It's always great to have a supportive wife who when you're she cut they call you up, she's like, let's go, let's go, Brody, you got this, right?
-
Natalie, come on.
-
My biggest cheerleader, if I can open this, but I can't even open my iPad here.
-
Hold on.
-
Yeah.
-
Man, sometimes the Lord just speaks to you in uh in worship.
-
And I know today our message is really uh surrounding the fact that um we're f as we're following the ministry mindset of Jesus, how Jesus actually does ministry and how he's called us to minister.
-
And uh as we we've looked at the scripture, I just I was just really sensing in the room uh that uh the presence of God is just so important for you and your house.
-
And I don't want to lose this moment.
-
I know it doesn't fit into the message that I'm sharing right at this point, but when the Ark of the Covenant was uh the Ark of God's presence, uh the um the altar of the altar that David, David worshipped at, that was carried through the wilderness in the tent of the Holy of Holies, it represented God's presence.
-
There was a pillar of fire and there was a pillar of smoke on that space, though, representing his presence.
-
Um as David carried it, and and there were times wherever the wherever it went, everywhere they went, they had success, they had victory.
-
The presence was there until the Philistines got a hold of it.
-
And you know, God speaks to me in strange ways.
-
Sometimes I'm sure God speaks to you too in different ways, but just follow my train of thought.
-
The the Philistines capture the Ark of the Covenant, they capture it, and they decide to make a mockery of it, and they drag it into the temple where their God is, where their uh their idol is.
-
And that day they they mock it and they come back the next day, and the alt, like their God, I think it's Dagon, fell on his face before the altar.
-
So they go like, oh, that's crazy.
-
They pick him up again.
-
The next day they found him fallen, both his wrists are broken, his head is severed.
-
And they're like, Well, that's a problem.
-
How many?
-
So they, you know, they're like, we're gonna move this altar.
-
So they move the altar.
-
Because where the spirit of God is accepted, there's something, but where it's rejected, it's another thing.
-
And when you have a house where you accept and you welcome the spirit of presence of God, well, later on, um, the next place they go, they continue to reject and despise the presence of God.
-
And the Bible says that God just literally created where people were like mocking the presence of God, they all got hemorrhoids.
-
Do you know?
-
Like if like and I read the scripture and I just think, oh God, you built that verse for me.
-
Because in that portion of scripture, I just think you didn't listen to the idol falling over, you didn't listen to the hands broken, the head severed, like God will not be mocked that way.
-
And so they they literally, I'm gonna speak in a way that you understand.
-
You're gonna get a flaming hemorrhoid, and the Bible says the whole nation had tumors and were like panic, like people were in anguish.
-
So God knows how to get your attention.
-
And they're like, we need this thing out of the way, and they go and they bury it in some corner.
-
And 30 years plus years there, they're it's left until David finds out where it is and goes to get it.
-
And in his process of moving it, and moving it, uh, he moves it improperly.
-
He puts the ark on a on a cart pulled by by animals, by oxen.
-
And the it ends up that people end up dying, and so uh so he says, Well, I gotta figure this out, and because I can't just keep moving it in a way that doesn't honor God.
-
So he actually puts the ark in someone's house, Obed-Edom's house.
-
And Obed-Edom becomes the guardian of this for three months.
-
He has the ark in his house.
-
Now he honors the Lord in his house, and he opens up his house and he honors God in the house.
-
And the Bible says in those three short months, his whole house was blessed, and his his goats had triplets, like his crops grew, everything he touched was blessed, to the point where afterwards, where they decide we're gonna bring the ark into Jerusalem, but it's gonna be like on the shoulders of priests, and there's gonna be celebration, you know where that led to David.
-
He's dancing, he's so he's stripping off his clothes, and he's like, I'll become even more undignified than this before the presence of God.
-
It's not about me, it's about his presence.
-
And he brings it into the temple, he gives the whole country.
-
Now, this may not sound exciting on on Thanksgiving, raisin cake and bread and stuff to party with, the whole country so they could celebrate the presence of God.
-
And Obed Edom actually becomes, he says, I'm gonna move my place.
-
And I, because I value and I've learned to value the the presence of God.
-
And he becomes a doorkeeper in the house of God, and where the one scripture says, better is one day in the house of the Lord than a thousand anywhere else.
-
So you can spend a thousand days searching and and trying to find success and healing and and and help, but one day in the presence of God is all it takes.
-
But you honor when we honor God.
-
If you reject him and you abuse him and you like go to mock it, like your heart isn't right with him.
-
We see the the extreme example.
-
I don't want hemorrhoids.
-
I'm good.
-
I want the blessing of the Lord.
-
Is anyone with me?
-
We're not gonna title this sermon today, you know, the day God blessed Brody.
-
But the thing is, we want God's blessing, and it's gonna happen because we honor his presence.
-
So we want to be a house that honors the presence of God.
-
Amen.
-
In this house.
-
Father, we just thank you for your presence.
-
We thank you for your word.
-
We ask, Lord, that you would minister to us today, Lord.
-
Allow my voice to be that conduit of your voice in Jesus' name.
-
Amen.
-
Well, happy Thanksgiving, everyone.
-
I always have to say it.
-
Uh the start of today, it's it's a good day to be to be in Canada.
-
It's a good day to be in Kelowna.
-
Thank those poor people in Calgary with snow and everywhere else.
-
I just like, good day to be in Kelowna.
-
And I want to start by honoring, you know, the a specific group of people in the room.
-
You're here in body, but your spirit's at home in the oven.
-
And so I, how many of you today is Thanksgiving?
-
You got a turkey.
-
Yeah, some people are here.
-
How many of you are tomorrow?
-
Tomorrow's your day.
-
Yeah, tomorrow's your day.
-
It's uh God sees you if it today's your day, and I know you're thinking about that turkey.
-
And uh, others of you that are here today, someone here is the person who's just bringing buns.
-
Who's the buns people here today?
-
What can I bring?
-
I'll bring buns.
-
I love when they come, they're like, these are the best buns ever.
-
These buns are amazing.
-
Everyone, check out my buns.
-
They always elevate the fact that they brought a bag of buns, and you're like, wonderful, so good.
-
They're the most relaxed people in the room on Thanksgiving.
-
They like drop their baggie on the table and welcome to Thanksgiving.
-
Grateful to be able to, you know, to contribute today.
-
I love that everyone around the city today is gathering around a table.
-
The whole country is about to sit around a table.
-
And really, this was planned, particularly for today, because I believe Jesus had a plan.
-
God had a plan.
-
Uh, a number of weeks ago, we started to talk about the harvest, and the saddest thing in a harvest is uh not a bad crop, but a fact that a crop never gets picked.
-
When you drive through, and I know that there are some places today, I drive through the orchard and I see still see apples falling from the tree, and I'm like, oh, someone should pick those.
-
We should get those, and every harvest in history begins at that place where someone collects it, but the harvest doesn't isn't supposed to go from like the tree to a bin.
-
The harvest finalizes at your table.
-
The table is where the harvest comes, and it happens when people sit together and they eat.
-
In 1957, our country officially set this weekend aside, and I love their wording, a day of general thanksgiving to Almighty God for the bountiful harvest.
-
Amen.
-
That's not my wording, that was Ottawa in 1957, and uh they they knew where their source was.
-
The harvest was never meant to end in a bin, it was meant to end at your table.
-
So the message today is going to be very in ordinary.
-
Or, and uh, you know, some people say, Is it supernatural?
-
This is a very natural message, and sometimes the most natural messages are the most supernatural messages.
-
So last Sunday we sat in verse four, and I loved Pastor Malachi's message.
-
God sends out 72, Jesus sends out 72 with the most important mission of their life.
-
He says, I'm sending you out like sheep among wolves.
-
Go get the harvest, pray.
-
You're asking what to bring, and I'm gonna tell you, bring nothing.
-
I love that.
-
No bag, no purse, no sandals, don't even greet people along the way.
-
Don't act like you need something, just go.
-
And I think that how many of you would like your spouse to say, We're going on vacation.
-
What am I to pack?
-
Nothing.
-
You just be freaking out, but this is gonna be the best trip ever.
-
It's like it's not starting off well.
-
But this is what he says in verse 5 after that, because I'm sure they're wondering, where do we eat?
-
Where do we stay?
-
Do you know bedroll, nothing?
-
Luke chapter 10 says, When you enter a house, first say, peace to this house.
Luke 10 chapter mention
-
If someone who promotes peace is there, your peace will rest on them.
-
If not, it will return to you.
-
Then stay there, eating, drinking, whatever they give you, for the worker deserves his wages.
-
Do not move around from house to house.
-
When you enter a town and are welcomed, eat what is offered to you.
-
And if you look at the scripture, it has some of my favorite words enter, stay, eat, and stay a little more.
-
Sounds like Thanksgiving, hey, just like bring peace, eat, and then just stick around for a little while.
-
And there's an ordinary part of this scripture that is really extraordinary.
-
Don't go traveling with a microphone, a stage, a pet press package ahead of you.
-
Don't do any of that.
-
Just go to the front door, go to a table, and eat and stay for dinner and hang out.
-
Some translations start the verse this way: whatever house you enter, just to stay there.
-
Whatever house you enter, not just the nice houses or the or the you know the religious ones, whatever one you enter, just stick around.
-
And Jesus' strategy here for changing a city included ordinary people opening ordinary homes.
-
How many of you are ordinary here today?
-
How many of you have an ordinary home?
-
The message and the method that God inspired the first 72 ministers to go with was ordinary.
-
Go to ordinary places, don't go to the high places, don't like, don't go to all these specialty places, just go to a door, sit at a table, eat some food, stay a while, and connect.
-
That's too easy, isn't it?
-
So, where does this ministry actually happen?
-
In this building or in our house?
-
Where is ministry start and stop?
-
And Luke wrote a sequel in of his book in Luke, the book of Acts.
-
He says, After Pentecost, there are 3,000 brand new believers.
-
And watch where they go.
-
Every day they continued to meet together in Acts chapter 2 in the temple court.
Acts 2 chapter mention
-
So they went to the temple and then they broke bread in their homes, ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God, enjoying the favor of all the people.
-
And the Lord continued to add to their number those who are being saved.
-
So the answer isn't should you be in church or should you be in home?
-
The answer is be in church and be in home.
-
It's both.
-
The early church had one really big room and it had smaller rooms around in houses.
-
So I love the house of God.
-
I love God's house.
-
I love that someone built a strong foundation in this place.
-
But I want to tell you it matters so much because I think it has to do, uh being in your home has to do with so much of the way that God made you.
-
You were made by a creator, an author, a maker.
-
And it is constant, uh in it's your brain, your body, your soul is constantly being uh adjusted to his design.
-
And in your your brain, you actually pull out memories.
-
How many of you have great memories of Thanksgiving?
-
Great memories of Thanksgiving.
-
The ones that last are the ones that pull that you can pull on uh 20 years later are almost never made with just like one of your five senses.
-
The ones that get forged in your soul are several senses that actually happen at the same time.
-
And so uh, you know, in your brain, when you experience a memory, it becomes like a photograph, and that photograph leaves like a an exposure.
-
And some people, when they deal with negative in negative experiences, they have that negative exposure and there needs to be healing.
-
That's often why we do uh we do events like the marriage event this weekend, because we want to address those negative exposures and we want to uh approach them with a new memory, because new memories can overlap old memories.
-
Now, thinking about what happens when you come to church in the morning, when you come to God's house, you have lots of sensual sense uh experiences.
-
So there's points of touch.
-
You know, how many of you shook someone's hand today?
-
Some of you, when you came into the room, you you're looking around and you've got sight, you're connecting with people eyeball to eyeball.
-
You're you're in the sound in the room and you hear the sound and you hear music and worship and praise happening.
-
Those are three of the five senses.
-
And when you're in that place every single week, in God's house, experiencing those senses, um, that's God making a memory card for your soul.
-
And it's your soul that actually worships the Lord.
-
Your mind, your will, your emotions, your connection, it connects you to God.
-
Uh Psalms 103 says, Praise the Lord, my soul, all my innermost being, praise his holy name, praise the Lord, my soul, and don't forget any of his benefits.
-
So we can forget the things of God that we're supposed to be grateful for.
-
If we if our soul begins to forget, but as we're in this room and we watch one another and we connect with each other and we hear the worship together, we can connect with God, and that's what community does, and that's what good community does.
-
It values your soul, it gives you something to hold on to.
-
Community is how God values your whole soul.
-
So we hold on to that because the church did not just stop at the temple courts, it actually moved into homes.
-
It was in homes where they broke bread with each other and shared with each other and laughed with each other.
-
And sometimes the most mis or underused ministry space in the church isn't necessarily the stage.
-
It's your fridge and stove and oven and kitchen table and countertop and living room.
-
That's where ministry happens, not just in the church.
-
So, how do we how does Jesus say to go about this?
-
He says, when you go, when you enter a house in Luke 10, verse 5, he says, when you enter a house, first say to it, peace to this house.
-
And when you're there, you're promoting peace.
-
When you walk in the door, it's not about a pitch, it's about peace.
-
It's about bringing peace, not an argument about something you saw online or a discussion on the political climate of BC or the municipal events that are happening.
-
How many of you know there's a lot to talk about?
-
But when you come to a table, Jesus says, Bring peace with you.
-
Let peace go before you.
-
Shalom.
-
You're saying, I want everything in this house to be the way God intended it to be, and I want you to know it.
-
And it gets even deeper.
-
The word peace actually is a blessing.
-
So when you pray, you walk in and you say, peace in this house.
-
It becomes a prayer over that place.
-
Peace always comes back to you.
-
Jesus said, When you go to the house and you say peace, if they don't accept it, the peace will return to you.
-
Like, what a good deal.
-
Bring peace.
-
Be a minister of reconciliation, a minister of peace.
-
Peace always comes back.
-
Nothing in the history of the kingdom ever went broke, and nobody went broke.
-
Blessing a house.
-
When you walk into a house this weekend on Thanksgiving weekend, bring peace.
-
I love peace.
-
So are we bringing peace?
-
The next point here is that Jesus says, When you're there, I want you to stay there.
-
Luke 10, verse 7 says, Stay there.
-
How many of you know that there are some people who don't leave there, but it's important to start with staying.
-
Stay there, eat there, drink there.
-
Whatever they give you, take part of it.
-
Do not move around from house to house.
-
Jesus didn't stay, drop by, he said stay.
-
Now he's saying this because in his culture, people would come to a place and they'd stay there for a bit and then realize and hear, oh, the olive oil is better down the street, you know, whatever it was.
-
And they're like, let's go there.
-
And people would frequent different houses.
-
And Jesus was saying, No, I want, I don't want you to look for a better offer.
-
I want you to stick around and stay for a bit.
-
Don't move around from house to house.
-
And it's the first recorded instruction uh in the Bible against uh church group hopping.
-
Like just don't bounce around so much.
-
Find somewhere and stay there.
-
Put roots down.
-
Nobody connects.
-
Nobody connects by bouncing around.
-
No one connects.
-
Have you ever been to a drive-thru?
-
It's like you're gonna make like an impression on that person who just tap here, and you're like, good to meet you, and you're like, you just tap and you're gone.
-
There's no connection with someone who's just moving through.
-
To stop and to stay and to connect makes a difference.
-
Discipleship moves at the speed, like enjoy the meal, connect together over a meal.
-
Um, if you go back to Genesis, uh the Lord uh God said one thing, he said it's not good for man to be alone, man or woman to be alone.
-
And the first thing God ever called not good is interesting because God said that that this isn't good, but it's not a sin.
-
It's just not good for you.
-
It's not good that you're alone.
-
And I know some people that are like, I'm just an introvert, I have low social energy.
-
I'm kind of mocking it, but it's kind of funny because the Bible says it's not a sin, it's just not good for you.
-
I'd be like, well, get some social energy here.
-
It'll be good for you to be around people, leave your house, sit at the table, connect with people, talk to someone, connect with each other.
-
It's not a sin to be introverted, it's just not good for you.
-
So make an opportunity and take the opportunity to do that.
-
Before there was a fall, God looked at man in a perfect garden.
-
I wouldn't say clone is perfect, but it's pretty nice.
-
And yet, even in Eden, God said he's got a lot of cool stuff here.
-
It's the Garden of Eden, and it's still not good enough that he's alone.
-
Our life can be good, but we need one another.
-
In 2023, as they were assessing COVID, the the Surgeon General of the, you're not alone, uh, of the United States called loneliness, actually an epidemic.
-
And he described it as being like you're literally hungry or thirsty, a signal that someone needs that someone's needs or someone, something in someone is missing.
-
And your mind, your will, your emotions were made by God to be fed by people.
-
God gave you a relationship with himself, but God also gave you relationship with one another.
-
So, so in that place where Jesus is saying stay, he's saying, I want you to connect.
-
And so when you're connecting, how many of you know like hospitality is not just like uh it's just not extra for certain people who enjoy cooking?
-
They're like, oh, you're so hospitable.
-
It's like, no, I'm just I'm making food is one thing, but to be hospitable is I actually see it as a spiritual warfare against isolation.
-
The Bible says one of the one of the commendations of a leader is that you are a person who is hospitable.
-
And some of us have to learn how to be hospitable, but hospitality is a spiritual tool in our tool belt to actually wage warfare against the enemy.
-
There are people like the Bible says that, or Peter said that the enemy comes growling around, roaring around like a lion, looking to who he can devour.
-
And he's looking for the lonely, he's looking for the ones that are on the outside.
-
So if your hospitality brings someone in, you're actually doing something that is protective and protecting them.
-
And they don't uh like all of a sudden, when you're in a group, in a community, all of a sudden the things that you're hearing and you're believing get challenged and people uh confront you and people support you.
-
We need one another.
-
And so that means like some of you were doing spiritual warfare this weekend, and you're like, Well, all I did was peel potatoes.
-
Yeah.
-
Spiritual warfare.
-
And I'm serious.
-
I told you this would be an ordinary message.
-
Your weapon of warfare was your casserole.
-
It was.
-
They're really good casseroles, Debbie.
-
That by the way, that's my mother-in-law.
-
Well done yesterday.
-
That is spiritual warfare.
-
Hospitality is spiritual warfare.
-
Romans 12, 13 says, share with the people who are in need.
-
Practice hospitality.
-
And you'll protect the church, and you'll protect one another, and you'll protect others.
-
Find the lonely, bring them into a family.
-
I looked at uh I was with a friend this weekend, and we were talking about Young Gi Cho, and he's uh it's a big church in South uh South Korea.
-
It was uh founded um uh by him and it at its pinnacle of attendance, 700,000 members of that church.
-
They just do things big, right?
-
And of their church of 700,000, they asked him, like, what did like what's the what was your skill, what was your key?
-
And he said, Well, we had 25,000 small home groups throughout the week.
-
And get this of the 25,000, 19,000 were run by women.
-
Let's hear it for the women in the room.
-
Come on.
-
76% of all small groups were led by the women in the church who were opening up their home and being hospitable to the people that were coming in.
-
The growth of the church wasn't made up by just filling up a massive auditorium.
-
The the thousands of thousands and thousands of homes that were open up throughout the week were what were responsible for doing ministry Jesus' way.
-
There are people who uh who have a broken down barriers, spiritual barriers with people just because they're home, they've invited them into their home.
-
Don't ever neglect that simple opportunity to just welcome someone in.
-
The third piece here is about connection.
-
Luke chapter 10 ends because the chapter opens with Jesus sending people out into houses, and it closes with Jesus walking into a house.
Luke 10 chapter mention
-
So it starts with him sending people out, and it ends with them coming back to a house.
-
Luke chapter 10, verse 38 to 40.
-
Jesus and his disciples are on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him.
-
She had a sister called Mary who sat at the Lord's feet listening to what he said.
-
But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made.
-
She came to him and she said, Lord, don't you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself?
-
Tell her to help me.
-
I love Martha.
-
She's like the patron saint of Thanksgiving.
-
Busy to work, and some of you are going to go through this live scene of this scripture tomorrow.
-
13 people are gonna be in the living room, the gravy will have lumps.
-
How many of you have seen those lumps in gravy?
-
Like, that was my job as a kid.
-
Like, work those lumps out.
-
The rolls are still frozen in the middle because now the people who brought the rolls didn't even make them fresh, right?
-
Pulled them out of the freezer, and somebody was, and I'm not gonna say who, is gonna be sitting on the couch doing absolutely nothing.
-
Martha does what every single one of us have wanted to do at some point during the holidays, and that's tattle on your sister.
-
Jesus, God, look at her.
-
You've never thought about that, have you?
-
And Jesus says, You're distracted by something else, Martha.
-
Now, like before we like jump all over Martha, because bad Martha, bad, bad, bad.
-
Be more like Mary.
-
Martha was the one who made the invitation to Jesus.
-
Martha was the one who opened up her house.
-
Martha invited 13 people in and decided to feed them.
-
Let's hear it from Martha, okay?
-
Come on, good.
-
Martha's the only one in the story who actually was doing something about for Jesus.
-
But Martha was not wrong to cook, she was just wrong to think that cooking was the point.
-
So Jesus closes this loop and he says, Martha, Martha.
-
And when the scripture where where Jesus repeats your name once or twice, it's like Simon Simon.
-
It's like not like, oh, Simon Simon.
-
It's like Judah, Judah, my son.
-
It's like it's tender.
-
It's like I want, I want to connect with you here.
-
He says, Martha, you're worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed, or indeed, only one.
-
Mary has chosen what's better, and it will not be taken away from her.
-
And so this isn't like Jesus is seeing this, and he doesn't get angry.
-
He's saying the whole purpose is to connect.
-
You gotta remember your soul.
-
Connect with Jesus.
-
Your will, your emotions, your your heart to connect with him.
-
Her emotions are being pulled every single way, and you know what?
-
The dishes could wait, the food could wait, some things can wait.
-
In fact, there's a blessing in the waiting, the scripture even says.
-
You know, blessed are those who wait.
-
There's a wait that's okay.
-
So you can be in the same house, have the same Jesus, and one sister serves him with her hands, the other connected to him with her soul.
-
And Jesus didn't want less of Martha's cooking, he just wanted more of Martha.
-
This week I was in Toronto with uh uh Pastor Malachi, and we went to a national ministers uh network uh conference for Canada.
-
We have a thousand pastors represented in our network now.
-
I'm I get to serve as the area director for NBC.
-
And uh we were at this incredible facility, the Canadian Christian College, and uh it serves 3,000 young adults in this room.
-
Uh over five years, they've seen 26,000 people come to make a decision to follow Christ.
-
It's been a pretty impressive event, and uh and I got all I was like, man, this is a beautiful place, but I'll tell you at the end of the trip, I asked Pastor Malk, I said, what was your favorite part?
-
And and he and I agreed that one of our the most favorite experiences we had was being invited to someone's home, and they ordered skip the dishes, and he sent us a text.
-
Do you like red raw or red lobster?
-
And I'm like, sure.
-
I don't know how close they were to the ocean.
-
Like, I don't know how fresh it wasn't, but it's it's red lobster.
-
And I got lobster and prawns, and like a little, and we just it came in a in a plastic Tupperware thing, and came and we sat down at the table and we shared together, and we cared on what like cared, we celebrated and laughed.
-
It was better than the multi-million dollar facility that we were in.
-
Was the fact that we were connecting heart to heart.
-
Jesus says, Bring peace to the home you're in.
-
This is the ministry.
-
How many ministers do we have in the room?
-
Raise your hand.
-
All of us are ministers in this room.
-
God's called us all to minister.
-
Wherever you go, Jesus says this bring peace.
-
And then I want you to stay there.
-
Eat what they give you, drink what they give you, and connect with them.
-
Not with activity and works, connect with your heart, connect with your soul.
-
And when I look at this, I think, Lord, what would the city look like if the city began to operate out of this form of ministry?
-
How many people would be reached?
-
How many lonely people would be brought in?
-
You know that Kelowna has one of the uh epidemics in Kelowna is loneliness.
-
We live in one of the most beautiful cities in the world.
-
I tell people anywhere I go, the most desired place in Canada to live is Kelowna, and the most desired nation in the world to live in is Canada.
-
I live in the most desired place in the world.
-
And we are here and people are lonely.
-
And we're called to be a solution.
-
I'm gonna invite the team to come up.
-
So you know the memory cards.
-
Remember, I was talking to you about memory cards?
-
How your soul has five senses, like you have five senses, but your soul responds when three of them connect, it creates a memory card.
-
And so there are uh God's house actually gives you three memory cards.
-
But your house, here are the two that can't give you taste and smell.
-
We get here, we get touch, sight, sound, but we don't get taste and smell.
-
And both of those live at where?
-
Your house.
-
At your table.
-
Smell is actually the most uh powerful of all of our senses.
-
It's the reason it's wired directly to uh the point in your brain where the memory is stored, and that's why one smell in somebody's kitchen can take you back to being an eight-year-old who's smelling turkey, gravy, apple pie, you're even smelling it now, right?
-
It's just going whoop to the I don't know where it's called.
-
We've got people in this room here and people this weekend that will share with us probably more on that element, but it's powerful.
-
So when someone sits at your table, they hear their name, they see faces, they're glad they came, you hand them a plate, they taste it, they smell it.
-
All five senses can happen in your home.
-
Creating a memory, God's house starts it, your house finishes it.
-
God's house engages, your house closes.
-
So bring it home.
-
That's ministry.
-
Ministry isn't just to end here.
-
Ministry, the kingdom goes from here into your homes, into your community, into your neighborhood, to your friends, to your your your your family.
-
It gathers, it supports, it it cares for each other.
-
Jesus, when he was walking after his resurrection, it's one of the funny stories in scripture where uh Jesus is walking in the evening, he's walking home to Emmaus, and about 11 kilometers out of Jerusalem, uh, he meets some people there that are walking as well, and they're just heartbroken because they heard that Jesus had died.
-
They were sure Jesus was going to change everything, and to find out that he's dead um was really discomforting.
-
And then a stranger, the scripture says, falls in line and begins to walk with them.
-
And of course it's Jesus, spoiler alert.
-
They have no idea it's Jesus.
-
And at the village, after sitting, standing and walking with Jesus all this way, he's gonna keep continue walking, and they they say, Hey, why don't you come in and eat with us?
-
Like you've come a long ways, we've been walking together for a long time, and they were confused, but uh they invited him in, and in Luke chapter 24, they said this they urged him strongly, stay with us.
Luke 24 chapter mention
-
It's nearly evening, the day's almost over.
-
So he went to stay with them, and when he was at their table with them, he took bread and he gave thanks, he broke it, and as soon as he did that, they recognized and their eyes were opened and they knew who he was.
-
Stay with us in Luke 10.
-
Jesus tells his people, go into houses and stay.
-
Luke 24, his people are begging him to stay in their house.
-
That's the heart of the Father.
-
He doesn't just exist here, he's with you wherever you go.
-
He's Emmanuel, God who is with you, God who is with us.
-
So we take him home, we bring him to our home, we bring him and make him the host, we make him the guest, and this is where the grace occurs.
-
Your home can become a place where the kingdom actually comes near.
-
Amen.
-
Would you stand with me for a moment?
-
The harvest is plentiful, Jesus said.
-
Divided them up two by two.
-
You're gonna go, you're gonna build, you're gonna reach people.
-
The workers are few, so go out.
-
Go out, find the work that needs to be done.
-
Pray.
-
Don't take things that will distract you, just go and do the work.
-
Go to homes, go to ordinary places, meet with ordinary people.
-
I love being ordinary.
-
Make a difference in an ordinary space with your life, with your hospitality, with your blessing, go and do it.
-
Father, we thank you today for your spirit that's in this place.
-
Today, Father, we thank you for your peace that rests on us because of you.
-
We thank you for the shalom of God over our life.
-
I pray, Lord, even right now for people who are walking in confusion and distraction and are preoccupied in their mind and are anxious or fearful, Father.
-
We just say in the name of Jesus, we just break, Lord, that spirit that would keep people from appreciating and enjoying and abiding in the peace.
-
You didn't give us a spirit of fear, but you gave us a spirit of love, power, and a sound mind.
-
And so, Father, today we pray that over our congregation, over every soul, over every uh every individual who is here.
-
Peace be on you, peace, the shalom of God be upon you today.
-
May you be ministers, ambassadors of peace, reconciliation, Lord, in in their homes, in their places and spaces that they would occupy today.
-
May they carry peace with them.
-
Even in the middle of the storm, Father, you were the peace.
-
You could bring peace wherever you went, Father.
-
And today, we thank you.
-
You are not only the peace, uh peace provider, you are the peace giver.
-
And Father, you give it to us in with generosity.
-
Thank you for chasing.
-
Us down.
-
You said, Lord, you chase us down.
-
Mercy, grace, following us, overtaking us all the days of our life.
-
We have nothing to be concerned about because our future and our lives are hidden with you.
-
So thank you for the peace, Lord.
-
Thank you for the peace.
-
Father, we pray that as people stay, Lord, may there be a connection not only to one another, but a connection to you.
-
May ministry happen in homes today.
-
This weekend.
-
May there be deep ministry.
-
May people find healing.
-
May people find a sense of purpose and be benefited.
-
And may the blessing of the Lord come upon every home and every individual.
-
In the name of Jesus, new vision, fresh vision, fresh opportunities, new opportunities.
-
Lord, may there be life in the home.
-
The enemy comes to rob, kill, steal, destroy, but you come to impart life and life abundant.
-
We thank you, Father, for your work in our lives, Lord.
-
We thank you.
-
Amen.
-
Maybe you're here today and you're not sure where you stand with God.
-
And here's one of the most surprising verses in the Bible in Revelation, it says, Jesus comes to your door and he knocks.
-
And he actually says, Here I am.
-
I stand at the door and I knock.
-
If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person and they with me.
-
And today I felt that maybe you don't feel worthy.
-
My house is imperfect.
-
My life is ordinary.
-
My life looks simple.
-
I'm not worthy.
-
My past, my history, my experience isn't worthy, and you're ashamed.
-
And Jesus is saying, You don't have to go and find my me.
-
I am here knocking on your door.
-
All you need to do is open and I will come in and eat with you.
-
I will come in and bring my presence with me in your life.
-
If you're here today, perhaps we just take a moment personally.
-
Let's bow our heads, close our eyes.
-
If you're here today and you've never opened that door to Jesus, he's knocking on the door of your heart.
-
He's knocking on your door.
-
He's saying, I'm going to come and eat at your table.
-
I'm going to come into your space and place.
-
And if you've never opened that door before and you want to today, we're going to lead you in a prayer.
-
And together, we're going to pray together and just need an acknowledgement of your hand.
-
If that's you today, just raise it nice and tall, nice and high, and we're going to pray, and then we'll see, we'll see Jesus come in.
-
If there's anyone in this room today, we would never want an opportunity to go amiss.
-
Amen.
-
Let's pray together.
-
Father, I open my heart, I hear your knock, and I open my door, and I welcome you in.
-
I accept you today.
-
I believe that you died on the cross for my sin.
-
And I confess today that I need your help.
-
And I confess that you are my Lord.
-
You are my savior.
-
You are my guest.
-
And I make you my Lord.
-
In Jesus' name.
-
Amen.
-
Amen.
-
Let's give the Lord a round of applause today.
-
We've just got one more moment before we uh release you for some snacks, some uh some Thanksgiving treats.
-
Let's just worship just one last moment here before I finally bless you.
