Shalom, precious one. You are warmly welcome to today's Morning
-
Glory devotion. I am delighted to be coming your way
-
again with another inspired devotional written by Sari Ma and
-
Rabos Jabing from Harvest Chapel International, Denyami, Kumasi. Let us
-
begin by sharing a word of prayer. Dear Father, we
-
bless you for the gift of life and the priceless
-
opportunity to gather in your presence. Let your words minister
-
to our hearts and renew our minds. Lord, help us
-
to put to practice what we learn from your word today.
-
In Jesus' mighty name, Amen. Let us kindly take our
-
confession for today from Joshua chapter 1 verse 8. Joshua
-
1 verse 8 This book of the law shall not
-
depart from my mouth, but I shall meditate in it
-
day and night, that I may observe to do according
-
to all that is written in it. For then I
-
will make my way prosperous, And then I will have
-
good success. Amen. Today's message, written by Sarima and Rables Jabing,
-
is titled A City Whose Builder Is God, Part 2,
-
First Steps A City Whose Builder Is God, Part 2,
-
First Steps Today's scripture reading will be taken from Hebrews 11, 8-10.
-
Hebrews 11, verse 8-10. I'll be reading from the NIV.
-
By faith, Abraham, when called to go to a place
-
he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went,
-
even though he did not know where he was going.
-
By faith, he made his home in the promised land,
-
like a stranger in a foreign country. He lived in tents,
-
as did Isaac and Jacob, who were heirs with him
-
of that same promise. For he was looking forward to
-
the city with foundations whose architect and builder is God.
-
The Lord add his blessings to the reading and hearing
-
of this word. Thanks be to God. Amen. A city
-
whose builder is God. Part 2. First Steps. One of
-
the anxieties all men have in common is whether their
-
life will matter at the end of it all. And
-
so our society is ever so concerned about living well.
-
If there ever was a man who truly lived well,
-
it must be Abraham. 4,000 years after his death, he
-
still stands a towering figure in both ethnic and religious history.
-
People from many nations and religions claim kinship with him.
-
His legacy is truly remarkable. It is quite interesting how
-
such a remarkable life started. Abraham's journey starts on a
-
note that is simultaneously certain and uncertain. He had a
-
definite call from God and a real promise of establishment.
-
He however did not know where exactly that would take
-
him or even when he would get there. Imagine the
-
anxiety and emotional distress this situation could cause. Abraham had
-
a family to whom he was accountable and he had
-
dependents who counted on him for their well-being. He may
-
have imagined how living the comforts of communal living in
-
earth would feel like or how he would survive the
-
unknown terrain of the deserts without the security of close family.
-
This is where many men get stuck, paralyzed by the
-
fear of the unknown. We all are a little familiar
-
with Abraham's dilemma. The sense of God's call on your
-
life may be clear enough, and you've even seen glimpses
-
of the destination, but you don't know when you'll get there,
-
or even exactly how to get there. All you have
-
may be a prompting to stay, a nudge to leave,
-
an instruction to start or a staring in your heart
-
to take up a new challenge. Whether it is in ministry, business,
-
family life or a career, recognize that you have about
-
as much detail as Abraham had to go on. And
-
the risks are similar. So you can take a cue
-
from him. The Bible says that when Abraham was called
-
out of his home, against the backdrop of many uncertainties,
-
he obeyed. He mustered all the faith he could and
-
took the first step. Obedience to the call. This, beloved,
-
is the first step in the way of faith. In
-
God's dealing with men, clarity rarely precedes obedience. The ways
-
of God usually unfold in bits, with many moments where
-
obedience is required even in the face of uncertainty. And
-
so while our anxieties stare us in the face, let
-
us spare ourselves and to take the first steps and
-
promptly do that which the Lord has put in our
-
hearts to do. This is the way of faith, and
-
this is the way of the Fathers. Amen. Our memory
-
verse will be taken from Hebrews 11, 8. Hebrews 11,
-
verse 8. I'll be reading from the NIV. By faith, Abraham...
-
when called to go to a place he would later
-
receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he
-
did not know where he was going. Amen. Let us
-
kindly share a word of prayer. Father, we thank you
-
for your word and reminder of your faithfulness. Help us
-
to be completely and promptly obedient to you in all things.
-
To cast off any forms of fear that hinder obedience
-
to your word and by so doing please you. Amen.
-
