  1. Good morning, Easteridge.

  2. My name is Justin, and I am the senior pastor here, and I have placed a$5 bill underneath these seats up here, if anyone would like to come up and claim them.

  3. So I'm joking, I didn't actually do that.

  4. But it but you know, but if you want to move up, it's okay to do that too.

  5. Um we started uh four weeks ago on our A Better Way message series, and we know that there is a better way to live, a way that we can commit to our uh our lives uh to the way that Jesus wants us to live, not live at the pace or the pressures of the world, and that we get to live a better way.

  6. So we started with scripture and how we're supposed to delight in this book, delight in the word and follow it very closely.

  7. And so we we we we live in the in that kind of delight in our lives every single day.

  8. We went into fasting and how so how we are supposed to surrender our earthly desires so that we can get closer to God, so that we can say, I don't need this food, I don't need this thing, I don't need this social media.

  9. I I all I want to do is get close to God, and that's what I'm gonna commit to doing.

  10. So we we looked at we looked at fasting, and then we went to Sabbath and rest, and how you know Sabbath and rest are are um are how we break the mold for what the world wants us to do and go fast and produce and just be busy all the time.

  11. And so we we rest and slow down so that we don't have to do what the world wants us to do.

  12. We can we can know that God gives us rest to restore.

  13. And then last week we talked about generosity and how generosity is moved into worship and that we can worship the Lord because of our generous gifts, and he sees them as extravagant and a beautiful thing that is done before him.

  14. So I have two examples of that uh this week of that generosity, and one is through, you know, gifts, time, and talents.

  15. And so this uh the this I don't I don't even know what to call it right now, but this preaching table was built within about two weeks after after um after a vision and said, Yeah, I can do that.

  16. I can I can build something like that.

  17. So someone actually built this thing from this congregation and said and said, No, here, I want to bless you with it.

  18. So, you know, can we give a praise to God for for you know gifts and time and talents of something like that?

  19. I I I said to him, I said, I I need I need some more space for my stuff up here.

  20. So he said, Okay, I can do that, I can give you more space.

  21. So we did that.

  22. And then uh last week we walked into Sunday morning uh having raised$4,500 for harvest back.

  23. Amen.

  24. That's a that's a praise right there.

  25. And we also had 25 volunteers that were signed up as well.

  26. Then that's that's amazing.

  27. And then on Monday morning, we were like, okay, where are we going with this?

  28. Uh where are we at with everything?

  29. And so we uh we this morning, as of this morning, we have over 70 volunteers that are that are gonna be helping out on the harvest pack.

  30. Amen.

  31. That's a that's a praise right there.

  32. Amen.

  33. And then we also have exceeded our fundraising goal of$7,000.

  34. We have raised$7,492 so far for this.

  35. Can we praise God for that?

  36. God did that, okay?

  37. Praise God.

  38. He did all that.

  39. It's it's amazing to see what that generosity does, and it is a beautiful thing.

  40. It is a beautiful thing that we're doing for the Lord, and it's extravagant worship.

  41. So um so today we're gonna talk all about community and what what community is like.

  42. So if you brought your Bibles with you, we're gonna be in Mark chapter two.

  43. Uh, and if uh I I encourage you all to bring your Bibles here on Sundays.

  44. We we're we're gonna be reading the scriptures together.

  45. If you have a physical Bible, great.

  46. If you need one, we have one by the door.

  47. We'll we would love to give one to you.

  48. And if you don't, if you just want to use your your digital Bible, that's okay too.

  49. But really, we're gonna be in the scriptures.

  50. We're we we know that this book is something we delight in, and we're gonna base what we learn based on what this says in here today.

  51. So uh Mark chapter or uh yeah, Mark 2.

  52. It's uh Mark is the second gospel of Matthew, Mark.

  53. So I'm gonna need some audience participation.

  54. Matthew, Mark, uh so and uh and Mark was written to the Romans.

  55. And the Romans uh are are are Gentiles, they're non-Jews.

  56. So it Mark reads very quickly, it reads very conversationally.

  57. Uh there's not a lot of the Jewish traditions or things that we see in there of like, okay, that is clearly a Jewish thing.

  58. I don't really understand it.

  59. This is this is written for people that want to that want to know who Jesus is for what he did, spending his time here on earth doing.

  60. And that is primarily through being a servant.

  61. We see we see Jesus as a lot of different uh lot of different portrayals.

  62. Uh, you know, in uh in uh in Matthew, he's seen as as a king, and that's because the that the that the Jews were looking for a messianic king.

  63. And so the Matthew was written to Jews seeing him as a king.

  64. Mark was written to Gentiles, seeing him as a servant.

  65. Someone that you don't normally find as a Messiah is a servant first.

  66. So we see him as a servant.

  67. And before we before we get into you know what exactly the text says about uh how Jesus was serving and the community, you know, I had to be honest with you about something.

  68. I uh I I'm really bad at asking for help.

  69. I know I know it comes as a shock to all of you.

  70. I'm really bad at asking for help.

  71. So for instance, you know, when when I have groceries, I am very selfish, but maybe I show off a little bit saying, I can carry all these things on my own.

  72. I've got the strength, and clearly I don't.

  73. If you if you missed last week's message, go watch it on YouTube.

  74. I clearly can't lift it as much as I had displayed up here.

  75. But but really, I I think you know, I can I can bring all these groceries into my own.

  76. I got I've got uh you know uh I've got four bags on one, I've got I've got uh a gallon of milk on one finger.

  77. Meanwhile, you know, when I was uh a little bit younger and carrying kids, I had arm, you know, I had the the the carrier in my arm.

  78. Anyone else carrying kids around these days?

  79. You know, it's the that that too is heavy.

  80. And so we we have all these heavy things that we're trying to carry in.

  81. The kids are crying, or there's snow on the way into the house, or you can't find your keys and your hands are full.

  82. It's just you're just carrying heavy, heavy things.

  83. And so I I don't like asking for help.

  84. I I I I don't want to ask my kids for help because somehow the eggs and the milk uh or the eggs and the bread and the chips are all in the same thing, so they're gonna get squashed and they're gonna squash them.

  85. I guarantee that's gonna happen.

  86. So we so we we don't, you know, I would rather bring help than ask for it.

  87. Meaning I'm I want to bring my you know bring my kids along with me, but I don't want them to help.

  88. And so I do that in my life as well.

  89. It's hard for me to ask for that.

  90. And and pastors really do have a have a hard time of asking for help, but also we need friends.

  91. We need relationships, we need these things to exist in our lives, and and everybody does.

  92. So, you know, for instance, this last week, uh I I lost a very dear friend of mine, and uh on on uh on Friday when I when I heard about his passing, um I I called friends.

  93. I called this uh I called this accountability group actually and said, you know, man, uh my my my friend is gone.

  94. Uh this is kind of a shock.

  95. It's it's also not really a shock.

  96. He's been enduring through this disease.

  97. But they stopped right then and there, answered their phone, and prayed.

  98. They talked.

  99. They assured me of his salvation.

  100. They they they they they walked me through some stuff that I was just going through.

  101. I was like, I don't know what to do next.

  102. It's kind of difficult right now, and this kind of helped me say, okay, here's what's going on.

  103. But but not only are they there to pray, they're also there to reveal things that are that I'm blind to, that I can't see on my own.

  104. So and and they so I'm seeing that that life brings heavy things.

  105. Life is a lot.

  106. Life brings heavy things to all of us.

  107. Everyday decisions.

  108. There's uh and we have these relationships that we want to build, but sometimes that's difficult too.

  109. We have drama that's added to it, we have hurt, we have disappointment, we have uh all these things that we're carrying into wanting to be, you know, in relationship and want community, but it's difficult.

  110. We have we have to we have to work at it, we have to build habits into it.

  111. And then we, you know, when we when we do finally start that consistency, we say, okay, now I I have questions about God, I have questions about about faith, and we bring those together too.

  112. We bring them together here, we bring them together at church things, but but you know, really it comes down to saying, I've got it, I have it, I have it under control.

  113. When really what you mean is I would like to believe, I would like you to believe that I have a plan when really that might not be true.

  114. So God has given us a better way to carry life.

  115. You know, going back to the grocery, you know, a friend will take a couple bags off your hands and make and lighten that load.

  116. It's the same driveway, it's the same amount, it's the same load, but now it's shared with other people.

  117. The burden is shared with others.

  118. So we have that gift of friendship and relationships.

  119. And it whether it be you know at work or at school or you know, uh even even at church, we would love to see that happen.

  120. And but but it's it's still tricky to do that.

  121. We have to put ourselves out there.

  122. You know, we can communicate uh on our on our phones, and people are just a message away, and yet it's still hard to put ourselves out there and ask for help.

  123. So, my question for us this week is you know, who sees your hard week?

  124. Who knows you're going through it?

  125. Who do you call for prayer?

  126. Who has permission to ask about your home, about your marriage, about your household?

  127. Who says, yeah, let's let's figure this out.

  128. Let's figure this out together.

  129. We can spend a whole day communicating and still wonder who to call for truth.

  130. You know, we have this really great thing in the Midwest where we like to greet each other with, hey, how are you?

  131. And what is the most common response out there?

  132. Fine.

  133. Fine.

  134. I'm fine, I'm fine.

  135. I did the same thing this week.

  136. I got a I got a phone call on Wednesday with a couple of these with these buddies, and I said, fine, even though that morning my seven-year-old decided to put an entire roll of toilet paper in a soiled toilet, and it was overflowing, and uh it was so it was overflowing all over the place.

  137. Jude walked into there, his socks got immediately what he said, there's water all over the floor, and I'm getting towels, and I'm and and and you know, I'm supposed to be out the door soon, and the kids are the kids are leaving at this point, but I'm still finding all these towels and and cleaning this up and and getting the plunger and everything like that.

  138. But what did I say?

  139. I'm fine.

  140. I'm fine.

  141. That's not true.

  142. It was it was stressful.

  143. Uh I didn't I didn't, you know, I didn't like that part of it.

  144. Um there would be a lot of cleanup afterwards and laundry and things like that, but I'm fine.

  145. You know, we also had this thing that we would say, you know, uh good but busy.

  146. Anybody else do the good but busy?

  147. I've added I've added uh busy but busy by choice because I have the uh you know I have swim schedules, I have dance schedules, I have school schedules, I have work schedules, I have Sarah schedule, you know, all these other things that are going on.

  148. And you know, I I think I like to think that I can control the schedules, but I can't.

  149. But it's busy by choice because I'm like, you know, I could eliminate all these other things, but it's my choice to do that.

  150. So we say, I'm I'm good, you know, busy, but good.

  151. Yep.

  152. And then but Christian community, if you're following with Jesus, if you are in the church, if you are in a small group, if you are if you are here, Christian community allows there to be a little bit more room for a fuller answer.

  153. Where there is listening, there's prayer that's offered, there is caring items and actions that are given to you.

  154. There is truth that is offered, and there's wisdom for the next step in your life.

  155. So being known makes it possible to be helped when you open up that vulnerability.

  156. Relationships are tough, they're difficult, but you have to just begin with a conversation and kind of grow that consistency.

  157. Share more as trust grows in it.

  158. Have something called context in your relationship, a meal, a place, a phone call, a small group, a conversation beyond just the simple greeting of how are you?

  159. And as we receive that care and offer care, we do that as a part of following Jesus.

  160. We do that as a part of following Jesus.

  161. So we're gonna read about that today in Mark 2.

  162. So, uh, like I said, we're gonna be in Mark, it's Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, Mark chapter 2.

    Mark 2 chapter mention

  163. When you're there, say words so I know that you're there.

  164. Word.

  165. Word.

  166. Here we go.

  167. Okay.

  168. And when he returned to Pakr to Capernaum after some days, it was reported that he was at home.

  169. All right, so before we go on, Capernaum is a kind of a suburb that's in Galilee.

  170. It's one of the towns that's in Galilee region.

  171. And what's going on here is this is where the home base of Jesus' ministry is started.

  172. From there they go to other other regions and other areas, but this is where they start.

  173. And uh, and as we read Mark, we're gonna read, you know, uh it goes through a lot of things very quickly.

  174. And so we see that uh that it says, and immediately, and then, and then immediately, and then.

  175. So as we read that, it says, and when he returned to Capernaum, after some days it was reported that he was at home.

  176. He's at his base.

  177. They're they're they're where they need to be.

  178. They're starting off their ministry here in Capernaum.

  179. So we have uh and then it goes on to say, and many were gathered together so that there was no more room, not even at the door.

  180. First off, I think fire hazard.

  181. Okay, safety.

  182. There's this room is so full of people that that they that there's not even they can't even see through the door.

  183. You can't look through it.

  184. It it's it's difficult to do that.

  185. So so they're that that there's so much room, and this is probably a room about of about 50 people that are in this room.

  186. It's not gigantic, but there's about 50 people in this room.

  187. And I don't know where Jesus is seated.

  188. You know, you often think of him seated in the center, and people are always surrounding him, but maybe he was in the corner, you know, he was uh where where like the he could project a little bit more.

  189. Either way, Jesus is there, and it says, and he was preaching the word to them.

  190. At this point in Mark 2, there had been a lot of miracles that were happening, a lot of healings, things that were making him a little bit popular, but what he was doing here alone was preaching the word.

  191. There are five other times in Mark that where where it talks about a crowd forming just to hear the words of Jesus and his teaching.

  192. Just like all of us, we're we're here right now to hear what Jesus has said, to worship him, to bring him praise.

  193. And so we're we're reading this and saying that that there is a there's a room full of people who just want to hear the words.

  194. It's growing.

  195. So it goes on to say, and they came, bringing to him a paralytic man carried by four men.

  196. Now these four friends carried a paralytic man.

  197. And um I'm gonna talk about this in a little bit.

  198. In John chapter 5, it talks about how there's this pool uh in Jerusalem called Bethesda, and this is a healing pool.

    John 5 chapter mention

  199. They believe that if you went into this pool, you were able to be healed of any sort of ailment that you had.

  200. And the group of people that were outside of this pool were people that were called invalids.

  201. And that's that's not a popular term today, but that's what the Bible, that's what the Bible calls it.

  202. Invalids.

  203. It was there were people that were blind, people that were lame, people that were diseased, and paralyzed.

  204. So this man was an invalid.

  205. He was he was he was an invalid man.

  206. This paralytic man was being brought and carried by four men.

  207. And when they could not get near him, because of the crowd, they removed the roof above him, and when they had made an opening, they let down the bed on which the paralytic man lay.

  208. Now let me just paint this, uh paint this a little bit for you.

  209. Okay, so the the Jewish homes back then, you know, they they weren't like extravagant big homes like we have today.

  210. They're pretty simple.

  211. They had a they had a room, they had maybe had another room to sleep in, but they also had a roof.

  212. And that roof was kind of like a second home.

  213. They they kept stuff up there and they they uh they they they relaxed up there maybe in the evening.

  214. But how they would get up there is it depending on how how wealthy you were.

  215. If you were wealthy, you could afford a stairs to get up to the roof.

  216. And and and so, and I'm talking about a very narrow stairs.

  217. This isn't a stairs where you can carry a little next to you or carry a mattress or a couch up the stairs.

  218. This is a narrow, thin stairs.

  219. So you could go up there by a stairs, or you could go up there with a ladder.

  220. And so I want you to picture that as these men are carrying this paralytic man on a mat, four of them walking up this narrow stairs as they're carrying him.

  221. And he's a fragile man.

  222. He's paralytic.

  223. So so he he probably doesn't have a lot of density around him.

  224. If they were to drop him, he would be severely injured.

  225. And so they're carrying this man up into the roof.

  226. And it might even be on a ladder.

  227. Think about how awkward that would be.

  228. I can barely put up Christmas lights without dropping something.

  229. They're carrying a man up a ladder.

  230. So this is really difficult to do.

  231. So finally, somehow, by a miracle in itself, they get up to that roof.

  232. And then they're like, okay, there's no skylight here, there's no access, so we gotta do something.

  233. So what they do is they they start, you know, they they probably grab whatever's around them, and they just start, you know, uh start making a hole in the in the in the center of of the of the of the room where where like Jesus is right up right above them.

  234. And they're they're you know, they're they're they're breaking stuff, they're hammering, they're there's there's loud noises, and probably in that room, they're just hearing, what is going on?

  235. What is that?

  236. Why is there why is there something going on here?

  237. Well, I don't I don't know what that noise is.

  238. And and and there's probably dust coming down at this point, and it and it's and it's messy because here's what here's how difficult it would be.

  239. Remember I said that there needs to be a that they need to support people up there, that there's there there's support, and so there's timbers that are supporting this roof, and then cross laid with uh with sticks and branches, and then uh reeds and hay and lots and lots and lots of mud.

  240. So that this this roof is about two feet thick, and they're busting through this, and it probably takes them a long time to do it as well.

  241. So they're busting through all this stuff, and you guys can you can you hear that?

  242. That's probably what it sounded like, okay?

  243. Nothing is going on actually.

  244. There's nothing breaking through the roof yet.

  245. Um so we uh so so that's going on.

  246. This this room is being broken into by these four men, and they and it's it's loud, it's dusty, and stuff is following in the room, and when that hole is big enough, they lower their friend down.

  247. And here's what it says happened next in verse five.

  248. It says, and when Jesus saw their faith, he said in the paralytic, son, your sins are forgiven.

  249. We're gonna come back to a little bit about this now, but but what you need to understand is that that this is this is a this is a not a common thing to say to people, to forgive them of their sins.

  250. Because of what happens next, it says, now some of the scribes were sitting there questioning in their hearts.

  251. Scribes uh at in this in this day and age were people who you know transcribed the the Torah and the Pentateuch and distributed the that that parchment to other other synagogues, and they they knew the law very well.

  252. They were they weren't the law keepers, but they were the law writers.

  253. They knew it backwards and forwards.

  254. They they wrote it down all the time.

  255. So they were sitting there among Jesus and hearing him say this exact thing that son, your sins are forgiven.

  256. And then what they were doing is questioning what he had said in their hearts.

  257. Have you ever done that before?

  258. Questioned in your heart?

  259. Where the spirit is is moving to question some sort of truth that has been revealed to you.

  260. Why did I do that?

  261. Why did I say that?

  262. Why did I think that way?

  263. How could I have acted like that?

  264. And so we we we read that, that it's it's uh that we the that they're questioning that in their hearts.

  265. This isn't just some uh just some mental idea like, oh, he's he's making a mistake there, that's incorrect.

  266. No, it's in their hearts, something, some sort of truth is being revealed.

  267. And then we reread later on in John 16.

  268. Jesus is saying this about the Holy Spirit.

  269. He says in John 16, eight, and when he comes, when the Holy Spirit comes, he will convict the world concerning.

  270. Sin and righteousness and judgment.

  271. Sin and righteousness and judgment.

  272. The Holy Spirit moves with the truth of Jesus and God and his word and says, no, stop, turn.

  273. Don't do that any longer.

  274. You questioning your hearts is actually a good thing that you're going through.

  275. You're wrestling through this.

  276. I'm going to send you home with a limp.

  277. That is okay as you wrestle through this.

  278. So a lot of us, you know, read this story of this paralytic man, and we don't have, we don't have a miracle problem.

  279. We read the stories, we we know the Bible, and we don't really have a miracle problem.

  280. We see them and we believe them.

  281. What we have is a sin problem.

  282. We have a sin problem.

  283. And back then, uh what they believed was that if you were in some sort of physical ailment, it was because of the sins of your parents that you received.

  284. Oh, and so like you could only be healed if you were healed of those ailments, then you would also be forgiven of your sin.

  285. So it's true.

  286. It's so bad that when it uh that sin is sin is so terrible.

  287. We don't want sin in our world.

  288. But but sin entered uh entered the world in Genesis 3, and it broke everything.

  289. It broke our relationship with God.

  290. It broke creation, it broke our bodies, and it broke our, it broke everything is eternally damaged.

  291. So we have a sin problem.

  292. We all have a sin problem.

  293. We all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.

  294. That's just how we are.

  295. And so what what these what these scribes are seeing is they're questioning in their heart, okay, how does that actually work?

  296. How does that happen?

  297. How can this man actually say, son, your sins are forgiven?

  298. They say in verse 7, why does this man speak like that?

  299. He is blaspheming.

  300. Who can forgive sin but God alone?

  301. And it's true.

  302. Only God can do that.

  303. Only God can forgive sin and offer that grace.

  304. And they're calling this blasphemy.

  305. Blasphemy is claiming that you are God, which is a sin itself.

  306. So there is all this tension that is happening here.

  307. We see all this, uh, and Jesus knows it.

  308. Jesus knows this tension is happening.

  309. He goes on to say, and immediately, again, that's just how Mark reads, and immediately, which means as soon as Jesus sensed that these men were questioning things in their heart, he knew it, perceiving in his spirit that they questioned thus questioned within themselves, said to them, to the scribes, Why do you question these things in your hearts?

  310. Which is easier to say to the paralytic, your sins are forgiven, or to say, Rise, take up your bed, and walk.

  311. Of course, it's easier to say, son, your sins are forgiven, because no one can prove that on earth.

  312. We can't see that.

  313. Of course it's easier to say that.

  314. So at this point, what I what I want you to see, at this point, there's a lot of tensions.

  315. The scribes are questioning Jesus.

  316. The paralytic man is laying in the middle of the room on the floor.

  317. The four friends are still on the roof looking down.

  318. There's accusations and blasphemy that are going on and forgiveness going on.

  319. And so there's a lot of things happening here.

  320. And then Jesus says, starting in verse 10, but you know that the Son of Man, that's what Jesus calls himself, the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins.

  321. He said to the paralytic, I say to you, rise, pick up your bed, and go home.

  322. So the paralytic man is told to get up and go home.

  323. And he does.

  324. So this man was not just getting a two-for-one deal here.

  325. He was being restored.

  326. The paralytic man was being restored.

  327. He was being made whole, restored in heaven and restored on the earth.

  328. See, when I was talking about that that John chapter 5, talking about the you know the invalids, and he was considered an invalid, that uh that that Jesus actually performed miracles for those people and healed them as well.

    John 5 chapter mention

  329. He healed them.

  330. And so that this paralyzed man is healed by Jesus among his friends, among these people, among these scribes.

  331. And what he is doing here is Jesus is claiming that the invalid, the invalid people are now valid.

  332. That they are now valuable.

  333. They are worthy of grace.

  334. They are worthy of forgiveness, they are worthy of restoration.

  335. And so are all of you.

  336. You are worthy of it all.

  337. Because God loves you, he sent his son for you.

  338. And so we we need to be like this paralytic man and know that we also can be restored.

  339. But why was that restoration happening in the first place?

  340. How did we even get to that restoration?

  341. Let's go back to verse five.

  342. And when Jesus saw their faith, when he saw their faith, he said, Sons, son, your sins are forgiven.

  343. And we have faith, we have their faith stories like that happen here at Easter's all the time.

  344. Not just with provision for Harvest Pack or this cool table or the things that we're doing here on a Sunday.

  345. But a lot of the things that don't happen, uh, that don't that don't get celebrated.

  346. You know, we have people that have gone through surgeries who have had weeks and weeks and weeks of help that don't get celebrated.

  347. And these people can't do anything on their own.

  348. So they have help from the community that says, yes, I will help.

  349. And they show their faith.

  350. We have people that that are that are immobile, that are that stay at home, who need help just uh just getting stuff done around the house, or to visit and to share Jesus and to share stories and to pray and to visit and ask how they're doing.

  351. We have we have families that are taking care of after after after they have babies and and we provide meals for them.

  352. Uh we have care for those who have lost loved ones to death and disease.

  353. We have care for the person who just needs to hear the words of Jesus by bringing them here.

  354. And they receive grace because of their faith.

  355. They receive forgiveness because of their faith.

  356. They receive mercy because of their faith, of their faith, because they are valid.

  357. They are now valid.

  358. We can carry one another to the one who can fully and completely make us valid.

  359. We can do that together.

  360. If you feel like you need to be made valid today, if you feel like you are that person, if you have sinned, which we all have done, if you are exhausted, if you are broken, then I invite you to turn from your sin and surrender to the Lord Jesus Christ.

  361. Receive his mercy, receive his grace, forgiveness, his healing, and his restoration.

  362. And put your faith in the one who calls you to that restoration.

  363. If you want to do that today, I would invite you to come have a conversation with me.

  364. I'd love to talk with you what that actually means to receive that salvation of eternality and forgiveness.

  365. So if you do believe in that, if you do have that in your heart, what do we do next?

  366. How do we turn this into action?

  367. So there's a lot of things that we can do to show other people that we have that grace through their faith.

  368. And that first thing is to show up.

  369. Just show up.

  370. Go to a small group.

  371. We have a lot of them happening here at Eastford.

  372. There's one even happening here this evening.

  373. Show up.

  374. Join a serve team.

  375. Uh, you know, be be with the the kids' ministry on our host ministry, on our worship ministry, our tech ministry.

  376. You know, ask for help as well.

  377. Show up and say, I need some help.

  378. I can't do it on my own.

  379. In fact, I don't want to do it on my own.

  380. I want to be a part of the community.

  381. I want to be a part of something that's that's beyond me.

  382. So show up.

  383. Second thing, share honestly.

  384. Honestly share with other people what is going on in your heart.

  385. What do you need help with?

  386. What do you need prayer for?

  387. What does that look like?

  388. This is hard.

  389. I can't do it by myself.

  390. Offer honesty and offer truthful help as well.

  391. So show up, share honestly.

  392. And then the third thing is pick up a corner.

  393. Pick up a corner.

  394. To go to each other and say, I'm going to lift you up.

  395. I'm going to lift up this other person.

  396. We can look around here and say, you know what?

  397. Someone else is going to handle that.

  398. Something's broken here at the church.

  399. Someone else will handle that.

  400. Or or someone else, someone else is suffering.

  401. I believe someone else will help with that.

  402. What if you're the person who's supposed to be helping?

  403. What if you're the one who is the one who's supposed to be picking up that mat, picking up that corner, saying, I can do it.

  404. I want to be a part of that.

  405. We can do that, we can do that all together.

  406. And uh, and and it it's it is it is by you know God's divine grace and uh and and his craftsmanship that we have an event that where we can do that all together.

  407. On November 8th, when we do the harvest pack thing, I would I I we we have somewhere between 300 and 400 people here on a weekend on average.

  408. And so it would be amazing if we all came together and packed these mules together and said it'd be it'd be it'd be bad, but also it'd be kind of amazing to see, okay, we're too full, we have to turn you away.

  409. These mules are already packed.

  410. It took 10 minutes, okay?

  411. That'd be amazing to see.

  412. And we have the opportunity to do that.

  413. We can say, yeah, I can do that.

  414. I can pick up this mat and we can do it together.

  415. So uh that that that's uh if you want to do that, sign up on our hub or sign up on the table out there.

  416. But there's a fourth, fourth thing that we can do, and that's come to the table together.

  417. We can come to this communion table together.

  418. When we look at you know what Jesus did, and he talked about community from from when he was uh just uh anointed and baptized up to through and beyond his death community.

  419. Um as a as a like a sort of a personal thing, I've been studying um the the Trinity uh in my in my like personal Bible studies, and it is a it is amazing to see how just communal God is, that he is a communal God, he is one who is has community built within him Father, Son, and Spirit.

  420. So we see that when we come to the table together, we get to celebrate that.

  421. Because at that table, when right before Jesus went to the cross to die for us, to shed his blood for us, he had honest communication with those disciples, with his friends.

  422. They talked about death, they talked about betrayal, talked about commitment.

  423. There was service there.

  424. Jesus washed the feet of those that he was with.

  425. Even Judas was there and he washed his feet.

  426. And then it ended with a meal.

  427. And here at Easter's we we celebrate what's called open communion, which means that if you are a Christian, if you have put your faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, then you can come up here and you can take these elements and and and then when you take them, uh I invite you to go back to your seats before we all take them together.

  428. And think about that person.

  429. Think about that person that you need to call.

  430. Say, I need prayer.

  431. I need help.

  432. I need you.

  433. I need the body to kind of come together.

  434. Or be that person.

  435. Be that person that says, I need to pray for you.

  436. I need to talk to you.

  437. I need to give you encouragement.

  438. I know you've been going through it.

  439. I know it's tough.

  440. So here's how I can help you.
