 9-10

  941. says,

  942. Women should adorn themselves

  943. with what is proper

  944. for women

  945. who profess godliness

  946. with good works.

  947. There's multiple verses

  948. that talk about this.

  949. 1 Timothy 5,

  950. 9-10

  951. says,

  952. Let a widow be enrolled.

  953. Again,

  954. the role for widowhood.

  955. Who are the ones

  956. who are going to be supported

  957. by the church?

  958. Let a widow be enrolled,

  959. having a reputation

  960. for good works

  961. and has devoted herself

  962. to every good work.

  963. Godly women

  964. should be known

  965. for doing work,

  966. doing hard work,

  967. doing good work,

  968. doing good works.

  969. And Titus 2,

  970. 3-5

  971. says,

  972. Older women

  973. working at home.

  974. There should be

  975. a direction

  976. of that work

  977. that is aimed

  978. towards the home.

  979. The Proverbs 31 woman

  980. is the quintessential

  981. example of this.

  982. Right?

  983. It says,

  984. She seeks wool and flax

  985. and works

  986. with willing hands.

  987. She's like the ships

  988. of the merchant.

  989. She brings her food

  990. from afar.

  991. She rises

  992. while it is yet night

  993. and provides food

  994. for her household

  995. and portions

  996. for her maidens.

  997. So she's getting up

  998. even in the night

  999. to do things.

  1000. She's such a hard worker

  1001. that she's limiting

  1002. her sleep

  1003. for these things.

  1004. to provide food

  1005. for her household.

  1006. Verse 16,

  1007. She considers a field

  1008. and buys it.

1009. With the fruit of her hands

  1010. she plants a vineyard.

  1011. She's even doing business.

  1012. She's buying fields.

  1013. She's planting vineyards.

1014. This is a serious woman here.

  1015. She's a hard worker.

  1016. She dresses herself

  1017. with strength

1018. and makes her arms strong.

  1019. She perceives

  1020. that her merchandise

  1021. is profitable.

  1022. Her lamp

  1023. does not go out

  1024. at night.

1025. She's working day and night.

  1026. She's working hard.

  1027. She's selling things.

  1028. She's saying,

  1029. I have goods

  1030. that are profitable.

1031. I'm able to help my home

  1032. by selling the goods

  1033. that I'm producing.

  1034. She puts her hands

  1035. to the distaff

1036. and her hands hold the spindle.

  1037. She opens her hand

  1038. to the poor

  1039. and reaches out

1040. her hands to the needy.

  1041. So she's not even

1042. just taking care of her home.

1043. She's taking care of the poor.

1044. She's taking care of the needy.

  1045. She's producing so much

  1046. that she has extra

1047. to be able to help other people.

  1048. She's not just consumed

  1049. with herself.

  1050. She's not just consumed

  1051. with her own family.

  1052. She is so productive,

  1053. such a hard worker

  1054. that she is able

  1055. to bless other people.

  1056. She is not afraid

1057. of snow for her household,

  1058. for all her household

  1059. are clothed in scarlet.

1060. She has that beautiful confidence,

  1061. right?

  1062. She's not fearing

  1063. snow.

  1064. She makes bed coverings

  1065. for herself.

  1066. Her clothing

1067. is fine linen and purple.

  1068. Her husband

1069. is known in the gates

  1070. when he sits

  1071. among the elders

  1072. of the land.

  1073. Well, of course

  1074. the husband's known.

1075. Look at what she's doing.

  1076. This woman

  1077. is a significant,

  1078. substantial woman.

  1079. She's a hardworking woman.

  1080. Of course the man

1081. is known in the gates,

  1082. right?

  1083. Her husband is known

  1084. in the gates

  1085. when he sits

  1086. among the elders

  1087. of the land.

1088. And she makes linen garments

  1089. and sells them.

  1090. She delivers sashes

  1091. to the merchant.

  1092. She looks,

  1093. this is my favorite

1094. of the verses in here.

  1095. Verse 27

  1096. in Proverbs 31.

1097. This is such a great verse.

  1098. She looks well

  1099. to the ways

  1100. of her household

  1101. and does not eat

  1102. the bread of idleness.

  1103. What a verse, huh?

  1104. She looks well.

  1105. Ladies,

  1106. do you look well

  1107. to the ways

  1108. of your household?

  1109. What other people say,

  1110. what your husbands say,

  1111. what other ladies

1112. look to you and say,

  1113. I want to look

  1114. to the ways

  1115. of my house

1116. the way that woman does.

  1117. She looks well

  1118. to the ways

  1119. of her household

  1120. and she does not

  1121. eat the bread

  1122. of idleness.

  1123. She's not lazy.

  1124. She's not lazy.

  1125. Verse 31.

  1126. Give her

  1127. of the fruit

  1128. of her hands

  1129. and let her works

1130. praise are in the gates.

  1131. And they do.

  1132. They do.

1133. This is an esteemed woman.

  1134. This is a woman

1135. who is worthy of praise.

  1136. Okay?

  1137. She's not lazy.

  1138. She's busy with work.

  1139. She makes plans

  1140. and then she executes

  1141. those plans.

  1142. And her work

  1143. enhances her care

  1144. for her household.

  1145. It doesn't take away

  1146. or distract from it.

  1147. People like to ask

  1148. the question,

  1149. are you saying

  1150. that women can't work

  1151. outside of the home?

  1152. I'm not saying

  1153. that women can't work

  1154. outside of the home.

  1155. I'm saying a woman

  1156. is not limited

  1157. in any way

  1158. that she works.

  1159. Except in this,

  1160. that her work

  1161. needs to be directed

  1162. towards the home.

  1163. And if her work

  1164. ever distracts

  1165. from the home,

  1166. it's a work

  1167. that is unbecoming

  1168. of her.

  1169. That work

  1170. is supposed

  1171. to enhance

  1172. her home life.

  1173. She looks well

  1174. to the ways

  1175. of her home.

  1176. So sometimes

  1177. that takes her

  1178. outside of the home

  1179. for the home.

  1180. Okay?

  1181. Sometimes even

  1182. to help her husband

  1183. she's doing that.

  1184. But never to supplant

  1185. her home.

  1186. Never to replace

  1187. her home.

  1188. And never to distract

  1189. from her home.

  1190. That is not

  1191. godly femininity.

  1192. Zachary Garris

  1193. says,

  1194. Feminism is the

  1195. twisted idea

  1196. that a woman

  1197. is free

  1198. when serving

  1199. an employer

  1200. but is slave

  1201. when serving

  1202. her family.

  1203. And this has all

  1204. been to a woman's

  1205. detriment.

  1206. It's just not true.

  1207. You might say,

  1208. Well, I wasn't

  1209. parented this way.

  1210. I wasn't taught

  1211. how to work.

  1212. I don't know

  1213. how to work.

  1214. Then learn.

  1215. Learn.

  1216. Find a hardworking

  1217. woman and go

  1218. and help her.

  1219. Learn from her.

  1220. Work with her.

  1221. Ask her questions.

  1222. Be trained.

  1223. But don't make

  1224. excuses.

  1225. Don't make

  1226. excuses.

  1227. A woman,

  1228. a godly woman,

  1229. a hardworking woman,

  1230. she doesn't make

  1231. excuses.

  1232. Even if she's

  1233. not skilled

  1234. or she doesn't

  1235. say,

  1236. I'm not skilled

  1237. enough or I

  1238. have low capacity.

  1239. I wasn't brought

  1240. up that way.

  1241. I'm pregnant.

  1242. I have little kids.

  1243. Those aren't

  1244. excuses.

  1245. Those are challenges.

  1246. Those are obstacles.

  1247. Those are obstacles

  1248. that a strong woman

  1249. can come over.

  1250. She's not a

  1251. comer under.

  1252. She's an

  1253. overcomer.

  1254. She overcomes

  1255. not having skills.

  1256. She overcomes

  1257. low capacity,

  1258. not being brought

  1259. up that way.

  1260. Pregnancy,

  1261. little kids,

  1262. being tired,

  1263. or being single,

  1264. not being married,

  1265. not having certain

  1266. giftings,

  1267. or not having a

  1268. certain personality.

  1269. She overcomes

  1270. her hormones.

  1271. Her hormones are

  1272. never an excuse.

  1273. Are her hormones

  1274. a difficulty?

  1275. Yes.

  1276. And ladies,

  1277. if you would want

  1278. to argue with me

  1279. on this,

  1280. careful what game

  1281. you want to play.

  1282. Because then a man

  1283. can just say,

  1284. well,

  1285. my hormones,

  1286. I'm really,

  1287. have a propensity

  1288. to lust,

  1289. and I just can't

  1290. control it.

  1291. You can't use

  1292. an excuse for either.

  1293. A man doesn't

  1294. have any excuse

1295. to be given to lust

  1296. and come underneath

  1297. lust,

1298. and a woman has no

  1299. excuse to come under

  1300. her hormones either.

  1301. Neither of us,

  1302. men or women,

  1303. are underneath

  1304. our hormones.

  1305. God has given us

  1306. power to have

  1307. self-control,

1308. and a woman should be

  1309. adorned with

  1310. self-control.

  1311. She'll be adorned

  1312. with self-control

1313. as well in her hormones.

  1314. I mean,

  1315. I shouldn't compare

  1316. you there and say,

  1317. well,

  1318. I'm not like so-and-so.

  1319. Don't let the differences

  1320. between you and other

  1321. people make you

  1322. disobedient.

  1323. Okay?

  1324. That's not a license

  1325. to be disobedient.

  1326. Another good test

1327. is to say it out loud

  1328. to your great-grandmother

  1329. test.

  1330. Okay?

  1331. Say your excuse

  1332. out loud to your

  1333. real or figurative

  1334. great-grandmother

  1335. and see how much

  1336. sense it makes.

  1337. Okay?

  1338. Okay?

  1339. If you say that

  1340. and you think,

  1341. oh boy,

  1342. then maybe we need

  1343. to change some things.

  1344. And that's a good

  1345. perspective.

  1346. You might say,

  1347. well,

  1348. that's kind of

  1349. a funny thing.

  1350. But no,

  1351. that's a real thing

  1352. because we've forgotten

  1353. the ancient paths

  1354. and we've moved

  1355. the ancient boundaries.

  1356. And Jesus said

  1357. it wasn't that way

  1358. from the beginning

  1359. when he was rebuking

1360. the people in his day

  1361. and we're far beyond

  1362. that day.

1363. And so say it out loud

  1364. to your great-grandmother

1365. test is a good test

  1366. to say

  1367. because we've lost

  1368. some things.

  1369. And there's things

  1370. that have been lost

1371. that need to be recovered.

  1372. There's no better place

1373. for them to be recovered

  1374. than among godly women

  1375. in the church.

  1376. Ladies,

1377. are you a hard worker?

1378. Are you a hard worker?

  1379. Number six,

  1380. a woman is a domestic

  1381. executive.

  1382. Domestic executive.

  1383. A woman is called

1384. to be a domestic executive,

  1385. a household manager,

1386. the fruit of her home.

  1387. Genesis 1,

  1388. 26 to 28,

  1389. the dominion mandate,

  1390. right?

1391. Is that just for men?

  1392. No,

1393. it's not just for men.

  1394. God said,

  1395. let us make man

  1396. in our image

  1397. after our likeness

  1398. and let them,

  1399. them,

  1400. have dominion

1401. over the fish of the seed,

1402. over the birds of the heavens,

  1403. over the livestock,

1404. and over all the earth

1405. and over every creeping thing

1406. that creeps on the earth.

  1407. Eve had authority

  1408. over creeping things,

  1409. including creeping,

  1410. talking snakes

1411. who are trying to overthrow

  1412. God's government.

  1413. But she didn't use

  1414. that authority

1415. and neither did her husband.

  1416. So God created man

  1417. in his own image

1418. and the image of God

  1419. he created him.

  1420. Male and female

  1421. he created them

  1422. and God blessed them

1423. and God said to them,

  1424. be fruitful and multiply

  1425. and fill the earth

  1426. and subdue it

  1427. and have dominion

1428. over the fish of the sea

1429. and over the birds of the heavens

1430. and over every living thing

1431. that moves on the earth.

  1432. Both men and women

  1433. were given dominion.

  1434. Women,

  1435. are you fulfilling

  1436. your dominion mandate?

  1437. To subdue,

  1438. to rule,

  1439. over

1440. these things in the earth.

  1441. Women,

  1442. rule your household

  1443. and make it fruitful.

  1444. In other words,

  1445. be domestic.

  1446. Be domestic.

  1447. Be unapologetically domestic.

  1448. One of the reasons

1449. that a woman is domestic

  1450. is that a woman

  1451. is a home.

  1452. She was created

  1453. to house babies

  1454. in her body.

  1455. That's why the whole

  1456. my body,

  1457. my choice

  1458. is a goofy statement.

  1459. It's not your body.

  1460. It's someone else's body

  1461. living inside your home.

  1462. And the safest place

  1463. for a baby

  1464. should be the womb

  1465. of a mother.

  1466. And there's a certain

  1467. motherly,

  1468. hospitable aspect

  1469. that says,

  1470. hey,

1471. I will make this place

  1472. a safe place

  1473. for my child.

  1474. A woman,

  1475. not only is she

  1476. supposed to be domestic

1477. and driven towards her home

1478. and to manage her home,

  1479. she is a home.

  1480. She's a home for babies.

  1481. Psalm 139.13

  1482. says,

  1483. you formed

  1484. my inward parts.

  1485. You knitted me together

  1486. in my mother's womb.

  1487. Titus 2.3-5

  1488. says,

  1489. older women

  1490. train the young women

  1491. to love their husbands

  1492. and children,

  1493. to be self-controlled,

  1494. pure,

  1495. working at home.

  1496. Working at home.

  1497. That's what it says.

  1498. 1 Timothy 5.11-14

  1499. Younger widows

  1500. learn to be idlers,

  1501. going about

  1502. from house to house

  1503. and not only idlers

  1504. but also gossips

  1505. and busybodies

1506. saying what they should not.

1507. So one of the problems

  1508. with these younger widows

  1509. is that instead of

  1510. managing their own household,

  1511. they're going from

  1512. house to house.

  1513. They're not bound

  1514. to their house

1515. in a way that is godly

  1516. and right.

  1517. They're going from

  1518. house to house

  1519. and it's getting them

  1520. in trouble.

1521. So what is the result?

  1522. What is the antidote?

  1523. What is the solution

1524. to this in verse 14

  1525. in 1 Timothy 5?

  1526. He says,

1527. I would have younger widows

  1528. marry,

  1529. bear children

  1530. and manage their households.

  1531. They're not going about

  1532. from house to house.

  1533. They're managing

  1534. their own households

1535. and they give the adversary

  1536. no occasion for slander.

  1537. It was said of

  1538. the adulterous woman

  1539. in Proverbs 7.11.

  1540. This is interesting.

  1541. The adulterous woman says

1542. her feet do not stay at home.

1543. Her feet do not stay at home.

  1544. That's what it said

  1545. of the adulterous woman.

  1546. Okay?

  1547. There's a,

  1548. again,

  1549. a saving you

  1550. from deception

  1551. and sin

  1552. when a woman

  1553. is unapologetically domestic.

  1554. Galatians 4.15 says,

  1555. Give my greetings

  1556. to Nympha

  1557. and the church

  1558. and her house.

  1559. Nympha used her house

1560. for the church to meet.

  1561. What a great use

  1562. of a home.

  1563. Proverbs 31.15.

1564. The Proverbs 31 woman again

  1565. says,

1566. She rises while it is yet night

1567. and provides food for her household

1568. and portions for her maiden.

  1569. It says,

1570. She's not afraid of snow

  1571. for her household.

  1572. For all her household

  1573. are clothed in scarlet.

  1574. And then Proverbs 31.27,

  1575. what we read before,

1576. She looks well to the ways

  1577. of her household.

  1578. Okay?

  1579. She's a domestic executive.

  1580. Proverbs 9.1 says,

1581. Wisdom has built her house.

1582. She has hewn her seven pillars.

1583. How does a woman build her house?

1584. How does she make her home?

1585. She does it with wisdom.

  1586. She's a wise teacher

1587. who builds her house with wisdom.

  1588. It takes,

  1589. there's a feminine wisdom

  1590. that is required

1591. and that is given to a woman

  1592. to build a house

  1593. in a unique way

  1594. that a man doesn't have.

  1595. A man is called

  1596. to build his home

  1597. in a different way.

  1598. There's a feminine aspect

  1599. of home making,

  1600. right?

  1601. That is wise

  1602. and comes from God.

1603. Wisdom has built her house.

1604. It says in Proverbs 14.1,

  1605. The wisest of women

  1606. builds her house,

1607. but folly with her own hands

  1608. tears it down.

  1609. Okay?

1610. So the wisest of women

  1611. builds her house.

1612. The wisdom of a woman

  1613. should be driven

  1614. to build a home,

  1615. to make a home.

  1616. Proverbs 24.3 says,

1617. By wisdom a house is built

  1618. and by understanding

  1619. it is established.

1620. In the book of Ruth,

  1621. verse 4.11,

  1622. it says,

  1623. All the people

1624. who were at the gate

  1625. and the elders said,

  1626. We are witnesses.

1627. May the Lord make the woman

1628. who is coming into your house

  1629. like Rachel and Leah

  1630. who together

  1631. built up the house

  1632. of Israel.

  1633. It was known

1634. of these women of old,

  1635. these esteemed women,

  1636. that the blessing

  1637. that was given

  1638. to Ruth

1639. was that you would be

1640. like the women of old.

1641. And what did the women

  1642. of old do

1643. and what are we blessing

1644. you to do as well?

  1645. We're blessing you

  1646. to be one

1647. who builds up her house.

1648. Who builds up her house.

  1649. Okay?

  1650. A woman is given a house

  1651. and she glorifies it.

  1652. She makes a house a home.

  1653. She's a homemaker.

  1654. Let's make homemaking

  1655. great again.

  1656. Right?

  1657. It's like,

  1658. I've heard women

  1659. who are sheepish

  1660. when they say

  1661. that they're a homemaker

1662. or they'll put the word

1663. just in front of it.

  1664. Don't do that.

  1665. Say I'm just a homemaker.

  1666. Do you understand

  1667. the importance

  1668. of being a homemaker?

  1669. This is a godly,

  1670. noble,

  1671. dignified occupation.

  1672. Okay?

  1673. We should make

  1674. this great again

1675. because it is a great thing.

  1676. It's an important thing.

  1677. It's a godly thing.

  1678. It's a feminine thing.

  1679. A woman is given a house

  1680. and she glorifies it.

  1681. She makes a house a home.

  1682. A woman takes a disorderly home

1683. and brings it into order.

  1684. She's a household executive.

1685. A woman rules her household.

  1686. She's decisive.

  1687. She's an authoritative

  1688. home manager.

  1689. Not taking authority

  1690. over men

  1691. but taking decisive authority

  1692. over her household,

  1693. both her home

  1694. and her children

  1695. if she has them.

  1696. If she's single,

  1697. she helps other women

  1698. rule their households,

  1699. not taking authority

  1700. over children

  1701. where authority

  1702. has not been given.

  1703. If she's single

1704. and lives with other women,

  1705. she rules and subdues

  1706. her household

  1707. with those women.

  1708. If she's single

1709. and owns her own house,

1710. she makes it a home.

1711. She rules and subdues it.

  1712. If she's married,

  1713. she takes the house

  1714. her husband has rented

  1715. or bought

1716. and makes it a home.

  1717. She rules her household.

  1718. Women should be

  1719. unapologetically domestic

  1720. in their focus

  1721. and their aim.

  1722. unapologetically.

  1723. C.S. Lewis said,

  1724. the homemaker

  1725. has the ultimate career.

  1726. All their careers

1727. exist for one purpose only

1728. and that is to support

  1729. the ultimate career.

  1730. You might say,

1731. well, I have bad parenting.

  1732. I came from a broken family.

  1733. I don't know how

1734. to be a household executive.

  1735. I don't know how

  1736. to manage a house.

  1737. I don't know how

  1738. to rule a house.

  1739. Have someone teach you.

  1740. Find someone you know

  1741. who does manage

  1742. your household well.

1743. Ask how you can serve her.

  1744. Come and help her

  1745. in her household.

1746. See how she does things.

  1747. See how she manages.

  1748. See the tricks

1749. and the traits of speed.

  1750. The things that you

  1751. wouldn't notice maybe.

1752. Why did you do that?

1753. Why don't you do this?

1754. What did you do that for?

  1755. Ask good questions.

  1756. Learn.

  1757. Grow.

  1758. Ladies,

  1759. are you a domestic

  1760. executive?

1761. You don't have to wait

  1762. until you're older too

  1763. if you're younger.

1764. Start at a young age.

  1765. And parents,

  1766. start your young girls,

  1767. daughters,

  1768. at a young age.

  1769. Don't wait.

  1770. Teach them how to

  1771. manage a home

  1772. so when they get

  1773. to be older

  1774. that they could

  1775. totally run a home.

1776. That is a godly gift

  1777. that you can give

  1778. to your daughters.

  1779. Number seven,

  1780. a woman is a

  1781. submitted follower.

  1782. A woman is called

  1783. to be a respectful

  1784. submitted follower,

1785. the fruit of her submission.

  1786. Genesis 3.13

  1787. says,

  1788. The Lord God said

  1789. to the woman,

  1790. What is this

  1791. that you have done?

  1792. The woman said,

  1793. And the woman said,

  1794. The serpent deceived me

  1795. and I ate.

  1796. 2 Corinthians 11.3

  1797. says,

  1798. The serpent deceived Eve

  1799. by his cunning.

  1800. 1 Timothy 2.11-15

  1801. says,

1802. Let a woman learn quietly

  1803. with all submissiveness.

  1804. Then it says,

  1805. I do not permit a woman

1806. to teach or to exercise

  1807. authority over a man.

  1808. Rather,

1809. she is to remain quiet.

  1810. You might say,

  1811. Well, why?

  1812. Well, it was because

  1813. of in Ephesus

  1814. there was this goddess

  1815. there,

  1816. or it was because

  1817. of the culture there.

  1818. It's different

  1819. than the culture now.

  1820. But listen,

1821. you don't have to insert

1822. a reason into the text

  1823. when a reason

1824. is already in the text.

  1825. We don't need to

  1826. pontificate

  1827. or come up

  1828. with these reasons

  1829. when there's a clear reason

  1830. that's already given.

  1831. He says,

  1832. I do not permit

  1833. to let a woman

  1834. learn quietly

  1835. with all submissiveness.

  1836. I do not permit a woman

1837. to teach or to exercise

  1838. authority over a man.

  1839. Rather,

1840. she is to remain quiet.

1841. And then it gives the reason.

  1842. This is really important.

1843. If you take this verse

  1844. out of context

  1845. and say it's cultural,

  1846. well,

  1847. you're misusing the scriptures.

  1848. You've got to look

  1849. at what it says.

  1850. For Adam was formed

  1851. first,

  1852. then Eve.

1853. And Adam was not deceived,

  1854. but the woman

  1855. was deceived

  1856. and became a transgression.

1857. Yet she will be saved

  1858. through childbearing

  1859. that they continue

  1860. in faith and love

  1861. and holiness

  1862. with self-control.

  1863. So he makes

  1864. this distinction

  1865. between the role

  1866. of a man and a woman

  1867. based on creation,

  1868. based on created order,

  1869. who was created first,

  1870. based on what happened

  1871. in the garden.

  1872. That's the basis.

1873. It has nothing to do

1874. with what was going on

  1875. in Ephesus.

1876. It has nothing to do

  1877. with some imagined

  1878. conjecture that you're

  1879. putting into the text.

  1880. It's not there.

  1881. Just take the text

  1882. for what it says.

1883. It gives us the reason.

  1884. A woman was created

  1885. to follow.

  1886. And in the absence

  1887. of male leadership,

1888. she's still going to follow

  1889. because that's what

  1890. she was created for.

  1891. So she's susceptible

1892. to following the wrong entity.

  1893. And in this case,

  1894. she ended up following

  1895. the devil.

  1896. She was supposed

  1897. to be leading,

  1898. but because the man

  1899. abdicated his role,

  1900. she still kept following.

  1901. But instead of following

  1902. her husband,

  1903. she followed the devil

  1904. into this coup

  1905. that was happening

  1906. in the garden.

  1907. All right?

1908. This is why a woman

1909. should look to the leadership

  1910. of her husband

  1911. if she's married.

  1912. And if she's single,

1913. she should be in submission

  1914. to other men,

  1915. not the same way

  1916. as a husband.

  1917. That's weird.

  1918. Okay?

1919. But looking to have men

  1920. speaking into her life.

  1921. All right?

1922. And a woman should be

  1923. doing the things

  1924. that are the role

  1925. of a woman

1926. so as to save her

  1927. from further deception

1928. where she would end up

  1929. following the wrong entity,

  1930. in this case,

  1931. the devil.

  1932. One of the results

  1933. of the curse

  1934. in Genesis 3.16

  1935. said to the woman,

  1936. Your desire shall be

  1937. for your husband

1938. and he shall rule over you.

  1939. That word desire

  1940. is the same one

1941. that's in the next chapter

  1942. in Genesis 4.7

1943. when it said to Cain,

  1944. Hey, sin is crouching

  1945. at your door

  1946. and its desire

  1947. is to have you.

  1948. Okay?

  1949. It's the same word.

  1950. So essentially,

1951. this curse that was on there

  1952. is that there's this

1953. desire inside of a woman

  1954. to control her husband,

  1955. to take leadership,

  1956. to be afraid

  1957. that she is not

  1958. being fought for,

  1959. cared for,

  1960. and loved

1961. and so she has to

  1962. take matters

  1963. into her own hands

  1964. instead of putting

  1965. her hope in God

  1966. like the holy woman

  1967. of the past did.

  1968. That's the propensity.

1969. You have to watch out

  1970. for that.

  1971. 1 Corinthians 14.33-35

  1972. says this,

  1973. In all the churches

  1974. of the saints,

  1975. women should keep

  1976. silent in the churches

  1977. for they are not

  1978. permitted to speak

1979. but should be in submission

  1980. as the law says.

  1981. If there is anything

  1982. they desire to learn

  1983. that the master

1984. or husband is at home

  1985. but it's shameful

  1986. for a woman

  1987. to speak in church.

1988. This is in the context

  1989. of weighing prophecies.

  1990. And they were talking

  1991. about how they should

  1992. weigh the prophecies

1993. and say in these cases,

  1994. I think what it's pointing to

  1995. is let the men

  1996. decide these things

  1997. and the women

  1998. should be quiet

  1999. in these particular areas.

  2000. Women can prophesy

  2001. and should prophesy.

  2002. They are prophesying.

  2003. Right?

  2004. But in this case

  2005. of judging them,

  2006. they should be silent

  2007. and they should be

  2008. in submission.

  2009. Ephesians 5 says,

  2010. Wives,

2011. submit to your own husbands

  2012. as to the Lord.

  2013. As to the Lord.

  2014. For the husband

2015. is the head of the wife

  2016. even as Christ

2017. is the head of the church,

  2018. his body

  2019. and is himself

  2020. its Savior.

  2021. Now as the church

  2022. submits to Christ,

  2023. also wives should submit

  2024. in everything

  2025. to their husbands.

  2026. Let the wife see

  2027. that she respects

  2028. her husband.

  2029. She's supposed to

  2030. respect her husband.

  2031. She's supposed to

  2032. submit to her husband.

  2033. Colossians 3 says,

  2034. Wives,

  2035. submit to your husbands

2036. as it's fitting in the Lord.

  2037. 1 Peter 3 says,

  2038. Wives,

  2039. be subject

  2040. to your own husbands

  2041. so that even if

2042. some do not obey the word,

  2043. they may be won

  2044. without a word

  2045. by the conduct

  2046. of their wives

  2047. when they see

  2048. your respectful

  2049. and pure conduct.

2050. This is how the holy women

  2051. who hoped in God

  2052. used to adorn themselves

  2053. by submitting

  2054. to their own husbands.

2055. It says in verse 5,

  2056. Sarah obeyed Abraham

  2057. calling the Lord

2058. and you are our children

  2059. if you do good

2060. and do not fear anything

  2061. that is frightening.

2062. A lot of women will say,

  2063. you say,

  2064. do you expect

2065. or think that you should

  2066. have unconditional love,

  2067. especially from a spouse?

2068. And most women would say,

  2069. yes, absolutely.

  2070. You flip that over

  2071. and say,

2072. do you believe you should

  2073. give unconditional respect

  2074. to your husband?

  2075. Oh no.

  2076. Only if he's respectable.

  2077. It's not,

2078. you can't handle it both ways.

  2079. Okay?

  2080. A woman is supposed

  2081. to give unconditional

  2082. respect to her husband

2083. and a man should give

  2084. unconditional love

  2085. to the wife.

  2086. Again,

  2087. this is Ephesians 5.

  2088. To Romans 21,

  2089. verse 19,

  2090. it's better to live

  2091. in a desert land

  2092. than with a quarrelsome

  2093. and fretful woman.

  2094. Okay?

2095. This is an unsubmissive woman.

  2096. This is a woman

  2097. who's afraid.

2098. Notice he puts the two together,

  2099. quarrelsome and fretful.

  2100. Fretfulness and fear

  2101. leads to quarrelsomeness.

  2102. Fretfulness and a lack

  2103. of trust or hope

  2104. in the Lord

  2105. leads to arguing

  2106. and trying to get

  2107. your own way.

  2108. A woman who fights

  2109. is fighting for herself.

  2110. That's a blinking red

  2111. dash light to say,

  2112. hey,

  2113. this woman

2114. is not feeling fought for.

2115. You could fight with her,

2116. but that's not the problem.

  2117. Fight for her,

  2118. not with her.

  2119. Okay?

  2120. Titus 2, verse 5,

    Titus 2:5

  2121. talks about being submissive

  2122. to their own husbands

2123. that the word of God

  2124. may not be reviled.

  2125. The late John MacArthur

  2126. said,

2127. no matter what their station

  2128. in life,

  2129. Christian men and women

  2130. who are not what

  2131. they ought to be

  2132. will give people reason

  2133. to blaspheme God's word.

2134. The world doesn't judge us

  2135. by our theology,

  2136. it judges us

  2137. by our behavior.

  2138. The validity of Scripture

  2139. in the world's view

  2140. is determined

2141. by how it affects us.

  2142. If unbelievers see

  2143. that our lives

  2144. are truly transformed,

  2145. separate and distinct

  2146. from the world,

  2147. they might conclude

  2148. that Scripture

  2149. is true,

  2150. powerful,

  2151. and life-changing.

  2152. 1 Corinthians 11, 3 says,

2153. I want you to understand

  2154. that the head

2155. of every man is Christ,

2156. the head of a wife

  2157. is her husband,

2158. and the head of Christ

  2159. is God.

  2160. And wives should avoid

  2161. both ditches.

  2162. The ditch of being

  2163. unsubmissive,

  2164. but also the ditch

  2165. of saying,

  2166. I can't do anything

  2167. unless my husband says.

2168. Like, I have no volition

2169. or agency on my own.

  2170. I have to run

  2171. every single thing

  2172. through my husband.

  2173. That's just as ridiculous

  2174. as being unsubmissive.

2175. And a husband should be able

2176. to believe in the wife

  2177. enough to be able

2178. to give her her own agency

2179. and not have to run

  2180. every single thing

  2181. through him.

  2182. And for single women

  2183. as well,

  2184. Matthew 27,

2185. there are also many women

  2186. that are looking

  2187. from a distance

  2188. who had followed Jesus

  2189. from Galilee

  2190. and ministering to him.

  2191. Mark 15 says

2192. when he was in Galilee,

  2193. there's women,

  2194. Mary Magdalene

2195. married the mother of James,

  2196. they followed him

  2197. and ministered to him.

  2198. Okay, so there's

  2199. a submission

  2200. that is required

2201. not just of married women,

  2202. but all women.

  2203. A woman is strong,

  2204. but she's not strong

2205. to the point of independence.

  2206. Feminine strength

  2207. does not avoid submission.

  2208. Ladies,

2209. are you a submitted follower?

  2210. In conclusion,

  2211. saying that a woman

2212. can do whatever a man

  2213. can do is degrading

  2214. a woman because

  2215. it sets manhood

2216. as the goal for women,

2217. which is a gross distortion.

  2218. It's a gross distortion,

  2219. and we will not

  2220. give in to that.

2221. We believe men and women

  2222. are created differently

  2223. by God,

2224. and they have different roles.

  2225. God created women

  2226. for distinct purpose

  2227. and roles,

  2228. and ladies,

  2229. you should embrace

  2230. the distinctly feminine.

  2231. Amen?

  2232. Amen.

  2233. Amen.
