I've got a word I believe is for your life today.
-
I want you to take in some notes.
-
I think it's going to be something that's going to help you.
-
We're going to get right into God's word.
-
I think it's going to challenge you.
-
We're going to be in the book of Genesis, chapter 37.
Genesis 37 chapter mention
-
Before I get there, I'll give you kind of the backstory of this idea of the unfair advantage.
-
It was about three years ago, I was in a season of prayer and fasting.
-
And as I'm praying, um, I had this moment where I was praying for one of our staff members at the church, and she was a girl who kind of grew up in my youth group.
-
She had been through so much trauma in her life.
-
And as I was praying over her, I kept saying the phrase unfair.
-
And if you ever had those moments where you just have those moments in God's presence where you're having this thing, and I'm praying, I'm saying, it's unfair what you went through.
-
It's unfair how your parents divorced at that early age.
-
It's unfair about how you were abused and neglected and overlooked.
-
It's unfair.
-
And as I'm speaking over her, I feel the Holy Spirit speak to me as clear as I'm speaking to you right now.
-
And he said this phrase, Aaron, it's unfair, but it's for her advantage.
-
And it just sank in such in a real way that I actually paused from even praying for her, and I took out my phone and I wrote down that phrase, the unfair advantage.
-
That with God, He's that good that He's able to take all the unfair things that you've gone through in life and transform them and leverage them and use them for the advantage that he has for your life.
-
Like that's how good our God is.
-
So I was starting to research this idea of the unfair advantage, and I I was thinking about how if you want to play in the NBA, you have a one in a million shot of making it.
-
One in a million shot right now.
-
So that is a good reason for you not to skip church for your kids to go to sports because your kids ain't making it, by the way.
-
Just want you to know that.
-
So one in a million shot, but but if you're over seven foot tall, it moves from one in a million to one in six.
-
One in six, like over seven foot tall is unfair.
-
Like you have to duck when you go underneath the door, you have to, you can't sit on an airplane comfortably.
-
There's like no bed that's ever made for someone that's over seven foot tall.
-
But if you leverage it properly, you can make millions of dollars in the MBA.
-
It's unfair, but it can be used for your advantage.
-
And it's the same with life that there's unfair things that happen to all of us.
-
As Christians, we are not exempt from the pain that this world brings, but we are exempt from pain without purpose behind it.
-
That with our God, we can take that pain and we can leverage it for great purpose and to see God use it for his glory.
-
And that's what I'm gonna show you how to do it today.
-
I'm gonna show it to you through the life of Joseph.
-
Genesis chapter 37.
Genesis 37 chapter mention
-
We're gonna start in verse five, and I want you to see it right here on the screen.
-
It says, Now Joseph had a dream.
-
Joseph had a dream.
-
Let me just pause and say it this way: God has a dream for your life.
-
There's something that He's put on the inside of you that you can't shake.
-
Whether it's a business for you to start, whether it's some ministry for you to do, whether it's some family for you to raise or some legacy for you to leave, there's a dream that's on the inside of you that's from God Himself.
-
And you're never gonna be satisfied until you walk into it.
-
I want you to know you're not too old and you're not too young to walk into the dream that God has for your life.
-
He's got something for you, which by the way, one of the great indicators of the outpouring of the Holy Spirit that we see in Acts chapter two is we normally focus on the gifts of the Spirit and the power of the Holy Spirit, which all that is great.
-
But the indicator that was mentioned in Acts chapter two was that when the Holy Spirit was poured out, young men and old men, young women and old women would dream dreams again.
-
And I'm telling you, be careful, Access, because in this environment, with worship like you just experienced, there's moments in God's presence where he's gonna drop dreams again in your heart that your best days are still in front of you.
-
Can we give them some praise today, church?
-
So he's got a dream, and look what happens.
-
And when he told it to his brothers, look at that.
-
They loved him and championed him and said, Joseph, how do we help this dream come out?
-
It's not what happened.
-
Isn't it interesting?
-
So many times the people that you should think that should celebrate you, should champion you, are the ones that don't.
-
And in this story, he goes from a dream to a nightmare.
-
His brothers hated him all the more.
-
Let's pick up in verse 17.
-
Says it like this So Joseph went after his brothers and found them near Dothan.
-
Saw them in a distance, and before he reached them, they plotted to kill him.
-
Here comes that dreamer.
-
They said to each other, Come now, let's kill him and throw him into one of those sisters.
-
Oh, let me just say it this way.
-
If you think your family dynamics are bad, at least they're not trying to kill you.
-
Like Joseph's got a tough scenario here.
-
And they'll say that a ferocious animal devoured him.
-
We'll see what comes of his dreams.
-
And the next verse goes on.
-
It says, So Joseph came into his brothers.
-
They stripped him of his robe, the ornate robe he was wearing, and they took him and threw him in a cistern, and the cistern was empty.
-
Say empty.
-
Say empty.
-
Come on, help me out.
-
Today say empty.
-
Empty.
-
It was empty, and there's no water in it.
-
How many know that unfair seasons are very empty?
-
When you go through that divorce, when you walk through that betrayal, when you've lost your job, it's an empty season.
-
But just because it's empty doesn't mean there's not purpose behind it.
-
Doesn't mean there's not reason behind it.
-
And the story goes on to say so so when the Midianite merchants came by, his brothers pulled Joseph out of the cistern and sold him for 20 shekels of silver to the Ishmaelites who took him to Egypt.
-
We have a story here of a guy who has got a dream from God, but his dream turns into a nightmare real fast.
-
Why is that?
-
Because many times things things are beautiful when you think about it, but you get kind of behind the scenes, and it's not what you expected.
-
You ever have that moment that you thought it would be one way?
-
You're like, by this time in life, I'm gonna be, I'm gonna, I'm gonna be married, I'm gonna have this many kids, I'm I'm gonna have my life look like this.
-
And you're looking at your life right now, going, This is not what I pictured, it's not what I thought it would look like.
-
It's funny when I do like pre-marriage counseling, I'll meet with couples and I'll be like, so what do y'all fight about?
-
They're like, nothing.
-
Nothing, just it's perfect.
-
Well, what bothers you about each other?
-
Nothing.
-
We'd never get bothered with each other.
-
I'm like, I've been with y'all for three minutes.
-
I'm already bothered with you guys.
-
Like it's funny, kids.
-
You get this, this, this allure, this desire, this, oh man, it's always gonna be perfect.
-
It's funny to run into a couple six months after marriage, right?
-
Like, like the honeymoon season has worn off, and they're looking at each other, they come in your office, they're all hairs, all crazy, and I'm like, how's it going?
-
Oh, it's tough.
-
I didn't realize she has bad breath.
-
He he doesn't, you know, he doesn't wash, he doesn't take showers, like, this is not what I pictured.
-
We always had those moments, like the reality's tough.
-
I remember when Katie and I we started the church in Tampa, we had this big dream.
-
It looked like access.
-
I remember thinking, like, this is what I pictured this room, I pictured these kind of screens, like this is what it's gonna look like.
-
We ended up showing up, and the only building we could get was a rundown, dirty dollar theater.
-
Like it was smelly, smelled like burnt popcorn.
-
It was small, it was gross.
-
It was voted, true story, you can Google it, the most haunted place in Florida.
-
That's where we're starting the church.
-
I remember, you know, as pastors, we have to we have to spin it any way we can.
-
So I remember telling our team, I'm like, it's haunted by a ghost.
-
We're gonna bring in the Holy Ghost.
-
Come on, somebody, we're gonna bring it in.
-
They weren't buying it, it was gross, it was gross.
-
I remember one time we're a few weeks into the services, and and we had just started the church, and I grew up in revival culture where you experienced the power of the Holy Spirit.
-
You hear these stories all throughout history where God shows up at a service and the conviction is so strong, and that's what we were praying for.
-
And I'm preaching this message.
-
There's only a few hundred people in the room, and and in the back, there's a commotion that starts happening.
-
And I start to think to myself, this is the moment.
-
The Spirit of God is here.
-
They're gonna start jumping over the seats to repent right here at the altar.
-
Well, the commotion gets louder and louder, and I realize as the lady in the back stands to her feet and starts to scream that it's not the presence of God, it's a mouse that fell from the ceiling right in the back of the auditorium.
-
You want to know what you do as a pastor when a mouse shows up?
-
You dismiss the service, like there's nothing else you can do.
-
I remember telling Katie, this is not what I pictured.
-
It's not what I pictured.
-
Some of y'all are like that in life right now.
-
Reminds me of Willie's chocolate experience.
-
You might not know anything about this.
-
This went viral the last couple months on social media.
-
In Glasgow, Scotland, they created this advertisements for this experience they're gonna do, where they're gonna show up, and there's all this candy forest you can experience.
-
And a chocolate river, and you can meet the umpalumpas.
-
People paid 50 bucks a pop to show up to this thing.
-
Well, the reality was a little bit different when they showed up.
-
It looked like this right here.
-
That was the room they walked into.
-
And then their photo experience that they did was this little picture right here.
-
And the umpalumpa was this girl right here.
-
This is the umpalumpa experience.
-
Some of y'all that describes your life right there, doesn't it?
-
It's like I pictured it this way, and what I'm experiencing right now is unfair.
-
And that's Joseph's story.
-
He lives in unfair after unfair after unfair.
-
He he's betrayed by his brothers, he's sold off into slavery, he's wrongfully accused, he's thrown into prison, he's forgotten in prison, unfair, and some of you would describe your life in the same way.
-
But let me do something that no preacher should ever do, let me do something no storyteller should ever do, no movie should ever do.
-
I'm gonna give you the end of the story.
-
The end of the story, after 13 years of pain, at the end of the story, Joseph is put in second in command over all of Egypt.
-
He rises to power, he's living the dream, and when confronted with the brothers who betrayed him, he says this phrase, and it's Genesis chapter 50, verse 20.
-
And if you don't take anything away, this should be a life verse for you to live by today.
-
He said it this way You intended to harm me.
-
Now I don't know what that is in your life.
-
Maybe it's some family members, maybe it's some some ex, maybe it's it's the it's the job you just got out of, maybe it's that diagnosis you just got from the doctor.
-
You intended to harm me, but God, I'm just thankful that there's always a but God that whenever things look tough, but God intended it for the good to accomplish what is now being done.
-
The saving of many lives.
-
Can we just thank our God that He is able to turn those things around?
-
So, how do we see this happen?
-
How do we respond to the unfair scenarios in life to where we can see them leverage for God's glory and for his purposes?
-
Let me give you three things today.
-
I think they'll help you.
-
And if you're a note taker, I want you to write them down.
-
If you're not a note taker, write it down.
-
They're gonna help you.
-
You're like, well, I'm not in unfair season, then buckle up.
-
You'll walk into one soon.
-
Because we all do.
-
Here's the first one When life is unfair, it is to my advantage to recognize God's presence.
-
To recognize God's presence.
-
We see this in the story of Joseph, that as Joseph's life is falling apart, it looks like it's chaotic, that God was in the midst of all of it.
-
I found this phrase all throughout his story.
-
Let me show it to you in chapter 39.
-
It says like this.
-
Now Joseph had been taken down to Egypt, so he's sold off into slavery.
-
He's taken into Egypt, and Potiphar, an Egyptian, who was one of Pharaoh's officials, the captain of the guard, bought him from the Ishmaelites who had taken him there.
-
And here's the phrase.
-
If you underline in your Bible, I would underline this phrase right here.
-
Because in the darkest season of Joseph's life, look what it says.
-
The Lord was with Joseph.
-
So that he prospered and he lived in the house of the Egyptian master.
-
The Lord was with him.
-
Let me bring some encouragement to your life today.
-
The Lord is with you.
-
You might not feel his presence, but God is with you in the midst of your pain, in the midst of your heartache, in the midst of your loneliness.
-
People walk out on us, but God's never walked out on you.
-
People betray us, but God's never betrayed us.
-
People will hurt us, but our God will never hurt us.
-
When people are distant, you can take confidence today to know that God is near us and he is for us.
-
And if he is with us, then it doesn't matter what is coming against us, we will be victorious because our God is on our side.
-
Come on, somebody.
-
God's with us today.
-
There's a lady who was a great uh leader, and when I was a youth minister for years, she was one of the leaders in the youth group, and um, and her and her husband have been married for 40 years, and he died tragically two years ago.
-
And we were having my wife and I were having um lunch with her just a couple weeks ago, and then I asked her, and her name is Tia.
-
I looked at her, I said, Tia, how has it been?
-
Like, what is it like these last couple years?
-
I was expecting to hear the trials, the loneliness, the pain.
-
She said this phrase, and and I'm telling you, it marked my life.
-
She says, I have never felt God's presence more than I have in the last two years.
-
That shows me the character of our God.
-
That He is near the brokenhearted.
-
You might not recognize it.
-
God's with you during this time.
-
Joshua, who was the great leader that brought the children of Israel into the promised land, here was the promise given to him in Joshua 1.5.
-
It says like this it says, No one will be able to stand against you all the days of your life.
-
Some of y'all, you're facing some stuff that seems overwhelming, whether it's a job change or it's a career thing that's going on or something in your family, and you go, Aaron, some stuff's against me right now.
-
He says, But as I was with Moses, so I will be with you.
-
I will never leave you nor forsake you.
-
I don't I don't know about you, but I'm thankful that our God is a God that it will never leave us, never forsake us, that when we go through the fires of life, he is with us even in the midst of that.
-
And if God's with us, then I just say that's enough for you to walk in victory in your life.
-
Can I hear a better amen today, church?
-
God's with us.
-
We gotta recognize his presence.
-
Here's a second one I want you to understand that when you're in the midst of an unfair scenario, it is to my advantage to move forward.
-
To move forward.
-
Like I'm not getting stuck in what was.
-
And some of y'all just continue to live in the good old days.
-
When man, when I was single, man, when the kids were young, man, when the business was thriving, oh, before COVID, the good old days.
-
And Joseph had to make a decision.
-
He didn't ask for this journey, but on the journey, as he got to a new season, he had to make a decision.
-
I'm gonna move forward towards what God has for me next.
-
Let me show it to you.
-
We're in Podfurst house.
-
He's sold as a slave, and it says, When his master saw that the Lord was with him and that the Lord gave him success, say success?
-
Now I want you to understand that.
-
That's a big deal.
-
Because if I was Joseph, I don't know if I would have success in this next season.
-
Because I'd be thinking all about how do I get out of this house?
-
How do I get back to where I came from so that I can get back at my brothers for what they did to me.
-
I'd be thinking all about the past.
-
But Joseph made a decision.
-
If God brought me to this new season, whether I asked for it or not, I'm gonna be successful in this new season that God has me in.
-
I think some of y'all, you didn't ask for the singleness you're in right now.
-
But I believe God can give you success in it.
-
Some of y'all have been praying for that child, you haven't got a child yet.
-
I bet you can be successful in the season you're in right now.
-
Some of y'all have been believing God for a promotion in your life and you haven't seen it happen yet.
-
Here's what you do.
-
Can you be successful in what God's got you in right now?
-
And he says, look, God gave him success in everything he did.
-
So Joseph found favor in his eyes and became his attendant.
-
I think it's interesting.
-
I see, I see ownership in that in Joseph's part.
-
I'm gonna become your attendant.
-
I'm I'm gonna submit to this new season.
-
I'm not looking backwards, I'm moving forward.
-
So Potiphar then responded, which by the way, the world is watching how you deal with unfair scenarios.
-
The world's gonna watch.
-
Are they gonna deal with it the same way I do it?
-
Or are they actually gonna go with the hope that God's given them?
-
And he said, Potiphar put him in charge of his household and entrusted to his care.
-
Everything he owned.
-
Joseph had to make the conscious decision.
-
I'm gonna move forward.
-
Let me encourage you with this.
-
Ready?
-
Don't let the bad of a past season create bitterness in this next season that God has for you.
-
Some of y'all are so focused on the bad that that business partner hurt me, that the economy messed me up, and I'm bitter and I'm frustrated.
-
And you're what you're doing is you're taking that bitterness and you're walking into this next season, and you end up bleeding on a bunch of people that never cut you at the beginning.
-
So everybody's around you is suffering for what you went through last.
-
And God sent me here from Tampa to give you this one word.
-
It's time to move on today.
-
It's time to move forward today.
-
You've been stuck on what was for too bad, too long.
-
Now, is it fair what you went through?
-
No.
-
Was it wrong?
-
Yes.
-
Was it terrible what they did?
-
Absolutely.
-
But what are you gonna do?
-
Are you gonna sulk in the past?
-
Are you gonna move on to what God has for you next?
-
It's a season to move on.
-
To move on.
-
My wife and I we would love to do a little binge watching of some Netflix shows.
-
And uh about a year ago, last summer, we got into some Korean love dramas.
-
Now, don't, don't, don't, don't fight us on this thing because you get into them, they are addicting.
-
And so we we got this this show, and they're they're like super clean.
-
Like you can find some, they're super clean.
-
So we watched some shows last summer, they're all like subtitled, so I considered it my summer reading.
-
Come on, somebody.
-
I like made it a whim.
-
These storylines are so good and they're so awesome.
-
So we were watching one of those shows last year, and you get about halfway through it, and I just never forget where where it looks like the main character dies, you know, the love story's over, looks like it's all falling apart.
-
And you've all watched a Netflix show before where you know this happens.
-
At the end of the show, the end of the episode, it's all lost, and then this pops up right here.
-
Boom.
-
Y'all know what I'm talking about.
-
And it, you know, it's only three seconds long.
-
You don't even know that.
-
If you knew it's only three seconds, you let it just play through and go to the next episode.
-
But you don't.
-
At least my wife does.
-
I'm telling you, she can scroll so quick over to that thing and just click that button.
-
We gotta figure out what's next.
-
Figure out what's next.
-
So we have this moment that I just I'll never forget it last year.
-
We're watching this show, and I look at it and I'm like, Katie, do you know there's two buttons there?
-
Some of y'all have watched a lot of Netflix and never knew what I've known what I'm talking about right now.
-
There's two buttons there.
-
And I started to think to myself, who in their right mind?
-
Like, who in their right mind?
-
The other button's there.
-
You didn't even know this existed.
-
That is a real button you can push.
-
And I'm sitting there going, who in their right mind would push that when you can click next episode?
-
Why in the world would you rehash who did what?
-
Who was this character, who died, and then he's fast.
-
No, I'm gonna click next episode, and I'm telling you, here's a word from God for your life today.
-
Some of you, you're focused on all the people that hurt you, all that went wrong in that last season.
-
God's saying, click next episode, he's got something for your future.
-
Come on, give him better praise today, church.
-
Amen.
-
Yeah.
-
Yeah, to click next episode.
-
God's still got a plan for your life.
-
What do you do when life is unfair?
-
Here's what you do you recognize God's presence, you move forward, and then here's your third one.
-
We'll close with this one.
-
Is you embrace God's redirection.
-
That as you move forward, and you're not walking in bitterness.
-
By the way, I think it's very important that we never see a moment in Joseph's life where he's walking in bitterness or resentment towards his brothers that hurt him.
-
He's gonna move forward, and he embraces God's redirection.
-
It's interesting in our story.
-
I can't give you all the details, I gave a lot of it in the book, so you can get it, it'll help you.
-
But um, in our story, Joseph is working at Potiphar's house, and Potiphar's wife gets a little thirsty, and she starts making a move on Joseph, and Joseph makes a decision to stand for integrity.
-
One of the whole chapters is on the unfair advantage of integrity in your life.
-
When you do the right thing, even if nobody sees it, God sees it and God rewards it.
-
And Joseph chooses integrity, um, but he does not get the outcome he wants.
-
Which, by the way, um, following God is not about getting the right outcome we want, it's about being obedient to him, despite the outcome.
-
So you're like, I tithe and I got more broke.
-
Who cares?
-
We're gonna honor God, we're gonna walk do it God's way, and we're gonna do life his way.
-
And so, so, so Joseph does it God's way and gets.
-
God was redirecting his life even in very dark seasons of his life.
-
When I was growing up, we used to have these things called um, how do we call it?
-
Cameras.
-
Y'all remember cameras?
-
And uh in the back of a camera, we'd have this thing.
-
I know you don't believe me, if you're under 30, you have to Google it.
-
It's a thing called film.
-
Okay?
-
It's crazy.
-
And and you couldn't just take as many pictures as you wanted to take.
-
You actually had to do it based on how much film you had.
-
And if you open the camera, how many know what would happen?
-
It would all be all be messed up, exposed, and messed up.
-
So you'd have to take your film, your camera, to the local drugstore, the CVS, the Walgreens, the Eckerd's.
-
Come on, somebody.
-
I don't know anything about no Eckerd's drugs.
-
So you go there and they take it like it was the holy grail.
-
You know, they crowd this thing, they take it into the back.
-
I remember they would go into a place called the dark room, dark room, and then they would take the film out and they would start to develop it.
-
And beautiful pictures, all those pictures you had growing up, they were developed in the dark rim.
-
What I've realized about our God is that God is still developing beautiful picture in the dark rooms of life.
-
And as dark as it seems, and as difficult as it seems, the prison has a purpose.
-
And while you're in that dark season for life, I'm gonna encourage you to lean into the direction of God's spirit and watch how even when it's not what you asked for, but watch how he'll redirect your life into that dark season.
-
I remember I got saved at 16 years old.
-
I mean, I was going to a local Christian school, shows you that not everybody at Christian school is a Christian, and I was the I was the worst kid in the school, worst kid in school.
-
And I got saved at 16 years old, had a radical encounter with God, came back that summer and into my 11th grade year on fire for Jesus.
-
Like God changed my life.
-
So I started a little Bible club at my school, and I was so excited, so passionate about it.
-
Started to see all these kids getting saved, and all this amazing stuff happened.
-
A month before my 11th grade year ends, the principal of the school has this vendetta against me.
-
He was out to get me, found some stuff with my past, ended up bringing me into his office.
-
One month before the 11th grade year ended, I just invented the senior class president of my class, and he brings me in and he expels me from the Christian school.
-
Now, just want you to know, your speaker today was expelled from Christian school.
-
So if you if you got a teenager that's like really rough, then I'm telling you, there's one or two paths.
-
He's either going to prison or he's gonna be a pastor one day.
-
So there's there's hope.
-
Just telling you.
-
So, so I get expelled, and I'm telling you, it was rough.
-
I went through a deep season of depression, like frustrated.
-
But I remember leaning into God's presence during that time.
-
I felt so betrayed, so frustrated.
-
I was so angry.
-
I had to let that resentment, let that bitterness go.
-
And as I did, I felt the Lord leading me to like, hey, just go to the junior college.
-
I was gonna do some some college credits.
-
We call it dual enrollment.
-
I don't even know if it's still a thing, where you can get all your high school college credits done while you're in high school.
-
So I get a year of college done my 11th, my 12th grade year.
-
And then I end up going to Southeastern, right up this road.
-
And at Southeastern, I ended up graduating in three years instead of four years because I had a year of school done.
-
On the day of my graduation, I'm about to walk on stage to get my diploma.
-
The director of the missions department pulls me aside and says, Aaron, he says, What do you got going on?
-
I said, I don't know.
-
I have a couple different job offers.
-
Do you have opportunities?
-
He goes, Well, we just had a spot open up in an island on the coast of India, right out there called Sri Lanka.
-
They just about hit by this huge tsunami.
-
He goes, If you can get on a plane in three weeks, you can go there and be a director of this organization.
-
5,000 kids.
-
Like it was my ultimate dream.
-
So I was like, let me pray about it.
-
Yes, obviously, I'm going.
-
Three weeks later, I'm on a plane flying to South Asia to live the purpose of God for my life.
-
And the epiphany hits me.
-
Why am I on this plane?
-
I'm only on this plane because I just graduated.
-
Why did I just graduate?
-
Well, I graduated in three years because I had a year of college done.
-
Why did I have a year of college done early?
-
I had a year of college done early because I got expelled.
-
Why was I expelled?
-
Because that principal had a vendetta against me.
-
What the enemy meant for harm, God used it for the good.
-
Come on, somebody.
-
As a follower of Jesus, even my haters make my purpose happen.
-
Come on, somebody.
-
You think they're hurting you?
-
You think that thing's gonna let you down?
-
Watch.
-
You're gonna look back one day like I can now and say, it had to happen to give God the glory he deserved.
-
It had to happen.
-
Actually, I want to make a t-shirt.
-
So I need an ex Access Church t-shirt.
-
The haters made it happen.
-
Haters made it happen.
-
How are you so blessed?
-
Haters made it happen.
-
I'm telling you, they meant to harm me.
-
God used it for the good.
-
He can do the same thing in your life.
-
I don't know what you're coming up against and what you're facing and what you're struggling with.
-
You leverage God's presence in this moment.
-
You lean in them, you don't get in resentment and bitterness.
-
Watch, watch.
-
How he'll bring you through this darkest season and he'll walk you into that destiny he has for your life.
-
I want to pray for you in just a second.
-
Before I do, I want to give a little bit of encouragement.
-
Some of y'all look at the story of Joseph, and you're going, Aaron, that sounds awesome, but I'm not Joseph.
-
I mean, Joseph was the guy that made all the right decisions.
-
Didn't he?
-
Young age, he's dreaming with God.
-
You're like, I was not dreaming with God at a young age.
-
Rejected by his family, chooses forgiveness, works hard despite being recognized, not being recognized, does everything right.
-
Joseph made every right decision.
-
He chose integrity, he chose all to trust God, even in dark seasons, you're like, Aaron, that's not me.
-
I haven't done that.
-
I haven't lived the way I needed to live.
-
And honestly, I don't know how God can use this for his glory.
-
I have a good news for you today because I was studying this passage.
-
This isn't even in the book, this part.
-
I really need to rewrite the book because this part has to be in there.
-
Because in the end of the story, I realized we're not Joseph in the story.
-
We're not Joseph in the story.
-
There's another guy in the story called the cupbearer.
-
The cupbearer, you might not know the story, but while Joseph is in prison, the cupbearer, Pharaoh's official, sins against Pharaoh and is thrown into the prison with a death sentence.
-
That is what sin has done to all of our lives.
-
We are all at a place where we have fallen short of the glory of God.
-
We're the cupbearer.
-
We're the one that sinned and deserved death.
-
But as I was studying this, I realized, well, what do we do when we're in our prison?
-
And it was in the prison where the cupbearer was at that he could not get out that Joseph came in.
-
Joseph came into the prison and helped the cupbearer get out of the prison so that he could walk into his purpose.
-
Joseph isn't you.
-
Joseph is Jesus.
-
Jesus is the one that did all the right things, but was betrayed by his brothers.
-
He was rejected.
-
He chose purity, and yet he was still thrown into the prison that we're all in.
-
And because of that, you know why Jesus went into that prison?
-
He went into this world and into your sin to bring you out, to let you walk into the destiny God has for you.
-
Aren't we thankful for our Jesus today?
-
Just take a second and close your eyes all over the room.
-
All those that are watching online.
-
I want to encourage some people today.
-
First of all, I want to talk to the people that you're in an unfair season right now.
-
You're in here today, maybe it's unfair the diagnosis you got, unfair how you've been overlooked, unfair what happened with your family.
-
Just do me a favor, right there in your seat.
-
You go, I'm in an unfair season.
-
I'll just take your hand, put it right over your heart.
-
God, protect our hearts.
-
Oh God.
-
Lord, protect us from bitterness and resentment and looking backwards.
-
We choose to forgive today.
-
We choose to move forward today to all that you have for us.
-
God, we're not gonna be stuck in the frustration of yesterday.
-
We're gonna move forward to what you have us tomorrow.
-
Help us to use these unfair scenarios for our advantage of what you've got for our lives.
