  1. You're listening to a message to go from Acts Church.

  2. We hope this message will light up your day.

  3. So today, I'm just going to share from this portion

  4. of Scripture taken from Luke 5, verse 1 to 11.

    Luke 5:1–11

  5. And I think this story is no stranger to many

  6. of us. So I'm just going to read this portion

  7. of Scripture from New Living Translation. The translation. Yep. Okay,

  8. the NLT translation. So, Luke 5, verse 1. One day,

    Luke 5:1

  9. as Jesus was preaching on the shore of Sea of Galilee,

  10. great crowds pressed in on Him to listen to the

  11. Word of God. He noticed two empty boats at the

  12. water edge, for the fishermen had left them and were

  13. washing their nets. Stepping into one of the boats, Jesus

  14. asked Simon, its owner, to push it out into the water.

  15. So He sat in the boat and taught the crowds

  16. from there.

  17. When he has finished speaking, he said to Simon, Now,

  18. go out where it is deeper and let down your

  19. nets to catch some fish. Simon replied, Master, we worked

  20. hard all last night and didn't catch a thing. But

  21. if you say so, I'll let the nets down again.

  22. And this time, their nets were so full of fish

  23. they began to tear. A shout for help brought their partners.

  24. In the other boat.

  25. And soon, both boats were filled with fish and on

  26. the verge of sinking. When Simon Peter realised what had happened,

  27. he fell to his knees before Jesus and said, Oh Lord,

  28. please leave me. I'm such a sinful man. For he

  29. was all struck by the number of fish they had caught,

  30. as were the others with him. His partners James and John,

  31. the sons of Zebedee, were also amazed. Jesus replied to Simon,

  32. Don't be afraid.

  33. From now on, you'll be fishing for people. And as

  34. soon as.

  35. They landed, they left everything and followed Jesus.

  36. Amen.

  37. May God bless the reading of His word. Okay, so yeah.

  38. So we all know about this story about Jesus went

  39. into Peter's boat and He started.

  40. You know, teaching the people.

  41. Okay, so I want you to picture yourself as a

  42. fisherman coming home at sunrise, your backache, you know, your

  43. hand raw from the ropes because, you know, fishing is

  44. no easy feat unless it's the, you know, with the

  45. joran thingy.

  46. Okay, that one probably easier.

  47. But a pure fisherman, you know, you need to toss

  48. the net, pull back to see if there are fish

  49. or not, toss and pull back.

  50. It's a lot of hard work.

  51. Okay, and then your boat smells of seawater because of

  52. all the different dirts that you bring in from the sea. Yet,

  53. when you come back to the shore, your boat is empty.

  54. You know, you work hard all night, your boat is empty.

  55. Okay?

  56. This is what happened to Peter. He did everything right.

  57. He was at the right lake. He was using the

  58. right nets. He was at the right hour because that

  59. is the hour of fishing. Still, he caught nothing.

  60. Okay?

  61. So, when he reached the shore, there was just another

  62. morning that Simon Peter experienced. And it was the same morning,

  63. Jesus walked along the shore of Gennesaret, okay?

  64. And that is what happened to him. So bring it

  65. back to us.

  66. So if we are honest enough, many of us will

  67. sometimes understand the feeling of you have worked so hard,

  68. but you don't see the fruit of it.

  69. Very discouraging, right?

  70. So, you know, when it comes to church, you have

  71. served so well, you prayed, you sung, and you faithfully

  72. attend church and homes, yet your nets feel empty.

  73. Okay? We are busy, but we are not fruitful. Okay?

  74. Or maybe at your work, you have worked so hard.

  75. You have planned your meetings so hard. You have planned

  76. your proposals so hard. You know, you work late nights,

  77. you burn midnight oil. only to not receive any fruit

  78. in return, okay? So imagine yourself as that, okay? So

  79. when I was reading this portion of scripture, few things

  80. caught my attention, okay? Before I go into what we're

  81. going to share today, I'm just going to tell you

  82. basically this whole passage, what caught my attention. The first

  83. thing that caught my attention was this. The people are

  84. hungry for.

  85. The Word, okay? Okay?

  86. Because it started off by saying, the multitude pressed about

  87. Him to hear the Word of God.

  88. Okay?

  89. The great crowd pressed on to Jesus because they want

  90. to listen to the Word of God. They follow Jesus.

  91. They press in for more. They just wanted more for

  92. the Word. They didn't go to Jesus. No, Jesus, I

  93. want more of the bread. I want more of a show.

  94. I want more of, you know, different kind of things. No,

  95. they want more of the Word. And then what happened? Because,

  96. you know, Jesus already done so many things, right? And

  97. the crowd can't impress on him. He can always ignore

  98. them and just walk away, right? You know, his disciple

  99. can always like, you know, no, no, no, like bodyguard

  100. like that. No, don't come near Jesus and he can

  101. just walk away. But did he? He did not. He

  102. did not ignore the crowd. He did not send them away. Instead,

  103. he found a way to teach them.

  104. Okay?

  105. He showed compassion to the people. He made room for them.

  106. And this is exactly like when we read in Mark 6,

    Mark 6:34

  107. verse 34, where Jesus was moved with compassion for the people.

  108. Because when He looked at the people, what He sees

  109. is that they are like a bunch of sheep without

  110. a shepherd.

  111. Okay?

  112. So He was moved with compassion and He began to

  113. teach them. And that is what I call the second point.

  114. And then, the third point that I caught was this.

  115. Jesus uses whatever that is available. He was walking at

  116. the shore and then what was available? Two empty boats

  117. and some tired fishermen washing their nets. And Jesus used them, okay? So,

  118. the tool that God can use can be anything. God

  119. can use anyone. Just like Moses, okay? God asked him,

  120. what is in your hand? He only have a rod.

  121. And with the rod, he parted the Red Sea. You know,

  122. when the 5,000 people are hungry, what did they have there?

  123. The little boy with the five loaves and two fish.

  124. And just like what Peter have, he has the boat, right?

  125. All we need to do is to make ourselves and

  126. whatever we have available to be used by God. So

  127. all of us have something, what? Okay, don't say that, yeah,

  128. I got nothing, God won't use me one. No, all

  129. of us have something. Okay, so the things that we have,

  130. whether it's big or small, is that whether are we

  131. willing to be used by God.

  132. Okay, and then next is that.

  133. If we read the New King James Version, okay, when

  134. Jesus got on the boat, He told Simon to put

  135. out a little from the land, basically to just roll

  136. slightly further away from the shore. Now, when Jesus used

  137. what Peter made available, he took him out a little,

  138. but still within his comfort zone.

  139. That is what I caught.

  140. Okay, so the boat, the shore is only a little,

  141. not so far away from the shore. So that is

  142. still very much a comfort zone, not yet to the

  143. working zone, not yet to the danger zone. It's a

  144. working zone. So at the comfort zone, Peter could still

  145. see what's going on at the shore. Okay, now the

  146. question is, why did Jesus ask him to go out

  147. a little?

  148. Okay, maybe.

  149. I know that, you know, sometimes some of the preacher

  150. that we have heard is that, you know, for Jesus

  151. to preach to the crowd, he needs to go a

  152. little and then use the sea, you know, to magnify

  153. his voice projection so that.

  154. Everyone can hear. I'm not going to talk about science.

  155. I'm going to talk about spiritual understanding here.

  156. Okay? When I read this, this is what caught my mind.

  157. Okay?

  158. So, he asked.

  159. Peter to go a little bit further away, basically is

  160. to tell him, I'm not asking you to do your job.

  161. I want you to be with me. Okay? So that,

  162. Peter can still hear what Jesus got to teach.

  163. He is in the boat. He is with Jesus. Basically,

  164. Peter has the front row seat with Jesus.

  165. Okay?

  166. So, Peter get to hear exactly, loud and clear, what

  167. Jesus got to teach. So, When I read this, right,

  168. this caught my attention. Sometimes we think, right, when we

  169. offer our talents to God, you know, we thought that,

  170. you know, we are just doing God a favour to

  171. be used as a tool so that others can hear

  172. the Word of God. So imagine, I'm being used by

  173. God to stand here today to preach the gospel. I

  174. can always think from this perspective. I am preaching here

  175. so that all of you can hear the Word of God. Right?

  176. But many times, when I prepare the Word of God,

  177. I hear it first. I get ministered first. That is

  178. what God wants us to do. When God uses us

  179. as a vessel, He wants us to hear the Word

  180. of God first, to be ministered to it first. So

  181. Peter has the closest seat and he gets ministered first.

  182. Okay? So that is what I caught.

  183. And then, of course, last but not least, after hearing

  184. the Word of Jesus, That is where the challenge comes.

  185. So at first, it was just a comfort zone.

  186. After hearing the word, what did Jesus say?

  187. Peter, let's go home. Did He say that? No, right?

  188. After He finished teaching, He told Peter, okay, now let's

  189. launch out into the deep and let down your nets

  190. for a catch. Peter must be thinking, what say? I

  191. already like whole night so tired already. I already pinjam

  192. you my boat. Then now you want to show me

  193. go fishing? Okay, you want to bring me, ask me

  194. to go fishing? Okay, of course not. You know, a

  195. little from the land just now was just a preparation

  196. for Peter.

  197. The deep was the test for Peter.

  198. And once we hear the word of God, that is

  199. where God invites us to act on it. Okay, so God,

  200. when every Sunday we come, we hear the word of God,

  201. that is preparation. Okay, here in the house of God

  202. is the preparation. Our test is the moment we step

  203. out from the door. Okay, so in Luke chapter 5 here,

    Luke 5 chapter mention

  204. it shows a very clear journey of Peter's life. First,

  205. he encountered Jesus. Then he heard the word, he obeyed

  206. the word, and he was sent with the word. Okay?

  207. When we read this whole.

  208. Portion of Scripture, right, a lot of times we are

  209. so caught with the part where, you know, wow, the miracle,

  210. Peter went out to the deep because he told God,

  211. because he said to God, you know, since you asked

  212. me to go out, nevertheless, at your word, I will,

  213. you know, I will put.

  214. Down the net.

  215. And then he caught a great fish. Wow, you know,

  216. such a miracle. We always stop there, okay? But do

  217. you know that the miracle was not the destination? The

  218. miracle became the catalyst for his mission. When faith is activated,

  219. growth takes place. And when we grow in Christ, we

  220. ought to become the witnesses for Christ.

  221. I titled my sermon.

  222. Today as Faith Activated. And I want everyone to activate

  223. your faith this morning. And I want to show you

  224. that maybe you feel that your boat is empty. Okay,

  225. maybe you feel that, you know, wow, I've done so much,

  226. but I don't see any miracle. You know, sometimes you

  227. felt so empty that, you know, you start to begin

  228. to die inside. And this morning, I just want to

  229. encourage you to, you know, don't let it rot inside.

  230. But open up your heart and let Jesus to come

  231. into your boat and allow Him to cause a revival

  232. within you. Because revival happens when Jesus gets into our boat.

  233. And that is when our faith will be stirred. Our

  234. faith will be activated. And then God will launch us

  235. out to do great things.

  236. Okay?

  237. So faith activated. Okay?

  238. My points, not very creative, and I titled my points

  239. as very simple. If you cannot remember everything I say,

  240. just remember these three points.

  241. Hear it, do it, share it. Okay? Very simple, right?

  242. Children can remember also. Okay? Alright, so the first one, hearing.

  243. Hearing. hear it, okay? Faith requires hearing. Is it only hearing? No,

  244. it requires obedience as well. So, we read this scripture,

  245. we notice that before the miracles can happen, before the

  246. revival within Peter can happen, it all begins with.

  247. The hunger for the Word of God, okay?

  248. The people pressed into Jesus, you know, for more of

  249. the Word of God. Let me ask you, when was

  250. the last time you press into Jesus and say that, Lord,

  251. I want to hear from you. Not just, you know,

  252. scrolling past the Bible verses in your, what do you

  253. call that, in your tablet. Not like just simply flip

  254. through your Bible and, oh, I saw what I highlighted

  255. three years.

  256. Ago and then I read that. No, it's not that. Okay,

  257. but truly sitting down and listen. Listen.

  258. You know, when the people press into Jesus, right? They

  259. crowd around Jesus, right? They didn't ask Jesus, you know,

  260. for healing. He didn't ask Jesus for, you know, bread.

  261. You know, they didn't ask Jesus for a show. What

  262. they want is the deeper hunger that is within them,

  263. which is for the Word of God. And the people

  264. are so hungry that Jesus stopped and shared.

  265. Okay?

  266. He didn't tell the people like, you know, you come

  267. back another time, you know, this is a beach, you know,

  268. how am I going to share? You know, the wave

  269. is going to be so loud. Maybe you find me

  270. a stadium, okay? And then you send a proper invitation,

  271. you email to jesus at jesus.com, then my PA will

  272. look through and then I will come and share. I

  273. think my calendar will be free, I think two days later.

  274. Did Jesus do that? No, He didn't. Okay, He spoke

  275. in ordinary places.

  276. Sometimes we thought, I want to hear from God. Maybe

  277. this Sunday, I go to church, only God will speak

  278. to me. No, God doesn't do that. Or maybe you

  279. say that, even I come to Plaza OSK, also I

  280. cannot hear God. Maybe I should go for that revival

  281. conference that got 8,000 people.

  282. Maybe I go there, I will hear God. No.

  283. Do you know that God can also speak to you

  284. even in your bathroom? Not only in church, not only

  285. in stadium. You know, God speaks in ordinary places.

  286. And it's shown.

  287. He borrowed Peter's boat, which is his place of work,

  288. his place of routine, his place of failure.

  289. You know, for a fisherman to come back from.

  290. The sea not catching a single ikan bilis, that is failure.

  291. But that is the exact place God used. God used

  292. his place.

  293. Of work routine and failure and he turned it into

  294. a pulpit to preach.

  295. Is it only to the congregation? No, to Peter as well.

  296. So before the boat can become a place of miracle,

  297. it has to become a place of teaching. And Peter

  298. had to sit and listen before he can ask to act.

  299. You know, in this abandonment, he got to hear what

  300. Jesus is going to teach. God still speaks in our

  301. boat today. So what is your boat? Maybe to a

  302. full-time mum, your boat is the kitchen or maybe the

  303. laundry area. Maybe to some of us who have to

  304. stuck in a traffic jam for three hours every day

  305. to go to office, that could be your boat.

  306. Maybe some of.

  307. You, you know, have been working hard in your office

  308. and you still don't see any, you.

  309. Know, accomplishment. That is your boat.

  310. Or maybe those of you who are studying, your classroom

  311. could be your boat. Right? Our ordinary life is where

  312. Jesus wants to teach us. Let me ask you, Jesus

  313. wants to use our boat today. But are you too

  314. busy to attend to Jesus' request? Are you trying very

  315. hard to fill up your own boat, you know, with

  316. your own strength? Are you willing to put aside your

  317. busy schedule just to stop and hear what God's going

  318. to say? Are you willing to build an altar before

  319. the Lord at your boat, you know, so that God

  320. can show up and show off? So Romans 10, 17

  321. tells us that faith comes by hearing and hearing the

  322. word of God. So Peter heard the word. Peter had

  323. to hear the word before he acted. And this tells

  324. us that faith begins when we encounter God and what

  325. He has to say. We cannot activate a faith that

  326. we never receive. Faith is not self-generated.

  327. Remember that? It is God-generated through His word.

  328. And faith begins with hearing God's word. And faith is

  329. not believing that everything will work out. It is trusting

  330. because God God has spoken.

  331. Okay?

  332. So Hebrews 11 verse 6 says, But without faith, it

    Hebrews 11:6

  333. is impossible to please Him. For he who comes to

  334. God must believe that He is and that He is

  335. a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. So in

  336. these two scriptures, it tells us that hearing the word

  337. of God teaches us two things. Number one, who God is.

  338. And then, he responds to those who seek him. So

  339. when this whole story.

  340. Right, we realize that.

  341. Before Peter encountered Jesus, he technically only know that, you know,

  342. Jesus does miracles, he teach and so on and so forth.

  343. But after hearing Jesus' teaching, he trusted his word. He

  344. trusted it so much that he called Jesus Master. You know,

  345. it's just like the children here that has not been

  346. taught by me, they will call me Auntie Nana. But

  347. after I teach them already, what will they call me?

  348. Teacher Nana.

  349. Okay, so it's the same thing. Before Peter know who

  350. Jesus was, he probably would just say that, oh, he

  351. is a man, you know, that does miracle. But after

  352. he heard from him, he hear his teaching, okay, he

  353. started calling him master. Okay, revival starts when people begin

  354. to hear God's again, God's word again. Not just merely

  355. hearing sermon or attending church or knowing scripture, but hearing

  356. God with a heart that is ready to trust and respond. So,

  357. are we ready to respond after hearing the word of God?

  358. James 1.22 says, do not merely listen to the word,

  359. and so deceive yourself. Do what it says. This is

  360. from NIV version.

  361. Okay?

  362. But some translation will say this. Don't just be a hearer,

  363. but be a doer of the word.

  364. A doer, okay?

  365. A doer is an action, okay? So does a doer

  366. just stand and do nothing?

  367. No.

  368. A doer moves, okay? So you have heard God. What's next?

  369. You need to move, okay? If you want to experience

  370. the supernatural at your boat today, you have to move.

  371. And that is what we need to do next.

  372. Do it, okay? Faith requires action.

  373. So after hearing the word, we read just now, Jesus

  374. told Simon to go into the deep, which is the challenge,

  375. and to let down the nets for a catch. Now,

  376. to an experienced fisherman, okay, any fisherman here, you may

  377. correct me if I am wrong. Okay, so apparently, to

  378. a fisherman, this make no sense. Okay, on a daytime,

  379. to go into the deep water and to put down

  380. the net, For a catch.

  381. Okay? Because why? Fishermen usually they catch at night. Okay?

  382. In shallow water. Not in broad daylight in the deep. Okay?

  383. So, when I read this, right, I was also a

  384. bit curious. Why Peter has to go at night for fishing? Right?

  385. Usually people fish in daytime. Then only you can see

  386. how big your fish is. Why fishermen go and catch

  387. fish at night? So this is what I found on google.com. Okay,

  388. so there are a few reasons why fishermen catch fish

  389. at night. Number one is the temperature shift. So during

  390. the day, the sun heats the surface of the water.

  391. driving the fish to go deeper to stay cool. But

  392. at night, the surface temperature drops and then the fish

  393. will move into the shallow water to feed and putting

  394. them right where fishermen cast their line. Because, you know, fishermen,

  395. they don't use the fishing rod. That one can go

  396. deep water, but the net cannot go too deep. So

  397. it has to be caught in the... You know, when

  398. the fish is higher up, that's easier for them to catch.

  399. So that is one, temperature shift. Second one is the

  400. line invisibility, which I think this one is quite common sense. Okay.

  401. In the daytime, fish can see the net. Of course,

  402. they run away from the net. At night, they are blind.

  403. They cannot see. I don't know, okay?

  404. If Ming Jo here, she probably will tell me, no,

  405. fish are not blind, okay?

  406. So at night, in the sea, it's dark, okay? They

  407. can't see.

  408. So thick and heavy fishing line and hardware that could

  409. easily spook a caution fish in broad daylight become virtually

  410. invisible at night, making fish much likely to strike the bait.

  411. So that's why fishermen catch fish at night.

  412. So, for Jesus to tell Simon to go out in

  413. broad daylight, someone in the deep, using the net to

  414. catch fish, Simon Peter must be thinking, Siao ah, you know,

  415. at this hour, where.

  416. Can catch fish? Okay? So Jesus was not asking Simon

  417. Peter to try harder. Okay? At what he had been

  418. doing all night.

  419. He was just asking him, trust my word and go

  420. against your own experience.

  421. That is what Jesus is asking Peter to do.

  422. So this was an act of faith on Peter's part.

  423. Okay. So why is it an act of faith? Because why?

  424. Faith often asks us to do what logic resists.

  425. Okay.

  426. Like for example, someone, you know, offend you, cause you

  427. in deep trouble. And then what did the Bible tells you?

  428. Forgive the person. Then it was like, Forgive this person

  429. caused me, you know, millions, lost in millions.

  430. You want me to forgive? Impossible. Okay?

  431. Logic resists to ask you to give to someone whom, wow,

  432. just bought a new car, a new house, and God,

  433. you want me to give to this person?

  434. Are you sure?

  435. Okay? Logic resists to ask you to speak against, you know,

  436. a corruption example.

  437. Okay?

  438. And that makes, cause you to go into deeper trouble

  439. if you speak up.

  440. Okay?

  441. Faith also go against logic in which ask you to

  442. resign your work and go into full-time missions. And then

  443. you are saying that, Lord, my bank is zero. I

  444. got a whole list of bills to pay. And then

  445. you want me to go to missions and then don't

  446. take salary. And then, how am I going to pay?

  447. You know? This is what all faith asks us to do, okay?

  448. Where logic resists.

  449. And we cannot comprehend the reason behind, yet we are

  450. told to follow. And that is exactly what Hebrews 11 says.

  451. Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence

  452. of things not seen. So faith begins when we encounter

  453. what God has said, even when we cannot see what

  454. God is going to do. So that is what faith

  455. is all about. So when that happens, Peter did not

  456. know what would happen. But because he has heard the word,

  457. he acted.

  458. Okay?

  459. And how we know that he, he don't know what

  460. happened and then he acted is when he said this

  461. to Jesus. Master, we worked hard all last night and

  462. didn't catch a thing.

  463. Okay? Didn't catch a thing. Not even a ikan bilis.

  464. Okay?

  465. Anchovies. Okay?

  466. But, If you say so, some translations say nevertheless. But

  467. I like this one taken from NLT. If you say so,

  468. I'll let the nets down again. It goes against all

  469. his experience. It goes against all his understanding. He goes

  470. against everything. And he says, Jesus, if you say so,

  471. I will do it. So this is the turning point

  472. of the story. A lot of times when we look

  473. at this statement that Peter told Jesus, right, we only

  474. saw the word, if you say so, nevertheless. But do

  475. you see the statement before he said, if you say so,

  476. we have worked hard all last night and didn't catch

  477. a thing. Peter was honest with Jesus about his exhaustion.

  478. He was honest enough with his doubt and he didn't

  479. fight back. He can by all means fight with Jesus one. No, Jesus,

  480. let me tell you, it's the time of the season

  481. where the fish will not come one. You see, at night,

  482. so cold, the fish also don't want to come to

  483. the surface. You know, I spent the whole night trying

  484. to find the fish, you know, I cannot catch. You know,

  485. I already tried two, three nights already, still cannot catch fish.

  486. You sure or not, if I go to the deep,

  487. I can catch? He can by all means say that.

  488. Wish all of us say that, right? You know, every

  489. time when Jesus asks us to do something, we always

  490. use our logic, our experience, our.

  491. expertise to fight and argue. But Peter did not. He obeyed.

  492. Okay?

  493. So faith isn't the absence of questions. We can still

  494. tell God, you know, Lord, I've tried all this. You know,

  495. I'm tired. But okay lah, if you say so, I

  496. will do it. So faith is obedience in spite of them.

  497. So what we see here is that Peter is not

  498. just a hearer.

  499. He was a doer.

  500. So Peter could have enjoyed the whole teaching from his

  501. book and gone home to sleep, which many of us

  502. do exactly the same every Sunday, right? But he did not.

  503. He continued on, okay? He continued on to obey what

  504. Jesus had to say, okay? And, you know, that is

  505. what exactly we learn here. how he responded to Jesus

  506. is how James wants us to respond as well. In

  507. James chapter 1, verse 23 to 24, it says, for

    James 1:23–24

  508. if you listen to the word and don't obey, it

  509. is like glancing at your face in a mirror. You

  510. see yourself, your face is dirty, but you walk away

  511. without washing it. Okay? And then you've forgotten that your

  512. face is actually dirty. So isn't that self-deception? So if

  513. Peter were to tell Jesus that, Jesus, I'm tired. I

  514. will do what you tell me to do tomorrow. Maybe

  515. tomorrow I will go into the deep when I'm well

  516. rested tonight. And then tomorrow morning only I'll go into

  517. the deep. He can by all means tell Jesus that,

  518. but he didn't, okay? He immediately acted on it. So

  519. revival is not measured only by how loudly we say amen,

  520. you know, to every word that we hear or to

  521. every prayer that was mentioned, but revival is measured by

  522. how quickly we obey. So James 2, verse 17 also

    James 2:17

  523. reminds us that faith itself, if it's not accompanied by action,

  524. it is dead. And Hebrews 11, okay? You know, Hebrews 11,

  525. we all know. Hebrews 11 is the whole story of the.

  526. Heroes of faith, right?

  527. Every time we want to find where are all the

  528. heroes of faith, we always turn to Hebrew 11, okay?

  529. And they are the heroes of faith in action. They

  530. are not being called the heroes of faith for nothing.

  531. They acted on their faith. So by faith, Abel offered.

  532. It's an action. By faith, Noah built.

  533. It's an action.

  534. By faith, Abraham went. It's an action.

  535. By faith, Moses chose. Okay, it's an action. By faith,

  536. Israel walked. If there is no action, there is no

  537. living faith. What would be your fifth action work today?

  538. What is God asking you to do that requires action?

  539. That you have been telling God, wait lah God, not yet.

  540. Wait lah, or maybe, you know, God, ask the person

  541. beside me. You know, you want me to go and

  542. plant another church plant? No, send Timothy. You want me

  543. to plant, you know, you want me to plant another home? No,

  544. send Elaine.

  545. Okay.

  546. Or maybe, yeah, you know, or you want me to,

  547. you know, go and reach out to this bunch of

  548. children in the children's house on a Saturday morning.

  549. Aiyo, I'm tired, very sleepy. Okay, John got three kids already.

  550. Send John.

  551. Right? Right?

  552. Is it faith about other people's action work.

  553. Or your own action work? Okay?

  554. Remember that faith is demonstrated through obedience. Your obedience is

  555. not to obey by sending other people. It's your own obedience.

  556. And obedience is never wasted one. You obey God and

  557. do know that your obedience will never go in waste.

  558. When we obey, we see miracles. Whatever we read in

  559. the Bible, right? It's not just story.

  560. It's real. It happened.

  561. It happened yesterday, today, and it will happen again and again.

  562. So Peter's obedience led him to a great catch. Do

  563. you want to experience the abundance in your life today?

  564. If you want, you need to stop to listen to God.

  565. And when you hear from God, you need to obey

  566. what you have heard. So sometimes God will ask you

  567. to do the extraordinary. Don't think that you have heard

  568. it wrongly. So you just need to pray and ask

  569. God to show. And when God speaks or impresses upon

  570. your heart, and when you check it through against the

  571. Word of God, it will be there.

  572. And it will never, you know, go against the Word

  573. of God.

  574. Amen? So.

  575. You have heard the word. You have obeyed. Okay? You

  576. will receive the miracle. Okay?

  577. So maybe some of you who have heard it, who

  578. have done it, you have seen the miracle. You have

  579. reaped the benefit. You have, you know, reaped the miracles.

  580. And you stop there. Right? So what I wanted to

  581. share this morning is that, you know, every testimony that

  582. you have received, don't stop there. Don't keep it to yourself.

  583. you need to share it.

  584. So that is why I put.

  585. Under the share it there, from miracle to missions. So

  586. the miracles that we receive, right, it's not for us

  587. to keep. Okay, so reading from Luke chapter 5, 6

    Luke 5 chapter mention

  588. to 7, it says this, And this time their nets

  589. were so full of fish, they began to tear.

  590. That is the miracle. A great catch.

  591. So what did Peter do? Did he say that, eh,

  592. this one ah, I susah payah ah, catch so hard.

  593. So all these fish, I don't care. I just want

  594. everything to myself. Did he say that? No.

  595. He shout for help.

  596. Yeah.

  597. He shout for.

  598. Help and brought their partners in the other boat. Soon,

  599. both boats were filled with fish and on the verge

  600. of sinking. Peter can by all means say that, yeah,

  601. I obey Jesus, Ma. I go into, you know, go

  602. into the deep sea and I catch all this, you know.

  603. It's all going to be mine.

  604. Even if I have to let loose the rest that

  605. I couldn't get into my boat, I'm just going to

  606. keep it to my boat.

  607. He didn't.

  608. He called out to his partner. He tells his partners.

  609. They share the miracle together. Okay? It is the same lake,

  610. same net, same fisherman. The only difference was what? His

  611. obedience to Jesus and hence he saw this miracle. So

  612. when faith is activated, growth takes place. And his growth

  613. was in the form of the abundance that he got.

  614. When one boat cannot hold, he called for the other

  615. one and it got everything that God wants to give

  616. it to them. So the catch was bigger than Peter

  617. could handle alone. So what happened here was that after

  618. the miraculous catch, Peter's first response was not to celebrate.

  619. Okay, the scripture didn't say that, you know.

  620. After the great catch, Peter started to say that, whoa,

  621. what a great fishing strategy. Tomorrow, I want to have

  622. another great catch. Maybe I should ask Jesus again. Hey, Jesus,

  623. what was the strategy that you used yesterday that caused

  624. me to have such an abundance? Lord, okay, tomorrow, I

  625. want to go for another catch. You know, maybe you

  626. must tell me the strategy. Did Peter do that?

  627. No.

  628. Luke 5, verse 8, it continues on with this, where Peter,

    Luke 5:8

  629. Simon realised. Okay?

  630. He realised he saw the miracle. What he did?

  631. He fell to his knees before Jesus and said, Oh Lord,

  632. please leave me. I'm such a sinful man.

  633. He repented.

  634. So he moved from earlier on, hearing the teaching, he

  635. called him Master. Now he experienced the supernatural, he called

  636. him Lord. His encounter bring him to a place of,

  637. number one, repentance because he fell down on his knee

  638. and said that, Lord, leave me. I'm a sinful man.

  639. And then he humbled himself. He didn't say that, oh,

  640. I found a fishing guru. I'm just going to keep him.

  641. No.

  642. He called him Lord.

  643. You know, he made him to come into such humility

  644. and humble himself. Okay?

  645. So true revival doesn't just make us excited. It makes

  646. us humble.

  647. It reveals the holiness of Jesus and our need for Him.

  648. So when we go to a revival service or revival

  649. conference or whatsoever, we experience the revival.

  650. Don't just let that get us excited.

  651. Let the revival that we experience get us humble, get

  652. us down on our knees and say that Jesus forgive

  653. us of our trespasses and then we forgive those who

  654. trespass against us.

  655. Because why?

  656. The revival that we experience is just revealed to us

  657. how much we need Him. So what God start in

  658. us may eventually become bigger than us. The miracle that

  659. Peter encountered did not remain personal. It didn't remain just

  660. with Peter. It created an overflow to the people that

  661. is around him. And the miracle that Peter experienced gave

  662. birth to a revival within him. And real growth always

  663. draws others in. So remember that, you know, revival is

  664. not a solo event. You go to a revival service,

  665. you receive the revival, it's not for you to keep.

  666. is supposed to create and overflow. So when Peter went

  667. down on his knee, so did Jesus say, yeah, you

  668. should repent?

  669. Did Jesus say that?

  670. No. You know, our God, our Jesus is very compassionate.

  671. So Jesus did not leave Peter in his guilt. He

  672. lifted him and gave him a mission.

  673. Right? Because that is what we read next. He gave

  674. him a mission. Okay? So the missions that Jesus gave

  675. him is this.

  676. You know, don't be afraid. From now on, you will

  677. be fishers of men. You will be fishing for people.

  678. So revival that stays inside the four walls of the

  679. church is incomplete.

  680. We pray for revival. We want revival.

  681. When revival comes and we keep it within the four walls,

  682. that is incomplete. it has not achieved the goal that

  683. God has planned for that revival. So the ultimate goal

  684. of revival is evangelism, which is to reach out to people,

  685. to bring the message of hope, the message of love,

  686. out from these four walls of church. So that is

  687. why we pray for revival, so that the fire that

  688. is within us, that we carry, will not just burn

  689. within us, the house of God, but it will burn outside.

  690. So that it can.

  691. Continue to spark fire everywhere we go. We will continue

  692. to plant seed, the Word of God, into people who

  693. need to hear the Word of God. Remember how we started.

  694. People are hungry for the Word of God. You may

  695. not know it, but people are hungry to hear the

  696. Word of God. But we are not sharing it. So today,

  697. I just wanted to let everyone know is that, you know,

  698. every testimony that you have, every miracle that God has

  699. given to you, that is the catalyst of your mission.

  700. That is your ultimate goal.

  701. The miracle of the fish was pointing towards a greater calling,

  702. fishing for people. You know, the story is not to

  703. tell us that Jesus is a good fisherman strategist. But

  704. the story is to tell us that when God brings

  705. us the abundance, when God gives us the testimony, it's

  706. not for us to keep it within ourselves. Sometimes the

  707. testimony may feel small in our own eyes. But I

  708. just want to tell all of us, no testimony that

  709. is too small that cannot be shared. Every testimony that

  710. we have, it always bring a message to hope to

  711. a person that we are sharing to.

  712. So always remember that. Okay?

  713. So when Jesus replied to Simon, do not be afraid

  714. from now on you'll be fishing for people. What did

  715. Peter and his friend do after that? They pulled their

  716. boat up to the shore, they left everything and they

  717. followed Jesus. They are being made fishers of men. They

  718. themselves is a changed life now. Matthew 4, verse 19 says,

    Matthew 4:19

  719. Follow me and I will make you fishers of men.

  720. So what I'm going to tell you.

  721. Is that the mission that Jesus gave to Peter is

  722. the same mission Jesus is giving to us now. Jesus

  723. will make us fishers of men. And all of us

  724. are called to be fishers of men. What our job

  725. is to do? Our job is to follow Him so

  726. that we will know exactly what He wants us to do.

  727. So encountering Jesus leads us to growth. Growth changes our priorities.

  728. So Peters have the, you know, have the greatest catch

  729. in his whole career. In his resume, he will probably

  730. write that, you know, my greatest catch was how many fishes.

  731. Okay?

  732. But yeah, that could be his, you know, the most high,

  733. the top achievement in his whole career as a fisherman.

  734. But the moment he encountered Jesus, it became less important.

  735. Because you saw what happened next. He left everything and

  736. he followed Jesus. So when we want to grow in Christ,

  737. when we want to experience the revival within us in

  738. our life, we should not let all these worldly things

  739. to hold us tight. And we should not also hold

  740. it so tight that we cannot let go. Once you

  741. encounter God, once you hear His word, you'll realise that

  742. all these worldly possessions is only for this lifetime.

  743. You cannot bring it to you to eternity.

  744. But the abundance of the spiritual gift that God's going

  745. to give to us, it's the very thing that we

  746. will be able to bring it with us into eternity.

  747. So.

  748. The abundance that brings you to God, you know, the

  749. abundance that God brings to you should not stop at yourself.

  750. Let it flow. Let it flow.

  751. God bless you in different areas. Some of you, God

  752. bless you with your talent. Some of you, God bless

  753. you with finances. Some of you, God bless you with time.

  754. There will be people that's around you that will come

  755. to you that will ask a piece of you. You know,

  756. a piece of your time. A piece of your you know, money,

  757. maybe a piece of your talent.

  758. You know, I don't know.

  759. I don't know what your friends are asking you today.

  760. But what you can offer, you know, you offer. Because

  761. that is the very thing that will bring hope to

  762. the person. You know, sometimes the things that you use

  763. to bless others, sometimes your friends will also be wondering, eh,

  764. You are already so busy.

  765. You don't even have time to even eat a proper meal.

  766. Why is it that at one phone call to you,

  767. you immediately come out to see me?

  768. You know? Sometimes people cannot comprehend.

  769. Sometimes people will wonder, you know, like, you know, you

  770. probably don't earn much. Example, um, And then you have

  771. a long bills to pay. You have parents to take care.

  772. And then here your friends come to you running saying that,

  773. you know, Kelvin, I need help. I have this, you know,

  774. my mom admitted to hospital and I'm short of 200.

  775. To pay the bills. Do you think you have some

  776. to pay? Help me to pay. Loan it to me.

  777. I'll pay you next month. And Kelvin said, yeah, sure.

  778. And then in his mind, he started calculating.

  779. Okay, $ 200.

  780. That is for my phone bill. How am I going

  781. to pay for my phone bill? But yeah, you just give.

  782. And your friend's mother got saved because of that $ 200 example. Okay?

  783. You know, because he needs to pay the bill probably

  784. for a surgery or whatsoever. But because of your kindness,

  785. your generosity, the mom is saved. And because of that,

  786. your friend came and asked, you needed to pay your bill,

  787. but you paid my mom's bill first. Why? It opened

  788. doors for you to share the gospel. So sometimes we

  789. may not have a lot. You may have an empty boat.

  790. But that is the very empty boat that God is using.

  791. So even as I draw to a close, maybe I

  792. can invite the extreme team to come up.

  793. Revival is not the end.

  794. Okay?

  795. Revival is not the end. It is the beginning.

  796. Okay? Sometimes we feel that, yeah, I experienced the revival already.

  797. I experienced the abundance already. Okay lah, my life is revived.

  798. That's it. No. Okay?

  799. If at all you forget, always remember Jesus' last commandment

  800. towards us. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations.

  801. All of us have a mission. And our mission is

  802. to reach out to as many people as possible. I

  803. can stand here today I can tell you is because

  804. someone reached out to me. I'm not from a Christian family.

  805. None of my family members are believers. But because someone

  806. spent time sharing about her testimony to me, someone spent

  807. time reaching out to me, someone spent time telling me

  808. that the Bible is a very nice storybook.

  809. And because of that, I get to know who Jesus is. Okay? Yeah,

  810. poor Lyra. Okay? Yeah.

  811. But what I wanted to say here is that all

  812. of us is a product of someone's prayer. Perhaps you

  813. say that, yeah, I grew up in a Christian family.

  814. You know, I never experienced what you experienced. But do

  815. you know that you are a product of your parents' prayer?

  816. You may say that, yeah, I grew up in a

  817. Christian family. You know, my parents pray for me, it's normal.

  818. But do you know that every parent prays for their

  819. children's salvation? A salvation, you know, saying yes to Jesus

  820. is not something that your parents force it down your throat.

  821. It is your personal encounter with Jesus.

  822. So if it's not because someone prayed for you, if

  823. it's not because someone shared the word of God with me,

  824. I would not be standing here this morning. And this

  825. someone was my aunt. You know, I only see her

  826. once a year during Chinese New Year. Okay, I'm a

  827. terrible niece. And she was the one that, you know,

  828. encourages me to read storybook. So I read, when I

  829. was young, a lot of storybook. I read until like,

  830. you know, I tell my aunt, I got no more

  831. storybook to read. Then she's like, okay, I will give

  832. you one very bestseller storybook. I said, oh, is it?

  833. I want.

  834. So she gave me a Bible. So I read Genesis.

  835. Very good.

  836. I told her, wow, the story very good. I like

  837. the story. I said, but why the story like, it doesn't,

  838. there is no flow. It's like one story after another.

  839. Then she said, oh yeah, it's a short story. Then,

  840. after Genesis is Exodus. Still very exciting. Then, I read Leviticus.

  841. I'm like, Ayi, what on earth is this story? It

  842. has no storyline. Then she said, never mind, keep on reading.

  843. After Leviticus, I read Numbers. I straight away told her,

  844. I have no idea what this story is about. It's

  845. just teaching me about maths. Then she's like, never mind,

  846. never mind. You turn the storybook to the centre and

  847. then you will see the title there, Matthew, right?

  848. You start reading from there. The story is very nice.

  849. I continue on.

  850. And that's why I told you, if at all, what

  851. story I read the most, Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.

  852. Okay?

  853. So there are the four stories. But because of that,

  854. I learned about Jesus. And because of that, you know, Bible,

  855. English is very deep. And then my English is not

  856. very good. So I asked my auntie, how can I

  857. improve my English? And she said, do you have any

  858. friends that goes to church on Saturday or Sunday? I said, oh,

  859. I have. My best friend goes to church every Saturday.

  860. I don't know why she's so excited about it. But

  861. every time I ask her to go shopping with me,

  862. she tells me she cannot. Then she said, then you

  863. should follow her.

  864. So I went with her.

  865. And then I went, I couldn't understand a single thing

  866. the preacher preached because again, my English not very good. I,

  867. half the time, I look at my friend. What is

  868. the uncle talking there? I don't even know that person

  869. is called uncle.

  870. And then she said that, you just learn. You want

  871. to learn English, right? You learn. So I struggled. I

  872. struggled through.

  873. I can't even read the Bible properly.

  874. But I struggled through.

  875. But the good thing is, God sent an English teacher

  876. within the church. to start to strengthen my English. And

  877. that is where I learned more about the Word of God.

  878. And that is where I started to give my life

  879. to Jesus. So someone shared.

  880. Can you see?

  881. Number one, my aunt shared the best-selling storybook. Second, my

  882. best friend shared about how exciting church was. And then

  883. another leader shared her skills. to equip me with English.

  884. You know, everyone share.

  885. Remember I tell you, there is nothing that is too

  886. small that you cannot use it, you know, to share.

  887. So we can experience God's presence and still stop. But

  888. when we receive a fresh touch, we need to reach people.

  889. So we can attend everything, you know, from revival meetings

  890. to worship, passionately, to pray fervently. But if revival doesn't

  891. move us towards people, then we are missing the mark.

  892. The miracle that you have received from God today, if

  893. you do not share it, it's a waste. So sometimes

  894. you may be afraid and you may not know how

  895. to activate your faith. You may not know how to

  896. be a witness of Christ.

  897. Don't worry. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you. Because why?

  898. The Holy Spirit is our helper. He is the helper

  899. that Jesus has sent to empower us. I'm not lying

  900. to you because in Acts 1, it says, you will

  901. receive the power when the Holy Spirit comes on you

  902. and you will be my witness in Jerusalem, in all

  903. Judea and Samaria and to the ends of the earth.

  904. So you notice the progression here?

  905. You will receive the power from the Holy Spirit and

  906. then you will be the witness. So the Holy Spirit

  907. does not empower us merely so that we can have

  908. a powerful experience. He empowers us so that we can

  909. continue to be an effective witness. Jesus did not call

  910. Peter to become a better fisherman. Just like Jesus didn't

  911. call me to be a better teacher. Jesus didn't call

  912. you to be a better doctor. Jesus didn't call you

  913. to be a better engineer. Jesus called you to be

  914. a witness, a fisher of men. So Peter mourned began

  915. with an empty boat and ended up with a new calling.

  916. So what is your empty boat this morning? And what

  917. is God calling you to do? So revival starts when

  918. one ordinary believer hears God, obeys God and tells someone

  919. about God. So the same Jesus that stepped into Peter's

  920. empty boat is stepping into yours today. So the only

  921. question I have for you before I end is that

  922. will you tell Jesus.

  923. If you say so, I will let down my name.

  924. We hope you've been blessed by this message. For more
