  1. You're listening to a message to go from X Church.

  2. We hope this message will light up your day.

  3. So the title of my sermon for today is this.

  4. Make it the first slide. More than we realize. The

  5. Holy Spirit is more than what we realize. More than

  6. what we realize. You know that Jesus said, I will

  7. send you a helper. after he ascended to heaven. Before

  8. he ascended to heaven, he said, I'm going back to heaven,

  9. but when I go back to heaven, I will send

  10. you a helper. And a lot of times, we do

  11. not realize how rich that word helper is. That word advocate.

  12. It's also a word advocate. It's a word comforter. And

  13. sometimes we say that, hey, we don't need help. But

  14. what we don't realize is today, even as the Spirit

  15. guides me, we hope to discover more of what the

  16. Holy Spirit is, who He is, and how He functions

  17. in us and leads us down the path that God

  18. wants us to be. Okay? All right. Next slide. So

  19. I broke this down into three different questions. that I

  20. wanted us to answer. First question. Do all Christians have

  21. the Holy Spirit? How many say yes? How many say no?

  22. How many say don't know? How many say I'm waiting

  23. for the next slide? Alright. So do all Christians have

  24. the Holy Spirit? Why I'm going through this is because

  25. we have to understand fundamentals, basics. We might have been

  26. in church for so long, but if we do not

  27. realize the fundamentals, the same thing, if Adam does not

  28. realize what he was entitled for in the gym and

  29. what God has promised us, we are missing out. So,

  30. next slide. This is Acts 2 verse 38. Acts 2

    Acts 2:38 Acts 2:38

  31. verse 38. This was the first sermon which Peter preached.

  32. And he preached it to people of all languages who

  33. were down in Jerusalem for the Pentecost. This is what

  34. he said. Peter said to them, Repent and let every

  35. one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus

  36. Christ for the remission of sins and you shall receive

  37. the gift of the Holy Spirit. So when you believe

  38. that Jesus Christ is Lord and you accept His gift

  39. of forgiveness, the Holy Spirit belongs to you. The Holy

  40. Spirit lives in us. Alright? So I ask you again,

  41. Go back one slide again. Do all Christians have the

  42. Holy Spirit? How many say yes? Hopefully it's more hands. Yes.

  43. All Christians have the Holy Spirit because that is what

  44. is said in the Bible. That when we believe in

  45. Jesus Christ and you accept Him as your personal Lord

  46. and Saviour, you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. Okay?

  47. Next slide. So, if anyone does not have the Spirit

  48. of Christ, he is not his. So, if we do

  49. not have the Spirit, Holy Spirit, or the Spirit of Christ,

  50. then we are not under God's covering. So, that's why

  51. When we say the salvation prayer, the Holy Spirit lives

  52. in us. And because of that, we belong to Him. Right?

  53. So if there's no Spirit, it means that we don't

  54. belong to Christ. But if we belong to Christ, it

  55. means that we have the Spirit living in us. Okay? Alright.

  56. Let me now... Okay. So that's the first question that

  57. I wanted us to answer. So the second question I

  58. wanted us to answer is this. When did the disciples

  59. receive the Spirit? How many of us have been in

  60. church since Sunday school? Yeah, me too, right? When did

  61. the disciples receive the Holy Spirit? Any guesses? Anybody took

  62. Bible knowledge in School. Pentecost. Okay. Before Christ was crucified. Okay. Okay.

  63. Right.

  64. So some say Pentecost. Some say before crucified.

  65. Right.

  66. Another one is Jesus blew it on them, right? And said,

  67. receive the Holy Spirit. Okay, let's read this next. So

  68. it says here that if you love me, keep my

  69. commandments and I pray that the Father will give you

  70. another helper that he may abide with you forever. The

  71. Spirit of truth whom the world cannot receive because it

  72. neither sees Him nor knows Him. But you know Him,

  73. for He dwells with you and will be in you. Okay?

  74. I'm not answering the question yet, but I wanted to

  75. give you a bit more context. So let's look at

  76. verse 15. Verse 16, actually. And I pray the Father,

  77. pray the Father, and He will give you another helper.

  78. The word another means there is an existing Helper. Who

  79. is the existing helper? Jesus. So when Jesus says, I

  80. will give you a helper, the original helper, the first

  81. helper that came was actually Jesus. That's why when Jesus

  82. says that, I will give you another helper and that

  83. helper will abide with you forever because Jesus knew that

  84. he will ascend into heaven. He will ascend into heaven,

  85. but the Holy Spirit will be on earth with all

  86. of us and will abide in us. The Spirit of

  87. truth whom the world cannot see because it neither sees

  88. Him nor knows Him, but you know Him for He

  89. dwells with you and will be in you. So did

  90. Jesus dwell in the disciples? No. Jesus was man, right?

  91. He was, he dwelt with them. Jesus was with the disciples.

  92. And that's why he says here, with para, which is

  93. a Greek word, he was, Jesus was alongside the disciples.

  94. But the Holy Spirit will dwell in us. And the

  95. Holy Spirit will dwell in us when we believe that

  96. Jesus Christ is Lord. You know that during this time,

  97. did the disciples believe that Jesus was the Son of God? Yet,

  98. what do you think? May or may not be. Because

  99. when Jesus died on the cross, all of them ran away.

  100. If they believed that He was the Son of God

  101. and He will rise to life again, They'll be like, hey,

  102. it's cool. You know, they wouldn't be scared. They wouldn't

  103. have run away. But they thought it was the end.

  104. But when Jesus rose again, then they recognized that He

  105. is the Son of God. Then they believed in Him. Okay?

  106. So next slide. So this is when the Holy Spirit

  107. dwelt in the disciples. This was after Jesus resurrected. It says,

  108. So Jesus said to them again, Peace to you. As

  109. the Father has sent me, I also send you. And

  110. when he has said this, he breathed on them and

  111. said to them, Receive the Holy Spirit. So well done, Max.

  112. Jesus breathed on them and the disciples received the Holy Spirit.

  113. This breathe, the word breathe, is also the same one

  114. that is found in Genesis. where God breathed upon men

  115. and gave them life. And this is the second they

  116. were born again. So, Jesus breathed upon them and they

  117. received the Holy Spirit. So then, you say that, hey,

  118. then why did Jesus ask them to wait for the

  119. Holy Spirit? You know? Just now, Auntie Margaret said, Pentecost. So,

  120. I was struggling with all these questions and thoughts as well. So,

  121. bear with me. This is the journey that we're going through. And,

  122. there is more than what we know, right? There's more

  123. than what we realize, okay? So, let's see. Next slide. So,

  124. this is in 1 John 2, 1. Do you remember

  125. just now I said that Jesus said, I will send

  126. you another helper? So, the first helper was actually Jesus.

  127. And the word helper is also the word advocate. It's

  128. also the word comforter and helper. So it says here

  129. in 1 John 2 verse 1, My children, these things

    1 John 2:1

  130. I write to you so that you may not sin.

  131. And if anyone sins, we have an advocate with the Father,

  132. Jesus Christ the righteous. So Jesus was and is God.

  133. Our advocate. And what does Jesus advocate for us? What

  134. is an advocate? Any of you all know what's an advocate?

  135. The picture there is a hint. Yeah, it's a defense attorney.

  136. It's a lawyer. Why do we need a defense attorney?

  137. Who is throwing accusations at us? The devil, the devil

  138. is throwing accusations at us. And we need the best

  139. defense attorney, which is Jesus. Because by His blood, we

  140. are saved. He has taken away all our sin, all

  141. our shame. And before God, He is saying, God, I

  142. have paid the price. I am defending them. And that's

  143. why they will receive eternal life. So Jesus is our advocate.

  144. He's our advocate in heaven, constantly petitioning on our behalf.

  145. Whenever the enemy throws any blame, any lies against us,

  146. he defends us. And he defends us against our sin,

  147. our failure. He opposes Satan's accusation. and ensures that we

  148. have forgiveness, so that we have eternal life. So how

  149. many of us want Jesus as our advocate? Right? Right now,

  150. how many of us want the Holy Spirit as our advocate?

  151. You want? Well, you know that Jesus and the Holy Spirit,

  152. although they are three in one, they are two different people.

  153. And Jesus is advocating us, for us, to the Father

  154. against the accusations of Satan. So what is the Holy

  155. Spirit advocating for us? Next slide. So this is in

  156. Romans 8, 26. Likewise, the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses.

  157. For we do not know what we should pray for

  158. as we ought. But the Spirit Himself makes intercession for

  159. us with groanings which cannot be uttered. So the Holy

  160. Spirit is our advocate here on earth. He is here

  161. to help us in our times of weakness. He is

  162. here to help us in our times of need. He

  163. is here when we are down. We are being attacked

  164. here on earth. And He is here now. Even as

  165. we struggle with our flesh, sometimes we don't know what

  166. to pray. We reach a stalemate or we reach a

  167. dead end. It can be a financial need, it can

  168. be an emotional need, it can be a physical need.

  169. But that is when the Holy Spirit, He advocates for us.

  170. In our times of weakness, He is our strength. In

  171. our time of need, that's where He shows up and

  172. takes control. He opposes the flesh. So our flesh is

  173. the one that is pointing us towards death. But the

  174. Holy Spirit will guide us towards what God wants us

  175. to do. And because of that, it results in power

  176. and boldness to take on whatever the enemy or the

  177. world has in store. So do we need the Holy

  178. Spirit as we enter the year of evangelism? Of course.

  179. Because the Holy Spirit will... Just now I asked us

  180. a question. How many of us are excited about evangelism?

  181. Or it's your favorite word. It may not be a

  182. lot of people's favorite word. It's because of fear. And

  183. if we try and overcome fear on our own, we

  184. will fail. But with the Holy Spirit, then there will

  185. be boldness. Just as the kids are educating us on boldness.

  186. They are bold because for them, Jesus says this, invite

  187. my friends. There is no right time. Just invite. Just share.

  188. And that's what they are doing. They are not allowing

  189. fear to dictate. But they are going with what the

  190. word of God says. And that's what the Holy Spirit

  191. does with us. Okay? And this picture here is the

  192. Holy Spirit is like the wind in our sail. When

  193. we are stuck in the middle of the sea, there

  194. is no wind. How you try and paddle your boat,

  195. you will go how far? Not far. But with the

  196. Holy Spirit, the wind in our sail, He will just

  197. push us further, faster. So how many of us want

  198. the Holy Spirit? We want, right? Okay. And now is

  199. the third question. So the first question, I just recap, right?

  200. The first question just now was, Do all Christians have

  201. the Holy Spirit? The answer is yes. Okay? Second question is,

  202. when did the disciples receive the Spirit? The disciples received

  203. the Spirit when Jesus breathed on them. Right? So they

  204. received the Spirit. And we also receive the Spirit when

  205. we believe that Jesus Christ is Lord. Okay? So if

  206. we have received and the Holy Spirit is living in us,

  207. the third question is this. If we have the Spirit,

  208. then why do we need to be filled again? You

  209. already have the Holy Spirit, so why do you need

  210. to be filled?

  211. Huh?

  212. We have a lot of holes. Yep, true. We have

  213. a lot of holes. That's a simple question as well,

  214. a simple answer as well. But it's true in terms

  215. of it. And how many of us, you ate on

  216. the 1st of January? And you ate this morning? Don't

  217. you have to constantly eat, right? To edify yourself, to

  218. nourish yourself. You can't eat once and then it's over.

  219. But you need the Holy Spirit. Although the Holy Spirit

  220. dwells in you, you need a constant feeling of the

  221. Holy Spirit. So let's look at this. Okay? Next slide.

  222. So this is Ephesians 1 verse 13. In Him you

    Ephesians 1:13

  223. also trusted after you heard the word of truth, the

  224. gospel of your salvation, in whom also having believed, you

  225. were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise. So when

  226. you believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit. That

  227. is when you had your salvation. When you have your salvation,

  228. the Holy Spirit sealed it. And it dwells in you.

  229. So that is the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. As

  230. long as Jesus Christ is our personal Lord and Savior,

  231. the Holy Spirit dwells in us. So this is called

  232. the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. Turn to your neighbor

  233. and say, indwelling of the Holy Spirit. So indwelling means

  234. the Spirit moves in permanently. The Spirit, Jesus lives in you.

  235. in your life, or the Holy Spirit lives in your

  236. life permanently. Okay? So that's indwelling. Next. So just now

  237. was Ephesians 1, right? Now it's Ephesians 5. Then Paul

  238. also said this. Do not be drunk with wine in

  239. which is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit. Why

  240. is Paul asking them to be filled with the Holy

  241. Spirit when just now in Ephesians 1, they were already

  242. sealed with the Holy Spirit? It's because being filled by

  243. the Holy Spirit, right, is that we are allowing the

  244. Holy Spirit to take over progressively. That means we surrender

  245. more and more to Him every single day. When the

  246. Holy Spirit moves into your life, it does not mean

  247. He is the master of your life yet. You may

  248. just park Him in the guest room or storeroom or

  249. you just use Him as Google, you know, or whatever

  250. it is. But being in fill of the Holy Spirit

  251. is saying that Holy Spirit You tell me what to do.

  252. You are now in control of my life. And I

  253. die to self each day. You take control. You tell

  254. me what to do and you lead me and guide me. Okay,

  255. let's go to the next slide. So there are a

  256. few examples of this. There are a few examples of this.

  257. This was Acts 4 verse 8. So Acts 4 verse 8,

    Acts 4:8 Acts 4:8

  258. just now we talked about Acts 2, the first sermon

  259. where Peter preached about. That was when the Holy Spirit

  260. filled the disciples with power. The disciples were filled with

  261. power and because they were filled with power, they could

  262. go and speak in tongues. And then Peter preached the

  263. most powerful sermon that 3,000 people got saved. So how

  264. many of y'all agree that Peter already has the Holy

  265. Spirit in Acts chapter 2, right? And he was also

    Acts 2 chapter mention

  266. in the upper room. But then why in Acts chapter 4, 8,

    Acts 4 chapter mention

  267. it says here, when they had sent them there in

  268. the midst, they asked, by what power or by what

  269. name have you done this? Then Peter, filled with the

  270. Holy Spirit, You see, Peter was again filled with the

  271. Holy Spirit. Said to them, rulers of the people and

  272. elders of Israel. And then he started to rebuke and rebut.

  273. So when we are in need, when there's a new crisis,

  274. when we go through new challenges, we need a fresh

  275. feeling of the Holy Spirit to tackle the latest storm.

  276. And we see that over and over again. We cannot

  277. depend on yesterday's strength for tomorrow's troubles. We cannot depend

  278. on our experience because then you'll be depending on experience.

  279. You know, they say another level, another devil. But we need.

  280. That's why we need a fresh feeling of the Holy Spirit.

  281. Peter was already filled at Pentecost, but then right now

  282. when people were bringing charges against him, the Holy Spirit

  283. filled him again and he was able to speak to them. Okay,

  284. that's one example. Let's see another example. Also in Acts

    Acts 4 chapter mention

  285. chapter 4, the community, right now the whole church was

  286. filled again. And when they had prayed, the place where

  287. they were assembled together was shaken. And they were all

  288. filled with the Holy Spirit. And they spoke the word

  289. of God with boldness. You know that before, this was

  290. after Peter was released, after he spoke to the Sanhedrin,

  291. and the church was shaken. The church was shaken because

  292. they were in fear because all the authorities were coming

  293. against them. But what did the church do? The church

  294. came together and prayed And they seek God and the

  295. Holy Spirit filled them. And what happened? Suddenly, their fear

  296. turned to boldness. From fear, they had courage because they

  297. had a new infilling of the Holy Spirit. So the

  298. boldness was then restored. Because again, they had a different challenge.

  299. But as long as they continue seeking the Holy Spirit,

  300. the Holy Spirit came. and continued to be their helper.

  301. Can you see how powerful this word helper is? He

  302. became their advocate. He's like, come on guys. He became

  303. their personal trainer. He became someone who is at a

  304. level that can guide each and every one of us

  305. towards our next victory. And the sad thing is sometimes

  306. most of us, we say it's okay. I can do

  307. it on my own. Or we don't seek God. And

  308. we think that, hey, I have done it before this way.

  309. So I will use my experience to get out of it.

  310. And then we crash and burn. You know? But why

  311. not seek the Holy Spirit? So next slide. This was

  312. another one. The church walking in the Spirit. This is

  313. Acts chapter 9. Then the churches throughout all Judea, Galilee

    Acts 9 chapter mention

  314. and Samaria had peace and were edified. And walking in

  315. the fear of the Lord and in the comfort of

  316. the Holy Spirit, they were multiplied. The key word here

  317. is walking. It's not walked. They were walking together in

  318. the fear of the Lord and in the comfort of

  319. the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is our comforter. He's

  320. our advocate. He's our helper. And they were walking with

  321. the Holy Spirit daily. And because of that, the church grew.

  322. Because of that, they prospered. It's not because of what

  323. they did or who they were, but it's because of

  324. the Holy Spirit. they were fully aligned to the Holy

  325. Spirit and continuously filled with the Holy Spirit. So there

  326. was peace, there was growth, and there was multiplication because

  327. they constantly seeked out the Holy Spirit. So even as

  328. I draw towards the end, right now, this is the

  329. last portion. So we want to be filled by the

  330. Holy Spirit. I want to ask us, how many of

  331. us want to be filled by the Holy Spirit? Right?

  332. But why? Why do we want to be filled by

  333. the Holy Spirit? To operate.

  334. Okay?

  335. To operate is one. I wouldn't put you all on

  336. the spot too much. There will be many reasons. Of course,

  337. it's to help us towards our times of need. Right?

  338. To get us through life. Life is tough. Life is hard. Right?

  339. In terms of it. And we need someone on our

  340. side who will help us, who will guide us. But

  341. what is God's purpose for us being filled with the

  342. Holy Spirit? Because Jesus said He will send an advocate

  343. and He will guide you. Right? Next slide. So the

  344. purpose of daily infilling is this. Next. Next slide. Acts 1.8

  345. The purpose of being filled with the Holy Spirit is this.

  346. You shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come

  347. upon you and you shall be witnesses to me in Jerusalem,

  348. in all of Judea, in Samaria and to the ends

  349. of the earth. That is why we need the daily

  350. prayer filling of the Holy Spirit. It's to fulfill the

  351. Great Commission. So even as we prepare for the year

  352. of evangelism, if we are going to depend on our

  353. own strength, it is impossible. But that's why we want

  354. the filling of the Holy Spirit. Because when we have

  355. the filling of the Holy Spirit, we will have the

  356. power of the Holy Spirit. And the power of the

  357. Holy Spirit will lead us and guide us into doing

  358. what God wants us to do. Right? So it's... when

  359. we have salvation, when we accepted Jesus Christ as our

  360. personal Lord and Savior, we were enrolled in God's army.

  361. Put it like that. So we are enrolled in God's

  362. army already. Alright? But when we have a daily filling

  363. of the Holy Spirit, we are being continuously trained by

  364. God to become a better soldier, to become a better sniper,

  365. to become a better medic, to become a better.

  366. Leader.

  367. And that's why we need the infilling of the Holy Spirit.

  368. You know, we know that in the natural, but what

  369. more in the spiritual? So even as I get the

  370. band up, this morning. So the last slide is this.

  371. The question is not, do I have the Holy Spirit

  372. or not? The question is, is He God or a

  373. guest in my life? Because if the Holy Spirit is

  374. God in your life, then you will ask Him to

  375. direct your path. If the Holy Spirit is a guest

  376. in your house, then you will take everything that that

  377. person says with a pinch of salt. You might just

  378. be cordial. You might just park that person aside. So

  379. the Holy Spirit may be indwelling in you, but He's

  380. not God. So this morning, let's check our hearts and say, God,

  381. are you a God? Are you God in my life?

  382. Or am I treating you like a guest? A guest

  383. has no say over what I do in my life.

  384. You know? But a God is saying that, God, I

  385. surrender to you.

  386. We hope you've been blessed by this message. For more

  387. information on our church, please visit xchurch.org. We are also

  389. is going to be a good week ahead for you.

  390. God bless.
