  1. Welcome to NECF Sermons. Each message here is

  2. designed to uplift and strengthen you in your

  3. walk with God. Don't miss out. Stay with us until

  4. the end for a rewarding experience. Let's dive

  5. right in. I want to thank God for this opportunity

  6. to bring the word to us. And I also want to thank

  7. the asteroid also for this opportunity they have

  8. given me. And I pray that as you listen to the

  9. word of God, that you're blessed. Amen. So this

  10. morning, we're going to be looking at the topic

  11. titled, Filled with the Spirit or God with Us.

  12. Filled with the Spirit or God with Us. Amen.

  13. Colossians chapter 2. Colossians chapter 2. This

Colossians 2 chapter mention Colossians 2 chapter mention

  14. is Paul writing to Timothy and he says, in whom

  15. are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.

  16. Now this I say, lest anyone should deceive you

  17. with persuasive word, for though I am absent

  18. in flesh, yet I am with you in spirit, rejoicing

  19. to see your good order and the steadfastness

  20. of your faith in Christ. As you, therefore, have

  21. received Jesus Christ the Lord, so walk in him.

  22. rooted and built up in him, established in the

  23. faith, as you have been taught, abounding in

  24. it with thanksgiving. Beware lest anyone cheat

  25. you through philosophies and empty deceits, according

  26. to the tradition of men, according to the basic

  27. principles of the world, not according to Christ.

  28. For in him dwells all the fullness. of the Godhead

  29. bodily, and you are complete in him who is the

  30. head of all principalities and power. Amen. You

  31. are complete in him. So we see here that he encourages

  32. him to be established in faith. And one of the

  33. things that we try to do, even in church, how

  34. we're doing in church, is to get you to be established

  35. in faith. Praise the Lord. that nothing deceives

  36. you or nothing cheats you of the power of God

  37. or the things that are found in Christ. Praise

  38. the Lord. So today we're looking at being filled

  39. in the Spirit or, like I said, God in us. He

  40. said you're complete in Him in verse 20. You're

  41. complete in Him. Praise the Lord. Can somebody

  42. say I'm complete in Him? So He wants us to...

  43. be established in faith, to be well established

  44. in faith. In this season and in this time, it

  45. is important that we as children of God continue

  46. to grow, continue to know God for ourselves.

  47. Praise the Lord. Like I said, what we do here

  48. is to show you, or as we teach, is to show you

  49. and then you go and find out for yourself. You

  50. go and check again. Praise the Lord. As you listen

  51. to a teaching, what you do is that you go and

  52. read your Bible again to find out if these things

  53. are true or if you understand them to be established.

  54. Praise the Lord. You need to have a clear understanding

  55. of the things of God or the Word of God. Hallelujah.

  56. So this is not our main text, but I wanted to

  57. just start from there. Praise the Lord. So you

  58. need to read further. Right? That you are persuaded

  59. by the scriptures. Praise the Lord. He said that

  60. even though he's not present with them, praise

  61. the Lord, even if you're far away, as most of

  62. us are, from home, or even from, as you're far

  63. away, let's say even from your pastors in church,

  64. as we meet twice in a week, right? That you establish,

  65. you're persuaded. Praise the Lord. That you know

  66. God for yourself and your lifestyle, It's not

  67. that which requires monitoring. Praise the Lord.

  68. It's that which is established because you have

  69. given yourself to understand the Scriptures.

  70. Praise the Lord. We see in Ephesians 5, verse

    Ephesians 5:18

  71. 18, God also tells there that be filled with

  72. the Spirit. Ephesians 5, verse 18. He tells them

    Ephesians 5:18

  73. what? To be filled with the Spirit. To be filled

  74. with the Spirit. Well, let's just go to our main

  75. text. Matthew chapter 28, as you've been doing,

    Matthew 28 chapter mention

  76. or as I've been doing for a while now, Matthew

    Matthew 28 chapter mention

  77. chapter 28, Matthew chapter 28 and verse 18 to

    Matthew 28 chapter mention

  78. 20. And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying,

  79. All authority has been given me in heaven and

  80. on earth. Go, therefore, and make disciples of

  81. all nations, baptizing them in the name of the

  82. Father, of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. teaching

  83. them to observe all things that I have commanded

  84. you, and lo, I am with you always, even to the

  85. end of the age. So we're looking at this, we

  86. want to understand what he means by saying that

  87. I am with you always. I am with you even to the

  88. end of the age. Mark chapter 16, Mark chapter

Mark 16 chapter mention Mark 16 chapter mention

  89. 16, the same thing, Mark chapter 16 verse 15.

    Mark 16:15

  90. Mark 16, verse 15. And he said to them, Go into

    Mark 16:15

  91. all the world and preach the gospel to every

  92. creature. He who believes and is baptized will

  93. be saved, for he who does not believe will be

  94. condemned. These signs will follow those who

  95. believe. In my name they will cast out demons,

  96. they will speak with new tongues, they will take

  97. up serpents, and if they drink anything deadly,

  98. it will by no means hurt them. They will lay

  99. their hands on the sick, and the sick will recover.

  100. So then, after the Lord had spoken to them, he

  101. was received up into heaven and sat down at the

  102. right hand of God. And they went out and preached

  103. everywhere, the Lord walking with them and confirming

  104. their word through accompanying signs. We're

  105. also going to look at this word, the Lord walking

  106. with them. Praise the Lord. The same thing that

  107. he's saying as Matthew, he said, I'm with you

  108. always, right? The Lord walking with them. Praise

  109. the Lord. We go back to that Matthew chapter

    Matthew 28 chapter mention

  110. 28, and we see two things there, right? Or we

  111. see something there, or we pay attention to what

  112. is written there. It said, I am with you always,

  113. verse 20, even to the end of the age. So this

  114. word, I am with you, right? It's a proper name,

  115. right? It is a name. So it's not just a set of

  116. pronouns, right? It's a proper name. Praise the

  117. Lord. I am with you is a proper name, right?

  118. We also see something that is something similar

  119. to this in Exodus chapter 3, verse 14. Exodus

    Exodus 3:14 Exodus 3:14

  120. chapter 3, verse 14. And God said to Moses, I

  121. am who I am. Or you can say, I will be what I

  122. will be. I am who I am, right? And he said, told

  123. you shall say to the children of Israel, I am

  124. have sent you. What does that mean? It's a name.

  125. Somebody has sent you. I am who I am. I am has

  126. sent you. So he's saying that someone has sent

  127. you and that I am is a person. Praise the Lord.

  128. It is someone. I am who I am or I will be what

  129. I will be. It's the word haya, right? H -A -Y

  130. -A or Yahweh. Praise the Lord. The same thing

  131. as saying Yahweh has sent you. Praise the Lord.

  132. It's also the same thing as egomai. Praise the

  133. Lord. It's a Greek word, egomai. E -G -O -E -I

  134. -M -I. E -G -O -E -I -M -I. Egomai. And in its

  135. fullness, right, I am. with you, that is what

  136. we saw in Matthew chapter 28, is egomai met haimon.

    Matthew 28 chapter mention

  137. I'm going to spell it. Egomai met haimon. It's

  138. E -G -O -E -I -M -I -M -E -T -A -H -Y -M -O -N.

  139. Egomai met haimon. I am with you. Praise the

  140. Lord. He's saying that I am with you is God's

  141. name. Praise the Lord. Yahweh, as I've said,

  142. Yahweh or Hayah. Praise the Lord. So he's saying

  143. that, so God's name is I am with you. Praise

  144. the Lord. God's name is what? I am with you.

  145. Not just I am, but I am with you. Praise the

  146. Lord. So we see that in the gospel. He's not

  147. just saying that I am, as we see here, I am who

  148. I am. but he's saying, I am with you. That is

  149. God's name, that God is with you. So this shows,

  150. right, God's everlasting covenant to say, I am

  151. with you. Praise the Lord. So this is showing

  152. God's everlasting covenant to say that I am with

  153. you. He's saying that I will not leave you nor

  154. forsake you. Praise the Lord. He's saying, I

  155. will not leave you nor forsake you. I am with

  156. you. And he said, God walking with them. Praise

  157. the Lord. So God is not apart from them. Praise

  158. the Lord. God walking with them. Let's go back

  159. to that Mark and see this walking with them.

  160. Mark chapter 16, verse 20. Verse 20, he says

    Mark 16:20

  161. what? And they went out and preached everywhere.

  162. The Lord walking with them through accompanying

  163. signs. Praise the Lord. The Lord walking. with

  164. them. So the Lord is working with them. Praise

  165. the Lord. So if we say that, for example, as

  166. a church, we work together. Let's say different

  167. departments work together. And we give example

  168. that Femi is in the ushering department and God's

  169. voice is in the media. Praise the Lord. So although

  170. they work in the same organization or they work

  171. in the same church, but They are not doing the

  172. same thing. Praise the Lord. They are not doing

  173. the same thing. Although they walk in the same

  174. place, right? They are not doing the same thing.

  175. But this, this word, the Lord walking with them

  176. is not the same. It's not the same as somebody

  177. being in the same organization, but performing

  178. different roles. Praise the Lord. It's not the

  179. same as that, right? I am, or the Lord walking

  180. with them. He's saying that. He is working together

  181. with them. Praise the Lord. He is working together

  182. with them. We see the same word in Romans chapter

    Romans 8 chapter mention

  183. 8. Romans chapter 8, verse 28. He said, For we

    Romans 8:28

  184. know that all things work together for good to

  185. those who love the Lord and to those who are

  186. called according to his purpose. This thing,

  187. all things work together for good, right? All

  188. things work together for good. It's the same

  189. thing as saying, working with them, right? It's

  190. a Greek word, S -Y -N -E -R -G -E -O, sunageho,

  191. right? Sunageho. That's what it means, working

  192. with them. We also see the same thing in 1 Corinthians

    1 Corinthians 16:16

  193. 16, verse 16, for laboring together. 1 Corinthians

    1 Corinthians 16:16

  194. 16, verse 16, that you also submit to such and

  195. to everyone who works and labors with you. The

  196. same thing as that place, laboring with us. 2

    2 Corinthians 6:1

  197. Corinthians 6, verse 1. 2 Corinthians 6, verse

    2 Corinthians 6:1

  198. 1. We then, as workers together with him, also

  199. plead with you. Plead with you not to receive

  200. the grace of God in vain. We then as walkers

  201. wait. Right? It's that word. Tsunageho. So, and

  202. we also see the same thing in James chapter 2.

    James 2 chapter mention

  203. James chapter 2. James chapter 2. James chapter

James 2 chapter mention James 2 chapter mention James 2:21–22

  204. 2 verse 21 to 22. Was not Abraham our father

  205. justified by the works when he offered up Isaac

  206. his son on the altar? Do you see that faith was

  207. working together with his work? And by works,

  208. faith was made perfect. Praise the Lord. So you

  209. see what? See that faith was working, what? With

  210. his work. Or working together with his work.

  211. It's that same word we see there. So it means

  212. that we are seeing his faith by his work. That

  213. is from this place. Right? We also see that in

  214. Romans chapter 16, verse 3, an adjective of this

    Romans 16:3

  215. word, sonageho. Romans chapter 16, verse 3. He

    Romans 16:3

  216. said, greet Priscilla and Aquila, my fellow workers

  217. in Christ. My fellow workers, right? It's that

  218. same word. And then we also see in verse 21 of

  219. that same Romans chapter 16. He said, Timothy,

    Romans 16 chapter mention

  220. my fellow worker. Praise the Lord. Timothy, my

  221. fellow workers. So it means that they are working

  222. together. Praise the Lord. It means that they

  223. are working together. When he says working with

  224. them, right? We saw in Mark chapter 16, verse

    Mark 16:20

  225. 20, right? He's talking about that they are working

  226. together to achieve the same goal. Praise the

  227. Lord. They are working together to achieve the

  228. same goal. God is saying that what God is working

  229. with them with a company sign. He said that God

  230. was working with the disciples, right? They were

  231. working together to achieve the same goal. So

  232. their goals and their priorities were alike.

  233. Praise the Lord. So when he says working with

  234. them, he's saying that they are achieving the

  235. same thing. Their goals and their priorities

  236. were the same. So, but it's actually quite stronger

  237. than that. It's not just that they were working

  238. together to achieve the same goal. Praise the

  239. Lord. It means one walking through the other,

  240. praise the Lord, and vice versa, right? It's

  241. not just that they are walking together, you

  242. know, we agree on the same thing. Let's say Femi,

  243. who is in the ushering department with Caroline,

  244. they're in the same place. They are walking together

  245. to achieve the same goal in the church ordination,

  246. getting people to see properly and all of that.

  247. But he's saying he's just greater than that,

  248. right? That word walking. That word walking with

  249. them is saying that one is walking through the

  250. other and vice versa. Praise the Lord. It means

  251. that there is no separation. Hallelujah. It means

  252. there is no separation. Fellow workers, people

  253. who are doing the same thing, who are walking

  254. the same way. Praise the Lord. So when he says,

  255. or when you say that you have the spirit of God

  256. in the inside of you, right? It means that you're

  257. saying that you and God are working the same

  258. way. Praise the Lord. You're saying that you

  259. and God are working the same way, right? That

  260. your goals are the same. Praise the Lord. You're

  261. fellow workers. Hallelujah. Philemon chapter

    Philemon 1:1

  262. 1 verse 1. We see that same word again. Fellow

  263. laborers. Philemon chapter 1 verse 1. Fellow

    Philemon 1:1

  264. laborers. So it means that God is working, right?

  265. Philemon chapter 1, it said, Paul, a prisoner

    Philemon 1 chapter mention

  266. of Christ, and Timothy, a brother, to Philemon,

  267. a beloved friend and fellow laborer. Praise the

  268. Lord. Fellow laborers. So it means that God was,

  269. when he says God was working with them in Matthew

    Matthew 16 chapter mention

  270. chapter 16, right? He's saying that God was walking

  271. through the world that he preached. Praise the

  272. Lord. is that God was walking through the preaching

  273. that they were doing. Praise the Lord. And the

  274. word of God is walking through God. Like I said,

  275. it's vice versa. Praise the Lord. The word is

  276. walking through God. So you cannot separate the

  277. message from God himself. Hallelujah. It means

  278. that you cannot separate the message from God

  279. himself. What they were doing cannot be separated

  280. from God. Praise the Lord. So when you go out

  281. to preach, or when you go to tell somebody about

  282. Christ, what you're doing cannot be separated

  283. from God. It's all a different walk. Praise the

  284. Lord. It is God that is walking together or through

  285. you. So the world cannot be separated, or God

  286. cannot be separated from the message that we

  287. preach. Praise the Lord. So when he says something

  288. like another gospel, it means that they are preaching

  289. something that God is not in the middle of it,

  290. or God is not there. Praise the Lord. They're

  291. teaching that which is not from God, which does

  292. not originate from God. Praise the Lord. So we

  293. cannot separate the message from God. So when

  294. you preach the word, God's word is powerful,

  295. right? God's word has God in it. So when you're

  296. preaching, what you're doing is you're not just

  297. saying things. You're not just wasting your time.

  298. You're not just... Taking a time out of the afternoon

  299. and saying something. Praise the Lord. It is

  300. that the things that you're preaching, God is

  301. in the inside of it. God is in his word. God

  302. walking with them. God's word has God in it.

  303. The message we preach has God in it. He said

  304. what? A fellow laborer. He's a fellow laborer

  305. with the message. Praise the Lord. The Lord is

  306. walking with. with them with the lord is working

  307. with so it means that when jesus uh told them

  308. to go and preach or when jesus told them to go

  309. and preach he gave them himself as well praise

  310. the lord when jesus said go and preach go and

  311. preach the gospel when he says what he should

  312. preach where starting from jerusalem and to the

  313. ultimate part of the earth he's saying that i'm

  314. giving you myself with it praise the lord So

  315. he's not telling them, oh, go and do this work.

  316. And it's your responsibility. You are in charge

  317. of it. I have no, I have no, I just come to judge

  318. you on the result that you get. If somebody gives

  319. you a workplace and it requires a result, right?

  320. You go and figure out how that work is being

  321. done, if it's difficult, if it's not. He's saying,

  322. when he said he should go and preach, he also

  323. gave himself to them. So that's what he's walking

  324. through them. Praise the Lord. Do we have an

  325. understanding of what I'm saying? Do we understand

  326. what I'm saying? So when we say God with you

  327. or God with us, you see what it is. That the

  328. Lord is in the inside of you and is working as

  329. you preach the word. Praise the Lord. As you

  330. teach the gospel, the Lord is working. He gives

  331. you himself. Praise the Lord. So we're not just

  332. messengers of the message, right? We're not like

  333. John the Baptist, okay? A voice of the one crying

  334. out in the wilderness, right? We're not just

  335. the messenger of the message, right? We are what?

  336. The messengers of a person. Remember where we

  337. started from? I am with you and we say it is

  338. a proper name. Praise the Lord. Yahweh, right?

  339. We are messengers of a person in a message. Hallelujah.

  340. We are messengers of a person in a message. Luke

    Luke 14 chapter mention

  341. chapter 14, Luke chapter 24, verse 49. Luke chapter

    Luke 24:49 Luke 24:49

  342. 24, verse 49. 1 verse 4. Remember, Luke was the

  343. writer of the book of Acts. As they had been

  344. assembled together, he commanded them not to

  345. depart from Jerusalem and to wait for the promise

  346. of the Father, which he said, you have heard

  347. from me. Praise the Lord. So he had made the

  348. promise. And he's the same writers of the same

  349. scriptures. So he's the word promise. So that

  350. word promise is a Greek word. I'm going to spell

  351. it, and then E -P -A -N -G -E -L -I -A. It's

  352. a word, epangelia. Praise the Lord. It's a word,

  353. epangelia, right? Promise, right? That word for

  354. promise. It means a self -commitment to do something

  355. by yourself. Praise the Lord. So when he says,

  356. what? The promise of the Father. It's something

  357. that he has committed that he's going to do.

  358. Right? Promise, epangelia. It means a self -commitment

  359. to do it by yourself. Praise the Lord. And we

  360. saw it in Acts chapter 1, verse 4. The promise

    Acts 1:4

  361. of the Father. So, look at verse 4 now, verse

  362. 5 of this Acts chapter 1. For John truly baptized

    Acts 1 chapter mention

  363. with water, but you shall be baptized with a

  364. holy spirit. not many days from now. Verse 8.

  365. Verse 8. But you shall receive power when the

  366. Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you shall

  367. be witnesses to me in Jerusalem and in Judea

  368. and in Samaria and to the ends of the earth.

  369. Acts chapter 2, verse 38. The promise of the

    Acts 2:38

  370. Father, the Holy Spirit. Acts chapter 2, verse

    Acts 2:38

  371. 38. Then Peter said to them, Repent, and let

  372. every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus

  373. Christ for the remission of sins, that you shall

  374. receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. Verse 39.

  375. For the promise is to you and to your children,

  376. and to all who are far off, as many as the Lord

  377. our God will call. Praise the Lord. The promise

  378. is what? Not just for you, but to your children.

  379. and to all who are far off. Remember, we were

  380. looking at this a few weeks ago about the intention

  381. of God concerning salvation. Praise the Lord.

  382. So Jesus is teaching them, right? And he keeps

  383. mentioning to them what's the promise of the

  384. Father, the promise of the Father. Luke chapter

    Luke 4 chapter mention

  385. 4, sorry, Luke chapter 24, verse 27. He tells

    Luke 24:27

  386. us that what's... that he taught them from what?

  387. Genesis to what? He taught them from Moses and

  388. in all the prophets. He expounded to them in

  389. all the scriptures the things consigning himself.

  390. Praise the Lord. Verse 44 and 45. And he said

  391. to them, These are the words which I spoke to

  392. you while I was still with you, that all things

  393. will be fulfilled which are written in the law

  394. of Moses and in the prophets and in the Psalms

  395. consigning me. Verse 45. And he opened the understanding

  396. that they may comprehend the scriptures. We've

  397. also dealt with that. So reading, right? So he

  398. read from Genesis to Malachi to give them understanding.

  399. So even you, as you read the scriptures, right?

  400. You read now, you read the scriptures from Genesis,

  401. right? To Malachi and to the four Gospels, you

  402. regard them as a book, right? You consider them

  403. as a book. I remember in the sound meeting where

  404. we were dealing with... at the judgment seats

  405. of Christ and we read in Matthew, right? And

  406. I was asking them, I said, how do you explain

  407. to somebody when in the scriptures in Matthew,

  408. he talks about telling those, separating the

  409. sheep from the goats and he's saying to them,

  410. to those who have done good things to this side

  411. and to those who have done bad things to the

  412. other side. How do you explain to somebody who

  413. is just a believer, who just became a believer

  414. or somebody who does not, is curious to know

  415. what is going on here? Or ask you the question,

  416. does it mean that in my good deeds, I'm righteous

  417. with God? How do you explain that? Seeing that

  418. it is declared there in the scripture, that is

  419. what he's suggesting. Praise the Lord. How do

  420. you explain that? And we said that you explain

  421. that by what? Explaining the entirety of the

  422. scriptures. Praise the Lord. You explain that

  423. by explaining the entirety of the scriptures.

  424. So you see that and you become confused, like

  425. what is going on here? So you read Genesis. and

  426. to the four Gospels as one book. And then Matthew

  427. to Acts, right? As the same as one book, and

  428. then Romans to Revelation as a singular book.

  429. So, in essence, they explain each other. Praise

  430. the Lord. As somebody tells you that from Matthew,

  431. you want to go to the epistle to explain to him

  432. what was that about. Praise the Lord. So, when

  433. you see a phrase in the epistle, or when he's

  434. saying something, remember, we just read something

  435. now. And it means that these things was written.

  436. You will find this story or the narrative or

  437. the concept of this in the Old Testament when

  438. you see something in the epistle. So when Jesus

  439. said, I am with you, right? We said it's a proper

  440. name. Egomai is a single name, right? He said

  441. always to the end, right? But it's not just the

  442. first place that this thing was written. Praise

  443. the Lord. It's not just the first time. Right?

  444. Matthew writes about it. Matthew chapter 1. Matthew

Matthew 1 chapter mention Matthew 1 chapter mention

  445. chapter 1. The angels, the Joseph encounter with

  446. the angel. Matthew chapter 1, verse 21. And he

    Matthew 1:21

  447. shall bring forth a son, and he shall call his

  448. name Jesus, for he will save his people from

  449. their sins. Just pay attention to this. Verse

  450. 22. So all this was done that it might be fulfilled,

  451. which was written by the Lord through the prophets,

  452. saying, verse 23, Behold, the virgin shall be

  453. with a child and shall bear a son, and they shall

  454. call his name Emmanuel, which is translated God

  455. with us. Praise the Lord. So we read, we see

  456. that it seems like there is a contrast, right?

  457. In verse 21, let's go back to 21. He said, she

  458. shall bring forth a son and his name shall be

  459. called, and you shall call his name what? Jesus.

  460. What is Jesus going to do? He said he will save

  461. his people from their sins. Just pay attention

  462. to this because we're going to understand it

  463. very soon. Verse 23 now. He said, Behold, the

  464. virgin shall be with a child and bear a son.

  465. Praise the Lord. And he shall call his name Emmanuel.

  466. What is Emmanuel? He says what? God with us.

  467. The first one said his name shall be who? Jesus.

  468. And what is Jesus going to do? He's going to

  469. save people from their sins. But Emmanuel is

  470. what? He's talking about the same son. And he's

  471. going to be what? Emmanuel, for you to know what?

  472. He's translated God with us. Praise the Lord.

  473. So he's not just saving, he's staying. Praise

  474. the Lord. Hallelujah. He shall save his people

  475. from their sin. We write down verse 21. And then

  476. verse 23 says what? He shall call his name Emmanuel,

  477. which is God with us. God with us. Jesus didn't

  478. just say God with us in Matthew 28, but he says

  479. what? I am with you. Praise the Lord. So when

  480. we say I am with you, right? He's telling them

  481. something that has been prophesied. I've already

  482. said it, but he's saying God with us. But then

  483. he's saying I am with you always. Praise the

  484. Lord. Do you understand that? So he said, I am

  485. with you. But then when you see the angels reporting,

  486. verse 22, when we see what the angel was reporting,

  487. he says what? And so this was done that it may

  488. be fulfilled which was written, which was spoken

  489. by the Lord through the prophet, saying. So when

  490. we see the angel, the angel is the third party

  491. here, saying this. He says what? God with us.

  492. Praise the Lord. So the angel will say what?

  493. God with us. Emmanuel. Praise the Lord. So, but

  494. where is the angel referencing this from when

  495. he says that it was spoken of the Lord through

  496. the prophet? Isaiah chapter 7, verse 14. Isaiah

    Isaiah 7:14 Isaiah 7:14

  497. chapter 7, verse 14. Therefore, the Lord himself

  498. will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin shall

  499. conceive and bear a son and shall call his name

  500. Emmanuel, God with us. So, Emmanuel. is two words

  501. to put together. Praise the Lord. The manual

  502. is two words put together. The first one is I

  503. -W -M -A -N -U. Right? I -W -M -A -N -U. Right?

  504. Emmanuel. Or Emmanuel. Right? And then we have

  505. E -L. Right? That's the second word that was

  506. put together. to bring Emmanuel. So, Emmanuel

  507. is with us. That's the word, with us. Right?

  508. E -L or L is God. So that is God with us. So

  509. it's to say God with us. Then he referenced that

  510. Emmanuel, he said God with us, Emmanuel, and

  511. referenced a child. Right? He said what? Shall

  512. conceive and bear a son. Right? And you shall

  513. call him Emmanuel. So where did we see this?

  514. Let's just look at this word with us. Right?

  515. Or God with us. And let's see where it is first

  516. also mentioned or where we can start seeing it.

  517. Right? We see examples of this with Eve and Adam.

  518. Genesis chapter 3 verse 16. Sorry, Genesis chapter

    Genesis 3:16 Genesis 3:6

  519. 3 verse 6. Genesis 3, verse 6. So when the woman

    Genesis 3:6

  520. saw that the tree was good for food, that it

  521. was present in the eyes, a tree desirable to

  522. make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate.

  523. She also gave her husband with her, and he ate.

  524. Right? It's that word. It says what? With her

  525. husband. Right? Right? Her husband with her.

  526. Praise the Lord. It's also that same thing we

  527. see there as wheat. So we see that wheat has,

  528. so it means together with her, right? When he

  529. says her husband with her, it means that her

  530. husband was together with her, right? They were

  531. in the same place. We also see in Genesis 2,

    Genesis 2:24

  532. verse 24, rendering it in another way as one

  533. flesh, right? Therefore a man shall leave his

  534. father. and his mother and be joined to his wife,

  535. and they shall become one flesh. Ehad is a Greek

  536. word, ehad. E -H -A -D, right? It's the same

  537. word that is used for that first place we read

  538. as with her or with her husband. It's used for

  539. one here. Praise the Lord. So he's saying with

  540. as alike, right? Or alike or by or in, right?

  541. Let's not miss what we're saying, okay? So remember

  542. where we came from. We said what? Emmanuel, God

  543. with us. And we're trying to look at the word

  544. with us, right? And we came here to say that

  545. when he says with, he's saying as like or alike

  546. or by or in. Remember where we started and we

  547. said that he's walking through them. Praise the

  548. Lord, right? I am with you always. He's walking.

  549. through them. So he's saying that they are alike

  550. or by or in. So it's the same thing that the

  551. apostles explored and we have the words in the

  552. epistles as in Christ or Christ in us. Praise

  553. the Lord. So it means that they have a mutual

  554. identity. Praise the Lord. With us. God with

  555. us. That you have a mutual identity or a reflection.

  556. Praise the Lord. or a reflection or a likeness.

  557. Praise the Lord. Or a likeness. A light. So we

  558. have God with us. God like us. Right? So we have...

  559. So what he's saying is that when he says God

  560. with us, he's saying a man like God. Praise the

  561. Lord. Emmanuel. A man like God. He's not saying

  562. a man like God. Right? A man like God. A reflection

  563. of God. A man -like God. Which means that in

  564. the incarnation, we are going to have a man -like

  565. God. Praise the Lord. A man -like God. Emmanuel.

  566. God reflecting as a man. Praise the Lord. God

  567. reflecting as a man. So he's not going to be

  568. walking through men, like in terms of... occasionally,

  569. or the thing that Emmanuel is coming to do is

  570. not something that is bestowed on particular

  571. individuals. Praise the Lord. He's going to reflect

  572. himself as a man. Praise the Lord. So when the

  573. angel said, thou shalt call his name Jesus, right?

  574. Two things are happening. So when he says Jesus,

  575. remember when we said Jesus, it's the same word

  576. as family has at that name, Joshua. Praise the

  577. Lord. Or Yeshua. So it's the same word when he

  578. says Jesus. It's the same word as Yeshua or Joshua.

  579. Praise the Lord. So remember, there's one teaching

  580. I was doing and I said that in theology, that

  581. location is important and name is important.

  582. Praise the Lord. It's important to understand

  583. what God's intention is. When you're studying

  584. the scriptures. Why did he use Joshua? Why did

  585. he use Joshua? Why did he say you shall call

  586. his name Yeshua? He says what? We read there,

  587. what did he say? He will save his people from

  588. their sins. He will save his people from their

  589. sins. So we see that Emmanuel was prophesied

  590. in the Old Testament, right? Emmanuel was prophesied

  591. in the Old Testament, but not Yeshua. Right?

  592. Or Jesus. Or that name, Jesus. So, we know where

  593. we started seeing Joshua from. Right? The assistant

  594. of Moses. Right? From the scriptures. He was

  595. somebody who was assisting Moses and who took

  596. the children of Israel to the promised land.

  597. Praise the Lord. He was the one who took them

  598. to the promised land. So, it means that Jesus,

  599. right? It means that we regard Jesus or we would

  600. look at Jesus as an event. And that event is

  601. what? He will save his people from their sins.

  602. Praise the Lord. Why? Because Jesus is a common

  603. name, as we well know. Jesus is a common name.

  604. Presently, we have some Arsenal players who are

  605. Jesus. Praise the Lord. a lot of Brazilians who

  606. bear Jesus. Praise the Lord. So now and before,

  607. it was a common name. Praise the Lord. It was

  608. a common name. It wasn't a peculiar name to just

  609. our Lord and Savior. Praise the Lord. It was

  610. not just the person bearing this name. So it

  611. was a common name. So when you say Joshua, right,

  612. it's also two words. Ave Yeshua. When you say

  613. Joshua, it's two words. Ave Yeshua. A -V -A -H.

  614. Then Yeshua. So, Ave is used for Yahweh. Then

  615. Yeshua. So, we also see that we use that word

  616. because they were in Exodus. Right? We use that

  617. word because they were in Exodus. Why did they

  618. use that word? The name shall be Jesus. Right?

  619. We use that word because, well, that word is

  620. used because it's also people of Exodus understand

  621. it. Praise the Lord. People in Exodus understand

  622. it. So, by the very name of Jesus, we need to

  623. read that word. That's in Exodus. Exodus chapter

    Exodus 4 chapter mention

  624. 4, chapter 2, verse 7. Exodus chapter 2, verse

    Exodus 2:7

  625. 7. 2, verse 17. 2, 17. It said, Then the shepherd

  626. came and drove them away. But Moses stood up

  627. and helped them and watered their flock. He helped

  628. them. Exodus chapter 14, verse 30. Exodus chapter

    Exodus 14:30 Exodus 14:30

  629. 14, verse 30. The Lord saved Israel that day

  630. out of the hands of the Egyptians. And Israel

  631. saw the Egyptians died in the seashore. Saved.

  632. Yeshua is an Exodus name. Numbers chapter 10,

    Numbers 10:9

  633. verse 9. Numbers chapter 10, verse 9. He said,

    Numbers 10:9

  634. When you go to war in your hand against the enemy

  635. who oppress you, then you shall sound an alarm

  636. with a trumpet, and you shall be remembered before

  637. the Lord your God, and you shall be saved from

  638. your enemies. We see that word again, what? You

  639. shall be saved from your enemies. Deuteronomy

    Deuteronomy 20:4

  640. chapter 20, verse 4. For the Lord your God is

  641. he who goes with you. to fight for you against

  642. your enemies, to save you, to fight for you against

  643. your enemies, to save you, your enemies. Deuteronomy

    Deuteronomy 33:29

  644. 33, verse 29. Deuteronomy 33, verse 29. Happy

    Deuteronomy 33:29

  645. are you, O Israel, who is like you, O people,

  646. saved by God, the shield of your health and the

  647. sword of your majesty. Your enemies shall submit

  648. to you, and you shall tread down their high places.

  649. Praise the Lord. Saved by the Lord. These are

  650. people saved by the Lord. So it is an Exodus

  651. name, Joshua or Yeshua. Praise the Lord. So it

  652. means that Jesus, therefore, right? When he says

  653. you shall call his name, can we go back to that

  654. place in the scripture where you shall call his

  655. name Jesus? The angel was talking to Mary, Matthew

  656. chapter one, verse 21. So when he said you shall,

  657. Bring forth a son, and he shall call his name

  658. Jesus, for he will save his people from their

  659. sins. So it means that Jesus was given a proper

  660. name. Praise the Lord. It means that what? Jesus

  661. was given a proper name. Why? Because that word

  662. Jesus, it means what? To save, right? To deliver.

  663. Praise the Lord. To deliver. Because what does

  664. Joshua did for them? He saved them or he took

  665. them across the Jordan to the promised land.

  666. So he was given a proper name. What does that

  667. represent? So Joshua represented someone, a man

  668. who took them to where? To the land. He took

  669. them to the land. Praise the Lord. I wish we

  670. had time to describe this, but I'm just going

  671. to say it and then we'll come back to it again.

  672. So the land, I think we have done a brief study

  673. on this. describes, right, as a people. Isaiah

  674. describes it as God himself, right? Jerusalem,

  675. Zion, right? He calls it a person, right? Like

  676. I said, we're going to come back to this. But

  677. let's look at some of the promises concerning

  678. the promised land, right? Genesis chapter 12,

    Genesis 12:2–3

  679. verse 2 to 3. Genesis chapter 12, verse 2 to

    Genesis 12:2–3

  680. 3. I will make you a great nation. I will bless

  681. you and make your name great. You shall be a

  682. blessing. I will bless those who bless you. I

  683. will curse them who curse you. In you all the

  684. families of the earth shall be blessed. Genesis

    Genesis 15:5–8

  685. chapter 15, verse 5 to 8. Then he brought him

  686. outside and said, Look now towards the heaven

  687. and count the stars if you are able to number

  688. them. And he said to him, So shall your descendants

  689. be. And he believed in the Lord. and he accounted

  690. it to him for righteousness. And he said to him,

  691. I am the Lord who brought you out of the land

  692. of all of the Chaldeans to give you this land

  693. to inherit. And he said, O God, how shall I know

  694. I would inherit it? Genesis chapter 17, verse

    Genesis 17:4–6

  695. 4 to 6. Genesis 17, verse 4 to 6. As for me,

    Genesis 17:4–6

  696. behold, my covenant is with you. and you shall

  697. be a father of many nations. No longer shall

  698. your name be called Abraham, but your name shall

  699. be called Abraham, for I have made you father

  700. of many nations. I will make you exceedingly

  701. fruitful, and I will make nations of you, and

  702. the king shall come from you. Genesis chapter

    Genesis 22:16–18

  703. 22, verse 16 to 18. And said, By myself I have

  704. sworn, says the Lord. Because you have done this

  705. thing and you have not withdrawn your son, your

  706. only son, blessing I will bless you, and multiplying

  707. I will multiply your descendants as the stars

  708. of the heavens and as the sand which is on the

  709. seashore, and your descendants shall possess

  710. the gates of the enemies. And in your seed all

  711. the nations of the earth shall be blessed, because

  712. you have obeyed my voice. Then to Jacob now.

  713. Genesis chapter 28, verse 13 to 15. He was dreaming

    Genesis 28:13–15

  714. or seeing a vision. And behold, the Lord stood

  715. above it and said, I am the Lord of Abraham your

  716. father, the God of Isaac, the land of which you

  717. lie I will give you and your descendants. And

  718. all your descendants shall be as the dust of

  719. the earth. You shall spread abroad to the west.

  720. to the east, to the north, to the south. And

  721. in you and in your seed, all the families of

  722. the earth shall be blessed. Behold, I am with

  723. you. You see that again. I'm with you and I will

  724. keep you wherever you go. And I will bring you

  725. back to this land for I will not leave you until

  726. I have done what I have spoken to you. Praise

  727. the Lord. So we see here that there's a lot of

  728. land. There's a lot of things that we said. So

  729. again, remember that there are several studies

  730. and we said that God uses or permits something

  731. to teach them what his divine purpose is. Or

  732. he uses maybe something that they are used to,

  733. to teach them what he wants to do. Praise the

  734. Lord. And one of those is land because they were

  735. farmers. They were capturers. Praise the Lord.

  736. They were people who were into agriculture. Praise

  737. the Lord. So he uses the land, right? He uses

  738. the land because it is... the closest he can

  739. use to describe what he is trying to get them

  740. to believe, right? Because they were farmers,

  741. they dealt with land and they produced and they

  742. were into agriculture. So we said Joshua represented

  743. the man who took them to the land. So it was

  744. Moses who saved them, right? It was Moses who

  745. saved them. It was Moses who sent them through

  746. the waters, right? Joshua was the one who took

  747. them to the land. So we see that even John the

  748. Baptist, when he came to baptize, he went to

  749. the Jordan. And I think Pastor Takunda was teaching

  750. on this as well. He went to the Jordan, praise

  751. the Lord, deliberately. He didn't just choose

  752. any water to go to. Why? Because what? They crossed

  753. through the Jordan. Praise the Lord. They crossed

  754. through the Jordan. Mark chapter 1, verse 4 to

    Mark 1:4–5

  755. 5. Mark chapter 1, verse 4 to 5. John came baptizing

    Mark 1:4–5

  756. in the wilderness and preaching a baptism of

  757. repentance for the remission of sins. Then all

  758. the land of Judea and those from Jerusalem went

  759. out to him and were baptized by him in the Jordan

  760. River, confessing their sins. So he took them

  761. to Jordan to baptize them. Jordan, we said, was

  762. how they entered into the land. This is the land.

  763. Praise the Lord. So they are in the land. They

  764. are in the land. So why is he going to Jordan

  765. again? Praise the Lord. So they thought, okay,

  766. when they get to the land, they're going to be

  767. free from their enemies, right? There's nothing

  768. that will happen, but their enemies were also

  769. there. Praise the Lord. So if God was promising

  770. them a land that is flowing with milk and honey,

  771. but then they go there and they found that there

  772. were bees. that were wild beasts. They were coming

  773. after their life. Praise the Lord. So they were

  774. not free of troubles, but they were not free

  775. of enemies. Praise the Lord. They were not free

  776. of enemies. It means that the land was not the

  777. promise. There was something else that was bigger

  778. than that. Praise the Lord. They were looking

  779. forward to something. Emmanuel. Praise the Lord.

  780. God with us. A Messiah. Right? God with us. They

  781. are waiting a Messiah. So John is saying that

  782. the Messiah is here by going to the Jordan. Praise

  783. the Lord. Because now you are able to cross into

  784. the proper land in which God intended for. Praise

  785. the Lord. They were going to cross into the proper

  786. land in which was promised. Praise the Lord.

  787. So John was pointing them not to a land because

  788. they were already in the land. He pointed them

  789. to a person. If you read down, you will see that

  790. he's pointing them to a person. Praise the Lord,

  791. because they were already in the land. So John

  792. is saying that the kingdom is here. We are close

  793. to it. We are at the border of it. The Messiah

  794. is close to coming. So when he said you shall

  795. call his name Joshua, right? His father understood

  796. what he was saying. That is Joseph, right? He

  797. will save his people, right? Not from their enemies.

  798. Praise the Lord. This Joshua. He's not saving

  799. his people, what? From their enemies, what? But

  800. he's saving them from their sins, right? Their

  801. greatest enemy. Praise the Lord. So when they

  802. were taken out of Egypt, right? He took them

  803. out, right? To the promised land. So John the

  804. Baptist, right? He's a messenger that is going

  805. before his face to prepare the way for the Messiah.

  806. Because of time, I will not be able to talk about

  807. that. The use of the land was a parable, right?

  808. The land is God himself. Praise the Lord. The

  809. land is God himself. He is their possession.

  810. He is that which they have been waiting for.

  811. And God is our possession now. God with us. So

  812. he was given a name of a man that is Jesus. We

  813. said it was a common name so that they would

  814. know what he came to do. Praise the Lord. He

  815. was given that name, Jesus, so that the people

  816. would know that this one had a purpose. He came

  817. to do something. He was given the name of a man

  818. so that they would know what he's doing. So the

  819. name describes his function, tells about the

  820. function of the Christ or Jesus. So like I said,

  821. Jesus was a common name. There were many people

  822. who were called Jesus, right, in that land or

  823. in this thing. So what is important? Why is he

  824. important? Praise the Lord. There were so many

  825. people who were called by that name. Why is it

  826. important? It is important because what? It is

  827. Emmanuel, God with us. Praise the Lord. It is

  828. important because what? God with us. Yes, he

  829. was given a name, right? Joshua or Yeshua, right?

  830. To describe what he came to do. But many people

  831. will say, oh, okay, my son is also called Jesus.

  832. So who are you? It is important because he is

  833. what? Emmanuel, God with us. A man like God.

  834. Praise the Lord. There is a man, Yeshua, right?

  835. For God will deliver, right? Yeshua means that

  836. what? God will deliver. Joshua means God will

  837. deliver, right? Then you have Emmanuel. So God

  838. is delivering and God is with us. Praise the

  839. Lord. Do we get that? God is delivering and God

  840. is with us. So the man like God is reflecting

  841. man and God at the same time. Praise the Lord.

  842. So he's Yeshua and he's also Emmanuel. Praise

  843. the Lord. He's reflecting or God is reflecting

  844. a man and vice versa. Praise the Lord. So Jesus...

  845. Like I said, it was a common name that God bought

  846. to show his mission on the earth. Praise the

  847. Lord. To show his mission on the earth, to save

  848. his people from their sins. Amen. Praise the

  849. Lord. So Wednesday, we're going to continue to

  850. discuss more. But one thing that, or two things

  851. we can learn from these things, right? Is one,

  852. as believers, we need to recognize the presence

  853. of God in our lives daily. Praise the Lord. We

  854. need to recognize what? The presence of God in

  855. our lives daily. I am with you. You live with

  856. that confidence that God is with you. God is

  857. present with you. Whether you're at home, whether

  858. you're in school, whether you're in workplace,

  859. whether you're facing difficulties, God is with

  860. you. If you've lived long enough, you'll realize

  861. that trouble does not finish. Hallelujah. Do

  862. you know that? That even the person that you

  863. are thinking that you want to become has a challenge.

  864. Praise the Lord. Has something that is in his

  865. face that he needs to deal with. Praise the Lord.

  866. But he's saying what? God is with you. So when

  867. God is with me, what do I do? I'm confident.

  868. Oh, sorry. When I have this assurance or when

  869. I have this knowing in the inside of me, I can

  870. face anything. Praise the Lord. It means I can

  871. pray about anything. It means I can speak to

  872. God about any situation. It means I can communicate

  873. with Him. He says what? He is in us. Praise the

  874. Lord. He is in the things that we preach. Praise

  875. the Lord. So, we sang the song, You Are Not Alone.

  876. Praise the Lord. It means that you are not alone.

  877. Praise the Lord. So, no matter the situation

  878. or no matter the difficulties you face, You will

  879. not say you are alone. Praise the Lord. You are

  880. encouraged. Praise the Lord. All of a sudden,

  881. there is a joy that comes from the inside of

  882. your heart. Knowing that you are not alone. Knowing

  883. that God has not left you. Knowing that you are

  884. not forsaken. Praise the Lord. No matter the

  885. challenges that come upon your life, you know

  886. that you are not alone. You don't go through

  887. it alone. Praise the Lord. So what the devil

  888. wants to do is to... Make you not to see that

  889. reality. Make you not to recognize that reality

  890. at every circumstance, at every junction of your

  891. life. So when you face your challenges, what

  892. do you do? As we have been taught, you begin

  893. to find out what you're supposed to do at this

  894. time and at this season, to hear what he will

  895. say to you now. Praise the Lord. God with us.

  896. Hallelujah. Let us just pray and just thank God

  897. for his presence with us. We appreciate you being

  898. here today. We hope you carry this word with

  899. you throughout your week. Don't forget to check
